Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: Blay Angel fans and welcome back to Halo territory. I
- 0:11Speaker 1: am Mike D. Giovanna, former La Times Baseball writer and
- 0:14Speaker 1: host of the show, joined by my regular co host
- 0:17Speaker 1: Mark Trumbo, the former Angel slugger, and Sam Blum of
- 0:21Speaker 1: The Athletic, one of our regular HT contributors. Thanks for
- 0:26Speaker 1: joining us, guys. We'll get right to the big news
- 0:28Speaker 1: over the weekend. Perry Manassian fired as general manager. John
- 0:34Speaker 1: mozay Loock got to pronounce that right, hired as interim GM,
- 0:38Speaker 1: the former Saint Louis Cardinals president of baseball operations, and
- 0:43Speaker 1: Molly Jolly, the new team president. Here's to have a
- 0:47Speaker 1: huge hand in these moves. Let's just start with a
- 0:49Speaker 1: general reaction. Guys, Sam, what was your reaction when you
- 0:53Speaker 1: heard this?
- 0:55Speaker 2: Well, it was a little shocked. I mean it shouldn't
- 0:57Speaker 2: be shocking, right, I mean, this is a GM who's
- 1:00Speaker 2: not succeeded in any capacity, right, it shouldn't shock you
- 1:03Speaker 2: any But I mean, just the Angels making this move
- 1:07Speaker 2: was the right move. You know, I think you're heading
- 1:10Speaker 2: into the draft, you're heading into the trade deadline. These
- 1:13Speaker 2: are you know, two areas where I think Perry has
- 1:16Speaker 2: done quite poorly, so, you you know, and I give
- 1:18Speaker 2: credit to Molly Jolly. I know that's the narrative the
- 1:20Speaker 2: Angels are selling right now is that this was completely
- 1:22Speaker 2: her decision and her move, and that John Moseylock has
- 1:26Speaker 2: not even had a conversation with Ardy Marine. I you know,
- 1:29Speaker 2: it's hard to believe. I'll take them at their word
- 1:32Speaker 2: for it for now. I can't imagine they already wouldn't
- 1:35Speaker 2: have a significant hand in these types of decisions. But
- 1:38Speaker 2: this was the right This was the right call. Perry
- 1:39Speaker 2: wasn't It wasn't not a good general manager, didn't, you know,
- 1:42Speaker 2: didn't I don't think had a great grasp of the organization,
- 1:45Speaker 2: the people that worked in it. Don't think the communication
- 1:48Speaker 2: was strong. Don't think the uh, you know, obviously the
- 1:51Speaker 2: results on the field weren't good. That it's you know,
- 1:53Speaker 2: the signings, the DFAs, the everything.
- 1:56Speaker 1: It just wasn't.
- 1:57Speaker 2: It wasn't working out. The record was three hundred and
- 2:01Speaker 2: ninety two and five hundred, So I don't need to
- 2:03Speaker 2: kind of depend my point there. That kind of does
- 2:05Speaker 2: it for me. And you know, I know everyone kind
- 2:08Speaker 2: of says, oh you got a tough break. It was
- 2:10Speaker 2: you know, already's this, that, and the other. He's the
- 2:11Speaker 2: guy that makes his life so hard. I think two
- 2:14Speaker 2: things can be true. That is true, right, But what's
- 2:16Speaker 2: also true is the area is where I think Perry
- 2:19Speaker 2: could have done well. He didn't, and you know, you
- 2:22Speaker 2: saw a time and again, and I think they could
- 2:25Speaker 2: have been a better team over these last five and
- 2:27Speaker 2: a half years with or without already with you know,
- 2:29Speaker 2: but with Perry, it just wasn't meant to be, and
- 2:31Speaker 2: I don't think it was getting any better anytime soon.
- 2:33Speaker 2: So they hired someone who, in my opinion, sounds like
- 2:36Speaker 2: a real baseball person, someone who's had success. You know,
- 2:39Speaker 2: I'll reserve kind of judgment on the overall outcome until
- 2:41Speaker 2: we kind of see a streamlined, you know, strategy here.
- 2:45Speaker 2: But I was impressed by his press conference because it
- 2:47Speaker 2: just felt like, for the first time in forever that
- 2:50Speaker 2: I had heard somebody with the Angels that didn't sound
- 2:53Speaker 2: like they were terrified of you know, arty or getting
- 2:56Speaker 2: in trouble. It just kind of like said what they
- 2:58Speaker 2: were thinking, and we're being real toively honest to some extent,
- 3:01Speaker 2: and you know, it just it didn't feel like someone
- 3:03Speaker 2: who was stepping on egshields with every single word, and
- 3:06Speaker 2: you know where what does that translate to? We'll find out.
- 3:08Speaker 2: But you know, overall a positive first day.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I felt like, Yeah, I wasn't shocked by the move.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I honestly I thought Perry should have been fired after
- 3:18Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, could have easily been fired after twenty
- 3:21Speaker 1: twenty five. The timing of it, to me, was a
- 3:25Speaker 1: little surprising in that we're a little more than two
- 3:27Speaker 1: weeks away from the draft. Angels had the twelfth overall pick,
- 3:31Speaker 1: I believe, pretty big deal, and what five weeks now
- 3:35Speaker 1: ahead of the trade deadline? I think this is going
- 3:38Speaker 1: to pose some serious challenges for well, let's just call
- 3:42Speaker 1: him Mo because you know, his last name is tough
- 3:46Speaker 1: to remember exactly how to pronounce it. You know, is
- 3:49Speaker 1: he going to have enough time to do a thorough
- 3:52Speaker 1: enough analysis of this farm system of the major league
- 3:56Speaker 1: team to one? You know, apparently he's not going to
- 3:59Speaker 1: have much input on the draft, And I think that's great.
- 4:02Speaker 1: The scouting director should do the draft. But is he
- 4:05Speaker 1: is gonna have enough time to figure out whether this
- 4:09Speaker 1: team should sell some of its assets before the trade
- 4:13Speaker 1: deadline and look to start a serious rebuilding process, which
- 4:17Speaker 1: just has not happened ever. I don't know, five weeks
- 4:24Speaker 1: it's gonna be a cram course for him. But this
- 4:27Speaker 1: is an established guy. You know, he was eighteen years
- 4:31Speaker 1: as head of baseball operations for the Cardinals, who enjoyed
- 4:33Speaker 1: a ton of success. Help rebuild that farm system, proven
- 4:37Speaker 1: track record. Maybe you know, if anybody can do it,
- 4:41Speaker 1: maybe this is the guy to do it.
- 4:43Speaker 3: What do you think, Mark, He's got the resume, he's
- 4:46Speaker 3: got the experience. I think why I enjoyed listening to him.
- 4:50Speaker 3: That's a baseball man talking. That's somebody who's done it
- 4:53Speaker 3: for a long time. He's had success, and he knows
- 4:56Speaker 3: what it looks like. He knows what a good ballplayer,
- 5:01Speaker 3: you know. Just he doesn't need to do a ton
- 5:03Speaker 3: of research to know what talent is or is not.
