- 1:21Speaker 2: there is every possible thing going on in the world.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Of sports today.
- 1:29Speaker 4: We just don't enough time.
- 1:31Speaker 2: There's not gonna be any way that we can actually
- 1:35Speaker 2: hit everything that is important. But I am certain that
- 1:43Speaker 2: everybody at this point in time has heard the news
- 1:48Speaker 2: about what I would say the best athlete ever to
- 1:56Speaker 2: come out of the state of West Virginia, Randy Moss.
- 1:59Speaker 2: And I don't I don't necessarily want to go into
- 2:04Speaker 2: a whole host of details because I don't think there's
- 2:07Speaker 2: a lot of details that a lot of people know.
- 2:10Speaker 2: But I think not to mention him, not to have
- 2:13Speaker 2: a discussion about him, his his success, who he is
- 2:19Speaker 2: and who he is to people who don't really know
- 2:25Speaker 2: and the person a person versus the athlete, and or
- 2:31Speaker 2: whether or not the things that you think he did
- 2:33Speaker 2: or didn't do right. You know, I think I think
- 2:36Speaker 2: one of one of the one of the things that
- 2:40Speaker 2: I think I feel like I have to say is
- 2:45Speaker 2: if you don't know Randy and you've tried to do
- 2:48Speaker 2: like we all do, say oh, I don't think I
- 2:50Speaker 2: like him, he doesn't seem sociable, blah blah blah blah.
- 2:52Speaker 2: You know, I think, you know, for those people, I
- 2:56Speaker 2: don't know if you can understand walking into any place
- 3:02Speaker 2: and everybody wanting to talk to you. Everybody wants your
- 3:06Speaker 2: want you to write your name on something that they have.
- 3:11Speaker 2: How you know, I have another buddy, you know, Sterling Sharp,
- 3:14Speaker 2: who who's a great friend of mine, who we do
- 3:17Speaker 2: a lot of different things, have done a lot of
- 3:19Speaker 2: different things together. He hates that reality of that status
- 3:27Speaker 2: and he never signed like he wouldn't sign just just
- 3:31Speaker 2: just being able to. I think it's just wanting to
- 3:33Speaker 2: be just human, you know, and we get I think,
- 3:37Speaker 2: and I'll say this, and I'll let you jump in.
- 3:38Speaker 2: I know you have a lot of different things that
- 3:40Speaker 2: you want to say, and and I want I don't
- 3:42Speaker 2: want to cut that time out and take it from you.
- 3:44Speaker 2: But I think when you when you think about an athlete,
- 3:51Speaker 2: a movie star, uh, an artist that has reached the
- 3:56Speaker 2: epitome of when you start talking about they're the best,
- 4:00Speaker 2: sure goat the goat And I think when you start, yes,
- 4:04Speaker 2: I think when you start to talk about that that
- 4:08Speaker 2: type of person, you have to you have to understand
- 4:10Speaker 2: what the attention that they get and and imagine that
- 4:14Speaker 2: for yourself. Nobody wants that much attention. You know what
- 4:16Speaker 2: I'm saying, You want to be to go somewhere and
- 4:18Speaker 2: sit down and watch a game, have dinner, have lunch,
- 4:22Speaker 2: and not have to worry about signing your name and
- 4:25Speaker 2: oh and will you put this one there? You know?
- 4:27Speaker 2: And I get it, and I do it just because
- 4:33Speaker 2: I don't get you know, I don't feel like I'm
- 4:35Speaker 2: I've done enough not to sure, but I do see
- 4:40Speaker 2: the reason why those guys at that level will do it.
- 4:44Speaker 2: So my heart goes out to the family. And at
- 4:48Speaker 2: least I'll let you take it in and kind of
- 4:50Speaker 2: give it, kind of give everybody a reminder, not not
- 4:53Speaker 2: maybe not that you need it, but just the reality
- 4:55Speaker 2: of who this guy has been and just how great
- 4:59Speaker 2: he he is.
- 4:59Speaker 4: As an yes and being a graduate of DuPont, you know,
- 5:03Speaker 4: I knew a lot about him. I remember when he
- 5:06Speaker 4: played in that state championship. Actually thirty years ago this weekend,
- 5:10Speaker 4: they were in that state championship and won. The excitement
- 5:14Speaker 4: surrounding him, the love. I mean, I can remember growing
- 5:18Speaker 4: up in bell West, Virginia, and I was the rec
- 5:20Speaker 4: center director and it was hilarious. We had pick up
- 5:23Speaker 4: basketball every Wednesday. Of course, Randy's a bit younger than me.
- 5:26Speaker 4: He was probably in maybe junior high at that time.
- 5:29Speaker 4: But I remember the guys would all roll in and
- 5:31Speaker 4: they would argue over who would pick up Randy to
- 5:35Speaker 4: be on their team. And it was hilarious because they go,
- 5:37Speaker 4: come on, Odie, come on, you know, it's our turn
- 5:40Speaker 4: to have Randy on our team. And so I had
- 5:42Speaker 4: to be this little girl trying to sort out the
- 5:44Speaker 4: you know, the basketball players, figuring out who gets Randy
- 5:47Speaker 4: this week and whatnot. But just knowing him from growing up.
- 5:52Speaker 4: He actually, you know, went to high school with my sister,
- 5:55Speaker 4: so you know, I knew him. I remember whenever they
- 5:58Speaker 4: won the national champion ship at Marshall. My friend and
- 6:02Speaker 4: I'm telling personal stories because you know, they're they're just good.
- 6:05Speaker 4: But anyway, my friend and I went on the field
- 6:08Speaker 4: after they won the national the double a national championship
- 6:12Speaker 4: that year, his first year actually at Marshall, and we
- 6:15Speaker 4: went on the field and there was this Brandy was
- 6:17Speaker 4: in the middle of the field, and there was this
- 6:18Speaker 4: huge crowd, you know, you know, a Moss Randy Marshall whatever,
- 6:21Speaker 4: and so my girlfriend and I kind of get on
- 6:23Speaker 4: the edge and I go Randy, Randy, and I was
- 6:26Speaker 4: yelling his name. He kind of looked over the crowd
- 6:28Speaker 4: and he goes oodie like that, you know. But it
- 6:30Speaker 4: was just amazing just having that personal connection with But
- 6:34Speaker 4: I think that's what people maybe with his past when
- 6:37Speaker 4: he was in high school and he did have some issues,
- 6:39Speaker 4: he had some troubles you know, during his high school
- 6:43Speaker 4: days that some people I think maybe didn't get the
- 6:47Speaker 4: whole story or maybe just part of it and really
- 6:49Speaker 4: didn't understand what he went through and what was going
- 6:52Speaker 4: on in his life at that time. Maybe those are
- 6:54Speaker 4: the people that really don't know or understand what Randy's about.
- 6:57Speaker 4: But Randy is a giving person. You know, anybody in
- 7:02Speaker 4: rand University that needs anything, I think he reaches out
- 7:05Speaker 4: and helps. I've heard of him, stories of him buying
- 7:07Speaker 4: houses for people.
- 7:08Speaker 2: I've heard I've had things.
- 7:12Speaker 4: You know that that people don't know. And it's always
- 7:16Speaker 4: behind the curtains. It's in the shadows because he doesn't
- 7:18Speaker 4: want people to know. He doesn't want his name out
- 7:20Speaker 4: there behind these gifts of giving that he does for
- 7:24Speaker 4: for you know, various people. But but just just to
- 7:29Speaker 4: go back and look at his legacy as an athlete,
- 7:32Speaker 4: I mean it's phenomenal. You look at where you know,
- 7:34Speaker 4: he graduated from DuPont High with a with a state
- 7:37Speaker 4: high school championship in football. Then he moved on to
- 7:40Speaker 4: Florida State or I'm sorry, Notre Dame. Had some issues there.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Ended up at Florida State, had some issues there. He
- 7:47Speaker 4: was still growing up immature, you know that, that's that's
- 7:51Speaker 4: what happens sometimes. And he ended up at Marshall and
- 7:53Speaker 4: his first year there, his first season at Marshall, they
- 7:56Speaker 4: won that Division one double a national championship, which was,
- 7:59Speaker 4: you know, to me amazing. But just just a quick
- 8:02Speaker 4: synopsis of what he did at Marshall over the years,
- 8:05Speaker 4: over the two years he was there, actually he was
- 8:06Speaker 4: only there two uh he actually had one thousand, seven
- 8:09Speaker 4: hundred and nine total yards, seventy eight passes for twenty
- 8:13Speaker 4: eight touchdowns.
