- 0:00Speaking of nothing happening, we're going to review Call it
- 0:03Love and. Jess.
- 0:25I'm Jessica and this is Teba K Rambles.
- 0:27We're a couple of friends review Korean dramas and we are back
- 0:31for another K drama review. And today I am joined by my good
- 0:35friend Naz from the Swoon Diaries podcast.
- 0:37How are you, Naz? I'm good.
- 0:40How are you, Jess? I am excellent.
- 0:43I told you that I'm going to go see Michael later today.
- 0:46I'm going to go see Devil Wears Prada 2 today.
- 0:48And then I washed my car and I was pumping Michael.
- 0:51And actually when we got on, we were we went on a an extensive
- 0:55tangent about Michael and the movie and you know, where where
- 1:00were you when he died? Like this whole thing.
- 1:03So if you are interested, you can listen to that BTS on the
- 1:08Patreon feed. Nas, the last time you were here
- 1:11was for that winter The Wind Blows and before that you were
- 1:15on the double train to usan an Autumn in My Heart episodes.
- 1:20And it's been a minute actually since you've been here.
- 1:22So let's do a quick K catch up. What have you been watching
- 1:26lately? What are you loving lately?
- 1:28Yes, so I'm currently watching Perfect Crown which I'm loving.
- 1:32You love it, OK. Yes, I'm a few episodes behind,
- 1:35but I really, really like it so far.
- 1:38So that's all I've been watching so far.
- 1:41I haven't been watching too much.
- 1:42I've been so busy. But yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:44Perfect Crown is like my main show.
- 1:46I've been, I've been watching. Of course I watched.
- 1:48I finished Bloodhounds a few weeks ago and that was great.
- 1:50Okay, blood Honey loves that too.
- 1:52Yes, okay, love that. So yeah, that's why I've been up
- 1:56to perfect. Crown man, I heard some mixed
- 1:59things about that show and a lot of people and not just like
- 2:03people that I DM regularly and that are friends.
- 2:07I'm looking at people that I follow and they're like, this is
- 2:09so boring and I'm like, Oh no, because I love to be proven
- 2:14wrong. I want to be proven wrong.
- 2:16I told I think it was on Liliana's tea and Soju when we
- 2:20did our pursuit of jade review. I was like, I got the ick on one
- 2:25of the promo videos that came out for perfect crown and ever
- 2:29since then I'm like, I don't know about the show.
- 2:31You know, I this is personal, right?
- 2:33Like only people that ask get to get to background info.
- 2:38I, I'm like, I want to be proven wrong.
- 2:40I want it to be good. Hopefully it gets even better
- 2:43than it already hopefully is. And that's all I'll say about
- 2:47that. That's all I'll say.
- 2:49About that I hope so cuz I'm I'm literally on episode 3 so I'm a
- 2:51few episodes behind, but so far I'm really enjoying it.
- 2:55So we'll see and I think I don't know they just look so good
- 2:57together and it's just nice having like a regular kind of
- 3:01like romance. So yeah hopefully it's enjoyable
- 3:03and I don't find it boring, but we'll see.
- 3:06Oh I forgot to add I'm also watching Yumi sells 3 which I
- 3:09which I find very boring. Oh.
- 3:11My. God that show was so boring.
- 3:15I don't I literally don't like that show really but I have to
- 3:18finish out the the arc but like I find that show so monotonous
- 3:22so. I've found God.
- 3:24What had happened was I watched Yumi Style Season 1 back in the
- 3:28day and I think there's a review, a written blog review on
- 3:32the website on tabakkramblescom. It's fine, right?
- 3:37Like it, it was fine. I don't think it warmed its way
- 3:40into my heart like that it did for other people.
- 3:42Right. I am of the minority in that I
- 3:45don't care for all of the cells. I I skipped the cell seems.
- 3:50Girl, every time the cells come up, I'm like God, like it's such
- 3:53a hassle to me to sit through the cell stuff.
- 3:57And very few of those scenes really hit for me.
- 3:59And I know that that's I'm in the minority on that.
- 4:01People really think the cells are cute and then season 2 rolls
- 4:06around and I'm like oh Dang, like here we freaking go
- 4:09multiple seasons of the Simi Sells nonsense.
- 4:11So I start season 2, I think I get about halfway and it's you.
- 4:16You Bobby is the name of the male lead in that show and Jinya
- 4:21from Got some It's almost. Like he was the highlight.
- 4:23He got me through that season. Girl.
- 4:25So I think it was like they had this kiss scene in the car and
- 4:29it was really steamy and I was like hell yeah.
- 4:31I stopped watching right after that.
- 4:34Like he had this moment. I think I maybe I watch a little
- 4:37bit more like 1 episode or something.
- 4:38He got kind of, how should I put it?
- 4:41He wavered is how they say in The Cave drama.
- 4:44It was like he got sidetracked from you, me and I.
- 4:48He got caught up. I dropped that shit like a bag
- 4:50of hot nickels. I, I was like, we don't need to
- 4:55be here anymore. So I drop Yumi Cells season 2
- 5:00and I didn't, I can't even say that it was intentional.
- 5:03I was like, OK and just moved on with my life.
- 5:05You know what I'm saying? Some drops just happen really
- 5:07organically. And then lo and behold, season 3
- 5:12comes out and I'm like, Oh my God, it just won't end.
- 5:17So that is my history with Yumi Cells.
- 5:20I have not pressed play on Season 3.
- 5:24I don't know how King Golan isn't tired of it.
- 5:27Yeah, but I don't either. I I watched the 1st 2 episodes
- 5:30and I was just like when I tell you nothing happened, nothing
- 5:34happened and my 2 was only 8 episodes.
- 5:37So I'm like, why isn't anything happening?
- 5:39I know, I know. It's it's like OK, if I'm
- 5:41signing up for an 8 episode K drama, I think the plot's gonna.
- 5:45Move. Yeah, yeah.
- 5:48I'm just shaking my head. I'm just trying to throw you
- 5:51myself. Anyway, Long story short, you're
- 5:54watching Yumi cells maybe? Yes, maybe it's against my will.
- 5:58I have to, I have to finish it because this is the last season
- 6:01and I'm like. No, let me just finish it.
- 6:03People keep promising that this is the last season.
- 6:05Oh, there's one more guy. Oh, this is an end game.
- 6:08This guy's an end game. And I'm like, what?
- 6:11What? I thought he was end game.
- 6:13So if this is not the end, I'm OK.
- 6:15I I thought that he was the end. Maybe they were hugging and
- 6:21puffing in a car right now. What do you mean he's not end
- 6:24game? Anyway, Speaking of nothing
- 6:31happening, we're going to review, Call It Love.
- 6:34And so call it love. But before we do it, this is

- 7:41watcher too. Thank you guys so much for
- 7:44supporting the show. OK, so not to already start
- 7:48digging. I don't mean to be.
- 7:52Mean about call it love. And that's that's not the extent
- 7:56of my thoughts either. I was just making a a joke.
- 8:00But we're going to talk about call it love and I will kick us
- 8:03off for this non spoiler section with the Wikipedia synopsis,
- 8:06which is blessedly simple. I thought the Asian Wiki
- 8:09synopsis and the My Drama list synopsis were like in.
- 8:12I was like, did someone illiterate write this?
- 8:14So anyway, here's the Wikipedia synopsis.
- 8:18It is a romantic melodrama about a woman whose life goes downhill
- 8:22after finding out about her father's affair and falling in
- 8:25love with his mistress's son. OK, this aired from February to
- 8:33April 2023, so it's three years old and it is 16 episodes long,
- 8:39the traditional length. We have two directors listed in
- 8:41Asian wiki for this drama, Kim Dion and EE Kwong Young.
- 8:47I believe Kim Dion might have been the Co director and the
- 8:51other screenwriter. So there's that.
- 8:54I have no info on Kim Dion really.
- 8:57There's it's like a black hole for me.
- 8:59Maybe if I was on AVPN and I can look them up as if I was in
- 9:03Korea there'd be more, but I don't have much on them.
- 9:06E Kwong Yong, this is a female director and she has most
- 9:10recently directed Idol Eye from 2025.
- 9:13I heard some nice things about Idol Eye Chunhua love story.
- 9:17No thank you. Seasons 1 and 2.
- 9:19Secret life of my secretary from 2019.
- 9:22Judge versus Judge. Have you seen this director's
- 9:24stuff before? I've seen Idol Eye.
- 9:27It was cute. It was cute, like low stakes.
- 9:30I enjoyed it OK. And I've heard of The Secret
- 9:33Life of my Secretary, which I really wanted to watch after I
- 9:36saw our male lead, Kim Young Kwong because I was like, I love
- 9:39him. I want to see his shows and I
- 9:41feel like a cute little workplace romance situation.
- 9:44I and I love the CEO the boss trope thing so I was like I need
- 9:47to watch that. Yes, you like office romances.
- 9:53That makes so much sense. OK so call it Love was written
- 9:56by King Gun. I have never heard of this
- 10:00screenwriter before and there is literally nothing but Call It
- 10:04love to her name. So for all intense purposes, I
- 10:07understand that this is her very first K drama that she's
- 10:10written. So good for King Gun.
- 10:12This show stars Kim Yong Kwan. He is Han Dong Jin.
- 10:18He's our male lead in the show. He's been in about 8 movies and
- 10:2127 TV shows. Yeah, the movies.
- 10:24He's most recently been in The First Ride from 2025.
- 10:28He's been in On Your Wedding Day from 2018.
- 10:31He won best new actor at the Pick Song Awards for that role.
- 10:36And then for television shows, you know, he's been in stuff
- 10:39since like, late 2000s, early 2010's stuff like Love Rain from
- 10:452012. I literally have told you about
- 10:48the show multiple times where it's Walk with Me, it's Yuna
- 10:54playing two roles because the parents like she falls in love
- 10:59with this guy and then they can't make it work.
- 11:03And then Yuna's character has a child and the child grows up and
- 11:07it's it's Yuna again. So it's basically like a When
- 11:12Life gives You Tangerines situation where Yuna's playing
- 11:15both mother and daughter and their children fall in love with
- 11:20each other. Great.
- 11:24Your favorite? So so that's Love Rain.
- 11:30He's also in Can We Get Married from 20/12/2013.
- 11:34I vividly remember watching episode 1 and 2 of Can We Get
- 11:37Married and I ended up dropping it because Tong Somen was so
- 11:42insufferable in that. Show man, you can.
- 11:46Yeah, and then Sung Dune is also in Can We Get Married?
- 11:51So he's the he plays the Second Mile beat in the show.
- 11:53He's also in that show. So they've starred in the same
- 11:56show together back in 20/12/2013.
- 12:00This actors been in good Doctor Pinocchio, Room number 9, Secret
- 12:03Life of my Secretary, which you just mentioned somebody from
- 12:07Netflix. I think the only thing that I
- 12:09would two things that I would want to still watch from him are
- 12:12somebody from Netflix in 2022 and Trigger from Netflix in
- 12:172025. Those are the two shows and I'm
- 12:19like I'm kind of intrigued. I'll press play on those.
- 12:22I think he plays a serial killer and somebody and there's like
- 12:27some spicy scenes. It's kind of weird.
- 12:29I'm like, yeah, I can. Maybe we're on spooky season.
- 12:33I can press play on somebody. But anyway, you have mentioned
- 12:37that you want to see him in The Secret Life of My Secretary.
- 12:39What else have you seen him in? I think it's just call it love
- 12:44and then I have Trigger on my list and then I want to watch
- 12:46Secret Life of My Secretary. And also I know that he was in
- 12:50On Your Wedding Day, which is also my list of a movie I want
- 12:53to watch. But yeah, this is like my first
- 12:54and only work I've seen him in. Yeah, so for me, I hadn't seen
- 12:59him in a long time, hadn't seen him in a few years, and he was
- 13:04not kind of the the lead of anything.
- 13:07So I was very intrigued to see him in this show and he totally
- 13:12blew me away. He was so good in it totally.
- 13:14Blew me away in the show. He was amazing.
- 13:16In Call of Love, his Co star is EI Sung Kyong.
- 13:20She plays Shimuju, the female lead.
- 13:23She is the weightlifting fairy herself.
- 13:27She's been in 17 TV shows, and we've covered two of them.
- 13:31It's all right. That's Love from 2014 was one of
- 13:34the first things that she was ever in.
- 13:36And we've also covered weightlifting fairy Kimmel Chu,
- 13:39which you and Ori are on that episode review.
- 13:43So we've covered weightlifting very to be quite honest with
- 13:46you, I've really rarely press play on something from this
- 13:50actress, right? Yisong Keung.
- 13:53She's kind of a drama face from yesteryear to me, even though
- 13:57she's sort of been like consistently working every other
- 14:00year basically since the mid twenty 10s.
- 14:05What's your experience with her? What have you seen her in?
- 14:07As you mentioned Weightlifting Fairy, which I loved her in, I
- 14:11saw her and she's in the trap. I think that was the first time
- 14:13I saw her. Yes, and who?
- 14:16OK. Or character and you know.
- 14:19She's a hot mess. Screaming.
- 14:20She's a hot mess, She's unstable, unlikable, all the
- 14:25things, but she's. Loud, you know.
- 14:27Yeah, and I also saw her and it's all right.
- 14:29That's love as well. I thought.
- 14:30I think I watched like 10 or 11 episodes of that show, which I
- 14:33need to go back to finish, but definitely.
