- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Happy to be here.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: How are you doing today?
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: I'm doing good.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: It's a rainy cold day in LA, which Rainy.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Every time it rains, I'm like, oh right, rain, rain, rain, rain.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, water from the sky.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: But it's nice.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: You must miss that as well, because you're like, you it you come from the East Coast as well, don't you?
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: So like Yes.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: It's used to rain, used to snow, used to be.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: And it's now one thing I noticed here is uh like you can just I have a little yard and you can just like leave stuff outside and nothing happens to it.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: I mean unless it gets stolen.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: But like just you see people with just like appliances in their yard or just couches outside that don't nothing happens to them because it never rains here.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Um, but I still get like nervous about it.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: And um I had a I had a like handmade Black Lives Matter sign that I had like had at a at one of the protests, and then I just like put it out on my like gate.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: And it was just made of cardboard and marker, not even cardboard, just like thick paper.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: And it was up for months because it never rained, nothing happened, like it just faded in the sun, and I like finally took it down.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Felt weird taking it down, but um, but it just yeah, never rained.
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: And how is everything at the moment, other than that?
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: Like, is it everything other I know LA is kind of are you in a you're still in kind of a lockdown, aren't you?
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, LA, I don't know if it's still true, but like as of like at least a week ago, we were like the worst place on earth in terms of COVID.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Um but the last like couple days, numbers have been going down a little bit, which it doesn't say much because the numbers are so ridiculous.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: But we are on not as strict of a lockdown as I think we should be.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: Um, like malls are still open, which is so freaking stupid.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: Um but uh but yeah, I I don't know, we're getting there, I guess.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: How about you guys?
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: Well, I just read today that we are the number one for death rate in the world right now.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: Congrats.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: Uh we're on tier four, which is a lockdown without calling it a lockdown.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: And so I've been I haven't left home in uh I don't know how long.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: Like I'll go on a walk or something, but you know, I'm not doing anything.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: So it's yeah, it's sad.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: Yes, it's a it's it's a crazy weird time.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: I'm sure we could all agree on that.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: Which is what uh like this podcast came out of like being in a lockdown.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: It was just like I I need to do something productive.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: Oh really?
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: You you consider this productive?
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: It's doing something creative.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: Getting to talk people getting getting to talk to people, which I'm not otherwise, I'm not talking to anyone.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I totally hear you.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: But yeah, are you still um you're you're writing for The Simpsons at the moment, aren't you?
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: Nice.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: So is that still all still going on?
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: Is that like everyone's still like, but I guess like through uh video meetings and everything?
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we were actually probably the very first show to go virtual.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: Um it was like we, you know, we'd heard rumblings of like I mean, the same as everyone.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Like you hear little things about the virus and you don't know how seriously to take it.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: And then I think it was like early March or late February or something.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: And um we, you know, our executive producers just made the decision, you know what, for two weeks we're gonna go virtual.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: There's a thing called Zoom.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: And it was like of course, all the writers were like, What?
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: This is like let we'll just wash our hands.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: Like, why did this is a thing?
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: And then um, so you know, we left that Friday knowing like okay, the next two weeks are gonna be virtual.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: And I think it was like that weekend that Tom Hanks got it, and like everyone was like, This is serious.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: Um, so then other shows like just started following suit like the next the next week.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: So people kept reaching out to us, like, how does it work?
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: How does it feel?
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: Like, how did you do a table read?
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: Like all that stuff.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Um, and so you know, like anything, it just became normal really quickly.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: And and and animation is you know, we're lucky because we can we don't have to get sets and stuff like that.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's a little bit of a an easier position to be in for animation.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, definitely I can see that.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, hopefully things are sorted soon and we can go back to who knows what.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: I know it and it's a strange thing.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: I don't know if it'll go back, but because all like you know, it's hard, at least for me personally.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm trying to come up with ideas, and all my ideas are about what's going on right now.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: And I know a lot most shows I would venture to guess, most shows are pretending this isn't happening.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: And at least we are.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Um, and so it's just like strange to be writing for a world where this isn't on the horizon and this didn't already happen and we're not in the thick of it.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: So um Yeah, that's that's kind of crazy.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: Like it's so strange that must be, especially in animation, because it's like you kind of have to avoid it there, don't you?
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: You can't really write about it and that because it's such a uh it's a world where you know it's it's the same year constantly as well.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: So there's a lot of limitations, but also opportunities in in this kind of timeline.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: But you know, when it was starting, uh and lockdown was starting, and then people realizing how serious and deadly it was, even because our timeline is like, you know, you you write a show, have the table read, and then it doesn't come out to like a year later.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we were really avoiding and still are like, yeah, but especially then avoiding putting jokes in because I remember like my boss saying, like, we don't know how bad this is gonna get.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Like when this comes out, like half the population could be dead.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: So like we don't want to be making jokes of it now, even if we even if at the time we all were like this will be gone in two months or whatever.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Um, so it's like you have to take a long view on that kind of thing.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's so weird.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's weird, it's not weird.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: I know that like um we've been trying to I've been I'm in like a a group where we try and write sketches together and everything at the moment.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: We're like, how can we write sketches that we can make at home as well over Zoom?
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like because that's all we can do at the moment.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: So it's just literally just coming up, we're trying to come up with ideas like that.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: And it's it's kind of limiting at the same time.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Kind of.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: It's kind of it's also like you know, that's an exercise.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: It's a yeah, it's an exercise, but at the same time, like you know, a year into it where you're like, oh, I don't want to write about this anymore.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: I'm exercised, I promise.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, I yep, yep, nothing is will ever be the same, that's for sure.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: I was just thinking about how when I was, you know, when I met you in when I was in London and we did that sketch workshop, and I just went to London for a week or 10 days, and I just walked around.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: I just walked everywhere, and I like just went into really crowded bars, like just all this stuff that I just you know, I was like, I never I don't know when England will ever be open to anybody ever again.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, I don't know.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: Um how long ago was that now?
- 8:01SPEAKER_02: Because I was trying to work it out and I was like, was it a it must have been like two years ago at this time?
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: It was the May, it wasn't last May, it was the May before that.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: Okay, so yeah, so it's about year and a half.
- 8:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: Okay, that makes sense.
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: So yeah, but you you seemed like you had a good time on that trip.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: I had a really I had a really great time.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: Um, but today you've come on to talk about the movie Bad Boys 2.
- 8:29SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 8:29SPEAKER_02: Which is what what I have to ask, what made you pick this movie in particular?
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: Uh Hot Fuzz.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: Uh oh, interesting.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: It's it's funny.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I like like you, the way that you say Bad Boys 2 is the way that they say it in Hot Fuzz, which is like one of maybe my fun my favorite movie.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Um I guess I had seen it when it came out, but then like when I saw Hot Fuzz and then became obsessed with Hot Fuzz, it's just like Bad Boys 2, yeah, I've seen Bad Boys 2.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: And then um just kind of was like went back and watched Bad Boys 2, and then watch Hot Fuzz, and then we'll watch Bad Boys 2, watch Hot Fuzz.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: So Oh, you've seen it a lot then more than I probably should have.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: Um, but uh but but yeah, it's just kind of I mean we'll get into all of it, but um well do you remember do you remember the first time you saw it then?
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: You said you must have seen it when it came out.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: Do you remember your your reaction to it the first time?
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: How much how long after Bad Boys 1?
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: There's a huge gap.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Like how long?
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: There's an eight-year gap.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: Wow, okay.
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: Because Bad Boys 1 is 95 and Bad Boys 2 is 2003.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah, then I definitely don't remember when I saw Bad Boys 2, but I saw maybe I saw the movie theaters, yeah.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: I I my memory of Bad Boys 2 was I saw it when I when it well I tried to see it when it came out, so I was 14 and we have like the the rating system here which is 15 and 18 and 12.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: So like I it was a fifth it was rated fifteen.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: And so me and my friends were all fourteen.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: We tried to s like go in to see it and we were turned away.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: And so we ended up watching it illegally at home.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: Um did you just go see a different movie instead?
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: I don't remember.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: I we must have done.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: We must have gone see something else.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, uh but but yeah, so we got turned away, I had to watch it at home, and then like I don't think I saw it again until like a few years later, but I don't I remember loving it at the time, and then when I went re-watched it like for this, yeah, I had a completely different view of it.
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes, it's a very different movie in this day and age.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, absolutely.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: Um, I was like taking notes because I knew we were gonna be talking about it, and I realized like, wait, I'm supposed to be talking about how like this movie's good, and I was just taking all these notes on like I can't believe like this is bad.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: They shouldn't be doing this as bad.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Um, but all in all, I think like the audacity of this movie is so it should be called Bad Boys 2, the Audacity, because it's just like such an audacious, uh like big swing.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: Have you seen the third one yet?
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: I haven't actually embarrassed.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: The third one is actually decent.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: That's what I heard.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: And I wonder if that's because it didn't have Michael Bay behind it.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: Not at all.
- 11:25SPEAKER_02: I don't I think he might have produced it, but he he didn't write it and he didn't direct it.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: So I think he just got a credit on it.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: Um but it had like these two two directors who were like not known at all.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: I don't know how they got the movie.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: And then yeah, it's a very different movie to like the other two.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: I am like I near my house, like whenever Bad Boys 2 was come or three was coming out, they there was a billboard and like uh that was up, not near my house, but like to get to this, like one to one main street.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Um I kind of have to go up a hill.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: And it's a very slow hill, you don't even realize like at one point you're like going up a hill.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: But then like it just I was driving and it just kind of like arose, like it was like a rising sunrise, like this bad boys for life.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: And I had net I didn't even hear that they were making a bad boys for life.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: And it was just like it was such I was so excited to say, like, oh my god, bad boys are back, and um, then I never saw it.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: Oh well, the rumor was that they were gonna be making three and four back to back, and then that just never happened.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: So I don't know what oh, interesting.
- 12:37SPEAKER_02: They were just gonna be yeah, and I don't know if that was because like this got expensive or it was because it was like they got too tired because they're not, you know, they're in their like 50s now, basically.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: I mean when I was watching it, I was thinking like, you know, Martin Lawrence is like at like a 10 in every scene, yeah, energy-wise.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: And I just was like, how it must have been so exhausting to do take after take after take just be at this level every every scene.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's just how who he is.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: That that from what I've seen, that's who he is.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I did used to watch Martin back in the day, and he was like, yeah.
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: That's one thing I've never like got into because it never it didn't air here, or at least I didn't when I was a child it never aired.
- 13:21SPEAKER_02: Um so like it I don't know.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: I know the fresh prints so well inside out.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it still shows to this day.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: But Martin was never a thing here, really.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, that's where have you ever heard anyone say damn Gina?
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know I know all the like little catchphrases and everything, but I've never seen it.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: And like um, I know like the memes from it and stuff like that, where you've got the big puffy face.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, Martin was never a thing.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: And then um, but I did watch a lot of like Deaf Comedy Jam growing up, really.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: So like I know him, yeah.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: And like Blue Streak, Big Mama's House were all big when I was a kid.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: So, you know, like growing up, I was very aware of Martin Lawrence.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: It's so strange.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: I never got into a show.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: He's a movie star.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: It's a good I mean, he I remember watching it and just like laughing so hard.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: And um Gina, uh his girlfriend, is his girlfriend or his wife?
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: I think it's his girlfriend.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: And then maybe they get married over the course of it.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: Um, she's so so good, such a good actor.
- 14:22SPEAKER_02: Um she's the one that went on to uh being my wife and kids, isn't she?
