- 0:58Speaker 2: The Worlds of Vigeon podcast Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. So
- 1:09Speaker 2: we should think if we get to him and some
- 1:11Speaker 2: anecdotes that you know happened when we were here, like hey,
- 1:14Speaker 2: you know you remember this or that.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't necessarily need to go on that rabbit hole.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Did you ever have any like like fun interactions with him?
- 1:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I had a lot of fine terms. It was
- 1:25Speaker 3: always the butt of his jokes. It wasn't like he
- 1:27Speaker 3: picked on me. He picked on everybody, including built here.
- 1:30Speaker 2: It comes. Okay, bring him in, don't be nervous, let's go.
- 1:34Speaker 5: Let's go.
- 1:35Speaker 3: You've done before.
- 1:38Speaker 6: Retirement.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I've been billing you as the professional ballbuster, and of
- 1:43Speaker 3: course you come in shooting.
- 1:44Speaker 2: So my first question to you is what gets served
- 1:47Speaker 2: at lunch to the new head coach of.
- 1:48Speaker 7: The knowing the Patriots chicken salad?
- 1:50Speaker 2: All right, Well, we had our first sit down with
- 1:53Speaker 2: Mike Rabel. I hope it's not our last.
- 1:54Speaker 3: I say, probably the last. Ye Fred and I were
- 1:56Speaker 3: trying to explain to before the press conference what his Mike.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Rabel is like.
- 2:01Speaker 3: That's it.
- 2:01Speaker 2: No, he came right in, firing rockets right off the bat,
- 2:04Speaker 2: making fun of us.
- 2:05Speaker 3: That's a professional ball buster. Yeah, Shady Acres Retirement Home.
- 2:10Speaker 1: This is Patriot's Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website. For deals,

- 2:18Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 2:22Speaker 2: at j A Let's Stadium, day two of the Mike
- 2:25Speaker 2: Vrabel regime.
- 2:27Speaker 3: We got a lot of mileage out of that Shady
- 2:29Speaker 3: Acres Retirement home.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Yeah. That that got a lot of traffic yesterday.
- 2:34Speaker 3: You're welcome.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, good stuff.
- 2:36Speaker 8: In the butt of the joke, we're welcome out.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I mean we we we sold him as a ball buster,
- 2:42Speaker 2: and the first thing he did is busted our balls.
- 2:44Speaker 3: And I really liked and we we clipped off the
- 2:47Speaker 3: part or someone clipped off the part anyway of Evans,
- 2:50Speaker 3: you know, recommendation of power. Yeah, and I thought that
- 2:54Speaker 3: a lot of people people don't some people people don't
- 2:57Speaker 3: know ball.
- 2:57Speaker 2: They don't think that you were genuine. They can't believe
- 3:01Speaker 2: like you didn't mention mesh.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Well, that's that's that's not a run play. That's also
- 3:06Speaker 3: fred right, Well you can have the mesh point on
- 3:08Speaker 3: the zone read.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
- 3:10Speaker 5: Yea as a play, as as a name of passing concept.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:20Speaker 5: A lot of people, you know, were, oh, that's the
- 3:22Speaker 5: best you could come up with. Well, I didn't want
- 3:24Speaker 5: to come out and be like, you know, something like
- 3:26Speaker 5: ridiculous and have him be like okay, buddy, like calm down.
- 3:30Speaker 2: That's what I was hoping for. I wanted good will hunting.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I wanted Puerto Rico. Yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 5: I was like, you know what, I'm going to stick
- 3:38Speaker 5: to the tried and true, one of the best plays
- 3:40Speaker 5: in ball power.
- 3:41Speaker 3: I thought you hindled it really well. I have to
- 3:43Speaker 3: be honest with you, and as you know, I would
- 3:45Speaker 3: say so if I didn't believe.
- 3:46Speaker 5: That, that's that's why it means a lot coming down.
- 3:49Speaker 8: It should that's well, then it gets spun into we're
- 3:51Speaker 8: bringing the full back back like he just was apparently
- 3:54Speaker 8: what you said.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Did you see someone's actually Mike Rabel said they're bringing
- 3:58Speaker 3: a full backround. That's not what he said. Multiple people
- 4:00Speaker 3: would have said.
- 4:02Speaker 2: They're bringing back Yakub Johnson.
- 4:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm okay, we can you know, they can speculate
- 4:07Speaker 5: all they want.
- 4:08Speaker 2: But it was fun. It was fun to do that.
- 4:10Speaker 2: It was a good day. Yesterday. I was talking to
- 4:14Speaker 2: somebody in the media and they said, it just felt
- 4:16Speaker 2: like football's back, you know, in the building. It's a
- 4:19Speaker 2: good feeling after.
- 4:20Speaker 3: It's a good day, I mean for us, especially because
- 4:23Speaker 3: he came by and gave us ten minutes or fifteen minutes,
- 4:26Speaker 3: whatever it was. But yeah, I mean, I think listening
- 4:29Speaker 3: to him talk about accountability and you know, talking about
- 4:33Speaker 3: the sense of entitlement that might have existed, I think
- 4:36Speaker 3: there's gonna be some changes. I think it was a
- 4:37Speaker 3: good day.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I learned yesterday. Maybe I had known it and
- 4:42Speaker 2: I forgot, but he's an only child. I didn't know that.
- 4:46Speaker 3: I didn't know it either.
- 4:47Speaker 4: I did.
- 4:47Speaker 2: No.
- 4:48Speaker 8: No, it's kind of surprising because I feel like that.
- 4:50Speaker 8: His attitude kind of reeks of brothers. Yeah, just constantly
- 4:54Speaker 8: harassing each other, usually only kids.
- 4:56Speaker 2: I mean yeah, like growing up? Was he just like
- 4:58Speaker 2: making fun of his parents? How did that work?
- 5:02Speaker 3: So?
- 5:02Speaker 2: Butday, I thought that was interesting, Not that all only
- 5:06Speaker 2: children are the same, but he thought enough to say that.
- 5:12Speaker 2: He was like he thought it had an effect on
- 5:16Speaker 2: his childhood and growing up.
- 5:19Speaker 3: So I was one of three kids. I was spoiled.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I did know that me too. I did know that
- 5:25Speaker 2: both his parents were educators. I knew that from when
- 5:29Speaker 2: he was here. So good stuff. Yeah, all right. So
- 5:33Speaker 2: now now he's got to get down to business, and
- 5:35Speaker 2: the coordinator search has started. I'm guessing they're gonna talk
- 5:41Speaker 2: to quite a few people on both sides of the ball.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I didn't get the impression it was going to be
- 5:46Speaker 3: done quickly.
- 5:46Speaker 2: No, No, yeah, that's it. Nobody has somebody worn out
- 5:53Speaker 2: from yesterday.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Or we talked about a lot of the possibilities, you know,
- 5:57Speaker 3: Evan put a post up on pages dot com today. Yeah,
- 6:01Speaker 3: maybe yesterday.
- 6:01Speaker 5: Very nice to me today, Paul, Well, I mean it
- 6:03Speaker 5: is what it is.
- 6:04Speaker 3: You did it right, I mean I would say, Mike
- 6:07Speaker 3: did it.
- 6:08Speaker 5: I pointed Anna, like he's he's he's working something up.
- 6:13Speaker 8: I'm going I'm still going to at the defensive siety.
- 6:15Speaker 2: He's grinding guys defense. But I mean, I will say everything.
- 6:21Speaker 2: You got that with the mind hand. But I do think.
- 6:23Speaker 8: Everyone's focused on the offense, and you guys know me,
- 6:26Speaker 8: I like I like the defensive side of the ball
- 6:27Speaker 8: a little bit. So it's, uh, it's been fun this morning.
- 6:30Speaker 8: I've just been jumping into Tennessee and seeing, you know,
- 6:32Speaker 8: just sematically what they did, and you know, we'll live
- 6:35Speaker 8: with what their philosophies are. And I just, yeah, I wonder,
- 6:38Speaker 8: I wonder what he's you know, gonna do. Certainly a
- 6:40Speaker 8: huge influence of Romeo Crnell and danps which were you know,
- 6:43Speaker 8: both guys that were defensive coordinators here.
- 6:45Speaker 2: So I like what he said on THEEI today the
- 6:49Speaker 2: best because they asked them, you know, people afraid you're
- 6:51Speaker 2: going to be grounded practice. Our best player was Derrick Henry.
- 6:55Speaker 2: What else are we gonna do? Yeah, that's perfect, That's
- 6:58Speaker 2: exactly the answer I'm looking for. Draft another J. Brown like,
- 7:02Speaker 2: you know, find out who your best players are and
- 7:05Speaker 2: you taylor your offense around them.
- 7:07Speaker 5: Yeah, when you hear that sort of thing from an
- 7:09Speaker 5: offensive perspective, it just screams Josh McDaniels to me, like
- 7:13Speaker 5: a guy that has the birth and the knowledge to
- 7:16Speaker 5: if we're good at this, we'll do this. If we're
- 7:18Speaker 5: good at that, we'll do that. And a lot of
- 7:20Speaker 5: these guys that come up, they're they're one system guys,
- 7:23Speaker 5: right like you're you're an outside zone team, or you're
- 7:26Speaker 5: you know, you're a spread team or whatever. Well, maybe
- 7:29Speaker 5: the Patriots don't have the speed to be a spread team,
- 7:32Speaker 5: you know, maybe they don't have the offensive line to
- 7:35Speaker 5: be a zone blocking team. You know, how can you adjust?
- 7:38Speaker 5: And I always felt like McDaniels, it was really good
- 7:41Speaker 5: at the ebbs and flows of this is what we're
- 7:44Speaker 5: good at. This is what's working today. You know, just
- 7:46Speaker 5: going back to the last Super Bowl, he ran the
- 7:48Speaker 5: same play three times in a row to get it.
- 7:50Speaker 5: You know, if you can't stop it, we're just gonna
- 7:52Speaker 5: keep running it, you know. And I don't think he's
- 7:54Speaker 5: afraid to do that sort of stuff.
- 7:56Speaker 2: So would you say that? And I'm gonna be careful
- 8:00Speaker 2: what I say here. That compared to Tom Brady, it's
- 8:06Speaker 2: a more open book in terms of the playbook with
- 8:09Speaker 2: Drake May like you can do more things.
- 8:13Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely, I mean there's I think there's a lot
- 8:15Speaker 5: more schematically on the menu because the quarterback is a
- 8:18Speaker 5: dual threat, right, so you know that ability to.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Run are the things you can't do.
- 8:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that you don't want to put as
- 8:25Speaker 5: much on the quarterback mentally at the line of scrimmage
- 8:28Speaker 5: like they had on Brady. That'd be one question with
- 8:30Speaker 5: Josh is you know, or you can have him making
- 8:33Speaker 5: all the calls and the checks and all the protections
- 8:35Speaker 5: and all that kind of stuff, or are you gonna,
- 8:38Speaker 5: you know, give that maybe to David Andrews or you know,
- 8:41Speaker 5: how are you going to pass that sort of thing?
- 8:43Speaker 5: But in terms of what's available to him, I mean
- 8:47Speaker 5: they weren't running zone reads with Tom Brady. They weren't
- 8:50Speaker 5: moving the pocket, you know, on bootlegs and things like
- 8:52Speaker 5: that with Tom Brady. So as much as Brady did
- 8:56Speaker 5: a million things, well he also you know, had limitations
- 8:58Speaker 5: athletically and now you won't.
- 9:01Speaker 2: So is it to me like whatever the playbook was
- 9:05Speaker 2: with Tom, throw it out, throw it out and start
- 9:09Speaker 2: fresh with this guy. Yeah, you know, And if McDaniels
- 9:12Speaker 2: can do that great. Great. The thing you know everybody's
- 9:16Speaker 2: worried about is he's going to be a holdover from
- 9:18Speaker 2: those days. I think a good a good coordinator, a
- 9:21Speaker 2: good coach worth assault has to look at the players
- 9:25Speaker 2: he has and and start there.
- 9:28Speaker 8: Yeah, well you think of Josh looking at what Drake
- 9:30Speaker 8: can do. I mean he wants I mean, if it
- 9:32Speaker 8: was to be him, he would be excited, right like.
- 9:33Speaker 8: I mean, you've got a kid who's got everything on
- 9:35Speaker 8: the plate for you, whatever you want to try to do.
- 9:38Speaker 8: You know, you've had some time to reflect. Now we
- 9:40Speaker 8: talked about, you know, him making the rounds about college.
- 9:42Speaker 8: I mean, I'm sure there are some, you know, new
- 9:44Speaker 8: things that he wants to do. The famous story of
- 9:46Speaker 8: bn O seven, how we you know, took things to
- 9:48Speaker 8: a different level when they got Moss and all those receivers.
- 9:50Speaker 8: But I think Josh has grown on me a little
- 9:52Speaker 8: bit more. Not that I was ever off at Josh.
- 9:54Speaker 8: I was just kind of like, I love Josh, that'd
- 9:55Speaker 8: be great, but I'd love to see what's out there.
- 9:57Speaker 8: I just a little bit of concern with are we
- 10:00Speaker 8: going to have a first time coordinator again? And some
- 10:02Speaker 8: of the growing pains we saw with play calling with
- 10:04Speaker 8: Alex van Pelt last year, where you know he was
- 10:07Speaker 8: one of you know, first to admit some of the
- 10:09Speaker 8: mistakes some of the play calls he wants to have back.
- 10:11Speaker 8: You know, that's just what's best for Drake. And there's
- 10:14Speaker 8: just something appealing about Josh of he knows what he's doing. Yes,
- 10:18Speaker 8: there might be some change from the offenses which could
- 10:21Speaker 8: complicate things a little bit, and I think, you know,
- 10:23Speaker 8: it's something to consider it, but you also that he's
- 10:25Speaker 8: probably here for the long haul. He's really gonna you know,
- 10:27Speaker 8: could potentially just be that guy that cements the offense
- 10:30Speaker 8: down and you know, sticks with Drake and and really
- 10:33Speaker 8: makes that like the second part of his legacy here
- 10:36Speaker 8: in New England is you know coming back and you know,
- 10:39Speaker 8: making that whole thing continue to grow from ounce m Pelt.
- 10:41Speaker 8: I just I'm a little bit concerned with some of
- 10:43Speaker 8: these new offensive coordinators if there would be some growing
- 10:46Speaker 8: pains and things that we'd have to be like, look,
- 10:48Speaker 8: it's you know, Tommy Reese, it's his first time. He's
- 10:50Speaker 8: you know, he's he's gonna get it, but we need
- 10:52Speaker 8: to you know, give him some landing strip to get
- 10:55Speaker 8: you know used to it.
- 10:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm with you one hundred percent on that. I mean,
- 10:58Speaker 5: it's a young quarterback that it still needs developing. Like
- 11:01Speaker 5: Drake's not a finished product. You're going to hand him
- 11:04Speaker 5: over to Tommy Reese who's thirty two years old, and
- 11:07Speaker 5: you're going to have the franchise basically in his hands, uh,
- 11:11Speaker 5: to continue his development. If it's a guy like Tommy Reaves,
- 11:14Speaker 5: even a guy like Josh McCown who might have a
- 11:16Speaker 5: little bit more of an NFL resume, I still would
- 11:19Speaker 5: really like to see some sort of senior offensive assistant
- 11:23Speaker 5: hired to pair with that player, maybe to call plays,
- 11:26Speaker 5: but to just be there and make sure that things
- 11:29Speaker 5: are the way that they should be. So so, I
- 11:34Speaker 5: mean I was talking to you guys about this yesterday
- 11:36Speaker 5: a little bit after the show like that, to me,
- 11:40Speaker 5: if you're gonna keep Tommy Reese, I would go to
- 11:42Speaker 5: Alex van Pell and I make a pitch. We're gonna
- 11:45Speaker 5: need the same salary we're gonna but you're just not
- 11:47Speaker 5: gonna be the play caller and we're gonna give Tommy
- 11:49Speaker 5: res is gonna be the offensive coordinator. You're gonna be
- 11:52Speaker 5: the senior offensive assistant slash quarterbacks coach, and we're just
- 11:57Speaker 5: gonna have you keep doing your work with Drake and
- 12:00Speaker 5: keep on doing what you guys are doing. Reese was
- 12:02Speaker 5: just in Cleveland, so it's he knows the system. We're
- 12:05Speaker 5: not going to change the system. We just need somebody
- 12:08Speaker 5: that can live in it up a little bit, that
- 12:10Speaker 5: can be a little bit more creative with the play
- 12:12Speaker 5: design and maybe you know that would be Tommy Reese.
- 12:14Speaker 5: And then Van Pell keeps drilling the fundamentals and the base.
- 12:21Speaker 3: He's still here. That's a serious question.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I haven't heard he's gone. Yeah, they don't really announce
- 12:26Speaker 2: when coaches go like that, but I think don't they
- 12:30Speaker 2: all have contracts at all end on a certain day
- 12:33Speaker 2: or something like that.
- 12:35Speaker 3: I think it depends on when their contracts.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Is the first day of the new season or something.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 12:42Speaker 8: It's a weird situation all around. It's just some of
- 12:44Speaker 8: those guys that were there yesterday watching you just wonder
- 12:46Speaker 8: like were they in the building. Did they just like
- 12:49Speaker 8: realize I should probably be there and you know, put
- 12:51Speaker 8: some FaceTime in with the new coach. Like It's just
- 12:54Speaker 8: it doesn't really happen in other businesses. It's like you're
- 12:56Speaker 8: kind of in or you're out. You don't get left
- 12:58Speaker 8: in limbo often where you don't really know if you
- 13:00Speaker 8: have a job or not. You can still go to
- 13:01Speaker 8: the office, but in a week you might be gone
- 13:03Speaker 8: or you might be around, still work on the PESTI file.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I see what you did there.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, So, I mean I get that. I
- 13:12Speaker 2: kind of agree having someone a little bit more seasoned experience,
- 13:16Speaker 2: but sure, working with Drake and I think, you know, Chicago,
- 13:19Speaker 2: I'm starting to get a sense that they're looking the
- 13:21Speaker 2: same way. Now. They have interest in Mike McCary now
- 13:25Speaker 2: that he's available, and you know, they've got a young
- 13:28Speaker 2: quarterback as well that they have to make sure that
- 13:31Speaker 2: they handle the correct way. And you know that quarterback
- 13:34Speaker 2: is a little bit more I think immature than our quarterback.
- 13:38Speaker 2: But the point is it can't hurt to have that
- 13:41Speaker 2: maturity with a young quarterback. I mean, I'd love to
- 13:46Speaker 2: hear it's the case for Josh.
- 13:47Speaker 8: I mean, I'd love to hear from somebody like Alex
- 13:49Speaker 8: Van Pelt of just you know, in a bubble, like
- 13:51Speaker 8: what's the difference between taking a rookie quarterback and all
- 13:53Speaker 8: the things that you're going to try to do with
- 13:55Speaker 8: him in camp and getting them ready, and then you know,
- 13:57Speaker 8: in year two, what are the next steps in quarterback
- 13:59Speaker 8: development as far as you know his experience, what are
- 14:02Speaker 8: the big things? You know, I'm sure you continue to
- 14:04Speaker 8: drill footwork, you know. I don't know, It's just something
- 14:07Speaker 8: that's interesting to me. I loved hearing from Alex van
- 14:09Speaker 8: Pelt last year. I just I would not be opposed
- 14:12Speaker 8: to keeping him around. I don't know if it makes
- 14:13Speaker 8: sense with Josh if the offense kind of shifts, But
- 14:16Speaker 8: like Evan laid out, I just I thought, like what
- 14:18Speaker 8: we heard from Babel the last day, we're right, we're
- 14:20Speaker 8: talking football again. Like I kind of felt like that
- 14:22Speaker 8: with Alex van Pelt this year, Like you know, it
- 14:24Speaker 8: just felt like a football guy and he was, you know,
- 14:26Speaker 8: pretty much an open book. And he did a good
- 14:28Speaker 8: job last year. I think he did a pretty good job.
