- 0:39SPEAKER_03: Hey guys, just uh Steven here.
- 0:41SPEAKER_03: Uh we're gonna start off this pod with some uh breaking news uh that we just got here while I'm editing.
- 0:47SPEAKER_03: Umari Burnett is leaving the Texas Tech basketball program.
- 0:51SPEAKER_03: Um obviously former five-star guy, highest-rated basketball recruit in tech history, uh, has decided to opt out of the season, and uh it looks like he's either going to transfer or put his name train for the NBA draft.
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: Uh this sucks.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: This is this is uh uh tough news to hear.
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: Obviously, uh it's for the program, you know, you start to wonder this is now the second transfer to leave since the season started.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: Uh or s just second player in general, uh Joel Intabway being the first and then Namari Burnett being the second now.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: Um and and I guess for most tech fans and me in particular, uh your first thought is, you know, why?
- 1:33SPEAKER_03: You know, because you're gonna be you think you're gonna be the guy, it may take a year or two, but you're gonna be the guy here soon.
- 1:41SPEAKER_03: Um and uh to j to opt out and and we don't know the real reason why he's leaving yet.
- 1:47SPEAKER_03: Uh it's uh the the athletic article said it was for personal reasons, but uh you know, if he's still looking to play basketball, it's looking like he just wasn't happy with his current situation at Texas Tech.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: And uh I I hate to say I don't blame him, but I I don't blame him because he wasn't getting the minutes that he probably felt he deserved.
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: Um and uh whether that's right or wrong, uh it that's up in the air, but uh and I and we'll never know because he's leaving the program.
- 2:13SPEAKER_03: But uh for this guy to leave right here in in the middle of the season, uh middle of Big 12 play, it's it's it's a little mind-boggling.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: Uh obviously.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: Uh well, and not so obviously, I'm not trying I'm you know, I'm trying to read this guy's mind here, but uh uh maybe he just doesn't feel like he uh has uh the role that he deserves on this team and he can find something better elsewhere, or he thinks he's just already ready for the NBA, which uh uh confusing because he hasn't really shown what he needs to in his limited minutes.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: Uh you think uh you know you want the guy I I want the guy to succeed wherever he goes.
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: Um he chose us over a lot of good schools, he had a lot of options, and he decided, including the NBA G League, uh, that he chose Texas Tech over.
- 3:01SPEAKER_03: And um when when Mac kind of uh I I think he committed before Mac committed, uh well obviously he committed before Mac committed because he's a high school guy, but um Mac coming into the program I think ate up a lot of what Burnett's 2B minutes were gonna be.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: Um for me personally, preseason I was thinking Burnett was a for sure starter.
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: I was I was confused as to why he wasn't starting.
- 3:25SPEAKER_03: Uh, but that's what comes sometimes uh when you have a lot of talent in your roster and a lot of uh a lot of guys, you know, there's only so many minutes you can put on the floor.
- 3:34SPEAKER_03: And uh Namari looked good at times, and he also looked really young and really raw at times, and he just never could break his way into the system.
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: And uh that's a bigger question, I guess, to to ask is uh with Beard's system and how we run things uh uh from a defensive, you know, first standpoint, and we don't you know we're not one of the higher scoring teams in in the Big 12 or in college basketball.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: We focus a lot on our defense, and you wonder guys aren't gonna get the stats they're gonna get at other programs.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, you could very easily go to a faster pace, more offensive-oriented system and and get your you know, twelve twelve to twenty points a game, uh and you put up stats, and I I I I really wonder if Namari is thinking, you know, he goes to a different program, he starts immediately, he gets thirty minutes a game, and he you know, but with with Chris Beard and how he runs his team, uh you just you just don't.
- 4:33SPEAKER_03: You just you have to work your way into your minutes.
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: You you and and that's what I like about his system, but uh you know, losing these guys stinks because other recruits are gonna see this and they're gonna and they're gonna wonder, hey, what what's going on with Texas Tech basketball basketball right now?
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: I mean two tr guys that have committed to the program and are now leaving in the middle of the season.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: And I I think we're seeing an increase in this just in general.
- 5:00SPEAKER_03: The the transfer portal's getting bigger and bigger every year.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: Uh guys are much more quick to make that decision.
- 5:06SPEAKER_03: Uh you have to wonder who's in these guys' ears telling them what to do.
- 5:11SPEAKER_03: Um but you know, we saw it with West Virginia and Oscar Shibuy uh you know g leaving the program mid-season, and he was a starter.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, he was a guy getting minutes, and uh it's just it's just tough.
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: It just sucks as a Texas Tech basketball fan, as a uh as a college basketball fan, you and and really as an Amari fan.
- 5:33SPEAKER_03: I was I was a fan of Amari uh uh ever since his name started popping up in Texas Tech uh uh rumor boards and that kind of stuff, and um it just it just stinks to see, you know.
- 5:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's just tough.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: Um Texas Tech will move on from this.
- 5:50SPEAKER_03: Um you know, from from their side of things, you'll probably see an increased minutes from uh a guy like Clarence Nedoni, who Chris Beard raves about uh his work ethic and uh just hasn't been able to really break his way into the rotation.
- 6:03SPEAKER_03: So you may see some increased minutes for him.
- 6:05SPEAKER_03: Avery Benson, you know, a guy who's always good, hustle guy, uh guard off the bench.
- 6:10SPEAKER_03: Uh maybe Chabuzo Agbo, maybe uh uh maybe just the maybe just for the main guards, you know, like Mac McClung and and um uh Jamarius Burton may may just increase their minutes there.
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: So um uh, you know, gonna be tough to replace Namari's minutes though.
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: You know, wish wish namari the best.
- 6:29SPEAKER_03: Um but this sucks for the program right now.
- 6:32SPEAKER_03: Hopefully we'll see how we respond in our uh game against Iowa State and uh our upcoming games against uh Texas and Baylor, but obviously this hurts our depth.
- 6:41SPEAKER_03: The uh the guards obviously are hurting now, and namari's a a huge talent to lose, and this sucks.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: And uh, but we'll move on from it and uh we'll see how the team responds against Iowa State.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: So uh sorry for the unfortunate news to start off the pod, but uh you know, with the breaking news, uh we we had to say something.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: So um, well, we're gonna start off with the with what we originally recorded on Wednesday.