- 8:15Speaker 2: That's too about that.
- 8:16Speaker 4: That's two years, two seasons. Think about what would have
- 8:21Speaker 4: happened four years and he ran for the Heisman Trophy
- 8:24Speaker 4: coming from Marshall as a candidate exactly. So when you
- 8:28Speaker 4: look at his legacy combined with just the human being
- 8:32Speaker 4: he is, you just have to you just have to
- 8:35Speaker 4: be so proud of him, and West Virginia should be
- 8:37Speaker 4: so proud of him, and we wish him all the
- 8:39Speaker 4: best in you know, getting healthy.
- 8:42Speaker 2: I would I'm going to add I'm going to add
- 8:44Speaker 2: to that. I know when we when I first did
- 8:49Speaker 2: my one on one event with Randy Mowson Carl Lee,
- 8:53Speaker 2: and I remember him saying, yeah, he would, he would
- 8:55Speaker 2: do it. And it was interesting to me to have
- 9:00Speaker 2: an opportunity to sit down and to kind of hear
- 9:03Speaker 2: him talk about stuff because I had not you know,
- 9:07Speaker 2: I knew him, but never had never had a chance
- 9:10Speaker 2: to kind of get an insight of who he was.
- 9:14Speaker 2: And and I felt when when when that was over,
- 9:20Speaker 2: it was interesting to me. Of it was like unveiling
- 9:24Speaker 2: something and then the moment that you kind of get
- 9:27Speaker 2: out of it, you you you cover it back up,
- 9:30Speaker 2: and and I thought that was an that was an
- 9:34Speaker 2: interesting thing to me. And and I look at it
- 9:40Speaker 2: and I and all I can think about is I
- 9:43Speaker 2: try to I try to relate to or try to
- 9:46Speaker 2: imagine the attention of that he gets every where where
- 9:54Speaker 2: he can go, you know, and and I can and
- 9:58Speaker 2: and again I have to I keep just going back
- 10:02Speaker 2: to this because everybody feels like he's supposed to sign
- 10:05Speaker 2: something for them, or he's supposed to stop and have
- 10:08Speaker 2: a conversation with them. That's not really true, you know,
- 10:16Speaker 2: because he's like everybody else. He's on his time, he's
- 10:21Speaker 2: doing something, he's going to do something, want to do something.
- 10:24Speaker 2: And I think we think because he's he's such a
- 10:27Speaker 2: great athlete and God should be great. If I had
- 10:29Speaker 2: his autograph, that that means if I see him on
- 10:32Speaker 2: to be able to get it. No, it's that's not
- 10:34Speaker 2: really true, you know. And and if you knew, and
- 10:40Speaker 2: you and you touched on this, if you knew the
- 10:42Speaker 2: things that he he he does he will do in
- 10:47Speaker 2: the in the background like he never wants.
- 10:51Speaker 4: He never doesn't want the spotlight about about that sort
- 10:54Speaker 4: of thing.
- 10:55Speaker 2: About that kind of thing. And again, if that were,
- 10:58Speaker 2: if that were to happen, everybody would be hitting him
- 11:02Speaker 2: up for something.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Sure, you know, that's reality and reality.
- 11:06Speaker 2: And as as as a as a fan base, as
- 11:10Speaker 2: somebody that's hearing that, you're like, No, that's not really
- 11:12Speaker 2: that may not be true. Yes, that is sure, you know.
- 11:16Speaker 2: And I've seen him in Minnesota. I see how people
- 11:21Speaker 2: go crazy over him, you know, and it's just it
- 11:26Speaker 2: just comes with that, that kind of.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Successoriety and notoriety part of it. But if I was
- 11:33Speaker 4: handled it well.
- 11:34Speaker 2: I think he has too.
- 11:35Speaker 4: And especially since he became a co host on the
- 11:38Speaker 4: NFL Show on ESPN, I really feel like he kind
- 11:40Speaker 4: of opened up to the fact that I'm a but
- 11:44Speaker 4: he's a celebrity.
- 11:45Speaker 2: In addition to and he and he shows he shows
- 11:49Speaker 2: a sense of humor, yes, seriousness, knowledge, he shows.
- 11:53Speaker 4: All and broadcasting. I mean, it's amazing and.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Nobody would have thought. Nobody would have thought that, now,
- 11:59Speaker 2: you know. And I think I think the special thing
- 12:02Speaker 2: about that is is again, I don't think there was
- 12:05Speaker 2: anybody who thought that he could be all of those
- 12:08Speaker 2: kinds of things. You know, Yes, I think that I
- 12:12Speaker 2: think that is. I think that is super super special.
- 12:18Speaker 2: And so I will just say this. I just pray
- 12:22Speaker 2: that everything works out. I don't even again, I think
- 12:28Speaker 2: there someone has put out what they think they know,
- 12:34Speaker 2: but not the family. But the family has not reached
- 12:37Speaker 2: out and said anything. And so I think we probably
- 12:41Speaker 2: should be patient and and wait on what the family
- 12:48Speaker 2: wants and what the family needs.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Respect the privacy.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Respect that privacy before we go off and and and
- 12:59Speaker 2: go to social media. You and try to and try
- 13:02Speaker 2: to be the first to make the story. This is
- 13:05Speaker 2: not a story that anybody's interested in being the first up.
- 13:08Speaker 2: This is more interesting. It's more interesting about his health period, right,
- 13:14Speaker 2: and we can wait on an update we don't need now,
- 13:19Speaker 2: we don't need speculations. We just don't.
- 13:22Speaker 4: But that's part of the perils of social media. We
- 13:25Speaker 4: know what it's about, and you know, people want to
- 13:27Speaker 4: be that superstar, the one that broke the news first.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Perfect examples of what's going on in Morgantown right now.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Everybody wants to be the one to break the news
- 13:35Speaker 4: of who the head coach is, right, you know, and
- 13:37Speaker 4: and that's here, that's neither here nor there. But what
- 13:40Speaker 4: I'm saying is you're right, we all need to respect privacy.
- 13:44Speaker 4: We need to just all wish him well and hope
- 13:47Speaker 4: that he gets healthy quickly and returns back to life.
- 13:52Speaker 2: All right, well, all right, so let's let's we'll move on. Okay,
- 13:59Speaker 2: let's let's so should we should we? Should we touch Marshall?
- 14:04Speaker 2: Do you want to touch Marshall? Do you want to
- 14:05Speaker 2: touch wu? Where you want to go first? Because everything
- 14:10Speaker 2: is a little bit interesting.
- 14:11Speaker 4: Let's go to Morgantown because there's been a few little
- 14:14Speaker 4: updates here and there. So yeah, so.
- 14:20Speaker 2: What give us the updates. What do you got, I
- 14:23Speaker 2: know you, I know you've got some notes.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Oh I do, I do?
- 14:26Speaker 2: Well?
- 14:26Speaker 4: Well, of course, you know, the rumors are that rich
- 14:29Speaker 4: Rod is returning to to Morgantown, and various outlets, media outlets,
- 14:36Speaker 4: friends of friends have all reported this same same fact.
- 14:41Speaker 4: And then I think this has kind of been pushed
- 14:43Speaker 4: to the wayside. This was earlier in the day, but
- 14:45Speaker 4: somebody kind of threw a monkey wrench into the whole,
- 14:48Speaker 4: the whole mess that, if you want to call it that,
- 14:51Speaker 4: and said that the o C from Ohio State, actually
- 14:54Speaker 4: Brian Hartline, had interviewed for that position. And so the
- 14:58Speaker 4: question at the time today was when did that interview occur?
