- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's go back to hearing from the two head coaches
- 0:03Speaker 1: for this Chick fil A Peach Bowl that will be
- 0:07Speaker 1: coming up on New Year's Day. As we know, it
- 0:11Speaker 1: will be a week from Wednesday, and so it's nine
- 0:14Speaker 1: days away and you'll hear it here on AM thirteen
- 0:18Speaker 1: under the Zone. Our coverage will begin at nine o'clock
- 0:21Speaker 1: in the morning with long runs game day with the
- 0:25Speaker 1: kickoff and in a network airtime at eleven AM and
- 0:29Speaker 1: the kickoff at noon Central time. Texas and Arizona State.
- 0:34Speaker 1: All right, let's hear from the head coach of Speaking
- 0:36Speaker 1: of Texas and Arizona State, there's several former long runs
- 0:39Speaker 1: around the Arizona State roster and Sark was asked for
- 0:42Speaker 1: his thoughts. I'm going up against some of his former players.
- 0:44Speaker 2: You know.
- 0:45Speaker 3: I think this is college football in twenty twenty four,
- 0:49Speaker 3: you know, and moving forward. It's almost got a little
- 0:52Speaker 3: bit of an NFL feel that way, you know. And
- 0:55Speaker 3: I'm happy for all those guys, you know, especially the
- 0:57Speaker 3: guys that are having some success.
- 1:00Speaker 2: In Coach Dillingham's program.
- 1:02Speaker 3: You know, in this day and age of college football,
- 1:04Speaker 3: it's about creating opportunities for our young people and the
- 1:08Speaker 3: way the transfer portal works, and when new coaches get
- 1:12Speaker 3: jobs and half their roster. I'm sure when Kenny took
- 1:15Speaker 3: over at Arizona State jump ship and now he's trying
- 1:18Speaker 3: to fill his roster, and so that creates opportunities for
- 1:20Speaker 3: other players and other programs to maybe go there and
- 1:23Speaker 3: contribute and find a role that's different than maybe their
- 1:26Speaker 3: role was here, and vice versa for that matter. And
- 1:29Speaker 3: so I'm happy for all those guys that they had
- 1:32Speaker 3: this opportunity. You know, you transfer schools and you never know,
- 1:36Speaker 3: we go to transfer to have an opportunity to get
- 1:38Speaker 3: in the College Football Playoff for those things in reality,
- 1:42Speaker 3: and for them to be, you know, in in the
- 1:43Speaker 3: quarterfinal the CFP, I'm really happy for those guys. And so,
- 1:48Speaker 3: you know, I know our players are you know, they
- 1:50Speaker 3: were kind of talking about today so and so yeah,
- 1:52Speaker 3: so and so you know that the name started popping
- 1:54Speaker 3: up again today. So, but I do think that's the
- 1:57Speaker 3: era of college football where we're at now. It's twenty
- 1:59Speaker 3: twenty four, the portals alive and well, and you know
- 2:03Speaker 3: twenty twenty five is gonna roll around.
- 2:04Speaker 2: There'll be more faces moving around, all right.
- 2:06Speaker 1: So then Dillingham was asked on the counter the thoughts
- 2:12Speaker 1: that or the feedback he's gotten from his guys who
- 2:15Speaker 1: had played at Texas and transferred to Arizona State.
- 2:18Speaker 2: What's the vibe he's.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Getting from those guys about going up against the former school.
- 2:22Speaker 4: That's the nature of the Beasts right now is people
- 2:25Speaker 4: will be moving around, You'll be playing your former teammates.
- 2:28Speaker 4: And I mean, at the end of the day, we're
- 2:30Speaker 4: playing in the Peach Bowl with eight teams left.
- 2:33Speaker 2: If that is more energy, then something's wrong with you.
- 2:37Speaker 4: If you need external factors to get excited to play
- 2:40Speaker 4: this game, you're at the wrong program here. You know,
- 2:45Speaker 4: we want people who are competitive. Where's eight teams left
- 2:48Speaker 4: in college football? This about competing verus one of the
- 2:51Speaker 4: best teams in the country in the Peach Bowl and
- 2:55Speaker 4: all one hundred and twenty of our guys get to go,
- 2:57Speaker 4: all one hundred and twenty of their guys get to go.