- 14:35Yeah. But like with those three shows,
- 14:38I feel like you kind of get this chaotic energy from all of those
- 14:42roles. 100%. Very loud, chaotic, just all
- 14:46over the place. And so this was the first time I
- 14:48saw her in a role that was like very subdued, subdued, like
- 14:52honestly depressed. And I was like, OK, like.
- 14:55And so it was really cool seeing her range.
- 14:57But I've always really liked her as an actress.
- 14:59I felt like whenever she was in the show, I really enjoyed it.
- 15:03I also started in your Radiance season, which I need to go back
- 15:05and finish. Yeah.
- 15:06So yeah. But I really I I enjoy her and I
- 15:09have the the drama About Time on my never ending watch list.
- 15:12Yeah, I got like to watch that same issue.
- 15:15The watch list is miles long, but and I only have so many
- 15:19hours in the day. But I agree with you.
- 15:23I like her, but I never really like absolutely loved her in in
- 15:27anything. I didn't quite consider her an
- 15:30an actress. That sounds weird to say, but
- 15:32she's a model turned actress. I always consider her a model
- 15:34first, and she sort of maintains this mystique about her, about
- 15:40her personal life. She's not very active on social
- 15:44media and stuff. And so I really appreciate that
- 15:46she's a very private person and I think that's the way to go.
- 15:51Like if you want to be an actor or an actress especially, I
- 15:54don't need to see every little bit about your life because then
- 15:58I don't believe you later. Exactly.
- 16:01When you're trying to convince me that you're somebody else,
- 16:04you know? So I think it was around
- 16:0720/20/18. She did About Time and I
- 16:09remember seeing the promo for that and I was like, oh, that's
- 16:11way different than anything that she's done before that.
- 16:15And I was kind of surprised that it was so mellow, like the tone
- 16:19of it and everything. And I never ended up watching
- 16:21About Time, but that around that time was when she sort of made a
- 16:24conscious switch right to do other kinds of roles.
- 16:29And I remember Shooting Stars came out in 22 and people were
- 16:32bitching about that show. There was stuff that people
- 16:35didn't like about that show. And so I never prioritized it at
- 16:38all. Didn't press play Doctor
- 16:40Romantic 3. She's been in all three seasons
- 16:43of Doctor Romantic. I cannot.
- 16:44Stand medical shows. Oh, really, I need to watch
- 16:47that. OK, I don't think I've seen a
- 16:48medical K drama Oh word than Doctor Cha.
- 16:51But I think I've seen like a real like a like intense medical
- 16:55drama like the hospital playlist or something like that.
- 16:57Oh, OK, yeah, I'm not a I'm not big on medical shows.
- 17:01So I watched a few early on and I just avoid them now.
- 17:05So I've never watched any doctor romantic show.
- 17:08And then the nice guy in 2025 in your Radian season just from
- 17:12this year. I, again, don't have any pull
- 17:16obligation, nothing to watch those shows.
- 17:19Call it love really came on the radar because of you.
- 17:22And that's why I'm so happy that you're here.
- 17:25Because when 2023 rolled around and you were doing your coverage
- 17:29and you said you were singing its praises, I was like, whoa,
- 17:31is there something to call it love?
- 17:33Is there something to this? Should I dig a little deeper?
- 17:36And now we're here. Three years later, I know.
- 17:39Finally. The time goes by so fast.
- 17:41Yeah, the time. Where does the time go?
- 17:44And I'm actually so glad that I did watch Call It Love.
- 17:48It feels like a spiritual cousin to my Mr. or my liberation
- 17:55notes. And if you're into that vibe,
- 18:00this like slow, melancholic slice of life, mostly
- 18:06melodramatic, this is a show for you. 100% watch Call It Love.
- 18:12And I will say I Yeah. And I was surprised that none of
- 18:17those people that did those shows are involved and Call It
- 18:20Love. Yeah, I thought that was
- 18:22surprising. But the other people that I want
- 18:25to point out is Sung June. We already mentioned him.
- 18:27He plays Yunjin, the second male lead.
- 18:31And I will say this is a weird feeling, but I watched him in a
- 18:35bunch of stuff early on when I first started watching K dramas.
- 18:39He was in the very first K drama I ever watched, Lie to Me from
- 18:422011. He was in one of my favorite,
- 18:45favorite musical K drama, Shut Up Flower Boy Band from 2012.
- 18:50Absolutely love that show. I need to re watch it because
- 18:52I've only watched it the one time, but it left such an
- 18:53impression on me. He was obviously in Can We Get
- 18:56Married, which I dropped Goo family book from 2013.
- 19:00I watched all of these like almost within a couple of years,
- 19:03right? Yeah.
- 19:04And then I never saw him again. Never saw him again.
- 19:07And so when I see him on my screen for Call It Love as the
- 19:10second male lead, I don't know, it was a weird feeling.
- 19:15I was like, so comforted to see him again.
- 19:20I don't know if you've ever felt that way about seeing an actor
- 19:23or an actress that you used to watch and now you're getting
- 19:27reintroduced to them. You're just like.
- 19:29Where? Have you been friend?
- 19:31Like, yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 19:33And he's been around. I just haven't been watching
- 19:36him. He was in Can This Love Be
- 19:38Translated earlier this year. He's also in Perfect Crown.
- 19:42You're watching him now. Yes, right.
- 19:44So he's like he's having a renaissance right now.
- 19:46He's having a small. Renaissance, he's back, he's in
- 19:48some hot shows and I loved seeing him and I loved his role
- 19:54in Call it Love as a second male lead.
- 19:56I thought, I thought he was all the characters were just so
- 20:00well-rounded and complete, you know?
- 20:03Yes, yes. And I would love to hear your
- 20:05thoughts on Call It Love. I know you have a deep dive from
- 20:072023 on your feed. But what are your thoughts on
- 20:12Call It Love? So this show is right down my
- 20:15alley. I love really really slow, like
- 20:18melancholic dramas. So I love my liberation notes
- 20:22and dramas like that. And I was actually, was I on
- 20:25your podcast for yes, yes, my liberation notes.
- 20:28Did Yes. Yes.
- 20:30Yes. So if you want to listen to
- 20:31that, you can, but. Yes, such a great show.
- 20:35But so yeah, I was like, this is right down my alley.
- 20:37Loved. You know, I hadn't seen the male
- 20:39lead, but I I was a fan of Isan Kyong, so I was really excited
- 20:41about it. I thought the premise was
- 20:43obviously very juicy and interesting.
- 20:46And I loved it from the first episode because you see that we
- 20:49just have this family that's very broken.
- 20:52And Isan Kyong's character was extremely broken and I was just
- 20:55really interested to see like how this healing would take
- 20:58place and also how this romance would take place because it's
- 21:01starting off as honestly kind of like revenge in a way, cuz she's
- 21:04like, I need to ruin this guy's life because his mom ruined my
- 21:08life. But yeah, I thought the acting
- 21:10was beautiful. I loved the dynamic between the
- 21:12siblings. I love how slow the romance
- 21:15progressed because I love slow birds.
- 21:18So it was so good and I just thought it was really beautiful
- 21:21and I felt that this like they it just has this like message of
- 21:24forgiveness and healing that kind of like goes throughout the
- 21:26show that I really, really enjoyed.
- 21:29So like, I adore this show. I think about it fondly.
- 21:32I used to watch it like again fully because like just and take
- 21:36my time with it because I just I love the watching experience.
- 21:40Yeah, the way that I came at this, and it came at a really
- 21:44good time because not that I was in a slump, but I was just in
- 21:49the mood definitely to watch something a little more tender,
- 21:52a little more slow. And this, as soon as I press
- 21:57play on this, I was like, absolutely.
- 22:00Like this is right where I want to be and I love when a show
- 22:03hits you like just at the right time because you know, you could
- 22:06press play on something and be like, I don't feel like watching
- 22:08this right now. I feel like watching like
- 22:09whatever. And this is not a ROM com.
- 22:12This is not light. This is not fluffy.
- 22:15This is quite contemplative. This is quite slow.
- 22:19Like you said, it's definitely a slow burn.
- 22:21If you're looking for skin ship and every other episode kissing
- 22:25and every other episode, like, sorry, no, babe, that's not
- 22:27this. It's definitely a melodrama and
- 22:31I didn't know it was a melodrama.
- 22:32I really didn't read much up on Call it Love.
- 22:35I just knew it's some kind of romance.
- 22:38I didn't know anything about the premise.
- 22:39I didn't know that she was like after this guy's ass for this
- 22:43really weird revenge. And in reading the synopsis,
- 22:49like you can tell this has a classic K drama irony to it.
- 22:54Like, that premise is classic, you know, they love to tell
- 22:58stories that it's like an ironic love, you know, And I was sort
- 23:04of unprepared for the drama and how it sort of sticks to your
- 23:08bones a little bit. It's quite, it's a weird revenge
- 23:13story and it's told so tenderly. The thesis is beautiful.
- 23:19They kind of bring it forward in episode 1 where you hear this
- 23:24radio DJ talking about seeing somebody from behind and, you
- 23:29know, witnessing their lonely shadow.
- 23:31Basically pitying people is the best medicine for forgiving or
- 23:34understanding others. And I think the direct quote is
- 23:36to understand the loneliness of others.
- 23:38For me, that's the beginning of love.
- 23:42Beautiful, sensitive words that are truly the thesis of the
- 23:47whole show that like you, really.
- 23:48It's almost like a love story for empaths.
- 23:52Yeah, yeah. You know.
- 23:54That you might selfishly be looking at your own situation,
- 23:58your own pain, your own, you know, revenge.
- 24:01But other people are also suffering and going through
- 24:04their own pain. And if you just take a beat and
- 24:08look at them and the fact that this show really does commit to
- 24:11this bit, commit to this premise, this thesis.
- 24:15And so many shots are of the characters from behind, walking
- 24:19down the street from behind. And there is the way that
- 24:22they're walking and the way that the performances are sort of
- 24:25physical in that the way they carry their shoulders, are
- 24:28slumped their shoulders and, you know, swinging their arms.
- 24:32Everything about how they're carrying themselves is sad, is
- 24:37difficult, in some way painful. And they're so lonely.
- 24:41Everybody in the show is just so lonely.
- 24:44And you want the best for them. You want them to cross this
- 24:48mental hurdle and win over these emotional stakes.
- 24:53Cause again, the irony is runs very deep in their relationship.
- 24:58And I found this show completely underrated.
- 25:00I would love for more people to watch Call It Love get in on
- 25:05this because if you love those like slow intentional romances
- 25:10that feel quite meaningful and poignant, this is your bag.
- 25:14Like watch Call it love for sure.
- 25:17Yes please. I want to bring up the fact that
- 25:20you hated that winter. The wind blows.
- 25:24I sure did. You hated it.
- 25:26You hated it, Gus. There was nothing good you could
- 25:29say about that show. And here's the thing, you really
- 25:33went in on the Fosest on that. It just, I could not get past
- 25:37that. I was like, this is so terrible.
- 25:40And it mind you, they're not blood related.
- 25:42It's was not in any way insidious, but it was Fosest as
- 25:47I coined this show. Also Fosest.
- 25:51I want to argue. OK.
- 25:54Talk to me about this one. How is this one OK and the the
- 25:57other fosest is not? How?
- 26:02So this is, and I have seen this in other K dramas, right, where
- 26:08you can't fall in love with basically what is perceived as a
- 26:12step sibling. OK, this is a step.
- 26:15It was a step sibling. You're like, I don't know,
- 26:18you're already shaking your head.
- 26:21He, he was the son of the mistress.
- 26:25The mistress and her biological father were married for like 13
- 26:29years together. But she was never in the same
- 26:31house as this boy. See.
- 26:33They didn't grow. There's all these technicalities
- 26:35now. There's all these technicalities
- 26:37now. Like, no, they didn't grow up
- 26:38together. They weren't living together.
- 26:41They had nothing to do with each other.
- 26:42They've been like he. Left and had a whole different
- 26:44life with this lady. Like never crossed paths with
- 26:46this guy. Like no, no, wow no.
- 26:51Wow, so you're like it's not even fo sessed.
- 26:55It's not, and especially because the dad, the dad passes away, so
- 26:59it's like the marriage is done. You're like the connection is
- 27:02severed. Yeah, the connection is not
- 27:03even. So it's like if he's not, he's
- 27:05definitely not a step sibling now and again.
- 27:08Like I feel like for her, it's like out of sight, out of mind.
- 27:10It's like I never saw, I never saw this guy.
- 27:13Like I know like my dad's wife had, my dad's wife had a son,
- 27:17but like this person doesn't mean anything to me.
- 27:21OK, second second thing I want to bring up is should this
- 27:26mother, and I do mean he JA, the mistress, we'll call her the
- 27:30mistress for the rest of this episode.
- 27:33Should she be entered into the pantheon of worst K drama
- 27:36mothers? Absolutely a. 100% in my I was.
- 27:39Like oh shit she's horrible. No, she's literally a demon.
- 27:43No, she's menace to society. No literally.
- 27:45And honestly I feel like she got off way too easy.
- 27:48Let's well, we'll talk about it in the spoiler section, I guess.
- 27:51Yeah, but I agree. I agree.
- 27:53She got let off so easy. Yeah.
- 27:57No, she belongs in that group with the worst.
- 27:59What would you have done? What would you have done?
- 28:03Would you have press charges? And we're, we're dancing around
- 28:06what she did. Yeah.
- 28:07Would you have press criminal charges?
- 28:10Or she belongs in prison. OK.
- 28:12That's what that period, period. Yes, you belong in prison.
- 28:16You broke you like you broke the law and ruined our lives.
- 28:19Like no. And you know what?
