- 1:01SPEAKER_08: Hey, welcome back to Designing Building Mid-Illinois.
- 1:04SPEAKER_08: I'm Chris, alongside with my co-host Caitlin.
- 1:06SPEAKER_08: Hi! Hey, now usually we tune in, you know, we're talking about the liberal side of your hard aim, that's the nuts and bolts of designing building your home, which is what we do every single day over at Big Dog Construction.
- 1:18SPEAKER_08: But we've always said that building doesn't stop at your property line.
- 1:22SPEAKER_08: It also is how we design and build our lives, our health, and our community.
- 1:26SPEAKER_08: And right now, our community is gearing up for an event that will literally only happen once in our lifetime.
- 1:32SPEAKER_08: And it is on June 26, 2026.
- 1:35SPEAKER_08: Carloville is celebrating 62626 day.
- 1:39SPEAKER_08: The town is buzzing, but let's be honest, because there's so much going on between the Route 66 Jubilee and the Chamber of Commerce events, there's been a lot of confusion about who is doing what and where you need to be.
- 1:50SPEAKER_08: So today we are gearing up and clearing all this up.
- 1:54SPEAKER_08: We're bringing in the heavy hitters, John Griffle, who is the president of the Chamber of Commerce right here in Carlville, Illinois, and Bobby Bates, the Chambers Person of the Year and the driving force behind the daytime jubilee.
- 2:06SPEAKER_08: By the end of this episode, you're gonna have the exact itinerary for the ultimate Carloville celebration.
- 2:13SPEAKER_08: So let's get into it, right?
- 2:15SPEAKER_08: So, John Griffle, glad you're here.
- 2:18SPEAKER_08: Glad you're on our designing podcast today.
- 2:20SPEAKER_08: Tell us a little about who John Griffle is.
- 2:23SPEAKER_09: Yeah, well, first of all, thanks for having me.
- 2:24SPEAKER_09: Uh great opportunity.
- 2:26SPEAKER_09: So I am a sixth generation family farmer.
- 2:28SPEAKER_09: Uh, I farm just south of town.
- 2:30SPEAKER_09: Six, love it.
- 2:30SPEAKER_09: Yep, six.
- 2:31SPEAKER_09: So our we can track we can trace our uh family farm back to 1856.
- 2:35SPEAKER_05: Wow right there.
- 2:36SPEAKER_09: So it's you know, it's really in the blood with it.
- 2:39SPEAKER_09: And then I also uh am a part-time real estate agent and then have been the Chamber of Commerce president for the last uh four years.
- 2:46SPEAKER_09: In that time, we've seen a lot of growth with the chamber side.
- 2:48SPEAKER_09: We've went from 12 to 67 to 93, and now we're over 130 members.
- 2:54SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 2:54SPEAKER_09: So for a community of our size, we've uh had a ton of support from businesses, individuals, yeah, everybody.
- 3:01SPEAKER_09: So a ton of momentum.
- 3:02SPEAKER_09: We've had a terrific board to work with on that.
- 3:04SPEAKER_08: So in four four years, you've seen the growth go from what was your starting number?
- 3:08SPEAKER_08: 12.
- 3:09SPEAKER_08: 12.
- 3:09SPEAKER_08: 12 to 130 something now.
- 3:11SPEAKER_09: We whenever we came in and brought the chamber in, we we came in with uh a decent amount of debt, and we had 12 members who were essentially there because they had not put, they'd not turned off the auto pay on their credit cards.
- 3:21SPEAKER_09: That's that was our membership.
- 3:22SPEAKER_09: That would be me.
- 3:23SPEAKER_09: So that that that was our membership base.
- 3:25SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 3:25SPEAKER_09: And right in, you know, as you can relate to, we kind of 10x'd it, right?
- 3:28SPEAKER_08: Yes, that's right.
- 3:29SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 3:32SPEAKER_08: Sweet.
- 3:32SPEAKER_08: So 130 plus members now of the chamber, and uh the strong board is what you contribute that to, and then the community that you guys are making it aware of what is now why the chamber's here and what the chamber is doing for us, right?
- 3:46SPEAKER_08: So great.
- 3:47SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 3:48SPEAKER_08: So we have got coming up on June 26th.
- 3:53SPEAKER_08: Do you want to explain a little bit about June 26th and the importance of that?
- 3:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so we will we have the opportunity to celebrate our postal code day uh 626-26.
- 4:04SPEAKER_09: Um, six two six.
- 4:06SPEAKER_09: And uh we kind of had we'd marked this on our calendars for about a year, year and a half because we heard last year was Eddersville.
- 4:12SPEAKER_09: Eddersville had the same day.
- 4:13SPEAKER_09: And so we kind of had we thought about it, we'd seen advertising for it, kind of poked around in what they were doing, and we're like, this is this could be a big opportunity to do something.
- 4:21SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, right.
- 4:21SPEAKER_09: Um so last year we hosted the Taste of Carlinville event, and we kind of ran that as our signature community event.
- 4:28SPEAKER_09: Um and we looked to continue to do that going into the future, but we thought that's a good test run to see if we can do something on this day and do it big.
- 4:35SPEAKER_09: And we had so you guys had it in mind I was yeah, I didn't realize it was a foresight of what we had thought this would be an opportunity for it.
- 4:43SPEAKER_09: We hadn't locked it in as saying it would be that date, but it was kind of testing our group because we'd ran a lot of member run events, but we hadn't done a big community event.
- 4:51SPEAKER_09: Correct.
- 4:52SPEAKER_09: So we kind of wanted to it'd been a while, yeah.
- 4:54SPEAKER_09: It it we're our board didn't have experience with it.
- 4:56SPEAKER_09: We didn't bring anybody returning back from previous boards or the chamber.
- 4:59SPEAKER_09: The chamber restarted with the whole new.
- 5:01SPEAKER_05: I mean, I can't think of anything like that that we've ever had in my lifetime.
- 5:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I think we have a ton of momentum going on.
- 5:08SPEAKER_05: Yes, and it was wildly successful.
- 5:10SPEAKER_05: So now I feel like you're probably going in to the June 26th feeling pretty confident.
- 5:15SPEAKER_09: Yeah, hopefully.
- 5:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 5:17SPEAKER_09: Well, I mean, I feel nervous, but that's my job, right?
- 5:19SPEAKER_09: Everybody else should feel really good about it, right?
- 5:21SPEAKER_05: Right, right.
- 5:22SPEAKER_05: And we do.
- 5:23SPEAKER_09: I mean, we have a board that has just jumped in every time we brought up an idea like this, full in our community members, our our business members, everybody has just supported us in every opportunity.
- 5:32SPEAKER_09: We would call that massive action.
- 5:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 5:34SPEAKER_09: Yes, we would.
- 5:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I mean it is, and that that's what that's what our story has been is that uh we we kind of laid out a vision for it and asked people to believe in us, and they did.
- 5:43SPEAKER_09: I mean, we just want to consistently try and follow through on that.
- 5:46SPEAKER_08: Well, John, I I must eject this here because we do the 10x stuff.
- 5:49SPEAKER_08: You know, the four levels of action we talk about.
- 5:52SPEAKER_08: None, which that's kind of what the board did prior to you and the new board jumping in there, right?
- 5:58SPEAKER_08: You have retreat, and it was actually retreating a little bit to a certain degree because taking on debt that was there and everything.
- 6:04SPEAKER_08: Then you have normal action.
