- 0:12Speaker 2: what I was thinking. You know, first of all, when
- 0:14Speaker 2: I said that, Evan always jokes whenever a show starts
- 0:18Speaker 2: and they're like, we have a really great episode today,
- 0:20Speaker 2: He's like, what are they going to say?
- 0:21Speaker 1: I suppose we'll be fun you guys, tune out, turn
- 0:25Speaker 1: turn your radio.
- 0:26Speaker 2: No, But it actually is a great one today because
- 0:28Speaker 2: I was thinking, like you know, when you have like
- 0:30Speaker 2: you you wake up and you have this idea and
- 0:32Speaker 2: you're like, oh, I really want to do this, and
- 0:34Speaker 2: then like an hour later you're like, nah, too much effort. Yes,
- 0:37Speaker 2: our guest today wakes up and oh my god, every
- 0:40Speaker 2: single thing you can imagine doing she has done. I
- 0:43Speaker 2: absolutely agree, and I'm I definitely forget the Oh my god,
- 0:46Speaker 2: I should do this, And three minutes in on my
- 0:48Speaker 2: a You're like, no, because that'll take a lot of
- 0:50Speaker 2: aff Yeah.
- 0:51Speaker 1: No, she is especially acquire shower exactly. But this woman,
- 0:54Speaker 1: as you guys probably know, is a go getter for sure. Right,
- 0:59Speaker 1: So today we have yes on the pad. Then again, Jack,
- 1:04Speaker 1: I don't think we gave it enough of a bang.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Right, Today we have Maria Manuno's yeah, baby, yeah she
- 1:11Speaker 2: is well, first of all, she's like the most stunning
- 1:14Speaker 2: woman in the world. I always thought of her as
- 1:19Speaker 2: just like a celebrity correspondent, right right, Yeah, So when
- 1:24Speaker 2: I sat down to just like look at her bio,
- 1:28Speaker 2: oh my god, Like there is nothing that she hasn't done,
- 1:32Speaker 2: literally because she got.
- 1:33Speaker 1: When you hear the name, it's like you can't even
- 1:36Speaker 1: like pinpoint though. One thing, she's just been a present.
- 1:39Speaker 1: When she's younger, well she's your age, right, she's a
- 1:41Speaker 1: little younger than me. But like I always picture her
- 1:43Speaker 1: from and I maybe I mean, you know, I know
- 1:46Speaker 1: Access Hollywood like all of those et and I know
- 1:50Speaker 1: she didn't do all those not tamous Knight and whatever.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I just always picture her.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I picture her also as the panteine girl, yes, like
- 1:57Speaker 2: I know that with that unbelievable hair.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Yes, But she has been everything.
- 2:02Speaker 2: So she's been obviously a TV host, she was on
- 2:07Speaker 2: Access Hollywood, E Extra, she was an actress, she was
- 2:11Speaker 2: an actress, still an actress. She uh was a wrestler.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I don't even know, like we have to ask her
- 2:18Speaker 1: a little bit about that, but like kind of a
- 2:20Speaker 1: I can't even if you picture her in a ring, No.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I don't. I don't know exactly in what capacity she
- 2:25Speaker 2: has to start as a WWE, but I know.
- 2:27Speaker 1: That she actually I know that she actually like fought
- 2:30Speaker 1: Oh really, yeah.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I hope I'm not off there.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I don't know that, but I'm pretty right. Yes, I
- 2:35Speaker 1: am pretty sure she produced a movie.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I know that. Yeah, I know that she has won
- 2:42Speaker 2: beauty pageant, right, She's had a radio show, a podcast,
- 2:47Speaker 2: a reality show chasing Mariam Minuno right right there, like
- 2:52Speaker 2: literally there's been and she started early, like she started
- 2:55Speaker 2: in childhood. So I'm really excited to talk to her
- 2:57Speaker 2: because I only know this like little bit of fame
- 3:01Speaker 2: as an adult, fully formed result, so I could make
- 3:04Speaker 2: rational decisions.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I can't imagine starting so young. Yeah, and she's been
- 3:09Speaker 1: through it, you guys. I mean, I don't know listeners
- 3:12Speaker 1: what you know, but she is. She's battled, she had
- 3:15Speaker 1: she's had several battles with her family having cancer, her
- 3:19Speaker 1: mom had a brain tumor, her actually her dad had
- 3:23Speaker 1: had Type one diabetes, which is what.
- 3:25Speaker 2: My daughter has.
- 3:26Speaker 1: So I'm excited to kind of talk to her about that.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And now she's in her own battle with pancreatic cancer,
- 3:34Speaker 1: so you know she's been through it, and she has
- 3:37Speaker 1: a baby. She has a baby, and she has a
- 3:40Speaker 1: new movie. Yes on it's on Lifetime. M Yeah, yes
- 3:47Speaker 1: it is hill manor yeah, I can't imagine. No, I
- 3:50Speaker 1: feel very inadequate segment.
- 3:52Speaker 2: She's very open about her health battle. Yeah, so we'll
- 3:56Speaker 2: talk about everything. Really excited to have her on. So
- 3:59Speaker 2: let's welcome Maria Minutos. Hi. Guys, Hi, Maria. You're just
- 4:06Speaker 2: as beautiful as I was to say.
- 4:07Speaker 3: It's like, thank you. I was hoping my my crazy
- 4:12Speaker 3: sunlight was gonna shift just at the right time, because
- 4:15Speaker 3: see it's like right there.
- 4:16Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, you look ethereal it's actually.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Like an angel.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Yes, So it's not only what you look like, but
- 4:24Speaker 1: as we were like, as we were opening here talking
- 4:27Speaker 1: about the things that you've done, it's a little bit intimidating.
- 4:32Speaker 2: It's bordering on annoying. But I am.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Welcoming you with open arms and a warm heart.
- 4:37Speaker 2: We both are. I am pretty amazed, are you Right now?
- 4:40Speaker 3: We're in Jersey, I'm in Connecticut.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Actually you're in Connecticut. Okay, so yeah, so we're neighbors.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I met. We are in New Jersey. You know that
- 4:48Speaker 2: came out like where and you grew up in Boston.
- 4:50Speaker 3: No, I grew up in Boston. Yeah, just outside of Boston, Hedford.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Oh okay, I went to Boston Universe we went to
- 4:58Speaker 1: after a couple of years. But yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't.
- 5:01Speaker 1: But anyway, that's for another episode. So Maria, welcome. Thank
- 5:06Speaker 1: you so much for being with us. We really do
- 5:07Speaker 1: appreciate it, and thanks for having no we want to
- 5:10Speaker 1: just start out, you know, when we have started out
- 5:12Speaker 1: already kind of listing your accomplishments. Your career has been huge.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I honestly, Jackie just said, like, you know when you like,
- 5:20Speaker 1: wake up and you think I'm going to do this today,
- 5:22Speaker 1: and then you know, five minutes in, you're like, eh,
- 5:24Speaker 1: not so much. Like we're saying that Maria Minuno's is
- 5:27Speaker 1: the one that actually does it, which is rare. So
- 5:31Speaker 1: you know, and again we started talking about all the
- 5:34Speaker 1: things that you've done, but maybe I'm sure that we're
- 5:37Speaker 1: missing a lot. I was actually saying you started out
- 5:40Speaker 1: as like miss teen, Were you like miss teen Massachusetts?
- 5:43Speaker 1: I was, yeah, I can't seriously, Wow, how did you
- 5:47Speaker 1: get into pageanting?
