- 0:00Speaker 1: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanya, who on Monday will head
- 0:03Speaker 1: to the wine House after a defiant speech in front
- 0:06Speaker 1: of the United Nations General Assembly. One item will be
- 0:09Speaker 1: on the agenda and that will be or one item
- 0:11Speaker 1: that will be on the agenda rather will be the
- 0:13Speaker 1: Trump administration's proposed twenty one point Gaza Peace Plans versus
- 0:17Speaker 1: telling scene, and that plan calls for all hostages to
- 0:19Speaker 1: be released within forty eight hours of a deal and
- 0:22Speaker 1: lays out a roadmap for Gaza after the war. I
- 0:24Speaker 1: want to bring in can in political and global affairs
- 0:26Speaker 1: analyst Barock Revive. He's also a correspondent for Axios. Brock,
- 0:30Speaker 1: thank you so much for being here. I know you
- 0:32Speaker 1: have had a busy week. You were at the UN
- 0:34Speaker 1: yesterday for the Prime Minister's speech. What was your sense
- 0:39Speaker 1: of how his message was received and where things stand now?
- 0:46Speaker 2: Hi, Jessica, I think the most interesting thing in the
- 0:49Speaker 2: Tanielo's speech was the fact that he did not refer
- 0:52Speaker 2: at all to a President Trump's plan for ending the
- 0:55Speaker 2: war in Gaza. He did not say a word, not
- 0:58Speaker 2: against it, not for it. He completely ignored it. When
- 1:02Speaker 2: I think a lot of people wanted to hear if
- 1:05Speaker 2: he's going to lay out any response to the plan
- 1:09Speaker 2: or you will talk about it in any way, But
- 1:11Speaker 2: he decided to ignore it. I think the speech itself
- 1:16Speaker 2: was mostly for domestic consumption. I don't think that Tanyau
- 1:21Speaker 2: wanted to really convince anybody from those who were in
- 1:24Speaker 2: the room. Most of the delegates left the room at
- 1:28Speaker 2: the beginning in protest, And I think the speech as
- 1:32Speaker 2: a whole wasn't that significant. It is far less significant
- 1:37Speaker 2: than the negotiations that are taking place right now about
- 1:40Speaker 2: the deal for ending the war.
- 1:42Speaker 1: And so you know that he didn't speak of this
- 1:46Speaker 1: peace plan one way or the other. What are you
- 1:50Speaker 1: hearing about the thinking around this proposed piece plan, both
- 1:54Speaker 1: from the Israelis, whether the Hamas negotiators would be open
- 1:59Speaker 1: to this kind of where the US is and all
- 2:01Speaker 1: of this.
- 2:03Speaker 2: So obviously, I think President Trump and his team want
- 2:06Speaker 2: to end the war.
- 2:08Speaker 3: This is very clear.
- 2:11Speaker 2: They have very little patients left for delays on this plan.
- 2:19Speaker 2: I think they I think they think that this twenty
- 2:23Speaker 2: one point plan.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Creates a basis for ending the war.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I think they managed to mobilize a lot of support in.
- 2:32Speaker 3: The Arab world, in the international community.
- 2:36Speaker 2: But there it's a big butt and Nathaniel is going
- 2:39Speaker 2: to come to the White House on Monday. And in
- 2:41Speaker 2: many meetings, previous meetings and previous phone calls, Nathaniel had
- 2:46Speaker 2: Trump Trump came in to the meeting or started the
- 2:49Speaker 2: phone call.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Wanting to.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Or stressing a certain position and left the meeting or
- 2:56Speaker 2: the phone call stressing another position which was much close
- 3:00Speaker 2: to that of Nathanial. So I think the question is
- 3:02Speaker 2: whether President Trump is going to really put his foot
- 3:05Speaker 2: down and say, mister Natanieo, that's it, you need to
- 3:09Speaker 2: end the war and now is not the time for arguments,
- 3:13Speaker 2: or Nathaniel will come in lay out his position to
- 3:18Speaker 2: President Trump, and President Trump will come out of the
- 3:20Speaker 2: meeting and say, you know what, I agree with mister Nathaniel.
- 3:24Speaker 2: That's the one big question mark everything else. I think
- 3:28Speaker 2: the details of the plan are I'm not saying they're
- 3:32Speaker 2: not important, but the most important thing is how firm
- 3:38Speaker 2: is Trump going to be with NATHANIAO in that meeting?
- 3:41Speaker 1: And I think you're right, and that seems to be
- 3:45Speaker 1: the thing that's going to dictate where this goes from
- 3:48Speaker 1: here is what does Prime Minister Natna who think he
- 3:51Speaker 1: can get and does he think he can push Trump
- 3:54Speaker 1: and convince him to be more in alignment with him,
- 3:57Speaker 1: or does the president can he hold on onto what
- 4:00Speaker 1: he actually wants to achieve?