- 7:03SPEAKER_03: So uh here's that for you.
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: Welcome in everybody to the Talk and Tech Podcast.
- 7:09SPEAKER_03: My name is Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: Tristan, how are you doing on this lovely, what is it, Wednesday?
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: Yes, it is.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: It's a little uh later of a day that we are recording.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: We'll explain that in a moment.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: But you know, uh, I'm I'm a little upset because of uh because of the games and because this is my first week back to work.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: Uh so back to the grind.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: Unfortunately, uh real life still exists.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: But how are you doing?
- 7:38SPEAKER_03: I'm doing well, man.
- 7:39SPEAKER_03: I'm doing well despite uh what my teams are doing to me.
- 7:43SPEAKER_03: Uh, but you know, on the bright side, tech did just come off of a win, and the Spurs just come out came off of a good win against the Clippers, too.
- 7:51SPEAKER_03: But to what you said originally, we are gonna start recording a little later on in the week because of basketball season.
- 7:58SPEAKER_03: Originally, we tried to get the episodes out so you have a few days before the football game to listen to it.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: Uh, we still have basketball going on on Saturdays, but we can put it out a little later in the week.
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're gonna put it out after the second game, the midweek game of every of every basketball game this week.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: So if the game's on a Wednesday, we'll probably record on a Thursday so we can get you know our reactions and our previews for the upcoming games as well.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: All right, so uh enough administration announcements.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: Let's get right to it then.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: What are we starting with?
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: I wanted to start with Cliff Kingsbury because my man didn't make the playoffs.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: Um, there's he ended poorly on the season, and I think a lot of Cliff apologists um are real are feeling it now because it was such a reminder of when he was at tech these last couple games for the Cardinals.
- 8:50SPEAKER_03: He lost to the 49ers who had about nine players on injured reserve.
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: Uh, and then he also lost to the Rams who who did not have Jared Goff and was starting some other guy, don't even know his name, but to end the season off and he didn't end up making the playoffs, and that was just so Cliff to me.
- 9:09SPEAKER_03: Uh, I I like Cliff.
- 9:11SPEAKER_03: Um, and even I still think he's gonna be a pretty good coach in the NFL.
- 9:16SPEAKER_03: But if that didn't remind you of why Cliff Kingsbury is no longer a tech, I don't know what will.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: It's funny that you bring that up because uh during the week, Ace I saw a tweet.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry that I'm taking this, I can't remember who tweeted this.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: Probably hey rival school.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: Um, they tweeted that even with the quarterback, unbelievable quarterback talent this man has had, he has literally never won more than eight games ever.
- 9:44SPEAKER_02: So I was just like, oh, that brings back so much pain.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: It's so true.
- 9:49SPEAKER_02: He can never get over that hump.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: So it's it's I don't, I'm not surprised, but it's it kind of seems like he's leaning on his star quarterback, and unfortunately, that's not the entire game, Cliff.
- 9:59SPEAKER_03: So some some blood, some bad play calling.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: I know the big meme for the last game was he ran it up the middle on third and 18, uh in a game that you need to win to make the playoffs against an injured Rams team.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: Uh, he also punted twice at the end of the game in a two-score game.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: Flash uh when when you need to win the game to make the playoffs.
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: Uh and so he just kind of gave it in, gave in there, and that was uh disappointing to see as a uh as a fan uh of Cliff, but also not surprising in the least bit.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: I I get what you're what you're trying to do.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: You know, it's it's it's true.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: You're trying to remind yourself that letting him go was the right thing to do.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: It was, it still was.
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: No, a complete no arguments from your co-host here.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying, like, a lot of a lot of tech fans were really like, we traded the uh that for Matt Wells, which I get as well, but at the same time, it's like y'all think it would be any better.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: I mean, even if it was even yeah, even if it was a little better, it wouldn't be that much better than what happened last season.
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: So you you gotta cut bait and move on, and that's just what we needed to do.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: And we've said this a billion times.
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: We would be upset no matter who was our coach, to be honest with you, after last season.
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: But whether it was Cliff or Matt Wells, whoever, but uh I don't know.
- 11:20SPEAKER_03: I I think that's enough.
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: I don't want to crap on Cliff too much because I still like the guy and still hope he succeeds.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: Absolutely too.
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: You know, just tough tough wait for the Cardinals season to end.
- 11:30SPEAKER_03: Uh, we'll see what he does next year.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: We can take it 50-50 because when he's bad, it's like, uh, see, this is why we we couldn't get 50.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: If he does really well, it's like, yeah, tackle him, let's go.
- 11:39SPEAKER_03: However, it fits the narrative.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: We love that.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: Um, also, we should mention Anthony Lynn got fired uh from the Chargers, tough deal.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: And you could tell because there wasn't like a lot of hate going toward usually it's like, oh, thank God we finally fired this coach, but you could tell that the Charger fans really liked him still, and that you know, his players had a lot of love for him, and and uh the organization had a lot of love for him, and he's such a good guy, he'll get another coaching job here uh soon, but it was about time to cut ties.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: Great to see him.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: We're we're gonna see him land on his feet.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: The guy's too good at a coach and too good of a dude.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: So uh well loved by his players.
- 12:18SPEAKER_03: Maybe we'll see him coaching tech next year, maybe.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: Who knows?
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: Wouldn't it be a pose?
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: Uh but I know I'm sure plenty of fans would be at this point too, though, because of his his failure in the NFL.
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: But I'm gonna be like, let's give it a shot.
- 12:33SPEAKER_03: Well, we'll see.
- 12:34SPEAKER_03: We'll see.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: Go Matt Wells.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: Go Matt Wells.
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: We're still on the Matt Wells train.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: Come on, Matt.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: So together.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: Let's please win six wins.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 12:44SPEAKER_03: All right, but next bit next bit of news tech baseball, ranked number three preseason by perfect game, and number four by collegiate baseball.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: Tristan, I don't know about you, but I hate that there are so many different polls for college baseball.
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: I hate it.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: That is the most confusing thing to look at.
- 13:02SPEAKER_02: You just don't know what source you're supposed to put forth as the primary one since there's so many.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: But you know what?
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: If they put us in the top five in all of them, I there's no there's no conflict.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: We'll just say top five, baby.
