Speaker 1: Hi, Catherine, Hello Chelsea.
• 0:04
Speaker 2: This is our post election minisode. Minisode.
• 0:08
Speaker 1: Yeah, so we wanted to gather some resources for everybody
• 0:12
Speaker 1: to make sure that the people who want to get
• 0:15
Speaker 1: involved and activate are doing something. There was like eleven
• 0:19
Speaker 1: million people that didn't vote this year compared to Biden,
• 0:22
Speaker 1: So I think the popular vote ended up at eighty
• 0:24
Speaker 1: one million for Biden and around seventy million for Kamala,
• 0:27
Speaker 1: and then Trump got seventy five million, which is only
• 0:31
Speaker 1: one million more than he got last time he ran.
• 0:35
Speaker 1: So the comfort in that is that it's not like
• 0:38
Speaker 1: he's gaining an audience. The Left has lost their audience
• 0:42
Speaker 1: because of Gaza and Israel and a bunch of people
• 0:46
Speaker 1: that didn't want to vote because of that, which I
• 0:49
Speaker 1: will never understand, because if anyone's going to go after
• 0:53
Speaker 1: Israel in a more aggressive way, it is Trump. At
• 0:55
Speaker 1: least Kamala would have pressured Netnya, who first cease fire
• 0:58
Speaker 1: and at this point is to blame for this ongoing
• 1:03
Speaker 1: pulverization of Gaza. But anyway, that should be some comfort
• 1:08
Speaker 1: knowing that he didn't gain so many more followers. I
• 1:11
Speaker 1: don't believe every Trump voter is a racist and a bigot.
• 1:14
Speaker 1: I just believe that people are really uninformed in this country,
• 1:18
Speaker 1: and that's what Trump's administration wants is for people to
• 1:20
Speaker 1: get more uninformed, and we're gonna make sure we get
• 1:25
Speaker 1: more informed. And one of the things I just wanted
• 1:27
Speaker 1: to touch upon is like I read this book about
• 1:29
Speaker 1: economics when I saw this economist speak at one of
• 1:32
  Speaker 1: these like getaways.
• 1:33
Speaker 2: Like this was years ago retreat.
• 1:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, one of these like Google retreats or something that
• 1:37
Speaker 1: I went to. And the economy that we're experiencing now
• 1:42
Speaker 1: is not because of Biden. It's because of fucking Donald Trump.
• 1:45
Speaker 1: That every economic policy, the major economic policy, takes four
• 1:50
Speaker 1: to six years to actually show up in society.
• 1:52
  Speaker 2: It doesn't.
• 1:53
Speaker 1: You don't just make a change in a policy and
• 1:55
Speaker 1: it affects everybody. Inflation is not a result of Biden
• 1:59
Speaker 1: being pre Inflation is a result of COVID happening in
• 2:02
Speaker 1: twenty twenty and all of the measures we had to
• 2:05
Speaker 1: take to make sure people were stabilized after COVID. That's
• 2:08
Speaker 1: why our economy is in the whole. One of the reasons.
• 2:11
Speaker 1: The other ones are wars everywhere, and yes, we do
• 2:15
Speaker 1: support wars in other countries because we're supposed to be
• 2:18
Speaker 1: a democracy, and we're supposed to be helping other places
• 2:20
Speaker 1: remain democratic. So that's why our economics are the way
• 2:25
Speaker 1: they are. Trump is going to walk in now where
• 2:27
Speaker 1: the economy is going to boon a little, and that's
• 2:29
Speaker 1: because of what Biden did to stabilize our economy, which
• 2:32
Speaker 1: he gets absolutely no credit for. So and then you're
• 2:36
Speaker 1: going to see all of the policies that Trump enacted.
• 2:38
  Speaker 2: But I'm not.
• 2:39
Speaker 1: I don't want to be lecturing my audience because I
• 2:43
Speaker 1: don't think Mandy Trump supporters are listening.
• 2:45
Speaker 2: That's probably true, And if you are.
• 2:48
Speaker 1: I'd love to understand where you're coming from. I really would,
• 2:53
Speaker 1: because your vote is for the collective, not for yourself,
• 2:57
  Speaker 1: I think. But I know I come from a place
• 2:59
Speaker 1: of privilege and maybe you think I could afford that luxury,
• 3:02
Speaker 1: but I'm always voting for the sake of others and
• 3:04
Speaker 1: marginalized communities. That is the first thing I think of, Yeah,
• 3:08
  Speaker 1: not my pocketbook.
• 3:10
Speaker 3: While should we provide some resources.
• 3:12
Speaker 2: Yes, let's provide some resources.
• 3:14
Speaker 3: So I feel like for those that have money, give money.
• 3:17
Speaker 3: If you have time, give time. I think this is
• 3:20
Speaker 3: you know, we took our week to wallow and this
• 3:22
Speaker 3: is time to get involved with an organization that you
• 3:25
  Speaker 3: feel passionately about.
