- 0:07Speaker 1: Birdland. This was not to start to the road trip
- 0:09Speaker 1: the Orioles wanted. They lose today. We're taping this after
- 0:12Speaker 1: the game Thursday three nothing to the Mariners. Finally they
- 0:15Speaker 1: are shut out. They were the last major league team
- 0:17Speaker 1: to be shut out this year. That's not gonna make
- 0:19Speaker 1: anybody in Mirdland feel only better about this one. As
- 0:22Speaker 1: the oil offense came up well short in Seattle. We're
- 0:25Speaker 1: gonna get to that in just a minute. I want
- 0:28Speaker 1: to start with a positive because there is a positive
- 0:31Speaker 1: believe it or not here And maybe no one noticed this,
- 0:34Speaker 1: but me keeping all my stats here that the Orioles
- 0:37Speaker 1: for the first time this year have had four straight
- 0:40Speaker 1: quality starts as they have rolled off a run here
- 0:44Speaker 1: from Trevor Rodgers on to Brandon Young, Kyle bradish.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Dealt last night, Bozz today.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Good after the first those four four straight quality starts
- 0:53Speaker 1: three point zero four ERA, But guys, they're wasting good pitching.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Those four pitchers allowed to in row runs, three earned runs,
- 1:02Speaker 1: one earned run, and three earned runs and the team
- 1:04Speaker 1: won one of those games. So it is something to
- 1:08Speaker 1: build on. But man, it's been a rough stretch for
- 1:11Speaker 1: the hitters.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a you know.
- 1:14Speaker 4: The positive I will take from that is that if
- 1:17Speaker 4: you're going to go on a long run, you need
- 1:18Speaker 4: quality starting pitching. And to me, they're starting to get that.
- 1:21Speaker 4: We had talked about this back in April May, that
- 1:23Speaker 4: the starting pitching was really consistent, not giving them a
- 1:26Speaker 4: chance to get a lead and hold a lead. They've
- 1:29Speaker 4: been getting the pitching, and I kind of look across
- 1:31Speaker 4: the field during this series. Seattle got off to a
- 1:33Speaker 4: real bad start, but they knew they were going to
- 1:35Speaker 4: have their starting pitching coming back, and now look at them.
- 1:38Speaker 4: To me, that is a World Series contending team with
- 1:41Speaker 4: that starting rotation, and if they can get their back
- 1:43Speaker 4: end both arms going, that team is going to contend
- 1:46Speaker 4: for the World Series. So it gives you hope after
- 1:49Speaker 4: watching that series with what is maybe to come if
- 1:51Speaker 4: they can keep the starting pitching going.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Obviously we know we need the offense to get going.
- 1:55Speaker 4: But I'd say that was a real big positive, is
- 1:56Speaker 4: that the starting pitching is really right there, and they've
- 1:59Speaker 4: been perform over the last even not just the four games,
- 2:02Speaker 4: but I feel like the last three or four weeks
- 2:04Speaker 4: they've been really really good.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Hey, you can say four of the five guys are
- 2:09Speaker 5: really trending in a positive direction. You know, Trevor Rodgers,
- 2:12Speaker 5: I know we talked about him on Sunday, but you
- 2:14Speaker 5: can look at his past four starts. He's got an
- 2:16Speaker 5: ERA of a three to eight in that span. You
- 2:19Speaker 5: will absolutely take that considering the rough patch that he
- 2:22Speaker 5: had before. Then Brandon Young on Tuesday, he did not
- 2:26Speaker 5: have his a game. He fell behind in the count
- 2:29Speaker 5: a lot. But what's the sign of a good pitcher,
- 2:32Speaker 5: you know, not having your top stuff, but still grinding
- 2:34Speaker 5: it out and keeping your team in the ballgame. And
- 2:38Speaker 5: that's exactly what Brandon Young did. Kyle Bradish was just
- 2:41Speaker 5: absolutely filthy yesterday. He was spectacular in that game. He
- 2:46Speaker 5: got eighteen swings and misses in fifteen on the slider
- 2:51Speaker 5: and the curveball in particular. And Brad It's something that
- 2:55Speaker 5: we've talked about a lot because I feel like for
- 2:57Speaker 5: the past month and a half, the Orioles have had
- 3:00Speaker 5: this situation of playing the same team and back to
- 3:03Speaker 5: back weeks, and this was the case with the Mariners
- 3:06Speaker 5: and Bradish. You look at that start last week where
- 3:10Speaker 5: it was not a good start for Kyle Bradish. He
- 3:12Speaker 5: got I believe three swings and misses between his slider
- 3:16Speaker 5: and curveball, and he got fifteen yesterday and and a
- 3:20Speaker 5: career high twelve strikeouts. And then you look at today
- 3:23Speaker 5: guys Shane Bose. It was an unfortunate first inning, all
- 3:27Speaker 5: three runs came with two outs, but then for him
- 3:31Speaker 5: to buckle in and then go scoreless and keep them
- 3:35Speaker 5: in the ballgame, deliver that quality star at seven innings
- 3:38Speaker 5: of three run ball, Yeah, you feel really good about
- 3:41Speaker 5: where this starting pitching is heading.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think when I look at that Kyle
- 3:46Speaker 4: Bradis star yesterday, that was some of the nastiest stuff
- 3:49Speaker 4: we've seen.
- 3:49Speaker 3: This year period.