- 5:49Speaker 3: Well, I remember I was like thirteen and I got
- 5:52Speaker 3: a card in the mail for the Miss Perfect Teen pageant,
- 5:57Speaker 3: And at that time I was like starting, like I
- 6:00Speaker 3: really wanted a model, I wanted to do stuff. And
- 6:04Speaker 3: I got the card in the mail and my parents,
- 6:06Speaker 3: my dad was like no. And then the next year
- 6:09Speaker 3: I came again. The next year, I enlisted the help
- 6:11Speaker 3: of my cousin Anthony. I was like, you got to
- 6:13Speaker 3: convince them to let me do this, and at that
- 6:16Speaker 3: point I was like fifteen, actually, and so I did
- 6:19Speaker 3: it and I won Miss Massachusetts perfecteen.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I can't imagine.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I imagine it putting that title on a pageant now,
- 6:26Speaker 1: I would never write no way.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Yeah, so I was perfectly.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Dad happy once he won. He's proud, of course, like
- 6:33Speaker 2: we went.
- 6:33Speaker 3: It was the first time we won. And then we
- 6:35Speaker 3: went to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the national competition.
- 6:39Speaker 3: I think I came in like third or something there.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Wow.
- 6:43Speaker 3: And then eventually I did Miss mass Teen USA and
- 6:46Speaker 3: did that, and so yeah, that was kind of the
- 6:49Speaker 3: entry point.
- 6:50Speaker 2: And then in college, that's when your career started really
- 6:53Speaker 2: taking off in the TV world.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Right, so I feel like everything is like baby steps, right,
- 7:01Speaker 3: Like how does a Greek girl from you know, parents
- 7:05Speaker 3: who are immigrants make it? I don't know. You just
- 7:07Speaker 3: make one move after another. So the pageants were, you know,
- 7:10Speaker 3: a great entry point. Started doing some commercial work and
- 7:14Speaker 3: things like that, and then in college I was really
- 7:17Speaker 3: studying journalism and film and worked on a movie with
- 7:21Speaker 3: my now husband Kevin. That really was the launching pad,
- 7:25Speaker 3: like you know, when my classmates didn't want to work
- 7:28Speaker 3: for free and I did well. Then somebody I met
- 7:30Speaker 3: on the movie helped me get my big break in
- 7:32Speaker 3: LA at Channel one News.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Wow.
- 7:34Speaker 3: So I didn't finish my last year of college because
- 7:36Speaker 3: I ended up getting that job.
- 7:38Speaker 1: And you and Kevin your husband, now I believe I
- 7:42Speaker 1: him correct, You started dating in college and your father
- 7:45Speaker 1: was not pleased. And you already said that your Greek.
- 7:47Speaker 1: You have a very strong Greek heritage background, right, Yeah,
- 7:52Speaker 1: my dad was.
- 7:54Speaker 3: I think it was more like he was like freaked
- 7:58Speaker 3: out that it could be having sex. I don't know,
- 8:00Speaker 3: like it was just very bad. It was a very
- 8:03Speaker 3: ugly time. So it was because he was in Greek
- 8:06Speaker 3: And yes, my dad was, you know, had his dream
- 8:10Speaker 3: of you know, me marrying a Greek person and that
- 8:12Speaker 3: whole scam.
- 8:13Speaker 1: But you love that moving, But do you love my
- 8:16Speaker 1: big fat Greek wedding? Doesn't love that doesn't but doesn't
- 8:21Speaker 1: resonate with you?
- 8:21Speaker 3: Is that, of course? With the whole world?
- 8:24Speaker 1: Ye, that's true.
- 8:25Speaker 2: That's true every Jewish, Yes, for sure. With all of
- 8:38Speaker 2: these jobs and all of these amazing things that you've done,
- 8:42Speaker 2: is there any one that's been your favorite? You've done,
- 8:44Speaker 2: commercial work, reality shows, radio work, all of it.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, listen, I love everything, which is why
- 8:53Speaker 3: I've done so many different things. I've wrestled, and so
- 8:56Speaker 3: I love to talking about that.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Okay, we talk about that. We have to.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, because jams can kind of understand what you're
- 9:02Speaker 1: saying right now.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Were you part of the WWE?
- 9:07Speaker 3: I am fourno on the WWE? I wrestled at WrestleMania Guys.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Mark Wahlberg was sitting front row and I watched his
- 9:16Speaker 3: mouth go, what are we? I'm like, God, why'd you even?
- 9:22Speaker 2: Who said? Marie? We have an idea? It was you?
- 9:24Speaker 2: I want to be a wrestling What what are you
- 9:27Speaker 2: talking about?
- 9:28Speaker 3: Inside scoop, I watched wrestling my whole life with my dad,
- 9:31Speaker 3: and so I was a diehard wrestling fan. I met Kevin,
- 9:34Speaker 3: who's also a diehard wrestling fan. When I first met
- 9:37Speaker 3: Kevin as a chubby nineteen year old at one point
- 9:41Speaker 3: when he you know, we were working on his movie.
- 9:43Speaker 3: He lost, his movie went bankrupt. The whole world caved
- 9:47Speaker 3: in on him. He was going to go potentially work
- 9:50Speaker 3: with the WWE, and he was like, you could wrestle,
- 9:53Speaker 3: all right? It was like great, So he went and
- 9:56Speaker 3: he met with Shane McMahon and he met with you
- 10:00Speaker 3: know them over there. I think he even had FaceTime
- 10:02Speaker 3: Evince at the time. And my job at Channel one
- 10:07Speaker 3: came in the interim, and so that never even came
- 10:10Speaker 3: to fruition. So we left and we moved to LA
- 10:13Speaker 3: But then the dream to wrestle was still there, so
- 10:15Speaker 3: then let me finish. So then flash forward years later,
- 10:19Speaker 3: I was telling my publicist because they started having Monday
- 10:22Speaker 3: Night Raw guest hosts. I said, you got to get
- 10:25Speaker 3: me in. I have to do this, And so he
- 10:29Speaker 3: calls me like a month after that meeting. Meanwhile, he
- 10:32Speaker 3: had not made one call yet, and he's like, you're
- 10:34Speaker 3: not going to believe this. I didn't even call them.
- 10:36Speaker 3: They called us. They want you to do it. I said, great,
- 10:39Speaker 3: on one condition, I want to wrestle. They didn't take
- 10:42Speaker 3: me seriously. They thought I was you know, and by
- 10:45Speaker 3: the way, WW is such a machine, they don't have
- 10:46Speaker 3: time to worry about Maria wrestling or whatever. So I
- 10:50Speaker 3: went and I hired a coach. I started doing backyard
- 10:53Speaker 3: wrestling and learning. I showed up for that guest host appearance.
- 10:57Speaker 3: I'm like, I know how to wrestle, let's go, and
- 11:01Speaker 3: they created something on the fly, and from there I
- 11:05Speaker 3: knew how to taunt the audience as a fan, so
- 11:07Speaker 3: I taunted the audience. I taunted the other wrestlers and
- 11:10Speaker 3: it became a thing that led to WrestleMania, and it
- 11:14Speaker 3: was the first time the women got airtime on TV.
- 11:19Speaker 3: It was a big deal. And I was doing Dancing
- 11:22Speaker 3: with the Stars at the same time. So I had
- 11:23Speaker 3: cracked ribs, fractured feet. I was a hot mess. But
- 11:26Speaker 3: I had to go and I did it, and it
- 11:29Speaker 3: was one of the highlights of my life for sure.
- 11:32Speaker 3: And then the other favorite thing I've done was like
- 11:34Speaker 3: Nightly News for sure.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Ria, but your face, I would have never if we
- 11:39Speaker 1: had been friends back then, I would have never allowed
- 11:42Speaker 1: for such a thing.
