- 0:16Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode one oh nine of
- 0:19Speaker 1: Cards and Categories. I am Mike Coolard from Rasball, joined
- 0:23Speaker 1: by my very good friend per Usual, also from ras Ball.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I mean, you're always from rasball by Jeremy Burer. How
- 0:30Speaker 1: are you doing tonight, Buddy.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Doing fantastic. We are maybe four days away from the
- 0:35Speaker 2: end of the season. I guess you can counts day
- 0:36Speaker 2: five days away from the end of the season. And
- 0:39Speaker 2: I feel bad because I think it was last week
- 0:41Speaker 2: when I'm like, ah, the playoff races are pretty much
- 0:43Speaker 2: over and things like that, and I couldn't be more wrong.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Thank you Cleveland for making sure that I was completely wrong.
- 0:49Speaker 2: But it has been exciting, exciting into the season here.
- 0:53Speaker 2: So a few more days. Hopefully your rotal leagues are
- 0:56Speaker 2: treating you well as you finish up in the standings
- 1:00Speaker 2: and playoff baseball worlds there.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. I mean, we've had playoff atmospheres in Cleveland
- 1:06Speaker 1: the past couple nights. I don't know if you've got
- 1:07Speaker 1: into watching those games, but the series between Cleveland and
- 1:12Speaker 1: Detroit has felt like a playoff game every night. As
- 1:15Speaker 1: right now, I think Cleveland is up on Detroit, and
- 1:19Speaker 1: I mean They're in the driver's seat right now for
- 1:21Speaker 1: that al central. So even last week, it was two
- 1:24Speaker 1: weeks ago, especially when we were talking about, hey, things
- 1:26Speaker 1: are boring, we'll get to the end of the season,
- 1:29Speaker 1: kind of trot in. Last week, we escalated it a
- 1:32Speaker 1: little bit more. And even like I had the caveat
- 1:35Speaker 1: when I was picking Calvin Zardo for our card buys,
- 1:39Speaker 1: you might be wanting to stock up on cay Manzardo.
- 1:42Speaker 1: The Guardians are the hottest team alive right now as
- 1:45Speaker 1: we're talking on September twenty fourth. I mean, the Mariners
- 1:48Speaker 1: are right there with them, but I think that the
- 1:50Speaker 1: Etsy Witch luck is dried up finally for the Mariners
- 1:53Speaker 1: as they got a loss. But both of those teams
- 1:57Speaker 1: are right in the thick of that two seed right now.
- 2:00Speaker 1: And so the Mariners are sitting in that seat right
- 2:05Speaker 1: now over the Yankees, because the Yankees are in the
- 2:07Speaker 1: wild cards. So it's gonna be a lot of jockeying
- 2:10Speaker 1: over the next couple days of baseball because and this
- 2:15Speaker 1: is what like we live for, man, this is when
- 2:17Speaker 1: beginning is at its best. When you're just like watching
- 2:20Speaker 1: high intensity crucial moment after crucial moment across the board,
- 2:25Speaker 1: So we've got lots of great games and we might
- 2:28Speaker 1: even get to see the Houston Astros not be in
- 2:30Speaker 1: the playoffs, which is a huge bonus I think for
- 2:33Speaker 1: most baseball fans out there.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm I'm not gonna disagree with that one, but
- 2:37Speaker 2: it's it's gonna be fun because you know, I think
- 2:39Speaker 2: this is the time of year. If you get hot,
- 2:42Speaker 2: you can steam roll those playoffs. And I think you're right.
- 2:44Speaker 2: The Mariners, the Guardians, they're looking real hot, and it's
- 2:48Speaker 2: gonna be Some of those teams in the AL are
- 2:51Speaker 2: definitely scuffling the finish. Toronto is not really gonna look
- 2:55Speaker 2: so fun as they as they try to round things out.
- 2:57Speaker 2: So I think AL especially could be very very interesting.
- 2:59Speaker 2: But even the NL, the Mets have tried their best
- 3:02Speaker 2: to blow things and Cincinnati and Arizona aren't really taking
- 3:06Speaker 2: advantage at this point. And you know, arguably, hey, even
- 3:09Speaker 2: our Cardinals aren't truly out of it because there but they.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Technically went out and get that spot. Yeah, they don't
- 3:15Speaker 1: even need to win out all the way. They've got
- 3:18Speaker 1: a game of cush I believe.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Yes, I think they do. Now they need some luck
- 3:22Speaker 2: above them, but like, yeah, things are not fully written
- 3:25Speaker 2: off for a number of teams. When it did feel
- 3:27Speaker 2: not too long ago that we were pretty locked and
- 3:29Speaker 2: loaded for the postseason.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, the NL is certainly more locked at
- 3:33Speaker 1: the top five there as those teams have all already clinched,
- 3:37Speaker 1: and honestly, they whoever makes it in that sixth seed
- 3:41Speaker 1: is going to get torched by one of those top
- 3:43Speaker 1: five teams in the NL, between the Brewers, the Phillies,
- 3:46Speaker 1: the Dodgers, the Cubs, and the Padres. So all those
- 3:49Speaker 1: teams are a tier above everybody else in the NL.
- 3:51Speaker 1: But honestly, the AL is going to be a great
- 3:54Speaker 1: playoff race because it's going to be wide open no
- 3:56Speaker 1: matter who makes it in. I mean, Boston's strong. We
- 4:00Speaker 1: haven't mentioned them very much, but they have kind of
- 4:03Speaker 1: cruised into that wild card spot, the second wild card spot.
- 4:06Speaker 1: The Yankees are obviously back after going to the World
- 4:10Speaker 1: Series last year. And then if the Tigers do make
- 4:13Speaker 1: it in, do they have the fortitude to kind of
- 4:16Speaker 1: gather themselves and try to pick themselves off the mat
- 4:19Speaker 1: to be able to compete, because we're talking about one
- 4:22Speaker 1: of the all time great collapses that the Tigers do
- 4:25Speaker 1: not make the playoffs here. They were up roughly I
- 4:27Speaker 1: think it was fifteen and a half games just about
- 4:29Speaker 1: a month ago, and so things went so so so
- 4:33Speaker 1: south that like they even cut Charlie Morton where like
- 4:36Speaker 1: he got repicked up by the Braves. That's not going
- 4:39Speaker 1: to be one of the news and notes we cover
- 4:40Speaker 1: this week. It is a little not relevant to our
- 4:43Speaker 1: playerpool out there, but it is just been chaotic, and
- 4:48Speaker 1: I think it's going to be a great playoff run
- 4:50Speaker 1: because a lot of these teams are kind of really
- 4:54Speaker 1: well matched against each other. You know, I don't think
- 4:57Speaker 1: we have any super team like we've had over the
- 4:59Speaker 1: past years. Even the Dodgers this year, the bullpen is
- 5:03Speaker 1: not there for them. There's a flaw on every single
- 5:07Speaker 1: team that's going into the playoffs, and I think it's
- 5:09Speaker 1: going to be real, great fun because all of these
- 5:12Speaker 1: teams are also either media markets that are huge or
- 5:15Speaker 1: they have big time stars, where you know, we don't
- 5:19Speaker 1: have necessarily like the Rinky Dink team that's getting in
- 5:22Speaker 1: that they're really going to have to sell on TV.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it will be interesting when we end up with
- 5:26Speaker 2: a Brewers Guardians World series, So we'll have to see.
- 5:31Speaker 1: I'm kind of holding out for Seattle. Milwaukee's got to
- 5:35Speaker 1: be the weirdest world series that could happen, and it's
- 5:37Speaker 1: very likely.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Listen, Yeah, it's actually a plausible one for sure.
- 5:41Speaker 1: So okay, Well with that, we are going to get
- 5:43Speaker 1: into some of those news and notes. Like I talked
- 5:45Speaker 1: about our main segment today, we will be talking about
- 5:48Speaker 1: twenty twenty five Bowman Chrome. So that actually released on
- 5:51Speaker 1: September twenty third, so we're a day after the release,
- 5:55Speaker 1: but honestly, it's given us a site at a lot
- 5:57Speaker 1: of great cards that have already hit the market, being
- 6:00Speaker 1: able to see some of these new insert designs. And
- 6:02Speaker 1: on top of it, this product is still available on
- 6:05Speaker 1: MLB dot com. We were looking it up right before
- 6:08Speaker 1: our pod, and you can get it at face value
- 6:11Speaker 1: retail price, which is three hundred dollars for a hobby
- 6:14Speaker 1: box with two autos, straight from MLB dot com, so
- 6:17Speaker 1: you don't have to worry about buying it through a
- 6:20Speaker 1: third party if you jump on it this week. So
- 6:23Speaker 1: lots of opportunity I think to rip Browman Chrome, and
- 6:25Speaker 1: it's been I think a relatively successful set. We'll get
- 6:29Speaker 1: into that, Like I said in our second half. But
- 6:31Speaker 1: before that, let's focus on the fantasy side. Let's get
- 6:33Speaker 1: into some of those news and notes affecting our players
- 6:37Speaker 1: and teams out there. So we're gonna start with a
- 6:41Speaker 1: I mean, this would have led the show if we
- 6:42Speaker 1: didn't have these playoff races heating up. But Clayton Kershaw
- 6:46Speaker 1: of the Los Angeles Dodgers future Hall of Fame South
- 6:49Speaker 1: Paul announced his retirement or announced that he's going to
- 6:53Speaker 1: retire after the season. Had one last start against the Giants.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Didn't exactly go to the greatest, but you know, they
- 6:58Speaker 1: had the opportunity to send off Clayton Kershaw in Dodger
- 7:02Speaker 1: Stadium against his vaunted rival, the Giants, and so honestly,
- 7:06Speaker 1: I don't Kershaw might be in the bullpen for this
- 7:09Speaker 1: Dodgers team in the playoffs, which is another reason they
- 7:11Speaker 1: gave him this sendoff. So I mean, he's gonna be
- 7:14Speaker 1: wrapping up a fantastic career for the Dodgers, like I said,
- 7:18Speaker 1: first ballot Hall of Famer, and I mean, even going
- 7:22Speaker 1: into this last year for him was still valuable, useful
- 7:25Speaker 1: for fantasy. So what are you going to remember the
- 7:28Speaker 1: most you think about Clayton Kershaw's career and what stands
- 7:31Speaker 1: out maybe when you look at his stat line.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think you just have to remember
- 7:38Speaker 2: him for the just pure dominance he had for probably
- 7:42Speaker 2: there probably a like six seven year period where he
- 7:45Speaker 2: was absolutely the best pitcher in all of baseball where
- 7:49Speaker 2: he was putting up eras in the two or sub
- 7:52Speaker 2: two range. And you know, every year a twenty ish
- 7:57Speaker 2: win pitcher. And that's really from like the twenty ten,
- 8:00Speaker 2: twenty eleven through I call it twenty seventeen range where
- 8:06Speaker 2: he was just unbelievable. He drove that team, and he
- 8:11Speaker 2: always did it differently, like it was not the blazing fastball.
- 8:16Speaker 2: It wasn't you know, being having the best stuff necessarily,
- 8:21Speaker 2: he had great control. He knew how to pitch, Like
- 8:25Speaker 2: he absolutely knew how to pitch. He knew exactly what's
- 8:27Speaker 2: gonna happen. You know. It kind of makes me rend
- 8:30Speaker 2: me a little bit of Greg Maddix on the mat,
- 8:32Speaker 2: like he was the smartest guy on that field at
- 8:35Speaker 2: any given time, and I just look at him, you know,
- 8:39Speaker 2: But kind of by the numbers here, you know, I
- 8:41Speaker 2: think what three World Series wins, so sorry, two World
- 8:44Speaker 2: Series wins? Three cy Youngs get those flipped. He also
- 8:49Speaker 2: has the best winning percentage in the light ball era
- 8:53Speaker 2: of any pitcher, so that's lightbel area since nineteen twenty,
- 8:56Speaker 2: so that's better than Whitey Ford, Lefty grow Peedro Martinez,
- 9:01Speaker 2: like those guys. He had a two twenty two and
- 9:03Speaker 2: ninety six record, which is just unbelievable. Managed to get
- 9:07Speaker 2: three thousand strikeouts career ERA of two fifty four and
- 9:12Speaker 2: this this time is just unbelievable. There's only one pitcher
- 9:18Speaker 2: that had a lower ERA since in the live ball era. Yeah,
- 9:22Speaker 2: he doesn't have three hundred wins, which you know used
- 9:24Speaker 2: to be kind of that mark for the Hall of
- 9:26Speaker 2: Fame that we wanted to get to. But there has
- 9:29Speaker 2: not probably been a more dominant pitcher over a career
- 9:34Speaker 2: for a single team. And I think that's something that
- 9:36Speaker 2: really stands out here for me. Kershaw did this with
- 9:38Speaker 2: the Dodgers through and through and to your point, just
- 9:43Speaker 2: bar done. Hall of Famer and even like he's one
- 9:48Speaker 2: of those guys that I think could just he could
- 9:49Speaker 2: probably pitch another like five years and still be valuable.
- 9:54Speaker 2: He's sure things have dropped off the velosties. I mean,
- 9:57Speaker 2: he's he barely he's Jamie Moyer in it right now,
- 10:01Speaker 2: trying to get up there eighty eight or something like that.
- 10:04Speaker 2: But the fact is he's still a very valuable pitcher.