- 2:59Speaker 4: And UH experienced what college football is about, and that's
- 3:03Speaker 4: competing in.
- 3:03Speaker 2: One of the biggest bowl games.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Next question for Sark is about gunner Helm and he
- 3:09Speaker 1: continues being the long Wars leading leading receiver, called a
- 3:12Speaker 1: big touchdown pass and was asked about Gunner's role in
- 3:15Speaker 1: the offense.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Yeah, so Gunner, Yeah, I think we all know the path,
- 3:19Speaker 3: his journey, the development that he's that he's had in
- 3:22Speaker 3: our in our program.
- 3:23Speaker 2: You know, I'm I'm super proud of him.
- 3:25Speaker 3: But I like about Gunner's you know, he's a really
- 3:27Speaker 3: versatile guy. You know, we we rely on him to
- 3:30Speaker 3: block the Syria. Uh he you know, he has some
- 3:33Speaker 3: tough matchups against some of these six techniques that he's
- 3:35Speaker 3: that he's blocking. He had a couple of tough matchups
- 3:37Speaker 3: the other night when they moved the three technique out
- 3:40Speaker 3: to defensive end. It was not a favorable matchup. But
- 3:43Speaker 3: he fights for us in the Syria and he does
- 3:45Speaker 3: a great job. He's a he's a really good play
- 3:47Speaker 3: action pass tight end where we can find voids for him,
- 3:51Speaker 3: but he also has evolved his game now into a
- 3:55Speaker 3: down the field threat and a guy who can make
- 3:58Speaker 3: plays with the ball in his hands with with yards.
- 4:00Speaker 2: After the catch.
- 4:01Speaker 3: And I do think his catcher radius is a positive
- 4:05Speaker 3: of his and I think Quinn trusts that from him
- 4:09Speaker 3: that he's going to be where he's supposed to be
- 4:12Speaker 3: and that his catch radius is what he is and
- 4:14Speaker 3: so he can place balls in certain spots that he
- 4:16Speaker 3: knows maybe if Gunner doesn't catch it, it's probably incomplete.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And they've just got good rapport.
- 4:21Speaker 3: You know, they've been together for three years now and
- 4:23Speaker 3: I think there's a lot of trust there.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and then Dylan Ambles asked about Gunner Hilm and
- 4:28Speaker 1: the challenges that the long range tight end faces for
- 4:32Speaker 1: his group.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Overall, really good player.
- 4:34Speaker 4: They do a good job getting him open the middle
- 4:37Speaker 4: of the field with the play action game, the screen game,
- 4:40Speaker 4: and then they use the width of the field so
- 4:42Speaker 4: well that the middle of the field opens up for
- 4:44Speaker 4: his game.
- 4:45Speaker 2: And his length and.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Size and the fact that he is a good seria
- 4:48Speaker 4: blocker sets everything up in between the ashes for them,
- 4:51Speaker 4: whether it's vertically down the field, whether it's over the
- 4:55Speaker 4: ball spacing concepts, or whether it's screens at the line
- 4:57Speaker 4: of scrimmage. The way they up their offense really allows
- 5:01Speaker 4: a tight end to dominate in between the hashes on
- 5:04Speaker 4: early downs and I think he does a phenomenal job
- 5:08Speaker 4: of that with his catch radius and his physicality.
- 5:11Speaker 2: And then he's dynamic, you know, he catches the ball.
- 5:13Speaker 4: He has great contact balance when he catches the ball,
- 5:15Speaker 4: He's not a tight end that's clumsy and catches it
- 5:17Speaker 4: and falls. He catches it and extends completions, which is
- 5:21Speaker 4: something that you never like to see when you're going
- 5:23Speaker 4: versus tight end. You want those guys to catch it
- 5:25Speaker 4: in fall. You don't want him to catch it and run.
