Transcript
- 0:00Greetings. Is Danny Filth from Cradle of Filth and we'll be coming to Australia
- 0:05in September. That's your well, my friend, thanks for joining us this
- 0:08evening, Daddy, no problem. So Cradle of Field had just announced the
- 0:13run of shows in Australia this September, starting the twenty fourth in Perth,
- 0:18then going to Adelaide at Melbourne and Sydney and finishing in Brisbane on September twenty
- 0:23ninth. So it's been a while since you been here, mate, We've
- 0:25missed you. Yeah, pre pandemic, wasn't it. Yeah it was fair
- 0:31Well back here there'll be the main trux of the reason. Then we'll let
- 0:36you off on that one. So what's actually changed with Cradle of Field since
- 0:41you were last out here. Well, we've got a different lineup. Well,
- 0:46we've toured everywhere. We toured America during the pandemic actually right on the
- 0:50tail end. Aside from that, we're in the progress of writing a new
- 0:54album. We've already done our Trap with Ed Sheeran as well, although that
- 1:00won't be coming That would be probably coming out in the special edition of the
- 1:03new album. But I can't really talk much more about that, all legalities
- 1:07and what have you. So a new album should be out, well,
- 1:11we should be dropping a new single actually around the time of the Australian tour,
- 1:15maybe a little bit later, but now you mentioned the dates, now
- 1:19that I know that, it should be about the same time, with the
- 1:25outlook for the album being dropped around March next year. So I'm not today.
- 1:30A few days I've had off. I've been running around like a headless
- 1:34chicken or chuck as you said. And yeah, yeah, so that's almost
- 1:41finished. And yeah, just been super busy with the band. Lots of
- 1:45gigs. The album. We started last July and our record company was like,
- 1:49why are you taking so long. It's like, well, because we're
- 1:53on tour. Like we were started the album. We literally went off on
- 1:57tour for two months so and so yeah, so we've been very, very
- 2:01busy. It's still good, very good. And you're going to be coming
- 2:05out with Infected Rain. And we've never actually played in Australia before, mate,
- 2:09But have you ever played with them before? They look like they'd be
- 2:12a pretty good band. No, we haven't played them before. I know
- 2:15their music. They also share the same management company, the Oracle Management,
- 2:20which is managed by Des Fafara and his wife Anastasia. So yeah, no,
- 2:24looking forward to it very much, looking forward to it. Hell yeah.
- 2:29And you're going to be touring on the back of the new live album
- 2:31called Trouble and they're double I Live, so it must must be weird lives
- 2:39double double lives right here Records. It must be a bit weird announcing a
- 2:46live tour to promote a live album and it's not normally. Don't like that,
- 2:51Well, it's all ready to promote a live album. Live album came
- 2:53out last year. We're just touring because we haven't been back to Australia for
- 2:57a while. Yeah, I could say, yeah, how many people want
- 3:00to see it as promoting that. That's all fine, that's good, But
- 3:04yeah, that came out last year. We're hoping to have our new album
- 3:07about out by the time we came to Australia this time. But like I
- 3:13said, we've just been touring too much. And I guess out the line,
- 3:15someone else will been moaning about why something isn't done because we've been touring
- 3:19in Australia. Cradle of Film. I've always had a well deserved reputation of
- 3:25being a fantastic live band made so but for the benefit of people out here
- 3:30in might not have seen it before, Like Runner Runners through like there's a
- 3:31lot of theatrics, there's a lot, there's a lot going on, well
- 3:36there is. Obviously we can't bring a full stage show to Australia because they
- 3:38just you know, be months being shipped over and what have you. So
- 3:44I mean it's yeah, it's it's we're a very live, theatrical, cinematic
- 3:47band that there is a lot going on in our music and on stage as
- 3:53well. We we're quite a laborate costumes, which is a bit self really
- 4:00see as were always playing really boiling places, always asking for and it's just
- 4:04the amount of fans to cool us down. Brilliant, no doubt will be
- 4:10the same, but no, we're looking very much forward to coming back to
- 4:13us so we always have a massively brilliant time there. And obviously it's not
- 4:15a sort of place we can just pop over to at the weekend. You
- 4:19know, it takes a lot to get get us over there, get all
- 4:24the organization everything. So yeah, obviously after after the pandemic, it's been
- 4:29a bit of a strain. Everybody putting their lives back together again, and
- 4:32we're hoping that it'll be more of a regular occurrence after this. Oh yeah,
- 4:38Now, you guys have played a lot of shows obviously, so from
- 4:42your point of view as a band, like, is there anything the crowd
- 4:45can do to make you come off stage and go like fuck, that was
- 4:48a really good show? Well, being supportive is always a good plus.
