- 0:03Speaker 1: What I knew a twink to be growing up as
- 0:05Speaker 1: a young gay person. Like that definition no longer stands now, Yeah, exactly,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Like I just thought that a twink was like a
- 0:13Speaker 1: super skinny, short faggot who wears like Andrew Kristian underwear.
- 0:18Speaker 2: That's still true?
- 0:19Speaker 3: Is that still true? And works at the mad counter?
- 0:22Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 0:23Speaker 3: Like to me, that's.
- 0:26Speaker 2: She's sheen a me no may none yo, no no,

- 1:04Speaker 2: Before we get into today's episode, we wanted to let
- 1:08Speaker 2: you know that we are doing a live show on
- 1:11Speaker 2: June twenty sixth at the Bellhouse in Brooklyn.

- 1:35Speaker 4: It's gonna be so so fun. Rose and I have
- 1:37Speaker 4: been doing a little planning and you know, no spoilers,
- 1:40Speaker 4: but I know that everyone coming will have an absolute blast,
- 1:45Speaker 4: a night to remember, honestly.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yes, get your tickets now at the bellhousean why dot Com?
- 1:52Speaker 2: That is the Bellhouse and why dot Com? And we
- 1:56Speaker 2: are coming to you from different coasts. Different is out
- 2:01Speaker 2: of town right now for a very special reason. You
- 2:04Speaker 2: want to tell the girlies all about it.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Yes, I left town specifically to escape New York's air
- 2:09Speaker 4: quality the Pacific Northwest, where all of the air smells
- 2:14Speaker 4: like juniper and fresh sea salt water.
- 2:19Speaker 5: This is just you know, the place to be breathing air.
- 2:21Speaker 5: Love it here.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Okay, what's the real reason.
- 2:24Speaker 4: The real reason is Justin bought me tickets to see
- 2:27Speaker 4: Jonny Mitchell's first plan performance in twenty years. So me
- 2:31Speaker 4: and my besties got into a little car and drove
- 2:35Speaker 4: to this place called the Gorge Amphitheater.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Have you ever heard of it?
- 2:38Speaker 4: I had never heard of it before, so all three
- 2:41Speaker 4: Lilith Fares stopped by the Gorge Amphitheater. It is an
- 2:45Speaker 4: iconic venue. Yes, now you know the vibe. Iconic venue
- 2:50Speaker 4: in a literal gorge that seats like twenty thousand people
- 2:54Speaker 4: and you know the.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Yeah, estrogens seeped into the ground. Yes, okay, in the trees.
- 3:00Speaker 4: So here's a bunch of information that was like I
- 3:02Speaker 4: didn't have going into this, and then when I got
- 3:05Speaker 4: there found out very quickly, which is that this weekend
- 3:09Speaker 4: was not just a Joni Mitchell performance. It was actually
- 3:14Speaker 4: this festival that Brandy Carlisle puts on every year called
- 3:18Speaker 4: Ladies of the Canyon or like Echoes of the Canyon
- 3:21Speaker 4: or something like that.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I've heard of it.
- 3:23Speaker 5: Okay, I did not realize, but she so.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Brandy Carlyle is obviously a legend, one of like the
- 3:30Speaker 4: key kind of a musician's musician in my opinion, and
- 3:34Speaker 4: has so many different connections and loves, love and relationships
- 3:38Speaker 4: with you know, amazing you know, music artists across everywhere always,
- 3:46Speaker 4: and so she brings in all of these musicians to
- 3:48Speaker 4: do shows at the Gorge, which is a venue that
- 3:52Speaker 4: she grew up going to seeing like Bowie and going
- 3:55Speaker 4: to Lila Fair and all the different stuff. And so
- 3:59Speaker 4: she decided to do this Joni Mitchell performance in large
- 4:02Speaker 4: part because about five years ago Brandy started to become
- 4:06Speaker 4: friends with Joni through her wife, and one time Joni
- 4:10Speaker 4: was like.
- 4:11Speaker 5: You know, I have a music room and it's pretty
- 4:14Speaker 5: lonely in there, and I feel like maybe I could
- 4:16Speaker 5: have some music music artist sober to maybe jam sometime.
- 4:21Speaker 5: Which are you in?
- 4:22Speaker 2: And Brandy Carlo, of course, was extremely offensive. Joni Mitchell, im.
- 4:26Speaker 5: That's literally what she sounds like. Now She's like, hey,
- 4:28Speaker 5: my name is Joni Mitchell. I don't think that's actually
- 4:32Speaker 5: that bad, but I'll have to listen to it. Back
- 4:34Speaker 5: to the side.
- 4:35Speaker 4: So, anyways, Joni invites Brandy over for these Joni jams.
- 4:38Speaker 4: This is part of this is an essential part of
- 4:40Speaker 4: like the lore by the way to the concert. I
- 4:43Speaker 4: think it really builds out the story in a way
- 4:45Speaker 4: that helps you understand what exactly you saw if you ever.
- 4:48Speaker 2: See any judge of that.
- 4:53Speaker 4: So she so the very first Joni jam that Brandy
- 4:56Speaker 4: ever went to over at Jonie's house in her music room.
- 4:59Speaker 5: She brought Hosier and I think, like, I don't.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Really know any of Hosier's music. I'm either not not
- 5:09Speaker 2: on that wavelength the girl. You know, I don't like
- 5:12Speaker 2: to listen to men sing yeah yeah, yeah me either.
- 5:16Speaker 5: The girls love Hosier.
- 5:17Speaker 4: I don't know anything about Hosier but anyway, she brought
- 5:19Speaker 4: Hosier over anything one of the music artists trying to
- 5:21Speaker 4: impress Joni. And I think they all felt like because
- 5:24Speaker 4: Jonni was recovering from a stroke, a stroke that wherein
- 5:27Speaker 4: she had to literally learn how to speak again. Like
- 5:30Speaker 4: I didn't, I forgot this that like after her her
- 5:32Speaker 4: brain aneurysm, Janie fully had to like relearn how to
- 5:36Speaker 4: like walk and talk and all this different stuff. So
- 5:39Speaker 4: I think Brandy and her friends assumed that they were
- 5:42Speaker 4: going over to just perform for Joni because she couldn't
- 5:46Speaker 4: perform anymore. And lo and behold that, you know, Brandy
- 5:49Speaker 4: does a song for Joni, Hosier does a song for Joni,
- 5:52Speaker 4: and then all of a sudden, Shaka Khan walks in
- 5:55Speaker 4: because Jonie invited Shaka Khan to like the Joni jam
- 5:58Speaker 4: or whatever, and so they start playing some music, and
- 6:01Speaker 4: then Herbie Hancock walks in, legendary pianists, and he starts
- 6:04Speaker 4: coming in and playing some songs, and then he starts
- 6:07Speaker 4: playing you know, like a few keys or whatever.
- 6:10Speaker 5: And Brandy Carlisle tells this story saying that like they
- 6:13Speaker 5: were listening to Herbie play the piano, and then all
- 6:15Speaker 5: of a sudden, Joni Mitchell goes, so mutime.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Do do and starts singing like jazz, and so they
- 6:26Speaker 4: all start jamming together. And then that became this kind
- 6:29Speaker 4: of like monthly tradition of Joni jams where people like
- 6:34Speaker 4: Elton John and like other folks would like come in,
- 6:38Speaker 4: Sarah McLaughlin, Annie Lennox, all these people would come in
- 6:41Speaker 4: and do these little jams with Joni. And I think
- 6:45Speaker 4: the reason I'm prefacing all of this is because one,
- 6:50Speaker 4: because it's Brandy Carlile's festival. It was literally, no exaggeration,
- 6:54Speaker 4: twenty thousand lesbians on this campsite. Twenty thousand lesbians. Imagine
- 7:00Speaker 4: that it's a lot of super rus. It's a lot
- 7:02Speaker 4: of super reforesters. Highlight of the I mean, so we
- 7:06Speaker 4: were like camping out in like, uh, there's like this
- 7:09Speaker 4: campsite where in everyone has it's kind of like tailgate culture.
- 7:13Speaker 5: Did you ever tailgate?
- 7:14Speaker 4: Rouas you seem like you would be really into tail
- 7:18Speaker 4: You seem like you, but you seem like someone who'd
- 7:20Speaker 4: be really into like the ceremony of like posting up
- 7:23Speaker 4: next to your car, like you know, drinking, you know,
- 7:26Speaker 4: a having a sandwich or like no okay, no no, no, no,
- 7:31Speaker 4: no okay. Anyways, it's like it's like tailgating, but you're
- 7:35Speaker 4: camping next to your car in this like lawn filled
- 7:38Speaker 4: with you know, probably a thousand something cars and people
- 7:41Speaker 4: who are waiting to see Joony. One hundred percent of
- 7:44Speaker 4: the people that I talked to were lesbians. There was
- 7:47Speaker 4: actually a moment where our car battery died because I
- 7:49Speaker 4: was playing music out of our cars.
- 7:53Speaker 5: Our car battery died.
- 7:55Speaker 4: And like we were freaking out for like approximately forty seconds,
- 8:00Speaker 4: and then I go no, wait, wait, wait, like we're
- 8:03Speaker 4: gonna be fine. We are in this lesbian we're surrounded
- 8:06Speaker 4: by lesbian like we're gonna be fine. And literally, like
- 8:09Speaker 4: I walked over to our neighbor and I was like,
- 8:12Speaker 4: I was like, do you know anybody that has jumper cables?
- 8:15Speaker 4: And then she goes, she turns out into the and
- 8:17Speaker 4: imagine like they're like hundreds and hundreds in our surrounding
- 8:20Speaker 4: area of like people at their different car campsites, and
- 8:22Speaker 4: a girl just turn turns around, she goes and they
- 8:25Speaker 4: want to have jumper cables, and like nine different lesbians
- 8:27Speaker 4: like pop out the holes hold it.
- 8:29Speaker 2: I'd be like, like what kind what pride you need?
- 8:32Speaker 2: She like, it's like it's like that scene of a
- 8:34Speaker 2: Little Mermaid where Ariel blows the cottage who it was giving.
- 8:42Speaker 5: It was so funny, it was so cinematic.