- 10:07Speaker 2: He went attend to two this year on one hundred innings,
- 10:10Speaker 2: so like he's still he's still doing good things. So
- 10:13Speaker 2: I don't know, love Layk Kershaw, wish him the best.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I feel like we're not seeing the end of him
- 10:19Speaker 2: because I think there was some wording with the announcement
- 10:21Speaker 2: like he's retiring from his playing career. Like it feels
- 10:25Speaker 2: like Clayton Kershaw is going to be like bullpen pitching
- 10:28Speaker 2: coach for the Dodgers for the next like twenty years
- 10:30Speaker 2: or something like that. That are the Rangers, because you know,
- 10:33Speaker 2: he's always wanted to move back home to Texas, so
- 10:35Speaker 2: it'll be fun. But what about you? What stands out
- 10:38Speaker 2: for Kershaw? I rattled off a lot of different things there,
- 10:40Speaker 2: but gotta have kudos to one of the best to
- 10:44Speaker 2: ever play the game.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think especially what stands out to
- 10:47Speaker 1: me is the stretch from twenty thirteen to twenty seventeen
- 10:52Speaker 1: during winch he won two Cy Young's and that MVP.
- 10:57Speaker 1: But over that five year stretch, just a shade under
- 11:01Speaker 1: one thousand innings, nine hundred and ninety one innings a
- 11:03Speaker 1: one ninety five era. That's absurd. That's like dead ball
- 11:08Speaker 1: era pitching, and he was doing it against such significantly
- 11:12Speaker 1: better competition and didn't even have to worry about a
- 11:15Speaker 1: dead ball, you know, where they actually swapped the balls
- 11:17Speaker 1: out and they were fresh and hard to harder to
- 11:20Speaker 1: hit in the dead ball era. So that I think
- 11:23Speaker 1: that really stands out for me. Obviously, just doing it
- 11:25Speaker 1: all with one team is huge. It stretches over pretty
- 11:29Speaker 1: much our entire adult lives. This this career, which is
- 11:32Speaker 1: also I think is going to stand out for me,
- 11:34Speaker 1: especially because you know you and I. You were born
- 11:36Speaker 1: in eighty six. I was born in a seven. Kershaw
- 11:38Speaker 1: has burned eighty eight, so like it's kind of all
- 11:42Speaker 1: similar timing, and so you know, there's a lot of
- 11:45Speaker 1: kind of things that have happened I think in our
- 11:47Speaker 1: lives that map against Clayton Kershaw's and kind of seeing
- 11:50Speaker 1: where he's gone also kind of trippy that he's now
- 11:53Speaker 1: retired as we are entering the very middle of our career.
- 11:57Speaker 2: So there's that for yourself. I got like five years ago,
- 12:01Speaker 2: I'm on my arm's gonna fall off from typing on
- 12:05Speaker 2: a keyboard.
- 12:06Speaker 1: So yeah, I mean, and on top of that too,
- 12:09Speaker 1: obviously we have a little bit of like the I
- 12:11Speaker 1: think we're gonna struggle a lot with this from just
- 12:13Speaker 1: other players of the era, where like sometimes his personal
- 12:17Speaker 1: values maybe across the line where I didn't like to
- 12:20Speaker 1: see with Clayton Kershaw, and so like you have to
- 12:22Speaker 1: grapple with that, but you can't, I think, discount what
- 12:26Speaker 1: he's meant to baseball and like what he looked like
- 12:29Speaker 1: on the mound, and then when you also just kind
- 12:32Speaker 1: of add it all up, he was just a fiery,
- 12:34Speaker 1: fiery competitor, one of like the greatest of all time.
- 12:37Speaker 1: And so I mean, I think he's gonna probably end
- 12:40Speaker 1: up as like when I think about like there's just
- 12:43Speaker 1: like a handful when you think about like an entire
- 12:47Speaker 1: generation of like people who have seen players like Bob
- 12:52Speaker 1: Gibson is in this. I think Pedro and Greg Maddox.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I always go back and forth on which one it is. Obviously,
- 12:58Speaker 1: like Roger Clemens is there. I think the next one
- 13:00Speaker 1: to pick that up is Kershaw along with Verlander. So
- 13:04Speaker 1: he's just gonna stand out. I think when we look
- 13:06Speaker 1: back on the history of baseball and if you know,
- 13:09Speaker 1: if if we ever get Ken Burns extension of the
- 13:14Speaker 1: Baseball Series, Kershaw will be very prominently displayed throughout the
- 13:19Speaker 1: twenty tens and twenty twenties. So yeah, it's gonna be
- 13:23Speaker 1: strange seeing the Dodgers, I think, without him going forward,
- 13:26Speaker 1: just because even though he's been hurt, he's always been
- 13:28Speaker 1: around that that dugout and kind of chatting and being available,
- 13:32Speaker 1: and you know, it's great to see just the insights
- 13:35Speaker 1: that he's had into the game. So we'll be strange
- 13:39Speaker 1: just not seeing him in a dugout in twenty twenty six.
- 13:41Speaker 2: And you say it's been hurt, which I think is
- 13:43Speaker 2: fun something funny, like for a hurt guy. He's pitched
- 13:45Speaker 2: a lot like over the over the last five years
- 13:48Speaker 2: where he seems like he's been hurt. Every year he
- 13:50Speaker 2: eclipsed basically one hundred and twenty innings and i'll call
- 13:53Speaker 2: it four of the years. I'm giving this one, which
- 13:54Speaker 2: is you know a little bit under that he just
- 13:56Speaker 2: had the one year where he had thirty innings. Otherwise,
- 13:59Speaker 2: like he's just he's always eked out. He's he's always
- 14:02Speaker 2: been valuable and so yeah, you're absolutely right, there's you
- 14:06Speaker 2: can't discount what he's been to the game. I will
- 14:09Speaker 2: have to say one of my core memories of Kershaw
- 14:10Speaker 2: is the fact that the Cardinals owned him in the
- 14:12Speaker 2: playoffs for a few years that Mad Adam Summer. Yes, exactly,
- 14:16Speaker 2: So I'm gonna I'm gonna owe I will. I will
- 14:18Speaker 2: also take that with me to to Couper's sound with Kershaw.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Okay, well, I mean you just mentioned Kershaw being an
- 14:25Speaker 1: oft injured guy. So let's move on to our next
- 14:27Speaker 1: off or an off injured guy here as we have
- 14:30Speaker 1: second basement from the Braves, Ozzy Albi's going down with
- 14:34Speaker 1: another injury that ends his season. Really hurt my team
- 14:38Speaker 1: in a head to head league where I was out
- 14:39Speaker 1: of moves and really needed Ozzy Albi's to come through.
- 14:42Speaker 2: And just play.
- 14:43Speaker 1: So he's down with a left handmate bone fracture and
- 14:48Speaker 1: we'll have to undergo the surgery to fix that. So
- 14:51Speaker 1: this is another serious injury, especially in like hand wrisked
- 14:56Speaker 1: foot ankle area for Ozzi Alby's, which is really strange
- 15:00Speaker 1: the way that they've accumulated over the years in terms
- 15:02Speaker 1: of just all of the little bird bones that he's
- 15:04Speaker 1: broken in all of those little digits, and so it's
- 15:08Speaker 1: going to end a season of really terrible season, honestly,
- 15:11Speaker 1: for especially where it was going in drafts. And this
- 15:13Speaker 1: is a guy where the Braves have had consecutive like
- 15:18Speaker 1: five year options to be able to renew on Albi's
- 15:21Speaker 1: coming up in or five million dollar options to renew
- 15:25Speaker 1: on this contract, and who knows, they might not pick
- 15:28Speaker 1: it up because it was a rough season. Two forty
- 15:30Speaker 1: three zero six three sixty five slash line that's an
- 15:33Speaker 1: eighty seven WRC plus only put up one point three
- 15:36Speaker 1: war in six hundred and sixty seven plate appearances. But
- 15:39Speaker 1: I will say it was better in the second half.
- 15:42Speaker 1: He was starting to heat up a little bit, where
- 15:44Speaker 1: it was a two seventy two three point thirty four
- 15:47Speaker 1: thirty nine, which is playable for him because of the
- 15:50Speaker 1: volume compared to it just being brutal in the first half.
- 15:55Speaker 1: But now we're factoring in the equation of the handmad
- 15:58Speaker 1: injury too, because honestly, I was in on Albi's for
- 16:02Speaker 1: next year because of the turnaround the second half. It
- 16:04Speaker 1: just looked like a brutal first half, brutal stretch. He
- 16:06Speaker 1: was turning it around, getting back to himself. I think
- 16:09Speaker 1: I'm back out with the handmade injury because like, these
- 16:12Speaker 1: things are notorious for taking time to heal. Just look
- 16:15Speaker 1: at Francisco Alvarez this year, roughly the timeline to get
- 16:18Speaker 1: back to full health honestly twelve to sixteen months from
- 16:22Speaker 1: a power department. So where are you sitting with Ozzy
- 16:25Speaker 1: Albi's going into twenty twenty six.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm pretty pretty similar, because You're right that second
- 16:29Speaker 2: half like he was finding it, he was getting back.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Was he like Assy the Albis of old? No, but
- 16:34Speaker 2: he was pacing for all called a twenty five to
- 16:36Speaker 2: twenty type season from the second half perspective, you know,
- 16:39Speaker 2: hitting two seventy that's kind of what you want from
- 16:41Speaker 2: all Ozzy Albi's. And so I was kind of there,
- 16:45Speaker 2: and now I'm kind of dropping him back down to
- 16:46Speaker 2: like I'm gonna call it the Marcus Simeon category, where like,
- 16:49Speaker 2: I'm just not quite sure why I'm gonna get it.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Could be great, it might not be, but I'll plug
- 16:53Speaker 2: in my middle infield hope for the best. That's kind
- 16:56Speaker 2: of kind of where I have him in a very
- 16:58Speaker 2: unofficial tier of UH one time great second basements that
- 17:02Speaker 2: I'll put my middle infield. So I will say I'm
- 17:07Speaker 2: probably standing away from Albi's next year. I don't don't
- 17:09Speaker 2: think there's a chance in the world that the Braves
- 17:11Speaker 2: don't pick up extension. Five million dollars in today's game
- 17:14Speaker 2: is jump change. I wish I had some chump change
- 17:18Speaker 2: from the Braves, But I do think that he's He's
- 17:21Speaker 2: gonna be kind of an afterthought going to next year.
- 17:23Speaker 2: If this injury is very, very concerning, It'll take some
- 17:26Speaker 2: time to kind of come back. Even if he gets
- 17:30Speaker 2: off the spring training. You know, hot, I'm still probably
- 17:34Speaker 2: fading Albi's going into next year.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's all fair. Okay. Next injury we
- 17:39Speaker 1: have is to Seattle pitcher Brian Wu, who is going
- 17:43Speaker 1: down with a pectoral inflammation is what they're calling it
- 17:47Speaker 1: right now, and so it's a little unsure as to
- 17:49Speaker 1: whether or not this is gonna officially end his season,
- 17:54Speaker 1: especially if Seattle gets that. By I mean, they're gonna
- 17:57Speaker 1: want to give Wu as much time to rest as
- 17:59Speaker 1: possible well because in I mean, he's been their ace
- 18:03Speaker 1: all season. He started the year with twenty five straight
- 18:06Speaker 1: quality starts, making six inning outings, which is just unheard
- 18:10Speaker 1: of nowadays, especially considering I mean, this guy had been
- 18:14Speaker 1: battling injuries the past couple of years with his elbow,
- 18:17Speaker 1: and that's why he only had put up one hundred
- 18:20Speaker 1: and twenty one innings before. This is his career high.
- 18:24Speaker 1: That is an MLB iven't looked at the minor leagues,
- 18:26Speaker 1: but I mean, he's at one hundred and eighty six
- 18:29Speaker 1: and two thirds now, which is also crazy that the
- 18:32Speaker 1: Mariners pushed him to that level as a twenty five
- 18:34Speaker 1: year old. You'd think they want to stretch him out
- 18:36Speaker 1: a little bit if it does wrap the season. He
- 18:38Speaker 1: went fifteen and seven with a two ninety four ERA,
- 18:41Speaker 1: certainly an ace out of nowhere, and was very much
- 18:45Speaker 1: at a low cost at the draft table all the
- 18:48Speaker 1: way back in March February January. Another question here, what
- 18:52Speaker 1: are you doing with MoU going into twenty twenty six.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Are you bumping him up to acedom for fantasy purposes
- 18:58Speaker 1: or are you a little sure because of that the
- 19:02Speaker 1: elbow that used to bark Adam last year and now
- 19:05Speaker 1: he's gone down with this peck strain and you just
- 19:07Speaker 1: don't know how it's all going to shape up in
- 19:09Speaker 1: the playoffs.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I still think I've got him kind of a
- 19:12Speaker 2: tear down from the the absolute aces out there. So
- 19:17Speaker 2: I've got him probably in that like twenty top twenty top,
- 19:20Speaker 2: fifteen to twenty range for me overall, which I get
- 19:24Speaker 2: might be a little bit low, but he's the profile
- 19:28Speaker 2: is just one of them that doesn't like it relies
- 19:32Speaker 2: on weak contact, It relies on a little bit of luck.
- 19:35Speaker 2: He is a little bit more of a flyball pitcher,
- 19:39Speaker 2: and those things like are the things that can blow
- 19:42Speaker 2: up relatively easily. He's had an amazing year, Don't get
- 19:46Speaker 2: me wrong. The basketball velocity's up, those things play. Even
- 19:51Speaker 2: his peripherals say that like the era should stick around,
- 19:53Speaker 2: but there are just a few too many little nicks
- 19:57Speaker 2: in the armor from prior injuries. I mean, we got
- 20:00Speaker 2: he gotta owns on the baby and left left on
- 20:02Speaker 2: based luck this year two thirty eight baby up and
- 20:05Speaker 2: the eighty percent left on base like, both of those
- 20:07Speaker 2: are our outliers against his career in the league. So
- 20:11Speaker 2: you have to recognize that there is some regression coming
- 20:15Speaker 2: in this overall profile. But he's still really really solid. Like,
- 20:21Speaker 2: like I said, a number two for me, I'm really
- 20:22Speaker 2: happy with Brian Wus the number two, but you have
- 20:25Speaker 2: to know that you've got a little risk built in
- 20:27Speaker 2: to that profile.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Yep. I think I'm right there with you. Okay. Next
- 20:31Speaker 1: injury we have is to the Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff,
- 20:35Speaker 1: who this one is much more significant because he has
- 20:38Speaker 1: hit the IL officially the fifteen day IL as well,
- 20:41Speaker 1: so that's going to at least keep him out for
- 20:44Speaker 1: the first round of the playoffs. Possibly, well, the Brewers
- 20:47Speaker 1: will have the buy, so I don't know exactly how
- 20:50Speaker 1: the lineup.
