- 0:07Speaker 1: to hear him anytime. Now back to Mark Simone on
- 0:11Speaker 1: wo or Well well us right now the greatest living DJ,
- 0:17Speaker 1: the radio legend himself, Scott Shannon is with a Scott Shannon,
- 0:21Speaker 1: how you doing?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Coming right at you on Miss Work Monday. We're both
- 0:27Speaker 2: working our tales off today. Yeah, kind of put everything
- 0:33Speaker 2: in perspective. I do have. I've been listening to your
- 0:38Speaker 2: radio show this morning, and I gotta tell you you
- 0:42Speaker 2: and I usually agree, but not this time. My friend,
- 0:46Speaker 2: what that halftime show was a business? It was horrible.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Well, visually it looked good and the moves were good
- 0:55Speaker 1: and the music was bouncy lively.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Let me ask you a question. Yes, back when Prince
- 1:03Speaker 2: did it, when Bruce did it, when Lady Gaga did it,
- 1:07Speaker 2: all the way back to when Up with People did it,
- 1:11Speaker 2: and were all about the music. It was about the
- 1:15Speaker 2: singing to the country, right. Yeah, so you're telling me
- 1:21Speaker 2: it was an entertaining joke, except you didn't know one
- 1:24Speaker 2: word he was singing. Yeah.
- 1:26Speaker 1: But see, here's the problem. Was going to ask you
- 1:31Speaker 1: back then Bruce Springsteen was a mainstream artist that everybody knew.
- 1:35Speaker 1: The music now is so splintered. Can you name anybody
- 1:39Speaker 1: that everybody would know, every demo everybody would know.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Well, the thing that you're missing, I think is the
- 1:48Speaker 2: fact that most people who speak Spanish are big soccer fans.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I think you mentioned that once this morning. Yeah, and
- 1:57Speaker 2: then he goes on and you know, also people forgot
- 2:01Speaker 2: this was also about the two hundred and fifties anniversary
- 2:04Speaker 2: of our country, where our actual most people in America
- 2:10Speaker 2: speak English. God, you know, I'd have nothing against mister Bunny.
- 2:16Speaker 2: I think he's a fine, fine artist. But here's something
- 2:21Speaker 2: for you. When you watch when you turn on one
- 2:23Speaker 2: of the Spanish speaking televisions, do they have an English
- 2:27Speaker 2: show on there? No, I don't think so, Mark, that's
- 2:34Speaker 2: of course not so. How many people do you think
- 2:38Speaker 2: started to watch that? And look, the set was beautiful,
- 2:41Speaker 2: the dancers were great. But I couldn't understand one damn
- 2:45Speaker 2: word he was singing. You don't speak Spanish.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Hey, a lot of today's biggest hits I love. I
- 2:52Speaker 1: can't understand one word to saying either, So oh.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Come on, you can understand, you can understand Taylor Swift
- 2:59Speaker 2: when she's sing.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Yeah, but there's a bunch of songs. I don't know
- 3:02Speaker 1: what all the singing, but they're great and I love
- 3:04Speaker 1: them well.
- 3:06Speaker 2: I you know the other thing people aren't. I don't
- 3:10Speaker 2: know if you've talked about this or you realize it,
- 3:13Speaker 2: but you've got to remember Roger Goodell is very clear
- 3:18Speaker 2: with his plans for his league. He thinks he wants
- 3:24Speaker 2: it to be the International Football League, not the NFL,
- 3:29Speaker 2: not the National Football League. He had a games down
- 3:32Speaker 2: in Mexico, he's spent in London, he's been in Germany.
- 3:36Speaker 2: They're going I think they're doing one in Italy or France,
- 3:39Speaker 2: I think, and I think this was just part of
- 3:42Speaker 2: that big plan.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Yeah, No, you're absolutely right. Hey, Roger Goodell, who's a
- 3:46Speaker 1: very unpleasant, unlikable sort of guy, but the other guy
- 3:50Speaker 1: owners love him because he knows how to make money.
- 3:52Speaker 1: He makes them a ton of money. So you're right,
- 3:55Speaker 1: that's his plan, more international and expanding.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yeah, that and this fits right into his plan. The
- 4:04Speaker 2: obvious thing that should have been done it was they're
- 4:07Speaker 2: forgetting about the you know, I know they had the flyover,
- 4:10Speaker 2: but it's a two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of our
- 4:13Speaker 2: country for God's Eth? Then what do you do for
- 4:16Speaker 2: the halftime show? Yeah? I can't that couldn't take it
- 4:22Speaker 2: all right.
