- 0:10Speaker 2: I choose chill Man the Mariners. That was the most
- 0:14Speaker 2: inexplicable win of a pretty frustrating season last night at
- 0:18Speaker 2: Dodger Stadium, a wild seven to sixth victory. They beat
- 0:22Speaker 2: a left hand. Not only they beat a left hand
- 0:24Speaker 2: and they hit five home runs off left handed pitching.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Oh how about that?
- 0:28Speaker 2: That was wild? And Dominic Canzone what can you say? Here?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Was the second of his two home runs, drilled out
- 0:40Speaker 2: to center. Does he have another? Don Ken Zone?
- 0:47Speaker 4: His second home run tonight haside Dodger Stadium. It's another
- 0:57Speaker 4: against a lefty in the Mariner take a seven five lead.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Then Andres Munos came in, gave up a double that
- 1:08Speaker 2: became a triple with Victor Robots a defensive substitution. Four.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Can Zone actually threw the ball out of his glove
- 1:16Speaker 2: on the warning track and allowed show, Hey old Tony,
- 1:17Speaker 2: you get the third. I thought he was going to
- 1:19Speaker 2: score an inside the parker.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Well everyone did, and they said that they were protecting him.
- 1:23Speaker 2: The bad knee. I thought he was going to score
- 1:25Speaker 2: on the chopper to handcuffed Josh Navia at first base two,
- 1:28Speaker 2: but Otani stayed so runner third, nobody out, holding a
- 1:33Speaker 2: seven to six lead, Andre's Munos closed it out. Let
- 1:37Speaker 2: you do a one run lead on the ground. JP
- 1:40Speaker 2: Crawfords got it on the first base. Gut checked. Kind
- 1:44Speaker 2: of win for the Mariners. One of the very best
- 1:47Speaker 2: of the year. Put this at the top of the list.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Seven to six. The Mariners take Game one in La.
- 1:54Speaker 5: What an amazing job by Munos to get out of
- 1:57Speaker 5: that situation, tying run on third base, one out and
- 2:02Speaker 5: he gets the job done and closes this one out.
- 2:05Speaker 5: Ends a twelve game losing streak against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
- 2:09Speaker 2: They start this series off on the right foot. Day
- 2:12Speaker 2: Valley there Aaron Goldsmith before him on play by play
- 2:15Speaker 2: on Mariners TV. Actually Dave Valley shortened andres Munnos's escape.
- 2:19Speaker 2: It was nobody out in the runner at third in
- 2:21Speaker 2: a one run game. He got out of it. Mariners win,
- 2:25Speaker 2: stay two and a half behind the Rangers. But more importantly,
- 2:28Speaker 2: they beat the world champion Dodgers on their home field,
- 2:30Speaker 2: beating a left handed batter. We'll talk a lot more
- 2:33Speaker 2: about this.
- 2:33Speaker 3: They had a twelve game losing streak to the Dodgers. Yes,
- 2:37Speaker 3: but like, who would think that a get right game
- 2:39Speaker 3: would be against the Dodgers.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yeah, that was their first win in Dodger Stadium since
- 2:43Speaker 2: two thousand and nine. You know who the cleanup pitter
- 2:46Speaker 2: that night was for the Mariners, Ken Griffy Junior. That's
- 2:50Speaker 2: how long ago it was that they beat Dodgers, the
- 2:52Speaker 2: Dodgers in Dodgers State. Oh my god, yeah, exactly. Emerson
- 2:55Speaker 2: Hancock go pitched tonight, subject of trade rumors. Emerson Hancock's
- 2:59Speaker 2: on the mounds seven ten, first pitch against the Dodgers.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Eric Lauer, they'll be on Mariners TV again. Seahawks Day
- 3:05Speaker 2: four of training camp yesterday noteworthy because of a few things. One,
- 3:11Speaker 2: we're gonna talk about what Leonard Williams said about his
- 3:13Speaker 2: contract situation. I asked him about it. You'll hear from
- 3:15Speaker 2: that in a minute. Jake Bobo did not practice yesterday.
- 3:18Speaker 2: He has a leg injury that I've been told might
- 3:21Speaker 2: be a hamstring issue. Bud Clark sure wants to be
- 3:23Speaker 2: on hard knocks. We'll talk about that as well. Coming
- 3:26Speaker 2: up Seahawks are off from no practice in the field today.
- 3:29Speaker 2: They're a training camp, but they're not on the field.
- 3:30Speaker 2: CBA mandates every five days you come off the field.
- 3:34Speaker 2: The Seattle Storm they hosted the Caitlin Clark Indiana Fever
- 3:38Speaker 2: Show last night at Climate Pridge Arena and lost one
- 3:40Speaker 2: oh five ninety five. Clark once again thirty two points,
- 3:44Speaker 2: four rebound, seven assists, her ninth career thirty point five
- 3:49Speaker 2: assist game. Natasha Heidman knocked down thirty three points for Seattle,
- 3:53Speaker 2: adding six rebounds and four assists, but they lost one
- 3:56Speaker 2: oh five ninety five. That's a high scoring game for
- 3:58Speaker 2: the Storm to still lose. San Francisco forty nine Ers
- 4:01Speaker 2: head coach Kyle Shanahan publicly discussed his July fourteenth car
- 4:05Speaker 2: accident in the Bay Area, contradicting police reports on the
- 4:08Speaker 2: cause of the craft that pointed the blame to the
- 4:11Speaker 2: other driver, He said, no, it was his fault that
- 4:14Speaker 2: a cell phone had dropped down below the console of
- 4:17Speaker 2: his car and he was reaching down ford and drifted
- 4:19Speaker 2: into the other person's landing suffered really bad injuries. According
- 4:23Speaker 2: reportedly best friend of his, Chris Simpson, he almost lost
- 4:26Speaker 2: his eyesight in one of his eyes. He's still not coaching.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Chris Forrester is the interim coach for the forty nine ers.
- 4:32Speaker 2: And then other NFL news, the Brown signed Denzel Ward,
- 4:35Speaker 2: the cornerback, to a two year extension words sixty two
- 4:37Speaker 2: point two million. Why am I saying that? Because Devin
- 4:40Speaker 2: Witherspoon and his agent sure noticed that.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Of course they did.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Denzel Ward is now the highest paid cornerback in the
- 4:46Speaker 2: NFL at thirty one point one million, which means Devin
- 4:49Speaker 2: Witherspoon's price tag may have just gone up to thirty
- 4:51Speaker 2: one point two million, which means Christian Gonzalez's contract with
- 4:54Speaker 2: New England maybe thirty one point three million, or vice versa.
- 4:57Speaker 2: That's why the Devin Witherspoon deal hasn't done yet. Now
- 4:59Speaker 2: on at the Wednesday Show, Good Morning, Happy Wednesday, Back
- 5:02Speaker 2: in the Studio with Jessman McIntyre on Elliott Bay here
- 5:05Speaker 2: and see I also joined by a special guest. Zach
- 5:07Speaker 2: McFarlane is a undergraduate still at Washington State University's Morrow
- 5:12Speaker 2: School of Communication. He wants to go into play by
- 5:14Speaker 2: play sports broadcasting. Thanks for dropping by, Zach.
- 5:18Speaker 6: And thank you for having me and go Kook's go cook.
- 5:21Speaker 2: The cooks are everywhere in here. We're the home of
- 5:22Speaker 2: the Huskies, and we've got the pride more, we've got
- 5:26Speaker 2: Jessman McIntyre. We've got now Zach McFarlane Ian for ness
- 5:29Speaker 2: for nessil being here at eleven forty five, and.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Other cooks all over the place. You know why because
- 5:34Speaker 3: the Morrow School breeds them.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that's true. Zach went to Kennedy Catholic High
- 5:39Speaker 2: School down in Burien, so he's a West of the
- 5:42Speaker 2: Mountains guy, as much of Washington State is. I've learned
- 5:45Speaker 2: that when my son went there. Yeah, love Pullman. Glad
- 5:48Speaker 2: to have Zach. Glad he dropped by. Hey you got
- 5:51Speaker 2: a chance to win a thousand dollars on our sports
- 5:53Speaker 2: radio ninety three point three FM Bonus Bucks Contest presented
- 5:57Speaker 2: by Bellevue Rare Coins. We do it every hour weekday,
- 6:01Speaker 2: six am through six pm. Jessamine this hour.
- 6:05Speaker 3: The word is green, as in get that green into
- 6:08Speaker 3: your bank account. That is the ten am word, and
- 6:10Speaker 3: we will be giving you one every hour throughout the day.
- 6:13Speaker 3: But today July twenty ninth, at ten am.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Green g R E E N. If you need spelling
- 6:21Speaker 2: on that.
- 6:22Speaker 3: No, don't teach people that know. If they don't know,
- 6:24Speaker 3: they don't.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Deserve it if they didn't know it. On the show today,
- 6:30Speaker 2: that was so inexplicable last night that Dodger's Mariner's game.
- 6:36Speaker 2: I was running out. I was supposed to go somewhere else.
- 6:38Speaker 2: I was writing his Mariners stories, and then I started
- 6:40Speaker 2: watching a game I was supposed to go somewhere, and
- 6:41Speaker 2: my wife was like, you come in. I got to
- 6:43Speaker 2: see how this ends. Dominic Canzone. We'll talk about him.
- 6:48Speaker 2: That was a time not too long ago. He wouldn't
- 6:50Speaker 2: even been starting last night because they facing a left
- 6:52Speaker 2: handed pitcher. The damn iPad analytics left right handedness thing.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Thank goodness, they've at least paused on some of that
- 7:03Speaker 2: or else. Dominic Canzone and even been in the lineup
- 7:05Speaker 2: last night to hit two home runs off a left tender.
- 7:08Speaker 2: We'll talk about what I saw and learned on the
- 7:10Speaker 2: fourth day yesterday of Seahawks training camp, including Jalen Milroe.
- 7:14Speaker 2: As sharp as he's been in the two training camps
- 7:16Speaker 2: i've watched him as a Seahawks quarterback third round pick
- 7:18Speaker 2: from last year ten twenty five. We're gonna talk about
- 7:22Speaker 2: two things one. Leonard Williams talked yesterday about his contract
- 7:25Speaker 2: ending after this coming season, and I just asked him
- 7:29Speaker 2: point blank as the team talked to you about an extension.
- 7:31Speaker 2: You'll hear what Leonard Williams said to that, and then
- 7:34Speaker 2: you're here from Sam Darnold, the Super Bowl winning quarterback.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Of course, he was on with Dave Softie Maler and
- 7:39Speaker 2: Hugh Mellen yesterday from the edge of the field right
- 7:42Speaker 2: after practice. I stood in and listened to that conversation,
- 7:44Speaker 2: and he had a couple interesting things to say. So good.
- 7:47Speaker 3: He loved that kid man.
- 7:48Speaker 2: He was much more open and glib yesterday with those
- 7:52Speaker 2: guys than he ever is at the podium with us,
- 7:54Speaker 2: and that's why I thought it was worth reair. And
- 7:56Speaker 2: a couple of the things, including how much he appreciated
- 7:59Speaker 2: Ernest Jones for what he did at Inglewood. After the
- 8:01Speaker 2: four interception game, Darnold had twenty one to nineteen lost,
- 8:04Speaker 2: the last loss of the season for the Seahawks, as
- 8:07Speaker 2: it turned out. You'll hear from Sam Darnold about ten
- 8:10Speaker 2: thirty or so at eleven o'clock. I'm going to sit
- 8:12Speaker 2: down with Riley Mills, second year defensive lineman. He really
- 8:15Speaker 2: looks good in this training camp reconstructive knee surgery. He
- 8:19Speaker 2: ended his Notre Dame season in the College Football Playoff
- 8:22Speaker 2: January of twenty twenty five. He missed all but the
- 8:25Speaker 2: very end of the Seahawks season, then came on and
- 8:28Speaker 2: had his first career sack in the Super Bowl. He
- 8:30Speaker 2: has a really good story, he told Justman and me, Oh.
- 8:32Speaker 3: My gosh, I can't wait for people to hear it.
- 8:35Speaker 2: I had written it to day he was drafted. I
- 8:37Speaker 2: had learned that he how he got from the operating
- 8:41Speaker 2: table reconstructive knee surgery to the Orange Bowl within days.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Now that's South Bend, Indiana to Miami. Go ahead and
- 8:49Speaker 2: look on a map and see how far that is.
- 8:51Speaker 2: And Riley Mills is going to tell you at eleven
- 8:52Speaker 2: o'clock how he got there because he wasn't allowed to fly.
- 8:56Speaker 2: You'll hear that at eleven o'clock eleven thirty. Your text
- 8:59Speaker 2: and talkbacks tech talkbacks is what Jessamin McIntyre major's in.
- 9:03Speaker 3: I love your voices and I want them on our
- 9:06Speaker 3: ear So please give us those talkbacks because I love
- 9:10Speaker 3: listening to them. And if you have self editing, you
- 9:12Speaker 3: can say f please don't say the other one because
- 9:15Speaker 3: then I have to edit it. But yeah, I love
- 9:18Speaker 3: hearing your voices. Please send them in.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Where do you go for that? While? You go to
- 9:21Speaker 2: the iHeartRadio app, which you can download for free. If
- 9:23Speaker 2: I'm done it already. If you haven't, shame on you
- 9:25Speaker 2: go to ninety three to three KJR or ninety three
- 9:28Speaker 2: kjr dot com. At the very top of our website
- 9:31Speaker 2: is the red microphone button. Had that microphone button, they
- 9:33Speaker 2: gave a thirty second voicemail message or shorter and we'll
- 9:36Speaker 2: play it back at eleven thirty. Well, so read back
- 9:38Speaker 2: your text at four nine four or five one on
- 9:40Speaker 2: the Dakoma Dodge tech side. First question I have is
- 9:43Speaker 2: what was your favorite or funniest or most enjoyable part
- 9:47Speaker 2: of that epic Mariners win last I It was a
- 9:49Speaker 2: regular season game one on one sixty two, But how
- 9:52Speaker 2: improbable that was with the left handed pitching the defending
- 9:55Speaker 2: world champs the doninic Kenzon wouldn't even have been in
- 9:58Speaker 2: the lineup if they kept doing that handedness thing on
- 10:01Speaker 2: and on? What was your favorite part of last night's game?
- 10:05Speaker 2: Was it can zone? He became the first left handed
- 10:08Speaker 2: Mariner to hit two home runs off two different left
- 10:11Speaker 2: handed pitchers in a game since Robinson Cano ten years ago.