- 6:05SPEAKER_08: It's just doing the day-to-day, okay.
- 6:07SPEAKER_08: We got our members.
- 6:07SPEAKER_08: Yep, we'll take your money and list you on the website.
- 6:09SPEAKER_08: We're good.
- 6:10SPEAKER_08: But massive action.
- 6:11SPEAKER_08: That is the one that definitely 10x is everything you put yourself into.
- 6:15SPEAKER_08: I agree.
- 6:16SPEAKER_08: I love it that our community is doing that right here in mid-Illinois.
- 6:20SPEAKER_05: And the marketing, the marketing is unreal.
- 6:22SPEAKER_05: Aaron, we gotta give her a shout out.
- 6:23SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 6:23SPEAKER_05: I feel like that has really helped take it to the next level.
- 6:27SPEAKER_09: Oh, absolutely.
- 6:27SPEAKER_09: It's what sets it's what sets us apart from other chambers in the area.
- 6:30SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 6:30SPEAKER_09: And that's what we we've always looked at it in that same kind of analogy.
- 6:33SPEAKER_09: We've we've compared it to baseball.
- 6:34SPEAKER_09: We're like, we need to get on base.
- 6:36SPEAKER_09: We need to consistently get on base.
- 6:38SPEAKER_09: We need to, you know, keep moving it around, and then we're kind of looking at this as our home run hit, right?
- 6:42SPEAKER_09: This is this is the culmination of all those years of consistently getting on base, doing the right things.
- 6:47SPEAKER_05: And only four.
- 6:48SPEAKER_05: I mean, I know, I mean, realistically, we've got the battery.
- 6:52SPEAKER_05: We got the home run.
- 6:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's right.
- 6:54SPEAKER_05: All star, baby.
- 6:55SPEAKER_05: All-star.
- 6:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:57SPEAKER_07: Love it.
- 6:58SPEAKER_05: So let's move on because since there's two events going on, there's so much excitement.
- 7:04SPEAKER_05: There's been a lot of people asking, what is the chamber specific role on that day since 26-26?
- 7:12SPEAKER_09: So our role that day is we have run the night.
- 7:15SPEAKER_09: Um, our our vision since we brought back the chamber is how do we fill in the gaps?
- 7:19SPEAKER_09: Because we looked at the original plan.
- 7:20SPEAKER_09: There was events happening in Carlinville in 42 out of 52 weekends of the year.
- 7:24SPEAKER_09: So we don't need to add a ton of programming to that, right?
- 7:27SPEAKER_08: And's like, what am I missing?
- 7:29SPEAKER_09: There was a ton of things already happening.
- 7:31SPEAKER_09: So we don't need to add a ton of programming to what's going on.
- 7:33SPEAKER_09: We need to have high impact ones and we need to fill in the gaps.
- 7:35SPEAKER_09: Love it.
- 7:36SPEAKER_09: And so that's what we looked at.
- 7:37SPEAKER_09: And the Jubilee has been planning for over a year now.
- 7:39SPEAKER_09: And they looked at it and they're we looked at their time frame and they were going that 12 to 5 or 6 o'clock that night.
- 7:45SPEAKER_09: And we said, how do we fill in the gap and really kind of capitalize on this opportunity?
- 7:48SPEAKER_08: Capitalize the taste of the carnival started at five or six last year, right?
- 7:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 7:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it started at five o'clock last year.
- 7:54SPEAKER_05: It's the night life.
- 7:55SPEAKER_05: Kismit.
- 7:55SPEAKER_05: That's what I think.
- 7:55SPEAKER_05: Yep, it just happened.
- 7:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 7:57SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 7:57SPEAKER_05: So how how would you suggest people who are going to the Jubilee?
- 8:00SPEAKER_05: Like, would would they need to bring their chairs up?
- 8:03SPEAKER_05: Do they just walk?
- 8:04SPEAKER_09: So walk us through everything that Jubilee will be having will be at the courthouse.
- 8:07SPEAKER_09: We have East Main shut off in between the whole day.
- 8:10SPEAKER_09: So people will be able to walk in between the city.
- 8:12SPEAKER_08: So from the square to the courthouse to the east side of the courthouse, it's all blocked off.
- 8:15SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 8:15SPEAKER_09: That's all blocked off for the whole day.
- 8:16SPEAKER_09: And then the square is still open.
- 8:18SPEAKER_09: We'll start blocking the square at two o'clock that day.
- 8:20SPEAKER_08: Two o'clock the square is blocked off.
- 8:22SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 8:22SPEAKER_08: 100% square is off.
- 8:24SPEAKER_09: We will we will use so no cars.
- 8:26SPEAKER_09: We'll use everything but the northwest corner by subway.
- 8:29SPEAKER_09: That corner will be open to traffic going through.
- 8:31SPEAKER_09: There will be T tour signs.
- 8:33SPEAKER_09: Three quarters of the square will be closed up.
- 8:35SPEAKER_09: Completely closed.
- 8:36SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 8:36SPEAKER_09: For that at starting at 2 o'clock.
- 8:37SPEAKER_09: We'll be setting up barricades.
- 8:39SPEAKER_08: South side four-way stop there.
- 8:40SPEAKER_08: People are going to have to go straight through that way versus turning north onto the square.
- 8:45SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 8:45SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's really no different than the Lions Carnival.
- 8:48SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 8:48SPEAKER_05: I mean, maybe a little bit.
- 8:50SPEAKER_09: So no through traffic.
- 8:51SPEAKER_09: And we will have Paul Carrie within that whole parameter.
- 8:56SPEAKER_09: Caitlin's happy.
- 8:57SPEAKER_09: We are the we are the first group to get to do that.
- 8:59SPEAKER_09: So we're really excited about that.
- 9:02SPEAKER_09: We're the first group that the city has allowed to do this.
- 9:04SPEAKER_08: Because you had it last year.
- 9:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we had it last year within those two blocks.
- 9:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 9:08SPEAKER_08: This is the first time we have cut off.
- 9:10SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah, you couldn't go past the.
- 9:12SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 9:12SPEAKER_05: I never snuck that.
- 9:14SPEAKER_05: Of course not.
- 9:15SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 9:15SPEAKER_05: Never once.
- 9:16SPEAKER_09: The uh but we looked at it and uh with those getting shut off and having that, like the city's been a terrific partner for us.
- 9:22SPEAKER_09: So we went to the city back in April and they have actually provided tourism dollars.
- 9:26SPEAKER_09: They saw the vision of this as a tourism event to promote outside of town.
- 9:29SPEAKER_09: So that the city is a partner for us, a pretty large financial partner for us in this event.
- 9:34SPEAKER_05: And I think that says a lot, you know, that they have a lot of trust.
- 9:37SPEAKER_08: And they delete in the chamber again.
- 9:38SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 9:39SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 9:39SPEAKER_09: So that's why I said it's kind of like our our home run swing because it's the capitalizing on those years of getting people on base, those years of doing the right things to earn the the equity to be able to go and ask for that, right?
- 9:51SPEAKER_09: And look for that partnership.
- 9:52SPEAKER_05: So on East Main, is there gonna be because last year it was tables and and things set up there, but first block is there different?
- 10:00SPEAKER_05: It's different this year.
- 10:02SPEAKER_09: Let's go.
- 10:03SPEAKER_08: Let's run.
- 10:04SPEAKER_08: So Taste of Carlville is the whole square and East Main.
