- 0:37Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:41Speaker 4: The post show portion at Gibson's was that was pretty cool.
- 0:45Speaker 5: If we were like the Beatles, people were still stopping,
- 0:48Speaker 5: Like as I was walking across the.
- 0:51Speaker 4: I love you so much. Man.
- 0:53Speaker 6: Oh, we listened to you all the time.
- 0:56Speaker 1: He did go to the X ray room after the game.
- 0:58Speaker 1: But I'm just saying where that's the same that up
- 1:00Speaker 1: for right? Yeah?
- 1:01Speaker 4: Say that put him on ir.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Yeah, this show, I mean the Patriots made history. I
- 1:07Speaker 1: mean they managed to take a six round quarterback and
- 1:09Speaker 1: he turned into the greatest of all time and they
- 1:11Speaker 1: took the first round quarterback and he should have been
- 1:13Speaker 1: in the sixth round.
- 1:13Speaker 4: You have a lot of tone today. I like it, Like,
- 1:16Speaker 4: I don't really know of one similarity.
- 1:18Speaker 5: I was gonna let that.
- 1:19Speaker 4: There's nothing there's nothing physically okay similar about here.
- 1:23Speaker 1: We go any of them.
- 1:25Speaker 7: You can't do the cadence.
- 1:26Speaker 4: You keep laughing during the cadence, you turned me. If
- 1:30Speaker 4: mackets trotted out there again, that's kind of an indication
- 1:33Speaker 4: that you're thanking.
- 1:33Speaker 1: For making a human sacrifice. Jesus uh.
- 1:36Speaker 2: This is Patriot's Unfiltered.
- 1:38Speaker 8: Presented by Toyota's official website. For deals, buy a Toyota
- 1:42Speaker 8: dot com.
- 1:45Speaker 1: In retrospect. That was pretty mean yesterday.
- 1:47Speaker 4: That's what I said in the middle of the show.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Dark Dark Place.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Yeah, that was definitely the meanest that you've ever been.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yeah, well, sorry, sharp tongue. I apologize. But anyway, it's
- 1:58Speaker 1: Wednesday here at let's stay him and we're gonna be
- 2:01Speaker 1: here for the next two hours. It's Deuce, it's Evan,
- 2:03Speaker 1: it's Paul, it's me, Matt Nabooth. Who knows who else
- 2:06Speaker 1: might show up talking Patriots heading into the by here.
- 2:11Speaker 1: You know, I'm sure the team during the bye does
- 2:13Speaker 1: a lot of self scouting.
- 2:15Speaker 6: You know, got to look at yourself. Yeah, look in
- 2:17Speaker 6: the mirror. First, we start pointing fingers for a.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Point back at you.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I mean, I think this is going to be a
- 2:22Speaker 1: particularly tough one for Bill Belichick to self scout this team. Uh,
- 2:29Speaker 1: you know, from internal stuff to just play on the field,
- 2:33Speaker 1: and there's a lot to.
- 2:35Speaker 7: Yeah, we got to practice. Evan's gonna go out to
- 2:37Speaker 7: practice here.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Maybe we'll see Uh, I got notheeling that. You see
- 2:40Speaker 5: nothing weird. Usually you self scout, you make corrections. I
- 2:46Speaker 5: don't really like, are we wasting time on that? I
- 2:49Speaker 5: don't know, Like I think that you could see changes
- 2:53Speaker 5: and maybe they'll work on those today. In terms of
- 2:56Speaker 5: you know, Bailey's appy as a starting quarterback.
- 3:00Speaker 4: I ever see enough to see that?
- 3:02Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I would be out of the you know,
- 3:05Speaker 5: yeah we could see the norm.
- 3:06Speaker 4: If you don't see it today, I.
- 3:08Speaker 5: Wouldn't say it would be out of the norm, because
- 3:09Speaker 5: if we only get stretching then we wouldn't see that.
- 3:13Speaker 5: But if we get that first period of team drills
- 3:16Speaker 5: or not team drills, excuse me, positional drills, then the
- 3:20Speaker 5: starting quarterback goes with the top five offensive linemen and
- 3:23Speaker 5: they go through drills together, so we would see that.
- 3:25Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, so.
- 3:27Speaker 5: There's something to look forward to later in practice. I
- 3:29Speaker 5: highly doubt we are going to see that. But in
- 3:31Speaker 5: theory we would see that.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no way, no way, I don't think so.
- 3:36Speaker 4: I don't even look at that.
- 3:37Speaker 7: I don't even don't even think you're going to look
- 3:39Speaker 7: at it.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah, Jack Jones got picked up by the Raiders. Perfect
- 3:44Speaker 1: did they not learn the lesson about Patriots cast off?
- 3:47Speaker 6: That is, Antonio Pearce has got a long connection to
- 3:49Speaker 6: Jack Jones. It was what I wrote, or I was
- 3:51Speaker 6: supposed to write Jack Jones's profile when he got drafted,
- 3:54Speaker 6: and I reached out to the Raiders to see if
- 3:56Speaker 6: Antonio would talk with me.
- 3:57Speaker 7: He wouldn't.
- 3:58Speaker 6: But so from that regard to makes But I think
- 4:00Speaker 6: everybody's like Jack Jones in Vegas.
- 4:02Speaker 7: Not good Bob. That's a little scary.
- 4:04Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, the the connection to Pierce makes it different.
- 4:08Speaker 4: But it's the most Raiders move ever. You know, someone
- 4:10Speaker 4: who gets arrested looking for a second chance. The Raiders
- 4:14Speaker 4: the home for the way we're lost souls, you know,
- 4:17Speaker 4: that's what they do. But he did coach him in
- 4:19Speaker 4: high school and in college, so okay, so I mean
- 4:24Speaker 4: that makes a little sense.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Yeah, all right.
- 4:26Speaker 4: And then but I saw someone on Twitter yesterday and
- 4:28Speaker 4: this is where like some of these things that drive
- 4:30Speaker 4: me crazy.
- 4:31Speaker 7: Algorithms at it again.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Someone someone says, though, the timing of this is interesting.
- 4:40Speaker 4: You know, since Josh McDaniels was fired and Antonio Pierce
- 4:44Speaker 4: took over. That's when around the time that Jack Jones
- 4:47Speaker 4: started acting out, and I went since he got here.
- 4:52Speaker 4: But it looked and I was like, is this like
- 4:54Speaker 4: a burner account from someone or is this like some
- 4:58Speaker 4: kind of you know, parody account. I don't know why
- 5:01Speaker 4: I couldn't come up with the word thank you, Mike
- 5:03Speaker 4: wor it's a very hard words. Is it a parody account?
- 5:06Speaker 4: Like now Jack Jack Jones has just recently started acting out.
- 5:11Speaker 1: The intimation there that he's trying to shoot his way
- 5:13Speaker 1: out of town.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Yeah, knowing that the Raiders would would pick him up
- 5:16Speaker 4: like that.
- 5:16Speaker 1: That was the.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Intimation on the tweet. If anyone's wondering, I'm.
- 5:24Speaker 5: Not sure if he knew what he was doing there
- 5:26Speaker 5: or not, but Fred always knows what he's doing.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Well.
- 5:30Speaker 6: It will test uh their cornerback depth and geez, I'm
- 5:33Speaker 6: blanking on the guy that they just brought in and
- 5:35Speaker 6: then you remember him off the top of your head.
- 5:36Speaker 6: I mean, maybe Alex Austin, So maybe he's gonna.
- 5:40Speaker 4: I mean, there were two guys that Mike Reese mentioned
- 5:42Speaker 4: from the practice squad that I guarantee you someone if
- 5:46Speaker 4: someone had said to you, Paul Perillo, you my friend,
- 5:51Speaker 4: will earn total consciousness one hundred million dollars if you
- 5:56Speaker 4: can tell me true or false that these two guys
- 5:59Speaker 4: are on the squad. However, if you're wrong, you oh,
- 6:03Speaker 4: what's a million? And I would you wouldn't take that
- 6:06Speaker 4: would not have taken. So that's how is he sure?
- 6:10Speaker 4: I was in Brian.
- 6:13Speaker 5: It goes two names to just tell people who were
- 6:16Speaker 5: talking about you know, I've.
- 6:17Speaker 4: Never heard those two names. Ever.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Let's go back to the Colts game. Who were the
- 6:20Speaker 1: cornerbacks in the in the Colts game?
- 6:22Speaker 7: Basically Sean Wade and Jonathan Jones.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Ryan, right, which.
- 6:26Speaker 5: Is what it will be moving forward?
- 6:28Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, Sean Wadell.
- 6:30Speaker 4: I think Jack Jones only played nine plays or something
- 6:32Speaker 4: like that.
- 6:32Speaker 5: Eighteen percent of the snaps.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Yeah, it was ten plays, ten plays.
- 6:36Speaker 6: Yeah, but that new guy might be active, maybe at
- 6:38Speaker 6: least just to fill that spot for Jack Jones.
- 6:40Speaker 5: Maybe and play on special teams a little bit. Yeah,
- 6:43Speaker 5: but yeah, Sean Wade I thought had one of his
- 6:45Speaker 5: better games as a Patriot. Maybe not saying much, but
- 6:48Speaker 5: he looks more and more every day like he belongs.
- 6:51Speaker 5: I think last year at times when you get out
- 6:53Speaker 5: on the field, it was like, oh boy, I remember
- 6:55Speaker 5: that Vikings game. He played one snap and gave up
- 6:58Speaker 5: like a twenty five year completion. Yeah, but now it
- 7:01Speaker 5: looks like at least he can carry you know, the
- 7:05Speaker 5: water a little bit, Like he doesn't look completely out
- 7:07Speaker 5: of place when he's out there. And he made a
- 7:09Speaker 5: nice play on that screen.
- 7:10Speaker 4: On the tear screen. Yeah, yeah, I thought he showed
- 7:13Speaker 4: some physicality at least.
- 7:14Speaker 7: Yeah, he's a great example.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Maybe that stretch right light that comes out of all
- 7:18Speaker 1: this is that maybe he's starting to learn how to
- 7:20Speaker 1: be an NFL player.
- 7:21Speaker 7: I don't know how bright it is right in time
- 7:23Speaker 7: to be a free agent, but is he is?
- 7:25Speaker 4: He a little bit?
- 7:28Speaker 6: But those are the kind of guys that that you
- 7:30Speaker 6: want to watch here down the stretch and just let's
- 7:31Speaker 6: find out with Sean Wade. I don't want to go,
- 7:33Speaker 6: you know, even like I don't know Josh Bled so
- 7:35Speaker 6: probably hard for him to get up from the practice squad,
- 7:37Speaker 6: but you know, still these guys that have just been
- 7:39Speaker 6: kind of hanging around, like, now's the chance to get
- 7:41Speaker 6: them some snaps see how they look. And I'd say
- 7:44Speaker 6: the same thing on the offense too. I mean, they
- 7:45Speaker 6: don't have a lot to go to, especially like along
- 7:47Speaker 6: the line or necessarily a tight end, but continue trying
- 7:50Speaker 6: to get Booty in there and Thornton and you know,
- 7:53Speaker 6: I know it's painful, but what else, what else you
- 7:56Speaker 6: got to do right now?
- 7:56Speaker 5: I think Sean Wade is an interesting one because they
- 7:59Speaker 5: they've looked for that rotational outside corner, not a guy
- 8:03Speaker 5: that's gonna play every snap for you necessarily, but the
- 8:06Speaker 5: Jason mccordy.
- 8:07Speaker 7: Yeah right.
- 8:08Speaker 5: They haven't been able to find that player since Jason mccordy,
- 8:11Speaker 5: like a consistent third outside cornerback. So maybe when you
- 8:14Speaker 5: go into next season, you have Jonathan Jones, you have
- 8:17Speaker 5: Christian Gonzales hopefully back at one hundred percent, and Sean
- 8:20Speaker 5: Wade can prove that he can be the third guy
- 8:22Speaker 5: in that rotation, and now you have some depth there
- 8:24Speaker 5: that you didn't necessarily have before. So I don't know,
- 8:28Speaker 5: I mean, it's it's interesting, like they couldn't stop a
- 8:30Speaker 5: perimeter screen to save their life, and he finally did
- 8:33Speaker 5: so give him props for that.
- 8:34Speaker 7: I guess how would you have address the slot corner
- 8:37Speaker 7: position right now?
- 8:38Speaker 6: Give him what they you know with Marcus Jones where
- 8:40Speaker 6: he is hurt. You know, Miles Bryant's going to be
- 8:42Speaker 6: a free agent.
- 8:43Speaker 7: Would you would you guys make that a priority.
- 8:45Speaker 6: It's just been something I've been kind of kicking around
- 8:46Speaker 6: a little bit thinking about, like is that a.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Position you need to address? And and I like the
- 8:50Speaker 4: way evn't just talked about that depth at corner. This
- 8:52Speaker 4: is why you know Gonzale A lot of people would
- 8:55Speaker 4: sort of taken aback by Gonzales and I was like,
- 8:57Speaker 4: they do not have any depth back there at all,
- 9:00Speaker 4: And I think the same would be be true of
- 9:03Speaker 4: the slot position. I haven't seen Marcus Jones as a
- 9:07Speaker 4: regular cover guy yet. I haven't seen him prove himself
- 9:11Speaker 4: now as a punt returner, as a player on the team. Yes,
- 9:14Speaker 4: established even offensively last year, and I think that they
- 9:18Speaker 4: may have had some designs on doing some of those
- 9:20Speaker 4: things this year too. So he's you know, he's he's
- 9:24Speaker 4: got a role on the team. I'm not sure how
- 9:26Speaker 4: much you can rely on him as a slot corner
- 9:28Speaker 4: right now.
- 9:28Speaker 6: It feels like at best he's that he's like that
- 9:30Speaker 6: second slot. So you know, it's like, all right, they're
- 9:32Speaker 6: going spread right now, they're going five wide. This is
- 9:34Speaker 6: a Marcus Jones kind of you know, get him on
- 9:37Speaker 6: there against the little slot corner.
- 9:38Speaker 4: He can, But they just use so many defensive backs interchangeably,
- 9:42Speaker 4: I'm not exactly sure like who they would even get.
- 9:44Speaker 4: Would they consider Miles Bryant right now the slot corner?
- 9:47Speaker 1: I would.
- 9:47Speaker 5: I would say that they would consider him the star
- 9:49Speaker 5: which there and there slot. Yeah, I think that they
- 9:54Speaker 5: they should probably bring back Myles Bryant. And I know
- 9:57Speaker 5: the fans are going to roll their eyes and scream
- 9:59Speaker 5: and yell for some reason. He's like a lightning rod
- 10:02Speaker 5: that he's the worst player in the history of the
- 10:04Speaker 5: NFL to some people. I think he's had a really
- 10:07Speaker 5: solid season. I mean, there's certain matchups that he's Isaiah
- 10:10Speaker 5: McKenzie did it again against him on Sunday, Like, there's
- 10:12Speaker 5: certain matchups he just doesn't have the speed to hang
- 10:15Speaker 5: with guys that are those track guys like Isaiah McKenzie.
- 10:18Speaker 5: But he plays a role, he plays it pretty well.
- 10:21Speaker 5: He's a good situational player in terms of awareness and
- 10:24Speaker 5: things like that, good in zone plays, a little bit
- 10:26Speaker 5: of safety. Yeah, I mean, I think he's what you
- 10:30Speaker 5: look for in that spot is somebody that can play
- 10:33Speaker 5: a little bit physically, has a smart you know IQ
- 10:36Speaker 5: that's a very very high IQ position in their defense,
- 10:40Speaker 5: in any defense.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Really.
- 10:41Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm with you on him and Van Jennings too, Like,
- 10:43Speaker 6: I mean, you know, it's not going to move the needle,
- 10:44Speaker 6: but I think it's the kind of guy you need,
- 10:46Speaker 6: is a depth, you know piece.
- 10:48Speaker 7: And I still think.
- 10:49Speaker 6: Pass rush has got to be a priority this offseason,
- 10:51Speaker 6: you know, just you got to have some death behind
- 10:52Speaker 6: you on You got to have somebody who isn't like
- 10:54Speaker 6: ouch and needs it to be perfect for him to
- 10:57Speaker 6: get to the quarterback. You need guys who can generate
- 10:59Speaker 6: pressure on early downs by going through guys, by going
- 11:02Speaker 6: around guys. I think that's the biggest item right now,
- 11:04Speaker 6: that that's just devoid on this deepening the front.
- 11:06Speaker 9: J C.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Jackson's days are numbered.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think he'll be back next year.
- 11:11Speaker 6: That's when I mean to come back this year though,
- 11:13Speaker 6: you think I'm not sure he'll be back, I don't know.
- 11:15Speaker 4: I don't mean.
- 11:16Speaker 6: Bill seemed to be like, yeah, like that was kind
- 11:18Speaker 6: of how we answered it when they said do you
- 11:20Speaker 6: expect him back?
- 11:20Speaker 4: Yeah? I just wonder And we talked about this a
- 11:23Speaker 4: little bit with Trent Brown with the personal reasons, and
- 11:25Speaker 4: I don't like delving into the personal reasons because you
- 11:28Speaker 4: have no idea what they are, you know, especially in
- 11:30Speaker 4: this day and age of you know, increased awareness around
- 11:33Speaker 4: mental health, right, Is that what we're dealing with jay
- 11:36Speaker 4: Z Jackson too. We talked about that with Brown, but
- 11:38Speaker 4: not really with Jackson because everybody saw the report about
- 11:41Speaker 4: him missing the hotel and the curfew and all that stuff.
- 11:46Speaker 4: I don't know exactly what it is, but maybe it's
- 11:48Speaker 4: something he's working through mentally, you know, and he's got
- 11:51Speaker 4: to find a way to get through that. And maybe
- 11:53Speaker 4: you could still have him back next year, but I
- 11:56Speaker 4: would I think that they should move on.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I just wonder, Like, I don't know, it's Gonzales around
- 12:02Speaker 1: the team right now. Yeah, so influence he's a rookie, Like,
- 12:07Speaker 1: do we we probably want to surround him with positive influences.
- 12:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I think that with I mean, Paul's
- 12:14Speaker 6: been talking about it NonStop. I mean, even you know,
- 12:16Speaker 6: when we were selling ourselves on Trent Brown, he was,
- 12:19Speaker 6: you know, continuing to tell say even what he gives
- 12:22Speaker 6: you positive, there's it's gonna come at a price.
- 12:24Speaker 7: And I just I think that's been proven.
- 12:26Speaker 6: And and you know, biggest thought going into the off
- 12:27Speaker 6: season is he got to you got a clean house
- 12:30Speaker 6: of the guys that are not on board, and it's
- 12:33Speaker 6: the Sean Wades of the world who's been waiting for
- 12:35Speaker 6: a chance, and you know, like he wants to play.
- 12:38Speaker 6: I'd rather lose with that guy than get the two
- 12:41Speaker 6: performances or three performances a.
- 12:43Speaker 4: Year that are great.
- 12:44Speaker 6: But we also have to deal, well, he's got some personals,
- 12:46Speaker 6: he's gonna play for a couple of weeks, or you know, oh,
- 12:48Speaker 6: we're not sure what's going on. He's on a practice.
- 12:50Speaker 6: Oh we got a new contract, you know, like all
- 12:52Speaker 6: those things that are going on. I mean, Paul I,
- 12:54Speaker 6: I you know, I defer to you on on on
- 12:56Speaker 6: how you've laid it out and how you've been all
- 12:58Speaker 6: over it.
- 12:58Speaker 4: I just I think the team relying on unrelying too.
- 13:00Speaker 6: Far down that road with too many guys, which is
- 13:03Speaker 6: strange because I think the thing we thought with Bill
- 13:06Speaker 6: as of late was I think the cut out that
- 13:08Speaker 6: he just wants to play employee players, he wants to
- 13:11Speaker 6: work with and yet which this.
- 13:13Speaker 4: Was a stark contrast to the recent try I don't
- 13:15Speaker 4: get it.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And we talked about it, you know, when Dante said
- 13:18Speaker 1: he knew that this team could do it when they
- 13:20Speaker 1: started self policing, when there were locker room cops. I'm
- 13:25Speaker 1: not sure there are a lots.
- 13:27Speaker 4: So now that's interesting, And I want to bring up
- 13:29Speaker 4: something that you guys got out of the locker room
- 13:30Speaker 4: yesterday from Tetrich Wise. I found that really interesting that
- 13:36Speaker 4: he was as defensive of Jack Jones as he was,
- 13:38Speaker 4: and I didn't look at it as a good sign.
- 13:40Speaker 4: By the way, if you guys can't tell by the tone.
- 13:42Speaker 6: Well, he also, you know, said he was surprised about
- 13:45Speaker 6: the He said he was hurt. Yeah, I mean, oh,
- 13:49Speaker 6: he was hurt about him being late being okay, because
- 13:52Speaker 6: that's that's the way I read it.
- 13:54Speaker 4: But he wanted to make sure I got the right context.
