- 0:33[SPEAKER_01]: There's no problem.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to get into the episode.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm happy that it's Wednesday.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: I love a hump day, especially because we're going away this weekend.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: There we go.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: This weekend isn't.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: We're leaving tomorrow night.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: I am excited to be here today.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: Talk about some new things that are going on on the internet.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: You could say.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: And first I want to talk about
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: Our little, a little morning today because we kind of have now that we're like committing to Being very consistent with the podcast We have established like we need a little ritual little routine before we record to sort of get like in the proper mindset
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: And you know what always works for me, either a bike ride, like I said in the last episode, I just feel good.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: I need to go outside, you know, get my thoughts together.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think going outside is like the umbrella.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: The way in which you go outside, whether it's a bike ride with it, it's a walk, you know.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: Those are the only two ways you can go outside.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: I guess.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we can't fly.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so yeah, we went on a nice, nice, beautiful walk.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: It was a little crisp outside.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so excited for it to be crisp.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm enjoying it so much to be like, I should have added an actually.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: I know, but it's right now it's still at the perfect time where you can wear a t-shirt or like a thin long sleeve and then put on your puffer jacket.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I love that combo.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't love the
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, hoodie, then the puffer, it's a lot of layers.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: I love a t-shirt and a puffer, but it needs to be like a good puffer.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: I thought you were about to say it's still the good weather where you don't need a puffer jacket and you can wear like a thin, long sleeve and a sweater on top.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you can do that too.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's the good thing about this summer year that you can, you can really play around a little bit.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: We need, we need you to play around a little bit more.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: We can't have you.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's a thing.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: When, once you get it's cold,
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yoni is like, I don't care anymore, and you just, you just throw on that black puffer every day on top of whatever you can't do that.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: So that means I got to get new puffer jackets.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: Well, just like we got to build out the options for you.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's like some days you can do like a sweater, something underneath, and you know we got to get you into the layering.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: You know I'm not a big layering guy.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, but I do need to get into it.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and then yesterday, I decided to make some cinnamon rolls.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: I am, uh, I got, I got this stand mixer for Christmas last year and
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: I then January came around and I was like, I'm trying to get on my health shit.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to get in my going to the gym and all that.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: So then I was like, stand mixer, you know?
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: The stand mixer, if you don't know what that is, is like,
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: Um, like a mixer that is honestly, it's like a mixer that is made so you can make like dough, you can make bread, you can make, you know, like things that need to make for a long time.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's a pretty big machine, like it takes a lot of space.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like when you look at our kitchen, that's the fur, especially because you wanted a red one.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I wanted it to be red and of course it's my it's my color and I think it looks really nice in our kitchen.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: It adds like personal like someone someone cooks here, you know, someone bakes here.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, last time you used it was when I don't know, but basically I haven't used it.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: I used it like less than five times since I got it last Christmas, which is out of shameful to say, but I just wanted to get it to have it, it's part of your arsenal and your kitchen.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's passed down through generations, so yesterday I wanted to put it to good use and I made some cinnamon rolls.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: And we had some this morning, we just had some now with some tea, had a little icing on mine, you know, he doesn't like icing.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, it's too too sweet.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: But what did you think of the cinnamon roll?
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: Because you didn't have one yesterday.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I didn't have one yesterday.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: I was going to have one after dinner, but then... Then I didn't, because I was... First of all, he was late.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like I had dinner late.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: You had dinner like 10 p.m. Yeah, like I wanted to stop doing it.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: I want to have dinner at 7 or 8.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, eight, seven, eight is like a perfect time.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like low keys, six will be perfect, six, 30.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: Then get a little snack, like a little snack before 10.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like no, before bedtime, like a yogurt or something.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: But what did I think about the cinema role?
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, it was perfect.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: When you look at the photo that you took, it looks like it's not even real.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like it looked like you bought it from the store and then you put it in the oven here.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't look like you made it at home.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like it's quite picture perfect that you can say that myself.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: So just visually it looked good.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: And it also wasn't too sweet.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like it was sweet, which I love.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: But that's because if you eat it with a little bit of icing,
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: So, I didn't have a C-mic to icing.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: I made it when you weren't here.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: But it's in the fridge.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: But you're not really an icing guy.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's not.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: 10 out of 10.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: I had it earlier.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: Put it into microwave.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: Even though I feel like when I want to heat it up, I should put it in the oven, right?
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like putting it in the microwave for 10, 15 seconds.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like I did the same thing and it came out.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: It tasted just as it did when it was fresh.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: 15 seconds is a lot.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: nine seconds, is that perfect?
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: Something about putting something like that in the oven, you've got to preheat the oven.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like it's going to be like 40 minutes before I get to eat it.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, pretty much.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: So that was our little routine before the pod.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: And now we're ready to sit down and really get into today's episode.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: Because I don't know if everyone is going to be like,
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: super interested in getting into this episode's topic to the level that we will, but I also think it is definitely on our minds as, you know, being creators on the internet, posting on the internet, utilizing the internet and the specific app.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: called Instagram on a daily basis and it's how we, you know, it is our job.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: So, everybody saw what happened recently.
- 7:24[UNKNOWN]: What happened?
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: Well, so dramatic.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think most people know that now there's long form on YouTube.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like that's... You say that one more time.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: long-form on YouTube.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, long-form videos on Instagram.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I don't think I have that feature yet.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't seen it except for the fact that my friend posted on her story that she posted a long video.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: And then I clicked on it and saw that that was a thing for her.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm not seeing long videos anywhere.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's not like being given to me anywhere.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: If you go on your spoken, you don't see, I don't see, no, I just see like reels and photos.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to talk about how we feel about long-form videos today, but I didn't want to take Instagram back or take the conversation back to 2010 when Instagram first launched.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: Just really quickly.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: Now we're talking about what were some of our like, you know, favorite features that came in when some features that came and stayed and then some features that we still never even had that we would like to have in a future.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so 2000 when did you get Instagram?
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: I got Instagram when it first like, I mean it I don't know what year came but like 2010 October 6 2010 yeah And I got it.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like that week.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: I got it.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: I definitely didn't I don't think I got it then because I was still living in Romania at the time And like it was like Facebook was all the
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: all the rage.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: And like maybe it didn't exist.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: So it wasn't in Romania.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: But I think I got into Instagram like the year that I moved to the US slash Canada.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: So like 2011.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: What were some of your first things?
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: Because it was just a photo sharing app, right?
