- 0:01Speaker 1: Gospel reflection for the third day of November in the
- 0:04Speaker 1: year of our Lord 2026 and today's reading comes from
- 0:07Speaker 1: Luke chapter 14 verses 15 through 21. When one of
- 0:13Speaker 1: them that sat at the table with him had heard
- 0:16Speaker 1: these things he said to him blessed is he that
- 0:18Speaker 1: shall eat the bread in the kingdom of God. But
- 0:21Speaker 1: he said to him a certain man made a great
- 0:24Speaker 1: supper and invited many and he sent his servant to
- 0:27Speaker 1: at the hour of supper, to say to them that
- 0:29Speaker 1: were invited that they should come, for now all things
- 0:33Speaker 1: are ready. And they began all at once to make excuse.
- 0:36Speaker 1: They first said to him, I have bought a farm,
- 0:38Speaker 1: and I must needs go out and see it. I
- 0:41Speaker 1: pray thee, hold me excuse. Another said, I have bought
- 0:44Speaker 1: five yoke of oxen, and I go to try them.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I pray thee, hold me excuse. Another said, I have
- 0:49Speaker 1: married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. And the
- 0:52Speaker 1: servant returning told these things to his lord. Then the
- 0:55Speaker 1: master of the house, being angry, said to his servant,
- 0:58Speaker 1: Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the
- 1:00Speaker 1: city and bring in hither the poor and the feeble
- 1:03Speaker 1: and the blind and the lame. And the servant said, Lord,
- 1:06Speaker 1: it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there
- 1:09Speaker 1: is room. And the lord said to the servant, Go
- 1:12Speaker 1: out into the highways and hedges and compel them to
- 1:14Speaker 1: come in, that my house may be filled. But I
- 1:18Speaker 1: say unto you that none of those men that were
- 1:20Speaker 1: invited shall taste of my supper. How often do we
- 1:25Speaker 1: pause to realize just how amazingly blessed we are to
- 1:31Speaker 1: eat bread in the kingdom of God at every Mass?
- 1:36Speaker 1: For the Jews of Jesus' time, this was not even comprehensible.
- 1:39Speaker 1: They dreamed of a future heaven, but even the most
- 1:42Speaker 1: holy prophets existed in the limbo of the fathers. Although
- 1:45Speaker 1: they were happy, they were still separated from God, the
- 1:48Speaker 1: beatific vision, until Jesus opened the gates of heaven following
- 1:52Speaker 1: his crucifixion. I don't know about you, but I do
- 1:56Speaker 1: not often contemplate enough that we are truly in the
- 1:59Speaker 1: kingdom of heaven and that all the angels and saints
- 2:04Speaker 1: and even God himself is truly present right here with
- 2:07Speaker 1: us and in us at every holy mass. How can
- 2:12Speaker 1: human eyes perceive the reality of what is happening? How
- 2:15Speaker 1: can we understand that bread and wine becomes the body
- 2:17Speaker 1: and blood of God? Only through faith. Faith is belief
- 2:21Speaker 1: in things unseen. I believe because Jesus and his church
- 2:25Speaker 1: show me it's true. With childlike simplicity, I believe. I
- 2:29Speaker 1: do not fully understand or perceive it. If I did,
- 2:32Speaker 1: I probably would not be able to bear it. How
- 2:36Speaker 1: amazing is it that our Lord comes to us in
- 2:38Speaker 1: a way that we can accept him? The Old Testament
- 2:41Speaker 1: states that no one who sees the face of God
- 2:43Speaker 1: can live, yet Jesus came in human form and all
- 2:47Speaker 1: saw his face. Now he comes to us in such
- 2:49Speaker 1: a simple manner, that we cannot perceive except through the
- 2:54Speaker 1: eyes of faith. Blessed are we. Let us make every
- 2:58Speaker 1: possible effort to attend the Great Supper provided to us
- 3:01Speaker 1: by the Master at every possible opportunity. All right, y'all.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Have a good day, and I will talk to you tomorrow.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Go to Mass.