- 11:43Speaker 2: You could really get hurt. No, right hurt. Look at
- 11:46Speaker 2: her face? Who does that?
- 11:48Speaker 3: I'm dead? I said, okay, you know I said that
- 11:50Speaker 3: to Daria Baronatto, who's now Sonya Deville and WWE. When
- 11:55Speaker 3: she first came to After Buzz as one of our hosts.
- 11:58Speaker 3: We went to Aronda Rosie the UFC fight and we
- 12:01Speaker 3: were sitting in the booth and I go, you are
- 12:04Speaker 3: too pretty to be fighting and having people punch you
- 12:07Speaker 3: in the face. We out you and then long story short,
- 12:11Speaker 3: I'm in a meeting with USA Network for tough Enough,
- 12:14Speaker 3: no for something for general, and they're like, you should
- 12:16Speaker 3: do tough enough. I'm like, no, but I know who's perfect.
- 12:19Speaker 3: And then she did that and ended up launching her
- 12:21Speaker 3: whole career, which is so cool. So she made the shift. Wow.
- 12:25Speaker 2: So dancing with them? What's easier dancing with the stars
- 12:28Speaker 2: or WWA or what's harder? I can't imagine. Both of
- 12:32Speaker 2: them are so out of my realm of what I
- 12:34Speaker 2: possibly can do.
- 12:36Speaker 3: They're both really hard wrestlers, really have a hard life.
- 12:41Speaker 3: I mean they're traveling three hundred and sixty days a
- 12:43Speaker 3: year by rental car and you know, the whole thing.
- 12:47Speaker 3: I mean, the what they put their bodies through is
- 12:49Speaker 3: so intense. I have the utmost respect for them, which
- 12:52Speaker 3: is why I think I did so well with them,
- 12:54Speaker 3: because they knew I wasn't just, you know, there for
- 12:57Speaker 3: any other reason. I really respect them and their craft
- 13:00Speaker 3: and dancing.
- 13:01Speaker 2: My god, when I.
- 13:02Speaker 3: First started had the video, I couldn't put you know,
- 13:04Speaker 3: two steps together. Derek had, you know, a definite project
- 13:08Speaker 3: player on his hands. But you know, the cool thing
- 13:11Speaker 3: in my life is I've I love challenges. I love
- 13:15Speaker 3: living in that moment of like terror and like am
- 13:18Speaker 3: I gonna be Okay? Am I gonna be? Okay?
- 13:20Speaker 1: Okay?
- 13:22Speaker 3: We did all right? All right?
- 13:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm so glad you said that.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yeah you said someone like you that you don't get
- 13:28Speaker 1: scared of. Yeah. Well, I was going to say, like,
- 13:30Speaker 1: I don't want to be this cheesy transition, right, but like,
- 13:33Speaker 1: clearly you're a fighter, and you know, I'm sure we're
- 13:35Speaker 1: going to talk about your health challenges. But when I
- 13:39Speaker 1: was reading what I was reading about you, even going
- 13:41Speaker 1: back to your childhood, what struck me was that you
- 13:45Speaker 1: grew up with a father with Type one diabetes, and
- 13:48Speaker 1: I have a daughter with type one diabetes. So I
- 13:51Speaker 1: know a lot about how difficult that can be, but
- 13:56Speaker 1: I'm sure most of our listeners don't know. But type
- 13:58Speaker 1: one diabetes is way more It's still a bitch, but
- 14:00Speaker 1: it's way more manageable now. So going back that many years,
- 14:04Speaker 1: I'm there were no pumps, there were no sensors, right,
- 14:07Speaker 1: So it was life and very life and death. And
- 14:12Speaker 1: I was reading about how often your father would have
- 14:15Speaker 1: low blood sugar and how often he was, you know,
- 14:18Speaker 1: on the verge of death and you had to be tough.
- 14:21Speaker 1: How old were you when he first was diagnosed.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Oh, he was diagnosed when he was like twenty, way
- 14:27Speaker 3: before I wash, okaved, yeah, so it was my whole
- 14:29Speaker 3: life with him.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, okay, So I mean I'm I'm thinking you
- 14:34Speaker 1: know that already. Now you have a different type of
- 14:37Speaker 1: childhood starting there, and you obviously rose to all of
- 14:43Speaker 1: these occasions. But yeah, the fighting thing, the wrestling thing. Again,
- 14:48Speaker 1: I didn't want to sound cheesy, so I'm glad you
- 14:49Speaker 1: said it, but you clearly enjoy a fight.
- 14:52Speaker 2: So the one job aspect that we do have in
- 14:55Speaker 2: common was the reality show. Yeah, yeah, unfortunately, yes, right,
- 15:00Speaker 2: so your reality show it was called Chasing Briam and
- 15:03Speaker 2: you know, sorry, did you enjoy it? Do you like
- 15:05Speaker 2: sharing your did you have to share your whole life?
- 15:08Speaker 3: You know that was such a tough thing because I
- 15:13Speaker 3: had no problem sharing. The problem is they were so
- 15:16Speaker 3: fake about it. They had like their agenda of what
- 15:19Speaker 3: they wanted, which was marriage and babies, and that was
- 15:23Speaker 3: my dad's dream. That's all he wanted at the time.
- 15:26Speaker 3: And I said to them at one point, I go,
- 15:28Speaker 3: if my dad is sick of this, then that means
- 15:31Speaker 3: the audience is going to be totally sick of this.
- 15:35Speaker 3: So instead of allowing for reality to happen, which I
- 15:38Speaker 3: think is hard with budgetary constraints, I'm like, guys, we
- 15:41Speaker 3: are definitely full of stuff. And imagine if they had
- 15:45Speaker 3: been filming these last seven years. There was so much
- 15:48Speaker 3: stuff that had gone on. But they were the I guess,
- 15:52Speaker 3: the plan you know, laid out was just very restrictive
- 15:55Speaker 3: and so it wasn't as fun as I thought. The
- 16:00Speaker 3: one good thing is is I do I do have
- 16:02Speaker 3: my family on camera, and it was it was fun
- 16:07Speaker 3: to be with my parents a little bit more than
- 16:09Speaker 3: I would have at that time because we had to
- 16:11Speaker 3: squeeze in filming. But but but I do think that
- 16:19Speaker 3: Jackie's like, I think about that for you, because you
- 16:21Speaker 3: have your kids forever, you know, right, I have toes
- 16:25Speaker 3: that I'll ever be able to watch back, you know,
- 16:28Speaker 3: for all the good and the bad.
- 16:30Speaker 2: You don't find the time and the energy. How do
- 16:34Speaker 2: you find the time for all of for all of it?
- 16:39Speaker 3: I mean before I was just a human doing. That's
- 16:41Speaker 3: why I said, I'm like the brain tumor came to
- 16:43Speaker 3: make me a human being. I was just a human doing.
- 16:46Speaker 3: I was just a machine NonStop. And I think when
- 16:50Speaker 3: you grow up the way I did. I just had
- 16:55Speaker 3: someone on my show on Heel Squad talking about how
- 16:57Speaker 3: we're high functioning codependence and hfc's are just really good
- 17:02Speaker 3: in crisis. We're really good at solving everything. And you know,
- 17:08Speaker 3: I grew up not speaking the language. I had to
- 17:10Speaker 3: be my parents interpreter. I was first gen had to
- 17:14Speaker 3: literally revive and save my dad on the regular. We
- 17:17Speaker 3: were always in fight or flight and you know, we
- 17:22Speaker 3: you know, had some really rough times financially as well.
- 17:27Speaker 3: So I think that when I made it in this business,
- 17:31Speaker 3: I found it to be such a blessing. I was like,
- 17:33Speaker 3: my God, I'm making more money than my parents ever
- 17:35Speaker 3: could have dreamed of. How could I say no? And
- 17:39Speaker 3: how could I not go for every opportunity and do everything?