- 4:22Speaker 1: But the good thing was Charlie Pooth I thought was
- 4:25Speaker 1: absolutely brilliancing in the national anthem. Would you agree?
- 4:30Speaker 2: Yeah? I thought he did a great job. Yeah, I did.
- 4:33Speaker 2: There was no doubt about that.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I mean, wardrobe wise, he looked ridiculous. He looked like
- 4:37Speaker 1: Marlon Brando in on the Waterfront with that jacket.
- 4:40Speaker 2: But you know, one of the I don't know, I
- 4:43Speaker 2: don't even know if you saw this, but there was
- 4:45Speaker 2: a high, high high point in the in the proceedings
- 4:51Speaker 2: in the fourth quarters. It's always happened. Some guy ran
- 4:55Speaker 2: across the field and it was funny too because nobody
- 4:59Speaker 2: could catch except a guy in a in a New
- 5:03Speaker 2: England uniform, and he tackled this sob took him down
- 5:07Speaker 2: on the ten yard line.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Well, I actually missed it, I thought later, but I
- 5:12Speaker 1: was actually eating then buffet.
- 5:14Speaker 2: That was pretty cool. Yeah, But and like I said,
- 5:17Speaker 2: I thought the sets were beautiful and Bunny was fine.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I mean, he's a great performer. I just i'd like
- 5:24Speaker 2: sometimes I'd like to hear what there's you know, telep
- 5:26Speaker 2: here singing.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Yeah. But again the problem is Prince was like everybody
- 5:32Speaker 1: knew Prince back then. There's no mainstream singers anymore that
- 5:35Speaker 1: everybody knows. There's no such thing, even our You take
- 5:38Speaker 1: our radio stations here on this floor. You got Z
- 5:40Speaker 1: one hundred over there, which you created. You got Power
- 5:43Speaker 1: one O five, you got Q one O four. They
- 5:45Speaker 1: all played different artists. There's no artists that could get
- 5:47Speaker 1: played on all of our stations.
- 5:50Speaker 2: You know what, did you get a chance to pay
- 5:53Speaker 2: much attention to the commercials?
- 5:55Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 5:57Speaker 2: I thought there was some great commercials. This was really
- 5:59Speaker 2: a battery year for commercials. You had that you had
- 6:04Speaker 2: that one was it? You had bon Jovi in there,
- 6:08Speaker 2: Stop living on a prayer? Yeah, you had the great
- 6:11Speaker 2: Budweiser commercials were the best they've had in a long time. Uh.
- 6:16Speaker 2: That Clydesdale horse, that little baby and the baby eagle,
- 6:20Speaker 2: Oh that thing is strong. And then what about the
- 6:24Speaker 2: Goodwill Duncan commercial.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Jim Stiller.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Jennifer Addison, Tom Brady, they are all in that thing.
- 6:33Speaker 1: The only problem is nowadays you watch so much video
- 6:36Speaker 1: ai unbelievable special effects video all kinds of amazing videos
- 6:39Speaker 1: all day long on TikTok as. After all that all
- 6:43Speaker 1: day and night, these commercials aren't so dazzling anymore. We're
- 6:46Speaker 1: used to it too much.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Yeah, but I thought these were very entertained. There were
- 6:52Speaker 2: a couple of them. There were pretty good commercials, but
- 6:54Speaker 2: I couldn't figure out what the product was. That's a
- 6:58Speaker 2: problem when you spend that kind of money into Oh
- 7:00Speaker 2: what did you see the talking toilet scene? Yeah, so, yeah,
- 7:05Speaker 2: that was pretty funny.
- 7:06Speaker 1: They were pretty good. Uh, the game itself not very good.
- 7:10Speaker 1: The New England got to the Super Bowl a couple
- 7:12Speaker 1: of years too early. They're not ready for this yet.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Yeah, but that that defense from Seattle was they were incredible.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Oh that was that was an amazing game. I mean, yeah,
- 7:24Speaker 2: there wasn't much action, I agree, but you know it was.