- 5:06Speaker 3: I think in the recent years, especially, keep hearing or
- 5:11Speaker 3: heard the narrative that it's about the makeup, it's about
- 5:14Speaker 3: the character, And I'm really wondering that must have been
- 5:19Speaker 3: what got him the job in the first place. Talking
- 5:21Speaker 3: about Perry, he beat out some very qualified other candidates
- 5:25Speaker 3: when I was looking at who else at the time
- 5:28Speaker 3: was interested in the job. Justin Hollander of the Mariners.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Jason McLeod going to take a stab at that, and
- 5:34Speaker 3: Emil said, why two tough names there, But those guys
- 5:39Speaker 3: are both very highly esteemed and all three of them,
- 5:44Speaker 3: and I know Justin Hollander from my time with the Angels.
- 5:46Speaker 3: So whatever Perry said initially he got hired, you must
- 5:49Speaker 3: have really made an impression. I think a lot of
- 5:51Speaker 3: it had to do with his scouting background, his connections.
- 5:56Speaker 3: We've heard that he's very connected. You know this because
- 5:58Speaker 3: he came up in the clubhouse, likes to talk about
- 6:01Speaker 3: his days doing that. I the big takeaway for me
- 6:06Speaker 3: is he the combatative nature to the press adversarial. I
- 6:12Speaker 3: don't think he ever really conveyed to the fans what
- 6:14Speaker 3: he was attempting to do the draft and rush, and
- 6:21Speaker 3: that can be argued, sure, but I would be looking
- 6:24Speaker 3: for the most talented ballplayer with a solid makeup, not
- 6:29Speaker 3: the most solid makeup with you know that taking precedent
- 6:33Speaker 3: over the talent. I do know from hearing from enough
- 6:35Speaker 3: people to be confident in saying Perry made the entirety
- 6:39Speaker 3: of the draft selections and the free agents signings. Beyond that,
- 6:44Speaker 3: no need to speculate more. Apparently he was very heavy
- 6:48Speaker 3: handed and the selections were his. So, for better or worse,
- 6:52Speaker 3: some of these things take time. You got to look
- 6:54Speaker 3: at him down the road three four years. But the
- 6:57Speaker 3: guys he selected, you know, they've most of them have
- 7:00Speaker 3: done all right. Nolan Shaanawell is up there. Uh. You
- 7:05Speaker 3: know who else could have the Giants? Eldridge, Uh, Price Eldridge. Yeah,
- 7:12Speaker 3: he was taking a few picks after Nolan. We'll see
- 7:15Speaker 3: how that ages. You don't know, he was a high
- 7:17Speaker 3: school kid. Takes longer to develop Billy Eppler, Lean Moore
- 7:20Speaker 3: into high school picks.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Uh.
- 7:22Speaker 3: He also had some of the massive free agent signings
- 7:24Speaker 3: that may have been the owner, especially with Rendon. So
- 7:28Speaker 3: any GM eventually will be shown the door. What legacy
- 7:32Speaker 3: has Perry left, Well, you guys can decide.
- 7:37Speaker 1: What I like about this move is Moe was You know,
- 7:41Speaker 1: he got to start. He's a scouting director at the
- 7:43Speaker 1: Cardinals help rebuild their farm system and obviously has a lengthy,
- 7:48Speaker 1: extensive experience as a president of baseball operations for the
- 7:51Speaker 1: big league clubs. So he's got a full knowledge of
- 7:54Speaker 1: every level of the organization. You know there is some Yeah,
- 7:58Speaker 1: we were asking them at the press commence if there's
- 8:00Speaker 1: any way he would remain full time, and he kind
- 8:02Speaker 1: of left a little crack in the door, so you
- 8:05Speaker 1: never know. I can certainly if he really has a
- 8:07Speaker 1: really positive experience here and things are moving in the
- 8:11Speaker 1: right direction, I can see him sort of staying on
- 8:13Speaker 1: as a as a a baseball consultant. Maybe they bring
- 8:17Speaker 1: on a GM and he sticks as president of baseball operations,
- 8:22Speaker 1: sort of mirroring the hierarchy of many teams right now,
- 8:25Speaker 1: including the Dodgers with Andrew Friedman and Brandon Gomes. H.
- 8:30Speaker 1: We'll see. But as you said, Mark, this is a
- 8:33Speaker 1: baseball guy, not saying Perry wasn't, but I think his
- 8:37Speaker 1: background is far more expensive his experiences and has proven
- 8:41Speaker 1: as a winner. I think that's big for the Angels. Sam,
- 8:46Speaker 1: we talked about the timing of this move. You know,
- 8:49Speaker 1: the next couple of weeks are going to be huge
- 8:51Speaker 1: for this team, for this team's immediate and long term future.
- 8:56Speaker 1: What do you think the challenges are for him right now?
- 9:00Speaker 2: At the draft I thought is interesting. I mean, Perry
- 9:03Speaker 2: making all the selections. I've heard the same right and
- 9:06Speaker 2: you know I heard it even just last week at
- 9:09Speaker 2: the combine. I mean, he was Perry's there and doing
- 9:12Speaker 2: the interviews and stuff. So you know, ultimately, I think
- 9:15Speaker 2: it's good to have Tim mcklevain, which it sounds like
- 9:18Speaker 2: that's gonna be the guy who's you know, should have
- 9:20Speaker 2: been doing this all along and has the you know,
- 9:22Speaker 2: requisite background to do the job well, you know, assuming
- 9:26Speaker 2: he's in position to you know, make you know, strong selections. Hopefully,
- 9:30Speaker 2: you know, hopefully he does. Again, there's so many clues
- 9:33Speaker 2: yet that will be uncovered, I think in the draft,
- 9:35Speaker 2: in at the trade deadline, like are we going to
- 9:37Speaker 2: see you know, all the college players taken again? Which
- 9:40Speaker 2: has almost been a universal strategy for the Angels. I mean,
- 9:42Speaker 2: you take very few high school players and usually in
- 9:45Speaker 2: strategic late round overslought positions, like are they gonna do
- 9:48Speaker 2: that exact same thing? Because if that's what they do,
- 9:50Speaker 2: maybe that was just an RD decision. Ultimately all around,
- 9:53Speaker 2: you know, when you get to the trade deadline they
- 9:54Speaker 2: can hold on to all these players. I mean, I
- 9:56Speaker 2: think we'll find out then what kind of impact Moseailac
- 10:00Speaker 2: actually can have here. So yeah, I mean he's he's
- 10:04Speaker 2: got some decisions to make. But I think you know
- 10:06Speaker 2: this has been a few weeks in the making. I
- 10:08Speaker 2: would imagine he's done at least some baseline research into
- 10:11Speaker 2: what he's getting himself into and the people that he
- 10:13Speaker 2: has involved, you know, with his club, and he's got
- 10:16Speaker 2: a month now to you know, trade deadline.