- 17:45Speaker 3: And so yeah, that's what I did, and then got
- 17:48Speaker 3: through a brick at my head and then said, let's recalibrate.
- 18:00Speaker 1: So you, guys, I just want to make sure that
- 18:02Speaker 1: our viewers understand a little bit even more about your background.
- 18:07Speaker 1: But your mom had a brain tumor. I hope it's okay.
- 18:12Speaker 2: I'm sure.
- 18:12Speaker 1: I'm thinking it's okay. I know you're very open about
- 18:15Speaker 1: your struggle. It is okay. So your mom had had
- 18:18Speaker 1: a malignant brain tumor. And was it a year later
- 18:23Speaker 1: that you were diagnosed as well with a brain tumor? Month?
- 18:26Speaker 2: But a nine one months? I mean, wow, it's mind growing. Yeah,
- 18:31Speaker 2: So what was that that whole time period? Were you
- 18:35Speaker 2: working through it? Were you? Well?
- 18:37Speaker 3: It was crazy because my mom was diagnosed beginning of
- 18:41Speaker 3: September twenty sixteen with a malignant brain tumor called glioblastoma
- 18:45Speaker 3: stage four brain cancer, one of the deadliest cancers you
- 18:49Speaker 3: can get. Oh gosh, don't ask. I have no freaking clue.
- 18:55Speaker 3: This was twenty sixteen. Someone do the mau Yeah, thirty
- 19:00Speaker 3: thirty eight, thirty nine something like that. Anyway, I was
- 19:03Speaker 3: working at E News at the time, and now I'm
- 19:05Speaker 3: trying to like and serious X, I'm trying to keep
- 19:08Speaker 3: all the masters happy while I'm also trying to keep
- 19:10Speaker 3: my mom alive. And I thought the headaches I was
- 19:16Speaker 3: getting and the pain I was having and the fatigue
- 19:20Speaker 3: was all due to the stress of my mom. And
- 19:25Speaker 3: then I started learning my speech and then I was
- 19:28Speaker 3: needing second takes and I was like one take, Maria,
- 19:30Speaker 3: Like what the heck's going on? And then I started
- 19:33Speaker 3: having really bad ear pain. And so the ear pain
- 19:37Speaker 3: took me to the doctor because I'm like, do I
- 19:38Speaker 3: have an ear infection? At thirty something like this is crazy?
- 19:41Speaker 3: And he was like, you don't have an ear infection?
- 19:43Speaker 3: What else are you feeling? Well? Once I started rattling
- 19:45Speaker 3: off all those symptoms, He's like, I go, oh my god,
- 19:48Speaker 3: and he's like what I go, I think I have
- 19:50Speaker 3: a brain tumor, Like my mom, isn't that crazy? Just
- 19:53Speaker 3: saying it right now, I'm reminded of how crazy that was.
- 19:56Speaker 3: And he's like, I don't think you're crazy. Let's just
- 19:59Speaker 3: get MRI to rule it out, and then the MRI
- 20:02Speaker 3: said I had a brain tumor. Now luckily mine appeared
- 20:06Speaker 3: to be benign, but they were like, we don't know,
- 20:10Speaker 3: but mine. Also when I talked to her the same neurosurgeon.
- 20:13Speaker 3: When I call the neurosurgeon, doctor Keith Black's office, I
- 20:16Speaker 3: was like, I need an appointment. They're like, oh, okay,
- 20:18Speaker 3: so what time can your mom came? I go, no, no, no,
- 20:20Speaker 3: it's for me and they were shook. I said, so,
- 20:24Speaker 3: surely this is going to be an easier surgery than
- 20:26Speaker 3: my mom's and he was like, nope, this is way
- 20:29Speaker 3: more complicated. Wow.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Is that hereditary or coincidental?
- 20:33Speaker 3: Totally coincidental. I believe it was the IVF that did
- 20:37Speaker 3: this because when I was doing IVF. First of all,
- 20:40Speaker 3: at some point we're going to learn how dangerous IVF is.
- 20:44Speaker 3: I'm not against it obviously because I have a beautiful
- 20:47Speaker 3: baby because of it, but I do always tell people
- 20:50Speaker 3: to get a scan before you do anything, to see
- 20:53Speaker 3: if there's anything that will grow. The reason my neurosurgeon
- 20:57Speaker 3: wouldn't let me get pregnant is he was afraid when
- 21:00Speaker 3: you get hormones going, things grows when right, So I
- 21:05Speaker 3: unknowingly might have had the brain tumor in my head
- 21:08Speaker 3: all this time, or maybe it came out of nowhere.
- 21:10Speaker 3: I don't know, But all I know is when I
- 21:12Speaker 3: was taking those progesterone shots, I called my doctor and
- 21:16Speaker 3: I said, I want to drive my car through a
- 21:18Speaker 3: brick wall and I was my head was exploding, and
- 21:23Speaker 3: she was like, stop the progesterone. And that was I
- 21:27Speaker 3: think months before I finished, months before I was diagnosed,
- 21:32Speaker 3: I had finished my last IVF cycle, So I think
- 21:35Speaker 3: the hormones grew it. So I always tell my girlfriends
- 21:38Speaker 3: and now all of you, because it's really sketchy to
- 21:41Speaker 3: like go out in public and say this stuff. I
- 21:43Speaker 3: feel like people like get really like freaked out and upset.
- 21:46Speaker 3: But secretly, behind the scenes, I always tell my friends,
- 21:49Speaker 3: if you are going to do IVF, find a way
- 21:52Speaker 3: to get a skin and make sure that nothing's going
- 21:54Speaker 3: to grow, because these hormones have the potential to grow things.
- 21:59Speaker 1: They say that about right now, So I'm not I'm
- 22:01Speaker 1: way past the time to get pregnant, but I'm in
- 22:06Speaker 1: that phase of menopause where you take hormones. You take
- 22:10Speaker 1: estrogen right to make you feel better with in terms
- 22:13Speaker 1: of what's going on with your body during menopause. And
- 22:16Speaker 1: then I think it's sort of the same idea, right,
- 22:19Speaker 1: Like it's a very it's a balancing act and it's
- 22:22Speaker 1: a risk versus reward because you know, hormones can if
- 22:26Speaker 1: I don't know what, they can actually cause cancer, but
- 22:29Speaker 1: they can grow cancer from what I understand.
- 22:33Speaker 2: So and doctors don't tell you that I had five
- 22:35Speaker 2: rounds of IVF myself.
- 22:36Speaker 3: They don't tell you, and you wouldn't know that metals
- 22:39Speaker 3: stuff like, you wouldn't know. And then also the other
- 22:42Speaker 3: thing that's crazy is nobody knows that you can actually
- 22:45Speaker 3: do natural realms. So it's a much less expensive thing too,
- 22:50Speaker 3: which they don't want you to really know about. But
- 22:53Speaker 3: my IVF doctor, doctor Wennie Chang, who is amazing, told
- 22:57Speaker 3: me that it was possible. So if you have follicle naturally,
- 23:01Speaker 3: you can just do a trigger shot and go in
- 23:05Speaker 3: for your your removal. You just have to time everything carefully.
- 23:10Speaker 3: But there is a way to do natural cycles to
- 23:13Speaker 3: avoid all of those shots.
- 23:17Speaker 1: I hope that a lot of women are listening.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I hope that you know. You know, I always
- 23:23Speaker 2: say that you have to advocate for yourself at these
- 23:24Speaker 2: doctors appointments, because they really some doctors do not do
- 23:28Speaker 2: a great job. But anyway, So, so you you're diagnosed
- 23:31Speaker 2: with this brain tumor, they find that it's benign, you
- 23:34Speaker 2: have surgery.