- 28:21I'll go. I'll do you one better.
- 28:23The revenge. Which we're not gonna say
- 28:26exactly. Like how she was planning this
- 28:28revenge. Yeah.
- 28:29I thought she should have gone further.
- 28:33I was like, oh, she's not even trying.
- 28:35No at all at all. Like, she's not even trying.
- 28:41I not saying that I would do something criminal.
- 28:46Yeah, but I'm not saying I wouldn't.
- 28:53What I'm saying is she did not. She didn't commit.
- 28:59No, not at all. Like it's just.
- 29:02She didn't commit, 'cause if this whole situation happened to
- 29:05me, I would raise hell. Yeah.
- 29:10I would raise hell. And another thing, those kids,
- 29:13the three siblings, they're stupid as hell.
- 29:18They're stupid because what do you mean you didn't check with
- 29:21nobody? Right, like they just like like,
- 29:24oh, just took a word for it and they're like oh, OK, no, no,
- 29:28guess we got to leave. And it's like, no, they're.
- 29:31Consulting a bunch of lawyers, like they're going on a
- 29:34generational run of like, blowing through all these
- 29:36lawyers and consulting them, seeing what's up.
- 29:38What should we do about this situation?
- 29:40And I'm like, hey, babes, we should have done this months
- 29:46ago, months ago, because why were you just taking it lying
- 29:55down? I don't I.
- 29:56I never understood that. And they're grown.
- 29:59They're not teenagers. They're not in their early 20's.
- 30:03The 2 elder sisters are in their 30s.
- 30:07Yeah, they're established adults.
- 30:09They're adults. I was very distraught about
- 30:13their approach and how passive they were.
- 30:17Yeah, yeah. About the whole thing, I have a
- 30:21special shout out to the G Wagon in this show because the G
- 30:27Wagon, let me just say this, they had AG Wagon in this show
- 30:33for like maybe half the show. Then they had to sell the G
- 30:35Wagon and I was like, no, the G Wagon Anytime you have AG Wagon
- 30:40in a drama and I just got off watching Low Between Lines,
- 30:42which is a Chinese drama. And why did I say just got off?
- 30:46That was weeks ago that I finished this.
- 30:48But anyway, there's AG Wagon in that show that is basically
- 30:50another character. Right.
- 30:52Right. I'm like anytime something is
- 30:55happening in or around the G wagon, I I'm zeroing in on the
- 30:58six figure car, zero wing in on the six figure car because it
- 31:04begs the question what the hell are they doing in AG wagon?
- 31:09No, seriously, it doesn't. Make sense?
- 31:11What the hell are they doing in the G Wagon and I?
- 31:13Considering the condition they were in and what was happening
- 31:16in the things were. Dire and I'm like oh we should
- 31:20have sold the G wagon like 6 episodes ago matter of fact the
- 31:26so the best friend is the one that actually owns the G wagon
- 31:30like the Co CEO of this company yeah and the company is
- 31:34financially struggling they're in dire straits yeah and he's
- 31:38still riding a rouse hole in the G wagon and I'm like babe.
- 31:46Your solution's right there. What are you doing?
- 31:52So I was losing it. Every time I saw the G Wagon.
- 31:56I was like Mercedes getting some big, big product placement time
- 32:00in this show. That's hilarious.
- 32:03Man, so other thing is the tomboy situation.
- 32:09I haven't seen a tomboy in AK drama in a minute and I loved
- 32:15it. I love having tomboys bring back
- 32:18tomboys. Her wardrobe.
- 32:19Her entire wardrobe. Yeah.
- 32:21That was what I wore in middle school.
- 32:23Yeah. I know you're I'm not laughing.
- 32:28That is what I wore in middle school.
- 32:31The baggy shirts, nothing form fitting the chucks she was
- 32:36wearing my wardrobe from middle. School.
- 32:38Yeah, yeah. Chuck All Stars.
- 32:41I mean it was refreshing to see basically my middle school self
- 32:46on screen. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:47All that was missing was a messy bun.
- 32:49Yeah, that's all. I was that was.
- 32:51So true. My uniform.
- 32:53That's so true. That's literally what she wore
- 32:55the entire show. Yeah, and I half expected them
- 32:58to do a makeover. Yeah, and they they didn't.
- 33:01She just stayed true to herself. Yeah, and he loved that about
- 33:05her. He didn't say nothing about it.
- 33:06He was like, yeah, you're fine. One thing I'll say no, maybe I
- 33:10should do that in the spoiler section.
- 33:12Maybe not. Maybe.
- 33:13Well, OK, whatever. Anyway, anything else you want
- 33:17to say in the non spoiler section?
- 33:19I don't think so. I think everything else is
- 33:20spoilers. What What did you like most
- 33:23about the show? I think the storytelling was
- 33:25just so good, like the show is so slow and so mellow but I was
- 33:30left wanting more after every episode.
- 33:34Oh, OK. I never felt like, oh, OK.
- 33:36Like, I literally was like, I need to know what's gonna happen
- 33:38next. And I think that the way the
- 33:40story was crapped, it was just really engaging.
- 33:43And that's also that slow, the kind of like the slow opening up
- 33:46that like, you know, both the leads were doing.
- 33:49Like with Dong Jin, it's like he's obviously struggling in
- 33:53life and you're kind of slowly seeing him kind of like open up.
- 33:56And then with Isan Kyung's character too, it's just like
- 33:59you're slowly seeing her like kind of contemplating her mind
- 34:02as I was like, am I open to this?
- 34:03Am I open to love? Am I open to forgiveness?
- 34:06And kind of her go through that process as well.
- 34:08Very, very slowly though, but you just see these like little
- 34:11tiny changes. And it was just really just
- 34:14satisfying to see that. And I just really spoke to like
- 34:17the storytelling. So I I really loved that.
- 34:20The show, each episode is about an hour and 10 minutes.
- 34:23I didn't need those 10 minutes. Yeah, the 70 minutes is like, I
- 34:28really wish Kate Arnold would just stick to an hour.
- 34:30I feel like we can do that. Yes I wanted a simle hour and
- 34:34multiple times they would come U on.
- 34:37What is a easy, expected cliffhanger?
- 34:40Yeah, right around an hour. And then they blow past it
- 34:43another 10 minutes. And I'm like, why are we doing
- 34:47this? Why can't you just make it an
- 34:52hour? Yeah, I don't know what it is
- 34:54about the Seventies, 75 minutes, but like that extra 1015
- 34:58minutes, it really does make a difference.
- 35:00I think so too. It's just like there's a
- 35:02difference between an hour and an hour 10.
- 35:04I agree. And I teeter back and forth
- 35:06because sometimes I watch a really good hour 10 show and I'm
- 35:09like, OK, that's fine. But I feel like the vast
- 35:12majority of them, it hits me like, call it love where I'm
- 35:14like, this show is really good. You know what would make it
- 35:17better? Why don't we edit out 10 minutes
- 35:20of superfluous nonsense in this show that is crawling, mind you,
- 35:26crawling through this plot. And you know another thing?
- 35:32I was surprised. I was surprised that the lie
- 35:39went on for so long. Yeah, I was flabbergasted.
- 35:44Yeah, and I think that's what kept me like.
- 35:46Oh, really? The whole time too, because I'm
- 35:48like, OK, like when is this going to come out like this has
- 35:51been? Because this thing is so
- 35:53nervous, it is making me nervous but also I was expecting by
- 35:57right around, I don't know, episode 9 or 10, this shit shit
- 36:01would hit the fan and we get something.
- 36:04She would say who she is and how they're connected and why she's
- 36:07there and reveal this half assed revenge that she was going for.
- 36:11Yeah. We blow past 89101112.
- 36:16Still they don't say what the hell is going on.
- 36:19The siblings are in the dark. The male lead is in the dark,
- 36:22the mom is in the everybody's in the dark.
- 36:25Yeah. And it didn't sit right with my
- 36:27spirit. I'm sorry, I thought.
- 36:29Anxiety inducing but I loved it. And maybe like, that's the charm
- 36:34of the show is that it's so simple.
- 36:36They kept to 1 premise. There wasn't like, all of a
- 36:39sudden somebody from their past shows up and I have to deal with
- 36:44that in a later stage of the show.
- 36:46No, that girl, the ex who lives across from the male lead in an
- 36:53adjacent apartment, she comes back in like episode 1.
- 36:57Yeah. She comes back early.
- 36:59So they've committed to a lot of stuff really early and they just
- 37:02kept the ball in the air the rest of the show.
- 37:05Right, right. But you know, we could have, we
- 37:08could have made this a 12 episode show.
- 37:10I think that's fair. I think it definitely could have
- 37:13been 12 to 14. I'm not mad at 16, but while
- 37:16we're here. Yeah, yeah.
- 37:18Talking about how we can improve this show.
- 37:21Yeah, make it an hour. And did we need 16 episodes?
- 37:25Yeah, because if they cut off all the extra 10 minutes, we
- 37:28probably could have gotten down to like 14-12 something.
- 37:31Yeah, yes, something. I think my favorite part about
- 37:36the show is the male lead and tongjin.
- 37:40That character is so gentle. Yes.
- 37:44Is so kind, yeah. And considerate and sensitive
- 37:49and nice and he's such a gentle giant.
- 37:53And you completely understand why the female lead is suddenly
- 37:57like, I can't tell him our bad blood.
- 38:02I can't hurt this. I can't hurt this man, she said.
- 38:05She's like, he's hurting too. He like, he like, you know,
- 38:08she's expecting him to like meet this like evil person.
- 38:10And she's like, Oh my gosh, he's so kind and so gentle and he's
- 38:13sweet, hurting and like she's like, I can't do this.
- 38:17I know, I know. He's just a gentle giant.
- 38:19He's because he's so tall too. Gosh, how tall is this man, Kim
- 38:23Yong Kong? He has to be over 6 feet.
- 38:25He's like it's really tall cuz Yong is tall.
- 38:28She's a tall girl too. Hi, he's taller than her.
- 38:33He's 6 too. He's 62.
- 38:36He's very tall. But then she's also model tall,
- 38:38too. And he's taller than her so also
- 38:41he has to be over 6 feet. She's 59, yeah.
- 38:45So they look really good together.
- 38:47They did. Because it's like she's 59,
- 38:49model tall, he's 62. And you know, sometimes I'm not
- 38:54going to throw anybody under the bus.
- 38:55I don't got names on me right now, but sometimes you look up
- 38:59people's height and you're like, they don't look like that on
- 39:03screen. Yeah. 6 to where?
- 39:076 for where? You know this man looked tall as
- 39:12hell. Yeah, you can tell which
- 39:14proportions that he was tall, Yeah.
- 39:16And then her standing next to him, there's a lot of full body
- 39:18shots in this in the show. And then her standing next to
- 39:21him, I'm like, she's tall as hell too.
- 39:23Yes, and I think like their chemistry was so good and like
- 39:28to the point that when I was watching the show was like, can
- 39:30they date in real life because they look so good together.
- 39:32I really, really, really enjoyed them together and all the
- 39:36they're behind the scenes like pictures and they're like video
- 39:39clips. I will see.
- 39:40I was like they would they would be so cute together.
- 39:43They were very interesting together and I loved their
- 39:46chemistry. They had very strong chemistry
- 39:49and the way that they would look at each other.
- 39:53It was just so pregnant. Everything about it was like,
- 39:58there's something there that's building, that's growing, that's
- 40:02kicking. And they were so oddly electric
- 40:07on screen together. It wasn't like us exploding
- 40:10sexual chemistry. It was like, you know how you
- 40:14got a simmer soup sometimes? Yes, exactly.
- 40:18It was like that. It was not a rolling boil.
- 40:20Exactly. It just felt very natural that
- 40:23there was this natural like magnetic energy between them.
- 40:26I agree. So good.
- 40:27I. Agree.
- 40:28And there's something about a show that you know how when
- 40:32you're about to cry, there's like this glossy film over your
- 40:36eye, and your eye is like brimming with tears, with water.
- 40:41That was the entire show, 16 out of 16 episodes.
- 40:45That's how they looked, that they were almost gonna cry.
- 40:48Just on the verge. They just like held.
- 40:51So good, so good. And I can't do that at least
- 40:55once that the fact that they were doing that for multiple
- 40:58takes and to do that throughout the show, I mean, props to them.
- 41:03Yes, props to them. It was very beautiful, beautiful
- 41:06show. And like you said about healing
- 41:09and this sort of journey toward a reexamination of revenge,
- 41:14exactly because who is revenge really going to help exactly?
- 41:19It's corrosive to the soul, to the spirit, and it doesn't help
- 41:24nobody. Exactly.
- 41:25And I think for this show, what also made it really refreshing
- 41:28was this is easily a plot point that could have been done in
- 41:32like the mid 2000s would have been just like super mahjong and
- 41:36like off the rails, just wild. And like they took something
- 41:39that could have potentially been so messy and still made this
- 41:43like, very quiet, healing, gentle story.
- 41:46So I feel like it was like a refreshing take on a trope that
- 41:49could have been really, really messy, you know, 10 years.
- 41:53Not that it wasn't. Messy.
- 41:54Yeah, it definitely was messy before, but the way they did it
- 41:58was like you. You don't even realize that.
- 42:00Yeah. They're doing it in slow motions
- 42:03and I think it helped its case, yeah.
- 42:05What would you rate the show out of Five's Hoja bottles?
- 42:08Five out of five, five out. Of five.
- 42:12Love this show so much. It was my favorite show that
- 42:15came out that year and I watched it in real time and it was like
- 42:19I still think about it's like in my top 20 for my favorite like K
- 42:21dramas. I love this show so much.