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: Square photo.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: And it was like you have your friends on there.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it was more like a friend's thing.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like the people that you know are the people that you follow on there.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: So it kind of seemed like a different messaging app.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like, you know, at the time it was like, you had Yahoo Messenger, you had like BBM.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: If you had like blackberry, blackberry phone and then you had Facebook where also Facebook, you only had your friends.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: And family.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: So then Instagram to me was just kind of like Facebook, but only photos.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: I remember thinking of Inst, that was the first time, well, first was just friends and family.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: On Instagram.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: But then, once they introduced hashtags, because hashtags came a little bit later, maybe a year after.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: That was about first time interacting with or seeing strangers.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like through hashtags, you can discover new people.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: And they can follow new people.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: But I remember the first people I followed without knowing them.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: I literally remember thinking like this is so we are following someone I don't know But why what made you fall someone you don't know then because they like they like I like their photos
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and that was my early days of, that might have even been before photography, but I always enjoyed photographs and, you know, photos.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: I want to say that I can't remember like, I think the first people that I followed on Instagram that were not people in my real life were probably celebrities.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: because I think in like 2012, 2013, I was like really into Kylie Jenner, but it was like not, it's not like who she is now.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: She had like you know.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: like a blue hair tips and she had like a short bob and she had like half of like the tips of her hair with like blue.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I know what that means but I just I don't feel like I've never seen that.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah because you probably weren't paying attention to Kylie Jen.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: At that time yeah and she would wear like specific outfits I should wear like leggings with like combat boots and then she
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: have like her long nails and she would have like all of these um like love bracelets from Cartier and then like the love rings then I got myself like a fake love ring from eBay.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I remember just to have that when we met.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I got like a cartilage ear piercing.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, why did you have it for five years?
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: because it was just became like comfortable on my finger.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: If you got it in 2012.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: I had it when we met.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: Why did you, I feel like it changed color.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: And it was originally gold.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: What I meant for you was that she was silver.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but I also had like a bracelet.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: And, but yeah, the first people that like, I followed they on Instagram that I didn't know weren't just like random people.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: They were celebrities.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: Celebrities.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: Mine were definitely photographers I would say.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: Really?
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, photographers and basketball players.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: Which could say celebrities, best players.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: And 20.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: And then I was using at the time like the photos that I was posting.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: were like super random and like bad Like you'd be like a photo of like a like a like a lunch wrap that I made.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then I would put like that nasty What was a call again filter that was like not rainbow But it kind of made the super brown one.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: I forget it.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, see Pia.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: No, I didn't use that one.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: There was like one that was kind of like
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: saturated vintage retro looking.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: And then some of them had like a border that was like, like a like a film burn.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, so I used that.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: I was into the borders a lot.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: So, but then at some point I was like, no, I'm over it.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, there was like specific borders that you could put on it.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was into the white border.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: Because the white border was like a little bit thicker.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, that didn't come into later.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: The white border.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, maybe no and that was like I think you have to use like a different app to do that like I don't think it was in Instagram Really yeah, and then those like it's crazy think that Instagram there's still filters on Instagram
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: But like, I don't think anybody used them because, oh, because you know what happened.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: It went from somewhere along the way Visco got into the Into the commerce into that world Visco out of your Visco was such a huge part of my life 2015 specifically
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was later like 2014.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: 2015, I used to be on every, I still have to visco apple my phone right now.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it was like a specific, I think it was maybe like C1 or something.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: It was like the green, I would use this like green blue like filter on visco.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, and that's where like you started to care a little bit more.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: yeah about posting your like what the photos look like but that was when I was really into photography yeah and really into Instagram like at the beginning I always been into Instagram okay but like at the beginning you're posting like similar photos that you would post on your Facebook profile or like make an album on Facebook with like photos with your friends like it wasn't like trying to be cool or trying to be artsy or like anything
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: I remember on Instagram when it first came out when I would post a photo and a person would like it.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like I remember, all I wanted was more than 11 likes because after 11 likes on Instagram back in the day is when it changed for like the random names of the people who liked your photo to a number because it would be like really so it would just say that seems like a lot of names no it would be yeah I mean I just remember it was I mean it's
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but think about having like the 10 names.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: No, it was like that.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it says that and others, but I remember 11 was specific number that once you hit, once you go from 10 likes to 11, 12, 13.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: After 11, I was like, I made it.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm good.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: And that the time it was only, it was only likes in comments.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: There was like, like, comments, did comments come later?
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe like, maybe comments came a little bit later.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, comments came later.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: And then video came later, like 2013.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: I remember video.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because first it was just photos.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like video came like a while later, like, I don't know.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, I remember it like back because by 2014 videos was already there, you know?
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, Visco was so people weren't really using the, what do you call the filters as well?
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think it depends who you were, like what generation were?
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, we're saying that now, like maybe there's still people using that right now.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean boomers, like older people are from using like the in Instagram.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: like editing stuff and like filters.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's more people who use it.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: Who knows?
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: Who knows?
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think there's a millennial or gen Z that is using like the Instagram in app filters to post photos on Instagram.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be surprised.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, 2015 and 2016 that's when I don't know if you specifically remember that but that is when the influencer error started to become like you started to have regular people who were not famous, regular people who would have a lot of following like you know 200K, a million, 500K and those would be a lot of I don't know like artists or fashion people.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: Do you remember that time?
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: Because I was following a lot of photographers or at that time and they were specifically from Toronto.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think at that time, I was mostly like paying attention to again.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't know, I was also dancing at the time.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_01]: I was like not preoccupied with like being on my phone.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: Like that, even though I was on my phone, and I was mostly following like either music artists, celebrities, maybe some like ballet people.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: And oh, and at that time, I feel like 2015, 2016, there would be like the page that was like BuzzFeed and BuzzFeed with like post those videos that would be like.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, like let's see what happens if you throw this against the wall or like I don't know, it would be like weird sort of videos like that or like tasty that would have a bunch of like recipes of like how to make like really easy random recipes and they would just be like the overhead shot quake arms putting stuff in a bowl and it becomes like whatever thing.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you always been into food.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't see any of that.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was watching a lot of that.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's also when stories came 2015 and 2016 Yeah, but Snapchat was also big at that time Yeah, that's why that's why stories came I think really.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_01]: They were all actually no it could be because Snapchat No, but Snapchat was like wasn't 24 hour thing.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Snapchat didn't even have stories back then
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: It was that like Snapchat was that something would disappear as soon as you opened it.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: But yours, Snapchat was a wilder on that time.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Snapchat was like the main, I wasn't even texting people.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there was a certain moment where I feel like most of the conversations I was having with friends was on Snapchat.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: Because it was no longer just like sending photos and snaps.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: It was also just like messaging each other on Snapchat.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and videos.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_01]: And having like a whole conversation.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: So then I was like never really texting people, like on text.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I remember that if I text is someone on text, it was so weird.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_01]: Or like serious.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I had some crazy conversations on Snapchat in 2015.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: There was always crazy.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, especially to like, if, um, I never really was a, like, big fan of it.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't know.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_00]: It was, I was, I was so Instagram.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I don't Snapchat it's cool.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_00]: What people would ask, hey, like, what's your snap?
- 20:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, this is my snap, but I don't really like use it.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: There might have been a year where I was really like into it, but it's coming back now.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like now there's still people who use it that way.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it depends where you live and how old you are.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like my younger cousins, they all, they, that's how they speak to each other.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but how old are they?
