- 0:00In 1991, Stephen Beth Lee moved with their two young sons into a
- 0:05two-story log home on A5 acre property in the Black Forest
- 0:10region of Colorado. The area was secluded and
- 0:14scenic, just what the least wanted for quiet country living.
- 0:18However, within weeks of settling in, strange occurrences
- 0:22began. The family would come home to
- 0:25flashing lights inside the house and hear inexplicable noises
- 0:29such as heavy footsteps on the roof, chains rattling in the
- 0:32night, And even more disturbing phenomena was a pungent chemical
- 0:37odor that would permeate the house at odd times, a smell so
- 0:41acrid that it burned the family's eyes and throats.
- 0:44These early events would set the stage for what would become one
- 0:47of Colorado's most infamous hauntings.
- 0:50In this video, I will cover the case in its entirety and then
- 0:54provide new information and updates at the end.

- 1:00Let us begin mere. Days after the Lee family had
- 1:06settled into their new abode nestled amongst the Pines, they
- 1:11are confronted with paranormal happenings.
- 1:16Initially, the disturbances seem harmless.
- 1:19As the couple. 'S two young sons began to voice
- 1:23concerns about peculiar lights flickering in their rooms and
- 1:28eerie shadows dancing across the walls.
- 1:31But the situation takes an ominous turn when Steve and Beth
- 1:36themselves bear witness to disturbing and terrifying
- 1:41events. This is the untold story of the
- 1:45haunted House of the Black Forest in Colorado.
- 2:04There's an undeniable, almost supernatural call to the eerie
- 2:09and the unexplained that seems to emanate from the depths of
- 2:14dense Woodlands. The Black Forest, a vast expanse
- 2:20of towering trees and shadowy undergrowth, has been a breeding
- 2:25ground for creepy tales of the otherworldly.
- 2:29Amidst this foreboding landscape lies a dilapidated house, its
- 2:35weathered walls and creaking floorboards harboring secrets
- 2:40that have captured the imagination of paranormal
- 2:44enthusiasts across the nation. This isolated dwelling nestled
- 2:51deep within the Colorado wilderness has earned A
- 2:54reputation as one of the most haunted sites in the United
- 2:58States. It's very existence A testament
- 3:03to the enduring power of mystery and the unknown.
- 3:09The region referred to as the Black Forest is an
- 3:13unincorporated area situated in El Paso County, Colorado,
- 3:18nestled near the city of Colorado Springs.
- 3:23This area was traditionally known as the Pineries, a vast
- 3:27expanse spanning over 1000 miles, aptly named for the dense
- 3:33concentration of majestic ponderosa pine trees that
- 3:38blanketed the landscape. The Black Forest's remote and
- 3:43secluded nature, coupled with its towering evergreens and
- 3:47rugged wilderness as long captivated those seeking
- 3:51solitude and a connection with the untamed beauty of nature.
- 3:57The secluded log cabin nestled deep within the Black Forest
- 4:01region of Colorado, seemed like a tranquil Oasis for the Lee
- 4:05family when they first laid eyes on it in 1991.
- 4:11Stephen and Beth, along with their two sons, had relocated
- 4:15from Louisiana, seeking A serene escape amidst the towering Pines
- 4:21and pristine wilderness. The sparsely populated area,
- 4:26known for its slow paced lifestyle, crisp air, and
- 4:30breathtaking vistas, promised a dream home surrounded by
- 4:34untouched nature. Little did they know that this
- 4:38idyllic retreat would soon become a source of explicable
- 4:43occurrences and unsettling experiences that would forever
- 4:48alter their perception of the supernatural.
- 4:53About the Lees. Steven Lee, a father, husband
- 4:58and truck driver had done well for his family and wanting a
- 5:03change of scenery they found what they believed to be their
- 5:07dream home, A6000 square foot three story cabin located within
- 5:15the Black Forest, situated on five acres of land.
