- 2:21by the outage, and of course he had questions. We're going to talk
- 2:23to him about that coming up a little bit later on in the show,
- 2:28and several items I want to get into as far as the news department goes,
- 2:32I do want to mention this and I'll try to mention a little bit
- 2:35later. On today's day two of the Astorgato and Charleston Police Department Toy Drive
- 2:38at the Benny Keadom Shrine on Courier Street. They'll be out there about eleven
- 2:42o'clock, so get an opportunity stop by and to help those folks out.
- 2:45We'll have more on that coming up a little bit later. Ronald, Welcome
- 2:47into the show. Kennaw County Commissioner Ben Selango, Good morning, sir,
- 2:50how are you? Good morning? Well, I just learned something about you
- 2:54and you and I've known each other for a number of years. But I
- 2:59had no idea that you also suffer from the sickness known as being a Dallas
- 3:02Cowboy fan. It's a least lot of sickness. I did not know that.
- 3:06Now. My story goes back to the seventy seven season and the seventy
- 3:09eighth Super Bowl where the Cowboys beat the Broncos. I chose the Cowboys because
- 3:14I liked the star and the helmet. That's why I chose. And I've
- 3:15been an obsessive fan ever since. I have been an obsessive fan since the
- 3:22nineteen seventies. So the truth is, so my dad was a Browns fan,
- 3:27and that made my older brother naturally a Pittsburgh Steelers fan because they didn't
- 3:31want to like the same team, so they wanted to a post each other.
- 3:34And then I had to pick a different team, and the Steelers and
- 3:37the Cowboys. The battles from the seventies were epic, so I picked the
- 3:39Cowboys. You know, Roger Staubach, oh, I can name drop with
- 3:43you, man, oh Man, I'm telling you all the way back to
- 3:46I think seventy I think seventy six was the first. So I was I
- 3:53was three years old, and I remember, you know, just wanting Cowboys
- 3:57gear. So yeah, no, Cowboy nothing changed, nothing, nothing has
- 4:01changed. Guarantee you that for Christmas or Birthdays or whatever, I'm going to
- 4:05get stuff with a star on it or Marshall logo. That's pretty much what
- 4:09I get. Proudly. Yeah, and I do, and I do.
- 4:11And after last Saturday or a Sunday, I should say we're Philadelphia. Yeah,
- 4:15we're definitely. There was a lot of trash talk for that game.
- 4:16We should got Jared page At he's a listener to this show. Yeah,
- 4:21so Joe, Jared, how about them? Cabo? Sorry about that,
- 4:25Jared. Since we are talking sports, I want to I want to talk
- 4:28a little bit about about sports here in the Canal Valley, and I got
- 4:31a couple of things I want to talk to you about as well. But
- 4:33let's talk about what's been going on with the sports complexes and what is the
- 4:36latest with the proposed Capital Sports Complex. So the Capital Sports Complex is moving
- 4:41along, you know, I mentioned this on the news the other day.
- 4:44On a scale of one to ten, the Shawnee Sports Complex as far as
- 4:46design construction, you know, completion was a two out of ten. I
- 4:50mean, we own the property. It was done by one entity. It
- 4:54wasn't that complicated. You know, ZMM did the architecture on it and did
- 4:59a great job. There's so many moving parts with the Capital Sports Complex.
- 5:02It makes it It makes it more difficult. It just makes it more of
- 5:05a challenge. I mean, you've got two different entities, You've got ownership
- 5:10interests with other entities, and it's very complicated. But we're moving through all
- 5:17that. So where we are now, we have a board in place.
- 5:20Obviously, we have the architects in place, we have an owner's rep in
- 5:26place. We put out a request for bids for the banking. Of course,
- 5:30everything you do, you have to put out the bids for I suspect
- 5:33we'll receive a lot of bids, and then we're going to look at additional
- 5:39financing, whether we can get some more support from the US Senators Center.
- 5:44Manson's already pledged significant support, and I think we'll be able to get even
- 5:47some more, and then whatever's left over the city in the county will split
- 5:51fifty to fifty. So I think we're going to have Over the next year,
- 5:56the architects will complete the drawings and hopefully we'll put a shovel in the
- 6:00ground about a year from now, talk about the year that was twenty twenty
- 6:04three as far as sports in general in the Kanal Valley out at Shawnee or
- 6:09different places. Let's kind of put a little bow on that, so to
- 6:13speak about what kind of year it was. You know, the Shawne Sports
- 6:16Complex had an amazing year. You know, we've got USU soccer which is
- 6:21coming in and brought in about between thirty and forty million dollars in economic impact.
- 6:27You know, when those tournaments come to town, you see it.
- 6:30You see it within a three hour radius of the complex, and quite frank
- 6:34that the tournaments are so big that Shawnee can't handle them. Alert you have
- 6:38to. You know, our friends in Barbersville and they've done some amazing upgrades.
