Latest / He's Hot but Something's Off... / HHBSO 136: New Apple Products!
Transcript
- 0:02Hello, welcome to he's app, but something's off all right today
- 0:09I'm going to talk about all the products Apple announced this
- 0:14week. So over the past three days,
- 0:18Apple has been announcing new products every day Monday,
- 0:21Tuesday and Wednesday. And some of you know I'm a
- 0:24techie if not, you know now. So I'm very excited about some
- 0:30of the products Apple has announced.
- 0:32I've been doing a couple of posts on my Patreon with my
- 0:36Patreon subscribers. There's a link off to the side
- 0:39and down below. Join us over there is fun.
- 0:41If you want to join as a free member, there will be a few
- 0:44things you can partake in without paying any subscription
- 0:48fees. But I did a couple posts over
- 0:50there and there are some key products that I wanted to pick
- 0:55out and talk about from all the products that Apple announced.
- 0:58They announced like several different things.
- 1:00Some of them are like minor updates.
- 1:01Some of them are like brand new products.
- 1:04So 1 is a brand new product. The first thing I'm going to
- 1:07talk about is the biggest announcement that dropped
- 1:11Wednesday morning. It's the new MacBook Neo.
- 1:15So in the Apple world they've always had well over like the
- 1:20last several years they've had the MacBook Pro, which is like
- 1:23their high end, high performance laptop, which is meant for like
- 1:27professionals and media creators, people that need like
- 1:31a lot of horsepower. And then they also have the
- 1:35MacBook Air, which is their thin and light or kind of their
- 1:39mainstream laptop. OK, so that's the pro, the high
- 1:43performance one, the the big one, the expensive one.
- 1:48And they have the Air, which is like the thin and light one.
- 1:51So the MacBook Pro, it got a what's called a refresh, like
- 1:57they put a new chip or CPU in it.
- 2:00They bump the specs a little bit, but by and large it's
- 2:03mostly the same. And they did the same thing with
- 2:06the MacBook Air spec bump, new chip, you know, a couple of the
- 2:11numbers on the specs change, but same design, similar price.
- 2:17So those got little minor updates.
- 2:20But now there's this MacBook Neo, which is the entry level
- 2:24MacBook. It's going to sit below the
- 2:26MacBook Air and there have been a lot of rumors about it, as
- 2:30there usually are with upcoming new Apple products, and this is
- 2:34the one I'm the most excited about.
- 2:36O here are some of the numbers you need to know about it.
- 2:40It starts at 599, which is cheaper than I expected.
- 2:44On my Patreon, I was talking to one of my subscribers about, oh,
- 2:48this rumored entry level Mac laptop, how much it was going to
- 2:52cost, The rumors where that is going to start between 599 to
- 2:57799. And I thought, well, they just
- 3:00announced the entry level iPhone, a new entry level
- 3:03iPhone, which we're talking about for 599.
- 3:06I can't imagine Apple also launching a whole laptop that's
- 3:09the same price as the cheapest new iPhone.
- 3:12Also at 599, 799 was going to be like, you know what?
- 3:16That's too close to how much the MacBook Air is going to cost,
- 3:19which as of a few days ago that started at 999 and I was like,
- 3:23you know, 699 feels right, but 599 is the entry price for this
- 3:27brand new entry level MacBook Neo.
- 3:30Some of the specs and features is the 13 inch laptop and it's
- 3:35all aluminium. So all the other MacBook laptops
- 3:39for the last several years now have been all aluminium designs.
- 3:43And this new MacBook Neo is also all aluminum.
- 3:45It comes in four colours. So instead of just like a boring
- 3:49like silver and black you get, I forgot the exact they have all
- 3:53these I think they call it like indigo and lime.
- 3:56But basically there's like a a lime, a pink, a silver and a
- 4:02blue like a blue, grey, whatever the actual names are.
- 4:05I don't care the names that Apple gives all the all the
- 4:07different colours, but it's just as light as the MacBook Air as
- 4:122.7 lbs and it's got most of like the features that you would
- 4:19want in like a laptop that's kind of around that under $1000
- 4:23price point. It's got a similar keyboard to
- 4:26the MacBook Air. The trackpad is similar.
- 4:31It's not a haptic force feedback trackpad.