- 4:02Speaker 3: What do you know about.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Kind of as as net who prepares for this? What
- 4:07Speaker 1: are there? What is the what is the Israeli thinking,
- 4:09Speaker 1: the Israelly government thinking? Are the Prime minister's teams thinking
- 4:12Speaker 1: around going into this meeting?
- 4:16Speaker 3: Well? I think it's it's basically Natanielo himself.
- 4:21Speaker 2: I don't think people around him have a lot of
- 4:25Speaker 2: influence on his thinking. A lot of it is about
- 4:28Speaker 2: domestic politics, whether he thinks that, uh, going for that
- 4:33Speaker 2: deal right now will serve as political interest in many ways.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Nataniao's dilemma and I heard that from both Israeli officials
- 4:41Speaker 2: and US officials. His dilemma now is he's in this
- 4:46Speaker 2: folk in the road and he needs to choose whether
- 4:50Speaker 2: he wants to go with Donald Trump or he wants
- 4:53Speaker 2: to go with his ultnationalist coalition partners Betzalesmotic and itamal Bengil.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Those are very different choices. In the past, when Joe
- 5:04Speaker 2: Biden was the president, Nataniao chose many times to go
- 5:09Speaker 2: with Benvillen Smotage. Not with the President of the United States.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Now the question is whether Nataniao will pick Trump this time.
- 5:18Speaker 2: I think that if NATANIAU goes to that meeting on
- 5:21Speaker 2: Monday and it ends without a deal and without him
- 5:27Speaker 2: convincing Trump to back him, this could be a very
- 5:31Speaker 2: very serious crisis between Israel and the United States.
- 5:37Speaker 1: That's very Yeah, it's very interesting to think of it
- 5:39Speaker 1: that way. And to your point about where this fork
- 5:43Speaker 1: in the road that na Yahu where he is, Trump
- 5:46Speaker 1: says he spoke to the Prime Minister Friday, and in
- 5:48Speaker 1: Trump's words, he said that he will not allow Israel
- 5:51Speaker 1: to annex the West Bank, which of course the far
- 5:53Speaker 1: right members of his government very much are in support of.
- 5:57Speaker 1: That seems like a key issue that really underscores and
- 6:00Speaker 1: highlights exactly the fork in the road that you're talking about.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Yes, definitely, and I think that when there were a
- 6:09Speaker 2: lot of people, including Nataniao himself, including his confidean Rondermer.
- 6:14Speaker 3: That said, oh, it's not going to be a problem.
- 6:18Speaker 2: We'll convince Trump to give us a green light for
- 6:21Speaker 2: some kind of annexation in the West Bank, maybe not
- 6:24Speaker 2: the whole West Bank, maybe just small parts will also
- 6:27Speaker 2: convince the UAE to be okay with it. We will
- 6:33Speaker 2: manage to do something. And I think that in the
- 6:34Speaker 2: last week it became clear both the Arab world, especially
- 6:38Speaker 2: the United Arab Emirates, that made it clear that annexation,
- 6:42Speaker 2: any kind of annexation, is a red line, and President
- 6:46Speaker 2: Trump went publicly, went out publicly and said I will
- 6:50Speaker 2: not allow it. I think that took this thing off
- 6:54Speaker 2: the table. For NATANIAU to do this now, it would
- 6:57Speaker 2: be a direct confrontation with President Trump. And I really
- 7:04Speaker 2: don't think that NATANIAO will go down the road.
- 7:07Speaker 3: I don't see that.
- 7:08Speaker 2: But when it comes to Trump, I think we have
- 7:12Speaker 2: a historic record already, and we saw that in the
- 7:16Speaker 2: Trump wanted to end the twelve day war between Israel
- 7:20Speaker 2: and Iran, and he was willing to confront NATANIAO on
- 7:24Speaker 2: this thing, and he forced him.
- 7:27Speaker 3: To turn back.
- 7:29Speaker 2: The Israeli jets were on their way for another strike
- 7:33Speaker 2: in Tehran, and and he forced him into the seasfire.
- 7:37Speaker 3: And it was a huge success for President Trump. And
- 7:40Speaker 3: he saw.
- 7:41Speaker 2: How when he that he's that he has leverage over
- 7:44Speaker 2: Nathaniel that he can force them into seasfires. And I
- 7:48Speaker 2: think that The question is whether Trump is going to
- 7:51Speaker 2: be the Donald Trump of the twelve Day war that
- 7:53Speaker 2: forces the seas fire NATANIAO or the Donald Trump of
- 7:56Speaker 2: the last eight months that has more or less bad
- 8:00Speaker 2: and Tanaoe on anything he wanted to do in Gaza.
- 8:03Speaker 1: It will be quite interesting to see Barack revive. Always
- 8:05Speaker 1: good to have you, Thank you so much.