- 20:50Speaker 2: He'll be close. I think they I think they retreated
- 20:54Speaker 2: off that. I think they did. I think that's why
- 20:56Speaker 2: he went on the AIL. I don't think it was
- 20:58Speaker 2: that was just my call. I don't think is as
- 21:00Speaker 2: bad as it is an Aisle stint, but it was
- 21:03Speaker 2: we're going to get you there so that if we
- 21:05Speaker 2: had to put you there, that we don't lose you.
- 21:08Speaker 2: And so I think it was a little bit more
- 21:09Speaker 2: of a procedural move at this point.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Okay, Well, I would actually kind of put maybe Wooddroff
- 21:15Speaker 1: a little bit into the bucket of Ozzy Albi's where
- 21:17Speaker 1: I was very unsure of him, given just the way
- 21:20Speaker 1: that the injury was shaping up in the first half,
- 21:22Speaker 1: he was not. It took him a little longer to
- 21:25Speaker 1: still recover from that repaired shoulder than I think was
- 21:29Speaker 1: expected at the gate, But when he finally hit the mound,
- 21:32Speaker 1: it was back to Brandon woodrop of bold a three
- 21:34Speaker 1: twenty era over sixty four and two thirds with an
- 21:37Speaker 1: eleven and a half K nine. It was really great
- 21:40Speaker 1: over twelve starts. Honestly, he was probably starting to move
- 21:44Speaker 1: his way up into that Brian wu number two starter
- 21:47Speaker 1: conversation as well, and probably even like some people's kind
- 21:51Speaker 1: of phantom one if they wanted to wait on starting pitching.
- 21:55Speaker 1: But now that shoulder is barking again for Brandon Wooddroff.
- 21:59Speaker 1: So are you leaning maybe towards it being a minor
- 22:02Speaker 1: thing where the Brewers are trying to find him a
- 22:04Speaker 1: little rest at the end of the season as he's
- 22:06Speaker 1: working his way back and they can use him all
- 22:08Speaker 1: the playoffs, or do you think there is something inherently
- 22:13Speaker 1: just kind of something I almost want to say cursed,
- 22:17Speaker 1: but not cursed, I think I want to say just
- 22:19Speaker 1: unsure with that elbow going or with that shoulder going forward.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Because he was out for two years, and you know,
- 22:27Speaker 1: major shoulders just don't magically kind of repair themselves and
- 22:32Speaker 1: be one hundred percent okay going forward.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I I maybe this is just rose
- 22:38Speaker 2: colored glasses, but I've got him kind of in that
- 22:39Speaker 2: WU category for me. He looked dominant at you know,
- 22:45Speaker 2: the whole time. You did see like it was still
- 22:49Speaker 2: taking a little time to come back for the control
- 22:52Speaker 2: to really fully be there. But he just has looked
- 22:56Speaker 2: nasty the whole time that he's been back. He you know,
- 23:01Speaker 2: Woodroff said that he's been managing this issue for a
- 23:04Speaker 2: few months and it just kind of was like the
- 23:07Speaker 2: timing type of thing. So like all the descriptions are
- 23:10Speaker 2: moderate things like that. Don't get me wrong, they could
- 23:12Speaker 2: absolutely be playing like some type of game here going
- 23:15Speaker 2: to the playoffs, trying to get Scotty reports on Woodroff,
- 23:18Speaker 2: expecting that to happen. But like the Brewer, I've never
- 23:20Speaker 2: seen the Brewers do that. Like they've never been that
- 23:22Speaker 2: team that kind of plays that weird game of who's
- 23:26Speaker 2: heard or who's not type of thing. They're just being
- 23:28Speaker 2: kind of kind of straight shooters at the end of
- 23:30Speaker 2: the day. So I I'm not really too worried. I think,
- 23:34Speaker 2: if anything, this is a little reprieve get him to
- 23:36Speaker 2: the playoffs because we don't want too many Indians on
- 23:39Speaker 2: that on that arm, on that shoulder. And then I
- 23:41Speaker 2: think he's kind of back at the same thing next year.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Like this is a guy that has a whip of
- 23:46Speaker 2: basically point nine. He's striking out an unbelievable eleven and
- 23:51Speaker 2: a half per nine, and all the peripherals support it.
- 23:54Speaker 2: So I absolutely like Woodroff here, Yeah, you got to
- 23:58Speaker 2: put a little you know again, Chicken, the arm are
- 24:01Speaker 2: just like woo oh that there is an injury history here.
- 24:04Speaker 2: But even his look metrics don't look as bad as
- 24:06Speaker 2: Wu's do, So I got them probably right in the
- 24:09Speaker 2: same category for me going next year.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think I'll probably have woodrift a
- 24:15Speaker 1: little bit lower than consensus, just the way that I
- 24:17Speaker 1: have traditionally based on the shoulder issue. So I mean,
- 24:23Speaker 1: I don't unindorse him, but I think I just am
- 24:26Speaker 1: not going to end up with him anywhere because I'm like,
- 24:28Speaker 1: you know, a round or two behind consensus when it
- 24:31Speaker 1: kind of comes all together, you know what I mean,
- 24:33Speaker 1: It's like one of those where it's like you just
- 24:35Speaker 1: have preferences when you get into that level of the pitching,
- 24:38Speaker 1: and I think I want somebody who provides a tick
- 24:41Speaker 1: more volume and is a little younger, and you can
- 24:45Speaker 1: kind of find that bit of upside where it's a
- 24:48Speaker 1: lot a downside for Brandon Woodruff, I think at this point.
- 24:51Speaker 1: But let's talk about another player who I think is
- 24:53Speaker 1: in the same vein of number two starter, and honestly,
- 24:57Speaker 1: he's probably fading pretty fast down boards considering it's been
- 25:02Speaker 1: a couple of rough years for Pablo Lopez of the
- 25:04Speaker 1: Minnesota Twins. Last year it was just a rough, unlucky
- 25:08Speaker 1: performance in terms of the home run ball really bit
- 25:11Speaker 1: him and get inflated as ERA to four oh eight
- 25:15Speaker 1: over one hundred and eighty five innings and a third.
- 25:18Speaker 1: This season, it's been injury bugs, so he had shoulder
- 25:22Speaker 1: issue and now he's down with a forearm string. It's
- 25:26Speaker 1: going to wrap up his season much better from an
- 25:29Speaker 1: RA perspective of two seventy four, but he had a
- 25:32Speaker 1: slightly higher XCRA of four that is over seventy five
- 25:36Speaker 1: and two thirds innings, and the strikeouts have backed up
- 25:39Speaker 1: a little bit here on Lopez now going to twenty
- 25:41Speaker 1: twenty five as well as the ground ball rate is
- 25:44Speaker 1: starting to degrade on him too, where it's almost like
- 25:47Speaker 1: reminds me the love of Luis Castillo, when Luis Castillo
- 25:51Speaker 1: started kind of like veering off the edge, and we've
- 25:54Speaker 1: been avoiding him for a couple of years, and I
- 25:56Speaker 1: think he's been maintained by Seattle. It's you're I think
- 25:58Speaker 1: you're looking at somebody in Papolo Lopez who is rapidly
- 26:01Speaker 1: approaching thirty years old, and when you started pitching when
- 26:04Speaker 1: you're twenty two in the big leagues. This is just
- 26:07Speaker 1: kind of where careers go. So am I selling Lopez
- 26:10Speaker 1: too short? Or are you in the same boat with me?
- 26:14Speaker 2: No, I think I'm kind of right there with you.
- 26:16Speaker 2: It just seems like it's been a kind of gradual,
- 26:18Speaker 2: garradual decline. Like don't get me wrong, I don't think
- 26:20Speaker 2: I'm like out on Lopez, but I'm like, I'm comparing
- 26:23Speaker 2: him to I just talked about with wo and wood Driff,
- 26:25Speaker 2: and I just feel like it's a tick down, Like
- 26:28Speaker 2: I that Lopez maybe in that kind of thirty to
- 26:31Speaker 2: forty range of a starter going into next year, and
- 26:35Speaker 2: it's mainly because the strike culture dropping the velocity is
- 26:39Speaker 2: a little bit down over the last few years. The
- 26:41Speaker 2: quality of contact has actually, you know, gotten better for
- 26:44Speaker 2: the guys facing him, which is not what you want
- 26:47Speaker 2: to see. And I think there's just a little too
- 26:49Speaker 2: many warning signs here that it could like it's your
- 26:53Speaker 2: I like you Louise Castillo reference there, because Castillo was
- 26:57Speaker 2: like year after year like these little trailing things of
- 27:00Speaker 2: going the wrong way, and I see a little that
- 27:03Speaker 2: of that here as well now, So that might be
- 27:05Speaker 2: injury things like that. Maybe bounces back. He's still young
- 27:08Speaker 2: enough that I'm willing to give it a shot. But
- 27:11Speaker 2: the guy that two three years ago you just plugged
- 27:14Speaker 2: and played almost two hundred innings, you know, k per
- 27:18Speaker 2: Per Inny mid threes era, that's what he was. It
- 27:21Speaker 2: seems like it just keeps stepping back slowly, slowly, slowly,
- 27:24Speaker 2: and I just wonder if there's if his arm's not
- 27:27Speaker 2: holding up well. To your point, so I think you're
- 27:31Speaker 2: you're you're right there, and we'll kind of see how
- 27:34Speaker 2: much that they you know, the reports of the off
- 27:38Speaker 2: season come in because you know, right for arm strains
- 27:42Speaker 2: never the kind of injury you want to see going
- 27:45Speaker 2: into the off season because that's like code for maybe
- 27:48Speaker 2: U C L they sacked. Yeah, it says intact, but.
- 27:54Speaker 1: A major league starter.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Yes, intact, we forgot which arm we looked at. But
- 27:59Speaker 2: otherwise it's fine.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and I am. I'm on the same boat with you.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Like for I hate forearm streams because what it means
- 28:05Speaker 1: is the player is doing something to compensate in their
- 28:09Speaker 1: kinetic chain for something else going on. It's either an elbow,
- 28:13Speaker 1: It's either the shoulder. You know, maybe it can be
- 28:16Speaker 1: something else in the peck if you're Brian Wu or
- 28:19Speaker 1: something like that. But there's something else in the kinetic
- 28:21Speaker 1: chain that's going awry, causing them to grip it a
- 28:24Speaker 1: little bit extra at the end, and that's causing the
- 28:27Speaker 1: forearm strain. So this is not a great situation. I
- 28:31Speaker 1: it's another player in Lopez where I think I'll probably
- 28:35Speaker 1: not end up with him in many situations because I'll
- 28:37Speaker 1: be much lower than the consensus. And especially when you
- 28:40Speaker 1: kick him out of a projection system, Lopez is going
- 28:43Speaker 1: to look really, really good. It's going to be something
- 28:46Speaker 1: like a mid three z Ra with one hundred and
- 28:48Speaker 1: eighty innings, And I don't think that's who Lopez is,
- 28:51Speaker 1: right now, yeah.
- 28:52Speaker 2: I agree. I think this is what like and you
- 28:55Speaker 2: know what, I like injured guys, but I think this
- 28:58Speaker 2: is one of the kind of the one you kind
- 28:59Speaker 2: of try to avoid because it's not a clear path.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Like when you go at the end of the season
- 29:05Speaker 2: with something like this, it's different. We're even like a
- 29:07Speaker 2: woodroof last year or something like that, Kyle Bradish, Like
- 29:09Speaker 2: you knew what the problem was. You knew they had
- 29:12Speaker 2: the injury, the surgery, and you knew they're rehabby and
- 29:14Speaker 2: going through it. This is the vague injury. That's the
- 29:17Speaker 2: one you that's the one that really causes problems because
- 29:21Speaker 2: everybody's paying for it. Like it's not there, but then
- 29:25Speaker 2: it might be a week, it might be three months
- 29:28Speaker 2: when he's the next season.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Yeah, And you know what this reminds me a lot
- 29:32Speaker 1: of too, is it's Garrett Cole too. Like this happened
- 29:35Speaker 1: to him the end of last season, where you know
- 29:38Speaker 1: he was injured and there was kind of elbow, fore arm,
- 29:42Speaker 1: some sort of vague injury stuff. Kind of forgot about
- 29:46Speaker 1: it over the offseason. He gets back to spring training,
- 29:48Speaker 1: starts ramping up. Boom u seel goes he's on he's
- 29:51Speaker 1: under the knife for Tommy John So I think that's
- 29:53Speaker 1: an a route that you could see happening to Lopez.