- 10:18Speaker 5: I believe he was a little.
- 10:18Speaker 2: After I think it's August third, so he's got he's
- 10:21Speaker 2: got some time. So we'll see, you know. I don't
- 10:23Speaker 2: know exactly where where, you know, what he has to
- 10:27Speaker 2: do to put himself in good position, but I think
- 10:29Speaker 2: we'll find out, you know, how much autonomy actually has
- 10:32Speaker 2: in the next few weeks, or.
- 10:34Speaker 1: We take a quick break for a word from our sponsors,
- 10:36Speaker 1: and we'll be right back with more on the shakeup.
- 10:39Speaker 1: In the Angels front.
- 10:40Speaker 6: Office, people dehydration sucks, quints, electrolyte stick packs to the rescue.
- 10:48Speaker 6: I order them. I use them all of the time.
- 10:52Speaker 7: Somebody who may or may not have had some adult
- 10:54Speaker 7: beverages in their life. The next day, you know what flavor,
- 10:56Speaker 7: I like watermelon and I don't like watermelon. I'll go
- 10:59Speaker 7: round and it helps me to get my citrus salt in.
- 11:03Speaker 7: But if I do, it helps me to get back
- 11:05Speaker 7: to normal feeling. Good and ready to go the next day.

- 11:44Speaker 1: Hey, welcome back to Halo Territory with Mark Trumbo, Sam
- 11:48Speaker 1: Blum and Mike D. Givanna. Well, next question I'm gonna ask.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I'm not sure I have the answer to, but it's
- 11:54Speaker 1: I think it's definitely worth asking. With the hiring of
- 11:58Speaker 1: a proven winner and a established guy in John mozayloc
- 12:03Speaker 1: do you guys think this is any indication that Ardie Marino,
- 12:06Speaker 1: the marcurial owner of the Angels, might actually take a
- 12:09Speaker 1: step back and stop meddling in baseball decisions.
- 12:13Speaker 2: What do you think, Sam, I have a hard time
- 12:18Speaker 2: believing it. I just if he does, maybe that's a
- 12:20Speaker 2: sign of something else. Maybe that's the sign of, you know,
- 12:23Speaker 2: selling I'm not gonna. I don't want to throw that
- 12:25Speaker 2: out there because it's you know, just keep rip. The
- 12:28Speaker 2: fan base will take it and run with it. But
- 12:30Speaker 2: I you know, I don't know. I've been around this
- 12:34Speaker 2: too long to think that Already's gonna step away and
- 12:37Speaker 2: not necessarily have a huge hand and everything it's it's
- 12:40Speaker 2: and you know, it's not always baseball, it's just everything.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I mean, it's like I said yesterday or earlier, what
- 12:45Speaker 2: we saw yesterday from mozay Loack was kind of a
- 12:47Speaker 2: guy who's didn't really feel like he was concerned about
- 12:50Speaker 2: what Already thought about what he was saying. I mean
- 12:51Speaker 2: even kind of criticized Already and said he's too much
- 12:54Speaker 2: of a fan, and uh, you know that that's maybe
- 12:56Speaker 2: contributed to some of the issues and you know, the
- 12:59Speaker 2: inability to make tough decisions. He really kind of sent
- 13:01Speaker 2: that out loud, and so that was I think, very
- 13:05Speaker 2: positive thing. But it's you know, I don't know if
- 13:09Speaker 2: Mozaillac fully understands the person who's who's going to be
- 13:12Speaker 2: signing his checks. And we'll see, I mean, we will see,
- 13:14Speaker 2: but I until you know, until such time that we
- 13:16Speaker 2: get to the trade deadline and you see, like if Reed, Debt,
- 13:18Speaker 2: Merjose Soreano, and jo Adell are all on different teams
- 13:21Speaker 2: on August fourth, Okay, maybe maybe there's something to that,
- 13:24Speaker 2: but there's a lot to be There's a lot that
- 13:26Speaker 2: kind of remains to be seen. And for right now,
- 13:29Speaker 2: I still think this is one hundred percent an already operation.
- 13:32Speaker 2: And I still think one hundred percent that no matter
- 13:34Speaker 2: who's in charge of baseball operations, it will be a
- 13:37Speaker 2: slog uh with already as your boss. So we'll see.
- 13:41Speaker 2: This is the right person to have, the person you
- 13:43Speaker 2: want to have in these positions as someone who who
- 13:46Speaker 2: could be fired tomorrow in his life would be the
- 13:48Speaker 2: exact same. And I think that is that is a
- 13:50Speaker 2: good thing to have. It's not I mean, I mean
- 13:53Speaker 2: Trumbo talked about, you know, passing up on more qualified
- 13:56Speaker 2: candidates to to hire Perry. I mean, I think that's
- 13:58Speaker 2: almost by design to some You hire people that you
- 14:01Speaker 2: know will be desperate to keep that job, you know
- 14:04Speaker 2: will be desperate to appease you at every turn, and
- 14:06Speaker 2: so it's good to have someone that maybe isn't that way.
- 14:08Speaker 2: And you know, we'll see how it plays out.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Mark any good feeling about this issue.
- 14:16Speaker 3: I'm wondering about the timing. We're here weeks ago. I mean,
- 14:20Speaker 3: that's a little bit ambiguous. So I was trying to
- 14:22Speaker 3: figure out what happened weeks ago. I mean, one of
- 14:26Speaker 3: the things I saw, and it was the first week
- 14:29Speaker 3: of June, they lost two of three to the Rockies
- 14:32Speaker 3: and two of three to the Dodgers, and I was
- 14:35Speaker 3: hypothesizing maybe the especially with the Rockies, I think for
- 14:39Speaker 3: an owner like already looking at the Rockies, who've been well,
- 14:43Speaker 3: they've been a laughing stock for a long time, and
- 14:46Speaker 3: now they're headed in maybe a little bit better direction.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Records still isn't there yet, but more talent, different people
- 14:54Speaker 3: in charge, you know, seem to be going a different direction.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Mom Ford always predicted improvements on his club year after year,
- 15:02Speaker 3: didn't know where they were going to come from internally.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Bounce back something, but he went out and found some
- 15:08Speaker 3: different people, and the Angels may feel like they may
- 15:14Speaker 3: have felt like they were the last ones that the
- 15:16Speaker 3: White Sox thriving, doing quite well and kind of on
- 15:19Speaker 3: an island did, and don't want to be on that
- 15:21Speaker 3: island any longer. One question for either of you or Mike,
- 15:24Speaker 3: how about you? What's the advantage to doing or releasing
- 15:29Speaker 3: this kind of press on a Friday?
- 15:32Speaker 8: Is there?
- 15:34Speaker 4: Well?
- 15:34Speaker 1: I think they took that right out of the page
- 15:37Speaker 1: of most political you know, administration's playbook. It's the classic
- 15:42Speaker 1: Friday news dump. I don't you know, a lot of
- 15:46Speaker 1: teams like to control the narrative. I hate that phrase.
