- 1:47are back then. How mean we saw a couple of screeners, well one
- 1:53out of tube us me. Ain't gonna let him know all that, You
- 1:57know what I mean? I was their spirit. You just just you hate
- 2:01to see You don't mean I wasn't there. I was always there. I'm
- 2:07always around. Don't worry about that. I'll be seeing things even without Um.
- 2:12You know what, um one comic book or live action comic book universe
- 2:17has been going through some things for quite some time. And uh, they
- 2:22are going into a metamorphosis right now. UM, I don't even know.
- 2:27We're calling this movie as a start of the metamorphosis or like the tail end
- 2:30of the old metamorphosis. You can we we could we could say this.
- 2:37It depends on how much this opening weekend goes down. I think is that
- 2:40that really that will determine the fate of the lightning bolted superhero we are discussing,
- 2:47yes, and that superhero discussing is Shazam himself. This is about Shazam,
- 2:53Fury of the Gods. This is the sequel to the Shazam film.
- 2:57What one of the original Shazam film came out? Let me see, I'll
- 3:00go like, I feel like it's been forever, like I meant. Okay,
- 3:07this premiered, uh, March twenty eight, twenty nineteen, So this
- 3:10was before Pandemic. And honestly, because the Pandemic is such a black coal
- 3:15of time and space, it could have came out in fucking nineteen ninety nine
- 3:20at this point and it would have still felt the same, just in terms
- 3:23of how long it's been. Oh okay, Uh, I mean it was.
- 3:28It was solid, you know, I like the first one, but
- 3:30it definitely had that old timey feel to it. Okay, Well it was
- 3:35okay. So it was theatrically released April fifth, twenty nineteen, So it's
- 3:38been a long time. It's now twenty twenty three, uh since we got
- 3:43the sequel. Um what No, here's the thing that I mean. Um,
- 3:47I still just I'm just giving an overall, this is still one of
- 3:52the DC's better movies. Um. And again, I don't know where you're
- 3:54pointing this in the in the timeline of these. Are you talking about the
- 3:59soon to be Dead DCU or the newly DCU, which is supposed to you
- 4:03know, fix everything alive James Gunn. So, I mean it's it's still
- 4:09one of the better DC movies. So I mean, where does that And
- 4:13like you said, maybe just depends on how much money this thing makes.
- 4:15Um sadly, but it is a fun movie. Okay, it's a fun
- 4:23movie. It's in line with the first film. If you enjoyed the first
- 4:28exam, you're definitely gonna enjoy this zam show. Zamum. Some of the
- 4:32some of the commonly from the comedy to the dialogue is all very familiar territory.
- 4:39Um. Not a lot of annoying retreads if you would like, you
- 4:43know, like doing like the same joke over and over again. Um,
- 4:45But it has the same air about it. Like at the end of the
- 4:47day. Shazam is about a kid that becomes a superhero, right, and
- 4:51he has his power. He looks like a grown as man, but he
- 4:55is a child and you can tell that and you can tell that in his
- 5:00the way he approaches life, his psyche, his attitude, like the way
- 5:02he carries himself. That's a boy, right, that's a young boy at
- 5:04the end of the day. And then as we saw in the original film.
- 5:09You saw that he brought his family into it, his his adoptive brothers
- 5:11and sisters. So you get to see the Shazam family. You get to
- 5:14see these kids that are now imbued with these godpowers, and it overall just
- 5:18was a very fun film. It's a great family film. I will say
- 5:23that there's some lightweight cusin in it. Yes, there is there that'd be
- 5:27said. There was a lot of kids in the screening. There was.
- 5:30There was a huge contingent of kids in that screening actually, and um so
- 5:33I think they were like maybe nine ten on up. So, um again,
- 5:40I don't know how y'all deal with you'all kids who ask kids if you
- 5:42don't want them here and cussin and acting out. But it's but it's the
- 5:44typical stuff, like you know, not some of the weird potty humor,
- 5:48some of the you know, like again the funny cursing, the funny half
- 5:51cursing, the funny half jokes. But sexual there's some sexual innu windows involving
- 5:58one superhero and particular this female superhero from the Justice League. You can go
- 6:02ahead and say that because DC decided to Warner Brothers decided to put that into
- 6:06commercials. I saw I saw it earlier today. Okay, so wonder woman,
- 6:11there's lots of and nothing. And let me be clear, it's nothing
- 6:15like two over or too sexualized. It's just like you know, boy crush
- 6:19type stuff. So so nothing. But but again, I I had original.
- 6:26I have always felt like the original, the first and let me I
- 6:28say original, but the first Chazam was. It was fun, it was
- 6:30a good time, and especially because it came out in a state of all
- 6:33of the dour, dark DC films that to me, were the same.
- 6:38It was the same, the same, the same, dour and dark.