- 15:03Speaker 4: You know, we didn't I didn't hear that. Okay, this
- 15:05Speaker 4: this was just today's latest update from you know what's
- 15:09Speaker 4: going on with their search. And so the question was, though,
- 15:13Speaker 4: is this something that happened before the rumors of rich
- 15:17Speaker 4: Rud coming back or is it something that occurred recently,
- 15:20Speaker 4: and is it a possibility that he would be, you know,
- 15:23Speaker 4: coming to Morgantown to be the head coach. Now the
- 15:28Speaker 4: it's kind of swung back and they're saying no, this
- 15:30Speaker 4: was something that happened previously during all the interviews that
- 15:34Speaker 4: they that they conducted with different candidates. So that was
- 15:38Speaker 4: just something I guess that kind of threw, you know,
- 15:40Speaker 4: fuel on the fire because from what I'm seeing on
- 15:43Speaker 4: social media, it's so divided Carl. It's so divided on
- 15:48Speaker 4: either people are like, bring him back, We're ready, we
- 15:50Speaker 4: want him back, we want to win. And other people
- 15:52Speaker 4: were like, I'm done if he comes back, I'm done.
- 15:55Speaker 4: He's a trader, all all the things that go with
- 15:57Speaker 4: his name. So to me, it's so controversial no matter
- 16:03Speaker 4: who they announced.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Se that's the question. That's the question that that I
- 16:08Speaker 2: was going to pose to you.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Yes, is.
- 16:14Speaker 2: At this point the coaching aspect is not in question.
- 16:19Speaker 4: No, it's him and his history exactly. And I mean
- 16:26Speaker 4: he won at Jacksonville State, right, the championship of what
- 16:31Speaker 4: is the league? Yeah, but but he won, he won
- 16:34Speaker 4: their league.
- 16:34Speaker 2: He's done.
- 16:35Speaker 4: He his coach won their right. In fact, he was
- 16:39Speaker 4: coach of the year in the conference.
- 16:40Speaker 2: And but West Virginia West Virginians. As I was looking
- 16:48Speaker 2: through Facebook today, like there's there's not a lot there
- 16:54Speaker 2: doesn't It doesn't seem to me that there's a lot
- 17:00Speaker 2: of folks welcoming him quote home.
- 17:04Speaker 4: I think it's fifty to fifty. I mean, but I
- 17:07Speaker 4: see as many posts that say, hey, bring him back
- 17:09Speaker 4: as I have.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Fifty fifty good because what because that because that fifty
- 17:13Speaker 2: that's said? No, where are they they love wv U?
- 17:17Speaker 2: Where are they going to go? What are they going
- 17:19Speaker 2: to say?
- 17:19Speaker 4: What is I've even had a I've even read a
- 17:21Speaker 4: few people say that they would start cheering for Marshall.
- 17:24Speaker 2: We'll we'll take it, we need it. Right. But that's
- 17:28Speaker 2: what I think, that's what I think happens. I think
- 17:32Speaker 2: I think that those based Yes, I think there are
- 17:35Speaker 2: people and again we know this to be true about
- 17:39Speaker 2: sports period, football even more so. Folks don't forget. They
- 17:44Speaker 2: do not forget.
- 17:45Speaker 4: When you start winning, they forget. Now if they lose,
- 17:49Speaker 4: all this this rhetoric's going to come back up. It's
- 17:52Speaker 4: all going to come back up about.
- 17:53Speaker 2: What he came in, if he if he came in,
- 17:55Speaker 2: but if he starts winning, winning, forget, they may forgive
- 17:58Speaker 2: him and like, okay, we'll go.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Fickle, remember our word describe.
- 18:03Speaker 2: But what if what if you don't start I mean right?
- 18:09Speaker 2: And what's what makes us think that WU is gonna
- 18:12Speaker 2: just instantly, he's gonna come in, turn the program around.
- 18:15Speaker 2: They're gonna win four games in a row.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Transfer portal?
- 18:19Speaker 2: What what's good?
- 18:21Speaker 4: What's going to make their advantage? I don't know. In
- 18:23Speaker 4: this case, it hasn't.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Let's just say this, it hasn't worked thus far. Like
- 18:30Speaker 2: they haven't been you know, I don't think that they've
- 18:33Speaker 2: had major success at the portal thus far. So what
- 18:37Speaker 2: makes him and.
- 18:39Speaker 4: We need Hollis here to give his steel about the
- 18:41Speaker 4: Big twelve and taxes and all that, which is absolute truth.
- 18:45Speaker 4: I mean I buy into that what he says all
- 18:47Speaker 4: the time about that, you know, to recruit in the
- 18:50Speaker 4: Big twelve in West Virginia, it's it's it's hard. Yes,
- 18:53Speaker 4: it's hard, that's an easy way to put it. But
- 18:56Speaker 4: what's the delay, Carl? I mean, why is it taking? So?
- 18:58Speaker 4: I mean, let's say, here's my speculation. This is what
- 19:02Speaker 4: I think, and this is what I've heard. I've heard
- 19:04Speaker 4: that he's going to be announced Friday as head coach.
- 19:07Speaker 4: A little bird told me that. Okay, but everybody's got
- 19:09Speaker 4: little birds right now talking in their ear. But I
- 19:12Speaker 4: really think it's total speculation just from what I'm reading
- 19:15Speaker 4: here and there on different media outlets. I feel like
- 19:19Speaker 4: the problem is between ren Baker and the donors. Okay,
- 19:24Speaker 4: the big donors at WU, the big donors, the big money.
- 19:28Speaker 4: They want rich Rod back, and I don't feel like
- 19:31Speaker 4: Rehn Baker. I don't want to say he's against it,
- 19:35Speaker 4: but I think he might feel like there's a better
- 19:37Speaker 4: choice for West Virginia, in a better direction to go
- 19:39Speaker 4: other than bringing back rich Rod. I think they're out.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Of have you have you? When's the last time? And
- 19:47Speaker 2: I don't know if you you can answer this, but
- 19:50Speaker 2: I'm just putting it out there because I can't remember.
- 19:54Speaker 2: When's the last time a coach went back to a
- 19:57Speaker 2: school or team that they coached before? When does that
- 20:01Speaker 2: ever happen?
- 20:04Speaker 4: I mean I'd have to research, Yeah, I'd have to
- 20:07Speaker 4: google it. I don't I don't really know.
- 20:09Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. I mean, I don't.
- 20:11Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 20:12Speaker 2: I don't know what, man.
- 20:13Speaker 4: I'm sure there's probably been an instance out there somewhere,
- 20:15Speaker 4: but I don't know if it was successful.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Well, I was going to say, yeah, and let's say
- 20:18Speaker 2: if you left it, have it if you left? But
- 20:21Speaker 2: Grant left and came back to Minnesota, but it wasn't
- 20:24Speaker 2: because he was failing. He just right was retiring. Sure,
- 20:30Speaker 2: and then it got bad and then he came back
- 20:32Speaker 2: and then turned it over the following year. Sure, but
- 20:37Speaker 2: with with what the fan base thinks of Rich Rod,
- 20:42Speaker 2: let's just say the fifty percent of those particular people,
- 20:48Speaker 2: I'm kind of in, I'm kind of leaning in their
- 20:51Speaker 2: in their wheelhouse, thinking why do we want him to
- 20:54Speaker 2: come back? Why don't we go and find something because
- 20:58Speaker 2: we don't want to go back because we already know.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Now again, I'm not saying he won't win. I'm not
- 21:03Speaker 2: saying that he won't do a great job. I'm just
- 21:05Speaker 2: saying he.
- 21:07Speaker 4: Was on the cusps of a national championship. But but
- 21:10Speaker 4: the lost to pit. Other other than that lost to
- 21:12Speaker 4: pit that last game, they would have been in the
- 21:14Speaker 4: National championship game that year.
- 21:16Speaker 2: And of course, you know, I'm not a huge follower
- 21:19Speaker 2: of WU, right right, But I'll make the case that
- 21:24Speaker 2: today I felt like there was a ton a ton
- 21:30Speaker 2: of people who did not talk about any of the
- 21:35Speaker 2: success that he's had at WU. Everybody or not everybody,
- 21:41Speaker 2: but that fifty.