- 10:07SPEAKER_09: So Taste of Carlonville is not the whole square.
- 10:09SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 10:09SPEAKER_09: So Taste of Carlomville Corner, all of our food vendors will be set up on the southwest corner of the square by Heartland.
- 10:15SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 10:15SPEAKER_09: All the way along there, and then down along along South Broad.
- 10:19unknown: Okay.
- 10:20SPEAKER_09: We'll have food vendors that whole corner, and we will have the alcohol uh old-fashioned Route 66 will be selling alcohol.
- 10:25SPEAKER_09: There's a wristband process out front.
- 10:27SPEAKER_09: Uh out in that corner by uh right in front of their right in front of their one.
- 10:31SPEAKER_09: It'll be right in the middle of the food.
- 10:32SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 10:32SPEAKER_09: Um, there will be a process where you need to get a show ID to get a wristband, and then there will be ticket machines out there to purchase it just like the county fair has.
- 10:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:39SPEAKER_09: So you can purchase and then buy alcohol.
- 10:42SPEAKER_09: And they'll give you a special cup.
- 10:43SPEAKER_09: You can't only have alcohol in those in their cups.
- 10:46SPEAKER_09: So there will be the old-fashioned cups.
- 10:47SPEAKER_09: There will be only specially branded cups.
- 10:49SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 10:49SPEAKER_09: So that's part of the.
- 10:53SPEAKER_05: Oh, I mean, I I Hey, fill this up for me.
- 10:55SPEAKER_08: Ding ding.
- 10:56SPEAKER_05: I'm here to buy the tickets for the old fashioned.
- 10:58SPEAKER_05: I mean, here we are.
- 10:59SPEAKER_08: So so the food vendors as well, right?
- 11:02SPEAKER_08: We can run through them.
- 11:03SPEAKER_08: Are they gonna be cashless as well?
- 11:05SPEAKER_08: Use the tickets or are they cash?
- 11:06SPEAKER_09: Uh I would assume cash.
- 11:07SPEAKER_09: We we have had everybody set up for everyone else.
- 11:10SPEAKER_09: Set for cash.
- 11:10SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 11:10SPEAKER_09: And the same same way the alcohol, the cash machines will be cash or the the ticket machines will be cash.
- 11:15SPEAKER_09: And uh there is an ATM in the Heartland parking lot right down that little side street.
- 11:19SPEAKER_09: So helping everybody out.
- 11:21SPEAKER_08: And it's so I'm glad we're bringing this up because I've I was with uh Greenfield, had their triennial homecoming last year, right?
- 11:28SPEAKER_08: And I was in line with someone at Patrillo's food truck that was there, and they didn't have any cash.
- 11:34SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 11:35SPEAKER_08: All they had was card, and Patrillos was only taking cash.
- 11:38SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 11:38SPEAKER_08: And so they're like, they had to cross the square to the ATM at the bank, and da da da da.
- 11:42SPEAKER_08: So it's good to know.
- 11:43SPEAKER_08: So some vendors may take card.
- 11:45SPEAKER_09: That's up to them, but we're telling people to bring cash.
- 11:47SPEAKER_08: Yeah, sounds good.
- 11:48SPEAKER_09: So we're also cash asking, we're also uncertain about getting reception for any of your devices that do scan them with that quantity of people in that area.
- 11:56SPEAKER_08: Well, you should have you should have worked out deal with I know I know of a certain company that will provide they provide it at the fair, free Wi-Fi.
- 12:04SPEAKER_08: They set it up for special events.
- 12:06SPEAKER_08: We're gonna be doing it for our our event here.
- 12:08SPEAKER_08: We're gonna have in the fall.
- 12:09SPEAKER_08: They'll see free Wi-Fi for the event.
- 12:11SPEAKER_08: Companies for everything.
- 12:13SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 12:13SPEAKER_08: So might still be able to pull it off for you.
- 12:15SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 12:15SPEAKER_08: We'll talk.
- 12:16SPEAKER_08: We'll talk.
- 12:18SPEAKER_09: I'll run through our food vendors while we're all the square.
- 12:20SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 12:21SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 12:21SPEAKER_09: So get me hungry.
- 12:22SPEAKER_09: I'll be here.
- 12:22SPEAKER_09: We have uh DQ will be there with ice cream treats.
- 12:25SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 12:25SPEAKER_09: Little Italy's will be there with pizza.
- 12:27SPEAKER_09: Uh 33 Daily Street will be there with pork fritters.
- 12:30SPEAKER_09: Sun Thai will be there with crab rangoon, egg rolls, and dumplings.
- 12:34SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 12:35SPEAKER_09: Wood Ducks gonna be there with pulled chicken and chili mac.
- 12:38SPEAKER_09: Delice.
- 12:39SPEAKER_09: Patrios will have tacos, empanadas, and street corn.
- 12:42SPEAKER_05: 1010.
- 12:43SPEAKER_09: Stars will have all beef hot dogs with all the toppings.
- 12:45SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 12:46SPEAKER_09: Dual Delights and Cabin Cakes will both be there separately with uh a bunch of sweet treats.
- 12:50SPEAKER_09: The historical society will be set up selling pies.
- 12:52SPEAKER_09: The cheerleaders will be there selling cabbie coolers, non-alcoholic drinks.
- 12:56SPEAKER_09: Woo! The Rotary will be doing an ice cream social while the Muni band plays from 6:30 until 7:30.
- 13:00SPEAKER_09: So they'll be selling that in the middle of the square in the grass.
- 13:03SPEAKER_08: Homemade ice cream.
- 13:04SPEAKER_08: I have not had that in decades.
- 13:06SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 13:06SPEAKER_09: And then the Christmas in Carlinville will be selling non-alcoholic drinks like they did last year.
- 13:10SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 13:11SPEAKER_09: And Route 66 Old Fashion will have a there will be a beer truck there set up to sell.
- 13:15SPEAKER_09: So nice.
- 13:16SPEAKER_09: Holy cow.
- 13:17SPEAKER_05: I really need to head to Walmart and get a bigger size of shorts.
- 13:22SPEAKER_05: And I said this already on the post because as soon as on the post, I was like, okay, well, I guess it's done.
- 13:28SPEAKER_05: Like the you know what?
- 13:30SPEAKER_05: I'm trying to go on a trip, you know, in July.
- 13:32SPEAKER_05: So thanks a lot, Taste of Carlo.
- 13:34SPEAKER_08: Yeah, we're here for you.
- 13:35SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 13:36SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 13:37SPEAKER_08: So I heard the Muni band starts at 6 30.
- 13:39SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 13:40SPEAKER_05: No.
- 13:40SPEAKER_05: What time does it start, John?
- 13:42SPEAKER_09: So the Muni band will start at 6 26.
- 13:44SPEAKER_09: Well, I was gonna say you said 6 30.
- 13:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 13:46SPEAKER_09: So they start their official concert at 6 30.
- 13:48SPEAKER_09: 6 26.
- 13:49SPEAKER_09: They will they will bring us into the night.
- 13:50SPEAKER_09: Oh, I'm very sorry.
- 13:51SPEAKER_09: I'm sorry, Chris.
- 13:52SPEAKER_09: The cavi fight song.
- 13:54SPEAKER_09: Stop.
- 13:54SPEAKER_09: And the cheerleaders will be out there.
- 13:56SPEAKER_09: Oh, Caitlin's gonna jump in.