- 6:41Oh I'm so I'm so sad. Oh I'm so powerful Zack Snyder. All
- 6:46right, And then came Shazam. I was like, oh, good,
- 6:48something different, something that's a little bit more lighthearted, something that doesn't take
- 6:53itself too seriously, but there are serious consequences. And I got that again,
- 6:58which is Zam too. Okay. So for those who are like,
- 7:04you know, like kind of unfamiliar or where what's the status roll of Shazam
- 7:10and his family at the beginning of the film, because like you said,
- 7:13at the end of the last from they all had godlike powers. They're all
- 7:16chilling in the rock, you know, I know they're making the Rock of
- 7:19Eternity their home now, or they're they're hideout, etc. So what like
- 7:25what are they at and what what you know, what kind of conflict problems
- 7:29they got? Right? So it's actually and actually really like that. It
- 7:33was just a continuation. It was pretty much like they picked up where they
- 7:36left off, which I liked. It wasn't it was maybe I don't remember
- 7:40how old Billy was in the first one, but he's almost eighteen now,
- 7:44so I don't know a little younger than that. So he was like,
- 7:46what's he like fifteen? Maybe? Yeah, maybe, Okay, Well he's
- 7:50he's according he's five months away from being eighteen and so so that I don't
- 7:55know that, say three years, right, you see that progression of time.
- 7:59You see it in the progression of time and the kids. But the
- 8:00kids still generally look young, right, and you we pick up where they
- 8:05left off, like you see that they've had their powers for a while now,
- 8:09so they're out doing you know, fighting crimes, doing superhero teams,
- 8:13trying to save the day in Philly. Remember their children, so they're not
- 8:18going to get it right all the time, right, So that's actually played
- 8:20up to pretty much hilarious effect throughout the film that you can see like they
- 8:26trying to do their best to save people and do the right thing, but
- 8:28being children, they make mistakes. Being inexperienced as superheroes, let alone as
- 8:33people in life, you know, they don't exactly get stuff right the first
- 8:39time. But but yeah, you can get to see them, how they're
- 8:41hanging out in there and their lair, how they interacting with each other,
- 8:46how they live their life as I think they go from middle school on up
- 8:50to high school at this point their ages. So and then the oldest one,
- 8:54the oldest girls, she's like she would have been college age or she
- 8:56is college aged by now. Okay, And as far as like the conflicts
- 9:01that they're it's kind of what I said, like just learning how to navigate
- 9:05the disasters that happen randomly, you know, because this is still a world
- 9:09fill of superheroes. They are based in Philly, so all the disasters and
- 9:13the destruction is happening in like the heart of Philly. So they're over there
- 9:16just you know, showing out for the city. Okay, So once then
- 9:22and then we have some new villains in this because I know that was one
- 9:26thing in the end. I think it was the end credits of the first
- 9:31am they hinted that they were gonna go with mister Mind, who is like
- 9:35this little caterpillar who's super smart or something. I think you might be telepathic,
- 9:41and I know they didn't follow up with that in this film. So
- 9:46who are the villains? I will say, Okay, well I'll get to
- 9:50that later. But the villains are Calice, well really the daughters of Atlas
- 9:54pay by Helen Miren, Lucy Lou and what is the other young girl's name
- 10:03of Rachel Zegler. So they play Hespera and Thea and Calypso okay, so
- 10:09they literally are these Greek or this Greek they they played the the embodiment of
- 10:15these Greek gods and goddesses and basically, like if you know the the acronym
- 10:20shazam is actually stands for the Greek like heroes or they know, the different
- 10:26um like Solomon, the Wisdom of Solomons. These are hermes, yeah,
- 10:37Mercury, you know, like yeah, So what they did was they just
- 10:43dove further into that mythology, the Greek mythology, and they came up with
- 10:46these three villains who are now like as you know, Shazam, the Shazam
- 10:50fam are imbued with these powers. These powers came from somewhere. They came
- 10:54from Atlas uh, you know, the Titan god. And apparently it was
- 11:01stolen from them. So they're now back to take it to the rightfle owners.