- 5:21Stephen and his wife Beth, with every step as they surveyed the
- 5:25property could envision their two young sons playing and
- 5:31growing up there, their own little piece of the American
- 5:35dream. So it took a little bit of time,
- 5:40but their offer on the home was ultimately accepted and within
- 5:44the coming months, they would soon call this secluded place
- 5:48home. However, they would fail to
- 5:52realize that it wasn't just inhabited by the family of four.
- 5:58The first week at their new residence seemed like something
- 6:01out of a fairy tale. Mom, dad and the kids were all
- 6:07comfortable and very happy after making the long trek from
- 6:12Louisiana to Colorado. The family themselves seemed
- 6:17happy and content with their decision.
- 6:21However, this would change the Lee's two young sons shared a
- 6:27room as. Brothers often.
- 6:30Do at a young age and roughly after their first week, they
- 6:35began to tell their parents that something strange was happening
- 6:38in their bedroom. Bright, colorful lights flashed
- 6:43about and terrifying shadowy spectres float across their
- 6:49walls. These strange happenings
- 6:52frightened the boys and often kept them awake.
- 6:56So of course, they told their parents.
- 6:59However, often in these situations they were dismissed.
- 7:05Beth and Steve simply believed that the boys had overactive
- 7:09imaginations and figured it would just take time for them to
- 7:13adjust their new environment. But this too would change mere
- 7:18weeks later. Upon coming home from an evening
- 7:23of fun as a family, they would arrive to see their home
- 7:27lighting inside with strange lightning like flashes of light.
- 7:33They could see the spectacle from their driveway.
- 7:37In the words of Beth. One day we came home and it was
- 7:42like the 4th of July. In our living room and bedroom.
- 7:47We had all sorts of colorful flashes of light seemingly
- 7:51everywhere. We rushed inside to figure out
- 7:55just what these things were and simultaneously it sounded like
- 8:00people were stomping across our roof and all of a sudden it
- 8:06stopped. Never having seen anything like
- 8:09this before, the Lees were simply perplexed and not sure of
- 8:15what to make of this activity. They would lay their heads down
- 8:19to sleep this night, but what they failed to realize is that
- 8:23this was just a prelude of what was to come.
- 8:28In the coming months, the activity grew in intensity.
- 8:32What started as phantom lights and flickering shadows had
- 8:37escalated into something taking place almost every single day.
- 8:43From disembodied banging sounds to whispers, the sound of chains
- 8:49dragging on the floor or even inside the walls, to pushing,
- 8:55assaulting and disturbing the family.
- 9:00Sadly, the Lee's young sons were more often than not the targets
- 9:05of this paranormal force that plagued them night after night.
- 9:10And almost every night they were harassed by shadow people, the
- 9:15reappearance of the mysterious lights, and the awful banging
- 9:20sounds of something unseen. The family did their best to
- 9:25make the situation work. They, after all, were newly tied
- 9:29up financially in the purchase of what they believed was going
- 9:33to be their forever home. But it was something big or
- 9:37small nearly every day now that was taking place during the day,
- 9:43Appliances began to turn on and off on their own accord.
- 9:47This was attributed to an electrical issue at first, but
- 9:51after having the home examined by multiple electricians, they
- 9:56found no faulty wiring. Alongside electrical appliances,
- 10:01faucets began to turn on by themselves, often making a wet
- 10:06mess in whatever room they were activated in During the night.
- 10:11The re emergence of the lights, movement of the shadow people
- 10:17and the sounds truly haunted them and these disturbing
- 10:22happenings were soon coupled by something new and equally
- 10:27terrible. A noxious chemical odor began to
- 10:32appear in the home with no rational origin.
- 10:36The smell of these mystery chemicals burned the nose, eyes
- 10:41and throats of everyone whenever it appeared.
- 10:46In the coming days, yet more professionals would be called
- 10:49out, and yet nothing, no origin of the chemicals or detection of
- 10:56them either, could be found. It seemed that whatever force
- 11:01that dwelled within the walls of the cabin home in the woods had
- 11:05a particular hatred for the Lee family, and this force soon
- 11:10began to physically hit all of them, seemingly whenever it
- 11:14could, often leaving bruises. Not a believer in the
- 11:19paranormal, Steve Lee having had professionals come out and not
- 11:25provide any rational answers to their strange ailments.