- 6:42I've got Chris Tatum. He's going to do the mayor Monday second,
- 6:44but next week. Chris is doing great things down there. Chris, he
- 6:46really is, and he gets it. He gets it. So they invested
- 6:49in some turf fields and Barbersville and so they're really good partners. We team
- 6:54up together, particularly on the larger tournaments you're talking about, you know,
- 6:57two and fifty teen tournaments. So it's it's bringing in a lot of money.
- 7:01It's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. You know, the locals
- 7:04can play there during the week, well, you can practice, we can
- 7:06have games, and not just not just soccer. I mean we had a
- 7:10big football tournament there last week, brought in you know, thousands of people.
- 7:14So it's it's it's good. Everything's going very well down there. And
- 7:16I think sports in general, particularly travel sports, Kanawa County was uh was
- 7:25very smart to get in the game. The city of Charleston is very smart
- 7:29to get in the game because it brings in a lot of money. You
- 7:32know, anytime you can bring Ohio and North Carolina and Virginia dollars in town,
- 7:38you want to do that. People are spending their money here. They're
- 7:40getting the hotel rooms and buying gas and eating at the restaurants and all.
- 7:44You gotta just go down and ask the restaurant owners, you know, during
- 7:46a tournament, you know, how was it, And I will tell you
- 7:47that that overwhelming. They will say we had record weekends. You know when
- 7:51we have it when we have tournaments. So that's good, that's good for
- 7:55the economy. And indeed, indeed it is Knah Knaechmission Benceulang goes here to
- 7:59the Dave Allenhill on five eighty line. Brought to you impart by your local

- 8:18Then you wanted to talk about VOAD, that is the West Virginia Voluntary
- 8:20Organizations active in disaster. What is a story there? So you know there
- 8:24was a lot going on with VOAD over the last few weeks and the Commission
- 8:30we had awarded fifty thousand dollars to VOEAD to fixed bridges in the Upper Canal
- 8:33Valley after the flood. You know, VOAD was was instrumental in helping the
- 8:37folks up there. We had awarded fifty grand in in bridge repair because you
- 8:43have a lot of and I'm not talking about like federal bridges or state owned
- 8:46bridges. We're talking about these private bridges that people have that cross creeks and
- 8:50those get washed out, and quite frankly, people can't get to their home.
- 8:52So we had set aside fifty thousand to do that. Voe had to
- 8:58reach out to us about using that money for a different purpose, and we
- 9:03simply inquired, well, what purpose do you want to use it for?
- 9:05I mean, as long as it's for flood victims, I quite frankly,
- 9:07I don't care. As long as it goes to people of Upper Kanav Valley,
- 9:11the flood victims, it wouldn't matter. But they wouldn't respond. They
- 9:13said, well, we're you know, we're not going to tell you.
- 9:16I said, I, why don't you come in in a public meeting and
- 9:18tell us? And then I believe from their standpoint, they believe that a
- 9:22miscommunication occurred. But you know, what we heard, and apparently what the
- 9:26governor's office heard was there was an active federal investigation. So we were reluctant
- 9:31to leave that fifty thousand dollars out there since they couldn't come in and explain
- 9:37it in a public meeting. And I had conversation with Boaz lawyers. After
- 9:39the vote, I mean, the Commission voted unanimously to rescind the letter of
- 9:45intent awarding the fifty thousand dollars for good reasons. I mean, can you
- 9:48imagine we gave fifty thousand dollars and then all of a sudden, there's an
- 9:52issue with regard to federal investigation or some indictment, and you know, that
- 9:56money is gone. That would be hard to explain. Probably have me on
- 10:00this program and be asking for some answers which I probably could not provide.
- 10:03Oh yeah, sure. So what we did was we broke the letter of
- 10:07intent. Now that is not to say that we're walking away from flood victims.
- 10:11I mean, if there's things that people need, we're going to do
- 10:16it. But just that specific issue, you know, it raised some red
- 10:20flags that they wouldn't come into a public meeting and tell us what they wanted.
- 10:22Now, they didn't have any trouble going on media. I mean they
- 10:26were on TV, and they were on radio, and they you know,
- 10:28did interviews, but for some reason they wouldn't come in and talk to the
- 10:31commission. So you know, I stand by my decision. I stand by
- 10:33the motion that I made to revoke that fifty thousand. I did talk to
- 10:37VO as lawyer, a lawyer that I respect and trust, and he assured
- 10:41me that there's no active investigation. So I hope that's true, and I
- 10:45hope we can get these things ironed out. But just based on the information
- 10:48that we had at the time, we made the right decision. I want
- 10:52to ask you about this, and I know there's not a whole lot that
- 10:54you can probably say at this point, but we had been told that you
- 11:00know, this investigation continues into one of your fellow commissioners, Kent Carper,
- 11:05and grand jury is meeting. There have been media reports that said that there
- 11:11could be some some news break in that aspect. In that regard, as
- 11:16it pertains to Commissioner Carper, everybody's innocentil proven guilty, we do know that,
- 11:20but are some pretty serious allegations. Is there anything that you know of
- 11:24that you can say at this point, Well, honestly, not much.