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes, yeah, she's very good.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: Um and I'm blanking on her name.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: But then the uh woman who played her friend in it, Pam, like they were just so funny together.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: But anyway.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: Um yeah.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, so I th I was thinking like Martin Lawrence was slightly bigger at this uh during the first one, wasn't he?
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: Like before it all kind of happened, I think he was the biggest star.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, then then Will Smith.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: Then Will Smith.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: Uh I bet yeah.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: Because I think this is prior to, I think this was like his first big movie.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: Will Smith's first the Bad Boys the Original.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: I think he had like a few movies, but this this was the big one.
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: Interesting.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: Um and then he had Independence Day, and then suddenly he was right.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I love Independence Day.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Um wait, how do I I'm like going crazy?
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I need to look up um Tisha Campbell.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Tisha Campbell, yes.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Her friend um oh gosh, Titina Arnold?
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: I don't know how to say her name.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Tichina Arnold.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: Titina Arnold.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: They were so funny together.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: I was like, give them their own show.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: Um anyway.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, so so Martin Lawrence, you're saying was like a bigger movie star than Will Smith.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Well, I think he was more well known.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: Okay, but Will Smith had the Fresh Prince.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: But it wasn't like I guess Martin Lawrence had Martin plus his stand-up, plus uh, I don't know, like a whole lot of other he'd been he kind of come slightly earlier.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: Gotcha.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: I think, I think.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: I mean Will Smith had his music too, so like he Oh yeah.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: Maybe I'm really strong.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: I I always forget he's a musician.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: When's the last time he put out an album?
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: Um, I believe it was around the time of Hitch.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: I love Hitch.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: Hitch is great.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: It was hitch.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: Wait, is Hitchchitch?
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: Hitch is like a guilty pleasure of mine.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: No, because it's too high.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: Is it high?
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Okay, good.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: No, there are some moments that it's low, but it's too high.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Like the moment where he slips a pen into Kevin James' pocket.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Like, do you remember that?
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: He like is hiding behind the door.
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: I just remember that as like laughing really hard at that.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: Um I love Will Smith.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Will Smith is like he's great.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: He's great, and he's from Philly, and that's exciting for us.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:47SPEAKER_02: He's like your national traitor.
- 16:49SPEAKER_02: He kind of is.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: Him and uh Sylvester Stallone.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: Well, Sylvester Stallone isn't from Philly, no, but he just made a movie there.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: I should say.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: Um it's like Will Smith and Benjamin Franklin, and that might be it.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: And I mean, to be honest, though, Benjamin Franklin's originally from Boston, so I don't know about that.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: Uh so yeah, just oh well, okay, and me.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: I think also me.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: I'm big.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: And the roots.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: And the roots, yes.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: Oh god, yeah.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: Um but uh yeah, let's talk about this movie itself then.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: So it's a sequel, obviously, to uh Bad Boys, which is a movie about two kind of they're not rogue cops, but they're not they kind of are?
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: They're not necessarily rogue cops, but they're um what's the word?
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I they're loose canons.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: They're two loose cannons.
- 17:46SPEAKER_02: That's the term.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: And uh this so this is the sequel where it's you know like almost a decade later, they're kind of aging out of it now, and Martin Lawrence is getting like to that point where he's like getting ready to be done with it, which is ironic for the later film, but uh and so there's this whole uh thing going on of um Will Smith's character is now secretly dating Martin Lawrence's sister, uh who is also a an undercover cop, um brought in to bring down uh this like uh this whole system of like this ecstasy drug ring going on.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: Um and Martin Lawrence doesn't know about the two of them dating, so there's the whole thing there, and then they are dating because uh then they're then Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are kind of like trying to bring down the ecstasy ring as part of their own thing going on as well.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: So it's kind of that complicated thing, and it's a whole lot of action.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: It's just a har it's just a lot of action.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: It's 99% action.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: And it's two and a half hours long to start with.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: I am glad you said that because I I uh was watching it last night and I just thought like but I was I was doing like I was using my phone, my um my remote, my Apple remote, my phone as my remote, and just like fast-forwarding 10 seconds like through every car chase was 10 seconds, 10 seconds, seconds, seconds.
- 19:14SPEAKER_02: I'm glad you did that because I also fast-forwarded through the car chases, like the 10 seconds skipped.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Yes, I I wonder how much time I actually ended up taking out, but it was like any gun battle or um there's so many automatic weapons in this.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: Like there's like not just like handguns, but like full-on, I don't know, I call every automatic weapon a machine gun, but just like so much um gunfire in this movie.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: It's kind of ridiculous, like the the amount of like different weapons they have in this as well.
- 19:41SPEAKER_02: There's like rocket launchers as well, quite regularly.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, yeah.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: Just like your run-of-the-mill police officer rocket launcher.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: Um mines there's uh well the mines are in on the border, Cuba, right?
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: Where do they go?
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: They go to Cuba.
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: Well, they're on they're in Cuba on the border between Cuba and the US.
- 20:05SPEAKER_02: Well um wait, how?
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: Because Cuba's an island.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: Is it like I think it's just like I don't know.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, is it a US like it could be a US base?
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Base, yeah, that's a word.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: It must be a base because it like they literally try and drive into it and he says you're still in Cuba.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Um But that yeah, that's like right at the end of the movie.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: Uh it could have been its own uh whatever.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: It could have been its own It's could have been his own movie, just like a bunch of cops have to invade Cuba, but instead it's like that that whole sequence is like fine for a movie.
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: Like they could have had that and that that could have been around it, yeah.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, totally.
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: Literally everything in Cuba.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: It's just so much, there's so many things within this that are just like, okay, you could cut that, you could cut that.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: Or you know Michael Bay has like so much excess that he doesn't he does not know when to stop.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but it worked for him for so long.
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: I mean, still like he's made some I will say he's made some movies that I do like.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Like what?
- 21:09SPEAKER_02: But okay.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: Um there are oh wait.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: I'm blanking on all of them now.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: Let me look him up.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: Pearl Harbor, Armageddon, Transformers.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: I like Armageddon.
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: Uh Armageddon's not bad.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: Um The Oh, The Rock.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: The Rock is The Rock is perfect.
- 21:33SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: And he made another one I feel like I liked.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: Or maybe I'm just I liked bad boys.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: So yeah, well the yeah.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: Um maybe he started his career.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: Well, and then he's just gone.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: That's when he that's when he took a turn when he like was allowed to make too much.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: Man, uh the rock is so good.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: I'm thinking about the rock.
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: It's so fun, yeah.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: Um, so right, so we're on Where we're not.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: But yeah, this this movie itself is just yeah, it's two and a half hours long and it's got a um 23% on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: And can you get but can you guess the audience score?
- 22:14SPEAKER_02: See if you can guess what the audience score is, like a rough Is it a percentage too?
- 22:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: 95.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: No, it's 78, which is very high.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: Is that high?
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: I don't know that much about how Rotten Tomatoes does.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, it's like it's like a crowd pleaser.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: But I guess I didn't I didn't even look up like why people what was the complaint?
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: The plot didn't make sense, or like um the first move the first review I'm looking at says it's an unpleasant mean movie.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: It that's true.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: It's it's so violent for no reason.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: That seems to be what the consensus is.
- 22:57SPEAKER_02: It's so violent for no reason.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: It's so violent.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: Like, yes, and there's it's especially now like watching it um in it's hard to watch now.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like when people are reevaluating w what it means to make you know TV and movies about cops.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: That was the one thing I wanted to discuss with you actually.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was watching it just like cringing.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: And I mean, it starts with you know, it's like I was noticing this just like set piece after set piece after set piece, you know, like let's all set pieces.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: Let's do this boat thing, let's do this KKK thing, let's do like, you know, him have him OD on ecstasy, and just like a string of those completely to me carried by Martin Lawrence and Will Smith.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: And then Absolutely, Gabrielle Union is just like such a bad, like she's just so in charge.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: I was like, she's just completely in control of what she's doing, it seems to me.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Um I think she rolls, but um she's great.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: I I really like her in everything.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she does.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: I've never yeah.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Um, but when he like in like one of the first scenes when they when they pop out in the KKK thing, yeah, he says, like white power, like blue power.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I wrote it down because I was like, this doesn't no, no, do not say that now.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: Of all the things that do not have a black man saying that now.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: Of all the things it's like, you know, if you're at a white power rally, you're already at a blue power rally.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: Sorry, but yeah.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: It's kind of the same.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: Um, but like of all the things that are like so violent and wrong and don't hold up about the movie, like it's it's that is to me like one of the biggest things.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: It's it's really it's kind of like it's and it's so it's at the very beginning of the movie as well, so it immediately taints the movie.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: And I feel like um but the shot, but here's the thing though, to me.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: It looks great.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the shot of like Will Smith throwing the robe off.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't think a rally would just have a cross burnt, like just like with his arms out with the guns and the cross behind him is so badass.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: It is it's so it's just kind of uh yeah, I'm mad that I I thought it.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: I was like, yeah, wait, no, no, no, no, no, Christine, no.
- 25:27SPEAKER_02: Um yeah.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: And also like it's it's very weird.
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: So like, okay, let's go through the movie then, because we so we can talk about uh then so it open basically it opens with the ecstasy uh lab in Amsterdam and they're shipping all the ecstasy in coffins.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: Uh that's like$150 million worth, they say it's insane, first of all.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: And uh they're shipping it to the Gulf of they're like leaving it on the Gulf of Mexico, they say, which is obviously I guess it's like I'm very bad at geography.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: How close is that to Cuba?
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: Uh it's it's it's very close.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's in the Gulf of Mexico.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: Maybe it is, but it's all like right at like like the tip of Texas is near or where Miami is, is like not too far.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: It's all very close.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: I've also been to both Mexico and Cuba, so I should know.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: Oh, cool.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: I've never even been to Florida, which I'm immensely proud of.
- 26:23unknown: Yeah.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: I've I've been a couple of times and I'm probably not gonna go back.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: No offense, Florida, but some offense.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: Uh but uh so the what the Coast Guard is after them, basically.
- 26:36SPEAKER_02: And then um the Coast Guard is played by I believe it's played by Henry Rollins.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the guy running the operation.
- 26:44SPEAKER_02: The guy running Yeah.
- 26:45SPEAKER_02: And he mentioned something about 9-11.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: I so another thing about this movie, I saw the first 40- I have I will admit, I saw the first 45 minutes two weeks ago when we scheduled this, and then when we had to reschedule, I was like, okay, I'm gonna turn it off and watch the rest when it comes back up.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: I forgot so I'm in looking in my notes and I'm like, uh no worries.
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: So we might I some of the notes aren't gonna make sense to me still.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: So but he does talk about 9-11 and I remember it being like a really awkward thing of like, what why is he bringing up 9-11?
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: Um I don't know.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: Especially because I think he just like mentions it.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: It's like if this came out in 2003, yeah, then this was like filmed in 2002, so it would have been like, Well, we have to bring up 9-11.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, so he's I forgot he's in it.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I watched it last night, which was a hundred years ago.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: Like there's so many weird cameos in this.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: Dan Marino, the football player.
- 27:45SPEAKER_02: Dan Marino, yeah.
- 27:46SPEAKER_02: Michael Bay is in it as well, obviously.
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: Like he has to be in it at some point.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: Um he plays the guy that like gets hijacked, the car gets hijacked from him, like the cheap car, and then it goes to Dan Marino.
- 27:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:57SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, this is then while all this is going on, they're having a KKK rally and um they do the scene what we what you would which you were talking about, which is where Will Smith throws off his robe and like holds his guns out, and then they do the spinning camera around.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: Spinning camera, yeah.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: Which is really uh it's one thing that I'd visually it's it's great.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: It works on me every time.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: Michael Bay, I would admit, is good at visuals, but he cannot do a story.