- 23:35Speaker 3: To reveals whether it's benign or not. So yeah, so
- 23:39Speaker 3: they removed it as much as they could because there's
- 23:45Speaker 3: a tumor that's there's still tumor in there that's wrapped
- 23:49Speaker 3: around my facial nerves. So if he tried to get
- 23:52Speaker 3: rid of it, I would have been paralyzed. So he
- 23:54Speaker 3: left it alone, thank god.
- 23:58Speaker 2: So yeah, and so do you have any remaining Yeah,
- 24:03Speaker 2: there's stuff that I fee.
- 24:07Speaker 3: But I manage it. And I've been doing a lot
- 24:10Speaker 3: of things like lightning my mind talks and load has
- 24:15Speaker 3: been helpful. Meditation has been helpful. I'm experimenting every day
- 24:21Speaker 3: with stuff to to heal and get better.
- 24:24Speaker 1: I am. It occurs to me that I know I
- 24:28Speaker 1: have known some people with brain tumors and malignant or not.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Brain surgery is a very very serious kind of surgery.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I don't think you know, it's not just like Okay,
- 24:40Speaker 1: we're going to go in and take it out. When
- 24:42Speaker 1: it comes to the brain, it's and you can if
- 24:45Speaker 1: I'm not right, but I think it's very very tricky
- 24:48Speaker 1: and very very risky, and so I just that hits
- 24:54Speaker 1: me because you've just gone through a lot of stuff.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Yeah, that was an eight hour surgery.
- 24:58Speaker 2: No, that one.
- 24:59Speaker 3: Was six and a half I think, And then the
- 25:03Speaker 3: pancreas surgery was like eight.
- 25:05Speaker 2: After your brain tumor comes out and you're recovering, then
- 25:10Speaker 2: you get thrown another health Yeah.
- 25:12Speaker 3: Well, I was feeling something. I was getting really bloated.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Things weren't right. I was like, something's off somehow predicted
- 25:22Speaker 3: on my own show. An audience member later was like,
- 25:25Speaker 3: you predicted this in April before you were diagnosed. I'm
- 25:28Speaker 3: like what, And I listened and looked. I was like,
- 25:30Speaker 3: oh my god. But that's not pertinent to the story.
- 25:33Speaker 3: But the truth is is I knew something was wrong.
- 25:35Speaker 3: I kept investigating different diagnostic tests. They kept telling me
- 25:40Speaker 3: it was fine. I went to the doctor's buckled over
- 25:42Speaker 3: and excruciating pain, like unbelievable, unbearable pain. They told me
- 25:47Speaker 3: it was fine. And it was only until I got
- 25:49Speaker 3: this pernuvo scan that they found a tumor, a large
- 25:53Speaker 3: tumor on the tail of my pancreas. It's called the
- 25:56Speaker 3: neuroendocrine tumor. That's what Steve Jobs had and it had
- 26:02Speaker 3: doubled in size within two months of that scan, where
- 26:05Speaker 3: I went to the doctors and I was like, I'm
- 26:07Speaker 3: in so much pain?
- 26:09Speaker 1: And when when was this? This was last year and
- 26:13Speaker 1: it was you did the pernubo scan. Well you just
- 26:15Speaker 1: saw our listeners because I hear more and more about
- 26:17Speaker 1: people doing it. That's a full body.
- 26:20Speaker 3: It's a full body scan. Yeah, so they listen. It's
- 26:24Speaker 3: not it's not free, and it's not perfect, but they
- 26:29Speaker 3: saved my life when you know, traditional hospitals told me
- 26:35Speaker 3: I was fine and sent me home. This thing doubled
- 26:37Speaker 3: in size. Now where would I be by June if
- 26:40Speaker 3: from November to January it doubled And my baby was
- 26:44Speaker 3: due in June.
- 26:47Speaker 1: So wow, And now how old is Athena?
- 26:50Speaker 2: Now?
- 26:51Speaker 3: She's seventeen months next week?
- 26:54Speaker 2: Oh my goodness.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Wow?
- 26:56Speaker 2: Do you call her your miracle baby?
- 26:57Speaker 1: Right? She is?
- 26:58Speaker 2: I think I read that as yeah, wow, So your
- 27:04Speaker 2: your health journey now, are you in the clear? Are
- 27:09Speaker 2: you still battling?
- 27:11Speaker 3: You know, I'm in the clear in a lot of ways,
- 27:16Speaker 3: but like there's still stuff right, Like I was in
- 27:22Speaker 3: the Dominican Republic earlier this year because they thought they
- 27:26Speaker 3: found liver cancer, and I was like, I don't think
- 27:28Speaker 3: it's liver cancer. I think my body's just having a
- 27:30Speaker 3: hard time processing all these scans. People think scans are nebulous,
- 27:34Speaker 3: they're not. When you're getting gatolinium and you're getting CT scans,
- 27:37Speaker 3: these are very powerful, high radiation, highly toxic things. And yeah,
- 27:45Speaker 3: if you're doing one, that's fine, But I've had to
- 27:48Speaker 3: do so many and no one's really counting, and no
- 27:51Speaker 3: one's really paying attention, and so I was like, I
- 27:54Speaker 3: think my body's just having a hard time detoxing all
- 27:56Speaker 3: this out while I went to the dr and I
- 27:58Speaker 3: created this little health proto call of just sun and
- 28:02Speaker 3: grounding and sweating and sleeping, and they all shrunk in
- 28:06Speaker 3: two and a half weeks.
- 28:08Speaker 1: How in the world did you know that it wasn't
- 28:11Speaker 1: your liver? How would you be that in tune?
- 28:15Speaker 3: I am super intuitive, but I also I've learned over
- 28:20Speaker 3: these last seven years of this brain tumor experience and
- 28:23Speaker 3: stuff to listen. And I just felt I felt like
- 28:28Speaker 3: it didn't make any sense, and I didn't feel like
- 28:31Speaker 3: it was true, because yeah, I just didn't. So I
- 28:36Speaker 3: was like, I'm just going to go experiment, and I
- 28:38Speaker 3: know the equator is really healing from everything I've studied
- 28:40Speaker 3: and my natural path that's been on my show a
- 28:42Speaker 3: lot that's helped me through a lot, and I was
- 28:46Speaker 3: really pleased, obviously with the results. And so when you
- 28:49Speaker 3: say are you healed, I mean I still have a
- 28:52Speaker 3: brain tumor. I still have lesions on my liver, like
- 28:57Speaker 3: two new ones popped up, we just found, and I'm like,
- 29:00Speaker 3: I'm looking at Kevin. I'm like, but I'm not scared.
- 29:02Speaker 3: I think I'm fine. He goes, I think you're fine too,
- 29:04Speaker 3: And so I just think, again, these scans that I
- 29:09Speaker 3: got before now have accumulated. So it's it's a thing,
- 29:16Speaker 3: and so I'm constantly working on it. I'm using my
- 29:18Speaker 3: red light and my sauna and my sun and my
- 29:22Speaker 3: grounding and my fashion release exercises. I'm like, as as
- 29:26Speaker 3: much as I can devote each day to my healing
- 29:31Speaker 3: and my health. It's important obviously because I need to
- 29:35Speaker 3: be around for my baby. But I know I'm vibrant
- 29:38Speaker 3: and healthy. I know a lot of this doesn't make sense.