- 10:16Speaker 3: That's insane.
- 10:17Speaker 2: All these things I pulled out, all these names, I'm like, yeah, exactly,
- 10:21Speaker 2: That's how inexplicable the game was. Aaron Goldsmith said most
- 10:23Speaker 2: of these last night during the game. But I think
- 10:27Speaker 2: the most encouraging aspect of last night's game was the
- 10:29Speaker 2: Mariners are slowly evolving from that iPad analytics driven handed
- 10:35Speaker 2: left versus right.
- 10:36Speaker 3: What just hasn't worked out? So why not try something different?
- 10:39Speaker 2: You know what? Else was amazing and inexplicable. Rob Refschneider
- 10:43Speaker 2: bat in one thirty homering and doubling.
- 10:49Speaker 7: I guess the.
- 10:49Speaker 2: First game off the injured list, the one thirty resh
- 10:53Speaker 2: nighter has two extra base hits in a game. I mean,
- 10:56Speaker 2: the whole thing was just off the hook. Crazy. Our
- 10:59Speaker 2: pal Bucket Jacobson, you remember him. He pointed out that
- 11:02Speaker 2: a month ago Kenzon wouldn't even have been in that
- 11:04Speaker 2: game because he was platooning and starting only against right
- 11:06Speaker 2: handed pitchers. Now he's the everyday third or fourth aright.
- 11:09Speaker 2: He was cleaning up last night. He was in Texas
- 11:11Speaker 2: this past weekend. Was the three hitter and he's bombing
- 11:14Speaker 2: home runs off left handers two lefties won to tie
- 11:17Speaker 2: the game in the sixth, and in his home run
- 11:20Speaker 2: to win it in the eighth. That home run the
- 11:21Speaker 2: eighth when he just it wasn't even a bat flip,
- 11:23Speaker 2: he just dropped it.
- 11:24Speaker 3: And that was pretty good. That was very canzone.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Yes, it was.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Andros Muno's coming in. He's been lights out lately and
- 11:35Speaker 2: he was up against it last night. That might have
- 11:37Speaker 2: been some people's favorite. Four nine, four to five one.
- 11:39Speaker 2: If you want to talk about Andres Munnos, I think
- 11:41Speaker 2: it's nineteen consecutive innings now scoreless. He was throwing one
- 11:45Speaker 2: hundred and three miles an hour last night. I don't
- 11:47Speaker 2: know if I've ever seen him throw one oh three
- 11:50Speaker 2: and he was repeatedly one o two, one oh three
- 11:52Speaker 2: on his fastballs. He's slider got him in trouble a
- 11:54Speaker 2: little bit there, walked about her, but with the ground
- 11:57Speaker 2: ball to end the game, as you heard Aaron Goldsmith
- 11:59Speaker 2: talking about. But for me, my favorite part of the
- 12:01Speaker 2: game last night, Jessamine, did you watch it? By the way,
- 12:04Speaker 2: I did?
- 12:05Speaker 3: I say, what was your actually when they won was
- 12:09Speaker 3: my favorite part? No, it was the canzone. I'm sorry
- 12:12Speaker 3: when he he did it was not a flip just
- 12:15Speaker 3: like you said, but the way he just said yeah.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Exactly, he just disposed, Yeah, I.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Don't need this anymore. I know that's out.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:24Speaker 3: That was my favorite part, just because one I was
- 12:27Speaker 3: I like to see I love that kid, and I
- 12:30Speaker 3: like talking to him in the clubhouse when I'm down
- 12:32Speaker 3: there and everything. He's super nice and I think he's
- 12:35Speaker 3: understated when it comes to what he is to this team,
- 12:39Speaker 3: and so to see him produce like that, like all
- 12:42Speaker 3: the things he were saying. They were up against in
- 12:44Speaker 3: the home of the defending world champions and Okay, they
- 12:48Speaker 3: come off of a couple series where they could have
- 12:50Speaker 3: taken a few that they didn't. They go into that
- 12:54Speaker 3: house and win like that.
- 12:56Speaker 2: That was cool.
- 12:57Speaker 3: And then you know he wasn't a jerk about it. No, No,
- 13:00Speaker 3: it was not like this huge showmanship. But watching him
- 13:04Speaker 3: do that, I was like, a I literally did that
- 13:07Speaker 3: in front of my husband.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Yes, that was Jessman's favorite part. Marinon has had five
- 13:11Speaker 2: home runs last night, all off left handed pitching in
- 13:14Speaker 2: the game for the first time since May second of
- 13:16Speaker 2: two thousand and two. I'm gonna throw some more names
- 13:20Speaker 2: at you. Mike Cameron hit three home runs that night
- 13:22Speaker 2: off left. He's Brett Boone and Jeff Cirillo hit the others. Stop,
- 13:27Speaker 2: I'm just trying. I'm trying to underscore how crazy last
- 13:30Speaker 2: night was. Twenty four years ago was the last time
- 13:32Speaker 2: we saw something like this. My favorite part was when
- 13:38Speaker 2: the Dodgers got the leadoff guy in the bottom of
- 13:40Speaker 2: the night seven to five game and then O'tani, as
- 13:43Speaker 2: only he can, he had a pitch on the outside
- 13:45Speaker 2: part of the plate, drilled it to the right center
- 13:47Speaker 2: field gap so hard it rolled through the outfielders to
- 13:50Speaker 2: the wall. One of those outfitters, Victor Roeblaz had just
- 13:53Speaker 2: come in as a defensive replacement for Dominic Canzone. Well,
- 13:59Speaker 2: I don't know why Julio Rodriguez didn't pick up the
- 14:03Speaker 2: ball the centerfielder, but they were both standing on the track.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Roa Bas picks the ball up and then he throws
- 14:07Speaker 2: it out of his glove backwards. I mean, it was
- 14:10Speaker 2: like a bugs Bunny cartoon. You never see that in
- 14:13Speaker 2: the Majorgue.
- 14:14Speaker 3: My son, I couldn't.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I could not believe was like Benny Hills. It was.
- 14:22Speaker 2: It was just ridiculous. The ball rolled like twenty yards away.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I thought, here comes Otani, He's going to score on
- 14:28Speaker 2: this and they're going to tie the game because Roadblace
- 14:30Speaker 2: just threw the ball out of his club on the
- 14:32Speaker 2: warning track. Well, Otani does have a bum knee, and
- 14:36Speaker 2: the smart play there is to pull up at third
- 14:38Speaker 2: because you had to. You're the tying run at third
- 14:40Speaker 2: base with nobody out. Oh yeah, and you got you
- 14:43Speaker 2: got Freddy Freeman and Max munci and Mookie Betts coming up.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Of course you stopped there. You don't risk the out, So.
- 14:51Speaker 3: He stops at third further injury that too.
- 14:54Speaker 2: But in the heat of the moment, your third base
- 14:56Speaker 2: coach is telling you to stop there, even if he
- 14:57Speaker 2: thinks you might be able to score, because you have
- 14:59Speaker 2: three chances score from third with three of the best
- 15:02Speaker 2: hitters in the game. So of course he stopped. And
- 15:04Speaker 2: that's what Munos was facing, Freeman, Muncie and Mookie Bets.
- 15:10Speaker 2: I mean, come on, Mookie Bets batting fifth. What kind
- 15:12Speaker 2: of lineup do you have when Mookie Bets is hitting fifth?
- 15:15Speaker 2: So anyway, Otani doesn't score. The absolutely bugs bunny play
- 15:20Speaker 2: by Roadblaze out there. That was my son and I
- 15:23Speaker 2: were just cracking up at that play.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Well, I just was like, this is the beginning of
- 15:27Speaker 3: the end, that's for sure.
- 15:30Speaker 2: And then I also thought Otani was going to score
- 15:32Speaker 2: on the high chopper to Naylor at first base, and
- 15:35Speaker 2: he would have scored, especially how that ball handcuffed Naylor.
- 15:38Speaker 2: He kind of caught it inside his wrist in his stomach.
- 15:42Speaker 2: But again, Otani's knees not the greatest, so he held
- 15:45Speaker 2: up there and that the Mariner's got a break there
- 15:47Speaker 2: for the out, and then the Mariners get the ground
- 15:49Speaker 2: ball to short to end the game off of Mookie Bets.
- 15:52Speaker 2: And wow, yeah, that was my favorite part four nine
- 15:55Speaker 2: four five one. What was your favorite part of I mean,
- 15:59Speaker 2: it's good to enjoy baseball once in a while instead
- 16:01Speaker 2: of just gnashing our teeth over the Mariners.
- 16:03Speaker 3: I thought it was a fun game.
- 16:04Speaker 2: It was a nail bier, it was, but it sure
- 16:08Speaker 2: was fun. It really was.
- 16:10Speaker 3: It was. And also Day one, that's kind of the
- 16:13Speaker 3: underscore I take from that is that they came away
- 16:16Speaker 3: with a win, and they do need wins, but I
- 16:18Speaker 3: think a lot of us chalked up this series as
- 16:21Speaker 3: probably not gonna win.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Zach McFarland w shu. Are you a baseball guy.
- 16:26Speaker 6: I have definitely beginning into it a little more recently.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Watched a game last night.
- 16:29Speaker 6: I did not watch the game last night.
- 16:30Speaker 2: We'll move on. That's fine. You're a football guy too, right, Okay,
- 16:35Speaker 2: so we'll talk about football next. We're gonna talk about
- 16:38Speaker 2: the Seahawks. You're in here from Leonard Williams the latest
- 16:40Speaker 2: on his contract situation. Yes, they have talked the Seahawks
- 16:43Speaker 2: and Williams. And you'll hear from Sam Darnold. His conversation
- 16:46Speaker 2: yesterday with Dave Softy Maller and Hugh Mellon had two
- 16:48Speaker 2: really interesting points among many. You'll hear from those two.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Next eleven o'clock, Riley Mills sits down with me to
- 16:55Speaker 2: talk about his journey from his reconstructive knee surgery that
- 16:58Speaker 2: cost me most of last season. But man, is he
- 17:00Speaker 2: good in training camp. All that's coming up on ninety
- 17:02Speaker 2: three point three KJRFM. Welcome back Greg Bell, Jessman McIntyre,
- 17:26Speaker 2: WSU Murrow School of Communications, Zach McFarlane from Kennedy Catholic
- 17:30Speaker 2: High School in Bury and joining us as well here
- 17:32Speaker 2: on ninety three point three KJRFMS. Actually doing a little
- 17:34Speaker 2: shadow deal. I figured, instead of just walking around the building,
- 17:38Speaker 2: why don't you just come in and sit in on
- 17:39Speaker 2: the show. So he's sitting here with us. Glad to
- 17:42Speaker 2: have you, Zach, thank you, it's been awesome thanks to
- 17:45Speaker 2: the He graduates next May from Washington State. Yesterday at
- 17:49Speaker 2: Seahawks practice practice number four, I'll tell you a little
- 17:53Speaker 2: bit later about what was Nowordy on the field? Was
- 17:55Speaker 2: Noordy off the field? After practice? Was Leonard Wllliams talking
- 17:59Speaker 2: about his contract situation. He's thirty one, He's entering his
- 18:02Speaker 2: twelfth year. Of course the Pro Bowl, versatile up and
- 18:06Speaker 2: down the defensive line, start for the Seahawks, thirty one
- 18:09Speaker 2: years old. He's in his twelve entering his twelfth season.
- 18:13Speaker 2: He was married a year ago. They is wife. He
- 18:15Speaker 2: and his wife, Hayley, just had a baby this passed
- 18:19Speaker 2: off season. So his life has changed in the last
- 18:21Speaker 2: year of the year plause and he frankly, when I
- 18:24Speaker 2: talked to him, it seems like he's thinking more globally
- 18:27Speaker 2: and more of real life stuff and family stuff than
- 18:29Speaker 2: just football all the time. So we talked about his
- 18:32Speaker 2: contract situation yesterday, and I asked him if the Seahawks
- 18:36Speaker 2: have actually spoken to him about it. Here's what he said.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Has the team talked to you at all about that
- 18:40Speaker 2: or said we're just going to table that for after
- 18:42Speaker 2: they've mentioned it or brought it up at all.
- 18:44Speaker 8: I mean there's been been a few conversations, but nothing said.
- 18:47Speaker 8: And so you know, I think we're I think we're
- 18:50Speaker 8: all focused on you know, the season starting right now,
- 18:52Speaker 8: and you know we know that that's towards the end
- 18:54Speaker 8: of the season. We have time to figure that.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Out from the time time translation, We're going to wait.
- 19:01Speaker 2: The Seahawks would rather wait too, because they want to
- 19:03Speaker 2: see first if he stays injury free and during aage
- 19:07Speaker 2: thirty two coming up. But also does Williams still want
- 19:10Speaker 2: to do this for a more time? He talked last
- 19:12Speaker 2: year in December. He was going on about Klais Campbell
- 19:15Speaker 2: for Arizona playing his eighteenth season as a defensive lineman. Yeah,
- 19:19Speaker 2: and he chuckled. Williams did in December and said, I
- 19:22Speaker 2: don't know about that. I don't think I could do six, seven, eight,
- 19:25Speaker 2: ten more of the years of this. And I asked
- 19:28Speaker 2: him then and he said, I don't know. I still
- 19:30Speaker 2: am feeling good and I still like to do this,
- 19:32Speaker 2: but you could tell. I mean, those of you out
- 19:35Speaker 2: here out there are spouses, married and have children newly
- 19:38Speaker 2: children within the last year. You know how your life
- 19:40Speaker 2: perspective changes all of a sudden, things become a little
- 19:42Speaker 2: more important than just what maybe your day job is,
- 19:45Speaker 2: and especially quality of life issues such as playing football
- 19:49Speaker 2: for a living. And I sensed that Williams is taking
- 19:52Speaker 2: stock of all of that. So he, I think, wants
- 19:55Speaker 2: to wait, and the Seahawks want to wait because they
- 19:57Speaker 2: don't want to splash him with a huge contract extension wow,
- 20:00Speaker 2: as they typically do going into the final year of
- 20:02Speaker 2: their foundational players in case things do change, either for
- 20:06Speaker 2: Williams or his productivity or whether he wants to continue
- 20:08Speaker 2: to do it whatever, So they're gonna wait instead of
- 20:12Speaker 2: doing it in the year going into this final year
- 20:14Speaker 2: of his deal. It appears. And then if you listen
- 20:17Speaker 2: and take Williams at his word, and he usually is
- 20:19Speaker 2: a frank speaking guy, I think they are gonna wait.