- 4:54I suppose not booing. That will be in the top of my ne I
- 5:00would think just good crowd reaction. Always like stage You know, when I
- 5:05say stage divers, I totally welcome them, Not like when I was a
- 5:10kid and went to see a bitrey and there's more people on stage than there
- 5:13was in the audience. But yeah, I like a lot of audience reaction,
- 5:18a lot of things going on. Don't mind a circle pit either.
- 5:23We just kind of stop it when it starts. You get a lot of
- 5:26meatheads like punching girls and that that's not cool. But other than that,
- 5:30anything goes. Yeah, very good. Man. So you mentioned a bit
- 5:34about the new album before, man, So how advanced is that re advanced?
- 5:41I think I'll be done singing this Thursday, and then we go off
- 5:45to Jakarta in Indonesia for a one off festival over the weekend, and when
- 5:50we come back we begin the mixing process. So it's alway supposed to be
- 5:54wrapped up, done and dusted by the beginning of June, he says,
- 5:59add on a couple of weeks just for you know, just for those last
- 6:03minute edits, we go wake up at half two in the morning sweating because
- 6:06there's a there's a beat you think you don't like or something somewhere on the
- 6:11album. But no, it should should be done by then, and then
- 6:14we begin, you know, the task of videos, and which is also
- 6:17another task for us because we're going to be shooting them in the Czech Republic
- 6:23on the back end of starting our summer festival run. Is that because like
- 6:27the theme we sort of want to go with the videos matches what's happening in
- 6:30check or does it just work out because that's where you'll be, That's where
- 6:34we'll be. Our band is like almost galactic at the moment, you know,
- 6:42work if you leave off space. So maybe not two people in America,
- 6:47one person in England which is me used to be an English band Scottish
- 6:51bass player, and two people in the Czech Republic and our crew from all
- 6:56around the world, So the Czech Republic is kind of far central meeting hub.
- 7:01Honey, I go, so I'm not the subject of recording albums and
- 7:04stuff, and they're like, are you the sort of person because these days
- 7:08there seems to be a lot of time between an album being finished and when
- 7:11it comes out. So I didn't this sort of man that you put it
- 7:14to bed once you've done, you've done, or do you sort of lay
- 7:16there and, like you say, wake up at four o'clock in the morning
- 7:18and go, I want to go back and change that. Well, it
- 7:21would be yeah, to a certain degree. And then one it's once it's
- 7:26done, it really is done because obviously, you know the studio, the
- 7:30ball gets, you know, wiped. You know, you obviously can revisit
- 7:34it in a complete disaster, but no, no, we we give ourselves
- 7:41a window of about a month just to be sure. But once it's actually
- 7:46done, nailed in the coffin, set off to the RC, then yeah,
- 7:49I'm afraid that's it. I wouldn't. But what about the new music
- 7:56made like it? Is it what people would expect from the band? Or
- 7:59I know you mentioned and experimenty a couple of times on the last album,
- 8:01but is it done further. It's a step a step on from the last
- 8:05record, same production values, same producer, although we always approach it from
- 8:11a different way, so it does sound a lot different. I can't go
- 8:16too much into it because no matter what I say, it's not really gonna
- 8:20justify or do do justice to to the tracks on there. It's very hard
- 8:26to explain essence that's going to embrace vibe wise, vocally, it's it's a
- 8:33it's a bit of every thing. It's it's it's an aggressive record. It's
- 8:35a very catchy record. Yeah, it's just something that's going to really please
- 8:41our fans. We've worked very hard on it and last record was received really
- 8:48well. Existence is a future. I guess this is coming to Australia.