- 11:05M okay, and that means killing these kids. And that means killing
- 11:09the kids, that means killing anybody that gets in their way. Fuck human
- 11:13humanity, really but fuck humanity, fus Philly all this other stuff. So
- 11:18bodies get dropped, niggah. There's a lot of body And here's the thing
- 11:22for this to be such a it's actually and again it is a cool family
- 11:26film. There's a lot of bodies getting dropped. And wow, um and
- 11:30my bodies a drop. I don't mean like John Wick style, like you
- 11:33don't see blood everywhere, but you do see some brutal hits like and pretty
- 11:39much like within even the first like five in the first ten minutes, you
- 11:41see some brutal shit happening. You do see some you know, magical type
- 11:46deaths. You do see some route forced tarma type death or implied deaths,
- 11:50if you will, And you do get to see that throughout the film,
- 11:54but you don't really see blood. So people get disintegrated, that type of
- 11:58thing, all of that shit faded, drop on their heads, thrown around
- 12:03like rag dolls. You see all that. And actually, for me,
- 12:07I actually commented that because this felt more like if it was animated right where
- 12:11it's like, yeah, there's some things that it may appeal to the younger
- 12:15audience and kids and things like that are families, if you will, But
- 12:18then it's also like, bro, at the end of the day, these
- 12:20are people with God powers who are fighting each other. When you got the
- 12:26power of Zeus and I got the power of Zeus, and we come again
- 12:28and smack the shit out each other. Something gone break right, some some
- 12:31shit gonna shake so and you just get to see that. And I do
- 12:33appreciate that they didn't hold back on that, right, even if it's kids,
- 12:37even if it's someone who's beloved, like someone's dying, and like,
- 12:41they make it pretty clear. Okay, even the bystanders. Goddamn sorry for
- 12:48you guys. Wow, So is it like on the level of a what
- 12:56was that man of Steel type destruction? Wow? Yeah, it's it's wide
- 13:03scale the city of Philly. Wow, yeah, for real. Now the
- 13:11whole thing, I just say, you say, man, it'sil like what
- 13:13about manus was? I mean, it was a lot of fucking shock in
- 13:16the city went up. Philly goes up in this tool. By the end
- 13:20of that joint, that dude was standing in the rubble of metropolis. And
- 13:24then say it's not a rubble waste land. No, yeah, but you
- 13:26do get heavy, wide scale damage. The city takes damage. My god,
- 13:33this is fucking two smash brothers damage more than that I heard. I
- 13:37heard they wreck up the foot the baseball stadium. Oh yeah that that damn
- 13:43man, that that that shit. Whoof that's that's damna essential. So yeah,
- 13:48you get, you get. I mean, you get collateral damage all
- 13:50over the place. You get structural damage everywhere. Like they there's there's no
- 13:54there's nothing sacred. And that's okay with me. Like my thing is they
- 13:58made it. This is on what this was right, Like I guess it's
- 14:01PG. Thirteen or whatever. Like they're like, this is not a kids
- 14:03movie, but it's also it's not no TV and may type shit. It's
- 14:07like right there, firmly in the middle. I just don't. I mean
- 14:11the Shazam cry after all this. Yeah, no, so so that's the
- 14:16thing, and that's aw let's talk about that because that's what I liked about
- 14:18the first Saxam field. Its still had heart. Like I said, how
- 14:24I enjoy the first one very differently from the other. How I didn't really
- 14:28care about the rest of them, the DCU because it was so dark and
- 14:33no one had fucking feelings and everything's brooding, where As Shazam niggas had feelings,
- 14:37right, people talked about things silly or not. It was it felt
- 14:41more relative, relatable, and I still got that, and you get that
- 14:45here, like there's a there are some heartfelt scenes in this right, there
- 14:48are some things that you know, it's very much family. Like there's there's
- 14:52even fucking fast and furious jokes in here about family, so right, and
- 14:56and that's why like like that like it's a joke, but it's but it's
- 15:00made but that that feeling that family above everything is literally one of the themes
- 15:05of this film. And family sticks together. So like, yeah, we
- 15:07make the jokes about about the Vin Diesel family stuff, but it's like dead
- 15:11ass, like this is the driving force for Shazam himself, but also the
- 15:16rest of the characters and why things happen, like and it's really actually it's
- 15:22not actually a really sweet moment that that is tearworthy and I was like,
- 15:26oh shit, okay, they really they really did something cute here. Okay,
- 15:30Okay, So I think you've talked about what you like enough. Um,
- 15:35you know, I know you everyone like I enjoy what's his name,
- 15:39Zachary uh Levy levi eye. Yeah right, that's this character. Yeah,
- 15:46oh no, no, that's his character. Yes, I love I love
- 15:48as this he's fantastic. Okay that but as his character. Okay, Um,
- 15:52well I guess that's it. Um. But I like the rest of
- 15:58the like you know, transformed. But they really didn't get much shine in
- 16:00the first one. Do they get more shine in this one? Because like,
- 16:03yeah, yes, And I'm glad you said that, because that's one
- 16:07of the things that's like you you you get, I mean, it really
- 16:10just literally pours it in the movie happens yea fan, Right, there's no
- 16:14time to introduce people, and you know, some of the people still show,
- 16:17especially like little Little Black Girl Darla, Like, you know, you
- 16:19want to see more of these people and you do get to see a lot
- 16:22more of them. You do see some you see them grow up a little
- 16:26bit, you see some of their reveals um as of as they grow.
- 16:30And when I say that, I mean some of the reveals of their personhood.
- 16:32Right, like these are still like like Darlas still baby girl, Darlas,
- 16:36she's still sweet and cute. Um Then as I mentioned the old as
- 16:40the eldest child, she's like college a so you get a little bit of
- 16:42her ankst there obviously Billy himself who's growing up and and and coming to terms.