- 13:57SPEAKER_09: Uh I'm gonna cry photo there at 626.
- 14:00SPEAKER_09: Joe photo right at the moment.
- 14:01SPEAKER_07: Love it.
- 14:01SPEAKER_07: Love it.
- 14:02SPEAKER_05: So how'd you think to get the cavies?
- 14:05SPEAKER_05: I mean, that will the horse be there?
- 14:06SPEAKER_09: The whole nope.
- 14:07SPEAKER_09: So the horse won't be there because we were concerned with all the noises in the square and everything.
- 14:11SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, you're right.
- 14:11SPEAKER_09: You're right, you're right, you're right.
- 14:12SPEAKER_09: We were concerned about putting an animal in that position.
- 14:14SPEAKER_09: You're right.
- 14:15SPEAKER_09: It was on the Well, they're at ball games.
- 14:16SPEAKER_09: It was a consideration we asked about, but we But the cheerleaders, yeah.
- 14:20SPEAKER_05: That's all we need.
- 14:20SPEAKER_05: Caitlin's happy.
- 14:21SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 14:21SPEAKER_08: Caitlin's happy about that.
- 14:23SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 14:23SPEAKER_08: So official time start is five o'clock.
- 14:26SPEAKER_08: Five o'clock.
- 14:27SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 14:27SPEAKER_08: And and Bobby will be on here shortly to tell us when the Jubilee ends.
- 14:31SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 14:32SPEAKER_08: Uh six.
- 14:33SPEAKER_09: Or five or around six.
- 14:34SPEAKER_08: There's a little bit of overlap, and we will have that's great.
- 14:36SPEAKER_08: So there's no lag, so people can do the thing there.
- 14:39SPEAKER_05: And I that was even a little bit confusing for me, you know, when it was to end because the Muni band is technically your guys' put on by the chain.
- 14:49SPEAKER_09: It will be as gazebo.
- 14:50SPEAKER_05: I I want yes, the Muni band is part of the Taste of Carlamo.
- 14:54SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 14:54SPEAKER_05: So we rotary is a part of the Taste of Carlamo.
- 14:56SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 14:57SPEAKER_09: Uh so that Rotary will also be having things during the day.
- 14:59SPEAKER_09: Uh over at the way coming over later.
- 15:02SPEAKER_09: Perfect.
- 15:03SPEAKER_09: And so on our stage, uh Hank Greenwalt will kick us off at five o'clock.
- 15:06SPEAKER_09: 11.
- 15:07SPEAKER_09: And he will play until about 6'10 or so.
- 15:09SPEAKER_09: So we do have a stage set up like last year.
- 15:10SPEAKER_09: We'll we'll have a stage in the corner by Hawthorne and by Panda.
- 15:14SPEAKER_09: So there will be a stage there.
- 15:16SPEAKER_09: Hank will play there.
- 15:16SPEAKER_09: The Muni band will play in the gazebo.
- 15:18SPEAKER_09: We'll have all those tables we had last year at Taste of Carnival set up in between.
- 15:22SPEAKER_09: So people can sit, eat, turn, watch one band, turn watch the other band.
- 15:25SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 15:25SPEAKER_09: And then Miles Station will take the the same stage Hank was on.
- 15:28SPEAKER_09: Dance floor.
- 15:28SPEAKER_09: Dance stars.
- 15:29SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 15:30SPEAKER_09: You know.
- 15:31SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's at mat.
- 15:32SPEAKER_09: And we we ask people, because we we do have 24 of those farmhouse tables coming to fill that space.
- 15:36SPEAKER_09: But we do ask people to bring lawn chairs, things like that.
- 15:39SPEAKER_09: Because on Facebook right now, we have over 800 people that have said going or interested for this event.
- 15:44SPEAKER_09: Love it.
- 15:44SPEAKER_09: And that's not counting that's one person.
- 15:46SPEAKER_09: So they might be okaying, they might be saying that for a family, or they might be whatever else.
- 15:50SPEAKER_05: Well, I'm glad you're you said that too, because to go how great the chamber is.
- 15:54SPEAKER_05: You're also bringing people from out of town and to this it's 100th anniversary of the Mother Road.
- 16:00SPEAKER_08: Yeah, 100th anniversary, Route 66, the Mother Road, right?
- 16:03SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 16:03SPEAKER_05: 250.
- 16:04SPEAKER_08: 250 of the United States of America.
- 16:06SPEAKER_08: Let's go.
- 16:07SPEAKER_08: I I can remember the 1976 celebration.
- 16:11SPEAKER_08: That's cool.
- 16:11SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 16:12SPEAKER_08: I can remember coming as a kid to that and my parents dressing up and you know all that.
- 16:16SPEAKER_08: And they had something uh big that was happening there at where uh the elementary school used to be, okay, which is now King Apartments or Castle Apartments.
- 16:24SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 16:25SPEAKER_08: They had something there at the the school.
- 16:27SPEAKER_08: So yeah, so this is awesome that I get to celebrate.
- 16:30SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 16:30SPEAKER_05: It is.
- 16:30SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's just a it's a big event.
- 16:32SPEAKER_08: And it's the second annual Taste of Carloville event.
- 16:35SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 16:36SPEAKER_09: Well, we're yeah, and we we really wanted to make this a celebration of Carlinville.
- 16:39SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 16:39SPEAKER_09: So what what we're pitching this as is come experience Carlinville in a night.
- 16:43SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 16:43SPEAKER_09: We are going to have we have 15 community groups set up doing kids' activities, doing demonstrations, doing giveaways, things like that.
- 16:49SPEAKER_09: We have nine chamber member vendors that'll be set up, handing out freebies, advertising their businesses, promoting that.
- 16:54SPEAKER_09: And we will have the Lions Club Purple Train.
- 16:56SPEAKER_09: Oh, nice running from 5 until 6.30 and then 7.30 until uh 8.30 or 9.
- 17:02SPEAKER_09: So we will have the purple train, it will be loading in front of Clag's barbershop.
- 17:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we're creating a chute there.
- 17:08SPEAKER_09: It'll be pulling in there, loading, going around.
- 17:10SPEAKER_09: Because there'll be no cars exiting off the north.
- 17:12SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 17:12SPEAKER_09: So we're we'll we've created a loading chute for it and they'll load up and hop in the train and go around for the ride.
- 17:17SPEAKER_05: And I mean, how smart can you really be?
- 17:19SPEAKER_09: Well, not me.
- 17:20SPEAKER_09: I I'm I'm just I'm glad that people chamber has been us coming up with crazy ideas and everybody supporting us, which I don't like, I'm hoping continues.
- 17:28SPEAKER_09: It's right.
- 17:29SPEAKER_05: It's a 10x mindset.
- 17:30SPEAKER_09: Because like the Lions Club, that is a very Carlinville thing, right?
- 17:34SPEAKER_09: That that purple is just a here thing, it is a very big deal.
- 17:38SPEAKER_09: And we are so very appreciative of them taking the time to both run it and then also kind of bring that specialness of that train to this event.
- 17:46SPEAKER_05: I feel like what you're trying to do from everything I've just been hearing from you today, and you've really answered a lot of the questions.
- 17:53SPEAKER_05: Thank you.
- 17:54SPEAKER_05: Is I feel like you're trying to tie everybody together in the town and every organization and every committee and all this, and say, hey, Carlinville people.
- 18:04SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 18:05SPEAKER_05: Welcome.