- 21:43Speaker 4: It's the conspiracy theorist that feel like he threw that
- 21:46Speaker 4: game because he was going to Michigan, and he knew
- 21:49Speaker 4: he was going to Michigan. Those are the ones that
- 21:52Speaker 4: truly do not want him back. They feel like they
- 21:56Speaker 4: call him a trader, They openly call him a trader
- 21:58Speaker 4: because of that that loss. They feel like he threw
- 22:01Speaker 4: the game, which I mean that game was not the
- 22:08Speaker 4: sum of play calling.
- 22:11Speaker 2: It was.
- 22:11Speaker 4: It was. It was many factors. It was a myriad
- 22:13Speaker 4: of factors. It was the fact that Pitt was fired up.
- 22:16Speaker 4: They they knew, they knew being a rival game, right,
- 22:19Speaker 4: they knew all they had to do that was their
- 22:21Speaker 4: super Bowl. That was their championship game, to knock w
- 22:24Speaker 4: out of a champion, you know, out of the finals,
- 22:27Speaker 4: and so you know you had that on that one side,
- 22:30Speaker 4: you also had they were probably the players were uptight, nervous.
- 22:33Speaker 4: They knew all they had to do was beat Pitt
- 22:35Speaker 4: get to the You know, it wasn't just play calling.
- 22:38Speaker 4: And I don't feel like I can't remember. I was
- 22:40Speaker 4: at that game, and it was it was. It was
- 22:42Speaker 4: horrible to endure. It was bad. It was tearful, It
- 22:45Speaker 4: was bad. People had reservations ready to go to New
- 22:49Speaker 4: Orleans for that championship game, they'd already they just had
- 22:52Speaker 4: it in their minds. You know, that game was won,
- 22:55Speaker 4: Pitt was beat. We hadn't even played yet and then
- 22:59Speaker 4: that happened. And so anyway, but how do you feel
- 23:05Speaker 4: like you threw the game? But how do you get
- 23:07Speaker 4: how do you get people to think different?
- 23:09Speaker 2: Yeah? How are you going to get him to that?
- 23:11Speaker 2: I mean he's not going to be to come in
- 23:13Speaker 2: because he's not going to come in and bring any
- 23:15Speaker 2: of that conversation up. But until he truly wins, sure,
- 23:23Speaker 2: it's going to be like it's going to be like
- 23:24Speaker 2: that and why would you like? Why would you want that?
- 23:30Speaker 2: Is it? Does he have this magical love for WVU
- 23:33Speaker 2: that he just has also has.
- 23:34Speaker 4: A lot of former players that are on his side too,
- 23:36Speaker 4: Pat McAfee, you know, he's kind of been pushing for
- 23:39Speaker 4: his rehire, I believe in a roundabout way on his show.
- 23:43Speaker 4: Pac Man Jones has put out some some different videos
- 23:47Speaker 4: that I've seen that you know, he's saying that he's
- 23:49Speaker 4: back and w is going to be, you know, the
- 23:52Speaker 4: powerhouse they once were and getting the gang together. So
- 23:56Speaker 4: I don't know, maybe if he comes in and he
- 23:58Speaker 4: hires some of those former players to be on his staff.
- 24:01Speaker 2: That might kind of lesson and I don't, And I'll
- 24:04Speaker 2: make this case like, I can't say that he can't
- 24:06Speaker 2: come in.
- 24:07Speaker 4: And like Pat White, well, Pat White's in the NFL.
- 24:09Speaker 4: I don't. I couldn't foresee him coming back the onest level.
- 24:13Speaker 2: The only reason I could imagine something like that would
- 24:15Speaker 2: be is that he could come back as like a
- 24:18Speaker 2: coordinator or something like that, which now that can give
- 24:21Speaker 2: him a boost going back into the league, but he can't.
- 24:25Speaker 4: I don't see him being the fans a little happier
- 24:29Speaker 4: having those former guys on the coaching staff. I don't.
- 24:33Speaker 4: I don't know how it's going to go.
- 24:35Speaker 2: I think I think it would. I think I think
- 24:36Speaker 2: it's a smart move. To your point, A smart move
- 24:39Speaker 2: would be is to get a couple former players, well
- 24:42Speaker 2: known players, on that staff. And I think that in
- 24:46Speaker 2: its own right, brings the fan base just to watch
- 24:50Speaker 2: former players coaching coaching younger players. I think that would
- 24:55Speaker 2: be something that they that could happen. I just think, though,
- 24:59Speaker 2: I think this is going to be one of those
- 25:00Speaker 2: decisions that I think the school's gosh. I think it's
- 25:05Speaker 2: gonna be really, really a tough one to make.
- 25:10Speaker 4: I mean, if I'm not, I think it's already mad.
- 25:12Speaker 2: If I'm the president and the athletic director and we're
- 25:14Speaker 2: sitting in a room talking and trying to weigh this out,
- 25:17Speaker 2: should we or should we not? I honestly, I don't
- 25:22Speaker 2: know where you like, I have reasons to say on
- 25:27Speaker 2: both right, And let's.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Look on the other side of the coin. You think
- 25:30Speaker 4: about the treatment and the things that happened with rich
- 25:35Speaker 4: when he was there. I mean, here's the other side
- 25:37Speaker 4: of it. Maybe the fans don't want him back, but
- 25:39Speaker 4: why would he want to come back? I mean, I
- 25:41Speaker 4: don't know.
- 25:43Speaker 2: And see, Tom, that's that's a that's a valid point.
- 25:47Speaker 2: I mean, you know, if you don't want me, yeah,
- 25:50Speaker 2: then you know, hey, okay, that's fine. I'll try to
- 25:53Speaker 2: go somewhere else. So I'll do nothing right. Sure, maybe,
- 25:58Speaker 2: but he's but he all now. I think this may
- 26:03Speaker 2: validate some of the some of the points of some
- 26:05Speaker 2: things have are happening in the background. The fact that
- 26:09Speaker 2: he's actually out there and still having this dialogue about
- 26:13Speaker 2: being the coach and wanting to be the coach is
- 26:16Speaker 2: is because maybe he is the coach and he's testing
- 26:20Speaker 2: the waters to see what it what it what it
- 26:23Speaker 2: feels like, or what it's going to look like. You know,
- 26:26Speaker 2: where's his fan base going to come from? How how
- 26:28Speaker 2: do people feel? Do they feel good? Do they feel bad?
- 26:31Speaker 2: How do they how do they feel? If you had
- 26:33Speaker 2: to make the case, or you may have already made
- 26:37Speaker 2: the case. Fifty to fifty is where you think.
- 26:39Speaker 4: I think this is, I mean, honestly, and also the
- 26:42Speaker 4: other side of it is if you've got the ad
- 26:44Speaker 4: already not really on fire about having you there, don't
- 26:49Speaker 4: you think in future situations that's going to cause some
- 26:51Speaker 4: some friction too? Would I mean, I would think right
- 26:54Speaker 4: out of the gate, I would think so. I mean
- 26:56Speaker 4: you would know as as your head rich Rod would
- 26:58Speaker 4: come in knowing that, you know, Rin Baker was like, Hey,
- 27:01Speaker 4: we thought we could get somebody a little a little
- 27:03Speaker 4: better than you. I don't know. I think there's just
- 27:06Speaker 4: so many fast a second play into this, and I'm
- 27:09Speaker 4: interested to see if this really happens. But from what
- 27:13Speaker 4: I've been told, and I was just told this right
- 27:15Speaker 4: before the show Friday, sometime Friday, they are announcing him
- 27:20Speaker 4: as the head coach. Now, I might be wrong, and
- 27:22Speaker 4: I might be eating crow later.
- 27:24Speaker 2: You've been your scoops. I've been right on point so far,
- 27:30Speaker 2: so I'm not gonna question that. I'll be I've been
- 27:33Speaker 2: waiting on it. We'll see, all right, Ladies, din them.
- 27:35Speaker 2: We're gonna take a quick break and we'll be right back.

- 29:12Speaker 2: up north and and dealt with up North.
- 29:18Speaker 4: Time to bring it back and it's time to got to.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Bring it down back home a little bit to Marshall.
- 29:25Speaker 2: What what in.
- 29:28Speaker 4: The world is Oh my goodness is.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Happening at Marshall University? You know, isn't it?