- 16:48And then all the all the other kids, like the other brothers that
- 16:51are part of the family, like you see you get to see glimpses of
- 16:53them. Now do you get to see everyone? Does everyone have equal screen
- 16:56time? No, but you do get to see a lot more of the
- 17:00kids and their interactions. Okay, I really wouldn't expect that. But I'm
- 17:03also talking about because we saw the kids all through the first one, I'm
- 17:07talking about their counterparts, like who is it a Megan Good? I think
- 17:11who's playing so the movie they're good about that. They actually switched back and
- 17:15forth pretty evenly. I felt, Yeah, so you get to see enough
- 17:18Megan, good enough enough of the I want to say her name, that
- 17:22the little girl who plays Dollar. But you get to see enough of both
- 17:25of them, I think, um throughout the film, Like it's kind of
- 17:29it's not so much where you sit and you just see a half of the
- 17:32film where it's just mostly the adults, and then it's just a little bit
- 17:34of kids. Like, nah, it was pretty evenly space, Yeah,
- 17:37because in the last one they definitely did not become the Shazanne family to the
- 17:41end. They were they were always the kids around very end. Yeah,
- 17:42yeah, but Megan and then weren't introduced to the very end. It was
- 17:45like the big surprised all the actors who were in it at that point.
- 17:48Yeah, her name is Faith Herman, the little girl who plays Dollar.
- 17:52But yeah, no, you you see the adult versions of them a lot
- 17:56like and again they did a good job to me being pretty even where you
- 18:00saw enough of the kids version verse and their adult superhero counterpart. Okay,
- 18:06before we get into the things you didn't like, I want to know.
- 18:08I got a few other questions. Were there any references to a certain Blackish
- 18:17Adam No, not a one that I'm not gonna say, not a one
- 18:22because you know, some of the dialogue, I was like, all right,
- 18:25whatever, but they if you want to talk about references, they were
- 18:29like the first film, there were a lot of Marvel jokes and Marvel jobs.
- 18:33Wow, like what yeah, but like lightweight stuff like hey, I'm
- 18:37your buddy, I'm just making fun of you type things, not oh I'm
- 18:40better than you type jos. I mean like that type of joke, right,
- 18:42anything in particular the references to Captain Marvel, references the Avengers reference.
- 18:48Oh wow, references to Captain Marvel. Yeah, that's the one that got
- 18:52me. Yeah wow, Yeah, Like might I say reference? I like
- 18:57the words so you know, like they didn't like hint at it like that,
- 19:02and and and again you know, I just think legally they can just
- 19:03say the names of things, all right. Yeah, um, how does
- 19:10that go again? Because it's like they originally owned it, and then they
- 19:12lost the rights, and then Marvel started getting the rights. And that's why
- 19:15it's Shazam is now called the Zam instead of being called Captain Marvel because he
- 19:21was originally called Captain Marvel. Yeah. Yeah, that's how it goes.
- 19:23And that one, that's why that one gave me some delight when that happened.
- 19:27But but yeah, there's like there's a few Marvel jokes and references in
- 19:32there, if anything, And as I mentioned, even in the Avengers,
- 19:34so you get more of that. Was there a Black Adam reference? I
- 19:37don't recall there being one. Um. And that's another thing though, you
- 19:41know, even though this Black Adam have been on the books for so long,
- 19:45it still was not one hundred percent known to come out until it came
- 19:48like finally came out. So was it. For example, it took like
- 19:56ten years for this ship to come out. Yea, that's been working on
- 19:57this ship forever. So I'm this saying I don't think they was holding on
- 20:00the writing. I think my point is I don't know if they were even
- 20:06I know what the idea was, but I don't think they were thinking about
- 20:07Black Adam when they wrote this. I mean, but that's just so wild
- 20:11for it not to be, you know, because for any comic fan,
- 20:14it is Shazam and Black Adam. It just yeah, it made absolutely no
- 20:18sense. But they never Black Adam had no reference to them either beside beside
- 20:22the thoughts of the Wizard Johnny Hansu, like besides that and that clear connection
- 20:26for people who follow the series, there was no mention of the Shazam fam.
- 20:30And in this I do not recall and I could be wrong. Somebody
- 20:34correct me when I when I'll see the film, but I don't remember a
- 20:37reference to Black Adam again besides the Wizard himself. But like that's not overt,
- 20:45like right, Like that's a that's a hurt to breathe moment for me
- 20:48because like my first well not my first, but my favorite at least it
- 20:52really got me into the story of Black Adam and the Shazam because I really
- 20:57wasn't into any of them. I never cared about them as a kid,
- 21:00was when I was that fifty two. It's a series by DC. They
- 21:04came out every week and it was written by a bunch of great writers.
- 21:07But they featured a story on Black Adam and it's when he gets his family.
- 21:12He meets his wife, Isis and her younger brother and they all become
- 21:17a family and it's like they ever recommencilities. They recommend yeah with the Captain
- 21:22Marvel family and all his crew and like so they're all friends for a while.