- 14:30Speaker 8: And I just I don't I don't see the need
- 14:32Speaker 8: to kick him to the curb too. He's, you know,
- 14:34Speaker 8: one of the only guys that I felt like last year,
- 14:36Speaker 8: you really, you know, enjoyed listening to and and and
- 14:39Speaker 8: you saw progress on the field with his players. So
- 14:42Speaker 8: I don't know, I just I wouldn't be so fast.
- 14:43Speaker 8: Just no, of course not.
- 14:44Speaker 2: I think what's more important having the perfect OC or
- 14:48Speaker 2: just getting more talent on offense?
- 14:53Speaker 7: I would say talent, Yeah, yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 5: I mean it's gonna be hard for any offensive coordinator
- 14:58Speaker 5: to have a productive offense with the offensive line play
- 15:00Speaker 5: that they had last year. Like if that's if you
- 15:03Speaker 5: can give that to Andy Reid, and I think that
- 15:06Speaker 5: he would have some some issues with that offensive line,
- 15:09Speaker 5: so you have to It starts there, like if you
- 15:13Speaker 5: got to be able to protect the quarterback and you
- 15:15Speaker 5: got to be able to run the ball a little bit.
- 15:17Speaker 5: If you can do that, then that opens up so
- 15:18Speaker 5: many opportunities for the coordinator in terms of play calling.
- 15:22Speaker 5: If you're always constantly behind the eight ball there, and
- 15:25Speaker 5: it's it's difficult to really scheme offense when your quarterback
- 15:29Speaker 5: has no time to sit back there, Like how were
- 15:31Speaker 5: you supposed to design routes to get guys open with
- 15:35Speaker 5: scheme that take three three and a half seconds when
- 15:37Speaker 5: you have two and a half. You know it, just
- 15:39Speaker 5: there's no way to do it.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Our listeners are really good at coming up with examples,
- 15:43Speaker 3: Like I'm just trying to think off the top of
- 15:45Speaker 3: my head of a team that had a lot of
- 15:48Speaker 3: really good talent on offense.
- 15:51Speaker 2: But the court just couldn't handle it, just.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Was unproductive, Like the coordinator stunk, like he was calling
- 15:58Speaker 3: you know, he had a reputation for not getting much.
- 16:01Speaker 3: I mean, I'm sure there are examples of maybe teams
- 16:03Speaker 3: that underachieved, but like to answer the question, I think
- 16:08Speaker 3: talent is probably.
- 16:09Speaker 8: I mean in Buffalo a couple years ago.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Were seeing in Buffalo, but even then, like, yeah, I mean,
- 16:15Speaker 3: I think that's a good example. And it's funny because
- 16:18Speaker 3: we were talking about that this morning. Like my feeling
- 16:21Speaker 3: is on the whole coordinator thing. And I'd be fine
- 16:23Speaker 3: with Josh because I love Josh. I would I'd look
- 16:28Speaker 3: at it as an opportunity to hit a home run
- 16:31Speaker 3: and hope that one of these young guys, you know,
- 16:34Speaker 3: I would go to McVeigh and I would look for
- 16:36Speaker 3: the next guy from McVeigh, like a quarterbacks coach David
- 16:39Speaker 3: Gohan or someone you know, former Louisville quarterback I think
- 16:42Speaker 3: is on his passing passing game coordinator or a quarterbacks coach.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Something like that's the next thing. And you got to
- 16:49Speaker 3: hope that you find it. There's a risk because you
- 16:52Speaker 3: do have a young quarterback. And I understand everything that
- 16:55Speaker 3: evand and Mike said about Josh with Drake May that
- 16:59Speaker 3: I couldn't possibly come up with one thing to argue
- 17:01Speaker 3: with that. They're exactly right. You have a young quarterback
- 17:05Speaker 3: and experienced, you know hand that knows how to do this.
- 17:09Speaker 3: I think Josh will be fine with with Drake May.
- 17:12Speaker 3: I just wonder if you might be able to get
- 17:15Speaker 3: more if you really hit that home run with the
- 17:18Speaker 3: next big thing, you know, the tight pants guy. Yeah,
- 17:21Speaker 3: you know, And I don't know, you know, if that's
- 17:23Speaker 3: Tommy Reese, I don't know, if it's I would go
- 17:25Speaker 3: to McVeigh. I think mcveigh's sort of, you know, the
- 17:27Speaker 3: Nick Cayley's of the world. These guys seem like they
- 17:30Speaker 3: have it. Like let's just say, for argument's sake, this
- 17:35Speaker 3: is something Mike and I talked about this morning. If
- 17:39Speaker 3: you had Tommy Reese and he comes in and you're like, well,
- 17:42Speaker 3: then you're gonna lose him in two years? What that
- 17:45Speaker 3: means as a thirty two year old guy, he knocked
- 17:47Speaker 3: it out of the park, right. If you lose him
- 17:49Speaker 3: in two years and now I'm not as worried about
- 17:50Speaker 3: replacing him because Drake May has established a level. Yeah,
- 17:54Speaker 3: you know, And I think this is how we got
- 17:56Speaker 3: on the Ken Dorsey thing ev because we were saying,
- 17:59Speaker 3: like Josh Allen is now o C proof like he
- 18:03Speaker 3: had a bad offensive coordinator in Ken Dorsey. It didn't
- 18:06Speaker 3: prevent Buffalo from scoring a lot of points and winning
- 18:08Speaker 3: a lot of games. They just weren't as productive as
- 18:11Speaker 3: they should have been, which showed when Joe Brady replaced
- 18:14Speaker 3: Dorsey and they went to a different level. And now
- 18:16Speaker 3: this year they've far exceeded even that. So if Tommy
- 18:21Speaker 3: Rees came and you got two really good years out
- 18:24Speaker 3: of him and he went became a head coach somewhere,
- 18:26Speaker 3: that's a good thing.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:28Speaker 3: That means it.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Worn't to go back to your you know question about
- 18:31Speaker 2: finding examples of you know, good offense with a coordinator
- 18:35Speaker 2: that was holding him back. I think Mossi is a
- 18:37Speaker 2: good one. All you need to really look at is
- 18:40Speaker 2: the times where current ocs were stripped of their play
- 18:43Speaker 2: calling duties by the head coach. And there's a lot
- 18:45Speaker 2: of those.
- 18:46Speaker 3: But the good offenses, well, that's what I'm saying like.
- 18:49Speaker 5: Buffalo, like the Jets on paper like should have been
- 18:52Speaker 5: a better offense. They weren't, right, so that's it. Or
- 18:57Speaker 5: you know, I always look at like the Chargers, you know,
- 19:00Speaker 5: with like Herber had good numbers, but they weren't winning
- 19:02Speaker 5: football games. So it was not a team that was
- 19:05Speaker 5: underperforming based off the talent, because I.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Would say that the Jets definitely have more. Now we
- 19:10Speaker 3: all know why they didn't score more. The quarterback was
- 19:13Speaker 3: kind of washed. But the Jets are a good example.
- 19:17Speaker 3: The Chargers, I think have a quarterback and a perception.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Evan and I talk about this all the time. People
- 19:25Speaker 3: think the Chargers have more talent than they do in
- 19:28Speaker 3: my in my view, in an Evans view, they're good,
- 19:31Speaker 3: but they're not, you know, one of these elite and
- 19:34Speaker 3: you know, I think Lad McConkey has given them promise
- 19:37Speaker 3: that maybe they're starting to get some of these weapons.
- 19:41Speaker 3: You know, Johnston's been you know, mid at best. You know,
- 19:47Speaker 3: I don't know if he's a complete bust. I mean,
- 19:49Speaker 3: he had like eight hundred yards and eight touchdowns. You know,
- 19:51Speaker 3: maybe that's not a bust per se, but certainly not
- 19:54Speaker 3: what they were hoping for the first round pick, but
- 19:57Speaker 3: not what they were looking for from a first round pick.
- 19:59Speaker 3: He drops a lot of passes. I just don't know
- 20:01Speaker 3: that they have a tremendous amount of skill around Herbert.
- 20:05Speaker 3: You know that said you know, I know you want
- 20:07Speaker 3: to talk about the weekends games too, as.
- 20:09Speaker 2: We want to get into that as you move along.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Herbert just flat out did not play well in that game.
- 20:14Speaker 3: After a great start, he went, he went in the tank.
- 20:17Speaker 8: What about the what about the Ravens, what they've kind
- 20:19Speaker 8: of done with you know, Monkin and Greg Roman and
- 20:22Speaker 8: how they've kind of adjusted their offense on the floor.
- 20:25Speaker 2: That's that's over the last decade. That's the biggest offensive
- 20:28Speaker 2: story in the league. How they took a risk on
- 20:32Speaker 2: a guy who a lot of people said isn't suited
- 20:34Speaker 2: for the NFL, transformed their offense completely, completely overhauled it
- 20:40Speaker 2: and it worked. And it took to me, it took
- 20:43Speaker 2: a lot of courage to do that. In today's NFL.
- 20:46Speaker 5: They they identified, you know with Roman. He obviously did
- 20:49Speaker 5: it with Kaepernick in San Francisco, and he did it
- 20:51Speaker 5: at the college level. So he was running that style
- 20:55Speaker 5: of offense where they're running quarterback a decade ago. So
- 20:58Speaker 5: they brought in a guy that specialized specifically in that
- 21:02Speaker 5: sort of thing. And then eventually with Monkin, like Lamar
- 21:06Speaker 5: outgrew it, like he became such a better passer than
- 21:09Speaker 5: maybe anybody had anticipated that, they said, Okay, we need
- 21:12Speaker 5: to put more on his plate in the dropback game
- 21:15Speaker 5: because right now he's not there's not enough that we
- 21:17Speaker 5: can call that will allow him to be you know,
- 21:21Speaker 5: to be an MVP. So they added all that stuff in,
- 21:24Speaker 5: but they started with the baseline of what Roman installed,
- 21:29Speaker 5: right with the design quarterback runs and all that kind
- 21:31Speaker 5: of stuff. But you know, it's cyclical, like that stuff is.
- 21:35Speaker 5: It's all wing tea like it's all you know, like
- 21:38Speaker 5: it was at what like Navy football was doing a
- 21:40Speaker 5: hundred years ago, and then it just it all cycles
- 21:43Speaker 5: back in when you have the right talent and the
- 21:44Speaker 5: right I mean.
- 21:45Speaker 2: It wasn't that long ago where NFL you know, experts
- 21:49Speaker 2: were like, you know, running quarterback, you know that's the
- 21:52Speaker 2: last thing you want. You want a guy in a pocket.
- 21:54Speaker 3: You know, you're absolutely right, and that the fact that
- 21:58Speaker 3: it worked has paved the weight. I mean, like Jayden Daniels,
- 22:02Speaker 3: you know, maybe wouldn't have gotten the opportunity to be
- 22:04Speaker 3: the second overall pick. Yeah, if it wasn't for the
- 22:07Speaker 3: success that Lamar Jackson.
- 22:09Speaker 5: Now you almost need it, like you need your quarterback
- 22:11Speaker 5: to have not necessarily be as good of a runner
- 22:13Speaker 5: as Lamar, but if you have a stationary quarterback, you're
- 22:16Speaker 5: at a huge disadvantage. Now, like everybody can move a
- 22:19Speaker 5: little bit.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Yeah, defenses are faster, they figure out how to draw pressure.
- 22:25Speaker 2: They take more risks than I think they used to.
- 22:28Speaker 2: So yeah, it's the game has changed for time. You
- 22:33Speaker 2: mentioned it cyclical. I mean twenty years from now, you know,
- 22:36Speaker 2: when I'm you know, long gone, They they could be
- 22:39Speaker 2: it could be back to uh, you know, pocket passing,
- 22:42Speaker 2: but who knows.
- 22:43Speaker 5: It's just really cool to me, like that part of
- 22:45Speaker 5: it because a lot of what they're doing with Lamar
- 22:48Speaker 5: is the veer, and like the vier was. You're running
- 22:51Speaker 5: the veer in the forties, right, like you know, you're
- 22:53Speaker 5: talking about you know, triple option like type of stuff,
- 22:57Speaker 5: and now they're doing that now and everybody's like, whoa,
- 23:00Speaker 5: this is so new and cool. It's like no, this
- 23:02Speaker 5: was just all like put in in the back burner.
- 23:06Speaker 2: But the Greeks were running literally like you know, they.
- 23:09Speaker 5: They've been running the veer since football was an organized sport,
- 23:13Speaker 5: you know, and they that's what you know, counter bashes
- 23:16Speaker 5: veer like, that's that's what they do in Baltimore.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Get Rabel back in here. We want to talk some ball.
- 23:21Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 23:22Speaker 8: I do think those are good examples though, of that
- 23:24Speaker 8: when you do change offensive coordinators, it doesn't have to
- 23:26Speaker 8: be a blow up restart, like especially when you have
- 23:29Speaker 8: a really good quarterback that you'll you know, install enough
- 23:31Speaker 8: of a baseline that you can build on it and
- 23:34Speaker 8: you know, take the Lamar Jackson offense to a different level,
- 23:37Speaker 8: or take the Josh Allen offense to a different level.
- 23:39Speaker 8: Brian Dable kind of establishes this thing, and you know,
- 23:42Speaker 8: as you get more experience, you're able to do more things.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Well, hopefully Vrabel's not just building this level of the coaching,
- 23:49Speaker 2: but he's building this level. So when this level goes
- 23:52Speaker 2: there's a natural ascension of people who have been in
- 23:55Speaker 2: the system know the team and that's what builded So, uh,
- 24:00Speaker 2: you successfully do.
- 24:01Speaker 8: You guys have a sense of that though in like
- 24:03Speaker 8: the early two thousands that we have a lot of
- 24:05Speaker 8: good young coaches.
- 24:06Speaker 2: You had no idea you didn't know that, but we did. Yeah,
- 24:09Speaker 2: like they just didn't. You don't realize, like.
- 24:12Speaker 8: Head coaches were making coffies with you guys.
- 24:15Speaker 2: The kids from you know, some mining like school.
- 24:18Speaker 8: Flow, what is that flow making coffies with you guys Like.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Well, No and McDaniels. Absolutely, they were just kids. And
- 24:26Speaker 3: I told you I did a huge story on them
- 24:29Speaker 3: and no like friends right like they were. They were there.
- 24:32Speaker 3: But you have no idea if they're good, you know,
- 24:34Speaker 3: how much talent they have, how much potential that they
- 24:37Speaker 3: offer until they get thrust into a world.
- 24:39Speaker 2: And what we didn't know how much of football university
- 24:42Speaker 2: they were being put through. Like the stuff that they
- 24:45Speaker 2: were doing we would look at as like really menial things,
- 24:49Speaker 2: but by doing that, they were learning, they were absorbing
- 24:53Speaker 2: they you know, they were coming up through the ranks.
- 24:55Speaker 2: And Bill liked that because that's how he did it,
- 24:58Speaker 2: you know, you know, sleeping on the floor and in
- 25:01Speaker 2: Baltimore for twenty five dollars a week and you know,
- 25:05Speaker 2: learning all that story go into that a little bit,
- 25:09Speaker 2: learning all the different positions and you know, special teams,
- 25:13Speaker 2: and that's how he liked his coaches learning. Now, you
- 25:16Speaker 2: don't have the time anymore. You know, it's just not
- 25:20Speaker 2: enough time to to bring up a coach the way
- 25:23Speaker 2: he was brought up.
- 25:23Speaker 8: It's gonna be hard to with more techology. And you know, well,
- 25:27Speaker 8: I want you to write it out by hand and
- 25:28Speaker 8: be like, but Bill like this program, right, you know,
- 25:31Speaker 8: But did you guys sense though that some of those guys,
- 25:33Speaker 8: even though you didn't know their potential, that they were
- 25:35Speaker 8: in hell and that they were always here and oh yeah,
- 25:38Speaker 8: you know, oh yeah, into the.
- 25:40Speaker 3: To you a point about writing that stuff out. That's
- 25:43Speaker 3: what it was stable specifically it was Josh and it
- 25:46Speaker 3: was a story on Josh and Brian. But I talked
- 25:48Speaker 3: more to Brian about that. That's what they were doing
- 25:50Speaker 3: patting place. Yeah, and like they had and that's the
- 25:54Speaker 3: way Bill wanted it.
- 25:55Speaker 5: Yeah. Also write out your calls, like your core calls,
- 25:59Speaker 5: because coaches think that you remember remember it better by
- 26:03Speaker 5: writing it.
- 26:04Speaker 2: I know I did when I was studying for a test.
- 26:06Speaker 2: If you wrote it, you know, if you wrote your
- 26:08Speaker 2: cheat sheet, you ended up kind of learning by creating
- 26:11Speaker 2: the cheat sheet.
- 26:12Speaker 3: It's absolutely right.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Flash cards.
- 26:13Speaker 3: I tell you how many times I did that. I
- 26:15Speaker 3: was like, if I had just and then I would
- 26:17Speaker 3: go oh, I was just study in the first place.
- 26:19Speaker 3: I stress out. But that's what I would do. I
- 26:21Speaker 3: would write these little sheets out and I'd be like, oh,
- 26:24Speaker 3: now I know it. I don't really need it. I
- 26:26Speaker 3: just wrote it out. Now I know it.
- 26:27Speaker 5: Yeah, there's a big deal made it last night because
- 26:30Speaker 5: Sean mcvay's play sheet was on the screen for a second.
- 26:33Speaker 5: Everybody screen grabs it and he writes out by hand
- 26:37Speaker 5: his his script, his opening script. He writes it by hand,
- 26:40Speaker 5: and all the coaches were like, oh, that's what that's
- 26:42Speaker 5: why he's the best. Like, that's what you gotta do.
- 26:44Speaker 5: You gotta write it out by hand.
- 26:46Speaker 2: And you know, but I was actually thinking of, uh,
- 26:49Speaker 2: you know, because you talk about patting plays, and I
- 26:53Speaker 2: was thinking that there's there's going to be an AI
- 26:58Speaker 2: tool that you know, by the number of the jersey
- 27:01Speaker 2: or whatever. You just sick this tool on every play
- 27:04Speaker 2: and it pads out every play for you, like in
- 27:08Speaker 2: in seconds.
- 27:09Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 27:09Speaker 2: You know. It's like.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so you mu on the road, you must
- 27:18Speaker 3: sit next to Evan, right, No, no, no, Evan does
- 27:22Speaker 3: this on like he goes right onto the next gen.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Like when it was doing it during the game. This
- 27:28Speaker 2: is what I'm saying. Think, yeah, next to the game,
- 27:30Speaker 2: I see him with his little thing.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Like so like and it's not every play, but what
- 27:34Speaker 3: are you doing over there?
- 27:36Speaker 5: He's got the screen a little leave, a little thing.
- 27:40Speaker 2: He's got this green football fel I see all these
- 27:42Speaker 2: dots moving around.
- 27:44Speaker 3: When when there's a big play or something happens, I know,
- 27:47Speaker 3: he goes back and he's like, you know, man like this,
- 27:50Speaker 3: like like the fourth down sack against the Chargers, Oh Drake,
- 27:53Speaker 3: you know, sort of escaped the pocket. He had Stevenson
- 27:56Speaker 3: right up here, you know, like he goes back and
- 27:58Speaker 3: he looks right away he does next gen us just watch.
- 28:01Speaker 8: That's great and steal Stevens usually usually did he did
- 28:07Speaker 8: third downs usually.
- 28:08Speaker 5: I look at every third down. I'm what's going on
- 28:12Speaker 5: here because that's really where the scheme stuff is happening, right,
- 28:14Speaker 5: It's not not so much on the early downs. So
- 28:17Speaker 5: it's a it's a great tool. What opportunity for the Patriots.