- 3:50Speaker 4: From I mean any baseball I've watched, I've never seen
- 3:53Speaker 4: swing the missus as bad as he was getting yesterday.
- 3:55Speaker 4: So really awesome yesterday. I mean it was elite stuff
- 3:59Speaker 4: getting ahead with this ball, and then he was just
- 4:01Speaker 4: playing with them. They're swing at these brig balls in
- 4:03Speaker 4: the dirt, and then he's using the fastball to freeze
- 4:05Speaker 4: and when they're looking for the off speed that's going
- 4:07Speaker 4: to be in the dirt. I mean, to have stuff
- 4:09Speaker 4: like that at the major league level, to have make
- 4:11Speaker 4: guys look that bad, his stuff must have just been
- 4:13Speaker 4: absolutely ridiculous to try to hit yesterday.
- 4:18Speaker 1: You know, even a team that's struggling like the Orioles are,
- 4:22Speaker 1: when you got a pitcher going like that, that's like
- 4:25Speaker 1: must see TV. You're, oh, Bradishes, back out, I'm sitting
- 4:28Speaker 1: down here. You want to see what he's going to
- 4:31Speaker 1: do next. It's fun to watch dominate. You go back
- 4:34Speaker 1: to these Clemmens games and even go back to Bob
- 4:37Speaker 1: Gibson for people in my generation to watch these guys
- 4:40Speaker 1: just blow everybody away. And he wasn't doing that, but
- 4:43Speaker 1: he was just throwing good velocity, his usual two seamer.
- 4:48Speaker 1: And was that one of those games they say sometimes
- 4:51Speaker 1: the starting pitcher has like five that are going to
- 4:53Speaker 1: be really bad, five that are going to be top shelf,
- 4:56Speaker 1: and then you figure it out in the rest.
- 4:58Speaker 2: I mean that was one of the top shelf nights.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Yeah, that was definitely one of his top five outings
- 5:05Speaker 4: for the year. You just know when you go out there,
- 5:07Speaker 4: you're not going to get hit, and you could tell
- 5:08Speaker 4: he was. I feel like in the first couple innings
- 5:10Speaker 4: he had a little bit of trouble locating his fastball
- 5:12Speaker 4: kind of died in it, but then from there he
- 5:15Speaker 4: got really like I said, some really bad swings of
- 5:17Speaker 4: misses on his breaking ball, and then he was just
- 5:19Speaker 4: toying with them with the fastball. Oh yeah, and then
- 5:21Speaker 4: it's ninety five to ninety seven coming at you. And
- 5:23Speaker 4: it's just it's got to be impossible all nights like
- 5:25Speaker 4: that to hit guys like him with to have the
- 5:27Speaker 4: stuff that he has.
- 5:29Speaker 6: Yeah, we know that.
- 5:30Speaker 5: This isn't going to be linear for Kyle Bradish. And
- 5:33Speaker 5: he had two poor starts prior to that one, and
- 5:38Speaker 5: at that point it looked like he was back to
- 5:39Speaker 5: being Kyle Bradish. But it's important to remember this is
- 5:42Speaker 5: his first full season coming back from Tommy John. But
- 5:46Speaker 5: that was one of the better starts of his career.
- 5:48Speaker 5: And this is someone that finished top five in cy
- 5:51Speaker 5: Young voting in twenty twenty three. It was his deepest
- 5:54Speaker 5: start since September twenty six, twenty twenty three, the career
- 5:59Speaker 5: high twelve rikeouts. But it's also what Brad was saying,
- 6:03Speaker 5: Like you think of the couple of at bats that
- 6:06Speaker 5: Julio Rodriguez had against Kyle Bradish, there was one in
- 6:10Speaker 5: which he swung at I think the ball bounced three
- 6:13Speaker 5: feet in front of home plate and he's still swung
- 6:16Speaker 5: at it, and even Holio is like, oh my gosh, He's
- 6:18Speaker 5: given him like a look of like wow, man, like
- 6:21Speaker 5: you really got it tonight. And it's a great sign man,
- 6:25Speaker 5: because when Bradish is on like that, that is ace
- 6:28Speaker 5: level stuff.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Fun to watch. But the Orioles are still losing. Why
- 6:35Speaker 1: is that you're screaming at your screen right now your device? Yes,
- 6:39Speaker 1: we know too, and we're gonna get into some of
- 6:41Speaker 1: that at a minute. Some other topics coming up later
- 6:45Speaker 1: on this show. We'll talk about Ryan Helsley's return, what
- 6:47Speaker 1: it could mean for the bullpen. We'll talk about a
- 6:50Speaker 1: very challenging weekend ahead the O's at Dodger Stadium.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Bring the earplugs, local media.
- 6:56Speaker 1: It's gonna be loud there on a Friday and Saturday
- 6:59Speaker 1: night with a full ballpark, and the Orioles are going
- 7:02Speaker 1: to try to beat the team that's won the last
- 7:04Speaker 1: two World Series. So we got a lot to do
- 7:07Speaker 1: here on the show.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Hang with us.
- 7:09Speaker 1: We're just getting rolling for today here on Birdland Territory.
- 7:18Speaker 6: Are you and need some fun plans? Of course?
- 7:21Speaker 5: Well, heading to the ballpark, that's always a great time.