- 29:41Speaker 3: The diabetes actually broke my heart and threw me on
- 29:45Speaker 3: the floor because I think I have so much trauma
- 29:50Speaker 3: with that. Like the brain tumor was easy in a sense,
- 29:52Speaker 3: Like I did have moments where like the mac truck
- 29:55Speaker 3: rolled over my chest and I'm like, oh my god,
- 29:57Speaker 3: someone's gonna saw my head open. But I watched my
- 30:00Speaker 3: mom go in with a smile and I was like, Okay,
- 30:02Speaker 3: I'm good. I'm in great hands. There's nobody better than
- 30:05Speaker 3: doctor Black. And the diabetes killed me because I had
- 30:10Speaker 3: quit sugar two years before, and I it just didn't
- 30:16Speaker 3: make any sense all this shit.
- 30:18Speaker 2: I was like, I don't know.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I just want everybody to understand. I don't understand it
- 30:24Speaker 1: all everything you're saying. I understand this part of it
- 30:28Speaker 1: that is type one diabetes. And I want you guys
- 30:30Speaker 1: to understand that that in itself is an every day
- 30:34Speaker 1: on your mind.
- 30:34Speaker 2: I know this.
- 30:35Speaker 1: I'll cry too, because it's like that in and of
- 30:37Speaker 1: itself is so hard, and then you have all of
- 30:42Speaker 1: this other stuff. You are my absolute new hero. You
- 30:46Speaker 1: have to be my friend, our friend.
- 30:49Speaker 2: You must. You are so I'm so proud of you.
- 30:52Speaker 3: Maria.
- 30:52Speaker 2: What's your energy level like has it affected like.
- 30:58Speaker 3: It's been so hard at different time times like to
- 31:01Speaker 3: be honest, but right now it's been it's on the upswing,
- 31:07Speaker 3: and so that's been really exciting. I mean, doctor Allison
- 31:11Speaker 3: and I have done so much work that I feel
- 31:13Speaker 3: like I have more energy than I ever have. So
- 31:16Speaker 3: that's been really good.
- 31:18Speaker 2: You know.
- 31:19Speaker 3: I say, I kind of have to pitch a perfect
- 31:20Speaker 3: game with my health, like I can't. I don't have
- 31:23Speaker 3: a lot of wiggle room because I have to. I
- 31:27Speaker 3: have to really heal from all these things and they
- 31:29Speaker 3: are healable. Like even when they found the breast lesion.
- 31:32Speaker 3: I went back to doctor Funk and she goes, it's shrunk.
- 31:35Speaker 3: I was like, yes, because I focused in my meditations
- 31:38Speaker 3: on it shrinking. So I keep getting success even though
- 31:42Speaker 3: there's so much shit that pops up and it's felt
- 31:44Speaker 3: like whack a mole. I know how to heal, and
- 31:47Speaker 3: I believe in my healing and Saint Nctarios, our healing saint,
- 31:50Speaker 3: has been so good to me.
- 31:52Speaker 2: So I need to write that down.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Star Saint Niktarios Nectar Nectarios. Okay, he is the healing
- 32:01Speaker 3: saint in the Greek Orthodox Church, but he will heal
- 32:03Speaker 3: anyone who believes in him, and I've had so many
- 32:07Speaker 3: miraculous moments of healing, whether it's me, my mom, my friends.
- 32:12Speaker 3: I wear my bracelet that I got at his church
- 32:15Speaker 3: in Aegina, Greece, which is an island just south of Athens,
- 32:20Speaker 3: and so ever since he's come into my life, like
- 32:24Speaker 3: so much good has happened, and I know that the
- 32:27Speaker 3: it looks like so much bad has happened too. And listen,
- 32:32Speaker 3: it's not been easy, but I do believe that it's
- 32:36Speaker 3: happened for me, not to me. And I do believe
- 32:40Speaker 3: that it's happened to me because I can figure it
- 32:43Speaker 3: out and I can heal and I can show other
- 32:46Speaker 3: people how to do it, and I do that through
- 32:48Speaker 3: my show every day.
- 32:50Speaker 2: So you know what a mindset. It's unbelievable. You know.
- 32:55Speaker 2: They say that like you could have a million problems
- 32:57Speaker 2: until something happens with your health and then you have
- 32:59Speaker 2: one problem. There is just no there's no way around it.
- 33:03Speaker 2: You are my hero.
- 33:13Speaker 1: I've had people in my life that have been you know,
- 33:17Speaker 1: they've been, they've gotten sick, they've had kids. I have
- 33:20Speaker 1: friends whose kids have gotten sick.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Nobody.
- 33:23Speaker 1: I always say this to my daughter, who has Type
- 33:25Speaker 1: one I'm like, you know, nobody gets away, and I
- 33:27Speaker 1: just I'm much talking about health issues. No one gets away.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Everyone has got their stuff, and hopefully we all deal
- 33:34Speaker 1: with the cards we are dealt with, you know, we
- 33:37Speaker 1: can actually turn them into something productive. You wanting to
- 33:41Speaker 1: inspire people, you know and say, what did you just say?
- 33:43Speaker 2: It happened?
- 33:44Speaker 3: Happened to me?
- 33:46Speaker 1: I absolutely absolutely love that. But you know, tell us
- 33:51Speaker 1: something good, tell us.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Let's tell us, let's pivot a hard pivot and talk
- 33:54Speaker 2: about this Christmas movie. Now, I'm a Jewish girl. I
- 33:57Speaker 2: love Christmas. Me friends all love it too, so I
- 34:03Speaker 2: just get this feeling. I remember sitting in the movie theater.
- 34:06Speaker 2: I was single. It was like two thousand and six.
- 34:08Speaker 2: I was like, I'm never going to meet newbody, and
- 34:10Speaker 2: I was watching that movie Love Actually yeah, my husband
- 34:16Speaker 2: a few months later, but I was like, I just
- 34:18Speaker 2: nothing makes me feel better than a Christmas movie, Christmas
- 34:21Speaker 2: general issues. Please.
- 34:23Speaker 3: Well, I'll tell you. The Christmas movies came at the
- 34:27Speaker 3: perfect time because it was on my bucket list to
- 34:30Speaker 3: do one, and it was because of my mom that
- 34:34Speaker 3: I got in the first one. Because I had made
- 34:36Speaker 3: this like little video on YouTube of our journey caretaking
- 34:41Speaker 3: for her in her last months. And my friend Ryan McPartland,
- 34:45Speaker 3: who is a Christmas movie star amongst other amazing things
- 34:49Speaker 3: like chuck and stuff, but he was making one just
- 34:51Speaker 3: down the street in Connecticut, so he connected with me
- 34:54Speaker 3: to tell me how moved he was by this peace
- 34:56Speaker 3: I put together. And then I ended up as his
- 34:59Speaker 3: sister in this, and then the director of that called
- 35:01Speaker 3: me to start in the next one, which came out
- 35:04Speaker 3: two years ago, and then he called me for this
- 35:06Speaker 3: one that we shot in London. So funny you talk
- 35:09Speaker 3: about love, Actually we shot ours in London, so you're
- 35:13Speaker 3: not really used to seeing, you know, these holiday movies
- 35:17Speaker 3: on Lifetime, et cetera, where they're set in London. There's
- 35:21Speaker 3: I think only two Christmas movies set there. So you're
- 35:24Speaker 3: going to get the most amazing British feels, the accents,
- 35:27Speaker 3: the charm.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Are you British in it? Do you have to have
- 35:30Speaker 1: put on the absent?