- 18:06SPEAKER_08: So, so John, as a kind of a wrap-up on the on the chamber part of this, as the president, what does this massive action and free event mean for the local businesses of this community?
- 18:18SPEAKER_09: Well, I think it's huge because we're using it as an opportunity to celebrate.
- 18:21SPEAKER_09: Uh, we did not go out and get sponsorships, and that's why we're so glad that the city did this.
- 18:24SPEAKER_09: Our businesses, everybody comes to them for a soccer sign up for a and everything that happens, all the businesses get hit.
- 18:30SPEAKER_09: And we wanted an opportunity to promote them without costing them any money and not have to do the sponsorship.
- 18:35SPEAKER_09: And the city bought into that vision and shares that vision.
- 18:37SPEAKER_08: That's great.
- 18:38SPEAKER_09: Uh so that's been really terrific.
- 18:39SPEAKER_09: And we look at we are we are collecting community, the community giving of all those organizations.
- 18:46SPEAKER_09: Uh we're asking all of our chamber members to submit.
- 18:48SPEAKER_09: What do you donate to the local community?
- 18:50SPEAKER_09: And we've created that running tile tally that we will announce that night.
- 18:53SPEAKER_05: So we have to as a whole, as a whole.
- 18:56SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 18:57SPEAKER_05: Yes, not as an individual.
- 18:58SPEAKER_05: I didn't want anybody to think.
- 18:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah, what are what our chamber members just in giving to the local community do?
- 19:04SPEAKER_05: Hey, I think that that is uh because there's really you may think they pay a certain amount, but it's a whole lot more than what you really, you know.
- 19:12SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 19:13SPEAKER_09: Well, and every dollar they spend is an investment in this community.
- 19:15SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 19:16SPEAKER_09: That's what they're doing.
- 19:16SPEAKER_09: It's not it, you can say advertising, you can say it's an investment in the community.
- 19:20SPEAKER_09: So we look at it and we even have we've gotten this.
- 19:22SPEAKER_09: You guys are the first ones here.
- 19:24SPEAKER_09: Oh, we have an official proclamation from Governor Pritzker.
- 19:28SPEAKER_09: Oh I love it.
- 19:29SPEAKER_09: 6626 Day is Carlinville Day in the state of Illinois.
- 19:33SPEAKER_09: Are you?
- 19:35SPEAKER_09: We're the first to see it.
- 19:36SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 19:36SPEAKER_09: I love it.
- 19:37SPEAKER_08: So oh my god.
- 19:38SPEAKER_05: I'm in disbelief.
- 19:39SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna cry.
- 19:40SPEAKER_08: I got goosebumps.
- 19:40SPEAKER_08: So I live in the space.
- 19:41SPEAKER_08: I really am gonna cry.
- 19:43SPEAKER_09: That's awesome.
- 19:43SPEAKER_05: So I wondered what that was.
- 19:45SPEAKER_05: I thought that was yours.
- 19:46SPEAKER_05: No, no, no.
- 19:47SPEAKER_09: We'll be presenting it that night on the stage with it.
- 19:50SPEAKER_09: That is someone from the state gonna present it.
- 19:52SPEAKER_09: No.
- 19:53SPEAKER_09: So Mayor Doug Downey will announce it that night.
- 19:55SPEAKER_09: And then we'll also be announcing next week we're doing it as Spirit Week.
- 19:58SPEAKER_09: So we're kind of driving up the entrance going into the week.
- 20:00SPEAKER_08: Well, this is gonna be dropping Monday.
- 20:02SPEAKER_09: Okay so that check out our chamber Facebook page or our website.
- 20:05SPEAKER_08: Let's get reasonable's the best place to go.
- 20:07SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 20:07SPEAKER_09: We are Carlinville.com.
- 20:08SPEAKER_09: We are Carlinville Community Chamber of Commerce on Facebook.
- 20:11SPEAKER_05: And I have to say, that website.
- 20:13SPEAKER_09: Oh, that's all Karen.
- 20:14SPEAKER_09: Uh I know.
- 20:15SPEAKER_09: Karen in the last couple years has done a phenomenal job.
- 20:17SPEAKER_09: She's now our executive director.
- 20:18SPEAKER_09: That's Karen Doyle.
- 20:19SPEAKER_09: She came in doing it as our uh as doing our social media and uh has been phenomenal.
- 20:24SPEAKER_09: I mean, we went from less than a thousand followers to we're now over five thousand.
- 20:28SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 20:28SPEAKER_05: And I just the the website is so easy.
- 20:31SPEAKER_05: Like when I went there yesterday, before we came, it's so easy to navigate, so easy to read.
- 20:36SPEAKER_05: You know exactly what to do.
- 20:37SPEAKER_05: So everyone needs to go there for any more questions.
- 20:39SPEAKER_08: So let's let's hit spirit week.
- 20:40SPEAKER_08: Let's just yeah.
- 20:41SPEAKER_09: So spirit week on uh spirit week, we're asking people to do a perform an act of kindness on Monday, kick off the week, and then Tuesday we're gonna highlight hometown heroes.
- 20:49SPEAKER_09: So we will have the opportunity on social media to highlight to nominate a person essentially as a hometown hero.
- 20:55SPEAKER_09: Love it.
- 20:56SPEAKER_09: Uh Wednesday will be Spirit Day, another opportunity, who embodies the Carlinville Spirit, right?
- 21:01SPEAKER_09: An opportunity to nominate, recognize those people.
- 21:04SPEAKER_09: Carlinville gives.
- 21:05SPEAKER_09: So we have some businesses on Thursday that will be doing uh pack the house events for local charities, highlighting why they deal, why they're helping that local charity doing things like that.
- 21:13SPEAKER_08: Then share that money with the charities, yeah.
- 21:14SPEAKER_09: And then Friday is the day, and we will have we will have uh we will announce a winner for Hometown Heroes and Spirit Day.
- 21:21SPEAKER_09: Sweet that night.
- 21:22SPEAKER_09: So uh Mayor Downey will also announce that at the same time that he'll be showing this before before the 626 time.
- 21:28SPEAKER_05: This is just unbelievable.
- 21:29SPEAKER_05: I really just got to give you so many coverage.
- 21:32SPEAKER_08: John, big shout out to you and the board and all the local businesses that come together to make this happen for Carlleville and really for mid Illinois.
- 21:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 21:43SPEAKER_08: Because, like you said, we've got over 800 people, and those aren't just Carlleville people.
- 21:46SPEAKER_08: Yep, those are the customs.
- 21:47SPEAKER_09: And we're consulting we're consulting and helping chambers and other places that are trying to rejuvenate things like that.
- 21:52SPEAKER_09: Yeah, they've seen what we're doing.
- 21:53SPEAKER_05: Collaboration I think was they had asked me about you before.
- 21:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so they and that's awesome.
- 21:58SPEAKER_09: And we're we're an open Book because, like I say, very little of what we do is original.
- 22:02SPEAKER_09: We look around all over the state and and steal it.
- 22:04SPEAKER_09: And back to the United States.
- 22:06SPEAKER_09: I mean, member side.
- 22:07SPEAKER_09: I mean, like our board bought into the vision of it, and we have never held a member drive.
- 22:11SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 22:11SPEAKER_09: We have never gone out and asked people for memberships.
- 22:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 22:14SPEAKER_09: We just continue to grow because people have seen what we're doing and it's a good thing.
