February 13 - Words That Carry the Gospel · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, February 13th.
• 0:11
Words that give life. Have you ever had a moment where
• 0:15
just one sentence changed everything for you?
• 0:18
Maybe it was a simple I believe in you when you felt like
• 0:21
quitting, or a kind word that met you right in the middle of a
• 0:24
hard day. And on the flip side, maybe
• 0:28
you've also felt how one careless or harsh comment can
• 0:30
sit in your heart far longer than it should.
• 0:33
Words are never just words. They carry weight, they carry
• 0:36
direction, they carry life or loss.
• 0:41
Proverbs chapter 10, verses 20 to 21 says the tongue of the
• 0:45
righteous is choice. Silver, the lips of the
• 0:47
righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense.
• 0:51
That's such a powerful image choice.
• 0:54
Silver is valuable, refined, and intentional.
• 0:57
God is saying that when your heart is aligned with Him, your
• 0:59
words become something precious. They don't just sound nice, they
• 1:03
  nourish. They strengthen.
• 1:06
They feed people who are hungry for hope, truth, and
• 1:09
encouragement. Then we see this truth unfolding
• 1:12
in Acts chapter 13. Paul and Barnabas face
• 1:16
resistance, misunderstanding, and rejection as they preach the
• 1:19
gospel. Not everyone wants to hear what
• 1:22
they have to say. But Acts chapter 13, verse 24
• 1:26
tells us something incredible. The Word of God increased and
• 1:29
  multiplied. Opposition didn't stop it.
• 1:32
Criticism didn't silence it. God's Word kept growing,
• 1:37
  spreading, and reaching new hearts.
• 1:39
And what was the result? Acts chapter 13, verse 52 says
• 1:43
the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
• 1:46
Notice that. Not bitterness, not exhaustion,
• 1:50
Joy. When words are rooted in God's
• 1:52
truth and empowered by His Spirit, they don't drain life.
• 1:56
They produce it. They create joy even in
• 1:58
difficult circumstances. This is such an important
• 2:02
reminder for us today. We use words constantly in
• 2:05
conversations, in messages online, at home, at school, at
• 2:09
work. And every time we speak, we're
• 2:13
either feeding something or tearing something down.
• 2:16
Words aligned with God bring clarity instead of confusion,
• 2:19
hope instead of fear, healing instead of harm.
• 2:23
You don't have to be a preacher to give life with your words.
• 2:26
A sincere apology, a gentle correction, a scripture shared
• 2:30
at the right moment, a prayer spoken over someone who's
• 2:32
struggling. These are the ways God's Word
• 2:36
  multiplies through ordinary people.
• 2:38
When you let the Holy Spirit shape your heart, your words
• 2:41
begin to carry more than your opinion.
• 2:43
They carry God's life. The world is full of noise,
• 2:47
criticism, and empty talk. But God invites you to be
• 2:51
different, to speak with intention, to let your words
• 2:54
reflect His truth, to be someone whose lips feed many, whose
• 2:58
voice brings joy, and whose life points others toward Jesus.
• 3:02
Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for
• 3:05
reminding me that my words matter more than I realize.
• 3:09
Shake my heart so that what comes out of my mouth reflects
• 3:11
Your truth and love. Help me to speak life,
• 3:15
encouragement and wisdom to the people around me.
• 3:18
Fill me with the Holy Spirit so my words and my actions bring
• 3:22
joy, hope and nourishment to others.
• 3:25
Use my voice to point people to Jesus and to build what lasts in
• 3:29
Jesus name, Amen. What if the way you pray changed
• 3:33
because you truly knew who God is?

Proverbs chapter 10 verses 20 to 21 World English Bible The
• 4:58
tongue of the righteous is like choice silver the heart of the
• 5:01
wicked is of little worth the lips of the righteous feed many,
• 5:05
but the foolish die for lack of understanding.
• 5:07
Acts chapter 13 World English Bible Now in the assembly that
• 5:12
was at Antioch, there were some prophets and teachers, Barnabas,
• 5:15
Simeon, who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene Manning, the
• 5:19
foster brother of Herod the Tetrarch, and Saul as they serve
• 5:22
the Lord and fasted the Holy Spirit said, Separate Barnabas
• 5:26
and Saul for me for the work to which I have called them.
• 5:29
Then when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on
• 5:32
them, they sent them away. So being sent out by the Holy
• 5:35
Spirit, they went down to Solutia.
• 5:38
From there they sailed to Cyprus.
• 5:40
When they were at Salamis they proclaimed God's word in the
• 5:43
Jewish synagogues. They also had John as their
• 5:46
attendant. When they had gone through the
• 5:47
island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false
• 5:51
prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar Jesus, who was with the
• 5:55
proconsul Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding.
• 5:58
This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word
• 6:02
of God. But Elamas the sorcerer, for so
• 6:05
is his name by interpretation, withstood them, seeking to turn
• 6:09
the proconsul away from the faith.