- 20:22Speaker 2: And I think I thought all along they were gonna
- 20:24Speaker 2: wait and not fit him into the normal get him
- 20:26Speaker 2: a deal going into final year of his deal. And
- 20:28Speaker 2: by the way, he has the second highest salary cap
- 20:30Speaker 2: charge on the Seahawks at twenty six plus million, second
- 20:33Speaker 2: only to Sam Darnald at thirty nine million in the
- 20:37Speaker 2: second year of his three year deal. This time next year,
- 20:39Speaker 2: we're going to have a talk about Sam Darnald getting
- 20:41Speaker 2: a new deal because he'll be entering the final year
- 20:43Speaker 2: his deal at age twenty nine. Having been a Super
- 20:45Speaker 2: Bowl champion.
- 20:46Speaker 3: There's a lot of decisions, yeah, will have to be made.
- 20:49Speaker 2: But fortunately for the Seahawks in the NFL, they print
- 20:51Speaker 2: money and so the salary cap goes up year over year.
- 20:54Speaker 2: So it's gonna go from three oh one three hundre
- 20:56Speaker 2: one million this year probably to three ten or three
- 20:58Speaker 2: fifteen or whatever.
- 20:59Speaker 3: It's not that much. There's a lot of big deals
- 21:01Speaker 3: coming up. There are, there are for sure, and we
- 21:03Speaker 3: always see attrition due to, you know, greatness when it
- 21:08Speaker 3: comes to Super Bowl chains.
- 21:09Speaker 2: And we did in this offseason Relatively to some of the.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Team it was pretty good. Eighty six biggest one.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Yeah, eighty six percent of their snaps are back, though,
- 21:19Speaker 2: and that's really hard to do. Forty eight to forty
- 21:22Speaker 2: nine of their fifty three regulars are back. I mean,
- 21:25Speaker 2: they only lost Dreik Young and Darik Wollen, Khalie Bryant,
- 21:30Speaker 2: Kenneth Walker, the big one of course. Yeah, they didn't
- 21:34Speaker 2: have the mass exit or guys getting re up for
- 21:36Speaker 2: big money as a lot of Super Bowl champions.
- 21:38Speaker 3: Do I remember what the percentage was back in after
- 21:41Speaker 3: the twenty fourteenth Well it was technically the twenty thirteen season,
- 21:45Speaker 3: but the twenty fourteen Super.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Bowl I don't, but it wasn't either. It wasn't this high,
- 21:49Speaker 2: and they didn't return eighty six percent of their snaps.
- 21:51Speaker 3: I thought we saw a lot more exodus.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Yes, and off the top of my head, I can't
- 21:56Speaker 2: remember who left and got paid right away.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Bruno, I remember that one, and then the also the
- 22:04Speaker 3: Legion of Boom. We lost Maxie.
- 22:07Speaker 2: They all got paid after the first Super Bowl.
- 22:09Speaker 3: That's right, But those are bigger pieces than I think.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Besides Kenneth Walker, then we've lost. Obviously there were some core,
- 22:16Speaker 3: you know pieces, but not the big names.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Sam Darnold's gonna get his new deal next year. Yesterday
- 22:22Speaker 2: he was on right after practice at the field the
- 22:24Speaker 2: edge of the field with Dave, Softy, Maller and Humell,
- 22:26Speaker 2: and Softie asked him what's changed since the Super Bowl win?
- 22:29Speaker 2: For him.
- 22:30Speaker 9: How are people different, Like do you get noticed more often?
- 22:33Speaker 9: You get more phone calls for endorsements? How's that world
- 22:35Speaker 9: change for you?
- 22:36Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, it's you know, it's different that way.
- 22:39Speaker 11: I think getting recognized and you know, the endorsement deals
- 22:42Speaker 11: come in.
- 22:42Speaker 10: I think, you know, you just you gotta and I
- 22:47Speaker 10: think this was good, right.
- 22:48Speaker 11: It's like a good learning experiment because like I've gone
- 22:51Speaker 11: through a lot of you know, I got I went
- 22:53Speaker 11: through a lot of lows, you know, in the past
- 22:55Speaker 11: and especially early on in my career. Yeah, maybe not
- 22:57Speaker 11: having the success that I felt like I could have had,
- 23:00Speaker 11: And so I think you can look at it both ways, right,
- 23:04Speaker 11: It's like, you know, you don't have success, people write
- 23:07Speaker 11: you off and you don't listen to them, and you
- 23:10Speaker 11: keep working, and then all of a sudden, you have success.
- 23:13Speaker 11: People say you're the best, and they tell you how
- 23:15Speaker 11: good you are, and it's the same thing. You don't
- 23:16Speaker 11: listen to them. You keep working, you keep doing your
- 23:18Speaker 11: thing because at the end of the day, like that's
- 23:20Speaker 11: all you can do, you know, you just keep working.
- 23:22Speaker 11: Like for me, I'm just continuing to get better. Like
- 23:24Speaker 11: there were so many, so many examples of of you
- 23:28Speaker 11: know how I could have gotten better last year and
- 23:29Speaker 11: things that I didn't do well, you know, not that
- 23:32Speaker 11: I things that I can do better.
- 23:34Speaker 10: I think is a better way to say it.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Right.
- 23:36Speaker 11: There's always way ways to improve, and you know, I
- 23:39Speaker 11: was just focused on that, you know, this past offseason,
- 23:42Speaker 11: improving and continuing to you know, to sharpen you know,
- 23:46Speaker 11: all my tools that I got. So it's it's been
- 23:49Speaker 11: fun this offseason to be able to work on that
- 23:50Speaker 11: and be able to you know, spend time with my
- 23:52Speaker 11: teammates as well.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Well we want to hear some of those things.
- 23:54Speaker 12: But one final thought on you know, Steve Young when
- 23:57Speaker 12: he won that Super Bowl in ninety four, he famous,
- 24:00Speaker 12: you know that they said, oh, the gorilla is off
- 24:02Speaker 12: my back, you know, and and he had almost like
- 24:04Speaker 12: an exhale. Do you do you you know, people said
- 24:08Speaker 12: things with Sam Darnold can't win the big One, which
- 24:10Speaker 12: I about lost my mind about twenty five times, like.
- 24:13Speaker 10: Are you kidding me?
- 24:14Speaker 2: Well, do we want to go back to high school?
- 24:16Speaker 10: Usc?
- 24:17Speaker 12: You know, he's on the shoulders of teammates the vikings.
- 24:20Speaker 10: Do you think that wasn't a big game?
- 24:22Speaker 12: Like like like I thought it was nonsense, But you
- 24:24Speaker 12: heard it, people said it. Do you then have a
- 24:27Speaker 12: kind of an exhale feeling like, nah, I can put
- 24:30Speaker 12: those days behind me type of thing. Is there any
- 24:32Speaker 12: of that that that goes on?
- 24:34Speaker 11: Not really, I think, you know, And I think a
- 24:37Speaker 11: part of that too is like I didn't I didn't
- 24:40Speaker 11: think I played my best football in.
- 24:41Speaker 10: The Super Bowl. You know, you always dream.
- 24:43Speaker 11: I've said this a lot, but like you always dream
- 24:45Speaker 11: as a quarterback when you win the Super Bowl, you
- 24:46Speaker 11: want to throw for four hundred yards and you know,
- 24:49Speaker 11: have three or four touchdowns. So you know, I took
- 24:53Speaker 11: care of the football, which is first and foremost, like
- 24:54Speaker 11: that's my job. Take care of the football, marks the
- 24:56Speaker 11: team down the field, and do my job that way.
- 24:59Speaker 11: Especially with the way our d fence's role in that game,
- 25:01Speaker 11: you can kind of get a feel for that, and
- 25:02Speaker 11: so I just felt like it was my job to
- 25:04Speaker 11: protect the ball. But I felt like I could have
- 25:06Speaker 11: made a lot more throws. And that makes it a
- 25:08Speaker 11: lot easier to kind of put the Super Bowl in
- 25:11Speaker 11: the rear rear view mirror and just look forward and
- 25:15Speaker 11: continue to, like I said, look forward to this season
- 25:19Speaker 11: and continue to work and strive towards getting.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Better Sam Darnold, the Super Bowl winning quarterback for the Seahawks,
- 25:25Speaker 2: talking about how life has changed since he won the
- 25:28Speaker 2: Super Bowl talking to Dave Softy Maler and Hugh Millen
- 25:31Speaker 2: here on ninety three point three kids Our FM yesterday.
- 25:34Speaker 2: I thought it was interesting, he said, and he said
- 25:36Speaker 2: this a couple of times during the offseason, how it's
- 25:38Speaker 2: been easier for him to get past the Super Bowl
- 25:40Speaker 2: because he didn't play well in it. He didn't like
- 25:43Speaker 2: managing the game, and merely he understood that if he
- 25:45Speaker 2: didn't turn the ball over, they're going to win because
- 25:47Speaker 2: the Patriots were not moving the ball against the same
- 25:50Speaker 2: thing with the forty nine ers in the division, and
- 25:52Speaker 2: in Week eighteen, don't turn a ball over, six is
- 25:55Speaker 2: going to win because that was no way in hell
- 25:56Speaker 2: the forty nine ers or the Patriots going to drive
- 25:58Speaker 2: the field multiple times a score or touchdowns on that defense,
- 26:02Speaker 2: and that's what happened. But having said that, I remember
- 26:05Speaker 2: he talked about a throw he missed the Jackson Smith
- 26:07Speaker 2: and Jigba in the first quarters. I think he was
- 26:08Speaker 2: the second drive of the game in Super Bowl sixty.
- 26:11Speaker 2: It was an improv route that Smith and Jiggob broke
- 26:14Speaker 2: off and was running straight down the hashmark to the
- 26:16Speaker 2: end zone and Donald overshot him by a couple of yards.
- 26:20Speaker 2: It was throws like that that Donald really regretted, and
- 26:23Speaker 2: he said, I didn't play well, and he heard him
- 26:26Speaker 2: I dream about you dream about his growing up quarterback.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Four hundred yards, three or four touchdowns in a super Bowl.
- 26:31Speaker 2: He didn't have that, but he didn't have to, and
- 26:33Speaker 2: they still got the ring. But he wanted to play better,
- 26:35Speaker 2: so it motivated him. The chip on the shoulder we
- 26:38Speaker 2: always talk about pro athletes want to have. That's what
- 26:41Speaker 2: motivates Sam Donald for twenty twenty six is that he
- 26:43Speaker 2: did not play well in the biggest game of his
- 26:45Speaker 2: life in the Super Bowl.
- 26:47Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 26:47Speaker 3: I know, But how humble is that? I mean, that's awesome.
- 26:50Speaker 3: I mean he didn't I mean we can say it.
- 26:53Speaker 3: He said it, we can say it. He didn't necessarily,
- 26:56Speaker 3: but he didn't have to. And there are some people,
- 26:58Speaker 3: there's gunslingers out there there, you know, you're farvs and
- 27:01Speaker 3: whoever's who, Sometimes the coaches depend on being that person.
- 27:06Speaker 3: They didn't need it, and he followed Mike McDonald's plan.
- 27:10Speaker 3: That is the most defensive minded super Bowl in my time.
- 27:14Speaker 3: Watching this team that I have ever seen coached.
- 27:17Speaker 2: It was dominant, just dominated.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Exactly what he wanted exactly, So Sam, yes, you can
- 27:24Speaker 3: be good, but we don't need you to be good.
- 27:26Speaker 2: It bears repeating, though that the Seahawks won the all
- 27:29Speaker 2: three playoff games when Donald did not turn the ball
- 27:32Speaker 2: over one time. The defense was so good going into
- 27:36Speaker 2: the Plass. We talked about this going to the Plass.
- 27:38Speaker 2: I wrote about the News Tribune. If Donald doesn't turn
- 27:41Speaker 2: the ball over, this defense can win the Super Bowl.
- 27:43Speaker 2: And that's what happened. That defense led by Ernest Jones,
- 27:46Speaker 2: the traffic cop, the guy who gets everybody in place,
- 27:49Speaker 2: and a locker room leader, and his leadership never was
- 27:52Speaker 2: higher than the day in Englewood in November when Sam
- 27:56Speaker 2: Donald threw a career high four interceptions. They lost twenty
- 27:59Speaker 2: one nineteen. Donald almost got him, I mean within a
- 28:02Speaker 2: yard of a field goal that went just short and
- 28:03Speaker 2: wide from winning that game anyway. But after the game,
- 28:07Speaker 2: that was famously when Ernest Jones said in the pres
- 28:10Speaker 2: Cotmens live with the cameras rolling, if you got a
- 28:12Speaker 2: problem with my quarterback, f you except he didn't say F.
- 28:17Speaker 2: And I mentioned yesterday how as he was leaving the podium,
- 28:20Speaker 2: Sam Donald was coming on to it and they were
- 28:21Speaker 2: standing right next to me, and Jones just said, I
- 28:24Speaker 2: got you. This is what Sam Donald had said said
- 28:27Speaker 2: yesterday to Dave Softimo and Humellan about that.
- 28:30Speaker 9: Your teammate, Ernest Joan, I got to work for you.
- 28:33Speaker 13: Okay.
- 28:34Speaker 9: Now, the original of that was after the RAM game
- 28:38Speaker 9: on Thursday night. What did that mean to you? You
- 28:41Speaker 9: had a night that obviously did not want to have.
- 28:45Speaker 9: Your teammate comes out unobated, says you don't believe it.
- 28:49Speaker 9: This guy f you we do. What did that mean
- 28:51Speaker 9: to you personally that he did that for you?
- 28:54Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 28:54Speaker 10: Me personally. You know. It's it's funny.
- 28:58Speaker 11: It's like, you know, the guys feel that way, but
- 29:00Speaker 11: I think to hear it is a different deal, you know,
- 29:03Speaker 11: the way that Ernest not only had my back, but like,
- 29:06Speaker 11: I think that's a message. He wasn't Ernest wasn't necessarily
- 29:10Speaker 11: sending that message to me. He was also sending that
- 29:12Speaker 11: to the entire team, right. He was like, Hey, like,
- 29:14Speaker 11: we're in this together. And it was the same message
- 29:17Speaker 11: that Mike's been pushing. But that just kind of shows
- 29:20Speaker 11: you his leadership and really not only his leadership, but
- 29:22Speaker 11: how smart he is, Like he kind of knew in
- 29:24Speaker 11: that moment, like this is what needs to be done. Yeah,
- 29:27Speaker 11: and he also knew that I wasn't gonna say anything
- 29:30Speaker 11: like that. So I think for him to have my
- 29:33Speaker 11: back and just the team's back, to have put the
- 29:36Speaker 11: team first in that moment and decide, because when you use.