- 11:28You know, a grand jury is very different than a typical jury. A
- 11:33grand jury just sits and here's evidence from one side, the prosecutor, for
- 11:37instance, they'll call witness or their present documents, and then the grand jury
- 11:41determines whether or not there's an indictment should be issued. And again, I
- 11:45don't practice criminal law, So you know, I'm just speaking based upon probably
- 11:50amateurish knowledge if anything else. But I do practice civil law, and I
- 11:52can tell you what a regular jury does, which is where you hear from
- 11:56both sides. So I do know that there's a grand jury investigate. I
- 12:00do know that one or more County employees were subpoened to testify in a grand
- 12:05jury. I do not know the status of the grand jury investigation, whether
- 12:11it has concluded, whether it will continue. I have no idea. In
- 12:13fact, probably the information I'm getting, more than anywhere else, is just
- 12:18from the media because they were staked out in front of the courthouse yesterday and
- 12:20maybe even the day before. So I don't have a lot of information on
- 12:24it. Grand jury proceedings unlike like a civil jury, they're confidential, you
- 12:30know, so you can't the media can't go in and watch. Witnesses aren't
- 12:33allowed or should not talk about what they testified to in a grand jury.
- 12:39Now I guess who is subpoened depending on certain things. You know whether or
- 12:45not that is public information. But otherwise there's just not a lot you can
- 12:50find out until there is or is not an indictment, and then I guess
- 12:56the indictment is released or unsealed or released. But at this point, I
- 13:03am not aware of any indictment. I'm not aware of any anything other than
- 13:07a grand jury investigation. Can I ask if I if you were subpoena or
- 13:11is that something you'd rather not say or or were you or I'll let you
- 13:15have that over you or Commission Wheeler for that matter. Well, you know,
- 13:18there was a news report on a couple of the subpoenas that were issued.
- 13:24Whether or not someone is subpoena, I don't know if that's confidential or
- 13:26not, okay, but but I will tell you that. You know,
- 13:30if I get a subpoena to testify, you know, it's not like I'm
- 13:33just gonna throw it in the trash and not go. You would know better
- 13:37than that, And well, that would be that would be foolish. Yeah,
- 13:39that would be very foolish. So you know, at some point we'll
- 13:43see. But you know, right now, I don't know the status of
- 13:48of what's going on. I know that there was something, there was a
- 13:50there was a the grand jury did convene at least yesterday, because I know
- 13:56that some of at least one or perhaps more of our employees were we're over
- 14:00there yesterday, but I don't know what they said, don't know what questions
- 14:03were asked, anything like that. So you know, basically I can just
- 14:05say that, yeah, there's something going on, but I don't know what
- 14:09it is. Okay, nine to twenty one. I mean I got a
- 14:11couple test before we let you go Texas. Not sure who gets the credit,
- 14:13but nice to see new hotels going into Dunbar in the shuttered Best America
- 14:18space. Yeah, yeah, no that anytime we can get new hotels,
- 14:22that's great. I mean we definitely need them. And one of the things
- 14:24that we have to show, like if we're bidding a big tournament, is
- 14:28our capacity, our hotel capacity, how many rooms we have. And that
- 14:33has been a real problem for us over the years. When we're bidding on
- 14:37a two hundred and fifty teen tournament and we don't have the hotel capacity and
- 14:43people have to stay an hour and a half away. Yeah, you know,
- 14:45they really get upset about the count surely. So you know, it's
- 14:48great. The more hotels that we get, the better off we're going to
- 14:50be. And not just for sports tourism. I mean we need them for
- 14:52business. We need them for you know, various things, so people can
- 14:56come in and stay here. But yeah, the more hotel els the better.
- 15:01For sure, Texas Selango for you a senate, he needs to run.
- 15:07I think I I think I I think I did that once on the
- 15:11Governor's Race. I watched that story. I'm not gonna watch that movie again.
- 15:15Man, Oh, come on, now, you're not done yet.
- 15:16You're not done yet. No, you know that's it's funny. Even though
- 15:22Jim Justice beat me like a rented mule, it was. It was fun.
- 15:26I had a really good time. I mean it was. It's not
- 15:28something I regret for sure, getting out and seeing different parts of the state
- 15:33quite frankly, parts that I had not seen before, meeting people, uh
- 15:37that I'm still in touch with now. You know, it's now been you
- 15:39know, a couple of years. I'm still in touch with him now.
- 15:41It's a It was really a good experience for me. Now, my family
- 15:46didn't like it so much, but I had a great time. Have Fiel
- 15:52and you're gonna run it again for something that just speculations on my part.
- 15:54I think I don't think you're I don't think you're gonna retire as Knaw ant
- 15:58Commissioner. I think you'll be running for something something. I'm enjoying the commission,
- 16:00I really do, but it's one day at a time. We got
- 16:03we got a good crew over there, we got great And you're a young
- 16:04guy too, am I though. Yeah, well you're younger than I am.
