- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, February 13th.
- 0:11Words that give life. Have you ever had a moment where
- 0:15just one sentence changed everything for you?
- 0:18Maybe it was a simple I believe in you when you felt like
- 0:21quitting, or a kind word that met you right in the middle of a
- 0:24hard day. And on the flip side, maybe
- 0:28you've also felt how one careless or harsh comment can
- 0:30sit in your heart far longer than it should.
- 0:33Words are never just words. They carry weight, they carry
- 0:36direction, they carry life or loss.
- 0:41Proverbs chapter 10, verses 20 to 21 says the tongue of the
- 0:45righteous is choice. Silver, the lips of the
- 0:47righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense.
- 0:51That's such a powerful image choice.
- 0:54Silver is valuable, refined, and intentional.
- 0:57God is saying that when your heart is aligned with Him, your
- 0:59words become something precious. They don't just sound nice, they
- 1:03nourish. They strengthen.
- 1:06They feed people who are hungry for hope, truth, and
- 1:09encouragement. Then we see this truth unfolding
- 1:12in Acts chapter 13. Paul and Barnabas face
- 1:16resistance, misunderstanding, and rejection as they preach the
- 1:19gospel. Not everyone wants to hear what
- 1:22they have to say. But Acts chapter 13, verse 24
- 1:26tells us something incredible. The Word of God increased and
- 1:29multiplied. Opposition didn't stop it.
- 1:32Criticism didn't silence it. God's Word kept growing,
- 1:37spreading, and reaching new hearts.
- 1:39And what was the result? Acts chapter 13, verse 52 says
- 1:43the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
- 1:46Notice that. Not bitterness, not exhaustion,
- 1:50Joy. When words are rooted in God's
- 1:52truth and empowered by His Spirit, they don't drain life.
- 1:56They produce it. They create joy even in
- 1:58difficult circumstances. This is such an important
- 2:02reminder for us today. We use words constantly in
- 2:05conversations, in messages online, at home, at school, at
- 2:09work. And every time we speak, we're
- 2:13either feeding something or tearing something down.
- 2:16Words aligned with God bring clarity instead of confusion,
- 2:19hope instead of fear, healing instead of harm.
- 2:23You don't have to be a preacher to give life with your words.
- 2:26A sincere apology, a gentle correction, a scripture shared
- 2:30at the right moment, a prayer spoken over someone who's
- 2:32struggling. These are the ways God's Word
- 2:36multiplies through ordinary people.
- 2:38When you let the Holy Spirit shape your heart, your words
- 2:41begin to carry more than your opinion.
- 2:43They carry God's life. The world is full of noise,
- 2:47criticism, and empty talk. But God invites you to be
- 2:51different, to speak with intention, to let your words
- 2:54reflect His truth, to be someone whose lips feed many, whose
- 2:58voice brings joy, and whose life points others toward Jesus.
- 3:02Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for
- 3:05reminding me that my words matter more than I realize.
- 3:09Shake my heart so that what comes out of my mouth reflects
- 3:11Your truth and love. Help me to speak life,
- 3:15encouragement and wisdom to the people around me.
- 3:18Fill me with the Holy Spirit so my words and my actions bring
- 3:22joy, hope and nourishment to others.
- 3:25Use my voice to point people to Jesus and to build what lasts in
- 3:29Jesus name, Amen. What if the way you pray changed
- 3:33because you truly knew who God is?

- 4:53Proverbs chapter 10 verses 20 to 21 World English Bible The
- 4:58tongue of the righteous is like choice silver the heart of the
- 5:01wicked is of little worth the lips of the righteous feed many,
- 5:05but the foolish die for lack of understanding.
- 5:07Acts chapter 13 World English Bible Now in the assembly that
- 5:12was at Antioch, there were some prophets and teachers, Barnabas,
- 5:15Simeon, who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene Manning, the
- 5:19foster brother of Herod the Tetrarch, and Saul as they serve
- 5:22the Lord and fasted the Holy Spirit said, Separate Barnabas
- 5:26and Saul for me for the work to which I have called them.
- 5:29Then when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on
- 5:32them, they sent them away. So being sent out by the Holy
- 5:35Spirit, they went down to Solutia.
- 5:38From there they sailed to Cyprus.
- 5:40When they were at Salamis they proclaimed God's word in the
- 5:43Jewish synagogues. They also had John as their
- 5:46attendant. When they had gone through the
- 5:47island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false
- 5:51prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar Jesus, who was with the
- 5:55proconsul Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding.
- 5:58This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word
- 6:02of God. But Elamas the sorcerer, for so
- 6:05is his name by interpretation, withstood them, seeking to turn
- 6:09the proconsul away from the faith.