- 4:33It's like a physical clicky trackpad that you would probably
- 4:37expect out of most laptops out of this price.
- 4:39Obviously it's got like the latest Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and
- 4:41things like that. The screen is actually a pretty
- 4:44high resolution screen. It's pretty much the same
- 4:46resolution as the MacBook Air. You know, for someone who would
- 4:51use it for like everyday things, right?
- 4:54Web surfing even we have got several tabs open, students,
- 4:58people who are using it. Not for like, not for heavy duty
- 5:03photo or video editing, not for like heavy duty games.
- 5:06There are a lot of like mainstream users, I think where
- 5:10this Mac would make a lot of sense.
- 5:12And at that 599 price point, it's in very stiff competition
- 5:18because there are a lot of Windows laptops that start from
- 5:22like 5-6, seven, $100 on up. You know, if you wanted an entry
- 5:27level less expensive laptop for like 5 to $700, usually you
- 5:33would be looking at an entry level Windows laptop.
- 5:36You go into like a Best Buy or go on Amazon.
- 5:38There are quite a few Windows laptops you can buy for like 6
- 5:42or $700.00. And then you would also see
- 5:44Chromebooks at that price range, which is a laptop that only does
- 5:49Google Chrome and that doesn't do anything else.
- 5:51But usually Chromebooks are seen as like the least expensive way
- 5:54to get a laptop that deals that that you can kind of still we
- 5:58can't really install like the typical Windows programs on it.
- 6:01But usually Chromebooks, cheap ones will start at around like
- 6:05three, 5400. But they do have nicer premium
- 6:09Chromebooks that sometimes get to like the better part of
- 6:12$1000. There are some Chromebooks that
- 6:14are about $1000 like the really high end ones.
- 6:16Usually they're more for like business users.
- 6:19So it's a lot of competition in that range.
- 6:23And it's also a lot of consumers don't want to pay $1000 for a
- 6:27laptop and you've never really been able to get a brand new
- 6:31laptop from Apple for less than 1000.
- 6:33You can get some previous models.
- 6:35For example, Walmart was selling previous generation MacBook Air
- 6:39for as low as $600.00 as recently as like a few weeks
- 6:44ago. And you know, that's like
- 6:46probably a pretty good deal. But now we have this MacBook
- 6:48Neo. All right, I don't want to bore
- 6:51you guys to like all the specs, but let me tell you about what I
- 6:56think are like the pros and cons of this machine versus the other
- 6:59options and whether I recommend it or not, because I don't think
- 7:02my listeners are interested in like how fast the CPU is or like
- 7:06the tech specs. OK, So I think this machine is
- 7:11going to be great for people who are quote UN quote mainstream
- 7:15users. If you are not the type to be
- 7:18editing videos, you're not like a content creator, OK?
- 7:22You're just doing everyday things like web surfing, you
- 7:26know, your student, your home body, whatever.
- 7:29And you have a laptop already. You're used to using a laptop,
- 7:34but you're probably using like A3456 year old laptop.
- 7:38Maybe it's Windows or maybe like a really old Mac actually, or
- 7:41even a Chromebook. So you kind of prefer having an
- 7:43actual laptop, like a proper physical keyboard, a clamshell
- 7:48type laptop. You're not the type that's used
- 7:50to just like doing everything on a phone and you've been using a
- 7:56really old machine and you were thinking of like getting a new
- 7:58one. And you also are not married to
- 8:02Windows. There's some people I was
- 8:04talking to my Patreon, but someone it's like, oh, I'm used
- 8:07to running certain Windows only software, Windows only
- 8:10applications. If you're not using anything
- 8:12that needs Windows and you don't really care for Windows itself,
- 8:18you just need a cheap laptop that is like good qualities,
- 8:22that's going to be reliable, that's going to be dependable,
- 8:25that will last for like a few years.
- 8:27And your budget is in that six $700.00 range.
- 8:32I think this MacBook is probably the best value for someone who
- 8:36fits that profile or hassles requirements.
- 8:38And that's like huge amount of consumers that are like they
- 8:42don't want to spend anywhere near $1000 for a laptop.
- 8:44They just they don't have any demanding needs on a laptop.
- 8:48They want a proper trackpad, a proper keyboard.