- 7:24Speaker 5: Are you out west seeing the Orioles play well. If
- 7:26Speaker 5: you plan on going to any of the games during
- 7:29Speaker 5: the O's Angels series, I would suggest Monday because Kyle
- 7:33Speaker 5: Bradish lines up to start then and we were just
- 7:36Speaker 5: talking about him and boy was he filthy last night.

- 8:49Speaker 6: Thank you, seak Geek.
- 8:53Speaker 1: So, guys, here's my concern about the Orioles for the
- 8:55Speaker 1: next few weeks and even months at six games under.
- 9:00Speaker 1: They're losing ground again with this season and people are
- 9:03Speaker 1: losing interest. If you run the business for the Orioles,
- 9:07Speaker 1: that's a concerning factor. People are going to find out
- 9:10Speaker 1: different things to do in the summer. They're not going
- 9:12Speaker 1: to read our articles. Heaven forbid. They may miss a
- 9:15Speaker 1: couple editions of Birdland Territory. We don't want anything like that.
- 9:19Speaker 1: But we don't control the wins and losses everybody.
- 9:22Speaker 2: We just don't.
- 9:23Speaker 1: So, I mean it's a concern for me, for the organization,
- 9:26Speaker 1: for the summer, for the team, the players, Brad and Tim.
- 9:31Speaker 2: You get beaten down.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Eventually you keep coming back, you keep being resilient, but
- 9:35Speaker 1: how long can you do it? And right now they
- 9:38Speaker 1: have to do it at least one more time.
- 9:41Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's just getting later, Like we talked about
- 9:45Speaker 4: last episode and the episode before that, it's just getting
- 9:47Speaker 4: close to July, and it's what is this team? I
- 9:50Speaker 4: think as a player, you sit there, you look at
- 9:53Speaker 4: it and say, we're still in this We got a shot.
- 9:55Speaker 3: We're only two and a half games out.
- 9:57Speaker 4: But it's just the inconsistency that we've seen, whether it
- 9:59Speaker 4: was the pitching early on and now I feel like
- 10:01Speaker 4: lately it's just been the offense. And this series kind
- 10:05Speaker 4: of concerned me because I feel like they've been really
- 10:08Speaker 4: home run reliant lately to get those big run games
- 10:11Speaker 4: they've had, and in Seattle, you're just not gonna be
- 10:13Speaker 4: able to do that. I know they had a couple
- 10:14Speaker 4: of the night before, but it's just a hard place
- 10:16Speaker 4: to hit home runs, and when you're facing that kind
- 10:19Speaker 4: of pitching staff, it just gets concerning. And to me,
- 10:21Speaker 4: it's just been the situational hitting with we talked about
- 10:24Speaker 4: a lot this year is the runners in scoring position
- 10:27Speaker 4: less than two outs, they just haven't done a great
- 10:29Speaker 4: job with that, and that, to me, that's winning baseball,
- 10:32Speaker 4: and they just have not been able to do that
- 10:34Speaker 4: to this point in the season. Can you all of
- 10:36Speaker 4: a sudden start to become that kind of a team.
- 10:38Speaker 4: I think it's possible, but I just don't know if
- 10:41Speaker 4: we have the offense to kind of do that. It
- 10:44Speaker 4: just kind of seems like everything kind of lives and
- 10:46Speaker 4: die by the home run. And that's just concerning.
- 10:50Speaker 6: You're starting to see the articles.
- 10:52Speaker 5: August third is the trade deadline, and Jeff Passon, who
- 10:55Speaker 5: covers MLB for ESPN, he just put out a piece
- 10:59Speaker 5: yesterday or the day before, the top one hundred trade ships,
- 11:02Speaker 5: and I saw five Orioles names on that list. So, look,
- 11:07Speaker 5: it's going to start to be talked about the closer
- 11:11Speaker 5: and closer we get to the deadline. And am I
- 11:14Speaker 5: convinced that the Orioles are going to be sellers? No,
- 11:17Speaker 5: in large part because the American League is that bad.
- 11:21Speaker 5: And heading into today's game, they were still a game
- 11:25Speaker 5: and a half out of the wild card. It's crazy
- 11:28Speaker 5: when they were five games under five hundred heading into today.
- 11:31Speaker 5: Now six and they'll possibly lose some ground. But this team,
- 11:36Speaker 5: they just gotta be able to sustain some type of success,
- 11:40Speaker 5: and it looked like they were doing that when they
- 11:43Speaker 5: won ten of fourteen, but now they've responded by losing
- 11:47Speaker 5: what eight of twelve, I believe at this point, and
- 11:50Speaker 5: that's where it's one step forward, one step back, one
- 11:53Speaker 5: step forward, two steps back. And what's really concerning, guys,
- 11:57Speaker 5: is we know what's looming. The Dodgers are the best
- 12:00Speaker 5: team in baseball. They were off today and gosh, the
- 12:04Speaker 5: pitching that they have, the lineup that they have like
- 12:08Speaker 5: that is going to be an uphill to climb this weekend.