- 13:15SPEAKER_03: So it's just why can't there just be AP?
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: Why do they have to be different?
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: Why didn't like why can't it just be they do one, they do AP and coaches poll in?
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: I don't know if they do coaches poll in basketball, but they do coaches poll in football.
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, why have there's like six different polls in baseball that are that are like actually recognized, right?
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: Because even in college football, there's still other rankings, like I think ESPN does their own and and stuff like that, but it's not the of course the only one that people look at is the AP until the playoff one.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: So it's confusing.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: College baseball is a little different than the rest.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: Uh, but hey, top five is top five.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: Timothy Tadlock is taking us to Omaha, also known as the Golden Land.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: So we're we're gonna get there, we're gonna win some dubs.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we're going whether we're ranked number three, number four, we're gonna go out and you know, keep pitching, try to hit the ball over the fence.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: Well, Josh is hitting Josh is hidden well, put it on the board.
- 14:15SPEAKER_03: All right, so tech baseball out here killing it.
- 14:19SPEAKER_03: But here into we had some up and downs with tech basketball this week.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: Um, losing to Oklahoma State 82 to 77 NOT in Lubbock, uh, tough deal.
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: And then we also uh managed to get a uh decent win against Kansas State 82 to 71.
- 14:39SPEAKER_03: But let's talk about Oklahoma State.
- 14:41SPEAKER_03: You did not get to watch this game because you were having a having a ball at your buddy's wedding.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: Yes, I was uh celebrating my good buddy Zach's wedding.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: It was a beautiful wedding, and they just finished up their little mini moon, and he's about to move over to Virginia.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: Congrats to the lovely couple, it was a blast, and I was honored to be a part of it.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: Anywho, they didn't win on my birthday.
- 15:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they didn't.
- 15:02SPEAKER_03: They really messed you over on your birthday.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: Tough stuff out here.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: Um my viewpoint, our offense cannot seem to figure it out, and it's concerning because now I think we're into our what 10th game.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: We're getting into our 11th, 12th game of the year, and it's still looking pretty, pretty rusty out there.
- 15:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, Beard's having a tough time figuring out who plays well with each other.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: Uh, he's tried out a bunch of different starting lineups now.
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: He's getting he's taking Shannon off the bench, he's taking Edwards off the bench, he's taking Jamarius off the bench, he's doing all this sort of stuff, and it it just didn't flow well the entire game against Oklahoma State.
- 15:42SPEAKER_03: Um, and then we really blew it at the end.
- 15:44SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, you talk about questionable calls, and everybody was all up in arms about the refereeing uh at the end of that game, which there were some bad calls, granted.
- 15:52SPEAKER_03: I mean, Cade Cunningham on that three-pointer that they call the foul to eventually tie the game, not a good call.
- 15:58SPEAKER_03: They also called a lane violation on a free throw, which they never do uh down the stretch, and they called that, but uh anyway, we messed up a lot of it, you know.
- 16:09SPEAKER_03: Just just we can't figure it out down the stretch, and and I really don't know why.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's really concerning me because I thought at this point we'd have it together because like uh you know, I mean every time we had a concerning game where the offense was really disappointing against some like lower tier opponents, and and U of H was like a big laring one, was uh where when when is it gonna when is it gonna go together?
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: Like I thought it was gonna be like it just took a few games sort of deal for the team to get together and meld, but it just hasn't happened yet.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: And it's really concerning because we are we're we're what getting to what a quarter through conference play.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: Oh, I mean, yeah, yeah.
- 16:49SPEAKER_02: If we want a shot at that trope Big 12 trophy, which is still in the in the realm of possibility, or even looking beyond that, getting a good seed in the in the NCAA tournament, the the offense needs to get going.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: The defense is clearly there, but the offense just for some reason isn't there yet, which is really concerning.
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
- 17:08SPEAKER_03: Uh down the stretch, uh Kyler Edwards made a big mistake and a regulation, called for the moving screen.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: Another controversial call, but nonetheless, if you're gonna go up and you either have to set that screen or not make contact.
- 17:22SPEAKER_03: And my man got caught in the middle, and that's why they called that offensive foul.
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: And then NOT Cade Cunningham fouled out, you know, the number one number one player is supposed to be the number one pick in next year's draft.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: And uh uh we could not take care of business.
- 17:36SPEAKER_03: We got out rebounded late, which was rough to see.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: Uh, I did have a little thing about Beard, man.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: He took out Marcus Sanosilva there at the end when we need rebounding.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: And I know he's a free throw liability, I know he shoots under 50 from the line, but when you need you need a rebound, and we were up, and we needed to keep that guy in.
- 17:57SPEAKER_03: So uh uh kind of a mistake there for Chris Beard that I didn't like to see.
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: Kevin McCullough had a bad game, two of 11 from the field for that guy.
- 18:05SPEAKER_03: So uh tough, tough deal.
- 18:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, whenever I was checking my phone a little bit, you know, checking all the score and stuff and checking Twitter.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: I saw you like getting a little lit up about our coach.
- 18:14SPEAKER_02: Like the most I've ever seen you lit up about it with the his decisions and stuff.
- 18:17SPEAKER_02: So that was just whenever I saw that, I was like, wow, it must be going really badly, which is which is already bad because I'm I'm stuck in a room full of nothing but Aggies.
- 18:25SPEAKER_02: I needed a little good news.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: So I'm I'm a big Chris Beard fan.
- 18:28SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm not one of those, I yeah, I'm not one of those guys that and and granted, there's a lot of people that are you know, some of the main tech accounts are saying, like, uh uh, to all those who want Chris Beard fired, I don't think that's a very big population, guys.
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: No, I think that's one or two guys on Twitter that you might have seen.
- 18:47SPEAKER_03: There's not not a big of not a big population of people that want Chris Beard fired.
- 18:51SPEAKER_03: So um, but and uh just just kind of blows my mind that you that some people think that uh we really want Chris Beard fired.
- 19:00SPEAKER_03: But it is it's it's also okay to to judge what he's been doing wrong.
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: And absolutely some of these rotations are not very good.
- 19:07SPEAKER_03: Some of these plays he's running at the end of close games uh are not fantastic.
- 19:12SPEAKER_03: I mean, the Mac McClung play at the end of overtime against Oklahoma State.