- 13:55Speaker 6: I don't know for sure, because we had some conversations
- 13:58Speaker 6: in the aftermath of him kind of being like, I
- 14:00Speaker 6: didn't you know, somebody's like, you know, being late to
- 14:02Speaker 6: meeting and stuff, and he's like, I didn't I didn't
- 14:03Speaker 6: know that, you know, So I don't know.
- 14:05Speaker 4: It's just like he didn't know. He just thought he
- 14:07Speaker 4: got released out of nowhere.
- 14:08Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, of course, did he really not know?
- 14:10Speaker 6: I mean, it's just it's a hard it's a hard
- 14:12Speaker 6: position to be put in as a player right there,
- 14:14Speaker 6: because I'm sure he's got a relationship with Jack Jones.
- 14:16Speaker 6: But at the same time, you know, look, guy's been
- 14:19Speaker 6: doing his own thing for a few weeks now, and
- 14:21Speaker 6: it's just how many strikes is he gonna get?
- 14:23Speaker 1: Yeah, you would think after all the team did for him, yeah,
- 14:27Speaker 1: to get up helping me get out of that jam. Yeah,
- 14:29Speaker 1: like he'd be a little bit grateful and like, Okay,
- 14:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna play ball. I'm gonna follow the rules, you know.
- 14:35Speaker 1: But it's weird how.
- 14:36Speaker 6: Things go when you're a two win football team and
- 14:38Speaker 6: guys really start to check out, and it's you know,
- 14:41Speaker 6: and part of me is like, this is not a
- 14:42Speaker 6: good thing for you right now. As bad as the
- 14:44Speaker 6: team is setting a bad example now, is not gonna
- 14:47Speaker 6: help you get somewhere else. I mean, I guess in
- 14:49Speaker 6: this case it did, but I just think we all
- 14:51Speaker 6: expect Jack Jones is probably gonna have similar problems in
- 14:54Speaker 6: the Raiders, and.
- 14:55Speaker 7: It's just a question of how long are they going
- 14:56Speaker 7: to turn a blind eye to it?
- 14:57Speaker 4: Right well, and the other the other part of Jack
- 14:59Speaker 4: Jones that I don't think has gotten enough attention over
- 15:01Speaker 4: the last two days is that you can sort of,
- 15:07Speaker 4: you know, work with a guy who's not always on
- 15:10Speaker 4: board with what you need him to do if he's
- 15:12Speaker 4: playing well. And I don't think people talking about how
- 15:14Speaker 4: he's played since the first I don't know, handful of
- 15:17Speaker 4: games of his career. You know, he had to pick
- 15:20Speaker 4: the pick six against Green Bay and then later in
- 15:22Speaker 4: that same game forced a fumble with a pretty good play,
- 15:26Speaker 4: right I thought. I thought, by far the best play
- 15:30Speaker 4: he made was the one against Detroit. Yeah, when he
- 15:32Speaker 4: when he picked off the pass on kind of the
- 15:34Speaker 4: wheel route to Hockinson down the sideline. Really nice play,
- 15:38Speaker 4: kind of reminiscent of Gonzalez's play against Miami where he
- 15:42Speaker 4: kind of came over and and made a nice kind
- 15:45Speaker 4: of free safety kind of play. Really good balls, you know,
- 15:49Speaker 4: really yeah, really good ball skills on that play. Then
- 15:53Speaker 4: he kind of went downhill and I don't think people
- 15:55Speaker 4: have talked about it, because that's what happens around here.
- 15:58Speaker 4: If you flash immediately on the positive, that's what you are.
- 16:01Speaker 4: And no one looks at any of the warts after that.
- 16:04Speaker 5: No one looked at the warts, even when it was
- 16:06Speaker 5: like he busted a handful of coverage.
- 16:09Speaker 4: I don't think he played in the Green Bay game.
- 16:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree, And and Rogers didn't. The bald just
- 16:13Speaker 5: didn't find it, like Rogers just didn't find the open receiver.
- 16:16Speaker 4: He found him in overtime and it was like.
- 16:18Speaker 5: Once a week. I was like, oh, here's the once
- 16:20Speaker 5: a week wide open coverage bust by Jack Jones. I
- 16:23Speaker 5: couldn't agree more with you, Paul. I really just feel
- 16:26Speaker 5: like that was the final straw. Well, not anything that
- 16:29Speaker 5: happened in Germany or any of the tweets, which I think,
- 16:32Speaker 5: you know it would behoove him to get off of Twitter, yep,
- 16:35Speaker 5: But none of that stuff, Like, really, I think was
- 16:37Speaker 5: the final straw. He just he hasn't been good. He
- 16:40Speaker 5: hasn't been any Washington, and on a lesser extent, this
- 16:46Speaker 5: indie game. He only played ten plays in the Indie game.
- 16:48Speaker 5: I remember two specific ones that he was the closest
- 16:50Speaker 5: guy in coverage. Now you want to tell me he wasn't,
- 16:53Speaker 5: you know, I'll defer to Evan. Maybe it wasn't his.
- 16:55Speaker 4: Fault, but he was close enough to the guy twice
- 16:58Speaker 4: in a handful of snaps and didn't play much after
- 17:01Speaker 4: that three three games in a row. I think that
- 17:04Speaker 4: was as much to do with anything like that. You're
- 17:07Speaker 4: gonna be a problem, and when I don't play you,
- 17:10Speaker 4: you're gonna pout on the bench and be disengaged and
- 17:12Speaker 4: have a towel on your head. Now I gotta get
- 17:15Speaker 4: rid of you because you're not playing well.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean the Miami game, it's his fault that
- 17:20Speaker 5: that coverage was busted to lose the game, like he won. Yeah,
- 17:24Speaker 5: they literally lost the game. So I just I really
- 17:27Speaker 5: feel like there, Paul, You're so right that people had
- 17:30Speaker 5: this feeling of Jack Jones being this great player, and
- 17:35Speaker 5: we saw it a little bit in the spring, Like,
- 17:36Speaker 5: I'll give him credit before the gun charges.
- 17:38Speaker 4: He's without Town, without Town.
- 17:41Speaker 5: A decent spring. But as soon as the gun charges
- 17:45Speaker 5: thing happened. And then he comes back for training camp
- 17:48Speaker 5: and he was not very good in training camp either,
- 17:50Speaker 5: and then the last preseason game against Tennessee was a
- 17:52Speaker 5: disaster for him. So I mean, granted, like all the
- 17:55Speaker 5: off field stuff I'm sure is bogging him down to
- 17:58Speaker 5: an extent, but I I just I never really saw
- 18:02Speaker 5: Jack Jones being consistent enough to be like a starting
- 18:05Speaker 5: outside corner in the league. Like he had those flashes,
- 18:08Speaker 5: but he was gonna have a long way to go
- 18:11Speaker 5: before he was a guy that you could rely on
- 18:13Speaker 5: to play seventy seventy five snaps a game.
- 18:16Speaker 4: You remember when we used to have those conversations, it was, Yeah,
- 18:18Speaker 4: ideally if you could get that jump and have Gonzales
- 18:21Speaker 4: be a guy that you could plug in day one
- 18:23Speaker 4: and have Jack Jones on the outside, move here, and
- 18:26Speaker 4: now Jonathan Jones is in the slot, you know, and
- 18:29Speaker 4: now you've got everybody where there's supposed to be the
- 18:31Speaker 4: whole trickle down thing. Like that's what when you talked
- 18:35Speaker 4: about Mike, Anthony Jennings and Miles Bryant, you know, like
- 18:38Speaker 4: you'd probably like to have those guys. I would agree
- 18:40Speaker 4: in a vacuum. I think that they're like hardworking players
- 18:44Speaker 4: that are in your system. I'd rather continue working with
- 18:47Speaker 4: guys that are in my system haven't been a problem
- 18:50Speaker 4: and they play hard. But the problem is now those
- 18:55Speaker 4: used to be the guys around the margins that you retained,
- 18:58Speaker 4: you know, for layers of depth, not good enough to
- 19:01Speaker 4: be front line guys that are like, we got to
- 19:03Speaker 4: get these guys back because we got to have him
- 19:05Speaker 4: as our lead slot corner, you know, in the star spot. Yeah,
- 19:09Speaker 4: and we got to have Anthony Jennings setting the edge
- 19:11Speaker 4: every year because I don't think they're necessarily good enough
- 19:14Speaker 4: players for that.
- 19:15Speaker 5: But I agree with you guys, yes, I mean Jennings
- 19:20Speaker 5: is one of the worst pass rushers on a person
- 19:23Speaker 5: app basis.
- 19:25Speaker 4: In the summary he looks like a d right. So
- 19:27Speaker 4: he shows you the difference between preseason and regular season
- 19:30Speaker 4: past rush win rate.
- 19:31Speaker 5: He is one hundred and second out of one hundred
- 19:33Speaker 5: and thirteen guys in past rush win rate. Now he
- 19:37Speaker 5: does rank very very high and stuffs against the riscal player.
- 19:40Speaker 5: He's a really good run defender. But if you could
- 19:43Speaker 5: combine Jennings and josh U into one player, now now
- 19:47Speaker 5: you have a hell.
- 19:48Speaker 4: Of a player.
- 19:48Speaker 5: But they have warts individually.
- 19:53Speaker 4: That was when they got drafted in the draft show
- 19:55Speaker 4: Mike and I had this whole epiphany.
- 19:57Speaker 5: Well, there you go.
- 19:57Speaker 6: You I just think this is all part of what
- 20:02Speaker 6: this team's gonna have to do, which is take inventory
- 20:04Speaker 6: of there's.
- 20:06Speaker 7: A lot of holes to fill.
- 20:07Speaker 4: There's a lot you know of varying levels.
- 20:09Speaker 6: There's you know, immediate needs like finding tackles that can play,
- 20:12Speaker 6: finding tight ends, like you just you're they're gonna have
- 20:14Speaker 6: to go out and sign those. But you know, it's
- 20:16Speaker 6: the Miles Bryant, He's gonna not be that high in demand.
- 20:20Speaker 6: He's a guy that we've you know, contributed to. So
- 20:22Speaker 6: it's like, do we want to go draft a third
- 20:25Speaker 6: round slot corner and try or do we just want
- 20:26Speaker 6: to you know, yes, Miles Bryant isn't quite it, but
- 20:29Speaker 6: maybe we can still draft that third or fourth round
- 20:31Speaker 6: slot corner and try to let him develop and maybe
- 20:33Speaker 6: he surpasses that, you know.
- 20:35Speaker 4: That might be a guy you can sign.
- 20:36Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I think I think you just have
- 20:40Speaker 5: to roll with, like, do you have to hope that
- 20:43Speaker 5: Miles Bryan and Marcus Jones give you enough out of
- 20:47Speaker 5: those two guys, because if you start throwing high end
- 20:50Speaker 5: resources at slot.
- 20:51Speaker 4: Car, yeah, I don't want to know, you know, And
- 20:54Speaker 4: that's what.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Whether it's money or it's a top one hundred pick
- 20:57Speaker 5: or whatever. They they don't have the luxury to be like, oh,
- 21:00Speaker 5: we're gonna take this slot corner in the third round
- 21:02Speaker 5: and leave tackles and receivers and other players on the board.
- 21:05Speaker 6: It's just, you know, how do you divvy it up?
- 21:07Speaker 6: How do you prioritize what they need? And you know,
- 21:09Speaker 6: what's the quickest route out of the basement? You know,
- 21:12Speaker 6: I mean, I think we would all generally agree that
- 21:14Speaker 6: the offense has to be a major focus, but you know,
- 21:18Speaker 6: you can't forget about the defense and what happened this
- 21:20Speaker 6: year when they had some key injuries and it's been
- 21:21Speaker 6: a tough year for you lost mccordy, then you lost
- 21:25Speaker 6: Judon and Gonzalez. You've had Bentley struggling, Jonathan Jones has
- 21:28Speaker 6: been battling something all year. So I mean basically every
- 21:31Speaker 6: top defender that they've had from the last two years
- 21:34Speaker 6: is either out or struggling with something right now.
- 21:36Speaker 4: So they got to rebuild their depth too.
- 21:38Speaker 1: What do you think the messages from Bill, you know,
- 21:42Speaker 1: going into you know, taking I think it's been about
- 21:46Speaker 1: what you know, do you think his message will come
- 21:49Speaker 1: not through words but through playtime? Like going forward you know.
- 21:54Speaker 7: Well, you know what, I went back to fred.
- 21:55Speaker 6: I remember in that nine documentary he was talking to
- 21:58Speaker 6: the team before their first preseason game and something along
- 22:02Speaker 6: those lines of like, you know, this is a preseason game,
- 22:05Speaker 6: but it means something to me, It means something to you.
- 22:07Speaker 6: You know, you're putting your name on what kind of
- 22:10Speaker 6: what performance you're gonna put out there, what kind of
- 22:12Speaker 6: effort you're gonna put out there. So, because that was
- 22:14Speaker 6: the thing that popped into my mind bad as the.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Last few years of ben other than two thousand, is
- 22:19Speaker 1: this the first time that at the bye they're pretty
- 22:22Speaker 1: much out of it?
- 22:22Speaker 4: Yeah, And I believe and I'm not positive on this,
- 22:28Speaker 4: but I believe this. They will play a game. A
- 22:30Speaker 4: game this regular season will be the first time that
- 22:33Speaker 4: they ever take the field excluding the COVID year. COVID
- 22:38Speaker 4: year is the only year having been eliminated. Like last year,
- 22:44Speaker 4: they could have won and made the playoffs. You know,
- 22:47Speaker 4: they obviously made the playoffs in twenty one to beat
- 22:50Speaker 4: back in eight Jets. Back in eight, they had a
- 22:52Speaker 4: chance to beat Buffalo, and if things went right in
- 22:54Speaker 4: the Miami Jets game, they could have made the playoffs.
- 22:56Speaker 4: Same and oh, two, like this goes all the way
- 22:58Speaker 4: back to two thousand and since they played a game
- 23:01Speaker 4: that had had no bearing on the standing, right, So
- 23:04Speaker 4: that's that this is uncharted.
- 23:06Speaker 1: That becomes a unique challenge for any head coach is
- 23:09Speaker 1: how do I keep players engaged when there's really nothing
- 23:13Speaker 1: to play for, you know, in terms of standing. So
- 23:17Speaker 1: then you have to appeal to their own pride and
- 23:19Speaker 1: their own professionalists.
- 23:21Speaker 5: And then their contract and money.
- 23:23Speaker 1: I think everything you do is on tape, and whether
- 23:27Speaker 1: I'm looking at it or your next employer is looking
- 23:29Speaker 1: at it, you need to have a good tape.
- 23:33Speaker 4: And you know, we Mike and I have been talking
- 23:35Speaker 4: a lot. We've used a lot of our debates on
- 23:37Speaker 4: the TV show with a variation of you know, let's
- 23:40Speaker 4: get these guys some playing time, right, And I think
- 23:43Speaker 4: Bill makes a good point. He's been asked about this.
- 23:45Speaker 4: I know we asked them about it for All Access too,
- 23:47Speaker 4: so I you know, I knew that this was something
- 23:49Speaker 4: that you know, on the radar. I think he mentioned
- 23:52Speaker 4: it yesterday, Like it's it's one thing to just say, well,
- 23:55Speaker 4: you got to play Keon White, you got to play
- 23:57Speaker 4: Marty Marpu, you know, you got to play you know
- 24:00Speaker 4: Sam Roberts, so you don't get him some snaps, you know, figure, well,
- 24:04Speaker 4: if they don't earn them, right, you can't just put
- 24:06Speaker 4: guys out there.
- 24:08Speaker 1: And Bill kind of said that last week about practice,
- 24:11Speaker 1: like you know, our Sunday is determined.
- 24:15Speaker 4: By and that's what made the Booty thing frustrated. And he
- 24:17Speaker 4: kept telling us how well he was practicing. We still
- 24:19Speaker 4: weren't getting the sand.
- 24:21Speaker 1: But when you know, when he says it was his
- 24:23Speaker 1: best week, that could be relative every other, I mean,
- 24:26Speaker 1: up on time all. Yeah, but I think that he's,
- 24:31Speaker 1: you know, for a guy like Booty, he's trying to
- 24:33Speaker 1: give him any type of incentive to keep it up.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Come on.
- 24:36Speaker 4: And I do think you'll see I think you'll see
- 24:39Speaker 4: that more and more with some of these, uh, you know,
- 24:41Speaker 4: even like Sean Wade. I think you're seeing it with him.
- 24:44Speaker 4: You know, I was worried that you just sort of
- 24:48Speaker 4: plug in these same guys and and just roll with it,
- 24:51Speaker 4: Like I want to see some of these different faces
- 24:54Speaker 4: and see what you know. And that wouldn't be the
- 24:57Speaker 4: poet like you brought up Josh Bledze. You know, I
- 25:01Speaker 4: wouldn't be you know, stunned to see that even like again,
- 25:05Speaker 4: Adrian Phillips and Jalen Mills, I do not believe will
- 25:08Speaker 4: be part of this team next year. So you gotta
- 25:11Speaker 4: find your depth somewhere.
- 25:12Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I just love to see one of these
- 25:16Speaker 6: receive other receivers than Douglas do something. I mean, how
- 25:20Speaker 6: many times can you roll out Jalen Rieger and Taekwon
- 25:22Speaker 6: Thornton and Kaishan Booty and they have one catch between
- 25:26Speaker 6: the three of them. You know, I don't even really
- 25:27Speaker 6: throw juju in that kind of think that ship is
- 25:29Speaker 6: sales reps.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Thornton get in the Colts game.
- 25:32Speaker 7: Zero zero point zero.
- 25:34Speaker 4: Like, I don't think that that makes any sense to me.
- 25:37Speaker 1: I was gonna say, do you find that kind of crazy?
- 25:39Speaker 4: Now? Now listen, But the way the game unfolded, they
- 25:43Speaker 4: ran the ball almost exclusively. It was a rare NFL
- 25:46Speaker 4: game where it was like sixty forty run pass under
- 25:49Speaker 4: three hours. Like that was another one of the lone
- 25:54Speaker 4: bright spots. Get the irony of another one of the
- 25:58Speaker 4: lone bright spots. Yeah, see what you did there? Wordsmith,
- 26:02Speaker 4: words very hard, very hard. But yeah, two forty four, yeah, Freddie,
- 26:07Speaker 4: we were home for red zone second half of the
- 26:09Speaker 4: one o'clock. I can tell you Fred, we could do
- 26:11Speaker 4: those every every week.
- 26:14Speaker 1: We'll do it, okay, okay, can.
- 26:17Speaker 7: We just will put our team in Germany and we'll
- 26:20Speaker 7: just stay here.
- 26:20Speaker 4: We just.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Show would be the play all our games in Germany.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Yeah, sure, sure everybody will love that, all right?
- 26:29Speaker 1: Eight five five pass five hundred is the A Sticket
- 26:32Speaker 1: hotline web radio at pates dot com is the email address.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Did anyone catch mac on ee? I?
- 26:37Speaker 7: Yes, highlights, highlights painful?
- 26:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, trying to.
- 26:41Speaker 6: He came through the locker room too yesterday and then't
- 26:43Speaker 6: really have you know, much to say, said he was
- 26:45Speaker 6: was sticking around, but yeah, all eyes on him right now.
- 26:48Speaker 6: It's it's I just I don't see how they can
- 26:50Speaker 6: come out of this by and not at least I
- 26:53Speaker 6: was interested.
- 26:53Speaker 1: You know, Mike Reese's he does his little ten points
- 26:57Speaker 1: after the game, cleaning out the note book. You know,
- 27:00Speaker 1: he mentioned something that I didn't think he would that
- 27:02Speaker 1: he thought that it might have been, in his words,
- 27:05Speaker 1: aggressive to sit Mac on that final drive after you'd
- 27:09Speaker 1: gone through the whole game. Bailey's Appi's just watched the
- 27:12Speaker 1: game and the bench and then in the game winning
- 27:14Speaker 1: potential game winning drive you take Mac out despite the interception,
- 27:19Speaker 1: he thought that was he questioned that move.
- 27:21Speaker 6: I think he's questioning it within the context of that game.
- 27:24Speaker 6: But I just I mean, I think I look at
- 27:25Speaker 6: it within the context of Mac and what Mac has
- 27:28Speaker 6: been doing this season, And you know, was it maybe
- 27:30Speaker 6: a little bit punitive that he threw the worst interception
- 27:33Speaker 6: he's probably thrown yet at the worst possible time. Maybe,
- 27:36Speaker 6: But at the same time, I just think all the
- 27:38Speaker 6: emotion and everything that's built up, and I mean we're
- 27:40Speaker 6: also seeing, you know, reports of I mean, you can
- 27:43Speaker 6: believe what you want to believe, but I mean, I
- 27:44Speaker 6: do believe that there are a number of players on
- 27:46Speaker 6: that team that are you know, that don't think he's
- 27:47Speaker 6: the guy, and you know that's that's the direction it's
- 27:51Speaker 6: going right now. But I get what Mike's saying, But
- 27:53Speaker 6: I just think it was it was one of those
- 27:55Speaker 6: things where we all felt it, like, didn't you when
- 27:57Speaker 6: you when he threw that one, the way it looked,
- 28:00Speaker 6: the opportunity that was there, I mean, just everything that went.