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, like 21, 1918.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and like they live in a different country, right?
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: But also here in America.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: You didn't notice?
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: What?
- 21:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like the younger, like what you call that generation?
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but that's what I'm saying.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's either a certain age or in a certain country.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's Snapchat is like popular.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think like millennials in the US are using Snapchat to like do anything.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: Or even Jen's ears in the US.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think are using Snapchat.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: But maybe like Jen's ears are more millennials in the good different country probably are using it more than Instagram.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: But if there's definitely Jen's the Jen's he definitely uses Snapchat in the US.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Jen's
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: The young, I don't know how long the Gen Z generation goes, like how young someone has to be.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know, maybe.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_00]: Do you remember, we talked about this yesterday, do you remember IG TV before long form now?
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: IG TV, do you remember?
- 22:16[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like I don't remember it.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: I remember it, like, as a concept that it was a thing that came at the time,
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: And, and then nobody cared about it.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I feel like it wasn't, you was too early.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: But it was before the Reels Evenings is did or TikTok, you made this, I think.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: TikTok was like COVID, yeah, so IGTV came and went and nobody cared, kind of crazy to think about it actually.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_00]: When TikTok came out, where you want it?
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: In the beginning?
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: You're still barely on it.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm still barely on it.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I feel like that's when the reals came out in that sort of way.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, reals came out after TikTok.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because there were like Instagram was like, we need to do something.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_00]: TikTok is going crazy with you.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I wasn't, I wasn't on it.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, during COVID at the beginning, I was still, I got wasn't online, like making content or anything.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't until like a bit later, like 2021.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was 2021, because that's also when the pot started.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: 2020 was crazy.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but we started the pot a year after I started YouTube, because we were in like our second apartment.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah yeah yeah so our first department we moved in it was still COVID.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: because I remember I was unboxing masks, but, yeah, I don't know, like Instagram for me, it's so interesting thing about it back then, because I think in general, it wasn't a big part of people's lives, the way that it is now, it's incomparable, obviously.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's become such a different
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: It was still a big part of our lives back then.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: Not at this level, baby.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_00]: Not at this level.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like, back when you could see, we talked about just yesterday how you could see people's activities, like those app, those like a, oh yeah.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: And you could see aliazites like Christians follow.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or like left a comment or something.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: You can see everything.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: You can see all your business.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: So like if you were talking to someone like romantically and then you see them liking and like I remember I was talking to a girl or if I was talking to someone and I see her in the right thing with another guy's post.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: I will go to the guy's post but who is this guy?
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_00]: And then like why is she like in his photos and I can see all the comments and that was a time where like if you were to do some sneaky shit like you definitely were getting caught.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's actually kind of crazy.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: Especially if you didn't know that feature existed.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: But the thing is that feature existed at the time when Instagram was still four friends.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: Content creators didn't exist making money, brands should paid partnerships and none of that existed on Instagram.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: No, that didn't exist.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: At the time, like Instagram was truly like Facebook in the sense of it was a social media platform.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: It was there to connect with friends, to share photos,
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: But still, even if I could see you liking another guy's I don't I wouldn't have to be friends with that guy to be able to see their interactions Of course not because you're it's about your friends with me and I'm interacting with whoever's content Yeah, but you are right in the sense of at that time it was very like it made.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'll say if you know Instagram felt like a place where there's just like I felt like there was only positivity
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it was like your friends were just there.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_01]: You're seeing what they're into what they're doing.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: It was, it was, but nobody was thinking it was going to become like what it is today.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and I don't know like to get because you brought up IGTV to get into like what we're actually trying to talk about is
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: If not everybody probably knows about the whole like new introduction of long-form video on Instagram and maybe not everybody is going to care necessarily, but for us as I explained before because of what we do for, you know, the podcast, YouTube, like all of that.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think
- 26:36[SPEAKER_01]: being creators on Instagram is quite exhausting from the standpoint that there's always something new coming.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: There's always a new feature.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: There's always a new thing.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: Now you can post instant photos.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: Now you can update your status with us.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_00]: Have you ever posted a instant?
- 26:56[SPEAKER_01]: No, I didn't even know that existed or like I didn't even I feel like I see it in the corner sometimes accidently click on it and I exit You know what is this like it's too.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's too like a b-real.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: I remember when it first came out I didn't know like I remember taking the photo But thinking that I would have to have the chance to look at the photo that I took you don't know the moment you take it.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_00]: It goes live So I didn't know So I posted saw took some random selfies.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's crazy.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's how it works
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because it's an instant.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's a little too instant for me.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_00]: And it's kind of like a B-wheel, but at least with B-wheel you get to look at it and be like, do I want this out there or not?
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: But where do people see your instant?
- 27:37[SPEAKER_00]: They see it on your story tab, on your DM slide.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: So if you go to your DMs, you could see like on the right hand corner, you could see like different photos that people posted.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_00]: And those are just the in the moment.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of cool, but what's the point?
- 27:55[SPEAKER_01]: just to have something else but you know it's like listening to the interview that the CEO of Instagram had where he was saying that it's like all the features are very like used by specific people.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: So teenagers are loving instance.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like teenagers today use that so much.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: I see people use it to like I have a bunch of instant that I don't even look at and also the crazy thing is you don't get to see like you don't know who looked, not that it matters right but you know you don't know who looked, you don't know how many people looked, you can act it, now you can even make an instant video.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: So you make a video and then but it's too like you want people to know where you're at exactly.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to share where you're at, it could just be like what you're eating, what you're doing, but then I'm like how is it different than a story.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: Well, because story... Oh, because you can't, you have to take a photo like with an incident, you can't upload like a photo from your gallery.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: So it's truly like whatever you're doing right now.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_00]: The story should be like that.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: Nah.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: When you take, when you post something on your story, do you take it from you from your camera?
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: Never.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_00]: From your camera phone?
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: Never.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the...
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: The... What am I supposed to say?
- 29:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't take a photo on a story.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: I take a photo from my gallery.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: I never take a photo story, that's crazy.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_00]: When I take it, I want to start using because I take way too many pictures and they all stay in my phone.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: I never go back to the lead.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I want to just take them from the Instagram app.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: If I'm posting a story, I just want to take it up, but then it would be like, if I met a restaurant like,
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: people would know exactly where I'm at.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: Not those people are looking for me, but you know how they say you never want to post.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_00]: Why you're looking at me like that?
- 29:46[SPEAKER_01]: You don't listen, you say.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_01]: No, I was listening, but I was kind of like, thinking about something that's similar to that.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like I tell you, you're listening, but you're not listening.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm listening.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_00]: You never want to post a story when you're still at that location.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think regular people don't like care about letting people know where they're at.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: you know.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's pretty safe to say that most people would post after you leave a location.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_01]: And also these days I don't think anyone would assume because you posted on your story you're still there.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know?