• 3:27
Speaker 2: And I think bringing.
• 3:28
Speaker 3: Back how pissed off we all were in twenty sixteen
• 3:31
Speaker 3: is going to be a real big theme for the
• 3:33
Speaker 3: next four years. We were all in the streets, we
• 3:35
Speaker 3: were active in our communities, and you know, we had
• 3:37
Speaker 3: four years to sort of chill out a little bit,
• 3:39
Speaker 3: and now we get actionable again.
• 3:41
Speaker 2: Take Now we take action again. Okay.
• 3:43
Speaker 1: So some of these these are all LGBTQ plus organizations
• 3:47
Speaker 1: that you can support today. You can join, to volunteer,
• 3:51
Speaker 1: you can you can donate whatever you feel comfortable doing.
• 3:54
Speaker 2: There's the Trevor Project.
• 3:56
Speaker 1: There's g l SCN lesson that creating safe and inclusive
• 4:01
Speaker 1: schools for LGBTQ plus students, and there's Alambda Legal, which
• 4:06
Speaker 1: is Lambda Legal. Then there's the Campaign for Southern Equality CSE,
• 4:13
Speaker 1: which expands legal protections and healthcare access for LGBTQ people
• 4:17
Speaker 1: in the South. There is the Phoenix Transition Program, which
• 4:21
Speaker 1: provides support across the country for distributing gender affirming clothing
• 4:26
Speaker 1: and developing crisis funds. And then there's the trans Housing Initiative,
• 4:30
Speaker 1: which is THCHI STL addressing housing inequality for trans people
• 4:36
Speaker 1: in Saint Louis through training and financial literacy support. And
• 4:41
Speaker 1: then there is Parent Families and Friends of Lesbian and
• 4:44
Speaker 1: gaysp FLAG support, education and advocacy for LGBTQ plus people
• 4:50
  Speaker 1: and their families.
• 4:52
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's fantastic, and that's all places that you can
• 4:54
Speaker 3: reach out to if you are a queer person or transperson,
• 4:58
Speaker 3: or you need resources, if you're looking to get involved,
• 5:01
Speaker 3: you can give to organizations like the ACLU.
• 5:04
Speaker 2: I know they're super duper and warm moode right now.
• 5:06
Speaker 3: You can get involved with places like the Yellowhammer Fund,
• 5:09
Speaker 3: which is an incredible organization. They not only provide funds
• 5:13
Speaker 3: for people who need abortion care, but you can also
• 5:15
Speaker 3: join with them in maybe accompanying someone to their appointment
• 5:19
Speaker 3: if they need a chaperone, or helping to drive someone
• 5:21
Speaker 3: to where they need to be to get the health
• 5:23
Speaker 3: care that they need. But also, like locally, you can
• 5:26
Speaker 3: get involved in your local LGBTQ youth organization. There is
• 5:30
Speaker 3: a new organization that I well maybe it's not new,
• 5:33
Speaker 3: but I just recently learned about it called Stand in Pride,
• 5:36
Speaker 3: and they're available for LGBTQ folks who maybe don't have
• 5:41
Speaker 3: supportive family, maybe don't have a lot of community, and
• 5:44
Speaker 3: they'll do anything from like listening. If you've had a
• 5:46
Speaker 3: bad day and you need somebody to talk to up
• 5:49
Speaker 3: to there'll be somebody to walk you down the aisle.
• 5:52
Speaker 3: If your family is not attending your wedding, so definitely
• 5:54
Speaker 3: reach out to them if you need some support. But also, like, Chelsea,
• 5:59
Speaker 3: what would you say about getting involved with people that
• 6:02
Speaker 3: you know? I mean, I think, like send somebody a note.
• 6:04
Speaker 3: If you have like a queerer, trans person or a
• 6:07
Speaker 3: person of color in your life who you know you
• 6:08
Speaker 3: feel like needs a little bit of extra support right now,
• 6:11
Speaker 3: send them a note, send them a text. If you're
• 6:14
Speaker 3: feeling like your your nervous system is totally shot, get
• 6:17
Speaker 3: out in nature. Any other sort of recommendations that.
• 6:20
Speaker 1: You'd have, Chelsea, Yeah, I mean I would just remind
• 6:23
Speaker 1: everybody to act with a lot of love and a
• 6:27
Speaker 1: lot of you know, spread joy and love wherever you can,
• 6:30
Speaker 1: and support to anybody who's confused or scared. And I
• 6:34
Speaker 1: even if that person is you, I think when you
• 6:36
Speaker 1: really kind of can. I looked up a word this
• 6:40
Speaker 1: weekend called aura in Spanish that means now, but in English.