- 8:45Speaker 4: So I'm just trying to set the scene for you
- 8:47Speaker 4: in that By the time I've gotten to Joni, I'm
- 8:51Speaker 4: already fully immersed and inducted into this lesbian commune. Like
- 8:56Speaker 4: we're sharing clothes, we're making each other meals, We're like
- 8:59Speaker 4: going to concert together with like literal strangers that I've
- 9:02Speaker 4: just met at you know, Brandy's Ladies of the Canyon.
- 9:05Speaker 5: Festival or whatever. I am now a Lady of the Canyon.
- 9:09Speaker 4: And I guess on stage they were trying to replicate
- 9:12Speaker 4: this Jony Jam idea, which I thought was amazing. So
- 9:15Speaker 4: there's like couches, lamps, a carpet on stage and like
- 9:20Speaker 4: a lot of couches and seats, like a lot of
- 9:22Speaker 4: room proceeding, which I was kind of like, what's going
- 9:24Speaker 4: to happen? And Brandy opens for her, which is awesome,
- 9:29Speaker 4: and then brings out Joni and they play this little
- 9:32Speaker 4: like kind of jazz tribute and she just like walks
- 9:36Speaker 4: very slowly on set with her cane and her assist
- 9:39Speaker 4: and like and like the second she sat down rose
- 9:43Speaker 4: and she just says.
- 9:44Speaker 5: Something like thank you, it's so good to see you.
- 9:48Speaker 4: And she does like her little laugh, and I immediately
- 9:52Speaker 4: started crying because the sound of her laugh is so
- 9:58Speaker 4: it had just literally really just.
- 10:00Speaker 5: The sound of her laugh had such.
- 10:03Speaker 4: A long history, like emotional place in my body that
- 10:11Speaker 4: I just know I was literally in our theme Yes,
- 10:13Speaker 4: it's literally in our theme music. I started getting emotional.
- 10:16Speaker 4: And then they immediately launched into big yellow taxi and
- 10:21Speaker 4: I just started ecstatically crying. And the woman next to me,
- 10:25Speaker 4: who was probably in her seventies, who had seen Jenny
- 10:30Speaker 4: Mitchell twice I think, had seen Johnny Mitchell twice before
- 10:34Speaker 4: moved to the Pacific Northwest specifically because weed was legal there,
- 10:37Speaker 4: and is in love with has been in love with
- 10:39Speaker 4: Paul McCartney since she was twelve years old.
- 10:40Speaker 5: She told me, like walks over, she.
- 10:44Speaker 4: Goes, hey, it's okay, dude, Like it's she's like trying
- 10:47Speaker 4: to confess.
- 10:48Speaker 2: She's like trying to like comfort me because I'm crying
- 10:51Speaker 2: so so hysterically.
- 10:54Speaker 4: And the thing about Jonie and this whole performance is
- 10:58Speaker 4: that Jonie can't really she doesn't have you know, the
- 11:02Speaker 4: Canaries voice anymore. She can't really hit the notes. She
- 11:08Speaker 4: has you know gone, she's had a stroke. She learned
- 11:11Speaker 4: how to talk again, learned how to sing again. And
- 11:13Speaker 4: on top of that, she is an eighty year old
- 11:15Speaker 4: woman who has smoked a lifetime of cigarettes and a
- 11:18Speaker 4: lifetime of marijuana, and so there the kind of coherency
- 11:24Speaker 4: and ability to actually like perform, it's all there. She
- 11:29Speaker 4: knows what she's doing, and she was definitely in command
- 11:33Speaker 4: of the performance. She was the hero, the center. She
- 11:36Speaker 4: was on a throne, and surrounding her was her backup
- 11:40Speaker 4: vocals and players, which included Sarah McLaughlin, Annie Lennox, Brandy Carlisle,
- 11:48Speaker 4: Marcus Mumford on guitar. Like all these people that had
- 11:52Speaker 4: like shown up for her because they love her and
- 11:55Speaker 4: you know, had been doing Joni Jamson wanted to support her.
- 11:58Speaker 4: And something that I realized very quickly is that Jonie's
- 12:02Speaker 4: voice could not, like because of the quality and what
- 12:06Speaker 4: she's able to do, her own voice and performing quality
- 12:09Speaker 4: would not have made a concert like There's no way
- 12:13Speaker 4: she could just got to get up there with a
- 12:15Speaker 4: band because of the stage she's in her career, but
- 12:21Speaker 4: the for her to bring on this ensemble and for
- 12:24Speaker 4: them to sing and play back of her in a
- 12:26Speaker 4: way that's kind of truly jammy.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Like.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Things were off tempo, a little off key sometimes. There
- 12:32Speaker 4: was this cacophony of background sounds and instruments that built
- 12:38Speaker 4: that were that was built around Joni's voice to supplement it,
- 12:42Speaker 4: and that was something that made it so much more beautiful.
- 12:46Speaker 4: And I ah, it was just like you came to
- 12:49Speaker 4: watch that, you know, does that make sense?
- 12:52Speaker 5: Can you even?
- 12:53Speaker 2: Like?
- 12:53Speaker 5: It's like so it was so it was such.
- 12:56Speaker 4: A wild, wild experience and they all took turns like
- 13:00Speaker 4: doing tributes to like Sarah McLaughlin did Blue and Anny
- 13:03Speaker 4: Linix did Lady of Ladies of the Canyon. Oh my god,
- 13:09Speaker 4: it was so incredible.
- 13:11Speaker 2: It sounds like a very once in a lifetime kind
- 13:14Speaker 2: of experience.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Yeah, it really really felt like that, like it it
- 13:19Speaker 4: felt it felt like a pilgrimage, like it felt like
- 13:23Speaker 4: a mecca and so many for lesbians. Yes, and it was,
- 13:28Speaker 4: and it was such a adjacent and it was such
- 13:30Speaker 4: a vast range of people, like we were definitely the
- 13:33Speaker 4: youngest people there, but it was a huge range of
- 13:35Speaker 4: people and yet of course like pretty much the exact
- 13:38Speaker 4: same person.
- 13:39Speaker 5: You know, like it was a lot of camping, white
- 13:42Speaker 5: lesbian types.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Ari I really got emptied by those women on their
- 13:47Speaker 2: way to the festival.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Oh girl, the jumper cables are sold out at ari
- 13:51Speaker 4: I for sure.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Well that's so amazing. I'm so happy that you got
- 13:56Speaker 2: to experience that.
- 13:58Speaker 5: Do you have a favorite Jony song?
- 14:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a Case of You. I have always said
- 14:03Speaker 2: that if I ever were to get married, which I'm
- 14:06Speaker 2: not going to, that is the song that I would
- 14:09Speaker 2: have my first dance to. I think it's the romance.
- 14:12Speaker 2: I think it's the most romantic song ever written.
- 14:16Speaker 5: That's what.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's the greatest love song ever written.
- 14:19Speaker 4: But I also really like all I want.
- 14:23Speaker 5: I want to talk to you? What a shampoo you?
- 14:27Speaker 5: I want to shampoo you. Would you let me shampoo
- 14:30Speaker 5: you if it was wash day?
- 14:31Speaker 2: Ummm no, I'm very specific about my hair.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Okay, So your favorite Jenni Mitchell song is Case of You.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Have you ever cried listening to that song?
- 14:40Speaker 2: Many? Many times?
- 14:42Speaker 5: Oh?
- 14:43Speaker 2: Oh really? What about? So?
- 14:46Speaker 4: Basically you are Emma Thompson in Not the Holiday? What's
- 14:51Speaker 4: the holiday, but for heterosexual and love and love actually
- 14:55Speaker 4: love actually.
- 14:57Speaker 2: That is actually a good way of putting out the
- 14:59Speaker 2: holiday for heterosexuals, that is it? Yeah, you were Emma Thompson.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Does that make me Alan Rickman? I don't think no,
- 15:09Speaker 2: I think you're Mitchell Laura. You're Laura Lenny.
- 15:13Speaker 4: Oh, because I will cock block myself so that I
- 15:18Speaker 4: can take care of the people that I love.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Yes, Rose, what did you do this weekend? I saw
- 15:26Speaker 2: The boogey Man on Friday night, which was it's a
- 15:31Speaker 2: new horror movie based on a Stephen King short story.
- 15:34Speaker 2: It's one of the girls from Yellow Jackets is in it,
- 15:39Speaker 2: which one which Jacket young Juliette lewis one with the
- 15:47Speaker 2: blonde hair and the roots that have not grown out appropriately.
- 15:51Speaker 2: She was good. She was good. And then yesterday I
- 15:57Speaker 2: did something that I didn't think I was going to do,
- 15:59Speaker 2: which was I watched the first two episodes of The Idol.
- 16:03Speaker 4: Oh, I am watching that on my flight.
- 16:07Speaker 5: What did you say? So?
- 16:08Speaker 2: I mean, I'll be interested to hear your thoughts, but
- 16:10Speaker 2: you know, I had kind of decided that I wasn't
- 16:13Speaker 2: going to watch it. Yeah, everyone who listens to this
- 16:15Speaker 2: podcast knows I'm not a Sam Levinson fan. I don't
- 16:19Speaker 2: watch Euphoria, but you know, I was thinking about it
- 16:22Speaker 2: yesterday and like, I just don't want to have opinions
- 16:28Speaker 2: on things without actually being able to judge them for myself,
- 16:34Speaker 2: you know. So I thought, if I was going to
- 16:36Speaker 2: like take this stance that this show was bad, that
- 16:39Speaker 2: I should actually watch it and see if it was.
- 16:42Speaker 2: And surprisingly I liked it. You like the idol, Like, yeah,
- 16:49Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think it's amazing. I think you
- 16:53Speaker 2: know the first episode and you know, when you watch it,
- 16:56Speaker 2: let me know what you think. But the first half
- 16:58Speaker 2: of the first episode I really liked because it focuses
- 17:01Speaker 2: on Lily Rose Depp's character Jocelyn, who's this pop star
- 17:05Speaker 2: who's gone through a mental breakdown and is trying to
- 17:08Speaker 2: like have her big comeback moment, and the first half
- 17:12Speaker 2: of the episode is exploring that part of the story
- 17:15Speaker 2: and her team, which is like all of these you know,
- 17:19Speaker 2: managers and agents and creative directors and publicists who are
- 17:22Speaker 2: all played by really funny people. And that part of
- 17:25Speaker 2: the show I found really interesting. And then the weekend
- 17:29Speaker 2: comes into it and it hees he's just a bad actor.