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: But let's get into what what the long form thing means for us and kind of why we even wanted to have this episode on the first place.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: I can talk from my perspective on this because when I saw my friend who is also a creator, she posted on Instagram, TikTok, she also posted on YouTube and she, um, she's the reason why even saw this is a thing because she posted one of her YouTube videos to Instagram.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know what this is called.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like this part.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like this reels.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: There's grid and then what is this?
- 31:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think you should just be...
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's not IGTV, they're not calling it the same thing.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like they should, but because what else is it?
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know what that's called.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what that's called.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's a bad name.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: LF.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: So then she basically like linked that and then I went on her profile and that's how I was like, oh damn, they're letting you like post a whole long video now and there's a whole like section in your profile and my immediate thought was like, oh, here we go with the whole new thing.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: And for me, as someone who like started on long-form content and started posting on YouTube, and that's kind of my bread and butter, and I still feel that way about, you know, my job.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: I can't help but be resistant about this for several reasons, but I think one of them is that Instagram is becoming to, I don't know what the correct term is for this, but they're trying to be everything.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's becoming to everything app.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: and they're trying to basically keep everyone only on Instagram and never go on any other app.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: And that's one thing that I don't like because then you're putting all your eggs in one basket.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: The second reason I don't like it is because I have built my YouTube for the last like six years.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: Um, to a point that I'm really proud and that took a lot of work, it took a lot of time, it took a lot of just so much.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: And now when I'm like going out and about when I'm like meeting other creators it's very niche to be a YouTuber these days.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone is a content creator on Instagram and TikTok.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot less people that are posting long form YouTube content.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_01]: And that's because it's a lot of work.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's a lot of time.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: One YouTube video takes as much time as
- 33:15[SPEAKER_01]: So the amount of times that I've heard long short form content creators say, like, oh, like I've been meaning to kid into YouTube, but it's just like so much work.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 33:31[SPEAKER_01]: And the whole idea of like I would have to start from like zero again, like let's say they have like a big following on Instagram and in a way it's like from a business standpoint I don't have a problem and like don't mind that at all that less people are like kind of trying to get on YouTube because that means obviously less competition because what I do is still my job so it's a business in some shape or form.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: And now I feel like Instagram introducing this is sort of making it easier for these people that have been wanting to get into long form to sort of make it feel more approachable and for them to sort of enter that side of the industry where now they can leverage they don't have to worry about building a whole new audience like I had to do when I started posting on Instagram and I had to feel like the numbers compared to YouTube
- 34:28[SPEAKER_01]: feel so different.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you could be used to getting so much engagement on one app.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_01]: And then when you're trying to grow a new app, you have to be a bit humble and you have to kind of get a and let your ego go to be like, oh, the numbers are clearly not going to be as high as they are on your other platform that you've developed for the last few years.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: And that's one thing that might keep some people away, plus the amount of work.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_01]: But now
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: with like Instagram sort of evening out the plain field and sort of making it easier for people to get started with long from content, it just kind of, I don't know, frustrates me a little bit if that makes sense.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_01]: That was a long-winded reasoning, but...
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a valid, if I build something for them in the years and now you can just have it on Instagram, then people, but I don't think it's the same.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's the same at all, like the reason why someone would post long form on YouTube is not the same reason why someone would want to post it on YouTube.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: You just said YouTube.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I mean Instagram.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know like yeah, because I think a long form on Instagram could be interesting Whenever whenever they'll be able to have like Instagram TV I feel like that's it.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing that's coming I don't know when but it just feels weird to have to pull up Instagram on your TV and I don't even know what it looks like
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: Can you do that?
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, apparently it already exists that you can have the Instagram app where you basically open Instagram on your phone on your TV and then oh, okay.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_01]: Well So that's what they're saying they're like they want to make it the option that if you are watching a video On your like a long video on your phone and you want to finish it later.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_01]: You can like save it to then watch it on your TV at home
- 36:33[SPEAKER_00]: But if I'm going to watch something on TV, I'm just watching YouTube.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like I love YouTube might be my favorite platform because I love long-form more than anything.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like short-form, I like it at school.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: It reaches people.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: You discover new people, new people discover you.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to be discovered, you know, some people are just on Instagram just to be on it.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you don't care about being discovered, right?
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: But if this is your job in some way, in some way, then being discovered is
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: important and discoverability on short form on Instagram specifically is way better than is on YouTube.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's guaranteed.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: So between the two, if I had to just think by if I want to watch a long video, I'm going to YouTube.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to go
- 37:21[SPEAKER_00]: Because also, people need to start uploading this stuff.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't know who uploads and now we're, I don't even know how your work is like, I think you can upload from your computer, apparently, like you log in to Instagram.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_00]: So a YouTube creator would, let's say you're already monetized on YouTube, right?
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: And you post your video there, you get the views, the ads, and whatever you get, you know, that's great if you're in that position.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a lot of people trying to get there.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: So let's say you're already in there and you're enrolled in the, you know, the Adsense program and all that you posted your video and now you're also going to post the same video full video on YouTube on Instagram on Instagram saying YouTube to us.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry on Instagram.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: It would be a waste, like, if I'm posting a video on YouTube, I won't everyone, everyone to go to one place.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you also want it to be like exclusively there, because if you're making it available, like, in multiple places.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: People would just watch it.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_01]: There will be some viewers that will choose to watch it on Instagram, and you're losing the viewer on YouTube, then, that maybe they would have gone to YouTube.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly, but now, but this is exactly what Instagram wants to do.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: In the interview, he said that he is, they are thinking more about, you know, introducing long form in getting, exactly what I was talking about, less in getting established long form creators to now post on Instagram because they don't have the incentive.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_01]: They're not going to pay creators.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_01]: There's no ads, there's no ad sense to make off of that.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_01]: And they are hoping to sort of like connect the brands with creators on that.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_01]: So like getting brand partnerships on a long-form video on Instagram is like kind of what they're betting on.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_01]: So like I could work with the brand the way that I do on YouTube, but it would be like also posted on Instagram or just posted on Instagram as a long video.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: But what he said is like, it's gonna be a really tough and really hard sell to get an established YouTube creator to post their long video on Instagram because they have no incentive to do that.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_01]: However, they're making, they're hoping that they're gonna get people that are new.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_01]: that are just now trying to get into long-form content, to post their long-form content on Instagram.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not people that are established on you.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: But how would they benefit from that?