- 11:29This, coupled with the now daily torment that he and his family
- 11:34were enduring, had finally reached his wit's end.
- 11:39He wanted to prove that either there was someone or something
- 11:43messing with them, and over the coming year he invested in a
- 11:47total of $70,000 worth of camera equipment and security equipment
- 11:55to monitor every square inch of their home and property.
- 11:59Now you might think that that's an incredible amount of money to
- 12:03spend on cameras and alarm systems, and it is, but this was
- 12:08the 90's. The equipment wasn't as readily
- 12:11available or sophisticated as it is today, and it just goes to
- 12:16show that they were truly freaked out by whatever was
- 12:18taking place, that they wanted some kind of tangible proof that
- 12:24they could show the world so people didn't think that they
- 12:27were crazy. The cameras, which were mostly
- 12:31motion activated and would record when motion was detected,
- 12:36soon began to activate with no rational explanation and no
- 12:41physical means to be detected. After capturing several strange
- 12:47things on video and photograph, Steve decided to contact the
- 12:52local authorities for help. Records show that the El Paso
- 12:56police were contacted so often by the Lees in the months to
- 13:00come that they launched a formal investigation into just what was
- 13:05taking place at the cabin home in the Black Forest.
- 13:11During this time and the two years to follow, Alongside the
- 13:15cameras, their security equipment, which could detect
- 13:19motion enforced entry was triggered 62 times with no
- 13:25explanation as to what could be causing it.
- 13:30It wasn't faulty equipment or poor installation.
- 13:33It was oddly something else, something unexplainable.
- 13:39With not even the police able to rationalize what was happening
- 13:42to the Lees, Beth and Steve decided to take things one step
- 13:46further. They hired a private
- 13:49investigator. This was in part due to the
- 13:52police also growing tiresome, being contacted for assistance
- 13:57and then there being nothing that they could do about it.
- 14:01Between the cameras and security equipment and now hiring a
- 14:05private investigator, the Lees had all but spent the rest of
- 14:09their life savings. Most people, if it ever came to
- 14:14this, would simply try and cut their losses and sell the home,
- 14:19and we don't know if the lease could have sold the home and
- 14:22moved elsewhere, but they truly still believed that this massive
- 14:27cabin home was their dream home and they didn't want to give it
- 14:31up without a fight. Unfortunately though, the
- 14:35private investigator was unable to help them.
- 14:39This left the Lee's to simply tough out anything and
- 14:42everything that they had and were continuing to experience.
- 14:47After moving in in 1991, the year now was 1995 and the
- 14:54activity had persisted despite the efforts of the Lee family to
- 14:59uncover just what was causing it.
- 15:02Steve, who still figured there had to be a rational explanation
- 15:06for what was taking place, had a little bit more of an open mind.
- 15:11After a lengthy discussion with Beth, seemingly having done
- 15:15everything else, the Lee's concluded that they would try
- 15:19and contact paranormal investigators to see if they
- 15:22could do anything about the otherworldly happenings taking
- 15:26place in their home. After some research in calling
- 15:30numerous numbers the Lee's ended up getting in contact with the
- 15:34person would end up being involved with the television
- 15:38show Sightings. Sightings was an American
- 15:42paranormal and new show that aired throughout the 1990s
- 15:46covering various unexplained and French phenomena.
- 15:51As a result of this pretty lucky interaction, the show became
- 15:55very interested in producing an episode segment about hauntings
- 16:00surrounding the investigation of the Lee Hung.
- 16:03The show would contact a paranormal investigator in a
- 16:06self-proclaimed psychic in Minneapolis, MN named Echo
- 16:11Bodine from her book The Little Book of True Ghost Stories.
- 16:17Echo would explain her experience as the following.
- 16:21I got a call from the TV show Sightings and they wanted to
- 16:25know if I would fly to Colorado Springs to help a family deal
- 16:29with some ghosts. The producers told me that the
- 16:33problem was the ghost mostly seemed to come out at night.