- 29:40Speaker 10: Those words, right, there's like power behind that.
- 29:43Speaker 11: As you know, it might not be the best thing
- 29:47Speaker 11: to do with you know, kids watching and all that stuff,
- 29:49Speaker 11: but like for a locker room sure you know, there's
- 29:53Speaker 11: there's no bs behind that, and so it was powerful
- 29:56Speaker 11: when you did it.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Sam Donald yesterday Dave Softy Maler at Seahawks training camp
- 30:01Speaker 2: talking about the Ernest Jones having his back after it
- 30:03Speaker 2: was actually he misspoke. It was not after the Thursday
- 30:06Speaker 2: night game, the home game. It was after the road game,
- 30:08Speaker 2: the first of the three meetings against the Rams, when
- 30:11Speaker 2: he threw four interceptions. Sam Donald did. But Donald's point
- 30:15Speaker 2: was a really good one because it's not just what
- 30:18Speaker 2: the media hears or what the fans here on televigon.
- 30:21Speaker 2: It's in the locker room. And Jones was talking to
- 30:24Speaker 2: the locker room Mike McDonald. Coaches all over do this
- 30:27Speaker 2: as well, but he was resonating that message well beyond
- 30:31Speaker 2: the media and the fans, and Donald appreciated that probably
- 30:35Speaker 2: most of all. There are two things there, one at
- 30:38Speaker 2: a step. That was the day the players tell me
- 30:41Speaker 2: they knew they had a dog in Sam Donald, they
- 30:43Speaker 2: had a guy that could they could win the Super
- 30:45Speaker 2: Bowl with when he almost beat the Rams within a
- 30:47Speaker 2: yard or two of beating the Rams despite throwing four interceptions.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Remember he drove them off their own goal line, the
- 30:52Speaker 2: punt that went out at the one yard line. They
- 30:54Speaker 2: had a minute left and one time out, and Donald
- 30:56Speaker 2: still drove them all the way down across midfield. But
- 30:59Speaker 2: then a sixth dy one yard field goal by Jason
- 31:01Speaker 2: Myers came just short and wide at the horn, and
- 31:04Speaker 2: that's why the Seahawks end up losing that game twenty
- 31:06Speaker 2: one nineteen. But that day was the day the Seahawks
- 31:08Speaker 2: found the belief in Sam Darnold. And that day was
- 31:11Speaker 2: also the day that Ernest Jones became the undisputed leader
- 31:14Speaker 2: of that.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Locker room a hundred percent. I mean what we heard
- 31:17Speaker 3: in that clip that we played that was from the
- 31:19Speaker 3: Super Bowl parade.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Yes, it was so repeated it.
- 31:21Speaker 3: That's right, Yes he did, and we all knew that
- 31:24Speaker 3: it was going to happen. We were all just you know,
- 31:26Speaker 3: sitting there knowing that that's exactly what he was going
- 31:29Speaker 3: to say. And they were having their fun. They had
- 31:32Speaker 3: their solo cups and all, and it's public. I'm not
- 31:35Speaker 3: giving any inside information over here, but he when he
- 31:38Speaker 3: went up, We're all like, okay, here it comes, here,
- 31:40Speaker 3: it comes. But it was almost the expectation. He couldn't
- 31:43Speaker 3: disappoint because everyone loved it so much. Like you were
- 31:46Speaker 3: saying yesterday, there's t shirts, there's like merch based on this.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Erict Jones says when he now goes out and see it.
- 31:52Speaker 2: He used to go out in Seattle restaurants, grocery store.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Nobody said a word to him. They didn't even recognize him.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Since that time when he said fu and the Inglewood
- 32:00Speaker 2: post game for Darnold, he said, he can't go anywhere
- 32:04Speaker 2: now without people recognizing him. And one to take selfies
- 32:07Speaker 2: with him with middle fingers up. His wife's like, what's
- 32:10Speaker 2: going on here?
- 32:12Speaker 10: Off, Hi?
- 32:13Speaker 3: We just wanted to get bred at say yeah, that's
- 32:17Speaker 3: how hard come to the games.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Ernest Jones' life.
- 32:21Speaker 3: He's an awesome dude. I like him a lot more.
- 32:23Speaker 2: From Seahawks training camp. At eleven o'clock, you'll hear from
- 32:26Speaker 2: Riley Mills that he's really been good during this training
- 32:30Speaker 2: camp now that he's fully healthy and not rehabbing a
- 32:32Speaker 2: reconstructed knee. You'll hear from a really good story from
- 32:35Speaker 2: Riley Mills about how his notreame career ended and how
- 32:37Speaker 2: he got to the college football playoff games with days
- 32:40Speaker 2: out of a reconstructive knee surgery. And it was a long, hard,
- 32:44Speaker 2: funny story. You'll hear that at eleven o'clock. But up next,
- 32:47Speaker 2: a Lease Woodward, a one time host here at kg
- 32:50Speaker 2: are twenty three years on the sidelines of Husky football
- 32:53Speaker 2: radio broadcast here on KJR. She is the new voice
- 32:57Speaker 2: of Huskies football has announced Yeah yesterday. You'll hear from
- 33:00Speaker 2: Elise Woodward next on ninety three point three KJRFM. Hi,
- 33:20Speaker 2: welcome back, Happy Wednesday to you, Greg Bell, Jessmon McIntyre
- 33:23Speaker 2: with you on ninety three point three KJRFM. We're joined
- 33:26Speaker 2: in studio by Zach McFarlane, who's a rising senior in
- 33:29Speaker 2: the Morros School of Communications at Washington State University in Pullman,
- 33:33Speaker 2: Kennedy Catholic High School grad. We're both enjoying the replay
- 33:36Speaker 2: of Mariners TV's broadcast last night of the ninth inning
- 33:39Speaker 2: of the Mariner's Dodgers game. Zach hadn't seen the Robays
- 33:43Speaker 2: play until just a minute ago. Second one. He said,
- 33:48Speaker 2: that was wild. That was like a cartoon little play.
- 33:52Speaker 2: That was funny.
- 33:53Speaker 3: Still one that I'm taking that. I can see it
- 33:57Speaker 3: actually on the monitor here, I can see them doing
- 33:59Speaker 3: the circle dames. Yes they are, which I really enjoy.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Mariner's Game two tonight Emerson Hancock down at Dodgers Stadium
- 34:05Speaker 2: against the LA Dodgers. Mariners two and a half back
- 34:08Speaker 2: from Texas and the American League wes for first place.
- 34:11Speaker 2: They come home, by the way, after one more game
- 34:12Speaker 2: tomorrow in Los Angeles. Friday begins a homestand against the
- 34:15Speaker 2: Minnesota Twins at the Yard in Soto. College football is
- 34:18Speaker 2: gonna get going pretty soon, and the Huskies will have
- 34:21Speaker 2: a new voice here on their Voice of the Huskies
- 34:23Speaker 2: ninety three point three KJR. At least Woodward. You remember her,
- 34:27Speaker 2: You know her. She don't win anywhere.
- 34:29Speaker 3: We all know her. Of course, she and I would
- 34:31Speaker 3: trade like clothing gear, you know, just advice with each
- 34:36Speaker 3: other because she's my cohort among the Kougs. She's on
- 34:39Speaker 3: the Huskies, and we just like compare layers and things for.
- 34:42Speaker 2: The Apple Cups.
- 34:43Speaker 3: And obviously it's going to be a warm one this year,
- 34:46Speaker 3: but she won't be down there with me.
- 34:48Speaker 2: And he will be up in the warm well. It'll
- 34:50Speaker 2: be open air press box. Of course. The Apple Cup
- 34:52Speaker 2: this year is the very first game of the year.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Is gonna be hot at Husky Stadium.
- 34:55Speaker 3: Deal, That's what I was saying. Yeah, no layers, it's.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Gonna be really warm. At least. Woodward is placing Tony Castercrone,
- 35:01Speaker 2: who left to be the new Tampa Bay Buccaneers radio voice,
- 35:04Speaker 2: and yesterday the University of Washington in Learfield Communications announcing
- 35:07Speaker 2: that ELISEE. Woodward, a former Husky basketball player from Eugene, Oregon,
- 35:13Speaker 2: twenty three years on the sidelines of Husky Broadcast, is
- 35:16Speaker 2: going to be the new voice of the Huskies here
- 35:18Speaker 2: on ninety three point three KJFM. She talked yesterday to
- 35:21Speaker 2: Dave Softie Mahler and Hugh Millan about this. In the
- 35:24Speaker 2: historic nature, we believe she is the first full time
- 35:28Speaker 2: play by play in college football play by play person
- 35:31Speaker 2: to be a woman.
- 35:32Speaker 3: In FBS on radio. Yes, that is correct.
- 35:34Speaker 2: This is atleast Woodward yesterday on KJR.
- 35:36Speaker 7: I literally am pinching myself. It's something that I grew
- 35:39Speaker 7: up a big college football fan. My brother you mentioned
- 35:41Speaker 7: being from Oregon. You know, he played football for the Docks.
- 35:43Speaker 7: He was six years older than me, and you know,
- 35:45Speaker 7: I remember I have specific memories when the Huskies would
- 35:49Speaker 7: come in and just whoop up on Oregon, and I
- 35:51Speaker 7: was like, this is amazing. And there was always something
- 35:54Speaker 7: regal about the w to me and the Huskies and
- 35:57Speaker 7: you know, the everything it was just it was the
- 35:59Speaker 7: first class university in a first class city, and everything
- 36:02Speaker 7: about it was like wow. And my dad actually was
- 36:06Speaker 7: in the rotary for a long time in Eugene and
- 36:10Speaker 7: he won a prize when I was in the eighth
- 36:12Speaker 7: grade and it was a Washington Husky sweatshirt. And I'm
- 36:15Speaker 7: in the eighth grade and I was wearing a Washington
- 36:17Speaker 7: Husky sweatshirt in Eugene and was like, let's go anyway.
- 36:23Speaker 7: When I went on my recruiting trip and I got
- 36:24Speaker 7: a chance, there's a player that you know they would
- 36:27Speaker 7: be honored to meet Don James, but maybe I mean
- 36:29Speaker 7: I was in awe. I was like, this is the
- 36:31Speaker 7: dog father man, Like, oh my god, I got a
- 36:33Speaker 7: chance to pop in his office and he knew my name,
- 36:36Speaker 7: Like obviously he would have been prepped, you know, but
- 36:38Speaker 7: I was like, what this is. I mean, it's fantastic.
- 36:42Speaker 7: And you know when I got a chance when they
- 36:44Speaker 7: offered me the job to be the sideline reporter, and
- 36:46Speaker 7: that was a long time ago, and I just was
- 36:49Speaker 7: pensioning myself. And it is the honest true that every
- 36:52Speaker 7: time that smoke, when those guys get ready to come
- 36:54Speaker 7: out the tunnel and I'm on the sideline, like I
- 36:56Speaker 7: say a prayer, and I'm of gratitude for having the
- 36:59Speaker 7: opportunity to have this because it is so special to
- 37:02Speaker 7: be a part of the University of Washington in the
- 37:05Speaker 7: football program and these fantastic athletes that I've had a
- 37:08Speaker 7: chance to cover. And I mean just I've seen so
- 37:10Speaker 7: many legends and so many times I've had goosebumps, and
- 37:14Speaker 7: you know, I just it's I'm just so thankful. I
- 37:16Speaker 7: just can't even believe it.
- 37:18Speaker 2: At least one word of the new Voice of Huskies
- 37:20Speaker 2: Football also talked about the historic significance of this.
- 37:25Speaker 7: It's something that for me, I take a tremendous amount
- 37:27Speaker 7: of pride in and I've compared it. I hope I'm like,
- 37:30Speaker 7: you know, the big guys up front being an offensive
- 37:32Speaker 7: lineman and opening up holes for people behind you. I
- 37:36Speaker 7: never want the focus to be on that. I've always
- 37:39Speaker 7: just worked extremely hard with the hope that I've earned
- 37:41Speaker 7: the right and it has nothing to do with the
- 37:44Speaker 7: fact that I am a female. But I hope that
- 37:46Speaker 7: you know ultimately that because I do a good job,
- 37:48Speaker 7: because I know my stuff, because I prep, because I
- 37:51Speaker 7: care all of those things in my passion for every
- 37:55Speaker 7: assignment I have, no matter what the sport, that other
- 37:57Speaker 7: people behind me will have the opportunity, and I think
- 38:00Speaker 7: it really is important. I probably I think back on it,
- 38:03Speaker 7: and it's so hard because you just don't know. Growing up, Like,
- 38:06Speaker 7: you know, I was dumb enough when I was a
- 38:07Speaker 7: young kid in elementary I wanted to play in the NBA.
- 38:10Speaker 7: There was no WNBA, and I you know, I was like,
- 38:12Speaker 7: let's go. That was my goal and then it was
- 38:15Speaker 7: like a chance for There was no female play by
- 38:18Speaker 7: play announcers when I was growing up and so I
- 38:21Speaker 7: was like, Okay, what am I going to do. I
- 38:22Speaker 7: was an analyst for basketball, I was a reporter, I
- 38:24Speaker 7: was a host. I did all these things. And I
- 38:26Speaker 7: did have somebody tell me when I was in the business,
- 38:29Speaker 7: like you know, just like in college. I think it
- 38:31Speaker 7: was early in my career that when I was pursuing
- 38:33Speaker 7: this that that's tough females, you know, being played by play.
- 38:37Speaker 7: I don't know the voice range if it's possible, and
- 38:39Speaker 7: I think it's it's so important because I think it
- 38:41Speaker 7: does take people getting used to hearing female voices because
- 38:45Speaker 7: it's it's something that's newer. But there's been so many
- 38:48Speaker 7: that have come and so many that are good, and
- 38:51Speaker 7: so many that are breaking barriers, and you know, I
- 38:55Speaker 7: just hope that, like I said, that people will come
- 38:59Speaker 7: to appreciate all the passion and the hard work.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Elise Woodward talking about being the voice of the Huskies
- 39:09Speaker 2: for the coming football season college football seam. It's also
- 39:12Speaker 2: a fantastic mother. I went on road trips when I
- 39:15Speaker 2: worked for the University of Washington. On the football trips
- 39:17Speaker 2: with Elise, often sat where they're on the buses and
- 39:19Speaker 2: the planes and she's juggling kids schedules and making sure
- 39:22Speaker 2: her husband could pick him up and as soon as
- 39:24Speaker 2: I land, I'll go pick him up. And her boys
- 39:27Speaker 2: played baseball for the University of Washington. Her husband did
- 39:30Speaker 2: as well. They are now Washington looking for a sideline reporter.