- 28:20Speaker 5: I'm just looking at the upcoming opponents. The Patriots have
- 28:23Speaker 5: an opportunity to have a really good home year next year.
- 28:25Speaker 5: They do not have a lot of tough home games,
- 28:27Speaker 5: Playoff Giants.
- 28:28Speaker 3: Raiders, you know, Brown Panthers, the teams that they should
- 28:34Speaker 3: be able to beat at home. They're not telling you
- 28:36Speaker 3: they're gonna win them all. That's what's going to happen here,
- 28:39Speaker 3: is they're gonna you know that they're five and oh
- 28:42Speaker 3: in those games. No, they'll go three and two in
- 28:44Speaker 3: those games, in my opinion of two and three in
- 28:46Speaker 3: those games. But like they've won like three home games
- 28:49Speaker 3: in the last two years combine, there's an opportunity to
- 28:52Speaker 3: win three or four home games.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Well, they have. They have a last place record. I know,
- 28:55Speaker 2: that's how you got to last place.
- 28:56Speaker 3: That's how you got They've had a last place record,
- 28:59Speaker 3: They've they've had the last play schedule now a couple
- 29:02Speaker 3: of years.
- 29:02Speaker 5: But you're going to have bad teams on Patriots to
- 29:05Speaker 5: go undefeated at I think.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Rabel knows that. And he's talking about taking advantage of
- 29:10Speaker 2: bad football. Yeah, they want to get at least.
- 29:13Speaker 8: That good I mean, I love that. That's just the
- 29:15Speaker 8: perfect to me, like a perfect first step of like
- 29:17Speaker 8: and he said, he's like, I don't even know if
- 29:19Speaker 8: we're good enough yet to take advantage of that.
- 29:21Speaker 3: We need to get to the level where we're good
- 29:23Speaker 3: enough to take advantage of bad this team last year
- 29:26Speaker 3: that they weren't good enough to take advantage because there
- 29:30Speaker 3: were plenty of teams were played and it didn't matter.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, eight five to five pass five hundred
- 29:38Speaker 2: is the ace ticket hotline podcasts at Patriots dot com
- 29:41Speaker 2: as the email address. Anything else we need to talk about,
- 29:45Speaker 2: we we are going to talk about the Yeah, mild
- 29:48Speaker 2: card weekend.
- 29:49Speaker 5: Uh little.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Yeah, kind of disappointing.
- 29:55Speaker 3: As expected though, I mean, I just think this. I
- 29:58Speaker 3: know a lot of people were tweeting the college stuff
- 30:01Speaker 3: over the weekend. It's kind of true. There's a big
- 30:04Speaker 3: gap even among the good teams. There's a difference between
- 30:09Speaker 3: Kansas City, Baltimore, and Buffalo and the rest of the
- 30:12Speaker 3: AFC playoff teams. Same in the NFC with Detroit and Philly. Yep,
- 30:16Speaker 3: I would say.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Maybe it's not just Detroit right now. I don't trust
- 30:21Speaker 2: Phillies offense.
- 30:22Speaker 3: But Philly's good. Philly has had. They won fourteen games,
- 30:27Speaker 3: and they have a lot of talent on both sides
- 30:29Speaker 3: of the ball. Their defense was flying around in that game.
- 30:32Speaker 3: I know that their task was made a lot easier,
- 30:34Speaker 3: but just the amount of injuries that the Packers had
- 30:37Speaker 3: especially receiver. Yeah, Kobe Dean, Yeah, Kobe Dean's hope for
- 30:42Speaker 3: the year. He's one of those guys he was playing
- 30:45Speaker 3: well oh really.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Yeah, they said he could miss the beginning of next season.
- 30:50Speaker 5: Well it's a cold, strange injury, he went host. It
- 30:53Speaker 5: could be all, it could be all in next year.
- 30:56Speaker 2: All Right's well, speaking of coal, we have a coal
- 30:59Speaker 2: from Minnesota on the TPX outline. What's up Coal?
- 31:03Speaker 9: Hey, how's it going guys? Okay, So, yeah, I'm pretty
- 31:08Speaker 9: excited about the news with Brabel Hockeel. Slightly bad for
- 31:16Speaker 9: Grod just because he didn't get the whole experience, But
- 31:20Speaker 9: I I am not exactly surprised, just because it seems
- 31:24Speaker 9: like that's how Robert have to operate, you know, he
- 31:26Speaker 9: pulls the trigger when he feels like he needs to.
- 31:30Speaker 9: Is there any talk or anything about like some of
- 31:34Speaker 9: the other staff members on the team, like as far
- 31:38Speaker 9: as like wide receiver coach or some of these other
- 31:40Speaker 9: guys to help improve some of these other position groups
- 31:45Speaker 9: that we have, Like what's up with Wes Welker. Is
- 31:49Speaker 9: he's still with Miami?
- 31:50Speaker 2: Is there released? Yeah, he's out there.
- 31:55Speaker 9: That is that an option for us? Is that something
- 31:57Speaker 9: we can entertain.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Sure, I mean, everything's on the table.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Is he any good?
- 32:01Speaker 2: Yeah? Why was he released?
- 32:03Speaker 5: You know, it's a weird one. He uh, because he
- 32:06Speaker 5: was getting promoted in my he got promoted to past
- 32:09Speaker 5: game specialists and like seemed like he was on a
- 32:12Speaker 5: pretty good track there in Miami and then all this
- 32:15Speaker 5: this drama with Tyreek.
- 32:16Speaker 7: Kill his past.
- 32:18Speaker 5: I wonder if Kill was like, he's yeah, maybe I'm
- 32:23Speaker 5: just just guessing.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Yeah, no, coach Killer, I like that.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, Well, Welker's out there, and like you said, Cole,
- 32:31Speaker 2: there's opportunity to upgrade in every facet of the organization
- 32:36Speaker 2: right now. So my seat's hot, I can tell you
- 32:39Speaker 2: that much.
- 32:40Speaker 3: But thanks for the your seats hot. Then ahead, excuse me.
- 32:46Speaker 9: Well, I know we had Troy Brown forever and I
- 32:48Speaker 9: just know that we've been talking about, you know, obviously
- 32:50Speaker 9: there's a lot to talk about. You know, how do
- 32:51Speaker 9: we improve in the draft, how do we you know,
- 32:54Speaker 9: how do we evaluate this talent that's coming in. Obviously
- 32:57Speaker 9: these last four years, five years, we've been missing left
- 33:01Speaker 9: and right, and I mean that's the nature of the NFL.
- 33:03Speaker 9: But there's got to be something we can do to
- 33:05Speaker 9: get some kind of people in here, you know, even
- 33:07Speaker 9: a guy like Wes Falker who knows how to do it,
- 33:09Speaker 9: knows how to operate at a high level. I don't
- 33:13Speaker 9: know that. There's some talk like with Troy Brown, how
- 33:15Speaker 9: maybe he was just one of those guys who was
- 33:17Speaker 9: just mover talented, so when it comes to teaching or training,
- 33:21Speaker 9: it might be a little harder.
- 33:22Speaker 2: For him, right.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Guys with the high wouldn't fall into that GEMI Toroy
- 33:28Speaker 3: Brown was an overachieving player, but he had not a
- 33:30Speaker 3: not an uber talented player. And by the way, Tory
- 33:33Speaker 3: Brown was not on the coaching staff last year, so
- 33:35Speaker 3: he was but not in that role now.
- 33:37Speaker 2: He wasn't a position coach.
- 33:39Speaker 3: Tyler Hughes was the wide receivers coach.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Thanks for the call.
- 33:43Speaker 3: I just like, I don't have any idea if Wes well,
- 33:46Speaker 3: you know, like I don't know either, I have no idea.
- 33:49Speaker 5: He had a good reputation, that's all I can tell you.
- 33:51Speaker 5: I mean in San Francisco and then McDaniel specifically took
- 33:55Speaker 5: him with him from San Francisco to Miami. So I
- 33:58Speaker 5: don't know what happened in the end. I'm not down there,
- 34:01Speaker 5: but yeah, he was on a track, and he's on
- 34:04Speaker 5: all these lists of up and coming coaches, and you know,
- 34:07Speaker 5: Tom Pellisserro releases that list every year and his name
- 34:10Speaker 5: was on it, Like so.
- 34:11Speaker 3: I hate those lists.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Well, how do they know? They Oh, that's the game,
- 34:20Speaker 2: That's how they know.
- 34:21Speaker 8: I do wonder though, if there's some come down the
- 34:23Speaker 8: pike in the next couple of weeks of a little
- 34:25Speaker 8: bit of a Rabel shake up and some kind of
- 34:27Speaker 8: move probably not player yet, but some kind of coaching
- 34:29Speaker 8: shake up where there's some departures and it starts to
- 34:33Speaker 8: take shape that he took inventory of what was going
- 34:36Speaker 8: on here and made some tough decisions and is moving on.
- 34:38Speaker 3: If he's waiting with these teams that are still involved,
- 34:41Speaker 3: I think that's why I don't think it's gonna happen overnight.
- 34:44Speaker 3: I think there's gonna be people that they're gonna target,
- 34:46Speaker 3: probably people you know, and Nevn't had some of these
- 34:48Speaker 3: names in his piece on the OC today about you know,
- 34:52Speaker 3: people that he was with in Houston, and you know
- 34:54Speaker 3: that he connected at certain times, starting in Houston, ended
- 34:58Speaker 3: up in Tennessee. They're scattered around the league now, they're
- 35:01Speaker 3: not all not all of them are household names, but
- 35:04Speaker 3: I would imagine that some of those guys are going
- 35:06Speaker 3: to be coming here.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Yeah, like you said, you have to wait until all
- 35:09Speaker 2: the teams are done. The real rush now is personnel.
- 35:13Speaker 2: That's where you're you're you know, you need to get
- 35:15Speaker 2: ready because you've got the All Star Games coming up,
- 35:17Speaker 2: the combines coming up, so you need to get ready
- 35:20Speaker 2: for that. Players aren't going to be back in the
- 35:22Speaker 2: building until you know, April March, so your position, coaches,
- 35:27Speaker 2: you have a little bit of time to get that
- 35:29Speaker 2: staff ready.
- 35:30Speaker 8: One or two on the defensive side of the ball,
- 35:32Speaker 8: where last year there was so much continuity that you know,
- 35:35Speaker 8: maybe some members of the defense didn't quite feel the
- 35:37Speaker 8: change and feel the need to, you know, re earn
- 35:40Speaker 8: their jobs per se. You know, like some guys were like, well,
- 35:43Speaker 8: you know, I know, I'm here, I'm established kind of
- 35:44Speaker 8: the same coaching staff we got. Covington's gonna be the
- 35:47Speaker 8: coordinator now, you know. But now where you're looking at
- 35:49Speaker 8: probably a good chunk of at least variable being at
- 35:51Speaker 8: the top of it. You know, these guys are gonna
- 35:53Speaker 8: have to earn their jobs again. And I just, I mean, I.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Think we're all one more entitlement now, you know.
- 35:57Speaker 8: And looking and going back and looking at the film
- 35:59Speaker 8: from last year and saying, this guy, this guy wasn't
- 36:02Speaker 8: playing like this. You know, I don't like how this guy,
- 36:04Speaker 8: you know, like there's gonna be some things that he said.
- 36:06Speaker 8: I mean, I think you said yesterday, Paul, what.
- 36:07Speaker 3: Are you doing with Mike? You grinding him away, grinding
- 36:10Speaker 3: the tape over there.
- 36:11Speaker 5: I couldn't agree more with them, Like that's what I
- 36:13Speaker 5: hope that he's here to do. Yeah, you know, we
- 36:15Speaker 5: watched the film and like, this guy, we don't want
- 36:19Speaker 5: those types of people.
- 36:19Speaker 7: And I'm not putting the.
- 36:20Speaker 5: Finger at anybody in particular, but like, we don't want
- 36:23Speaker 5: those types of people on this team. Like all this
- 36:25Speaker 5: stuff he talked about yesterday about what he expects out
- 36:28Speaker 5: of players, You have to then go find players that
- 36:31Speaker 5: can embody that and that can provide that kind of leadership.
- 36:34Speaker 5: And if these guys aren't doing it, then.
- 36:37Speaker 2: I read a headline. I didn't read the story, but
- 36:39Speaker 2: I read a headline that said no one should be
- 36:40Speaker 2: happier among the Patriots and Keon White that Mike Rabel
- 36:44Speaker 2: is now the head coach.
- 36:45Speaker 3: Do you agree, well, Kevin said that yesterday. Yeah, I
- 36:48Speaker 3: mean he stole it was.
- 36:50Speaker 5: This was his message to us a couple of weeks
- 36:52Speaker 5: ago when he kind of spoke out about the coaching,
- 36:55Speaker 5: was that he doesn't feel like he was getting hard coaching.
- 36:57Speaker 5: He didn't feel like he was getting corrected, and he
- 36:59Speaker 5: felt like he was developing bad habits and it wasn't
- 37:02Speaker 5: being you know, nipped in the butt and fixed. And
- 37:06Speaker 5: he's a second year player, you know, last year it
- 37:09Speaker 5: was second year in the league, so I can't expect
- 37:11Speaker 5: him to like, you know, be able to have all
- 37:13Speaker 5: the answers. And I thought that his whatever you want
- 37:18Speaker 5: to call it, his outspokenness was more a cry for
- 37:21Speaker 5: help than it was like an outburst, you know, where
- 37:24Speaker 5: he was like, I feel myself getting worse and I
- 37:27Speaker 5: don't feel like I'm getting the coaching that I need.
- 37:29Speaker 5: So that's why people are making the jump and saying
- 37:32Speaker 5: that he's really gonna like Frable and like this news.
- 37:35Speaker 3: We were joking around, you know, when that graphic of
- 37:37Speaker 3: the next the upcoming opponents came up, and you know,
- 37:40Speaker 3: like Evan was teasing me like, oh, you know, pulse
- 37:42Speaker 3: saying playoffs or whatever. I actually think it could get
- 37:45Speaker 3: worse because I think I think he's gonna clear the deck, right.
- 37:51Speaker 3: I think he's gonna look at a lot of the
- 37:53Speaker 3: things that Mike and Evan are saying about. You know,
- 37:56Speaker 3: I see this guy not necessarily doing it, and that
- 37:59Speaker 3: I think he's gonna figure out what he has to
- 38:01Speaker 3: keep and everything else is gonna go. Yeah, and he's
- 38:05Speaker 3: gonna sort of And I'm not trying to tell people, Oh,
- 38:07Speaker 3: be prepared for year one. It's not year one of
- 38:10Speaker 3: the rebuild. I know everybody keeps saying last year it
- 38:12Speaker 3: was year one of a rebuild. It wasn't. But I
- 38:14Speaker 3: think that he has more of a sort of an
- 38:19Speaker 3: idea and understanding of what they need to do to
- 38:21Speaker 3: get where he wants to go. And if people are
- 38:24Speaker 3: going to be on board with them, then they're going
- 38:26Speaker 3: to stay. And that's players, that's coaches, that's personnel department.
- 38:31Speaker 3: I think it's all three of them. Won't be any shortcuts,
- 38:33Speaker 3: but I don't think they're going to be shortcuts. And
- 38:35Speaker 3: I and I would be surprised if just all of
- 38:38Speaker 3: these guys that were say signed last year, if they're
- 38:42Speaker 3: all back, I'd be very surprised. There are gonna be
- 38:44Speaker 3: people that right now, you're not expecting that won't be back.
- 38:49Speaker 3: And I don't know who all those guys are.
- 38:51Speaker 2: There will be no surprise cuts. Is that what you're saying?
- 38:55Speaker 3: Kind of? But yeah, you know what I mean, I
- 38:58Speaker 3: might not be explaining it right, but I think he's
- 39:00Speaker 3: gonna look to get you know, we joke around about
- 39:03Speaker 3: my guys the culture as guys. I think Rabel's gonna
- 39:07Speaker 3: look long and hard and who's with us and who's not?
- 39:10Speaker 5: The culture wasn't good?
- 39:11Speaker 3: Like what kind of circles that entitlement line that he
- 39:14Speaker 3: kept using yesterday, just keeps ringing it.
- 39:17Speaker 8: And who's entitled? The guys that got paid last year
- 39:19Speaker 8: and the guys who and let's face it, it's a
- 39:21Speaker 8: pretty significant list guys who got paid and.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Regrets fortunately watunate because you pay them so that they
- 39:27Speaker 2: would be on board and happy and you know, carrying
- 39:31Speaker 2: the water right and a lot.
- 39:32Speaker 8: I mean, you know, I just I mean I look
- 39:34Speaker 8: immediately to Kyle Duggah and Michael Whenu and you know,
- 39:36Speaker 8: just as I was taking inventory the year and looking
- 39:39Speaker 8: forward to next year, I'm like, those guys got to
- 39:41Speaker 8: bring it next year like they had down years. I
- 39:43Speaker 8: need Michael Wnu to come back in shape ready to
- 39:45Speaker 8: go with right guard and maybe they're going to quit
- 39:47Speaker 8: moving him all over the place and let him focus
- 39:49Speaker 8: on it. But you know, those guys that you played
- 39:51Speaker 8: last year, last year not as bad as the year was.
- 39:55Speaker 8: I feel like it was also an opportunity for some
- 39:56Speaker 8: of those guys to step up and into those roles
- 39:59Speaker 8: when Juwan Bentley goes down, and you know, I think
- 40:01Speaker 8: the team felt rudderless. It felt guys sniping at each other.
- 40:05Speaker 8: I mean, it felt like the defensive line room was
- 40:07Speaker 8: all over the defense all year. I mean they were,
- 40:09Speaker 8: you know, taking shots at each other. I don't know
- 40:11Speaker 8: exactly what the factions were, but you know, it was
- 40:13Speaker 8: all over the place and no real leader. I mean,
- 40:15Speaker 8: I think this was part of the Callahan and Kaide
- 40:17Speaker 8: piece two where that nobody really stepped up into those
- 40:20Speaker 8: leadership roles to hold people accountable.
- 40:22Speaker 3: And that beca was one of the things that I
- 40:25Speaker 3: think think we kind of glossed over is we made
- 40:28Speaker 3: mention of when all the captains got hurt, but not
- 40:32Speaker 3: necessarily saying how damaging that can be when you those
- 40:36Speaker 3: are the guys you're counting on to be leaders. And
- 40:38Speaker 3: now they're not in uniform. That's hard to lose Andrews,
- 40:41Speaker 3: to lose Bentley, you know, those kinds of guys. You know,
- 40:45Speaker 3: Pepper's situation early in the year, that's not nothing. You know,
- 40:51Speaker 3: when you have guys that you're really counting on to
- 40:53Speaker 3: do that and then they're all.
- 40:54Speaker 8: Especially when the guys behind them are not that vocal
- 40:58Speaker 8: or you know, just I mean, you guys know, certain
- 41:01Speaker 8: guys have that leadership vibe and you know, Jawan Bentley
- 41:03Speaker 8: walks to the room and everyone's like that guy. You know,
- 41:05Speaker 8: other guys not not so much. They got to find
- 41:07Speaker 8: those guys, and it goes to what Verbel said yesterday.
- 41:10Speaker 8: Build the conditions for those guys to emerge.
- 41:12Speaker 5: I just think you need new guys, Like I think
- 41:15Speaker 5: a lot of the guys going to agree with you
- 41:17Speaker 5: on this team other than like the real bill CA
- 41:21Speaker 5: you know, hold Over as Jonathan Jones, Dietrich Wise, David Andrews,
- 41:24Speaker 5: all of these guys have one anything in the league,
- 41:27Speaker 5: like really like haven't won, been successful anywhere. And I'm
- 41:30Speaker 5: not saying they're bad football players or you know, anything
- 41:33Speaker 5: like that necessarily across the board, but like you got
- 41:36Speaker 5: to find some guys that have been there and done that.