- 17:36Speaker 2: The show is trying to then turn into this like
- 17:39Speaker 2: erotic thriller. There's literally seen in the first episode where
- 17:43Speaker 2: where Lily Rose Depp and Rachel Sennett, who plays her
- 17:47Speaker 2: best friend slash assistant, are sitting and watching Basic Instinct,
- 17:52Speaker 2: and it's like so on the nose. So yeah, I
- 17:58Speaker 2: mean the first episode, I was, you know, intrigued more
- 18:02Speaker 2: than I was annoyed. So I watched true to the
- 18:07Speaker 2: second half.
- 18:07Speaker 4: A rave review from rosem you I was intrigued more
- 18:11Speaker 4: than I'm annoyed.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean again and in the again in the
- 18:16Speaker 2: second episode, like the first half of it is about
- 18:19Speaker 2: her doing this music video shoot that she really is
- 18:23Speaker 2: like not prepared to do, and it's showing like how
- 18:26Speaker 2: exploitative her whole team is and you know, how exploitive
- 18:30Speaker 2: of the industry is. And then again in the second half,
- 18:32Speaker 2: the Weekend comes in and it just becomes this very
- 18:35Speaker 2: different show than I'm much less interested in, And I
- 18:38Speaker 2: feel like as the season progresses, it's probably going to
- 18:43Speaker 2: lean more into the stuff with the Weekend, and I
- 18:45Speaker 2: will lose interest in it, but at least I'm like
- 18:49Speaker 2: watching it and judging it for myself. And also her
- 18:54Speaker 2: song that she's trying to put out is kind of
- 18:57Speaker 2: a bop. It's not on the level of like a
- 19:00Speaker 2: Miley song from Black Mirror.
- 19:01Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what I was gonna ask.
- 19:03Speaker 2: But it's fun. And you know, I need a like
- 19:07Speaker 2: Sunday night TV show in my life with succession gone.
- 19:10Speaker 2: So I'll watch this for as long as I'm interested
- 19:14Speaker 2: in it, as soon as I'm not. As soon as
- 19:16Speaker 2: I'm not, I will just stop your letterbox account. Lily
- 19:20Speaker 2: Rose dep is no Ashley. Oh but let me tell you, well,
- 19:24Speaker 2: you can't letterboxed TV shows. Oh. Really goes to show
- 19:28Speaker 2: how much I know. I also watched, speaking of like
- 19:33Speaker 2: erotic thrillers and like psychosexual violence, I watched The Doom Generation.
- 19:39Speaker 4: I thought you were segueing us to the Ultimatum and
- 19:42Speaker 4: it was gonna.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Lie, Well, virgins we are. We did talk about the
- 19:49Speaker 2: Ultimatum Queer Love Edition on our Patreon this week with
- 19:52Speaker 2: producer Phoebe, So if you want to hear us get
- 19:55Speaker 2: into that, you will have to go to patreon dot
- 19:57Speaker 2: com slash like a Virgin. But no, I was saying that.
- 20:01Speaker 2: On Saturday night, I watched The Doom Generation, which is
- 20:04Speaker 2: a Greg Iraqi movie. It's like a sort of cult
- 20:08Speaker 2: cinema starring Rose McGowan from the nineties, and I really
- 20:17Speaker 2: liked it. It's very horny, very silly, very bloody and
- 20:21Speaker 2: gross and violent and I had a good time watching
- 20:27Speaker 2: it and want to watch more Greg Iraqi movies, especially
- 20:33Speaker 2: the trilogy that that movie is a part of.
- 20:37Speaker 4: I've never seen a single Greg Iraqi movie, can you believe?
- 20:40Speaker 4: Not even Mysterious Skin, that's kind of his most I mean,
- 20:44Speaker 4: maybe the one that has the most kind of like
- 20:46Speaker 4: mainstream crossover, because that's Joseph Gordon Lovett m and Michelle Trachtenberg.
- 20:51Speaker 4: Doesn't justin Gordon Lovick it, you know, hit a pp
- 20:55Speaker 4: in the in the but hole he gets raped.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Oh no, not not.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:06Speaker 2: The Mysterious Skin is about these two boys who are
- 21:08Speaker 2: both molested, actually abused by their like little league coach
- 21:15Speaker 2: when they were kids, and they both respond to it
- 21:17Speaker 2: in very different ways as they grow up. Joseph Gordon
- 21:22Speaker 2: Levitt plays a teenage gay hooker. No, it's yeah, it's
- 21:29Speaker 2: it's a very good movie, but very dark dark, which
- 21:35Speaker 2: you know, I love darkness. I'm I'm so upset because sude,
- 21:40Speaker 2: did you hear about the Sex and the City Experience
- 21:43Speaker 2: thing that was in New York. I don't know, but
- 21:48Speaker 2: Ryan and I were planning on going, and yesterday I
- 21:52Speaker 2: went to look up what the ticket situation was or whatever.
- 21:56Speaker 2: It's already closed. It was only open for three days.
- 21:59Speaker 2: I thought it would at least be opened through the
- 22:02Speaker 2: premiere of and just like that, that's so stupid.
- 22:05Speaker 5: I actually don't understand why we weren't invited to that party, Like.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Well, HBO do better, But we should wrap this up
- 22:15Speaker 2: and get onto our amazing, hilarious from what I can remember,
- 22:21Speaker 2: conversation with Honey Pluton was back again to talk about
- 22:26Speaker 2: the mall?
- 22:26Speaker 5: Should we go to the mall? Right now?
- 22:49Speaker 4: We had a very difficult time picking a topic with
- 22:52Speaker 4: you today, which is a happy problem to happen. And
- 22:55Speaker 4: one of the first things that we kind of nixed
- 22:56Speaker 4: that I just want to get a little, get a little,
- 22:58Speaker 4: a little moment and it was Kathy Baits, So I
- 23:01Speaker 4: think it is kind of mommy.
- 23:02Speaker 2: She's that's such a scary sentence.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Mommy trade literally my like brain is pulling and coming
- 23:11Speaker 1: out of my ears.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Do you want to fuck her?
- 23:13Speaker 3: Yes?
- 23:14Speaker 4: Every I feel like that is like the sight of
- 23:16Speaker 4: like queer coming of age.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Because I think, okay, so let's I just had.
- 23:23Speaker 2: To do you want to suck her currently or okay, both,
- 23:29Speaker 2: but I want to fuck her at absolutely everything, everywhere.
- 23:36Speaker 1: All every cay because I think that for a mommy
- 23:41Speaker 1: to truly be mommy, and same for a daddy to
- 23:43Speaker 1: truly be daddy, and maybe y'all will disagree, I think
- 23:46Speaker 1: that they have to be fat. I just like really
- 23:48Speaker 1: think that, Like Mommy is fat. It's like that's the
- 23:51Speaker 1: archetype and that's why she's fucking sexy. Well the milkers,
- 23:54Speaker 1: it's the milkers, and daddy is fat. The same thing
- 23:56Speaker 1: where it's like every Pride, all these lesbians like post
- 23:59Speaker 1: picture of daddy and it's like some fucking border colleague.
- 24:03Speaker 1: He is not daddy. They they friend is not daddy.
- 24:07Speaker 2: A guy that I was trying to hook up with
- 24:08Speaker 2: recently called me mommy as we were like negotiating, and
- 24:12Speaker 2: I was like, please don't ever do that.
- 24:13Speaker 1: No, but you're not mommy, thank you, No, you're it's
- 24:16Speaker 1: like you you don't give mommy because you don't take
- 24:19Speaker 1: care of people.
- 24:20Speaker 2: No I don't.
- 24:21Speaker 3: You do not take care of people need taking, But you.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Need to be taken care of, and that's you're a cancer.
- 24:28Speaker 1: And so that's the dynamic.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Where it's like Kathy is psycho.
- 24:32Speaker 1: I don't think that she's trade because she's too mentally
- 24:35Speaker 1: ill in that way, and she's a little bit too
- 24:38Speaker 1: like freakish all over the place manic.
- 24:42Speaker 3: She's too like psycho to really be traded.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Has she ever been traded in any of her She
- 24:46Speaker 2: needs more stability, I guess the unco brown exactly.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I would say in Titanic she's probably the tradiest, but
- 24:56Speaker 1: she's definitely like psycho Mommy mommy dearest, like very like
- 25:01Speaker 1: of that where you're going to have sex with her
- 25:04Speaker 1: and then she's like putting on like a mask that
- 25:06Speaker 1: actually like scares you too much, and there's like a
- 25:09Speaker 1: couple like Victorian dolls in the bag that you like
- 25:12Speaker 1: don't really address.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Was she your sexual awakening?
- 25:16Speaker 3: Oh?
- 25:18Speaker 1: I think that she's definitely one of them. Probably in Titanic,
- 25:22Speaker 1: where everyone was like Kate Winslon, I was like Cathy
- 25:24Speaker 1: Babes because I was like, what's going on under all
- 25:28Speaker 1: that tool?
- 25:31Speaker 3: She looks great?
- 25:32Speaker 1: And honestly, it's like my sexual awakening was always the
- 25:36Speaker 1: psychosexual horror movies because that's what I watched with my mom,
- 25:39Speaker 1: because my mom is like super twisted. There's literally where
- 25:44Speaker 1: I was watching Single White Female with.
- 25:46Speaker 2: My mom, watching Mommy with mom.
- 25:48Speaker 1: I was watching Mommy with mommy, and my mom's favorite
- 25:51Speaker 1: movie is Misery. So we'd watched that like every year together.
- 25:55Speaker 1: So and then because my mom is just like a
- 25:57Speaker 1: woman who hated her husband, who was like watching all
- 26:00Speaker 1: these movies about like women killing their husbands, right, And
- 26:03Speaker 1: I was like, hmm, I wonder what this is all about.
- 26:07Speaker 1: And we would watch Mommy Dearest and it was just
- 26:09Speaker 1: like and we watched Rosemary's Baby.
- 26:12Speaker 2: And Fatal Attraction and no exactly.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Basic instinct like that's what we were watching together. It's
- 26:19Speaker 1: just like watching like hot gay women seek revenge.