- 39:34Speaker 2: I understand, and I also understand and reading Christian Caple's
- 39:37Speaker 2: on Montlake article that Elise is only going to do
- 39:40Speaker 2: football because she's going to maintain her college football or
- 39:42Speaker 2: excuse me, college basketball play by play duties for Fox Television,
- 39:46Speaker 2: which is awesome. It is so. And she also does
- 39:49Speaker 2: it for the Portland New WNBA team in Portland, but
- 39:52Speaker 2: that leaves open the men's basketball does Tony Castercone used
- 39:56Speaker 2: to do play for here on KJR, so that job
- 39:59Speaker 2: is also still open in that season beginning in November.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Up next, I talked to Riley Mills. You're gonna hear
- 40:07Speaker 2: from the defensive linemen who missed most of last season
- 40:10Speaker 2: recovering from a reconstructive knee surgery. He got in playoffs
- 40:13Speaker 2: and Notre Dame at the end of the twenty twenty
- 40:15Speaker 2: four season. Then he goes in Super Bowl and blows
- 40:18Speaker 2: up the Patriots offensive line, sacks Drake May for his
- 40:21Speaker 2: first career sack. Hear from Riley Mills next eleven thirty
- 40:25Speaker 2: year text and talkbacks as you're part of the show,
- 40:27Speaker 2: as you are every day at that time. On ninety
- 40:30Speaker 2: three point three KJRFM.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Now from the Star Rentals Sports to us Jordan. Ninety
- 40:47Speaker 1: three point three KJRFM Sports Headlines.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Good morning headlines have brought to you by frost brewed
- 40:53Speaker 2: Corslai choose Chill. Mariners most inexplicable win of the season
- 40:57Speaker 2: last night, beating the Dodgers seven to six in Dodger Stadium.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Dom Canzone two home runs, two of the five the
- 41:05Speaker 2: Mariners had against left handed pitching, gave tied the game
- 41:08Speaker 2: in the sixth, won the game basically in the eighth,
- 41:12Speaker 2: and then Andres Munoz got out of a runner at third,
- 41:15Speaker 2: no out jam and through the heart of the lineup,
- 41:17Speaker 2: retiring Mookie Bets to end at seven to six. Mariners win.
- 41:21Speaker 2: They stay two and a half behind the Rangers in
- 41:22Speaker 2: the America League West. Game two tonight in Dodger Stadium
- 41:24Speaker 2: of the three game series. Emerson Hancock subject of trade rumors.
- 41:28Speaker 2: The deadline is Monday three pm. Hancock starts the second
- 41:32Speaker 2: game in the series tonight in Dodger Stadium, seven to
- 41:34Speaker 2: ten start. The Seahawks yesterday had their fourth practice at
- 41:37Speaker 2: training camp. Tory Horton was back after missing the day before.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Jake Bobo did not practice. I was told he might
- 41:43Speaker 2: have a hamstring issue. That stories at the Newstribune dot com.
- 41:47Speaker 2: But Clark was a star and Jalen Miller had the
- 41:49Speaker 2: best practice I've seen him in two training camps. He's
- 41:52Speaker 2: been inaccurate so far this spring into the summer, but
- 41:55Speaker 2: yesterday he was on it, thrown across his body, zipping
- 41:58Speaker 2: pat he was He looked really good, thrown into tight windows.
- 42:01Speaker 2: All that pretty accurate and good day for Jalen Milroe yesterday.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Also yesterday, the Browns signed Denzel Ward to a two
- 42:09Speaker 2: year extension at sixty two point two million, manking him
- 42:12Speaker 2: now the highest paid cornerback in the NFL. That's the
- 42:15Speaker 2: new benchmark that the agents for both Christian Gonzales of
- 42:18Speaker 2: the Patriots and Devin Witherspoon of the Sea Oak they
- 42:20Speaker 2: have the same agency, are now looking at Denzel Ward
- 42:23Speaker 2: at thirty one point one million, eclipsing Trent McDuffie at
- 42:26Speaker 2: thirty one million with the Rams. So it goes the
- 42:28Speaker 2: next week Farrog. Will it be Gonzalez? Will it be Weatherspoon?
- 42:31Speaker 2: That's why Witherspoon has yet to sign it appears. San
- 42:34Speaker 2: Francisco forty nine Ers head coach Kyle Shanahan publicly discussed
- 42:37Speaker 2: his July fourteenth car accident was volved in and he
- 42:39Speaker 2: said the police report was wrong. He was at fault,
- 42:43Speaker 2: not the woman he crashed into. He said he dropped
- 42:45Speaker 2: his cell phone between his seats and reached down for it,
- 42:48Speaker 2: and when he reached down for it, his car veered
- 42:50Speaker 2: into the other woman.
- 42:51Speaker 3: He's going appreciate the honesty on that one, to be honest.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Cleared the air there. Yes, the woman was getting bilified
- 42:58Speaker 2: down in the Bay Area, apparently for the police reports
- 43:00Speaker 2: saying she was at fault. Storm fell hard last night
- 43:03Speaker 2: to the Fever of Indiana last night one oh five
- 43:05Speaker 2: ninety five. The Fever can score. They have Caitlin Clark
- 43:07Speaker 2: and a bunch of others. Clark had thirty two points,
- 43:10Speaker 2: seven assists, her ninth career thirty point five plus assist game.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Natasha Heidman knocked down thirty three points for the Storm,
- 43:18Speaker 2: six rebounds and four assists. Indian one oh five ninety
- 43:21Speaker 2: five of the storm. And this morning in the NHL,
- 43:25Speaker 2: we have a new highest paid player and he's only
- 43:27Speaker 2: twenty years old. Macklin seven Brini, the first picked in
- 43:30Speaker 2: the twenty twenty four draft one hundred and fourteen fifteen
- 43:33Speaker 2: points for the Sharks last year. The Sharks are giving
- 43:36Speaker 2: him eighteen point eight million dollars a year on average,
- 43:39Speaker 2: five year deal. At ninety four million for twenty years old.
- 43:43Speaker 2: That's pretty good work. It's zact McFarland, Washington State. You're twenty,
- 43:46Speaker 2: aren't you.
- 43:47Speaker 6: I'm twenty one.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you take ninety four million to do something. Absolutely
- 43:52Speaker 2: And Atlanta Falcons quarterback two oh Taco Bayolla is now
- 43:55Speaker 2: sidelined with what the team says is a quote flare
- 43:57Speaker 2: up reports are be a back issue. Kevin Stefanski called
- 44:02Speaker 2: it a Flara member. They still don't have. Their quarterback
- 44:07Speaker 2: situation is up in the air, to say the least. Pennick,
- 44:10Speaker 2: Michael Pennock's junior has not been on the field for
- 44:12Speaker 2: eleven on eleven because he's still recovering from his reconstructive
- 44:14Speaker 2: knee surgery in November. So now they've signed Cooper Rush.
- 44:17Speaker 2: The Falcons have makes you appreciate Sam Darnold in the
- 44:21Speaker 2: quarterback situation. Also in Seahawks' training camp, Riley Mills sat
- 44:28Speaker 2: down with us yesterday. Man, he has some really good
- 44:31Speaker 2: stories on how he got back from his reconstructiveness. You
- 44:33Speaker 2: saw him blow up two Patriots linemen and crash into
- 44:36Speaker 2: Drake May for his first career sack in Super Bowl
- 44:38Speaker 2: sixty and now in training camp he looks like one
- 44:41Speaker 2: of the best players. Talk of camp in some ways.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Riley Mills here on ninety three point three KJR Welcome
- 44:50Speaker 2: back to the Virginia Mason Athletics Center in Seahawks training
- 44:53Speaker 2: camp Live on ninety three point three KJRFM. We're joined
- 44:56Speaker 2: by Roley Mills, fifth round draft pick defensive end from
- 44:59Speaker 2: Notre Dame Seahawks got last year. You saw him in
- 45:02Speaker 2: the Super Bowl manhandle with new England Packer offensive lineman
- 45:05Speaker 2: right in to a quarterback sack. His first sack of
- 45:08Speaker 2: his career came in the biggest game of his life.
- 45:10Speaker 2: That was pretty cool, wasn't it.
- 45:11Speaker 13: Yeah, not too bad.
- 45:14Speaker 2: This time last year you were recovering from reconstructive knee surge.
- 45:18Speaker 2: I don't have to remind you that, but can you
- 45:20Speaker 2: take us back to what your mentality was in a
- 45:24Speaker 2: long ARDU was probably lonely rehabed. You were out on
- 45:28Speaker 2: this camp. I was watching you, just watching these practices.
- 45:30Speaker 2: You were in the meetings, you were doing everything butt practicing,
- 45:33Speaker 2: but you couldn't participate, not really until what November? Right, Yeah,
- 45:37Speaker 2: what was that whole experience like? And when you were
- 45:40Speaker 2: just standing watching what was going through your mind? Last
- 45:43Speaker 2: training camp?
- 45:44Speaker 13: It was tough. I think looking back, I think it
- 45:46Speaker 13: actually probably helped me more than I realized. But it
- 45:50Speaker 13: stuck kind of watching everyone, you know, go out there
- 45:52Speaker 13: work their tails off and then having just you know,
- 45:54Speaker 13: stand there and not be a part of it. But
- 45:56Speaker 13: you On the bright side, I actually got to talk
- 45:57Speaker 13: to Ad a lot and Coach Hines, and you know,
- 45:59Speaker 13: they held me kind of understand to watch, you know,
- 46:01Speaker 13: the offensive side of the ball and kind of get
- 46:03Speaker 13: a feel for like the NFL style of play coming
- 46:06Speaker 13: from the offense. So when I actually got out there,
- 46:08Speaker 13: it did help kind of like slow things down. But yeah,
- 46:11Speaker 13: for me, I tried to do the most. Like every
- 46:12Speaker 13: time we did a drill, I was standing right behind
- 46:13Speaker 13: trying to like take mental I think I tried to
- 46:16Speaker 13: break the record for most mental reps taken in a camp,
- 46:18Speaker 13: so I was working towards it. But yeah, I feel
- 46:20Speaker 13: like that just there's definitely a lot of time, so
- 46:23Speaker 13: I was trying to do whatever I could to kind
- 46:25Speaker 13: of get, you know, an edge or you know, just
- 46:27Speaker 13: give myself something to do during the camp.
- 46:29Speaker 2: How important was it that you did debut late last
- 46:32Speaker 2: season and that at least there was a light at
- 46:35Speaker 2: the end of the tunnel, and that they didn't tell
- 46:36Speaker 2: you this is a red shirt year, or that we're
- 46:38Speaker 2: going to give you the entire year. How much did
- 46:40Speaker 2: that help in that whole process?
- 46:41Speaker 13: Yeah, that was great. I mean I don't know, I
- 46:43Speaker 13: think you know, when I hurt my knee and I
- 46:45Speaker 13: got the news and you go through the process. For me,
- 46:47Speaker 13: it was just like okay, getting I'm coming back, Like
- 46:49Speaker 13: there was no I never really there was never really
- 46:51Speaker 13: an option in my mind for a red shirt or
- 46:53Speaker 13: if I wasn't, Like my mindset was I'm always coming
- 46:55Speaker 13: back and I can't wait till my first nap. And
- 46:58Speaker 13: then it's kind of crazy. It goes like, you know,
- 47:00Speaker 13: you're doing like baby steps and then you know you
- 47:02Speaker 13: start running. I sprinted for a week, I hit mark
- 47:05Speaker 13: the strength coach for a week and they go, all right,
- 47:06Speaker 13: you're playing the Colts this week. So I'm like, all right, perfect,
- 47:09Speaker 13: But yeah, it was great just to you know, they
- 47:11Speaker 13: had that confidence in me and so you got to
- 47:13Speaker 13: get out there and you know have the vets and
- 47:15Speaker 13: the other guys like you know, Leo Byron, Jay Reid
- 47:18Speaker 13: just kind of you know, helped me out and watch
- 47:20Speaker 13: how they do it and you know, got to learn
- 47:21Speaker 13: a lot.
- 47:22Speaker 2: What was this off season like, going home, being around family,
- 47:25Speaker 2: a super Bowl champion, a sack in the Super Bowl
- 47:28Speaker 2: in front of two hundred million people watching. What was
- 47:30Speaker 2: that experience and what was the coolest moment of that
- 47:32Speaker 2: off season.
- 47:33Speaker 13: Yeah, it's way more fun when you're you know, fully
- 47:35Speaker 13: able to walk and do all that. But it was odd.
- 47:37Speaker 13: I mean it really felt like a dream, like right
- 47:39Speaker 13: after that. That's something you know as a little kid,
- 47:41Speaker 13: I remember watching the Super Bowl. So, I mean this
- 47:43Speaker 13: off season was great. I think it was really cool
- 47:46Speaker 13: just having the people that were there with me, you know,
- 47:48Speaker 13: the year before kind of like my lowest time and
- 47:50Speaker 13: dealing with the knee. I feel like it was cool
- 47:52Speaker 13: to see it come to fruition and everything. We kind
- 47:54Speaker 13: of dreamed of, you know, would be the perfect ending
- 47:56Speaker 13: for it or perfect situation for it. You know, we
- 47:59Speaker 13: all got to kind of sell that and you know,
- 48:01Speaker 13: take a minute after the season and be like, wow,
- 48:03Speaker 13: we uh we really got to come here and do this,
- 48:06Speaker 13: and you know, it was really just a blessing. So
- 48:08Speaker 13: I was really pumped for it.
- 48:09Speaker 2: When you got injured in the college football playoff game
- 48:12Speaker 2: it was the Indiana game, right, yeah, against a notre
- 48:14Speaker 2: name Indiana in December of twenty twenty four, did you
- 48:18Speaker 2: fear that maybe you wouldn't get drafted? Was that it
- 48:20Speaker 2: crossing your mind?
- 48:22Speaker 10: You know?