- 28:02Speaker 4: Into that one play.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Oh Mac, Oh.
- 28:05Speaker 7: Max, it's tough.
- 28:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm with Mike. I looked at it now. I
- 28:14Speaker 4: don't necessarily think it was fair to Bailey Zappy. However,
- 28:18Speaker 4: I think it was more than fair to Mac Jones.
- 28:20Speaker 4: And this isn't because I'm anti Mac or anything like that.
- 28:23Speaker 4: I think that the thing to do would have been
- 28:27Speaker 4: to take Mac Jones out of the game well before that.
- 28:29Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree with you on that, but.
- 28:31Speaker 4: And give Bailey Zappy a couple of chances and maybe
- 28:35Speaker 4: to maybe run a regular drive instead of that. I
- 28:38Speaker 4: don't look at that as an emotional decision. And that's
- 28:40Speaker 4: the way myke.
- 28:41Speaker 1: In that moment. What would have given the team the
- 28:44Speaker 1: best chance to win?
- 28:47Speaker 7: I mean, I think that's the that's the heart of
- 28:48Speaker 7: the argument.
- 28:49Speaker 4: I think you had an absolute zero point zero percent
- 28:53Speaker 4: chance to win with Mac Jones playing ward.
- 28:54Speaker 7: Okay, I mean I at least.
- 28:57Speaker 4: At least someone could have gone out there and caught
- 28:59Speaker 4: fire like he wasn't doing. It's the hard spot.
- 29:01Speaker 6: Have we seen that before the backup quarterback comes out
- 29:03Speaker 6: for one drive and leaves it down the field.
- 29:05Speaker 4: I've never I've never seen it in that circumstance. Now,
- 29:09Speaker 4: I'm sure that there's been a guy who came in
- 29:10Speaker 4: for an injury late and succeeded, but I've never seen
- 29:14Speaker 4: it like that where a guy got pulled for performance
- 29:16Speaker 4: with one drive left in the game that was winnable. Now,
- 29:20Speaker 4: I'm sure that there's like Pro Football Reference will tell
- 29:23Speaker 4: you all those you put them all in, and here's
- 29:25Speaker 4: here's an example of it. I can't recall a single
- 29:28Speaker 4: time where a guy got pulled four performance with one
- 29:32Speaker 4: drive left in a winnable game.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Now, Bill took whatever responsibility for the call, you know,
- 29:37Speaker 1: pulling him, But do you think it was a Bill
- 29:39Speaker 1: O'Brien said, Bill, we got to get him out of here.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Do you think Bill O'Brien told Belichick get him out?
- 29:44Speaker 6: My instinct, my unstinct will be Belichick. I mean, as
- 29:47Speaker 6: Paul's loved to point out, Bill, Bill heard everything that.
- 29:52Speaker 4: I think both can be true, though, I think O'Brien
- 29:54Speaker 4: could have said, Bill, we got to make a move.
- 29:56Speaker 4: Bill said, I think you're right. Yeah, you know, it
- 29:58Speaker 4: could have been like that. I wouldn't be surprised if
- 30:01Speaker 4: O'Brien said something to Belgium along those lines.
- 30:05Speaker 1: You know, because you know Bill O'Brien.
- 30:08Speaker 4: That's what they know, and that's why they called him.
- 30:11Speaker 1: You know, he looks at this and he should this
- 30:13Speaker 1: is a reflection on him too. Sure he came in
- 30:15Speaker 1: here and fair or unfair, everyone said up. Offense is
- 30:19Speaker 1: going to get better.
- 30:20Speaker 4: He's he's been under under attack too.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I know, and he and he hears it. He's not
- 30:26Speaker 1: someone that ignores the noise. Yeah, you know, no one is.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Really it was.
- 30:31Speaker 6: It was funny because I actually wrote it on my notes.
- 30:33Speaker 6: You said it, Paul really cracked me up. I don't
- 30:35Speaker 6: know about four weeks ago, they even broke teapot, Like I.
- 30:38Speaker 7: Wrote that down and I'm like, all right, he's back, baby,
- 30:40Speaker 7: We got that. We got our teapot, Like I mean,
- 30:41Speaker 7: I think I don't know a lot of people who
- 30:43Speaker 7: have been frustrated with some of this. I kind of
- 30:45Speaker 7: took a little like.
- 30:47Speaker 4: Come on, man and listen. I know people are gonna
- 30:51Speaker 4: look at this and say I And I think I
- 30:52Speaker 4: haven't read the story yet, but I think Shaughnessy wrote
- 30:54Speaker 4: something along the lines, are we being a little bit
- 30:56Speaker 4: too tough on Mac?
- 30:58Speaker 1: A little tough?
- 30:59Speaker 4: You know, he's trying. I'm not a big fan of
- 31:02Speaker 4: like firings, Like I don't want to see people lose
- 31:04Speaker 4: their jobs. I'm not rooting for Mac to fail, like
- 31:07Speaker 4: I know, people probably hear their snarks sometimes and they
- 31:11Speaker 4: they think differently, but it's time. Like I know, there
- 31:15Speaker 4: were a lot of extenuating factors that got us here,
- 31:18Speaker 4: and they're not all Max's fault, but I will say
- 31:21Speaker 4: Mac contributed to all of the things that everybody's talking about.
- 31:23Speaker 1: I feel for the kid, though, and I said, I
- 31:26Speaker 1: feel good about it.
- 31:27Speaker 9: Really.
- 31:27Speaker 1: It really hit home to me postgame when he said,
- 31:30Speaker 1: you know, does Bill still have faith in you? And said,
- 31:33Speaker 1: you know the way I'm playing, I don't know. Well.
- 31:34Speaker 4: Also, if you heard the way he spoke, the voice
- 31:37Speaker 4: got weak at the end, he was choked up. Listen,
- 31:41Speaker 4: I get it that I would. I'm sure I would
- 31:43Speaker 4: have felt the same way like you put and you
- 31:46Speaker 4: put so much into it and then you just can't
- 31:49Speaker 4: do it. It's not because of a lack of effort.
- 31:53Speaker 6: Especially him, because I think, I mean, I've been consistent.
- 31:55Speaker 6: I think he works really hard.
- 31:57Speaker 4: I think he's I don't know. I don't question his
- 31:58Speaker 4: effort putting it in the.
- 31:59Speaker 6: Off season, work and training and you know, trying to
- 32:02Speaker 6: do all the right things. I think Mac has done
- 32:04Speaker 6: all those things and.
- 32:05Speaker 4: In this game in general, I wouldn't like question the effort.
- 32:09Speaker 4: Like Washington, I had a handful of plays that I
- 32:11Speaker 4: wondered how hard everybody was playing. I did not have
- 32:14Speaker 4: that question in this game.
- 32:15Speaker 6: It was the I mean, I'm remembering now something that
- 32:18Speaker 6: you know came across my mind.
- 32:19Speaker 7: I'm sure I talked about it on the show.
- 32:20Speaker 6: Was just you know, Mac has some warts when he
- 32:22Speaker 6: came in, but it was a question of can you
- 32:24Speaker 6: outwork those warts? Can you work yourself to being a
- 32:27Speaker 6: star in this league? And I just I think where
- 32:29Speaker 6: I've landed is you really can't. There has to be
- 32:32Speaker 6: a little something that's just that magic that some guys
- 32:35Speaker 6: have and other guys, and maybe it's brought out by
- 32:37Speaker 6: a perfect situation, and you know it was there all along,
- 32:40Speaker 6: and you know, I still a little bit believe that.
- 32:42Speaker 6: But I mean, you know, generally Mac had as good
- 32:44Speaker 6: as you can get it, and that first year as
- 32:46Speaker 6: a rookie outside of you know, maybe having that true
- 32:48Speaker 6: elite weapon, but they made it work.
- 32:50Speaker 4: If you listen to a lot of those draft experts,
- 32:53Speaker 4: a lot of them felt what he would be when
- 32:57Speaker 4: he entered the league was his ceiling. And I think
- 33:00Speaker 4: we've seen it, and I think that there's a couple
- 33:03Speaker 4: of things, and I was on the other side of this,
- 33:06Speaker 4: so I'm not trying to take a victory lap. I
- 33:08Speaker 4: got a million things wrong that Matt can play the
- 33:10Speaker 4: clips for. But I didn't think that he was as
- 33:13Speaker 4: good as rookie year, as most others around here thought
- 33:15Speaker 4: he was. I thought it slowed down. And the reason
- 33:18Speaker 4: I thought it slowed down was because teams figured out
- 33:21Speaker 4: what he could do. I don't think he has a
- 33:24Speaker 4: lot of things that he can do, quote unquote, and
- 33:26Speaker 4: once they figured those out. Now Fred Kirsh goes to
- 33:29Speaker 4: work and says, we became easy to defend, right, And
- 33:33Speaker 4: I think he in general is pretty easy to defend,
- 33:37Speaker 4: regardless of weapons, regardless of protection, regardless of all of
- 33:40Speaker 4: the other and all those things are true. He doesn't
- 33:43Speaker 4: have great protection. He hasn't had a great running game,
- 33:45Speaker 4: although he did on Sunday, which is the only reason
- 33:48Speaker 4: why that they had those drives that they had that
- 33:50Speaker 4: I think Mike is pointing toward, like completely ignoring the
- 33:53Speaker 4: fact that they ran the ball down. I mean, at
- 33:55Speaker 4: one point, I think they ran the ball seven times
- 33:56Speaker 4: in a row. That's unheard of an NFL game.
- 33:59Speaker 6: That was my Zapie drive. That's like, you know you're
- 34:01Speaker 6: gonna go to that, Like, let's just go to Zapp.
- 34:03Speaker 4: They have to feel that they has to make two
- 34:04Speaker 4: or three throws. He made two, could make the third.
- 34:06Speaker 4: You know, we had one to Douglas. I think on
- 34:09Speaker 4: a third down and then he throws an interception like
- 34:12Speaker 4: the next time and to the rest of it was reminded.
- 34:14Speaker 1: But but that play was not a physical play. It
- 34:18Speaker 1: was a mental play. He saw it and.
- 34:20Speaker 4: Just but it was partly physical. It was because he's
- 34:23Speaker 4: falling away from the flow and he can't do this
- 34:25Speaker 4: everything because he doesn't physically have the ability.
- 34:28Speaker 1: But to throw that time to step into it. Yes,
- 34:30Speaker 1: he did his head. Yeah, like he's rushing when he
- 34:35Speaker 1: doesn't need to rush. He takes too long when he
- 34:38Speaker 1: needs to rush.
- 34:39Speaker 4: It's like, but a guy with a good arm, Fred
- 34:41Speaker 4: could do that, make a mental mistake, an inventor rush.
- 34:44Speaker 4: But he has a strong enough arm to get it
- 34:45Speaker 4: where he wants to Winny and you say, wow, he
- 34:47Speaker 4: rushed that throw unnecessarily. The homes got away with it.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I think he's such scrambled eggs right now. It's just
- 34:53Speaker 1: not he's not able to instinctually do what he needs
- 34:57Speaker 1: to do.
- 34:58Speaker 4: You know, it's totally unwrap him.
- 35:00Speaker 6: And I mean I even said to Evan yesterday it
- 35:02Speaker 6: was like I remember seeing him come in as a
- 35:04Speaker 6: rookie and being really impressed with how he looked in
- 35:06Speaker 6: the pocket.
- 35:06Speaker 7: There's a lot of chaos. Man, he doesn't look.
- 35:08Speaker 6: Affected by it at all, and it's just a it's
- 35:11Speaker 6: like that you don't know what you don't know.
- 35:13Speaker 4: And as he slowly was.
- 35:14Speaker 6: In there and he realized, like, man, you know, I'm
- 35:16Speaker 6: gonna get hit a lot, and this isn't like Alabama,
- 35:19Speaker 6: and these guys are coming.
- 35:20Speaker 4: To kill me.
- 35:21Speaker 6: And it's just slowly falling apart to the point now
- 35:24Speaker 6: where like I've said it a couple times now, that
- 35:26Speaker 6: play to me just summed up everything about where he's
- 35:31Speaker 6: at mentally, where he's at physically, where the team is
- 35:33Speaker 6: at with him with a chance to win somehow, even
- 35:36Speaker 6: though it's been one of your worst games, and off
- 35:39Speaker 6: the back foot with a little bit of pressure, no
- 35:41Speaker 6: ability to kind of avoid it, not the arm strength
- 35:44Speaker 6: to be able to, like Paul said, just kind of
- 35:45Speaker 6: fling it out there.
- 35:48Speaker 1: And I think from a teammates standpoint, if you're a
- 35:50Speaker 1: quarterback and you're getting pummeled every game. You have the
- 35:53Speaker 1: sympathy of your players, of your teammates, but when you
- 35:56Speaker 1: do something like that time and again turn the ball over,
- 36:00Speaker 1: you start to lose your teammates, you know, you start
- 36:02Speaker 1: they're like, yeah, I'm.
- 36:04Speaker 6: On ten points, ten points, Yeah, I mean the defenders
- 36:07Speaker 6: have to be sick. I mean, you know, and it's
- 36:09Speaker 6: and I don't think that they should be like walking
- 36:11Speaker 6: around trumpet and how great they are, you know they
- 36:13Speaker 6: I mean, they barely held on to contain Gardner Minshew
- 36:16Speaker 6: to ten points, but they gave up.
- 36:19Speaker 1: But you know, Paul, you remember, you know, back in
- 36:22Speaker 1: the day when it was Easton and Grogan and you know, guys,
- 36:25Speaker 1: the players wanted Grogan in there. They yeah, maybe Easton's
- 36:29Speaker 1: a better, you know it, row it was definitely a better,
- 36:32Speaker 1: But they wanted Grogan because he's our guy.
- 36:35Speaker 4: He you know, Grogan would stand in there, he would
- 36:37Speaker 4: move around when he got sacked. He didn't you know,
- 36:39Speaker 4: it wasn't because of the offensive line, like they just
- 36:42Speaker 4: thought he was tougher.
- 36:43Speaker 6: I'm just so curious in the second half, if you know,
- 36:45Speaker 6: if it is zappy, if he has any kind of
- 36:48Speaker 6: despite his warts and despite some mistakes that that he's
- 36:50Speaker 6: inevitably going to make if he brings some kind of
- 36:53Speaker 6: spark to the offense that you know is making some
- 36:55Speaker 6: plays that we just didn't see out of Mac a.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Little bit of part, I kind of do.
- 37:00Speaker 6: I don't want to be overly optimistic on it, because
- 37:02Speaker 6: you know, we haven't seen it from him yet, but
- 37:05Speaker 6: but I've seen him make some throws.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Do you think there's any chance they devote the time
- 37:10Speaker 1: that they have during the by to get Will Greer
- 37:12Speaker 1: ready and put him out there.
- 37:13Speaker 4: I mean, I have a bunch of faith.
- 37:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I wish I could say I do, And I mean,
- 37:17Speaker 6: I just I keep going back to with Will Greer.
- 37:19Speaker 6: It's just because he's an unknown and people think, well,
- 37:21Speaker 6: he could be amazing.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Do you see these poles?
- 37:23Speaker 4: Everybody, everybody in the brother is putting on a pole
- 37:25Speaker 4: who should start or Will? He's leaving it by. Will
- 37:28Speaker 4: Greer is by far and away because nobody knows anything
- 37:31Speaker 4: about exactly.
- 37:32Speaker 1: You know, it's the other guy. But I let your.
- 37:35Speaker 4: Point about Mac his rookie year in the pocket too, Mike,
- 37:38Speaker 4: And I remember, like I think, Fred, I think you
- 37:40Speaker 4: brought it up on the show, and you said, what
- 37:41Speaker 4: is everybody, what is the one thing that you like
- 37:44Speaker 4: most about man? And that was poised was one of
- 37:46Speaker 4: the things that I said.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Well, there was a stretch of game at every game
- 37:49Speaker 1: he come up with like blood on his face.
- 37:50Speaker 4: Well, I mean that's that's taking hits. Yeah, that that's
- 37:53Speaker 4: showing some toughness. But I mean poise in the pocket,
- 37:55Speaker 4: and I think that really deteriorated, you know, as that
- 37:59Speaker 4: year win on, as as Mike said, as he started
- 38:02Speaker 4: getting hit, wasn't used to getting hit because he.
- 38:04Speaker 7: Never got hit at Alabama one season, I mean.
- 38:07Speaker 4: But one season behind five NFL players, with five NFL
- 38:12Speaker 4: guys with them.
- 38:13Speaker 1: I know it's kind of crazy, But do you think,
- 38:15Speaker 1: like the ankle, like from that point on, he was
- 38:18Speaker 1: never the same.
- 38:19Speaker 7: That's a good question, Fred.
- 38:21Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 38:21Speaker 6: It's hard to really pull the threads out because of
- 38:25Speaker 6: what a disaster the offense was last.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Year, well and everything that happened subsequently, like getting benched,
- 38:31Speaker 1: getting pulled out, going back in after.
- 38:33Speaker 6: The I mean I would at least say this, I
- 38:35Speaker 6: would say it certainly probably changed the perception of him
- 38:39Speaker 6: by people in general.
- 38:41Speaker 4: Questionable. You know that that was he had he had
- 38:44Speaker 4: pretty much universal support coming out of his rookie year.
- 38:48Speaker 4: There weren't very many voices like mine that were still skeptical.
- 38:53Speaker 7: He's being good against I mean that Ravens game was
- 38:56Speaker 7: probably that was it.
- 38:57Speaker 4: But he was he was awful in the first two games.
- 38:59Speaker 4: The Ravens game, he actually made some plays, but he
- 39:01Speaker 4: threw picks and then he got hurt. And I agree
- 39:04Speaker 4: with Mike one hundred percent. The image of what he
- 39:08Speaker 4: acted like when he got hurt, I think resonated with
- 39:11Speaker 4: a lot of people and turned some against him, and
- 39:13Speaker 4: that started the pendulum going back the other way. I
- 39:17Speaker 4: think Mike. I think Mike nails it well.
- 39:19Speaker 7: Fred.
- 39:20Speaker 6: I mean, good call up by Fred, because it's just
- 39:22Speaker 6: those moments happen. You don't realize how big of an
- 39:24Speaker 6: inflection point it might be. And even now it didn't
- 39:27Speaker 6: really occur to me, but it was definitely a major
- 39:29Speaker 6: turning point for him, you know, regardless if that was
- 39:32Speaker 6: the reason why or you know, But do you think.
- 39:35Speaker 4: He'll ever be the Patriots like starting quarterback again, and
- 39:38Speaker 4: he might start another game, but do you think he'll
- 39:40Speaker 4: ever be thus starter capital I don't think so either.
- 39:44Speaker 7: I don't I mean, do you think we'll be back
- 39:46Speaker 7: next year no matter what.
- 39:47Speaker 4: No, No, I don't matter what. I don't think he'll
- 39:51Speaker 4: be back no matter what. I think it depends greatly
- 39:53Speaker 4: on if they draft. If they get like Drake May,
- 39:57Speaker 4: then I don't think he's coming back. I don't think
- 39:59Speaker 4: it makes any sense to have him be here when
- 40:01Speaker 4: you clearly are moving on from him.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:05Speaker 4: Now, if you end up I feel for the kid, though,
- 40:07Speaker 4: If you end up not being able to draft a
- 40:09Speaker 4: guy that you that you think can play next year,
- 40:12Speaker 4: then you might have to go that route of getting
- 40:14Speaker 4: a stop gap guy or something like that.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:17Speaker 4: Or if you end up drafting a guy like in
- 40:18Speaker 4: the third round who you know will not be ready,
- 40:22Speaker 4: you know, then then maybe he stays. But I think
- 40:26Speaker 4: seventy five percent gone. Yeah, I agree with Fred.
- 40:28Speaker 6: I feel I feel bad for him, But I also
- 40:30Speaker 6: this is there are thirty two of these jobs in
- 40:32Speaker 6: the world, and they're not for everybody.
- 40:34Speaker 1: And yeah, but I agree, he's just not good enough appropriate,
- 40:37Speaker 1: He's just not overcome the other flaws in this team unfortunately.
- 40:42Speaker 6: No, And I mean you can't help, but wonder like
- 40:44Speaker 6: if you plug them in with the forty nine.
- 40:47Speaker 4: Ers, I think I think you'd be bad. I think
- 40:49Speaker 4: you'd be okay with that. I think he would be
- 40:51Speaker 4: okay with a team like that. I'm really hard pressed
- 40:55Speaker 4: to come up with another example.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Right, there's not a lot of teams like that.