- 21:27Into some horrible shit happens to Black Adams family and then he goes buck
- 21:30wild again after that. But it was that moment that I really loved,
- 21:34you know, the c these two different families coming together and it was like
- 21:37really sweet and happy and then it gets fucking horrible. But yeah, it
- 21:41was that. That's one of my favorite stories, and that's when I really
- 21:45got into the whole mythos behind all these characters. So yeah, yeah,
- 21:49So any references to a talking tiger and maybe I just because I don't even
- 21:57know what that's a reference to, so maybe, and I didn't realize it,
- 22:02but I don't, damn it. It's nothing at all. No,
- 22:04no, no, I mean, I mean, honestly, this was very
- 22:07much like Greek mythology, one on one type of of focus, just in
- 22:12terms of the nothing what they called, but the characters and the and the
- 22:18baddies and things like that. Like that is now two film, folks,
- 22:22where we have been denied. I wanted to say, my man's name is
- 22:25Tawny. Tawny the Talking Tiger is this like tiger man type character who is
- 22:30a part of the Captain Marvel. She was saying family in the comics,
- 22:34he's always hungry and he's eating and stuff and he's like comic relief type thing.
- 22:38But his name is Tony. I think it's Tawny. Like, oh,
- 22:41I've been and I know that name is not Tony the Tiger life for
- 22:45us to flake. No, it's like, I think that's his name Tawny.
- 22:48But I know he's a talking tiger and he wears the suit, so
- 22:52he's awesome talking tiger. Uh DC okay, but anyway for me, but
- 22:59yeah, it'll come right up. Yeah, but um damn, So that's
- 23:03Talky twenty talking. He t a w K T A w n y is
- 23:11wearing a fucking zoo suit. The zoo suit yep. Usually a green page
- 23:17boy hat yep, dead ass no excuse me, a green like um,
- 23:22smooth criminal hat, A smooth criminal uh, the derby, I guess whatever
- 23:27the name of that shit is. But and he got a cane this niggas,
- 23:30Oh my god, it is a talking tiger. Okay, but that's
- 23:36so random. I'm sorry. It's just off air. Me and Tiwn we're
- 23:41talking about how much random DC shit I know, and it is. Even
- 23:45though I did not read all the DC comics, I do know a lot
- 23:48of the random stuff. And DC to me has like the random like they
- 23:55go utterly ridiculous with it, you know, it always have and so that's
- 23:59why I love, like, I love the talking tiger being part of the
- 24:02family. That's just like the most you know, random shit. It's so
- 24:04amazing, So I love it. M yeah, this is insane. Yeah,
- 24:14but yeah. References it was typically, like I said, again,
- 24:18Greek mythology and Marvel and the same humor. Although like some person as I
- 24:26was as I was standing, like I was waiting around, and some guy
- 24:30just walked up and he was like, hey, oh, did you like
- 24:32this film? And I was like, oh, I was pretty good,
- 24:33and he said I thought the first one was funnier, and then kind of
- 24:34walked away, and I was like, okay, um, But now that
- 24:40I'm thinking about it, I'm like, Okay, I can see why you
- 24:41thought the first one's funny. It just made because it was more fresh in
- 24:44the context of everything that was happening in DCU, and now that style is
- 24:48not new anymore, so maybe it felt that way, but to me,
- 24:52like it was pretty much on the level. Okay, So what didn't you
- 24:56like about this drunk you know, the stuff that was on the nose right
- 25:02like and and that's the that's the whether trying to do out a comedic take
- 25:07or not. Like that's one of the pitfalls that I don't like in any
- 25:11film, right, so and and sometimes I also shows this age but then
- 25:14again, I don't know how long this has been sitting waiting to get released,
- 25:18but I don't think that long. Right, But like, like for
- 25:21example, Black Adam, you could tell this age right because it was stuff
- 25:25that was on the nose. Look, um, it's not so much,
- 25:30but it's some of it in there. And again they mean they mean it
- 25:33as a joke, but it's just like all right, y'all, like,
- 25:36um, like playing the song hero while while they're doing heroic things, right
- 25:40and and it's part of the Joe No, not that hero, the old
- 25:45so I need a hero that one and and again that's actually part of a
- 25:49joke that one of the characters says. But it's still like, yeah,
- 25:53if you did it, it's almost as if it's like you're trying to be
- 25:57too smart for your own kid, like they get it, like it's a
- 26:00lot of starcasm. And that's that's the character. That's the DNA of this
- 26:07of the Shazamn series. I get it um, particularly on the on the
- 26:10live action. I get it. It's just like there can be there's such
- 26:12a thing as too much snarkiness. So there's a little bit of the too
- 26:18much snarkiness here and there, but nothing to turn me off from the film,
- 26:22so there wasn't. And then also the the the the flatness of the
- 26:30villains they with the exception of one that was very like airy and flighty and
- 26:34kind of like uh tink rebellish, just in her this is in her attitude,
- 26:41um, Lucy Lue. She was pretty flat in this unfortunately. Um.