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: Um and then there's a standoff between all the the the KKK members and the and the two of them, and Michael Shannon is one of the KKK members.
- 28:43SPEAKER_02: And I was like, what is he doing in this?
- 28:45SPEAKER_02: You are too good to be in this.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: Well, maybe that was one, I think that's one of his first like roles.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: It just was so strange to see him in that role, and his hair is kind of long.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: But I did like the like running bit of him going, I have my rights.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, yeah.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: He's very funny in it, but like at the same time, it's just like, oh no, Mike, Michael Shannon, get out of this.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: Do not um, and so there's a shootout between all of them, and um Marcus, who played by um Martin Lawrence, gets hit in the arse by uh Will Smith's character, Mike.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: He gets hit hit in the arse, and so he's got he's like injured immediately, and they fight, they find out there's only two bags of ecstasy they find, so it's just a complete waste of time.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: They spend all this money and power manpower and everything, and it's just like completely for a waste, and so they're all immediately in trouble.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: Um and this is when they Marcus goes to therapy, and this is a running theme of in this movie where they make fun of the fact that he's in therapy, and that's another thing that doesn't hold up this time the fact that a man is going to therapy, right?
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: Yes, there's a lot of like you know, toxic masculinity and gay panic.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of gay panic in this, yeah.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: Like it's it's interesting, it's like he's trying, like he he wants to be better, and he's like uh questioning that stuff, but then he like you know, we'll get to it, but the scene where he's like trying to defend his daughter, like it's just like disgusting.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: It is it really is, yeah.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: That's the only scene I remembered from it though, as well.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: That that uh scene where he's defending his daughter.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: I remember laughing, like I remember it's so funny.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: It's funny to watch them there in that scene and then in the scene where they're like I think they're in like a head shop or something, and they they're like pretending that they're dancing, like, oh, we're working on their dance moves.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: And in both cases, they're like doing like they have a shtick that they're doing together, and like it's just really funny because they're funny people.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: I remember laughing really hard at it, but then looking back now, just like one of the worst things about that scene as well is that it was like mostly improvised.
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: Was it really?
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:04SPEAKER_02: And so he like, and apparently Will Smith, the guy the kid didn't know Will Smith had a gun as well, and it like scared him.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: He's so good, he's great.
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: And in terrifying, he really is terrified.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, he's in the third.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: He's in the third, like they get married or something, which I think is like really I was happy to hear that.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: How did you wait?
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: How did you know that?
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: Because I had watched uh I had watched this, you know, like six months ago or something, maybe because I was planning on seeing Bad Boys 3 or whatever, but for life was coming up.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: So I watched this in order to like get ready, and then I just remember thinking like it would be such a missed opportunity to not like I know even reference Reggie.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: And then my friend told me, like, oh yeah, he's in it.
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's very funny.
- 31:53SPEAKER_02: It's like right at the beginning, it's like a very funny moment.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: That's great, and it's like the only other acting he ever like he's not like an actor, really.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, Reggie's great.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: Um so yeah, Mike Marcus is in therapy, and then it cuts to like Mark uh Mike sleeping with the therapist.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: Um Mike is supposed to be going to therapy and he sleeps with the therapist, so it's like instead of having therapy, he's sleeping with his therapist.
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: Um so it's just immediately like it tries, but it tries to show that Mike's the cool one.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's supposed to be cool.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: It's like looking at it now as like a full adult.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: I'm like, Mike is so damaged.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's so much wrong with Mike.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: Mike needs so much help.
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: And then also Mike is like, what's wrong with police?
- 32:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: Um, so it's it's like a strange, but then it's like it's Will Smith, which buys you so much of likability and cool and suave.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: And I think it feels like anyone else.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and he looks he looks so good at this.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, yeah.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: And um, but like there's a club and everyone is doing X at the club, basically, and a kid OD, like a c a guy ODs in the club, and they like throw him out onto the street to die, and the guy's like, nobody owes the nobody dies in my club.
- 33:21SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 33:21SPEAKER_02: They just leave him out dying on the street.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: And that's the Russian guy that runs the club, right?
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: And like in that is there's this extremely well gratuitous, like long shot in the club, which is just like half-naked women and like um all this dancing and stuff, and then the guy IDs and he's ODs and he's just like like a you know, look rich looking white guy.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: And I was just like thinking, like this whole movie, all of the stuff that's happening is solely to stop drugs or to like at least be good cops and say that they stop drugs and have that score.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: But like the only person you see like negatively affected by it is one like like coked up rich white guy.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and you're supposed to like they don't show like you know, teenagers getting like killed by it.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: It's just like it's bad.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: Even when Martin Lawrence is on it, he seems fine.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: He's having a good time.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: So it's it's just like there's the stakes of like they're just trying to stop the drugs from coming in because they are, because they that's like they're cops, and and there's so much destruction to do it, and so much death, yeah.
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: They cause more death than than is being caused by the ecstasy itself.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: So many people getting shot, and and they exactly, and they like they shouldn't be stopping like bullets from coming in from Cuba, but like the it's just this the thing too, which we'll get to, but just whenever I watch like last weekend I watched um Murder at 1600, which I don't know if it's gonna live.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, it's a Wesley's next movie.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: Okay, so okay, so my boyfriend is very, very smart, very smart man.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: He's never seen any of these like crazy movies, yeah.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: And so I've been introducing them to him.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: And so I I first introduced him to Air Force One, and I like I mean he I watched that's not a bad way into it, though.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: That's like a like nice tame it, but it's just so much action, and I like watched him watch it, and he was like a little kid at Christmas, like really, because it's so much action and weirdness, and then like we're both like kind of agreeing a little bit with the terrorists, like uh about like American, you know, power.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: And uh and then we watched last like whatever it was, however long ago, we watched National Treasure One.
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: Oh wow like the next day we watched the next day we watched National Treasure 2, Murder at 1600, which is Wesley Snipe and Diane Lane trying to solve a murder at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, which is where the White House is.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then um and Passenger 57, uh which is another Wesley Snipes movie, which you need to go watch tonight.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, and then I also we also watched um Conair.
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: I was about, I was gonna ask, please tell, I was gonna say, please tell me you shouldn't have Connair.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: Because that was like I I I love Air Force One, that's definitely a top 10 movie for me.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: And um I put on Twitter, like, what's another Air Force One type movie?
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: And like everyone's first response was Conair.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: Like you have to Conair kind of.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: It's so insane and it's it's so great.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: Nicolas Cage is so terrible in it, but so wonderful.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: But it's just like I don't know, it's there's something I really like about maybe because of that work as a writer, like sometimes it stresses me out.
- 36:59SPEAKER_01: It sounds horrible.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: This is bad artistry, but it stresses me out to write watch really good movies.
- 37:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know, I know what you're saying.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: Partially because it's like jokes-y, but uh yes.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: So there's something just so nice about watching movies that like this kind of movie where I would never think like, well, let's have this explode, or like I would I probably if you were showing me like some outline of this movie, I you could have given me the first page and I'd be like, This is a movie, yes, this ends here, but then there's like five more pages, and I'm just like, Yeah, that's great.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: I never would have thought to do that insane thing.
- 37:33SPEAKER_01: And it's like that kind of thing makes gets me energized rather than like sad weeby dramas that are probably beautiful.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: Um, but they just stress me out.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't think I can write like I think I would struggle to write an action movie.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:49SPEAKER_02: I it's it feels like it's very hard.
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: And I I wouldn't know where to start, honestly.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: I think I was when I was watching this, I was thinking, this is like a thing I admire in people, but maybe maybe men shouldn't have this, which is like it's just little boys kind of.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: It's just like boom, bam, and then this explodes, bang, bang, and then and but that he is such a bad guy for no real reason, bang, bang, bang.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: And like when you're making movies and TV and stuff, like it is, I think, a good thing to not have had the adult part of you shut that stuff down in a way, yeah.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: Um, but like, and then Martin Lawrence gets shot in the butt.
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: That's the funniest thing, is he's shot in the butt.
- 38:37SPEAKER_01: Like, let's but then I'm watching it, I'm like, it's Martin Lawrence, I'm gonna laugh at this.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: Well, it does make me w like this, might be going too much into detail, but it does make me wonder like what works about something like Connor and what and and why does that work better than some of the other ones?
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: True, yeah.
- 38:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's like there's still just as insane.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: Clearly good guys, clearly bad guys, um, and a lot of just corny, corny stuff that like I that just I don't know.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: There's also just like spectacle, and so you everything's exciting, and like it's just I don't want to think about why it works to be honest.
- 39:22SPEAKER_01: Fair, yeah, yeah.
- 39:23SPEAKER_02: Fair.
- 39:24SPEAKER_02: Alright, so um that we find out that um Sid, played by Gavriel Union, uh, is uh who's Martin Lawrence's sister in this, um, she shows up and she's uh part of the DEA and she jump she immediately jumps on Mike and starts like making out with him and everything, and Marcus doesn't know basically that they're together, or that they were like kind of like seeing each other while uh he was in New York on like a vacation.
- 39:54SPEAKER_02: Um but in the meantime Mark uh they don't know that Marcus is transferring secretly, which is a thing that's like brought up at the start and then like kind of left that whole movie.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:08SPEAKER_02: It doesn't really like it's not that important.
- 40:11SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 40:11SPEAKER_01: They're trying it's like they're trying to make a conflict between these two bad boys, yeah.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: And um the conflict is like you need to grow up, like which I think was the conflict in the first one.
- 40:21SPEAKER_02: Um, the third one.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: Wait, is this the the before or after the pool breaks?
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: Um the above ground pool at his house.
- 40:38SPEAKER_02: That must be a time, but I I think it's really Marcus is transferring and then the pool collapses.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: The pool collapsing is so funny.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: It's great.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: Such a good gag, and it's a great gag.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: Just to go right into the uh bay or whatever that is, like so good.
- 40:57SPEAKER_02: It's it's such a cheap pool that he's got, and it just like immediately just collapses in he goes flying off of his like rubber.
- 41:05SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, that's why he's sitting in the pool because he's like in pain.
- 41:08SPEAKER_02: Yes, as well.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: And so he goes, it doesn't even like of all the like amazing, uh amazing I don't know, is an interesting use of the word, but like things that are causing things to explode and blah blah blah.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: Like later, all that happens here is his like dog knocks something over.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: It's not even like on story that the pole being.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's right.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the dog takes it because he's the dog's on the chain and it like knocks into.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: Um yeah.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: But that like I remember like laughing at that because it's just it's it's funny.
- 41:38SPEAKER_01: It's really funny to watch, yeah, to watch that.
- 41:40SPEAKER_02: There are some fun this movie is funny.
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like there's good stuff, yeah.
- 41:45SPEAKER_02: Um so sits undercover, and um basically there's like there's a hit, there's been a hit job from the informants basically, and they like they lie, they lied to them.
- 41:58SPEAKER_02: Um and so there's and so they go on a chase, and I just wrote down there's like so much destruction, and there's like a massive pile up of cars and everything.
- 42:07SPEAKER_02: There's not really like like how do you explain these things?
- 42:10SPEAKER_02: Because there's just it's just like pure action scenes of car chases.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: It's just not really like any way to no, it's just like sit back and like it or don't like it, yeah.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: It's such an irresponsible movie.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: Very you like, I mean, obviously you're watching it and you're going, these these are bad boys, but like there's a scene, you know, this in that in this scene, the guy goes up the guy the guy with the white dreadlocks or the blondish dreadlocks, yeah.