• 6:11
But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy
• 6:13
Spirit, fastened his eyes on him and said, You son of the devil,
• 6:18
full of all deceit and all cunning, you enemy of all
• 6:21
righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways
• 6:24
of the Lord? Now behold, the hand of the Lord
• 6:27
is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for
• 6:30
season. Immediately a mist and darkness
• 6:32
fell on him. He went around seeking someone
• 6:35
to lead him by the hand. Then the proconsul, when he saw
• 6:38
what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of
• 6:41
the Lord. Now Paul and his company set
• 6:44
sail from Paphos and came to Purga in Pamphylia.
• 6:47
John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.
• 6:50
But they, passing on from Purga, came to Antioch of Pasidia.
• 6:54
They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down.
• 6:57
After the reading of the law and the prophets.
• 7:00
The rulers of the synagogue sent to them saying, Brothers, if you
• 7:03
have any word of exhortation for the people, speak.
• 7:06
Paul stood up and gesturing with his hand said, Men of Israel,
• 7:10
and you who fear God, listen. The God of this people chose our
• 7:13
fathers and exalted the people when they stayed as aliens in
• 7:17
the land of Egypt. And with an uplifted arm he led
• 7:20
them out of it. For a period of about 40 years
• 7:23
he put up with them in the wilderness.
• 7:25
When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan,
• 7:28
he gave them their land for an inheritance.
• 7:30
For about 450 years after these things he gave them judges until
• 7:35
Samuel the prophet. Afterward they asked for a king,
• 7:39
and God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe
• 7:42
of Benjamin, for 40 years. When he had removed him, he
• 7:45
raised up David to be their king, to whom he also testified.
• 7:49
I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who
• 7:53
will do all my will. From this man's offspring God
• 7:56
has brought salvation to Israel according to His promise before
• 8:00
His coming. When John had first preached the
• 8:02
baptism of repentance to Israel, as John was fulfilling his
• 8:05
course, he said, What do you suppose that I am?
• 8:08
I am not He, but behold, one comes after me, the sandals of
• 8:12
whose feet I am not worthy to untie.
• 8:15
Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you
• 8:18
who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to you.
• 8:22
For those who dwell in Jerusalem.
• 8:24
And their rulers, because they didn't know Him, nor the voices
• 8:27
of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by
• 8:31
condemning Him. Though they found no cause for
• 8:33
death, they still asked Pillate to have him killed.
• 8:36
When they had fulfilled all things that were written about
• 8:39
Him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.
• 8:42
But God raised him from the dead, and he was seen for many
• 8:45
days by those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem,
• 8:49
who are His witnesses to the people.
• 8:51
We bring you good news of the promise made to the Father's
• 8:54
that God has fulfilled this to us, their children.
• 8:57
In that He raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second
• 9:01
  Psalm. You are my Son.
• 9:03
Today I have become your Father. Concerning that He raised him up
• 9:06
from the dead. Now no more to return to
• 9:08
  corruption. He has spoken.
• 9:09
Thus. I will give you the holy and
• 9:11
sure blessings of David. Therefore he says also in
• 9:14
another Psalm, You will not allow your holy one to see
• 9:16
decay. For David, after he had in his
• 9:19
own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, was
• 9:23
laid with his Father's, and saw decay.
• 9:25
But he whom God raised up saw no decay.
• 9:28
Be it known to you, therefore, brothers, that through this man
• 9:31
is proclaimed to you remission of sins, and by him everyone who
• 9:35
believes is justified from all things from which you could not
• 9:38
be justified by the law of Moses.
• 9:41
But we're therefore lest that come on you which is spoken in
• 9:43
the prophets, behold, you scoffers, wonder and perish.
• 9:47
For I work a work in your days, a work which you will in no way
• 9:50
believe, if one declares it to you.
• 9:53
So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged
• 9:56
that these words might be preached to them the next
• 9:58
Sabbath. Now when the synagogue broke up,
• 10:01
many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul
• 10:04
and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in
• 10:08
the grace of God. The next Sabbath almost the
• 10:11
whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.
• 10:14
But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled
• 10:17
with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by
• 10:20
Paul and blasphemed. Paul and Barnabas spoke out
• 10:23
boldly, and said it was necessary that God's Word should
• 10:27
be spoken to you first, since indeed you thrust it from
• 10:30
yourselves, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life.
• 10:33
Behold, we turn to the Gentiles, for so has the Lord commanded
• 10:37
us, saying, I have set you as a light for the Gentiles, that you
• 10:41
should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.
• 10:44
As the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the Word
• 10:48
of God. As many as were appointed to
• 10:50
eternal life believed the Lord's word was spread abroad
• 10:54
throughout all the region. But the Jews stirred up the
• 10:57
devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city and
• 11:00
stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas and threw them
• 11:04
out of their borders. But they shook off the dust of
• 11:06
their feet against them and came to Iconium.
• 11:09
The disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