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: I don't know what the hell that was, and I don't know if it was just miscommunication by the players or if Chris Beard just didn't set up a good play, but and not playing Marcus.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, fouling in the OU game when you're up three, I think that's a terrible coaching decision.
- 19:31SPEAKER_03: Uh, he's open to criticism still.
- 19:33SPEAKER_03: As much as he's a fantastic coach, and as much as I love him, he's still open to criticism.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: And so, you know, he's made some mistakes this year.
- 19:41SPEAKER_03: And but also on on the opposite end of things, I believe in the guy more than I believe in anybody in the world.
- 19:47SPEAKER_03: So, to get this thing figured out.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: No, absolutely, dude.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: I wasn't saying you're out on Chris.
- 19:51SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying I've never seen you uh uh so critical of him, and that's perfectly fine, man.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: He he's I'm sure he's critical of himself as well.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: He's still a younger coach in the grand scheme of things, you know, he's still got a lot to learn.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: He's you know, he's he's at the P5 level for only a few years now.
- 20:05SPEAKER_02: He's gonna make mistakes, uh, but he's still our guy, and we still love him to death.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: So I wasn't implying that at all.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: I was just saying it was just interesting to see you uh line up about that because I mean it's not just the players that lose games, so do coaches.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: And he Chris is not immortal, so yeah, he doesn't he doesn't get a free pass on everything.
- 20:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 20:25SPEAKER_03: I love the guy, love him to death, but he doesn't get a free pass on everything.
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: And uh it once when when he gets called out for it, it's okay, it's fine to criticize for sure.
- 20:34SPEAKER_03: Um, but we did follow strong with a with a Kansas State win that was much closer, probably, than uh what it should have been the whole game.
- 20:41SPEAKER_03: Again, offense not flowing very well in the first half.
- 20:44SPEAKER_03: Uh, it's you know, we run this motion offense, and seeing three guys not move in a motion offense, it hurts because it's just sometimes it's just Mac dribbling, and Marcus will set a screen and that goes nowhere, and then the lane's clogged up, and then you got a PV out there who can't shoot for his life outside of 10 feet, and then Jamarius Purton, who I'm still trying to figure out how what if he even belongs on the team, to be honest, he's been very bad these last couple games, and and really not not great the whole season.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: But um I I just don't know, I just don't know sometimes what these guys are thinking on offense, dude.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: You the the most frustrating thing I thought on offense in that game was the fast breaks.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Every time there was a fast break, it was just like, How did you mess that up?
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: Are you kidding me?
- 21:33SPEAKER_03: I mean, those are just basketball plays, those are just I mean, getting to your right spot and passing at the right time.
- 21:39SPEAKER_03: You know, timing is everything on the fast break, and we just could not figure there.
- 21:43SPEAKER_03: Were three plays in in specific that I just remember we completely jacked up.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: I mean, three on ones, two on ones, three on twos.
- 21:51SPEAKER_03: Like we just could not figure it out, man.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: Three points out the window, and those should be like electric plays, you know.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: The obviously the one murder.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Of a dunk, so it was the only shining light in that bunch, but you know, lit the place up.
- 22:07SPEAKER_02: But other than that, we were it was tough to watch.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: It just went directly the other way right after that.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, I mean, but but Terrence Shannon was awesome in that.
- 22:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, he looked he looked like a lottery pick in that game, man.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: He came off the bench, and I'm I'm thinking that kind of lit a fire under him uh for the first time.
- 22:24SPEAKER_03: And I think since he's been starting at tech, comes off the bench and scores 22 points, five and nine from the field.
- 22:29SPEAKER_03: And the big thing, 11 of 12 from the free throw line for Terrence Shannon.
- 22:33SPEAKER_03: Awesome.
- 22:34SPEAKER_03: Oh, our free throws have gone through the roof lately.
- 22:37SPEAKER_03: We have really picked that aspect of our game up as a team.
- 22:40SPEAKER_03: We're still not there with two guys, and I just don't think we're gonna be there when we're talking about Micah Peavy going to the line and we're talking about Marcus Sanosilva going to the line.
- 22:48SPEAKER_03: Uh Marcus, it just looks rough, man.
- 22:51SPEAKER_03: And for a guy that has never really had to shoot the ball his entire basketball playing career, it's just probably not gonna get very much better.
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: Uh, to be honest, Micah's concerning.
- 23:00SPEAKER_03: I've expressed this on Twitter.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: Um, Micah Peavy's jumper, everything, the mechanics look horrible.
- 23:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, the guy looks like he doesn't even know how to shoot.
- 23:09SPEAKER_03: And so concerning something, somebody needs to lock him up in the gym in this offseason and make him just shoot from outside of 10 feet and get something down, shoot free throws, do what you need to do, Micah.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: It sounds like you're just listing all these awful uh ingredients to the recipe that has been our really slow offense, man.
- 23:30SPEAKER_03: And and it's just I I complain because I know we can be so much better.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: Like it's so it's different from football because football, I don't expect much, basketball.
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: I'm expecting a lot, and with expecting a lot comes when you don't get you know a great performance, you're gonna have a lot of complaints, and so that's why I'm expressing this.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: And I'm a more of a basketball guy than I am a football guy, so I have been watching basketball my whole life, you know, from age five and going to Spurs games and stuff like that.
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: So I think I know a fair amount about the game, and uh seeing our offense just be nothing for a lot of these possessions, it it hurts.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: Well, we gotta get to some positives.
- 24:07SPEAKER_02: It was still a dub.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: We won.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we won.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: Defense was awesome, and another thing that we were complaining about earlier in the season was free throws, looks a lot better.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: We went 30 for 36, and it's hard to complain about that, especially with how angry we were about them before.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: Like we would have won the Houston game had we made them.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: So it's I'm glad to see at least some things are turning around a bit, and that's what gives me some hope to going forward that maybe there are things on the offense that will get better, like the free throws did.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: And so, right now, maybe it's the fast breaks, you know.
- 24:38SPEAKER_03: But it's it's just the entire offense.
- 24:40SPEAKER_03: Uh, the the good thing about this team is that defensively, our defense is gonna keep us in every single game this year, no matter who we're playing, whether we're playing Baylor, UT, whoever, we're gonna be in the game because of our defense.