- 40:58Speaker 4: No, Like, I don't think it would look like Teddy
- 41:01Speaker 4: Bridgewater is a pretty accomplished quarterback in the NFL. He
- 41:03Speaker 4: had some moments in Minnesota, and the Miami offense didn't
- 41:08Speaker 4: look anything like what the Dolphins look like when Tua plays.
- 41:10Speaker 4: I don't think it would look anything like that if
- 41:13Speaker 4: Mac was the quarterback with Miami.
- 41:15Speaker 1: I know.
- 41:15Speaker 4: That's another opinion that I get a lot of pushback from.
- 41:18Speaker 6: I haven't seen the accuracy like that, like the anticipation too,
- 41:21Speaker 6: like just not and again to the still shots that
- 41:24Speaker 6: we saw yesterday, Like some of those those are plays
- 41:27Speaker 6: that you have, Okay, get on your back foot and
- 41:29Speaker 6: let it rip the guys there and he's going to
- 41:31Speaker 6: turn around and then he's got to catch.
- 41:33Speaker 1: In the NFL, you have to have some ability to
- 41:36Speaker 1: extend plays, you know, and the off platform, as Evan
- 41:40Speaker 1: would say, but.
- 41:40Speaker 6: It's it's not even you know, he can't even get
- 41:42Speaker 6: to the point where he gets off platform. He just
- 41:44Speaker 6: he he has no subtle pocket movement anymore. There's no
- 41:47Speaker 6: little and I think that's something that I felt like he.
- 41:49Speaker 7: Kind of had.
- 41:50Speaker 6: I thought some of the ability to step left and
- 41:52Speaker 6: just kind of fire it and you know, now it's
- 41:55Speaker 6: I did.
- 41:55Speaker 4: I thought he feels and I remember back like that
- 41:59Speaker 4: Miami game and it's funny. One of the first things
- 42:02Speaker 4: that he did as a pro was that getting completely
- 42:05Speaker 4: flustered in the pocket, getting tied up, turned around and
- 42:08Speaker 4: he threw the ball backwards. There it was General Smith.
- 42:11Speaker 7: There's another great call out.
- 42:13Speaker 5: Remember that that was That was early. I don't know
- 42:15Speaker 5: first what was he doing, Like, what was he doing?
- 42:18Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 42:19Speaker 7: And there it was, and there it is.
- 42:20Speaker 4: I mean, and we've seen that was the play you
- 42:23Speaker 4: saw I think Sunday when he tried to underhand it.
- 42:25Speaker 7: To right and probably more of them and it's just close.
- 42:28Speaker 4: That was to a pixel. It was I thought it was.
- 42:31Speaker 7: I mean, as soon I'm like, what are like? This
- 42:33Speaker 7: is again?
- 42:34Speaker 6: This is everything they've been trying to coach out of him,
- 42:37Speaker 6: you know, everything, and he's still like when does that
- 42:40Speaker 6: ever work? Like even Patrick Mahomes isn't trying to do
- 42:43Speaker 6: the old bump set spike O.
- 42:46Speaker 4: You guys do that, Like Mahomes makes a lot of
- 42:48Speaker 4: mistakes and Josh Allen is leading the league of interceptions right now,
- 42:51Speaker 4: but he's also leading the league in touchdowns. Like like,
- 42:55Speaker 4: sometimes you have guys like that that just make so
- 42:57Speaker 4: many big plays. You got to live with mistakes because
- 43:00Speaker 4: they're going to make for every every ten of those
- 43:03Speaker 4: threading the needles, one of them is going to get picked,
- 43:06Speaker 4: you know. And I remember Tom Tom Jackson used to
- 43:08Speaker 4: get made fun of it. I always appreciated Brett Fare's
- 43:11Speaker 4: willingness to throw an interception. He's never afraid to throw
- 43:13Speaker 4: an interception. And that's what he's talking about. That's how
- 43:16Speaker 4: you win three m VP's in a row, you know,
- 43:19Speaker 4: because you're making so many plays. Yeah, and you know,
- 43:22Speaker 4: at the at the end, you can't live with the mistakes.
- 43:25Speaker 4: And then you've got to figure out the time and
- 43:26Speaker 4: place when the risk reward is worth it or not.
- 43:29Speaker 1: All right, A five five pats, five hundred a ticket
- 43:32Speaker 1: hot line. Let's get to the phones. We'll start with
- 43:33Speaker 1: Patty and Agauan. What's up, Patty?
- 43:36Speaker 10: What's up everyone? Hey, just a couple questions. I'll take
- 43:40Speaker 10: them off the air. The first question I have is
- 43:44Speaker 10: I heard Jason mccordyon Tommy Kurns podcast and he had
- 43:49Speaker 10: said that three offensive coordinators in three years for MAC
- 43:52Speaker 10: is kind of a recipe for a disaster. So the
- 43:54Speaker 10: first question is kind of tongue in cheek. Is it
- 43:57Speaker 10: possible that Josh McDaniel two franchises back a few years
- 44:03Speaker 10: by by leaving after the twenty twenty one season, And
- 44:07Speaker 10: if they do move on from Bill this year, and
- 44:10Speaker 10: I hope Billy O'Brien doesn't, is not a one and done.
- 44:13Speaker 10: But if he is, I understand. I love Billy. Oh,
- 44:16Speaker 10: but do you bring Josh back because the odds with
- 44:19Speaker 10: him like going on to be a head coach somewhere
- 44:21Speaker 10: else is I don't think exists. And my fear is
- 44:25Speaker 10: that if they do draft a quarterback, you know, Bill
- 44:28Speaker 10: O'Brien is here for next year, how much longer do
- 44:30Speaker 10: you have him for? And put me in the camp
- 44:33Speaker 10: of Will Greer? But I just like to see what
- 44:35Speaker 10: he can do, and that's all I guy.
- 44:36Speaker 9: I'll take it off.
- 44:37Speaker 7: Here just I like his beard. I don't know put
- 44:38Speaker 7: him in I.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Mean the whole three three coordinators in three years. I
- 44:42Speaker 1: get that you know, it can be a bad thing
- 44:44Speaker 1: for a quarterback. Yeah, but when you look at that
- 44:46Speaker 1: play on Sunday, that has nothing to do with the coordinator,
- 44:50Speaker 1: you know. And that's why I think Bill O'Brien was
- 44:52Speaker 1: bulls at him, because Mac, the plays are there, right,
- 44:58Speaker 1: This is not play calling. It's also there's.
- 45:00Speaker 4: Also one system in three years. Yeah, and that to me,
- 45:03Speaker 4: And I asked.
- 45:04Speaker 7: Specifically the Alabama connection.
- 45:06Speaker 4: I asked some of the offensive linemen and my buddy
- 45:08Speaker 4: James Ferns, I told you I talked to him in
- 45:10Speaker 4: the preseason. Jimmy, you know, we're close. He said that
- 45:14Speaker 4: it's basically the same exact system you know, for all
- 45:17Speaker 4: three years now. Yes, that didn't help having three different voices,
- 45:20Speaker 4: and it certainly did not help having a defensive coordinator
- 45:24Speaker 4: who didn't understand sequential plays and whatnot and flat out
- 45:28Speaker 4: didn't have the answers to a lot of the questions.
- 45:30Speaker 4: I'm not telling you that this was ideal, but it
- 45:32Speaker 4: was largely the same system that he played in for
- 45:35Speaker 4: three years.
- 45:36Speaker 6: Yeah, but you said it, Paul, he was he was
- 45:38Speaker 6: He was better last year, you know, like, and so
- 45:42Speaker 6: you know, I'm not I'm never going to absolve that
- 45:44Speaker 6: whole situation of last year. But this is part of
- 45:46Speaker 6: me that wonders, like, was it more more mac than
- 45:49Speaker 6: we want to admit at this point?
- 45:50Speaker 4: Yeah, And I don't like the idea of bringing Josh
- 45:53Speaker 4: McDaniels back now because I don't think he's really good
- 45:56Speaker 4: at what he does. I think he can be an
- 45:57Speaker 4: effective offensive coordinator. I agree with Patty. I don't think
- 46:00Speaker 4: he's going to get another head coaching job, but I
- 46:02Speaker 4: just want to kind of start fresh and do it,
- 46:04Speaker 4: do it different.
- 46:05Speaker 1: But if you're Bill Belichick in your here, do you
- 46:08Speaker 1: if you think Bill would want to bring him back.
- 46:11Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 46:12Speaker 7: I don't think.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Don't you think it's to him? It's it's one less
- 46:15Speaker 1: thing he has to worry about. I know what Josh wants.
- 46:17Speaker 4: So are you saying like if O'Brien leaves, Yeah, well,
- 46:21Speaker 4: if Belichick stayed and O'Brien left, then you could talk
- 46:24Speaker 4: me into it. Now, if I were McDaniel's, i'd go
- 46:26Speaker 4: somewhere else. I'd go to Buffalo. I'd call McDermott right now.
- 46:30Speaker 7: I like that.
- 46:33Speaker 4: I'd call McDermott right now. So you want me to
- 46:35Speaker 4: come in, I can help me come on, I think
- 46:38Speaker 4: I think my buddy Bert brought that up.
- 46:40Speaker 1: He's been sitting on ice since that last game McDermott
- 46:43Speaker 1: because he's got to cool off that that red ass.
- 46:46Speaker 4: Yeah, you know it's it's so funny, pretty read right now?
- 46:49Speaker 4: Can I give you? Can you guys know, I like
- 46:50Speaker 4: Josh Allen, so I like to give you the Buffalo
- 46:52Speaker 4: mint and every once in a while. But yeah, all year,
- 46:58Speaker 4: all all season, all I've heard is the Bills offense
- 47:01Speaker 4: is broken. It's way too reliant on Josh Allen. Right,
- 47:06Speaker 4: so now they fire the offensive coordinator and everybody's like
- 47:09Speaker 4: the Bills are first in EPA and their second in
- 47:12Speaker 4: yards per pass, And Josh Allen said to listen, I've
- 47:18Speaker 4: been watching the games. The Bills offenses is a shell
- 47:20Speaker 4: of its former self. It didn't look anything like it
- 47:23Speaker 4: normally did when we played them here, and they still
- 47:25Speaker 4: scored twenty five points or whatever it was. And I
- 47:30Speaker 4: just don't understand how anybody could defend what that offense
- 47:35Speaker 4: has come to look like under Ken Dorsey. Now you
- 47:37Speaker 4: could tell me that maybe the guy didn't deserve to
- 47:39Speaker 4: get fired in the middle of the season, and he's
- 47:41Speaker 4: a scapegoat and I'd probably say, yeah, you're probably right,
- 47:43Speaker 4: but that offense is broke. Yeah, Like the only way
- 47:46Speaker 4: they have any success offensively is when Josh Allen makes
- 47:50Speaker 4: a superhuman play two digs like that's it. They don't
- 47:56Speaker 4: run the ball as much as they should. They don't
- 47:59Speaker 4: throw the ball with any kind of deception. It's just
- 48:01Speaker 4: like uh Olasky had a thing of him, like look
- 48:03Speaker 4: at this. They just had him sitting in the in
- 48:05Speaker 4: the shotgun. They don't even have a like a facacta
- 48:08Speaker 4: fake on his own read nothing. And I also think
- 48:11Speaker 4: that his shoulder is definitely bothering him more than people
- 48:14Speaker 4: say A.
- 48:14Speaker 7: Quick question for you.
- 48:15Speaker 6: I keep thinking about this with Ken Dorsey. I remember
- 48:18Speaker 6: when he came in as quarterback for Miami, and I
- 48:21Speaker 6: feel like he replaced somebody who was really good, Like
- 48:23Speaker 6: maybe it was one of those early two thousands Miami team,
- 48:26Speaker 6: but I remember looking at him.
- 48:27Speaker 4: Being like, who's this guy? Like he doesn't look I
- 48:28Speaker 4: didn't feel the same thing that you.
- 48:30Speaker 6: Yet I believe he had come in after that crazy
- 48:33Speaker 6: Miami run that they don't.
- 48:34Speaker 4: I don't remember you, but he had, And I think
- 48:37Speaker 4: I'd have to look this up, but I think it
- 48:39Speaker 4: was him. I think he played for San Francisco, and
- 48:41Speaker 4: I think he had the single worst quarterbacking performance that
- 48:44Speaker 4: I've seen in that says a lot. We had Cleo
- 48:47Speaker 4: Lemon here, we had Tyler Palko here, we had a
- 48:50Speaker 4: lot of real who's that guy? Luke Falk? Is that him?
- 48:54Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 48:55Speaker 4: Luke Falk for the Jets. We had some really Bryce
- 48:58Speaker 4: Petty Bryce Petty for the Jets. We had some really
- 49:01Speaker 4: bad performances here against some really great Patriots teams. Ken Dorsey,
- 49:05Speaker 4: I believe, in like four for the Niners was throwing
- 49:09Speaker 4: darts straight into the ground, unlike anything I've ever seen.
- 49:13Speaker 7: I think did Ken Dorsey replace at Miami? Do you
- 49:15Speaker 7: remember you're just a baby?
- 49:16Speaker 5: Never mind, come on, I have a I do have
- 49:19Speaker 5: a Ken Dorsey take. But we can do that after.
- 49:21Speaker 1: All, right, as you can see.
- 49:24Speaker 3: And then has we turned? And has we turned? Has
- 49:32Speaker 3: we turned?
- 49:37Speaker 1: All right? Evan?
- 49:38Speaker 5: All right, Well, we'll start with attendance, as we always do.
- 49:41Speaker 5: But some interesting factoids that aren't attendants related. So uh no,
- 49:46Speaker 5: Trent Brown still ankle slashed personal and I'm not saying
- 49:51Speaker 5: that's official. I'm just saying that's what it was last time.
- 49:53Speaker 5: Last week and no time Montgomery unknown reason from time
- 49:58Speaker 5: Montgomery did see him in the lock him yesterday. Uh
- 50:01Speaker 5: so I don't know what's going on there, but you know,
- 50:04Speaker 5: Hasty Uh it kind of plays a similar role to
- 50:07Speaker 5: him running back.
- 50:08Speaker 7: They made a hasty decision.
- 50:10Speaker 1: Maybe jeez.
- 50:12Speaker 5: Maybe, Uh you know, I think a lot of people
- 50:14Speaker 5: out there today talking a lot about Michael Carter as
- 50:17Speaker 5: a potential Patriots claim as well.
- 50:20Speaker 1: I did like that.
- 50:21Speaker 5: So maybe maybe some shuffling at the depth spots at
- 50:24Speaker 5: running back with thy Montgomery. I'm just speculating, maybe he's sick.
- 50:29Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 50:29Speaker 7: I'd like to bring a receiving back.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Can I ask you, Miguel question. Sure, if you claim
- 50:33Speaker 4: a guy off waivers, you required to keep him for
- 50:35Speaker 4: a length at the time. It's not like the practice squad, right.
- 50:37Speaker 5: Yeah you are, it's three weeks, I think. Yeah.
- 50:40Speaker 4: Yeah, So you're saying that they didn't with Hasty and
- 50:44Speaker 4: they might wanted to swap out.
- 50:45Speaker 5: I was, yeah, yea half when I don't listen, Yeah, yes,
- 50:49Speaker 5: I so Hasty. He's been a kick returner in the past,
- 50:53Speaker 5: He's played a little bit of running back, so maybe
- 50:56Speaker 5: he's somebody that is similar in type to tie Montgomery.
- 51:00Speaker 7: There's no ways jack as time Montgomery is, but maybe
- 51:03Speaker 7: he's as.
- 51:03Speaker 5: Good anyways in the attendance category.
- 51:08Speaker 1: J C.
- 51:08Speaker 5: Jackson was there, So he's back at Patriots practice as
- 51:13Speaker 5: is Riley Reef. You are allowed to come back twice.
- 51:17Speaker 5: So he's John snowing it right now, I know, and
- 51:20Speaker 5: he keeps saying he can't kill him.
- 51:23Speaker 4: Was promised.
- 51:25Speaker 5: So Riley reeve back at practice this week. I don't
- 51:29Speaker 5: believe would count towards the the IR clock because they
- 51:32Speaker 5: don't have a game, but the IR clock is still
- 51:34Speaker 5: nonetheless officially begun again for the second time for Riley Reef.
- 51:39Speaker 6: Do you think he's the left tackle after the bye?
- 51:43Speaker 5: No, I think that they've kind of put him in
- 51:46Speaker 5: as guard penciled from now on. I don't know, not
- 51:52Speaker 5: left guard, No, I wish No, I don't. I don't know.
- 51:56Speaker 5: I think that they're they're looking for some interior depth there,
- 52:00Speaker 5: maybe him coming back a little bit. He actually looked
- 52:02Speaker 5: good in the game. What game is it that he
- 52:04Speaker 5: got hurt in New Orleans? I want to say, or
- 52:06Speaker 5: he played pretty well in the game until he gott Yeah,
- 52:11Speaker 5: last thing we did get period one, so we did
- 52:14Speaker 5: see some drills and Mac Jones led off all the
- 52:17Speaker 5: drills with the quarterbacks, so they were cycling through. Look,
- 52:23Speaker 5: he threw some great passes against Arab Mike.
- 52:25Speaker 1: It was really right.
- 52:26Speaker 4: You're getting me ready.
- 52:28Speaker 7: I'm telling you, I'm excited.
- 52:29Speaker 4: Put my head at tebow.
- 52:31Speaker 5: Yeah. If I had to say, like, who was the
- 52:33Speaker 5: quote unquote starting quarterback at practice today, it would have
- 52:36Speaker 5: been maximum forty eight degrees.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Were people How were people dressed in terms of the meeting.
- 52:41Speaker 5: Oh, we were bundled up. We had coats on fred
- 52:43Speaker 5: because it's getting chilly out there. And you know, this
- 52:46Speaker 5: is really what separates the men from the boys. When
- 52:49Speaker 5: you're two and eight and it's the bye week and
- 52:52Speaker 5: it's freezing. Who's out there at practice and who is it?
- 52:55Speaker 1: Right?
- 52:55Speaker 5: Those are the dedicated people, and I will will say
- 52:58Speaker 5: I'm not going to name names, but it was a
- 53:00Speaker 5: lighter contingent out there today, which tells you that some
- 53:03Speaker 5: people are just deciding to let go of the rope.
- 53:06Speaker 4: And that don't worry. Don't worry everybody. When we have
- 53:09Speaker 4: a break, When my lunch comes and we have our break,
- 53:12Speaker 4: Evan will tell me.
- 53:13Speaker 1: And then and then.
- 53:14Speaker 5: Went back out what everybody I refer to who was
- 53:17Speaker 5: or was I'm just saying, you know, no, bye week
- 53:20Speaker 5: here on Patriots Unfiltered three shows this week.
- 53:23Speaker 1: And would you say, would you say the players had
- 53:26Speaker 1: bounced in their step?
- 53:27Speaker 5: Oh no, no, no, I would not.
- 53:31Speaker 4: I would not.
- 53:32Speaker 5: I would not describe it as bounce step shells.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Yep.
- 53:36Speaker 5: I think they were in full pads.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Oh really yeah?
- 53:38Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I feel confident in saying that.
- 53:41Speaker 4: Huh yeah.
- 53:44Speaker 7: But they're not that bad.
- 53:44Speaker 1: All right, Well that's your practice report there.
- 53:47Speaker 5: You're welcome.
- 53:47Speaker 1: Yeah. And they're off tomorrow and Friday.
- 53:50Speaker 5: Oh yeah, through Sunday. They'll be back in the building
- 53:53Speaker 5: on Monday. We're supposed to get assistant coaches.
- 53:56Speaker 7: It's going to be a new depth chart. Hung up.
- 53:59Speaker 1: All right, let's go to Matthew in New Mexico. Oh Matthew, dang,
- 54:04Speaker 1: he was looking for Hardy.
- 54:06Speaker 4: You know, you don't have to go to line line down.
- 54:08Speaker 1: Justin to Virginia. What's up? Justin?
- 54:11Speaker 5: Hey?
- 54:11Speaker 11: What's going on?
- 54:12Speaker 6: Guys?
- 54:12Speaker 1: Hey?
- 54:12Speaker 11: So I wanted to talk to you guys about Ken
- 54:14Speaker 11: Dorsey in the build a little bit.
- 54:17Speaker 4: I have.
- 54:18Speaker 11: So when you're five and five, is that really a
- 54:22Speaker 11: time that you should be like firing offensive coordinator and
- 54:26Speaker 11: they're good, yes, like they're not playing good right now. Yeah,
- 54:30Speaker 11: but they're five and five.
- 54:31Speaker 1: Well that's no.