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: He he goes onto a car carrier and just is like releasing cars.
- 42:41SPEAKER_01: Yes, and he so he's basically throwing cars at the cops, and then there's a scene later where they're like throwing dead bodies at the cops.
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: It's just like a and it to me it doesn't feel like an interesting callback where they're like, oh, like you know, we'll parallel this.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: I think it's just like it just happened, and they're like, this is cool.
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: But we're having another chase, we have to go on the bridge again.
- 43:08SPEAKER_01: And we we we uh we reserve the bridge for three days, guys, so we need to come up with something.
- 43:14SPEAKER_02: That's exactly what's happened, isn't it?
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: In these in these movies, actually, I think the reason I brought up the other movies that I was watching, um the thing that I keep noticing is like, why are these henchmen like putting like fighting so hard to protect these like bad guys?
- 43:30SPEAKER_02: That always happens in movies as well, and I never understand.
- 43:33SPEAKER_01: I'm like, at any point you can just bow out of this chase.
- 43:36SPEAKER_01: Like you don't have to keep trying like whatever.
- 43:40SPEAKER_01: I'd be a bad henchmen person.
- 43:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I would be as well.
- 43:44SPEAKER_02: I wrote but um I wrote down at this point this movie uh it's what a migraine feels like because it's just like fast paced editing, action, action, action, and it's just non stop.
- 43:57SPEAKER_02: And I yeah, I just This is the point.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: I think this might have been the point where I oh no, there's a little bit more and then I've I paused it for I think that's such a good description because also the the colours are so saturated in this.
- 44:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's very like saturated orangey reds and yeah.
- 44:14SPEAKER_01: It's it's really like a migraine for sure.
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: That's good.
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: I like that description.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: And this is when they're throwing the cars, like you said, and um basically a drop happens and the captain yells at them and says, You gotta do whatever it takes.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: Sorry, the cuts back to the to the the precinct things like I guess they get away.
- 44:34SPEAKER_02: Um the captain yells at them, he's like, do whatever it takes.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: And in the meantime, there's like um they cut to the mansion of the the bad guy, and he's got like which is just so excessive, first of all.
- 44:47SPEAKER_02: And they cut to the room full of money and everything, and the rats have invested the money, yeah, and they're just like eating away it, and it's like so eating millions of dollars, and he's furious at them, but then he starts shooting and he's shooting all the money.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: All the money.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: He says something that made me laugh, which is something like it's the rats eating the money, and he says to the guy, like, This is a stupid problem to have, or something like which made me laugh.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: I was like, Yeah, it's well said.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: But I like that is an interesting there's a couple things like that that I was like, that's kind of interesting writing to have like I like storage, yeah.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: The rats are eating the money, and then later they like they're the exterminators to go in, and like yeah, I thought that was pretty cool.
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: I think it's it's something I never would have thought about of like having money in this one location because of that, where it is, the rats are coming in and like infesting it.
- 45:36SPEAKER_02: I I that never would have crossed my mind to be honest.
- 45:39SPEAKER_02: Um but is this where they go in?
- 45:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this is this is where oh no, this is where he goes to the rasters and uh in the shop and he starts they start smashing up the the shop because it's like that he he informed them wrong.
- 45:53SPEAKER_02: So he tells them where it actually is and everything.
- 45:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:56SPEAKER_02: Um so they're basically their informant's been lying to them.
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:59SPEAKER_01: Um and so they go to This is just like an example, it's like just so they can have that scene where they're intimidating this guy and destroying his shop in order to get just bad cops, bad people should be around.
- 46:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they are not good people, and it's not for like it's not like in I mean, taken he's not a cop, but it's not like because you're trying to bring down sex traffickers, you're trying to like stop some ecstasy so it's like they're not like I thought I was thinking like they at least if they would have made like Sid and Marcus's, like their mom was a drug addict or something.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: So it's like there's a reason why they're like so interested in stopping drugs.
- 46:39SPEAKER_01: Um, but did they never they never do that?
- 46:41SPEAKER_01: They're just like, you know, I don't know.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: I don't think about it.
- 46:45SPEAKER_01: I stop drugs.
- 46:47SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: I th was was there like a big thing with ecstasy at the time as well?
- 46:53SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: Not in my life.
- 46:58SPEAKER_02: I was 14, so I don't know.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: It's very I think like people have this, and I don't know, maybe Miami is like this, but like they have this, it's such a cool, slick, yeah, there's clubs and there's hot bodies, and there's ecstasy is like a party drug.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: So that's definitely like perfect for Michael Bay world.
- 47:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, they're all in Miami, all three of them are in Miami, I think, aren't they?
- 47:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean that yeah, that's where there's cuts.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: So it's like there's like where can we have women in bikinis?
- 47:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah and then also cops.
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: All right, well, Miami or LA.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: Alright, let's see Miami.
- 47:37SPEAKER_02: Did you know that there's um a spin-off of it, supposedly, with with Gabrielle Union and uh Jessica Alba?
- 47:44SPEAKER_02: It's like a TV show.
- 47:46SPEAKER_02: Oh, uh I haven't seen it, but it's a thing is in LA.
- 47:51SPEAKER_01: LA's finest, I think.
- 47:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the thing.
- 47:53SPEAKER_01: Is that a bad boys thing?
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: That's something to do with bad boys.
- 47:57SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 48:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's it's just all so weird.
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: Like after the summer cop stuff.
- 48:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like I was even thinking about someone like Gabrielle Union who's so outspoken and smart and like progressive.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: I was like, I wonder what she's feeling, like, or like you know, how her show has changed.
- 48:21SPEAKER_01: Uh god damn, I did not know it was connected.
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: And it's um unless they just like I know it was initially, it was definitely there was talk of it being a bad boys TV show with those two in it.
- 48:35SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't know if they took out the bad boys stuff, but I imagine they kept it in because it's Gabriel Union.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: The you know who I thought was really funny is the two other cops, the Latino cops.
- 48:47SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, they were great.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: And they were like trading like racists and stuff.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: Like they were like genuinely funny actors.
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: I should look them up.
- 48:54SPEAKER_02: They're funny.
- 48:55SPEAKER_02: Um, but everything they say is awful, but they they they are funny in the in the movie.
- 49:00SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 49:02SPEAKER_02: Which is that that just sums up this movie.
- 49:04SPEAKER_02: It's like everything is awful, but it's funny, and it kind of there's things like working for some reason.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: It's like so much charm uh and and explosions.
- 49:14SPEAKER_02: While you while while you're looking that up, they they um there's a shootout, they so they go to the house and they um it's like this like very run-down house and uh with the West Aferians, and they're like there's like what are you doing in here?
- 49:30SPEAKER_02: And Will Smith starts shooting, he says, like, I'm the devil, and uh which is apparently like a huge thing for them, and he's like, Don't bring up the Martin Lord, don't bring up the devil in here with them.
- 49:41SPEAKER_02: And um he makes this comment which he goes, You're you're in my country.
- 49:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, I didn't catch that.
- 49:48SPEAKER_01: Which made me like, why no Imagine if they made bad boys too with white guys?
- 49:54SPEAKER_02: I know, or or just any of the bad boys.
- 49:58SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 49:58SPEAKER_02: Two other guys.
- 49:59SPEAKER_02: It was supposed to be, oh, I I need to look it up now because it was it was two people that you wouldn't expect, from what I remember.
- 50:05SPEAKER_01: I I like just some so much of the stuff, like shoot first, ask questions later stuff.
- 50:10SPEAKER_01: It's just I guess like also because they're both black guys, there there is you do kind of like uh head off a little bit of the racism stuff, but it's still racist institution.
- 50:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:25SPEAKER_02: Oh I was I was massively wrong.
- 50:28SPEAKER_02: It was supposed to be Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes.
- 50:31SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's pretty fucking cool.
- 50:33SPEAKER_02: That that would have been great.
- 50:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man, I was I've really like I have come to a new appreciation of Wesley Snipes after this little movie festival I had.
- 50:45SPEAKER_02: Um just having a Wesley Snipes movie festival.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: Wait, is is the the uh yeah it is.
- 50:52SPEAKER_01: It's at is at that house where they do that.
- 50:55SPEAKER_01: There's that where is he when Will Smith is on one side of the wall and he's got both spinning around and around.
- 51:02SPEAKER_02: It's a great shop.
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: I was mad at myself for being so into that.
- 51:06SPEAKER_01: I was like, yeah, um that was cool.
- 51:10SPEAKER_01: And then they go to the video store.
- 51:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they go to the video store.
- 51:14SPEAKER_02: Um and this is where his PTSD is kind of made into a joke, like uh Marcus's PSD PTSD.
- 51:20SPEAKER_02: He's like very upset about everything, and he's like try he doesn't know how to handle it, and he's like, This is too much for me over the last three days.
- 51:26SPEAKER_02: It's been so much and so intense and everything.
- 51:29SPEAKER_02: And they turn it into a joke, and it's a gay joke.
- 51:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's sitting there on the sofa upset, yeah, and like the the guys are watching on because the can't they bring the camera basically over there and they hook up to the to the the the video, the TVs and everything, and it goes across the whole of the store.
- 51:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:45SPEAKER_02: So everyone's seeing it and hearing it, and they think he's gay, basically, is the joke.
- 51:50SPEAKER_01: Which I think is another like it's a great idea for a sh a scene where it's like they're trying they need to go run into this.
- 51:59SPEAKER_01: Actually, happens in murder at 1600, too.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: Like they just run into a video store, we need to see what this is, and then it ends up on all the screens.
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's cool.
- 52:06SPEAKER_00: That's fine.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: And then it then it becomes the porno at the end.
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: But like, yeah, uh, and then they have this heart to heart that just becomes like a gay joke.
- 52:16SPEAKER_02: Um Do you know who do it really well actually?
- 52:19SPEAKER_02: Is it's Brooklyn 99 in the very opening of the pilot where they have the uh the teddy bear cam and he's got it like and so he hooks it up and he is like filming her as a joke, and so it goes across all the screens and everything.
- 52:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, I don't remember that.
- 52:32SPEAKER_02: It's actually really it's a much better done than it is in this one.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:38SPEAKER_01: They there there that was another scene I was thinking about like how there's so many like one-on-ones that they have where they're like summarizing what's happening, but also like relating to each other.
- 52:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:51SPEAKER_02: Um I'm fine with them like talking to each other and like expressing themselves to each other.
- 52:57SPEAKER_02: That'd be okay.
- 52:58SPEAKER_02: You don't have to turn it into a gay joke.
- 53:00SPEAKER_02: No, it's yeah.
- 53:02SPEAKER_01: Or I mean people can overhear them and think they're gay.
- 53:06SPEAKER_01: That's fine, but not if it's like supposed to be funny or horrible that they're gay.
- 53:12SPEAKER_02: Um that's the joke.
- 53:14SPEAKER_02: The the thing is it's supposed to be bad that they are gay.
- 53:16SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 53:17SPEAKER_01: That's that's the joke around it, which is sure that the audiences were like scream laughing when this was.
- 53:23SPEAKER_02: There's also like the gay, there's the very effeminate gay character in it as well.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: That's like, oh, they're really struggling, these two.
- 53:31SPEAKER_02: He does make like one of the guys watching the TV.
- 53:33SPEAKER_02: And it's just like right, right, right.
- 53:35SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah.
- 53:37SPEAKER_01: Um and then there's the porns.
- 53:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's porn on the on the video as well.