- 29:56Speaker 1: And that's why, like these late season injuries are also
- 30:00Speaker 1: it's tough to remember them during the entire offseason when
- 30:04Speaker 1: you see them like not have something significant, like you
- 30:07Speaker 1: said with the surgery, and you can really plan that
- 30:09Speaker 1: out and it sticks out in an injury history. Okay,
- 30:13Speaker 1: well it is number two starter corner around here, I
- 30:16Speaker 1: think for this news and notes, because we've got another
- 30:19Speaker 1: kind of on that border, probably way off that border
- 30:22Speaker 1: now because after the second half he put up Mackenzie
- 30:26Speaker 1: Gore is certainly way down the list. I mean, in
- 30:29Speaker 1: the first half it was brilliant. It was one hundred
- 30:31Speaker 1: and ten innings, one hundred and ten and a third
- 30:33Speaker 1: innings even of a three h two RA second half
- 30:37Speaker 1: forty nine and a third six seventy five ERA, and
- 30:41Speaker 1: the entire difference is pretty much right in his K
- 30:44Speaker 1: minus BB twenty two point seven percent in the first half,
- 30:48Speaker 1: seven point nine percent in the second half. And you
- 30:50Speaker 1: might say, well, you know what he put about so
- 30:53Speaker 1: many more innings in the first half in the second half,
- 30:55Speaker 1: like that's really weird, Like it's just a small sample. Well,
- 30:58Speaker 1: he was also pitching really well in the first TAFF
- 31:00Speaker 1: he wasn't getting yanked after two three innings because he's
- 31:03Speaker 1: getting bombarded. So which mackenzie Gore is the real Mackenzie
- 31:07Speaker 1: Gore for you?
- 31:10Speaker 2: I think neither of these. And it was actually was
- 31:14Speaker 2: I was trying to think of like McKenzie Gore and
- 31:17Speaker 2: I saw a comp for him on Savant and it
- 31:20Speaker 2: was like the best comp I think is possibly and
- 31:23Speaker 2: it was Jack Flaerty. And the reason I say Jack
- 31:25Speaker 2: Flair is a great cop playing on teams that just
- 31:28Speaker 2: start going to get the wins. It seems to be
- 31:30Speaker 2: like Jack Flerty's MO. I know he had a little
- 31:32Speaker 2: Dodgers kind of diversion there. But a guy that's gonna
- 31:36Speaker 2: have a crazy strikeout is gonna have good streaks but
- 31:39Speaker 2: just can't seem to keep it together the whole time.
- 31:42Speaker 2: And that's why I think McKenzie Gore is. I think
- 31:44Speaker 2: he has nasty stuff, but I think he's a very
- 31:47Speaker 2: much a feel pitcher. If he doesn't feel it, if
- 31:49Speaker 2: he doesn't have the arm slot down, he doesn't feel
- 31:53Speaker 2: the grip right, he's lost. He doesn't have the ability
- 31:58Speaker 2: the kind of pitchability and the control when his stuff's
- 32:01Speaker 2: not working to work through lineups and get guys out.
- 32:04Speaker 2: And that's what I think happened the second half is
- 32:07Speaker 2: he lost the feel for it. He had way more
- 32:09Speaker 2: innings than he's had, and this is what happens, you
- 32:13Speaker 2: get that really big drop off. Sure the luck waned
- 32:17Speaker 2: in the second half, but like it was, he wasn't
- 32:19Speaker 2: as bad as that. He wasn't as good as the
- 32:22Speaker 2: first half. He's in the middle. I don't you said
- 32:24Speaker 2: number two start a territory. I don't see mckenzy. Gore
- 32:26Speaker 2: is number two. I think he's kind of the back
- 32:29Speaker 2: end kind of guy that you're looking for volume, mainly
- 32:32Speaker 2: because he pitches for the Nationals and you're gonna take
- 32:35Speaker 2: an L and the win column for sure, and then
- 32:39Speaker 2: your whip is going to be a pretty rough metric
- 32:45Speaker 2: to look at.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Yep, Okay, I think that's off air on Gore. All right.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Next injury we have is I mean it's actually not
- 32:52Speaker 1: a real injury. It's more of like an update in
- 32:54Speaker 1: terms of just kind of where his off season is
- 32:57Speaker 1: going to go. And that's catcher Yvon Herrera from the
- 32:59Speaker 1: Saint Less Cardinals. They did announce that he's going to
- 33:02Speaker 1: have off season elbow surgery, and so that elbow what
- 33:07Speaker 1: it actually is, it's just loose bodies. So nothing like
- 33:10Speaker 1: crazy concerning like a UCL or anything like that. But
- 33:12Speaker 1: they're going to clean that up in the off season.
- 33:14Speaker 1: And that's been holding him back from catching. He's been
- 33:16Speaker 1: dhing for the Cardinals and crushing at it, continuing from
- 33:20Speaker 1: the half season that was great in twenty twenty four,
- 33:23Speaker 1: twenty twenty five so far, nineteen homers, you know, one
- 33:26Speaker 1: hundred and three games with a two eighty three, three
- 33:28Speaker 1: seventy five, four to seventy one slash line, one thirty
- 33:31Speaker 1: nine WC plus Herrera has been a key person in
- 33:35Speaker 1: terms of the backstop breakouts that we've seen this season.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Only has fourteen games at catcher, so it's gonna be
- 33:42Speaker 1: iffy whether or not he qualifies out the gate at
- 33:45Speaker 1: catcher for you in leagues next year. So, uh, this
- 33:48Speaker 1: is a little bit of a heads up something to
- 33:50Speaker 1: barry tuck away in the back of your head. If
- 33:53Speaker 1: he doesn't walk in with catcher eligibility next year, he
- 33:55Speaker 1: should pick it up. Because sounds like the Cardinals have
- 33:58Speaker 1: every intention of making him some sort of part time catcher,
- 34:02Speaker 1: probably with Jimmy Crooks, probably another year away from right now,
- 34:07Speaker 1: Rodriguez joining them in Saint Louis. But great news for Herrera, right,
- 34:11Speaker 1: especially if you have him in a dynasty situation.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that this is great. Like we've talked
- 34:16Speaker 2: about the catcher crop multiple times. I wrote about it
- 34:18Speaker 2: last week, and I keep forgetting to include Evon Herrera
- 34:22Speaker 2: because of the injuries and things like that, and like
- 34:25Speaker 2: he's being overshadowed by the guys. But you actually look
- 34:27Speaker 2: at the metrics behind the scenes, like he's doing like
- 34:30Speaker 2: the exact same thing as Drake Baldman, Like it's exactly
- 34:33Speaker 2: the same. Like the profile looks very very good, and
- 34:38Speaker 2: he just not get an appreciation for it because he's
- 34:40Speaker 2: kind of been dinged here and there. He's lost a
- 34:42Speaker 2: lot of time in the second half, so we've kind
- 34:44Speaker 2: of forgotten about him. But he's really broke out and
- 34:47Speaker 2: there's not really many red flags like that. I think
- 34:51Speaker 2: that's you know, I was just kind of surprised by
- 34:53Speaker 2: it because it seems like he really developed more into
- 34:55Speaker 2: a hitter faster than I would have expected. Maybe parts
- 34:59Speaker 2: because he hasn't and catching as much because the injury
- 35:02Speaker 2: being focused on hitting. I don't I don't know. He
- 35:04Speaker 2: also has a great potential mentor and Wilson Contreres that
- 35:08Speaker 2: has a very similar game. I think Carrea is a
- 35:10Speaker 2: better catcher and that's probably not like a stretch or anything,
- 35:14Speaker 2: but you know, this is a guy I think, would
- 35:17Speaker 2: you look at the catcher crop next year, I think
- 35:18Speaker 2: might be a steal. Going into the season, I think
- 35:21Speaker 2: everybody's gonna be talking about the You're Augustine Ramirez, Drake Baldwins,
- 35:28Speaker 2: your guys like that that have really put, you know,
- 35:31Speaker 2: put themselves on the map. And I think Herrer is
- 35:32Speaker 2: gonna kind of slip through a little bit just because
- 35:35Speaker 2: the injuries and you know, Cardinals really didn't have a
- 35:37Speaker 2: good season. He had injury, you know, had the surgery.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Like I think that's gonna be kind of a miss.
- 35:42Speaker 2: And to your point, you might be in a league
- 35:44Speaker 2: that requires the fifteen games the other eligibility, and that's
- 35:48Speaker 2: gonna be a sneaky, sneaky play to pick up a
- 35:50Speaker 2: guy like him with a utility only and then like
- 35:53Speaker 2: two weeks in the season have have your like full time, uh,
- 35:56Speaker 2: you know, first string catchers so there's a there's there's
- 35:59Speaker 2: a lot to like with here going to next year.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree. I think he's a really solid player.
- 36:04Speaker 1: You can count on a couple of great years of
- 36:06Speaker 1: production out of him. Whenever you watch him play too,
- 36:09Speaker 1: he is he's a sharp hitter, and so I have
- 36:11Speaker 1: lots of faith in Herrera as well. All right, next
- 36:14Speaker 1: piece of news we have is the Pirates promoting south
- 36:18Speaker 1: paw prospect Hunter Barco for the last week of the season,
- 36:21Speaker 1: and so he actually got in the game last night
- 36:23Speaker 1: on the twenty third, came in, picked up the win
- 36:26Speaker 1: for the Pirates, and his debut featured a sinker, slider,
- 36:30Speaker 1: split change or split finger mixed there. And even though
- 36:36Speaker 1: it was in relief, it's a pretty classic lefty approach
- 36:41Speaker 1: there with the slider, the sinker and the split finger.
- 36:45Speaker 1: That is a lot of s's to get out of
- 36:47Speaker 1: your mouth. And so he is a big old six
- 36:50Speaker 1: foot four lefty. Should get a crack at the rotation
- 36:53Speaker 1: next year. Considering what he did in Triple A this
- 36:56Speaker 1: year for the Pirates, and actually it was across two
- 36:59Speaker 1: levels Triple A and ninety nine and a third innings
- 37:02Speaker 1: with a two eighty one ra and looked really great.
- 37:06Speaker 1: We thought he would come up maybe before this, but
- 37:09Speaker 1: obviously the Pirates love playing their games with making sure
- 37:12Speaker 1: that players don't make all the bucks that they can
- 37:14Speaker 1: while they're underneath team control. And so was there anything
- 37:20Speaker 1: that you can glean you think in that one appearance
- 37:23Speaker 1: or is this a situation where you're just happy to
- 37:25Speaker 1: see the guy get up and know that the organization
- 37:29Speaker 1: has some good faith in him moving forward.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's it's the it's the ladder. There
- 37:33Speaker 2: is that. This is an Abubfa Chandler type situation where
- 37:37Speaker 2: you know, and again he's he's twenty. I think he's
- 37:39Speaker 2: twenty four. He'll be twenty five later this year. There's
- 37:42Speaker 2: really no reason for him to still be in the miners.
- 37:45Speaker 2: The only concern I have for him is you're right,
- 37:47Speaker 2: like he should be a starter, should give him run.
- 37:49Speaker 2: He's had some control issues and they've really tried to
- 37:52Speaker 2: tailor back his innings in the miners, so he's been
- 37:55Speaker 2: really on two and three innings starts for most of
- 37:58Speaker 2: the second half of the season, and that's kind of
- 38:01Speaker 2: think hidden some control challenges for him, and so bring
- 38:03Speaker 2: him up in a bullpen roll like I think they
- 38:06Speaker 2: want to see how that bullpen plays because that that
- 38:08Speaker 2: he's definitely at risk for long term being a bullpen piece.
- 38:12Speaker 2: I think he is a talent for a starter. It's
- 38:15Speaker 2: just you you got to see that control come around.
- 38:17Speaker 2: If it does, then this is a really really interesting
- 38:19Speaker 2: piece for the Pirates that kind of gets overshadowed by
- 38:22Speaker 2: the Jared Jones, Paul Skans, Bubba Chandler that group. Hunter
- 38:26Speaker 2: Barco absolutely could be the fourth fiddle to that trio,
- 38:32Speaker 2: but I think he's got to figure out the control
- 38:35Speaker 2: and he hasn't. He hasn't even given an opportunity in
- 38:37Speaker 2: the miners to go deep into games and see how
- 38:39Speaker 2: that plays and see lineups the second time. So I
- 38:41Speaker 2: think this is gonna be I'm just excited to see
- 38:43Speaker 2: him up because I think he's a guy in the
- 38:48Speaker 2: spring train. They're gonn try to stretch out and give
- 38:49Speaker 2: that shot. But I think it's fifty to fifty what he
- 38:53Speaker 2: means up the bullpen long term.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's fair. And on top of it too,
- 38:56Speaker 1: it's honestly a low key hard rotation to between I mean,
- 39:02Speaker 1: the top five right now, and I believe they're all
- 39:04Speaker 1: under contract for next year, I think so so Paul Skeen's,
- 39:09Speaker 1: Mitch Keller, Bubba Chandler, Mike Burrows, Johanna Aviato. You've got
- 39:14Speaker 1: Braxton Ashcraft in the bullpen, that's your sixth. You've got
- 39:17Speaker 1: Jared Jones your seventh, who will be ready at some
- 39:19Speaker 1: point from Tommy John next year. And then you've still
- 39:22Speaker 1: got Thomas Harrington, who is a former first round pick,
- 39:25Speaker 1: a pretty solid player of himself that has been kind
- 39:29Speaker 1: of up and down between Triple A and the Majors
- 39:31Speaker 1: this year. And then on top of it, Pittsburgh is
- 39:33Speaker 1: a pretty popular landing spot for like a one year,
- 39:37Speaker 1: three to five million dollar contract for a veteran trying
- 39:41Speaker 1: to show what they can do in a great pitcher
- 39:44Speaker 1: spark in P and C. So it will be I
- 39:47Speaker 1: think a tough road for Barco to crack the rotation
- 39:50Speaker 1: as well too, as well as some of these other
- 39:52Speaker 1: guys that, like the Pirates are going to have to
- 39:54Speaker 1: figure out something with all these arms. I like a
- 39:56Speaker 1: lot of them, but like there's just not enough rotation
- 39:59Speaker 1: spots to go around.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and this is you know, you look at that
- 40:02Speaker 2: they're they're starting to put together a pretty mush on
- 40:04Speaker 2: good rotation, a few of those guys should just slide
- 40:07Speaker 2: to the bulpen likes, and I think that's where Barcom
- 40:09Speaker 2: might end up ashcraft as well. But then you might
- 40:13Speaker 2: want to take a few of these guys and flip
- 40:15Speaker 2: them for hitting, because that's the one thing that they
- 40:16Speaker 2: don't have, so like, it'll be really interesting to see
- 40:19Speaker 2: the Pirates finally, you know, put their money. I want
- 40:22Speaker 2: to say where their mouth is, Like I don't think
- 40:23Speaker 2: that's even true, Like do they use some money and
- 40:26Speaker 2: then maybe flip a few of these guys, which is
- 40:29Speaker 2: always dangerous, right every for the every time you try
- 40:31Speaker 2: to flip a picture or two because you have surplus.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Uh you never have surplus again. Like that's just the
- 40:37Speaker 2: way the way it plays. But uh, yeah, the Pirates
- 40:40Speaker 2: are looking pretty interesting in the pitching front. They just
- 40:42Speaker 2: need a little hitting to play play that game, and
- 40:44Speaker 2: they'll have a window here to try that out.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Okay, well, speaking of windows, I guess these windows are
- 40:51Speaker 1: being maybe that's too too far.