- 26:24Speaker 2: So what you're saying is that grooming exists.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Like that is part of the play.
- 26:32Speaker 4: It should be acknowledged.
- 26:33Speaker 3: It should be acknowledged.
- 26:34Speaker 4: One of my favorite like kind of fem vengeance movies
- 26:36Speaker 4: as an adolescent with Thelma and Louise, because they're literally
- 26:39Speaker 4: like two like you know, dykes that like kill their
- 26:41Speaker 4: rapists or whatever.
- 26:43Speaker 2: I still only ever watched half of it.
- 26:45Speaker 4: I mean, honestly, you only really need to see half
- 26:48Speaker 4: and then because you already know the ending frame of
- 26:50Speaker 4: the movie in.
- 26:53Speaker 2: It also is it's a lot of rape. I think
- 26:56Speaker 2: the ad is not a twink in that movie. No,
- 26:59Speaker 2: he's not a muscular you're The problem is too wide.
- 27:05Speaker 3: It's way too.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Wide, said as a four, and I'll say it again.
- 27:08Speaker 1: A twink is working at the matt counter. A twink
- 27:11Speaker 1: is wearing a tank top that probably has wearing like
- 27:14Speaker 1: a target tank top that's like blue and gray with
- 27:17Speaker 1: glitter on it. It's wearing those like khaki or jean
- 27:20Speaker 1: shorts that go like right above the knee and Espa
- 27:23Speaker 1: drills like that is a twink. A twink is suburban.
- 27:27Speaker 1: But then there's city twink, which is like a little
- 27:30Speaker 1: better dressed and is maybe still wearing what are those
- 27:33Speaker 1: boots everyone wore when like we were in our earlier twenties,
- 27:37Speaker 1: Jeffrey Campbell.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Boots, Jeffrey Campbell.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Yeah, like maybe the city twink might have some Jeffrey
- 27:42Speaker 1: Campbell boots and is wearing like leather leggings and a
- 27:47Speaker 1: north face and a fucking north face that is actually
- 27:51Speaker 1: a twin.
- 27:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and I don't think a twin can be above
- 27:53Speaker 2: five to nine.
- 27:54Speaker 3: I agree.
- 27:56Speaker 4: Okay, so we've laid it down. Peace can't be above
- 27:58Speaker 4: five to nine.
- 27:59Speaker 1: And then if you're not that, then you're just a faggot,
- 28:03Speaker 1: and that is really beautiful.
- 28:04Speaker 2: I do think that sometimes you're seeing twinks where there
- 28:07Speaker 2: are only fagots. Yeah.
- 28:09Speaker 4: Yeah, But I also I tend to like my kind
- 28:12Speaker 4: of orientation around faggot is usually not like gay men.
- 28:16Speaker 4: It's not always like gay man.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Faggot is a gender, Yeah, it is, it is.
- 28:21Speaker 4: I mean, obviously they are like cultural, different cultural meanings
- 28:24Speaker 4: for like faggot, and a lot of people will see
- 28:25Speaker 4: it be like faggots and it's like all these guys
- 28:27Speaker 4: on like the Tai Tee boat or whatever. I'm just like, no,
- 28:30Speaker 4: a lot of those people like aren't faggots, you know,
- 28:33Speaker 4: because and like Larry Mitchell's faggot, like you know what
- 28:37Speaker 4: I mean, like in opposition like counter cultural, which obviously
- 28:40Speaker 4: isn't true to everybody that identifies sometimes, but that's how
- 28:43Speaker 4: I'm thinking about it.
- 28:44Speaker 2: And also, faggot is not necessarily just a way to
- 28:46Speaker 2: self identify. Faggot is something that you get.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Called at the streets, Yeah, exactly. Yeah, And fagots are
- 28:53Speaker 4: not all you know, like cis men, you know what
- 28:56Speaker 4: I mean.
- 28:56Speaker 1: But sometimes faggots, Yes, like that's a baggot and you're
- 29:02Speaker 1: like bumping into me because you don't know that I exist.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Yah, And you know where you know where fagots congregate
- 29:10Speaker 2: at the mall, at the mall, at the mall.
- 29:12Speaker 3: It's all coming together.
- 29:13Speaker 1: But I really think glad that we chose this topic
- 29:15Speaker 1: because did we all grow up suburban?
- 29:17Speaker 2: Yes?
- 29:17Speaker 1: Yes, so I feel like right, No, I was born
- 29:21Speaker 1: but I was born in Boca. You were, Yes, I
- 29:27Speaker 1: was born in Boca, but I grew up in the
- 29:29Speaker 1: suburbs of Chicago or.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Jewish, I grew up in the I grew up in
- 29:33Speaker 4: I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. Like to
- 29:37Speaker 4: suburban right south of oak Park, Lagrange, like southwest.
- 29:41Speaker 3: Wait, I didn't know that. Did you go to the
- 29:43Speaker 3: same mall?
- 29:44Speaker 2: Probably?
- 29:45Speaker 4: Did we have rival high schools or something?
- 29:47Speaker 3: To Highland Park High Oh?
- 29:49Speaker 4: I went to Lagrange Highlands.
- 29:51Speaker 3: What was your mall called?
- 29:53Speaker 4: It was called there was oak Park. It was the
- 29:55Speaker 4: oak Park mall we had.
- 29:57Speaker 3: We had Northbrooke Cross and then we went to Old Orchard.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Which is now a Westfield. That was the outdoor mall.
- 30:04Speaker 1: That was I kind of fancier. It was like the grove,
- 30:06Speaker 1: like the grove grove, I know what the grove? Did
- 30:09Speaker 1: you go when you were last in l A. No,
- 30:11Speaker 1: but I've heard tales. I'm like familiar to make a
- 30:15Speaker 1: pilgrimage at some point.
- 30:16Speaker 3: It's the mecca.
- 30:17Speaker 2: It is, although to me, the mecca will always be
- 30:20Speaker 2: the mall that I grew up with, because I think
- 30:22Speaker 2: that is universal experiences, like your mall is the mall,
- 30:28Speaker 2: no matter what other malls you visit in your life,
- 30:31Speaker 2: Like my mall will always be town Center and Tone.
- 30:34Speaker 2: I could find my way around it with my eyes closed.
- 30:39Speaker 3: You could like, what was that movie bird Box?
- 30:42Speaker 2: Wasn't she.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Cultural refence?
- 30:51Speaker 2: What I like?
- 30:51Speaker 1: It is a central Bullock. I am in love with
- 30:54Speaker 1: her the first that was my true queer awakening and
- 30:56Speaker 1: the first exactly we.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Need to do aeniality episode, yes, because she was trans
- 31:06Speaker 2: and it's I'm like, I just love the butchery, the
- 31:09Speaker 2: true butchery.
- 31:10Speaker 3: She's wearing that dress and she doesn't really know if
- 31:12Speaker 3: she likes it.
- 31:12Speaker 2: And like her. Benjamin Bratt as the love interest when
- 31:16Speaker 2: you know she wants to fuck Sherry truly the first
- 31:22Speaker 2: fifteen minutes of bird Box are explicitly like a lesbian drama,
- 31:26Speaker 2: Like really, it's just a lesbian like truly. Wait, I
- 31:30Speaker 2: also just found out last night that Pedro Pascal is best.
- 31:33Speaker 2: He's with Sarah Paulson. You didn't know that I had.
- 31:36Speaker 3: That's cute. He loves lesbian.
- 31:38Speaker 4: I know that's such a giveaway, like he's he's just
- 31:40Speaker 4: so gay. I'm so happy, No.
- 31:44Speaker 3: He is.
- 31:45Speaker 1: I don't think he's gay, Okay, I think that he Wait,
- 31:47Speaker 1: because we're all forgetting about this, which is that he's
- 31:50Speaker 1: an ally. He's like a true I think it's like
- 31:54Speaker 1: actually an out his trans daughter, Yeah, exactly trans, just
- 31:59Speaker 1: like yeah, Jimmie Lee Curtis.
- 32:02Speaker 2: It's like these don't bring her up.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Allies.
- 32:08Speaker 1: It's like they're just like Gen X boomers where they
- 32:11Speaker 1: like have just seen what's gone down and they're like,
- 32:14Speaker 1: we like p Flag parents.
- 32:15Speaker 4: It's only a matter of time before we see Petro
- 32:17Speaker 4: Pascal in conversation with Locate at the ninety second street.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Wise speaking into existence.
- 32:24Speaker 1: That's so true where it's like he's going to be
- 32:27Speaker 1: at like Radio City Music Hall with like Jonathan van
- 32:29Speaker 1: net No, Yes, shot him to be gay.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Because he's sexy. But I think it's just like hashtag
- 32:37Speaker 3: ally No, I.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Think it's like a well known like he's gay.
- 32:44Speaker 1: It's like like Bradley Cooper, Like yeah, like Bradley Cooper
- 32:50Speaker 1: is like scary closeted.
- 32:52Speaker 3: It's like it's like, you know, he's.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Bringing real, real twins back to the hotel and they're dying.
- 33:01Speaker 2: It's like the girl with the dragon tattoos, where like
- 33:03Speaker 2: he has the basement with like the cages and stuff.
- 33:06Speaker 1: No, it's kind of like the seal vibes where you
- 33:09Speaker 1: are like flaying these twings like on your ceiling.
- 33:13Speaker 3: It's like, yeah, he is actually finding.
- 33:20Speaker 2: The glass box and find more like finding his Tina
- 33:23Speaker 2: bites because I'm sure he.
- 33:24Speaker 6: Loves smoke and me with twins without a doubt he
- 33:30Speaker 6: needs allegedly allegedly allegedly, Yeah, but I love them all.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Good transition.
- 33:39Speaker 3: That's what your ma was called.
- 33:41Speaker 2: My town center mall and it is. It was my mother,
- 33:45Speaker 2: it was my father. It was my first relationship.
- 33:49Speaker 3: Were you going with a click or by yourself or.
- 33:51Speaker 2: Both both, but mostly by myself? So before I that
- 33:57Speaker 2: makes sense, before I could drive, I used to roller
- 33:59Speaker 2: blade to them. Wait, I'm upset, or I would take
- 34:02Speaker 2: a cab in.