- 7:29Speaker 2: It was good if you were a big fan. Yeah,
- 7:31Speaker 2: if you were a fan of of of Seattle. Now
- 7:36Speaker 2: what about I know, not everybody's kicked in yet for
- 7:40Speaker 2: the Winter Olympics, but a Lindsey von thing was kind
- 7:44Speaker 2: of crazy. Yeah, she's forty one years old, she's already
- 7:49Speaker 2: ruptured her a c a a week ago, and then
- 7:53Speaker 2: she's going to put a bracelet. I'm ready, I'm all set,
- 7:56Speaker 2: I'll be fine. That had that had disaster and all over,
- 8:00Speaker 2: I thought. And then she she what she hit her
- 8:04Speaker 2: shoulder too, didn't she on one of those passer by
- 8:07Speaker 2: things you skate. I'm out of skier, so I don't
- 8:09Speaker 2: know what I'm talking about. And then they had to
- 8:12Speaker 2: rush her off, and I think she broke her leg
- 8:14Speaker 2: or something.
- 8:14Speaker 1: You know. And I can't figure ou why anybody would
- 8:18Speaker 1: be a skier. It seems like the dumbest sport in
- 8:20Speaker 1: the world. You pay money, go somewhere where it's colder
- 8:22Speaker 1: than where you are, you have to wear all those contraptions.
- 8:25Speaker 2: It's well, it worked all right, worked out all right
- 8:28Speaker 2: for Sonny Bono, didn't it.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Exactly? You're gonna get you get yourself killed. It's a
- 8:35Speaker 1: ridiculous the same vacation you can go lie on a
- 8:37Speaker 1: beach and have nothing but fun. It's crazy.
- 8:40Speaker 2: I'm more of it. I'm more of a sun guy myself.
- 8:42Speaker 2: I enjoy that. But there was we did win a
- 8:45Speaker 2: gold medal. Uh. This alpine skier, Breezy Johnson got a
- 8:50Speaker 2: gold medal in women's downhill. And then while she's having
- 8:54Speaker 2: a press cover. She broke her damn Gold medal into
- 8:57Speaker 2: three pieces accidentally, so she smashed her metal.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, you bring up a good point. Se two
- 9:06Speaker 1: hundred and fiftieth anniversary of America. You know, coming up
- 9:09Speaker 1: in July, there's going to be some amazing concerts, amazing
- 9:12Speaker 1: events all summer Washington. They're going to have and I
- 9:15Speaker 1: don't think Democrats are too crazy about this. They're going
- 9:17Speaker 1: to have NASCAR around Washington, Indy Car, They're going to
- 9:21Speaker 1: have wrestling at the White These are not big Democratic sports,
- 9:24Speaker 1: are they.
- 9:25Speaker 2: That's not the kind of not only thing has a
- 9:28Speaker 2: lot of stuff that happens at the White House every year.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Hey, by the way, everybody, you can listen to
- 9:34Speaker 1: Scott Shannon on the True Oldies Channel. Where should they
- 9:37Speaker 1: go to get it?
- 9:39Speaker 2: Well, what I did was I've always been a fan.
- 9:42Speaker 2: That's my hobby. You know. I love music, and that's
- 9:45Speaker 2: what got me into the radio business. I love music first,
- 9:50Speaker 2: and I think the greatest decade of music was the
- 9:55Speaker 2: sixties and the seventies right behind. It depend on you know,
- 9:59Speaker 2: on your age, who you are, and what your preference is.
- 10:02Speaker 2: But I took all the best music from the sixties
- 10:05Speaker 2: and seventies and mix them all together and keep the
- 10:09Speaker 2: commercials down. You know, if you grew up on WABC,
- 10:13Speaker 2: it's perfect pace for you, True Oldiest Channel. We're on
- 10:16Speaker 2: ninety two three FM h D three, which is now.

- 10:25Speaker 2: any car in the last ten years, or you can
- 10:28Speaker 2: get it on your Alexa. You say, Alexa, play the
- 10:32Speaker 2: True Oldiest Channel. It's that simple.
- 10:35Speaker 1: And you can listen to Scott Channon show every morning
- 10:38Speaker 1: on the True Oldiest Channel.
- 10:39Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, I still do a morning show there.
- 10:43Speaker 2: I don't have to take I don't take the trip
- 10:45Speaker 2: into the city like I did for like thirty thirty years.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Yes, much easier now, so but listen to the True
- 10:51Speaker 1: Oldiest Channel, Scott Channon. Great stuff is always Thanks for.