- 35:32Speaker 3: No, thank god, because that would take a little bit
- 35:33Speaker 3: of work because my accent ain't great. But but I've
- 35:38Speaker 3: worked on it the whole time there. But I play
- 35:41Speaker 3: an architect, like a New York City architect who, unknownst
- 35:45Speaker 3: to her had this great aunt that left her a
- 35:48Speaker 3: manner and she has one week she has to spend
- 35:52Speaker 3: there before she can make the decision of keeping it
- 35:54Speaker 3: or getting rid of it. And she's like, you know,
- 35:56Speaker 3: the super type A, it's all about her career. She
- 35:58Speaker 3: shows up there, she sees a whole other lifestyle, you know,
- 36:02Speaker 3: a life where like community and events and you know, Christmas,
- 36:06Speaker 3: you know, Carol of the Bell, events and stuff are
- 36:09Speaker 3: the main focus. And she ends up falling in love
- 36:13Speaker 3: and sees a whole other path for life. And I
- 36:17Speaker 3: feel like a lot of us need to to kind
- 36:21Speaker 3: of see it for a few reasons. One like, listen,
- 36:25Speaker 3: we love holiday movies, and this one I think will
- 36:28Speaker 3: make you have all the holiday feels. And I know
- 36:32Speaker 3: for me, with everything that we've gone through, these have
- 36:34Speaker 3: been great escapes. And there are hard times out there.
- 36:37Speaker 3: People are really suffering, and that's why we love watching these.
- 36:40Speaker 3: But the other thing is is like for all of
- 36:42Speaker 3: us kind of type A high function and independence, some kidding,
- 36:46Speaker 3: all of us Type A women who kind of sometimes
- 36:51Speaker 3: forget that there's other things that matter other than just
- 36:54Speaker 3: business and making it and succeeding and buying more things.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Like are you listening to us.
- 37:00Speaker 1: We need us in particular, need to be hearing this. Yes, yes,
- 37:06Speaker 1: I know, but it's just it's so true because it's
- 37:08Speaker 1: so easy, especially in we were in reality television and
- 37:12Speaker 1: you forget all of a sudden, you're so caught up
- 37:15Speaker 1: in that world and all you know you need to
- 37:19Speaker 1: be reminded. But please, I'm sorry, go on.
- 37:21Speaker 3: Yeah. No, life is about more than that. And the
- 37:24Speaker 3: problem is is we've been born and bred into like achieved, succeed,
- 37:31Speaker 3: get good grades, get a huge job, make a lot
- 37:33Speaker 3: of money, and then maybe marriage and kids. Never health,
- 37:39Speaker 3: but everything's always an aside to money and success that's
- 37:44Speaker 3: always first. And so the great gift I think I've
- 37:48Speaker 3: gotten from all of the health crises is that there's
- 37:53Speaker 3: so much more to life. And I've been working actively
- 37:55Speaker 3: in the last seven years on redefining success from myself,
- 37:59Speaker 3: because we also define success by other people's standards, and
- 38:03Speaker 3: I caught myself doing that. I was chasing the people
- 38:07Speaker 3: who were working twenty four to seven and like all
- 38:09Speaker 3: this stuff, and I'm like, wait, this is so against
- 38:11Speaker 3: my nature. I don't care. Kevin's been trying to put
- 38:15Speaker 3: shows together with my name on it. This and that
- 38:18Speaker 3: I don't care. I just want to be happy. I
- 38:22Speaker 3: want to live. I want to cook something in my
- 38:24Speaker 3: kitchen with my family. I want to be present for
- 38:26Speaker 3: my baby. I want to work as little as possible,
- 38:33Speaker 3: but maintain as much as I can what I have now.
- 38:37Speaker 3: I don't need more. Like I remember meeting with a
- 38:41Speaker 3: friend who was, you know, really successful in business, Murray folio.
- 38:44Speaker 3: She's a business teacher, and we were talking about kind
- 38:47Speaker 3: of my next phase in life. This was two years ago,
- 38:49Speaker 3: and she's like, how much money do you want to
- 38:50Speaker 3: kind I'm like, I give her a number. It was
- 38:52Speaker 3: so low, and she goes, what I go, I don't care.
- 38:56Speaker 3: I just need to be healthy. That's all that matter.
- 39:00Speaker 3: But we don't ever realize it until shit hits the fans.
- 39:03Speaker 3: So I'm always I think that now more than ever,
- 39:06Speaker 3: and the millennials are doing this, the gen zers are
- 39:08Speaker 3: doing this. They're looking at our generation like we were
- 39:11Speaker 3: crazy people, workaholics, and they're going the other way. But
- 39:15Speaker 3: there's a happy medium, right.
- 39:17Speaker 2: They're getting a lot of slack for that too. They're
- 39:19Speaker 2: called a very lazy generation, a very like coddles. Well,
- 39:23Speaker 2: I think there is a happy medium.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Like we don't need to be chasing a
- 39:29Speaker 3: life that we didn't even want. And I think that
- 39:31Speaker 3: a lot of us chase a life we don't even want.
- 39:33Speaker 3: We're not really happy, We're like snappy and short and miserable.
- 39:38Speaker 3: I know, I remember, and it's not worth it.
- 39:43Speaker 2: It's just I mean, can you just change that by
- 39:45Speaker 2: changing your mindset? Because I think I have a little
- 39:46Speaker 2: of that, Like I want things so that I mean,
- 39:51Speaker 2: I'm not super in tune to what I want. I
- 39:54Speaker 2: sometimes I know that I want things that I don't
- 39:56Speaker 2: really deep down want, but I want other people to
- 39:58Speaker 2: see me doing them.
- 40:00Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, And I think that it really comes down
- 40:03Speaker 3: to you having like some time with yourself to be like,
- 40:05Speaker 3: what do I really want? What do I not want?
- 40:09Speaker 3: And how do I now get time with myself to
- 40:13Speaker 3: be more introspective? Like meditation has changed everything for me.
- 40:17Speaker 3: I'm not currently meditating the way I was. I'm about
- 40:21Speaker 3: to get back on track because we've been doing so
- 40:23Speaker 3: much here. But but I'll tell you like it, it
- 40:27Speaker 3: really is important to find the things that are going
- 40:31Speaker 3: to give you joy and happiness that don't cost anything.
- 40:34Speaker 3: Making that list and then realizing, well, like all these
- 40:38Speaker 3: things that I'm focusing my energy and attention on are
- 40:41Speaker 3: taking away from the things I really want. I really
- 40:42Speaker 3: want time with my family. I don't want to be
- 40:44Speaker 3: on my phone all the time. I want to be
- 40:47Speaker 3: able to go, you know, on fun adventures with my
- 40:51Speaker 3: with my kids, or with my friends. Or I don't
- 40:54Speaker 3: really care about the stupid new.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Chanelle bag like Ammen's sister.
- 40:57Speaker 3: I don't want to be robbed, so I don't buy
- 41:00Speaker 3: this stuff. I'm like at this point, like you're just
- 41:02Speaker 3: a target anyway, Like, let's let's put that into just
- 41:06Speaker 3: not having to work more so, less less of that stuff,
- 41:11Speaker 3: more peace.
- 41:12Speaker 2: If you ever want a new job, you could be
- 41:13Speaker 2: my life coach. Do you write?
- 41:15Speaker 1: Are you writing a book? I mean, I know you've
- 41:17Speaker 1: done enough and I shouldn't be pressuring you.
- 41:19Speaker 2: But you've written a book? You have.
- 41:22Speaker 3: I've written a few books, but but that was in
- 41:26Speaker 3: my crazy stage. You know, it's been really hard. I
- 41:28Speaker 3: had a book deal just before COVID didn't feel right,
- 41:31Speaker 3: so I passed. I do have a few in me,
- 41:37Speaker 3: but I really just want to be with Athena, and
- 41:39Speaker 3: so it's going to take a while before I have
- 41:41Speaker 3: a documentary. I've been in the middle of I'm like,
- 41:44Speaker 3: everything's just going to take a backseat to my health
- 41:46Speaker 3: and my baby, So you don't need.