- 16:37So I was asked to work from midnight until the early
- 16:41Daybreak hours. It was a very hot day in
- 16:44mid-july When I arrived in Denver around 10:00 PM.
- 16:49It was pretty eerie. There was intense lightning all
- 16:53throughout the sky and rain pouring down.
- 16:57I remember thinking how perfect the spooky weather was for
- 17:01investigating hauntings. Steve, the owner of the log
- 17:05home, was at the airport to pick me up.
- 17:09He was very open about not believing in ghosts, and as we
- 17:13drove through several towns in Colorado, I listened to him tell
- 17:17me story after story about some of the things that had gone on
- 17:21in their house. They heard voices, footsteps,
- 17:27things would move from room to room.
- 17:30It took close to an hour to get up to their house in the
- 17:32mountains and alongside the rain, a fog hung about 10 feet
- 17:38off the ground. When we arrived and I entered
- 17:42their three story log cabin home from here, I was greeted by a
- 17:47producer who asked me if I could take a seat while the scientists
- 17:51they had hired told us about his thermal camera.
- 17:56Having been tired from the trip. I laid my head back while the
- 18:00explanations were continuing and suddenly I heard a voice come
- 18:05from behind me. It said hey, come here.
- 18:12Upon turning around, I saw a large ghostly man about 6 feet
- 18:18tall. The specter was wearing blue
- 18:20jeans and a blue checkered flannel shirt.
- 18:24I then heard in unison multiple voices tell me to look over here
- 18:30and now. There was 5 male spirits, all
- 18:33different but dressed the same as the first.
- 18:38The original ghost said that his name was Tom and that this was
- 18:42his house and that no one was going to make him leave.
- 18:48He ran the show around here and had for a long time.
- 18:53I told the producer what was happening in case he wanted to
- 18:56capture anything for the segment and he did.
- 19:00The conversation then ensued with Tom explaining why he and
- 19:05the boys wanted to stay in the house, that it was his land, his
- 19:10home, and that he would not leave.
- 19:14One of the cameramen then asked if it was one of them who'd been
- 19:17responsible for knocking over his very expensive camera off
- 19:21the countertop. All 5 in unison answered yes and
- 19:27then disappeared out of sight. The scientist with the thermal
- 19:32camera did in fact capture a drop in temperature just a right
- 19:37where Tom had stood around 2:00 AM in the morning.
- 19:42As me and Beth discussed the activity that she had
- 19:44experienced, the dogs the family owned would not stop barking
- 19:50outside. The producers, in an effort to
- 19:54keep their sounds from being picked up on the camera, tried
- 19:57to quiet them down, but simply weren't having any luck.
- 20:02Then, upon Beth showing me a photo of what they had captured
- 20:06on their own cameras, we suddenly were in the midst. 3
- 20:11male spirits, one with a particularly angry scowl upon
- 20:16his face. One of them walked through both
- 20:19of us, causing us to jump out of our chairs.
- 20:24While the. Other angry looking spirit tried
- 20:27to take my breath away. I believe he did this to stoke
- 20:32fear from me in order to grow more powerful, and this worked
- 20:37because I felt as if I was being suffocated.
- 20:41By 3:30 AM, we all decided to not focus on ghosts for a bit
- 20:46and to try and lighten the mood. We turned the cameras off and
- 20:51began eating some food in which Beth had prepared for us.
- 20:55But almost as soon as we began to relax, one of the camera
- 21:00women who'd been sitting on the stairs began to hyperventilate.
- 21:05She then jumped up and screamed. Get it out of me.
- 21:10As she fell down the stairs and onto the floor, writhing in
- 21:15pain, the producers asked for me to do something.
- 21:20So with the assistance of others, I helped her up and into
- 21:24a chair in the kitchen. And I began to burn sage.
- 21:29And circling her in the smoke, I asked her to say back to me that
- 21:35she was clear until she calmed down.
- 21:40It took about 20 minutes, but she eventually relaxed.