- 8:51You know, a lot of what they do is web-based, is within a
- 8:54browser. They're not doing anything
- 8:56fancy, not playing any fancy games.
- 8:58They're not trying to like do any content creation.
- 9:01They don't really need Windows in the sense that they don't
- 9:05need to use any Windows specific applications.
- 9:09And they could buy a Windows machine, Windows laptop for six
- 9:13or $700.00. They can probably use a
- 9:15Chromebook honestly, but now they have this option for six or
- 9:19$700.00, this MacBook Neo. And the reason I would probably
- 9:22recommend someone go with a MacBook if that's the profile
- 9:27that they fit is the build quality is going to be better
- 9:31than anything else at that price range.
- 9:33Even though obviously it's not going to be the exact same level
- 9:37quality as like the MacBook Air. That's now over $1000 of the
- 9:40MacBook Pro, which is like the average MacBook Pro goes for
- 9:43like 2000 to $3000 to start honestly.
- 9:47But it's an all aluminum construction, which you'll
- 9:49really find at the six or $700.00 price point.
- 9:53I think the battery life is going to be pretty good.
- 9:55Apple laptops tend to be very power efficient over the last
- 9:59several years with the Apple chips that they develop in
- 10:02house. So the performance is not going
- 10:05to be as fast as those more expensive laptops that are like
- 10:08over $1000. But again, if you're not doing
- 10:11like heavy duty gaming, lots of video editing, specialized
- 10:15things like that, the performance is going to be fine.
- 10:18You're not going to be. It's not going to be any slower
- 10:21for sure than a equivalently priced Windows or Chromebook for
- 10:26sure. Like me knowing the technical
- 10:28specs and like what it's capable of, the performance will be fine
- 10:31as long as you're not trying to like edit the next whatever
- 10:34feature length movie on it. OK.
- 10:37I think the durability is going to be good.
- 10:39I think it's going to be a laptop that will easily last you
- 10:424 to 5 to 6 years because obviously physically it's like a
- 10:46unibody aluminum construction. It's going to be very durable.
- 10:50And Apple has a very good track record of putting out software
- 10:56updates and security updates for their laptops that are like 7-8,
- 11:02nine years old. So they have a very, very good
- 11:04track record of that. The other thing that would push
- 11:10me to recommend this over an equivalent Windows machine, it's
- 11:14Windows itself. OK, I have a Windows computer
- 11:17that I use as like a secondary machine, but I do interact with
- 11:19it like multiple times per week. Every week I go on to to do
- 11:23little things. Microsoft has made Windows so
- 11:27crappy over the years. OK, I don't know why everywhere
- 11:32you go in Windows 11. So I've got the latest version
- 11:34of Windows 11 by the way. So this is like the same version
- 11:37of Windows you would get if you go buy a Windows laptop or any
- 11:40Windows machine. Windows 11.
- 11:42Microsoft puts so many ads into Windows, even though it's not
- 11:48like some free trial version of Windows.
- 11:50I've I, I pay full price for Windows.
- 11:52I pay full price for that Windows computer.
- 11:54It serves me ads like everywhere.
- 11:57It's like it always nudges me to like, use this Microsoft thing
- 12:00or do that Microsoft thing. It's like, I don't want all this
- 12:04shit popping up on a computer I've spent several 100 or even
- 12:08over $1000 on. OK, obviously Apple is not
- 12:13completely immune to this. If you buy a new iPhone or a new
- 12:17MacBook, there are like some subtle things that will nudge
- 12:21you to like sign for some Apple services, but they're very
- 12:25subtle and like they don't keep popping up all the time.
- 12:29OK, I've got like 2. I've got a Mac laptop that I'm
- 12:32on right now. I've got a Mac desktop that I do
- 12:35on my heavy duty, like podcast and video editing on.
- 12:38And that's like the bulk. That's my work machine
- 12:39basically. And I've got an iPad and I've
- 12:42got an iPhone. You know, the amount of
- 12:47advertising and the amount of plugging that Microsoft does
- 12:50within Windows for a computer you pay full price for already,
- 12:54It's ridiculous. Like even on the lock screen,
- 12:56it's pushing all these ads in the Start menu, It's pushing all
- 12:59this shit within the web browser.