- 5:27Speaker 4: And that's something that he does really well.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, now back to the injury front. Sark
- 5:33Speaker 1: was asked if he thinks he'll be able to have
- 5:35Speaker 1: Isaiah Bond back on the field after Bond had to
- 5:37Speaker 1: sit out a last game and the course also couldn't
- 5:41Speaker 1: go against Texas A and M so his thoughts on Bond, Yeah, I.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Think, like I said going into last week's game, I
- 5:47Speaker 3: think Isaiah continues to make really good progress for us.
- 5:51Speaker 2: You know, obviously we're quite a ways out, so well,
- 5:54Speaker 2: my goal is.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Coming out of Christmas here that that progress continues in
- 5:57Speaker 3: a positive direction.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Then we can see where it goes from.
- 6:00Speaker 1: If you know anything about Arizona State in specific the
- 6:04Speaker 1: Sun Devil offense, it really starts with Cam Skataboo.
- 6:09Speaker 2: He is the running back.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Sam Levitt, the redshirt freshman quarterback of the transfer from
- 6:13Speaker 1: Michigan State, is done a fine job, but Cam Scataboo is.
- 6:18Speaker 2: The straw that stirs that drink. He is something else.
- 6:20Speaker 1: In fact, I'm on record I've been saying it for
- 6:23Speaker 1: weeks that while I completely understand Travis Hunter winning the
- 6:28Speaker 1: Heisman traffic, I got no problem with that. I might
- 6:32Speaker 1: have leaned toward Ashton genty a Boise he State, but
- 6:35Speaker 1: that's real close on them. But in the Big Twelve,
- 6:41Speaker 1: Travis Hunter gets a Player of the Year, but offensive
- 6:43Speaker 1: player of the Year is Shuear Sanders. I disagreed with that.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I thought Cam Scataboo was more important to his team
- 6:50Speaker 1: and what they did at Arizona State. There's no way
- 6:53Speaker 1: they're in the playoff without Scataboo's gaudy rushing numbers. So
- 6:58Speaker 1: in discussing the running back Cam Scataboom, Sark was asked
- 7:04Speaker 1: for his thoughts on trying to defend this guy.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Well, I think this. You know, he's a really versatile player.
- 7:12Speaker 3: I think when you first turn it on Cam's tape,
- 7:14Speaker 3: you're thinking you're just going to see Mike Alstatt, You're
- 7:17Speaker 3: just going to see this bruiser that's just running into
- 7:20Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage and bouncing off of people. And
- 7:23Speaker 3: then the more you watch him, you're like, man, this
- 7:25Speaker 3: guy's got really good feet. This guy's got great contact balance.
- 7:29Speaker 3: This guy, right when you think he's getting ready to
- 7:31Speaker 3: run somebody over, he makes a miss.
- 7:32Speaker 2: He uses the stiff arm. He's really good in the
- 7:34Speaker 2: open field. He can run away from you.
- 7:36Speaker 3: And then all of a sudden, you're like, but wait
- 7:37Speaker 3: a minute, this guy catches the ball really well out
- 7:40Speaker 3: of the backfield. He's got, you know, really good initial
- 7:43Speaker 3: quickness after the catch to get vertical.
- 7:46Speaker 2: And so he's a really versatile player.
- 7:47Speaker 3: You know, I was hoping he was going to be
- 7:49Speaker 3: kind of a one dimensional guy, you know when you.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Just kind of watch Sports Center and different things, or
- 7:55Speaker 2: you know, but all.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Of a sudden you start looking at the cutup of
- 7:57Speaker 3: him and the explosive plays and how they're happening. His
- 8:01Speaker 3: versatility is probably the thing that stands out to me
- 8:03Speaker 3: the most.
- 8:03Speaker 1: All Right, we're gonna hear more from Sark and also
- 8:07Speaker 1: from Kenny Dillingham, the head coach at Arizona State. It's
- 8:11Speaker 1: thirteen thirteen in that famous idahoe at Tata Bowl, and
- 8:14Speaker 1: they're down inside of the last two minutes with Fresno
- 8:16Speaker 1: State driving on northern Illinois. But we hear more from
- 8:20Speaker 1: the Beach Bowl head coaches coming up on sports Radio
- 8:22Speaker 1: AM thirteen under the Zone