- 34:05Speaker 4: A cab to like fucking eloise at the plaza, Like
- 34:09Speaker 4: I would.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Have to open the phone book and y'all a taxi.
- 34:14Speaker 3: You are such a city girl.
- 34:19Speaker 2: From age, I would go to like build a Bear Abercrombie.
- 34:23Speaker 2: There was one year. There was one year I think
- 34:26Speaker 2: in high school where for Christmas I got all my
- 34:29Speaker 2: close friends a build a bear that I dressed up
- 34:31Speaker 2: to look like them, and I.
- 34:33Speaker 3: Was like, are such a is so fucking cute?
- 34:38Speaker 1: Extremely year, I'm sure that she was like, do you
- 34:40Speaker 1: still have it still?
- 34:43Speaker 2: Take a picture of it now, Take a picture of
- 34:46Speaker 2: it right now and hold up in today's newspaper as well.
- 34:49Speaker 3: I want to see the date.
- 34:50Speaker 4: Okay, you're bringing up something that is like kind of
- 34:52Speaker 4: triggering to me, which is like mall birthdays which were
- 34:55Speaker 4: if we're going to bring class into this conversation, build
- 34:59Speaker 4: a Bear was an expended birthday.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Extremely expensive. It's all about add ons, which is so
- 35:03Speaker 2: nice that you got flat rate for the bear, but
- 35:06Speaker 2: then you have to dress it up. Oh in the
- 35:08Speaker 2: part where they have you hold.
- 35:09Speaker 4: The heart the little silk car I need is a
- 35:13Speaker 4: cult they're getting they're getting back surgery literally, and.
- 35:18Speaker 1: There's stuff in those little buzzies.
- 35:21Speaker 4: Well that that is, I mean those memes of like
- 35:23Speaker 4: the Bears going into the giant metal pole. What what
- 35:26Speaker 4: else there was like Libby Lou, which was you know.
- 35:30Speaker 3: I didn't have Liby.
- 35:31Speaker 2: I don't know what that was.
- 35:32Speaker 3: Libby Lou? Were you in make your own glitter makeup?
- 35:35Speaker 4: Yest me? Limit Libby Lou and also limited To were
- 35:38Speaker 4: a part of like the Hillary Duff industrial complex. Of
- 35:41Speaker 4: their thoughts were in they would like indoctrinate like young
- 35:44Speaker 4: girls to these birthday parties that probably cost like a
- 35:46Speaker 4: a billion dollars per person, where in they would like
- 35:49Speaker 4: put them in full drag beat down tapes like seven yeah,
- 35:55Speaker 4: seven hundred pigtails, as was the fashion of the time.
- 35:58Speaker 4: And like, I think my sister had a birthday there
- 36:00Speaker 4: and resented it because she's like not a girly girl,
- 36:03Speaker 4: but she was like just trying to do what all
- 36:04Speaker 4: the other like rich girls were doing, you know.
- 36:06Speaker 3: And were you a faggot child?
- 36:08Speaker 4: I I mean yes, within reason.
- 36:12Speaker 2: I was like you were a faggot child?
- 36:13Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, I mean she was calling a yellow calf
- 36:17Speaker 1: Virginia slam and My mom.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Was like, get that dick out of your mouth and
- 36:22Speaker 2: go to Heubrew School.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Literally, you were either calling a calf or roller bad.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Wait, you know where the trade shopped, and I'm talking
- 36:29Speaker 2: about mom trade. It was either Anne Taylor Loft, White House,
- 36:34Speaker 2: Black March, the store that old black clothes and white
- 36:39Speaker 2: clothes I'm familiar, which is my MOA.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Had a Betsy Johnson whoa.
- 36:44Speaker 1: I remember walking and I was neither a faggot child
- 36:48Speaker 1: nor a dyke child. I was very like pat. I
- 36:51Speaker 1: was very like non binary, you know, wearing my like
- 36:55Speaker 1: long sleeve shirts, but like walking by limited To and
- 36:58Speaker 1: like wanting to go in to maybe get like some
- 37:01Speaker 1: sweatpants that had like a cat wearing like a harness
- 37:05Speaker 1: on it, like with like a parachute.
- 37:08Speaker 3: That's what I feel like. All the limited To clothes
- 37:09Speaker 3: were with I.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Liked glitter animals. They shouldn't.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm this giraffe is like doing a cartwheel. I'm like, okay,
- 37:18Speaker 1: I'm like not buying her. Children love animals like I
- 37:20Speaker 1: had zoo books and I want all my clothes to
- 37:22Speaker 1: have animals on it. Remember walking by Betsy Johnson and
- 37:26Speaker 1: thinking that like that was the coolest, most glamorous thing
- 37:30Speaker 1: in the entire world. And I didn't want to wear it,
- 37:32Speaker 1: but I wanted to be around like girls that were
- 37:34Speaker 1: wearing it. It was me and knowing that one day
- 37:36Speaker 1: I would have like a squadron of dolls and we
- 37:40Speaker 1: would all just like run around and go crazy together.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Like I knew that was possible.
- 37:44Speaker 2: That's what's the what's the transversion of a fag hag
- 37:48Speaker 2: like a doll collector? Exactly?
- 37:52Speaker 1: God, yes, without I mean, I whatever, I'm iconic film,
- 37:56Speaker 1: Welcome to the Dollhouse, an iconic film. I was like,
- 37:59Speaker 1: I knew that one day I would just be like
- 38:00Speaker 1: surrounded by dolls. When I entered into a Betsy Johnson
- 38:04Speaker 1: like just looking, I was like, that's what I.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Knew, because you were looking for friends, you were looking
- 38:09Speaker 2: for me wandering around the aisles and being like I'm
- 38:11Speaker 2: just here browd.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Absolutely okay. But I also feel like another point of
- 38:36Speaker 1: the law for me was to shop that were you
- 38:39Speaker 1: all were y'all stealing?
- 38:40Speaker 4: I was at the time. Yeah, I had like kind
- 38:43Speaker 4: of suppressed. I was still coming I was still learning
- 38:46Speaker 4: how to not believe in God. Oh. At this time,
- 38:49Speaker 4: I was Catholic. I was I was Catholic, then Christian,
- 38:52Speaker 4: then Baptist.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Oh my god, they did you do so much?
- 38:55Speaker 4: I gave up God right around like sixteen. But it
- 38:58Speaker 4: was like a shaky loss of my and so yeah,
- 39:00Speaker 4: I was too. I didn't steal until college like an adult.
- 39:03Speaker 3: But then you finally got I stole so much. Yeah,
- 39:06Speaker 3: then you're.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Walking out of the Whole Foods Hot Bar with like
- 39:09Speaker 1: Somosa's mac and cheese.
- 39:11Speaker 4: I'm curry, I'm I'm surprised that I never learned how
- 39:15Speaker 4: to like properly shoplift because like I didn't have like
- 39:17Speaker 4: a we we went to the mall like as a
- 39:19Speaker 4: fam like or with my mom like as a treat
- 39:22Speaker 4: kind of. So like I didn't have a ton of
- 39:23Speaker 4: expendable income like American Eagle like was like off the table,
- 39:27Speaker 4: like we can't do it whatever, Like if I'm gonna,
- 39:30Speaker 4: you know, use my own like chore money or whatever,
- 39:32Speaker 4: like it's what I can afford at the Urban Outfitters
- 39:35Speaker 4: book table right like that.
- 39:36Speaker 1: It really is like the mall is radicalizing in that
- 39:41Speaker 1: way because it's like when I would go I grew
- 39:43Speaker 1: up in this like super wealthy suburb and I was
- 39:46Speaker 1: like a in a family that wasn't wealthy. So when
- 39:49Speaker 1: I would like go to the mall with all of
- 39:52Speaker 1: my like extended, like why do middle schoolers roam around
- 39:56Speaker 1: and packs.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Of fifteen like feral animals?
- 39:59Speaker 1: No, Jenny, It's like why were we all stray cats
- 40:03Speaker 1: like yipping and heating when I was like walking around
- 40:07Speaker 1: with this like conglomerate of like fifteen other middle schoolers.
- 40:10Speaker 1: And it's like Christine is able to go to Abercromie
- 40:13Speaker 1: and Fitch and I can't because I one can't afford
- 40:16Speaker 1: it too, can't fit into any of it.
- 40:18Speaker 2: And also can't deal with the wave of fierce colone no.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Chloroform.
- 40:24Speaker 2: I'm fainting and the lights are so dark and the
- 40:28Speaker 2: music is so loud.
- 40:29Speaker 1: It's like, why am I an unter right? I'm literally eleven.
- 40:34Speaker 1: I didn't consent to this, it's too much.
- 40:37Speaker 2: No, I'm like, but you are on the list, I.
- 40:39Speaker 3: Am, I'm always on the list. No, I'm walking in.
- 40:42Speaker 1: Also, what's like Abercrommie and Fitch where there was like
- 40:45Speaker 1: am I remembering correctly, like wood paneled shutter.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Yeah that was Abercrommie and Hollister, Yes.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Both of them, but me Fitch couldn't afford Hollister, So
- 40:57Speaker 1: I'm just kind of like mosying around seal walking out
- 41:02Speaker 1: with like a very thin gold scarf covered in sequence,
- 41:07Speaker 1: and I'm like, I guess I'm the fagot from High
- 41:09Speaker 1: School Musical. I guess that's my role in the rye Ryan.
- 41:15Speaker 1: I guess that's what I'm doing. But then the thing
- 41:17Speaker 1: with the mall is I would only go if I
- 41:19Speaker 1: was anything as a teen is I was hungry.
- 41:22Speaker 3: I was.
- 41:26Speaker 2: It's like it's like I was like Beyonce and the
- 41:29Speaker 2: Homecoming documentary, which goes and I'm hungry.
- 41:32Speaker 3: And I was hungry.
- 41:33Speaker 1: So everyone else is trying to like fit into their
- 41:36Speaker 1: skinny jeans and I'm like.
- 41:37Speaker 3: I'm trying to go to a Pandim Express.
- 41:40Speaker 1: I'm trying to go to anti Ann's Orange Julius, let's go.
- 41:44Speaker 2: I'm trying to go get a free sample outside the
- 41:47Speaker 2: Chinese food.
- 41:47Speaker 3: Oh my god. Sam.