- 42:24Oh. My gosh, I think I'd give it 4/4
- 42:28and 1/2, maybe 4 1/2 out of $500 'cause I think it really it
- 42:33worked for me. I left thinking I need to pay
- 42:38attention to these actors more. I need to pay attention to these
- 42:42creatives more. The directors and the
- 42:45screenwriter. Or I guess it's screenwriters
- 42:48and directors because there's one person there that maybe did
- 42:50both. I don't know.
- 42:51Anyway, they definitely have some skill here because it cut
- 42:57deep. Yeah, it did.
- 42:59It really did awesome. All right, so we'll see you on
- 43:03the other side of spoilers. Excuse me.
- 43:06I can't tell. I can't tell.
- 43:08You know, I have no tingle. Oh, sorry.
- 43:13Swear. Discussing shirts.
- 43:16What? All right, we're on the other
- 43:20side of spoilers. So we're going to spoil what
- 43:22happens and call it love. What is the beef?
- 43:24What's the drama? What's the bad blood between
- 43:27these people and how does it resolve?
- 43:30And one thing I will say that I stopped myself from saying was
- 43:33that their mom, the three siblings they have their mom
- 43:38come back into the picture sort of towards the end of the show
- 43:42because she lives in Pyongyang. I don't some somewhere else.
- 43:46She doesn't live in salt with them, which isn't that
- 43:49surprising because they're all grown.
- 43:51They're living in the family home for 20 years and I'm sure
- 43:54that she wants some space has has another life elsewhere or
- 43:57whatever, but in K drama land, this is weird.
- 44:01Yeah, for them to be living in the family home and she doesn't
- 44:04live there, so I thought that was a little odd.
- 44:10That being said, they make it seem like this woman is dead for
- 44:15the majority of the show. They did, and I.
- 44:17Thought they were joking when the second male lead is kind of
- 44:20like, I'm going to call your mom.
- 44:22I'm going to tell her what's going on, what you've been
- 44:24doing. And I'm like, what is this?
- 44:25OK tattle tale? But also is the mom really alive
- 44:30because she is not. They are not calling her.
- 44:34They don't tell her anything about the fact that they lost
- 44:37the house. Nothing at all.
- 44:38And so when she comes back in the picture, I was like, this
- 44:41lady just should have been dead, like, the whole time.
- 44:44Yeah. Did you feel any kind of way
- 44:46about their mom and that character?
- 44:49I try to be empathetic towards her because I'm sure it was very
- 44:52traumatic to, you know, find out your husband.
- 44:55She found out she cheating on you.
- 44:56She leaves the family. Yeah, in that house, yes.
- 45:01And so it's traumatic. And I get that, you know, she's
- 45:05like, OK, my kids are grown, I just need to get out of here.
- 45:08And so I I empathize with her in that way.
- 45:12But her kids were going through it.
- 45:15They were all struggling and like she wasn't there and I
- 45:20just, I don't know, like it. It just like I understood where
- 45:23she was coming from, but like they were all having such a hard
- 45:26time and the fact that like, they couldn't they I guess
- 45:30because things had gotten so bad, they couldn't even call her
- 45:33and be like, hey, mom, like we lost the house.
- 45:35We did this. We did that.
- 45:35Like, they're, they're the fact they felt that they even had to
- 45:37handle all that stuff on their own.
- 45:39I agree, was like crazy to me. And so it really showed that
- 45:42like this relationship really must be like fractured in a way
- 45:44because they can't even call her and tell her like what's going
- 45:47on and they're struggling. Like they were all just
- 45:50struggling. So it was, yeah.
- 45:52So I just felt like, Dang, like, I wish that she could have been
- 45:55been there for them. And then she just kind of pops
- 45:57up like, was it 3/4 of the way through the show?
- 46:00Yeah, 3. Fourths of the way and I'm like,
- 46:02oh, so she does live. I yeah, I'm telling you she
- 46:06should have just been dead the whole time because the dead had
- 46:09this like presence to them that like you can't speak I'll of the
- 46:14dead, whatever, whatever. And I think it would have been.
- 46:19I mean, it's cruel to do that to this character because her, you
- 46:22know, she got cheat on to whatever lost her marriage in
- 46:26the in a very cruel way, because it's not just like he was
- 46:28cheating and you caught you saw a text message on his phone.
- 46:32No, she caught him in the house stealing all the family jewelry
- 46:36and valuables and the woman that he was cheating with, the
- 46:40mistress was in the house too. And the this bitch is madding in
- 46:47raging because they got here staring down the family portrait
- 46:51and looking smug and so smart like she's a hater.
- 46:56Like she's the biggest OP in this whole show.
- 46:58No, seriously, just a purely evil woman.
- 47:01Purely evil. And so this the mom comes in and
- 47:04finds this situation happening and the dad does not feel badly.
- 47:09No, no. Leaves still with all that shit,
- 47:13all the family money, the funds and absconds with his mistress.
- 47:18Yeah. So I feel for her.
- 47:20She should have been dead. She got sick.
- 47:22They said that she got sick not long after that.
- 47:25Exactly. And the middle child, our female
- 47:28lead, had to quit archery, not go to college.
- 47:34She didn't choose to go to college and stay home to take
- 47:37care of the mom. Yeah.
- 47:39For a health crisis. We don't know what she was sick
- 47:41with, but the health crisis was. Exactly.
- 47:43But I was like, OK, so she should have died.
- 47:46Because her presence. Wasn't.
- 47:49I don't think it was necessary. Yeah, for the resolution of the
- 47:53added anything to the what the part of the show that she was in
- 47:57I don't think we needed we needed her presence there that.
- 48:00Lady was graceful and classy and elegant.
- 48:04So classy. We're still talking about the
- 48:07mom. Yes, she took the High Road time
- 48:09and time again. Yeah, definitely.
- 48:12And I even think back to like, I really did love the scene when
- 48:14she was talking to the Mistress though.
- 48:16No, that was I. Literally.
- 48:18I was like, OK, she paid her rent finally, yes.
- 48:21I could have stood up and clapped during that scene
- 48:24because she maintained her class and her dignity talking to this
- 48:27despicable woman. Oh my God.
- 48:30And I was like, wow. And the woman has no remorse.
- 48:33Like, she doesn't care. Like she doesn't feel bad.
- 48:36And she refuses to apologize to the to the end.
- 48:40She will not apologize. Correct.
- 48:42And the mom was just so graceful and so classy and full of
- 48:45dignity and integrity and just like, I forgive you.
- 48:48And it's just like, I Yeah. And this.
- 48:50Is we're sitting in my house, yes.
- 48:53That was left to my children that you have defrauded us out
- 48:58of. Yes.
- 49:00And I still forget. And then she had to the fact
- 49:02that she had to leave that house and leave her that that Lady
- 49:05still in the house. Yes, the way she walked away, I
- 49:08was like mic drop, this is amazing and that's not the I
- 49:11would. Not saying I would commit a
- 49:12crime, but I'm not saying I wouldn't commit a crime.
- 49:17I have crazy. Eyes so well, no like she had I.
- 49:22Oh my God. Kick them out of their own house
- 49:24after you stole you. You, you like that.
- 49:26You ruin the family, destroy their family, and then when the
- 49:30husband dies you take their house.
- 49:33And maybe there's like a maybe there is a very Christian
- 49:37undertone to the whole show because this Hung Kyung's
- 49:42character, Shimuju, the female lead, is a very eye for an eye,
- 49:46Old Testament, wrath of God kind of person.
- 49:51She wants blood. I don't think she really wants
- 49:55blood, but that's what she says. She talks a big game, Yeah,
- 49:58she's angry. She's angry.
- 50:00She is resentful of her dad, but also the mistress.
- 50:05Like, mostly she's putting a lot of pressure and hate on the
- 50:09mistress. Valid though, because that bitch
- 50:12is Wilding out the whole show. Terrible, terrible, terrible
- 50:16lady. But the mom, when she comes back
- 50:19into the show and her journey, Shimuju's journey, the female
- 50:23leads journey throughout the show is 1 of forgiveness and one
- 50:26of letting go and one of showing grace when grace has not been
- 50:35given or shown to you and you have every right to demand
- 50:39justice. And for her, it was went beyond
- 50:42just so she wanted to get back at these people.
- 50:44Yeah, yeah. Maybe that's like a very
- 50:48Christian thing that the show, the message is also that.
- 50:53Or it's like, hey, it's not going to feel nice, but
- 50:57forgiveness is always the best path.
- 51:00Yeah, I totally agree with that. And I think that's why I loved
- 51:03the overall message of the show because in reality, it's like we
- 51:07are called to forgive and we're not always going to get that
- 51:10apology. We're not always going to get
- 51:12that closure. It's not always going to end up
- 51:15working out and everything is fair and right.
- 51:17Right. But she made the conscious
- 51:19choice to say, even though you still are not sorry, I forgive
- 51:24you. And I feel like because she was
- 51:25able to forgive this woman and. It's tough.
- 51:28It allowed her to have that room in her heart.
- 51:30Yeah. To love, Yeah.
- 51:32And so I feel like when she was finally able to let that go, the
- 51:36you could see the weight physically lift off of her.
- 51:38Yes. And even like in the at the end
- 51:41of the show, like seeing her smile, we didn't see.
- 51:46Neither of them smile. Yeah.
- 51:48And like when Wujin like, started smiling and like
- 51:51Dongjin, like I remember like at the end of the show, after he
- 51:54had kind of gone on his own journey and like he went on his
- 51:57travels and he was camping and doing all his stuff.
- 51:58And when his friends come into the fact like, wow, you look so
- 52:01much lighter. Like you're, you're smiling.
- 52:03And it was like seeing him smile, seeing her seeing Wuju
- 52:07smile. I was just like, wow, the power
- 52:09of forgiveness because you just like holding on to the
- 52:12bitterness and the anger. It's only killing you at the end
- 52:15of the day. It's only killing at the end of
- 52:17the day. The other person doesn't care.
- 52:19They don't care. They don't care.
- 52:21It's hard was like, you have to like you have to let go and
- 52:23forgive because you're only hurting yourself.
- 52:26And that is a tough pill for me to swallow.
- 52:28Like God's still working on me off about this because I love
- 52:32revenge. I love being petty and the way
- 52:38that I was supporting her in like, her evil endeavour to ruin
- 52:43Tojin's life and ruin his business and somehow get the
- 52:47house back. Like the fact that she was
- 52:49trying to like do all this. I'm like, you're never going to
- 52:51get the house back. But yeah, ruin that man's life.
- 52:54That was my point of view. And it's not the way you should
- 52:59go back your life. It's not the way, not the way.
- 53:04And it's tough because I want that satisfaction, You know, you
- 53:09want them to be sorry. You want them to return what
- 53:15belongs to you. Yeah.
- 53:19They never get, like, the punishment that they deserve.
- 53:23And I know I asked you in the front non spoiler section, what
- 53:27would you have done? Because it's towards the end of
- 53:29the show, it becomes a sort of like, are we as a family going
- 53:32to press charges against the mistress who stole the house,
- 53:38embezzled, lied, tried to sell the house?
- 53:41Like all these compounding craps?
- 53:44Not to mention the actual cruelty of it, which cannot be
- 53:47prosecuted really. Like what?
- 53:49What are they supposed to do if they if the best fret?
- 53:51If Sungjung's character didn't take them in, they would have
- 53:53been on the streets. That becomes the question, are
- 53:56they going to press charges? The family is struggling with
- 53:59this, you know, all three siblings and the mom, the mom
- 54:02ends up kind of being like, look, if she moves out of the
- 54:06house expeditiously with them, we're not going to press
- 54:10charges. Like she kind of said, Like,
- 54:11look, if you keep on with this, it's going to end badly for you.
- 54:16And, you know, we're going to end up being forced to press
- 54:19charges and get our house back quickly that way through
- 54:23prosecuting a criminal case. What you said was, yeah, I would
- 54:27have pressed charges, Yeah, I would have 100%.
- 54:31I would have pressed charges. Yeah.
- 54:32I think, like I think there's a, there's a, yes.
- 54:35How you can forgive? Yes, you can forgive, but also
- 54:39the pressing of charges doesn't have nothing to do with.
- 54:42Me forgiving you? You literally stole my house.
- 54:46Yes, from under me. It's not your house, so it's
- 54:49like you can't do this now. I think like with what to with
- 54:53the mom, like I think perhaps I probably would have done
- 54:56something similar like let's try to figure out a compromise If
- 54:59you move out like today, let's just you know, but if you insist
- 55:03on staying like we will go to court, yes, like I think that's
- 55:06a fair. She kind of said like, the ball
- 55:08is in your court, but I'm not going to blink first, OK?
- 55:13And what's funny is the mistress had a boyfriend who ends up
- 55:19pressing charges. I forgot about the boyfriend.
- 55:22So I had a lot of questions about this like this is a weak
- 55:25link of the show is that I was confused about this whole thing.
- 55:29The boyfriend and he was living with her but I thought he was
- 55:34the sugar daddy but ended up like he was borrowing.
- 55:37He he borrowed money from her or something like that.
- 55:40She borrowed money from him. Something was going on there
- 55:42because he owed money and he couldn't get the money from her,
- 55:47right, the mistress. And so he was like, OK, well, if
- 55:50you sell the house, I take the proceeds of the house because
- 55:54you owe this money. And I really couldn't wrap my
- 55:57head around, I was like, who owes money to who?
- 56:01Why is he so hell bent on recording all of their
- 56:03conversations right and incriminating her?