- 21:45She then was given a ride back to the hotel and I never saw or
- 21:49heard from her again. By now it was 4:30 AM and we
- 21:55were waiting for the camera crew of the show to finish setting up
- 21:59their equipment in the bedrooms where the majority of activity
- 22:03was seeming to take place. One of Steve's friends, who had
- 22:07been present most of the night, came up and handed me a brochure
- 22:12about the history of the local area.
- 22:15To my surprise, he told me that a man named Tom had been the
- 22:19sheriff here back in the 1800s. I felt shivers up my spine as I
- 22:26realized that this was the same Tom that now haunted the Lee's
- 22:31home. Roughly 5:00 AM, as we set off
- 22:35to investigate the last bedroom, I walked into the room and saw
- 22:40there in the rocking chair in the corner who would turn out to
- 22:44be Beth's deceased grandmother. And on the opposite side of the
- 22:49room was Tom and the several male spirits under his control.
- 22:55We ended up burning sage and asking them all to move on to
- 22:59the other side. They all did leave the building,
- 23:03but I'm not convinced that they moved on.
- 23:07At about 6:00 AM, we finally finished saging the entire
- 23:11house. Exhausted, we packed up our
- 23:14equipment and went back to our respective hotels.
- 23:19I've spoken to Steve and Beth since and they informed me that
- 23:23activity at the cabin persisted shortly after our departure and
- 23:28that although not fully convinced, Steve is convinced
- 23:32that there are things in this world that we will never truly
- 23:35understand. Sightings would do a follow up
- 23:39episode segment years later with the Lees or they brought in
- 23:43several spiritualists and an expert in hyperdimensional
- 23:47studies and all would come to the conclusion that the home was
- 23:52indeed haunted. The expert would draw the
- 23:55conclusion that the home sat atop an interdimensional vortex
- 24:01and coinciding with his conclusion.
- 24:03Interestingly, A Hopi elder from the local area would also
- 24:08explain that the Black Forest sits on top what the Hopi call a
- 24:13rainbow vortex, a raging storm, a portal of sorts that contains
- 24:20great spiritual energy and the coming and going of many souls.
- 24:27Sometimes they burn out over time and sometimes they don't.
- 24:32They are considered gateways between the world of the living
- 24:36and the spirit realm. Some strange and noteworthy
- 24:40things that took place during the second filming of the show
- 24:43Sightings at the Lee's residence was that a paranormal
- 24:47investigator had asked anyone if the name Howard bore any
- 24:51significance to them. The Lee's were surprised because
- 24:55one of their best friends in Colorado Springs was a man named
- 24:58Howard. The entity then told the
- 25:01investigator, who relayed the information to everyone, that he
- 25:06was Howard's son and that he in fact had not killed himself, but
- 25:12rather had been murdered. This disturbed the Lees a great
- 25:17deal because Howard's son had supposedly taken his own life by
- 25:22consuming deadly chemicals working as a chemist.
- 25:27The stories and reputation of the home got such a local buzz
- 25:30from the press that even a Colorado senator by the name of
- 25:34Charles Duke visited the home with his own camera crew and
- 25:39would snap a few photographic pieces of evidence of
- 25:43apparitions. To his and everyone else's
- 25:46surprise, Senator Duke was so convinced of the Lee's haunting
- 25:51that he even contacted the FBI to conduct a formal
- 25:54investigation, but the Bureau would rebuttal with no federal
- 25:59laws have been broken. Years later, after everything
- 26:04had happened, Steve Lee, who still wasn't fully convinced of
- 26:09the supernatural, came to his own conclusions as to what was
- 26:14taking place. And for the record, it's a wild
- 26:18theory. He began to believe that the
- 26:22government was using his family and their remote location to
- 26:27test biological agents and psychological weapons of war.
- 26:33He claims he has even photographed military personnel
- 26:36on his property with firearms and claims that they may have
- 26:41been shutting off the electricity in his home so they
- 26:44could enter undetected. These claims, although far
- 26:49fetched, would be incredibly disturbing if true, and it would
- 26:53account for the noxious odors the family said they were
- 26:56experiencing as well as the lights and some sounds.
