- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: Listen, share, and embrace the power of influence in your life.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: Hey everybody Brian Smith here with the I'm team series and your daily influence and today on daily influence I am going to focus on a simple discipline that can dramatically shift how your influence lands in your world and really the easiest way for me to say is it's the 10 second influence check and what I mean by that is before you hit send.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: on a text, on an email, any kind of message or even a post, you have a tiny window to pause and ask yourself, whether you what you're about to release reflects your intent, your values, and the influence you want to have.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: This moment is the pure eye and team and it can be amazingly smart, intentional, responsible and aligned with how you want to show up as a leader and as a human.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: You know, unfortunately, influence lives in micro moments.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we can spend our whole lives building up people to trust us, our whole lives building our areas of influence to be one way.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: And in one brief moment, we could rip it apart because every message has a ripple and the small ones often travel the furthest.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: This 10 second pause helps you to shift from reaction to responsible intention and it's a core principle we have here at the iM team series making it a habit before hitting send to ask is this how I want to influence this person or this situation or my area of influence.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: So one of the things that we teach here at the IM team series and at an IA is our smart discipline, which is built on our smart framework.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: And as you have heard, or if you haven't, you know, smart stands for specific measurable attainable relevant in timely.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: So how does that apply to our 10 second check-in?
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: Well, specificity.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: is your message clear or are you leaving room for misinterpretation?
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: And that could be through tone to measure ability.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: Does the message move a conversation or decision in a positive and improving direction?
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: And attainability is what you're asking or what your stating realistic
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: does the message align with your goals, your values, and in the relationships that you want to maintain within your area of influencing and finally is timeless.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: You know, is this the right moment to send it?
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: Or would waiting create a better outcome?
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: having more clarity on whatever the topic is with that provide for us to have a better time to say what it is we think we need to say.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know this quick filter helps ensure that our communication strengthens relationships.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: Instead of fracturing them strengthens our area of influence in a way that helps us to keep moving in the direction that we hope we are moving in.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: Often times in our communications, we don't think about the emotional wake we leave behind us and you know those are part of the ripples that we have and what we do.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know how I feel or how we feel is not always how others will receive a message.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: This 10 second influence checks asks, if I were on the other side of this message,
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: how would it land and that could be difficult sometimes because being pragmatic or objective about something that we are presently emotional for can be tremendously hard to do.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: But this pause
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: reduces unnecessary conflict oftentimes.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: And it supports psychological safety, it reinforces the kind of influence that your core values strive for you to have in build daily.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: So this is a quick topic today on daily influence.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: And what I think is really important is that we have to
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: seen unseen and every message we send becomes part of our ripple.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: Taking just 10 seconds before you hit send can shift your communication from reactive to intentional, from emotional to effective, and from accidental to aligned.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: Practice it today, pause, reflect, then send with purpose.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for joining me as always on daily influence where I hope we are learning together to find, be and build our influence.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: One intentional action at a time.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: I hope you have a great day.