- 13:02Like if you're using Microsoft Edge, it's like there's so many
- 13:04ads. And if I wasn't paying money for
- 13:06Windows, if I did just drop like $800 on a entire Windows
- 13:09computer, it'd be like fine, OK, maybe it's just like some ad
- 13:13supported lower priced version. But no, you buy the full price
- 13:15version of Windows. Even if you pay $2000 for like a
- 13:18really nice Windows machine, it's still the same version of
- 13:20Windows that's serving you all these ads.
- 13:22So Microsoft is on my shit list because of that.
- 13:25Like they pushed so many ads and on Mac OS you don't get that.
- 13:31So that's for me one big reason to not use Windows.
- 13:34Unless you have to use Windows for some reason, you use some
- 13:37Windows specific software that only works on Windows, which
- 13:40over the years that's like less and less the case.
- 13:42Now, I don't recommend Windows to the average user unless you
- 13:46are so used to Windows you really don't want to try to use
- 13:49anything else. So that's the first way.
- 13:52The second thing is a Mac just works better to unlock a Mac.
- 13:57Like if your laptop's been sitting there, let's say your
- 13:59Windows laptop, you know, it's been sitting there the whole day
- 14:02while you've been at work. OK, you come home and you just
- 14:05want to like, open up your Windows laptop to, like, do
- 14:07whatever. Start using it.
- 14:09Sounds like a little thing, but the speed in which a Mac laptop,
- 14:13like, just snaps awake instantly and unlocks instantly when you
- 14:18put your finger on the fingerprint reader.
- 14:21You get so used to it that if you switch back and forth
- 14:25between a Windows laptop on the Mac laptop, you're like, oh, the
- 14:28Windows laptop feels kind of clunky.
- 14:31Even just little things like that.
- 14:32Doesn't sound like a big deal to wait an extra few seconds when
- 14:35you open the laptop. And it doesn't sound like a big
- 14:37deal to, like, have it take an extra few seconds to unlock
- 14:41until you get used to it. You know, people like I lock and
- 14:46unlock my laptop multiple times a day, and you just get so used
- 14:49to that, too. If I were to use the Windows
- 14:51laptop, it just feels like, OK, this feels a little ancient.
- 14:54Why is it taking an extra 5 seconds to wake up when my Mac
- 14:56wakes up instantly every time, reliably over many years?
- 15:00Because I've used multiple Mac laptops over the last 15 years
- 15:03and they all do that. So just little refinements that
- 15:06it just feels like a higher quality, more thought out piece
- 15:11of equipment. Touch ID, you can get it on the
- 15:15MacBook Neo, but you have to get the more expensive trim.
- 15:19So there's two versions of the MacBook Neo you can get.
- 15:22The base model is 599. It does not have Touch ID, which
- 15:28is the fingerprint reader. You can get the 699 upgraded
- 15:31version. That's the only other version
- 15:33that's available. So you get more storage, 256
- 15:36gigs versus 512. So you double that and you get
- 15:41the fingerprint reader. It's 8 gigs of RAM for both
- 15:43versions. You don't get options there, but
- 15:46I would spring for that 699 version for the extra storage
- 15:50and also to get the Touch ID. Yeah.
- 15:53So without going to like lots of specs, I think if you're somehow
- 15:56in the market for an inexpensive laptop and you're not like
- 16:04drawing to the hip of Windows, you're not like so gung ho about
- 16:08Windows that you would not consider a different platform
- 16:12that. I actually think at the 599 or
- 16:15699 price point, you should just get this MacBook Neo.
- 16:18It's a really great value and some of the reasons that the
- 16:24MacBook is going to be better, some of those things are
- 16:28intangible and you just have to trust me.
- 16:30Just that the smoothness of the whole experience of just like
- 16:33these little things like how quickly the machine wakes up,
- 16:36how quickly it unlocks, how fluid you know it is to navigate
- 16:40the interface. These are things that are hard
- 16:43to sell to someone, but go into an Apple Store or like go into a
- 16:47Best Buy, whatever and just like use it a little bit and then you
- 16:49realize it. It just makes your life easier.
- 16:52You know, sometimes these like tiny little intangible things.
- 16:54It's not really like a headline selling feature, but like when
- 16:58you just need a laptop that works, it's like got good
- 17:00battery life consistently. It reliably wakes up the
- 17:04updating process like very smooth.