- 27:02But oddly enough as well, the Air Force Base is located just a
- 27:07few minutes away from where the leaves live.
- 27:12The Lees, as far as we know after placing the home for sale
- 27:15in 2010, no longer live there. The current residents are
- 27:21unknown, but it seems as if the property has changed hands
- 27:25multiple times. Whether it was ghosts, the
- 27:29result of what the Hopi call a rainbow vortex, or more
- 27:34sinisterly, the result of government military Black Ops,
- 27:39The Haunting of Black Forest Colorado is truly an intriguing
- 27:44tale. And if you find yourself seduced
- 27:48by what you could consider your dream home, take caution because
- 27:54this calling might just be a siren sound.
- 27:58Don't let them take you. My original video, which I put
- 28:04out in 2024, called The Untold Story of the Black Forest
- 28:08Haunting in Colorado, presented the above narrative.
- 28:11However, as with any story, there are additional layers to
- 28:14this case, including official investigations, later
- 28:18statements, and alternative theories.
- 28:20I'm going to go ahead and cover those now.
- 28:22The El Paso County Sheriff's Office was heavily involved in
- 28:25the early 1990s when the incidents were first reported.
- 28:29As mentioned, deputies responded to dozens of and when one calls
- 28:33from the Lees Sheriff. Records show an investigation
- 28:36was formerly opened in April of 1993.
- 28:38After Steve reported phenomena like laser like lights in the
- 28:42house at night, unexplained noises on the roof and strange
- 28:45chemical loaders in his truck. Officers conducted 45 follow up
- 28:49visits to the property, treating it as a possible prowler or
- 28:52harassment case. In an unusually thorough effort,
- 28:56the Sheriff's Department even gathered physical samples for
- 28:58analysis. They sent a bed sheet, some
- 29:01clothing and a rag, which had a particularly strong odor to the
- 29:05Colorado Bureau of Investigation forensic lab to test for
- 29:09volatile chemicals or substances.
- 29:11One detective got a whiff of the mysterious rag and experienced
- 29:14burning sensations in his nose and throat, confirming the Lee's
- 29:17description of the irritation. Yet the lab results came back
- 29:21negative for no noxious chemicals.
- 29:23Nothing abnormal was detected on the items.
- 29:26The Sheriff's Office also examined ACB radio from Steve's
- 29:29truck after he complained it malfunctioned during during the
- 29:32disturbances. Have found that it operated
- 29:34normally under test conditions with no hard evidence of a crime
- 29:38or culprit. The Sheriff's Office eventually
- 29:40shoved the case. We've never been able to
- 29:43determine that there was a crime, Sergeant Stan Ross
- 29:45explained, noting that despite the least frequent complaints,
- 29:49deputies couldn't find any human instigator or lawful violation
- 29:53to pursue. Essentially, law enforcement had
- 29:56reached a dead end, officially classifying the incidents as
- 29:59unexplained but with no further action possible.
- 30:02Frustrated by the lack of resolution, Steve Lee sought
- 30:05help from outside local law enforcement.
- 30:08In 1996, he contacted his state representative, Colorado State
- 30:12Senator Charles Duke, who lived in the area.
- 30:15Senator Duke was initially skeptical, but agreed to visit
- 30:18Lee at his home as a constituent service.
- 30:21Armed with his own 35mm camera, Duke toured the house in July of
- 30:251996 to witness the phenomena himself.
- 30:28He took a number of photos of the interior, aiming at nothing
- 30:31in particular, just to see what might show up.
- 30:34He saw anomalies in the photos, including a bright light beam
- 30:38streaking through one image that had not been visible to his
- 30:41eyes. At the time.
- 30:42He also captured faint, cloudy humanoid shapes very similar to
- 30:46the light forms the leaves had shown him on their own pictures.
- 30:49One of Duke's photos even revealed a clear apparition of a
- 30:52dog that was not present physically, visual evidence of
- 30:56the ghost dog that the family had reported seeing.