- 16:07So all right, Texas, Why is the knawk Heady commission contemplate to
- 16:11give you money to voe AD when their former cfo embezzled eight hundred and seventy
- 16:15thousand dollars in federal and state money. No money to voe AD without external
- 16:18audits and controls. Yeah, and I know there are audits going on right
- 16:22now, but no, I appreciate that text. That's something that we looked
- 16:26into, and that's why we did not hand the money over to them.
- 16:30It was actually a letter of intent, and any check written on the letter
- 16:33of intent would come from us, and so it would be used for a
- 16:36proper purpose. And that's why it kind of raised a red flag when they
- 16:38wanted to change, you know, the intent of the fifty thousand dollars grant,
- 16:45and that's why we wanted to come in and explain it in public.
- 16:47Keep in mind, every dollar we award. And this is not just this
- 16:51is not just some you know, this is true. And every dollar we
- 16:53award is done in a public meeting, absolute transparency. Doesn't matter what it
- 16:59is, it's all it's all on our agenda, and it's all done in
- 17:00public. There's no back room meetings, you know, awarding money, nothing
- 17:04like that. It's all done in public meaning. And so when we gave
- 17:07voe ad the fifty grand for bridges in the flooded areas of the upperknov Valley,
- 17:14we wanted to make sure that if it was changed, if the intent
- 17:15was changed, it was also done in a public meaning, because imagine again,
- 17:19what would happen if we went in the back room and changed that and
- 17:22then all of a sudden the money disappeared. So that's what raised the red
- 17:26flag. And again I am aware of voad's previous issue. I know that
- 17:33there's some investigation into one of its executives or CFO or whoever it may be.
- 17:41But you also got to help the people when there's a flood, you
- 17:45know, so you're kind of in a tight spot. You got to make
- 17:48sure you help people, but you also got to keep in mind that there
- 17:52was that issue that they had, and so that's why we did a letter
- 17:56of intent as opposed to just writing them a check for fifty grand. Okay,
- 18:00Kennan County Commissioner Ben Selango, It's always a pleasure to have you on
- 18:02the show. Go Cowboys, Hey go Cowboys. Let's go and hope you

- 18:52promise we'll let you go? Well, there are complications. You nailed that.
- 18:56I mean, that's and that's one of the moving parts that I was

- 23:23Raekwon Battle story unfolding the court. Greg Carey with a lead story this morning
- 23:27at wv Metronews dot com. In Wheeling. Yesterday, District Judge John Preston
- 23:32Bailey issued a fourteen day temporary restraining order against the NC DOUBLEA, allowing undergraduate
- 23:37athletes in college that have transferred multiple times be allowed to play immediately. Now
- 23:45the overall case is listed as Ohio versus the NC DOUBLEA. Seven attorneys general
- 23:51are involved in the case, including our own Attorney General, Patrick Morrissey.
- 23:56Now there's next going to be a hearing on the straining order on December twenty
- 24:02seventh in Wheeling, where, according to Greg Carey's story again listen to website,
- 24:07a more permanent ruling is expected at that time. Now, ray Kwon
- 24:11Battle is a fifth year basketball player for WVU and hasn't gotten to play yet
- 24:15this season. The opposition in the case is being led by Charleston based attorney
- 24:21Ben Bailey, who is fighting on behalf of the NCAA. Now why is
- 24:25all this important to this show? Well, because, as I said earlier,
- 24:30there are several attorneys general involved in this case, including our own Patrick
- 24:36Morrissey, who also is a candidate for governor. So in a week where
- 24:41Secretary of States and goubernatorial candidate Mac Warner seems to be getting all the headlines,
- 24:48now the front runner in the race, Attorney General Patrick Morrissey, is
- 24:52getting so Now, to be fair, I mean, Patrick Morrissey's worked on
- 24:56cases like this in the past, but it can't hurt. It's what we
- 24:57call earned media, and Patrick Morrissey has never been one who had a hard
- 25:03time finding a camera or finding a way to make it onto the front pages
- 25:07or on the air somewhere, including on this show and others. And while
- 25:12I'm talking about goubernatorial candidates, want to mention this, one week from the
- 25:15day, delegate and republic candidate for governor more Capito will be on the show.
- 25:21So Patrick Morrissey is getting getting some airtime right now on this and again
- 25:26in a week where everything's been about Mac Warner since the gubernatorial discussion debate.
- 25:33Whatever you want to call it last Thursday Night in Morgantown. So now I
- 25:38guess the other two More Capito and Chris Miller are going to have to find
- 25:44a way to get there their time out there. But Dave Alan showing five

- 31:30I'm a little cold. It's a lott cold in here. Yeah, we're
- 31:33we're suffering from a lack of heats on this part of the building. Not
- 31:37only here, but the parts are ordered well. Unfortunately, I got quite
- 31:41used to not having heat there for a while going about. Should be right
- 31:45at home in here. I feel right at home build like the West Side.