- 41:38Speaker 5: And you look in Washington and you like hear the
- 41:41Speaker 5: impact that Bobby Wagner has had on that team, just
- 41:44Speaker 5: as like somebody that has won a super Bowl, that
- 41:48Speaker 5: has been in playoffs, that's been into battle and like
- 41:50Speaker 5: understands what it takes to win in the league. And
- 41:53Speaker 5: like they don't. They don't have guys like that. And
- 41:55Speaker 5: except for the Bill veterans, which were Bill guys, Like,
- 41:59Speaker 5: it's not those aren't Greatbot.
- 42:00Speaker 3: We're all turning our eyes to the commanders because I mean,
- 42:04Speaker 3: I know we keep talking about it, but it's it's
- 42:07Speaker 3: the perfect example. It's the same they were in the
- 42:10Speaker 3: same spot. And it's not that impossible. It's not easy,
- 42:16Speaker 3: but it can happen.
- 42:17Speaker 2: You got to make good decisions. Kendall's in San Diego.
- 42:20Speaker 2: Hey Kendall, Hey they went good.
- 42:28Speaker 6: Hey, So, Elliott Woll, how we're going to develop with
- 42:36Speaker 6: Mike Grevelin, how would he bring in coaches that have
- 42:41Speaker 6: the qualifications to develop our young players or the ones
- 42:45Speaker 6: that we're going to actually bring in later on to
- 42:48Speaker 6: fit his idea? Like, what are the different qualifications you
- 42:50Speaker 6: guys think he would be looking at? I love what
- 42:54Speaker 6: you guys do. I'll think the answer there.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Thank you, Okay, thanks Kendall.
- 42:59Speaker 3: I don't know, can we go to the Belichick cliches
- 43:01Speaker 3: like smart versus players?
- 43:03Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, people who love football.
- 43:05Speaker 3: You know, veterans. I wouldn't be surprised to see like
- 43:08Speaker 3: a you know, not this dramatic, but a two thousand
- 43:11Speaker 3: and one approach where it's not going to be three
- 43:15Speaker 3: or four highest end of the market free agents, but
- 43:19Speaker 3: it might be fifteen guys coming in reuild the core,
- 43:23Speaker 3: like we need players, we need Bobby Wagner's.
- 43:26Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I think that there's gonna be major
- 43:29Speaker 5: roster turnover with this team going into next year because
- 43:33Speaker 5: what attachment does he have to or does Ryan Cowden
- 43:36Speaker 5: have to any of these players? Right, I mean none.
- 43:38Speaker 8: It's kind of why Drake green LUs stood out to
- 43:40Speaker 8: me a little bit as a guy.
- 43:42Speaker 3: Greenlaw good example of Bobby Wagner. Yeah, I who's had
- 43:46Speaker 3: success in the league. Now, I don't know, you know,
- 43:49Speaker 3: like a lot of people sort of thought Bobby Wagner
- 43:51Speaker 3: was on the back nine too. He's had a pretty
- 43:53Speaker 3: good year.
- 43:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Uh.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Podcast at Patriots dot com is the email address you've
- 43:59Speaker 2: got a lot of emails coming in. I'm just looking
- 44:02Speaker 2: at all of them seeing, uh, what sticks out to me?
- 44:05Speaker 2: This one does? It says Evan, you fraud.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Evan, Shame, shame, Power, Power.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Is your favorite play. I've been listening to you ask
- 44:15Speaker 2: for a mesh for the last two years, but I
- 44:16Speaker 2: get it. Vrabel is intimidating. So a mesh isn't a
- 44:19Speaker 2: play is an.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Aspect, it's a It's a pass play and verb. What's
- 44:26Speaker 3: your favorite run play?
- 44:27Speaker 5: If you're gonna come at me with all this no ball,
- 44:30Speaker 5: all right, don't come at me this kind.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Of no ball.
- 44:33Speaker 7: No, No, I've taken oh power? Really, Like what do
- 44:36Speaker 7: you want me to say?
- 44:37Speaker 3: Some people were even making fun of saying he comes
- 44:39Speaker 3: up with power? That's not even a play.
- 44:41Speaker 5: It isn't Like even idiots like me know that, Like
- 44:44Speaker 5: what do you what do you want me to say?
- 44:46Speaker 5: You wanted me to say something crazy and have them okay, buddy,
- 44:49Speaker 5: like whatever? Like No, I said power because it's a
- 44:52Speaker 5: classic NFL plays.
- 44:58Speaker 3: You have.
- 44:59Speaker 8: I mean, Holliston High freshman football playbook. We had power
- 45:02Speaker 8: in there, like you guys must.
- 45:04Speaker 3: Everybody for us, it was belly dive blast like yes, oh.
- 45:07Speaker 5: What what's your favorite play?
- 45:08Speaker 7: Split flow zone?
- 45:09Speaker 8: Okay, all right, Like you know I was going to
- 45:12Speaker 8: say push right.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Thing fifty y g.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Did you see the thing on Peyton over the weekend
- 45:19Speaker 2: about his play calling, Like it's like.
- 45:23Speaker 3: Oh, I heard them saying that, like how long and
- 45:28Speaker 3: bo Nicks doesn't use a wristband.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Yeah, if you don't get it that first time, you're
- 45:32Speaker 2: you're lost. Yeah.
- 45:33Speaker 8: I actually saw a thing with Gruden at barstool where
- 45:36Speaker 8: he like installed the play with like the barstool guys.
- 45:39Speaker 8: So he's got like all the barstool crew sitting there
- 45:41Speaker 8: and Gruden's just doing his install of a play and
- 45:45Speaker 8: but like rudimentary level.
- 45:46Speaker 10: It was.
- 45:46Speaker 8: It was really fun.
- 45:47Speaker 2: I mean, you know, where's my titan?
- 45:48Speaker 3: All right, you're gonna be especially Evan.
- 45:51Speaker 2: That was fun.
- 45:51Speaker 3: Bill used to do it. Bill used to do a
- 45:53Speaker 3: little I like that chalk talk one on one for us.
- 45:56Speaker 8: I like that stuff.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Maybe we'll do something with Rabel on a regular basis,
- 45:59Speaker 2: like just really talking ball in the general's aspect, not
- 46:03Speaker 2: giving away the Patriots play on a serious note.
- 46:08Speaker 11: Uh.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Listening to Rabel speak with you guys was impactful for
- 46:10Speaker 2: my opinion on the higher he does sound more knowledgeable
- 46:13Speaker 2: than I would have thought, Like, why wouldn't you have
- 46:16Speaker 2: thought he was knowledgeable because he's like big.
- 46:19Speaker 5: And I think there are a lot of people that
- 46:22Speaker 5: when you hear about him, they think he's like Dan Campbell,
- 46:26Speaker 5: that's just gonna go and just be a raw ra
- 46:29Speaker 5: guy and just scream about knee caps and things like that,
- 46:33Speaker 5: and he's not.
- 46:34Speaker 2: So I'm this guy.
- 46:36Speaker 3: I was just like other than the fact that he
- 46:39Speaker 3: was a player, I'm not really interested in the fact
- 46:42Speaker 3: that all the success he had as a player in
- 46:44Speaker 3: terms of making him a good coach. I think that
- 46:47Speaker 3: being a former player, I do think gives you cred
- 46:50Speaker 3: in the locker room. I think the players kind of
- 46:52Speaker 3: like playing for former players. But if you just look
- 46:55Speaker 3: at his resume, I'm not talking about the three Super
- 46:58Speaker 3: Bowls or any of that nonsense that he.
- 47:00Speaker 2: Was part of.
- 47:01Speaker 3: This is a guy who played outside linebacker. You took
- 47:04Speaker 3: the w had to move to inside linebacker because there
- 47:07Speaker 3: was a two year stretch where they couldn't stop the
- 47:09Speaker 3: run to save their lives. And it's a completely different position,
- 47:14Speaker 3: and he played it, played it well. Then he goes
- 47:17Speaker 3: and plays on the offensive side of the ball. To
- 47:20Speaker 3: the point where he had ten receptions in his career.
- 47:23Speaker 3: They all resulted in touchdowns. Like this isn't just a
- 47:27Speaker 3: guy who wants to bite kneecaps. This is a smart,
- 47:30Speaker 3: versatile player who understood And Bill used to say, I
- 47:35Speaker 3: think there was a I think Bill actually had a
- 47:36Speaker 3: statement's a clip.
- 47:37Speaker 2: Everybody knew he was going to be a coach.
- 47:39Speaker 3: He said, he's the most prepared to be a coach.
- 47:42Speaker 3: I'm paraphrasing, the most coach like player he ever had.
- 47:47Speaker 3: And this is coming from Bill, So I you know,
- 47:51Speaker 3: I'm surprised that people would be surprised that he comes
- 47:55Speaker 3: across as is knowing as much as he does exes
- 47:58Speaker 3: knows why that's the player he does.
- 48:00Speaker 8: He stand out, I mean above everyone. I mean we
- 48:02Speaker 8: heard plenty of guys who were ex's and coaches on
- 48:05Speaker 8: the field, coaches, and there were a lot of those
- 48:07Speaker 8: guys that came through here, but to me, he was
- 48:09Speaker 8: always the pinnacle of it, who showed it.
- 48:12Speaker 3: You know, you would just say, like this, it's one
- 48:14Speaker 3: thing that to sort of absorb a game plan and
- 48:16Speaker 3: understand what you're doing each week, but he understood the
- 48:19Speaker 3: concepts of football, like what the other team was doing
- 48:24Speaker 3: what the what they would try to accomplish and how
- 48:26Speaker 3: to you know, what the idea was, why why the
- 48:30Speaker 3: game plan was what it was for the Patriots because
- 48:33Speaker 3: they're doing this and this is why we have to
- 48:34Speaker 3: do that and adjusting on the fly.
- 48:36Speaker 2: He got it from a macro in a micro level.
- 48:39Speaker 5: Yeah, the why no, like being able to dissect the
- 48:42Speaker 5: why of this is their scheme the opponent and this
- 48:45Speaker 5: is why they do. Like that's the next level stuff, right,
- 48:48Speaker 5: you know, they're going to play this coverage and hear
- 48:50Speaker 5: their rules and how can we attack that and you
- 48:52Speaker 5: know get you know, find the vulnerabilities and those types
- 48:56Speaker 5: of things. But I admit, I, you know, I the
- 49:00Speaker 5: fact that he can like break down offense the way
- 49:03Speaker 5: that he not with me, but like just in general,
- 49:06Speaker 5: you know, like the fact that he knows offense to
- 49:09Speaker 5: that degree. It took me like a little bit by surprise.
- 49:13Speaker 2: How Brady and Belichick were the perfect pairing. So was Rabel.
- 49:17Speaker 2: I mean Rabel you know, flourished when he came here,
- 49:21Speaker 2: uh you know from Pittsburgh, and I think Belichick's so
- 49:25Speaker 2: on him, someone who was extremely coachable, extremely versatile, had
- 49:31Speaker 2: you know, talent as well.
- 49:32Speaker 3: And I think those are the kinds of players that
- 49:36Speaker 3: they need to get. Like, listen, they need T Higgins
- 49:40Speaker 3: that you know, and I don't mean specifically T Higgins.
- 49:42Speaker 3: They need a number one, you know, wide receiver.
- 49:46Speaker 8: I'm not can you just say a J. Brown?
- 49:47Speaker 7: Just say Brown, okay, But they.
- 49:48Speaker 3: Need a J. Brown, They need a you know, they
- 49:51Speaker 3: need some talent. They need some high end talent. And
- 49:55Speaker 3: I think that they'll try to get two or three
- 49:57Speaker 3: of those guys, but they need maybe eight or ten.
- 50:00Speaker 3: Mike Rabels from two thousand and one, yeah, you know,
- 50:04Speaker 3: and we all know all those names that that you
- 50:06Speaker 3: know that really worked out. There were a lot of
- 50:08Speaker 3: players that they had. Some of them were veterans that
- 50:10Speaker 3: had smaller roles.
- 50:11Speaker 2: Listen, Wes Welker was one of them, but there.
- 50:13Speaker 3: Was a lot of them, you know. I mean, Welker
- 50:17Speaker 3: was a guy they targeted. They thought he had a
- 50:21Speaker 3: specific role that.
- 50:22Speaker 2: That right, But he was a smart guy. It was
- 50:25Speaker 2: a smart player who could play with Tom Brady and
- 50:28Speaker 2: take advantage of Brady's intellect. You know.
- 50:32Speaker 3: That's what I think they're going to do in the offseason.
- 50:34Speaker 3: Something you know, maybe let's let's call it two thousand
- 50:36Speaker 3: and one light. I mean, I think they had like
- 50:38Speaker 3: twenty twenty two or twenty three free agents that year.
- 50:41Speaker 3: I don't expect that, but they brought a lot of
- 50:44Speaker 3: players in that were they were NFL veteran players, Like
- 50:48Speaker 3: not just all young guys.
- 50:50Speaker 2: I want tough and smart guys. Tough and smart.
- 50:54Speaker 8: I wonder I rick, I think table handles Romandre.
- 51:01Speaker 2: I think like that to me, you stop fumbling or
- 51:03Speaker 2: you're never gonna play again.
- 51:04Speaker 7: See I think I agree.
- 51:06Speaker 5: But I also like he's going to have a trick,
- 51:08Speaker 5: Like he's going to have some sort of like you know,
- 51:13Speaker 5: like remember Kevin fulk wore like the elbow pads and
- 51:16Speaker 5: that like allowed him to like lodge the ball into
- 51:18Speaker 5: that because he had fubbling issues too, he did, And
- 51:21Speaker 5: so like, you know, think like something like that, like
- 51:22Speaker 5: he's going to have some sort of like little little
- 51:25Speaker 5: thing that he's gonna be.
- 51:27Speaker 8: I mean, I you know, look, he's not Derek Henry,
- 51:28Speaker 8: but I imagine that, you know, to some extent, Verbel's looking
- 51:32Speaker 8: at the team being like, we got to be able
- 51:34Speaker 8: to run the ball a little bit. This guy's talented.
- 51:36Speaker 8: How do I get him to be reliable? You know,
- 51:39Speaker 8: and that just seems like one of the hardest things
- 51:41Speaker 8: to pull out of a young player's reliability. It's just,
- 51:44Speaker 8: you know, some guys have it, some guys don't. Sometimes
- 51:46Speaker 8: it develops, but for the most part, you don't got it.
- 51:48Speaker 3: You don't got it.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Finishing up to see, Madam john what kind of offense
- 51:52Speaker 2: do we want to see going forward? West Coast spread
- 51:55Speaker 2: aarhard Perkins. I know they all have multiple variations, but
- 51:58Speaker 2: if McDaniels comes back to run the air hard like
- 52:01Speaker 2: most believe, should the Patriots look to hire from Detroit's
- 52:04Speaker 2: staff as they also run the same scheme under Ben Johnson.
- 52:08Speaker 2: Maybe they bring in fresh ideas on offense under the
- 52:10Speaker 2: same scheme and it jumps to the offense forward. I'm
- 52:13Speaker 2: also okay with keeping the West Coast, but maybe they
- 52:15Speaker 2: should look to hire from the La Rams in that case.
- 52:18Speaker 2: I know each hiring probably requires a promotion. Is run
- 52:22Speaker 2: game coordinator a past game coordinator considered a promotion? Either way,
- 52:26Speaker 2: I feel like this will be the big topic until
- 52:28Speaker 2: coordinators are announced for the team. Looking forward to the
- 52:31Speaker 2: offseason shows and if things get slow, I will bringing
- 52:34Speaker 2: up food and restaurant topics to get Paul Awake.
- 52:37Speaker 3: Thank you okay, and I like your email by the way,
- 52:41Speaker 3: just to.
- 52:41Speaker 5: Correct something I said last week along with an emailer, uh,
- 52:46Speaker 5: I checked in with some people about the Lions offense
- 52:49Speaker 5: because there's some contradicting, uh you know, stuff out there
- 52:53Speaker 5: about what kind of system Ben Johnson is running. Ben
- 52:57Speaker 5: Johnson really kind of runs his own system, and they
- 53:00Speaker 5: would not call it an EP offense. They also wouldn't
- 53:05Speaker 5: call it a West Coast offense. So some of the
- 53:07Speaker 5: protections that he runs are similar to the EP offense
- 53:11Speaker 5: in terms of pass protection. But they they pushed back
- 53:14Speaker 5: when I said that it wasn't an Airhart Perkins offense.
- 53:16Speaker 2: It's his own thing.
- 53:17Speaker 5: Yeah, and he's very very good because that staff hasn't
- 53:20Speaker 5: turned over a ton yet. Like no one has the playbook,
- 53:24Speaker 5: Like you can get the play book for the Josh
- 53:26Speaker 5: mcdaniels's playbook.
- 53:27Speaker 7: It's just out there.
- 53:28Speaker 2: Football offenses is the music offense. You know, they all
- 53:31Speaker 2: have roots and like the blues and then it became
- 53:34Speaker 2: jazz and you know all this stuff. Like but yeah,
- 53:37Speaker 2: you can you can figure out the roots of everything
- 53:39Speaker 2: and then new stuff emerges from it.
- 53:41Speaker 3: Now I want to ask Evan a question do you
- 53:43Speaker 3: think this is totally kind of off topic, but do
- 53:46Speaker 3: you think there are similarities between the Airhart Perkins system
- 53:50Speaker 3: and sort of a traditional West Coast.
- 53:55Speaker 5: There can be like you know we're talking we're talking
- 53:57Speaker 5: about language, right, We're talking about terminology.
- 54:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm just talking about the play concepts.
- 54:02Speaker 5: So the play Yeah, like everybody kind of runs a
- 54:05Speaker 5: lot of the same play concepts. Like what we're talking
- 54:07Speaker 5: about is like how do you communicate those play concepts
- 54:10Speaker 5: to the players. So in an Earnhart Perkins system, you
- 54:14Speaker 5: know they have protections in the fifties, sixties and seventies, right,
- 54:17Speaker 5: you know, fifty is five man, sixties six man, seven
- 54:20Speaker 5: man is seventy. In an in.
- 54:22Speaker 7: A West Coast offense, they don't use a system.
- 54:25Speaker 5: They use a different type of system.
- 54:27Speaker 3: Right in the rewards.
- 54:29Speaker 5: Yeah, to run protections and things like that. So it's
- 54:33Speaker 5: all about you know, everybody has the same you know,
- 54:36Speaker 5: no one's reinventing the wheel.
- 54:38Speaker 3: That's what really bothered U. Chad Johnson.
- 54:40Speaker 2: Oh yeah, but I couldn't say that. He couldn't be
- 54:46Speaker 2: on the terminology though. I just remember as a kid,
- 54:49Speaker 2: you know, watching what the Patriots did and Airhart Perkins
- 54:53Speaker 2: and everything, and then seeing that West Coast, you know,
- 54:56Speaker 2: kind of for the first time, say, there was a
- 54:58Speaker 2: to me, a you know, someone who's not as technical,
- 55:01Speaker 2: there was a clear difference in the way those offenses look.
- 55:04Speaker 2: The West Coast was more just rhythm, you know, short
- 55:07Speaker 2: pass that's what you know, you're.
- 55:09Speaker 3: Talking about when you were growing up as growing up. Yeah,
- 55:12Speaker 3: I'm talking about the air Heart Perkins like in the
- 55:14Speaker 3: modern times with like Tom Brady.
- 55:17Speaker 2: Yeah, but that started before Tom Brady.