- 26:45And I don't think it. I don't think it's this movie suffered or
- 26:48anything because it and that's just her character, her characters Calypso she's the goddess
- 26:53of chaos and all she is about chaos. She won't give a fuck about
- 26:57about logic and shit making sense. She's just like, no, let's just
- 27:00let the world burn. And I saw right, that doesn't make really a
- 27:03compelling villain, you know, besides the fact that she's so damn powerful.
- 27:07Yeah, but she didn't bring it with that let the world burn and chaos
- 27:10and everything like that could be you know, at least, you know,
- 27:14intense it's it's not intense as much as this is the bad guy. It's
- 27:18a very direct this is the bad guy. This is the person you need
- 27:21to be rooting against. I do too. Is she doing like her kill
- 27:26Bill times ten or something like? Is it like any she? No?
- 27:30Like well even rn she I felt like that was more compelling. Yes,
- 27:34that's more. That's much more compelling. This was just I'm textbook comic book
- 27:38villain. Then we live up to the textbook. And again it didn't destroy
- 27:42anything. It was just like I was like, okay, that that didn't
- 27:45do anything for me. Um Helen Mirren not Helen Mirren was good too,
- 27:53Like listen, it's Shazam. And I don't think this thing is to carry
- 28:00like when it comes from the villains. I don't know so much that it's
- 28:04really built to carry these stories of villainy like that to make you care about
- 28:10the villains. It does what it's supposed to do, which is make you
- 28:12care about Billy, make you deeply care about the family in their bond,
- 28:18and make you very making a big consequences to what happens within these bonds and
- 28:25with and throughout this family that they do in spades and they do that very
- 28:30well. Everybody else is kind of just like, Okay, you're fucking up
- 28:33the family, Like, get the funk out of here. So that's how
- 28:37I feel, Okay, anything else you wasn't feeling, Um no, no,
- 28:41no, it's it's again. If you're looking for you, meaning the
- 28:48average person, you're sitting there looking for, you know, the most top
- 28:49tier mind bending of fucking dark night approach to a comic book movie. You're
- 28:57not gonna get that shit, that's not what and anyone going into it with
- 29:03that, you're crazy, You're out of your mind, Like, that's not
- 29:04what Shazam is about. Shazam is meant to be fun. Jazam is meant
- 29:08to be entertaining. It is also meant to be heartfelt and and give you
- 29:14the sense that family is important in family is everything, and they succeeded at
- 29:18this. So I actually expect this film to do very well at the box
- 29:22office and for some unless, like the the marketing doesn't like I don't know
- 29:27why. Well, i've seen marketing come up. Now we're in New York,
- 29:30so I've seen marketing. But I'm just hoping that it's It's been light,
- 29:34but it's felt like it's been light, but I still feel like it
- 29:37should be number one this weekend because there ain't nothing else coming out, and
- 29:41um beyond that, who knows, you know, Okay, yeah, it
- 29:45just felt light. So I'm a little nervous, but like and nervous in
- 29:48the sense of I'm just like, well, how is it gonna make money?
- 29:51People don't remember it's coming, but it's it's actually it's fun. And
- 29:56I if you want to come and go out on the weekend and see see
- 29:59an entertain can in comic book film, this is it. This is it
- 30:02for you. And that's been said, ain't shit else on right now,
- 30:04So I mean, this is this is the one for You're trying to hit
- 30:07the hit the theater with some plopcorn for real, And you also got to
- 30:11remember that, like, we're not getting a lot of the marketing for this.
- 30:15You know, this is probably hitting like ABC, NBC, CBS all
- 30:19day and night, you know, when people are watching you know, Modern
- 30:23Family or whatever shit. I don't know, you know, like I'm sure
- 30:26that's when this is getting bombarded with shazam ads. You know, I watch
- 30:32Abbott. I don't really get saxam ads on the Abbott, but Yeah.
- 30:36When I watch Abbott, it's like on Hulu. Yeah, you know what
- 30:38I mean. So I'm not I might even I'm not seeing these ads.
- 30:41But if there are ads on the mainstream for the typical movie, great,
- 30:45great. That means y'all know what's coming. And I do, honestly,
- 30:48I do hope it's number one. It's it's a good it's it's number one.
- 30:52It deserves to be number one this weekend. And um uh it looks
- 30:57good, I will say, just just to wrap it all up, it
- 31:00looks good. The effects are great. Like I said, it can be
- 31:03brutal when it comes to the fighting and the things that happened to people,
- 31:07and and and the the overall Philly itself. It's some brutal shit happening.
- 31:11But it's still watching. It's still very much watchable. It's still very much
- 31:17Um that's hard, okay. So, and it's very sweet, especially in
- 31:25certain times with the family. It's just a very sweet film too. Okay.
- 31:29That does um. Since there's no connection to Black Adams, since we
- 31:34get no talking tiger, uh, we know we know that Wonder Woman is
- 31:41up in that joint, you know, at least in some way shape before
- 31:45Yeah, Yeah, it's worth it. Actually, it is worth it.