- 56:08It just seemed like he was a bitter ex who wanted to take her
- 56:12down but then he would also be incriminated by him submitting
- 56:16all of this stuff and pressing charges.
- 56:18Exactly exactly about the house fraud.
- 56:21That was her consequence for being a scammer.
- 56:23Honestly, it was really bizarre. It was very strange.
- 56:28I remember being confused about what was going on with them.
- 56:30It felt like a cop out. Is what else?
- 56:32Yeah, yeah. It felt like a cop out because
- 56:35the people who really should have been demanding justice,
- 56:39we're like, you know what, like we don't have to do that.
- 56:44We're just going to keep this in the civil court or whatever.
- 56:49We don't have to make it a criminal case and press charges.
- 56:53Then she she still gets she still has to do the whole
- 56:57prepping of the trial and Oh well, if the victims I don't
- 57:03understand, I really don't understand like the whole
- 57:05rigmarole of this a criminal case that ends up happening
- 57:08anyway because of the boyfriend. I didn't get.
- 57:11I remember being very confused by that whole storyline.
- 57:14Yes. I was like, why is he pressing
- 57:16criminal charges when, yeah, he's not?
- 57:18Because he's going to get in trouble and.
- 57:20Then he's going to get in trouble.
- 57:21Anyway, brings forth his evidence they're going.
- 57:24To be like they're like, you were in on it with her.
- 57:26You were an accomplice. Yeah.
- 57:29So it's just like, it's not like you're going to get immunity or
- 57:31anything. So I didn't really understand
- 57:33what his angle. Was it was bizarre and that's
- 57:35why I'm like, this is a weak link of the show because they
- 57:37try and kind of force the criminal trial without the
- 57:43family being the ones leading the charge on that.
- 57:47Yeah, yeah. They still.
- 57:49I mean, what's the term? In the final episode, the mom
- 57:53goes and talks with Wuju, the female lead, so that she will
- 57:59provide a non punishment application letter.
- 58:02And I was like, you know, thank God that I live in the United
- 58:06States because this sounds all kind of wrong.
- 58:10But like, you can just go to the victim and be like, why don't
- 58:13you request that I do not get punished for the crime that I
- 58:19committed against you? She's wicked inside and out of
- 58:23like the audacity of this woman. And she she basically says later
- 58:27on, like in that same episode, I got scared because they were
- 58:30mentioning prison time. Well, that's what happens when
- 58:33you commit crimes and fraud. Girl, you did all this and
- 58:39didn't think about the consequences?
- 58:41You just thought that they were just gonna let you like, take
- 58:43their house forever that you stole.
- 58:45It literally it just enrages me. It enrages me so wild that she
- 58:51wasn't sorry, she was sorry she got caught.
- 58:53Oh yeah, She was not sorry. She did not care.
- 58:55She refused to apologize. She.
- 58:57Refused. But that conversation is very
- 59:01interesting, the one between Heeda, the mistress, and Wuju,
- 59:05because she says to her, you have no idea, like how you've
- 59:09ruined my life for the past 13 years.
- 59:12I've had no peace, no comfort since the age of 17.
- 59:15And it was easier to hate you than it was to hate my dad.
- 59:18So I was like, oh, that's actually quite interesting for
- 59:21her to say that directly to the mistress, who, mind you, was
- 59:27scoffing and incredulous. And I can't believe I'm getting
- 59:31all the blame and that you hated me all these years.
- 59:35Like I was screaming during that because I was like, fix your
- 59:37face. Are you serious right now?
- 59:40Are you serious right now? You don't get to be smug.
- 59:42No, you kidding me? You do not have the right to be
- 59:45smug. So I want to slap her face the
- 59:47whole the whole show, but she's telling her this like stuff from
- 59:51the heart, right? She's like, hey, I hated you.
- 59:54I hated your guts for 13 years when I really should have been
- 59:59dealing with my resentment toward my dad, who it takes 2 to
- 1:00:03tango. My dad's the one who showed up
- 1:00:05at the house with you and ran. Off with you, like ruin the
- 1:00:09family. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:11She tells her to her face. I'm going to stop hating you.
- 1:00:14This is when I was like, oh, that's God.
- 1:00:16Because, she says. And I wish you well, yes.
- 1:00:18I was like, wow, wow. I was like, this is this is the
- 1:00:23power of forgiveness. Like you could tell that she
- 1:00:25fully released her. I'm not going to give you the
- 1:00:28power that you have over me anymore.
- 1:00:29Like, yes, it's done. It's released.
- 1:00:32I'm going to go back to the beginning of the show and talk
- 1:00:34about the intro sequence that's at the beginning.
- 1:00:36Of yeah. It is so good.
- 1:00:40I love that intra sequence of shots of people from behind
- 1:00:44these shadows and silhouettes and it's so romantic and cozy
- 1:00:48and sad. And that's the show.
- 1:00:49And that show, it's romantic and cozy and sad.
- 1:00:53Yes, literally. That's the perfect way to
- 1:00:54describe it. What did you think of her
- 1:00:57showing up at the funeral at the beginning of the show?
- 1:00:59I loved that scene. I it was like she literally
- 1:01:03walked into the funeral. I She had like a leopard print,
- 1:01:06like a short leopard print dress, right?
- 1:01:08Yes, yes she did. And red pumps.
- 1:01:11And red pumps and she just, like, struts in there.
- 1:01:14Her dad's funeral and everyone's just like, and she's just like
- 1:01:19and sunglasses and all cater blockers.
- 1:01:21I'm here, yeah. I'm here.
- 1:01:24Yeah, she was acting crazy, but I was like, she was, she wasn't
- 1:01:26even acting that crazy in there. Right but it was just like rage
- 1:01:30personified. It was a really powerful scene.
- 1:01:32I was like, wow, okay, she's not playing around.
- 1:01:34I. Thought it was interesting.
- 1:01:35She kind of left it up to chance, which I felt added to
- 1:01:41her character. Like you don't really know her
- 1:01:43right now, but you know that, you know, she's depressed, she's
- 1:01:46angry at something. We don't even know the full
- 1:01:48story yet. And she bets the second male
- 1:01:51lead. Look, if it rains tomorrow,
- 1:01:54which is the day of the funeral, she had a text from an aunt
- 1:01:57saying, oh, the funeral's tomorrow.
- 1:01:58And she's like, wow, they were, they weren't even going to tell
- 1:02:00me. It was a neighborhood auntie
- 1:02:04that was like, hey, I don't know if you know this.
- 1:02:05Your dad's funeral is tomorrow. Can you believe that?
- 1:02:08None of your blood relations let you know?
- 1:02:11Anyway, so she tells the second Molly, if it rains tomorrow, I'm
- 1:02:15going to do something crazy. And he said there's a 10% chance
- 1:02:19of rain tomorrow. Yeah, I'll take your bet.
- 1:02:22And so she goes, OK, fine. The day, the day progresses and
- 1:02:27it starts raining. And she was like, well, that's a
- 1:02:31sign. Yeah.
- 1:02:32I like that there's still like that sort of cosmic interference
- 1:02:36happening here. Exactly.
- 1:02:38Yeah, it was very interesting, but it was definitely a great
- 1:02:41way to open the show for sure. The shot of her walking in the
- 1:02:45rain though, Yeah, the slow motion shot of her walking in
- 1:02:48the rain, and the rain is falling up.
- 1:02:52That's the thing that sticks in my head.
- 1:02:53And she's walking forward and everyone around her is going
- 1:02:57backward. I love that effect.
- 1:03:00I love that effect. She's going against the grain.
- 1:03:03She's swimming upstream. She's the opposite of everyone
- 1:03:05else. And it feels so cinematic.
- 1:03:11So I love that scene. And she references that scene
- 1:03:13finally in like the last episode, because we don't really
- 1:03:16know for sure what's going through her head, what she was
- 1:03:19feeling. You can just kind of guess at
- 1:03:21the five of the whole thing. And she says in the final
- 1:03:24episode, sometimes I wondered how everyone else walked forward
- 1:03:28when I always felt like I was walking backward.
- 1:03:30It was because I had so much hate in me.
- 1:03:33Once I let that go, I finally realized if I hadn't met you,
- 1:03:36I'd be walking backwards for the rest of my life.
- 1:03:41Oh my gosh, I was like, who loves this show?
- 1:03:45Yeah, I couldn't believe they circled back on that.
- 1:03:50She addressed it. Drama does like a full circle
- 1:03:52moment like that because just shows how intentional every,
- 1:03:55every scene is. And I love that.
- 1:03:57Yeah, love it. He said.
- 1:03:59She's talking about like, I can't believe you didn't.
- 1:04:01You didn't. You couldn't hate me after
- 1:04:03everything. Then the bad blood between my
- 1:04:05mother and your mother, my family and your mom.
- 1:04:08You took my side and you empathized with me and you you
- 1:04:12were sad for me. And he said, mind you, they're
- 1:04:15already like deeply in love by this point.
- 1:04:17So the still last episode, he says, I couldn't hate you
- 1:04:20because the love you gave me was so much bigger than the pain you
- 1:04:23gave me. Don't you?
- 1:04:26Just some lies. You just want to marinate in
- 1:04:28them. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:04:29Seriously. So I love that.
- 1:04:33And he said you gave me everything, support,
- 1:04:36consolation, love. Thank you for loving me.
- 1:04:38And they promptly break up. I I know, I know.
- 1:04:44I don't think I was upset, but I was like upset, you know,
- 1:04:46because it made a lot of sense why they wanted to part with.
- 1:04:51Yes, there was some healing they needed to do separately, which I
- 1:04:53got. I was like, after those
- 1:04:55speeches, I was like, I was like, now what?
- 1:05:00Yeah, because after that I would have been like, so we're going
- 1:05:04to meet at the courthouse at 9:00 AM tomorrow, right?
- 1:05:06It's. Like what do you?
- 1:05:08Mean we're not going to be forever.
- 1:05:14Yeah. And then the one year later time
- 1:05:16jump. Yes.
- 1:05:18Let's talk about the second male lead.
- 1:05:19Yes. Yes, and the sister?
- 1:05:21Why don't you go first? What are your thoughts on these
- 1:05:23two? OK, so first of all, his song,
- 1:05:26her sister, yeah. I feel like Wuju was the oldest
- 1:05:30sibling even though she was the middle sibling.
- 1:05:32I agree. This is another case of I think
- 1:05:34the mom should have been dead. Yeah, I think the female lead,
- 1:05:38Wuju, should have been the oldest sibling.
- 1:05:41Yeah, she felt that way. She read that way.
- 1:05:45If you would have told me of these three siblings, you don't
- 1:05:47know who is the oldest, which one of them is the oldest, I
- 1:05:52would have said Wuju, and you would have been wrong.
- 1:05:54She's the middle child and I don't believe they wrote her
- 1:05:57like a middle child. Not at all.
- 1:05:59Not at all. So I don't really know how she
- 1:06:01became the way she did. Hey, Song is not an oldest
- 1:06:05sibling. No, she's not.
- 1:06:07She's so flighty. Like, she's not like, like,
- 1:06:10because Wuju, she's a go getter. She's gonna fix it.
- 1:06:13She's gonna find a solution. Right?
- 1:06:16And his song's like, what's happening?
- 1:06:17What do we do now? Like, she's just, like, all over
- 1:06:19the place. Yeah, she's scatterbrained and
- 1:06:22very scatterbrained love. I was gonna say love stoned.
- 1:06:26Yeah, she wants to be in a relationship so bad, and she's
- 1:06:34just. Like she's just.
- 1:06:35The hopeless romantic. And that's what her focus I.
- 1:06:37Know, and you know what, my best friend growing up was very much
- 1:06:42like Hey Song. She came from an abusive
- 1:06:45household, which I'm not saying that the household was abusive.
- 1:06:48Yeah. But there's levels to everything
- 1:06:51and I think she was definitely the oldest sister.
- 1:06:53Hesong was scarred by the entire situation, the falling out that
- 1:06:57happened in the family, the ruinous mistress relationship
- 1:07:01that sort of imploded everything and she's desperate for that
- 1:07:06male. Validation, yes.
- 1:07:08I feel like there's like some Arrested Development there.
- 1:07:10Something just was was off about.
- 1:07:12Her 100% so she was giving and my friend was the second child
- 1:07:19and so it just like made me think, OK, she's written like
- 1:07:22they wrote her wrong. She should not be the oldest
- 1:07:25child. She should be the middle child.
- 1:07:26Yeah, it was not giving me oldest daughter, was not giving
- 1:07:28me an oldest daughter. I was like, this is, this is and
- 1:07:31no, this is not realistic to be an oldest daughter and to be
- 1:07:34like. Right.
- 1:07:34It basically it took me out of the show in the same way that
- 1:07:37I'm like, the mom should be dead.
- 1:07:38Yeah, this, this girl is. Not the oldest.
- 1:07:42So hey song very similar to my friend was in Spanish.
- 1:07:46We say in Amarala. Like she's constantly in love,
- 1:07:49constantly looking for love, and she's had a string of horrible
- 1:07:53relationships. Yes, I felt really bad for her
- 1:07:55because you see that that's how her brokenness shows up, right?
- 1:07:59It shows up differently in all the siblings, but that's how her
- 1:08:01shows up. I agree.
- 1:08:02I was concerned at first because I thought that Sung Jun's
- 1:08:05character they were gonna kinda do trying to do like a love
- 1:08:07triangle thing. I'm so glad that he was
- 1:08:09genuinely it was quite smart. I loved his character so much
- 1:08:12because he was like a brother to I loved her Major.