- 40:55Speaker 2: You're trying here. I appreciate it.
- 40:58Speaker 1: But the next bit of news that we have to
- 40:59Speaker 1: cover it not actually a player. It regards Trappacana Field
- 41:03Speaker 1: down in Tampa, We had a news report this week
- 41:05Speaker 1: that actually I wasn't really aware of. I thought that
- 41:08Speaker 1: there was a much longer timeline for this, But looks
- 41:10Speaker 1: like Tropic Canna Field is going to be ready for
- 41:13Speaker 1: April twenty twenty six opening day so that the Rays
- 41:16Speaker 1: can move back in there not being George Steinberner Field anymore.
- 41:20Speaker 1: Which I brought this up a little bit when we
- 41:23Speaker 1: had our mock first round twenty twenty six draft a
- 41:25Speaker 1: couple pods ago, where Junior Caman Arrow was hanging out
- 41:28Speaker 1: on my list of possible choices because you know, getting
- 41:32Speaker 1: another year in that minor league park for George Steinberner Field.
- 41:36Speaker 1: It hasn't played like super hitter friendly because of the
- 41:38Speaker 1: way that the wind blows in Florida. It's been that
- 41:42Speaker 1: the day, the games that are earlier in the day
- 41:45Speaker 1: have been like hitter friendly, and the ones at the
- 41:48Speaker 1: end of the day have been pitcher friendly because of
- 41:50Speaker 1: the ins and outs. And so going back to Trapic
- 41:54Speaker 1: Canna Field, which was certainly a pitcher stadium, I think
- 41:57Speaker 1: between the dimensions and just the the led lighting, the
- 42:01Speaker 1: unnatural feel of being in that giant dome really messed
- 42:05Speaker 1: with a lot of players. You can just see it
- 42:06Speaker 1: in like williat Domis's profile, it's going to be a
- 42:12Speaker 1: huge downgrade for people who maybe we're counting on raised
- 42:15Speaker 1: players getting another year outside in Tampa. So this is
- 42:19Speaker 1: maybe your first alert to, hey, if you've got some
- 42:22Speaker 1: raised players that you don't feel too great about. I mean,
- 42:25Speaker 1: Junior Camerania has got power, they'll play anywhere, but the
- 42:28Speaker 1: batting average might not be much above two fifty next year.
- 42:32Speaker 1: So any other concerns or considerations that you have as
- 42:37Speaker 1: the Rays might be moving back into the Tropic Canna
- 42:41Speaker 1: next year.
- 42:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you hit it like Tropic Canna was
- 42:47Speaker 2: probably one of the five worst ballparks to hit in.
- 42:51Speaker 2: But it also from a pitching perspective, I can go
- 42:53Speaker 2: the other way. So I think you have to look
- 42:55Speaker 2: at the hitters and down them a little bit. I
- 42:57Speaker 2: think you look at the pictures and you have to
- 42:58Speaker 2: give them a little upgrade as well. So like you're
- 43:01Speaker 2: Ja Boyle's maybe Shane McClanahan if he ever decides to
- 43:05Speaker 2: keep be healthy. Like I think there's guys like that,
- 43:09Speaker 2: Pete Fairbanks, like you know, there's definitely some guys on
- 43:12Speaker 2: that rotation side that should benefit. But I think it
- 43:15Speaker 2: just has to change your dial a little bit because
- 43:18Speaker 2: steinvern Or Field was kind of like a top ten
- 43:20Speaker 2: hitters ballpark, and so we're definitely gonna see kind of
- 43:24Speaker 2: a big flip there. And to your point, like I
- 43:26Speaker 2: thought it was gonna be another year, and then all
- 43:28Speaker 2: of a sudden, it seems like, hey, they're actually working
- 43:30Speaker 2: through things and they're gonna they plan to have that
- 43:32Speaker 2: field back and rolling, which which good kudos to them.
- 43:36Speaker 2: I think it's great for you know, this is the
- 43:38Speaker 2: Tampa to have their team back in their field. But
- 43:41Speaker 2: it does change the dynamic from a fantasy perspective, certainly
- 43:44Speaker 2: going into next year compared to what we expected.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, And I think that's a good point too.
- 43:49Speaker 1: I was looking maybe at the negative side for hitters,
- 43:51Speaker 1: but this offseason, if you're in a dynasty keeper situation,
- 43:55Speaker 1: start hitting those Rays pitchers hard, because I think people
- 43:58Speaker 1: have gotten a little gun shy with them. I especially
- 44:01Speaker 1: think about Shane bos a lot too, where that dude
- 44:03Speaker 1: has been eaten a lot. I think by George sun Bernerfield.
- 44:06Speaker 1: I don't think he's a great pitcher, but you know what,
- 44:09Speaker 1: tropiccandafield might save him. So lots of consideration there, I
- 44:12Speaker 1: think for raised pitching going forward. All right, with that,
- 44:15Speaker 1: we are going to get into some discussion on the
- 44:18Speaker 1: baseball card news because on top of Bowman Chrome release
- 44:21Speaker 1: that we're gonna discuss here in the second half, we
- 44:24Speaker 1: also had a pre release that dropped on Tops dot
- 44:27Speaker 1: com and it's one of our favorites of the year
- 44:29Speaker 1: that comes out. It's Tops Holiday twenty twenty five. They're
- 44:32Speaker 1: still pre orders up. I actually I bought some of
- 44:35Speaker 1: these boxes because I still had some like discounts and
- 44:39Speaker 1: other things through Tops dot com where I almost pulled
- 44:42Speaker 1: the trigger on a whole case because I love Tops Holiday,
- 44:46Speaker 1: but I'm glad I didn't. I only bought four, but
- 44:49Speaker 1: this is the first product that I've bought since uh
- 44:53Speaker 1: Heritage like some Heritage Value boxes, which kind of shows you, like,
- 44:58Speaker 1: if you've listened to us over time, like we're not
- 45:01Speaker 1: real hot on some of the stuff and the pricing
- 45:03Speaker 1: that's coming out. We're really encouraging people to go play
- 45:06Speaker 1: singles market, you know, open open old stuff, find different ways,
- 45:10Speaker 1: because it's a lot like lighting your money on fire
- 45:13Speaker 1: opening some of the new stuff. Tops Holiday is not
- 45:16Speaker 1: like that. It's forty dollars for value box. The link
- 45:18Speaker 1: is in the show notes. You can still buy it
- 45:20Speaker 1: on tops dot com. And I think this is a
- 45:23Speaker 1: great product because actually I'm even wrong. It's twenty nine
- 45:27Speaker 1: ninety nine, yes megabox, and so you get great hits.
- 45:31Speaker 1: There's lots of rookies in it. There's lots of fun stuff,
- 45:34Speaker 1: and I think what I've noticed too is like people
- 45:37Speaker 1: will discount this and poopoo it a little bit because
- 45:39Speaker 1: it is whimsical with all the holiday stuff. But as
- 45:43Speaker 1: I look back on and maybe it's because we're children
- 45:46Speaker 1: of the nineties when we collected, we look back on
- 45:48Speaker 1: some of the fun stuff from the nineties and other
- 45:51Speaker 1: card collecting eras. People love the goofy stuff, and so
- 45:54Speaker 1: I think some of these holiday parallels will age better
- 45:57Speaker 1: than we're giving them credit for. On top of when
- 46:01Speaker 1: you rip this product right away and can kind of
- 46:04Speaker 1: move quickly on eBay, those short prints, autographs, patches move
- 46:08Speaker 1: pretty well. From what I've noticed, people collect this set
- 46:11Speaker 1: and it's loaded with stars and inserts. So I love it.
- 46:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're right. I haven't I haven't jumped
- 46:19Speaker 2: in yet, but it's gonna be tempting because I also
- 46:23Speaker 2: love the fact that you're guaranteed to hit, which is
- 46:25Speaker 2: very very rare anymore, like you're guaranteed to relic in
- 46:29Speaker 2: every box and an auto there. They're harder to come
- 46:31Speaker 2: by in this product and other products, but they're generally
- 46:34Speaker 2: big names. They aren't wasting the autos in this product
- 46:38Speaker 2: on it's you know, it's like your top's chrome when
- 46:40Speaker 2: you're like, who's the middle reliever that called up for
- 46:42Speaker 2: one game? Like, that's not what they are. It's almost
- 46:45Speaker 2: always the autos are of key rookies or bigger, bigger
- 46:49Speaker 2: named players, and so I think this is a fun product.
- 46:53Speaker 2: It's to your point, is whimsical. You know, for thirty dollars,
- 46:56Speaker 2: you're actually getting to rip one hundred cards. You have
- 46:58Speaker 2: ten packsten cards, which like that that's kind of unheard of,
- 47:02Speaker 2: Like it's usually like two dollars in card down. This
- 47:04Speaker 2: is we call it what thirty cents a card type
- 47:07Speaker 2: of thing. And so that's absolutely a great place. So
- 47:11Speaker 2: Top Holiday is probably one of the best products of
- 47:14Speaker 2: the year to rip, to enjoy and have fun with.
- 47:19Speaker 2: You're not looking for the big hit with Top Holiday.
- 47:20Speaker 2: I think that's the key thing is like they're not
- 47:22Speaker 2: huge chases out there. Sure there's like random Santa relics
- 47:25Speaker 2: and weird things they always sneak in there for fun,
- 47:29Speaker 2: But it's really about fun short prints, oddball things, you know,
- 47:34Speaker 2: Mic Trout wearing a necklace of Christmas lights like whatever,
- 47:37Speaker 2: it's gonna be, ped Lonzo swinging a candy cane bat
- 47:40Speaker 2: like it's whimsical, it's funny. Does it hold his value
- 47:43Speaker 2: long term? Iffy? But a lot of people just love
- 47:47Speaker 2: the set and how fun it is. So if you're ripping,
- 47:50Speaker 2: there's a pretty high floor on this product for the
- 47:54Speaker 2: fun that you get out of it.
- 47:55Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think lots of people always ask me
- 47:57Speaker 1: like where should I start, Like what should I ripping?
- 48:00Speaker 1: And Flagship is always my answer. My second is always Holiday,
- 48:04Speaker 1: just because it does give a lot of bang for
- 48:07Speaker 1: your buck. And it's also I can tell you, of
- 48:10Speaker 1: all the products I've ever ripped kind of in this
- 48:12Speaker 1: new era of collecting, Holiday is the only one where like,
- 48:16Speaker 1: after you've ripped it, I've never had a regret of
- 48:19Speaker 1: being like I just wasted thirty dollars or whatever. That
- 48:22Speaker 1: has happened to me on every other product where it's
- 48:24Speaker 1: like that gamblers let down because like you, you just
- 48:28Speaker 1: expect more and in terms of like entertainment value and
- 48:33Speaker 1: what you actually might cherish holding on to. No other
- 48:37Speaker 1: product has hit that kind of sweet spot the way
- 48:40Speaker 1: that Holiday has and Holiday has never failed me in
- 48:43Speaker 1: that perspective.
- 48:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're right. Like that's where I go
- 48:46Speaker 2: with that high floor. Like you rip a lot of
- 48:49Speaker 2: things out there, like Flagship Stadium, any of the crazy
- 48:53Speaker 2: things like Inception Tier one anything like that, Like it
- 48:56Speaker 2: is a gambling game. If if you don't hit a
- 48:58Speaker 2: big thing, you're sitting here going why did I do that? Well,
- 49:02Speaker 2: Like I could have just gone out and bought like
- 49:05Speaker 2: for the same two hundred dollars, I could have bought
- 49:08Speaker 2: like literally every card for my PC that I wanted
- 49:10Speaker 2: out of this thing, or one big card like and yeah,
- 49:13Speaker 2: you have the potential. And I know we're gonna talk
- 49:16Speaker 2: about set kind of like this here after the break,
- 49:18Speaker 2: but you have the potential for something amazing. But at
- 49:21Speaker 2: the end of the day, like, is that what we're
- 49:23Speaker 2: If you're ripping cards, you're either ripping because you're a
- 49:26Speaker 2: breaker and you're crazy you have some crazy disposable income
- 49:30Speaker 2: for kudos to you, or you're just a true, true
- 49:33Speaker 2: fan of the game, and you love the cards and
- 49:36Speaker 2: this is the product for you.
- 49:37Speaker 1: If that's the case, yes, I totally agree. Okay, well
- 49:40Speaker 1: that product Tops Holiday twenty twenty five is dropping on
- 49:44Speaker 1: ten twenty two. Like I said in the show notes,
- 49:46Speaker 1: go there if you want to get to the link.
- 49:48Speaker 1: I mean, because apparently I think maybe we're just Tops
- 49:51Speaker 1: Holiday guys like it's good. We're gonna have to stake
- 49:54Speaker 1: our claiming the ground. We'll probably do a bigger overview
- 49:56Speaker 1: when that comes out, just to get into some of
- 49:59Speaker 1: the detail on the short prints and what you're looking
- 50:01Speaker 1: for and some of the details, because I mean, I
- 50:04Speaker 1: think it's going to be great fun, especially great way
- 50:07Speaker 1: to just add some Nick Kurt's Rookie cards to your PC.