- 40:06[SPEAKER_01]: Because they might already have an audience.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_00]: If you have an audience on Instagram, that you have grown,
- 40:17[SPEAKER_01]: you will be more inclined to post your long-form content on Instagram.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: Because you don't have to start from zero.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to start from zero.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: You already have an audience there that will watch it versus like going on Instagram, or going on YouTube.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_00]: So I feel like it's mainly for those people.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what he was saying in that interview.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_01]: Is that he's not so much thinking and trying to convince the well-established long-form creators to start posting their stuff on Instagram as well.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously that would be great.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_01]: eventually.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_01]: But he's thinking more of like more of their target audience with this is like established shore from content creators or new creators or whatever to start thinking of Instagram as like a place to do that as well or to get that started.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_01]: Which I understand.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_00]: That makes total sense if you think about it that way.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: But if you're already established on YouTube,
- 41:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it just doesn't make sense from like a business standpoint.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's like you will only cutting your views in half, maybe.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like you don't even think it's a silly half.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: Not in half, but definitely you want everyone to go to one place.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: I least fit me in my brain if I'm created on both platforms.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'm posting a long phone video.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be in one place.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not posting the same video on three different platforms.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like I don't think I would post any of my long videos on Instagram.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: You can post a snippet.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: You can post like if you have a 30 minute video, you can maybe do like a five to eight minute video just to show people what's on you to be very interested.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think there's some sort of like, um, some sort of like marketing tactic that you could use that way.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I want to talk a bit about, um,
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: sort of how how you were saying like in YouTube is I don't know if you said YouTube is like your favorite app, but like if you're watching, if you want to there's a very different sort of behavior role, um, behavior.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: be heavier or be heavier?
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: I was trying to sound all smart and shit.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_01]: There's a very specific mindset that drives someone to go to YouTube versus Instagram.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_00]: When do you find yourself going to YouTube the most?
- 42:46[SPEAKER_01]: I find myself going to YouTube when I'm about to sit down for like a minute.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_01]: So if I'm like making lunch,
- 42:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm gonna sit down to have lunch.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna look for a YouTube video to watch with my lunch.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_00]: You're not gonna start your lunch before you found a video.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean the pens, but that's what I go to like I'm not thinking I'm going to sit down scrolling on Reels or ticks occurs.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_00]: It also takes away a hand that you might need a whole sandwich.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and also something about it is like I don't like it like for me being on Instagram or this and that is like with my In my mind, I'm thinking I'm going to be here for a little bit
- 43:32[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm gonna be here for like a little bit.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll scroll for a little bit.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'll look at some stuff.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'll look at, you know, people's stories or whatever, check my DMs.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: I have a, we also have a very specific relationship with Instagram because we also are creators and we work on there, which is a double edged sword because oftentimes I go on the app to actually do something work related and then I get like start scrolling.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_01]: I start looking at random shit.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_01]: I go down a rabbit hole and it's so quick.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_00]: Some of you have to get why you needed to go on there every time after I scroll for like 10 minutes Now I'm looking at random stuff and I go from one thing to the next next time I'm like, wait But what was I even trying but it was crazy the moment I lock my phone I remember what I needed because when I because when I look I'm all my computer and my phone is next to me And I need to do some to check something for work on my phone Go to Instagram
- 44:30[SPEAKER_00]: I reply to a DM and then they send me a real then I look at that and then I put my phone away as in like let me go back to work on my computer but the moment I look at my screen I'm like oh I need this from my phone yeah yeah same you know yeah that has too many times the moment I look I get on YouTube the most is definitely when I sit down for a meal when I do dishes
- 44:57[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: What did you do something where you can't use your hands?
- 44:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: Even though you know, it's funny.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_00]: We have a dishwasher, but there's something about just cleaning all the dishes by hand.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_00]: It gives me time to watch a video.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: Mmm.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_01]: Is that what you do it?
- 45:14[SPEAKER_00]: Ah, maybe.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like most of the time because it's like a 10 minutes where I can watch a video that I've been meeting and watching.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I do that when I do the dishes.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_00]: So that's why I don't even use the dishwasher because it's like, I don't know.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_00]: I like watching a video, you know?
- 45:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_00]: And also when I'm sitting down to eat, but those are the only times I watch YouTube.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_00]: I remember all that was going to say earlier, when I used to work at the coffee shop, going when it was my lunch time, I think lunch was maybe 15 minutes.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_00]: Lunch time was 15 minutes, I go downstairs and I'm excited to watch a video, right?
- 45:54[SPEAKER_00]: This connect put my headphones on, don't talk to me during this time.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_00]: You know, don't tap me on my shoulder during my lunch break.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, Yoni, do you have the, I don't have anything talked to me after my lunch, right?
- 46:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_00]: So in as I sit down and a time is ticking.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_00]: I used to put like this timer 15 minutes, but
- 46:12[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you would take me so long to find a video.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_00]: So then I'm thinking like, but I can't eat yet.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like something about taking that first bite when the video starts is like, okay, let's go.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're in the, yeah, yeah.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_01]: Everything's figured out.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I just remember like trying to hurry and finding a video, which makes me think of why, like how come it takes me that long to find a video?
- 46:37[SPEAKER_01]: Well, because sometimes you've already watched everything that you are into, so then you kind of have to find something that you're like, not really into, but let me see if this works.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know, stores when you start a video and then like, you don't like it, so you have to like restart.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_01]: And then you're kind of like already done your meal and you're like down.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_01]: That was not really.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_01]: That was not.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't hit.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, it's kind of the same with movies too, like, or I think with me movies and popcorn.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think with us is really big, like we do really enjoy watching something while we eat, you know, with each their own.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's not necessarily the healthiest thing, but... No, it's nothing not.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_01]: Especially if I'm like, if I cooked up some good stuff, like a really good meal, then I really can't start eating until I like, choose something.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: But it's interesting.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_01]: At lunch,
- 47:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'll watch YouTube, I dinner, I'll watch like a streaming service, so like Netflix.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you watch something together.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we also do watch stuff together, but... Yeah, sometimes we don't watch anything.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_01]: I do think we watch things separately more than we watch things together, just because we're not really into the same thing.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_01]: And that's okay.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_01]: We have many other things that we're, we share.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like during the whole day we do a lot of things together, but then sometimes when it comes to food, when I really want to watch something and you want to watch something, then we just kind of like do a thing separately.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_00]: But I kind of wish we need to start working on eating together and just...
- 48:11[SPEAKER_00]: But see, this is the thing, when you have a podcast and you are with the same person 24-7.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_01]: We really are together on intro.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_00]: When it's time to eat, it's almost like our alone time.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_00]: But it sounds bad because it's like when you eat this is when you're supposed to like talk and catch up, but we do that catch up all the time.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we catch up all the time and then also sometimes we just catch up randomly or like on the podcast so that it makes a good video a good a good episode.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's different if people work in the office and they don't see each other all day.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, see, that's the difference.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's not the case.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_00]: Because I can already see a comment like, you guys should, when it's dinner time, you guys should connect and talk about how your day was.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_00]: But like, I know how you day was.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm with you all day.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like you go to work.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_00]: I go to work then we catch up at dinner.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's what people do and it's dope.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: You'd be crazy to be away all day and then come back at six o'clock make dinner and then you still don't talk to your partner.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_01]: And you watch stuff separately on your, like you're, and you have a sitting show they're all this.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's different.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's different, of course.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_01]: If I didn't see you all day and then we came home and we're gonna eat.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's the time.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, we're gonna hang out.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I never thought about it, that way.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_00]: Because sometimes I feel bad, like I don't feel bad, but sometimes it won't be easy.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_01]: When we're doing it on thing.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm thinking like, damn, like, should we not just talk about something?