- 17:06It doesn't like throw ads at you like Windows does.
- 17:09Everything just kind of works. Sometimes that's all you want,
- 17:11you know, like with cars you can get like a fancy car that's
- 17:15like, you know, some like fancy Rolls Royce or Porsche or
- 17:18whatever and it's like really great performance, yes, but
- 17:20sometimes you just want something that like works all
- 17:22the time, something each one of the appliance.
- 17:24And at this price point for a laptop that's maybe like the
- 17:28higher praise, it's like it's like super reliable.
- 17:32And I think that's sometimes the best luxury at all.
- 17:36It's something you don't need to think about too much, something
- 17:38that doesn't get in your way for this price point.
- 17:40It also looks great. It comes in all these different
- 17:42colours. It's like all aluminium.
- 17:43So it's like a really kind of like premium feel for this price
- 17:47point. So I think it's great.
- 17:49I'm obviously biased because I'm more I'm much more in the Apple
- 17:52ecosystem than like the Windows, but I still use Windows and I
- 17:54still have an Android phone that I use.
- 17:56So that's why I think this is actually this is this is Apple
- 18:02really flexing it's muscles in terms of like the supply chain,
- 18:05how much it can drive down the price of something, but still
- 18:08kind of bringing that Apple design that is known for.
- 18:11So I'm keeping a very close eye on house how much of A sales and
- 18:16commercial success this is, but not having used it myself, but
- 18:20everything I know about it at this price point, I think this
- 18:25is like this is going to this is a great value for sure.
- 18:29And I trust Apple enough that Apple doesn't really put out
- 18:33products that are like bad quality.
- 18:35Honestly, it's one of the things about Apple is it's it's very
- 18:40rare for them to put out a product where like the physical
- 18:43engineering quality is not very good or like the way it's been
- 18:47constructed and manufactured isn't very good.
- 18:49Apple doesn't really do that. And part of Apple having that's
- 18:54kind of more premium brand image is because of like, you know, at
- 18:57least the construction and the engineering is usually above
- 19:00average. OK, now that I've stopped
- 19:03gushing about the laptop, I'm a laptop person.
- 19:05So like, even though I don't think I'm the target demographic
- 19:10for this machine, I think this machine would just be great for
- 19:14like the 90% of people that want a laptop, but they don't.
- 19:20They're not power users. This is just such great value.
- 19:23So I'm very excited to see how it how commercially successful
- 19:28or not it becomes because I think it's great value.
- 19:31All right, the next product I want to talk about is the iPhone
- 19:3717 E OK? The E is the key part in the
- 19:42name of that particular product. So there's the iPhone Pro and
- 19:47Pro Max, which are big sellers. You see them all the time,
- 19:51especially the iPhone 7 Pro and Pro Max, the newest version with
- 19:55that gigantic rectangular camera bar on the back.
- 19:58You'll you'll see that you have been seeing that out and about
- 20:02over the last few months in all sorts of places where there are
- 20:05people. And then there's also the
- 20:07regular iPhone 17. Not the Pro, just the regular 17
- 20:11Pro. Sorry, the regular iPhone 17,
- 20:13not the Pro. And that's kind of like the the
- 20:17mainstream version, like the Pro and Pro Max is like the high end
- 20:20top of the line iPhone models. You have the ones that are the
- 20:24not pros. That's like the regular version.
- 20:27It's cheaper, but honestly it does most of what most people
- 20:32need it. But people tend to just buy the
- 20:34Pro because reasons. The 17 E is the entry level
- 20:39iPhone. It doesn't get a lot of fanfare
- 20:42because a lot of them advertising budget goes to the
- 20:4617 Pro or Pro Max, but those are the highest profit margins for
- 20:49Apple. And people don't seem to have a
- 20:51problem paying $1000, fifteen, $100 for the high end stuff for
- 20:55the iPhones. But the 17 E is notable because
- 20:58it's 599. It's the entry level version of
- 21:01the iPhone. It replaced the 16 E, which was
- 21:05last year's entry level version of the iPhone and there's not
- 21:09really anything earth shattering about it.