- 55:19Speaker 3: You know, I understand that Ronnie and Heart was here
- 55:21Speaker 3: in the late seventies. Andy Perkins sort of you know,
- 55:24Speaker 3: came in with that. I get that, but it's not
- 55:27Speaker 3: the same. But I thought there's a lot of like
- 55:31Speaker 3: quick hitters to the outside first. You know, they're like
- 55:35Speaker 3: first down plays, like move the chains kind of plays,
- 55:38Speaker 3: stay ahead of the sticks kind of plays concepts, And
- 55:41Speaker 3: to Evan's point, I think there are you know, there's
- 55:44Speaker 3: only so many different ways to reinvent the wheel. I
- 55:46Speaker 3: think there's a lot of similarities. Bill used to really
- 55:49Speaker 3: push back on that, which is why I asked you
- 55:52Speaker 3: what you thought, Brian, and I think talked to Bill
- 55:56Speaker 3: about it. This a lot of West Coast. It's not
- 55:58Speaker 3: a West Coast No, but he almost got mad.
- 56:01Speaker 2: No, but it's true. But I think that that West
- 56:04Speaker 2: Coast wrinkle into the EP was a recent thing, Like
- 56:08Speaker 2: that was something that with Troy Brown here, like they
- 56:13Speaker 2: kind of installed because we need to do this.
- 56:15Speaker 3: But what you're talking about like the original, like you're
- 56:18Speaker 3: talking about a completely run based offense, like the like
- 56:23Speaker 3: the Earhart Perkins thing was all run based. Of course,
- 56:25Speaker 3: it had nothing to do with West Coast. Like Bill
- 56:28Speaker 3: Walsh started the West Coast. Wow, teams are throwing, like
- 56:33Speaker 3: everybody ran like two backs at once and ran the
- 56:36Speaker 3: ball constantly like in the late seventies, you know, like
- 56:39Speaker 3: you'd have like almost like an offset full back and
- 56:42Speaker 3: anybody could get the ball, you know, running all kinds
- 56:45Speaker 3: of power and duo and crap like that. That put
- 56:49Speaker 3: everybody to sleep good.
- 56:50Speaker 2: But again, I think you got to get down. I
- 56:54Speaker 2: think no matter what system you like to run, you
- 56:56Speaker 2: have to adjust it to your personnel. You just have to. Yeah.
- 57:00Speaker 3: I just was curious to you know, like I just
- 57:02Speaker 3: feel like there's a lot of timing involved with like Brady,
- 57:05Speaker 3: you know, it's third and three, we're just gonna we're
- 57:07Speaker 3: gonna get the snap, the ball is gonna be out.
- 57:09Speaker 3: Joey bos is gonna be pissed because he beat the
- 57:11Speaker 3: tackle in the blink of an eye, but the ball
- 57:13Speaker 3: was already out. West Coast offense kind of concept to me,
- 57:17Speaker 3: like rhythm boo, you know, but it wasn't the same.
- 57:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I'd say that. One of the other big differences
- 57:23Speaker 5: between you know, what the Patriots have done in the
- 57:26Speaker 5: past with McDaniels and Brady and things like that, and
- 57:28Speaker 5: the West Coast teams is the amount of formations that
- 57:32Speaker 5: you would use in this offense in terms of, uh,
- 57:35Speaker 5: you know, mixing up formations with personnel groupings and things
- 57:38Speaker 5: like that. West Coast offenses, like Sean McVay is an
- 57:41Speaker 5: eleven personnel team, Like they run three wide receivers like
- 57:44Speaker 5: ninety percent of the time. And I like how they
- 57:46Speaker 5: changed yeah too, Yeah, they're not just they don't do
- 57:49Speaker 5: a ton of that. They go into games with maybe
- 57:52Speaker 5: like twenty different formations in the install The Patriots would
- 57:55Speaker 5: probably go into games with like double that, right, So,
- 57:58Speaker 5: like you have different Their offense is all based on
- 58:01Speaker 5: we're gonna run a lot of the same formations, but
- 58:04Speaker 5: we're gonna run different plays out of those formations, whereas
- 58:07Speaker 5: the Patriots were basically just a menu of we could
- 58:11Speaker 5: do whatever we need on this particular day, this particular
- 58:14Speaker 5: drive to move the football so we could be under center,
- 58:17Speaker 5: we could be spread, we could be empty, we could
- 58:19Speaker 5: be whatever.
- 58:19Speaker 2: And then they get Hernandez and they changed again.
- 58:22Speaker 3: But that's the like the to put the finger on
- 58:24Speaker 3: the thing that I would be most concerned about is that,
- 58:28Speaker 3: because I do think everything Evan just said is one
- 58:30Speaker 3: thousand percent right. And Brady allowed them to do that.
- 58:33Speaker 2: Yes, yes, and I have not seen Yes, it's a
- 58:39Speaker 2: Brady off like I have.
- 58:40Speaker 3: Not seen other quarterbacks run at anywhere near the level
- 58:43Speaker 3: of efficiency. They've been okay with Castle, and you know,
- 58:47Speaker 3: for a couple of games with Mac Jones when they
- 58:49Speaker 3: play like Jacksonville and score fifty points. He I love
- 58:54Speaker 3: it because it's so like So someone had a stat
- 58:59Speaker 3: and I don't remember the exact numbers, but these are close.
- 59:03Speaker 3: Josh mcdaniels's offense with Tom Brady scored more than twenty
- 59:08Speaker 3: points something like sixty something percent of the games or something.
- 59:14Speaker 3: I mean, some ridiculously high number like that. It's over
- 59:16Speaker 3: over sixty nine percent of the games or something. Without him,
- 59:22Speaker 3: the number dropped by like forty percent. Like, I mean,
- 59:26Speaker 3: that makes a perfect sense. You're not going to be
- 59:28Speaker 3: able to score as much with Sam Bradford and Matt
- 59:32Speaker 3: Castle and Mac Jones, you know, and Jakoby Bush said
- 59:38Speaker 3: Tim Tebow, Kyle Orton, like they make Plumber, Yeah, they
- 59:43Speaker 3: never had. I don't even think he had Jake Plumber.
- 59:45Speaker 3: I think it was Kyle Orton. Okay, I think he
- 59:48Speaker 3: had as his quarterback in Denver. It so it makes sense,
- 59:53Speaker 3: But I just wonder, is it the system that we're
- 59:55Speaker 3: like in love with or is it just like to
- 59:57Speaker 3: Evan's point, Brady's ability to do whatever it needed to
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: be done.
- 1:00:01Speaker 8: It's also organic, you know, And that's what you have,
- 1:00:03Speaker 8: same systems, but you have different players and different coaches,
- 1:00:07Speaker 8: and each one kind of evolves in their own way,
- 1:00:10Speaker 8: you know.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: And it's like you try to it's a people business.
- 1:00:12Speaker 8: You can't even really compare the two. At a certain point,
- 1:00:15Speaker 8: all right, I gotta eat, We're gonna take a break.

- 1:01:39Speaker 14: I want to use this opportunity to thank them in
- 1:01:41Speaker 14: front of you. You'll get to know some of them,
- 1:01:44Speaker 14: most of them. And I want to thank my family.
- 1:01:47Speaker 14: I want to thank Jen, it's been along for this
- 1:01:50Speaker 14: ride for quite a while, Tyler and Carter, who grew
- 1:01:54Speaker 14: up here, who spent time here. You know, it probably
- 1:01:58Speaker 14: wasn't the easiest thing to be my son as I
- 1:02:03Speaker 14: was trying to figure this out and figure out the
- 1:02:05Speaker 14: difference between being a dad and being a coach. So
- 1:02:08Speaker 14: I love them dearly. You'll see them around hopefully.
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: Obviously.
- 1:02:13Speaker 14: Want to thank my parents, thank Chuck and e Lane.
- 1:02:16Speaker 14: And as I go through this interview process, I'm always
- 1:02:20Speaker 14: quick to tell people that I'm an only child and
- 1:02:23Speaker 14: only children are spoiled, which I was. I was an
- 1:02:25Speaker 14: only child of two educators. But my dad was a
- 1:02:28Speaker 14: basketball coach and assistant football coach, and he taught me
- 1:02:32Speaker 14: what it.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: Was to.
- 1:02:35Speaker 14: Be tough, to work hard, and to embrace being part
- 1:02:39Speaker 14: of a team and loving being part of a team,
- 1:02:42Speaker 14: and how powerful that can be when you're an only child.
- 1:02:45Speaker 14: Those are probably hard things to understand, but I would
- 1:02:48Speaker 14: tell you that those are things that I built on,
- 1:02:50Speaker 14: that I believe in that I want to try to
- 1:02:52Speaker 14: put as many people in this building and around our
- 1:02:55Speaker 14: players that are like that, so I thank them. I
- 1:02:58Speaker 14: want to thank Robert and Jonathan and Daniel and the
- 1:03:01Speaker 14: entire Craft family not only for the time that I
- 1:03:06Speaker 14: spent here as a player, but the experience a year
- 1:03:10Speaker 14: and a half ago that Robert mentioned with the Hall
- 1:03:13Speaker 14: of Fame, just the class that they showed myself, my family,
- 1:03:17Speaker 14: my friends, the people that came. You know, I think
- 1:03:22Speaker 14: the biggest one of the biggest groups like to thank
- 1:03:25Speaker 14: are the players that have impacted me along the way
- 1:03:28Speaker 14: from Ohio State that when I didn't know what I
- 1:03:32Speaker 14: was doing, I had no idea. I just try to
- 1:03:35Speaker 14: figure it out as I went along to the ones
- 1:03:39Speaker 14: that I had in Houston to the ones in Tennessee.
- 1:03:44Speaker 14: Robert mentioned that we won twelve games in two thousand
- 1:03:47Speaker 14: and one. We played ninety one players, and they all
- 1:03:51Speaker 14: cared about the team immensely. They would do whatever it
- 1:03:54Speaker 14: took for the team to win. And with that, the
- 1:03:58Speaker 14: coaches that have impacted me along the way, my high
- 1:04:00Speaker 14: school football coach Jerry Reardon, I think I've had a
- 1:04:04Speaker 14: great opportunity to play for, to coach with, and coach
- 1:04:09Speaker 14: for some unbelievable mentors people that have helped shape me,
- 1:04:13Speaker 14: from John Cooper, Bill Cower, John Mitchell, Romeo Cornell, Bill
- 1:04:21Speaker 14: Belichick and the multiple coaches that were here to to
- 1:04:27Speaker 14: to Luke Fickle, to Urban Meyer, to Bill O'Brien, who
- 1:04:33Speaker 14: who you know, held up his end of the bargain
- 1:04:36Speaker 14: when he asked me to come to the Houston Texans
- 1:04:38Speaker 14: with him. He said, I'm going to do everything I
- 1:04:39Speaker 14: can to get you ready to be a head coach.
- 1:04:42Speaker 10: Uh.
- 1:04:42Speaker 14: He did that, and he's a he's a great friend,
- 1:04:44Speaker 14: and I'm going to support Billy every way I can
- 1:04:47Speaker 14: up the road at Chestnut Hill. So you know, the
- 1:04:52Speaker 14: assistant coaches that have, you know, held me accountable to
- 1:04:57Speaker 14: leading the team sometimes when you know when you're not
- 1:05:01Speaker 14: right or you need somebody to say, hey, there's another way.
- 1:05:04Speaker 14: And I want to thank those coaches because to be
- 1:05:07Speaker 14: in this situation you need so many people around you
- 1:05:11Speaker 14: and you put in place to to help the players.
- 1:05:15Speaker 14: I want to thank the teams that were, you know,
- 1:05:17Speaker 14: willing to meet with me through this process to give
- 1:05:21Speaker 14: me an opportunity to potentially lead their team. But in
- 1:05:25Speaker 14: the end, you know, it was clear to me and
- 1:05:27Speaker 14: to my family and my soul that this was the
- 1:05:31Speaker 14: place that I wanted to be. And I think Robert,
- 1:05:34Speaker 14: and I think the Craft family, you know, excited, excited
- 1:05:41Speaker 14: to get to work, Excited to meet the people in
- 1:05:43Speaker 14: this building that have made this play special, find out
- 1:05:48Speaker 14: what they need, find out how I can help them,
- 1:05:50Speaker 14: how I can help them do their job better, how
- 1:05:53Speaker 14: we can enhance the stuff that we do well, and
- 1:05:55Speaker 14: then find out what the areas of focus are and
- 1:05:58Speaker 14: get to work. I want to galvanize our football team.
- 1:06:03Speaker 14: I want to galvanize this building. I want to gualvanize
- 1:06:07Speaker 14: our fans. And the most important thing are the players.
- 1:06:10Speaker 14: There's some of them right here. I want to provide
- 1:06:12Speaker 14: a program that provides their ownership but also their accountability
- 1:06:18Speaker 14: of each other, and one that they'll be proud to
- 1:06:21Speaker 14: be a part of and that they're going to fight for.
- 1:06:25Speaker 14: You know, you guys are going to ask me questions
- 1:06:27Speaker 14: about culture, which I'll be happy to talk about and discuss.
- 1:06:32Speaker 14: One thing I've realized about culture is that you can
- 1:06:34Speaker 14: find out what your culture looks like when your family,
- 1:06:37Speaker 14: your business, or your team is that it's low point.
- 1:06:40Speaker 14: It's not when you're winning Super bowls, or it's not
- 1:06:43Speaker 14: when you're seven and one or ten and one, because
- 1:06:46Speaker 14: then then everybody's waving towels and everybody's happy and they're
- 1:06:49Speaker 14: excited to come to work. But when you get hit
- 1:06:51Speaker 14: in the mouth, or you're down, or the chips are
- 1:06:54Speaker 14: against you, you know, then you can take a snapshot
- 1:06:56Speaker 14: of what your company or your team looks like, and
- 1:06:58Speaker 14: then you'll find out what kind of culture you have.
- 1:07:01Speaker 14: But that culture is going to be built on winning,
- 1:07:04Speaker 14: a competitive spirit throughout our roster, throughout our players, and
- 1:07:09Speaker 14: throughout our coaches and our staff, and the ability to
- 1:07:13Speaker 14: put the team first and care about somebody other than yourself.
- 1:07:17Speaker 14: And I'm excited to do that. I'm excited to get
- 1:07:20Speaker 14: to work. But everything and everyone in this building is
- 1:07:24Speaker 14: going to under stand and believe that their job is
- 1:07:27Speaker 14: critically important uh for our success, and it's going to
- 1:07:31Speaker 14: be you know, how can I help you in order
- 1:07:34Speaker 14: to help the players. Our players will respect and they
- 1:07:37Speaker 14: will appreciate and they will be grateful for the opportunity
- 1:07:40Speaker 14: that they have here. And the people that work in
- 1:07:42Speaker 14: this building some some very familiar faces that I can't
- 1:07:46Speaker 14: wait to reconnect and to work and figure out how
- 1:07:49Speaker 14: we help these players in this football team, and we're
- 1:07:52Speaker 14: going to earn the right to be here every day.
- 1:07:56Speaker 14: We're gonna removeing uh entitlement from from our football team.
- 1:08:01Speaker 14: We're gonna we're gonna get everything that we've earned from
- 1:08:05Speaker 14: from the head coach to the position coaches all the
- 1:08:08Speaker 14: way down to the players. We're going to earn the
- 1:08:10Speaker 14: right to be here every single day. You know, I
- 1:08:14Speaker 14: always say that I don't want to get into too
- 1:08:16Speaker 14: many messages that will be geared for the players, you know,
- 1:08:21Speaker 14: but I hold those those conversations. Those are special conversations
- 1:08:26Speaker 14: between the coaches and the players. But you know, we
- 1:08:29Speaker 14: want to treat every player the same way they treat
- 1:08:31Speaker 14: the team, and we want to treat every employee the
- 1:08:34Speaker 14: same way that they treat the team. And if they
- 1:08:36Speaker 14: care about the team and they come here with a
- 1:08:39Speaker 14: great attitude and a willingness to work and help the team,
- 1:08:42Speaker 14: I've asked Robert to do everything that we can for
- 1:08:45Speaker 14: them to support them and their families. That's the type
- 1:08:49Speaker 14: of environment that I want to build.
- 1:08:55Speaker 13: And now, great moments in.
- 1:09:00Speaker 11: History, I just don't want to race out to a
- 1:09:02Speaker 11: lead and you know, get your whole right touchdown you know,
- 1:09:07Speaker 11: fourth quarter, you're up like fourteen, or that touchdown touchdown
- 1:09:11Speaker 11: like a no.
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: And that's what he's done to so many teams.
- 1:09:14Speaker 11: And you understand how maddening it is when you think
- 1:09:18Speaker 11: you got them the whole game and then all of
- 1:09:19Speaker 11: a sudden, it just clicks and it's like, oh, they
- 1:09:21Speaker 11: just want berserker mode and you can't stop them.
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: Scracks me up. I just want to have a lead
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: and have him break my heart.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: I don't want to go through another.
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: You're gonna see me kidnapping him after the game, like
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: bringing him back what we are on the radio.
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: That's another great moment from.
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: What did I say?
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: I don't know, I was.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: I wasn't really listen. You said you give your left
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: nut for a twelve and four seasons. Well, you have
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: a coach who said he'd do worse if you want
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: a super Bowl, so right he did. We should have
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: reminded him of that yesterday. I have that knife in
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: my office. I could have.
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: I'm always surprised you didn't, because that's usually top of
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: mind for you.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: Mike. I'm saving this for when you win your first
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: Super Bowl. Let's get back to the emails podcast at
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: Patriots dot Com. Michelle, who loves it when I call
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: her Shilata. Oh nice, yeah, she says.
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: I'm here from Michelle.
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: I'm stoked that Vrabel is the coach. I think that's
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: what the organization needs. It's stability from top to bo
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: him and he'll bring that. And I hear he comes
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: with his own Irdie Adams, John stretched Striker who worked
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: with him in Tennessee. I also think Josh would be
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: great for Drake in more ways than one who's is.
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: Josh Yeah, yeah, his name is starting to go around
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: a little bit. Uh.
- 1:10:44Speaker 7: He was with Rabel and Tennessee.
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: He's in with the Rams this past year working with
- 1:10:50Speaker 5: McVeigh and he is Rabel's clock management guru. You know
- 1:10:56Speaker 5: his Evan Rothstein has Ernie Adams, so Paul sitting right here.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: I don't why.
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: Why I don't I don't know. I don't know. If
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: you know that's as easy as like I'm gonna go
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: with Mike in New England or what.
- 1:11:11Speaker 7: But he's currently on the right striker.
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: You know what I would do. I would chill like
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: Micha wuld be like do you need to call a
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: time out?
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: I'm gonna I don't know because it comes to naturally
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: to you. But in the moment like that first time,
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: would you have the handle on the clock like you
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: do when you're talking here.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: I'm sure I wouldn't. There are plenty of times that
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: I'd be like, oh, that was a weird time, and
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: then you think about it afterwards, you like, but I
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: would also do this if I was actually you know,
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: this is kind of like Evan's version of if we
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: were actually in the roles that people make fun of
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: us about, right, I would actually have the math committed
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: to memory, which I don't right now. You know, in
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: terms of minute thirty two, you know, it takes x
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: amount of seconds to do these two plays and the
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: different plays that you would run, Like, I don't know all.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: That you need all the scenarios, right.
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: But those guys should have all of that committed to memory.
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: And I'm not talking about how much time it takes
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: on a completed pass over the middle to run the
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: team off the field. It's fourth down, you got to
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: kick the field goal. You know, people you know, like
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: seventeen second, sixteen nineteen, like somewhere in that area. You know,
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: the sort of fire drill of going on and off
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: the other day. What was the game that they were
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: that really got under my skin, all of them? Yeah, Tooche,
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: Mike knows me so well. No, Turrico, I think it
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: was was like you know, yeah, I think it was
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: the Tampa Bay Washington game. It was Tariko And it's
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: like they got the ball at like the ten yard line.
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: They wanted to save the time out so they could
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: do different things. Now that puts the run in the
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: pass and play. They're at like the ten yard line,
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: You're gonna have three plays in the end zone. There
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: was like they let it run down to like sixteen
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: seconds and then they eventually called time out because I
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: think they wanted to get the play right. Well they
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: lost ten seconds. Oh no, And I'm like, you're at
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: like the eight yard line, you have sixteen seconds left,
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: you have three plays in the end zone. If you
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: don't get it, you're gonna kick a field goal. Time's
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: not going to be a factor here, right, Like that's
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: the kind of stuff I don't need to.