- 31:49It is I will say that for for you know, sometimes it's very weak
- 31:53when you get these cameos and things like that. But this time it was
- 31:56actually worth it. Okay, it was worth anything else. There is a
- 32:01mid credit scene and an end credit scene. I don't are they worth the
- 32:07mid credit scene. Definitely, the end credit scene maybe if you have to
- 32:12leave in whatever, you could go see in online. But um, I
- 32:15definitely want to see that mid credit scene. Okay. Throughout the film?
- 32:19Are there any other connections to the DCU. Um, there are talks.
- 32:25I mean, besides, you know, we Wonder Woman brings up talks of
- 32:28Justice League and then you know, so there's other groups associated. I'm guessing
- 32:35Shazam gets disc for being a member of the Justice League, like not fair.
- 32:39Well, I'll just I'll leave it up to you for y'all to see
- 32:42what happens. The word justice is in there. I'll just say that,
- 32:45yeah, well, I mean yeah, but the word justice is in there.
- 32:49But because I don't want to ruin for nobody, but true, I
- 32:52don't ruin for nobody. But I'll tell you, I'll tell you. I'll
- 32:53tell you off air but uh yeah, I like that. Again, like
- 33:00I said, with the exception of some of the stuff that was just on
- 33:01the nose, it was like, okay, you know, and you don't
- 33:05have to be that snarky, we get it. Um. Besides that,
- 33:07I liked everything um and and there are kiddish stuff happening. But again,
- 33:13look at what the audience of this, the focused audience for this. You
- 33:15know this, this is really a family film. Okay, what about let
- 33:21me see what are your predictions? Let's say, Okay, I guess men,
- 33:25this is a two parter. If this movie does you know, make
- 33:29a billion dollars, what are your predictions a billion? I don't know if
- 33:34it's gonna make a billion? Okay, all right? In general, what
- 33:36are your there's this gives some predictions for the future of the DC E or
- 33:42you Yeah. For me, I absolutely gives some predictions because it plays right
- 33:47along into what James Gunn and friends are trying to do. Um, which
- 33:52what helps me because I was just like, you know, all of these
- 33:54because these are technically relics of the DC right, these are technically the last
- 34:00films to come out before you get the fresh new stuff. So they played
- 34:05it well especially with the inclusion a Wonder Woman, because again I don't know
- 34:07how much longer we're gonna have this version of Wonder Woman, but to include
- 34:10include Shazam and this and Shazam fam. And then as I say, there's
- 34:15mentions of other justice people like to to just drop those seeds is really good,
- 34:21right, Um. And then because they're young and their kids, you
- 34:24can mold them up as they get in the real life and me you can
- 34:28mold up and continue raising them through the DCU, much like how Marvel is
- 34:31doing now, how they're raising up the kids right and letting the original or
- 34:36the older actors start passing pass the torch to them. You're you're starting to
- 34:38see that process within Shazam. So I think that that the clear breadcrumbs are
- 34:45there. I And because because they're young, like I first see that they're
- 34:50going to continue with the Shazam series with this group of people or something got
- 34:53a traffic hoppins or someone's just like, I don't want to do this shit
- 34:57no more. I don't know. But um, I didn't hear the I'm
- 35:00saying anything about old We're recasting Suxam and all forty kids, Like I don't
- 35:05I don't notice, not forty of them, just saying this is a lot
- 35:07of mother fucking kids. So you know, yeah, you do not think
- 35:15the future of the Cuzam family is don't be that long. No, I
- 35:19do think that I do potentially like that's that's what I was saying. I
- 35:24said, I don't see them recasting, right like you, except maybe the
- 35:30older one. I don't see them recasting. I don't see them stopping this
- 35:32train, especially if this makes it at least make the budget back. It
- 35:36don't make the budget back, the budget back and double it, then they're
- 35:38good. They're gonna keep this going, this train going, because right now,
- 35:44right now, this is the only established DCU property that has a through
- 35:49line to family. Right A lot of the dc stuff, DCU stuff has
- 35:53been dark, m and inaccessible to the younger crowd. This one, this
- 36:00one is it's pre built. It's prebuilt with with with the kids, minds,
- 36:04prebuilt with family and mind is prebuilt with that money, that type of
- 36:07money, that money. Okay, you're right, And even though they have
- 36:14not announced this going forward, I do believe that they will, you know,
- 36:16make amends. And James Jenner's gonna you know, dodging Bob, and
- 36:21we even do all that. So if this does make some good money,
- 36:23he gonna be like, yeah, you know, let's keep this money train
- 36:27rolling on in and figure out a way to make a reference to it,
- 36:30you know, at some point later on, and you know, we'll keep
- 36:31it going. It's light enough to keep the youth the youth youth engaged,
- 36:37and it's heavy enough to keep DC fans interested, and it has it's it's
- 36:43a very nice sweet spot. I feel Shazam is in, which is why
- 36:45I feel as long as it makes the guop's supposed to make, they're gonna
- 36:50keep the train, as you say, going, keep throwing clothes in there.