- 24:52SPEAKER_03: I mean, we are so solid on that end, and Chris Beard really and Mark Adams too, gotta give credit to the defensive guru himself.
- 24:59SPEAKER_03: Those guys have really built a culture of defense and uh unbelievable plays, switching.
- 25:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, some of these plays are just beautiful to watch.
- 25:08SPEAKER_03: I mean, the ball's moving on that end, and we are getting them at every point, every single point.
- 25:13SPEAKER_03: We have a guy there in front of him.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: We don't let a lot of points go against us.
- 25:17SPEAKER_03: We cause a lot of turnovers.
- 25:19SPEAKER_03: So uh, I'm really happy with our defensive performance.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: I think it's just something we've come to expect out of a beard uh basketball team now.
- 25:27SPEAKER_02: So I hope that remains.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: I just let's just hope the other side of the ball gets better.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: It's a two-part game.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: So uh hopefully we see some improvement going into our next games, unless you have anything else to top off with the cats.
- 25:39SPEAKER_03: No, that's it for Wildcats.
- 25:41SPEAKER_03: Uh pulled out the dub.
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: We moved to nine and three on the year.
- 25:44SPEAKER_03: I think we are ranked 18 now in the AP poll.
- 25:47SPEAKER_03: To me, I don't know.
- 25:49SPEAKER_03: Maybe maybe it's a little better if we're not ranked because I like Chris Beard's teams when they have a chip on their shoulder.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: So um, you know, we'll see.
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: But 18.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: Chris was lit the heck up in the in the K-State game, though.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: His face was red.
- 26:01SPEAKER_03: You can tell because it's just like like like the effort that sometimes these guys show isn't enough for him.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: And Chris Beard's an intense guy, and I love seeing him on the sideline just getting, you know, super upset.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: I wish he could yell at me like that when I make a mistake, I'd be a much better person.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: Me too, dude.
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: You could just screaming red faced right in my face.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: I need that in my life.
- 26:27SPEAKER_03: Chris, come on the podcast and yell at me.
- 26:29SPEAKER_03: Just do that.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: But um, we do have two upcoming games we should preview.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: Uh at Iowa State, who is not as bad as their record indicates.
- 26:41SPEAKER_03: They are two and six on the year, but they just came off two really tight games against both Baylor and Texas, who are the best two teams in the conference, probably by a good margin.
- 26:53SPEAKER_03: Um, Baylor, they ended up losing by 11, but it was close that whole game.
- 26:57SPEAKER_03: I mean, they uh Baylor took over in the final minutes, but Iowa State hung with them, and that was at, I think that was in uh oh, where do they play?
- 27:04SPEAKER_03: Hilton?
- 27:04SPEAKER_03: Hilton Coliseum, I think that's where they play.
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: Uh in Iowa State.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: Um they played the number two Bears really well.
- 27:10SPEAKER_03: Uh they're frisky, man.
- 27:12SPEAKER_03: They have a lot of good young players.
- 27:13SPEAKER_03: Um one of their guards, man, I cannot remember his name, but he was awesome that whole time in that Baylor game.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: But he had a great game.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: They have a two solid big guys underneath that switch off Solomon Young and uh another big guy that go in.
- 27:30SPEAKER_03: This is not looking good.
- 27:31SPEAKER_03: I can't remember the names of these dudes.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: Hey guys, Steven here.
- 27:36SPEAKER_03: Uh rough little preview to Iowa State to start.
- 27:39SPEAKER_03: But uh the guys I'm talking about in particular, Rasir Bolton is the little quick guard, number 45, uh, and the two big guys they switch between Solomon Young and George Condant the fourth.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: Uh both of those dudes are uh uh really good interior defenders.
- 27:54SPEAKER_03: Um, and also I should mention Javon Johnson, who is uh a really good forward out there, good wings, about 6'6, so uh I just wanted to clear that up.
- 28:03SPEAKER_03: All right, back to the pod.
- 28:06SPEAKER_03: Iowa State's frisky.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: They're frisky, they play fast, they uh they have a good young team.
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: Uh Steve Prom, I'm not sold on as a as a very good coach, but uh if he can rally his guys, and it seems like that whole team sticks together.
- 28:19SPEAKER_03: And it's early in the season, sometimes that kind of teeters off once you keep losing more games, but um Iowa State's tough.
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a great point.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: Uh they they've they've they've looked pretty shaky throughout the season, too.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: So I'm wondering, does that is that a reflection on on Baylor and UT or more on Iowa State?
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: So it's it kind of seems you know hard to tell right now with that.
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: And any road game in the Big 12 is a kick in the butt.
- 28:45SPEAKER_02: So it's it's kind of tough to tell, and that's what kind of worries me about going two aims.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: So it's it's gonna be a test no matter what, but uh, I I it's hard to say we're we're we're uh moving in the right direction with the way this offense is looking, but this we do need to win this game because last week you and I were talking, we were looking at this this next slate of games.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: We were like, we need to go three and oh, and now we're disappointed.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: So yeah, we better go two and one.
- 29:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean we have Texas and Baylor after Iowa State, so that's uh that's a gauntlet right there.
- 29:19SPEAKER_03: But uh the good news is West Virginia lost one of their good players, so they're not looking as good as they were in the season, but uh yeah, that Oklahoma State loss hurts.
- 29:29SPEAKER_03: But uh, you know, following it up with a win against Kansas State.
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: Hopefully we go and take it against Iowa State.
- 29:34SPEAKER_03: Uh, but they're frisky.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: That is 3 p.m.
- 29:36SPEAKER_03: on ESPN 2 Saturday.
- 29:38SPEAKER_03: So um Iowa State, man.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't really have much more on them.
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: I would like a little revenge, you know, it's kind of like I'd like a little revenge from football every time we're playing some of these things, which I guess can apply to basically all of them.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: So we have a trailer.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: I I hope these guys still have a little, I feel like they have a lot to prove because they do.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: So we got let's go get let's go kick the clones' butts.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: But uh then after that is obviously a game that is circled on the calendar.
- 30:06SPEAKER_02: Yes, I think you and I'll be uh talking tech live from the concrete flannel.
- 30:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the concrete flan known as the Frank Irwin Center.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: We will be there on uh what is it, Wednesday the 13th, 8 p.m.
- 30:20SPEAKER_03: Texas versus Texas Tech.