- 50:10Speaker 1: Another way, we'll be opening some twenty twenty five Bowmen Chrome.
- 50:15Speaker 1: We're seeking it out in the dollar boxes. So we're
- 50:17Speaker 1: going to take a short little break. We'll be back
- 50:20Speaker 1: talking twenty twenty five Bowman Chrome. All right, Welcome back, everybody.
- 50:40Speaker 1: We are going to dive right into twenty twenty five
- 50:43Speaker 1: Bowman Chrome. So if you haven't checked out this pod before,
- 50:46Speaker 1: when we do an overview of a set, what we
- 50:49Speaker 1: do is just run through some of the details, talk
- 50:51Speaker 1: about lots of the cards in terms of what we're chasing,
- 50:55Speaker 1: what parallels we're looking at, what inserts are catching our eyes,
- 51:00Speaker 1: and kind of any other goofy easter eggs or oddballs
- 51:04Speaker 1: that tops and fanatics have kind of placed into these
- 51:07Speaker 1: sets because they have an mL for that nowadays, you
- 51:11Speaker 1: have to, honestly, there's so many sets out there, it
- 51:13Speaker 1: kind of makes sense that they've got to put some
- 51:15Speaker 1: sort of gimmicky thing into every set to get people
- 51:17Speaker 1: coming back. And so if you are listening to us
- 51:23Speaker 1: and you want to see a picture of these cards,
- 51:25Speaker 1: go right to rasball dot com, click on the post
- 51:27Speaker 1: related to this podcast, and you'll be able to see
- 51:30Speaker 1: all the cards in some form or fashion that we're
- 51:33Speaker 1: gonna describe.
- 51:34Speaker 2: Here.
- 51:34Speaker 1: I've got a smattering of some of the hot cards
- 51:37Speaker 1: from rookies that we're talking about, as well some of
- 51:39Speaker 1: the inserts and other chase cards, so that you can
- 51:42Speaker 1: see it right on rasball dot com. Link is, write
- 51:45Speaker 1: in the show notes or just type in raspball dot
- 51:48Speaker 1: com find cards and categories. We're up there every week.
- 51:51Speaker 1: All right, Well, with that, let's get into the actual
- 51:54Speaker 1: checklist details, So we've got a pretty standard setup, I
- 51:57Speaker 1: would say for Bowman Chrome this year. We've got one
- 51:59Speaker 1: hundred based cards with a mix of stars and rookies,
- 52:03Speaker 1: and then your one hundred prospect cards too that will
- 52:07Speaker 1: have a mix of minor leaguers and guys who have
- 52:12Speaker 1: had previous Bowmen First as well as some of the
- 52:14Speaker 1: vaunted Bowman First especially with the focus on some of
- 52:18Speaker 1: the January two signing prospects that come out of the
- 52:21Speaker 1: especially the Latin American countries and have been playing in
- 52:25Speaker 1: the DSL all summer, so we've got some hot names
- 52:28Speaker 1: there to be chasing. But with this hundred card set,
- 52:32Speaker 1: brew anything that really kind of stands out to you
- 52:36Speaker 1: from the get go in terms of either checklist strength
- 52:39Speaker 1: or hot rookies you're chasing, or anything else in terms
- 52:43Speaker 1: of pricing or how you're gonna rip and obtain Bowman
- 52:46Speaker 1: Chrome cards.
- 52:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I think probably the two big things that jump
- 52:50Speaker 2: out to me. One first of all, the pricing. I
- 52:53Speaker 2: actually think the pricing on this one is a little
- 52:55Speaker 2: bit more reasonable than it has been the past. And
- 52:57Speaker 2: I didn't go back and look up historical price seen
- 53:00Speaker 2: on Bowman Chrome, so I could just be Pe. Yeah,
- 53:05Speaker 2: and I saw to be just skewed against Bowman and
- 53:07Speaker 2: Bowman Draft, which is like seven thousand dollars a box anymore.
- 53:09Speaker 2: I'm kidding, it's more like six hundred, but it's still
- 53:13Speaker 2: you know, it's up there, Whereas here you're getting your
- 53:15Speaker 2: hobby box for about three hundred dollars your breaker's delight,
- 53:18Speaker 2: So hobby box will have two autos. Uh, your breaker's
- 53:20Speaker 2: Delight is about four hundred dollars. You have three autos
- 53:22Speaker 2: and some key parallels there, And I felt, I feel
- 53:26Speaker 2: like that's a lot more attractive than what you would
- 53:28Speaker 2: see in draft, where you might get like a Jumbo
- 53:31Speaker 2: for six seven hundred dollars for five autos or a
- 53:34Speaker 2: hobby for like four or five hundred dollars for three autos.
- 53:37Speaker 2: Like it feels like the the you know, dollars to
- 53:42Speaker 2: auto ratio is better. Uh if that's a technical technical thing.
- 53:45Speaker 2: So I do think that that's the first thing that
- 53:48Speaker 2: jumps out to me is like it's slightly more accessible
- 53:50Speaker 2: than it has been in in past years. The other
- 53:54Speaker 2: thing that you know, and I would say it jumps
- 53:56Speaker 2: out to me this is just a call out, is
- 53:57Speaker 2: that this is one of the Tarder Bowman products to
- 54:00Speaker 2: rip and collect, because to your point, you're targeting that
- 54:04Speaker 2: international free agent class and those first and those prospects.
- 54:09Speaker 2: Many of them can develop and have and be stars
- 54:13Speaker 2: and valuable and things like that, but almost all of
- 54:15Speaker 2: them are further off from the major leagues than anybody else's.
- 54:20Speaker 2: There's a much higher variability for what their ultimate outcome is.
- 54:25Speaker 2: And you go back years past and there's there's guys
- 54:28Speaker 2: that you were going after in these I'm gonna say,
- 54:31Speaker 2: like Robert Poissan was a good one, like back in
- 54:35Speaker 2: the twenty twenty one time frames like that, it was
- 54:38Speaker 2: just like this is the guys, and you can find
- 54:41Speaker 2: like his autos for like ten bucks now like because
- 54:43Speaker 2: like he just didn't turn into me, he didn't develop.
- 54:45Speaker 2: And so there's just a very high variability outcome, and
- 54:50Speaker 2: so it's a little bit harder to say, like here's
- 54:52Speaker 2: the top guys, here's who to go after, and it's
- 54:55Speaker 2: a little bit riskier to hold those guys. If you
- 54:58Speaker 2: do rip and you do hit a bigger name, their
- 55:00Speaker 2: market may never be better than is right now, and
- 55:02Speaker 2: it might be the guy that you just stashed away,
- 55:04Speaker 2: like I don't ever heard of this guy who ends
- 55:06Speaker 2: up being the value. So I think that that's just again,
- 55:09Speaker 2: I think about Bowmen Chrome. You don't have the college players,
- 55:13Speaker 2: you don't have the high school seniors things like that
- 55:15Speaker 2: that you can see that quick, quicker path. You have
- 55:17Speaker 2: the sixteen year old from the Dominican who's going to
- 55:20Speaker 2: play in the Complex League, and then it's going to
- 55:22Speaker 2: be five years before you really see what comes out
- 55:25Speaker 2: of it. And that's a tough sled for many collectors
- 55:28Speaker 2: or breakers or anybody like that out there trying to
- 55:30Speaker 2: play this game. So I think those are the main
- 55:32Speaker 2: things that kind of stick out to me looking at
- 55:34Speaker 2: this year's is this year's.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Release, Yeah, I mean, I do think that it's gotten
- 55:39Speaker 1: better in terms of people's knowledge of some of these
- 55:42Speaker 1: players that are coming across and playing in the Dominican
- 55:46Speaker 1: League and some of the other Complex leagues, just because
- 55:49Speaker 1: of the data that's out there and the scouting that's
- 55:52Speaker 1: available has gotten much sharper. Especially like to harken back
- 55:57Speaker 1: to like the past two years, the big prospects that
- 56:00Speaker 1: have been coming across in Bowmen Chrome have been Leo
- 56:03Speaker 1: Derees last year, and then before that was Ethan Sallas
- 56:07Speaker 1: Sallas obviously has gotten a little bit muddled as he's
- 56:11Speaker 1: moved his way through the minors, but still like what
- 56:13Speaker 1: like nineteen at double A or something like that, and
- 56:16Speaker 1: everybody's who is following prospects has some semblance of who
- 56:21Speaker 1: Leo Dreese is now, especially that he was traded for
- 56:24Speaker 1: Mason Miller at the trade deadline. So I mean, I
- 56:27Speaker 1: do think some of these players in this class of
- 56:31Speaker 1: the Bowman first are pretty strong. So some of the
- 56:35Speaker 1: chase guys that are out there are some of these names.
- 56:41Speaker 2: You can do it. You can do it.
- 56:42Speaker 1: I know I've only read them like this is. This
- 56:44Speaker 1: happens a lot. I don't know if this happens to you,
- 56:46Speaker 1: But you read the names all the time, and you've
- 56:48Speaker 1: just never had to listen to them pronounced because these
- 56:51Speaker 1: guys are in the minor leagues and you haven't necessarily
- 56:54Speaker 1: heard them on a podcast yet, and obviously you haven't
- 56:57Speaker 1: seen any game action. So we've got Joe schwar Gonzalez
- 57:00Speaker 1: from the San Francisco Giants is a big short stop
- 57:04Speaker 1: for them. The big guy who I think is gonna
- 57:07Speaker 1: be really hyped, especially just given his team situation, is
- 57:11Speaker 1: Illian Pana from the New York Mets, also a short stop.
- 57:14Speaker 1: Those guys both signed back in January. Another big name
- 57:18Speaker 1: is Andrew Salas from the Miaumu Marlins, who has struggled
- 57:23Speaker 1: I think a little bit more than those other two
- 57:25Speaker 1: as he's gotten into pro ball. He is the brother
- 57:29Speaker 1: of Ethan Salas and Jose Salas, and so he will
- 57:32Speaker 1: be working his way through the Marlins. Rainiell Rodriguez the
- 57:36Speaker 1: hot catcher for the Saintless Cardinals in this product Cardinals collectors,
- 57:42Speaker 1: so is the Iro Padilla who he might want to
- 57:46Speaker 1: stash away some Yairo Padillas out there if you're looking
- 57:49Speaker 1: for a good Cardinals card to chase. And then the
- 57:51Speaker 1: big one that I think has got a lot of hype,
- 57:54Speaker 1: and honestly, this is the one where I think the
- 57:56Speaker 1: hype probably outstrips the prospect pedigree right now is Shirtara
- 57:59Speaker 1: Mari for the Sacramento Athletics. He is a two way
- 58:04Speaker 1: player that came out of Japan. The big standout thing
- 58:06Speaker 1: here though, is that he signed some of his bowman
- 58:09Speaker 1: first in Kanji, and they also have age of Japanese
- 58:13Speaker 1: theme to them with Mount Fuji in the background. So
- 58:16Speaker 1: we've kind of lamented over the past about how Shohei
- 58:20Speaker 1: Otani did not have any Bowman first tops, and fanatics
- 58:24Speaker 1: made sure to correct that issue here a show to
- 58:26Speaker 1: Shataro Mauri by honestly like stuffing it down our throats
- 58:30Speaker 1: with some of the gimmicks to be able to make
- 58:32Speaker 1: sure that the market is aware of who Mari is
- 58:36Speaker 1: and has the availability of his Bowman first cards. So
- 58:39Speaker 1: any of those prospects really stand out to you as
- 58:42Speaker 1: like somebody who you might actually want to keep if
- 58:48Speaker 1: you're finding them in dollar boxes, you know, come December
- 58:53Speaker 1: or is there another name maybe on the list that
- 58:55Speaker 1: I haven't touched on.
- 58:57Speaker 2: I mean, I think you're hitting the main names that
- 58:59Speaker 2: I'm gonna say, re jump out to me of that group.
- 59:02Speaker 2: So you gave me five and I'm picking three. That's
- 59:04Speaker 2: not really going on a limb here.
- 59:05Speaker 1: Six.
- 59:07Speaker 2: Yeah. So Peyne I think is a cute name, Like
- 59:09Speaker 2: he's gonna be in a big market. Uh, there's definitely
- 59:12Speaker 2: a pedigree there, So I think that he's gonna be
- 59:14Speaker 2: one of those ones that people are really after. Ronal Rodriguez,
- 59:18Speaker 2: like of guys in the set, he's one of the
- 59:20Speaker 2: fews that has like moved further along and is made
- 59:24Speaker 2: a name for himself already and showing a lot of
- 59:26Speaker 2: that progress, and so he's not nearly as far away
- 59:28Speaker 2: as a lot of the rest of these guys. You're
- 59:30Speaker 2: talking maybe two years out for him to be, you know,
- 59:34Speaker 2: making the major league roster. So I think that's something.