- 53:45SPEAKER_02: Um so that basically they find out that they got um there's a pest control thing and they got a tap, they tap the phones, they they get the pest control thing, they find out, and um, they're gonna come in and f and like pretend to be pest control and plant bugs and everything.
- 54:01SPEAKER_02: And um, so they they start like they go in and they try and like go, oh we gotta do the whole place, and he he refuses to let them do the whole place, obviously.
- 54:09SPEAKER_02: He's like, No, just do this room, it's fine.
- 54:12SPEAKER_02: Mike sneaks out, starts bugging the whole place while that's happening.
- 54:16SPEAKER_02: Um Marcus is like drilling through the holes and he's like terrified of the rats and everything.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: Um I'm I also hate rats, so like I anytime I see them, I'm like, this is disgusting.
- 54:28SPEAKER_02: There's in this movie.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: There I just remembered a thing, like a thing that I remember made me laugh is like when Marcus is in the Rastafarian guy's house, Jamaican guy or whatever, and he's dead.
- 54:42SPEAKER_01: He's like, Well, let me ask him what he like because he's like, You killed our witness or whatever, and then he's like, Oh, he's all fucked up.
- 54:50SPEAKER_01: I don't remember that.
- 54:51SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 54:52SPEAKER_01: I remember laughing really hard at that, and I laughed last night.
- 54:55SPEAKER_01: Um, but then with the rats, like I was thinking too, it's like Martin Lawrence, is that a 10 in every fucking scene?
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: He's like losing his mind in every scene.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: Like, how did he do that?
- 55:06SPEAKER_02: The uh but the the guard spots them basically uh because uh he goes downstairs because like the one of the cameras isn't working and he spots like the the camera's been like unplugged and then uh Marcus has left his no sorry Mike has left his bag outside underneath while he keeps walking around.
- 55:22SPEAKER_02: Um meanwhile, while that's going on, there's like a the Russian guy's come to the uh to the house to like supposedly might make a deal and as as he's done that uh the the villain I forget the villain's name and I I haven't said his name at all today.
- 55:39SPEAKER_02: Uh I'll tell you.
- 55:41SPEAKER_02: You keep going.
- 55:43SPEAKER_02: It but so he threw they bring over a barrel with the Russian part guy's partner in the barrel, and he's just like completely it's disgusting.
- 55:53SPEAKER_02: And um they he's been chopped up and stuff stuffed in a barrel, and the Russian guy doesn't really flinch, he's just like, oh in my country we see this all the time and the way he gets around way the way the guy gets around it is to say, I'm uh I will who should I go for first?
- 56:10SPEAKER_02: Your daughter or your wife?
- 56:11SPEAKER_02: Oh no, your son or your wife, I think it is or it might be daughter um basically your kid or your wife, and so he assigns over all the clubs to him.
- 56:23SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 56:24SPEAKER_02: Which kind of seems like I don't know, the Russian guy's beside of things.
- 56:29SPEAKER_02: So was wait, Johnny Tapia.
- 56:31SPEAKER_02: I just looked it up, sorry.
- 56:33SPEAKER_02: What was his name, sorry?
- 56:34SPEAKER_02: Tapia?
- 56:34SPEAKER_02: Tapia.
- 56:35SPEAKER_02: Tapia.
- 56:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:37SPEAKER_02: I I vaguely recall that now.
- 56:39SPEAKER_02: They don't really say his name that much, I don't think.
- 56:41SPEAKER_01: They don't need to.
- 56:42SPEAKER_02: No.
- 56:43SPEAKER_02: But basically, like they um it's the it's the thing that like he's supplying.
- 56:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, they're Haitian.
- 56:49SPEAKER_01: They're Haitian guys, not the guy.
- 56:51SPEAKER_01: Oh, sorry, yeah.
- 56:51SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 56:52SPEAKER_02: They Haitian, yeah.
- 56:52SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 56:53SPEAKER_02: My my mistake.
- 56:54SPEAKER_02: And so he signs over the club the clubs, but are they like is the deal that the the clubs are like being supplied with ecstasy and that's like funding something?
- 57:04SPEAKER_02: I don't entirely understand what the Russians guys purpose.
- 57:07SPEAKER_02: I have no idea.
- 57:09SPEAKER_02: Doesn't matter.
- 57:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 57:11SPEAKER_02: Anyway, something's going on with those two.
- 57:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 57:13SPEAKER_02: Basically.
- 57:14SPEAKER_02: And so he signs over the clubs, and at that moment, Mike finds a finger of the of the the the partner and he kills the guard.
- 57:25SPEAKER_02: Um and they they run back to the thing.
- 57:30SPEAKER_02: Sid goes uh to the beach with Tapia and she's wearing a wire, and he immediately and he knows that she's wearing a wire, basically, like, but he he's not saying it.
- 57:43SPEAKER_02: And he goes, like, come in the water with me.
- 57:46SPEAKER_02: And he like makes her go into the into the sea.
- 57:49SPEAKER_02: And uh so obviously like they that that ruins that whole plan.
- 57:53SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 57:53SPEAKER_02: And um who is I wrote down cousin Floyd.
- 57:59SPEAKER_02: Who is cousin Floyd?
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: Oh maybe cousin Floyd is the uh white is Michael Shannon.
- 58:06SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 58:07SPEAKER_01: Is that right?
- 58:08SPEAKER_02: Cousin Floyd is Michael Shannon, yes, you're right.
- 58:10SPEAKER_02: Yes, he's Michael Shannon, because that's when yeah, because they they they capture him in the in the they bring him from the jail and they like they say like you're gonna have to cooperate with us and they shove him in the back of a car in the boot in the uh drunk.
- 58:23SPEAKER_02: What is it?
- 58:24SPEAKER_02: Drunk, yes, yeah.
- 58:27SPEAKER_02: And um while all this is going on, they go on a they get in a chase and they steal um they go to steal a car and it's like Michael Bay's like terrible car, first of all.
- 58:37SPEAKER_02: And he's like, get a better car, and so they get this other one, they stop it, and it's Dan Marino, like on a test drive.
- 58:44SPEAKER_02: Anything you need, officers.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's like very like, yeah, let me know how it drives.
- 58:50SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry, obviously he was just like visiting the set of wanted to be in it.
- 58:54SPEAKER_01: Well, he's he's was uh a big star, a big star.
- 58:58SPEAKER_01: He was like the quarterback of the um Dolphins, so he's like a big Miami guy.
- 59:03SPEAKER_02: So that was like Do you reckon they do you reckon they actually called him in and like to be in it?
- 59:08SPEAKER_01: What do you mean?
- 59:09SPEAKER_02: Do you reckon they or do you reckon he was like visiting and they had to put him in it or be in it?
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: I think that they probably like were like, this is Miami, who's like yeah.
- 59:19SPEAKER_01: I I think This is Miami.
- 59:21SPEAKER_02: Who do you think of Dan Marino?
- 59:23SPEAKER_01: Who's the big who's who's the king of Miami?
- 59:27SPEAKER_01: Um right, so then they they get his car.
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: And why why are they doing that?
- 59:32SPEAKER_02: They're on a car chase with um I believe Tapia.
- 59:38SPEAKER_01: Oh, to is this the one where the the bodies This is the bot dead bodies, yeah.
- 59:42SPEAKER_02: The dead bodies are getting thrown.
- 59:43SPEAKER_01: Like I was thinking that, you know, in the very beginning of the movie, like they have the coffins that go underwater and then they like rise the top.
- 59:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 59:54SPEAKER_01: I think that that like steps from like a from a um a cis from I don't know, a plot perspective.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: Like it would have been so much more interesting to find figure out that the coffins were related later.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like because you kind of know right away, like, oh, the coffins have to do with the drugs, but it like it wasn't a mystery that like you were seeing.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_02: Nothing is a mystery in this movie.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_02: No, there's no mystery in it.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_02: You know exactly what's going on.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_02: Then there's the dead bodies on the on the road, and they get thrown out onto the road, they fall into the street, and they land on one, they land on the car at one point, and he's like Marcus is like throwing it off the sides.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: So irresponsible, so yeah, unconscionable.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_01: No, thank you.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_01: I would I would never participate in this, just so people know.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_02: Um you're too nice for that.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_01: I'm too nice.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_01: Also, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_02: And also that's insane.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_02: Um but they crashed into uh a building, and at that moment the guy one of the guys like runs out of the building, there's a shoot, there's a whole shootout, and um they they he runs onto the train, and uh Mike jumps onto the train with him, and Marcus is too late, so he jumps onto the back of the train as it's moving, which is also insane.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_02: And they have a whole gunfight through the whole of the carriage.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_02: Like a shootout through the carriage, and they end up smashing through the front and landing, and it's just horrible because they're like lying on the front of the track train as it's going speeding along.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_02: Is it supposed to be an automatic train?
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_02: I don't ins I don't know why it ends up going off.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_01: Uh it's it's like what do you mean?
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_01: Like a monorail sort of thing where it's like just I think it's like a you know, an el an elevated train, like a subway above ground.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_01: I I don't really know.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_02: There's no like because it doesn't look like there's a conductor or anything.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_01: Oh no, no, it's not that kind of thing.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's what I mean.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_02: It just yeah, it just goes automatically.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_02: And um so they're like lying on there and they're having a fight right on the front of the train as it's speeding along.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_02: It's it's very scary to watch.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_02: I hate that kind of thing.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_02: And Mike throws the other guy off and he lands under the train, you see him like and it electrocutes him, it's horrible.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: And what what people can't see because this is all a podcast, is like we're kind of like acting out the motions of like what was happening as we're trying to explain it.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, it's kind of funny.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, and then they're mad because that their only connection, like their witness.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_02: He was the only yeah, he was the witness, and he was yeah, they can't like question him.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_02: So it immediately loses it.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_02: And um so we find out Marcus we this cuts back to when Marcus is transferring and he's like very upset about everything.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_02: And this is the scene with Reggie, where his daughter's going on a date with this guy, this kid called Reggie, right?
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_02: 15-year-old, and so they decide to terrify him by playing bad cop, worse cop, from the looks of it.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just it's not it's not even good cop back.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_01: It it's it's also not necessary the plot at all.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_02: Like it's just it's not anything.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just it's weird to see in in these movies like or this movie, the we're already so like the action is just coming at you so quickly.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_01: So then go back to the Marcus's home where it's like calm and peaceful, like it just seems like what what are we doing?
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, but then you then you get this like classic scene out of it where they're intimidating Reggie and he's just like taking it.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_02: He just stands there the entire time.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_02: And I don't really know what to say about it.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_02: It's kind of horrible.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_02: It's like it's yeah, it it's it was funny when it came out.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_02: Um from what I remember it now.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_02: I'm like, no, this is not nice.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_01: It's kind of like I I get I I don't know if anyone has made it this far into the podcast.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_01: Um that like god, it's just I hope we can continue to sorry to tease this word, unpack this idea of like just guarding your daughter's sexuality, like so hardcore and like through the threat of violence to uh other people.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_01: Um it's just so horrible and damaging, but it just it fits with like everything about it fits with them, yeah.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_01: And and like his sister protecting his sister, even though his sister is like a cop.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_01: He's like uh it's it's so childish.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_02: There's so there's a lot of toxic masculinity in this movie.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_01: I mean they're bad boys, yeah.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're definitely not good boys, as you said.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_02: Um so they sneak into the mortuary, and um in that moment, oh did I miss something?