- 15:48Speaker 1: It's such a cliche. But by doing it Friday was
- 15:51Speaker 1: in an hour before the game, I think we got
- 15:53Speaker 1: the email. You know, they don't have to make those
- 15:57Speaker 1: you know, Molly Jolly or John moseyla of available that
- 16:00Speaker 1: night because we got a game to play in an hour.
- 16:03Speaker 1: They have a time to get all their you know,
- 16:05Speaker 1: their stories straight so to speak at the press conference
- 16:07Speaker 1: the next day. I don't know the timing of it. Sam,
- 16:11Speaker 1: maybe you can answer that question a little better. It
- 16:13Speaker 1: was definitely a little odd, but you know, at some
- 16:17Speaker 1: point you have to make a move. If you're going
- 16:19Speaker 1: to make a move, at some point, you got to
- 16:20Speaker 1: announce it. So maybe they felt this would have the
- 16:23Speaker 1: least blowback or whatever you might get in a situation
- 16:27Speaker 1: like that. What do you think, Sam, I.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Mean, I think the stratagy. I mean I hated it.
- 16:31Speaker 2: You know, look at what the Mets. The Mets fire
- 16:32Speaker 2: their manager in the morning and then they had the
- 16:36Speaker 2: you know, early afternoon, they did the whole thing, and
- 16:37Speaker 2: then they played the game and life went on. And
- 16:39Speaker 2: I think that's how you're supposed to do this. I
- 16:41Speaker 2: think if you know, the Angels were one, I mean,
- 16:44Speaker 2: I mean their line is that they wanted to let
- 16:46Speaker 2: the players know in person and not see it on
- 16:47Speaker 2: Twitter whatever. I don't really buy that. I think for me,
- 16:51Speaker 2: like what they probably were going for, and what makes
- 16:53Speaker 2: some sense to me is that, you know, you make
- 16:55Speaker 2: Friday Night about the old right, like Perry getting fired.
- 16:59Speaker 2: That's that's kind of the news story at a time
- 17:01Speaker 2: when people aren't paying attention to the news. Late on
- 17:04Speaker 2: a Friday night, in the middle of June, beautiful evening,
- 17:07Speaker 2: nobody really is paying attention to the Angels. Obviously, the
- 17:10Speaker 2: crowd was pretty pretty small and for a giveaway night,
- 17:13Speaker 2: and then you make Saturday about kind of the future,
- 17:15Speaker 2: and and you know, if you listen to Molly Jolly,
- 17:17Speaker 2: I don't think she even said Perry's name the whole Prescott.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I mean she, you know, she did the introduction, didn't
- 17:23Speaker 2: mention Perry. Once I asked about Perry. Her answer did
- 17:26Speaker 2: not include his name, right like it was. I mean,
- 17:28Speaker 2: her answers were very canned and prepared, and she almost
- 17:33Speaker 2: it was a little bit it was I thought Mozilla
- 17:35Speaker 2: sounded a lot more kind of like you'd been in
- 17:37Speaker 2: that position before, which is probably the case. But yeah,
- 17:41Speaker 2: I mean she, she and everyone else clearly wanted to
- 17:43Speaker 2: pretend that that Perry Manauzi and was not someone who
- 17:46Speaker 2: has ever really existed in this place. And you know
- 17:49Speaker 2: that was that was I think the strategy. So it
- 17:51Speaker 2: was to make Saturday more about the future. And you
- 17:53Speaker 2: know that's why I wrote it was weird, right because
- 17:55Speaker 2: it was it was like a pet rally, like you know,
- 17:57Speaker 2: and you're you're sitting here at the time, they're thirty
- 17:59Speaker 2: four forty nine last place, like you know, but you
- 18:02Speaker 2: got this whole seller everyone's in a suit and dressed up,
- 18:05Speaker 2: and then the whole office there and all these employees there,
- 18:07Speaker 2: and at the end people are clapping for him, and
- 18:09Speaker 2: I'm like, guys, like, this isn't some big celebration, Like
- 18:12Speaker 2: you're here because of how absolutely terrible you are, right Like,
- 18:15Speaker 2: this is the only reason that this is happening as
- 18:17Speaker 2: we speak in you know, on June twenty seventh. So
- 18:20Speaker 2: that's how I look at it. But I get the
- 18:22Speaker 2: PR strategy behind it. I just don't like it.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Mollie Jolly remembers only a couple months into her
- 18:27Speaker 1: position as team president, and she has never really been,
- 18:30Speaker 1: you know, the face of the franchise in terms of
- 18:33Speaker 1: the front office. So I can understand a little discomfort
- 18:36Speaker 1: on her part from being in that press conference. But
- 18:39Speaker 1: I will say kudos to Molly for recognizing the need
- 18:43Speaker 1: to change and acknowledging that she might not be the
- 18:46Speaker 1: most qualified person to enact that change one hundred percent.
- 18:50Speaker 1: John Moselac, you know it takes, uh, that takes a
- 18:54Speaker 1: lot of self awareness and plenty of humility for an
- 18:57Speaker 1: executive in her position to do that. So I'll give
- 18:59Speaker 1: her credit for that. Now, we did catch up with
- 19:02Speaker 1: some players, uh, before and after Saturday's game, and we
- 19:06Speaker 1: did talk to Mike Trout, the three time a l
- 19:09Speaker 1: m VP about all the turmoil or turnover in the
- 19:12Speaker 1: front office. Let's hear what Mike had just say. Just
- 19:15Speaker 1: your reaction to the news yesterday they came out any
- 19:18Speaker 1: another direction at the GM. Yeah knows.
- 19:21Speaker 8: You know, I think we were all shocked by it,
- 19:24Speaker 8: especially you know, during the season, but you know, it's
- 19:29Speaker 8: a it's a business, and you know, let.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Me out cal going back there. But yeah, no, it's
- 19:40Speaker 1: surprise all you've.
- 19:42Speaker 4: Experienced a lot of turnover with managers gms.
- 19:45Speaker 2: I mean, how do you kind of deal with us forward?
- 19:48Speaker 4: You've experienced a lot of it.
- 19:50Speaker 8: Yeah, no, you know, it's just you know, meet the
- 19:56Speaker 8: guy coming in, get the dome, see what the see
- 19:59Speaker 8: what he's all about. You know, I had a chance
- 20:02Speaker 8: to meet with him earlier, uh, just for a brief
- 20:04Speaker 8: time because he was he's been running around crazy today obviously,
- 20:07Speaker 8: but uh, I know he's coming from a winning organization
- 20:11Speaker 8: with with the Cardinals, and you know, I'm excited to
- 20:13Speaker 8: sit down with him and talk to him.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Do you have some ideas for him or was this more.