- 41:48Speaker 1: I was walking by and they were like holding out
- 41:50Speaker 1: with the toothpicks, and I was like, one more one.
- 41:53Speaker 2: You just keep walking by doing characters really French accents, mustache,
- 41:58Speaker 2: I'm going to wet sea?
- 42:00Speaker 3: Wait did?
- 42:01Speaker 1: Were y'all wearing many tank tops as children.
- 42:05Speaker 4: I was definitely. I definitely had was a pop collar kid.
- 42:08Speaker 3: Holy that is so fucking cute.
- 42:10Speaker 4: And it wasn't even like pure prep. I was just
- 42:12Speaker 4: trying to be prep, but it was kind of like
- 42:13Speaker 4: half prep, like this like Polo that I got for
- 42:16Speaker 4: Christmas from like my own.
- 42:17Speaker 1: No, I was literally like wearing a custom binder because
- 42:20Speaker 1: had huge fucking boobs and wearing like fifteen tank tops
- 42:24Speaker 1: on top of myself, like alright, rip to my boobs,
- 42:28Speaker 1: like literally creating a binder out of nothing. I was like,
- 42:31Speaker 1: that's just flatten this ship down. Did your moms have
- 42:34Speaker 1: movie theaters?
- 42:35Speaker 2: No?
- 42:35Speaker 4: Not mine? Oh about are tragic?
- 42:38Speaker 3: Yes? So it's like I was also sneaking into movies.
- 42:41Speaker 4: Ooh, now, do you remember like a specific movie that
- 42:44Speaker 4: you The.
- 42:45Speaker 1: First movie I ever stuck into was Jim Carrey's horror
- 42:49Speaker 1: flick thriller The Number twenty three.
- 42:52Speaker 4: Oh, oh my god, deep Cut, Deep Cut, It's about numerology.
- 42:57Speaker 1: And Chang two thousand and seven, I would say two
- 43:00Speaker 1: thousand and seven. Yes, it was this numerology thriller where
- 43:04Speaker 1: Jim Carrey was like, I'm not the funny guy anymore.
- 43:07Speaker 3: I'm not a center.
- 43:08Speaker 1: I'm a serious actor, and it's this movie where he
- 43:11Speaker 1: is haunted by the numerology mysticism of the number twenty three,
- 43:18Speaker 1: where he's finding it in all everywhere. He's finding it
- 43:21Speaker 1: in nine to eleven, he's finding it in Babylon, he's
- 43:23Speaker 1: finding it when Julius Caesar was assassinated.
- 43:26Speaker 2: So there's a scene where he's like on googling, crunching
- 43:30Speaker 2: the number. Yeah, is this calculator, I'll post Eternal Sunshine.
- 43:35Speaker 3: I don't know. I want to say pre.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Which I've never seen. There was. What I'm realizing now
- 43:41Speaker 2: is there's a couple of years and I think it's
- 43:43Speaker 2: when I was in college when I just wasn't really
- 43:46Speaker 2: seeing movies. I wasn't seeing like the populist movies that
- 43:51Speaker 2: were being released because I was here going to college
- 43:53Speaker 2: and I was just like going to clubs everything.
- 43:56Speaker 3: You're commuting, yeah, and doing drugs.
- 43:59Speaker 4: When you said Jim Carrey's and then paused, I was
- 44:02Speaker 4: just I was really nervous. I was like, what movie
- 44:05Speaker 4: is it going to be? Because like Jim Carrey's like
- 44:07Speaker 4: era of movies was like crazy, like from The Ace
- 44:10Speaker 4: Venture to like his Sad Girl era to that was
- 44:13Speaker 4: like eternal Sunshine. What was the other sad girl movie
- 44:17Speaker 4: that he did around that time? I can't remember.
- 44:21Speaker 2: That.
- 44:21Speaker 1: I just really love him, and now he's just kind
- 44:24Speaker 1: of like, I don't know, man, he's just some like
- 44:27Speaker 1: Venice Beach burnout walking on.
- 44:30Speaker 2: He's all Jim Carrey, I want to suck.
- 44:37Speaker 3: And I think.
- 44:39Speaker 2: That there's a movie that he's in where he Oh.
- 44:42Speaker 2: I think it's maybe First Bite where this I don't
- 44:45Speaker 2: know this vampire falls in love with him and he's
- 44:48Speaker 2: very twinky.
- 44:49Speaker 3: Me myself and I reen oh.
- 44:53Speaker 1: And I just feel like, I don't know if he's
- 44:55Speaker 1: come out about it publicly, but I just feel like
- 44:57Speaker 1: he would apologize for the ace Tura trans misogyny Dick reveal.
- 45:04Speaker 2: He totally was also I love you Philip Morris. I
- 45:07Speaker 2: love you Philip Morris so hot. Yeah, it's actually like
- 45:13Speaker 2: a very sweet love style.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Yes, and one of the strongest. You should have sex
- 45:17Speaker 3: with him.
- 45:17Speaker 2: I will, I will, Jim, if you're out there, Definitely,
- 45:21Speaker 2: I consent.
- 45:21Speaker 3: But I remember that movie.
- 45:24Speaker 1: I I don't remember if it was no, No, it was
- 45:26Speaker 1: definitely one of the Judd Apatow movies because I was
- 45:29Speaker 1: speaking into all of those, because I was like these
- 45:31Speaker 1: are so trans masculine in a way. I'm I can
- 45:38Speaker 1: actually see it convinced that Jonah Hill has a vagina.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Like I just like I really do think that he
- 45:44Speaker 1: is a trans man who's just like super stout and
- 45:47Speaker 1: will never find out. He just is like he's a
- 45:50Speaker 1: late bloomer in that way where I watched the like therapy.
- 45:53Speaker 4: Mode, I was gonna ask you about that.
- 45:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I did watch it, and it's funny because I'm
- 45:57Speaker 1: just like such a sagittarius where I was like, bitch,
- 45:59Speaker 1: I've already been doing this, Like basically he's just like
- 46:02Speaker 1: with his therapist writing sigils. I'm like, I have been
- 46:06Speaker 1: doing this in my like pagan.
- 46:08Speaker 3: Witch practice since I was seven years old, have you.
- 46:12Speaker 4: It's like it's literally just like a it's it's Jonah
- 46:14Speaker 4: Hill thinks his therapist is like a genius. Yes, like
- 46:17Speaker 4: tapes his own.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Therapy and it is really presh And I just like
- 46:20Speaker 1: love people talking about therapy, even though I don't know
- 46:23Speaker 1: like therapy can work for you or it can't, like
- 46:25Speaker 1: it's up to you. But part of one of the
- 46:27Speaker 1: practices that he does with his therapist is that you
- 46:30Speaker 1: like create a drawing that's like a roun or a
- 46:33Speaker 1: sigil that is a way to like explain a traumatic situation,
- 46:39Speaker 1: and you like basically like concoct a spell to like
- 46:43Speaker 1: give it this like mnemonic device.
- 46:46Speaker 3: I know, Like it's really beautiful.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Was I learned how to do that for my like
- 46:51Speaker 1: witch mom Ilva. It's like it's it is like a
- 46:54Speaker 1: pagan practice to do that. But I'm like, however, you
- 46:56Speaker 1: can learn these tools and you're sharing with other people,
- 46:59Speaker 1: like that's the meaning.
- 47:00Speaker 2: It's just you got it for free and he's paying,
- 47:02Speaker 2: you know, Like.
- 47:04Speaker 1: But his like tattoos are really trans masculine, where it's
- 47:06Speaker 1: super like you transitioned a little late in life and
- 47:10Speaker 1: now you just like go to a tattoo shop that's
- 47:12Speaker 1: called like anchor panther and you're getting like eagle, you know,
- 47:18Speaker 1: egle mom tattoo, your birthdate exactly, panther, snake with the dagger,
- 47:25Speaker 1: Like those are all of his tattoos right away, And
- 47:27Speaker 1: I'm like, it's trans guy.
- 47:28Speaker 2: Would you fuck j Hill?
- 47:31Speaker 3: No? But not for any reason.
- 47:33Speaker 1: I just think that like two goofy guys wouldn't necessarily
- 47:37Speaker 1: have good sex.
- 47:37Speaker 2: You're too goofy.
- 47:38Speaker 3: We're just it's two goofy guys.
- 47:40Speaker 4: Did you know that there's a goofy tribe on Grinder?
- 47:43Speaker 3: Now? Wait, what does that mean? It's like.
- 47:47Speaker 2: There's what does that mean?
- 47:48Speaker 4: There are like multiple they're like a handful of tags,
- 47:51Speaker 4: like one hundred or so tags that you can act
- 47:53Speaker 4: to your profile, and one of them is goofy.
- 47:55Speaker 3: What does that mean?
- 47:57Speaker 4: I think it's just like, yeah, like you don't take
- 47:59Speaker 4: it like it's I don't know, there isn't like a
- 48:03Speaker 4: serious tag.
- 48:04Speaker 2: You know. I wish there was this, man, I know
- 48:08Speaker 2: you would love the serious rolling.
- 48:11Speaker 4: I found it literally last night and I added it
- 48:14Speaker 4: to my profile for like three minutes, and I was like, no,
- 48:16Speaker 4: I can't do this.
- 48:17Speaker 2: No. That is so because you know, sometimes when someone
- 48:21Speaker 2: messages you on Grinder, it shows you what tag they
- 48:24Speaker 2: found you via, yes, and so imagine imagine getting a
- 48:28Speaker 2: message and it says found you via the goofy tag.
- 48:31Speaker 2: That's that's only how I find guys on Grinder is
- 48:34Speaker 2: the goofy tag?
- 48:34Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, But I also.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Think that's super bad as super trans because they were
- 48:39Speaker 1: just like obsessed with drawing their own genitalia in a way.
- 48:43Speaker 1: Then I just think it's kind of transgender. Okay, it's
- 48:46Speaker 1: like it's like they just had like folders and folders
- 48:49Speaker 1: like filled up with cock and I'm like same, I
- 48:53Speaker 1: just think it's kind of trans. But I remember I
- 48:55Speaker 1: think it was super Bad that I stuck into because
- 48:57Speaker 1: I wasn't seventeen yet or maybe knocked up.