- 54:33Speaker 4: I think that's the perfect time to do it. If
- 54:35Speaker 4: you're like two and eight, it doesn't matter. It's it's
- 54:37Speaker 4: like a sacrificial land for ice. We think we're five
- 54:40Speaker 4: and five and we're underachieving. That's what we think, and
- 54:42Speaker 4: we think that we have potential to be better. Like
- 54:45Speaker 4: Fred and I have our joke right, every game, no,
- 54:49Speaker 4: every game, it's you know, uh, fifteen and two is
- 54:52Speaker 4: still on the table. Well, twelve and five is still
- 54:54Speaker 4: on the table for Buffalo. I don't think they're going
- 54:56Speaker 4: to go twelve and five, but they legitimately have the
- 55:00Speaker 4: capability of winning seven in a row. So that's I
- 55:03Speaker 4: think when you make a move like that, if you
- 55:05Speaker 4: think the guy's not doing his job right and you.
- 55:08Speaker 1: Have a I assume they're going to elevate somebody for
- 55:10Speaker 1: that's the plan.
- 55:11Speaker 5: Yeah, Joe Brady, Joe Brady, who's called plays in the
- 55:14Speaker 5: NFL before.
- 55:15Speaker 7: Yeah, okay, so you got somebody waiting.
- 55:17Speaker 5: Yeah, and he was breathing down his neck for a
- 55:19Speaker 5: little bit, now, you know, Joe Brady was brought in
- 55:21Speaker 5: to be the quarterbacks coach. He's been an offensive coordinator
- 55:23Speaker 5: in the league in the past. Honestly, my take on
- 55:27Speaker 5: Ken Dorsey is two things. One, if you told me
- 55:29Speaker 5: that Matt Patricia is coordinating that offense, I would have
- 55:32Speaker 5: believed you, Like that is as basic and as predictable
- 55:35Speaker 5: of an offense as there is in the NFL right now.
- 55:38Speaker 5: And I'm not Josh Allen's a turnover machine regardless, but
- 55:42Speaker 5: when you're asking him to just create and make everything
- 55:45Speaker 5: happen without any window dressing.
- 55:47Speaker 4: All their success is all predicated on Josh Allen being Superman.
- 55:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:52Speaker 5: And Stefan Diggs yeah yeah. And they they run, you know,
- 55:57Speaker 5: there's they're formationally predictable, like you know if they're in
- 56:01Speaker 5: certain formations that they're running certain plays. They've been really
- 56:05Speaker 5: really good under center all year long, and they never
- 56:08Speaker 5: go under center. They always just put him in the gun,
- 56:10Speaker 5: spread the field and ask Josh Allen to just drop
- 56:13Speaker 5: dimes all over the place. But I think in the
- 56:16Speaker 5: big picture sentence, Ken Dorsey is a good litmus test
- 56:21Speaker 5: of if you have a defensive minded head coach, then
- 56:26Speaker 5: you're going to keep recycling through offensive coordinators, and if
- 56:29Speaker 5: you don't hire the right guy, then that can really
- 56:31Speaker 5: put you back. And maybe that guy, even if it
- 56:34Speaker 5: is the right guy, and Brian Dables case, he's just
- 56:37Speaker 5: going to get hired away to be a head coach.
- 56:39Speaker 5: And now a guy that I think is a top
- 56:40Speaker 5: five quarterback on talent alone, and Josh Allen it looks
- 56:44Speaker 5: like a shell of himself because the coordinator has messed
- 56:46Speaker 5: him up. So it's a big indictment I think on
- 56:49Speaker 5: the whole thing of you know, when you have a
- 56:51Speaker 5: defensive minded head coach, it's really hard to stick and
- 56:54Speaker 5: stay ahead of the schedule on offense.
- 56:56Speaker 1: I agree with Paul, this is the time to change
- 56:59Speaker 1: your coordinator if you don't think you're gonna get there
- 57:02Speaker 1: with the guy and you have somebody in waiting. There's
- 57:05Speaker 1: still a chance for that team to get to the playoffs.
- 57:08Speaker 1: So yeah, like I wouldn't see that.
- 57:10Speaker 4: I wouldn't bother doing it unless a guy was being
- 57:13Speaker 4: insubordinate or something, But I wouldn't bother doing it. Like
- 57:15Speaker 4: Bill O'Brien doesn't need to get fired now because you're
- 57:18Speaker 4: two and eight and your offense can't.
- 57:19Speaker 7: What's the point.
- 57:20Speaker 4: What's the point yeah, but they have something that they
- 57:24Speaker 4: think that they can make a change and it might
- 57:26Speaker 4: light a spark.
- 57:27Speaker 1: Tony's writing in he said, we used to debate Bill
- 57:31Speaker 1: verus Tom. Now the question is Bill verus Mack. Did
- 57:34Speaker 1: Bill ruin Mack? Or was Mac just never good?
- 57:37Speaker 4: Whatever?
- 57:37Speaker 1: The answer is, I think they both need to be
- 57:39Speaker 1: gone so that a true rebuild can begin next year.
- 57:42Speaker 1: I don't want to throw money at mediocre free agency
- 57:45Speaker 1: get back to five hundred. I want to bottom out
- 57:47Speaker 1: for a few years and collect talent, then try to
- 57:50Speaker 1: fit the pieces together later. They don't get may this year,
- 57:54Speaker 1: take a late round quarterback and start zappy. Next year,
- 57:57Speaker 1: suck again and try the next year. I think as
- 57:59Speaker 1: long this Bill is here, people will expect to compete,
- 58:02Speaker 1: and that is just not realistic in the near future.
- 58:05Speaker 1: To me, move on, reset expectations and Bill for the future,
- 58:09Speaker 1: not for now.
- 58:10Speaker 5: I have I really a couple of years. They don't
- 58:13Speaker 5: need to stink for a couple of years, like we
- 58:15Speaker 5: can this is your you stunk this year, like this
- 58:18Speaker 5: is the one mulligan that you have. I don't think
- 58:20Speaker 5: you need to go ahead. But to the first part,
- 58:23Speaker 5: the answer is yes, Like Bill Belichick ruined Mac Jones,
- 58:27Speaker 5: and Mac Jones probably just wasn't all that good to begin.
- 58:29Speaker 4: The Okay, I don't know why that can be so
- 58:31Speaker 4: difficult for people, but it is. And I'm not criticizing
- 58:34Speaker 4: the the email because I think he nails it. I
- 58:36Speaker 4: think there is sort of a debate, you know, who's
- 58:39Speaker 4: who's more to blame. Can we just make it fifty
- 58:42Speaker 4: to fifty. I think they made a lot of missteps
- 58:44Speaker 4: in handling a young quarterback, and the young quarterback didn't
- 58:47Speaker 4: handle any of that well, any of it right from
- 58:50Speaker 4: the like the second I still have visions of that
- 58:53Speaker 4: New Orlean's game when Bill had to carry him off
- 58:55Speaker 4: the bench that he was so devastated with his breathing exercise.
- 58:58Speaker 1: We used to say, you know, Bill, Chick and Brady
- 59:00Speaker 1: each made the other greater, and Mac each made.
- 59:06Speaker 4: You continue to be me. You could drop Fred.
- 59:08Speaker 5: It's a good point because like when you look at
- 59:11Speaker 5: Mac like you thought that he would handle Belichick well
- 59:14Speaker 5: because of Nick Saban and that was sort of the
- 59:16Speaker 5: thought process. Oh, it's like the same kind of coach.
- 59:18Speaker 5: He did not handle the coaching well here at all.
- 59:21Speaker 1: Not so like.
- 59:21Speaker 4: Even the first year when everything was quote unquote good.
- 59:25Speaker 4: There were signs that it wasn't great, and then you know,
- 59:28Speaker 4: I think the missteps that Bill made after that obviously contributed.
- 59:31Speaker 4: But again I've said this a million times. Yeah, bad move,
- 59:35Speaker 4: defensive coordinator, special teams guy, they're going to be running
- 59:38Speaker 4: your offense. Bad move, get it right? How did he
- 59:41Speaker 4: respond to it? Like as far back as June before
- 59:44Speaker 4: the state.
- 59:44Speaker 5: Part as your number one receiver, bad move, Trent Brown
- 59:48Speaker 5: is your best tackle?
- 59:48Speaker 6: Maybe just a quick tease for after the break. But
- 59:50Speaker 6: something that's just been on my mind is the Texans
- 59:53Speaker 6: their offensive success because Fred having a defensive coach. Something
- 59:56Speaker 6: we've been talking about just you know, how do we
- 59:58Speaker 6: feel about the Texans sustainabil you know, putting into place
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: maybe offensive coordinator, quarterback coach, building a tunnel, you know,
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: a pipeline there, you know what I mean? Like just
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: I think we're getting a lot of talk on it's
- 1:00:08Speaker 6: only offensive coaches, but you know, I think who Euston
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: showing that you can win with a quarter you can
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: win with a rookie quarterback. They don't have to have
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: parme wepons and they have a defensive coaches.
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: That's my discussion.
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: They have Mike Frable like Jamika Ryant's you know, good defensive.
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: Let's see what it's like in two years.
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the problem, and that's exactly what I would
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: say about Mike Brable.

- 1:01:22Speaker 4: What's up, everybody, Maddie here?
- 1:01:23Speaker 8: Mac Jones was on Jones and Mego with our Ken
- 1:01:26Speaker 8: yesterday on ninety three point seven Wei here in Boston.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Let's take a listen to what he had to.
- 1:01:31Speaker 13: Say, Mac, How we doing this week? Thanks so much
- 1:01:33Speaker 13: for calling in.
- 1:01:34Speaker 14: I'm good.
- 1:01:35Speaker 9: How are you?
- 1:01:35Speaker 15: We're doing well. We've talked about this a lot as
- 1:01:38Speaker 15: a show. I think a lot of fans discussed this
- 1:01:41Speaker 15: as well. Your Pro Bowl alternate, your rookie year now
- 1:01:45Speaker 15: on Sunday, your bench for the third time this year.
- 1:01:47Speaker 15: It was a self proclaimed terrible throw, was your final
- 1:01:50Speaker 15: throw against Indianapolis, and a lot of us, myself included,
- 1:01:54Speaker 15: want to know what happened to that guy from your
- 1:01:56Speaker 15: rookie season.
- 1:02:00Speaker 14: Yeah, I think you know everyone's frustrated, and you know,
- 1:02:02Speaker 14: obviously I am too, and there's a lot of things
- 1:02:05Speaker 14: that you know, I wish I could do better, and
- 1:02:08Speaker 14: I've kind of identified those things and that's where it
- 1:02:11Speaker 14: all starts, and I know I'm going to put the
- 1:02:12Speaker 14: work in to do it and I get the momentum
- 1:02:15Speaker 14: moving in the right direction. So obviously that's a big
- 1:02:18Speaker 14: picture kind of what you put laid out there, but
- 1:02:21Speaker 14: at the end of the day, I have to focus
- 1:02:23Speaker 14: on the small picture and figure out what I can
- 1:02:25Speaker 14: do better.
- 1:02:26Speaker 15: So again, if we're trying to figure out what what
- 1:02:29Speaker 15: the changes are, is it a lack of confidence? Because
- 1:02:31Speaker 15: from the outside looking in, that's how it feels. I
- 1:02:33Speaker 15: know a lot of athletes don't want.
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: To say that.
- 1:02:35Speaker 15: A lot of us in our our our professional lives
- 1:02:37Speaker 15: don't want to say that or admit that, but that
- 1:02:38Speaker 15: is what it looks like. Is confidence an issue for you?
- 1:02:43Speaker 14: But I think my confidence comes from my discipline and
- 1:02:47Speaker 14: all the things I've done throughout the years just to
- 1:02:49Speaker 14: you know, gain that, and of course at times as
- 1:02:53Speaker 14: an athlete that's going to be challenged. But at the
- 1:02:55Speaker 14: end of the day, I need to have confidence in myself.
- 1:02:58Speaker 14: That's like the root of the word, right, it's confidence.
- 1:03:01Speaker 14: It's belief in yourself and others. So that's kind of
- 1:03:04Speaker 14: what I what I know about confidence, and that comes
- 1:03:06Speaker 14: from putting the work in and being prepared. So I
- 1:03:09Speaker 14: do both of those things, and I need to continue
- 1:03:12Speaker 14: to be confident.
- 1:03:13Speaker 16: Mac that final play of the first half, it looked
- 1:03:17Speaker 16: like it was going to be a hail mary opportunity
- 1:03:19Speaker 16: for you, and after the game, when asked about it,
- 1:03:22Speaker 16: you said something along the lines of you have no
- 1:03:25Speaker 16: clue why it wasn't called that way. Did you get
- 1:03:27Speaker 16: any explanation since then about why there wasn't a hail
- 1:03:31Speaker 16: mary play called there?
- 1:03:36Speaker 14: I think I was just explaining, like the situation and
- 1:03:40Speaker 14: that wasn't necessarily gonna be about the call. It's just
- 1:03:42Speaker 14: it's like, what do you want to run there? There's
- 1:03:44Speaker 14: a couple options, but at the end of the day,
- 1:03:46Speaker 14: we had to get sixty yards in two seconds, so
- 1:03:48Speaker 14: it's kind of hard. You know, any play that you
- 1:03:51Speaker 14: call it's going to be hard to get that. So definitely,
- 1:03:54Speaker 14: you know, we talked about the different situations that we
- 1:03:56Speaker 14: could do and you just learn from it and move on.
- 1:04:00Speaker 16: Would you would you have liked the opportunity to air
- 1:04:03Speaker 16: it out there and take a chance.
- 1:04:07Speaker 14: Yeah, I mean sure, Mac.
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: After the game, did.
- 1:04:12Speaker 17: You go to get an X ray? I did, and
- 1:04:17Speaker 17: can you tell us what it's said?
- 1:04:20Speaker 14: Nothing?
- 1:04:21Speaker 17: Nothing, So you're not going to be rehabbing an injury
- 1:04:23Speaker 17: or anything like that on this bye week.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: No?
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: Okay?
- 1:04:28Speaker 17: Uh, you said after the game that you were dealing
- 1:04:30Speaker 17: with something.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Was it something physical?
- 1:04:35Speaker 11: Yeah?
- 1:04:35Speaker 14: I think you know, in a game, there's things that
- 1:04:38Speaker 14: popped up, but like I said, there's nothing, nothing serious
- 1:04:41Speaker 14: that caused any issues.
- 1:04:44Speaker 15: Patriots quarterback Mac Jones joining us here on w E
- 1:04:47Speaker 15: E I as he does each and every week. Have
- 1:04:51Speaker 15: you been told you're the starting quarterback of the New
- 1:04:53Speaker 15: England Patriots for the next game, Week twelve against the Giants.
- 1:04:58Speaker 14: No, we haven't talked about that really. Just today we
- 1:05:01Speaker 14: watched the game film and kind of talked about the
- 1:05:04Speaker 14: plans for the bye week. So we have practice tomorrow,
- 1:05:07Speaker 14: so just to see how it goes there, and you know,
- 1:05:11Speaker 14: the bye week's a great time to work on things
- 1:05:13Speaker 14: that you can do better. So that's what I'm going
- 1:05:15Speaker 14: to do.
- 1:05:16Speaker 13: When would you expect to get that answer?
- 1:05:21Speaker 14: I really am not focusing on that and really just
- 1:05:24Speaker 14: focusing on, you know, things I can control and focused
- 1:05:29Speaker 14: on that. I've always done that, and I really need
- 1:05:31Speaker 14: to improve, obviously, and that's what I'm going to focus on.
- 1:05:35Speaker 16: Mac. The camera's cut a moment on the sidelines where
- 1:05:37Speaker 16: it looked like you were having or you were just
- 1:05:39Speaker 16: getting some heated words from Bill O'Brien. How has your
- 1:05:43Speaker 16: relationship with him as your offensive coordinator changed over this year.
- 1:05:50Speaker 14: It's good, Like I always have had coaches and who
- 1:05:56Speaker 14: expect a lot of their players, and I love that.
- 1:05:58Speaker 14: So there's a good relationship there and I have no
- 1:06:01Speaker 14: issues with him.
- 1:06:03Speaker 17: Have you ever been taken out of a game in
- 1:06:04Speaker 17: that situation before where it was still sort of close
- 1:06:07Speaker 17: like that? I mean, we obviously saw the other games
- 1:06:09Speaker 17: where it was the game had gotten away. Had that
- 1:06:11Speaker 17: ever happened before? You ever seen that before?
- 1:06:14Speaker 15: No, I'm curious because the camera's caught you Mac kind
- 1:06:20Speaker 15: of given like a fist bump or wapping up Bailey
- 1:06:24Speaker 15: Zappy going into the game.
- 1:06:25Speaker 13: What was the message that you gave to him? If anything?
- 1:06:30Speaker 14: Yeah, I talked to all the guys and look, I've
- 1:06:32Speaker 14: been on a different teams and I've been in different roles,
- 1:06:36Speaker 14: and I know one thing. I want to win, So
- 1:06:38Speaker 14: I know that those guys wanted to win, and you know,
- 1:06:40Speaker 14: as a leader of the team, my job is to
- 1:06:43Speaker 14: encourage everybody and let them know that, you know, we
- 1:06:46Speaker 14: can win this game still, and we've been in a
- 1:06:48Speaker 14: lot of games this year that are one one score
- 1:06:50Speaker 14: or less games and that's important, right to know that
- 1:06:53Speaker 14: we can still go out there and win regardless of
- 1:06:55Speaker 14: all the stuff that's happened. You know, I talked about momentum.
- 1:06:58Speaker 14: I think momentum can be great and those types of situations.
- 1:07:01Speaker 14: So obviously it didn't happen, but at the end of
- 1:07:04Speaker 14: the day, I was going to give the support to
- 1:07:05Speaker 14: my teammates.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: Mac.
- 1:07:07Speaker 16: We saw a report today just on Twitter that Robert
- 1:07:10Speaker 16: Kraft was spotted in the locker room. What kind of
- 1:07:12Speaker 16: support are you feeling from ownership these days?
- 1:07:18Speaker 14: Yeah, I have a great relationship with mister Kraft and
- 1:07:21Speaker 14: I have a lot of respect for him and his
- 1:07:22Speaker 14: family and what they've built here at the Patriots, and
- 1:07:26Speaker 14: I want nothing more than to try and get this
- 1:07:28Speaker 14: thing back on the right track for them and for
- 1:07:31Speaker 14: the Patriots and the fans and everybody. So I have
- 1:07:33Speaker 14: a lot of respect for them. What they've built, and
- 1:07:36Speaker 14: I need to do a better job of being the
- 1:07:38Speaker 14: quarterback of the team.
- 1:07:39Speaker 17: Matt I asked Matthew Slater something similar. But we know
- 1:07:42Speaker 17: the game didn't go the way you wanted it to.
- 1:07:43Speaker 17: How was the trip for your team? Is it something
- 1:07:46Speaker 17: that sort of brought you guys together? Did you feel
- 1:07:48Speaker 17: like maybe you needed to be brought together a little bit?
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: How was how was all that.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: That was good?
- 1:07:53Speaker 14: I enjoyed Germany. I thought, you know, the fans that
- 1:07:56Speaker 14: were great. And obviously football is an internet actional game now,
- 1:08:00Speaker 14: so it was great to be out there with my
- 1:08:03Speaker 14: teammates and the coaches and everybody. So obviously we want
- 1:08:06Speaker 14: to win. I'm going to come home with the win,
- 1:08:08Speaker 14: which we didn't, and that was the most frustrating part.
- 1:08:11Speaker 14: But I did enjoy making some of the memories with
- 1:08:14Speaker 14: my teammates and coaches and my family and everybody, so
- 1:08:17Speaker 14: it was cool.
- 1:08:18Speaker 15: Quarterback Question of the Week is brought to you by
- 1:08:20Speaker 15: Northeast Men's Health, the Experts and Men's Sexual Health with
- 1:08:23Speaker 15: officers in Debna, Marlborough, Wooburn and Salem, New Hampshire. You
- 1:08:26Speaker 15: can visit Northeast Men'shealth dot com. Uh you were asked
- 1:08:30Speaker 15: in Germany Mac about working with a mental coach, and
- 1:08:34Speaker 15: you confirm that you've had a few different people that
- 1:08:35Speaker 15: you've worked with since you were young. Is that is
- 1:08:38Speaker 15: that a sports psychologist? Is it something less formal than that,
- 1:08:41Speaker 15: and how did that come about?
- 1:08:44Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 1:08:44Speaker 14: I think the biggest thing is is everyone that plays sports,
- 1:08:49Speaker 14: you know, had someone in their life that can impact that.
- 1:08:51Speaker 14: And I'm definitely been fortunate to have people that have
- 1:08:54Speaker 14: helped me.
- 1:08:55Speaker 13: Is that part of your routine like a like a
- 1:08:57Speaker 13: weekly thing or is that as needed?
- 1:09:02Speaker 14: Yeah, I have a good routine, so I definitely keep
- 1:09:06Speaker 14: that weekly and make sure I stay on top of
- 1:09:09Speaker 14: it and a lot stuff.
- 1:09:10Speaker 16: Matt, going into this bye week, you're third now as
- 1:09:14Speaker 16: a pro. Do you have any different approach to this
- 1:09:17Speaker 16: particular bye week than ones in the past.