- 21:12But I bring it up because for a lot of people that don't want to
- 21:19spend like 1000 dollars, 1200 dollars, $1500 for a new phone,
- 21:25for example, David, he doesn't take a lot of photos.
- 21:30So having like all these fancy cameras, like it's he doesn't
- 21:34really use them and he does a lot of work on his phone.
- 21:38He does and he doesn't really have like a laptop.
- 21:40A lot of times when he's like visiting me and he's doing some
- 21:44like work thing, anything, a lot of things that I would just
- 21:47reach for my laptop, I wouldn't even attempt on a phone.
- 21:49He does on the phone, actually. Yeah.
- 21:51But if you don't want to spend $1000 on the phone, you just
- 21:55want something super reliable, the iPhone isn't the only
- 21:58option, but if you're used to the iPhone, you're not
- 22:01entertaining Android, but you don't want to spend $1000 and
- 22:06you don't really need the fancy cameras.
- 22:10You know, you don't need like the Super high end features.
- 22:13Give the 17 EA look and it's not going to be, it's not going to
- 22:19blow your socks off. It's an entry level, entry level
- 22:22model. It's not going to blow your
- 22:23socks off. But I mention it because it
- 22:26really is in the shadow of the iPhone Pros and Pro Maxes of the
- 22:30world. But I think it's actually a
- 22:33good, decent phone for someone who doesn't have, you know,
- 22:37super high demands of their phone.
- 22:40If you do take lots of like selfies and lots of photos and a
- 22:43lot of people do. Yeah.
- 22:44You know, one of the more expensive iPhones with the
- 22:47better cameras, you would see an advantage out of that,
- 22:49especially with like the new selfie camera on like the more
- 22:52expensive seventeens. But the 17 E for like 599, you
- 22:57know, it's actually a pretty good value.
- 22:59They didn't you know it. It's not some massive redesign
- 23:03for the 17 E that they just announced, but it did gain a
- 23:06couple of notable features. It now has Magsafe.
- 23:09So if you use any of the iPhones from the last few years,
- 23:12Magsafe, it's basically magnet. They have a magnet on the back
- 23:16of the phone, but using the magnetic accessory of the
- 23:20Magsafe accessories is like low key life changing.
- 23:24And like once you get used to Magsafe and having things
- 23:28magnetically snap onto the back of the phone, whether that's
- 23:31like a Magsafe wallet, a magnetic charger, or like other
- 23:35things you can do with it, it's hard to go back to a phone that
- 23:39doesn't have the magnets, that doesn't have Magsafe.
- 23:42Last year's 16 E did not have Magsafe.
- 23:44The 70 E now does. So that's something that you're
- 23:49going to kind of notice right away.
- 23:51It is, to be honest. It is otherwise not like an
- 23:54earth shattering update is pretty similar to the 16 E, but
- 23:58I just want to give it its dues because it's really good value.
- 24:02And for someone you maybe your current phone, you have an older
- 24:07iPhone, it's kind of on it's last legs.
- 24:09The battery's starting to wear and not really hold a charge
- 24:12that well anymore. Maybe it's like 6 or 7 years
- 24:15old. I have a iPhone 12 mini.
- 24:17That's my backup phone. I travel enough that having a
- 24:21backup phone is very essential. But one year I did lose my phone
- 24:25when I went to EDC in Vegas and I didn't have a backup phone and
- 24:28it was like it was not a good time.
- 24:32I had to go emergency buy a burner phone from Best Buy in
- 24:36the middle of my vacation. Not good.
- 24:38Anyways. And even that iPhone 12 mini, I
- 24:42think it's, it's like 5 or 6 years old now because I don't
- 24:46use it that much. The battery on it is still
- 24:49pretty decent. If I have been using that phone
- 24:51all day every day as my regular phone, I'm sure the battery
- 24:54would be really worn out by now and the battery life would not
- 24:58be as good as when it was new. But a lot of people probably
- 25:03don't need $1000 phone. I think a lot of people think
- 25:07they need a nice phone, but you know, just take a look at it.
- 25:11If if you don't take a lot of photos, you don't play a lot of
- 25:14games on your phone, you're not you don't shoot tons of videos.
- 25:16You're not like a YouTube like me.
- 25:20Take a look. Some of the less expensive
- 25:22iPhones and iPhone 17 E because it does have the Magsafe.