- 29:36Speaker 4: Isn't it just so just a wave of emotions. Like Saturday,
- 29:41Speaker 4: We're on top of the world. We have won the
- 29:44Speaker 4: Sun Belt Conference Championship. We're gonna go to this big
- 29:47Speaker 4: We're gonna get this great bulbid, you know, probably one
- 29:51Speaker 4: of the best ones we've had in years, to be honest,
- 29:54Speaker 4: you know what a game. It was exciting. They played
- 29:58Speaker 4: so well on both sides of the ball. They dominated.
- 30:01Speaker 4: They don't to a team that I really felt like
- 30:04Speaker 4: they would, they would really take them to the woodship.
- 30:06Speaker 4: I really felt that way, Carl. But the game was awesome. Everything,
- 30:11Speaker 4: everybody's happy, woo. And then the next day, literally within hours,
- 30:16Speaker 4: they announced that half is leaving for Southern miss which
- 30:18Speaker 4: we've all all had our you know, our own kind
- 30:21Speaker 4: of ideas about that, and so he leaves. And then
- 30:26Speaker 4: here comes the transfer portal, our favorite thing that we
- 30:30Speaker 4: talk about all the time in college athletics. And half
- 30:33Speaker 4: the team has already entered it.
- 30:36Speaker 2: So let me let me let me jump in right there. Okay,
- 30:38Speaker 2: And okay, So to those folks who think that the portal,
- 30:44Speaker 2: the transfer portal is, it's fair. It's fair for the players. Okay.
- 30:55Speaker 2: So I was gonna.
- 30:57Speaker 4: Say, is it though?
- 30:58Speaker 2: And Holla said something the other day about you know,
- 31:04Speaker 2: this started with coaches getting contract to play to go
- 31:10Speaker 2: coach somewhere else, even before the Bowl game, sure, even
- 31:14Speaker 2: before their bowl games. I'm not talking I'm not talking
- 31:16Speaker 2: specifically about any school. I'm just saying that the fact
- 31:19Speaker 2: that a school could come and recruit me and I
- 31:22Speaker 2: accept the job prior to the bowl game, so I
- 31:27Speaker 2: don't even coach the bowl game. So I got to
- 31:32Speaker 2: turn it over to an assistant coach, an interrum coach
- 31:36Speaker 2: who's an assistant, and then the university's got to feel
- 31:41Speaker 2: that job because I'm gone to another school. Right. That
- 31:49Speaker 2: should not be. That should not happen, like you can
- 31:54Speaker 2: if you're getting paid for the year, the year means
- 31:57Speaker 2: to me, to the end of the season, whatever that
- 32:00Speaker 2: time and date is.
- 32:02Speaker 4: I agree, but that's not how it works.
- 32:05Speaker 2: I just don't and that makes no sense to me.
- 32:07Speaker 4: It doesn't make sense, and something needs to happen. Something
- 32:10Speaker 4: needs to The rules need to change to me. If
- 32:13Speaker 4: a player, like you said, starts the year with the school,
- 32:16Speaker 4: they need to finish the year. If they want to
- 32:18Speaker 4: sit out the bowl game, that's fine, but they cannot
- 32:20Speaker 4: enter the transfer portal until that bowl game is complete.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Why does the portal open prior to the last foot
- 32:28Speaker 2: It should not open until the last football game is played.
- 32:32Speaker 4: You're preaching to the choir.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Absolutely, I mean that makes no sense.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Well, let's just let's put this in terms of the NFL.
- 32:39Speaker 4: That would be like the NFL playoffs beginning. You have
- 32:43Speaker 4: all your wild cards, you have all your teams starting
- 32:45Speaker 4: the playoffs.
- 32:46Speaker 2: I'm a free agent and I'm going to go somewhere.
- 32:48Speaker 4: Then that they allow them to become free agents before
- 32:51Speaker 4: the playoffs and the Super Bowl even happen. It makes
- 32:53Speaker 4: no sense.
- 32:54Speaker 2: There's nothing and there's a whole lot of ways you
- 32:58Speaker 2: can see you could stay with your state in there
- 33:00Speaker 2: that it makes no sense. But I could say it
- 33:03Speaker 2: a lot a whole.
- 33:06Speaker 4: Nice probably for sure, because I don't like it. I
- 33:08Speaker 4: don't like it, and I mean, you look at what's
- 33:11Speaker 4: happened to Marshall. I mean, I understand these kids got
- 33:15Speaker 4: to do what's best for them, but there is no
- 33:18Speaker 4: sense of gratitude. Is that the word I want to use?
- 33:22Speaker 4: Or depreciation? Loyalty?
- 33:24Speaker 2: No loyalty and appreciation for.
- 33:26Speaker 4: What what they've done, what they've done for them.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Yes, I mean for the.
- 33:30Speaker 4: Fan base, for the school. I mean, what is it.
- 33:34Speaker 2: I think I think I saw the last number that
- 33:36Speaker 2: I saw was forty. Some kids are in the portal.
- 33:41Speaker 4: Yes, as the team. All the quarterbacks are gone.
- 33:46Speaker 2: All the quarterbacks are gone.
- 33:47Speaker 4: The quarterback controversy, there's not one now.
- 33:50Speaker 2: So I'm let's say I'm a junior. I hadn't started,
- 33:53Speaker 2: but I thought this was going to be my year
- 33:55Speaker 2: to start, so I made and I'm probably not gonna
- 33:59Speaker 2: be in the portal because i haven't played, right, so
- 34:03Speaker 2: now my opportunity to play. I'm coming off of a
- 34:07Speaker 2: team that's that went bowling, sure, you know, and then
- 34:12Speaker 2: following year, the next year, I'm going to be starting,
- 34:16Speaker 2: and we're we may not even be able to build
- 34:20Speaker 2: a team. And most of these guys, most of these
- 34:24Speaker 2: guys are scholarship guys. The majority of the guys who
- 34:27Speaker 2: are in the portal are I want to make the
- 34:30Speaker 2: case that they were all scholarship guys. Now, if that's
- 34:33Speaker 2: all scholarship guys, that's got to be at least close
- 34:37Speaker 2: to your twenty two starting offensive defensive guys.
- 34:41Speaker 4: This, I mean, I didn't count exactly, but you're right,
- 34:45Speaker 4: you're close to the numbers. How many are gone.
- 34:47Speaker 2: I'm almost short. It was forty. It was forty something.
- 34:49Speaker 4: It's almost the entire team. Yes, that's exactly what I
- 34:52Speaker 4: read and because.
- 34:54Speaker 2: They're saying it, they're saying it after.
- 34:56Speaker 4: The whole special. We're not special. This happens everywhere. This
- 34:59Speaker 4: happened to you just a few years ago. When they're
- 35:01Speaker 4: coach left, the whole team practically left and they had
- 35:04Speaker 4: to rebuild. And that's the problem with it goes back
- 35:07Speaker 4: to nil our favorite subjects, because what those kids do
- 35:10Speaker 4: is they go once they have established that they're good players,
- 35:13Speaker 4: they're winning a championship at a school. If their coach leaves,
- 35:16Speaker 4: they're going to follow them to the bigger program, more money,
- 35:19Speaker 4: more everything. And what happens to the school is we're
- 35:22Speaker 4: just left here starting over and it's a cycle. It's
- 35:25Speaker 4: going to keep happening this way. It's not going to
- 35:27Speaker 4: change until the NCAA does something about it and regulates it.
- 35:32Speaker 4: This is the fate of the Marshals and I'm sorry,
- 35:35Speaker 4: it's the fate of the WUS two. I mean, I
- 35:38Speaker 4: know WU is a bigger program and more money than Marshall,
- 35:41Speaker 4: but they're still not in Alabama, and there's still not
- 35:44Speaker 4: a Georgia. There's still the elite group and then there's US.
- 35:50Speaker 2: It may hit some nerves, oh well yeah, but It's true.
- 35:55Speaker 4: It's just true.
- 35:56Speaker 2: It's true. We can't compete, not with with with within
- 36:02Speaker 2: my own money, you know. And I'm going to make
- 36:06Speaker 2: the case that coach Houff and his his opportunity is
- 36:14Speaker 2: a great opportunity for him. It's lateral, it is lateral.