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_02: You you look very confused.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_01: No, I actually I look confused because I just was thinking like the song Bad Boys is about the criminals, but the movie Bad Boys is about the cops.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_01: And I never put that together.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_02: I've I've never put that together.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_01: Put that in your promo.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_01: Man.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_01: Man, wow.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_01: Good on you, Michael Bay.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_02: And wait, the song from this one is they use that, but they also use Shake Your Tail Feather.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_02: That's the theme of this one.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_02: That was written for this.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_01: I know the executive m music uh consultant was P.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_01: Diddy.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_02: That makes sense.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_02: In this um, that makes sense in why they were shoving a ludicrous song for no reason as well.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they call I think they call Reggie like a ludicrous ass.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's when they shove the song in.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_01: Um Yes.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_01: Okay, so okay, so um Then they go to the morgue, right?
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and they they start like put well, Mike starts putting his hands in all the bod in hat hand in all the bodies, like try and find some anything, and like Marcus is disgusted.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_02: By it and he's throwing up constantly.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_01: Um my god, we are like not even close to the end of this movie yet.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to I'm trying to go faster as well.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_01: I'm not making fun of you.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_01: I'm just thinking, like, God, they're so long.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_02: Um I mean, we're kind of I've only got one page left to be honest.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_02: Okay, good.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_02: I've only got one page of notes.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_02: Literally.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_02: Like just staring at a dead woman.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_01: But then there's the scene where like they're yelling at the other two cops, like, drive drive the ambulance into the building, and are really funny.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_01: And they do that is a great scene.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_01: It's so good.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_01: Like when when they they drive the the ambulance into the building, it's like the little like entryway.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_01: And I was like, wow, that's was probably so expensive and like such a huge thing.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_01: And like it was just an example, like then, like the then like the aunt or whatever, the like the roof falls.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_01: Did the roof and I was like, that didn't need to happen to sell the idea that these guys guys drove into the building and it was not good.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_01: Like you didn't have to do that extra thing, but they did, which I guess is what makes Michael Bay Michael Bay.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_02: I just love the line as they get he gets out of the car and he's like, Oh, sorry, my foot got stuck on the pedal when he's he's really good.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_01: I want to see some other stuff that guy's in.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_02: Um but while that's happening, they they say that because they found uh the bags of drugs in there basically.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_02: They found all the excess in the bodies.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_02: And um they uh he throws the bag, uh Mike throws the bag to Marcus, and as he does that, two of the it's so common two of the two of the pills full like fly out and land in Marcus's glass that he happens to fill up with water and drink.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_02: Right, right, uh-huh.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_02: And so he gets high on ecstasy.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_02: And um they show up to the captain's house and he's like completely high, and he's just like it's just a whole like scene just for him to like mess around.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_02: It's a set piece, yeah.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_02: And it's it's it's very funny.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_01: It's so funny.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_01: Like, it's such a like all right, well, okay, then this actor wants to do this thing where they get high and but it's Martin's.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_01: That's the stuff that I like Martin Lawrence for.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_02: I like that kind of stuff.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_02: When he left, and I wish that I don't think they did enough of it in this.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_01: I like one thing I liked about it is it was such a nice change from him being disgusted at about it by everything and like hating everything because he is really annoying.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_01: Like there's sometimes we won't shut up and shut.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_01: But for him to just be happy was like nice.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_01: And when he's looking at the fish, I was laughing out loud.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_02: But it's not the fish he puts on a robe.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_01: Nothing needs to happen in that scene that happens, aside like they don't even need to go to his house to get like, or maybe they do, but you don't need to see that scene.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_01: You don't need to see it.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_01: All just to see like one of the funniest men in the world, like yeah, funny.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, it's it's a very funny scene.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_02: Again, but yeah, you're right, it doesn't need to happen.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_02: No, it doesn't help.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_02: There's so much that could be caught from this movie, it's just like it's just excess.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_02: It's just excess.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_01: There's so much like um gosh, most of the time I would say uh therapy or meditation or yoga is represented in movies and TV.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_01: It's just completely wrong.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_01: It's not that's not accurate at all.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_01: It's not how therapists act, it's not no one is having you walk around and say huzzah or whatever.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_01: Uh what-saw.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_01: Wu-saw did they get there?
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_01: It's just always wrong, especially with like yoga.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_01: But um, it's just just like annoying because it's just like someone once heard about therapy and then was like, Oh, I'll write a movie about it, because I heard my neighbor mentioned it once.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_01: Um, so like, and it's the chief is just such a like a weird caricature of someone, like he yeah.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_02: Um he's like a real 80s, he's like a real 80s action movie uh chief, isn't he?
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_02: But it feels but in this 2003.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_01: So it feels like kind of liked like I liked that about it, like the scene where they're outside the mall or the car dealership or whatever it is, and he's yelling at them.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_01: Like one, I I was like, I just I like when good actors are in obviously bad things and they're still being good actors.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because he's always always a good actor as well.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_01: He's so good.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_01: And Joe Joe Pantaliano, and and I was like, oh, this is an interesting thing where they're taking this trope of the cop that just yells at you and or that yells at the bad boys, and you know, it's in like 48 hours and like a ton of other movies, and it's almost just like a little bit of a fun throwbackslash parody of it that I did appreciate how like kind of out of place and outdated it was.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_01: Uh and then I think it's like so well in um So I Married an Axe Murderer.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_01: Have you seen that?
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_02: Uh a long time ago, yeah.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_01: They they have the cop, um, the guy that plays the chief and Alan Arkin, I think.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_01: And he's trying really hard to be like a mean police chief, and he can't be, uh, which is like a uh I don't know.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_01: Check it out, it's a good movie.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_02: I need yeah, that's a that's a movie I haven't seen in decades.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_01: Um it's something that like you need to see as a grown-up to understand like what people liked about it.
- 1:11:37unknown: Yeah.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_02: Um so Sid, like every time I talk about Sid, it's just like Sid wires up.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_02: Sid wears Yeah.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_02: She puts uh so she does that and they put they they all go and they're gonna like because basically what they've done is they've discovered all this stuff, they've they've found everything, so like now it can all uh get going.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_02: And this is where uh they're gonna go and do like the uh take down everyone in the mansion, and so Sid wires up and she goes in there um not knowing that the all of them are going on this like mission to take it all out.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_02: Uh so she's stuck in there while all this is going on, and all the police like surrounding the building, and at that moment the Russian guy like drive drives up and he's completely drunk and uh and he's like shooting everything and uh he he walks into the ha into the mansion and he's like um he's just like yelling, and then like the um the police end up shooting him and he falls in the pool.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_01: Um I might have been like in the bathroom for that part because I don't remember that and it's stupid and pointless.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he doesn't need to be in it at all.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_02: No, but I think it's I think it might be just that they they hear some gunshots.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, so it gives them a reason to like enter that is sure.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_02: But yeah, the police are doing that and everyone starts like chase running away.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_02: Um there's a helicopter chase on a s uh chasing a speed boat.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of helicopters in this and a lot of helicopter shots in this because this is like Michael Bay loves a helicopter.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_02: Pre-drone, you know, yeah, drone too.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's pre-drone, but there's also uh a little uh RC car that comes in on a with a camera on it.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_02: So that's like the closest you get to a drone.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_01: The the the security guards are like trying to catch it and they can't for some reason.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_02: They can't they all they all surround it.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_02: So they can't.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_02: The thing is like the security guards are like um they're gonna uh they all play soccer at like 3 30 p.m.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_02: or something like that every day.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_02: And so they circle around it and they're all looking at whatever it is, it turns up and like explodes.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_01: And so they all have to be like, You guys are sorry, he presses the button.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_01: I would say if you're anybody who is it who would live in a house or have some sort of power that other people want, don't do anything at the same time every day.
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_01: With every security, mix it up, like mix it up, mix up your routine.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_01: Otherwise, people are gonna figure out how to heist you.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_01: You're gonna get heisted if they can like look at their clock, look at their watch, and be like, okay, here we go.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_02: And also don't hire a random uh like pest control to come in.
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, they all get away, he gets away on a private plane and he like he takes Sid with him on the private plane.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_02: Because he wants his money back.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and he says, You I've got you got 48 hours to return my hundred million.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_02: Um and so basically some of the police don't want them to go on this, uh, but then a lot of them join them for some reason.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, which is what I didn't understand.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_01: I was like, not earned at all.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_01: It's just like it's your sister, all right, let's go.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_01: And they're all like stepping out from the crowd to say, I'll go with you, why not?
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it's a lot of them.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_01: And it's not earned.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_01: Like the bad boys never did anything to help these guys, like the bad boys.
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_01: I bet all these guys, like, there's so many community councils that have to happen because of what the bad boys do.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_01: There's like, I'm sure a bunch of committees and paper extra paperwork for these guys have to do because of the bad boys.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_02: So much paperwork.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_01: So I don't know why they're standing.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_01: Like if they they should just turn the bad boys in right now, and they could be all like they could all be the mayor if they wanted.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_02: I want to know how much money they waste, these two.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_02: Like how much damage they look they're drawing destroying the bridge in Miami.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_02: Like that's that's not a cheap bridge.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_01: Go to a city that has cheap bridges.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_02: Um but they they end up going to Cuba and they invade Cuba.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_01: They go to Cuba because one of the cops has a cousin there.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_01: Who can help them.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_01: And they say, don't worry about passports, because if they find us, we ain't coming back.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_02: I forgot that as well.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_01: So it's a full-on military uh act of war operation.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's fully illegal what they're doing.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_01: Which I actually think like it would be a cool premise for an entire movie is cops having to do this for some reason or another.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_02: Um but it's not the final ten minutes of the movie.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_02: Um and so they get they literally they're the the the stake the safe out, like the stakeout house is facing the mansion, which is so dumb.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_02: And they're like, no, he doesn't know we're here, but we've been staking it out.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_02: And uh they hide in coffins to go inside the building.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_02: And um the the this is where the RC camera stuff happens, and then there's like a rocket launcher like a slaunched uh fired.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_02: Uh it's it's just full-on action.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_02: Uh they k they manage to like get the mum and daughter, so his the the guy's uh Tapia's mum and daughter into safety.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_02: Um but Tapia gets Cid.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_02: Oh no, they get Sid, sorry.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_02: They managed to get Sid.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_02: Just instantly they get her.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_02: It's like no, it's not hard to kill her.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_01: Do any of the cops die in this scene?
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_02: I don't feel like they do.
- 1:17:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't think so.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_02: And then they're a lot of the other guys die with the landmines.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, so they drive a hammer out of there.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, that's right.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_02: A yellow hummer, which is just like so of the time.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_01: This movie is just cocaine, cocaine, written and directed, and everything by cocaine.
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_01: It's weird that it was ecstasy instead of cocaine.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I guess they wanted they were like, let's do something different instead of cocaine all the time.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_02: Let's do ecstasy.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, so then so then Sid ends up throwing a gun at a landmine.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_02: Well, first of all, they drive this.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_02: Is another thing that I wanted to talk about, because they drive through like the I guess like the like the the no man's land?
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was like all the shanty town, isn't it?
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_02: They destroy like the whole town driving through it.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_01: It yeah, it's so irresponsible.
- 1:18:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh irresponsible is such a corny word to keep using, but like it's so awful.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_01: They destroy these people's homes, they treat it like a yeah.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_01: I forgot, I think I fell asleep for that part too.
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_01: But I remember from the last time I watched it and just like these these boys, the bad boys are the bad guys.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_01: They really are.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, like you said, they're standing on the they they drive to like the border of Cuba uh Cuba in the US uh US territory, and Sid uh well, first of all, Tapia gets Mike by gunpoint, and Sid throws her gun and like explodes uh the landmine for one of them, kills one of the guys, and as at that moment, uh Marcus shoots Tapia and kills him.
