- Brad Peters: Welcome to the Recipe for Results. This is your podcast extra for certification in the hotel, restaurant, and bar industry, brought to you by HRB Universal. This is the brief on the Spanish Fort Surf Safe Food Protection Manager certification. The FDA food code literally requires a certified food protection manager to be on duty whenever food is being prepared. And this ANSI-accredited course by HRB Universal is exactly how you check that massive regulatory box. First, they're hosting an in-person course and exam on August 14th, 2026 at their training center in Spanish Ford, Alabama. The day starts with an 8:30 AM check-in, followed by a lecture, lunch, and the test. Tickets are $129 for just the exam or $179 for the whole package. Now that you know when and where, you gotta know how to pass, which brings us to the catch. Second, the morning lecture is only a four-hour fast-paced review. You'll get training portal access upon registration because mandatory self-study is required before you arrive. Wait, is four hours really enough time to master the entire FDA food code? Absolutely not. Think of this morning session as a pregame warm-up, not the whole practice. You literally have to do the self-study beforehand. Once you've done the homework, you're ready for the main event. Finally, the exam kicks off at 2 p.m. It's fully electronic, so bring your own device or they'll provide an Amazon Fire tablet. It's available in English, Spanish, Chinese, and French Canadian, but paper exams do require 20 days' notice. To stay updated, download the HRB Universal app, visit HRBuni.com or text 855-447-2864. Go book your ticket, put in the study time beforehand, and get that essential food safety credential locked down for your business.