- 1:09:22Speaker 14: I don't know yet. I think, like I said, I'm
- 1:09:25Speaker 14: still focused on having a good day tomorrow and having
- 1:09:28Speaker 14: a good practice, and I'm trying to iron out some
- 1:09:31Speaker 14: of the things that I can do better. So I
- 1:09:33Speaker 14: put a lot of thought into it, but my mind's
- 1:09:36Speaker 14: always on football and that will never change.
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:09:39Speaker 15: He's Patriots quarterback Mac Jones. He joins us every week
- 1:09:42Speaker 15: here on Jones and mego with Arkan on we e I, Mac,
- 1:09:45Speaker 15: we appreciate the time, enjoy the bye week, and we'll
- 1:09:48Speaker 15: talk to you soon.
- 1:09:48Speaker 18: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, oh no,
- 1:09:53Speaker 18: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 1:09:57Speaker 18: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 1:10:01Speaker 18: now it's next for residential delivery.
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: Only and now great moments in.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: History.
- 1:10:10Speaker 4: I don't think that Matthew Stafford's a sure thing right now.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: And you know, I like Matthew Stafford than Fred's gonna
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: make fun of me, but you love it. I think
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: if you get him in, you can find out exactly
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: what you have with Baker Mayfie. Guess in the last
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: five weeks this is a guy I think could really
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: thrive in my offense. Oh, this is a guy that
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: he's not a fit.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: I guess. If you're saying that Stafford's not a sure thing,
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: then okay, yeah, But.
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: I mean, how can you say Stafford's a sure thing?
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: I don't know. The injury was that, like he was
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: out for possibly out for twenty twenty three.
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: Oh no, no, no, he's not going to be out
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: for twenty twenty three, he may decide I'm not playing anymore.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: Okay, Well, either way, like that a sure thing.
- 1:10:50Speaker 9: Like.
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: I'm just like, I'm not saying that there's any reports
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: that say that Matthew Stafford might not play next year.
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: I'm saying the guy's in his late thirties and has
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: a spy contusion. I think he might say, you know what,
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: I got lucky, I'm getting out.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: So he's not a sure thing. So in mcveigh's in
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: mcvay's mine, he's not sure he's making me a report.
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: I'm not reporting McMath.
- 1:11:13Speaker 13: That's another great moment from.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: All right back here and Patriots on Filter at eight
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: five to five. PATS five hundred is the a stick
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: and outline web radio at Patriots dot Com. Been talking
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: about Mac, talking about Bill. We haven't really talked about
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: like the role of GM. Cod from Denver has an
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: interesting email. He says, put me down for starting zappy
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: post by. I don't expect or want to win much
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: more with him. I'm just exhausted watching Mac. At this point,
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: we've talked a bit about head coach candidates like Johnson
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: and b Enemy. I'd like to discuss GM candidates and
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: get your thoughts on a couple, folks. I love three people.
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: One Ian Cunningham, assistant GMBAR since twenty twenty two, groomed
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: by Ozzie Newsom with the Eagles from twenty nineteen to
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: twenty twenty one. I like this fella because of the
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: aggressive team building of the Eagles and the Bears since
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: he joined them.
- 1:12:05Speaker 5: I also want to hire somebody from the Bears.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: I also liked that his team was successful in their
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: evaluation of Jalen Hurts.
- 1:12:11Speaker 6: Does he say Ozzie knew some for the Eagles?
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: No, we worked. He was roomed by so and then
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: he went to the Eagles.
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: I don't know much about Ian Cunningham a full disclosure.
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: My guess is just from that resume that he just
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: gave us. Why wouldn't he still be in Philly?
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: Yeah? I don't.
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: I'm all set on taking people from the Bears.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: The second person is Adam Peters. Remember him?
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: Now this one I assistant GM forty nine Ers since
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: twenty seventeen, Another Ozzie guy. I like this candidate because
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: of the aggressive style of forty nine Ers despite their
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: failures at quarterback.
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: So he would be my leading candidate. But The issue
- 1:12:51Speaker 5: is is that you have to pay him. You have
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: to beat out the competition for somebody like him, because
- 1:12:58Speaker 5: he's going to have suitors.
- 1:13:00Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: I mean everybody's going to hire anybody from San Francisco
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: at this point. But now would be my number one guy?
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: Can I ask this? Is this still the same email?
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: Okay, go ahead? Continue.
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: Three is Catherine Raichie sistant GM Brown since twenty twenty
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: two and also with the Eagles from nineteen to twenty two.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: I like her for the same reasons as mister Cunningham.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: I covered the Eagle style and their success. Would be
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: cool to have the first woman GM selected based on
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: merit in NFL history. The only other one was the
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: daughter of the Eagles owner in the eighties.
- 1:13:32Speaker 7: That's interesting.
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: I mean, I like the direction we're talking though about
- 1:13:35Speaker 6: just generally with those teams that you know, I've just
- 1:13:37Speaker 6: had a lot of success acquiring talent through a variety
- 1:13:40Speaker 6: of means and haven't really.
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: Been in San Francisco. I agree with the email or
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: those are the kind of pipelines you want to be tapping.
- 1:13:47Speaker 6: What about I like this is not a great example.
- 1:13:49Speaker 6: John Robinson.
- 1:13:50Speaker 7: Is he out there? Is he like somebody who he's
- 1:13:52Speaker 7: out there and around you.
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: Can I can I ask this, you know, more so
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: because I don't I'm not as strong on candidates for
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: the for the GM, But can I ask you guys
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: your theory. Let's just say for argument's sake that it's
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: wipe and clean, they're starting over and the whole everybody's
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: no one's going to be back. Would you prefer that
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: Robert Kraft hire a GM who then hires the coach
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: or would you prefer the other way around the GM
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: then the coach.
- 1:14:19Speaker 5: I think you have to do it now, as all
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: feel that way.
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: I know it's a tough one. Tell me who the
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: coach would be because I might want the I might
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: want that give the keys to one guy. Thing again,
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: I don't know no thing.
- 1:14:33Speaker 5: If he if he deserves it, if he's you know,
- 1:14:36Speaker 5: I think that I think that what we've seen is
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: that that across the league there's really nobody else doing
- 1:14:43Speaker 5: that at a high level other than Bill, And now
- 1:14:46Speaker 5: it's not at a high level here anymore. I think
- 1:14:48Speaker 5: it's just there's too much work to be done, and
- 1:14:52Speaker 5: if the coach is ultimately going to overrule the guys
- 1:14:54Speaker 5: like macro that are that are putting in the grunt
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: work to put it all together. Then I just don't
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: really I see the point. Adam Peers is a good one, you.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Know, like in your scenario, if you hire the GM
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: first and then he hires the coach, he's the coach's boss. Yeah, correct,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: So that means you need a guy who's willing to
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: have a boss.
- 1:15:12Speaker 7: How did they do it in San Francisco with with
- 1:15:14Speaker 7: Lynch and Shanahan? That was with Lynch?
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: Lynch was first, Yeah, Lynch was first.
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: I think that's the bigger question too. With Peter's who
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: I love, but there's a lot of people that believe
- 1:15:24Speaker 5: that he's actually the one point in the strings in
- 1:15:26Speaker 5: San Francisco and John Lynch is more of that like overseer,
- 1:15:30Speaker 5: you know, former player, right, like John Elway type. But
- 1:15:34Speaker 5: the guy that's actually doing all the scouting is Adam Peters.
- 1:15:38Speaker 5: So I don't know how easy it's going to be
- 1:15:40Speaker 5: to get him out of And you can also.
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: Do that depending on how you want to do it.
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: I think there's more people that have say that you
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: don't know of, like like I think Andy Reid, but
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: I didn't ask the question that way. Because I wanted
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: to make sure that one guy had the power. I
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: just thought that, you know, does it make more sense
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: to identify a GM and get his coach or identify
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: a coach and get his GM, regardless of how the
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: power structure is set up. You know, some guys like
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: want to coach, Like I think Pete Carroll just I
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: think he's in charge of everything, but I think he
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: lets Schneider do the GMing. Yeah, for lack of a
- 1:16:20Speaker 4: better term, like it doesn't have to be like all
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: or nothing the way it is.
- 1:16:25Speaker 5: He I think that that's similar how it is in
- 1:16:27Speaker 5: Kansas City. I think I think Reid has the final
- 1:16:29Speaker 5: just the scout, like he's the head, He's the guy
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: that's running the personnel department. But Andy Reid, I think
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: is probably the one that says yes and no to
- 1:16:39Speaker 5: the high level moves.
- 1:16:40Speaker 6: I think too, if you're at the like a full
- 1:16:42Speaker 6: rebuilt kind of mode, like you said, Paul, it makes
- 1:16:45Speaker 6: sense to get a GM, a GM with a vision
- 1:16:47Speaker 6: this is the kind of team we want.
- 1:16:48Speaker 7: These are the players, and then you know, try to
- 1:16:50Speaker 7: find the coach to match that. But it's just a
- 1:16:52Speaker 7: lot of work to be done.
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: I just thought it was interesting. I heard them talking
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: about it a little bit this morning on the radio
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: on one of my shows. Yeah, I don't know, because
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: we it's been so long since we had to worry
- 1:17:03Speaker 4: about it.
- 1:17:03Speaker 7: Yeah, are you going on the show today?
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: I am.
- 1:17:05Speaker 7: You're gonna ask Tony about his film study, his his
- 1:17:07Speaker 7: All twenty two breakdowns.
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: Many more. He was also speaking at a banquet that
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: I have to go to it to night, so that'll
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: be fun.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: But it's it's a it's a fascinating question because you know,
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: for so long we've had one guy doing it all,
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: and now if he leaves, you have to hire two people. Yeah,
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: and the GM might be as tough for you know
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: or important, uh higher as the head coach, and you could.
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: Do it the way a lot of people have done
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: it as a package deal, like you know, I was
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: just you know, like McDaniels. McDaniels went and he clearly
- 1:17:38Speaker 4: had Ziegeler uh in mind. You know, I don't know,
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: That's also like if you hire Peters from San Francisco, Like,
- 1:17:46Speaker 5: who's the Mike McDaniel currently on Kyle Shanahan's staff, and
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: then maybe he comes with Peters as like a package deal.
- 1:17:55Speaker 6: What about Dave Ziegler, is that, you know, another one
- 1:17:57Speaker 6: of the retread options.
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: I would personally like to get away from me too.
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: You might not have a choice. I don't know.
- 1:18:07Speaker 6: It's at least intriguing of what he did when he
- 1:18:08Speaker 6: got there, and you know the movie is DeVante Adams.
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: Those things I don't like, what Josh right, right, That's
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: that's why I just supposedly, and this is one of
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: those deals that I'm always skeptical when I see these
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: kinds of reports, But Ziegela was supposedly really anti the
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: Garoppolo signing, you know, which tends to happen after the
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: said signing, doesn't ye, Yeah, Well you just wonder too.
- 1:18:31Speaker 6: I mean the way that that Robert found Bill, you know,
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: was here and you know he developed a relationship with
- 1:18:37Speaker 6: him on the side, Like, you know, is there possible
- 1:18:39Speaker 6: that a guy like John Robinson or Dave Ziegler, you know,
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: Robert was impressed with him, and you know they they
- 1:18:44Speaker 6: might have, you know, a little bit of familiarity with him.
- 1:18:47Speaker 6: I mean, I'm I mean, I I totally get what
- 1:18:49Speaker 6: you guys are saying, and I'm with you, like it'd
- 1:18:50Speaker 6: be great to just have a you know, a new system,
- 1:18:52Speaker 6: a new philosophy, those kind of things, if you're going
- 1:18:55Speaker 6: to do it. But I still think there's always in
- 1:18:58Speaker 6: any industry you're going to at least consider people that
- 1:19:02Speaker 6: you're familiar with.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: Josh writes in from Somersworth, New Hampshire. Newer listener been
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: listening to since July twenty twenty one. He says, I
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: know the exact day because it was the day I
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: passed my CDL test.
- 1:19:17Speaker 7: Oh congrats you.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: I don't get to listen live because I want to
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: be able to listen to every word, in the nature
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: of my job doesn't allow that. The question is, would
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: you see any form of possibility that if Bill doesn't
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: trade the first round for six and two cheeseburgers, that
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: they would be able to draft May and find a
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: way to trade up to also somehow get Marvin Harrison.
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: Oh jeez, like your next three drafts.
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: Yeah, then you're moving up from the thirties in the
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: beginning of day two to the top. If you're picked
- 1:19:49Speaker 5: four years, if you're.
- 1:19:50Speaker 4: Picking one of those guys, then you're using the second
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: or third pick, And then what do you have to
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: get the second or third pick? That would require to
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: get Harrison.
- 1:20:00Speaker 5: Now, the only way that you could do it just
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: to play help, let's play along. What if they get
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: a first round pick for Bill.
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: Yeah, so if you get you'd take trade, but it
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: would have to be like Chicago, well the first round.
- 1:20:17Speaker 5: Houston traded up from twelve to what three to get
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: Will Anderson last year. Yeah, So like if you got
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: a mid first round pick for Bill and then package
- 1:20:27Speaker 5: your the rest of your draft pretty much. I think
- 1:20:31Speaker 5: the bigger problem with like a guy like Marvin Harrison
- 1:20:33Speaker 5: in particular is that, like the the line's going to
- 1:20:36Speaker 5: be out the door of teams that are going to
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: be trying to trade up to that pick.
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: So like Washington could have that kind of a mid
- 1:20:43Speaker 4: right Midland pick.
- 1:20:44Speaker 5: Yeah, but if you're you know, sitting at three and
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: for some god forsaken reason, you don't want to take
- 1:20:49Speaker 5: Marvin Harrison junior, then there's probably going to be eight
- 1:20:52Speaker 5: to ten teams on the line that are going to
- 1:20:54Speaker 5: be trying to trade up into that pick to draft them.
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: So it's going to be a biding war. But I
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: thought of, you know, how how could you do it
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: that would it would be getting the most in return
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: for Bill.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: Matt Framingham emailing from the top of a building in
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: a motel, waiting for my crew to show off so
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: we can get to work on the subject of twenty
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: thousand foot views. I think it's time for me to
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: have a discussion about Bill O'Brien. In the end of
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: the college football regular season, it's near and that means
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: jobs are open. Boy, he has no punctuation, It's just
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: one big paragraph. Not surprised if what happened in Germany
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: Bill leaves to take a college job. I feel like
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: he sees the writing on the wall and he might
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: be coming to the realization that this is not the
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: place to be. I have no sources or anything like that.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: I'm just saying, when the Titanic is sinking, everyone is
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: ready to swim to refuge.
- 1:21:48Speaker 6: I mean, it's a good question about where his head's at.
- 1:21:50Speaker 6: I mean, I also just think that there could still
- 1:21:51Speaker 6: be opportunity here for him. He's from here. I'm sure
- 1:21:54Speaker 6: he's enjoyed being back in the area where you know
- 1:21:57Speaker 6: his family is and everything.
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: But it's hard. It's hard to know.
- 1:22:00Speaker 6: I mean, it's certainly a new regime could come in
- 1:22:02Speaker 6: and say we want someone who's going to install the
- 1:22:05Speaker 6: offense of the head coach, not your Bill O'Brien's offense.
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: I think that's the biggest thing is that if you're
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: Bill O'Brien and you know that Bill Belichick is on
- 1:22:13Speaker 5: his way out, if they hire Ben Johnson, then you're
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: out of a job. So before the musical chair stops,
- 1:22:20Speaker 5: you know, you might as well jump onto another job
- 1:22:23Speaker 5: before that happens.
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: I'd find it hard to believe that he would be
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: back if Belichick isn't.
- 1:22:28Speaker 6: Do you think Bill O'Brien still has a lot of
- 1:22:30Speaker 6: people the teams that are college teams that are interested
- 1:22:32Speaker 6: in him.
- 1:22:33Speaker 5: Yeah, college college, I think so.
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. I'm surprised that he hasn't gotten more
- 1:22:38Speaker 4: attention for head coaching jobs because I don't think his
- 1:22:42Speaker 4: track record is bad. I mean it's mediocre.
- 1:22:45Speaker 7: He was there a while, but he developed some players.
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: Yeah, he was there for a while and he was okay. Yeah,
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: so I'm surprised he hasn't gotten a second sniff yet.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: Chad in Atlanta, he mailed into the Germany Show asking
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: what Bill could do to keep his job if it
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: was hypothetic in danger and you all basically agree that
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: putting wins together and keeping the locker room together would help. Well.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: Another loss in another player down Jack Jones is making
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: me think Bill could be gone after this year. When
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: does ownership start licking their lips at that number one
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: draft pick? And do they really want Bill to be
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: a part of a new rookie quarterback. I don't well, you.
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: Don't know the email email. I thought that was another
- 1:23:27Speaker 4: you got you got.
- 1:23:28Speaker 6: The toilet bowl coming up right after the break. I
- 1:23:30Speaker 6: mean it's it's kind of like this game is ridiculous,
- 1:23:32Speaker 6: like playing the Giants.
- 1:23:33Speaker 4: You always think that would be better if it was
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: like week fifty, right right, Like, I mean, it's.
- 1:23:37Speaker 7: Talk about a game where you're gonna look at be
- 1:23:39Speaker 7: looking at silver lines like like do.
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: We want to lose?
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: Like what team wants to do? What team wants to
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: lose more. I'm kind of glad that this game is
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: on the road. Oh me too, so reaction. I could
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: just see like one of these you know, I could
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: just see someone like throwing out a phone like Patriots
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: dot Com during the walls.
- 1:23:59Speaker 6: Right, you know, yes, I'm just not having it here
- 1:24:02Speaker 6: like that, yeah, right, like that kind of gear, you
- 1:24:05Speaker 6: know what you're doing the Napoleon time.
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: Uh, just the energy in this I would I wouldn't
- 1:24:10Speaker 4: want it. I wouldn't want like that.
- 1:24:11Speaker 7: Like you know, the Giants score and the Patriots are
- 1:24:14Speaker 7: all fans are all.
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: I don't even think of the fans, but you will
- 1:24:17Speaker 4: get fans to, Yeah, we're gonna get first overall first.
- 1:24:24Speaker 5: We're still a little ways away from that.
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: Even if they make that that creative cheers.
- 1:24:30Speaker 5: You just need one or two. Like it doesn't Both
- 1:24:33Speaker 5: of those guys are are franchise caliber quarterbacks. You just
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: need one of them.
- 1:24:38Speaker 7: I'm still so curious what that Jets game going to
- 1:24:40Speaker 7: look like to in the last week, Like what is.
- 1:24:41Speaker 4: The like what do the Jets have to play for?
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: Is there any universe that Aaron Rodgers, Like, is there
- 1:24:47Speaker 6: any chance that Aaron Rodgers is coming back? And there
- 1:24:49Speaker 6: they need a win to get into the playoffs, Like
- 1:24:52Speaker 6: at least there'll be one more game with a little
- 1:24:54Speaker 6: bit of drama left this season, you know, like that,
- 1:24:56Speaker 6: like that last game, it'll be the last one.
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: It'll be the last one to be like, let's go
- 1:25:00Speaker 5: lose and lose and lose some more.
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: Alex and Charlotte. I think there's two solid roots. The
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: team could go with this rebuild in the draft. They
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: could draft Drake May Calib Williams and go all in
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: to be the starter of Day one while also find
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: a Day two wide receiver in offensive tackle. Sounds like
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: most of you would prefer this situation and anything else,
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: since the majority of you kindly pointed out the team
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: should draft all three of these positions back in April.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: But I guess the team missed those runs of Deuce
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: in Evans big boards May Maybe they were too busy
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: designing their inspirational T shirts and ignoring the noise at
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: the time.
- 1:25:39Speaker 6: Love that I caught sight of the tough Teams Cover
- 1:25:42Speaker 6: Kicks shirt in the locker room yesterday and I just
- 1:25:45Speaker 6: wanted to die.
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that is like, but there's also to
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: differences other to take from that tough Teams cover kicks
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: they can't.
- 1:25:53Speaker 5: Tough teams are thirtieth and special teams.
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: But there's also talks of going with a bridge quarterback
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: like Jacob or Dobbs, then drafting a Dobbs Dobbs.
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: I just I'm not really interested in Josh Dobbs.
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: Okay, Donalds, pronounce it is how you pronounce it. Right,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: you pronounce it, then drafting a late first round Day
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: two quarterback to develop. If that's the case, then you
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: can't pass up on Marvin Harrison Junior or Brock Bauers
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: with whatever the first pick the Patriots have. My question
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: for you all, if Mac and Bill are both gone
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: next year, which one of those drafts rebuild would be
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: more effective in the long run. If Gerard Mayo is
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: head coach and the team hires a young OC rather
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: than bringing back McDaniels or O'Brien.
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: Whichever quarterback is better.