- 49:00Speaker 4: Or was like super rated R movie. I remember like
- 49:03Speaker 4: at the time, like you know, my.
- 49:05Speaker 3: It was so.
- 49:07Speaker 1: It was so foul and my parents were like, you're
- 49:09Speaker 1: not allowed to see that. My parents were super strict,
- 49:11Speaker 1: but I snuck in with my friends. And then one
- 49:15Speaker 1: of the attendantcy AMC attendants was like checking tickets because
- 49:18Speaker 1: we would buy a ticket to another movie and then
- 49:20Speaker 1: go to Super Bad. So I could see the attendant
- 49:23Speaker 1: coming up. So I turned to this like dad next week,
- 49:26Speaker 1: and I was like, can you pretend to be my dad?
- 49:28Speaker 3: And he was like yeah, absolutely.
- 49:30Speaker 1: So when the attendant came and was like, let me
- 49:32Speaker 1: see your ticket, the dad was like, this is my child,
- 49:35Speaker 1: and you won't leave them alone. We are trying to
- 49:37Speaker 1: watch a movie right now, and I was like whoa.
- 49:40Speaker 2: And then they tried to lure you back to your
- 49:41Speaker 2: car and.
- 49:42Speaker 3: Groomer, and I was like to catch a bread.
- 49:46Speaker 2: No.
- 49:47Speaker 3: I mean, I don't think I was not groomable. I
- 49:50Speaker 3: was a weird looking kid. I was groomble. I was
- 49:55Speaker 3: like six football and two hundred pounds.
- 49:58Speaker 2: There's a lot of with a lot of different tables.
- 50:04Speaker 2: He wanted to, Amen, Amen, there's someone out there who
- 50:12Speaker 2: would have wanted to take you. I believe that. I
- 50:15Speaker 2: believe that, I.
- 50:16Speaker 3: Really, my inner child really needed to hear that.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Without a doubt, that's what I was doing at them all,
- 50:21Speaker 1: speaking into movies and going to the food court to
- 50:25Speaker 1: get snacks.
- 50:27Speaker 4: Did y'all have like a cinnabon sabarro combo? Yes, we
- 50:31Speaker 4: had one of those.
- 50:32Speaker 2: Yes, we did not have a ciborrow. I don't. I
- 50:34Speaker 2: don't think we had a cinnabon either.
- 50:36Speaker 1: We've also had all of the At the time, I
- 50:39Speaker 1: thought that these were like the pinnacle of fine dining,
- 50:42Speaker 1: which are like the fat the not fast casual, but
- 50:46Speaker 1: like upscale casual chains like McCormick and.
- 50:50Speaker 4: Schmicks, California Pizza Kitchen.
- 50:52Speaker 3: California Mother Fucking Pizza Kitchen.
- 50:55Speaker 1: Fran say that say that I was being my parents
- 50:59Speaker 1: every day.
- 51:00Speaker 3: Let us go to CPK, let us go to CPACH.
- 51:02Speaker 2: I need that you see, my mall was a little
- 51:06Speaker 2: too bougie because when when we moved to Florida and
- 51:10Speaker 2: I used to live from Boston, I actually used to
- 51:13Speaker 2: live across the street from the mall. That was like
- 51:15Speaker 2: the first place we lived in Scia. And at that
- 51:18Speaker 2: era of my life, there was a TGI Fridays there
- 51:20Speaker 2: and I remember having a birthday party there once and
- 51:22Speaker 2: singing along to Umbob. But then the mall got a
- 51:26Speaker 2: little more chic, and so the only restaurants were a
- 51:31Speaker 2: little more upscale. So we used to have this place
- 51:33Speaker 2: called Stir Crazy, which was like I love Pan Asian,
- 51:39Speaker 2: you know, Wonderland. That because Ariana Grande grew up in
- 51:43Speaker 2: Boca as well. Well she's well she's from del Rey,
- 51:46Speaker 2: and I think she said before in an interview that
- 51:48Speaker 2: she loved Stir Crazy.
- 51:51Speaker 3: Did you all have cheesecake factory?
- 51:52Speaker 2: Yes, Roses Cheesecake. Actually it wasn't It wasn't attached to
- 51:56Speaker 2: the mall, but it was nearby. It was my f
- 52:02Speaker 2: was my shit that?
- 52:05Speaker 3: Did you have magic Pan?
- 52:07Speaker 2: No?
- 52:07Speaker 3: That was like the crapy one.
- 52:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I've heard of that. I never bet how I became.
- 52:12Speaker 1: Actually recently I asked a friend if they were by
- 52:15Speaker 1: and she was like, no, I'm pan. I was like,
- 52:17Speaker 1: I love that throwback. That's so like Lilith Fair, like
- 52:21Speaker 1: you with a tambourine. I was like, okay, Sarah McLaughlin.
- 52:24Speaker 2: Yeah, so Bushwick twenty seventeen.
- 52:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I was like, let's get pan.
- 52:29Speaker 1: But I had Did you have almond moms like skinny parents?
- 52:32Speaker 6: No?
- 52:33Speaker 2: My mom was ok so passed down from my grandma.
- 52:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 52:37Speaker 2: My mom was always on some kind of diet. Yeah,
- 52:40Speaker 2: much like my grandma was when I was a kid.
- 52:43Speaker 2: I remember there was one year where my grandma only
- 52:46Speaker 2: eight frozen yogurt, like we would go, we would go.
- 52:50Speaker 2: It was playing with toppings. It was. It was when
- 52:54Speaker 2: my grandparents still lived in Long Island. They had a house.
- 52:59Speaker 2: My grandparents were snowbirds, so they lived on Long Island,
- 53:02Speaker 2: but they had a house in Boca where they would
- 53:04Speaker 2: spend the winter. But we would go up and visit
- 53:07Speaker 2: them on Long Island and they would take us to
- 53:08Speaker 2: the diner and everyone order food and my grandma would
- 53:11Speaker 2: just order frozen yoga. And she always had like bars
- 53:15Speaker 2: in the house, like protein bars, and she has this
- 53:18Speaker 2: reusable weight Watchers thermos that she's had like front for
- 53:23Speaker 2: as long as I can remember. And the last time
- 53:25Speaker 2: I was at their house, it was sitting on on
- 53:26Speaker 2: the counter and I started crying.
- 53:30Speaker 3: Why were you crying?
- 53:31Speaker 2: Just because it like triggered this memory, Like that to
- 53:34Speaker 2: me is so comforting, but it also like is a
- 53:36Speaker 2: symbol of the my grandma's horrible.
- 53:43Speaker 3: This entire time.
- 53:44Speaker 2: It's so depressing, I know. And she's still like we
- 53:47Speaker 2: we'll go out to dinner and she'll always ask for
- 53:49Speaker 2: the salad with dressing on the side. Just get anything fattening,
- 53:53Speaker 2: and it's like, babe, like you might not be here
- 53:55Speaker 2: for that much longer, Like get them, get get toppings
- 53:58Speaker 2: on the frozen yogurt, chicken.
- 54:02Speaker 3: Put the mochi on your frozen yoga the little dice strawberries.
- 54:07Speaker 4: Did you have an almond?
- 54:08Speaker 2: Mommy?
- 54:09Speaker 3: I had an almond.
- 54:10Speaker 1: My mom is really like eating disorders, like really skinny,
- 54:14Speaker 1: like doesn't salt her food.
- 54:16Speaker 3: We didn't even have mashed potatoes.
- 54:18Speaker 1: She would make mashomatoes with carrots, which is like actually
- 54:22Speaker 1: so oppressive and like so dark. But then she also
- 54:26Speaker 1: was like can I have a bite of that? Like
- 54:28Speaker 1: so she'll just kind a bite of that. She's picking mom,
- 54:32Speaker 1: But she is like, I don't add salt anything, it's
- 54:34Speaker 1: bad for you. She also literally believes anything that Oprah
- 54:38Speaker 1: Winfrey has ever said, and anything that like.
- 54:41Speaker 3: MSN dot com says, you know.
- 54:44Speaker 1: So she's like, I don't eat salmon anymore because there's
- 54:46Speaker 1: mercury in it.
- 54:47Speaker 2: But I know it's so hard to be a fat
- 54:51Speaker 2: kid skitty with an almond.
- 54:54Speaker 1: And then my dad, dad, who was always dining so
- 55:00Speaker 1: like he and like now he's skinny, but in the
- 55:03Speaker 1: scary way where he just looks like a fucking bowling pin.
- 55:07Speaker 2: Where it's just like from being old. Yeah, because men
- 55:10Speaker 2: get thin as they exactly.
- 55:12Speaker 1: But he also it's like we don't really talk anymore.
- 55:14Speaker 1: But when we were talking, I'd be like you okay,
- 55:16Speaker 1: you sound weak and he was like.
- 55:18Speaker 3: Well, it's my fasting day.
- 55:20Speaker 1: I was like, a bitch, you're yelling at me because
- 55:22Speaker 1: you're fucking hungry, like have like have a steak, have
- 55:25Speaker 1: a snickers. Where he was always like putting me on
- 55:28Speaker 1: juice cleanses and me on, like you'll play light.
- 55:32Speaker 2: Oh, I have to go to weight Watchers.
- 55:33Speaker 3: I was on weight.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Watchers as a kid. I was on at Cans. I'm like,
- 55:37Speaker 1: you were putting to.
- 55:37Speaker 2: Go to the nutritionists.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Yes, you're putting a twelve year old on Atkins where
- 55:41Speaker 1: all they're having is like bacon and.
- 55:43Speaker 3: Turkey sausage, like you hate me, you hate me.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Hate me, where it's like I can't have bread, but
- 55:49Speaker 1: I can have like I can have like.
- 55:52Speaker 3: Steak twice a day.
- 55:55Speaker 1: Like it's not making sense and like all the what
- 55:58Speaker 1: not because I want.
- 55:59Speaker 3: Like this is not a good vibe.
- 56:02Speaker 1: So the mall to me was like I was able
- 56:04Speaker 1: to like cheat and go to day. I would be
- 56:07Speaker 1: able to go to cheat day and not tell them
- 56:08Speaker 1: and they'd like, what did you eat? And I'd be like, salad,
- 56:11Speaker 1: but really I was grass, going fucking ham or say
- 56:16Speaker 1: I okay.