- 36:18Speaker 2: But if he goes in and he turns that program
- 36:21Speaker 2: around in a couple of years, as if at the
- 36:26Speaker 2: same as if he has exactly the same success at
- 36:29Speaker 2: Southern Mists as he had at Marshall, He's proved, he's
- 36:33Speaker 2: proven him, he's proven himself. Now he has an opportunity
- 36:37Speaker 2: to to to really jump into a big time school,
- 36:43Speaker 2: which I'm sure that's his goal, and he has all
- 36:45Speaker 2: the right to be able to want that and to
- 36:49Speaker 2: and to achieve that.
- 36:51Speaker 4: But I'm going to defend our school. I'm going to
- 36:54Speaker 4: defend Marshall because I've heard some really negative things out
- 36:56Speaker 4: there on social media and in the you know, all
- 36:59Speaker 4: the news outlets saying that Marshall lost him Marshall, it
- 37:03Speaker 4: was Marshall's fault that he left, that they didn't extend
- 37:06Speaker 4: the contract. Not so fast, my friend. I mean, there's
- 37:09Speaker 4: some history there from what I think the Christian spears right,
- 37:13Speaker 4: is there ad. He said that from day one, Huff
- 37:17Speaker 4: pursued multiple jobs. He was always open for looking at
- 37:22Speaker 4: other schools and interviews from day one and after the
- 37:25Speaker 4: twenty twenty two season, and they were successful that they
- 37:29Speaker 4: did offer him an extension of the contract, but there
- 37:31Speaker 4: were arguments about the stipulations of a buyout and he
- 37:35Speaker 4: didn't like the stipulations. Huff didn't like it, so he
- 37:37Speaker 4: didn't accept it. Well, then, of course, you know, the
- 37:40Speaker 4: next year, there's six and seven. So the school decided, oh,
- 37:43Speaker 4: we'll just wait a little bit, we'll see what happens
- 37:45Speaker 4: next year, which would be this year, and so they
- 37:48Speaker 4: came to an agreement. Basically, I think that they would
- 37:52Speaker 4: wait until the end of this season to determine what
- 37:57Speaker 4: the contract would look like, and they had a contract
- 37:59Speaker 4: in place when he left. So I'm going to defend
- 38:02Speaker 4: I'm going to defend Marshall a little bit because I
- 38:04Speaker 4: feel like they're getting some bad press. They they're they're
- 38:07Speaker 4: there there. Some of the fans' views are that we
- 38:11Speaker 4: let him go, and I don't think that's the case.
- 38:14Speaker 4: I think he wanted to go, not that he didn't
- 38:17Speaker 4: like Marshall. I just think his aspirations, like you said,
- 38:20Speaker 4: he has, he wants to go somewhere else, prove that
- 38:23Speaker 4: he can rebuild a team again. And that's definitely going
- 38:26Speaker 4: to open some doors for him Alabama.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Right, you know what I'm saying. I mean, he's going
- 38:31Speaker 2: to be on that level. If he turns another program around, Sure,
- 38:35Speaker 2: he's going to be on that level. And again, let's
- 38:38Speaker 2: assume that Alabama has does not recover from Nick Saban.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Sure I would make the case that's where his long
- 38:45Speaker 2: term goal could be.
- 38:46Speaker 4: Probably, you know, I would think that's fair.
- 38:48Speaker 2: And but again, I had a conversation earlier today and
- 38:55Speaker 2: one of the and and I won't go into details
- 38:57Speaker 2: of the conversation, but one of the things that I
- 39:03Speaker 2: try to keep focus on, and I think people need
- 39:08Speaker 2: to kind of keep focus on this, whether it's youth football,
- 39:14Speaker 2: middle school, high school, college, at the end of the day,
- 39:21Speaker 2: the sport itself is taking care of teaching, informing young
- 39:31Speaker 2: athletes about life, life lessons, life lessons. Right, we have
- 39:40Speaker 2: taken college football, and we've taken like what is true
- 39:47Speaker 2: to life about this? What this has showing you? Like
- 39:50Speaker 2: some money matters, it's all that all that matters, doesn't
- 39:54Speaker 2: matter where the school is, doesn't matter what their record is.
- 39:57Speaker 2: You show me the money. I'm coming right now. Whose
- 40:02Speaker 2: fault is that? That's the folks with the money. That's
- 40:05Speaker 2: to me, that's not the kids. The kids had nothing.
- 40:08Speaker 4: The election of our society.
- 40:09Speaker 2: It is it is and what we've become. And I think,
- 40:14Speaker 2: did you send me something or I don't know if
- 40:15Speaker 2: it was you or Holler sent me.
- 40:16Speaker 4: Something about privatizing, privatizing.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Collegiate football teams when somebody's owning somebody, a billionaire can
- 40:27Speaker 2: come in and own and put his money into a
- 40:32Speaker 2: university's football team.
- 40:34Speaker 4: Oh, it's already out there. I think the actual billionaire
- 40:37Speaker 4: you're talking about is the former Bucks owner Lazarie Lazaries.
- 40:42Speaker 4: That sounds right. He used to own the Bucks. I
- 40:45Speaker 4: don't know if I'm pronouncing his name right, but anyway,
- 40:47Speaker 4: but if.
- 40:47Speaker 2: You're not getting it, well, then I got no shot.
- 40:50Speaker 4: I know i'm reading specialistrike, but he's actually looking into
- 40:54Speaker 4: bidding on college sports teams, and his is all about profit.
- 40:59Speaker 4: It's not about well, it's it's all about the bottom dollar.
- 41:03Speaker 4: And in his vision, he thinks that schools could sell
- 41:06Speaker 4: their programs to outside, you know, private industries, and that
- 41:13Speaker 4: would increase that school's in I own money and also
- 41:17Speaker 4: increase the you know, money for the facilities all the
- 41:20Speaker 4: things that go with it. And and and then the owners,
- 41:23Speaker 4: the people that own that particular sport also make a profit.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Yeah, because they're they're they're taking the gate, they're taking
- 41:31Speaker 2: that the income coming in from the.
- 41:33Speaker 4: Football, privatizing college sport.
- 41:35Speaker 2: The question the question, okay, so the question that comes
- 41:39Speaker 2: with that too for me, is the football program brings
- 41:46Speaker 2: in the most money of any sports team. They're the king,
- 41:51Speaker 2: they're the king. And I'm going to make the case
- 41:56Speaker 2: that the majority of I don't know if I want
- 41:59Speaker 2: to say the majority of that money comes back into
- 42:03Speaker 2: the football program, but let's just say, and there's there's
- 42:05Speaker 2: a big amount that comes back into the program, whether
- 42:09Speaker 2: it's which which we can't count scholarships, so scholarships is
- 42:13Speaker 2: just no money coming into the schools. They're just letting
- 42:16Speaker 2: you sit in that class. Okay, but you're gonna make
- 42:21Speaker 2: You're making money from the gate, you're making money from concessions,
- 42:24Speaker 2: You're making all this kind of money from TV revenues
- 42:27Speaker 2: and all of that kind of stuff. And you're gonna
- 42:31Speaker 2: turn You're gonna turn that over for profit for profits
- 42:35Speaker 2: for an individual to profit himself on.
- 42:40Speaker 4: Just you think tickets are prices? Are how to ask?
- 42:43Speaker 2: Yes, where are they gonna go? And then and and
- 42:45Speaker 2: who and who controls that right? That's got to be
- 42:49Speaker 2: the owner of that football team?
- 42:52Speaker 4: And and probably, let's be realistic, Carl, the schools that
- 42:55Speaker 4: take advantage of that are going to be the schools
- 42:57Speaker 4: that don't have the financial backing that the bigger schools do.
- 43:03Speaker 4: A school like Alabama will not have to worry about that.
- 43:06Speaker 4: They won't have to worry about it now. Maybe eventually
- 43:08Speaker 4: on down the road. But when this first starts, it's
- 43:11Speaker 4: going to be hitting the smaller schools. They're going to
- 43:13Speaker 4: be targeting those schools that are desperate for money to compete.