- 12:13Speaker 1: That is for sure. Trey Gibson will get the start
- 12:16Speaker 1: Friday night. We'll touch on that a little bit later
- 12:18Speaker 1: this show. So the Oriols are thirty five and forty one,
- 12:22Speaker 1: and yes, Tim, they've lost eight of twelve for at
- 12:24Speaker 1: the last five one and two on this trip. They
- 12:27Speaker 1: had actually won six and tied one series in their
- 12:31Speaker 1: last seven against the Mariners. Against the Mariners, who's been
- 12:34Speaker 1: good for a couple of years, the Orioles had been
- 12:36Speaker 1: beating them until this series, and they lose. So let's
- 12:40Speaker 1: talk about this stat. I just don't know how they're
- 12:43Speaker 1: going to fix this. But in Seattle, one for thirteen
- 12:46Speaker 1: with runners in scoring position. First problem with that stat
- 12:49Speaker 1: is that's not enough chances. That's not getting enough guys
- 12:53Speaker 1: in runners scoring position. And but you're failing there one
- 12:57Speaker 1: for thirteen and then the past six games. I mean,
- 13:01Speaker 1: this is three hits in six games with a runner
- 13:04Speaker 1: in scoring position. I don't know how you win doing that.
- 13:07Speaker 1: And Rio pitching. By the way, guys gave up nine
- 13:09Speaker 1: runs in T Mobile Park in three games. Nine runs.
- 13:14Speaker 1: So can't answer much more than that.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Yeah, and I remember the stat Steve, I think you
- 13:19Speaker 4: brought up it was probably six eight weeks ago now
- 13:21Speaker 4: where they score five runs. They were eight games over
- 13:24Speaker 4: five hundred or seven games over five hundred they scored
- 13:26Speaker 4: three or less and they were like twelve games or
- 13:29Speaker 4: fifteen games under five hundred. So it's kind of the
- 13:32Speaker 4: tail of the tape. At this point. We know exactly
- 13:34Speaker 4: what it's going to take to win. Now, how do
- 13:36Speaker 4: they do that? And to me, it's just been that.
- 13:38Speaker 4: I think that's been the hardest part about the show
- 13:41Speaker 4: is that it's been the same things that we've been
- 13:44Speaker 4: talking about since the second week of April. They haven't
- 13:47Speaker 4: really improved in any of the areas that I feel
- 13:50Speaker 4: like have been causing them to lose games. And that's
- 13:53Speaker 4: the concern for me moving forward is now, does it
- 13:55Speaker 4: magically appear three months into the season, with three months left,
- 13:58Speaker 4: where they start hitting with thens and scoring position, they
- 14:01Speaker 4: start getting the opponents out with two outs. It's still
- 14:04Speaker 4: to me kind of seems like the same type of
- 14:06Speaker 4: thing that's happening, and you just wonder where that boost
- 14:09Speaker 4: is going to come from. Does Pete get super hot
- 14:11Speaker 4: and he starts hitting it runs, Does Wards start hitting
- 14:14Speaker 4: more home runs? Does Henderson turn to the table and
- 14:16Speaker 4: become the lead player. We think those are the biggest
- 14:19Speaker 4: question marks, and I don't think anybody knows the answers
- 14:21Speaker 4: to this point. All we have to go off is
- 14:23Speaker 4: what we've seen so far to almost three months into
- 14:25Speaker 4: the season.
- 14:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I think part of it is Pete's been so
- 14:30Speaker 5: fantastic with runners in scoring position over the course of
- 14:33Speaker 5: his career. You can't really say that this year and look,
- 14:36Speaker 5: Pete in terms of problems is way down the list,
- 14:39Speaker 5: But yeah, he's had the most He's had the most
- 14:41Speaker 5: played appearances with runners in scoring position.
- 14:43Speaker 6: That's just the fact.
- 14:45Speaker 5: Gunner Henderson he's been fantastic with runners in scoring position
- 14:48Speaker 5: throughout his career. He has the second most played appearances
- 14:51Speaker 5: and he hasn't been able to kind of meet that mark.
- 14:55Speaker 6: And they're this deep into the season.
- 14:59Speaker 5: Guy seventy five games in, and I think a question
- 15:04Speaker 5: that I ask myself a lot over the past few
- 15:06Speaker 5: weeks is what is this team's identity? And it's hard
- 15:11Speaker 5: to really pinpoint, and that obviously is not a good
- 15:15Speaker 5: thing when you're almost halfway through the season where we
- 15:18Speaker 5: all thought that this lineup would be a superpower. And
- 15:22Speaker 5: it's not that the lineup's been bad. They're top twelve
- 15:26Speaker 5: in several categories, which is good. You're above average, but
- 15:30Speaker 5: it still hasn't met our expectations yet. You know, we
- 15:34Speaker 5: know the starting pitching and the relief pitching has been
- 15:37Speaker 5: really inconsistent. I guess the one thing I would say,
- 15:40Speaker 5: and I have a check where they've ranked recently. They
- 15:44Speaker 5: have a lot of come from behind wins. They definitely
- 15:46Speaker 5: do not quit. But I just find a hard I
- 15:51Speaker 5: find it hard to pinpoint what this team's identity is
- 15:55Speaker 5: this deep into the year.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Six runs on sixteen hits in three games in Seattle
- 16:00Speaker 1: twice they went three for thirty as a team.
- 16:02Speaker 2: First game of the series.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Last game of the series, Captain Obvious called and said
- 16:07Speaker 1: that is not even close to good enough. Now Here,
- 16:11Speaker 1: some pressure is starting to fall on skipper Craig Albernaz
- 16:16Speaker 1: because of some of the events of the last week
- 16:18Speaker 1: or two, he did not get thrown out in Toronto.