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: Think it's gonna be.
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: You know, you know it turned out to them, but
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: I think it should come natural to anybody who can
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: actually count.
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: Well.
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: Plus I think to me, like I don't think it's
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: ad like, I'm not trying to be like sort of
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: like self deprecating. I don't think it's a difficult thing.
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: But none of the announcers seem to understand, Like.
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: In my head, I can. I can clearly see and
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: it would be a lot of work how you could
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: create the formula, you know.
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: Oh, I'm sure, I'm sure Ernie Adams has a formula.
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: I'm sure Bill Pricels used, you know, the whole the
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: card when to go for two? It's my car. Well,
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: how do you know it's my card? They do, They
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: have formulas.
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: But like the conditions change and those are the variables.
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: But you plug just those variables into the constant and
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: you get your answer, you know, right.
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: And you know that particular situation ended up being a
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: point because the first play they got a pass interference
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: in the end zone, so the ball went to the
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: one yard line and they just they threw it into
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: Mike Evans. But the amount of times you watch a
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: game and the play by play guy is sort of
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: incredulous with how methodical an offense is being. You know,
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: there's thirty five seconds left running clock, they're out, Like
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: the thirty five yard because there's no urgency, buddy, You're
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: either going to continue to move the ball and score
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: or you're gonna kick a field goal and take the
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: rest of the time of the half off. You know,
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: it's not that hard. The Penn State Notre Dame game,
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: did you watch the end of that game?
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: Greg McElroy lost his ever loving mind at the end
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: of that game.
- 1:14:53Speaker 5: Did you watch this, Yes, but he like messed up,
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: like he like well three.
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: Times out like again, not hard things, Like for some
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: reason they threw a little pass on third down which
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: got him like inside the twenty, made it an easy
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: field goal. There's like twenty five seconds left, and for
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: some reason Notre Name ran to the line and spiked it.
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: Sean McDonough, who's the play by play guy, not the analyst,
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: he immediately says, I'm not really sure why they spiked
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: the ball there, which anybody watching with a pulse said
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: the same thing. Let the clock run down. If you
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: want to make a snap, move the ball in the
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: area of the field that's best for your kicker. Whatever,
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: they had timeouts, there was no need to spike the ball,
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: and McElroy says, well, you know you don't want to
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: be in a situation where you have to rush the
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: field goal. You know, Greg, they have two timeouts. You
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: have the ability to stop the clock anytime you want.
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: You don't need to spike the ball and waste to play. Plus,
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: I don't know why you would want to stop the
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: clock in the first place. That allowed Penn State to
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: then take two timeouts. And I know there was only
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: like eight seconds left, but Notre Dame should have kicked
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: that game winning field goal with two seconds left and
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: time should have expired. They shouldn't have had to kick
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: off and worry about two Hail Mary's. And Greg McElroy
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: is still baffled and befuddled by the whole thing. A,
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: my wrong, you watched it right now, you're right.
- 1:16:16Speaker 5: I mean he messed up multiple times. I can't remember
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: the exact instances, but I remember that one. And there
- 1:16:21Speaker 5: was another one.
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: I'm not even counting when he said, you go aggressive
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: here because Drew Eller has protected the ball so well. Yeah,
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: and then literally the next play he threw a pick.
- 1:16:30Speaker 5: Yeah, that guy stinks.
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: Also ignored the fact that he threw two picks earlier
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: in the game that got overturned by penalties. That were horrific, bad.
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: Plays people by ylor people wonder why, like the league
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: reaches on quarterbacks and then there and then you just
- 1:16:43Speaker 5: watch them swoon over Drew Aller and I'm just like.
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: I told you. Someone said that he would be a
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: top ten pin if he came out, and I should.
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: I don't think he's any good.
- 1:16:54Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, there there was.
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: So he committed to go back to Penn State before
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: the playoff began, right, and then through back channels or whatever,
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: people were like, you might want to enter the draft,
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: like the league is really really.
- 1:17:07Speaker 14: High on it.
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: Yeah, this is the year.
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: Yeah, you might go number one overall. And then he
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: can't hit the broad side of a bar.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: He was he failed, Yeah, and he choked.
- 1:17:17Speaker 5: And it's not just exact game like a lot of
- 1:17:19Speaker 5: Penn State fans were coming at like just that you
- 1:17:21Speaker 5: watched one game like.
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: No, no, no, Ohio State.
- 1:17:24Speaker 5: Yeah no, I watched all the game.
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: They had every opportunity to beat the the win the
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: Ohio State and they were inside the five multiple he
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: could make a play.
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: Yep. Garyan Harvard rites in let's get back to the
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: emails at podcasts at Patriots dot com said last year
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: the team chose their captains. Should that continue or should
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: Rabel choose them? It's a good question. That's a good question.
- 1:17:45Speaker 8: That's a philosophical question. I think captains or the players choose.
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: To Can I just be that the guys as I
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: think the coach always picks the captains loosely?
- 1:17:55Speaker 8: I think, I mean I have personal experience with that.
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: I would concur if if they picked the wrong guys,
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: they're not going to be the captains. Let's just put
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: it that way.
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: Yeah, Yemmy and Texas rights in, do you agree with
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: me that Justin Herbert is mentally weak? The Chargers were
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: favored to win last week and he couldn't handle the expectations.
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: That first interception he threw was that of a guy
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: who was scared of the moment, just total panic.
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: My fear is, what, what about the first quarter and
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: a half of the game. Wouldn't be afraid of the moment?
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: Then he came out on fire.
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: Maybe the moment wasn't as big then, Okay.
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: So once they were winning the game, the moment got.
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: To My fear is that Drake may is the same.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: The pick in overtime to lose the Titans game was
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: a guy who panicked and threw down the field for
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: no good reason. Do you share my concern or am
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: I too harsh? Hopefully Rabel can help him with that.
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: I think that's yeah, he was a rookie mistake.
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: But I agree with his Herbert criticism. I think there's
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: something I love justin Herbert. I think there's something destined
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: about him to not win as much as he should.
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: And I don't know why don't. Maybe he's a choker.
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: Maybe the email is right.
- 1:19:02Speaker 5: I have that fear with Drake a little bit too.
- 1:19:04Speaker 8: I think that's reasonable, right, And that's the magic thing
- 1:19:07Speaker 8: you don't know, And that's exactly the opposite of what
- 1:19:09Speaker 8: you have with Brady. Brady had that magic through and through.
- 1:19:11Speaker 8: I mean every time you needed him to come through,
- 1:19:13Speaker 8: he did. And there's no way to look at Brady
- 1:19:15Speaker 8: and I mean, I guess maybe you look at some
- 1:19:17Speaker 8: of his college tape what he did. You know, you
- 1:19:19Speaker 8: can see that in big games he played well.
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: But this is funny. You know, it's hard to predict
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: the Rabel stuff. Yesterday might just be me. You guys
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: can tell me, Oh, Paul, your reaching. There were a
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: lot of questions that sort of led Rabel to the
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: anointing of Drake May, like, you know, like, how important
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: is it to get a you know, an offensive coordinat
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: it's going to work with your young you know, your
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: young ger. And I know that Rabel called him his young,
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: young dynamic quarterback at one point. But there were a
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: lot of questions about May having reached a level that
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: quite frankly, I don't think he's reached. And I wonder
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: how Rabel took all those And I started thinking to myself,
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: some bill two thousand and one bledso vibes two thousand
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: bledso vibes, like, yeah, he's good.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: Let's wait until he's good.
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: He's the started quarterback. I'll see how he is with me.
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: Yeah exactly, And then you know, you know, rabels like that,
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: and I just again, I might be putting too much
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: into it, but I thought there were a handful of
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: questions that, you know, guys, I wanted Drake May. I
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: think Drake May had a good rookie year. Good well,
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: good rookie year.
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: You look at him as a sun.
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: I like him a lot. I know you do because
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: I like this, because I like the skill set.
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: I really like the skills not going to get the
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: star treatment, but bas going to get star treatment.
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: But where I separate from a lot of my colleagues
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: is I didn't see in the twelve games what other
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: people are saying. They saw like there's nothing to worry about.
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: He's the guy. Here we go. I saw what Mike
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: is talking about. There were times that he looked great
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: and there were other times when games were on the
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: line where it didn't look as great. Right, And I
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: want to see how that goes next year. Yeah, before
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: I just say we're all set that spot.
- 1:21:05Speaker 8: Up, you were just so happy to be in the
- 1:21:06Speaker 8: games at that point. Like some of the mistakes you
- 1:21:08Speaker 8: would forgive them, and it's a rookie in but next
- 1:21:10Speaker 8: year the bar raises.
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: That's you know.
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: Don't made me do an exercise that I did with
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: Mac Jones and.
- 1:21:16Speaker 8: Break I would never make you do it.
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: No, no, no, break down the stats in one score games
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: and in multiple score games, because I'll guarantee you the
- 1:21:22Speaker 3: multiple score stats are much better than the ones stats.
- 1:21:25Speaker 5: I think that that's the best answer Rabel gave yesterday
- 1:21:29Speaker 5: was the one about what he's going to do to
- 1:21:31Speaker 5: help Drake May in terms of managing the game and
- 1:21:34Speaker 5: managing situations.
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: Keep him out of those situational.
- 1:21:37Speaker 5: Awareness of where he is on the field and what
- 1:21:39Speaker 5: the score is and all that kind of stuff, so
- 1:21:41Speaker 5: that when they get into an overtime game in Tennessee
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: like they did last year, say to him, hey, we
- 1:21:46Speaker 5: don't need it all in one play, right, Like, you
- 1:21:48Speaker 5: don't don't get greedy here and try to win the
- 1:21:51Speaker 5: game on one throw. You know, let's let's get into
- 1:21:54Speaker 5: the drive, Let's get the ball moving, Let's let's get
- 1:21:57Speaker 5: some things rolling here first. And I think those are
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: the types of little things that Rabel hopefully will be
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: in Drake May's ear about when they start drives, like
- 1:22:05Speaker 5: not calling the plays, but just saying, hey, this is
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: a situation. This is what I need to out of
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: you in this situation, and let's not go for the
- 1:22:12Speaker 5: home run.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: Chris with a T I A N talking about choking,
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: says not once did Evan mentioned pin Pool yesterday? Moment
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: was too big for the young man.
- 1:22:23Speaker 5: I think I see another one that you know, not
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: ball mill, that's not that's not basic install all right,
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: you go to pin pull in like we two a
- 1:22:31Speaker 5: training camp. Yeah, okay, least.
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: That's not basic install. You got to be a ball
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: in the Okay poll boy, But you know part of
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: that Drake may thing too, And Michael tell you, I'm
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: a broken record on this is like and I believe
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: it started with that bomb in Tennessee. It felt like
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: they stopped throwing the ball downfield as consistently as they did,
- 1:22:56Speaker 3: maybe right away, like I think it's Houston. I think
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: he was throwing it the field, you know. And then
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: it seemed to me like every time they dialed up
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: a shot, he took it, whether it was there or not.
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: And Evan made a good point, it almost always seemed
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: to be to like Kishan Booty who didn't really seem
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: to track those very well and when he was double covered,
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: didn't seem to like fight through to prevent bad plays,
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: you know. But I felt like he got to the point, well,
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: I mean, they never let me throw with bomb, so
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: they dialed up a bomb here, right, you know?
- 1:23:30Speaker 5: Yeah, I uh, you know with Herbert real quick. The
- 1:23:34Speaker 5: I'm not ready to like go there with Herbert yet,
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: because to your point earlier about the Chargers, like I
- 1:23:39Speaker 5: don't think the Chargers were necessarily ready to be where
- 1:23:42Speaker 5: they were, Like, I don't think that.
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: They thought they were better than Houston though, and that
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: was a bad performance.
- 1:23:47Speaker 5: But I don't I didn't think they were going they
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: were ready.
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: Super Bowl was against US.
- 1:23:52Speaker 5: I don't think the roster was ready to go on
- 1:23:54Speaker 5: a run yet, is my point right? Like, I think
- 1:23:56Speaker 5: that they're really truly a year or two away from
- 1:23:59Speaker 5: truly being in that upper enchelon to go on a
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: deeper playoff run. So I'll but I do have that
- 1:24:04Speaker 5: fear with Drake May that he's going to look good,
- 1:24:06Speaker 5: that the stats are going to look good, that he's
- 1:24:08Speaker 5: gonna look flashy. But there's a lot of quarterbacks like that,
- 1:24:11Speaker 5: Herbert Trevor, Lawrence, Matthew, Stafford until he got to the Rams.
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: Like, there's a lot of like quarterbacks that didn't win
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: much that put up really good numbers. And I don't
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: necessarily think Drake May is one of those. But I mean,
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: go back and look at Gardner Minshew's rookie year, like
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: you think, this guy, what's a diamond in the rough?
- 1:24:32Speaker 5: That was a garbage time.
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: I mean all of it was in garbage and people
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: have never realized it.
- 1:24:37Speaker 8: I mean Peyton Manning, you know, I'm not talking about
- 1:24:39Speaker 8: his crappy first year, but dominant record setting playoff you know,
- 1:24:44Speaker 8: sporadic until O six seven years.
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: If Tom Brady was in the league, he'd have about
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: four same with him.
- 1:24:50Speaker 8: I saw an article two with the same thing that
- 1:24:52Speaker 8: Mahomes is doing to some of these teams. Now, where
- 1:24:54Speaker 8: you know, is this going to be Lamar's legacy?
- 1:24:56Speaker 3: And so what I didn't understand about that is like
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: I think they were trying to make an inference that
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: like Peyton Manning's legacy, Like, oh, does Peyton Manning have
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: to put his head down? I know he's Fred's right.
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: He probably would have had a few more if not
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: for Brady, but he beat him a couple of times. Yeah,
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: beat him in the playoffs more than Brady beat him.
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: He was three and two against Brady in the playoffs.
- 1:25:19Speaker 8: Then, like, you know, five hits. The narrative is that, well,
- 1:25:22Speaker 8: it's amazing in the regular season.
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: Who has a regular who has a record of winning
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: record against Brady in the playoffs, I'm going to benure
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: a guess that's the only guy.
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: Well, yeah, but six he shouldn't know that was they
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: stole that game.
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: Well, they pumped in the flu noise. Cheaters, cheaters, Dallas
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: if Dallas Clark, he wouldn't have done a thing if
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: Rodney Harrison wasn't.
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: Rodney Harrison, Jake and Melbourne, Australia. Unlikely scenario, but something
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: to think about. Hypothetical trade between the Patriots and the Cowboys.
- 1:25:58Speaker 3: Cowboy trades Cowboys, hypothetical trade. I'm in Cowboys get our
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: four to get Micah Parsons. Patriots get Parsons in the
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: third round pick. Then the Patriots spend some cap space
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: extend Parsons. The Cowboys get the four for uh Shador
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: and they signed coach Prime. So I would say a
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: couple of things there. Now, how are you, if you're
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: the Cowboys, going to be assured that shud is going
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: to be available at four?
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: Uh?
- 1:26:25Speaker 8: Come together quick?
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: Well if it comes to that.
- 1:26:28Speaker 3: So my guess is that we have a budding thing here.
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: I think that's gonna be a thing until April with
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: with Evan. I don't think there's anything that Evan can
- 1:26:37Speaker 3: take to lose that number four pick.
- 1:26:40Speaker 5: No, I wouldn't say that. I just rolled my eyes.
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: No offence to like Micah Parsons is in the trade,
- 1:26:46Speaker 5: like this guy like Micah Parsons, They're not getting Micah
- 1:26:49Speaker 5: Parsons Like, okay, like you.
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: Know how talk radio works.
- 1:26:54Speaker 5: Let's take Micah Parsons and then maybe we'll call up
- 1:26:56Speaker 5: the forty nine ers and we'll ast for twent Williams
- 1:26:58Speaker 5: and then you know, like, oh the team.
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: That's just silly. He's like MICHAEH. Parsons is in a
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: contract they just resigned that they just resigned CD lamb.
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: Yeah, like maybe there's no way.
- 1:27:10Speaker 5: There's no way saying I'm just saying there's no way
- 1:27:13Speaker 5: that Jerry Jones could possibly afford anything more.
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: Well, he's kind of tighted.
- 1:27:17Speaker 5: I don't know, if you know, he's pretty cheap with players.
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: So let me ask you this. Forget about whether or
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: not you think it will happen, because I agree with you. Yeah,
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: would you do that deal Micah Parsons, you know and
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: other stuff? You know, Basically, the trader is Micah Parsions
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: for the fourth overall pick.
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: Do we still I wouldn't do it.
- 1:27:34Speaker 8: It doesn't include that I absolutely would do it, but
- 1:27:38Speaker 8: like you would do it from Micah Parks.
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: Think you're getting a player better than Micah Parsons at four.
- 1:27:43Speaker 7: One of those players in the league.
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: I just know he's a great player. Is he really is?
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: I would I would do that.
- 1:27:51Speaker 5: The only player that I think I've ever heard Bill
- 1:27:53Speaker 5: say Lawrence Taylor maybe maybe like actually put him in
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: the same category as as like Lawrence Taylor. I think Michaeh.
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: Parson is the only guy I've ever heard him do
- 1:28:04Speaker 5: that with. And I'd say it a lot. I but
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: I I just all the I'm sorry, I don't mean
- 1:28:10Speaker 5: to like come at emailers and stuff, but like when
- 1:28:12Speaker 5: we get emails, it's like, well, what if the Raiders
- 1:28:15Speaker 5: trade us brock Bauers and the sixth overall pick for
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: four in this And.
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: That's a little different, like it was coming off his
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: rookie why with the Raiders, Like there's an answer to
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: the question as to why the trade Parsons. They don't
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: think they can resign the neighbors And again that's not
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: the same I'm with you. Email what's the emailer's name for, Jake? Jake,
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: I'm not you keep those hypothetical trades coming in. We'll
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: let you know when there's absolutely no possibility. There's absolutely
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: no possibility. I disagree. I think there's a chance that
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: someone could trade for Michael Parsons.
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: The other thing about why don't we get Miles do is?
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: Let's let's say that. Let's say Jerry signs Dion, So
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: Dion in two weeks from now is the head coach
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: of the Dallas Cowboys. He's gonna watch the door sand.
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: And I don't know if you know, but he hates
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: Penn State. Okay, Deon Sanders hates Penning.
- 1:29:10Speaker 5: So he's gonna trade trade Michael Persons.
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: Okay, so he's gonna want this guy. Is there a
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: chance that no matter who drafts Sanders, they refuse to
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: go there? And you have an Eli Mannings.
- 1:29:25Speaker 3: You see when rand Catherine got fire, Dion like retweeted
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: with the eyeballs. Oh yeah, so like that told me
- 1:29:34Speaker 3: like you just lost any opportunity you had to getting Sanders.
- 1:29:38Speaker 7: I would say the Browns are in that category.
- 1:29:40Speaker 5: Two. Oh, I don't think Sanders is going to the Cleveland.
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: Browns, which is another reason why Jake is sort of
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: he might be on reading the tea leaves and saying
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: maybe maybe will be available.
- 1:29:50Speaker 5: He's onto something that I jokingly, half jokingly put that
- 1:29:56Speaker 5: out there last night when the Shador Sanders thing came
- 1:29:58Speaker 5: to be, Sanders came one point four for one point
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: twelve and extra extract from Dallas's side that those trades
- 1:30:07Speaker 5: have been done before. You know, the Texans just did it,
- 1:30:10Speaker 5: uh for Will Anderson a couple of years ago. So
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: I put out the exact same package that they got,
- 1:30:16Speaker 5: you know, in exchange for that pick when they traded
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: back up to get Will Anderson.