- 49:32[SPEAKER_00]: But then I think about, like, talk about what?
- 49:36[SPEAKER_01]: because that's what we'd be talking all day.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like I ran them times a day, I'll be like, hey babe, this, this, this, this like we're together in the same space.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like this, you guys, this little enough thing to talk about at dinner time, that's like, because anything that she thinks of, or I, that's on my mind, sure nobody knows.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but we also say it in the moment.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_00]: We always say in a moment, yeah, because we're together all the time.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: So you're always available for me to just share what crosses my mind.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like, oh, I'm going to tell you this had dinner when I see you.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, I can, I see you right now.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you know, that makes me feel a little bit better because sometimes I would be like then, why don't we, you know, talk, but then yeah, and then there are times when like we do sit down and we just like hang out and it's a, it's a, it's a moment when like there's something we do have to talk about or not that it's like the serious conversation, but I don't know.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_00]: No, but I remember the few times when we did it.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, you know what?
- 50:33[SPEAKER_00]: No screens.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_00]: No, nothing.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just, you know, you just cooked up a good ass meal and we just be right.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_00]: But I remember it.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_00]: I remember it acknowledging, okay?
- 50:44[SPEAKER_00]: So like, what are you going to talk about?
- 50:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I felt only 10.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_01]: A few times, it felt that way.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_00]: That's funny.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_01]: And, and I do think because for us, like, our meal times really do feel like
- 51:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_01]: I don't feel any type of way at all.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't really feel guilty in moments when.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_00]: Now I don't feel guilty anymore.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_01]: In moments where I feel like I want to sit and talk, then we just do that.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I don't think I'm sitting and talking.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but some days we don't not like all day like we'll talk in the morning a little bit and then we're both at our computers as if we're like not even home at the same time And then and then we don't talk for like hours.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know Hmm, but it's rare.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's rare.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_01]: So how do you feel about long form?
- 51:45[SPEAKER_00]: Me or the audience
- 51:46[SPEAKER_01]: you.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking to you.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, um, I don't know.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't seen it.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't watched one long from a video.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know, like, how does it look?
- 51:58[SPEAKER_01]: That was another thing that I was going to say to you.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_00]: You can rotate the screen, which is great.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to take a really long time for there to be enough content for people to like think of Instagram as a place to go watch long film form videos.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_01]: Because think about how many
- 52:17[SPEAKER_00]: Remember when they changed from square photos to like the It's not a big one by 16 or whatever.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_01]: Not as big of a difference.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_00]: I remember thinking that's so weird.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_00]: Why does the grid look it's not square anymore?
- 52:29[SPEAKER_00]: I remember thinking it's so odd but now it's normal.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but this is adding a whole other thing.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think it's not the same.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think people are gonna adjust everybody right now.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_00]: They, because you know, I asked that on my, on my Instagram broadcast channel.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_00]: And most people most people said that most people.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I wouldn't actually know it's not most people.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_00]: It was pretty 50-50.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there are a lot of people who were saying that There are absolutely against it if I want to watch long form.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's because there's established creators the algorithm of YouTube knows you and and there's also just so much on there so much on YouTube There's nothing on Instagram.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_00]: So speaking of a long like algorithm on
- 53:20[SPEAKER_00]: Instagram, when you want to watch, let's say right now, I'm about to eat lunch and I want to watch a long form Instagram.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I need to figure out how to call it.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how to call it.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_01]: What's the name?
- 53:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I want to watch a long video on Instagram.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_00]: So where do I go?
- 53:36[SPEAKER_00]: Do I just randomly scroll on my feed?
- 53:39[SPEAKER_00]: Because then I'll see a bunch of I'll see photos.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think everyone has a it.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's very possible that
- 53:45[SPEAKER_00]: But the needs to be a separate timeline for just long form for the people that you follow.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_01]: there might be that we just don't have it yet.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_00]: Because if I have to, if I'm looking for a long video, but I've got to scroll through photos and reels and care cells, that's it's too much.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, so what they're going to, they're the difference and the thing that they're sort of kind of, I think how they're trying to get this long video thing to like integrate into Instagram and how it is today and how people use it.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_01]: is that you're basically going to be in when you you're going to be able to create sort of like a real preview out of your long form video or like the edits app and it's going to show up as a real but then there will be a button at the bottom that says watch full video and then you click on it and it takes you to like the horizontal video
- 54:45[SPEAKER_00]: But to see that real, you just, you just randomly found it.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's going to be in the reels like that thing.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_00]: When I sit down for a meal, I don't want to just, let me see what I get today.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's my thing with YouTube.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_00]: I sit down and I know, okay, I have like a list of 10 people who post consistently.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to watch if this person posted what's the latest video?
- 55:08[SPEAKER_00]: You go on it.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's very straightforward.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_00]: You go to the latest video.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_00]: You click it.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I think when people are scrolling on Instagram, it's kind of like an in-between moment thing.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's in-between.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like there are moments when people like maybe before bed, you know, someone's having like a scroll set, which is just like so bad, but we all do it.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and maybe you're like in bed and you're just like scrolling on your phone.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_01]: and I'm just wondering how many people are going to be scrolling and their mind is so like I'm just looking at a lot of short videos and that's like that's what you're doing.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, you know, that's what you're getting.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_01]: How many people will see a real that then in the moment they're like, you know what?
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: Let me commit to these 20 minutes.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_00]: Let me commit to this hour video right now.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like it's going to work.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think this is going to work.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think it is.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_00]: If it's good.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you'll save it for another time.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the deafen go have to add like a save for later.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like my watch is on YouTube.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_00]: My watch is on YouTube.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_00]: YouTube is so long.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even want to go on it.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you're watching it.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_01]: I never do that.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_00]: I have like a million videos to watch later.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I think that's what I meant to say, but I didn't have the proper, I don't have the proper vocabulary.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_00]: What do you want to say?
- 56:26[SPEAKER_01]: To say like the behavior that people have on Instagram in terms of like a user behavior when you're on it.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_01]: The way they're consuming the app and everything that's awful.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like, I don't know how it's going to convert people.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_00]: And also, you gotta think about sharing videos.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_00]: What's the fun thing about Instagram is that sending reals to each other, sending a real to a friend who might relate, who might think a video is funny.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I'm gonna send a long-form video to someone, because I know they're not gonna watch it, because everyone got 50 seconds to look at something, but no one got 40 minutes to be like, oh, you only just sent me this 40 minute video, let me watch it right now.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, because they have their own things, they wanna talk about,
- 57:10[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_01]: If I have a friend who sends me reels and I open up their DM and I'm looking at like Lisa Dissimmy, like four reels, right?