- 43:17Speaker 2: See, I'm gonna I'm gonna strongly disagree with you here. Yeah,
- 43:22Speaker 2: because why I'm gonna go. I'm going to go to Alabama.
- 43:27Speaker 2: I'm going to.
- 43:28Speaker 4: You're gonna have to pay more money to buy hinder
- 43:31Speaker 4: their sports.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Honey, I got all this money, and I want to
- 43:34Speaker 2: make money. I don't want to I don't want to
- 43:36Speaker 2: spend time on trying to make money. I'm guaranteed to
- 43:41Speaker 2: make money at Alabama.
- 43:42Speaker 4: It's a good point.
- 43:44Speaker 2: You're gonna cut to me.
- 43:45Speaker 4: You're gonna feel this starts when they first start. They're
- 43:47Speaker 4: gonna like play it out with the smaller schools to
- 43:50Speaker 4: see if it works. You don't think, They don't think.
- 43:52Speaker 4: So they target They target bigger program.
- 43:55Speaker 2: Target the top okay, the top conferences, the top team
- 44:01Speaker 2: and I and I'd almost say that I don't know
- 44:04Speaker 2: if they'll even touch I don't know if they'll touch
- 44:10Speaker 2: a bottom level.
- 44:11Speaker 4: Wait, here's the thing, Carl. The schools they're not desperate.
- 44:15Speaker 4: They already have millions of dollars for nil and all
- 44:17Speaker 4: the things that they need. They don't need the private
- 44:20Speaker 4: I would make the.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Case shaller schools do why would they? But yes, but
- 44:24Speaker 2: why would what? Why would we do that? Why would
- 44:27Speaker 2: we do that that? You know, if they don't need it?
- 44:30Speaker 2: This is only this is this is this conversation. Isn't
- 44:34Speaker 2: happening to that small university, that this conversation is happening
- 44:39Speaker 2: to a two into a larger university Who's like, hmm,
- 44:45Speaker 2: Now it could end up being kicked down to I
- 44:49Speaker 2: don't know if I'm want to call it second tier.
- 44:50Speaker 2: But the lower levels of college football compared to the top.
- 44:56Speaker 4: Well, the top could say we don't want your stipulations,
- 44:59Speaker 4: we don't want your I'm sure when who want to
- 45:02Speaker 4: come in and buy your sport, there's gonna be there's
- 45:05Speaker 4: gonna be things they want you to do.
- 45:06Speaker 2: Absolutely, So why would a university, Why would a university
- 45:10Speaker 2: do that for money?
- 45:11Speaker 4: That's why I think it would be the smaller schools.
- 45:13Speaker 2: Carl, No, no, no, see.
- 45:16Speaker 4: I agree to disagree on this one.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Well, to see again, the billionaires don't want the little
- 45:26Speaker 2: bit of money that quote the smaller schools and make
- 45:29Speaker 2: there's no deal, there's no there's no benefit there.
- 45:32Speaker 4: But don't you think this is more about the fact.
- 45:36Speaker 4: I think this is all about something. I think it's
- 45:37Speaker 4: more of an ego.
- 45:39Speaker 2: I think it is part ego. I think there's a
- 45:41Speaker 2: large part of it is ego. But and because of ego,
- 45:45Speaker 2: I don't want such and such tech. You know, I
- 45:49Speaker 2: want Alabama. I want Georgia, I want You know what
- 45:52Speaker 2: I'm saying, I've got Georgia in my pocket. I've got
- 45:54Speaker 2: Alabama in my pocket. You know what I'm saying. Not
- 45:57Speaker 2: the name is in my pocket. That's that's probably you know,
- 46:01Speaker 2: I'm not gonna Why am I gonna throw money at
- 46:05Speaker 2: you know, at A at A it's still.
- 46:07Speaker 4: Want to make money that I'm not really interested.
- 46:09Speaker 2: Come on, do they really need to make money? This
- 46:12Speaker 2: is to me, I don't even think this is really
- 46:14Speaker 2: so much about making money as can you imagine being
- 46:19Speaker 2: the owner of of Alabama. You're at the game, you're
- 46:24Speaker 2: walking down around on the field, now you're on TV.
- 46:27Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, It's an ego, it's an
- 46:29Speaker 2: ego thing.
- 46:30Speaker 4: We'll see how that plays out, but that that that
- 46:32Speaker 4: is definitely something that's on the horizon and I do
- 46:35Speaker 4: think that within the next five years it's happening.
- 46:38Speaker 2: We have we have so many problems. We have so
- 46:42Speaker 2: many problems in sports from from the ground up, I know,
- 46:49Speaker 2: and to to add this one kind of as a
- 46:54Speaker 2: on on the on the horizon something that could very
- 46:58Speaker 2: well be lean ring out there for for for it
- 47:04Speaker 2: to happen. Is it's it's scary. It's scary to me.
- 47:09Speaker 4: Because once we start doing that, then are we going
- 47:12Speaker 4: to start like gambling like they do and and you
- 47:15Speaker 4: know how the draft Kings and all those different organ
- 47:19Speaker 4: you know, those different apps or.
- 47:21Speaker 2: Let me help you in the help you, Yeah, let
- 47:24Speaker 2: me help you with that. It's probably when when I
- 47:29Speaker 2: when I was playing. Okay, so there was a there
- 47:31Speaker 2: was a big deal about gambling, right like you couldn't
- 47:34Speaker 2: you couldn't gamble if you could, if you gamble, you
- 47:36Speaker 2: didn't put out of the league, and DA DA D
- 47:38Speaker 2: and all this kind of stuff. Okay, So then all
- 47:42Speaker 2: of a sudden, all of a sudden, you bring in
- 47:46Speaker 2: a a actual gambling You have gambling commercials, and then
- 47:51Speaker 2: you have gambling actually happening within ESPN like a show, yes,
- 48:00Speaker 2: like giving you the numbers and all this kind of stuff.
- 48:05Speaker 4: How I don't know how it's ethical.
- 48:08Speaker 2: How is that for what you told me as a
- 48:12Speaker 2: football player that you are absolutely not allowed to gamble
- 48:18Speaker 2: on your team at all, no way, for any reason,
- 48:24Speaker 2: and if you do, your career is over.
- 48:26Speaker 4: Yeah okay almost in every sport.
- 48:30Speaker 2: Yes, but I can remember hearing this. We have a
- 48:34Speaker 2: team meeting with people coming in telling us that we
- 48:39Speaker 2: cannot gamble and what it does and all of this
- 48:41Speaker 2: kind of stuff, And all of a sudden, I look up.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Fan duel is on is being advertised all through draft kings,
- 48:52Speaker 2: all the way through every every sporting event. Sure, and
- 48:58Speaker 2: now i'm the if I'm thinking, I'm looking at it
- 49:01Speaker 2: now and I'm a player, Why is it still illegal
- 49:06Speaker 2: because you're advertising? I mean, why can I gamble on
- 49:09Speaker 2: my team? Why can't I? Why can't I? Can my
- 49:12Speaker 2: wife do it?
- 49:13Speaker 4: But you do exactly?
- 49:15Speaker 2: Can so? Can she go vote? Can she go better
- 49:18Speaker 2: on on on the vikings to win the game? And
- 49:21Speaker 2: I'm playing.
- 49:21Speaker 4: I mean, there's so many ways you could get around it.
- 49:24Speaker 4: I mean, you've got friends out there that could have
- 49:26Speaker 4: an account. You go to your friends, so here, here's
- 49:28Speaker 4: some money, put some money on my team. I'm sure
- 49:30Speaker 4: it happened because I know, because I know it will
- 49:32Speaker 4: be traced.
- 49:32Speaker 2: I know for a fact there were some guys who
- 49:35Speaker 2: did gamble, and I want to say, and I can't
- 49:38Speaker 2: be one hundred percent true, they lost their career because
- 49:42Speaker 2: of gamble.
- 49:43Speaker 4: But back then it had to be in person. It's
- 49:45Speaker 4: not like today's world where you have it all on
- 49:47Speaker 4: your phone everywhere.
- 49:49Speaker 2: You can do it anywhere anywhere. Yeah, I just I think.
- 49:53Speaker 4: That's another part of it. That's what blows my mind
- 49:56Speaker 4: to I just don't think you're showing age.
