- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, everybody, Brian Smith here with the I&T series and your daily influence.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: Today, I'm going to dive into this new fractionalized world that we're living in.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm also going to be in the future talking about the gig economy, gig being people who are taking on multiple jobs or multiple streams of income
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: that's a byproduct of this fractionalized world that we live in.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: As business leaders were challenged in that the mind sets different how people approach their work is different.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: They don't want to be tied down and understanding that and being empathetic to how people
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: and divide it and fractionalize as it comes to their ability to focus their attention, their ability to earn income, their ability to balance their lives that is oftentimes in consistent.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: Gone, it seems, are the days when you can rely on somebody to go on vacation once or twice a year within
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: whatever vacation policies they have.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: People are more into doing more fractional type trips, smaller trips, more numerous trips through the year to help sustain their mental health, their well-being, or whatever it is that interests them.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: And part of what's driving the fractionalized world is this influx of
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: data in this need to be satisfied with attention and maintaining and attention to whatever is influenced in us at a very high level, but keeping that attention at a high level.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: And as leaders when we're faced with people who come to us,
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: that have these short attention spans, these attention spans that oftentimes change or can't be focused, that needs stimulation to begin that process, you should start with empathy.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: And what do I mean by that is,
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: Understanding the challenges that people are facing is the first step to us helping them and us build a culture and an environment that will support both what our needs are from an organizational perspective and from a leaders perspective and what their needs are and there is balance there.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: There isn't ability to clearly define what somebody's role is and what the expectations are, work with that person while you have empathy for the struggles they're having to agree on this.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: fractional work structure, this fractional schedule, this fractional environment and balance them and meet everybody's needs.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: I have learned through dealing with younger people and more mature people coming out of the workforce and being faced with a world that actually is functioning more in this fractionalized environment and having to change themselves their mindset towards work.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: understanding or accepting that they may have to fractionalize what they do or that the environment that they work in is surrounded by people who live in this fractionalized mindset.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: An empathy will take you through that.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: What empathy leads to is conversation.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: It allows you to slow down get balanced and to actually have the conversations that are needed to share understanding of your areas of influence and your needs with those that are maybe more in tune with this flat fractional world.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: And for you to understand better and to improve your mindset and your approach towards people who are forcing you to conform or to be involved in this fractionalized world in his leaders.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's very difficult because we think we set the rules to a certain extent we do, but as we evolve in business, as we involve in society, as technology evolves, as tools become more available to us and allow us to be more fractionalized.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: We have to improve our mindset and our approach towards these areas of influence, and I truly believe that empathy leads the way that you can fall back on it, rely on it to balance yourself, to settle yourself down, to slow down and try to gain a better understanding of
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: What it is that's in the minds of the people who challenge you as leaders, who challenge you with this fractionalized thought process, this fractionalized schedules, this hybrid environment they wanna work in.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: This mindset and skill set that they bring, that often feels like it has gaps in it, but truly, if you really listen to them, you can take advantage.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: of the way they approach work and get so much more out of them because you can channel them when they are focused and when they are channeled the products that they deliver are of high quality and they actually at least in my area of influence my area of experience
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: our meeting or exceeding my expectations, and I'm pleasantly surprised when I approach these situations with empathy.