- 25:26Now it's going to be for maybe like the average iPhone user.
- 25:33If you are holding the 17 E in one hand that cost 599 and then
- 25:37you hold an iPhone 17 Pro in the other hand that starts at like
- 25:41what, $1000 like 1100 or something, you might have a bit
- 25:46of a trouble convincing yourself that the 17 Pro is worth the
- 25:52extra $500. It's not going to be for
- 25:55everyone, but I would say unless you really need the cameras,
- 26:01take a look at the 17 E all right.
- 26:04I quickly mentioned the MacBook Pro got a spec bump, nothing
- 26:07earth shattering. The MacBook Air got a spec bump,
- 26:10nothing earth shattering. Honestly, the MacBook neo is
- 26:13like the really big news. This Ivan 17 E is also not like
- 26:17anything revolutionary, but I just want to point it out there
- 26:20because I feel like it it's it's a bit underrated and I think a
- 26:25lot of people should give it consideration because it is
- 26:28actually really good value. The only other brand new thing
- 26:32kind of that Apple announced, and I don't think it's relevant
- 26:35for a lot of people, though they released some new monitors and
- 26:40they're called the Studio Display and the Studio Display
- 26:43XDR. I'm actually not going to talk
- 26:46about them because I think they're crap value.
- 26:50Apple sometimes does monitors on and off through Apple's
- 26:53history's debate monitors. So these Studio displays is an
- 26:57updated 1. They did sell a monitor called
- 27:00the Studio Display before, and they also sold a high end
- 27:05monitor called the Pro Display. The Pro Display is now
- 27:09discontinued and the two new models, the Studio Display, the
- 27:13Studio Display XDR are the only monitors that Apple now sells.
- 27:18They are very expensive for what they are.
- 27:21So it's a 727 inch for both of them.
- 27:25They are 4K. It's a 5K resolution, 5K.
- 27:29It's actually pretty high 5K resolution.
- 27:32The base one, the student display, it's got like
- 27:34Thunderbolt and USBC, It's got a webcam, it's got some stuff.
- 27:38It's not just a monitor, it's got speakers, a webcam.
- 27:40It's got like it can charge your MacBook or your laptop.
- 27:43You plug it in. 5K resolution is quite high.
- 27:46Obviously the screen itself is actually going to be very high
- 27:48quality. Apple always does very high
- 27:51quality screens in terms of like the image quality, in terms of
- 27:54like the brightness and the contrast.
- 27:56So that is where it is going to be more premium maybe then like
- 27:59your average 5K monitor, it's like half the price.
- 28:03And then you have to higher institute with display XDR.
- 28:06It's like higher refresh mini OED, blah, blah.
- 28:09I don't think any of you are going to be interested in any of
- 28:11that. I wouldn't actually even
- 28:13recommend most people buy it unless you're like a hardcore
- 28:15Apple fan. So you heard about, oh, Apple
- 28:18has these like fancy looking monitors.
- 28:21Joey, is this something I should be looking at?
- 28:23I think the people that are techies and know what they're
- 28:28getting into with these monitors, I think those are
- 28:34maybe one of the few people that are suitable to buy those
- 28:36monitors. But even as a techie, like
- 28:41they're not good value. Like in terms of like the amount
- 28:43of money, how much they cost and what you're getting.
- 28:46They're good quality monitors. I can tell you that even though
- 28:49I haven't used them like I have enough trust that these are
- 28:53going to be very high quality monitors with great image
- 28:55quality, excellent brightness, excellent contrast.
- 28:59The picture quality is just going to be outstanding.
- 29:01I can already tell you that. Is it a good value?
- 29:03No. So if you're like, oh, I heard
- 29:05Apple release some new monitors, Joey, is this something I should
- 29:08buy? No, you should not buy them.
- 29:11Just not good value and you know, there are so they're like
- 29:15Samsung and LG and like view Sonic and like there's all these
- 29:19other companies out there making monitors that for the 99% of
- 29:25people it's going to be just as good and more than good enough
- 29:30for what they need a external monitor for, for way cheaper.
- 29:33Do you really need a webcam built into your monitor?