- 36:52And he's Snyder esque shots in it, and he's slow motion. Yeah,
- 36:57this is plenty of this plan. But it's not egregious. It's not
- 37:00egregious. But there's when it's used and it makes sense for it to be
- 37:04used. But and it's less slow motion as much as it's just intense close
- 37:07ups as you know, intense things are happening. So the face, oh
- 37:15no, there are there is that. There is always the slow mo punch
- 37:19into the face. Yeah, the thing, So so that's there, but
- 37:23it's not it's not over overdone. It's not overdone. But no, I
- 37:27do see a long history for exam. As long as they keep this formula
- 37:30going, they'll be fine. And as I said, I just and if
- 37:34they do stop it, I was just like, why that was free money?
- 37:37So whatever I mean. At the same time, the argument can be
- 37:42made that, you know, you don't need a trilogy and stuff, you
- 37:45know, but about the characters themselves, like you want to keep them going,
- 37:50like, oh, yeah, they could bring them into other things.
- 37:52Now, now we'll say this, even though they've left the breadcrumbs for like
- 37:57future films and and and allowing that whole openness the family themselves, I don't
- 38:02know if they are going to come along for the ride. Billy Matson can
- 38:07definitely be inserted in and out and come along for the ride, and by
- 38:10saying in and out the other stories, but I don't know necessarily if they're
- 38:14going to continue with their full family because like I said this, I say
- 38:17forty but there's a lot of motherfuckers. Yeah that's what I'm saying. Yeah,
- 38:21that's what I was saying. Okay, so we are on the same
- 38:22page about that, because that's what I'm saying I felt like, ain't a
- 38:25way they're gonna keep all these kids acts plus like Megan Good and all them
- 38:30around too, like I mean, I mean, I know they ain't the
- 38:32biggest I could see the like the whole family from like, if they continue,
- 38:37they're gonna continue with Billy, right, continue with jam as a character,
- 38:39insert him and other stories or whatever. If they do that and they
- 38:43start leaving like behind the family stories, then the family will pop up here
- 38:46and there as cameos as versus Yeah. Yeah unless unless Billy, unless the
- 38:57response to the family is large than Billy. Yeah, and the audience response.
- 39:04If the audience response is very strong and keen on the family enough,
- 39:07then they'd be like, Okay, we'll do at least a trilogy with the
- 39:10fam. If not, they're just gonna keep it pushing, I know.
- 39:15I mean, I mean a billy as an abilly, not billy bats Billy
- 39:19isn't a billy. Yeah, if it makes a billy, the family will
- 39:21be bad for you know. I just don't personally see this as the billy.
- 39:23And maybe again maybe because I'm not seeing enough marketing, but I see
- 39:29this doing well and being successful, I'd be I would be immediately shocked,
- 39:32and not because it's not can't make it to abillity, just I just didn't
- 39:37realize that there was that much marketing for that to happen, or that much
- 39:39love for so Exam too. Yeah, I mean there was there's some people
- 39:44online that we're like, oh, I forgot this was coming out. I
- 39:45was like, oh shit, okay, I couldn't. I mean, I'm
- 39:51really kind of shocked to hear that it's good because it is coming out this
- 39:53weekend and we're just starting to see it. So I just figured that,
- 39:59you know, they were so late in the game. Yeah, I was
- 40:00like, they're holding this because you know, so I'm kind of shot,
- 40:05you know, I think I think it's fun. And Leslie surprised, I'll
- 40:07say, yeah, I would say I was. I was because I wasn't
- 40:10necessarily like super hype about it. I just thought it would be decent.
- 40:15But it was a little bit more than decent, and you know, I
- 40:17it was entertaining, okay, And again it was on the level the first
- 40:22exams. It's listen, this is this is this is a popcorn film.
- 40:24It's not rocket science. It's not meant to be. The first game is
- 40:29one of the months I enjoyed in the theater, and then when it's like
- 40:31been on Hulu or whatever, like when it's on T and T. I've
- 40:35called like parts of it, but I've never seen it all the way through
- 40:38again from the first time. That's probably gonna do the same with it,
- 40:42Yeah, I dot, I will, yeah, I'll probably catch this is
- 40:44the one. What you see in the theater, it's like, Okay,
- 40:45that was fun. That was cool. And then later down the line,
- 40:47come on TV. It's like playing while you're doing your launchry or something.
- 40:51Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Like I was watching the End Game the other
- 40:53day. I called, like, you know, quick, thirty minutes of
- 40:55it. It was amazing, you know, as always, no that I
- 40:59have to stop in my track. Oh yeah yeah, I mean that's why,
- 41:00you know, yea, the game was coming on after two. It
- 41:04was perfect, and I'm watching the game. Yeah yeah yeah. So listen,
- 41:07as I said earlier, you want to try to trying to go to
- 41:09the movies this weekend, go see this, have fun. You might giggle
- 41:14here and there laughs, you know, um jamahsu he's so, I mean,
- 41:20he's always good. Yeah, So it's good. So ye yeah,