- 20:17Speaker 8: Just like yeah, just uh see what he's see, what
- 20:20Speaker 8: he's thinking. And do you know you.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Optimistic that you know that they kind of recognize that
- 20:26Speaker 2: there he needs to be a change. And that's there's this,
- 20:28Speaker 2: like you said, somebody's coming from a serious.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Organization of lodon.
- 20:31Speaker 8: Yes, I mean for sure, but ultimately comes down to
- 20:36Speaker 8: just you know, myself and all of us in this
- 20:39Speaker 8: round playing better. I think that's you know what it
- 20:42Speaker 8: comes down to.
- 20:43Speaker 1: We gotta we gotta go out.
- 20:44Speaker 8: There and play better. So you know, but I'm I'm
- 20:47Speaker 8: excited to get to know Mo and uh you know
- 20:50Speaker 8: Seaway's all out.
- 20:50Speaker 1: What would your relationship like Wither?
- 20:52Speaker 8: Yeah, that was good. You know, like I said, he
- 20:56Speaker 8: when I come to the field, he's he He was
- 20:58Speaker 8: always here, you know, working to try to get a
- 21:01Speaker 8: team together, to get a winning team. You know, he
- 21:05Speaker 8: was there. Wasn't all the other time where I came
- 21:07Speaker 8: to the field where he wasn't here already, So you know, it's.
- 21:12Speaker 4: Just uh.
- 21:14Speaker 8: Yeah, there was a decision from the front, up front,
- 21:16Speaker 8: front office and from the top.
- 21:18Speaker 2: So what have you thought of Molly And just like
- 21:20Speaker 2: the leadership, she's kind of you be broad already.
- 21:22Speaker 8: Yeah, no, il, I love Molly, you know got to
- 21:25Speaker 8: know her a little bit before before all this, but now,
- 21:29Speaker 8: you know, or taking a taking over for John, you know,
- 21:32Speaker 8: it's been great. I think she's you know, working with
- 21:35Speaker 8: working with the guys, you know, working with the families,
- 21:37Speaker 8: and you know, she definitely has, you know, the interest
- 21:41Speaker 8: of you know, trying to get this club back on
- 21:43Speaker 8: the track.
- 21:44Speaker 6: One thing that I was talked about with us was,
- 21:46Speaker 6: you know, building a stable organization from the ground up
- 21:48Speaker 6: in the minor leagues up and sometimes.
- 21:50Speaker 2: It requires patients obviously the gost to win.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Right now, Just how does that make you feel when
- 21:54Speaker 1: you hear something like that.
- 21:55Speaker 8: Yeah, no, I think you know, the the brief conversation
- 21:59Speaker 8: I had, you know, with him earlier just walking to
- 22:01Speaker 8: the clubhouse, you know, he was excited, and you know, I'm,
- 22:05Speaker 8: like I said, I'm really interested to get to know
- 22:08Speaker 8: him a little bit, and you know see the vision
- 22:10Speaker 8: he as I did. I did felt great.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:15Speaker 8: I think took thirty swings, fifteen off the tee and
- 22:19Speaker 8: then fifteen off lips and I ran about fifty percent.
- 22:23Speaker 1: So it's all good, good, all right, We're gonna take
- 22:28Speaker 1: one more more quick break and when we come back,
- 22:31Speaker 1: we havet some final thoughts on the front office shakeup,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and then we're gonna talk about Kristin Moore's de motion
- 22:37Speaker 1: to triple A and Kirby Yates reaching one hundred career
- 22:41Speaker 1: says we're right back. Now it's time for Daily Dingers,
- 22:46Speaker 1: presented by Fan Duel.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Mike gonna give you one last chance. You got the
- 22:58Speaker 3: Mariners coming into town. Ryan Johnson's probably going to be
- 23:02Speaker 3: on the hill for the Halos. Who's your pick for
- 23:04Speaker 3: Daily Dingers?
- 23:05Speaker 1: Well, I know he has had a very disappointing season
- 23:09Speaker 1: compared to his MVP runner up year last season, but
- 23:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with cal Rally, the big dumper. I
- 23:16Speaker 1: know he's coming back from his injury, missed a month.
- 23:19Speaker 1: He's only hitting one sixty six with a five eighty
- 23:22Speaker 1: two ops, eight homers, twenty one RBIs. I just think
- 23:27Speaker 1: he's due. I don't know why. It's just a hunch,
- 23:30Speaker 1: but that's what I got for you, Mark, I like it.

- 24:25Speaker 1: Hey, welcome back to Halo territory with Mark Trumbull, Sam
- 24:28Speaker 1: Blump and Mike di Givanno. Oh guys, just thought i'd
- 24:30Speaker 1: open up the floor. Any final thoughts on the shakeup
- 24:34Speaker 1: in the front office, Sam anything?
- 24:38Speaker 2: No, I mean, I feel like, you know, we've gone
- 24:39Speaker 2: over it.
- 24:40Speaker 1: I don't.
- 24:42Speaker 2: I will see, you know, As like I said, it's
- 24:44Speaker 2: kind of a wait and see game with with with everything,
- 24:47Speaker 2: I'll be curious, you know, what they do with the
- 24:49Speaker 2: people who are currently in the front office. Who stays,
- 24:52Speaker 2: who goes? You know, I imagine the coaching staff will
- 24:56Speaker 2: be significantly different next year. Kind of seems like Kurtszuzuki's
- 25:03Speaker 2: almost he almost resigned to that is weird. After the
- 25:06Speaker 2: I mean, they made Kurt talk first about all this,
- 25:08Speaker 2: which was weird on Friday night, and he just kind
- 25:10Speaker 2: of had no answers about anything. But yeah, I think
- 25:13Speaker 2: it's just gonna be what does this look like after
- 25:14Speaker 2: the season. Are they gonna have somebody in place for
- 25:16Speaker 2: the for the lockout? Is is you know, moze Lo
- 25:19Speaker 2: going to stick around for you know, beyond this season.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Like there's just so many questions about what's next for
- 25:26Speaker 2: this club. But I think it's good that those questions
- 25:28Speaker 2: are at least beginning to be answered now and the
- 25:31Speaker 2: process can start now. And you know, if already let
- 25:34Speaker 2: it happen, I think they can be in a good position.
- 25:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:37Speaker 1: I'll add that Mom made it pretty clear and earned
- 25:40Speaker 1: the press comments that Kurtzuzuki and the coaching staff are safe,
- 25:44Speaker 1: their jobs are safe for the rest of this year,
- 25:47Speaker 1: don't worry about all that stuff. So I guess that's
- 25:50Speaker 1: probably provided some comfort at lease in Kurt's mind that
- 25:54Speaker 1: his leash isn't really short mark any final thoughts on
- 25:57Speaker 1: the shakeup.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Randy Floores is the guy the name that I've heard
- 26:03Speaker 3: the most from quite a few different people on who
- 26:06Speaker 3: makes sense at least initially for the next general manager.