- 57:20[SPEAKER_01]: I look at one.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, haha, react to it.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_01]: I look at the next one, reply to it.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's so funny.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_01]: I look at all them.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, boom, done.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_01]: How long did that take me?
- 57:28[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe five minutes.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_01]: Depending on how long each video was, right?
- 57:32[SPEAKER_01]: But if my friend sends me a video on Instagram that is long, I'll be like, I'll watch this later.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know like 10 minutes.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_00]: Loki, two, three minutes on Instagram is a long video.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_01]: it just depends also that video like catches me okay and i'm thinking that my friend sent him because they thought i wouldn't enjoy it you know that's or like they would laugh at it okay we'll do watch it if it's open yeah if there's any me a long video i'm not watching it i'm like i watched this later i watch it later but after all the things that i already want to watch later especially because that's what i'm thinking what i'm on instagram i'm thinking i'm on here quick
- 58:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm on your quick, like on Instagram, I'm on your quick.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_00]: So we named that the title, I'm on your quick.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like you know what I mean?
- 58:20[SPEAKER_01]: If I go on Instagram, I'm like, I scroll a little bit, I've gone my DMs, see what's going on there.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_01]: I look at the videos, my friends send me, maybe I scroll myself for like 10 minutes which is not good and that's not really quick.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_00]: But I know that.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_01]: I know that in 10 minutes I'm seeing hell of videos and like I know that's what I'm doing and that's what I want to do Oh, I'm not going.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's such a different thing.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, well, I got a question randomly I'm gonna scroll on YouTube and watch one singular video.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's wild to me
- 58:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_00]: I have a feeling that whatever they're trying to do is going to work.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to see right now, but I think it is going to work when you're talking about friends sending you reals and stuff right for different reals, I have a friend who'd be sending me like 10 reals at a time, like in one day, yeah, in one setting, like he's just like as he's crawling his like, oh, send this send it.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, sometimes I was like, on a roll like that.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_00]: Now, do you feel like you need to react to every single thing, or I have a friend that it got to a point to where we don't even react to the stuff we send each other.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I know he watched it, I don't have to click on each one, be like, ha ha, LOL, damn, that's crazy.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't, I don't, I don't be replying to, but it has to be specific people.
- 59:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I was going to say.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think it depends.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_01]: I have some friends, so far as that I, like, I can't see.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_00]: You'll see.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_01]: Well, now you can take the scene thing away.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which if you didn't know.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_01]: No, you know, you can take the red receipts off of Instagram.
- 59:53[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes I'm not.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_01]: Thankfully, they finally did that.
- 59:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sometimes I open a DM, thinking it's a short DM, but it's a long asked DM, which I always appreciate.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_00]: But you didn't have the time.
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I couldn't, I don't have the time to read that.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_00]: So now, I, but I also don't want people to think that I leave them on red ever.
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_00]: But if it's a paragraph, I always want to read it, but I just can't read it right now because I'm like,
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, yeah, so but I whenever that does happen and I'm thinking you know, you can see the little preview of the DM But then you think it's a short one then it's like a long scroll long as message I would literally like obviously I can't read it But I would just respond to them and say hey
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'll get back to you later.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like I say that because I hate the feeling of people thinking that damn you only left me all the scene and I just gave it all.
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I really wrote this whole thing.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I hate that feeling.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I got your guys okay.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it depends.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like there are some in some people like some of my friends that I react to everything they send me and they use them for me.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_00]: Why do you feel like you need to react?
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know because also like I trust that what they sent me like they sent it for to me for a good reason.
- 1:01:11[SPEAKER_00]: Do you have a person in your life that sends you stuff and you're kind of like you don't worry about Responding because you know that they wouldn't take it a certain way and you guys just kind of have like a mutual understanding like yeah We sent each other 20 reals a day if you get to it.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my brother be sending me like hell of stuff But I feel like you're sending stuff like to everyone
- 1:01:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I say the same video, and not that that matters, but you also just be sending me a random shit that I'm like, I'm like, sometimes I don't even open the video, but like with my friend Brenda, I know that she sends me something, I will probably like, want to actually see it.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes she'll send me something that I've already seen.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_01]: Or you'll sometimes send me a video that I've already seen.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, aha, aha, aha, aha, aha, aha, aha, aha, aha too, you know.
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_00]: When someone sends me a video that I've always seen, or let me ask you this, when I send you something that you already saw, or maybe like someone else, right?
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_00]: Do you respond to it as if you haven't seen it yet?
- 1:02:09[SPEAKER_00]: Or do you just say, I already saw this?
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'll say, haha, I saw this too, because usually it's something funny anyways.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like most of the time, or I'll just say, oh, yeah, I saw this video too.
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_01]: You're lost.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'll have a reaction.
- 1:02:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to be like, Oh, you saw this.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_00]: Let me know if this ever happened to you.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_00]: Someone sends you a video.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_00]: That's, no, let's say you send someone a video that's two minutes long.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I forgot.
- 1:02:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, or like a minute.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's not long.
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_00]: That's not long, right?
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_00]: But it's a minute.
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:02:39[SPEAKER_00]: You send it to them.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_00]: 10 seconds later, they respond with laughing emojis.
- 1:02:47[SPEAKER_00]: The math is not mathing.
- 1:02:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that's ever happened to me.
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not paying attention to the time like this.
- 1:02:51[SPEAKER_00]: No, this, this happened to be earlier with my friends.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_00]: Shout out to you for this thing.
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, but but it didn't only happen with you.
- 1:02:57[SPEAKER_00]: It happened with multiple people before.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'll send you a video that's maybe two or two minutes long, right?
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's like an explanation of something.
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_00]: And they respond.
- 1:03:06[SPEAKER_00]: Too fast, but there's no way that there's seen the whole video because they're responding like 10 seconds later So then I would be like, oh bro, you didn't watch the whole video But that's when there was like, you know, but I would have seen it before Oh, I get that.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's always funny I'll it caught me off guard like both the video.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_00]: You should be on like Minion one right now But you responding as if you watched the whole thing.
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's where I say that's where I say like I also
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_00]: And now it's, uh, it's, yeah, I do the same.
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 1:03:39[SPEAKER_01]: I also, I also just, I, I, I, I locally just hope it doesn't work, you know, I just like long for my Instagram on YouTube.
- 1:03:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I think they're Instagram needs to stop trying to do everything and be everything.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think the long form on Instagram is going to work, but it's going to work for the people who don't want to start from zero subscribers on YouTube, because starting from zero on YouTube, this I encourage everybody to start YouTube, film whatever you want, right?
- 1:04:06[SPEAKER_00]: But that climb, that mountain on with a subscriber count on YouTube is, he's a heavy one.
- 1:04:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, imagine you're going up a mountain with a heavy backpack.