• 6:44
Speaker 1: It's about spreading love, kindness, and empathy, and I think
• 6:47
Speaker 1: we need that more than ever, Like we've lost our
• 6:49
Speaker 1: way as a society. People don't give a shit about
• 6:51
Speaker 1: other people. So if you're somebody who does, make sure
• 6:54
Speaker 1: other people feel that love and compassion, go out of
• 6:56
Speaker 1: your way for people. You know, we're all in this together,
• 6:59
Speaker 1: and the more we can become a collective and stand
• 7:02
Speaker 1: in solidarity with each other and do little small things
• 7:05
Speaker 1: for people, little small acts of kindness to people each day,
• 7:08
Speaker 1: is going to help your soul and help others.
• 7:11
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 7:11
Speaker 3: Absolutely, what advice would you have? I know a lot
• 7:14
Speaker 3: of people are staring down the barrel of Thanksgiving and
• 7:16
Speaker 3: other holidays and potentially being around family that they're not
• 7:20
Speaker 3: excited to be around.
• 7:21
Speaker 1: Right now, I am not going to be around any
• 7:24
Speaker 1: of my family members that.
• 7:25
Speaker 2: Are involved in Trump.
• 7:27
  Speaker 1: That's where and that's where I'm at, and that's.
• 7:30
Speaker 2: Where I'm staying. Yeah.
• 7:32
Speaker 1: I sent an email to someone last night letting them
• 7:34
Speaker 1: know that they were not welcome to come to my
• 7:36
  Speaker 1: special taping.
• 7:37
  Speaker 2: I don't know how.
• 7:38
Speaker 1: Long this feeling will last where I am not willing
• 7:40
Speaker 1: to hang out with anybody that supports conspiracy theories or believes,
• 7:47
Speaker 1: you know, the things that I steadfastly stand again. So
• 7:50
Speaker 1: I don't know if that's the right advice to give
• 7:52
Speaker 1: to everyone. I'm not giving it. I'm just telling you
• 7:54
Speaker 1: that's what I'm doing because I'm too disheartened to have
• 7:58
Speaker 1: any energy around me like that.
• 8:00
Speaker 3: Yeah, I think from both of us, you're off the
• 8:02
Speaker 3: hook and you don't have to go be with your
• 8:05
Speaker 3: family right now. I'll make a different, cozy little plan
• 8:07
  Speaker 3: for the holidays.
• 8:08
Speaker 1: And you don't have to be an asshole about it. No, No,
• 8:11
  Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
• 8:11
  Speaker 2: I'm not there yet. I can't. I can't be with
• 8:13
Speaker 2: you guys yet. I mean, that's great advice.
• 8:15
Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, so I know we went over a lot
• 8:17
Speaker 1: of LGBTQ groups. There's also Earthjustice dot org, which is
• 8:21
Speaker 1: focusing on the climate and environmental law. So that's one
• 8:26
Speaker 1: of the nation's leading environmental law organizations. And then there's
• 8:30
Speaker 1: also Indivisible, which is a grassroots movement of thousands of
• 8:34
Speaker 1: local indivisible groups with a mission to elect progressive leaders,
• 8:38
Speaker 1: rebuild our democracy, and defeat the Trump agenda.
• 8:40
Speaker 2: That's Invisible dot org.
• 8:42
Speaker 1: And then there are some crisis hotlines because I know
• 8:45
Speaker 1: a lot of people are.
• 8:47
Speaker 2: Panicking and are feeling very hopeless.
• 8:51
Speaker 1: So for anyone who has a transgender member of their
• 8:56
Speaker 1: family or if you are trans, there is a trans Lifeline,
• 8:59
Speaker 1: which is a twenty four to seven hotline and the
• 9:01
Speaker 1: numbers eight seven seven five six five eight eight six. Oh.
• 9:06
Speaker 1: The Trevor Project has a hot line two for any
• 9:09
Speaker 1: members of the LGBTQ community. That's eight six six four
• 9:12
Speaker 1: eight eight seventy three eighty six. That's eight sixty six
• 9:16
Speaker 1: four eight eight seventy three eighty six. And then there's
• 9:20
Speaker 1: the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, so that's one eight hundred
• 9:24
Speaker 1: two seven three eight two five five. And then there's
• 9:27
Speaker 1: a Crisis text line, which is a free twenty four
• 9:29
Speaker 1: seven twenty four hour a day, seven day week support
• 9:32
Speaker 1: service for those in crisis, and you can text start
• 9:35
Speaker 1: to seven four to one dash seven four to one.
• 9:39
Speaker 1: And then there's an lgbt Q National Youth talk Line
• 9:43
Speaker 1: and you can call them at eight hundred two four
• 9:45
Speaker 1: six seven seven four to three. And all of these
• 9:49
Speaker 1: organizations except donations and are all looking for volunteers.
• 9:53
Speaker 2: Okay, So that is your election update everyone. Godspeed,