- 1:19:11SPEAKER_01: Um then he explodes.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_02: And then he explodes?
- 1:19:15SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, because he falls back, shoots him through the head, he falls back, and he's dead.
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_01: In slow motion, he falls into the sand.
- 1:19:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_01: And it's like, whoa, he's dead.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_01: And and Mike is like, that's how you shoot from now on, and then he explodes.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_01: Like that's not how his body comes up.
- 1:19:29unknown: Yeah.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_01: Which by the way, doesn't mean you say like it's so weird that an action hero is named Mike.
- 1:19:34SPEAKER_01: It's just a funny name.
- 1:19:36SPEAKER_01: Like Mike is just Mike Lowry.
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_02: Mike Lowry, which I've always I don't know why that's always stuck with me, but his full name is Mike Lowry.
- 1:19:44SPEAKER_02: His full name is Mike Lowry, and it's like very I think they use it in a couple of like songs.
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_02: Do they?
- 1:19:51SPEAKER_01: Uh I mean he's that he's like a uh action movie hero.
- 1:19:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but just Mike is such like a boring, at least an American American accent, it's just like a boring name.
- 1:20:02SPEAKER_01: You're like Mike.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_02: Mike, yeah, it's not a great it's not a great name.
- 1:20:07SPEAKER_01: That's why they always use like Jack or in movies.
- 1:20:10SPEAKER_01: It's just like that's a cool name to yell.
- 1:20:12SPEAKER_02: Uh well you say that, but Jack Reacher is a weird one.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_02: I've never understood that one.
- 1:20:19SPEAKER_01: Oh god, I haven't seen that in a while.
- 1:20:21SPEAKER_01: Is that on your list?
- 1:20:22SPEAKER_02: Jack Reacher.
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_02: I don't know what that's rated actually.
- 1:20:27SPEAKER_01: I wonder, I think people like the first one.
- 1:20:29SPEAKER_01: That's in Pittsburgh, where I used to live.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_01: Um that's why I I like Is that the only reason you know about it?
- 1:20:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_01: It was like shot in Pennsylvania.
- 1:20:37SPEAKER_01: It's a Pennsylvania movie.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_01: I've been there, I've been there.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_01: Um, so we're uh So it's just the end of the movie.
- 1:20:44SPEAKER_02: Like Mike runs over to kiss Sid, but he like runs through the landmine to do it.
- 1:20:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then oh right, uh huh.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_02: And they're like, what and then because my uh Marcus is like, what are you doing?
- 1:20:55SPEAKER_02: Couldn't that have waited?
- 1:20:57SPEAKER_02: And it then it comes to the end credits, like, and then they're sitting, they're in the pool, they're in like Mike's bought Marcus a new pool, and they're sitting and they're talking and they're arguing.
- 1:21:08SPEAKER_01: And they're just being in the they're bantering like the bad boys, bantering and the pool breaks, and they go playing it.
- 1:21:13SPEAKER_01: And they end up into the bay or whatever it is.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then they start singing bad boys.
- 1:21:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they do, they start singing it for some reason.
- 1:21:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're just saying bad boys, bad boys.
- 1:21:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:21:24SPEAKER_01: Uh, and then the movie's over.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_02: Then the movie's over.
- 1:21:27SPEAKER_02: The very, very long movie is over.
- 1:21:29SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 1:21:29SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:21:31SPEAKER_02: Five pages of notes.
- 1:21:34SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:21:35SPEAKER_01: That's the bad boys.
- 1:21:37SPEAKER_01: They're bad boys.
- 1:21:37SPEAKER_02: That's the bad boys.
- 1:21:38SPEAKER_01: Whereas we I guess bad boys, we used to say I'm trying to think like how because what would you say in Philly?
- 1:21:45SPEAKER_01: We would say we would say bad boys, which is sounds very different than how you say it.
- 1:21:50SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, so so in summary, yes.
- 1:21:55SPEAKER_02: In summary, well, more so, out of what we've described, what can you defend?
- 1:22:02SPEAKER_01: Can you defend the audacity?
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_02: I can defend I mean there are I can defend some stuff as well.
- 1:22:10SPEAKER_01: Simply the audacity.
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, I do think there's like a lot of really cool shots that are good at moving the act, like the action, yeah, it's really well carried like by the direction and the cinematography, like, is specific.
- 1:22:29SPEAKER_01: Um, it feels very uh Miami.
- 1:22:31SPEAKER_02: I think the cinematography is good, actually.
- 1:22:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I will say that.
- 1:22:34SPEAKER_01: The color the the colors that they use.
- 1:22:37SPEAKER_01: Um I can defend that.
- 1:22:39SPEAKER_01: And I mean, I can just Martin Lawrence and Will Smith, like it's a there's so much wrong and bad and damaging for the culture that we live in that that in this movie of like if this is the thing that was held up and this is the thing that people looked at, it's like this is cool, this is guns and all that stuff.
- 1:23:00SPEAKER_01: Um but I also if you have Martin Lawrence and Will Smith at your disposal's disposal, like do whatever make whatever movie you want.
- 1:23:13SPEAKER_01: Like they're they're so good and they carry it so well.
- 1:23:16SPEAKER_02: Um I think they save what could what in other hands would be a very, very bad movie with two other people in it.
- 1:23:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:23:23SPEAKER_02: I think it's held up by them because it's built around them, especially for the second one.
- 1:23:27SPEAKER_01: Like they know what works between them, and like, all right, we want to see them fight about this, we want to see a gay panic scene, we want to see uh them dance, we want to see like Martin Lawrence be high.
- 1:23:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um the I thought that Gabrielle Union is really good in it.
- 1:23:45SPEAKER_01: Like, I think that she's like I just always think that she's she's good.
- 1:23:49SPEAKER_01: I think it was probably like thinking about this last night, like the first bad boys Tia Leone is in it, right?
- 1:23:55SPEAKER_02: And that's right, yeah.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_02: I forgot about that.
- 1:23:58SPEAKER_01: Like in this one, for uh a dark-skinned black woman to be like the the lead and also like Will Smith's love interest in this like world this movie that's gonna go worldwide, um, was a big deal.
- 1:24:14SPEAKER_01: Uh and it just happens to be Gabrielle Union, who's like one of the best, the hardest women around.
- 1:24:22SPEAKER_02: But like kind of speaking to that actually, it reminds me because you because this came out a year before Hitch, which um I know that they they wouldn't let Will Smith have uh I don't I know I don't know who they wanted for the original to play Eva Mendez's character, but they wouldn't let him have a white woman as the uh as the love interest for a a ro a rom com.
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_02: So I think that's interesting that Tia Leone is in the first one and then like the Cabriol Union's in this one.
- 1:24:52SPEAKER_02: Who wouldn't let him the studio?
- 1:24:55SPEAKER_01: I thought you were about to say that they wouldn't let him cast a black woman.
- 1:24:59SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:25:00SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 1:25:02SPEAKER_02: Interesting, okay or they might I I I would assume they wouldn't as well, to be honest.
- 1:25:07SPEAKER_01: Um why was it for like for worldwide release?
- 1:25:13SPEAKER_01: Marketing, yeah.
- 1:25:14SPEAKER_02: Marketing, yeah.
- 1:25:15SPEAKER_01: Um that's I mean, even Meta's is really good in that, I think.
- 1:25:19SPEAKER_01: She is, yeah.
- 1:25:20SPEAKER_01: But that's interesting.
- 1:25:21SPEAKER_01: Like it's it's definitely not something that I would have thought about like when I first saw it.
- 1:25:26SPEAKER_01: I think I was probably just like, oh, Gabriel Union, awesome.
- 1:25:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but like just looking back, isn't it?
- 1:25:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I like the you know, hopefully we all have new lenses.
- 1:25:38SPEAKER_01: Um I was like wondering what people thought then if it was a if it was like a a big thing, it might not have been a big thing.
- 1:25:47SPEAKER_01: I'm sure it was like really cool to see her on screen if you're somebody that looks like her.
- 1:25:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um but uh that part that part was cool.
- 1:25:56SPEAKER_01: Like I'd I'd love to see them in something together again.
- 1:25:59SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, so would I.
- 1:26:02SPEAKER_02: I mean, I guess that's I'll probably think of other things I can defend.
- 1:26:06SPEAKER_02: That's a lot.
- 1:26:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:26:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, but the good does not outweigh the bad.
- 1:26:12SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say, did you well, did you enjoy it this time round when you re-watched it?
- 1:26:17SPEAKER_02: Did you enjoy it?
- 1:26:18SPEAKER_01: I enjoyed it.
- 1:26:19SPEAKER_01: You know what's funny is I enjoyed it uh when I watched it like months and months and months ago.
- 1:26:26SPEAKER_01: I remember I watched it with my when did Bad Boys 3 come?
- 1:26:31SPEAKER_02: Because I watched it uh last January.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_01: Last January, because I was gonna say, yeah, my friend was my friend Tim and I watched it together.
- 1:26:38SPEAKER_01: I was about to say I watched it with a person, so it was definitely before quarantine.
- 1:26:43SPEAKER_01: And I like we were watching it just like this movie's nuts, like and laughing and like I can't believe it.
- 1:26:49SPEAKER_01: And then and then after this year, watching it again was really different, like less than a about a year later.
- 1:26:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's so strange, isn't it?
- 1:26:59SPEAKER_01: Um I I think and also being in like in the industry and like having been on movie sets and films, uh TV sets, just like knowing all of the work that goes into one tiny second of what this entire movie is made of.
- 1:27:17SPEAKER_01: Um, I was just like watching it, just like, oh my god, dollar signs, dollar signs, dollar signs, oh doesn't hold up, doesn't hold up, uh toxic masculinity, like oh cop, you know, this is glorifying cop, violent, like so well with all that.
- 1:27:32SPEAKER_01: I still was excited.
- 1:27:33SPEAKER_01: It was still exciting, yeah.
- 1:27:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:27:36SPEAKER_02: I was just gonna ask, here's something that I'm curious about that you might be able to answer.
- 1:27:41SPEAKER_02: Do you think a lot of the action was second unit?
- 1:27:45SPEAKER_02: Or do you think it was all Michael Bay?
- 1:27:48SPEAKER_01: That's a great question.
- 1:27:50SPEAKER_02: Um because, like you're saying, it's like so much to do.
- 1:27:53SPEAKER_01: I feel like a lot of it.
- 1:27:55SPEAKER_01: It had to have been.
- 1:27:56SPEAKER_01: It had to have been second unit because I and you know, I'd be curious.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_01: To know how over how long this whole film shot because if it was all one director, it would have taken a year to make this movie.
- 1:28:06SPEAKER_02: Maybe.
- 1:28:07SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna see if I can find it actually.
- 1:28:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:28:10SPEAKER_02: Because IMDB usually lists it.
- 1:28:12SPEAKER_02: But yeah, it's it's a lot of work.
- 1:28:16SPEAKER_02: And I guess that like maybe that's why I don't know if that's why story gets sacrificed with this this kind of thing.
- 1:28:23SPEAKER_01: It's it's like it's you mean because of because there's so much work going into the because there's so much to do.
- 1:28:37SPEAKER_01: Um it doesn't need to be like a couple extra little elements could have, I think, helped the story.
- 1:28:46SPEAKER_01: Um but it's it's so it's just so it's also it's just really racist against uh Latinos or Cubans in particular.
- 1:29:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:29:00SPEAKER_01: Um it's uh glorious it's so but it's like even now, like I'm looking, I opened, I just opened the Wikipedia page and I saw like the theatrical release posters on there, and it's exciting.