- 30:59Experiencing this convinced him that something very odd was
- 31:02occurring at the Lee home. Concern for his constituents and
- 31:05intrigued by his own findings, Senator Duke took an
- 31:08unprecedented step and he reached out to the FBI for
- 31:11assistance. Duke had contacts in the FBI due
- 31:15to unrelated work on a high profile standoff in Montana, and
- 31:19he cautiously broached the subject of the Lee property with
- 31:22a senior agent by the name of Greg Groves.
- 31:25The FBI did not launch a formal investigation.
- 31:28After all, there was still no evidence of a federal crime.
- 31:31But Agent Roves did assign someone to speak with the lease
- 31:34and review their claims for a brief time.
- 31:37The Bureau analyzed the information to determine if any
- 31:40federal law, for instance, illegal surveillance or
- 31:43trespassing on federal land, misuse of military equipment,
- 31:47etcetera, that would warrant FBI jurisdiction.
- 31:50In the end, the FBI concluded that there was no federal
- 31:53violation to pursue. According to Senator Duke, the
- 31:56FBI essentially told him that their hands were tied unless
- 31:59something concrete like a criminal hoax or national
- 32:02security issue emerged. However, in an intriguing twist,
- 32:07one FBI agent allegedly suggested off record that
- 32:10poltergeists might be the cause of the Lee House disturbances.
- 32:15Beyond the sightings television investigations featured in the
- 32:18video, the Black Forest haunting continued to draw interest from
- 32:21paranormal researchers through the late 1990s and into the
- 32:252000s. One notable investigator, Dennis
- 32:28William Huck, visited the Lee home in October of 1996.
- 32:32Huck, an author of Haunted Places, the National Directory,
- 32:37recorded additional unexplained phenomena during his visit,
- 32:40further corroborating the early findings.
- 32:43In March 1998, Fate magazine, a long running journal on
- 32:47paranormal topics, published an article titled The Black Forest
- 32:51Haunting, which featured infrared photographs taken in
- 32:54the Lee house that showed some of the apparitions and life
- 32:58forms in vivid detail. Copies of the Fate issue
- 33:01circulated among enthusiasts, and it cemented the case's
- 33:04reputation as a uniquely well documented haunting.
- 33:08In fact, by the beginning of 1997, the lease had accumulated
- 33:13so much evidence that it was being described in summary as
- 33:163000 plus photos and hundreds of hours of video, something that
- 33:21is almost unheard of in a typical ghost case.
- 33:24With so many things taking place at once, psychic Peter James
- 33:28went so far as to speculate that some entities might be what he
- 33:32termed alien ghosts, suggesting A crossover between ghostly
- 33:36activity and extraterrestrial or interdimensional visitation.
- 33:41While this idea is highly conjectural, it shows how
- 33:44extraordinary the manifestations were.
- 33:46Even experienced mediums and ghost hunters found themselves
- 33:49grasping for new theories. Echo, Bodine and others
- 33:53consistently describe kept the haunting as unusually intense.
- 33:57Boding later reflected that in her career, the Lee case was
- 34:00standout for the sheer quantity and consistency of evidence.
- 34:04Phenomena occurred not just once or twice, but repeatedly and on
- 34:08command, in some instances allowing documentation to take
- 34:12place. Another development post video
- 34:15is the continued historical research into the land itself.
- 34:18Some researchers looked into whether the Lee property had any
- 34:21tragic history or prior hauntings.
- 34:24Black Forest, Colorado, has a long history dating back to
- 34:27Native American tribes hundreds of years ago.
- 34:30No specific violent event or an exact plot of the Lee house was
- 34:34ever uncovered, though. But the broader area itself has
- 34:37seen its share of history, from frontier skirmishes to an
- 34:40intense wildfire in 1988 and another in 2013.
- 34:45There are other features, like geological developments such as
- 34:49large quartz deposits and underground water in the region,
- 34:52that could also potentially be playing roles.