- 16:21Speaker 1: The base running out of base running thing and the
- 16:26Speaker 1: Samuel Bissaio scenario has been talked a lot about on
- 16:30Speaker 1: the airwaves. I've heard it on Tim's show, I read
- 16:33Speaker 1: it on my blog. I see it even in the
- 16:35Speaker 1: comments on this YouTube channel. Fans are starting to point
- 16:39Speaker 1: the finger in his direction. And I guess when it's
- 16:41Speaker 1: going bad, guys, fingers are pointed in all directions, and
- 16:45Speaker 1: how could he avoid it? And I wonder in how
- 16:49Speaker 1: he's truly holding up as a first year rookie manager,
- 16:54Speaker 1: probably feeling he's done a lot right this year, and
- 16:58Speaker 1: yet the results aren't showing it. And now some people
- 17:01Speaker 1: are pointing at his office.
- 17:04Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot of times I've overs heard of saying
- 17:06Speaker 4: that when the team's doing well, it's the players, and
- 17:08Speaker 4: when the team's doing bad, it's the manager of the coach.
- 17:10Speaker 4: And it's just kind of the nature of the beast
- 17:13Speaker 4: of it. And I mean, to me, I think he's
- 17:15Speaker 4: done a good job handling kind of everything that's been
- 17:17Speaker 4: coming his way. I think, like we said, it's just
- 17:20Speaker 4: he can't go up there and make these guys hit
- 17:22Speaker 4: with two outs and got less than two outs, and
- 17:24Speaker 4: guys at the scoring position. I think they've done a
- 17:26Speaker 4: good job of making adjustments on I in particular, the
- 17:29Speaker 4: fielding I feel like has gotten way better. So that
- 17:31Speaker 4: comes directly from him. He's called it out.
- 17:35Speaker 3: You know.
- 17:35Speaker 4: I just I don't see him that he's the guy
- 17:39Speaker 4: to blame when it comes to all this. But it's
- 17:41Speaker 4: just obviously that's the nature of the business when you're
- 17:43Speaker 4: a manager of the major leagues and with the team
- 17:45Speaker 4: that had the expectations that they have.
- 17:48Speaker 5: Maybe this is me giving him way too much of
- 17:51Speaker 5: a pass, but I just I find it difficult to
- 17:55Speaker 5: put a ton on Craig albern has Now. I will
- 17:58Speaker 5: fully admit that was a really bizarre week for him.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Last week.
- 18:03Speaker 5: Samuel Bosio situation was very odd. I thought how he
- 18:06Speaker 5: handled Gunner Henderson getting plunked basically taking up for the padres,
- 18:11Speaker 5: that was very odd. But outside of that, guys, I look,
- 18:16Speaker 5: are there some decisions that we can second guess? And
- 18:18Speaker 5: you can always Monday morning quarterback and you're we watch
- 18:21Speaker 5: these games so intently, sure, but ultimately you can say
- 18:26Speaker 5: the same thing about every single manager over the course
- 18:28Speaker 5: of one hundred and sixty two games. This is a
- 18:31Speaker 5: rookie skipper, and this is someone that's, you know, finding
- 18:34Speaker 5: his way, and there's going to be growing pains along
- 18:36Speaker 5: the way. I just I find it difficult to put
- 18:41Speaker 5: a ton of this team's shortcomings at Craig on Craig Alberanaz.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I agree with you, Tim, and I think in a bigger,
- 18:51Speaker 1: forty thousand foot view, you got to bring ownership in this,
- 18:54Speaker 1: and ownership now, if Elias is on the hot seat
- 18:58Speaker 1: and they're potentially gonna sell at the deadline, do you
- 19:02Speaker 1: want the front office selling? That may not be your
- 19:05Speaker 1: front office in three or four months. There's so many
- 19:08Speaker 1: factors swirling here in Birdland, and you've got a rookie
- 19:13Speaker 1: owner and he's got a lot of good people around him, obviously,
- 19:15Speaker 1: and he can call anybody once in the game and
- 19:18Speaker 1: get opinions. But it's an interesting time in Birdland and
- 19:22Speaker 1: a lot of different offices.
- 19:26Speaker 5: I feel like I brought up twenty eighteen a lot,
- 19:28Speaker 5: and I know it's not a like for like, but
- 19:31Speaker 5: I think a lot of people were asking that's good question.
- 19:33Speaker 6: Then, like Dan Duquat Bucks Showalter.
- 19:35Speaker 5: They were both on expiring contracts, and Dan ended up
- 19:38Speaker 5: operating that trade deadline and traded away a ton of
- 19:42Speaker 5: the team, including new Brad. And it's it's a weird situation,
- 19:48Speaker 5: I really, and especially if it gets to that point.
- 19:52Speaker 5: And again we're still month and a half away, but
- 19:55Speaker 5: if Mike is on the hot seat, like do you
- 19:58Speaker 5: want him handling that possible Adlee Rutchman decision, because you
- 20:02Speaker 5: know teams are going to be calling about him, and
- 20:05Speaker 5: he would wouldn't be a rental because he's under club
- 20:08Speaker 5: control for twenty twenty seven. It would be a very
- 20:11Speaker 5: difficult situation for this team, this organization, Michaelai is everyone
- 20:17Speaker 5: to be in if it gets to that point.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Brad, Yeah, And to me, I think the biggest concern
- 20:22Speaker 4: I have about the organization as a whole is if
- 20:25Speaker 4: you get to the trade deadline, you trade away these guys,
- 20:28Speaker 4: who's going to replace them? To me, it's like the
- 20:30Speaker 4: guys they have right now, they've already tested their death already,
- 20:34Speaker 4: and there's still nobody knocking down the door that has
- 20:36Speaker 4: to get to Baltimore.