- 22:17SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 22:17SPEAKER_05: And that's so much better that way because it's organic.
- 22:20SPEAKER_09: It's organic growth to it, and it's it's really them just buying into it.
- 22:23SPEAKER_09: That's why I said it has very little to do with what I do.
- 22:25SPEAKER_09: It has very a lot to do with the awesome individuals we have on our board, and it has a lot to do with people really just buying into the town.
- 22:32SPEAKER_09: That's what sets Carlinville apart from other communities, is right, they just buy in.
- 22:36SPEAKER_09: Like we sent out a letter with no track record, with no schedule of events.
- 22:41SPEAKER_09: We just said, hey, we're gonna bring this back.
- 22:42SPEAKER_09: We hope that you buy into the chamber.
- 22:44SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 22:44SPEAKER_09: And people proof is in the pudding.
- 22:46SPEAKER_05: Correct.
- 22:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah, proof is in the pudding.
- 22:48SPEAKER_05: And and look, the choice of the code.
- 22:54SPEAKER_08: John, this is great.
- 22:56SPEAKER_08: I appreciate you out of your busy schedule to stop in, to have a chat with us here on the Design and Building podcast.
- 23:02SPEAKER_08: And we're so excited to be a part of this event up there.
- 23:05SPEAKER_08: Heck, maybe we'll do a mobile podcast up there that night.
- 23:07SPEAKER_08: Why not?
- 23:08SPEAKER_08: Right?
- 23:08SPEAKER_08: There you go.
- 23:10SPEAKER_08: Gotcha.
- 23:11SPEAKER_08: That's right.
- 23:12SPEAKER_08: We may be mobile there.
- 23:13SPEAKER_08: So anyway, I know you've got to run.
- 23:14SPEAKER_08: So, hey, John Griffle, thank you very much.
- 23:18SPEAKER_08: And we're gonna move on to Bobby Bates and what they're doing with the Jubilee celebration.
- 23:22SPEAKER_08: So I appreciate it.
- 23:23SPEAKER_05: John, thank you so much.
- 23:24SPEAKER_05: We're so excited.
- 23:25SPEAKER_08: It's been awesome.
- 23:25SPEAKER_08: Thank you.
- 23:26SPEAKER_08: Hey, all right.
- 23:27SPEAKER_08: We now have in the house with us Bobby Bates.
- 23:30SPEAKER_08: She is the chair of the Route 66 Jubilee Committee, is she?
- 23:34SPEAKER_06: Sure, somewhat, yeah.
- 23:36SPEAKER_08: In charge of it, right?
- 23:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 23:37SPEAKER_08: And also, you were named the chamber person of the year.
- 23:42SPEAKER_06: I was.
- 23:42SPEAKER_08: Yes, so we are we are in honor of having royalty in our studio.
- 23:48SPEAKER_08: We love it.
- 23:49SPEAKER_05: That's why I was begging her to come in here, you know?
- 23:51SPEAKER_08: Hey, thank you so much for being here.
- 23:53SPEAKER_08: John just gave us a rundown on the evening, but you're here to talk about the daytime events.
- 23:58SPEAKER_08: Uh first though, we have to brag on you, you know, about you are the chamber person of the year, but let tell us a little bit about who you are in the community and just give a little brief history of who you are.
- 24:10SPEAKER_06: Sure.
- 24:11SPEAKER_06: So I've been here pretty much all my life.
- 24:14SPEAKER_06: Uh grew up and been a civic volunteer all my life.
- 24:18SPEAKER_06: So this kind of comes naturally.
- 24:20SPEAKER_06: Uh excited when I started working with the city of Carlinville Economic Development and many other tasks as well.
- 24:28SPEAKER_06: But this was kind of a a perfect role, I think, to take on something like this.
- 24:34SPEAKER_06: I've done a lot of event planning, uh, but this one takes the cake for sure.
- 24:38SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 24:39SPEAKER_08: Because it's uh once in a lifetime, right?
- 24:42SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 24:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 24:43SPEAKER_08: And so you've been working so hard on the old-fashioned Route 66 Jubilee.
- 24:47SPEAKER_08: That's the the name of it, right?
- 24:49SPEAKER_08: And for people who haven't seen the flyer yet, what is the overall vibe you guys are bringing to the courthouse lawn?
- 24:56SPEAKER_06: So basically, I think it's just old nostalgia that meets Route 66 with the history that Carlinville and its people create and still move forward.
- 25:08SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 25:09SPEAKER_06: But it's gonna be a a good time to slow down and just enjoy your family time, hang out on the lawn and enjoy some really good foot tapping music and all kinds of fun things throughout the afternoon.
- 25:23SPEAKER_08: And that's the lawn of the courthouse, the McCopin County Courthouse, billion-dollar courthouse.
- 25:28SPEAKER_08: Yes, right.
- 25:29SPEAKER_08: Legendary.
- 25:30SPEAKER_08: Across the street from the Cannonball Jail.
- 25:32SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 25:32SPEAKER_08: Right?
- 25:33SPEAKER_08: Yep, the legendary cannonball jail.
- 25:34SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 25:35SPEAKER_08: So people can walk across and see that as well.
- 25:37SPEAKER_08: Because it'll I'm sure it'll be open.
- 25:39SPEAKER_06: Oh, it will.
- 25:40SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 25:40SPEAKER_08: It doesn't say because it's a regular weekday, so I'm sure it'll be open.
- 25:42SPEAKER_08: Yep, it will be open.
- 25:44SPEAKER_08: Awesome.
- 25:44SPEAKER_05: And won't you be having something in there that day, a special lock 'em up?
- 25:48SPEAKER_05: Or yes, there is a lock 'em up activity done.
- 25:51SPEAKER_07: I can lock Caitlin up.
- 25:53SPEAKER_06: You can.
- 25:54SPEAKER_07: It costs money.
- 25:55SPEAKER_06: You can, yeah.
- 25:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 25:57SPEAKER_06: See?
- 25:58SPEAKER_06: Or we might be able to let you pay to keep her in jail a little longer as well.
- 26:02SPEAKER_07: I got a hundo for that one.
- 26:04SPEAKER_06: He truly was.
- 26:06SPEAKER_08: I got a hundo to keep her mouth in jail.
- 26:09SPEAKER_05: He's gonna put I'll be in a straitjacket.
- 26:13SPEAKER_06: We get a sharpie put straight on.
- 26:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 26:16SPEAKER_06: So anybody can get locked up.
- 26:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, we're we're gonna just see who's needing locked up that day.
- 26:22SPEAKER_08: But it it is a fundraiser for uh local public art.
- 26:27SPEAKER_08: Local public art?
- 26:27SPEAKER_08: Awesome.
- 26:28SPEAKER_08: Love it.
- 26:28SPEAKER_06: Okay, love it.
- 26:30SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 26:31SPEAKER_08: So 11 o'clock it starts.
- 26:34SPEAKER_08: Uh the toe-tapping music you talked about, because the music starts when?
- 26:38SPEAKER_06: The music will start about 12 30.
- 26:41SPEAKER_06: But the parade, like escort watch, uh that music will begin at 11.
- 26:45SPEAKER_08: So it's just kind of leading up to the and is this is this going on on the Heinz Jubilee stage or where this will be on the South Side Courthouse steps.
- 26:53SPEAKER_08: Okay, gotcha.
- 26:54SPEAKER_08: That's where that's going to be going on.
- 26:56SPEAKER_06: That's the 11.