- 31:49Although most of most of us over there have been reconnected and have our
- 31:53appliance is fixed by now ex there are unfortunately still a few few folks who
- 31:59have not been made fully whole yet, but hopefully that's coming soon. I
- 32:02wanted to talk about interims. Of course, they were held this past week,
- 32:06wrapped up, I guess on Tuesday, is that right? The highlight,
- 32:08I guess from a media perspective would be the heads of Mountaineer Gas and
- 32:14West Virginian American Water speaking in front of the committee. Now I understand and
- 32:19correct me if I'm wrong. You were not part of the committee, but
- 32:21you were allowed to take part in it because of the situation, because you
- 32:23were one of the ones affected. Right, Well, I was one of
- 32:25the ones affected, I think. I think the only member of the legislature
- 32:30who who was affected by it, I think. But either way, I
- 32:34was the one that called for the hearing, right and in doing so,
- 32:36I called the the respective chairs of the of the Joint Committee so you have
- 32:40a house chair and a Senate chair, you know house chairs Daniel Lynnville Senate
- 32:45Senate chairs Ben Queen from up in Clarksburg. I got in touch with them
- 32:49before I did it. It wasn't, you know, blind siding anybody,
- 32:51because I really wanted to have the hearing and they were cooperative. I really
- 32:54appreciate that. And then the chair who was presiding on that day was Senator
- 33:00Queen, recognized me first for some for for some questions, and what I
- 33:05was really, you know, pleasantly surprised by is that delegates and senators from
- 33:09all over the state were very interested and had some great questions, and there
- 33:14were it wasn't just me asking questions as a resident of the West Side,
- 33:16people from all over the state because they know it can happen where they live
- 33:20as well where we have, you know, unfortunately very old infrastructure and some
- 33:24issues with with utilities. Let's face it. Were you satisfied with the answers
- 33:30that you got from Mountaineer Gas and what's Rugian American water? No, not
- 33:35at all. But we did get some good answers. But I didn't expect
- 33:37any major admissions of guilty when they're you know, there's a class action suit
- 33:42and they were most likely suing each other. But it was we did get
- 33:45a lot of information. It was very informative. It was very productive.
- 33:50You know about the age of the of the pipes, you know, the
- 33:53water the water main, which was they said it was both a transmission and
- 33:59a distribute line, so high pressure. I mean that the pressure on that
- 34:04on a on a transmission line is uh is is very strong and of course
- 34:08it takes something like that to penetrate a gas line. Of course, they
- 34:10weren't admitting to that. They said that well that there could have all you
- 34:14know, they were there was no admission, right, yeah, for sure.
- 34:17Uh And it's still don't know exactly how something like that could have happened.
- 34:22We didn't get to the bottom of that. I think we will eventually,
- 34:24but we did get you know, the age of the of the pipes,
- 34:27the distance they were very close to each other. Of course, you
- 34:30know, one thing that that we knew, the residents of the West Side
- 34:35knew about, but it was important to have. You know, Mountaineer Gas
- 34:38they say that they have no public alert system in place. To me,
- 34:43that's just I mean, that's ridiculous. I mean they they have our phone
- 34:46numbers, they have our email addasses. There's a way to contact. It's
- 34:50not hard to do. Everybody everything. Everybody. Everybody texts pretty much now,
- 34:53ninety nine point nine percent of the population. As I mentioned on the
- 34:57show. Even where I'm from in southern West Virginia, we had a texting
- 35:00service ten years ago. It's not hard to do. I can tell you
- 35:04his chair of the Democratic Party or any both political parties do it. You
- 35:07get texts, You get unwanted text messages all the time from different groups.
- 35:12It's not hard to do. Uh, to send out a text blast,
- 35:16you know who the customers are that were affected, That would have been that
- 35:21would have gone a long way, just to let people know what was going
- 35:22on. Is that something where communication is always better, Mike? Is that
- 35:25something that the legislature can can try to get done to? I mean,
- 35:30is there a way that you can certainly hope that you can mandate. I'm
- 35:32going to try because I mean, and I would think that's by a party,
- 35:36So I mean, I can't imagine anybody would fight that because I mean,
- 35:37and with all due respect to Mountaine your gas they said that the way
- 35:42that they notify their customers is going door to door, and there were so
- 35:45many that they haven't even gotten yet because I don't know where they not everybody's
- 35:49home, all the people work during the day. It's hard. It's hard
- 35:52to get in touch of people that way. It seems a lot more efficient
- 35:55to have a text blast or an email email sent out, or even robo
- 36:00calls or there are a lot of different ways in this day and age to
- 36:01communicate people with people rather than going toward to door. So yeah, I
- 36:06do believe that's something the legislature can and should do. I'm going to draft
- 36:10the legislation. We do require that of water utilities. I mean, you
- 36:15know, if there's unfortunately we have a lot of boiled water advisories in this
- 36:19state, and when that happens, whether it's a private corporation like West Virginia
- 36:23American Water or a publicly owned utility like it should be, they are required
- 36:29either way. They're required to I mean email you, text you, call
- 36:32you. I think they go to or to door as well. They are
- 36:36required to let people know when there's a boiled water advisory. So the same
- 36:39should be not just of the gas company, but of all utilities. They
- 36:43should I mean, you would think that they would be required to have a
- 36:45public alert system in place. Well, apparently they're not, but hopefully they
- 36:51will be. Texas asked Mike why the heads of the water company and the
- 36:53gas company weren't sworn in. I you know, that's a very good question.