- 1:26:39Speaker 5: God, we're gonna just do. I'm already sick of the question.
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: I'm sorry, it's not the emailers followed, but it's not.
- 1:26:45Speaker 5: We're gonna do six months of this and it's just like,
- 1:26:48Speaker 5: would you rather Marvin Harrison and the Day two quarterback
- 1:26:51Speaker 5: are Drake may and TV?
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: And my answer is simple, If the Day two quarterback
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: is better than Caleb Williams, I'd rather have the Day
- 1:26:57Speaker 4: two quarterback. If Williams is better, I'd rather have that.
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: Yeah, well then you rather have Williams.
- 1:27:02Speaker 6: We should just have We should find we should record
- 1:27:04Speaker 6: our responses and just have morel hitded on a loop
- 1:27:06Speaker 6: so it sounds like when we get the emailment.
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: But I just think that people, and again, this is
- 1:27:10Speaker 4: not picking like Evans said, it's not picking on the
- 1:27:12Speaker 4: email because he's right. That's the there's two very distinct
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: lines of thought. If you can't get Williams or May,
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: there's a strong argument to be made. Okay, we're all right,
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: we can still do this, but I think you have
- 1:27:24Speaker 4: to take Williams or May if you're in a position
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: to do so. And I think that we can drive
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: ourselves crazy with these things. No one wants to pick
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: the quarterback who does not work out, but you increase
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: your odds if you're able to pick whatever quarterback you
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: want as opposed to whichever one is left, which is
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: what happened last time.
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: Correct Christopher in New Hampshire rights In the current tearing
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: down of Bill, I find frustrating and annoying now that
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: the Patriots are awful, there are so many saying Bill
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: was always terrible. It was all Tom, and Tom will
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: won despite the coach. The desire to tear down everything
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: he accomplished, because in twenty twenty three he's doing awful.
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: It's such a gross modern thing. As a fan, once
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: the season is over. I want to say thank you, Bill.
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: It was a wonderful ride. The time has come, though,
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: but I won't forget what you've done.
- 1:28:13Speaker 5: I don't think this show does that. I mean, maybe
- 1:28:16Speaker 5: I'm rom I don't think any show does it.
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: Yeah, not the way he described.
- 1:28:19Speaker 5: I mean, I don't think anybody takes away from what
- 1:28:21Speaker 5: Bill has been able to do.
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: But you have to.
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: It's a what have you done for me lately?
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: World?
- 1:28:25Speaker 4: That's also a very modern self business. It's also a
- 1:28:27Speaker 4: very modern age thing to just say everybody now says
- 1:28:31Speaker 4: that Bill never did anything ever and it was all Tom.
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: Like No, people look at it differently now and say,
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: maybe Tom was more responsible for their success than we
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: gave credit to. At the time, a lot of people
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: gave more credit to Bill, and people have sort of changed.
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: I haven't heard anyone said Bill never did anything the
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: way that guy just said, do you. I mean, if
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: you heard a groundswell of people saying Bill never never
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: could coach, it was all all Tom and it's no Bill,
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: because even felgrind Maz don't say that as anybody.
- 1:29:00Speaker 6: No, but I've seen a lot of oh, I mean,
- 1:29:05Speaker 6: you know what I mean, I've.
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: Heard some and probably like Bill's been exposed.
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: Yeah, that's different than saying that he'd never had any ability. Right,
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: Let's see, maybe some people don't no longer think he's
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: the greatest coach of all time? Is that fair?
- 1:29:23Speaker 16: No?
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: To Evan's point, if we're Jack writes in if we're
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: already starting the offseason, shows now with the discussion of
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: the future in draft coaching hypotheticals, can we at least
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: get some fun topics like soap with a slot. I'm
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: not ready for six months of every caller asking you
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: if you want Caleb Williams to trade.
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: I'm not ready for that either.
- 1:29:43Speaker 5: This is my whole thing is like I always say,
- 1:29:46Speaker 5: if I start with the draft now, then by the
- 1:29:50Speaker 5: time that April rolls around, I'm gonna want to jump
- 1:29:52Speaker 5: off a bridge. Like I have to give myself at
- 1:29:55Speaker 5: least I can only start the draft in January. Guys
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: like I can't. I can't do it sooner than that.
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: It just drives me.
- 1:30:00Speaker 4: You dabble a little bit. I'll start in the middle
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: of April.
- 1:30:02Speaker 5: I mean I have to dabble a little bit, just
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: because we get all these questions and I want to
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: be like someone most of my takes are just disagreeing
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: with I've noticed that, and I don't.
- 1:30:14Speaker 4: Like, I don't follow it that closely, but I've noticed, No,
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: this is how many how many times that's a bar thing?
- 1:30:19Speaker 5: Yeah, well, Michael Park, Michael Pennix is legitimately a bar thing.
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: He keeps on.
- 1:30:24Speaker 5: I'm not disputing, but tell me on Michael Pennix, and
- 1:30:27Speaker 5: I'm like, it's a lefty. I can't do it.
- 1:30:29Speaker 9: You know.
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: It's kind of.
- 1:30:30Speaker 6: Because yeah, I was just I mean, this is apropos nothing,
- 1:30:33Speaker 6: but just I really like Josh Downs in the draft
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: and like just to have him kind of be like
- 1:30:38Speaker 6: play such a part in the kind of collapse like
- 1:30:41Speaker 6: in Germany.
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: Like, it's just it's weird how it works. That play
- 1:30:44Speaker 4: he made at the end of the game went a
- 1:30:46Speaker 4: long way to ending I know, I know. And it's
- 1:30:48Speaker 4: just funny.
- 1:30:48Speaker 7: You know, you kind of covet this guy and you like,
- 1:30:50Speaker 7: oh man, he's great, and then all of a sudden
- 1:30:51Speaker 7: he's on the Colts and he's you know, kind of
- 1:30:53Speaker 7: putting the final dagger in your season.
- 1:30:54Speaker 6: It's just it's weird how it works out.
- 1:30:55Speaker 5: I will give We'll give them this on that though,
- 1:30:58Speaker 5: really quick, like Tomorrio Douglass has been pretty much just
- 1:31:00Speaker 5: as good as most of those guys. Like, I think
- 1:31:03Speaker 5: that if that was how they viewed it, and I'm
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: gonna give them some credit. So just if that's how
- 1:31:08Speaker 5: they viewed it, was that we could have had Josh
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: Downs in the third round or Tank Dell here, or
- 1:31:13Speaker 5: we can just take our guy to Mario Douglas in
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: the sixth then it's the same player. Then they kind
- 1:31:18Speaker 5: of got it, right, Yeah, haven't.
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: I haven't watched enough of the games. I just think
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: it's dangerous to compare stats. Sure, Like I don't think
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: that Pickens's stats last year were mind boggling, but every
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: time I watched the Pittsburgh game, he was largely responsible
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: for any success they had in the passing game. So
- 1:31:37Speaker 4: to me, it was more of an impact. And at
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: the same time, I looked at Douglas right now, like
- 1:31:41Speaker 4: you could tell me he's been better than Tank Dell,
- 1:31:44Speaker 4: and you can tell me he's been. But that's all
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: the Patriots have right now. Yeah, they're throwing the ball
- 1:31:49Speaker 4: to one guy. He's he's making five or six catches
- 1:31:52Speaker 4: in games, and everybody else is making one. I don't
- 1:31:54Speaker 4: think Tank Dell is doing that when when Stroud's thrown
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: for four hundred and eighty yards or whatever.
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: It is, Emailer rights in Evan. I respect your opinion
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: and I followed you for a long time. That being said,
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: it's going to be a How can the guy who
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: has admitted he doesn't get into college prospects until January
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: sit there and tell us it's Caleb and May or
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: bust in my opinion? May, isn't it to me? You
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: take PENICX, Caleb or Jaden. That being said, if we
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: get May, I'll support him. I just don't see it
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: as always go Pat sign Alis Bart, that's Trevor.
- 1:32:26Speaker 4: But that's great because I think you look at these
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: guys and everybody has a preference.
- 1:32:30Speaker 5: Your preference is wrong. But I know, I'm just kidding. Well,
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: you know, when your team is two and eight what
- 1:32:35Speaker 5: was his name, Trevor? When your team is two and
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: eight Trevor, then the draft starts early, all right?
- 1:32:40Speaker 7: I mean even I even I know who this Caleb
- 1:32:43Speaker 7: Williams is.
- 1:32:44Speaker 6: Caleb Caleb, Yeah, nice, put together a v log on him,
- 1:32:50Speaker 6: maybe a blog.
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: Anthony wants to know, will we ever get invited back
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: to host a game in Germany based on the blank
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: shows that's our international homemark. We're gonna go.
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: We're going to Munich next Yeah, are there any fred
- 1:33:02Speaker 4: in all seriousness about Germany, are there any like stipulations
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: in place because that that is our whole international market?
- 1:33:10Speaker 4: How often we have to play there?
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: We I don't think we could host the game right away,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: but if for some reason, you know, a team was
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: on our schedule, we could be an away team at
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: any time.
- 1:33:22Speaker 6: Like if we played Carolina, but equal chance of being
- 1:33:25Speaker 6: an away team at a different international.
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: Place, we could be there too. Yeah.
- 1:33:29Speaker 4: Well, I didn't know if there was any stipulations about
- 1:33:31Speaker 4: how often you you host as an international host city,
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: how often you have to play?
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: Yeah, like you know there are. There's only gonna be
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: one German Germany game next year, and it's going to
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: be back in Munich. And I would assume, since Carolina
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: was one of the original HMA teams there now they
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: call them global market teams, that they'll get first DIBs
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: next year.
- 1:33:54Speaker 4: There was a lot of Carolina stuff around, and.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: I don't think Carolina is on our schedule next year,
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: are they? I'm not sure? So there, yes, there, we
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: already told the league, if you want to, you know,
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: put us in as an away team, we'll go back.
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: But we can't be a home team. I mean we could,
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: but I mean you lose like twenty five million dollars
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: if you give up a home game.
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: You know that if we play the NFC West next year, No, yeah, no,
- 1:34:20Speaker 4: it's not. Yeah, so unless that's the team that we
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: match up on the other division.
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: No, it's Arizona, Buffalo, Jacksonville, Miami, the Jets, the Niners,
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: the Titans, the AFC North opponent based off of where
- 1:34:35Speaker 5: you finish in the division seventeenth game is an NFC
- 1:34:38Speaker 5: North opponent?
- 1:34:39Speaker 7: Niners here.
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: No, So who's our NFC South want our.
- 1:34:44Speaker 5: NFC South opponent? Yeah, there isn't one.
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: Oh, we don't pay anyone from the NFC South.
- 1:34:50Speaker 5: No, okay, not the NFC South.
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: Okay, no, no, because we played the NFC South in
- 1:34:55Speaker 4: total in twenty one.
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, so there's no way we would play.
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: Yeah, we played.
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: We could be an away team in London.
- 1:35:03Speaker 6: Or you know what other international markets that are they
- 1:35:07Speaker 6: we played in the Germany that extra game. There are
- 1:35:10Speaker 6: any other countries that the games are getting ready to
- 1:35:11Speaker 6: go off on or is it just your well Mexico.
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: I mean they skipped Mexico last year. At some point
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: they'll probably get you.
- 1:35:16Speaker 4: Do something on these committees. You're a very powerful man.
- 1:35:19Speaker 4: Can you get Italy involved?
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: Italian play? At the Roman colisseum, I don't care.
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: I was talking some very nice gentlemen. Deuce was doing
- 1:35:29Speaker 4: a star turn on an interview with the Italian football people.
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: That was actually hilarious. Evan and I just sat there
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: and made front of Mike. But anyway, I said, what
- 1:35:39Speaker 4: do you think about Rome? And they were like, no,
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: Milan like they were from Milan, and they thought because
- 1:35:45Speaker 4: as beautiful as Rome is, they weren't sure that it was.
- 1:35:50Speaker 4: I I've heard like people.
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: I've heard like about Madrid.
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: I would love Madrid.
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: Too.
- 1:35:59Speaker 5: What's it called? I remember?
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: Yeah, Andrew says, hey, Paul Bill true, Bill didn't never
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: do anything. I'm the straw man.
- 1:36:08Speaker 4: You need it, You're well there you go, there you go, Bro,
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: Thank I am thanks Andrew, Come at me, bro Hi, Paul, Yeah,
- 1:36:15Speaker 4: I do think that that is that's perfectly put. I
- 1:36:17Speaker 4: think that is a little bit of a straw man
- 1:36:19Speaker 4: like Bill never did it. I don't think there's many
- 1:36:21Speaker 4: people that feel that way or have said that.
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: Certainly Addison wats three off season shows per week.
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: Like this off season of all off seasons, Fred, it's
- 1:36:31Speaker 5: the it's the one to do it, and that allows
- 1:36:33Speaker 5: us that one show where everyon won't be so mad
- 1:36:36Speaker 5: at us when we delve off into like Star Wars
- 1:36:38Speaker 5: Stock or.
- 1:36:39Speaker 4: Something Star Wars talking is fun.
- 1:36:41Speaker 7: He's gotten a lot better, though, I mean, I was
- 1:36:43Speaker 7: thinking the microphone away.
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: I've also got myself in trouble talking about non football topic.
- 1:36:49Speaker 6: I remember early on like Fred asking him the mood
- 1:36:50Speaker 6: and everyone be like, what now now he knows, now
- 1:36:53Speaker 6: he knows.
- 1:36:54Speaker 4: How to play? Like I was totally way. We had
- 1:36:55Speaker 4: a little little meeting upstairs today about you know, like
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: a recap of the Germany trip, and we were asked
- 1:37:01Speaker 4: to tell our highlights and our low lights of the trip.
- 1:37:04Speaker 4: And I was waiting for aving Toad, you know that
- 1:37:06Speaker 4: third and twelve they allowed like that, they just stopped
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: putting up later and like, I just can't believe they
- 1:37:11Speaker 4: fell for that and Josh Down's making but they ran
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: leak and I was, I was all back they did.
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: They didn't run leak.
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: Kevin all year sick, Ryan right, saying, what do you
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: guys think about Cliff Kingsbury or Bill O'Brien being our
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: next head coach? Also, do you guys think our draft
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: woes are still due in part to our not having
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: first round picks several years in the twenty twelve nineteen era.
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: Love the show, especially Paul and Fred. Great work. Keep
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: it up. Shout out to Eric and Andy, who we
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: will all miss fighting on an hourly basis.
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: It's okay that they're gone.
- 1:37:46Speaker 4: So by several times they've missed first round picks? Was
- 1:37:50Speaker 4: that not by several?
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: Do we mean one?
- 1:37:52Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:37:53Speaker 5: And then they lost one for the flake Gate, right,
- 1:37:55Speaker 5: I mean yeah? And then the Cyrus Jones draft they
- 1:37:57Speaker 5: had my.
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: Choice right, difference, right, I was, I don't know, maybe
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: maybe I'm misremembering, you know me.
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: Because he was he was there, he was the second
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: round pick, and he was their first pick.
- 1:38:06Speaker 4: And yeah, and they had they've had I think dunder
- 1:38:08Speaker 4: was too.
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:38:09Speaker 4: Yes, they traded, but they traded down to do that.
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: That's not that's not not having a first round pick.
- 1:38:14Speaker 4: There's a difference.
- 1:38:15Speaker 7: I mean, there's not a single member of the twenty
- 1:38:17Speaker 7: nineteen draft class still.
- 1:38:18Speaker 4: On this team. I will I think that that class
- 1:38:20Speaker 4: is nothing brings Deuce into a funk.
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: Like in the draft talk, I think the nineteen draft
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: is still the worst in my mind, like worst, Like
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: I know last year is now becoming like one of
- 1:38:28Speaker 5: those classes. But I think given the stakes of nineteen,
- 1:38:32Speaker 5: where like you had to keep Brady around and like
- 1:38:36Speaker 5: what you needed to maybe do to do that. Now,
- 1:38:37Speaker 5: maybe he was at the door regardless, But I have
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: to think that if they had drafted aj Brown instead
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: of to kill Harry, that might have changed their minds.
- 1:38:44Speaker 4: You know, Brady's mind be an idiot, that's what That's
- 1:38:47Speaker 4: what that was, if you didn't think Kanil Harry not
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: and and correct. So the the draft stuff, I will
- 1:38:56Speaker 4: say not to pick on the semantics about how many
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: first round picks they lost, but I do think they've
- 1:39:03Speaker 4: never really picked in the top half of the first round,
- 1:39:05Speaker 4: let alone the top five where they're on schedule to
- 1:39:08Speaker 4: do now, so that's not just the first round you're
- 1:39:10Speaker 4: picking thirty three, thirty four to thirty five, you know,
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: like that's every round that you know you should have.
- 1:39:16Speaker 4: This sting should be.
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: That's a good point. But I think that because I
- 1:39:19Speaker 5: have to just crap on everything that they do right now.
- 1:39:22Speaker 5: They never aggressive in trading up in the round either, yea.
- 1:39:25Speaker 5: So they're always picking, you know, even in the Brady years,
- 1:39:28Speaker 5: like when they're winning super Bowls. It's all well and
- 1:39:30Speaker 5: good that okay. You know, they picked Nick Hill Harry
- 1:39:33Speaker 5: I think was the thirty second overall pick. I think
- 1:39:35Speaker 5: he was the last pick in the first round if
- 1:39:37Speaker 5: I remember correctly, because they won the Super Bowl the
- 1:39:38Speaker 5: year before, and so you can sit there and say, oh, well,
- 1:39:42Speaker 5: you know, what are they supposed to do? They're picking
- 1:39:45Speaker 5: thirty second in the draft. It's like, well, you know,
- 1:39:47Speaker 5: you can trade up like that is allowed. You don't
- 1:39:50Speaker 5: have to always just pick where you're picking, or you know,
- 1:39:52Speaker 5: if you really didn't, if Bill really didn't think mac
- 1:39:55Speaker 5: Jones was the guy to begin with, which I think
- 1:39:57Speaker 5: some people believe, then why weren't they trading up and
- 1:39:59Speaker 5: now draft for justin fields. They're trading up in that
- 1:40:02Speaker 5: draft for somebody else.
- 1:40:03Speaker 6: If that was the case, you're also allowed to draft
- 1:40:05Speaker 6: guys to complain in the NFL in the later rounds.
- 1:40:07Speaker 4: That's okay too.
- 1:40:08Speaker 5: You can maybe find nothing to this this dark dark
- 1:40:11Speaker 5: place in their defense draft. Some of the like late
- 1:40:14Speaker 5: round picks recently. You know, Mike on Winny was a
- 1:40:18Speaker 5: sixth round pick to Mario Douglas was a sixth round
- 1:40:20Speaker 5: pick City, so looks like he might be able to play.
- 1:40:23Speaker 5: It was a fourth round pick. I don't think that
- 1:40:25Speaker 5: their issue was Day three, and their issue is Day
- 1:40:27Speaker 5: one and two.
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: So remember that guy named Tom Brady. Julian Ede was the.
- 1:40:32Speaker 5: Seventh round pick.
- 1:40:33Speaker 6: If what if you just traded out of the first
- 1:40:35Speaker 6: and second round and just tried to get as many
- 1:40:37Speaker 6: three through seven picks, but impossibly.
- 1:40:39Speaker 5: But I feel like that's how they look at it though,
- 1:40:41Speaker 5: and that was kind of my point about it.
- 1:40:43Speaker 4: That's why I was so mad about Cole Strange because
- 1:40:47Speaker 4: you have a litany of undrafted guys and you know
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: Day three picks that have done fine. That's that's why
- 1:40:54Speaker 4: do we feel the need to plug in a guard now?
- 1:40:57Speaker 4: If you want to get a tackle, a left tackle
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: in the first round at light you know, I know
- 1:41:01Speaker 4: he was a second round pick, but yeah, okay, this
- 1:41:03Speaker 4: is a guy who's a franchise pillar for you for
- 1:41:05Speaker 4: ten years. There's a beast volmer.
- 1:41:08Speaker 6: There's also an element of taking positions that are not
- 1:41:11Speaker 6: major needs. And you're running it into the ground, drafting
- 1:41:13Speaker 6: slot corners and strong safeties, you know, like that, like
- 1:41:16Speaker 6: that's the guards, like those things like those positions went
- 1:41:19Speaker 6: dark guard in twenty twenty two. I mean twenty nineteen
- 1:41:23Speaker 6: Evans right totally, like we need a good draft twenty
- 1:41:26Speaker 6: twenty two, Like you had just come off of spending
- 1:41:28Speaker 6: all this money on free agency, you.
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: Had some hits and misses.
- 1:41:31Speaker 5: It was five years.