- 48:24Speaker 13: For me, I, you know, the reason I came back
- 48:26Speaker 13: was like, look, I want to be the best version
- 48:27Speaker 13: of myself, and I felt like that season I did
- 48:30Speaker 13: everything in my power I could to become the best
- 48:32Speaker 13: version of myself. So I knew, no matter you know,
- 48:35Speaker 13: what happened with the draft and all that, that I
- 48:37Speaker 13: was the best player I could be at that point.
- 48:39Speaker 13: And you know, to be honest, my agent, you know,
- 48:41Speaker 13: he was really one of the you know, the best
- 48:43Speaker 13: people through the process because he told me, he was
- 48:44Speaker 13: just straight up with me. It was like, look, a
- 48:46Speaker 13: lot of gms probably aren't gonna take the risk on
- 48:48Speaker 13: a guy that they can't use in year one. But
- 48:51Speaker 13: if a team's gonna like you, they're gonna fall in
- 48:52Speaker 13: love with you and they're gonna pick you. So, you know,
- 48:55Speaker 13: I think you did a great job because you know,
- 48:56Speaker 13: I kind of knew expectation wise where it was gonna be,
- 48:58Speaker 13: and you know, I think just I had a great
- 49:01Speaker 13: support system, so they kind of helped me go all
- 49:03Speaker 13: through that, and you know, I probably think that you know,
- 49:05Speaker 13: that made the biggest difference for me.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Now fast forward to much happier times. Now, yesterday I
- 49:11Speaker 2: saw you swim move a three or four different times,
- 49:14Speaker 2: starting offensive lineman and get in the backfield. You were
- 49:16Speaker 2: living in the backfield yesterday. What have you noticed about
- 49:19Speaker 2: your quickness and your getting now that you're in full health,
- 49:22Speaker 2: your quickness and your game and how it translated.
- 49:24Speaker 10: At the NFL level.
- 49:25Speaker 13: Yeah, I think a lot of the things I worked
- 49:27Speaker 13: on my last year of college really helped a lot
- 49:30Speaker 13: and really paid off. I think those things that you know,
- 49:32Speaker 13: my pass rush to playing the run and you know,
- 49:34Speaker 13: just how to prepare like a pro really helped me
- 49:37Speaker 13: a lot. Now, especially during this camp in OTAs, and
- 49:39Speaker 13: you know, for me, I'm not going to come in
- 49:41Speaker 13: and think I know every single thing. So I've been
- 49:42Speaker 13: doing everything I can just to try to learn from
- 49:44Speaker 13: you know, the coaches, ad the vets, and I feel
- 49:48Speaker 13: like now it's just really clicking and I kind of
- 49:49Speaker 13: get to, you know, go off and there's no oh,
- 49:52Speaker 13: I got this knee brace on, or I gotta deal
- 49:53Speaker 13: with the knee. I really forget about it when I'm
- 49:55Speaker 13: out there. So that's been the greatest part.
- 49:56Speaker 2: Who's the cat you're leaning on the most in the
- 49:58Speaker 2: locker room, in the meeting room. Who's the mentor that's
- 50:01Speaker 2: taught you the most?
- 50:02Speaker 13: Yeah, definitely, I think Leo just I think we have
- 50:04Speaker 13: similar play styles and you know, he's someone who's you know,
- 50:07Speaker 13: kind of taller de tackle. We kind of have similar
- 50:09Speaker 13: ways we play the game. But I think him even
- 50:12Speaker 13: you know Jay Reid too, is he just plays, you know,
- 50:14Speaker 13: ahead of the snap and he is able to kind
- 50:16Speaker 13: of see formation. So I've been trying to pick up
- 50:18Speaker 13: stuff from them. But it's kind of fun I play.
- 50:20Speaker 13: Each guy has like their own little, you know thing,
- 50:22Speaker 13: So I'm out here trying to get all the Infinity
- 50:24Speaker 13: stones from each guy. So I'm working on it.
- 50:27Speaker 2: How many different positions and roles are you playing, inside, outside, tackle?
- 50:31Speaker 2: What did they have you alternating and doing all the time.
- 50:34Speaker 13: I'm kind of doing, but of everything. I mean, for
- 50:35Speaker 13: I think when I came out in the draft and
- 50:37Speaker 13: all this, my big selling point was I can play
- 50:39Speaker 13: anything from the zero to the nine. And I think
- 50:41Speaker 13: that's something that you know, I offer just my versatility,
- 50:44Speaker 13: and you know other days like I'll play the shade,
- 50:46Speaker 13: I'll play the three tech, I'll play the five. So
- 50:48Speaker 13: I think right now it's really been the three tech
- 50:50Speaker 13: in the big end. But I think just for me,
- 50:53Speaker 13: I'm pretty versatile and I'm willing to play kind of
- 50:55Speaker 13: any position.
- 50:55Speaker 2: We're talking to Ryani Mills. He's the defensive lineman who
- 50:58Speaker 2: debuted Super Bowl. He actually didn't debuted in December against
- 51:02Speaker 2: the Indianapolis Culture after a knee injury ended his time
- 51:06Speaker 2: at Notre Dame's fifth round pick last year, first career
- 51:08Speaker 2: sack in the Super Bowl, and now he is a
- 51:10Speaker 2: force already showing out at the Seahawks training camp. On
- 51:14Speaker 2: ninety three point three KJRFM Riley the Mike McDonald defense.
- 51:19Speaker 2: We hear one word commands that Ernest Jones and others
- 51:22Speaker 2: are barking out right before the snap, what is a
- 51:25Speaker 2: defensive end the three tech? How does that affect him?
- 51:28Speaker 2: What do you do right before the snap? And how
- 51:30Speaker 2: intricate is that whole process?
- 51:32Speaker 13: Yeah, it's pretty I know for the back seven it's
- 51:34Speaker 13: it's super intricate. And you know, even for us, we
- 51:36Speaker 13: do a communication, you know if we have certain looks
- 51:39Speaker 13: and formations, like they're telling us to bump the front
- 51:41Speaker 13: and we're looking at you know, different things. But for me,
- 51:44Speaker 13: one thing I've been focused on is just trying to
- 51:45Speaker 13: see less and focus on my key. So you know,
- 51:48Speaker 13: I'll try to pick out those two or three things
- 51:49Speaker 13: I'll see pre snap, and then as seen as I
- 51:51Speaker 13: get in, I kind of just you know, zone in
- 51:53Speaker 13: on my my key and get ready to come off
- 51:55Speaker 13: the ball.
- 51:56Speaker 2: What's the coolest thing about being the NFL? What do
- 51:58Speaker 2: you think man that you all pinch yourself and like
- 52:01Speaker 2: I get to do this.
- 52:03Speaker 13: I think I just love the compet Like I just
- 52:05Speaker 13: love the fact that everyone's the best at their position,
- 52:07Speaker 13: like in the world. I think that's so cool to me.
- 52:08Speaker 13: And like growing up, I was like that's what I
- 52:10Speaker 13: thought was so cool is you have the best in
- 52:11Speaker 13: the world. So when we go out there and it's like,
- 52:13Speaker 13: you know, I get our offensive line, that's the best
- 52:16Speaker 13: offensive line in the world. You know, our our linebackers,
- 52:18Speaker 13: our safety is there, our d line. Like, I just
- 52:20Speaker 13: love the competitiveness of it, and you know, everyone's trying
- 52:23Speaker 13: to get, you know, one percent better, So I just
- 52:25Speaker 13: kind of love the grind of it.
- 52:27Speaker 2: How much did a Notre Dame program and how they
- 52:29Speaker 2: run it prepare you for.
- 52:30Speaker 13: This actually a lot. It's kind of funny, I tell people.
- 52:33Speaker 13: I'm like, I feel like the Seahawks are very similar
- 52:35Speaker 13: to Notre Dame. I know, we got a couple of
- 52:36Speaker 13: USC guys here, but yeah, in my way, I just
- 52:39Speaker 13: think like very community based. Like I think at Notre Dame,
- 52:42Speaker 13: it was really about the culture there and I feel
- 52:43Speaker 13: like everyone matched, like the coaches to players and everyone
- 52:46Speaker 13: had an equal voice, and I feel like that's the
- 52:48Speaker 13: same thing here. Like, you know, you could be a
- 52:50Speaker 13: rookie or a year or two guy talking to a
- 52:52Speaker 13: vet or a you know, a high level coach and
- 52:55Speaker 13: you'll get that same respect as if you were you know,
- 52:57Speaker 13: a star player or this and that. So everyone has
- 52:59Speaker 13: a voice in this team and It's cool because you know,
- 53:01Speaker 13: it's not just like oh, the D lines of the
- 53:03Speaker 13: D line and you know this group. For this group,
- 53:05Speaker 13: I think everybody meshes really well in the locker room,
- 53:07Speaker 13: kind of the same as it was at at Notre Dame.
- 53:09Speaker 2: Mike McDonald's walking talks and tell us you're why those
- 53:13Speaker 2: type of what is that experience like for Did you
- 53:16Speaker 2: expect that as an NFL player that you'd be sharing
- 53:18Speaker 2: yourself for having such, as you said, such a voice
- 53:20Speaker 2: that you have.
- 53:21Speaker 13: I didn't expect it because I heard from a lot
- 53:23Speaker 13: of people they were just like, as soon as you
- 53:25Speaker 13: get in the NFL, it's kind of you know, everyone's
- 53:27Speaker 13: kind of on their own. They're doing their own thing,
- 53:28Speaker 13: and like, yeah, it's kind of the opposite. I think
- 53:31Speaker 13: it's I think it's really cool that like yesterday, I'm
- 53:34Speaker 13: in a group with you know, uh, a Lucas, right,
- 53:38Speaker 13: I was a Charles Cross and then you know Jami
- 53:40Speaker 13: or Kicker and then you know A d was there.
- 53:42Speaker 13: Like you kind of have everyone from all sides of
- 53:44Speaker 13: the ball talking about their process and you know how
- 53:46Speaker 13: they approach it. So I feel like it's been cool
- 53:48Speaker 13: to just hear everyone's you know, different opinions in different
- 53:51Speaker 13: ways that they approach fall camp in the game and
- 53:53Speaker 13: kind of forces you to become closer with everyone in
- 53:56Speaker 13: the locker room.
- 53:56Speaker 2: What do you talk about in those groups when you
- 53:58Speaker 2: have a kicker, offensive tackle? What are you guys talking about? Uh?
- 54:01Speaker 13: Kind of like, you know, what is your what is
- 54:03Speaker 13: it like when you're you know, dialed in having your
- 54:06Speaker 13: best moment? You know, what are some things you wish
- 54:08Speaker 13: you could tell yourself, you know, your first year and
- 54:11Speaker 13: then you know, sometimes we'll just kind of, you know,
- 54:13Speaker 13: be talking a little bit, like, you know, what's been
- 54:14Speaker 13: your favorite part of camp or just kind of like
- 54:16Speaker 13: chatting about But yeah, they're usually folks starting around like
- 54:19Speaker 13: you know, our team culture and what we're like at
- 54:22Speaker 13: our our best.
- 54:24Speaker 2: The day they drafted you on a Saturday, I remember
- 54:26Speaker 2: asking you on our phone call about the r V
- 54:29Speaker 2: that you took to the Orange Bowl. I'm going to
- 54:31Speaker 2: ask you to retell the story. When he had injured
- 54:34Speaker 2: in the Indiana first round playoff game, the Notre Dame
- 54:36Speaker 2: medical staff told Riley Mills that he couldn't fly for
- 54:39Speaker 2: fear of bloodcots in your injured leg. So what did
- 54:43Speaker 2: you do?
- 54:44Speaker 13: I shout out to Notre Dame. We got an Nihill
- 54:47Speaker 13: deal and we I actually found out I think it's
- 54:50Speaker 13: Mitch Walker. Elkhart was like the r V capital of
- 54:52Speaker 13: the world. Yes, yes, so we uh I got an RV.
- 54:56Speaker 13: And then it was my uncle who's a firefighter down
- 55:00Speaker 13: Or and then my parents, my girlfriend and then our
- 55:02Speaker 13: family dog hobbed an RV from South Bend, Indiana, like
- 55:06Speaker 13: a twenty two twenty three hour drive all the way
- 55:08Speaker 13: to uh Miami and I'm just I'm in the back,
- 55:12Speaker 13: you know, just a week at a knee surgery, like
- 55:15Speaker 13: I'm doing the little knee machine, like just falling around
- 55:18Speaker 13: in the back. It's it was. We got real close
- 55:20Speaker 13: to that trip, but it was it was awesome. I know,
- 55:22Speaker 13: I showed up. Everyone's like, what are you doing here?
- 55:24Speaker 13: And I was like, I had to come down for
- 55:26Speaker 13: the game. So I was probab Yeah, I was proud
- 55:28Speaker 13: just to be there with the guys. And I was like,
- 55:30Speaker 13: I didn't especially when we're going so far in the playoffs.
- 55:32Speaker 13: I was like, I didn't want to not be a
- 55:33Speaker 13: part of it. But yeah, that's just like we we
- 55:35Speaker 13: all laugh for like, dude, I think we were all
- 55:37Speaker 13: in horror at by the end of.
- 55:38Speaker 10: The trip, and then you had to drive back.
- 55:41Speaker 13: Well, yeah, people forget about the drive back. Yeah, way
- 55:44Speaker 13: way less fun than the drive there.
- 55:46Speaker 2: Yeah right, that's yeah, twenty two more hours.
- 55:49Speaker 13: Yeah, that one. That one was tough.
- 55:51Speaker 2: That was tough.
- 55:51Speaker 13: I'm just like, yeah, I'm in the back, just like
- 55:53Speaker 13: I don't know where we are, it's dark in here.
- 55:55Speaker 13: And then I'm just hearing you know, the dog, you know, scared.
- 55:58Speaker 2: And you didn't get to drive of course because you injury, right.
- 56:00Speaker 13: No, no, yeah, I'm specifically just like there was a
- 56:03Speaker 13: bed in the back that I was just like posted
- 56:04Speaker 13: up then and then yeah, and we would just stop
- 56:07Speaker 13: at like a BUCkies and I'll go out and be like, oh,
- 56:09Speaker 13: sunlight and go right back then.
- 56:12Speaker 2: That's just a level of dedication to team of Riley Mills. Riley,
- 56:16Speaker 2: you mentioned yesterday when we talked to when you talk
- 56:18Speaker 2: to the group at large, the media at large, that
- 56:20Speaker 2: you know your goals and that you have standards and
- 56:23Speaker 2: you know what they are. What are they? What are
- 56:25Speaker 2: your standards? What are your goals in the NFL year two?