- 30:23SPEAKER_03: Texas is now ranked number four in the nation right now after coming off a 25-point win in Allen Fieldhouse against Kansas.
- 30:33SPEAKER_03: They look awesome right now.
- 30:36SPEAKER_03: I mean scary.
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: I'm uh this is gonna be a huge matchup.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: I bet the I bet it'll be a sold-out game.
- 30:44SPEAKER_02: Uh good for us, you know, it'll be it'll be a fun atmosphere, but bad for our players.
- 30:49SPEAKER_02: So uh I really hope we can get in there and uh you know shut them down, but it's gonna be a real test.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: We always we we don't have the easiest time when we play UT in anything.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: Well, and the thing, and the thing is, UT returned almost their whole team this year, and they added a top 10 guy in Greg Brown who looks awesome.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: I can't believe that this last season we were talking about like Shaka getting fired.
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: Like it seems like a lifetime ago that we were talking about that because that was whenever we're like, you know, it uh it's gonna be funny when they fire Shaka.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: I just hope they don't gum for Chris.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um, now it's that's obviously out of the question.
- 31:26SPEAKER_03: So now he's doing a great job with this team, and he's had them for a few years now.
- 31:30SPEAKER_03: These are his guys that he's had.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: I think he's been there like four or five years already.
- 31:34SPEAKER_03: Yes, he has.
- 31:35SPEAKER_03: But he but this is his first year with hair, so that's the difference.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: He grew out his hair, and that's I guess he's got magical powers in that afro of his.
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: Well, we'll we'll be the good luck charm for our boys, you know.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: Chris Beard has been looking for our faces in the crowd.
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: Be like, there's those ugly boys.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: Let's go, let's go put some ugly boys, let's go put a smile on their dumb faces.
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: So I've I'm excited to see a like a minimum crowd with Chris Beard yelling.
- 32:02SPEAKER_03: Yes, you'll be able to hear it across the arena.
- 32:05SPEAKER_03: Anyone in that friggin' stadium is gonna hear Chris Beard yelling in the timeout, but we should talk about Texas.
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: Uh Matt Coleman, they have a great they have a lot of good players, dude.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: Matt Coleman, uh, Greg Brown, Kai Jones, uh, Cordy Raimi.
- 32:19SPEAKER_03: I could go on and on about this team and how good, how solid they are.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: They're also really long at every position.
- 32:26SPEAKER_03: It's like, guys, just you know, how do you get a how do you get the tallest guys in college basketball?
- 32:32SPEAKER_03: I don't know, and football.
- 32:34SPEAKER_03: And football, they get the best.
- 32:35SPEAKER_03: I hate it.
- 32:36SPEAKER_03: I hate UT.
- 32:37SPEAKER_03: I hate them so much.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: They have a dumb, they have a dumb arena.
- 32:40SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 32:40SPEAKER_02: It looks like a they do.
- 32:42SPEAKER_03: It looks like flann.
- 32:43SPEAKER_02: You guys the content y'all come to this podcast for.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: Um, they had some COVID issues though against Iowa State, had two uh they were bench warmers, granted, but uh some covet going on, so hopefully, you know, everything stays safe.
- 32:57SPEAKER_03: I want to be able to go to that game and have it not postpone.
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: So uh get better Texas, you know.
- 33:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and playing a full-fledged Texas team is what we want anyway.
- 33:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so it's no doubt.
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: Um I I I I I bet this is also a game that our players circle on the calendar as well.
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: It's just like no matter what, you get you get up for your arrival.
- 33:15SPEAKER_02: So I hope that we really come out like we need to with the chip on our shoulder and need to make a statement.
- 33:20SPEAKER_02: So I I feel I feel I'm not gonna say it's I feel really good about this, but yeah, I definitely don't feel like we're gonna lose.
- 33:27SPEAKER_02: Like, I'm just it's it's it's I feel like we're gonna go have a fun game in the in the least.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: So, like I said, our defense keeps us in every game, no matter who we're playing this year.
- 33:35SPEAKER_03: Uh I but that is a concerning thing.
- 33:37SPEAKER_03: Starting off strong, we have not done that either in these games.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: I mean, we haven't started off you know, shooting well, we're not moving the ball well to start the game, and that's something that's a little on the coaches, too.
- 33:49SPEAKER_03: You know, you got to get your guys ready to go.
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: And I it's it's not like I don't think Chris Beard's not trying to not pumping his guys up in the locker room before the game, because if anybody's doing that, Chris Beard's doing that, but it's on the guys to really get it going, get some key buckets early, get it just punch him in the mouth early, man.
- 34:05SPEAKER_03: You're playing a really good team.
- 34:06SPEAKER_03: You gotta go balls to the wall, you have to get your make your way into the lane, get fouled.
- 34:11SPEAKER_03: You know, we shot, I think, 40-something free throws last game against Kansas State or 30, 36 free throws against Kansas State.
- 34:19SPEAKER_03: So we need to do that again.
- 34:20SPEAKER_03: Get them in foul trouble, get to the line, do what you need to do.
- 34:24SPEAKER_03: Mac, I love that mackerel energy when he goes just headfirst into like three defenders.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: Sometimes it doesn't work out for him, but he gets fouled a lot of the time.
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: So I I wish some of our guys had that same energy.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: You can't fault him for attitude, that's for sure.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: No doubt.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: He's not gonna come out uh soft.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: So hey, I a very important stat about this game, though, is we're undefeated on the road in the Big 12.
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: So I'm not saying it's not an act of, but it's dang near.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: So you mean you mean of the one game we played?
- 34:53SPEAKER_02: That's that was the unimportant part, okay?
- 34:56SPEAKER_03: That was one and oh, we haven't lost on the road.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: That was what's that was a good stat.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: You know it.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: That's why they call me the numbers guy.
- 35:07SPEAKER_03: Good, good stat.
- 35:09SPEAKER_03: As Matt Wells would say, one and oh, right where we need to be.
- 35:15SPEAKER_03: Pain.
- 35:16SPEAKER_03: Pain.
- 35:17SPEAKER_03: We're not talking about Matt Wells today, but yeah, that's what's coming up for basketball.
- 35:23SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I what should be a easier game.
- 35:28SPEAKER_03: I I say that with uh a little shakiness, but uh, we should take care of Iowa State.