- 50:00Speaker 2: I'm really, I'm really wondering what I'm really wondering what
- 50:04Speaker 2: the person who bets and or is a gambler on sports,
- 50:08Speaker 2: specifically football. And if you're and you hear this, come
- 50:15Speaker 2: on my Facebook, let's talk with Crawley and tell me that,
- 50:19Speaker 2: because I want to have a conversation about like why
- 50:23Speaker 2: you why is it that you are? Like what do
- 50:26Speaker 2: you get out of the whole gambling thing, because like
- 50:28Speaker 2: I've never been a gambler, you know, I get that.
- 50:31Speaker 4: But like, I mean, what does my friends do it?
- 50:34Speaker 4: I mean I don't.
- 50:35Speaker 2: I don't put is it on the spread? Is it
- 50:37Speaker 2: on the spread of the game? Is it just who's winning?
- 50:39Speaker 2: Just like I always like so many, so many different things.
- 50:42Speaker 2: See that's see I'm curious about what that is. And
- 50:47Speaker 2: and if I was a player playing in a game,
- 50:51Speaker 2: can I give could I give you that information? Like
- 50:55Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, like because I'm curious, because
- 50:57Speaker 2: I'm curious, like, can you.
- 50:59Speaker 4: Know have been?
- 51:01Speaker 2: And I truly do not believe this that a player
- 51:06Speaker 2: would give up a touchdown, give up an I don't
- 51:10Speaker 2: I don't think.
- 51:11Speaker 4: I don't think the game.
- 51:11Speaker 2: I don't think it affects the game as because because
- 51:14Speaker 2: the outright outright because the players have to make plays
- 51:19Speaker 2: sure to get a better contract, right, you know. So
- 51:22Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not giving up a touchdown for you
- 51:25Speaker 2: to win a bet and you're gonna pay me something
- 51:27Speaker 2: off the bet. No, I know I'm not doing that. No,
- 51:30Speaker 2: so I don't think that. But I just I'm trying
- 51:33Speaker 2: to figure out, like what is the stake?
- 51:36Speaker 4: But the access is so easy now. It's not like
- 51:39Speaker 4: whenever you know you were playing ball, or when I
- 51:41Speaker 4: was younger, I mean you had to actually go to
- 51:43Speaker 4: a casino or now you can do somebody.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Yeah, if you said, everything's on your phone.
- 51:48Speaker 4: Everything's on your phone. So it's it's just so easy
- 51:51Speaker 4: to do. It's I don't know. To me, it's kind
- 51:55Speaker 4: of distasteful. I don't I don't like seeing it. I
- 51:57Speaker 4: don't like the mixture.
- 51:59Speaker 2: All right, So I'm real quick, I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 52:02Speaker 2: take a shot at Marshall situation and try to figure out, like,
- 52:09Speaker 2: but what I think is going to what I think
- 52:13Speaker 2: is going to happen, And then I'm curious to see
- 52:18Speaker 2: what you think. I I think we hire the coach,
- 52:23Speaker 2: We're gonna we're gonna get Gibson. We're gonna get him,
- 52:26Speaker 2: We're gonna hire him. I think there's gonna be some form.
- 52:34Speaker 2: I'm gonna make the case that a lot of those
- 52:36Speaker 2: kids are who've gone in the portal have not left.
- 52:39Speaker 4: Okay, okay.
- 52:41Speaker 2: So I think that what's gonna happen is they're gonna
- 52:43Speaker 2: have this conversation, and I think he's going to possibly
- 52:48Speaker 2: be able to sell some of those kids to stay,
- 52:52Speaker 2: and and and and potentially it'll settle itself down. I
- 52:57Speaker 2: don't think he's gonna I don't think he's going to
- 52:59Speaker 2: be able to stop the top players just because they're
- 53:03Speaker 2: their top dollar, unless he can come back with with
- 53:07Speaker 2: matching money, which I don't think that will happen. But
- 53:11Speaker 2: so I think that they may lose.
- 53:15Speaker 4: Most of them, most.
- 53:16Speaker 2: Of the most most of most of most of the
- 53:19Speaker 2: starting starting guys. I'm hoping that one of the quarterbacks
- 53:23Speaker 2: will stay. If I was one of the quarterbacks, I'd stay, like, oh.
- 53:27Speaker 4: Okay, Cole Pennington's already announced.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he will.
- 53:32Speaker 4: Earn it, says Broxton.
- 53:34Speaker 2: Are they gone or just.
- 53:37Speaker 4: They're entering the portal.
- 53:38Speaker 2: So my hope is is in this conversation I can
- 53:43Speaker 2: get a few of you all to settle in and
- 53:46Speaker 2: let's let's sit down and have a conversation. What do
- 53:49Speaker 2: we need? How does this work? And let's let's let's
- 53:53Speaker 2: play ball, Let's go, let's go hurt right. I think
- 53:56Speaker 2: if they I think if if we get a chance,
- 54:00Speaker 2: think if he gets a chance to sit down with
- 54:02Speaker 2: these guys and have a conversation. Maybe he's already had
- 54:04Speaker 2: it and they're still gone, but I think if he
- 54:07Speaker 2: has a conversation with these guys individually and try to
- 54:11Speaker 2: figure out what are you looking for? What do you
- 54:14Speaker 2: what do you want out of your football career? Okay,
- 54:17Speaker 2: you know, Yeah, there's a chance that those guys can stay.
- 54:20Speaker 4: And I think it depends too on you know. With
- 54:22Speaker 4: with with Huff, we talked about that charisma he had
- 54:26Speaker 4: with his players. He had that he had that ability
- 54:29Speaker 4: to reach them and to motivate them and to get
- 54:32Speaker 4: them to play their best game and and do all
- 54:34Speaker 4: the things. We've talked about how positive he was his
- 54:37Speaker 4: interactions with his his players. It was so positive and uplifting.
- 54:42Speaker 4: We're hoping that Gibson can have that sort of persona
- 54:46Speaker 4: as well in the locker room, and it's a tough face.
- 54:49Speaker 2: It's tough to follow.
- 54:50Speaker 4: It's a tough thing to follow, absolutely, especially he's not
- 54:52Speaker 4: been a head coach before. Correct, this is his first
- 54:55Speaker 4: head coaching job. I think he's been mainly uh, you know,
- 54:58Speaker 4: coordinators on the side. And but you know, Marshall has
- 55:02Speaker 4: faith in him. They gave him a six year contract,
- 55:05Speaker 4: so to me, that says and I think that was
- 55:08Speaker 4: part of why he was so attracted.
- 55:10Speaker 2: That's that's that's that's big.
- 55:12Speaker 4: Six year contract. And I think the reason why was
- 55:14Speaker 4: because he wanted to come home. He's from here, and
- 55:17Speaker 4: I think Marshall has faith that he is dedicated to
- 55:20Speaker 4: the program and not looking elsewhere at this point.
- 55:25Speaker 2: But I think everybody, I think once you have success,
- 55:28Speaker 2: whether you're looking or not, somebody's somebody's gonna look at you.
- 55:34Speaker 4: Oh sure, sure, Yeah. I'm not saying it wouldn't happen.
- 55:37Speaker 4: It won't happen. It depends on the success he has
- 55:39Speaker 4: it At Marshall in a way, he's a curse. It's
- 55:41Speaker 4: a blessing and a curse when you do well. We
- 55:43Speaker 4: know that.
- 55:44Speaker 2: Yeah, And I mean this is this is gonna be
- 55:46Speaker 2: this is really going to be tough. If he can't
- 55:48Speaker 2: hold these guys.
- 55:51Speaker 4: I know it's it's concerning, but you know we're not
- 55:55Speaker 4: the only one out there experiencing this, and we can't
- 55:58Speaker 4: feel like we're special war alone. It's everywhere at our.
- 56:02Speaker 2: Why do I think this is the worst? Though this
- 56:04Speaker 2: might be the worst. Is this may be the worst
- 56:07Speaker 2: portal situation.
- 56:09Speaker 4: In recent in recent history. Yeah, I mean it's probably close.
- 56:13Speaker 4: JMU was pretty tough too, I'm telling you I.