- 20:37Speaker 3: So who are you going to turn to?
- 20:38Speaker 4: Does that mean it's going to be another uh just
- 20:41Speaker 4: turn over the leaf and go way back to losing
- 20:43Speaker 4: one hundred games again.
- 20:44Speaker 3: And it's just I just that would be that would.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Break my heart for Oriols fans because you just felt
- 20:50Speaker 4: like the window was there twenty twenty three, twenty twenty three,
- 20:53Speaker 4: they won the division.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Right, I think.
- 20:54Speaker 4: So it's like you think about that season and it's
- 20:57Speaker 4: how does it get How has it gotten to this
- 20:58Speaker 4: point where you're trading at the line, thinking about trade
- 21:01Speaker 4: away Aley, thinking about trade away these guys.
- 21:03Speaker 3: It's just like, does the window get that short?
- 21:05Speaker 4: And now you're gonna go back to what it was
- 21:07Speaker 4: from eighteen to twenty three. I just that would break
- 21:09Speaker 4: my heart for Ools fans because they deserve way better.
- 21:12Speaker 4: And I just hope this team can get going for
- 21:14Speaker 4: that sake alone, that they don't get to the trade
- 21:16Speaker 4: deadline and they're not sellers. At least keep some hope
- 21:18Speaker 4: in Baltimore for this team.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Heavy duty stuff today on Birdland TERRITORYOS fans. The game
- 21:26Speaker 1: may have been a little dull today, the show is not. Man,
- 21:29Speaker 1: we are not avoiding everything. It's front and center and
- 21:33Speaker 1: it just is I mean, that's the position the Oriols
- 21:35Speaker 1: have left everybody in right now at thirty five and
- 21:38Speaker 1: forty one. When we come back, I'm going to lighten
- 21:41Speaker 1: the mood and throw out a minor league note or
- 21:42Speaker 1: two that'll be interesting for you to hear, and my
- 21:46Speaker 1: trip and Bowie yesterday I had a great time, and
- 21:49Speaker 1: more coming up on Birdland Territory.

- 22:50Speaker 7: one eight hundred gambler.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Well, I had some fun yesterday.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I went to Bowie and I got to catch up
- 22:57Speaker 1: with some of the Bay Socks. They've got some very
- 22:59Speaker 1: interesting players. Wrote a big story today on my substack
- 23:02Speaker 1: and you can find me right here if you'd like
- 23:05Speaker 1: to know where to find that. On Louis stalely on
- 23:08Speaker 1: twenty three year old left hand ear. He was a
- 23:09Speaker 1: top one hundred pitcher preseason. HISZRA is six right now.
- 23:14Speaker 1: So I went in search of what's going on? Do
- 23:17Speaker 1: the Oriel still feel good about this kid? What's he
- 23:19Speaker 1: got to work on? And had a great interview with
- 23:22Speaker 1: Jeremy Hilman and the pitching coach at Dohchesapeake to touch
- 23:26Speaker 1: on that. So hopefully you get a chance to check
- 23:29Speaker 1: it out on my substack. I really like this kid,
- 23:32Speaker 1: Louis stale One. I saw him pitcher last night. It
- 23:35Speaker 1: was mixed results. Defense wasn't great to him, but he
- 23:37Speaker 1: showed some of the swinging this stuff that he's got
- 23:40Speaker 1: against a Richmond hitting team. It's the best in the
- 23:42Speaker 1: Eastern League this year. Also guys tonight and by the
- 23:46Speaker 1: time people watch this we may know the result. But
- 23:48Speaker 1: Thursday night, the Frederick Keyes played the final game of
- 23:52Speaker 1: the first half. If they win, they clinch a playoff
- 23:56Speaker 1: berth This is their first year back. Remember since they
- 24:00Speaker 1: were contracted before the twenty twenty one season. Frederick fans
- 24:04Speaker 1: are baseball crazy. They love the Keys. I am rooting
- 24:08Speaker 1: hard for them to win tonight or Greensboro to lose
- 24:11Speaker 1: would get them in. And Frederick is playing six thirty
- 24:14Speaker 1: five baseball Seven top thirty prospects are on that team,
- 24:18Speaker 1: including three of the top five Nate George, Ike Irish
- 24:21Speaker 1: and Beheva Alloy.
- 24:22Speaker 2: JT.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Quinn is a rank prospect pitching the game to night.
- 24:26Speaker 1: I noticed quickly at the break here that the Keys
- 24:28Speaker 1: are have an early lead. Already Steve's checking the score.
- 24:31Speaker 1: But Frederick has had eleven playoff appearances over the years,
- 24:34Speaker 1: representing the Orioles. Four times they won Carolina League championships
- 24:39Speaker 1: and the last one I saw when Manny Machado and
- 24:41Speaker 1: Jonathan Scope led the way in twenty eleven. That's how
- 24:45Speaker 1: long ago was so at what a great return to
- 24:48Speaker 1: Berdland that would be for Frederick. These teams the minor
- 24:52Speaker 1: leagues now play halves. These records go to zero zero
- 24:55Speaker 1: tomorrow after tonight, and so if you win and get in,
- 24:59Speaker 1: you'll be in the player off sometime in September. But
- 25:02Speaker 1: they'll packed that ballpark at Harry Grove and the team
- 25:05Speaker 1: may be totally different by the way when they get
- 25:07Speaker 1: to the playoffs. You guys, but this team has had
- 25:10Speaker 1: a great first half and I hope they can finish
- 25:12Speaker 1: it off tonight.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Brad.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Were you ever involved in a minor league championship or
- 25:16Speaker 1: a pennant race?