- 26:10Speaker 3: Just tied to mo as We're going to call him
- 26:14Speaker 3: very accomplished a playing background as well, so keep an
- 26:18Speaker 3: eye on that. But I assume they'll interview quite a
- 26:21Speaker 3: few people for the job, and it'll be interesting if
- 26:24Speaker 3: Moe chooses to stay on. I don't know if that's
- 26:28Speaker 3: telling or not. When he does decide to either stay
- 26:32Speaker 3: or go, it seems like he doesn't want anywhere near
- 26:35Speaker 3: the amount of hours that it takes to be a
- 26:36Speaker 3: general manager on his you know, dinner plate currently, So
- 26:41Speaker 3: hopefully he's able to contribute as much as he can
- 26:45Speaker 3: and fit his own schedule because he's done this a
- 26:47Speaker 3: long time and he can, you know, has the ability
- 26:50Speaker 3: to choose what he's going to do.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Yeah, as far as timeline, most said he would probably
- 26:56Speaker 1: start seeking permission from teams to interview candidates for the
- 27:00Speaker 1: GM job after the trade deadline. Definitely wants to have
- 27:04Speaker 1: somebody in place, if I had to guess, either by
- 27:07Speaker 1: the end of the season or shortly after the season. Yeah,
- 27:10Speaker 1: the possibility that lockout after December may throw a wrench
- 27:14Speaker 1: on those plans, but I think he admite it pretty
- 27:16Speaker 1: clear that he wants to have a guy on board
- 27:19Speaker 1: before his contract runs out, which is in December. Okay,
- 27:22Speaker 1: let's turn our attention to Christian Moore. So Sam and
- 27:26Speaker 1: I were in the clubhouse this is what Saturday night,
- 27:29Speaker 1: no Friday night, and pretty empty. We were waiting to
- 27:34Speaker 1: talk to a guy, and Christian Moore walks into the room.
- 27:37Speaker 1: All the reporters are there. He's clearly upset. Made say
- 27:42Speaker 1: comment about how few number of at bats he got
- 27:45Speaker 1: in the big leagues. You know, there might have been
- 27:48Speaker 1: some bad words in there, and credit to Joe Adele,
- 27:51Speaker 1: he put a put a put a lid on that
- 27:53Speaker 1: real quick, so like basically shut him down. So he's
- 27:56Speaker 1: clearly upset at being demoted. H And we did ask
- 28:01Speaker 1: Kurtzuzuki the next day about Christian and he also talked about,
- 28:06Speaker 1: you know, the decision in terms of this kid was
- 28:09Speaker 1: not playing that much at the big league level. He's
- 28:11Speaker 1: still one of your top prospects. It's not doing a
- 28:13Speaker 1: many good sitting on the bench three fourth straight days here.
- 28:16Speaker 1: So let's hear what Kurt had to say about that.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I just want to start with the roster move today
- 28:22Speaker 1: seriously into the decision to have as audience.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Yeah, obviously the opportunity to play every day, you know,
- 28:30Speaker 4: because we didn't feel like it's not fair to him
- 28:32Speaker 4: to come here and not play every day and he
- 28:33Speaker 4: didn't get his normal raps at that something like that.
- 28:36Speaker 8: So that was the main part of the.
- 28:39Speaker 5: With the Parry party yesterday made the decisions.
- 28:45Speaker 4: Oh men, John, we talked about it and we felt
- 28:48Speaker 4: like this was, you know, the best decision going forward.
- 28:52Speaker 8: What was the.
- 28:53Speaker 9: Balance between having him up here gets more experience it
- 28:56Speaker 9: also a.
- 28:57Speaker 4: Challenge and not having everybody that Yeah, it's definitely I
- 29:01Speaker 4: guess that's the question, right and the biggest thing is
- 29:03Speaker 4: how much they're gonna play.
- 29:04Speaker 8: You don't want a young guy to.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Come up and set the bench and not play.
- 29:07Speaker 4: And whether it's at the venture one day or or
- 29:10Speaker 4: things that you wanted to play every day consistently. So
- 29:12Speaker 4: we just felt like at this time that wasn't the
- 29:15Speaker 4: best option for us to hear and you know, we've
- 29:17Speaker 4: had to.
- 29:18Speaker 5: Do is he's still going to play different positions down there,
- 29:20Speaker 5: or they gonna stick to points.
- 29:22Speaker 4: Yeah, we're talking about that now. But right now we
- 29:24Speaker 4: got them playing some third, second and leftfield. Still we
- 29:27Speaker 4: still have to discuss how we want to move forward
- 29:30Speaker 4: of position lives how much.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Bass that just because we after getting out and it
- 29:34Speaker 2: looked like he gave you as a little upset about
- 29:36Speaker 2: it became in the club bass where Bret you kind
- 29:38Speaker 2: of feel like he's dead into right.
- 29:39Speaker 4: I think any player, right, I think that's what makes
- 29:42Speaker 4: them good, is the fire that they have. They disappointed obviously, and.
- 29:46Speaker 8: You know there's no mystery to that.
- 29:48Speaker 4: I mean every guy would be disappointed, So you know,
- 29:51Speaker 4: I don't follow him for that. He's upset and he
- 29:53Speaker 4: felt like he should be here and that's what drives
- 29:55Speaker 4: him to be a good player.
- 29:57Speaker 1: How much if he took a mark. He's probably seen
- 30:01Speaker 1: this scene play out in the clubhouses over the years.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Many times guys get upset obviously when they're sent down.
- 30:10Speaker 1: But can you look at this and think this is
- 30:12Speaker 1: probably an isolated incident? Is this maybe a one off?
- 30:15Speaker 1: Or does this kid need a little bit of an
- 30:16Speaker 1: attitude adjustment?
- 30:20Speaker 3: I had, Well, let's say I'll to just talk about
- 30:23Speaker 3: my time with the Angels, those that did something like this,
- 30:28Speaker 3: and it did happen a few times, didn't go too
- 30:31Speaker 3: well for him. It was a different regime, different manager,
- 30:35Speaker 3: but it wasn't tolerated, and you got to be professional.
- 30:41Speaker 3: And I do wonder the motivations for more. I understand
- 30:46Speaker 3: being upset. Who is he upset at? I guess the manager,
- 30:50Speaker 3: the front office. You know, his statistics weren't Yes, he
- 30:54Speaker 3: only got twenty at bats, he punched out eleven times.
- 30:58Speaker 3: His left field defense left a lot to be desired.
- 31:00Speaker 3: He didn't he didn't look the part out there. I
- 31:02Speaker 3: don't think anyone would say that he looked good by
- 31:05Speaker 3: any stretch. He didn't look natural. I don't think it's
- 31:07Speaker 3: a great fit for him. So where do you play him?
- 31:11Speaker 3: You got a couple options. Second base I think makes
- 31:14Speaker 3: the most sense. But I don't know if he would
- 31:17Speaker 3: reasonably have an argument to say he's outperformed Denser Guzman,
- 31:21Speaker 3: who's been playing excellent defense and contributing with the bat.