- 1:08:17Sibling. Energy, yes, yeah.
- 1:08:19I loved their relationship. I loved it so much.
- 1:08:22I was like, oh, this is so refreshing.
- 1:08:24And I love that he just became everything like hey song needed.
- 1:08:27Cuz you know, there's like insecurity there.
- 1:08:30There's just so many things. There's so many layers to her.
- 1:08:32To be clear, I was saying that. They're giving off sibling
- 1:08:34energy, but I was mostly meaning between him and the female lead.
- 1:08:38Oh, yeah, no, but I was talking about Wuju.
- 1:08:39Yeah, yeah, I was talking about Wuju because I used to.
- 1:08:41Love hay song and I was like Oh no, she.
- 1:08:43Was oh, no, no, no. I was just sorry.
- 1:08:44I was just moving on to the romantic relationship.
- 1:08:46But yeah, but him and Wuju's relationship, it was just
- 1:08:49strictly brother and sister. And I loved how he was.
- 1:08:51He was so ride or die for that family as a whole because even
- 1:08:54when the mom came into town, of course the mom had to stay there
- 1:08:57too. So it's just like he was so ride
- 1:08:59or die for this family. And I love that.
- 1:09:01And even how he treated the little brother as well, like I
- 1:09:04he was. He's a superb character.
- 1:09:05They truly became a surrogate family for him.
- 1:09:08And you don't quite understand, and this isn't done in every K
- 1:09:11drama where you might have this same dynamic, but you don't
- 1:09:14understand why the second male leader, second female leader,
- 1:09:18whoever is so about this family embedded in another family,
- 1:09:23What's going on with them? You find out what's going on
- 1:09:26with him. And I was like, Oh no, this show
- 1:09:29got better. Because his family dynamic is
- 1:09:33militaristic. It's highly patriarchal.
- 1:09:36The mother is extremely subservient to the father.
- 1:09:40They are not talkers, They're not close.
- 1:09:44They are quite strict and conservative.
- 1:09:48And so to see him in that environment being so suffocated
- 1:09:53and him being so comfortable and open with the siblings, you're
- 1:10:00like, oh, I totally understand why he loves the siblings, why
- 1:10:03he wants them around, why he openly from freely offered his
- 1:10:07home to them when they were out of a house.
- 1:10:10And you know, it's one of those things where you're like, I love
- 1:10:13your family. Can I join?
- 1:10:15Can exactly. And found family.
- 1:10:17It's found family in a way, in a very real way.
- 1:10:21Yes, and I, I really loved it. I loved it.
- 1:10:24And him and his song. This was Yeah, they like, they
- 1:10:27were very cute. I like them.
- 1:10:28I think that he was. I could have had a show just
- 1:10:31them too. Yeah, especially towards the end
- 1:10:33when they like actually got together and it was just like,
- 1:10:35oh, like this is good. Like they are such a good match.
- 1:10:38Also can we like have a quick did you notice how his hair
- 1:10:42transformed you? Know I didn't like that I didn't
- 1:10:44not not appreciate that because I liked the longer scruffy,
- 1:10:53obviously dyed at some point hair.
- 1:10:57Then we get the one year time drum by the end of the show and
- 1:10:59I was like no, no, because they chopped it and it was a darker
- 1:11:04colour and he just looked too buttoned up to.
- 1:11:09And here's another thing I'll say K dramas love a hot
- 1:11:13pharmacist. They love a hot.
- 1:11:15Pharmacist This is because. What's the other way?
- 1:11:19It's not Chung. Chung in yes, Chunk in spring,
- 1:11:23Night in one. Spring night is another hot
- 1:11:25pharmacist. And.
- 1:11:26I here's what I'll say about pharmacist.
- 1:11:30I would love me a hot pharmacist, first of all,
- 1:11:33Second, So if there's any hot pharmacist listening, hit me up.
- 1:11:36Second of all, I have a bunch of Puerto Rican cousins that live
- 1:11:41on the island and for some reason growing up, you know,
- 1:11:46we're all of similar ages. The word out of Puerto Rico from
- 1:11:50my great aunt was that all the Puerto Rican kids want to grow
- 1:11:55up and be a pharmacist. This is like, there's like a run
- 1:11:58on this industry, this this profession.
- 1:12:02There's a run on this profession and I have I think 2 cousins
- 1:12:07that are pharmacists. Wow.
- 1:12:10They're not hot, OK? I saw them growing up.
- 1:12:12I. I used.
- 1:12:15To be so embarrassed to walk around with my cousin Lenny
- 1:12:18because he had a rat tail. I'm dying.
- 1:12:23And so I'm like, Lenny is a pharmacist.
- 1:12:27Oh my God. So the fact that pharmacy as a
- 1:12:34job and profession is so intrinsically tied to my friggin
- 1:12:39Puerto Rican cousins and the island of Puerto Rico, I don't
- 1:12:45like that at all. I'm crazy.
- 1:12:47I don't like that one bit. A rat tail.
- 1:12:51A rat tail? Tell me why I'm walking around
- 1:12:54Key West with a cousin that has a rat tail and he didn't just
- 1:13:02have it for one like 1 summer, he had it for years.
- 1:13:07Wow. The commitment.
- 1:13:09Wow. I hated it.
- 1:13:12I I was like, get farther away from me.
- 1:13:17Yeah. So there's that, man.
- 1:13:19So there's that tie in. That's so.
- 1:13:22I know. Anyway, Long story short, it
- 1:13:25took a minute for me to be like, oh pharmacist, oh pharmacist, to
- 1:13:29get it out of my head what my experience with pharmacy is.
- 1:13:35But once I got through that hurdle, once I got through that
- 1:13:37mental block, I was like Song Jun, this actor as a hot
- 1:13:43pharmacist, like I will be in there all day picking up
- 1:13:46prescriptions and Bambi and so. As well.
- 1:13:50Yes, he invited so well, no. And then the little voice that
- 1:13:54he would put on when he was calling out patients names for
- 1:13:57them to pick up their prescription.
- 1:13:59Yes. How do I put it?
- 1:14:02It'd be like, oh, I can't even say it, but it was like sing
- 1:14:06songy sometimes. I mean, like, it was kind of
- 1:14:09like that. And he would do it multiple
- 1:14:11times in the show. But anyway, Long story short, I
- 1:14:15loved this man and I did not appreciate the chop they gave
- 1:14:18him in the time jump. I was annoyed with him only a
- 1:14:23couple of times in the show because I thought he was doing
- 1:14:24too much, right? He's the only one that knows
- 1:14:26about the secret, that knows about her backhanded revenge
- 1:14:30that she's doing. She's embedded herself in this
- 1:14:32company and she's trying to sabotage this man.
- 1:14:35Trying to sabotage. Don't get in the mail lead.
- 1:14:38At one point, he kind of, she sleeps out.
- 1:14:40She sleeps outside the house. Yeah.
- 1:14:43And he kind of becomes angry and shows up at the job the next day
- 1:14:49outside the work building, and he's waiting for her.
- 1:14:53And what was his intention? Like?
- 1:14:56Was he just going to spill the beans right there?
- 1:14:58Why was he confronting her instead of opening the pharmacy?
- 1:15:00So I had a lot of issues with the fact that he started doing
- 1:15:04too much. And it was giving jealous.
- 1:15:06It was giving, you know, I can't believe that she's falling for
- 1:15:09this guy. And that's what made me nervous
- 1:15:12for a second. I really hope we don't go the
- 1:15:14love triangle rabbit. I was like, who?
- 1:15:15OK, no, I think he's just being an overprotective brother.
- 1:15:18But that's those are the things that kind of got me concerned a
- 1:15:20little bit. I was like, what are we doing?
- 1:15:22But I think he really just didn't want her to like, make a
- 1:15:24bad decision. He's like, don't do anything
- 1:15:27stupid. He was really scared, but it was
- 1:15:29a lot. It was a lot showing up at the
- 1:15:31job in the morning that I was like, OK.
- 1:15:33I was like, oh, this is do you not have?
- 1:15:34Anything to do like I had, I'm just saying.
- 1:15:38Yeah, he. Had a couple moments where he
- 1:15:41was out of line but his relationship with the older
- 1:15:46sister Hesong was juicy. And.
- 1:15:50You know, they got like, they had like a little fake
- 1:15:52relationships issue that they had to work through because his
- 1:15:56mom is trying to put him on some blind dates.
- 1:15:58He doesn't want nothing of it. And so he declares that he's
- 1:16:02dating Hesong and she goes to a family dinner with his parents
- 1:16:08as an introduction. Yeah.
- 1:16:11Wow, that family's a piece of work.
- 1:16:12But the mom standing up and going yellow was the wrong
- 1:16:16choice because she wore a bright, like Canary yellow
- 1:16:20dress. I was like, Oh my God, it's.
- 1:16:25Like no wonder he never comes home.
- 1:16:26It's no wonder this man is like, I don't want nothing to do with
- 1:16:29my family. Yeah, but she starts to
- 1:16:33understand him. He starts to understand her.
- 1:16:35He's always the shoulder that she cries on whenever she has
- 1:16:38relationship issues. He's just there for her.
- 1:16:43The relationship that she had with a younger boy.
- 1:16:46Let's talk about that for a second.
- 1:16:48Oh yeah, not so bad for her. I feel horrible for her.
- 1:16:51First of all, she gets confronted at her place of work.
- 1:16:54She's a bank teller. Oh.
- 1:16:56My gosh, that was so bad. She gets confronted hair pulled
- 1:16:59and everything because she didn't know her boyfriend was
- 1:17:05married so she inadvertently was the other woman.
- 1:17:10And when that wife comes, she raised hell in that bank, was
- 1:17:15pulling her hair, was causing a scene.
- 1:17:18And of course you already know that all three siblings have a
- 1:17:21complex about cheating, which we should all have complexes about
- 1:17:27cheating, but they are personally victimized and she is
- 1:17:32sends her over the edge. She starts taking anxiety
- 1:17:35medication. She starts she basically goes on
- 1:17:38antidepressants. I think after that because she's
- 1:17:41struggling so bad. The younger guy, first of all,
- 1:17:45their relationship was never going to last, but it was kind
- 1:17:46of sweet. It was kind of sweet.
- 1:17:48I was buying in for a little bit.
- 1:17:49I was like, oh shit. So it's a triangle between the
- 1:17:52second elite sung June and this guy and the sister, his song.
- 1:17:57Yeah. What ends up happening is this
- 1:17:59guy, he meets her friends. I don't know if you remember
- 1:18:02this. Yeah, I remember OK.
- 1:18:05They asked him what do you like about her, which I think is slow
- 1:18:08pitch. It really is.
- 1:18:10What do you like about her? He says.
- 1:18:12She's basically shallow. I believe this guy was such
- 1:18:15trash. Yeah, so he gives her like a
- 1:18:18backhanded compliment. Yeah.
- 1:18:20It's strangely touching at that point, but I was like, the
- 1:18:24undertone of that wasn't so good, but he fixed it.
- 1:18:27Not at all in the moment. Later on, they're not on the
- 1:18:30same page. He makes like a couple
- 1:18:32Instagram, right? And she's not about it.
- 1:18:34She's kind of like, I don't understand.
- 1:18:36And it's very generational difference front and center.
- 1:18:40And then later in maybe episodes 10 or 11, she plucks up the
- 1:18:46courage to tell him, Hey, I don't really want to go to the
- 1:18:48theme park with you. Not because I don't like theme
- 1:18:50parks and not because I don't like you, but I've been
- 1:18:53struggling for months with the fallout of my public shaming.
- 1:18:57And I'm on medication. I don't want to be around other
- 1:19:00people in large crowds. I don't want to be in enclosed
- 1:19:03spaces. I'm struggling.
- 1:19:05And it was a huge deal for her to open up to this little boy
- 1:19:09about her situation, her mental well-being.
- 1:19:14He seems so sensitive in the moment and understanding of her.
- 1:19:18And she's so happy. She feels like very renewed in
- 1:19:21their relationship. I personally almost cried when
- 1:19:25she catches him outside on the phone and he's saying, oh, I
- 1:19:28need just like one more hour to wrap this up and then I'll go
- 1:19:30gaming with you guys. I'll meet you at the PC bong
- 1:19:33because she's sick but not really and talks about her
- 1:19:37needing medication. Girl, I can't even extreme to
- 1:19:41you how angry I was. Talk to me.
- 1:19:43I was angry and also like, about to cry because I was like, she
- 1:19:47it was such a big deal for her to open up about that.
- 1:19:50Like, her struggle, her struggle she's been having for a long
- 1:19:52time. And you're supposed to be her
- 1:19:55boyfriend and, like, love her through anything, and you're
- 1:19:57judging her. It was terrible.
- 1:20:00And other people deserve that. And she's so sweet and she's so
- 1:20:02sensitive. And I just hated that.
- 1:20:04Yeah. She had to witness that.
- 1:20:06So they break up, but not before he gives her a generational
- 1:20:10read. He tells her, oh, I see all of
- 1:20:13your other relationships ended. They fizzled out because you
- 1:20:17didn't want to do the work of actually reconciling, of
- 1:20:20actually fighting it out. You've never argued with
- 1:20:22somebody else. You just give up.
- 1:20:24And I was like, oh, and I knew that her relationship with the
- 1:20:29second of Lee Song June was going to work because she tells
- 1:20:33him later on they're fighting still.
- 1:20:35They're fighting her. And the second of Lee Song June
- 1:20:38are fighting. And she tells him, well, my ex,
- 1:20:42I broke up with him, but he said this XYZ and the other.