- 1:41:33Speaker 6: It was staring you in the face that like this
- 1:41:35Speaker 6: is a critical draft right now because these veterans you
- 1:41:37Speaker 6: just brought in via free agency, Like we're seeing it
- 1:41:40Speaker 6: right now. These guys are all gonna be here for
- 1:41:41Speaker 6: a little bit, but they're gonna move on. They're older,
- 1:41:44Speaker 6: and that one then that draft is just as bad
- 1:41:46Speaker 6: twenty twenty two. I mean, Marcus Jones right now is
- 1:41:48Speaker 6: it looks like the only guy who's gonna have ANFL
- 1:41:51Speaker 6: somewhat of an NFL career.
- 1:41:52Speaker 5: It's incredible when you really think about how quickly, like
- 1:41:55Speaker 5: at least the nineteen draft. I was thinking about this yesterday,
- 1:41:58Speaker 5: like Damien Harris, Chase winneviy, like those guys were on
- 1:42:01Speaker 5: your team and could play and contribute. The twenty twenty
- 1:42:03Speaker 5: two draft is already terrible. Like it's been one year
- 1:42:06Speaker 5: and they're already all either off the team or not
- 1:42:09Speaker 5: contributing direction.
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: Uh, excuse me, let's go to Robert and Henderson. I
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: guess sorry, spun the dial Paul in Long Island. Long
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: Island are good.
- 1:42:28Speaker 6: So.
- 1:42:31Speaker 19: I'll take it off air, but I had I know
- 1:42:33Speaker 19: you guys have been talking about it a lot, but.
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: Is it.
- 1:42:38Speaker 19: I'm gonna be clearly honest with you. I really think
- 1:42:40Speaker 19: that Bill Belichick may be the most overrated coach in
- 1:42:44Speaker 19: the history of the NFL.
- 1:42:46Speaker 4: You're gonna be I asked for it and I received.
- 1:42:50Speaker 19: I'm not taking away too like I'm not taking away
- 1:42:53Speaker 19: everything from him, like he's the bottom bottom bottom tier.
- 1:42:57Speaker 19: But if you just think about like his person so
- 1:43:01Speaker 19: versus what he's actually has been able to do as
- 1:43:04Speaker 19: a coach, is it right to say that he's technically,
- 1:43:07Speaker 19: in my o, the most overrated coach in NFL history,
- 1:43:10Speaker 19: but he hasn't been able to win without the two
- 1:43:13Speaker 19: greatest players to ever play in the NFL.
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: Here's the thing, if that was true, would a guy
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: like Tom Brady not recognize that?
- 1:43:22Speaker 19: You know, I think, but if you're Tom Brady and
- 1:43:26Speaker 19: you're winning.
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: Do you really care?
- 1:43:27Speaker 4: Yeah? And what's in it for Tom Brady to say,
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: you know what, he was the most overrated coach I ever.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: No, he would never say that, But he also wouldn't
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: say how much Bill helped him. I think you know
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: and and wouldn't.
- 1:43:37Speaker 4: But I don't think it's fair to say he wouldn't a.
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: Lot of other players that have said that he's so good,
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: you know, players say that.
- 1:43:44Speaker 4: I just looked at it as like, how many of
- 1:43:47Speaker 4: these great coaches didn't have great players they also you
- 1:43:51Speaker 4: could make an argument that way for a lot of guys.
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: And listen, I understand some of the bloom is off
- 1:43:56Speaker 4: of Belichick's rose, but he's had a lot, you know,
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: a long track record now without Brady. No, I get it,
- 1:44:02Speaker 4: but it's not just a one or two year sample size.
- 1:44:04Speaker 4: It's you know, the five years in Cleveland and now
- 1:44:07Speaker 4: basically five years in New England.
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: But the thing about it, like I remember when Richard
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: Seymour was here, Like he wasn't a stats guy, but
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: what you heard for was other opponents and coaching coaches
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: telling us how good Richard Seymour was. Yeah, you know
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: that's and and you hear the same thing from Bill's
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: own players. If he was overrated, you wouldn't hear that.
- 1:44:27Speaker 6: Yeah, you hear from other teams how much there is
- 1:44:30Speaker 6: to get ready to play the Patriots, and traditionally not
- 1:44:33Speaker 6: so much these days.
- 1:44:34Speaker 5: I think I don't put his mus stock into that
- 1:44:36Speaker 5: as you do. But I don't think he's I think
- 1:44:38Speaker 5: the flaw.
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: With Bill has is kind of like it's team building.
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: It's it's the it's the talient talent evaluation. I think
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: sometimes he essues talent in order to build relationships. I'm
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: talking about the draft now, like you know, oh this
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: guy was you know, with Ference or this guy was
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: with Pat Hill or this guy, and he'd rather help
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: out his friends and draft guy from those teams rather.
- 1:45:01Speaker 4: Than just just just take just take the best guy.
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: You know. And the other thing about Bill is I
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: think sometimes he likes to maybe dig a little deeper
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: for a player so that player will come in and
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: be totally beholden to Bill, like forever grateful that he
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: took me. You know, David Andrews for example.
- 1:45:20Speaker 6: You know what, Jack Jones, Maybe that was the thought
- 1:45:22Speaker 6: with Jack Jones.
- 1:45:22Speaker 4: But that's why I don't put as much stock into
- 1:45:24Speaker 4: what the players, but I think the career.
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: I think some of those other things about Bill that's
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: kind of a flaw with him in talent evaluation. He
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: thinks about that other stuff sometimes too much and rather
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: than just take the best player.
- 1:45:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I think there's a lot.
- 1:45:38Speaker 19: Of Like there's times where like even even listen and
- 1:45:43Speaker 19: I am the furthest thing from a football expert. I'm
- 1:45:45Speaker 19: the fan that just watches you know, I don't I'm
- 1:45:47Speaker 19: not even you know, on your guys' level. But like
- 1:45:51Speaker 19: I watched the drabty and I see him pick things,
- 1:45:53Speaker 19: and I go, what.
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: Is he doing? Like, what is it?
- 1:45:57Speaker 19: Three years ago or maybe four years ago, I was
- 1:46:02Speaker 19: literally praying that we would take a J. Brown in
- 1:46:05Speaker 19: the draft. He was he was talking about how he
- 1:46:07Speaker 19: always dreamed for playing for the Patriots perfectly, and they
- 1:46:12Speaker 19: skipped them and they kill Harry.
- 1:46:15Speaker 5: Okay, but there's a difference between.
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: Like, see, all these things we're talking about, and you
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: might be right, Paul, but all these things we're talking
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: about is not coaching. I think when it comes to coaching,
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: he is the best. It's this other part that.
- 1:46:26Speaker 19: Why don't reporters and maybe you guys could answer this.
- 1:46:29Speaker 19: But if I why why doesn't he ever have to
- 1:46:32Speaker 19: answer it? Because if i'm I would love to go
- 1:46:34Speaker 19: to him and say, Bill, I'm cur.
- 1:46:36Speaker 5: You do that, you do you come to the press
- 1:46:39Speaker 5: conference and you do it.
- 1:46:40Speaker 4: So have you this I mean, in all seriousness, I'm
- 1:46:42Speaker 4: asking this legitimately. Have you listened to a lot of
- 1:46:45Speaker 4: press conferences?
- 1:46:47Speaker 19: Oh well, he doesn't answer anything right, and and.
- 1:46:49Speaker 4: People have asked questions. Believe me, people have asked questions even.
- 1:46:53Speaker 19: Like but I'm but I'm just saying, like in the
- 1:46:55Speaker 19: sense of you know, I listen, I'm I'm all about
- 1:46:58Speaker 19: respect you were like versus him, And I get that totally.
- 1:47:02Speaker 19: And I'm not necessarily saying they should fire him, you know,
- 1:47:05Speaker 19: because I mean, at the end of the day, I'm
- 1:47:08Speaker 19: not saying that that's really going to solve a problem.
- 1:47:10Speaker 19: I think that they should hire a DM, but I
- 1:47:13Speaker 19: don't think he's going to solve a problem necessarily. But
- 1:47:15Speaker 19: because he is, I do think at the end of
- 1:47:18Speaker 19: the day, he knows a lot about the game and
- 1:47:19Speaker 19: how to do, you know, coach and things like that.
- 1:47:22Speaker 19: I think he's a better defensive coordinator than a head coach.
- 1:47:24Speaker 19: But you know, I just I want to know, like,
- 1:47:29Speaker 19: what is he He's looking at film all day? How
- 1:47:31Speaker 19: is it that me, as a fan that doesn't watch
- 1:47:33Speaker 19: any film, could look at look at the dress and
- 1:47:36Speaker 19: say that was the worst, the worst pick I've ever
- 1:47:38Speaker 19: seen my entire life. But these people are studying it
- 1:47:40Speaker 19: every day and they don't even see that.
- 1:47:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel that.
- 1:47:44Speaker 6: I feel that too, and that's why sometimes I feel
- 1:47:45Speaker 6: her guy all right, thanks, I felt the same way.
- 1:47:50Speaker 4: Of I mean, I feel like it's the same thing.
- 1:47:52Speaker 6: I've been doing draft big boards since twenty eleven, So
- 1:47:55Speaker 6: what thirteen years of like looking at guys and trying
- 1:47:58Speaker 6: to pick guys and you know.
- 1:47:59Speaker 4: You you hate to say, well, you know, it's just
- 1:48:02Speaker 4: you put a lot of time into I started calling
- 1:48:04Speaker 4: him Joel.
- 1:48:05Speaker 6: He's basically a g But like when they pick guys
- 1:48:08Speaker 6: and you're like what you know? But it can't you
- 1:48:11Speaker 6: feel stupid because you're like, I'm on the outside. They
- 1:48:13Speaker 6: have guys working twenty four hours watching all the film
- 1:48:15Speaker 6: and they, you know, go to cold Stranger's like you know,
- 1:48:17Speaker 6: mother in law and what she say about him, and
- 1:48:19Speaker 6: they know everything there is to know about this guy,
- 1:48:21Speaker 6: you know, and you're just sitting there going like, I.
- 1:48:23Speaker 4: Don't know, he looks like he's really small. And then
- 1:48:25Speaker 4: it's kind of what my reaction was when they drafted
- 1:48:29Speaker 4: in the third round.
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I think there's too much that he considers other
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: than talent and and you know, strengthening connections that he
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: has with other coaches.
- 1:48:38Speaker 5: But like all, like the caller is saying, he's the
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: most overrated coach of all time, none of this has
- 1:48:42Speaker 5: to do with coaching, right, Like you're all talking about
- 1:48:46Speaker 5: like player evaluation and stuff like what you know, I
- 1:48:50Speaker 5: will say, I'm not going to try to go like all,
- 1:48:52Speaker 5: and I was on you, but like I do think
- 1:48:54Speaker 5: you know.
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: And it's funny because I was thinking about this on
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: the drive to work today, you know, I was thinking
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: about the first thing I said, but then I the
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: other flaw I think he has does have to do
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: with coaching, in his treatment of players and his sometimes
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: draconian rules. You know, you fumble and you know, uh,
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: that's it. You're on the bench if you're a rookie.
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: That those types of things, I think, nurturing young players
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: if they're not immediately like you know, right in tune
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: with the way he wants things done. It's it's tough
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: to recover from that as a player on a Bill
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: Belichick team, and I think, you know, maybe twenty years
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: ago that was okay.
- 1:49:32Speaker 6: But you gotta how many other coaches are like that
- 1:49:35Speaker 6: right now in the league, because I mean, Mike Mike
- 1:49:36Speaker 6: McDaniel will be probably like the polar opposite of just
- 1:49:39Speaker 6: kind of a you know, goofy players coach who's a
- 1:49:41Speaker 6: little bit of a wiz nerd. And I agree, though,
- 1:49:44Speaker 6: I just I wonder if that message isn't just hitting
- 1:49:47Speaker 6: these this generation now where it's really disciplined, really hard.
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: I think that some of those guys I agree with that,
- 1:49:54Speaker 4: by the way, but I think that there's still like
- 1:49:58Speaker 4: there's a lot of players coach that are coming in.
- 1:50:00Speaker 4: But I think there's plenty of disciplinarians too. But I
- 1:50:03Speaker 4: think that they have adapted more than Bill does with
- 1:50:07Speaker 4: that kind of stuff. That's I think Andy Reid is
- 1:50:09Speaker 4: that is a Belichick kind of coach, like you, a
- 1:50:12Speaker 4: very demanding program, puts a lot of time into it.
- 1:50:15Speaker 4: I think I think Kyle Shanahan's probably like that. I
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: don't think Kyle Shanahan's a like a barrel laughs to
- 1:50:22Speaker 4: play for I think you look the way he's treated
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: his quarterbacks the last couple of years. Uh, you know
- 1:50:27Speaker 4: what he did to Garoppolo even and not that he
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: deserved you know, Brady treatment, but I mean they treated
- 1:50:33Speaker 4: him like garbage at times. Like I don't think that
- 1:50:35Speaker 4: all of these guys are all quote unquote play Like
- 1:50:37Speaker 4: Mike McDaniel looks like a player's coach. He looks like
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: he's sort of you know, and I'll be curious to
- 1:50:42Speaker 4: see how that, you know, lasts, how that endures. Just
- 1:50:47Speaker 4: sometimes you start to lose control a little bit when.
- 1:50:49Speaker 5: Bill is a Bill's best trade to me other than
- 1:50:53Speaker 5: game planning. Game planning I think might be number one.
- 1:50:56Speaker 5: But he the way he teaches the game is unmatched,
- 1:51:02Speaker 5: unmatched and his ability to I can't tell people how
- 1:51:06Speaker 5: hard it is to watch a live practice and have
- 1:51:10Speaker 5: watch all twenty two guys go through a rep and
- 1:51:13Speaker 5: then be able to correct all twenty two guys.
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: And we've seen it in real time, like go up
- 1:51:18Speaker 4: to the.
- 1:51:18Speaker 5: Guy and be like, your hand was here, if you
- 1:51:20Speaker 5: put your hand there, then you know, like that type
- 1:51:23Speaker 5: of just little details like that, like you would be
- 1:51:25Speaker 5: amazed by how much forty chess he is playing in
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: that respect, like it's only over everybody's head.
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: Besides that you hear from players is how he teaches,
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: Like coaching is teaching, and he's he's the best at it.
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: He's able to simplify it and give each person their
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: responsibility and explain it to them in a way that
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: they completely understand it.
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: If you want to make an argument that he's not
- 1:51:49Speaker 4: as great as he's made out to be, you could
- 1:51:51Speaker 4: probably make that argument, because who is you know, when
- 1:51:54Speaker 4: they're the great ones, you know, like they get credit.
- 1:51:56Speaker 4: But I would push back on anybody who questions his
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: foot the other way. I haven't said it. I've watched
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: practices for twenty five years and have been amazed at
- 1:52:05Speaker 4: how much teaching he does on the practice field.
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: Yeah. The other thing I question is when a guy
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: who has talent starts to fall off the program a
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: little bit, how much effort or ability does Bill have
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: to one on one kind of bring that person back
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: to the fold or does he just say I don't
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: have time for that. Ye you know, like, is there
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: an effort that goes into guys who you know have
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: potential but just aren't listening?
- 1:52:32Speaker 6: Does he well, that's That's where my head went because
- 1:52:35Speaker 6: I think, I mean, I think everybody should probably agree that,
- 1:52:37Speaker 6: like sitting down trying to teach the game of football,
- 1:52:40Speaker 6: that he is probably the best, but right now getting everybody,
- 1:52:43Speaker 6: Like there's the aspect of coaching of getting everyone on
- 1:52:46Speaker 6: the same page and motivating the team, and I think
- 1:52:49Speaker 6: right now this this team is having trouble with that.
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: Those things.
- 1:52:52Speaker 5: I mean, like he his meetings on Wednesdays, like the
- 1:52:57Speaker 5: first game plan meeting of the week, when he is
- 1:53:00Speaker 5: the entire team, he gives like a synopsis of the
- 1:53:04Speaker 5: entire organization of who they're playing, oh yeah, from the
- 1:53:07Speaker 5: owner on down, and he talks about the coaching staff
- 1:53:11Speaker 5: in their roots, like what systems their roots are in,
- 1:53:13Speaker 5: and all this kind of stuff to try to tell
- 1:53:16Speaker 5: the players, this is their offense, this is their these
- 1:53:19Speaker 5: are their staple plays, this is their bread and butter.
- 1:53:22Speaker 5: This is what we got to do to take away things,
- 1:53:24Speaker 5: and that I still don't think there's anybody better at that,
- 1:53:29Speaker 5: like of really knowing, you know, all the ins and
- 1:53:32Speaker 5: outs of all thirty two head coaches and all thirty
- 1:53:35Speaker 5: two offensive coordinators and defensive coordinators and being able to
- 1:53:38Speaker 5: then say like these are the three things that they're
- 1:53:41Speaker 5: gonna do to us, and if we can stop it,
- 1:53:43Speaker 5: then we're gonna be in good shape.
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: I thought it was funny. A couple of weeks ago
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: they asked him about the Commanders and he's like, oh,
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: I know, Preston Marshall on the team. And then he
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: you know, and like, you know, he went through the ownership,
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: you know, tree of the Commanders, just like off the
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: top of his head. This November, every Friday is like
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: Black Friday at Bob's Discount Furniture, and that means you
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: gets surprising unlocks every Friday of the month on top
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: of Bob's every day low prices. Shot Bob's Black Friday
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: Unlocks in store or online. Bob's Discount Furniture the official
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: furniture store of the New England Patriots. Yeah, Black Friday
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: is coming up. I can't wait for the video. It's
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: the football game, right, Yeah. I love the Yeah, they're
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: gonna have a first. Is that the first Friday game
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: they've ever done?
- 1:54:25Speaker 4: I think so?
- 1:54:26Speaker 14: Yeah?
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: I think so. Let's go to Eldred, North Carolina. What's
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: up Eldred?
- 1:54:33Speaker 9: Hey, fellas, how y'all doing it all right? Well? I'm
- 1:54:38Speaker 9: I'm gonna kind of piggyback off that other caller, the
- 1:54:41Speaker 9: last caller. It ain't dead. He's a bad coat. It's
- 1:54:45Speaker 9: just that.
- 1:54:46Speaker 15: Uh.
- 1:54:47Speaker 9: And I ain't gonna say he's the Personnail, you know,
- 1:54:50Speaker 9: don't reckon that. I think his his thing is it's
- 1:54:53Speaker 9: the money, you know, AJ Brown or AJ Green or whoever.
- 1:54:59Speaker 9: He won't pay that, and he thinks his system is it,
- 1:55:03Speaker 9: you know. And like like you said a long time ago,
- 1:55:06Speaker 9: I can get the top fifteen quarterback to run my system. Well,
- 1:55:09Speaker 9: they named Tom Brady. And I'll say this again every
- 1:55:13Speaker 9: time a great quarterback league, not the coach. It's five
- 1:55:17Speaker 9: to ten, maybe longer, but a team get back, reverent.
- 1:55:20Speaker 9: And like I said, the Cowboys Steelers forty nine ers,
- 1:55:25Speaker 9: you know, until you know, they start winning a little bit.
- 1:55:28Speaker 9: But the Cowboys adn't got back yet. He the Buffalo
- 1:55:31Speaker 9: did they have Minnesota, you know. So it's it's mainly
- 1:55:35Speaker 9: the player. Is that main quarterback, and that's Brady. I
- 1:55:40Speaker 9: know y'all won't give a Billy. I give a Billy
- 1:55:41Speaker 9: accolades too, But like I said before, Bill't not one
- 1:55:45Speaker 9: touchdown pass that a two minute drive and Brady But that's.
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: That I got. That's true.
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: I got a question for you. I got a question
- 1:55:53Speaker 4: for the old.
- 1:55:54Speaker 6: Is it a priority if they were to bring someone
- 1:55:55Speaker 6: new that somebody who wants to spend a lot of money, a.
- 1:56:01Speaker 9: Lot of money. I know you can't pay everybody, but
- 1:56:04Speaker 9: you need key person keep people in a certain position.
- 1:56:07Speaker 9: And I'm tired of everybody's saying we never had the people.
- 1:56:09Speaker 9: You had the people for the last four draft. They're
- 1:56:12Speaker 9: right there. He grabbed his people. You know they've been there.
- 1:56:15Speaker 9: You know, like they wanted a J. Brown, I want
- 1:56:17Speaker 9: a DK Metcalf. And I guarantee you if you got
- 1:56:20Speaker 9: DK Metcalf last year that Brady was there, Brady still
- 1:56:23Speaker 9: be playing now because he's just what he wanted NFL
- 1:56:26Speaker 9: wide receivers that can you know, make them plays. And
- 1:56:30Speaker 9: then if then have got digs, the wh diggs try
- 1:56:32Speaker 9: to get there, Brady still be playing, you know, until
- 1:56:36Speaker 9: he retired. But it been with being with the Patriots,
- 1:56:39Speaker 9: you had the greatest play of all Damn time.
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: Does it?
- 1:56:42Speaker 9: Does it hurt what he wants and he move out? Yeah,
- 1:56:44Speaker 9: that's all I gotta say.
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: Thanks, Aldred, all right, keep going, Mike, Well there, I