- 6:11But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy
- 6:13Spirit, fastened his eyes on him and said, You son of the devil,
- 6:18full of all deceit and all cunning, you enemy of all
- 6:21righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways
- 6:24of the Lord? Now behold, the hand of the Lord
- 6:27is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for
- 6:30season. Immediately a mist and darkness
- 6:32fell on him. He went around seeking someone
- 6:35to lead him by the hand. Then the proconsul, when he saw
- 6:38what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of
- 6:41the Lord. Now Paul and his company set
- 6:44sail from Paphos and came to Purga in Pamphylia.
- 6:47John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.
- 6:50But they, passing on from Purga, came to Antioch of Pasidia.
- 6:54They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down.
- 6:57After the reading of the law and the prophets.
- 7:00The rulers of the synagogue sent to them saying, Brothers, if you
- 7:03have any word of exhortation for the people, speak.
- 7:06Paul stood up and gesturing with his hand said, Men of Israel,
- 7:10and you who fear God, listen. The God of this people chose our
- 7:13fathers and exalted the people when they stayed as aliens in
- 7:17the land of Egypt. And with an uplifted arm he led
- 7:20them out of it. For a period of about 40 years
- 7:23he put up with them in the wilderness.
- 7:25When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan,
- 7:28he gave them their land for an inheritance.
- 7:30For about 450 years after these things he gave them judges until
- 7:35Samuel the prophet. Afterward they asked for a king,
- 7:39and God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe
- 7:42of Benjamin, for 40 years. When he had removed him, he
- 7:45raised up David to be their king, to whom he also testified.
- 7:49I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who
- 7:53will do all my will. From this man's offspring God
- 7:56has brought salvation to Israel according to His promise before
- 8:00His coming. When John had first preached the
- 8:02baptism of repentance to Israel, as John was fulfilling his
- 8:05course, he said, What do you suppose that I am?
- 8:08I am not He, but behold, one comes after me, the sandals of
- 8:12whose feet I am not worthy to untie.
- 8:15Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you
- 8:18who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to you.
- 8:22For those who dwell in Jerusalem.
- 8:24And their rulers, because they didn't know Him, nor the voices
- 8:27of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by
- 8:31condemning Him. Though they found no cause for
- 8:33death, they still asked Pillate to have him killed.
- 8:36When they had fulfilled all things that were written about
- 8:39Him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.
- 8:42But God raised him from the dead, and he was seen for many
- 8:45days by those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem,
- 8:49who are His witnesses to the people.
- 8:51We bring you good news of the promise made to the Father's
- 8:54that God has fulfilled this to us, their children.
- 8:57In that He raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second
- 9:01Psalm. You are my Son.
- 9:03Today I have become your Father. Concerning that He raised him up
- 9:06from the dead. Now no more to return to
- 9:08corruption. He has spoken.
- 9:09Thus. I will give you the holy and
- 9:11sure blessings of David. Therefore he says also in
- 9:14another Psalm, You will not allow your holy one to see
- 9:16decay. For David, after he had in his
- 9:19own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, was
- 9:23laid with his Father's, and saw decay.
- 9:25But he whom God raised up saw no decay.
- 9:28Be it known to you, therefore, brothers, that through this man
- 9:31is proclaimed to you remission of sins, and by him everyone who
- 9:35believes is justified from all things from which you could not
- 9:38be justified by the law of Moses.
- 9:41But we're therefore lest that come on you which is spoken in
- 9:43the prophets, behold, you scoffers, wonder and perish.
- 9:47For I work a work in your days, a work which you will in no way
- 9:50believe, if one declares it to you.
- 9:53So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged
- 9:56that these words might be preached to them the next
- 9:58Sabbath. Now when the synagogue broke up,
- 10:01many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul
- 10:04and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in
- 10:08the grace of God. The next Sabbath almost the
- 10:11whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.
- 10:14But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled
- 10:17with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by
- 10:20Paul and blasphemed. Paul and Barnabas spoke out
- 10:23boldly, and said it was necessary that God's Word should
- 10:27be spoken to you first, since indeed you thrust it from
- 10:30yourselves, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life.
- 10:33Behold, we turn to the Gentiles, for so has the Lord commanded
- 10:37us, saying, I have set you as a light for the Gentiles, that you
- 10:41should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.
- 10:44As the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the Word
- 10:48of God. As many as were appointed to
- 10:50eternal life believed the Lord's word was spread abroad
- 10:54throughout all the region. But the Jews stirred up the
- 10:57devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city and
- 11:00stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas and threw them
- 11:04out of their borders. But they shook off the dust of
- 11:06their feet against them and came to Iconium.
- 11:09The disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