- 1:29:17SPEAKER_01: Like there's like all this stuff on fire behind them.
- 1:29:20SPEAKER_01: They're walking towards a camera.
- 1:29:21SPEAKER_01: Mike Martin Lawrence is pointing his gun at the camera, and I'm just like, that is cool, that is so cool.
- 1:29:29SPEAKER_01: And I don't want to feel like that, but I but like Will Smith looks hot as hell, and they just look cool, and I'm mad that I think that I always I forget how perfect Will Smith's skin is.
- 1:29:46SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'll stop.
- 1:29:47SPEAKER_02: Um I'm just reading a I got I got distracted by the uh TV series thing at the bot at the bottom of the Wikipedia page.
- 1:29:55SPEAKER_01: So it so it is.
- 1:29:58SPEAKER_02: So it says in October 2017, a spin-off uh series centered around Gabrielle Union's character was announced.
- 1:30:05SPEAKER_02: Uh then MBC Ordered the Pilot, uh, and then Jessica Albert got cast as well.
- 1:30:11SPEAKER_02: And the following month it was called LA's Finest.
- 1:30:14SPEAKER_02: Uh oh Jerry Bruckheimer.
- 1:30:17SPEAKER_02: Jerry Bruckheimer, NBC Pass on the Pilot, and it went to Speaker.
- 1:30:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, but then like Verizon picked it up or something.
- 1:30:23SPEAKER_01: It went to Sony Pictures.
- 1:30:25SPEAKER_01: Spectrum.
- 1:30:26SPEAKER_02: I don't know what Spectrum is.
- 1:30:27SPEAKER_01: So Spectrum is a cable company, basically.
- 1:30:31SPEAKER_01: Um and so it was like yeah, it was like we used to, I think it used to be Verizon.
- 1:30:37SPEAKER_01: So it was like Verizon Spectrum presents this show.
- 1:30:41SPEAKER_02: Um so it did go, it did end up being a spinoff of Bad Boys.
- 1:30:45SPEAKER_01: It did end up being made.
- 1:30:46SPEAKER_01: And I remember like being really sad that for Gabrielle Union when I saw she was in a show made by my cable company.
- 1:30:55SPEAKER_01: Um but now I now I see that it was like it went through NBC and all that.
- 1:31:00SPEAKER_01: But I do think that they made a second or third season, like it maybe got picked up by Hulu.
- 1:31:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it just got I think it's just coming back for the second one now.
- 1:31:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, interesting, interesting.
- 1:31:09SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, so let's let's move on to the final segment then, which is what we were discussing before this started, which was the um the reverse of that, which is do you have a movie that's uh well reviewed and loved that you think is actually a bad movie?
- 1:31:24SPEAKER_01: If you want to talk about it, I'll usually find something good in movies, but um there's this movie that came out.
- 1:31:30SPEAKER_01: My first thought when you asked me this earlier was this movie Trumbo that came out.
- 1:31:35SPEAKER_01: Uh that Brian Cranston is in, and he plays screenwriter Trumbo.
- 1:31:41SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:31:43SPEAKER_01: Dalton Trump Dalton Trumbo.
- 1:31:46SPEAKER_01: And I completely forgot that existed.
- 1:31:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it but it won like awards and stuff.
- 1:31:51SPEAKER_02: It did, yeah.
- 1:31:51SPEAKER_02: It won a lot, yeah.
- 1:31:52SPEAKER_01: Um I heard of course it's gonna get nominated and vote like when when Hollywood makes movies about Hollywood where Hollywood people are the heroes, people are like, that's me, I'm gonna be like him.
- 1:32:03SPEAKER_01: But I saw it and like there's just it's just not good.
- 1:32:12SPEAKER_01: Like part of it that one of the reasons I didn't like it was that they put Diane Lane in the I and she might have even been nominated for things, but Diane Lane who was so good, is just like nothing playing this role of the wife that like I call it like that man of mine wife, yeah.
- 1:32:28SPEAKER_01: Where there's so many scenes where she just stands in a doorway and looks at him and shakes her head, like that man of mine, like that's what I call that character.
- 1:32:36SPEAKER_01: But it just was so sanctimonious and like just screenwriters are the will save us.
- 1:32:42SPEAKER_01: Um so I I remember now I feel bad for saying all this, but I just remember watching it and just being like, no, we're not that important.
- 1:32:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, he was in terms of the blacklist and stuff like that, or being black blacklisted, but the movie I thought was not great.
- 1:33:01SPEAKER_02: I remember I saw that's fine.
- 1:33:03SPEAKER_02: Like you don't have to you don't have to like everything.
- 1:33:08SPEAKER_02: Um I I saw it at the um the London Film Festival, and uh I remember walking the red carpet to go in to see it because like you can buy tickets if you just anyone can buy tickets to go see it at the London Film Festival, but they still have the premiers and everything.
- 1:33:23SPEAKER_02: And so as I was walking the carpet, Brian Cranston came out the same time as me.
- 1:33:27SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 1:33:28SPEAKER_02: And I went to go get I was like running up to him to go get a picture, and his bodyguard was like not his bodyguard, but like the bodyguards there were like, nope, nope.
- 1:33:36SPEAKER_02: But he was ready to go like take a picture, he was like turning around.
- 1:33:39SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's nice.
- 1:33:40SPEAKER_02: He he seems like such a nice guy, but he I'm sure, yeah.
- 1:33:44SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, I guess he was at he hosted us and out when I was there.
- 1:33:47SPEAKER_01: Do you remember him being really nice?
- 1:33:49SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 1:33:50SPEAKER_01: I just remember like that movie making me really sad, but not for the reasons that I think it was supposed to.
- 1:33:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:33:58SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 1:33:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:33:59SPEAKER_02: Did you have did do you remember having much interaction with him there?
- 1:34:03SPEAKER_02: Um was it just like very brief?
- 1:34:05SPEAKER_01: I'm sure it was brief in the way that I mean, like, even if you get like not that are working on a sketch with them and that they're in a lot, he you know, it's all so fast.
- 1:34:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:34:15SPEAKER_01: Um yeah.
- 1:34:17SPEAKER_01: No, it was on his everyone what in my experience there is like everyone's on their best behavior.
- 1:34:23SPEAKER_01: Like people that that person bad or whatever.
- 1:34:26SPEAKER_01: It's like, no, everyone's on their best behavior because yeah, partially because like this is a really hard thing to do.
- 1:34:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they must be terrified being like the host.
- 1:34:36SPEAKER_01: And they want as much help as possible.
- 1:34:38SPEAKER_01: So at least in my experience, no one was ever like that mean or difficult.
- 1:34:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:34:45SPEAKER_02: But uh okay, so do you have any final thoughts you want to bring up about Bad Boys 2?
- 1:34:49SPEAKER_02: Anything that we missed?
- 1:34:51SPEAKER_01: Obviously, we already talked about the things that are that are bad about it.
- 1:34:55SPEAKER_01: Um, but it really for me, you know, all the stuff we're saying about like this is bad, this is you know not good, but that but it's exciting.
- 1:35:03SPEAKER_01: Like that is one of the things that I think is so cool about Hot Fuzz.
- 1:35:07SPEAKER_01: That it's just that like he just is this, you know, uh Nick Frost is this cop in this like small boring village, but he thinks he just thinks bad boys too is so cool.
- 1:35:20SPEAKER_01: And it's like um and the and the point break and stuff, but like there's things that are in Hot Fuzz that then I like watch, he's like punch that shit or whatever.
- 1:35:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and um I loved that they made it specific to Bad Boys 2, that he wasn't just like a cop that likes cops movies, he liked bad boys too specifically.
- 1:35:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and never seen bad boys too.
- 1:35:42SPEAKER_01: Never seen bad boys too, and then they recreate the shot at the end, like when the when like where they do something like that, yeah, yeah.
- 1:35:51SPEAKER_01: Um, and like it just gave me such an appreciation, like I just think it it made Hot Fuzz work so much more to have then have Nick Angel, like Nicholas Angel switch from like you know, good boy to bad boy.
- 1:36:08SPEAKER_01: Um man, I really want to watch Hot Fuzz again.
- 1:36:11SPEAKER_01: But even like now, like Hot Fuzz, like one of my favorite movies of all time, and now I'm like, oh okay, now let me like look at it through the lens of the cops, aren't necessarily great by any means.
- 1:36:24SPEAKER_01: But uh, but I I because I love Hot Fuzz, I have to love Bad Boys 2, you know.
- 1:36:32SPEAKER_01: I think that's probably it.
- 1:36:33SPEAKER_02: Do you love do you also love Point Bright?
- 1:36:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know it as well, but of course, love it.
- 1:36:39SPEAKER_01: It it's such a weird thing to love as a woman to love these movies that are so, so, so sexist in so many ways.
- 1:36:50SPEAKER_01: Even when there's like a badass female character, quote unquote, million quotes and million unquotes, it there's it's so sexist, all the things about it.
- 1:37:00SPEAKER_01: So um it's kind of a thing where like if I had a kid, like I do think it's like exciting to like go back and like watch these movies or just like encourage younger people to watch these movies.
- 1:37:11SPEAKER_01: But there's like a lot of stuff that like you really even now, it's like look going back and watching this movie, it's just like I've had all these years of like education and reflection and like societal critique that I've done and written about and stuff that I need as like fortifiers to watch these movies to still not be like taken in by the the bad parts of it or like the the so like um when people like it's a strange thing when people can appreciate bad movies or movies that are you know not necessarily advancing us forward as a culture, like it's you really ho wonder like how much of it are are they really also I mean you see it in your is in your podcast, like really saying like I'm looking at this from like a 360 perspective with like all this, but then other people are just like guns, nice, um, which is not good.
- 1:38:12SPEAKER_01: So I don't know, I'm talking too much.
- 1:38:15SPEAKER_01: So nice, I'm glad I got to watch it again.
- 1:38:17SPEAKER_01: So thank you for that.
- 1:38:18SPEAKER_02: I'm glad I'm glad you did.
- 1:38:19SPEAKER_02: I'm glad you picked it as well because like I I hadn't seen it in so long.
- 1:38:23SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, thanks so much for doing this.
- 1:38:26SPEAKER_02: Um how can we find you online?
- 1:38:28SPEAKER_02: And do you have anything you want to plug at the moment?
- 1:38:30SPEAKER_01: My pleasure.
- 1:38:31SPEAKER_01: Uh I am uh on Twitter at Nanglish.
- 1:38:36SPEAKER_01: And no, I don't have anything to plug, but I do always recommend people watch Astronomy Club on Netflix.
- 1:38:44SPEAKER_01: It's a sketch show.
- 1:38:45SPEAKER_01: And um it I'm very sad we only got one season, but it's it's really funny and uh I was involved in a little bit, but I had James on this, uh James III on what did he what did James III do?
- 1:38:57SPEAKER_02: He did last action hero.
- 1:38:59SPEAKER_01: And that makes so much sense.
- 1:39:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:39:01SPEAKER_01: That makes so much sense.
- 1:39:02SPEAKER_02: And then I also had Ray Kashanka on here, and she did um who was one of the writers on it, and she did um Fools Rush In.
- 1:39:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's nice.
- 1:39:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:39:12SPEAKER_02: Those both fit.
- 1:39:13SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, so that's that's all I got.
- 1:39:17unknown: Nice.
- 1:39:17SPEAKER_02: Thanks so much for doing this, Christine.
- 1:39:19SPEAKER_01: You're welcome.
- 1:39:20SPEAKER_02: That's the end of the podcast.