- 1:20:45And he's like, but that's not even true.
- 1:20:47And I was like, oh, he's on her side.
- 1:20:51Yes, he was. Just he's supporting her.
- 1:20:54He knew her. Yes, exactly.
- 1:20:56He sees her for who she is. Yeah.
- 1:20:58They when she gets proposed to at the end of the show after the
- 1:21:01time jump, I was like, I could be here 30 more minutes.
- 1:21:05No, literally, I loved them. I and I didn't expect to get as
- 1:21:09invested in them as I did. Yes, but I loved them.
- 1:21:12I think that's another thing the show did really well.
- 1:21:14Like I was equally invested in our main couple as I was.
- 1:21:17In there which is true. As well, Yeah.
- 1:21:20What were some of your favorite parts of the show when it came
- 1:21:24to moments between Tongjin and Wuju, The female lead and the
- 1:21:28male lead. OK, so I don't know if you
- 1:21:31remember, I think it was between episodes 5:00 and 6:00 and I
- 1:21:35think they were like at the office, the XI think the X had
- 1:21:39come into the office at night. Do you remember the scene?
- 1:21:42Yes. OK so background so I started
- 1:21:45the show kind of maybe like a week after I came out.
- 1:21:48So by the time I was watching it, I think 5 episodes were out.
- 1:21:51OK, so then I binged it one night when I tell you I was like
- 1:21:56like literally I couldn't breathe during the scene when
- 1:21:58like so the ex was in the office dungeons there dungeon as we
- 1:22:02know he's he's very gentle, he's very docile.
- 1:22:04The ex is like being annoying. The audacity on all of the like
- 1:22:10the Mistress but the X also the. X.
- 1:22:13We need to talk about the X. And then she had she was in a
- 1:22:16depression hole. She had to clean her depression
- 1:22:19apartment at some point. Tongjin is like you're sick.
- 1:22:22He says you're sick. He needs you.
- 1:22:24Need help. You're an alcoholic.
- 1:22:26Yeah. You need an alcoholic.
- 1:22:28Yes. It was like when you get you
- 1:22:30need to get better and when you get better, fine, we can go out
- 1:22:33and have drinks or whatever. Yeah, whatever.
- 1:22:35Tea, whatever you want. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:22:37I was like, that situation was bad, he clocked.
- 1:22:39But anyway, he did the scene that you're talking about.
- 1:22:43But and so obviously Dongjit is like in a tough spot and she and
- 1:22:47would you literally just like grabs his hand and they leave
- 1:22:49the office. I screamed like audibly
- 1:22:52screamed. I was like, this show is
- 1:22:54amazing. And so and that was the end of
- 1:22:56episode 5. That's and that's the first time
- 1:22:58they've ever had like a physical interaction.
- 1:23:00This is just a hand hold, a hand grab.
- 1:23:03So I'm like screaming it's a lot.
- 1:23:05So then it was a lot for that lot.
- 1:23:07So that we, so then we go into episode 6 and they're kind of
- 1:23:10like they're at the convenience store and they're like eating.
- 1:23:14And they were having this like super deep heart to heart.
- 1:23:18And she was basically saying like, you're not the type of
- 1:23:21person that like gives up, like you won't go down.
- 1:23:24And I just never forgot. That's a really good scene and
- 1:23:28they reference that a lot, references and like they still
- 1:23:30they replay that scene. Yes, a lot and she's like you
- 1:23:33won't go down and because he up until this point, it's just like
- 1:23:37he's he's honestly just like he walks through life in a daze
- 1:23:40like he even the way he walks, he can see that he's been beaten
- 1:23:43down by life. He's such a zombie.
- 1:23:45He's such a zombie, just like floating through life and she's
- 1:23:48like, you won't go down. Like basically you're telling
- 1:23:50him like you're stronger than you think you are.
- 1:23:51And the fact that this is she barely knows the guy, right?
- 1:23:54She barely knows. She's observed in him.
- 1:23:56This is like their first time really talking, but she was able
- 1:23:59to observe that and call that out in him.
- 1:24:01Beautiful scene. I love that scene so.
- 1:24:03Much. I love that scene too because he
- 1:24:04had told her this story just before she tells him.
- 1:24:06You won't go down. He tells a story about him
- 1:24:10trying to enter this provincial track race competition and they
- 1:24:14were giving out. If just for competing, just for
- 1:24:17participating, he would get like a 300,000 won scholarship.
- 1:24:21He goes, if I entered that competition, it was provincial
- 1:24:25and I was 3 seconds slower than the slowest runner.
- 1:24:28He was like, there was no chance I was going to win that even
- 1:24:30though just participating would get me a scholarship.
- 1:24:34He said those 3 seconds gave him anxiety.
- 1:24:36He had stomach aches, he was laid up with a headache and he
- 1:24:39quit before he even tried. He never even entered.
- 1:24:42And he says since birth I've always been weak willed.
- 1:24:46Like he really deeply understands.
- 1:24:48Himself. Yeah, he does.
- 1:24:51That's when she says, I know you, you're not.
- 1:24:53You're not going to go down. That's not going to take you
- 1:24:56out. Nothing's going to take you out.
- 1:24:58You might sway a little bit, but you're not going down.
- 1:25:00Yeah. And it was this like, moment of
- 1:25:03like, full confidence. And yeah, it it touches him
- 1:25:06deeply that she has faith in him.
- 1:25:10Yeah, and she sees him. For who he is.
- 1:25:14She doesn't know him, I don't know him, but she's able to
- 1:25:17really see who he is on the inside.
- 1:25:20That's probably like the most he's felt seen in a very long
- 1:25:23time. Talking about the way she
- 1:25:25speaks, she speaks very bluntly to everybody around her.
- 1:25:31And at first he's kind of like, I like that about you.
- 1:25:34In fact, he sort of makes, I don't think it's a joke, but
- 1:25:38it's almost like an ironic you speak.
- 1:25:40So he says she has a kind way of speaking, like pretty way of
- 1:25:45speaking. And she's like, no, I don't like
- 1:25:48you're not being serious. You don't actually like the way
- 1:25:51I speak because I'm constantly reading people for filth.
- 1:25:54Yeah. And he says that's he's, she's
- 1:25:58doing this to him too. Like the whole show as well.
- 1:26:00Yeah. And he says in Episode 5, does
- 1:26:04it feel good to just say whatever's on your mind?
- 1:26:07It may seem people hold themselves back because they're
- 1:26:09dumb, but if you say everything that's on your mind, you have to
- 1:26:12watch others get hurt by what you say.
- 1:26:14Some people find it harder than holding back, so they try hard
- 1:26:18not to say anything. And that's what I mean by this
- 1:26:20show is very empathetic. That's for empaths because he is
- 1:26:24so deeply feeling he's considering somebody else's
- 1:26:26feelings and doesn't want to hurt somebody else's feelings,
- 1:26:29even if he is correct and true and right to say whatever it is.
- 1:26:36And she doesn't care about that. She's like, just, I don't care.
- 1:26:40I'm going to say what I'm going to say.
- 1:26:42I think at first he was very entertained by her openness and
- 1:26:46candor. But as the show went on, he's
- 1:26:49like, I'm, I'm not sitting here and not saying anything because
- 1:26:53I'm dumb. Exactly.
- 1:26:55You know, I'm reading the room. So he kind of clocks her too
- 1:26:59with that because he's like, maybe you should consider other
- 1:27:01people's feelings more. And they learned from each
- 1:27:05other. Beautiful.
- 1:27:07Is there another scene that you love?
- 1:27:09Yeah, I love their kiss scene because it was so just speaking
- 1:27:14to Dongjin's gentleness. I don't know what it is about
- 1:27:17this scene, but like I'll never forget like when he was like
- 1:27:20holding her face and he was like caressing her face like with his
- 1:27:23thumb like and he was just like looking at her the.
- 1:27:25Form was impeccable. Oh my gosh.
- 1:27:27And he was just. And it's beautiful.
- 1:27:31It was beautiful. What is that?
- 1:27:35That's episode 12. So good and again, like we
- 1:27:39waited speaking to the school burn.
- 1:27:41It's like we waited till episode 12 but then.
- 1:27:45They kiss in his apartment which this was a whole like song and
- 1:27:48dance too because her brother starts staying with the male
- 1:27:53lead. Secretly, he like runs away from
- 1:27:55home and he starts staying with the male lead.
- 1:27:58And so when he leaves, he leaves all this stuff behind at the
- 1:28:00house. So there was always a question
- 1:28:03of, hey, can I come by and pick up my brother's stuff?
- 1:28:06It's so loaded like that question because then it's like,
- 1:28:09I got to go inside your house. I always loved that question.
- 1:28:15There was a point where she asked him and he says you don't
- 1:28:20have to do that anymore. Feeling people out.
- 1:28:22I mean, if you want to come, you can come anytime.
- 1:28:25I'll be waiting. I, I screamed at that.
- 1:28:29I screamed at that. Like I was.
- 1:28:33Like, but going back to she's finally in the house in episode
- 1:28:3912, they kiss, but then they they go full on have sex.
- 1:28:44Yeah, it's tasteful. It's just you don't see
- 1:28:47anything. But anyway, they do have sex in
- 1:28:48the house. And I was like, wow, this is a
- 1:28:51really grown show. It's so.
- 1:28:53Grown. There's something about it
- 1:28:55that's just grown. Yes, exactly.
- 1:28:58It was just very mature and peaceful and just the way it was
- 1:29:00done. I'm like wow, this is so
- 1:29:04beautiful, so beautiful. I also so the X so we touched on
- 1:29:09her. So the X basically like they
- 1:29:12literally live across the hall from each other like they're
- 1:29:15neighbors and she's an alcoholic.
- 1:29:18And I thought it was interesting when we found out that the mom
- 1:29:21was also basically trying to I guess scam her as well, like
- 1:29:25harassing her for money. Which?
- 1:29:28Was wild which stressed the X out a lot which is why she was
- 1:29:32acting crazy as well. But I'm just like, why didn't
- 1:29:35you just tell her that you're his mom was like harassing you
- 1:29:39Like I it was it was wild. And like, again, to the evil
- 1:29:43mom, I'm just like, what is wrong with this lady?
- 1:29:45But terrorizing everyone involved.
- 1:29:48But the ex I, yeah, well before I knew that she was being
- 1:29:52harassed as well. I mean, it doesn't excuse her
- 1:29:54behavior, but I was like, no wonder she's acting so unhinged.
- 1:29:57But. That mom was a huge reason why
- 1:30:01they broke up really. Or that she actually decided to
- 1:30:05go on some blind date and it worked out and she was dating
- 1:30:09this other guy for a year before they officially broke it off.
- 1:30:13Crazy. And the mom, I really think when
- 1:30:17she came back when talking about the ex, when the ex came back
- 1:30:20after being abroad and that other relationship not working
- 1:30:23out, she didn't get married. Yeah.
- 1:30:26I truly think it's what she said, she said.
- 1:30:29I came back looking for comfort and I thought he would take me
- 1:30:33back. And this whole thing about the
- 1:30:37mother, the mistress character begging for money and like,
- 1:30:42panhandling and constantly borrowing money from the ex
- 1:30:47would have been resolved had they gotten back together.
- 1:30:51Yeah. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:30:53So she was kind of like, it's his mom, I can't say no.
- 1:30:57I want to be on her good side, so on and so forth.
- 1:31:00She didn't have the backbone of Shimuju, who would never, I
- 1:31:06mean, never in a million years, even if it was no bad blood.
- 1:31:10Yeah, let that woman walk all over her and steal all this
- 1:31:13money from her. Exactly, exactly.
- 1:31:16It was wild. It was wild.
- 1:31:18I didn't love that they alluded to the fact that the CEO guy and
- 1:31:23her were like, gonna get together.
- 1:31:26I thought that was a very weird connection to make.
- 1:31:29I wouldn't have done that. But yeah, the tone and the way
- 1:31:32that they ended that guy was like, I'm bad for her.
- 1:31:37And I'm like, but Donjan's your best friend.
- 1:31:39No. Yeah.
- 1:31:39I was like, this isn't I? This isn't strange.
- 1:31:42Yeah. That's what are we doing here.
- 1:31:43Restrikes the mom should have been dead.
- 1:31:49Would you should have been the oldest sibling.
- 1:31:52What the hell is the Co CEO bestie doing with the
- 1:31:55ex-girlfriend? Like why?
- 1:31:57Like go get with somebody. Else no.
- 1:32:00What are you doing? I was like, what?
- 1:32:03I know there's after everything that she put him through, why
- 1:32:06would like that? And then you just why are you
- 1:32:10sleeping with your best friend's girl?
- 1:32:12Ex girl. It's strange.
- 1:32:13That's breaking a code. It is.
- 1:32:15It breaks a code. The bro code, the friend code I
- 1:32:19don't. Care all the codes, all the
- 1:32:20codes like. Don't do that.
- 1:32:22It's icky. I don't.
- 1:32:23I don't believe in that. Yeah, you just what?
- 1:32:27And then she cheated. But never mind you.
- 1:32:30You want to be with a cheater? Right, exactly.
- 1:32:33I was like, I did not understand that.
- 1:32:35I know we're talking in and out about like extending grace, but
- 1:32:38like the patterns of. Her wisdom, right?
- 1:32:42Like they're also wisdom. It's just like, why don't you?
- 1:32:44You don't think she's gonna cheat on you?
- 1:32:45Exactly. And also, this is your best
- 1:32:47friend's ex. That terror like literally like,
- 1:32:49caused one of the many reasons why he was so depressed.