- 56:27Speaker 13: Yeah? I think for me it's just you know, my
- 56:29Speaker 13: brand of football, just being a bully and trying to
- 56:31Speaker 13: be a bull in a china shop. You know, I
- 56:32Speaker 13: think it's kind of easier to it's it's I usually
- 56:35Speaker 13: know it when I see it, and I can tell
- 56:36Speaker 13: when I'm at that standard. And you know, I think
- 56:38Speaker 13: for me right now, it's like can I do this
- 56:40Speaker 13: in practice? But can I do it in games? And
- 56:42Speaker 13: can I keep it going? And you know, for me,
- 56:44Speaker 13: I just want to be as violent as possible and
- 56:46Speaker 13: kind of just take what I did in the super
- 56:47Speaker 13: Bowl and just use that as a launching point and
- 56:49Speaker 13: just try to be as dominant as I can be
- 56:51Speaker 13: and you know, be the best version of myself.
- 56:53Speaker 2: Pretty cool launching point and go into your career. Rilly Mills,
- 56:57Speaker 2: we really appreciate the time, and Seahawk fans, you're gonna
- 56:59Speaker 2: get to know a lot of this guy on the
- 57:01Speaker 2: defensive line now that he's fully healthy. Thank you, sir.
- 57:03Speaker 13: Awesome appreciate it.
- 57:06Speaker 2: Riley Mills, defensive lineman from Notre Dame, defensive end, defensive
- 57:10Speaker 2: tackle on three successive plays yesterday. I saw him play
- 57:12Speaker 2: nose tackle, three technique tackle, and then a defensive end
- 57:15Speaker 2: three plays in a row. That's what the kind of
- 57:17Speaker 2: versatility he provides. Fifth round pick in twenty twenty five
- 57:21Speaker 2: at a Notre Dame that missed almost all of last
- 57:23Speaker 2: season with a reconstructive knee surgery, first career sack in
- 57:26Speaker 2: the Super Bowl by just manhandling two Patriots offensive linemen
- 57:29Speaker 2: and throwing him into Drake May. He really downplayed that
- 57:33Speaker 2: trip from South Bend in an RV a rent at RV,
- 57:37Speaker 2: and then I held deal as he said to Miami, Yeah,
- 57:40Speaker 2: because he just said to all the family dog. But
- 57:43Speaker 2: then he told us as he was walking out about
- 57:45Speaker 2: the family dog.
- 57:46Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, that's the first thing that comes to my
- 57:48Speaker 3: mind is what kind of dog? And he goes, oh,
- 57:51Speaker 3: it's a great dane. A great day, packing your family
- 57:55Speaker 3: into an RV, driving twenty two hours across the country
- 57:59Speaker 3: to get to your team because you can't fly because
- 58:01Speaker 3: you just had reconstructive knee surgery, and you throw a
- 58:05Speaker 3: great dane who apparently was scared into the mix. I
- 58:09Speaker 3: just thought that made it ten times funnier.
- 58:11Speaker 2: And we were like, why didn't you say it in here? Yeah,
- 58:14Speaker 2: he's in He was talking about how he had the
- 58:16Speaker 2: knee extender machine. Those you've had an ACL terror repair.
- 58:19Speaker 3: I've done it. I know exactly I speak that language, and.
- 58:22Speaker 2: The drugs he was taken, and to keep the swelling
- 58:25Speaker 2: down and probably not very comfortable sleep in the back
- 58:28Speaker 2: of an RV. That's what he did to get to
- 58:30Speaker 2: that Orange Bowl game.
- 58:31Speaker 3: The one he could not play in right to be
- 58:33Speaker 3: there with his team.
- 58:34Speaker 2: It was a week after his surgery, and then so
- 58:38Speaker 2: Notre Dame wins the Orange Bowl and they advanced to
- 58:41Speaker 2: the National Championship game against Ohio State in Atlanta. And
- 58:45Speaker 2: he said maybe one of the greatest days of his
- 58:47Speaker 2: life was that Notre Dame cleared him to fly to Atlanta.
- 58:51Speaker 2: They weren't worried about blood cuts an here, so he
- 58:53Speaker 2: didn't have to drive back from South Bend back down
- 58:55Speaker 2: to Atlanta.
- 58:56Speaker 3: No, he did not, But yeah, I got I had
- 59:00Speaker 3: to miss a wedding after my knee surgery because I
- 59:02Speaker 3: couldn't fly and it was on the East Coast, So
- 59:04Speaker 3: I do understand that. And I did not have an
- 59:06Speaker 3: nil deal to take an our feet there. No, But
- 59:13Speaker 3: I just I really want people to get to know him,
- 59:15Speaker 3: and I think that was a really good interview to
- 59:18Speaker 3: get to know him a little better, because he was
- 59:21Speaker 3: extremely understated this year, obviously because he didn't hit the
- 59:24Speaker 3: field until later in the season, but his first career
- 59:28Speaker 3: sack happened in the Super Bowl, and he has a ring.
- 59:31Speaker 3: And also he's just a cool dude.
- 59:33Speaker 2: Yeah he is.
- 59:34Speaker 3: He gives offensive lineman vibes even though he's on the
- 59:36Speaker 3: defensive lines.
- 59:38Speaker 2: Spoken like a daughter of a long time line coaching
- 59:42Speaker 2: college coach.
- 59:44Speaker 3: My dad played offensive line in college and the NFL
- 59:47Speaker 3: and then coached defense, so I've seen both sides.
- 59:51Speaker 2: Riley Mills, as I mentioned yesterday, playing three different positions
- 59:54Speaker 2: in three snaps. He's been living in the backfield so
- 59:56Speaker 2: far in training camp, he provides it. We talked about
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: the depth last year, and as great as the Seahawks
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: defense was, it still wasn't as deep as the legion
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: of Boom teams that would go ten to eleven guys
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: hockey line changes in the first quarter of games on
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: the defensive line and eventually just wear teams out and
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: wear offensive linemen out. By the fourth quarter of the
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: offensive line over gassed in the defensive line had just
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: played forty percent of snaps because they'd been rotating so much.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: Not last year's team, they didn't have that depth. But
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: Riley Mills himself can provide that depth because if he's
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: playing multiple spots, that means Leonard Williams can move around
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: or sometimes take plays off if Mills is coming in
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: for him. Jaren Reid can play multiple positions inside and out. Oh,
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: by the way, some guy named Byron Murphy really excelled
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: when he started moving around the defensive line from nose
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: out to end last year. Now you got three guys
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: like that when Mills is in there, and that is
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: huge for this team. He's it is something they didn't
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: have for as I mentioned all the way into December opener.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: As he mentioned his first game was in December against
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: Philip Rivers and the Indianapolis Colts. You heard him say,
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: they just said, hey, you're going to play next week.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: I haven't played since December, okay. And then he was
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: in twelve months later as his debut for the Seahawks.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: But they didn't have him all last year. And now
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: they have him, and now he's healthy and he had
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: an entire offseason to learn the defense and the defense
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: to learn him and the teammates know him now. He
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: got a lot of cashet in that locker room when
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: he had that super sack in the Super Bowl.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: One hundred percent. I mean imagine that being essentially your
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: debut on a national stage. I mean it wasn't his
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: necessarily NFL debut, but that was kind of his coming
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: out party right there. And I just remember exactly where
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: I was. I was there in Sanford, Sorry, Santa Clara,
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: I was there, and I got to see it, and I.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: Was like, oh, righty moves, this.
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: Is so awesome.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: Celebrate. Remember the celebration.
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: It was awesome.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: It was like he scored a touchdown.
- 1:01:58Speaker 10: Yes it was.
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: But that's how tight that locker room is. And also
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: it tells you how much the Seahawks saw in him
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: when drafting him. While he did have that injury. I
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: wonder how much higher he would have gone if not
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: for that injury. But I think he ended up in
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: the perfect spot for him. And you talk about his versatility,
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: and that is something that Mike McDonald you just mentioned
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: that Byron Murphy has seen more success in his versatility,
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: and I think it not only provides depth, but also
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: confusion for an offense.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: If you missed our talk with Riley Mills and or
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: just caught the end of it, go to the iHeartRadio
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: app download nine through three KJR, or just go to
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: our website nine through three KGr dot com The Greg
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: Bell Show. There's a tab there with our podcast. They'll
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: be up after the show ends. Really good discussion. It
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: gives you a little bit of a scene behind the
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: scene and his path back from that reconstructive surgeon. I
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: still I'm laughing about a Great Dane in the back
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: of an RV for twenty.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: Two hours with the whole family you know me machine
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: like the you know, try to get the range of moment,
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: range of movement back and all that. Yeah, range of
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: motion whatever they call it. Yeah, I could just and
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: he's just stuck. He's just stuck. And then there's a
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: scared great Dane just around.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: What a steplo that must have been now here here
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: He is a Seahawks on the starting defense of a
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: Super Bowl champion with a Super Bowl ring. Already great
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: year for Riley Mills. Up next, your chance to be
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: a part of the show. Four nine, four five one
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: in the Commodage tech Line. Hopefully we have a couple
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: of talkbacks too. I don't know. Jessman really demands.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: That please don't make me scold you anything.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: You'd like to talk about whatever's on your mind. We'll
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: talk about next on ninety three point three KJRFF.
- 1:04:00Speaker 14: Good morning, Jessmon and Greg. After watching the Dodgers game,
- 1:04:04Speaker 14: I wonder if this team needs to play some really,
- 1:04:07Speaker 14: really tough competition to get them fired up. I wonder
- 1:04:12Speaker 14: if they need to know that they can beat the
- 1:04:14Speaker 14: Dodgers in case they see them in the series, and
- 1:04:19Speaker 14: if they just need to know that they can win
- 1:04:23Speaker 14: these games.
- 1:04:24Speaker 13: And I think this could be a really good series
- 1:04:26Speaker 13: for us.
- 1:04:27Speaker 14: I'm hopeful go Ems.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: Yeah, that would be the presumed opponent if the Parts
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: can somehow even get out of the America League West.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: They've messed themselves up in but there's some true I mean,
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: they were fired up. LUs it helps when they win
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: when they're losing.
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: Their to see the fire.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: Yeah, there was some fire. And that team has not
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: had fire at times this year, and it's been perplexing
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: and frustrating and maddening and all of that.
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: Well, you know, Lowe's continue to make things low and
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: then you know, if it's just one game that all
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: of a sudden, you see fire, Give me that, Give
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: that keep her going exactly. Yeah, not like real fire.
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: I know it's mild fire season, so I wasn't talking
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: about that.
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: Four nine one is the Tacoma dot checker on the
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: iHeartRadio app or our website nine two three KJR dot
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: com with the red microphone buttons where you can do
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: your talkbacks. But the text line is four nine four
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: to five one sponsored by Tacoma Dodge. Sam Darnod. You
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: heard him talk earlier in the show. Sam played lights
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: out is from the four two five. Sam played lights
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: out during the NFC Conference championship game and did fine
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: in the Super Bowl. There's nothing wrong in kicking field
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: goals to increase the lead instead of going for it
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: like other short sighted coaches. Yep, Mike McDonald knew it
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: the whole game, just like he knew it in Week
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: eighteen down in Santa Clara. The offense just don't turn
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: it over, get a couple first downs, let Michael Dixon
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: pin the defense, put the defense in an advantageous position,
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: pinning the opposing offense against its goal line, and let
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: him try to drive ninety yards to score.
- 1:06:07Speaker 13: Well.
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: And Sam said as much too that you know his
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: dream was to you know, throw four hundred yards in
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: the Super Bowl, right, But he knew what he had
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: to do, and he saw what was happening, and he
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: admitted that he said that.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: And the flip side, of course, is in the positive.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: It was easier for him to discard the Super Bowl
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: and be motivated to be better because he didn't think
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: he played well in that game, missing some key throws.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Like we talked about earlier in the show four two five,
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: concientious articulation tell I should say that with more articulation.
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: I was going to say my speech therapist wife would
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: want me to say that with more articulation. Conscientious articulation
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: tells more about Sam than the events in facts he highlighted.
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: Tells you about the details he focuses on in his life.
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: I asked you at the top of the show, what
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: were your favorite moments of the mariners explicable win last
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: night over the Dodgers in LA four to two five.
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: I had two favorite moments from last night's game. The
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: first was the second home run by Canzone. Not because
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: of the significance of the home run, but the fact
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: that he hit it with intent two fifteen feet of
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: the first one. That was really impressive, to within fifteen
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: feet of the first It did land almost where the
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: first one did. And the black back ground hitting backstop
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: to dead center field. For me, the most important favorite
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: part I like in the game was after Julio hit
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: his home run. Aaron Goldsmith's and Mariners TV reported that
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: it was the first time that he and cal It
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: hit a home run in the same game since April.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: Wow, I did not know that that. It was not
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: as sad I was paying attention to me, to be honest,
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: but huh interesting.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: That could sure help them down the stretch.
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: Uh, if I can continue, it's sure good.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: Favorite part of last night's game watching the slow reprey
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: excuse me slow replay. Well, Wendy's going to be so
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: many I know, I know, unfortunately she has a real
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: job with real patience right now. But favorite bart last
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: night's game is watching the slow replay over Robleski dropping
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: an F bomb the Dodger starter when Julio hit his
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: home run.
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: I do love those slip readings, and.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: Now the cameras of the slow motion replay they can
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: pick up on all that.
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: It's pretty easy. Sometimes we don't need a John Boy
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: for everything.
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right, These jobs easy on that one Rick
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: from the two five to three Dom's bat flip was amazing.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: It wasn't so much as a flip as a dismissive.
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: Oh, just so it's gone. Like he both hands. It
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: wasn't like a you know, a toss. It was just bye, bat,
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: don't need you anymore. That one's gone. Oh. I watched
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: it over and over again.
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: Michael from the two five three says the Victor Rode
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: Blaze moment of someone of throwing the ball out of
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: his glove from the warning track with Otani run around
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: the bases has to be the best for the fact,
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: if we had lost that game, this would have been
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: some That play would have summed up the season so
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: poetically perfect. But we grounded out and they showed themselves.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: We ground out the win and we showed themselves we
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: ain't dead yet. Go ms continue to refuse to lose.
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: They're not though, That's the thing, and that's the fire
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: I was talking about, Like give me fire and no.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: No, when if you will give me fire, give me
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: that desire.