- 29:37Not really. You know, there are 27 inch 5K
- 29:40monitors out there for like hundreds of dollars less where
- 29:44the image quality is still excellent that you're not paying
- 29:48the Apple tax. You know, I talked about the
- 29:51MacBook Neo, that new entry level MacBook being a really
- 29:54great value and it's like great construction.
- 29:57It's going to be like more than speedy enough for its intended
- 30:01user. You know, it's got like you're
- 30:04not really paying an Apple tax with that.
- 30:06Like that's actually such a great value.
- 30:08Like Apple could have bumped it bumped those prices by another
- 30:12$100 and I would still be recommending it as a great
- 30:14value. And then the iPhone 17 E, the
- 30:17entry level iPhone that I said is not going to blow your socks
- 30:21off, nothing revolutionary, but for 599 for a brand new iPhone,
- 30:25it's going to do most of what people want or need from an
- 30:30iPhone short of like super high quality cameras and like an
- 30:36extra large battery, which, you know, a lot of people would love
- 30:39a bigger battery and longer battery life.
- 30:40But you know, for it's actually pretty decent phone, it's pretty
- 30:43good value 599 for like a brand new iPhone.
- 30:46But to pay like, I don't know, 1500 or $2000 for a 27 inch 5K
- 30:52monitor, you're that's a heavy Apple tax, no doubt is a great
- 30:57monitor. These are great monitors.
- 30:59It's just too expensive. It's just not a good value.
- 31:01So this is not a tech podcast. I know you guys listening are
- 31:05just like not in a shady way. You guys are not techies and you
- 31:10guys are not like, you know, for the average consumer, which you
- 31:15guys are listeners of this podcast.
- 31:18Don't feel like you need to go. Don't be interested in those
- 31:22monitors. Don't don't need to worry about
- 31:24them basically so well, I guess I just talked 5 minutes about
- 31:28those monitors anyways. Well, I know this is a slightly
- 31:31different podcast that we're doing today and you guys don't
- 31:35like it when I talk about tech Formula One.
- 31:38I think some of you guys can appreciate the tech stuff, but
- 31:41the tech stuff I talk about is tech that's for like the average
- 31:44consumer, like a 599 iPhone is for like the average person is
- 31:48not aimed for like some super niche power user that's geeking
- 31:53out over tech and A599699 MacBook.
- 31:58It's for like your your college students, like your average
- 32:02mainstream laptop users. So I think a lot of you guys
- 32:05would be interested for like a laptop, a brand new laptop
- 32:09that's like in that price range, which I think it's going to be
- 32:11incredible value. But the monitors are just no, I
- 32:15don't know. I don't know how they can charge
- 32:17so much for those monitors, but price the laptop that cheap.
- 32:20Like the value proposition is just so crazy different between
- 32:23those two things. Obviously, these monitors are
- 32:26not meant for the average consumer.
- 32:28So the Apple tax is really heavy for that one.
- 32:31I would love to hear from you guys.
- 32:32Are you guys interested in this new MacBook Neo?
- 32:37It's kind of sort of uncharted territory.
- 32:40Apple has never tried to play in these in the in this price range
- 32:44for a laptop. Even going back to maybe if you
- 32:48went back 20 something years ago when they had the ibook that you
- 32:54know, like just around the turn of the million, like in the
- 32:56early 2000s, they had those Apple iBooks that had all the
- 33:02funky colors like the tangerine color, that orange and where
- 33:06it's like this like plastic shell had this like rounded kind
- 33:10of pebbly design. That's the last time that Apple
- 33:14tried to go for like a lower cost consumer friendly kind of
- 33:19fun design with different colors, entry level laptop.
- 33:23Since they did that ibook like something like 20 plus years
- 33:27ago, they've not tried to go to that low end of the laptop
- 33:32market. So they're returning back.
- 33:34So that's why I'm so excited about this particular machine
- 33:37because I think it's going to be it's really great value and I'm
- 33:40really interested to see how it does.
- 33:42Let me know what your thoughts are on any of the things that
- 33:44Apple announced. I already talked to a couple of
- 33:46you on my Patreon that you guys were kind of a couple of you
- 33:49were interested in, like this potential new entry level
- 33:54MacBook. So put your thoughts down on my
- 33:56page chart you're watching from there or down in the YouTube
- 33:58comments below if you're watching from YouTube.
- 34:00And until next time, bye y'all.