- 36:59I was hoping they would be sworn and apparently it's only on the House
- 37:01side during House committee meetings we swear in witnesses. The presiding chair was a
- 37:07Senator and I asked them about it afterwards, why didn't you swear them in?
- 37:10And he said, we don't do that on the Senate side. Now,
- 37:14it was a joint committee, so there were delegates and senators present,
- 37:16but the presiding chair was Senator Queen and he did not swear them in.
- 37:22But I mean, you don't really know why other than we just don't do
- 37:24that. The Senate doesn't swear in witness the House does, right, Mike.
- 37:30We've we spent a lot of time on this show and on talk Line
- 37:35and other shows too, talking about the comments made last week as part of
- 37:37the gubernatorial debate moderated by Hoppy Kerchival from our studios at Morgantown. The comments
- 37:42coming from Secretary of State Republican candidate for governor Mac Warner saying that the twenty
- 37:46twenty presidential election was not only stolen, but stolen in some sort of conspiracy
- 37:52involving the CIA, big Tech and others. I had Senator or I'm sorry,
- 37:58I had Secretary Warner on the show yesterday that I went on talk Line
- 38:00with Dave Wilson to talk about it yesterday. Your thoughts on the whole thing,
- 38:05Well, I think it's really his statements are unfounded and in my opinion,
- 38:09quite frankly unhinged, and you know, to blame the CIA and the
- 38:15FBI for some sort of you know, Alex Jones style conspiracy theory. Sorry,
- 38:23but that's what it sounded like. All I could think of is the
- 38:29one hundred and forty stars on the wall at I believe in Langley, at
- 38:32the CIA headquarters. No stars symbolize men and women who gave their life in
- 38:38service to this country, who work for that agency, and I think it's
- 38:43a disservice to their memory. Quite frankly, I think he did himself a
- 38:45great disservice, Secretary Warner did by repeating this conspiracy theory that's completely unfounded.
- 38:53And there's absolutely no evidence to back that up from a marketing standpoint, though
- 38:59it's got him a lot of attention of last week. Well, if that's
- 39:01all he's he's trying to do, and I'm not saying that's what he tried,
- 39:05trying to make himself relevant in a in a race where I'm not sure.
- 39:08I don't I haven't checked the Republican polling lately, but I imagine that
- 39:12most polls have had him in, have him in third and third as well.
- 39:16It's an attempt. I mean, you know, he's a good guy.
- 39:19I like him, but I think it's just a it's an attempt for
- 39:21relevancy in a race that he's not gaining a whole lot of traction yet.
- 39:24Sorry, that's how I feel. I don't think there's any evidence to back
- 39:30up his point at all, And as the chief election officer of the state,
- 39:32I think it's really dangerous rhetoric coming from him. Well, and I
- 39:36said this on the show, and we'll move on. You know, I
- 39:37like Mac Warner. I certainly respect his military career and his accomplishes thereof,
- 39:44and I worked for him for four years, who's a great boss, and
- 39:46I consider him to be a great friend. I have a picture of the
- 39:49two of us hanging above my desk upstairs. But it's just one of the
- 39:52things. I just you don't always agree with your boss, or even your
- 39:55former boss. I just can't go along with it myself. And I'm hearing
- 40:00more and more from a lot of Republicans people that have reached out to me.
- 40:05Not anonymous tax like I get to the show, but people that have
- 40:07reached out to me saying I can't, I can't go there, and publicly,
- 40:13they say it out loud and public no, and that they should maybe
- 40:16that would keep it from happening. No. And that's a major issue that
- 40:19I have with a lot of people in the Republican party. Take Trump for
- 40:22example. I know I know a lot of people that on the Republican side
- 40:30that do not support Donald Trump and haven't mainly after January sixth, but will
- 40:37not say anything publicly. And as a Republican, who's somebody who goes on
- 40:43the show and says daily that I am not a Trump supporter. I was
- 40:46at one time, I'm not anymore. If you want to get rid of
- 40:52Trump, the Republicans have got to stand up and they've got to put somebody
- 40:54else on there. But anyway, that's another story for that time. What's
- 40:58the quote about good people being silent? Uh? It only takes for evil
- 41:04to uh to succeed, is for good men to do nothing. Yeah,
- 41:07something like that. I don't know who said that. Well, well credited
- 41:09Jeff Patty, our producer said that. That's thank you, Jeff. That's
- 41:12what I appreciate it. It'll be wise all right. Let me see.
- 41:14I got a text here for you. It says, uh, dear Dave,
- 41:17I saw Mike on the news last night, looking good, dude.