- 26:57SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 26:57SPEAKER_06: And and the music that has got to be a big draw for people.
- 27:02SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we have quite a lineup of music uh coming up, and there are headliners known in the Edwardsville area, some up north.
- 27:11SPEAKER_06: Um, they're all fantastic musicians.
- 27:13SPEAKER_06: Well, that Chris Valillo, he's all over the place.
- 27:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 27:16SPEAKER_06: Am I saying it right?
- 27:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah, Valillo.
- 27:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 27:18SPEAKER_06: He's a he's a road scholar, so he does a little bit of storytelling in there.
- 27:22SPEAKER_06: And so you'll really learn some things from him as well as enjoy his music.
- 27:27SPEAKER_06: And he focuses on like Midwest.
- 27:30SPEAKER_05: Yes, correct.
- 27:31SPEAKER_05: So I I thought that was good that you guys brought him.
- 27:33SPEAKER_05: And then that Devin, I'm gonna tell you what.
- 27:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah, Devin is awesome.
- 27:38SPEAKER_06: I can't wait to hear him in person.
- 27:40SPEAKER_05: That's that toe tap, and it and it looks like he has that steel guitar, all that old-fashioned.
- 27:47SPEAKER_05: I believe it is, yes.
- 27:48SPEAKER_05: Okay, yes, okay.
- 27:49SPEAKER_05: I think Chris, Butch, and Devin are all on the the Heinz stage.
- 27:55SPEAKER_05: Perfect.
- 27:55SPEAKER_05: So fun.
- 27:56SPEAKER_08: So, what do we have for kids?
- 27:59SPEAKER_06: We have a lot of things for kids.
- 28:01SPEAKER_06: Um, there are free PBJs and Well, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 28:06SPEAKER_08: Why is that just for the kids?
- 28:07SPEAKER_08: Oh now.
- 28:08SPEAKER_08: I haven't had a good PB and J like forever.
- 28:11SPEAKER_06: And it's from the Carnival Walmart.
- 28:13SPEAKER_06: Well, yeah.
- 28:13SPEAKER_06: No, we we we've got one for you, Chris.
- 28:15SPEAKER_06: It's all good.
- 28:17SPEAKER_08: Person of the year, so generous and giving.
- 28:19SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 28:20SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 28:21SPEAKER_08: Thank you.
- 28:21SPEAKER_08: That's a civic duty side of her.
- 28:23SPEAKER_06: It is.
- 28:23SPEAKER_06: So I think I think the biggest thing is the kids' zip code stage, and it's it's delegated for first time up.
- 28:31SPEAKER_06: So a child from four to twelve can come up and they can read a poem, sing a song, tell a joke, read a line from a favorite book.
- 28:41SPEAKER_06: It's just a joke.
- 28:43SPEAKER_06: Family friendly joke.
- 28:44SPEAKER_08: No, no little Johnny jokes.
- 28:47SPEAKER_05: He would do this, Bobby.
- 28:48SPEAKER_05: Chris will be up there, he'll disguise himself as a little kid and be like today in school, I learned how to tell a joke.
- 28:56SPEAKER_08: No, I won't do that.
- 28:57SPEAKER_05: I think the kids will be obsessed with this.
- 28:59SPEAKER_06: We hope it's a a good first time up, just getting them comfortable to to do something and get them off of those cell phones and have some real fun with their families and go back to some older times.
- 29:11SPEAKER_08: And and I saw that you've got an arts and authors tent.
- 29:13SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 29:14SPEAKER_08: Correct?
- 29:14SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 29:15SPEAKER_08: And what tells us a little about that?
- 29:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 29:17SPEAKER_06: So the arts and authors tent is gonna have some authors that are local that will be talking about their book and answering questions and that Marcacci, right?
- 29:28SPEAKER_06: Yep, yep.
- 29:28SPEAKER_06: Jim Marcacci is one of them.
- 29:30SPEAKER_06: Bineled and the booze gang.
- 29:32SPEAKER_06: I mean, that's blown up lately.
- 29:33SPEAKER_06: He's gonna be there.
- 29:34SPEAKER_08: Will Tom Emery be doing anything?
- 29:36SPEAKER_06: Yes, Tom, Tom is gonna be there and he's gonna do a presentation on the Model A's.
- 29:40SPEAKER_08: Awesome.
- 29:41SPEAKER_06: Um, so you won't want to miss that.
- 29:42SPEAKER_06: I think it is actually scheduled at a certain time.
- 29:45SPEAKER_08: Perfect.
- 29:45SPEAKER_06: So there's there'll be signs up there, you'll know where to go in and maps.
- 29:49SPEAKER_06: So it'll be a I love it.
- 29:51SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I love it.
- 29:52SPEAKER_05: Also for the kids, there's gonna be sack races, kick the can, old fashioned, like croquet.
- 29:58SPEAKER_05: So they get to some Red Rover.
- 30:00SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 30:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 30:02SPEAKER_08: My gosh, we're in.
- 30:03SPEAKER_05: We're in.
- 30:05SPEAKER_05: We're like, yes, Red Rover, Red Rover send Chris, right over.
- 30:09SPEAKER_08: Big dog on over.
- 30:11SPEAKER_08: That's right.
- 30:11SPEAKER_08: Let's go.
- 30:12SPEAKER_08: There you go.
- 30:13SPEAKER_06: I mean, I think the kids are gonna have a blast on the courthouse lawn.
- 30:16SPEAKER_06: I I hope so, and I think they will.
- 30:18SPEAKER_06: So we're ready.
- 30:19SPEAKER_06: We're even ready for a little rain if it happens.
- 30:21SPEAKER_07: Uh we're okay.
- 30:22SPEAKER_06: So prepared, rain or shining.
- 30:24SPEAKER_07: So tell me about this gangster and flapper contest.
- 30:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so the lovely ladies of the Elks Lodge here in Carlinville are putting on uh the flapper gangster contest.
- 30:36SPEAKER_06: Um, and there's some great prizes for that.
- 30:39SPEAKER_08: And the the It says cash prizes, right?
- 30:42SPEAKER_06: Yes, there is.
- 30:42SPEAKER_06: There is some cash prizes.
- 30:44SPEAKER_06: 500.
- 30:45SPEAKER_06: Yep, from Carlinville wedding communities, and some fantastic meat bundles from stars primarily.
- 30:52SPEAKER_06: Well not the pinstripes.
- 30:54SPEAKER_06: I feel like you would pull it off.
- 30:56SPEAKER_05: Seriously.
- 30:57SPEAKER_05: So it's like what is it's best couple, best gangster, and then best flapper.
- 31:02SPEAKER_06: And there's best couple or group.
- 31:04SPEAKER_06: Sorry, sorry.
- 31:05SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the best flapper and the best gangster.
- 31:07SPEAKER_08: Are you gonna go as a flapper girl?
- 31:08SPEAKER_05: Okay, so if I already has his outfit.
- 31:16SPEAKER_07: Flapper, flapper dress.
- 31:18SPEAKER_05: I have the I have and I already been searching how to do my hair.
- 31:21SPEAKER_05: All right.
- 31:22SPEAKER_06: Nice.
- 31:23SPEAKER_08: Oh boy, oh boy.
- 31:24SPEAKER_06: We also will have a couple of uh like pinup girls that are dressing, uh, that they're gonna come in and kind of run the applause meter for the That's adorable.
