- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermind, set coach, creative strategist, and also
- 0:09happen to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the Coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the garage.
- 0:30Very cold outside, very dark, literally 32°, very cold for me.
- 0:35Anyway, yesterday we talked about building a very strong
- 0:38foundation. And one of the factors that I
- 0:41really want to emphasize to everybody going into having a
- 0:44successful New year, forget about the whole year, just let's
- 0:49get through January and figure out how do we have a very
- 0:54successful January. OK.
- 0:56So First things first, it is to remember that you are going to
- 1:00have challenges in sticking to whatever your plans are.
- 1:03You will have things that show up.
- 1:05There is no question about it. I do.
- 1:08Life happens. We're human beings, life shows
- 1:10up, Life happens. And we have to be prepared for
- 1:13those blips when it happens. What's the best way to, you
- 1:17know, to combat that when it shows up and to, you know, be
- 1:21able to circumvent these situations when they show up?
- 1:25So everyone has their strategies.
- 1:27Many coaches teach very different things, you know,
- 1:30punishment strategies, reward strategies, internal rewards,
- 1:35external rewards. There's all kinds of ways that
- 1:37you can go about this. And some of them work.
- 1:41Some of them work really well. I just have beliefs around them
- 1:44based on my experience of coaching people for years as to
- 1:48which ones have the most likely hit of success.
- 1:52And one of the biggest ones that I can tell you is obviously your
- 1:56mindset is the is the key. So what you're going into this
- 1:59with, you've got to make sure that your mindset is there.
- 2:01And yes, we know we talk about that incessantly.
- 2:03We talk about it because it's so very important.
- 2:07But how do you move your mindset sometimes?
- 2:09How do you move it when you need it the most?
- 2:12How do you shift things so that you can understand what has to
- 2:15happen in order for you to be able to get to that next place?
- 2:19And this is asking questions. Now, if you've been a fan and
- 2:23you've listened for years, you know, I have this thing about
- 2:25questions. I am the mad inquisitor.
- 2:28I will ask questions six ways to Sunday because I know it works.
- 2:33It works for me. It works for my clients.
- 2:36So the real question you have to ask yourself right now, no pun
- 2:40intended, is what are my questions that I'm going to be
- 2:44asking myself to help myself when I need it?
- 2:46Because guess, guess what? We're not.
- 2:48Nobody else is with you in your times of decisions.
- 2:50It's just you. It's you by yourself.
- 2:53And even if someone else is with you, even if another person is
- 2:57standing there and you're talking to them and they are
- 3:01giving you opinions, my guess is that you are not just taking
- 3:06their opinion. You're still doing what all
- 3:09human beings do. And that is filtering it through
- 3:12your own mindset, your own opinions, your own beliefs.
- 3:16All of that is a trickle down. It's like having a strainer in
- 3:19the sink. You're hearing it, it's passing
- 3:23through you, but it doesn't mean you're going to use it.
- 3:25It doesn't mean it's going to happen.
- 3:27You're going to potentially let it go right down the drain.
- 3:29And maybe you should because they're not giving you the best
- 3:32advice. Who knows?
- 3:33But the point is asking the right questions.
- 3:36So sometimes people will say to me, well, I should ask only
- 3:38motivating questions. And I'm like, well, potentially,
- 3:42but not always. Questions can be the driving
- 3:48force that changes your life if you ask them in a way that gives
- 3:53you the power to be able to see yourself in a different light.
- 3:58So in other words, if I don't want to do something, if I'm
- 4:01dragging my feet with doing something, I can go and I can
- 4:04ask a question and say, OK, let's assume that I don't do
- 4:09this. What are the consequences?
- 4:11I can see and I can write it down the consequences.
- 4:15Then I'll ask myself, what are the potential unforeseen
- 4:19consequences? What are the unintended
- 4:21consequences of this? And then I have, I'm forced to
- 4:25think differently about the situation.
- 4:28And being able to do that gives us power to be able to look at
- 4:34all these different sides. You know, when you really pay
- 4:38attention to the neuroscience, when you ask people questions,
- 4:44you have the consideration within them to provoke them, to
- 4:49give them a, a, a possibility of something different because the
- 4:52question is driving them. The question is driving them.
- 4:57And when you do that, it, it changes the outcome.
- 5:01You also empower yourself to have choices because questions
- 5:06give you choices when you allow them to.
- 5:09Don't have to listen, but I can. So I can ask myself a question
- 5:13if I don't want to do it, that will move me forward.
- 5:16So things that are great questions to ask yourself when
- 5:20you feel stuck. Was this something, this is a
- 5:24very important question if it's if it's working towards a goal,
- 5:27Was this something that I have wanted for a very long time?
- 5:31And if the answer is yes, great. Has it been on my goal list
- 5:34before? Yes.
- 5:36What was the reason you didn't do it before and ask the hard
- 5:41question? What was the reason that you had
- 5:43kept putting it off? What was the reason you kept
- 5:45letting it lag over? Because in that answer, maybe
- 5:48your clue as to why you're stuck.
- 5:50So the big thing today, ask yourself the right questions.
- 5:56Ask yourself the foundational questions for being successful.
- 6:01And you know, we always can go back to the one that pushes me
- 6:04so, so hard. It's like, how will you feel
- 6:08when the person you are meets the person you could have been?
- 6:11Oh my gosh, that is the definition of hell.
- 6:14When the person you are meets the person you could have been
- 6:18if it's a killer. But that question that I
- 6:21formatted around it, how will you feel when the person you are
- 6:25meets the person you could have been?
- 6:28Geez, that moves me every single time because I don't want to
- 6:33leave anything on the table. So I hope you guys have a
- 6:36blessed day and I will see you tomorrow with some more good
- 6:40stuff. Have a great day guys.
- 6:42Bye.