- 25:17Speaker 2: What's it like on the farm?
- 25:19Speaker 4: Yeah, it's funny you said that. In two thousand and nine. Now,
- 25:23Speaker 4: I played in Port Wayne, Indiana. They had just built
- 25:25Speaker 4: a brand new stadium downtown and had a lot of
- 25:27Speaker 4: flak from the community. They had a lot of government
- 25:30Speaker 4: funding that they used to do the stadium, and we
- 25:33Speaker 4: end up winning.
- 25:33Speaker 3: One hundred games. We went like one hundred and forty two,
- 25:35Speaker 3: won the championship. It was unbelievable. The group that I
- 25:38Speaker 3: played with throughout the minor leagues.
- 25:39Speaker 4: We won the Low A Championship, we won the first
- 25:43Speaker 4: half in High A Double A we won the championship,
- 25:46Speaker 4: and then obviously when you get the Triple A, it's
- 25:47Speaker 4: a little different and gets to that level. But had
- 25:50Speaker 4: unbelievable runs in the playoffs. It's really fun when you're
- 25:52Speaker 4: down there and you get to the playoffs. You finally
- 25:55Speaker 4: get to play winning baseball. It's not about this guy pitching,
- 25:58Speaker 4: this manetings that guy. You get to the playoffs, that's
- 26:01Speaker 4: your chance to get a feel of what it's like
- 26:03Speaker 4: at the major leagues and try to win games. So
- 26:05Speaker 4: I was fortunate enough to be a part of two
- 26:06Speaker 4: championships and we had such a great time. The city
- 26:09Speaker 4: of Fort Wing came around us and it was just
- 26:11Speaker 4: an absolute blast that summer with the guys I got
- 26:14Speaker 4: to play with.
- 26:16Speaker 1: As a broadcaster, I got to be part of a
- 26:18Speaker 1: championship with the Richmond Braves back in nineteen eighty nine.
- 26:21Speaker 1: That's how back we're going on back. We're going talking
- 26:24Speaker 1: about Ron Gant, David Justice, Kent Burker, guys like that.
- 26:27Speaker 2: We're on that team.
- 26:29Speaker 1: But one of the greatest nights of my life, guys,
- 26:31Speaker 1: was watching Bowie win the Double A Eastern League in
- 26:33Speaker 1: twenty fifteen. Mancini and Mike Yastremsky were two leaders on
- 26:37Speaker 1: that team. They had some veteran guys like Brandon Snyder
- 26:40Speaker 1: showing them the way. And I was so happy for
- 26:42Speaker 1: Gary Kendall, this guy bled Orange and Black. He no
- 26:45Speaker 1: longer works for the Orioles, but they've never had an
- 26:48Speaker 1: employee who loved Baltimore and oriol baseball more to see
- 26:51Speaker 1: him win a championship that night, I remember it like
- 26:55Speaker 1: it happened today. I mean, it was so fun in
- 26:58Speaker 1: the celebration at night. They doused those kids in each
- 27:03Speaker 1: other forever it was Niagara Falls in the Booie Clubhouse.
- 27:08Speaker 5: It was.
- 27:08Speaker 1: It was just unbelievable anyway, great memory, So good luck
- 27:12Speaker 1: to Frederick. I hope by the time some people see this,
- 27:14Speaker 1: maybe they will be a first half champion in the
- 27:17Speaker 1: South Atlantic League. We got a sweet final comments. The
- 27:20Speaker 1: O's are headed for the Dodgers. Yikes, Dodger Stadium next
- 27:25Speaker 1: in Berdland.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Big Bad Morning.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Show Finnie and Hany Inside Access live on YouTube.
- 27:33Speaker 6: Weekdays six till six. Search Baltimore one, O five seven
- 27:37Speaker 6: the Fan.
- 27:37Speaker 5: Subscribe for daily shorts right to your phone and never
- 27:40Speaker 5: missed what you missed. One O five seven.
- 27:43Speaker 2: The fan, those fans, I know what you're thinking.
- 27:46Speaker 1: The Oils are gonna get rolled this weekend because the
- 27:49Speaker 1: Dodgers are forty eight and twenty seven. The Dodgers since
- 27:53Speaker 1: early May are playing seven to twenty seven ball. They
- 27:56Speaker 1: just swept the Rays, two time World Series champs. They've
- 28:00Speaker 1: got it all and so guys, they've got to figure
- 28:04Speaker 1: out a way. I think one win probably oriel fans
- 28:06Speaker 1: would be happy too, maybe would be shocked.
- 28:11Speaker 4: Hey, no better way to get going again than against
- 28:14Speaker 4: the defending two time world champions.
- 28:16Speaker 3: You know it's la is gonna be bumping. It always is.
- 28:18Speaker 4: It's a great statement to play at the energy on
- 28:20Speaker 4: the weekend there is second to none.