- 41:22Thanks, I was on the news last night. Apparently you weren't. Apparently
- 41:25apparently I was on the news last night too. Somebody just sent me that
- 41:29uh, lead paint chip cut. I got a texture that's convinced that Mac
- 41:34Warner eats led paint. I never saw that one. I just got a
- 41:37text and somebody corrected me. He said, because I'm not in the Senate,
- 41:40I don't participate in Senate hearings when it's during the session. I was
- 41:45just corrected that the Senate does swear people in. So I don't know.
- 41:47I can't answer the question why the why the chairman didn't swear in the UH
- 41:52the president of West Virginia American. When I asked, I was told that
- 41:57they didn't. Apparently I'm wrong either way. I don't. I mean,
- 42:00there were a lot of questions that weren't answered, and I believe they will
- 42:05be. It'll all come out in the wash eventually. But we did get
- 42:07some good technical answers about the you know, the material the pipe, the
- 42:12diameter of the pipe, weren't how close they were together. There was a
- 42:15lot of information there and it wasn't And I talked about a little bit earlier.
- 42:17It was earlier this week. By standards of infrastructure and pipes, they
- 42:23really weren't that old. I mean, those were gas pipes pretty old.
- 42:28But one of them was it the water of the gas that was just put
- 42:30in in like the late eighties, and the water pipe was from eighty seven.
- 42:34The gas pipe was from nineteen seventeen. Okay, all right, and
- 42:37however a gas pipe, but they did again that's very old. But gas
- 42:42pipes are low pressure pipes. It's just gas. It's not high pressure water
- 42:45going through it. At least it's not supposed to be. I guess it
- 42:47was, but a low pressure gas pipes. I don't think it's that uncommon
- 42:52to have gas pipes that old. Okay, tex says, this is the
- 42:54Texas stard Ready mack Warner cried about social media companies putting their fingers on the
- 42:58scale of elections. Yet he doesn't say anything about conservative mega donors doing the
- 43:02same. But Republicans didn't have double standards, they wouldn't have any standards at
- 43:06all. Oh, let's talk about conservative mega donors. Actually some of the
- 43:09donors aren't all that conservative. True, all right, But you know recently
- 43:14Senator Carnes, you know our dear friend, Senator Carnes. He was on
- 43:17the shows. He've been on this show once. He should have him back
- 43:22once. He's very interesting. Anyway, he was kicked out of the Republican
- 43:28Caucus, and apparently what it was for was he was accused of out and
- 43:34he's claiming he didn't do it, but he was accused of sharing a list
- 43:37of donors at the event the Senate Republicans held up at Edgewood this past Saturday.
- 43:44That was in the What we're hearing was, and it's been been really
- 43:49common knowledge around the Capitol for a while. There was ten thousand dollars to
- 43:52get to get in front of the caucus ten thousand dollars apiece to sponsor this
- 43:55event, and it's kind of implied lobbyists that if they don't pony up,
- 44:01they're gonna have a harder time getting things done. I just think that that's
- 44:06that's not the way government's supposed to work here in America. Our government's not
- 44:09supposed to be for sale. You know. I know a lot of folks
- 44:14who who need help, They need their representatives to occasionally to help improve their
- 44:20lives address issues. But you know what, they don't have ten thousand dollars
- 44:22to put into Craig Blair's caucus fund. So unfortunately, they're gonna have less
- 44:29of a voice at the Capitol. So yeah, they kicked out. They
- 44:32kicked out Carns for I guess allegedly he was accused of spilling the beans about
- 44:37this fundraiser that was ten thousand dollars apiece. But nobody's really addressing the real
- 44:43issue, and that's just paid a play scheme that's going on at the Capitol
- 44:46and has been for quite some time. But I mean, it's a honest
- 44:49but it's a private fundraiser. I mean, do Democrats not do similar things.
- 44:55You know, politicians have fundraisers. Correct, Different committees and parties have
- 45:01fundraisers, but it's not implied that, you know, it just aimed at
- 45:07lobbyist. If you want to get in front of the caucus, you got
- 45:09to give the max contribution, which is ten thousand dollars to that committee.
- 45:14No, that's not the way it's supposed to work. Okay, all right,
- 45:17think we have a phone call. We'll take this and then we'll go
- 45:21to break. Jim, you're on with Mike and Dave. Go ahead,
- 45:23Hello, Dave, Hello, Mike. Hey, Jim's good to hear you.
- 45:29Well. Just sitting on the front seat on the TV on that committee
- 45:34thing, I think that was the best thing that ever happened because you were
- 45:38right there in the midst of it. You knew what was going on and
- 45:43everything like that. So they weren't able to disregard the questions that were being
- 45:51asked and they had to give some answers. Okay, all right, Jim,
- 45:54I appreciate I appreciate you calling us up this one. I have a
- 45:58hard time hearing in this Senate chamber for some reason, the acoustics in there.
- 46:01Maybe I'm just not used to it too many years of playing that guitar.