- 1:09:16Speaker 13: Wow.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: Pretty good. We came out of nowhere this one.
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: Sorry, but it just I said it so I had
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: to make the reference.
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: I know a lot of you don't want to hear it,
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: but they really aren't totally out of this when they're
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: only two and a half back of a terrible division,
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: a terrible division. But this is what Chris sports is crazy,
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: isn't it. Yesterday we're talking about how terrible they were
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: in Texas, how they lose three out of four. Now
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: they're going to go to Dodger State EUM and get swept.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: What is going on? And they win one game out
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: of one sixty two and we're talking about, Hey, they're
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: not dead and wow.
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: Yes, especially especially baseball because of how long the season is, right,
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: it's constant.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: But this division is just so so bad that any
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: hot streak at all and they're gonna be in first place,
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: even from two and a half back, but four or five.
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: So a low streak from you know, one of the
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: other two Texas jerks.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: Which is coming the season, says it's coming five hundreds
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: leading the division right now, so yeah, it's coming.
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: Okay, we have a little bit of a shift here.
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: But another talk back came in, and as I love
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: your voices, I always want to feature though.
- 1:10:28Speaker 15: Hey Greg, Hey Jess, So I got a question for
- 1:10:30Speaker 15: you guys. The Army Navy game. It's a great game,
- 1:10:33Speaker 15: but I think you should be a standalone game. What
- 1:10:35Speaker 15: do you guys think about moving from instead at the
- 1:10:36Speaker 15: end of the season, two week zero and it's the
- 1:10:39Speaker 15: first game all sports everything, they have the center of
- 1:10:42Speaker 15: attention just on that game only, and then we start
- 1:10:45Speaker 15: the season from then on.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: I think that's the greatest way to do that. Here
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: is why that will never happen. It would never stand
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: alone in August because of a reason unique to the
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: service academies. In mid August, the cadets and the midshipman
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: are still out on military training. We don't just go
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: home and kick back and go on the beach for
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: the In military academies, you go for on summer training
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: and you go to an active military base. You go
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: to an Army base or a Navy base, and you shadow.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: You job shadow, like Zach mcfarman's doing today. You job
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: shadow lieutenants. I stayed at lieutenant in Sackets Harbor, New York,
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: on Lake Ontario at Fort Drummond. One of my summers,
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: I was in a recruiting battalion in Columbus, Ohio. Learning
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: at the recruiting battion I was an eye opening experience
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: learning about military recruiting of high schoolers. One of my summers,
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: I was in field training and Upstate New York, I
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: was in airborne school at Fort Benning in one of
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: my summers. So you do all of that in your
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: three four summers there, they don't get back. We don't
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: get back from those until late August, beginning of September.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: So you can't play football in August because you'd have
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: to have training camps and all that. Now the football
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: players have their training military training front loaded, so that July,
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: end of July they're done, so they can't do preseason
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: football practice. But you can't have a game in mid
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: mid to late August when you've got guys still out
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: on military training to the first of August. So that's
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: the reason. The other reason is tradition. That if any
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: game in college sports follows tradition and wants to stay with,
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: it's the Army Navy game. And there is a there
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: are a lot. There's a lot that goes into that.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: Hotel rooms, travel plans, the cadets schedule, the final exam schedule,
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: the academic schedule, all of that comes into play. It's
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: just not like let's move the game and do it.
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: There's a lot that goes into the background to.
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: That when it is still a standalone when it's played,
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: it is still its own correct.
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: But the expanding college football playoff threatens to change that.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: It does. And President Trump, in fact, is trying to
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: sign an executive order who enforced that the Army Navy
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: game stands to remain stand alone. And say what you
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: will about that, but that's what he's trying to do.
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: Is and then that may end up being that from
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: noon until three on a Saturday, the second Saturday in December,
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: you can't have a college football playoff game. It may
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: end up being just a window instead of a day.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: It used to be. The Army Navy game was right
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: before the SEC Championship game, an ABC doubleheader when I
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: was in school in the early nineties. So it could
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: be something like that where the college football player games.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: But good question, I appreciate it, but there's a lot
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: more it meets to the eye there.
- 1:13:24Speaker 10: Well, that's why I.
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: Wanted to play that, so that you could explain why
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: that wouldn't work.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: Yeah, And it immediately came to mind, was the military
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: training in the summer. I was all over the we
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: had kidet's all over the world during military training in
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: July and August every summer. Thanks for asking. It's a
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: good question, and a lot of people, of course that
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: wouldn't have gone through it wouldn't know that what else
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: we got on there.
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: There were a couple very much appreciating the Riley Mills interview.
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: If you saw a couple of those, we are greg
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: excellent interview. This coming from the two five three excellent
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: interview with Mills. It's hard to imagine a seahawk declining
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: an interview with you. You're so kind and personable with players.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: Not everyone think that. I appreciate that. Not everyone agrees,
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: but thank you. Well.
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: I think people got to know Mills a little bit
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: more throughout that interview too, where we have not really
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: heard from him except for podium after the Super Bowl
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: things like that. We haven't really had a one on
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: one situation with him, and I'm glad they got to
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: know him.
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I appreciate that. Thanks for the Hey, Hey, Greg,
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: I know this is an odd question from two oh six,
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: but how is Drew Locke looking? Heaven forbid, Sam Donald
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: gets hurt and we need Drew to carry the load.
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: He looks steady, He looks like he's very comfortable. The
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: offense of Brian Fleury is. Sam Donald mentioned yesterday that
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: the offense is very similar in verbiage to what Kin kuby,
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: and that makes sense because they're both from the Shanahan
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: Tree and the forty nine or system, but that Brian
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: Fleury's Cooper Cup was also talking about this yesterday that
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: it's not so much that the words have changes that
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: there's some different emphasis. Drew Lock looks good, he looks comfortable.
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: He's accurate throwing. He definitely and has come in in
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: a pinch and won games for this team as a
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: starter when they needed him. I will also say this
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: about Brian Flurry's new offense. You're going to see a
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: lot more I think throws to the tight ends and
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: a lot more throws to the running backs. One is
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: that Price is getting I mean, that's just all he
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: does anymore. Is seemed to be throwing passes. They throw
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: passes twom in the cafeteria I think, and the tight
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: ends because remember the defensive or new offense coordinator, Brian
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: Fleury was the forty nine Ers tight end coach for
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: half a dozen seasons. He's just not going to forget
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: about what he knows the best, and he's got one
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: in A J. Barner. I told Chuck this morning, I
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: think A J. Barn is going to have a Pro
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: Bowl on the cuss of all pro season in this offense.
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: This year. He's healthier. He had his shoulder and his
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: ankle surgeries that had cleaned up the issues that he
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: played through last year. And he's going to get a
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: ton of opportunities because of how Brian Fleury thinks.
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: I got one more.
- 1:16:00Speaker 16: Yea incoming, g Bell, jess my face, Joel here as
- 1:16:04Speaker 16: always army in the under real quick. Why all the
- 1:16:08Speaker 16: hate on a Rose Arena? I love the Morning Show?
- 1:16:10Speaker 16: They said it too, no way he should be back
- 1:16:13Speaker 16: this and that. Julio struggles, he gets blasted. We gotta
- 1:16:17Speaker 16: start holding Cal accountable.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: He's supposed to be the captain.
- 1:16:20Speaker 16: Neylor gets blasted, Julio gets blasted.
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: Gino ran out of town.
- 1:16:24Speaker 16: Col's gotta step up your captain camp Bat one sixty.
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: Love you guys. Thanks, Joel.
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: I got a guy, I get a chance.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: Yes, I happen to like a Rose Arena as a player.
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: I know he's infuriating at times and he looks like
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: he's not running and all those things, I think I
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: like him as I like him, and I think he
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: gives him something that they don't have, which is some
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: slug and some ability to get on bays and they
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: need that's in the premium right now. And I'm not
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: mistaking any bats on the right side. So all those
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: things considered, yeah, I still think that ta Osco Hernandez
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: letting him go. We saw him last night batting eight
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: for the Dodgers. What kind of lineup is it when
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: the home run derby champion is batting eight. The Mariners
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: could still use that guy. They said he struck out
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: too much, but yeah, it's they don't know what you
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: got till it's gone, and they need the pop that
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: Randy Rose Arena provides for sure. The Mayor and Maple
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: Valley Ian for Nass is around here somewhere here in
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: the elliot By Studios. He's going to join us next
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: to say what he's got coming up on ninety three

- 1:18:04Speaker 2: mandates every five days to get a day off from
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: the field. I owe you a keyword on our contest
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: bonus bucks presented by Bellevue Rare coins your cash.

- 1:18:38Speaker 2: coog Jessen McIntyre senior rising senior kug Zach McFarlane.
- 1:18:43Speaker 17: From rising s. I like, what's a rising senior?
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: I was not following.
- 1:18:47Speaker 17: I'll tell you right now. I was a declining senior.
- 1:18:50Speaker 17: You were face down senor.
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: That was I declined.
- 1:18:52Speaker 18: I was a declining sophomore, really declining junior and no
- 1:18:56Speaker 18: help senior at that point. I think it was, but
- 1:18:58Speaker 18: it was. We were talking all the year. It was
- 1:19:00Speaker 18: a little different times back then, a little different times,
- 1:19:03Speaker 18: much more of the wild West back then.
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: The Home of the Huskies has three cougars with headphones
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: and microphones.
- 1:19:08Speaker 18: Right now, I'm not one and a whole bunch of
- 1:19:10Speaker 18: them out there working in the sales staff too, and yeah,
- 1:19:13Speaker 18: all over the place.
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: Yeah, what do you have today, sir?
- 1:19:18Speaker 17: What are we doing today?
- 1:19:20Speaker 18: D Anthony Bell was going to join us, Yes, sir,
- 1:19:22Speaker 18: I talked to him yesterday after practice. We'll have that
- 1:19:24Speaker 18: at twelve thirty. Just everything that all of you guys
- 1:19:28Speaker 18: said he was and then and then some. I just
- 1:19:30Speaker 18: was inspired by the conversation with him. He part was
- 1:19:33Speaker 18: the dad in me, you know, the perseverance he had,
- 1:19:37Speaker 18: small school, not a lot of looks, worked for a year,
- 1:19:41Speaker 18: went back, got his degree. Here he is, and you know,
- 1:19:45Speaker 18: you and I were talking yesterday a little bit. He's
- 1:19:47Speaker 18: a guy that I think you know a year ago.
- 1:19:50Speaker 18: He's a fringe guy. I locke is probably too strong
- 1:19:54Speaker 18: a word, but he this feels like a fifty three
- 1:19:56Speaker 18: man roster guy. I don't think they're messing around with
- 1:20:00Speaker 18: moving him, you know, back and forth with the practice
- 1:20:02Speaker 18: squad anymore. They learned their lesson with him last year, right,
- 1:20:05Speaker 18: so we'll check in with him at twelve thirty. Really
- 1:20:07Speaker 18: fun conversation.
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: I would.
- 1:20:08Speaker 17: I think people enjoy getting to know him.
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 1:20:11Speaker 18: So that's twelve thirty. We'll check in with Eddie Old Chuck.
- 1:20:14Speaker 18: All right, only Eddie oldcheck is going to join us
- 1:20:16Speaker 18: coming up at one o'clock ed Zone. He'll tell you
- 1:20:19Speaker 18: why he's stepping away from the cracking broadcast. And it's
- 1:20:21Speaker 18: not ESPN or Portland Trailblazer like, it's his decision that's
- 1:20:25Speaker 18: coming up at one o'clock. Looking forward to that, and
- 1:20:27Speaker 18: then we'll check in with Corbyn Smith at two pm
- 1:20:30Speaker 18: and his impressions. We got to bust his chops because
- 1:20:32Speaker 18: Jayo and Miller had a good practice yesterday and he's
- 1:20:34Speaker 18: the president of the Jaylen Milroll Hate Clubs, so we're
- 1:20:36Speaker 18: gonna be.
- 1:20:37Speaker 17: All over him for that.
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: We were teasing him on every time.
- 1:20:40Speaker 18: He was getting all pissed off every complete Milroe was
- 1:20:44Speaker 18: good yesterday, very good. Like I I you know, I
- 1:20:47Speaker 18: didn't see a lot of it because I'm in the
- 1:20:48Speaker 18: end zone during the game, but there was a I
- 1:20:50Speaker 18: think he was telling you, like the one pass he
- 1:20:52Speaker 18: through to Cody White in the end zone, a little
- 1:20:54Speaker 18: red zone play like it was I'm like, wow, who
- 1:20:57Speaker 18: was that?
- 1:20:57Speaker 17: And I looked at damn was that? Milroe was a
- 1:20:59Speaker 17: hell of a throw? Hell of a thrill.
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: He had three more like that too.
- 1:21:02Speaker 17: Yeah, so easily his best practice right.
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: In two seasons and two train camps.
- 1:21:07Speaker 17: But I've seen what do you think about Dansby so far?
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: Really good? Yeah, tight on coverage. Yeah, they don't mind
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: preying and pressed with him. Right, seventh round pick looking
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: a lot better than that, a.
- 1:21:17Speaker 17: Lot better than that, a lot better than that. We'll
- 1:21:19Speaker 17: talk about him too.
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: Speaking about the secondary, Adam Shafner ESPN reporting the former
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: Cowboys starter at safety Donovan Wilson is working out today
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: with the Seahawks. Of course, Aden Dirty, a former Cowboys
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: assistant coach.
- 1:21:29Speaker 18: Basically, if you played for him, you come here, don't you.
- 1:21:33Speaker 18: Seems like which speaks volumes about who he is. Yes,
- 1:21:36Speaker 18: as a coach. The guys absolutely, they trust him and
- 1:21:39Speaker 18: people want to play for him.
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: Adam Dirty is a name to watch in the coaching
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: carousel at the end of this season. I heard he
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: had pressed Atlanta and Cleveland in his interviews last time.
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: Mike McDonald might be bracing for another departure of his coordinators.
- 1:21:52Speaker 17: That's good news, though, because it means you're doing well.
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: Infiness is up next from twelve until three he'll make
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: up some keyword to put on the website for a
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: chance to win one thousand dollars direct Zach McFarlane appreciate it.
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: Good luck to you, sir at Washington State. It's good
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: to have you here. Jess and McIntyre will be back
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: with me tomorrow, be at Seahawks training camp for Day five.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: Ends up next on ninety three point three KJRFM.