- 31:26Speaker 3: He hasn't looked overmatched at all. His stats were excellent
- 31:29Speaker 3: in Salt Lake, and I guess who's aren't. But it's
- 31:34Speaker 3: one of those things that an outburst like that, that's it.
- 31:39Speaker 3: It's not. It doesn't. It seems very immature, and I
- 31:42Speaker 3: wonder if part of it's because he's seen the other
- 31:44Speaker 3: first round picks get rifled up so quick and he's
- 31:48Speaker 3: a first round pick and he's playing in Triple A.
- 31:51Speaker 1: What do you think, Mike, Well, I think you know.
- 31:54Speaker 1: You also you mentioned Guzman. You also have Parraza and
- 31:58Speaker 1: Walton who are both playing pretty well, who can play
- 32:00Speaker 1: second base, and you know Wade Meckler and left field.
- 32:05Speaker 1: I mean, to me, the kid's just not being a realist.
- 32:08Speaker 1: I mean, look at the situation. You're a number one
- 32:10Speaker 1: pick from a few years ago. You're playing every couple
- 32:14Speaker 1: of games, and you're you know, we're trying to get
- 32:17Speaker 1: you acclimated the left field. How do you get acclimated
- 32:19Speaker 1: to the left field at the big league level when
- 32:22Speaker 1: you're only playing left field maybe every fourth or fifth day.
- 32:25Speaker 1: That doesn't make any sense. If he's a realist, he's
- 32:27Speaker 1: gonna look at it and say, you know, I'm better
- 32:29Speaker 1: off playing every day at Triple A right now. Maybe
- 32:32Speaker 1: he's got to get a swing right. Maybe he goes
- 32:34Speaker 1: down there and plays left field four times a week
- 32:37Speaker 1: instead of once or twice a week here, so to me,
- 32:40Speaker 1: it's a real sign of immaturity. Is when I saw
- 32:43Speaker 1: that outburst, That's what I thought, Like, this kid has
- 32:46Speaker 1: to grow up a little bit. I mean, look at
- 32:49Speaker 1: the situation. Mark, you said on the show many times
- 32:52Speaker 1: you try to be a really good self evaluator. To me,
- 32:54Speaker 1: this kid's really failing in that department.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Sam, what do you I mean? I think there's a
- 32:59Speaker 2: couple things like you know one, I mean, even sitting
- 33:02Speaker 2: in the Angels clubhouse, I was, I noticed like they
- 33:04Speaker 2: have all these like copied. I think it's like baseball perspectives.
- 33:07Speaker 2: It says the natural and it's a picture of Connor Griffin.
- 33:09Speaker 2: I mean, you know, this is a guy who I'm
- 33:11Speaker 2: I'm sure it's not an easy position that he's in, right,
- 33:13Speaker 2: Like Christian Moore has taking one pick ahead of Connor Griffin.
- 33:16Speaker 2: I think, you know it is a like, yeah, well
- 33:21Speaker 2: it wasn't great. I you know, I think that maybe was.
- 33:25Speaker 2: You know, you want to handle that better. And uh,
- 33:27Speaker 2: you know, obviously Mark's been in these club has been
- 33:29Speaker 2: in these moments, you know, under understands kind of the
- 33:31Speaker 2: dynamics at play. And I give Joe Adell credit for
- 33:34Speaker 2: maybe quashing it before it became something worse, you know,
- 33:38Speaker 2: and credit to Joe because Joe's been in that position
- 33:41Speaker 2: himself probably many probably more time, more times than we
- 33:44Speaker 2: even remember. But yeah, it's just it's tough. I mean,
- 33:48Speaker 2: he's he's Christian Moore's dominated at the triple A level.
- 33:50Speaker 2: How do you develop I think the question is can
- 33:52Speaker 2: they really develop him? What do they need to do
- 33:53Speaker 2: to get him so you know, he's he's able to
- 33:56Speaker 2: succeed here. I don't disagree with him. It's twenty at bats,
- 33:58Speaker 2: but you know, like Mark said, they were not good
- 34:00Speaker 2: twenty They were twenty not very good at bats, and
- 34:02Speaker 2: the defense wasn't very good and they kind of locked
- 34:04Speaker 2: a little bit at some of these positions. So what
- 34:07Speaker 2: do you do. It's a it's not an ideal spot,
- 34:08Speaker 2: but can you develop him a triple A? I mean,
- 34:10Speaker 2: can he can he become a hitter that you know,
- 34:14Speaker 2: cuts down on the swing and miss that can catch him,
- 34:16Speaker 2: to a fastball that can recognize off speed. I mean,
- 34:18Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know where the next step
- 34:20Speaker 2: is for him, but you know, maybe it starts with
- 34:22Speaker 2: a little bit of maturity. But I think for him,
- 34:24Speaker 2: I mean, you know, he's come across as a to
- 34:26Speaker 2: me as someone that that you know mentally can handle
- 34:29Speaker 2: this pressure, I just don't know, you know what that
- 34:34Speaker 2: looks like. And I think he this was not a
- 34:37Speaker 2: good look for him.
- 34:38Speaker 1: For the record that was Baseball Digest, that Baseball was
- 34:42Speaker 1: on the cover of Fine magazine. I've done some work
- 34:46Speaker 1: for We're going to close the show on a positive note.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Kirby Yates Saturday night notched his one hundredth career save
- 34:54Speaker 1: against the Athletics. And I know that may not seem
- 34:57Speaker 1: a big deal. Like a big deal and elite close
- 35:00Speaker 1: will rack up one hundred saves and three, maybe four seasons,
- 35:03Speaker 1: But as Kurtzuzuki said after the game quote, it takes
- 35:06Speaker 1: a special person to get those last three outs of
- 35:09Speaker 1: a baseball game. And Yeates, who's now thirty nine in
- 35:12Speaker 1: his twelve big league season, has done it at the
- 35:15Speaker 1: highest level for one hundred times. So to me, that's
- 35:18Speaker 1: a pretty solid achievement. And Yates also showed some resilience
- 35:23Speaker 1: this year. After recording his ninety nine save on May
- 35:26Speaker 1: twenty third, he suffered a loss, three blown saves, or
- 35:31Speaker 1: actually was three losses and a blown save lost. His
- 35:35Speaker 1: closer job came back and he's had four straight scoreless
- 35:39Speaker 1: innings and a three point six ERA in twenty games
- 35:42Speaker 1: for the Angels. Obviously missed some time at the beginning
- 35:45Speaker 1: of the year for because of an injury. Mark has
- 35:49Speaker 1: this guy turned into an asset for this boat pen.
- 35:53Speaker 3: I think Kirby is throwing the ball a heck of
- 35:56Speaker 3: a lot better. I know that he talked about his
- 35:58Speaker 3: lower body strength being not where he wanted it to
- 36:01Speaker 3: be early in the year, not allowing him to get
- 36:03Speaker 3: into some of the positions that he needs to to
- 36:07Speaker 3: deliver the pitches in the fashion that has made him successful.