- 41:49Speaker 1: To actually give us what we want them, because I've
- 41:51Speaker 1: got a list of things from.
- 41:52Speaker 3: You, I will tell you. Funny enough, I was just
- 41:55Speaker 3: on a meeting with one of my team members and
- 41:59Speaker 3: I was like, listen, and I finally think I have
- 42:01Speaker 3: the energy to put some things forward that I've wanted
- 42:04Speaker 3: to do, and I almost did last year, but then
- 42:07Speaker 3: the pancreast tumor derailed me. But one of my dreams
- 42:12Speaker 3: is to put health retreats together and take people on
- 42:16Speaker 3: this journey so that if you want to be healthier,
- 42:20Speaker 3: you'll learn the foundational health things that you need to learn.
- 42:24Speaker 3: But if you need to heal from something, we can
- 42:26Speaker 3: also teach you how to do that. I've also already
- 42:29Speaker 3: guinea piged myself. I've proven that the stuff works, and
- 42:33Speaker 3: doctor Allison, my partner, is the genius of all geniuses.
- 42:37Speaker 3: And then I want to also put a course together
- 42:42Speaker 3: for women to be able to do exactly what you
- 42:44Speaker 3: were just asking, figure out what you really want. I
- 42:49Speaker 3: got this weird downloading COVID and it was like coming
- 42:53Speaker 3: through so fast and I'm writing everything down, writing everything down,
- 42:57Speaker 3: I'm like, I need this and then I go me
- 43:00Speaker 3: this shit. So I was just on the phone with that.
- 43:02Speaker 3: I was like, if we can make this easy and
- 43:04Speaker 3: I can film this and it's a course and people
- 43:06Speaker 3: can just grab it and use it and do it,
- 43:08Speaker 3: I'm in. So I'm working on.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Going to pat those together. Jen and I want to
- 43:13Speaker 1: be deposit now.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Just tell us what's your bed And I am so
- 43:17Speaker 2: excited to see your holiday movie.
- 43:19Speaker 3: You can go to my Instagram and you'll find it
- 43:22Speaker 3: Christmas at Plumb Hill Manner. And then my podcast is
- 43:25Speaker 3: He'll Squad, so you guys can always.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Listen to them as well be listening.
- 43:30Speaker 1: And I hope that I don't know, I feel so
- 43:33Speaker 1: I don't want to put you on this weird pedestal
- 43:35Speaker 1: and if people do that a lot, and I don't
- 43:37Speaker 1: know if you would like that or not, but I'm
- 43:38Speaker 1: just I know, Jackie, we both are just in. Yeah,
- 43:41Speaker 1: you know, it's like we're all humans, we all struggle.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Nobody's I feel very much like my priorities get reset
- 43:47Speaker 2: when I meet someone like you and I listened to
- 43:49Speaker 2: you and you're very guyased. Yeah, and it's really been
- 43:52Speaker 2: an honor to speak to you.
- 43:53Speaker 3: Thank you guys, thank you so much. And if I
- 43:56Speaker 3: can be helpful with your daughter with Type one. I
- 44:00Speaker 3: learned to look at the equator, my blood sugar, you're
- 44:02Speaker 3: going down. It was crazy, really, Oh my god. I
- 44:05Speaker 3: was like lighting bread without having to take insulin. People
- 44:08Speaker 3: heal from diabetes at the equator, people heal from MS Parkinson's.
- 44:13Speaker 3: It's unbelievable.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know anything about this.
- 44:16Speaker 3: That's amazing.
- 44:17Speaker 1: If you wouldn't mind, then off camera we're gonna have
- 44:20Speaker 1: to have a little discussion because I would love to know.
- 44:22Speaker 3: Well. Also, if you go to heel squad dot com,
- 44:26Speaker 3: I took because Apple Podcasts doesn't organize the episodes that also,
- 44:31Speaker 3: you can't really find what you need easily when you've
- 44:33Speaker 3: done as many episodes as I have. But there's a
- 44:36Speaker 3: column called foundational Health. There's one for autoimmune, there's one
- 44:39Speaker 3: for cancer. Foundational Health. All those episodes will teach you
- 44:43Speaker 3: everything that I did to heal the liver lesions and
- 44:45Speaker 3: everything about the equator and how powerful it is. So
- 44:49Speaker 3: you can deep dive on the episodes that are connected
- 44:52Speaker 3: to specifically those themes on heel Squad dot com. They're
- 44:56Speaker 3: called healthy.
- 44:57Speaker 2: I think amazing. I was working. Yeah, thank you so much.
- 45:03Speaker 2: Wish know only good things and everything and happy holidays,
- 45:09Speaker 2: and I can't wait to watch Thanks Maria, Thank you Maria.
- 45:15Speaker 1: That was unbelievable. I feel like so freaked out and
- 45:19Speaker 1: not freaked out in the best way.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:21Speaker 1: I like to see this woman who is again, you're
- 45:23Speaker 1: probably the same age, right, I think she's a little
- 45:25Speaker 1: bit younger. She looks so young and well.
- 45:28Speaker 2: Her mindset is fucking amazing. I it makes me feel
- 45:35Speaker 2: nervous because I don't pay attention to my health nearly
- 45:38Speaker 2: as much.
- 45:39Speaker 1: When she said she did that scan, I forget. I
- 45:42Speaker 1: almost don't want to know. I'm very nervous. I know
- 45:45Speaker 1: everyone else, but anyway she is and inspiration doesn't seem
- 45:50Speaker 1: like I know.
- 45:51Speaker 2: It's amazing. I want to have that guy on. To
- 45:53Speaker 2: know yourself so well that someone could tell you that
- 45:56Speaker 2: you might have. If someone ever said the words liver
- 45:58Speaker 2: cancer to me, I would black out, and then my
- 46:01Speaker 2: entire life, every focus of every second of every day
- 46:04Speaker 2: would be about whether or not I.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Have liver cancer.
- 46:06Speaker 2: For her to intuitively know that it just doesn't feel
- 46:09Speaker 2: like I have that is fucking mind blowing into me.
- 46:13Speaker 2: How do you know yourself so well? I don't know.
- 46:16Speaker 1: You know, Jack, I'm a reaching hypochondriac, so I always
- 46:18Speaker 1: think I have everything, but I don't know. This woman
- 46:22Speaker 1: is amazing. I am definitely gonna watch her and Jackie Jacqueline.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Who's on Jackie Jackie? I know you got the name
- 46:31Speaker 1: of the new doctor that we want on the pod,
- 46:33Speaker 1: doctor Joe Dispensa.
- 46:35Speaker 2: I would love that game. I need to learn how
- 46:37Speaker 2: to do the things in life that I really authentically
- 46:40Speaker 2: want to do, which a lot of them. Listen, some
- 46:43Speaker 2: of the stuff I'm doing I do want to do,
- 46:44Speaker 2: and I love every second with my family. Career wise,
- 46:47Speaker 2: I'm not so sure what I really authentically want.
- 46:51Speaker 1: It so easy, we both struggle, we both have mental
- 46:53Speaker 1: health struggles. Yeah, and so yeah, nothing is easy. Everything
- 46:57Speaker 1: is a journey. But yeah, I mean, I hope a
- 47:00Speaker 1: ton of people listen to this.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Yeah, me too, me too. All right, guys on that note,
- 47:07Speaker 2: all right, we will see you next time.
- 47:10Speaker 1: I love you, guys. You jack Let me go you guys. Bye.
- 47:14Speaker 3: By