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: Texas will be much tougher, but uh, you know, hopefully we come out two and oh on the week and uh get ready for Baylor starting next week.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for sure.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: We gotta talk a little mess to Travis.
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: So yes, gotta do it.
- 35:47SPEAKER_03: Well, his uh he hasn't been too high on uh he's he's still living off Iowa State's football game.
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they haven't left football season yet.
- 35:54SPEAKER_03: They're probably they're not gonna do that.
- 35:56SPEAKER_03: No, they're just gonna ride that ride that wave because they don't even have a baseball team either.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: So lame in the Big 12.
- 36:01SPEAKER_02: You don't have a baseball team.
- 36:03SPEAKER_03: Get a baseball team.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: Let's go, let's go show them what's up.
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: Let's get the coronados, let's go get those cows in orange.
- 36:09SPEAKER_02: Let's roll.
- 36:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: Do you want to talk a little championship?
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: Who you got?
- 36:15SPEAKER_02: Okay, so for the natty, I definitely want the Bucks to win.
- 36:19SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, as that that's that can't be a minority opinion.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: So I don't know, man.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: A lot of people are not big on Ohio State right now because of the six-win thing, yeah.
- 36:28SPEAKER_03: Because of how they got in the playoff, but they proved they belong.
- 36:31SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, they freaking killed Clemson, they deserved it.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: The ACC went completely defeated, they don't win a single bowl game, which is just wild.
- 36:41SPEAKER_03: But big 12, 5 and 12.
- 36:43SPEAKER_02: 12 went five and oh, and Texas Tech was a part of that by not losing, so not all around in the heartland.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: So we did it, we did it, baby.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: But but seriously, what a great look for the conference.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm not I'm not gonna sit here and pump my fist Big 12, Big 12, but I I love shutting up the the media perception of the conference, especially in comparison to like the SEC or the Big Ten.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: So very happy about that.
- 37:08SPEAKER_02: But back to the back to the championship.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, go bucks.
- 37:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, we don't need another Saban trophy, like Ryan Day doesn't have one yet.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: Um, so it's it's gonna happen.
- 37:19SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be gonna win.
- 37:22SPEAKER_02: So I wish I wish it could be uh Notre Dame versus Ohio State or something, yeah.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: But because there'd just be a little bit of switch up, it'd be way funnier.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: But um Notre Dame.
- 37:32SPEAKER_03: I I was I was rooting hard for Notre Dame.
- 37:35SPEAKER_03: I was probably one of the few, but uh didn't work out for the fighting Irish.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so uh we're we're we're with our boy Corey here.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: Um go go Bucks, go Bucks, and I think they stand a good chance, man.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: With the way they look against Clemson, who's to say, right?
- 37:51SPEAKER_03: It's it's tough beating uh uh Trevor Lawrence with Trevor Lawrence Clemson.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: So he's a what there was a stat where he he only lost one game before that when he that is wild, that's stupid gosh, dude.
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: That's and and you know what the one game was against LSU in last year's championship.
- 38:07SPEAKER_03: Oh my goodness, that is wild, dude.
- 38:11SPEAKER_03: He's lost two games in his starting in his entire collegiate career, and they were both in the playoff.
- 38:17SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh, Clemson has it made, dude.
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: They they they just they just can't kind of get to walk through their conference and just get ready for the playoff.
- 38:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, one at a time.
- 38:26SPEAKER_03: But that is insane.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: That's what a talent.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: We'll see what next five-star quarterback goes to Clemson than how they are next season.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: It was cool seeing Devontae Smith win the Heisman, I will say that.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: Yes, um, finally, another position besides quarterback or running back wins the freaking Heisman.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 38:44SPEAKER_02: I was about to just you could have just renamed it to the quarterback trophy after a while.
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: So happy about that.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: Not so happy it's an Alabama dude, but it's it is what it is.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: Um, but hey, uh, I think that's all I have to say about that.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: What about you?
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: Anything to add?
- 38:59SPEAKER_03: Well, he was he was really good, and he's one of the I mean, he Alabama always has these kick butt wide receivers and uh running backs and quarterbacks and O-line and D-line in every position in football, but uh he deserved it.
- 39:11SPEAKER_03: He had and the thing came down to really their last game.
- 39:15SPEAKER_03: I think Trevor Lawrence lost in a big fashion.
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: Kyle Trask had three interceptions against OU in the first quarter.
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: Looked at the Big 12 defense, man.
- 39:23SPEAKER_03: That Big 12 defense, they're just they stink.
- 39:26SPEAKER_02: They stink so much, man.
- 39:27SPEAKER_02: Play some play some defense like the 60 to 62 sec shit.
- 39:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, for real.
- 39:34SPEAKER_03: No, but uh, and then uh I guess Mac Jones, but he's just he just wasn't he didn't have the like name for it.
- 39:40SPEAKER_03: People weren't talking about Mac Jones this year, it's just another Alabama quarterback, but um no Devontae Smith deserved it.
- 39:47SPEAKER_03: It was cool to see a wide receiver.
- 39:48SPEAKER_03: First time since '91 that a wide receiver won it, which is insane to me.
- 39:52SPEAKER_02: Michael Crabtree got snubbed.
- 39:54SPEAKER_03: He got snubbed both years, 2008 and 2009.
- 40:00SPEAKER_03: Oh, he got snubbed this year, too.
- 40:02SPEAKER_03: Michael Crabtree should have won.
- 40:03SPEAKER_02: He should have, yeah.
- 40:04SPEAKER_02: They should have made it up to him.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: Rename the Heisman to Michael Crabtree Award.
- 40:09SPEAKER_03: Please do it, do it, you cowards.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: No, but um, I think that's I think I mean I I think Alabama's gonna kill him.
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: Oh, I don't know.
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: I I I I I think I think uh Ohio State beat the better opponent in the playoff in a very convincing fashion.
- 40:27SPEAKER_02: So I I think it's gonna be a game.
- 40:29SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying Ohio State's gonna win, but I don't think they're gonna necessarily gonna lose.
- 40:32SPEAKER_02: They are hot right now.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: They're feeling pretty 50 on it.
- 40:35SPEAKER_03: Oh, I'm really they're gonna be right now, and and Trey Sermon's the difference.