- 8:52It's really are touring that record because we didn't tour that record. So yeah,
- 8:58yeah, answer from that. But like I say, it's not because
- 9:01I'm being told not, you know, keep it calm. We can't talk
- 9:05about the record yet just so it's very difficult talk about something that's got so
- 9:07much so much in it. Yeah, So speaking of that album, last
- 9:13album, Existence is fewd are like when it came out back in twenty twenty
- 9:16one, and it was described in your press release as a wholly different beast
- 9:20to its immediate predecessors. So along those lines, like did fans react to
- 9:26it the way you would hope? Like? Did you your fans sort of
- 9:28do they like to try and pigeonhole you into into one thing? Or do
- 9:31they embrace things that you try? Ah, all kinds of reactions. Really,
- 9:37our fans appreciate what we do. It's usually the bystanders always, you
- 9:41know, picking holes in things. True that through that. So I guess
- 9:46along those lines made like how much growth that? And or evolution? I
- 9:52guess I hate that word, but how much is left in your music?
- 9:54How much further stopid you got? Do you think? Well? I don't
- 10:03know. I mean if you asked me that twenty years ago, probably would
- 10:05have said probably five years. It depends. It's all very We're all down
- 10:09to perspective, isn't it. And I mean we don't run out of ideas.
- 10:13I think there's been a lot of bands that emulated Tradeles, so it
- 10:18might not seem as fresh, but the new record is definitely fresh. And
- 10:22I think us working with someone like ed Shearing as well, was very hasn't
- 10:26been done before. A lot of people went, oh my god, this
- 10:28is awful, but those are the people who got literally zero imagination, and
- 10:35yeah, you know, when it comes out, people would be very surprised
- 10:39how how heavy it is, rather than it's us featuring him. It's not
- 10:46like his vehicle. So I only use that as an example because because people
- 10:54always saying, well, why don't you try pushing the boundaries a bit further
- 10:58here in that? And I think if you, you know, work in
- 11:00one of the world's biggest pop stars and integrating that into a song that includes
- 11:05a blast beat and screams and everything like that, I think it just shows
- 11:09how we can push out and and do different things without breaking I mean,
- 11:16people would like to think that we'd sold out, but without doing that entirely.
- 11:20I mean, yeah, I mean that's it's not a novelty record,
- 11:24it's not a novelty song. But the novelty here is you've got an extreme
- 11:28metal band doing certainly one of the world's biggest artists and not really giving two
- 11:33flying fucks about it either. I've actually really really intrigued a listen to that,
- 11:37But I remember how did that. Was that your idea or was it
- 11:41his idea? Was it a label idea like it? You know, it
- 11:43was a bit both. It was about his and mine and it's just a
- 11:50suggestion that came into fru issue. He lives in the I mean, he
- 11:52lives about maybe twenty miles from where I live as a crow flies, so
- 11:58we live in a live in therea England called Suffolk, the County of Suffolk,
- 12:03And I guess apart from me him the keyboardist of Pink Floyd and the
- 12:13Darkness, there's not a huge amount of bands around here. And also it
- 12:16used to be a fan of Cradle growing up. I was destiny to do
- 12:20his job experience on one of my records, but unfortunately that that fell through.
- 12:24So there was a there was a there was a connection that he just
- 12:30wanted to reignite. Yeah, and I guess looking out for for local artists
- 12:35as well. It's fantastic, Like so many people in your opposition would just
- 12:41be a shamed, embarrass scared to try something like that, but it did
- 12:45show us how comfortable you are in yourself and what you do to be willing
- 12:48to do something like that. It's good. Yeah, Yeah, absolutely very
- 12:52much looking forward to coming to Australia as we always are. We always having
- 12:56a magnificent time there and like I say, it's been been a while,
- 13:01but then you can blame the global pandemic for that. It's very hard to
- 13:07do anything obviously, as everybody's fully aware. Didn't just happen to you,
- 13:11It didn't just happen to me. But yeah, looking very much forward to
- 13:15it. We've got a great support band in the shape of Effective Rain,
- 13:18so it's going to be a magnificent show. We're firing all forms. We'll
- 13:22be coming off the back of a small but tour of some huge summer festivals
- 13:28here in Europe Summer Breeze Back and Hellfest et cetera, et cetera. So
- 13:35yeah, expect an onslaught of music won't be disappointed. Really looking forward to
- 13:41seeing all our Australian fans and friends after such a long time. Fantastic daddy,
- 13:48I've couldn't have said that better myself. Mate. Thanks for your time,
- 13:50brother, and enjoy your break. We'll see you in a couple of
- 13:52months. Yeah, absolutely, you take care