- 59:37Speaker 2: And then Mari, I think is maybe the biggest one,
- 59:40Speaker 2: not because of initially the talent. He is a two
- 59:43Speaker 2: way player. He hasn't he hasn't pitched yet. He's really
- 59:45Speaker 2: only hit at this point in the minors, but I
- 59:48Speaker 2: think that that market because of the Japanese connection. Being
- 59:52Speaker 2: a first, he was one of the first players to
- 59:55Speaker 2: just skip all of the posting things like that, goes
- 59:57Speaker 2: straight from high school and sign with a major league club.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: I think he's gonna have really a big following. And
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: I was actually it was interesting before we recorded. I
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: jumped out to Instagram and just searched for Bowman to
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: see kind of what's been pulled, what things look like.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: His first refractor auto super fractor Auto has already been pulled,
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: so sorry, one of the big big ones off the
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: rip like day one, and so that that's out out there,
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: but I think those would be kind of the if
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: you're gonna hold, guys, those are probably the ones I
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: would hold because I think that there's something unique either
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: the market, the you know, the proximities and the majors,
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: or just the story that is going to kind of
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: lift their value overall. So those are kind of the
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: big some of the key names that I'm I'm kind
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: of watching at at this point in time.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: All right. And then the other big portion of what
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: he's going into Bowman Chrome is because it's only one
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: hundred bas cards set on top of those hundred prospect cards,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: the set really focuses on rookie cards, really highlights them,
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: and then the big stars as well. So it's a
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: much more focused checklist. You know, you're not getting all
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: those relievers and guys you never heard of that you
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: might get in Flagship or even Chrome. And so what
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: they're doing again here Tops and Fanatics is they're bringing
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: back the red rookie program that they ran for twenty
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: twenty five Bowmen in the Spring in the paper product,
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: and so there is a redemption that is parallel or
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: that goes along with that that kind of parallels what
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: we've seen with TOPS Chrome and VP buybacks over the
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: past couple of years. So when we were talking about this,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: you go back to the spring and look at our
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: twenty twenty five Bowman pod. We were a little unsure
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: how this would work out because like to be able
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: to be eligible for this redemption program, you had to
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: win the Rookie of the Year, and then that's when
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: the Red Rookie parallels would go forward as being more valuable.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: And I should also clarify that the Red Rookie parallel
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: what's making it red is the little RC logo on
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: the card is red so that you can denote it
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: from just a regular base card. And so they've rounded
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: it out here tops and fanatics, where the Bowman checklist
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: was very limited in the rookies, and especially the way
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Rookie of the Year works, it's such a dart throw
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: at the beginning of the year, they made sure to
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: gather a lot of the names that were not included
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: in that Bowman product put them in Bowman chrome so
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: that there's still some redemption that's going on. So Brew
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: let people remind people what the redemption tiers are, how
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: the process is gonna work here for these Red Rookie
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: cards going forward, and then your thoughts and advice on
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: how to approach it.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: Yeah. So, uh the red Rookie. Uh, this is fan cash,
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: So this is fan handcrafts wrong. Fan Fanatics basically credit
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: on their on their site to buy memorabilia, you know,
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: fan gear or cards most likely if if you're buying
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: these cards, you're going back for more. And for the
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: Rookie of the Year, it's worth one hundred dollars of fan
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: cash if you have that card, and the print run
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: on these is about ten thousand, so it's actually quite
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: a bit out there. They're kind of like one in
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: three hobby packs that won one the Breaker's Delight and
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: if you if they win the Rookie of the Year,
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: then they're eligible for all these escalators across their career,
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: which is really interesting because this is like a twenty
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: year program that Fanatics is putting out there. They're just
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: trying to lay if anything goes wrong with Fanatics and
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: they can just get out from under this. But for
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: every MVP or Cy Young that they win after winning
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: the Rookie of the Year, there's an escalator. So for
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: the first one, that one turns into three hundred dollars.
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: After the second one, it goes from three hundred to
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: five hundred. If you get to third one, you go
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: to seven hundred. So Kurt, you know Kershaw, you know
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: you could be up in that. You know that range there.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: But well he never won the record all of year.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: Well it's true, he's no matter. But then a hall
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: of fame if they make the Hall of fame, Like
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: we are really looking out here, thousand dollars h fan
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: cash on that now time volume of money. I didn't
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: do the math year that thousand dollars from an inflation
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: perspective might not be worth munch in twenty years, so
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: you know, keep that in mind. But that's kind of
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: what's coming out at this point, Like that's what the
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: value these are. So if you know who the Rookie
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: of the year is, you are essentially have a one
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: hundred dollars card or credit to Fangraphs. Fangraphs it is
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: again Fanatics to go redeem that card and you'll have
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: an account a credit in your account, and you can
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: just spend that on Fanatics as you see, or you
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: can hold it and see what happens and it doesn't expire,
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: so you can decide when you'd like to make that
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: make that play, So it's a it's a fun program.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: I actually kind of like it now, and it's gonna
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: be really interesting because there it's pretty clear who the
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: AL Rookie of the Year is going to be this year.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: If you haven't noticed, it's a guy named Nick Kurtz.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: I think I was looking at his betting nods. It's
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: like plus eight. I was in, like the guy is
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: the rookie of the year, and like his cards on
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: eBay right now for this red redemption which me don't
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: get me wrong, like they're gonna drop over time, but
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: like the general buy it now price is ninety ninety nine,
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: like it is the price of the redemption, but like
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: it makes sense. Right you're sitting there going there's upside
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: in the future and if I can, you know, get
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: it at eighty or ninety bucks. It's just kind of
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: like a little cupon on my next hobby box type
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: of thing. But where it gets really interesting is over
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: the NL side of things, because that race is not
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: nearly as cut and dry. So I'm curious n L
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: side of things, who do you got as your Rookie
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: of the year. As we close things out here between
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: I mean, I'll give you the two names is probably
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: between it's probably Drake Baldwin or Kate Kate Horton, both
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: of them in the in this product.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I vote for Drake Baldwin personally, just
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: because like there's I don't know, I think I'll age
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: by or two Like in terms of like if I
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: had to vote that, Drake Baldwin's probably got a more
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: promising career and in terms of what he's shown just
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: has been really fantastic from the plate and Kate Whrton
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: a lot of luck that's gone into that that profile,
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: and you know he doesn't strike out a lot of dudes.
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Is I don't know, I think it feels like it's
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: a lucky run for me.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: Yeah, And so that's that's what's actually interesting, is like
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: I said, Kurtz is selling almost that like face value
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: of this redemption, but Horton and Baldwin are both selling
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: around sixty dollars, both of them, And so you're playing
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: an upside game. If you think it gets to me Baldwin,
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: you can buy a sixty dollars card. You can turn
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: that into one hundred dollars credit on Fanatics and so
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: like if you want to play in Bowman Draft later
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: this year, Like I said, a six hundred dollars, Well,
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: you can buy six Drake Baldwin's for three sixty and
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: get your almost get almost a half off on that
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: on that box. But you could also be wrong and
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: be out three sixty because this card worth the dollar
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: later because there's ten thousand copies of it. And so
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: it's a really really interesting dynamic that they put out here,
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: And I think the right move on those is probably
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: sell them right now and don't don't worry about to
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: take your sixty in run Kurtz is probably a different, different,
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: different deal. So I still I'm actually this program has
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: kind of grown on me, and I think it's also
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: just a fun little variation. The one thing that I
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: think they did miss is that they included so many
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: guys that actually couldn't even win Rookie of the Year.
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: Because we got like James Wood, Spencer Schwellenbach, Connor Norby,
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: Ben Rice, like all those guys that like couldn't win
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: Rookie of the Year, they made Rookie red redemption cards for, so, like,
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of guys out there that
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: were pulling James would and be like yes, I look
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: at this, I hit it, and there's like a second,
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: you can't even win the Rookie of the Year.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: That is, yeah, that's really goofye yeah, I hadn't thought
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: about that. The other but yeah, the other thing too
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: is like, don't even try to think about gaming this
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: into the future, like take the hundred bucks and run
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: this year, because like, even as great as Nick Kurtz is, like,
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: it does not age well the Rookie of the Year.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: Like you can just look over the history of this award.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: I think a lot of this is born out of
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: just what Otani and Judge turned into the respective twenty
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: seventeen and twenty eighteen ALE Rookies Rookies of the Year,
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: and people thinking that is like the trajectory going forward
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: for people who win Rookie of the Year. That is
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: very anomalist. This is a this is an award that like,
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: you know, just last year, Luise Heal won it in
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: the AL twenty twenty two, Michael Harris the second one
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: twenty twenty one, Jonathan India twenty twenty. Kyle Lewis isn't
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: even in the league anymore when the award. Jimmy Hellixen
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: has worn the Rookie of the Year, so it just
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: it's all over the place. So trying to game this
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: out to get a thousand dollars out of a future
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: Hall of Famer is just never gonna happen. So I mean,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: I do think that the NL race does make it
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: interesting where like maybe there's a possibility some of those
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: end up in dollar boxes, and I hope that happens actually,
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: like in the future, as I think this will become
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: an annual tradition for Bowman products, the way that the
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: MVP buyback is for top Scrome, And I'm just looking
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: forward to the day when it's some like nobody out
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: of twenty whatever Bowman paper has the Rookie red gets
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: stuffed in dollar boxes all summer breaks out wins the
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Rookie of the Year award, and you can just dig
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: through old dollar boxes and find one hundred bucks sitting there.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: So that that's where the future of the program I
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: think would get really really cool.
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: Yeah, And I will say, if you care a redemption
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: limit of fifty cards, it's in the terms and conditions here.
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: I was really trying to I was playing the e
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: Shiero game here, trying to figure out if you win
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: Rookie of the Year in MVP in the same year, Like,
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: how does that? How does that play? And so I
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: think there's Yeah, they're smart, they got some lawyers there.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: I'm sure there's a lot of fine print behind this
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: entire program, and even like I wouldn't be shocked if
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: there's something about like and I haven't found it yet,
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: but like you have to redeem the Rookie of the
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Year within the first year, and then that's no longer eligible. Like,
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: there's probably some little silver lining behind all of this
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: that we have to be careful with.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: I will say maybe one of them is I can
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: see in the fine print on the website is that
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: the red RC if they do make the Hall of
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: Fame and they qualify for this, you've only got five
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: years from the date that they make the Hall of
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: Fame for you to turn it in. So it's not
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: like an in peportuity where you just hope that they
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: eventually get in through some veterans committee. That you can't
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: just hold on the card forever. So that is a
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: that is a caveat there. Okay, let's get into some
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: of the autos. I think in terms of what's in
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: this product, because especially like you line this Bowman Chrome
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: product up to Tops Chrome, and you know, you can
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: draw a lot of parallels between the redemption program that
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: we just covered. But I would say that the one
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: of the things that really kind of differentiates the Bowmen
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: Chrome set compared to what Tops Chrome has been the
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: back in the past few years is actually the strength
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: of the Auto list. So because it is.
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: A more.
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: Concentrated checklist in terms of what you're looking at from
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: stars and rookies, you've just got better players overall in
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: the Auto Checklist. It's obviously being anchored a lot by
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: Nick Kurtz this year too, so he's making up for
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: where Rookie Sasaki has kind of fallen down and not
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: being able to support this product. You've got a lot
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: of those hot prospects that I was talking about. I
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: guess the one calculus that we always can't figure out
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: is like you can tell that tops and fanatics stuff
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: these with like some of the lower level prospects, and
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: you never get like the full count of how many
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: base level autos there are. But it certainly does feel
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: like a lot of the kind of backup middle infielder
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: or guys who are going to flame out sign a
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: lot more of them and put them in the product
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: than some of the really hot guys. But that's a
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: very different discussion because if you're just looking at the
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: raw checklist, it's not too bad, right, Yeah, If.
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: You're just look at the bass checklists, it's really really
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: not too bad. There's a lot of fun names here
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: that you're you're going after, you know, and they have
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: I would say, I would say big names, but they have,
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: you know, good names, like it's it's all the stars.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: Like when you're actually looking at the actual major league
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: names here, there's almost really not a bad name that
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: you're gonna pick. Is either gonna be a rookie card
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: of a guy, and most of the rookie cards here
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: are like big the bigger names, and or it's gonna
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: be your you know, your your big names can be Erotani's,
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: your Judge, your Trout's, your de Grams, you know, all
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: those kind of guys. So I think that there is
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: a lot of fun that you can have, Like if
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: you're pulling parallels, and trust me, there's plenty of them,
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: you're gonna get of the bigger names, and so that
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: does kind of boost it up a little bit when
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: you are kind of wrapping those prospects that you haven't
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: heard of and you're hoping they, you know, turn into
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: something in one day, because there is you know we're
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: about you know, you're one hundred deep in the prospects,
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: and you know there's gonna be some names here that
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: you see. This is the only time you've ever seen him,
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: and it's gonna be a two dollars auto sitting in
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: a in a box here in two years for the
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: overall overall checklist. So I do want to go back,
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: though I want to go back. I did finally find
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: the fountain print in the red redemption. Yes it's a
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: it's a one year window. So if you don't read
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: him the Rookie of Kurtz this by March of next year,
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: just like the MVP buybacks, you can't redeem it later
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: for the rookie And listen, if he doesn't win MVP
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: that next time, you can't redeem it again for that.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: It's like a after he wins that each award, you
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: have to redeem it for that. That that so like
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: the one crazy guy out there holding for the Hall
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: of Fame on Nick Kurtz, like come on, dude, like
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: that's that's like he wins three m vps and it
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: doesn't make the Hall of Fame. Like, oh well, I'm
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: just stringing this one along, so like, yeah, that's that's that's.
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: Uh takes a lot of gall the first time, said
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: Goll on this broadcast. But it takes a lot of
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: gall to really hold on to that kind of card
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: when you just throw one hundred dollars out the window.
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: That that easily, especially if you can do fifty of them,
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: so good luck.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: I was gonna say that's the other thing, that that
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: tier of like five hundred to seven hundred dollars per
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: second MVP or Cy Young and third m v P
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: and Sai Young in a thousand for Hall of Fame.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: They didn't wait that, considering like what the odds are,
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: if you I think it's probably much more rare to
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: win to even two MVPs one, one, three, it's certainly
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: much rare to win three MPs than than make it
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame. But I even think too, so
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: it's like that's the math isn't mathing.
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: Sorry, sorry, I had to go back because I just
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: I found that efic. You're like, wait a second this this,
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: Uh yeah, I give a little more credit than I
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: should if I told like I figured there's a catch
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: and there was. But anyway back back to the main show.