- 40:38SPEAKER_03: That dude, the running back is going off right now.
- 40:41SPEAKER_03: So I I think it'll be a little tougher against the Bama defense.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: So uh if they get the run game going, I think they'll make it a closer game.
- 40:47SPEAKER_03: But uh, I don't know.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: I think Bama's offense is too crazy.
- 40:50SPEAKER_03: So um, but go Ohio State.
- 40:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, go Bucks.
- 40:54SPEAKER_03: Go Bucks.
- 40:55SPEAKER_03: Uh Tristan, I think we can I think we can end it right there.
- 40:57SPEAKER_03: Not much going on uh until baseball season starts up again with tech sports.
- 41:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, just basketball going on, women's basketball playing OU uh tonight.
- 41:05SPEAKER_03: I think they were down by nine and a half, so hopefully they they pull that one out and uh have a good game.
- 41:10SPEAKER_03: But uh also happy birthday, Mac McClung.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: We didn't mention the mackerel he sees the mackerel can now legally he can now legally drink, my man.
- 41:20SPEAKER_03: Congratulations, congratulations.
- 41:22SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, go mackerel, rock on, dude.
- 41:26SPEAKER_03: 21.
- 41:27SPEAKER_03: What'd you do?
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: What'd you do for your 21st?
- 41:30SPEAKER_03: What was your 21st?
- 41:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, what'd you do for your 21st?
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: I went to Denton.
- 41:33SPEAKER_03: Oh, you went to Denton?
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's okay to Denton.
- 41:37SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 41:37SPEAKER_03: Why Denton?
- 41:39SPEAKER_02: You thought I'd be more poppin' on winter break in a college town in Dallas.
- 41:43SPEAKER_02: So Austin mistake! What was that?
- 41:46SPEAKER_02: Denton?
- 41:47SPEAKER_02: I think it'll be closer.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: It'll still a good time because he brought all the uh all the old boys from Lovick out.
- 41:53SPEAKER_03: So but uh Dallas right there.
- 41:55SPEAKER_03: Why didn't you go to Dungeon?
- 41:58SPEAKER_02: I know, but Mackerel, I hope if you're gonna you're obviously gonna go celebrate.
- 42:03SPEAKER_02: Do it tonight.
- 42:03SPEAKER_02: Please do not wait till Friday.
- 42:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yes, do it tonight.
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: Party hardy, Mac.
- 42:10SPEAKER_03: You rock, brother.
- 42:11SPEAKER_03: Um, and then okay, why don't Tristan?
- 42:13SPEAKER_03: Why don't you give me your song of the week?
- 42:14SPEAKER_02: All right, so my song of the week, I'm going to go with a Texas guy, bring it back to the country.
- 42:21SPEAKER_02: Uh, it's a song that I really enjoyed out of 2020.
- 42:24SPEAKER_02: It's a single from Parker McCollum called Young Young Man's Blues, and it's just a jam.
- 42:30SPEAKER_02: It's a rock and roll, easy to listen to.
- 42:32SPEAKER_02: It's and I really I really like the songs that are nostalgic where they kind of he's going back to his hometown and reflecting on his past because I think that's something we can all uh relate to, and that's what that's why that's just great songwriting.
- 42:44SPEAKER_02: So uh Young Man's Blues, Parker McCollum.
- 42:48SPEAKER_04: Just might be the hardest thing ever do.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: Parker Mac.
- 43:06SPEAKER_03: Very nice, dude or not.
- 43:07SPEAKER_03: Uh I don't I don't know enough Parker McCollum.
- 43:09SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 43:10SPEAKER_02: You should listen to him more.
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: He's he's a he's definitely a rising star.
- 43:12SPEAKER_02: He he's he signed a national contract, but he hasn't changed his sound, which I appreciate.
- 43:16SPEAKER_02: So he's but will he?
- 43:18SPEAKER_02: I hope not.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: I mean spooky.
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: He's I think he's gonna he's he's pretty dedicated to the country music thing, like George Trade is his as is is his idol and such.
- 43:27SPEAKER_02: So try to be like him.
- 43:28SPEAKER_02: We like people that like George, exactly.
- 43:31SPEAKER_02: So, what about you, dude?
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: What are you saying?
- 43:34SPEAKER_03: My song of the week came out a few probably a few years ago at this point.
- 43:39SPEAKER_03: Um, it is Slide by Calvin Harris, featuring Frank Ocean and Migos, just a good jam, good DJ song, huh?
- 43:46SPEAKER_03: DJ song, big not a big DJ guy, but I do like this song.
- 43:51SPEAKER_03: Um, came out uh like I said a while ago, but uh just a just smooth, smooth, smooth bump and jam, nice to listen to in the car.
- 43:58SPEAKER_03: You're like you could really just do it anywhere, you can good running song, but um, yeah, Frank Ocean rocks, Migos is fun.
- 44:04SPEAKER_03: So um, that is my song of the week.
- 44:06SPEAKER_03: Slide.
- 44:07SPEAKER_04: Do you slide on all your knives like this?
- 44:12SPEAKER_04: Do you try on all your knives like this?
- 44:16SPEAKER_04: Put some spylight on the slide.
- 44:21SPEAKER_04: Whatever comes, comes to click.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: Wow, two weeks in a row where you've avoided the root sea country zone.
- 44:29SPEAKER_03: I'm trying to since you do only country, I'm trying to switch it up and do something different.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: I'm also trying not to repeat artists, even though I've wanted to a few times.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: Christmas doesn't count.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: Okay, Christmas does count.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: You lost it does not count.
- 44:42SPEAKER_02: I am still in the running.
- 44:44SPEAKER_03: Come on.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: This is bold.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: No, uh no, I wonder, I wanted to repeat a Kid Cuddy song.
- 44:51SPEAKER_03: There's a couple of his new album that I really liked, but I'm not gonna do that.
- 44:54SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna just wait a couple months to whatever's forgotten.
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: No, I like it.
- 44:59SPEAKER_03: I I you lost already.
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: You lost already, so I did not lose.
- 45:05SPEAKER_02: Christmas does not count.
- 45:09SPEAKER_03: All right, whatever you say, my man.
- 45:12SPEAKER_03: So I'm before we hang it up.
- 45:14SPEAKER_02: Uh I just want to give a shout out.