- 1:30:20Speaker 7: It's just not going to include Michael Parsons.
- 1:30:22Speaker 5: Like, it's not. It's not going to include my Parsons.
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: It's not. Don't let him shout you down.
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: But in his scenario, we don't get Dallas's first you
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: know that, right, Yeah, but it's.
- 1:30:31Speaker 5: Not They're they're not trading Michael Parsons. Okay, period, Like
- 1:30:37Speaker 5: when does that happen? Like besides receivers, because he.
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: Traded Richard Seymour for first Yeah, when he was at
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: the end of his.
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: So when didn't Khalil Mack go from from Chicago ye
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: to the Raiders, not like in the in the prime
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: of his career, like defensive player of the year type player.
- 1:30:55Speaker 5: Okay, right, that was that an example eight years ago?
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: But all right, so why can't it happen again? Because
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: when does when did I just I just think it's
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: dismissing something that actually isn't out of the realm of possibility.
- 1:31:08Speaker 3: Obviously we'd be surprised if a trade of that magnitude happened.
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: But it's not the same as brock Bauers or elite
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: neighbors coming off their rookie years. Why why would teams
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: want to trade those guys like like that doesn't make
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: any sense, Like we had someone that wanted to wanted
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: to trade Joe Joe Milton from aligue aipors.
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: Like that is when it comes to like those types
- 1:31:30Speaker 5: of players, though I'm not talking you know, like Montes
- 1:31:33Speaker 5: Sweat got moved right and and Chase Young got moved
- 1:31:35Speaker 5: when Washington had that little fire sale. We're talking about
- 1:31:38Speaker 5: a different level of player. Really, the only position that
- 1:31:41Speaker 5: I see that happening at his wide receiver, like wide
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: receiver that's the most.
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: Often because they're the most disgruntled, right Absolutely, j Brown
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: is no doubt possibility Dk Metcalf people people are talking
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: about like trade for Dk Metcalf, trade for Micah Parsons, prosper.
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: Ford and Savannah has two reasons for Josh won his
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: track RN with QBS rookie Mac Jones went to the
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: Pro Bowl. Sorry two consistency. The Patriots have had five
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: different ocs in five years. He could be a highly
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: skilled long time coordinator like Steve Spagnola obviously on the
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: defensive side for the Chiefs.
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: And if he did, if he did it at the
- 1:32:22Speaker 3: level that Steve Spagnola has done it, then I think
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: we'd all say that's a home run. Yeah. Yeah, but
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: that's that's a big if.
- 1:32:28Speaker 5: Those are the arguments for him. But but I also
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: I think McDaniels runs a great offense. Like I don't
- 1:32:33Speaker 5: think it's just that he's not going to go anywhere, like,
- 1:32:35Speaker 5: don't settle for that, Like just oh, this guy is
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: not gonna get hired.
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: That's my point, right, I don't know why that is.
- 1:32:41Speaker 8: Never leave me.
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: I want the better offensive coordinator. If he leaves, that's
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: a good thing. That means he dominated. Yeah, he put
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: a great offense together.
- 1:32:49Speaker 5: But I do think McDaniel's a great offensive coordinator. I
- 1:32:51Speaker 5: think he's got a great scheme. I think he's really
- 1:32:53Speaker 5: it's a really sound scheme and they one of my
- 1:32:55Speaker 5: favorite parts about him is how it all fits together
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: like that you can there's a purpose to every single
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: play call and you're draw play you have that doesn't
- 1:33:04Speaker 5: happen as often as people think. And then there's there's
- 1:33:07Speaker 5: build a call. I there's builds two things right, Like
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: we're like, we're gonna run this play because later on
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: in the game we're gonna show the same look and
- 1:33:15Speaker 5: we're gonna run another play off of that play, And like,
- 1:33:17Speaker 5: those are the coordinators that are thinking about it. Next level,
- 1:33:20Speaker 5: you get too many coordinators nowadays are just call and place,
- 1:33:23Speaker 5: like they're just calling plays out of a hat and
- 1:33:25Speaker 5: there's no sequencing to what they're doing.
- 1:33:27Speaker 3: I wanted so we can stop bitching about the play
- 1:33:29Speaker 3: calls and the offensive coordinator in all seriousness because it's
- 1:33:32Speaker 3: the players.
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Uh, Trevor writes in really excited about Rabel's higher
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: This is probably more question for Evan, but happy to.
- 1:33:40Speaker 8: Hear all your thoughts, So thank you.
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: What are the chances we could hire Clint Kubiak to
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: be our OC? Rabel and Kubiak both have ties to
- 1:33:47Speaker 2: Stefanski and he is a coaching free agent. How would
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: you like to fit? Also, can we bring in Chris
- 1:33:53Speaker 2: olav Uh?
- 1:33:55Speaker 5: So, Yeah, guy, Clint Kubiak had a really good start
- 1:33:58Speaker 5: last year with new Orleans when everybody was healthy. They
- 1:34:01Speaker 5: got a lot of injuries, quarterback injuries, things like that,
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: and now you know their staff got blown out. So
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: I didn't have them on my list because I just,
- 1:34:09Speaker 5: I don't know, I thought that it really fell apart
- 1:34:11Speaker 5: there last year, and I'm kind of looking for the
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: next thing instead of you know, kind of that sort
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: of thing. But it's a name, like I'm not ruling
- 1:34:19Speaker 5: it out, like it's definitely somebody that could they could
- 1:34:21Speaker 5: be interested in. He runs the Outside Zone West Coast,
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: you know, yes, and he was in San Francisco, uh
- 1:34:30Speaker 5: with Kyle Shanahan.
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: Let's see who's this. This is William He says, I
- 1:34:37Speaker 2: wasn't listening live yesterday, so I'm writing now with my thoughts.
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: When Mike Rabel came to the show and Evan had
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: to stand in the corner, it reminded me of the
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: episode of the Office where Robert California takes over Kevin,
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: Andy and Daryl's band, So they had to stand in
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: the corner and play the tambourine. Evan, we appreciate you
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: and respect your ball knowledge. I'm excited about Rabel. Still
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: reeling a little bit from the male disaster and feeling
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: bad for Gerard, but this is moving in the right direction. Also,
- 1:35:03Speaker 2: why is Albert Brice so upset about the way the
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: Patriots did their search? Calling a garbage seems way out
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: of left field for him, and I'm just confused. He's
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: probably parenting something that somebody else said.
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: No, he's not. He's very upset about it.
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: Sham, It's a sham.
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: Sham interviews he did.
- 1:35:21Speaker 5: I would just like to know, like, what what difference
- 1:35:23Speaker 5: does it make? They were always gonna end up here.
- 1:35:27Speaker 5: So it just if they had done a three week
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: process with all these interviews and all whatever like, and
- 1:35:32Speaker 5: then just hired Rabel a week from now instead of
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: on Sunday, would it have really been that much different.
- 1:35:39Speaker 2: We talked about it yesterday. The rule needs to be
- 1:35:42Speaker 2: tweaked and or changed or replaced. Yep, it's it just
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: doesn't make sense.
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: So you should be able to hire who they want
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: to hire.
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: Let's see Jeff in Canada. You guys touched on this
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: yesterday in the Bonus coverage. I was sort of depressed
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: watching Washington on Sunday night. As Paul stated, they were
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: basically us last year and look at them now. Part
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: of me thinks that's the product of us bringing back
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: so many guys from a four and thirteen team where
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: the commander's got new players. Let's hope Rabels. Let's hope
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: with Rabel that's all in the past. Also correct me
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: if I'm wrong. But Rabel said the word analytics in
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: his opening comments, No way, that wasn't on purpose. He
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: also said the word speed many times. What do you
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: take from that?
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: Could he likes analytics?
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I loved I love that. I think the Patriots are,
- 1:36:31Speaker 5: if not the smallest, one of the smallest analytics departments
- 1:36:35Speaker 5: in the entire NFL in terms of their front office.
- 1:36:38Speaker 5: And I'm talking about player evaluation, not like fourth down
- 1:36:41Speaker 5: decision making and that kind of stuff. The amount of
- 1:36:44Speaker 5: analytics that bake into their grades and things like that.
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: They are well well behind the times in terms of that.
- 1:36:52Speaker 5: And I'm not saying it has to be everything, like
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: I wouldn't eBrace every decision I made off of analytics,
- 1:36:58Speaker 5: but they are their dinosaurs when it comes to that
- 1:37:01Speaker 5: sort of thing. And if he's gonna actually build out
- 1:37:04Speaker 5: an analytics department and have those people involved in personnel decisions,
- 1:37:08Speaker 5: I think that's for the best.
- 1:37:09Speaker 8: I wonder how much analytics plays into Elliott's scouting system
- 1:37:12Speaker 8: that he's trying to put in, Like, is that something
- 1:37:14Speaker 8: new you know that maybe he's pushing for. Maybe that's
- 1:37:17Speaker 8: part of the reason why he's been able to stick around.
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: Yeah, it's important, Like you know, there's all the in
- 1:37:21Speaker 5: game tracking data that we have now about you know,
- 1:37:24Speaker 5: how fast I are really running, how fast guys get
- 1:37:27Speaker 5: up the top speed, how quick they are through their
- 1:37:29Speaker 5: you know, their transitions or their breaks as receivers, like
- 1:37:32Speaker 5: those things. Talk about Nikola like we were talking about Yeah, yeah,
- 1:37:35Speaker 5: you know, the rams have a clip and obviously you know,
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: as we know, when it works, they you you parrot it,
- 1:37:41Speaker 5: you know, you trumpeted. But they they had like a
- 1:37:44Speaker 5: meeting with Less Sneed and Sean McVay before the draft
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: where they were talking about pokin Niakua and they were
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: saying that Pukinnakua, based off the analytics, is one of
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: the fastest players in college football. But then he ran
- 1:37:59Speaker 5: like a mid four five in the forty yard dash,
- 1:38:01Speaker 5: and Sean McVay unless Sneed said, we're not going to
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: pay attention to the forty yard dash because in season
- 1:38:07Speaker 5: he ran perfectly fine, and then they drafted Pukin Nakua
- 1:38:10Speaker 5: in the fifth round and the rest is history.
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: So what analytics said that he was faster than four
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: or five? Like what was the.
- 1:38:18Speaker 5: The miles per hour tracking in game? So nowadays all
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: these college programs used you know, Zebra Tech or something
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: like that with the chips to track how fast these
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: guys are running, so you can actually you can calculate
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: top speed, you can calculate acceleration, you can top you know,
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: calculate in the first ten yards, how fast does he
- 1:38:37Speaker 5: get up into? What speed does he get up to
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: because like obviously, like if you give a guy a
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: forty yard run, he's going to be faster than a
- 1:38:44Speaker 5: guy that's running five, right, but in terms of build
- 1:38:47Speaker 5: up and momentum and things like that, So he was
- 1:38:49Speaker 5: graded out really really high across the board analytically and
- 1:38:52Speaker 5: all those statistics, and that's the speed that they used
- 1:38:55Speaker 5: to you know, basically project what he was going to
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: be into the NFL.
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: Franklin and Baltimore. I know, I don't know if they count,
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: but I would consider both Luke Getzi and Shane Waldron
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: as OC's not getting the best of their talent. I do.
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: No part of this overlaps with fields who wasn't good,
- 1:39:12Speaker 2: but if you consider their roster, they'd never lived up
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: to the talent they had.
- 1:39:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's a really good one.
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: He had a couple of Oka offenses with Seattle, like
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: not not great, but.
- 1:39:23Speaker 3: Really good talent though, Yeah, and he had pieces around him.
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: I thought they should have been more productive even this year,
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: you know, even though it was a rookie quarterback. And
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: I know that the rookie quarterback probably has some maturity
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: issues that he needs to resolve. But I don't think
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: they they had a good plan, Let's put it that way.
- 1:39:40Speaker 3: Even someone who's not necessarily breaking it down the way
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: Evan does. You can watch that game against the Patriots,
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: and they didn't look like they had a clue. They
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: were doing a.
- 1:39:49Speaker 5: Little bit of breaking news. Okay, not Patriots adjacent.
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: Micah Parsons.
- 1:39:58Speaker 5: Interesting, The Browns have promoted Tommy Reest to offensive coordinator.
- 1:40:02Speaker 3: So it is definitely Patriots adjacent there.
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: It is.
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: So he's staying in Cleveland, so.
- 1:40:07Speaker 3: We can't make him the assistant head coach.
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: Across him off the list, Kay Tanaka, right, Sin, It
- 1:40:12Speaker 2: was obvious to any observer watching Josh Reduction press conferences
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: to see the difference in presence between Rabel and Mayo. Unfortunately,
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: Mayo was unprepared and overwhelmed. I felt on day one
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: they made a terrible but hope for the best. I
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: believe he tried too hard to do the right thing
- 1:40:29Speaker 2: for everyone and everything and overlook the essentials of being
- 1:40:32Speaker 2: a head coach by enforcing accountability, discipline, focused strategy, and
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: game planning. Rabel has demonstrated this in his previous work.
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: Mayo's a good man, He's smart, and I'd like to
- 1:40:42Speaker 2: see him succeed. The best thing for him would be
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: to take a position as a defensive coordinator and build
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: experience and being fully responsible for a defensive team from there.
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: I hope he gets another chance at head coach.
- 1:40:54Speaker 8: Do you wonder We've talked a lot about that. I
- 1:40:57Speaker 8: threw out Houston just with a Casario connection.
- 1:40:59Speaker 3: I mean, it's hard.
- 1:41:00Speaker 8: He doesn't have a lot of connections around the league
- 1:41:02Speaker 8: to really I think if he does go somewhere else,
- 1:41:05Speaker 8: it's going to be some random friendship that he had
- 1:41:07Speaker 8: that we weren't really aware of it.
- 1:41:09Speaker 3: He's really interested in that. I have a differing opinion
- 1:41:11Speaker 3: than most. I'm not sure he's going.
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: To get a job well, but.
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: You know, I have nothing to base that on with
- 1:41:19Speaker 3: the Tommy Reese thing, and they just put it up
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: on my show, Freddie. I wonder if he'll be calling
- 1:41:24Speaker 3: the place because Stefanski's been a guy who's called plays
- 1:41:29Speaker 3: for the most part, not exclusively, but for the most part,
- 1:41:32Speaker 3: he's been a guy. I wonder if he's finally ready
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: to say I think he has. I think there was
- 1:41:35Speaker 3: something in the off season that said that he was
- 1:41:38Speaker 3: willing to step away.
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: Fansky start by having his coordinator call the place, and
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: then he took it away from him.
- 1:41:43Speaker 3: I think he's done in both ways, you know a
- 1:41:45Speaker 3: little bit. But like Alex van Pelt did not call
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: the place right when he was the coordinator right. So
- 1:41:51Speaker 3: I do wonder if you know, at thirty two, maybe
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: it's a not yet gradual process.
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: Sam from Saint Catharine's I don't really agree with the
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: notion being pushed that Josh is a QB whisperer or
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: a great developer. Who is he actually developed? Everyone says
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: mac Jones, But he was not heralded as But was
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: he not heralded as the most pro ready QB when
- 1:42:13Speaker 2: he was coming out. Anyone else that came in under
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: Josh never really turned into good players. They're all backup
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: level players at most that developed under him. This is
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: not me pooh poohing the idea of Josh coming back.
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: I just keep hearing that narrative, but it doesn't make
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: sense to me.
- 1:42:29Speaker 5: I would say, the one quarterback other than Mac if
- 1:42:32Speaker 5: we're not giving him Mac that I would give him
- 1:42:34Speaker 5: a lot of credit for is Jimmy Garoppolo. Like, that's
- 1:42:36Speaker 5: a guy that was behind the scenes for what three
- 1:42:40Speaker 5: years here with the Patriots. As soon as Jimmy Garoppolo
- 1:42:43Speaker 5: got to San Francisco, he was ready to start for
- 1:42:45Speaker 5: the forty nine ers and had success right out of
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: the gate with San Francisco. They thought that he was
- 1:42:49Speaker 5: ready to start here if they had pulled the plug
- 1:42:52Speaker 5: on Brady earlier. So I get that to an extent,
- 1:42:55Speaker 5: but I have no questions whatsoever about Josh McDaniel's ability
- 1:43:00Speaker 5: to coach quarterbacks. I think he's been doing that for
- 1:43:02Speaker 5: long enough and has the resume to back up.
- 1:43:05Speaker 3: I would fall somewhere in between. I do have some reservations,
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: but not as many as the emailer. I mean, I
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: think that's what he said is kind of right.
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: I think Garoppolo in Castle was sort of mid starters
- 1:43:17Speaker 3: to backups, and I think they've had both of them
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: had success. Castle, people forget was a pro bowler when
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: he went to Kansas City his first year. But neither
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: one of those guys developed into much. And I would
- 1:43:29Speaker 3: say Garoppolo was ready to start in San Francisco. It
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: was like year five. He should have been, you know
- 1:43:35Speaker 3: by that time. This is a little bit of a
- 1:43:36Speaker 3: different situation. And what he said about Mac Jones is true.
- 1:43:41Speaker 5: He was.
- 1:43:41Speaker 3: As much as I didn't like him, he was considered
- 1:43:44Speaker 3: the most pro ready guy, That's true. And you hated
- 1:43:47Speaker 3: the way that they handled him.
- 1:43:48Speaker 2: I did, I would have.
- 1:43:50Speaker 5: But whatever would he have done with Mac Jones in
- 1:43:52Speaker 5: year two is always going to be the big absolutely, right.
- 1:43:55Speaker 5: Like if he came back with Mac Jones in year two.
- 1:43:57Speaker 3: And they didn't play Jacksonville and.
- 1:43:59Speaker 5: They didn't, you know, not do anything on the offensive
- 1:44:03Speaker 5: side of the ball to make the roster better, it
- 1:44:06Speaker 5: might have been different.
- 1:44:07Speaker 3: Well, they did do like the talent that he had,
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: they brought in talent around him as a rookie that
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: was the free agent splash class, you know, like that
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: was born Agalore Hunter, Henry John hu Smith. I mean
- 1:44:23Speaker 3: these are guys that I know people are gonna snicker,
- 1:44:26Speaker 3: you know at some of those guys like Agalore and Smith.
- 1:44:28Speaker 3: There's the guys that have gone to other places and
- 1:44:30Speaker 3: have at least been reasonably productive, especially Smith. Now Agalored
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: doesn't catch a lot of passes in Baltimore, but he's
- 1:44:36Speaker 3: one of those guys that tends to catch an important
- 1:44:38Speaker 3: one every week. You know. He didn't do that with
- 1:44:42Speaker 3: the Patriots. I put that not on Josh McDaniels. I
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: put that on mac Jones. But that's me.
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: Ben in Hershey, Pennsylvania. In twenty twenty two, McDaniels left
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: the Patriots to take the Raiders head coach job. At
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: the time, it seemed like there was a robust roster
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: of talent ready to be elevated, but it all fell
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: apart when Josh took so many coaches in staff with him, Ziegelo, Lombardi, Brisillo,
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: hard Degree Graham. Two questions. One would this have left
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: some bitter feelings in New England, making it less likely
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: that McDaniels would come back.
- 1:45:13Speaker 8: No, no, no, he was expected.
- 1:45:16Speaker 2: Everything's fine. If Bill was still here, maybe, I don't know,
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: but I don't think there's any bitter feelings in the building.
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: And two, how does an up and coming CEO head
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: coach prevent this type of migration in the future. You can't.
- 1:45:32Speaker 8: You hope you have enough success that your coaches.
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: That's a problem, you know. You got to have that pipeline.
- 1:45:37Speaker 3: You know, But then you'll pay and promote your coaches.
- 1:45:40Speaker 3: Don't give you a de facto defensive coordinator the offensive
- 1:45:43Speaker 3: coordinator job.
- 1:45:44Speaker 7: Yeah, give it to Nick Tayley.