- 28:22Speaker 3: So there's no reason not to get up with these games.
- 28:24Speaker 4: And if you want to do it, you're gonna you
- 28:25Speaker 4: want to do it against the best in the world.
- 28:27Speaker 3: They're gonna see some really good pitching.
- 28:29Speaker 5: Uh.
- 28:30Speaker 4: You just got to hope that they can turn around.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Maybe this could be that point we look back at
- 28:33Speaker 4: the end of the season and say they really got
- 28:35Speaker 4: it going against the Dodgers, against the best there is,
- 28:38Speaker 4: and you just never know that. That's the beauty of
- 28:40Speaker 4: Major League baseball when you go out every single night,
- 28:42Speaker 4: the pitcher could have it going on and you could
- 28:44Speaker 4: win any game and any time, who knows, they could
- 28:46Speaker 4: sweep this weekend. Gotta be positive if you, if you're
- 28:49Speaker 4: Oriols fans, just go out there. They're gonna be pumped up.
- 28:51Speaker 4: It's a great place to play at and hopefully they
- 28:53Speaker 4: go out there and get at.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Least two wins.
- 28:56Speaker 5: But that's just baseball, right Brad, Like I think that
- 28:59Speaker 5: boy is during twenty fourteen, Like I remember the Orioles
- 29:02Speaker 5: obviously fantastic season that year. I think you guys did
- 29:06Speaker 5: did you guys get swept at Wrigley?
- 29:08Speaker 6: Like the Cubs were so down?
- 29:10Speaker 5: I remember that being like a like a big surprise, like,
- 29:13Speaker 5: oh my god, what the heck happened? You know with
- 29:14Speaker 5: the O's, But that happens. And last year was just
- 29:18Speaker 5: such a down year for the Orioles. But the craziest
- 29:22Speaker 5: game they played it was the thirtieth anniversary at twenty
- 29:25Speaker 5: one thirty one. Yamamoto's on the mound, he's won out
- 29:28Speaker 5: away from throwing a no hitter at cam Vinyards and
- 29:32Speaker 5: the Orioles ended up walking and off that game. So
- 29:36Speaker 5: look Obviously on paper it does not look great for
- 29:40Speaker 5: the Orioles, but that's just baseball.
- 29:42Speaker 6: Like weird things happened.
- 29:44Speaker 5: They could go out, they could win, win the series
- 29:46Speaker 5: and shock people. But you know, nothing really surprises you
- 29:50Speaker 5: in this game.
- 29:51Speaker 1: I was talking with Bollie yesterday with some people who
- 29:53Speaker 1: know Trey Gibson well. They felt, to a man, he
- 29:58Speaker 1: will step up and give his very best Friday Night
- 30:01Speaker 1: now against this team. It may not be good enough,
- 30:04Speaker 1: but they did not feel that incident that happened with
- 30:07Speaker 1: hitting the batter in the head and then all the
- 30:09Speaker 1: bru high with Gunner will impact him five days later.
- 30:14Speaker 2: I hope not. It's gonna be interesting to watch.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 30:19Speaker 4: I don't know how many rookies will get a start
- 30:21Speaker 4: at Dodger Stadium and Yankee Stadium in the same year,
- 30:23Speaker 4: so he'll always have that on his resume no matter what.
- 30:26Speaker 4: And everything I've seen from him, he's super even keeled.
- 30:30Speaker 4: Even his first start at Yankee Stadium, he looked cool,
- 30:32Speaker 4: calm and collected. So there's nothing that's gonna uh he's
- 30:36Speaker 4: gonna see there that he hasn't seen before. It's yes,
- 30:38Speaker 4: it's Dodger Stadium. It's a little bit bigger and all
- 30:40Speaker 4: that stuff, But I just feel like nothing's gonna face
- 30:42Speaker 4: him when he goes out there, and he's gonna give
- 30:44Speaker 4: up a chance to get a win, and he's going
- 30:46Speaker 4: to continue this starting pitching streak that they have going
- 30:49Speaker 4: on here and just kind of give the guys a
- 30:51Speaker 4: chance to win. That's all you can ask from a
- 30:53Speaker 4: starting pitcher and go out there and enjoy it.
- 30:56Speaker 5: Going a step further with that, Brad, and I'd have
- 30:59Speaker 5: to look this up. I'm willing to bet it might
- 31:01Speaker 5: be history for him to not only his rookie year,
- 31:05Speaker 5: make a start at a Yankee stadium in Dodger Stadium
- 31:08Speaker 5: in his first five starts.
- 31:10Speaker 6: This is a start.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Yeah tomorrow, Like, I can't imagine five.
- 31:14Speaker 6: That's crazy. That is crazy.
- 31:17Speaker 3: That is crazy. I can't imagine how good guys doing that.
- 31:20Speaker 1: We couldn't fit Fenway Parking there. So I mean, listen,
- 31:26Speaker 1: hopefully the Oriels making a fun weekend for us and
- 31:29Speaker 1: don't get rolled by the Dodgers and have competitive games,
- 31:32Speaker 1: give us a lot to talk about when we reconvene
- 31:34Speaker 1: in a couple of days. Enjoyable show, guys, Even if
- 31:37Speaker 1: the game today was not thanks to Tim and the
- 31:40Speaker 1: Brad Steve Moleski with you and be with us next time. Man.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Glad you watched today.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Hope you subscribe to Birdland Territory in SP