- 46:04I don't know what it is, but I can't hear very well in
- 46:07the Senate chambers. So yeah, if I want to really hear what's going
- 46:09on, I got to sit up front, all right, Texas day,
- 46:13politicians should stay out of our sports. Just look at what's happened to our
- 46:15local sports divide in our communities and colleges. Pain players, Texas. Mac
- 46:22Warner is all right and would have used executive power. They are Republican or
- 46:24I'm sorry, there are Republicans that know this. Tell everyone publicly, Texas.
- 46:29If Pushkin playing Christmas? Is Pushkin playing Christmas music this year? If
- 46:32so? Could he play Frosty the Snowman. I know the last time he
- 46:36said it wasn't a Christmas song. However, I recently discovered it was co
- 46:39written by Jack Rollins, who was raised and is buried in Kaiser, West
- 46:43Virginia. Okay, I think that he wrote some other songs as well.
- 46:45But you know what I will. Okay, we got a request. It
- 46:49is enough time to learn it. You're on Frosty the Snowman. Wait a
- 46:52second, am I doing a Christmas and we're going to talk about that,
- 46:54but we got to take this break. We're back after this in the voice

- 48:36all the great details? Five away from ten. Mike Pushkin is here running
- 48:42short on time, Texas. The Republicans learned that pay to play scheme for
- 48:45the eighty years that the Democrats ran the store. Michael, Well, let
- 48:49me say, as long as I've been there, I've not seen the Democrats
- 48:52do anything nearly as egregious as what took place up at Edgewood Country Club this
- 48:58past weekend. Can tell you with great certainty there was nothing in the coffers
- 49:01when I got there. And you know, at this event, I saw
- 49:06the list of sponsors. There were fifty six of them. Apparently they were
- 49:08paying ten grand apiece. I'm not great at math, but that's five hundred
- 49:13and sixty thousand dollars to the Republican Senate Caucus. Now, what's different about
- 49:16this than an average fundraiser. Usually you go to political fundraising, and I'm
- 49:19sure you've been to a few, do a couple people get out talk ten
- 49:22thousand dollars. People will get up and talk about the candidate. The candidate
- 49:25gets up or the committee or whatever happens to be at This was very different,
- 49:30as this had lobbyists who paid to be sponsors get up and make presentations
- 49:34in front of the decision makers. They made the presentations in front of the
- 49:37people who were going to be voting on policy, so their voice is going
- 49:42to be a lot louder and more likely to be heard than average people who
- 49:46can't afford just about everybody you can't afford to pay ten thousand dollars to get
- 49:51in front of their senator. It's disgusting. Texas, Dave. You no
- 49:55longer support Trump, and that's fine, but you seem to have a bit
- 49:58of a problem with those who do and with those who believe there was fraud
- 50:00in twenty twenty, even though you say you don't so much for others.
- 50:04Writer, Freedom of Fought. I like you and Hoppy both, but you
- 50:07both do that. Go back and listen to some old shows. Look,
- 50:09I believe people can support whomever they want. That's a great thing about America.
- 50:14And there's been no proof of any that the election was stolen in twenty
- 50:19twenty. Joe Biden's breath in the United States. I didn't vote for him,
- 50:22and I won't vote for him in twenty twenty twenty four either vote as
- 50:27of any Republican other than Trump. I'll tell you that, and not Ramaswami
- 50:30because I can't go there. Yeah, all right, let me get this
- 50:34in here, A little show preview for next week, the final show before
- 50:37Christmas. We started doing this a couple of week first year I did the
- 50:39show. I guess in twenty twenty. It's one week from tomorrow. We
- 50:44always do it on the final show before Christmas, and that'll be on Friday
- 50:47next week. It is the Jewish Christmas Spectacular, starring Michael, Ari Pushikin
- 50:55and my son. I think you're starring. I'm the co star. You're
- 51:00just now learning that. No, but but you're going to come in as
- 51:04as is tradition. You're going to come in next Friday, bring your guitar.
- 51:07There's going to be other guests in the uh in the studio as well.
- 51:12I'm working on some other guests that are going to come in with you,
- 51:15but hopefully they can sing better than me. And well I'm working on
- 51:17I'm working on some people. You're a fine singer and find guitar player,
- 51:21Michael. But but we are going to do that next Friday. And now
- 51:23you've got a request for Frosty the Snowman. Do you think you can pull
- 51:28I mean, I'm not a musician. Doesn't seem like it should be that
- 51:30difficult. I don't know. I've never tried to play it. All right,
- 51:32we'll see it, man, Hopefully I can learn it. I'll try.
- 51:36I'll have my best. We'll have some other guests in here next week
- 51:38to maybe help you out with that. How's that? Yeah, get some
- 51:42talented folks that cover for me. That's what I always did when I played
- 51:45in bands. I'd always work with people who are a lot more talented than
- 51:47I am. I always like to a kid my friends that are drummers.
- 51:50The old joke was, what do you call a guy? Uh? What
- 51:52do you got that try? What do you call a guy that travels around
- 51:54with a bunch of musicians a drummer? A drummer? All right? Uh?