- 1:45:47Speaker 3: And they'll stay.
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: Let's see. Justin writes in This might seem small and
- 1:45:53Speaker 2: doesn't necessarily have to do with being a good coach,
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: but the fact that Rabel actually asked Deuce and Evan
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: about themselves in the interview yesterday shows you what kind
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: of guy he is. Most people in his shoes are
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: so self centered they wouldn't even consider taking the spotlight
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: off themselves for even a second, no offense to draw it, which,
- 1:46:10Speaker 2: by the way, can we please stop dancing on his grave?
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: But I'm stoked for Rabel as the head coach. Also,
- 1:46:16Speaker 2: Evan is the man, But I think his take that
- 1:46:19Speaker 2: Rabel has a ten wins ceiling is beyond silly. See
- 1:46:23Speaker 2: mcderbott and mc dermott and Sirianni, just to name two
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: examples where they're not as good as Rabel and still
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: get over ten wins regularly. P you and Catch twenty
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: two of my favorite shills by far, I keep up
- 1:46:34Speaker 2: the good work. When did you say his ceiling was
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: ten one? Yeah?
- 1:46:37Speaker 5: You know, I just thought when we were going through
- 1:46:39Speaker 5: this whole thing last week on Catch twenty two with
- 1:46:41Speaker 5: Ben Johnson versus variable, I think Rabel was the safe pick.
- 1:46:44Speaker 5: I do. I think he and I worry a little
- 1:46:46Speaker 5: bit about the ceiling because in Tennessee you had the
- 1:46:49Speaker 5: twelve win season, he had the trip to the AFC
- 1:46:51Speaker 5: Championship of I don't want to just be an AFC
- 1:46:53Speaker 5: championship games. You want to win championships, right, and I
- 1:46:56Speaker 5: worry about that aspect of it. I think the examples
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: that he gave are fine examples. But if you tell
- 1:47:03Speaker 5: me that Drake May is going to be Josh Allen.
- 1:47:05Speaker 3: I don't know how they're find example. Who's making the
- 1:47:08Speaker 3: determination that Mike Rabel's a better coach than Sean McDermott.
- 1:47:12Speaker 5: Or that Jeohn McDermott's done anything Dermott what have they.
- 1:47:15Speaker 3: Wont But Jeff just he's one more than Mike Rabel.
- 1:47:19Speaker 5: Has he Yeah, I mean in terms of like regular season, sure,
- 1:47:22Speaker 5: but he hasn't gotten any further in the playoffs, no
- 1:47:25Speaker 5: championship and the Titans, right, Yeah.
- 1:47:28Speaker 3: But he's been more consistent. Sure, he's never had a
- 1:47:31Speaker 3: three and fourteen team.
- 1:47:33Speaker 7: Yeah, no doubt, Like why we just.
- 1:47:36Speaker 3: Absolutely he's had He's had some good players. But like
- 1:47:39Speaker 3: I just would push back on like, well he's better
- 1:47:43Speaker 3: with these two guys right off off the top that
- 1:47:45Speaker 3: won more games, but they have better teams.
- 1:47:47Speaker 7: The Eagles are loaded, right right?
- 1:47:50Speaker 5: That was that was my.
- 1:47:51Speaker 3: Eagles are absolutely loaded. Of course they won more games
- 1:47:53Speaker 3: than you know, Like, I don't know what Mike Rabel
- 1:47:55Speaker 3: would do with the Eagles, but I know Nick's won
- 1:47:58Speaker 3: fourteen games with them.
- 1:48:00Speaker 5: Well, I think Nick, but he might I don't.
- 1:48:03Speaker 3: I don't know, But I don't.
- 1:48:04Speaker 5: Think mcdermot's thinks because I think McDermott is coach mc
- 1:48:09Speaker 5: he he pulls his weight on the defensive side of
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: the ball, right, like he's an actually good defensive.
- 1:48:14Speaker 3: It's funny because I think that the defense is going
- 1:48:16Speaker 3: to end up.
- 1:48:17Speaker 5: Yeah, but they have that ability on defense like Bill
- 1:48:20Speaker 5: used to that they can plug and play, they can
- 1:48:22Speaker 5: move on from guys and their defense is still.
- 1:48:24Speaker 3: A big linebacker is a perfect example of everybody. Everybody
- 1:48:29Speaker 3: was up in arms. I'm I let this guy walk.
- 1:48:31Speaker 5: Yeah injured to here on. He's got the best roster
- 1:48:35Speaker 5: in football. Maybe he's got freaking Fangio running his defense.
- 1:48:40Speaker 3: Like I don't know why, because we know Mike Rabel.
- 1:48:44Speaker 3: He's automatically a better coach than Sean McDermott, who we
- 1:48:48Speaker 3: don't like because he coaches the Bills, right, Right, isn't
- 1:48:51Speaker 3: that right? I mean, I mean you have that smirk, Fred,
- 1:48:54Speaker 3: you can you can fire back.
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: You're ready. I could see it, you know, whenever you
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: mentioned McDermott, I.
- 1:48:59Speaker 3: Think he gets tight. There's no doubt. Like I think
- 1:49:01Speaker 3: the ra thing is absolutely appropriate for him. But he's
- 1:49:04Speaker 3: a pretty good coach. He's a pretty good coach, and
- 1:49:07Speaker 3: if he ends up losing a job, it's going to
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: be because he didn't win a super Bowl, not because
- 1:49:11Speaker 3: he couldn't get to the playoffs. Right, That's why Rabel
- 1:49:14Speaker 3: lost his job because he couldn't get his team to
- 1:49:17Speaker 3: the playoffs. At the end.
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: Let's go back to the tput line. Todd's in North Carolina.
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: What's up Todd?
- 1:49:24Speaker 10: Hey, guys, Uh, it's really great to read the mail
- 1:49:27Speaker 10: bag and see that the Shady Acres thing is taking
- 1:49:30Speaker 10: some of the bite out of Paul. It was really
- 1:49:32Speaker 10: he was really professional and even generous in his answers
- 1:49:35Speaker 10: to some of the people. It's been kind of.
- 1:49:37Speaker 3: Cool to hear.
- 1:49:38Speaker 10: Well, just I'm curious to know which which guy you
- 1:49:43Speaker 10: think would best suit for OC. I tried to read
- 1:49:47Speaker 10: through all of the names that haven't put down, and
- 1:49:50Speaker 10: the only two that stood out to me were A
- 1:49:52Speaker 10: v P. Well three a v P. Josh McCown but
- 1:49:55Speaker 10: he's like and Reese. But you guys said Reese was taken.
- 1:49:58Speaker 10: So I'd like to hear two from each of you
- 1:50:00Speaker 10: about which guys you would want to come in here
- 1:50:03Speaker 10: and to work with.
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: Drake may like that, all right, thanks, I mean I'll
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: take obviously, Josh is on my list. Trying to remember
- 1:50:16Speaker 2: your list.
- 1:50:16Speaker 8: Josh McCown, and I don't know if he pops up
- 1:50:19Speaker 8: to the to that Tommy Reese spot right now for me,
- 1:50:21Speaker 8: But yeah.
- 1:50:23Speaker 5: Now that Reese is off the board, the two Josh
- 1:50:25Speaker 5: McDaniels and Siltan McCown what.
- 1:50:27Speaker 2: I want to talk about. We were talking about off
- 1:50:29Speaker 2: air a little bit. Is there a chance that despite
- 1:50:33Speaker 2: all the accolades that Ben Johnson is getting as an OC,
- 1:50:36Speaker 2: that he doesn't interview well and doesn't get a head
- 1:50:39Speaker 2: coaching job.
- 1:50:41Speaker 3: No, no, no, he turned down the head coaching job
- 1:50:44Speaker 3: last year Washington.
- 1:50:47Speaker 2: That's right, they wanted him. You're right, you're right. Yeah,
- 1:50:50Speaker 2: Schefter said, I've just heard all this stuff about him
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: being bizarre and kind of a very an introvert and
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: all that stuff. Have you heard that about Ben Johnson?
- 1:50:59Speaker 3: No other than the guy who called in and ripped him.
- 1:51:02Speaker 2: No, no, no, that's.
- 1:51:03Speaker 3: The only thing I've ever heard about him is he's
- 1:51:05Speaker 3: really demanding on his place, This tough on the players.
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: This is recently. I heard this.
- 1:51:10Speaker 3: I didn't say, you're right. I said, no, I haven't
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: heard it.
- 1:51:12Speaker 7: I didn't hear I've never heard bizarre necessarily.
- 1:51:14Speaker 5: I've just he's he's a film junkie, like he's going
- 1:51:18Speaker 5: to be the he's a mastermind, like he's not going
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: to be the raw, raw guy at the front of
- 1:51:23Speaker 5: the room that's getting everybody jacked up. He's gonna get
- 1:51:26Speaker 5: you confident because you're going to be so well prepared,
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: you know going into games that you're just gonna it's
- 1:51:31Speaker 5: it's all, you know, a little bit more like Bill's
- 1:51:34Speaker 5: side of the street than you know, like a RaRo McVeigh.
- 1:51:37Speaker 8: Like I think that's to Fred's point. It's like McVeigh
- 1:51:39Speaker 8: has both. McVeigh has the tight pants, but he's also
- 1:51:42Speaker 8: real personable and I think might.
- 1:51:44Speaker 5: Be the best coach in the league besides Andy Reid.
- 1:51:46Speaker 5: I mean that guy, he's a complete package. Like he's
- 1:51:49Speaker 5: got that ability to motivate, and he's one of the
- 1:51:51Speaker 5: best offensive minds.
- 1:51:52Speaker 2: In football, calls plays and when he on.
- 1:51:54Speaker 7: This fantastic back and forth, fantastic.
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: His only mistake was you need those stretch.
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: That was moving all the time he pulled me.
- 1:52:05Speaker 8: I just wanted, you know, before we playing the Super Bowl, Man,
- 1:52:07Speaker 8: you're awesome, and.
- 1:52:09Speaker 5: I would literally do that. Like, I think that guy
- 1:52:11Speaker 5: is an unbelievably good coach, Like just the entire package.
- 1:52:15Speaker 5: That's why I want off his staff, like Nick Keley,
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: who's the quarterbacks.
- 1:52:20Speaker 2: But don't don't fall into the same trap that people
- 1:52:23Speaker 2: did with the Pagos. I want somebody off Bill's staff
- 1:52:25Speaker 2: and they don't do well.
- 1:52:27Speaker 3: I think the guy replicate, I'm not looking for a
- 1:52:30Speaker 3: head coach a little want I want a guy doing
- 1:52:33Speaker 3: what he's doing now. I want him doing it here.
- 1:52:36Speaker 5: Nick Keyley, Nick Kelly, Okay, So Nick Caley's gotten a
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: little bit of love in in uh in Ramsland because
- 1:52:42Speaker 5: he's actually McVeigh has has taken some of the Patriots
- 1:52:47Speaker 5: stuff this year with Kaylee and put some of that
- 1:52:50Speaker 5: in their passing game because Kaylee's now the pass game coordinator.
- 1:52:53Speaker 7: As well as the Titans coach.
- 1:52:54Speaker 5: So they they actually run the Patriots NASCAR package now
- 1:52:58Speaker 5: they're up tempo, hurry up and uh. And that was
- 1:53:01Speaker 5: all Kaylee, like, you know, saying this is how we
- 1:53:04Speaker 5: did it in New England and mcvagh putting that stuff in.
- 1:53:07Speaker 5: So he's like the the blend of the new and
- 1:53:09Speaker 5: the old. Right.
- 1:53:10Speaker 3: Just so you know, I did the mail bag before
- 1:53:14Speaker 3: Rabel came in here yesterday, So I had the mail
- 1:53:18Speaker 3: bag already done before Rabel came in and was joking
- 1:53:22Speaker 3: around with us. It wasn't you know response.
- 1:53:26Speaker 2: It's it's it's hard to argue with that McVeigh. Isn't
- 1:53:30Speaker 2: the top if not, you know, he's he's up there.
- 1:53:33Speaker 3: He's really good. So I was saying, like like there
- 1:53:36Speaker 3: was a lot of pushback on him because of you know,
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: less sneeds, you know, f them picks. We don't need
- 1:53:43Speaker 3: this and oh that's I mean, if you want to
- 1:53:46Speaker 3: buy a championship, you can, you can, you can win
- 1:53:49Speaker 3: one doing it that way, but you know you'll have
- 1:53:52Speaker 3: fun being good one year and then going back to
- 1:53:54Speaker 3: the bottom, which people in this building have said. By
- 1:53:57Speaker 3: the way, he now is eight and four as a
- 1:54:01Speaker 3: play in the playoffs, which means that he's been in
- 1:54:03Speaker 3: the playoffs five times. That's a lot of like one
- 1:54:07Speaker 3: and done's like, that's you know what I mean, that's
- 1:54:09Speaker 3: a lot of like one. You know, they have fun
- 1:54:11Speaker 3: winning your one title. That's five different times they've been
- 1:54:14Speaker 3: in the playoffs. They've cycled it through. They have the
- 1:54:17Speaker 3: youngest defense in football right now. They played an unbelievable
- 1:54:21Speaker 3: game last night. I know some of that had to
- 1:54:23Speaker 3: do with Sam Darnold. I'm not they should they've had
- 1:54:25Speaker 3: nine cells. He was holding the ball forever. Yeah, a
- 1:54:28Speaker 3: lot of that was on Sam Donald last night. But
- 1:54:31Speaker 3: they're a pretty good program. Yeah, really, they're pretty good,
- 1:54:34Speaker 3: pretty good program, and it's not just gonna go away.
- 1:54:37Speaker 5: Like, I mean, what's going on in LA right now
- 1:54:39Speaker 5: is obviously awful. And they had this whole situation where
- 1:54:42Speaker 5: like their families are coming with them, their dogs and
- 1:54:45Speaker 5: their cats are coming with them, and like he held
- 1:54:48Speaker 5: the entire thing together and they absolutely destroyed the Vikings.
- 1:54:51Speaker 3: They played the last game of the year against Seattle
- 1:54:54Speaker 3: with all backups and came within like five yards of winning,
- 1:54:59Speaker 3: like all backups. He completely didn't care. This is the
- 1:55:02Speaker 3: other thing that I think is kind of impressive. He
- 1:55:04Speaker 3: found there to be no difference between going to Tampa
- 1:55:08Speaker 3: and I mean hosting not hosting Tampa, hosting probably Washington,
- 1:55:14Speaker 3: or hosting fourteen win Minnesota. He found no difference there was, right, Yeah,
- 1:55:19Speaker 3: Like that's would you that's confidence?
- 1:55:21Speaker 7: Would you think him one?
- 1:55:22Speaker 8: Would you think of that?
- 1:55:24Speaker 2: Of that?
- 1:55:24Speaker 8: I guess it was an incomplete pass from Stafford.
- 1:55:26Speaker 7: That was terrible.
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: It's a terrible rule.
- 1:55:29Speaker 3: It's a terrible rule.
- 1:55:30Speaker 8: It's like it seemed like he was intentionally trying to
- 1:55:32Speaker 8: ground the ball instead of trying to complete a pass.
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: To me, well, I hate intentional grounding.
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: Well, is that the one that was returned and called that? Yeah,
- 1:55:39Speaker 2: that was he was flipping it out of his head
- 1:55:41Speaker 2: down he did. Yeah, he did an incomplete pass.
- 1:55:44Speaker 3: But I hate it. I hate it, like that should
- 1:55:47Speaker 3: not be so.
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: But Nakua was actually running around in that area right right.
- 1:55:53Speaker 8: But but but but he was trying to complete a
- 1:55:55Speaker 8: pass to him barely.
- 1:55:57Speaker 3: So you're saying it should have been a penalty.
- 1:55:58Speaker 2: I think it should. I mean, I don't know if
- 1:56:00Speaker 2: you're going to call it.
- 1:56:00Speaker 3: I think it should be a fumble, and I know
- 1:56:02Speaker 3: it's not. I know it's not. But I don't think
- 1:56:05Speaker 3: you should be able to do that.
- 1:56:06Speaker 8: No, No, you should be able to do it, right,
- 1:56:08Speaker 8: that's what I have to do it in the vicinity
- 1:56:10Speaker 8: of a player.
- 1:56:11Speaker 3: No, but you're just saying it will be a penalty.
- 1:56:14Speaker 3: I don't think you should be like this far.
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: It should be a penalty. I'm saying it was an
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: incomplete pass.
- 1:56:19Speaker 3: I know what they called. I know, I know what
- 1:56:21Speaker 3: the ruling is, I know what the rules are. Like,
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: can we not disagree with some of the rules. I
- 1:56:24Speaker 3: don't think you should be able to do that as
- 1:56:26Speaker 3: a pass. That's not a pass.
- 1:56:27Speaker 5: It wasn't a pass.
- 1:56:29Speaker 3: I know understand everyone understands what I'm talking about.
- 1:56:34Speaker 5: I mean, that's not why the Vikings lost, like.
- 1:56:36Speaker 3: God, but it could have changed the game, tied it up.
- 1:56:40Speaker 3: I don't think the Vikings got screwed. Don't don't misunderstand this.
- 1:56:43Speaker 3: There's a problem with the rule. I don't think that
- 1:56:46Speaker 3: quarterbacks should be allowed to do that and have that
- 1:56:49Speaker 3: be considered a pass. Okay, that's all all right, but
- 1:56:55Speaker 3: you are but you are allowed to do it, and
- 1:56:56Speaker 3: it clearly was a pass. I agree with you.
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: Eldred's in North Carolina. What's up, Eldred?
- 1:57:01Speaker 15: Hey doing today?
- 1:57:03Speaker 2: Good?
- 1:57:04Speaker 7: How are you feeling?
- 1:57:05Speaker 15: Eldred disappointed?
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: I wanted up, wanted Johns from the well from.
- 1:57:11Speaker 15: The report after that video chat. He thought he would
- 1:57:15Speaker 15: it would be the Patriots coach, but I know they
- 1:57:17Speaker 15: won't grabel because of premiarity, and I'm just you know,
- 1:57:21Speaker 15: I know it's a pretty good coach. Well, I agree
- 1:57:24Speaker 15: with it in twelve season games, whatever, playoffs, but he
- 1:57:30Speaker 15: will brain discipline. But my question is, if y'all can
- 1:57:34Speaker 15: answer for me real quick, how you think his guy
- 1:57:37Speaker 15: just got released from the Giant of Ryan Coden picked
- 1:57:41Speaker 15: John office under Elliott Wolf as you know in the
- 1:57:45Speaker 15: GM department. I take that off the air.
- 1:57:48Speaker 3: What's your question, though, he's he's going to be the
- 1:57:52Speaker 3: number two guy by all appearances, at least initially in
- 1:57:56Speaker 3: the short term. What happens after the draft? I have
- 1:57:58Speaker 3: no idea, but he's a guy that that Rabel trusts
- 1:58:01Speaker 3: and likes.
- 1:58:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I know it. We're almost out of time. But
- 1:58:04Speaker 5: Reese was on with Zoe and Beatle I think right
- 1:58:08Speaker 5: my show, Yeah, this afternoon and said that his understanding,
- 1:58:11Speaker 5: this is Reese's reporting, is that Mike Rabel is going
- 1:58:14Speaker 5: to have final personnel say right.
- 1:58:16Speaker 2: So it's exactly he's running the personnel by proxy. So
- 1:58:22Speaker 2: they're gonna work together Cowden and Wolf, and when they
- 1:58:25Speaker 2: have a disagreement, Rabel's going to have the final say yeah,
- 1:58:28Speaker 2: they'll come to him with issues.
- 1:58:30Speaker 3: That's the way I lie. I think Phil Perry said
- 1:58:32Speaker 3: the same thing this morning. That's what a lot of
- 1:58:35Speaker 3: people seem to think it's going.
- 1:58:37Speaker 2: Yep, all right, well listen, the way it's going here