- 1:04:18[SPEAKER_00]: It feels like that.
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_00]: I definitely, yeah, it feels like that so that I get why people are intimidated by starting you to because it's like, damn, like I feel so small in this world.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_00]: So if you already have a platform, you should use long phone, like it makes sense for them.
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like let's say they have like 300k or half a million followers on Instagram.
- 1:04:39[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:04:40[SPEAKER_01]: And then they start posting longer videos on Instagram.
- 1:04:44[SPEAKER_00]: Perfect.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_00]: I would do that.
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_01]: their audience will probably be into it and watch it, and then you know there's no monetizing you know that specific video the way that you would on Instagram, eventually the way that this will develop is like brands will start to be interested in being featured on a long video on Instagram.
- 1:05:12[SPEAKER_01]: But why would a brand one of the not the same way that a brand wants to be featured, and I do a partnership with the YouTuber.
- 1:05:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but that's because it's on YouTube.
- 1:05:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's the platform.
- 1:05:24[SPEAKER_01]: The whole different platform different eyes, right?
- 1:05:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but if it's on Instagram, I mean, you could.
- 1:05:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I can pay you for a short, which is quicker, it's more shareable.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_00]: More people will send it than a long video on Instagram.
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_00]: So if I'm a brand, I would do want to, I would do want to pay someone who makes short form because I know they're going to see it, they're going to share it.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_01]: And they're going to get to the ad part in the video way faster.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_00]: And most people that will see this video would probably watch the full video versus long form on Instagram.
- 1:05:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's already new.
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_00]: How many people is this, how many times it's going to be shared?
- 1:06:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's not.
- 1:06:05[SPEAKER_00]: And it's from the same creator.
- 1:06:06[SPEAKER_00]: So let me pay you just for short
- 1:06:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because your audience is going to see that anyways.
- 1:06:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like long form, it's like, and long form, it would have to be sort of like integrated.
- 1:06:17[SPEAKER_01]: Or it's going to cost the brand hell of money.
- 1:06:19[SPEAKER_01]: And nobody's going to make like a 10 video dedicated, 10 minute dedicated video.
- 1:06:24[SPEAKER_01]: A creator is most likely going to be like doing an integration into a long video.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:06:30[SPEAKER_01]: But then it's like someone has to watch so much of that video.
- 1:06:36[SPEAKER_01]: And since it's so new, like, I think this is going to take some time.
- 1:06:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how it's going to work.
- 1:06:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of skeptical about it, but.
- 1:06:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but yeah, I don't know.
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see.
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see.
- 1:06:54[SPEAKER_01]: I am curious to hear what you guys think.
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_01]: So please let us know down below.
- 1:07:02[SPEAKER_01]: There's so much, I don't know, it's like crazy how much of a world that app has become, you know, like obviously some people use it more than others, some people are creators, some people are just consumers, some people are just not on it or don't care about it that much, but I feel like we just kind of wanted to talk about it from a
- 1:07:28[SPEAKER_01]: you know, creator standpoint and consumer in a way as well and I would love to hear what you guys have to say.
- 1:07:35[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're listening to this on Spotify, please leave a comment directly on this episode and if you're listening on anything else then and you also have Spotify, maybe go leave a comment because I would really love to know.
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_01]: What, um, what you guys are thinking, are you feeling about it, maybe like, if you have any thought or point that we didn't talk about, because they definitely didn't get into like all the things in this episode, but I'm also if you're a creator, how do you feel about it?
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_01]: oh you know it's just something it's also like I don't know I just think it's so easy like on Instagram you could get so easily distracted by the short form stuff let's say you go on Instagram trying to watch like a long video that you saved but then like all of the
- 1:08:37[SPEAKER_01]: other stuff that's on there, their photos, carousels, reels, whatever, they're going to get in the way.
- 1:08:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like something about YouTube just feels so clean and so safe.
- 1:08:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think Instagram would do a, we'll do a good job at separating the timelines.
- 1:08:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's, I think it's going to work.
- 1:08:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's my prediction.
- 1:08:57[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, by summer 2027, it's going to be so good by then.
- 1:09:02[SPEAKER_00]: That's, that's how what I predict.
- 1:09:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I do, I do kind of want that.
- 1:09:06[SPEAKER_00]: Because I like Instagram.
- 1:09:07[SPEAKER_00]: I love Instagram.
- 1:09:09[SPEAKER_00]: I have a pretty healthy relationship with Instagram.
- 1:09:11[SPEAKER_00]: I would say
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I would spend time on Instagram on a specific thing, a specific app, maybe like research purposes, I would do that.
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't, I don't go in the reals tab and just swipe.
- 1:09:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't do that really.
- 1:09:34[SPEAKER_01]: Feel like you're lying.
- 1:09:34[SPEAKER_00]: No, I don't.
- 1:09:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I know what I do.
- 1:09:39[SPEAKER_00]: You, on the other hand, you are doing scroller.
- 1:09:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think I'm a straight, doomed scroller.
- 1:09:44[SPEAKER_00]: Someone who responded on my broadcast channel, she was like, I just think that Instagram is for doing schooling.
- 1:09:51[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, I'm free.
- 1:09:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, okay guys.
- 1:09:56[SPEAKER_01]: I just think like it's gonna be very hard for people to reprogram.
- 1:10:00[SPEAKER_01]: Especially since YouTube has existed before Instagram.
- 1:10:03[SPEAKER_00]: What does that have to do with anything?
- 1:10:05[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like reprogramming the way someone's relationship towards this app is, no, this app is going to be like people's relationship with Instagram is a very specific one and people's relationship with you to be a very specific one and with Facebook and with TikTok even the fact that look at it, even the fact that Instagram and TikTok are like almost the exact same app at this point, not at all.
- 1:10:33[SPEAKER_00]: I got it.
- 1:10:34[SPEAKER_00]: I got it.
- 1:10:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're not a TikTok person, but I'm saying like they both have short videos.
- 1:10:39[SPEAKER_01]: They both, you can technically post carousels on both.
- 1:10:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know how to message someone on Instagram on TikTok.
- 1:10:45[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, just because you don't have a send a DM to someone on TikTok.
- 1:10:48[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 1:10:49[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that's not the same.
- 1:10:50[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't use it.
- 1:10:52[SPEAKER_01]: It is for some people.
- 1:10:54[SPEAKER_01]: You just don't have that relationship with it.
- 1:10:56[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:10:57[SPEAKER_01]: There's some people that are more on TikTok and never on Instagram.
- 1:11:01[SPEAKER_01]: Just crazy to think about.
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_01]: For us because we're so like on Instagram and I just post stuff on TikTok.
- 1:11:09[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm saying all that to say that like, I just don't, I just don't see it working.
- 1:11:17[SPEAKER_00]: Okay cool you heard what I said Let's see what happens in like six months from now.
- 1:11:21[SPEAKER_00]: Okay cool.