- 31:35SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:36SPEAKER_06: I love that.
- 31:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I didn't know that.
- 31:38SPEAKER_06: So they'll be walking around and talking to people and just having fun and like people pin-up girls.
- 31:43SPEAKER_08: Yeah, like pinup girls.
- 31:46SPEAKER_06: They're gonna be like that's the professional right, yeah.
- 31:49SPEAKER_06: The well they're they're gonna be the flap flapper girls.
- 31:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah, okay, okay, yeah.
- 31:52SPEAKER_05: All right, all right.
- 31:54SPEAKER_05: I feel like that's a good idea to make it more like lifelike, I guess.
- 31:58SPEAKER_05: I mean, like you're really living back then.
- 32:00SPEAKER_08: So this is focusing on the hundred-year celebration of the mother road, Jubilee, right?
- 32:06SPEAKER_08: And and so we're talking about Taste of Carlville.
- 32:08SPEAKER_08: We also have the 250 year of you know the US.
- 32:12SPEAKER_08: The US, exactly.
- 32:13SPEAKER_08: So it's just like amazing how everything is just all coming together.
- 32:16SPEAKER_08: All coming at once, right?
- 32:18SPEAKER_08: That's so awesome on that.
- 32:19SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 32:19SPEAKER_08: All right, Bobby, I love how you know we've got this going.
- 32:22SPEAKER_08: And but the big handoff, let's untangle the schedule because we've got the Taste of Carnival event, we've got the Jubilee that is you guys are kicking off that day with the Jubilee.
- 32:31SPEAKER_08: So the gangster contest judging happens at six o'clock.
- 32:36SPEAKER_08: Perfect, perfect, which wraps up kind of the Jubilee, but it does.
- 32:39SPEAKER_08: People can kind of hang out if they want.
- 32:41SPEAKER_08: Sure.
- 32:41SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 32:41SPEAKER_08: Into the evening, right?
- 32:42SPEAKER_08: Absolutely.
- 32:43SPEAKER_05: Okay, I love that visit, yeah.
- 32:44SPEAKER_08: Because I know you guys have been promoting this everywhere, right?
- 32:47SPEAKER_08: Not just in Carnival.
- 32:48SPEAKER_08: Just oh no, it's been out regionally for months.
- 32:51SPEAKER_08: And that is all everywhere, yeah.
- 32:53SPEAKER_08: And and so as it wraps up, then people can make their way over to the Muni Band starting at 626 in the center of the square.
- 33:00SPEAKER_08: Uh-huh.
- 33:00SPEAKER_08: Uh the gazebo, right?
- 33:01SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 33:02SPEAKER_08: So, and then what is happening special at noon?
- 33:05SPEAKER_06: At noon, the parade watch will be an entrance of the model's and the American truckers.
- 33:12SPEAKER_06: And all the churches in the community are gonna ring their bells at noon.
- 33:18SPEAKER_06: And at noon, when the wind the whistle blows on the square, all of the parade will go around the square and then they'll go all and take their parking places.
- 33:27SPEAKER_06: And that's really the the true beginning right there.
- 33:30SPEAKER_06: I mean, that gives me chills.
- 33:31SPEAKER_08: I love I love that the churches are doing that too.
- 33:35SPEAKER_08: Yeah, just to hear all the church bells go, because I know there's there's three right around.
- 33:40SPEAKER_05: Right, like right there, yeah.
- 33:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's that's gonna be phenomenal with that.
- 33:44SPEAKER_05: You know, for this once-in-a-lifetime event, I think that's appropriate to do.
- 33:47SPEAKER_05: Carlinville will know that it's time to party.
- 33:49SPEAKER_05: Right, right.
- 33:50SPEAKER_05: Okay, time to wake up, y'all.
- 33:52SPEAKER_08: I think I'm taking off work Friday.
- 33:53SPEAKER_08: Uh-huh.
- 33:54SPEAKER_08: So, because that's that's the big thing that, you know, this is on a Friday, correct, not Saturday.
- 33:59SPEAKER_08: So people have planned ahead to make this happen that day.
- 34:02SPEAKER_08: All the local businesses andor the attendees, you know, kids we know are out of school, uh, but planning trips and stuff around it.
- 34:08SPEAKER_08: And when this podcast airs, it's actually airing on Monday, which is the start of Spirit Week, Chamber Spirit Week.
- 34:14SPEAKER_08: And so, and we're gonna start actually promoting this tomorrow.
- 34:18SPEAKER_08: So, people are gonna see this and and and just build it up.
- 34:21SPEAKER_05: We gotta talk about the food.
- 34:22SPEAKER_05: I mean, I think because it's almost lunchtime that I'm I'm hungry.
- 34:26SPEAKER_06: There will be plenty of food throughout the whole day.
- 34:29SPEAKER_06: Um, there are some special things that you can for purchase and we do have some free food, so we we want to invite everyone, even if you don't have the funds to partake, we got something for you.
- 34:43SPEAKER_06: Oh, including some free snow cones, PBJs, that's why she's portion of the year, right?
- 34:50SPEAKER_08: Sobby, where can people find out more information about the Jubilee?
- 34:53SPEAKER_06: So we have the Route 66 uh Jubilee in June Facebook page.
- 34:58SPEAKER_06: Okay, and the city of Carlinville will put out an actual uh schedule of events uh very soon, probably today, to make sure that everybody knows when it begins.
- 35:09SPEAKER_05: And you guys have done a fantastic job with advertising because not only Facebook, like they have flyers everywhere, like everywhere I look, yeah, they are up.
- 35:18SPEAKER_05: So if you go to any Carnival businesses, you are gonna see a Jubilee flyer.
- 35:22SPEAKER_06: It's everywhere.
- 35:23SPEAKER_05: Great Rivers and Roots does a lot of CBS, yeah, everybody.
- 35:27SPEAKER_05: You guys have done so good being omnipresent.
- 35:30SPEAKER_08: That's right, omnipresent.
- 35:31SPEAKER_08: We throw that out there.
- 35:31SPEAKER_08: It's our 10 next throw out there.
- 35:33SPEAKER_08: Well, Bobby, huge thank you to you and John Griffle for coming in today uh to our studio and breaking all of this down for our listeners and followers because it's just gonna be a historic celebration for Carliville and like we said with John for mid-Illinois.
- 35:49SPEAKER_06: Absolutely.
- 35:50SPEAKER_08: The mother road, it runs through here.
- 35:52SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 35:52SPEAKER_08: And that's what I'm excited about because we know that there have been specific people that were gonna travel Route 66 that starts in Chicago, that will make sure their trip gets them here for that event.
- 36:03SPEAKER_08: For that event, and then they'll continue on their travels on Route 66.
- 36:07SPEAKER_08: So that is just nice and smile on your face, right?
- 36:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:12SPEAKER_08: You know, there's a lot of hard work happening behind the scenes to pull off 62626 day.
- 36:17SPEAKER_08: And hopefully this clears up exactly how the daytime Route 66 Jubilee perfectly hands things off to the chamber events on the square that evening.
- 36:26SPEAKER_08: Whether you're pouring a foundation at big dog construction or volunteers are setting up stages on the courthouse lawn, it all comes back to the same thing: putting in the work to build a town we are proud of to call home.
- 36:38SPEAKER_08: So mark your calendars, get out there and support these events.
- 36:41SPEAKER_08: 62626.
- 36:43SPEAKER_08: That's June 26th on the year 26.
