Is it 'å hjelpe'? Like 'to help'? Lucas: Exactly, Luna. Å hjelpe. To help. It's a core verb. Let's start slow. Repeat after me: å hjelpe. Luna: Å hjelpe. Lucas: Great. Now in present tense: jeg hjelper. I help. Say it with me: jeg hjelper. Luna: Jeg hjelper. Lucas: Perfect. And the question form: hjelper du? Do you help? Hjelper du? Luna: Hjelper du? Lucas: Good. Now let's make a full sentence. 'Can you help me?' in Norwegian is 'Kan du hjelpe meg?' Listen: kan du hjelpe meg. Luna: Kan du hjelpe meg? Lucas: Yes, kan du hjelpe meg. Very useful at the store or when you're lost. And if someone asks you, you can say 'jeg hjelper deg' — I help you. Jeg hjelper deg. Luna: Jeg hjelper deg. That's nice. So if a friend asks for help, I can say that. Lucas: Exactly. And after they help you, you say 'takk for hjelpen' — thanks for the help. Takk for hjelpen. Luna: Takk for hjelpen. I like that. It's polite. Lucas: Let's practice a little dialogue. I'll be you asking for help. Say: Kan du hjelpe meg? Luna: Kan du hjelpe meg? Lucas: I answer: Ja, jeg hjelper deg. Now you say: Takk for hjelpen. Luna: Takk for hjelpen. Lucas: Perfect. So the whole exchange is: Kan du hjelpe meg? — Ja, jeg hjelper deg. — Takk for hjelpen. Luna: That's a great little script. I can imagine using that at the tourist office or something. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's do a quick review. The verb is: å hjelpe. Present tense: jeg hjelper. Question: hjelper du?
