Seattle shut down 22 surveillance cameras in the Stadium District after the FIFA World Cup ended — a promise the mayor made they’d only be active for the tournament. Activated in early June amid credible but general security concerns, the cameras remained on throughout the event with no major incidents reported. Now, the city will undergo an independent audit of all police CCTV policies this fall, and the cameras will stay off until the review is complete — with no new cameras approved until then.