- 1:32:52Also, that man was not smart. OK, the G Wagon situation, he
- 1:32:56was not smart. Just sell your car.
- 1:33:00That's why he was so pressed when Dongjin is like, I want to
- 1:33:02cash out, I want to leave the company, like just transfer my
- 1:33:07shares. And he was pressed because he
- 1:33:09didn't do any work at the company.
- 1:33:11He was just posting along. And now Dongjin is leaving.
- 1:33:15He has to do everything on his own and leave this the ship.
- 1:33:19No, he was he, he had to really step up there.
- 1:33:23He had to really step up. And mind you, his excuse for
- 1:33:26bringing in the X IT to work at the company was, oh, she has art
- 1:33:29expertise. Yeah.
- 1:33:31And we're going to do a function, a trade show revolving
- 1:33:35art. And so we need her input, her
- 1:33:38expertise. Do we?
- 1:33:40There was nobody else. There was nobody else like
- 1:33:44there. Was no one else there?
- 1:33:45Was no one else. But the ex that traumatized him?
- 1:33:48Mind you, I don't know what her work situation was, if she came
- 1:33:51from money or what. Because she wasn't working.
- 1:33:54I was on the. Impression that she had to come
- 1:33:56from money because I was a really nice apartment and she
- 1:33:58was abroad all that time so I feel like she just had money.
- 1:34:01So then she came back and got what she had an she had a job
- 1:34:04lined up. She went back to her old job.
- 1:34:06She was some sort of curator, some sort of museum position,
- 1:34:09and they were like, oh, she doesn't come all the time.
- 1:34:12Like you know what I'm saying? What was she doing?
- 1:34:17Nothing. She wasn't doing anything.
- 1:34:19It wasn't. Even like oh she's part time, oh
- 1:34:22she doesn't work here anymore. Oh no, they were like she she's
- 1:34:26not in all the time. I was like they hate her ass.
- 1:34:31She doesn't do any work. She does not work anyway.
- 1:34:36I love the moment when first of all there was another big op in
- 1:34:41this show and it was CEO Shin, the guy that was literally out
- 1:34:45to ruin their company purposely. His mission in life was to ruin
- 1:34:50their company and I and I got that.
- 1:34:52It's AK drama. I didn't mind him at all.
- 1:34:55He does swing at Wuju's head with a big rock.
- 1:35:00Yes. And she doesn't dodge him even
- 1:35:03though she could and get struck in the head 5 stitches.
- 1:35:07So I love that moment when our merely Tongjin runs to the
- 1:35:13hospital to see her. He starts squaring up with the
- 1:35:18CEO Shin, who's looking shell shocked in the waiting area.
- 1:35:22And I was like, you know, the bestie, the Co CEO should not
- 1:35:28have held him back. Let him, let him go, let him do
- 1:35:31what he needs. To do he's already in the
- 1:35:33hospital. If any damage is done he can
- 1:35:36just get patched up right then and there.
- 1:35:39Why are we blocking this man from laying hands on CEO Shin?
- 1:35:43Right? So I had and then second of all,
- 1:35:46I don't believe that the Co CEO bestie could hold him back.
- 1:35:51Yeah, I know. I don't think so either.
- 1:35:53No, no, not at all. I was like that man, 62 like he
- 1:35:57and you know, he looks solid. Yes, he's a solid, you know what
- 1:36:01I'm saying? It's not a lanky mouse.
- 1:36:03He's 62. Yeah, No, he's, he's, he's
- 1:36:06solid. He.
- 1:36:06Looked like a man, you know, which I don't.
- 1:36:10I don't mean to start blushing right now, but I appreciate
- 1:36:14that. Me too, I fell in love with him
- 1:36:16in the show. I was like, I'm watching every
- 1:36:18Kim Young Kwan show. I know I'm.
- 1:36:21I'm a fan, yeah. Anyway, so he goes in finally to
- 1:36:25see her and she's got 5 stitches.
- 1:36:27He starts stroking her face. He's so.
- 1:36:30Gentle. And she says she's sorry.
- 1:36:35And you know, she meant it when he, she said he, she wanted him
- 1:36:38to have a lead, a comfortable life.
- 1:36:40Yeah. And he's like, man, let's just
- 1:36:43have an ordinary conversation. I'm sick of being told I'm
- 1:36:46sorry. I'm sick of saying I'm sorry,
- 1:36:49like let's just rewind and talk about something mundane.
- 1:36:52And she goes, well, I'm hungry. So I love this interaction.
- 1:36:58It was very homey. Yeah.
- 1:37:00You know. Love it.
- 1:37:02And talking about siblings, the sibling relationship, it's when
- 1:37:06they go out to eat after her hospital stay, her little ER
- 1:37:10visit. She says that she's just an
- 1:37:14outright lie to her siblings about what happened to her face.
- 1:37:17And she's going to say, oh, that I fell.
- 1:37:19They won't believe it, but they'll accept her lie.
- 1:37:23And I was like, oh, where are we going with this?
- 1:37:25She says that they pretend not to notice issues that they're
- 1:37:29going through so that their sibling relationship is quite
- 1:37:32shallow. The quote is it became a habit
- 1:37:35at some point so we don't have deep conversations.
- 1:37:39And I was like. That's a lot.
- 1:37:44That's saying a lot about how they interact with each other
- 1:37:48and how they feel like they're doing each other.
- 1:37:51A kindness in letting them off, you know, not having the tough
- 1:37:57conversations, absolutely confronting each other, really
- 1:38:02being present in each other's lives.
- 1:38:04Yeah. And they're like, no, it's over
- 1:38:07the years. They just don't talk.
- 1:38:10Yeah. And I thought that was very
- 1:38:12powerful it. Really is it's it's she.
- 1:38:14Even, like, recognizes that and she's like, well, you know, we
- 1:38:16don't. We're not asking tough questions
- 1:38:19about each other. Yeah.
- 1:38:20We're not demanding truth. It sucks.
- 1:38:24Do you want to talk about, like, their reunion?
- 1:38:26Well, cats finally out of the bag at the end of episode 13.
- 1:38:29Yes, it's the whole thing of like the sister Hey Song sniffs
- 1:38:33out that there's tension between Wuju and Yunjin, the second male
- 1:38:38lead, and then the second male lead tells her the truth of who
- 1:38:41the CEO Tongjin is and what's the bad blood.
- 1:38:46Then the sister tells the rest of family.
- 1:38:47Wuju finally tells Tongjin about everything, and she does it in
- 1:38:52front of the house. He doesn't get mad at all.
- 1:38:55He says it must have been hard on her all by herself.
- 1:38:58And he's he's only sad and sorry about the entire situation
- 1:39:02because of of course his mother has ruined his life again.
- 1:39:06Exactly. Yeah.
- 1:39:07And he hugs her and it's just so hot.
- 1:39:10Awful because they can't be together.
- 1:39:12Yeah. She's like, sobbing, like
- 1:39:15through tears and tells him, you know, my family knows who you
- 1:39:19are. I was hoping to keep this from
- 1:39:21them and she said, I don't I don't think we can really see
- 1:39:24each other anymore. And they're hugging each other
- 1:39:28like the ship going down. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:39:31Like for dear life. And she let's go of him, loosens
- 1:39:36her grip on him, and then he let's go to.
- 1:39:38And that moment, it's just like that moment is so.
- 1:39:45Again, it speaks to the themes of like, forgiveness in the show
- 1:39:48when it's just like, man, that was a really beautiful scene.
- 1:39:52And also like his frustration and disappointment and his mom
- 1:39:56yet again. And she just cannot stop.
- 1:39:59Like she cannot stop ruining lives.
- 1:40:01Let's talk about the mom for one more 2nd and it's when she shows
- 1:40:05up back at his house. He's She's been kind of like in
- 1:40:07and out of Tong Jin's apartment in the last few episodes, but
- 1:40:09she comes back after he gets the will from his uncle.
- 1:40:15He calls him uncle in the show. It's really an ex stepdad
- 1:40:19because he was married to the mom at some point.
- 1:40:21I love the relationship. I love that relationship.
- 1:40:24As well. Sweet.
- 1:40:25Beautiful. So he comes home to his mom
- 1:40:27eating in his house. She was missing Mia.
- 1:40:30She had changed her number. He was trying to get a hold of
- 1:40:32her. He didn't know where she was.
- 1:40:33It was this whole freaking thing.
- 1:40:35He tells her he was thankful that he doesn't resemble her
- 1:40:39because when she, you know, started on her bullshit when he
- 1:40:43was younger, he says he spent hours looking in the mirror
- 1:40:48trying to see if there was anything of her in him.
- 1:40:50And he was relieved that, no, he was nothing like her and that he
- 1:40:55never called her mother even though he wanted to.
- 1:40:59But there's so much layers to that.
- 1:41:01I don't know. And then he tells her she goes.
- 1:41:04Everybody is like, unhappy. Basically.
- 1:41:07Everybody's like this. Everybody is like kind of sad
- 1:41:09all day long, and she's doing this, I guess, in defense of her
- 1:41:14actions. She's trying to say, well, you
- 1:41:17were kind of never going to have a great life because everyone's
- 1:41:19pretty shitty. She just can't take
- 1:41:21accountability. No.
- 1:41:22And what? He says.
- 1:41:24I'm telling you that I was unhappy.
- 1:41:27I'm telling you that I've never been happy.
- 1:41:32Such a sad. Scene.
- 1:41:33It was a horrible, sad scene and I loved every second of it
- 1:41:37because she really kind of gets it.
- 1:41:40After that, that's how your actions have impacted your son.
- 1:41:43Yes, and there's something to it also of like generational curses
- 1:41:49all around. Yep, in each family.
- 1:41:52Is there anything else you'd like to talk about?
- 1:41:53I think you want to talk about their reunion.
- 1:41:55Oh yeah. I just love the reunion scene
- 1:41:58because it's a, it's a year later, I believe, after they had
- 1:42:01that beautiful breakup scene that we talked about earlier.
- 1:42:04They reunited at the Little Brothers concert.
- 1:42:07Random side storyline Little brother has been trying to find
- 1:42:10his way the whole show. I I think he was in school,
- 1:42:12right? And then he dropped out.
- 1:42:13He was. Studying for like a civil
- 1:42:15servants because, yeah, civil servants, sorry, civil service
- 1:42:23exam, Yeah. And he have failed the first
- 1:42:26time by like just three points. And so he was back to studying
- 1:42:31and he quit that. He quit studying for this civil
- 1:42:34service exam, Yeah, and decides I'm gonna be a singer.
- 1:42:39And he sang beautifully. He can't be a singer.
- 1:42:43Yeah, yeah, that's not gonna happen.
- 1:42:45I know. But he's pursuing music now, and
- 1:42:47he's having a little showcase or whatever.
- 1:42:50Right? Right.
- 1:42:51He invited Dong Jin, you know, Of course, Wuju's coming as
- 1:42:54well. We just see, Oh my gosh, the way
- 1:42:57that they filmed it was beautiful because first of all,
- 1:43:00the whole show is in muted tone. The whole show is pretty much
- 1:43:03Gray, right? But in this scene, this, this
- 1:43:06final scene of the show that you can see that the sky is blue.
- 1:43:09We see like these colorful balloons like we, we finally see
- 1:43:12color. And so they're both at the
- 1:43:15concert and they see each other through the crowd and we just
- 1:43:18see them look at each other. And then the next scene is like
- 1:43:22basically they kind of break. They kind of like run into each
- 1:43:26other and like, they're like laughing and like joking with
- 1:43:29each other and the joy, the joy and the colors and all the
- 1:43:34things you could just see like all the burdens have been lifted
- 1:43:38and they can be together and be healthy and be happy.
- 1:43:42And because they've gone on their individual journeys and
- 1:43:46just to see them both smile, it was just beautiful.
- 1:43:49It was so beautiful. I it's also kind of one of those
- 1:43:52endings that kind of leave you, it's like up to interpretation,
- 1:43:56right? Because people interpreted that
- 1:43:57last scene in like different ways for sure.
- 1:44:00But it was really beautiful. Yes, I loved the cinematography
- 1:44:05change and the way that they met back up and it was giving.
- 1:44:11Healed, it was giving fresh start, It was giving.
- 1:44:15I'm ready to accept this relationship and to welcome you
- 1:44:19back. And you know, we're all
- 1:44:21forgiven. Water under the bridge and let's
- 1:44:25live life in color, yes? Let's live life in color, yes?
- 1:44:28That's what I was giving. And honestly, if you've seen my
- 1:44:31Mr. it was the same vibe, right? These people that look so morose
- 1:44:37throughout the whole show, so sort of destitute, emotionally
- 1:44:42destitute. The whole show, they are happy.
- 1:44:46Finally there's joy in their life.
- 1:44:50It's a beautiful little moment. It is up to interpretation in
- 1:44:54terms of did they get back together?
- 1:44:56You know, are they married with two kids?
- 1:44:59What's going on? You can leave that up to
- 1:45:01interpretation, but I do feel that they got back together and
- 1:45:04the family was OK with yes by now.
- 1:45:08Yes, by now they should be, yeah.
- 1:45:11So beautiful show, Naz. Is there anything else you'd
- 1:45:14like to add? I don't think so.
- 1:45:16Just if you haven't watched this show, like just said, it's
- 1:45:19underrated. I think more people need to
- 1:45:20watch this. It's so beautiful.
- 1:45:23Yeah. And so quiet and so healing.
- 1:45:26If you haven't watched it already, please do.
- 1:45:28It's so, so good. Naz, thank you so much for