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: Here, Yes, and we did skip one of the main
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: things because the one thing about Bowman Chrome here is
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: we've got so many different parallels of both the base
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: and the prospects. I was trying to count them out.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: It's too respectable for the base. So I think we're
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: gonna skip doing our traditional rundown of the base because
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: not enough parallels for us, because all the parallels in
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: this product are based in the prospects side, and boy
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: do we have plenty. So I'm gonna let you prep yourself,
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: you know, stretch that jaw a little bit, get a
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: little bit of water, and do whatever you need to do,
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: because while you rattle through all the prospect parallels that
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: we've got in this product, just to show you too, like,
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: they really pump these things out in terms of the
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: prospects nowadays. And so if you do hit one where
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: it's like somebody on the border and it wasn't one
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: of those top guys we were talking about, it's probably
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: just best to move on because the value of these
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: things is only gonna decrease over time. It's gonna be fascinating.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: I think to see how many we get in Bowman
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: draft coming up to you, because usually it feels like
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: they add a few more to that. And we've already
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: got a lengthy list that you're about to rattle off
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: for us. Brew you ready to rattle off the prospect
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: parallel list.
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: I'm glad you stalled me there because I had the
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: wrong parallelist, like this isn't that bad? And then you're right.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: I had the base base parallel list here and not
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: the chrome prospect parallel list because that has a whole
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: different ball game there. So going after the so the
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: base chrome prospect parallel list here, let's let's let's have
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: some fun. So first of all, unnumbered, we get the
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: mini diamond refractors. Expect a print run around fifteen hundred those.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: We have the shimmers about eight hundred and fifty those.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: Both of those are hobby only. We then get into
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: numbered from here on. How we are numbered cards refractors
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: out of four ninety nine, geometric refractors out of four
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: ninety nine, pulsar refractors out of three ninety nine speckles
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: out of two ninety nine, purple geometric out of two fifty,
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: purple refractors out of two fifty, purple pulsar refractors out
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: of two fifty, and purple shim out of two fifty.
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: Don't worry more, purple purple waves refractors out of two fifty.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: If you thought we didn't have no more stuff two fifties,
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: there's also fuchsia geometrics out of two fifty and fusia
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: shimmers out of two fifties. So do the math. That's
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: fifteen hundred or seventeen fifty out of two point fifty.
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: Math not math. In there, we have blue geometrics out
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: of one fifty, blue refractors out of one fifty, blue
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: reptilian refractors out of one fifty, blue wave refractors out
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: of one fifty. We have acta aqua geometric out of one,
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: twenty five aqua refractors out of one, twenty five aqua
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: pulsar refractors out of one twenty five. Oddly, we only
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: have one card out of one hundred the wave refractors
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: out of one hundred. Those are hobby backs only, but
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: then they made up for out of ninety nine where
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: You've your g green geometric refractors, green refractors, green reptilian refractors,
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: your green shimmers, and you're green waves all out of
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: ninety nine. Not to be outdone, we go to the
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: yellow geometrics out of seventy five, the yellow refractors, and
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: yellow waves out of seventy five. Then we have a
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: nice gold run here, a gold rue of believe, five
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: old geometrics out of fifty, gold refractors out of fifty,
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: reptilian refractors out of fifty, gold shimmers and gold waves
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: both out of fifty. Don't worry, We're not done. Orange
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: geometrics out of twenty five, orange refractors out of twenty five,
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: orange reptilion refractors out of twenty five, and the orange
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: shimmer out of twenty five. Then we get to the
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: black geometrics out of ten, black refractors out of ten,
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: Black reptilian refractors out of ten, black wave refractors out
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: of ten. Then we get to our out of five,
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: which are actually not out of fi. They're actually out
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: of twenty five because there's five of them. Red geometrics
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: out of five, red refractors out of five red reptilian
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: refractors out of five, red shimmer out of five, and
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: the red wave refractor out of five, and then we
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: have our super factor one of one's. So I didn't count.
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: I couldn't keep counts. But there are a number of
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: numbered refractors in the set in parallels, so you're gonna
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: find some of them, that's for sure.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: Yeah, that's for sure. You've read of that is forty
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: eight parallels, that that there was no printing plates on there,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: but I'm pretty sure there's probably printing plates of their
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: classic yellow, Cayenne, and magenta as well as black, so
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: that's gonna be for So that's fifty two falls just
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: a little bit short of TOPS Chrome, which is unfortunate.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: Step your game up, Tops Fanatics, because I'm pretty sure
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: Tops Chrome top came in at like fifty.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: Six or something, so yeah, it was in the mid fifties.
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so fifty two is pretty weak sauce stuff.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: I don't think it's coincidental that Shatara Mori is in
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: this product, and you've got five different green parallels and
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: five different gold parallels for those a's colors, So a
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: little little ham in it up there for tops fanacs.
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: But that is absurd. It's the five of each color
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: sort of thing breakout that we've been getting is gotten
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: a little bit too much, Like you would think that maybe,
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: I mean part of it is like I would be
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: fascinating to see some of the numbers on the Breaker's
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: Delight movement that they get, because like you would think
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: that some of these you would want to limit them
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: to Breaker's Delight and like maybe especially I'm thinking like
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: something maybe like Reptilian refractors or something too, like cut
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: them in some sort of proportion so that like you know,
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: your gold's fifties are actually golds out of twenty five's
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: or something, you know what I mean, like divide it
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: by half just to make them a little more rare
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: and mix it up a little bit. But yeah, that
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: is a lot. It's quite the rainbow to put together
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: for some of these first that people are going to
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: be wanting to do, and it's going to be dang
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: near impossible.
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: It is. And to your point, there's only one the geometric,
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: so they're the only one that's breakers Lights specific, and
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: then you got some of your hobby specifics in the
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: shimmers as well, But otherwise it's kind of all over
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: I think wave might be hobby specific as well, So
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: there's a few shimmer wave things like that, but generally,
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: man like they've done, they've outdone themselves. I'm just waiting
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: for the time what we do out of fifties, but
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: we overnumber them, and so it's like, well, here's the
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: card number eighty eight out of fifty, like that's basically
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: where we're at.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I'm sure that has happened. And I mean, yeah,
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: it's crazy to try to think how they keep track
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: of all the numbering on all those different parallels, just
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: because there's so many, and by comparison the base card
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: set with the Stars and Rookies, it looks like it's
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: clocks in at thirty two parallels, so much less significant there.
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: But for those bas cards, you've also got kind of
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: your other parallels that are buried in here where they
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: do short print parallels of either different photos, especially for
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: the rookies in terms of looking at image variations there,
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: but you're also going to see a few image variations
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: on some of the prospects as well. You're also going
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: to be seeing some of the other variations, like there's
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: international refractors two for some of the prospects, and then
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: we've got the color run variations where and other short
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: prints for those basic rookies in the the the base
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: set where you know, mostly focusing your big guys. I
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: don't think any any of them include Hayden bird Song
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: for example, but it's a list where James Wood and
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: Roki Sasaki are in those lists, so uh, that's pre standard.
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: I will call out that the retro Fractor, this is
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: something that Bowman has been doing pretty much every release.
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: For this one, it's it's fun, so well, I'll start
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: with it unfun. Well, sorry, Tony Perez, but you are
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: the unfun one. I don't Tony Perez is like he
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: doesn't even his old stuff from the seventies doesn't sell
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: for anything. So I think it's great to get him
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: in this product because Perez's first retro factor for Bowman Chrome.
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: There are autograph versions because Tony Prez is still with us.
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: The other guy, Long Long Dad, Joe Jackson is where
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: they're going to shootless Joe Jackson for the retro Fractor,
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: which we've been advocating for guys to go early and earlier.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: I'm still pushing earlier. I want King Kelly I want
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: Old Hoss Radbourn really push it out there. But I
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: like to see where the direction is going here with
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: Shoeless Joe Jackson in terms of the infamy too. So
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: I'm in an approval of Shoeless Joe Jackson, very very
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: lukewarm on Tony Perez because he's probably maybe the worst
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: retro fractor we've had. But your thoughts on cureless Joe
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: Jackson and Tony Prez.
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: Here, Yeah, I'm kind of right there with you, Like
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Tony Perez. It's just we talked about this
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: like this. This is kind of a cool thing they're doing,
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: trying to give first moments like these big names, but
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: it's basic. Such a big names when they started this,
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: you know, Babe Ruth and you know Ted Williams and
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: things like that, they're gonna quickly run through them and
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: start getting to your press is the world and here
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: we are. But I do like the movement too, Shoeless
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: Joe Jackson. I think the hobby does. Like if you
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: want to go buy one of those on eBay right now,
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: it's five hundred bucks to get one of those. It is,
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: you know, a super short prey, but they're not the
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: most available cards, and I think that they're because the
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: lower of Shoeless Joe Jackson, I think some I mean,
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: I've seen mixed reviews, and I'm going to say it
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: probably is an age gap thing where some some of
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: the older collectors still hold a little grudge of who
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: shows Joe is where maybe a younger collector is just
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: like he's it's lower, it's lower, and it's cool at
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: this point. And so I do I love the inclusion
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: there because it's a little divisive at the end of
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: the day. So there, yeah, your point, give me old
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: lost Redburn. Let's let's get there. But Shoeless Joe is
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: a step in the right direction.
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: Okay. Last thing I think we've got to cover for
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: Bowman Chrome now is just the insert. So I will
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: say that the insert game is pretty strong here this
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: year for Bauman Chrome that they honestly, twenty twenty five
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: in general has been pretty strong, I think for tops
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: fanatics in terms of the parallels that we've been getting
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: and the inserts, just because I think they've really and
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: pushing it in terms of like what they can do
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: from a design perspective, and I think they know that
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: they've got to step up their game on the edges
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: because this is such an expensive product, you've got to
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: have something where And maybe it's just because back in
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: the day in the nineties, like the inserts were everything
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: to us. You know, we didn't have tons of parallels
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: to chase, we didn't have tons of autos to chase,
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: so you chase the inserts and they were cool because
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: they stood out from the flagship product. I'm on board
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: with these Bowman Chrome inserts, so we've got some of
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: the classic repeats. This will be a good time to
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: also go to rasball dot com and check out the
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: pictures because you'll be able to really see the flavor
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: of these inserts and get a feel for what they
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: look like. We've got some repeats, including garbage pail Kids.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: It came from the the It came to the League,
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: which is like an alien based insert, which I didn't
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: think would work without Jason Dominguez who was in the
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: Bowman product in the spring, but it works just as
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: It's kind of got this old school vibe with the
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: old Bowman logo that I love, and the Mars attacks
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: kind of look to it. So that's great. You've got
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: the etched inserts, which looked like stained glassed. You've got
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: the Bowman Spotlights, which is never going anywhere. It's so popular.
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: It's this is the classic car that we've been talking about.
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: All black background, looks like the players underneath a one spotlight.
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: You got max Max Volume is back, which is a
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: little corny, but it looks like the players kind of
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: like in a boom box, and there's lots of sound
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: kind of animations and related things. We've got ascensions in
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: here again, which is probably the weakest insert. It's just
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: kind of like a framed looking drawing or painting or something.
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: You got some new ones though, too, which is nice
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: to see. You got some fresh inserts of audios, which
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: is a home Run themed insert. We've also got Meltmashers,
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: which looks like a combination of like melted crans and
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: lava lamps, which they've done this a couple of times now,
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: so it looks cool, but it's you know, the charms
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: starting to wear off a little bit with tops. And
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: then we've got Meteoric Rise, which looks like some sort
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: of combination of tops, cosmic chrome or stadium Club Audios
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: looks like a little bit of a stadium club insert
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: as well too. So any of these inserts really stand
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: out for you, any of them that you really want
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: to pick up and are going to hone it on.
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think you're right, like they this
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: is step up their their insert game, and it does
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: feel like they've they've been listening to us. I'm gonna
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: to our own horn here saying like you got to
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: get back to those those crazy cool inserts that like
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: you want to collect that set as a subset of
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: the whole thing. Like and you know, if I had
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: to pick one of all these, I think Etched is
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: the coolest. Bye. But it's a super short printed like
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: you're talking one hundred dollars cards above those look absolutely
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: phenomenal for the same glass effect that they have on those.
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: But if I look at the new ones, you know,
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: I'm actually really diging the audios cards, Like when I
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: first heard the name of Eah but at it and
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: like it just read reads like that late nineties early
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: two thousands insert. You know, they've I want to say,
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: there's fireworks in the background. You got the bat kind
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: of full of smoke. I'm looking at kind of a
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: Bobby Wit version here, and they've got the stadium kind
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: of behind him, and that's kind of you know, the
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: for all the players. It's like the ball kind of
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: shooting off with smoke and it just it just really pops,
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: and I think it is and it seems to be
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: really relatively available, like they're they're selling for three, four
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: or five dollars right after the rip and so they're
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: gonna be plentiful, and it's actually good art on the cards,
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: and so that's probably the one if I had to
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: pick one, Like I'm gonna be kind of picking up
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: in dollar boxes because they just look great in the
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: collection and they're just really cool cards and they do
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: kind of harken back to like you could definitely see
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: Barry Bonds and King Grifrey Junior and some of the
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: old guys on on these cards. And then you're looking
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: a's like, no, it's so tani and it's wit and
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: it's judged like it is kind of a cool, cool,
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: different effect. And so I'm glad they stepped up their
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: insert game. It matches true collectors in Bowman in Bowmen
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: Chrome here when some guys might just be chasing chasing
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: the big names and the big autos, there's still something
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: for everybody.
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree, and I think it's also great
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: to see like these inserts be well designed for people
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: who are building PCs of these rookie cards. They just
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: really stand out. They look great and they're fun to
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: kind of add and the pop when you put them
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: in like the one touch holders, and I love displaying them.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: So kudos to Tops and Bowman for putting together a
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: great set of inserts and with that, I think we've
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: made through twenty twenty five Bowman Chrome here. Brew So