- 34:55For example, one theory suggests that the combination of such
- 34:58mineral deposits and flowing groundwater under the house
- 35:01might have created a natural energy that spirits used to
- 35:04manifest. And while I was more personally
- 35:07convinced of paranormal interpretation taking place,
- 35:11it's important to highlight that Steve Lee himself did not remain
- 35:14fully convinced. That it was ghosts.
- 35:16He explored alternate theories that at times contradicted the
- 35:19paranormal narrative. By the late 1990s, after
- 35:23witnessing psychic evidence and strange photos, Steve publicly
- 35:26voiced suspicions that the haunting was a cover for
- 35:29something else clandestine government activity on his
- 35:32property. In interviews with the local
- 35:34press. Steve famously said that this
- 35:37ain't no poltergeist, this is the government.
- 35:40How can someone do this and continue to get away with it?
- 35:43He theorized that his family was unwittingly subjected to
- 35:46experimental weapons testing, possibly by the US military or
- 35:50intelligence agencies. Given their homes remote forest
- 35:53location, it seemed like it would be the ideal place for
- 35:57secret tests. Steve noted the proximity of
- 35:59military installations, and indeed Black Forest sits east of
- 36:04the US Air Force Academy and not far from Fort Carson and other
- 36:08bases. He also speculated about
- 36:10technologies like laser beams, chemical agents, or
- 36:14psychological warfare devices causing the phenomena.
- 36:18And it's not totally out of the realm of possibility, albeit I
- 36:21don't know, they're both plausible in my opinion.
- 36:24Steve reported on occasion seeing figures and camouflage
- 36:27fatigues with guns on the edge of his property, which he took
- 36:30as possible Special Forces operatives.
- 36:33During some incidents, the household electricity would.
- 36:36Cut out, which Steve thought was a tactic.
- 36:38To allow intruders in undetected, he even claimed to
- 36:41have snapped photos of what looked like armed soldiers
- 36:43hiding among trees, though he never showed these publicly.
- 36:47Furthermore, he suspected that the chemical smell could have
- 36:50actually been a biochemical agent sporadically released in
- 36:54the home, yet no known chemical was ever found.
- 36:57These theories certainly venture into conspiracy territory, and
- 37:01even Steve's wife, Beth, and others were not fully on board
- 37:03with them. Stevens claims, while
- 37:05intriguing, sometimes border on fanatical.
- 37:08There is, of course, no evidence to support the idea of secret
- 37:12agents playing ghostly pranks in the black.
- 37:14Forest. Now that I've recapped the story
- 37:17and given some updates, in summary, The Black Forest
- 37:21haunting of the Lee Family remains A potent modern ghost
- 37:24story 1, where the lines between legend and investigation blur.
- 37:28My original video capture the dramatic essence of the tale,
- 37:31and further research only adds to its mystique.
- 37:34Whether one leans towards the paranormal explanation, multiple
- 37:38restless spirits drawn by a vortex, or the more skeptical
- 37:41angles and undiscovered human agency or psychological
- 37:45phenomenon, the fact is that something highly unusual
- 37:48transpired in that house in the woods of Colorado.
- 37:52As Steve Lee pointedly asked, where could this be coming from
- 37:55and for what purpose? Those questions linger
- 37:58unanswered. What the Lee family and many
- 38:01witnesses experienced in the Black Forest challenges our
- 38:04understanding of the world, and This is why the haunting
- 38:07continues to be discussed, studied, and shrouded in both
- 38:12fear and fascination. Thank you guys so much for
- 38:16watching this latest video. It is a bit of a revisited case
- 38:20with some additional details that I missed in the original
- 38:23video, and I tried to find some new information on it as well.

- 38:39Aside from that, guys, I have some brand new videos still in
- 38:42the works. It's kind of a more or less a
- 38:44rotation of content these days, but this latest one I'm working
- 38:48on, which is taking me a little bit.
- 38:49It's over a very notorious occult figure.
- 38:52So definitely keep an eye out for that.
- 38:54And with that being said, this has been Cody here at Mystery
- 38:57Archives. Make sure to stay safe out there
- 39:00from sketchy government agencies, ghosts, or any and all
- 39:04things that could go bump in the night and I'll see you next