- 36:11Speaker 3: So I think he's back in physical shape, and I
- 36:16Speaker 3: mean he's looking No one can argue that he hasn't
- 36:18Speaker 3: looked better. And I think this is the version of
- 36:21Speaker 3: him that most everyone was looking forward to and counting on.
- 36:26Speaker 3: He still has had fantastic numbers against right handed hitters,
- 36:30Speaker 3: and he's you know, as long as he can limit
- 36:32Speaker 3: the damage against lefties, he's going to be a guy
- 36:35Speaker 3: that you can count on. He's got the experience and
- 36:37Speaker 3: if the pitches are there too, the Angels are going
- 36:39Speaker 3: to be better because of it.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Yeah, as we said, Yates had to wait over a
- 36:43Speaker 1: month for his hundred save, and we did catch up
- 36:46Speaker 1: on them after the game, and here's what he had
- 36:48Speaker 1: to say.
- 36:51Speaker 2: I appreciate it, thank you, And i'd been a little
- 36:54Speaker 2: while before you he's ninety nine. I mean that much
- 36:56Speaker 2: that you feel.
- 36:56Speaker 5: Yeah, that was you know, it took a while, I think,
- 36:59Speaker 5: you know, ultimately, it's probably the longest one I've ever
- 37:01Speaker 5: had to get. But I'm glad it's over at cool,
- 37:06Speaker 5: you know, glad I find I got another chance to
- 37:08Speaker 5: do it. And I wasn't, you know, so sure i'd
- 37:10Speaker 5: get another chance a couple of weeks ago, but you know,
- 37:13Speaker 5: finally got one to throw the ball well, so you know,
- 37:15Speaker 5: it all worked out. Scam has a crazy way of
- 37:17Speaker 5: working itself out that.
- 37:18Speaker 8: You haven't mentioned better recently. What do you think kind
- 37:20Speaker 8: of running too.
- 37:20Speaker 5: That you know, there's some things me and Don were
- 37:23Speaker 5: working out, probably trying to get back into the lower
- 37:25Speaker 5: half a little bit better. You know, something clicked, I
- 37:29Speaker 5: don't know, two weeks ago, and just it feels like
- 37:32Speaker 5: the ball's coming out better at staying on playing a
- 37:34Speaker 5: lot more, you know, split standing on playing a lot longer,
- 37:39Speaker 5: you know, and I've been getting a lot more.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Swing and missus.
- 37:41Speaker 5: So I think, you know, it's finally where the results
- 37:43Speaker 5: are kind of showing up. Is the way I feel
- 37:45Speaker 5: like I've been throwing the ball.
- 37:47Speaker 4: You mentioned getting your lower body more obviously the beginning
- 37:50Speaker 4: season he dealt with that lower body injury at the
- 37:52Speaker 4: beginning of the season.
- 37:53Speaker 6: Was any issue maybe trying to find that balance or
- 37:56Speaker 6: trying to get back in a.
- 37:56Speaker 5: Lower leg Yeah, I mean, you know, my legs weren't
- 37:59Speaker 5: very strong, you know, so finally had some time to
- 38:02Speaker 5: build up and get conditioned, get.
- 38:04Speaker 3: You know, stronger in the late room.
- 38:07Speaker 5: You know, and find those positions that I probably wasn't
- 38:09Speaker 5: able to get into earlier. And you know, it seems
- 38:12Speaker 5: like I'm getting into them a little bit more efficiently
- 38:14Speaker 5: and you know, kind of being able to stick the
- 38:17Speaker 5: landing and have the all come.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Out after that.
- 38:19Speaker 5: I think it's huge. So yeah, you know, I think
- 38:22Speaker 5: I like where I'm at right now. You know, we
- 38:24Speaker 5: still got a long way to go, well, you know,
- 38:26Speaker 5: for another three and a half four months and whatever
- 38:28Speaker 5: it is.
- 38:28Speaker 1: But yeah, right now, I feel good.
- 38:31Speaker 5: You know, keep it going and just try to keep
- 38:33Speaker 5: working on it every day.
- 38:34Speaker 1: You handle righties pretty well this year. What can you
- 38:37Speaker 1: do to combat leftie slowly cool thing.
- 38:40Speaker 5: I mean, I think the lefty thing was. You know,
- 38:43Speaker 5: it's really been two swings. It's been McNeil, and it's
- 38:45Speaker 5: been Pretty's Pretty's Homer's two homers. Other than that, you know,
- 38:50Speaker 5: I feel like I like what I've been doing against them.
- 38:52Speaker 5: I think those two swings kind of inflate the members
- 38:54Speaker 5: a little bit. You know, I'm getting better at commandity
- 38:57Speaker 5: of baseball. I think as I get better at commanding
- 38:59Speaker 5: of as well, you know, those memories will go back
- 39:01Speaker 5: to where they are.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Games.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Sam, what do you think you a little more bullish
- 39:08Speaker 1: on Kirby Yates in your bullpen right now? Sure?
- 39:12Speaker 2: I mean, congrats to him. I think Sam Bachman should
- 39:14Speaker 2: be closing games. That's you know, more for the Angel's future,
- 39:19Speaker 2: maybe for the you know, trade deadline things like that. Yeah,
- 39:23Speaker 2: I think Sam Bachman should be the closer. I'm glad
- 39:25Speaker 2: he got us, he got a hundred, and I think
- 39:26Speaker 2: you're right Kirbyates is pitching it. You know, maybe what
- 39:29Speaker 2: they were hoping for when they you know, sign him
- 39:31Speaker 2: with moved to five million dollar contract. Also would love to,
- 39:34Speaker 2: you know, pretty cool to see Sam and Tara get
- 39:37Speaker 2: his first save on Sunday, you know, and so he's
- 39:41Speaker 2: someone that kind of looks like filled that role too.
- 39:44Speaker 2: So I mean this bullpen is like turned from you
- 39:47Speaker 2: know one where there were kind of these last legs
- 39:50Speaker 2: pitchers who really weren't performing very well, to something a
- 39:54Speaker 2: lot better. And it's, you know, I think been a
- 39:57Speaker 2: part of why they're you know, the you know playing
- 40:00Speaker 2: you know, not necessarily you get to every single game
- 40:04Speaker 2: you have a lead where it feels like it's gonna
- 40:05Speaker 2: be blown. They still have blown some games. They don't
- 40:08Speaker 2: have a ton of saves. They're not a great bullpen,
- 40:09Speaker 2: but it's better and I think Kirbyate's performing better as
- 40:12Speaker 2: part of that. But there are some other options there
- 40:13Speaker 2: that I think should be getting those ninth inning chances
- 40:15Speaker 2: when they're available.
- 40:17Speaker 1: All right, and we will close the show with that.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Thank you everybody for tuning in for listening. Please like
- 40:23Speaker 1: and subscribe, and we will see you next time on
- 40:26Speaker 1: Halo Territory.