- 56:17Speaker 2: I used to love something the Italian sandwich specifically, so
- 56:21Speaker 2: when my mom was dating who eventually became my step dad,
- 56:26Speaker 2: they would go on dates on Saturday nights and I
- 56:28Speaker 2: would stay home alone and my brother would usually be
- 56:30Speaker 2: at Are.
- 56:31Speaker 3: You the oldest?
- 56:32Speaker 2: I'm the oldest of my Yes, I'm the oldest. Technically
- 56:37Speaker 2: my dad has a I have an older half brother
- 56:40Speaker 2: from another marriage, but we didn't grow up together. So
- 56:42Speaker 2: like of the kids that I grew up with, I
- 56:43Speaker 2: was the oldest. So I got to like, I got
- 56:45Speaker 2: to spend Saturday nights alone and would be like, okay,
- 56:48Speaker 2: well we'll go rent you a video from Blockbustern and
- 56:50Speaker 2: get you something to eat. And what I always wanted
- 56:52Speaker 2: was to get subway from the gas station that had
- 56:54Speaker 2: a subway attached to it. And I don't know, but
- 56:57Speaker 2: I loved it. And then if it tastes like yoga,
- 56:59Speaker 2: bat well, Now eventually I graduated to I would like
- 57:03Speaker 2: watch My Sex and the City box SE's and order
- 57:05Speaker 2: Chinese food. But you were gay, you are gay gay,
- 57:10Speaker 2: but there.
- 57:11Speaker 3: Is I don't think your parents could have done to
- 57:12Speaker 3: stop this trade.
- 57:13Speaker 4: And you know that the subway the subway bread, and
- 57:16Speaker 4: like I think Ireland or the UK is legally cannot
- 57:19Speaker 4: be constituted as bread.
- 57:22Speaker 2: Because it's very porous. But when I was sugar, when
- 57:26Speaker 2: I was in middle school, I would tear up a
- 57:28Speaker 2: chicken karaokee.
- 57:29Speaker 3: Si, how about pop Elly's, you'll have that at your.
- 57:32Speaker 2: Love Polly john Sloop Jimmy John Tho. Yeah, Jimmy is
- 57:39Speaker 2: good though, And there's one near where I live. I
- 57:42Speaker 2: have gone there.
- 57:43Speaker 1: No, but the Pheromona Jimmy John's is so stale.
- 57:47Speaker 3: I'm like, it is not like the air it's like airplane.
- 57:49Speaker 2: But I love that related for is good. It is good.
- 57:53Speaker 1: It's like I feel like Jimmy John's is like the sexy.
- 57:58Speaker 3: Tweakers work there, you know what I mean.
- 58:00Speaker 2: Yes, the guys who like invite you over at four
- 58:04Speaker 2: a m. And they can only fun if there's pouring on.
- 58:10Speaker 1: Where it's they can't really keep it up on their
- 58:12Speaker 1: androids when they're making their sandwich. They're watching them sung on.
- 58:16Speaker 3: Their Samsung Galaxies.
- 58:17Speaker 1: It's like they have poorn up and you taste it
- 58:19Speaker 1: in the sandwich and it's kind of but Subway is
- 58:22Speaker 1: kind of a little bit more like perk.
- 58:24Speaker 3: It's a little bit more like you're barely away.
- 58:27Speaker 2: It's a out barbituates yea boots.
- 58:49Speaker 1: And your pot belly is that you have was there
- 58:52Speaker 1: like aloft in the pot bellies people.
- 58:57Speaker 2: What not that pot.
- 58:58Speaker 3: Belly has had?
- 58:59Speaker 1: Like he had literally an open mic where like people
- 59:03Speaker 1: who were still in my hometown, like men who never left,
- 59:07Speaker 1: would like climb up this ladder to the loft and
- 59:10Speaker 1: play John Mayer. It's like I would be ordering my
- 59:12Speaker 1: Italian sub hearing this guy named Tyler singing like waiting
- 59:16Speaker 1: for the world to change, and I was like, I
- 59:19Speaker 1: need to get the fuck out of Hollow Park before
- 59:22Speaker 1: it swallows me.
- 59:23Speaker 4: The Jason Ras covers in in my suburb were playing
- 59:26Speaker 4: at the Borders bookstore cafe. Oh yeah, that was There
- 59:30Speaker 4: was definitely an open mic scenario there where there was
- 59:32Speaker 4: like also like slam poetry, probably.
- 59:34Speaker 2: Talk about where I grew up. It is the Border's
- 59:37Speaker 2: bookstore cafe. Also it's also where I got my bars at.
- 59:42Speaker 3: The Borders were so good.
- 59:44Speaker 2: Really was not much your boyfriend as a thirty year
- 59:50Speaker 2: old man who who picked me up out outside of

- 1:00:25Speaker 2: to this thirty one year old guy's house and letting
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: him come in my ass.
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: Well, okay, so made you a better woman? I did.
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: Literally my first boyfriend, I was still in the closet

- 1:00:47Speaker 4: had a key to my mom's office and I why, yes,
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: she trusted you.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: I mean, I don't want to trust sucked in your mind.
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: I don't know if I had it or if I
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: would steal it because I knew my mom like working
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: hours or whatever. But I would go to my mom's
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: office in Hinsdale late at night.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: It's like the nice It's like the Boca of the Southwest, okay.

- 1:01:45Speaker 2: when did those like spring into existence?
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: The sticks?
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: I feel like when Sharper image came to Oh I

- 1:02:22Speaker 1: Eastern European refugee that like the only job that she
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: can get. I'm like, why is Olga straightening my hair
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: right now? But I was like literally, but I was like,
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: she's hot. I remember that the girls working at the
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: kiosks were so sexy.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: That's crazy. But the mom and my sister's hair. That
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: was so accurate. But they were also had been sex traffic.

- 1:02:57Speaker 3: with her.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: Speaking of hair treatments, I like exclusively got my hair
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: done at the salon at the mall justwhere. When I
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: was sixteen, I got my hair chemically straightened. No, no,
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: you did not. It was like to my shoulders. You
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: were so okay, give me once again.
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: Okay. I was worried for you.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: Why did you make that alive?
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: Because when a kid is that much of a faggot,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: they don't always make it.
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: They were letting you out. My kid was that gay.
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: I'm homeschooling now.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: I almost didn't make it, but I went to an
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: art school. That's how I survived.
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: You were famed.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I did not have public.
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: No, because you should not be allowed to go to
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: public in that gay No.

- 1:04:14Speaker 2: No, I well I might, actually it must.
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: What was were there? Was there like how many years
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: were you a goth? Because goths are allowed?
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: That was the middle. Okay, so this is the trajectory.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: Middle school was goth like mal goth topic, and then
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: like yeah, and then like freshman year, freshman to sophomore
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: year of high school. Then junior year was when I
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: was like Abercrombie America Hollister, and then my last year
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: of high school was like Indie like Converse r.
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: Like Zoe era.
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: Goths were definitely like you know, I was obsessed with them. Yes,
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: they were like on the outskirts of society, but like
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: you know, a mab goths were like allowed to be
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: gay for something.
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: Oh my god, they sucking and fucking. Yes.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: Yes, there was a click of guys in my high
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: school that I was really obsessed with because they were
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: all like rocker bisexuals and they all just like fucked
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: each other. Then they had hot girlfriends. That's how do
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: I tap in.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: I had to transition, That's what I knew.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: I was like, this world is not going to work
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: out for me in this way because I have a
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: little thing bubbling up in my mind called being transgender
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: that I will not learn about until later.
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: But I was so obsessed with them in high school.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: I was like giant tall tea covering up my whole
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: body with like Bob Marley turning into a lion. That's
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: what I would wear, and like jeans and chucks that
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: was my.
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: I was them.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: I was going to the store that was like the
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Native American store at the very suburban troupe, but I
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: like was wearing the shirts that had like bowl on it.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: That's like Homeland Security, because.
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: I was like the Mountain, Yeah, you were trying to
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: you were pro indigenous.
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: I was like, hello, I have a feeling I'm on
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: stolen land right now. I'm gonna fucking do something about it, bitch.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: And what you were going to do?
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: Sure? That was the original land acknowledgement. He wearing a
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: shirt in high school was sitting bull on it. And
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: I was still from urban outfitters.
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: Obviously, Well that's you know powers to the people one.
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: Hundred percent, and I would get caught and I would
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: just run and catch the train.
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: I've never I don't know if I did. I tell
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: this in the pod last time. I got caught stealing
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: from Urban Outfitters and I was like banned for like
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: ten years.
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: It's so traumagized. Did your parents find out?
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: No?
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: No, Because I was in college by that, no one
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: would have to.
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: I was stealing from a mayor pair in Urban Outfitters.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: I got caught stealing from Universal Studios and was banned
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: for seven years. But then I transitioned. So what were
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: they going to do?
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: Are they going to do? Good? Good luck?
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: Feeling car Potter day, I knew I looked in your eyes.
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: And she tried. I knew that J k Rawlling was
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: a turf and before she came out and I was
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: rec I was not going to give her my money.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: How did a wand? This feels like really easy to steal,
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: no offense, it's.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: A big box. But it was a big box and
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: I had to get the wand down and then I
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: stuck it up the sleeve of my shirt. I actually, like,
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: I think in a mall, I would have gotten away
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: with it, but universal like they there shoppers.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: Yeah, were you Harry Potter? I was, yes, and you
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: obviously I was waiting.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: At I have a deathly hallows tattoos down. I do
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: not know. I did fill it in before she even
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: came out as a turf, because I was like, something
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: smells you.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: Your intuition was telling you something was going to go awry.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: I knew you, fucking I knew without I knew with
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: my chemically straightened hair, you.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Got a whiff of something. No, I wasn't Harry Potter.
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: Oh.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: What I was reading in high school and middle school
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: were those books called like crank Do you know what
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: I'm talking about? Okay, where it's like these really big
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: books and then the cover all about like a different drug,
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: different vice ruining a woman's life.
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: And I only I just read those.
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: It was in the kind of go ask alice and
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: cut genre.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: Precisely hair called my book would have been called like weed.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: My book would have been called like weed, and it
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: would have been like a five hundred page book about
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: me like really wanting to dread my hair, but knowing
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: that I wasn't allowed to do that.
