Transcript
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to the Daily Rider.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: This is the podcast where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for writing success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: We've been talking a lot about habits here on the podcast lately, so let's for a moment talk about a habit that will boost your confidence and will also be good for your business too.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: And it's really simply this it's telling people that you are a writer.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Now, it sounds simple enough, doesn't it?
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: But you'd be surprised about how many aspiring and actual writers go to great lengths to hide the fact that they're a writer.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: And I encourage you to do exactly the opposite.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: I encourage you to broadcast it to the world that you are a writer.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Put it on your social media profiles, include the word writer in your email signature, and find ways to mention that you are a writer in everyday conversations.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: One thing that you'll notice if you look at my Facebook post, Facebook is where I'm typically most active, honestly, is that I often talk about ghostwriting and I often talk about writing, but I try not to do it in direct ways.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: I try to mention things about what I'm working on or talk about something I'm learning or talk about something I'm excited about related to a client project or podcast or my daily writer community or whatever it is.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: So I try to kind of advertise and market the fact that I am a writer.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: You know, I have books and I do client work and all that stuff, but I try to do it in indirect and hopefully interesting ways that adds value to people.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: So that may be a way that you can do the same thing as well.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: And I think just doing this alone, just telling people that you're a writer and mentioning it, this alone will give you motivation to stay true to your word and to actually write and to follow through on what you say that you're going to do.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: It'll also have some surprising benefits because people will start asking you what you're writing about.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: They'll say, Oh, I didn't know that you were a writer.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Tell me about your book project, or tell me about the kinds of writing you do, or tell me what you're interested in, what kind of stories or or what kind of authors do you like to read?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: The best marketing tools are often the cheapest and simplest ones.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And the only thing to be afraid of is your own success when you start living up to the image of being a writer that you already hold in your head.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: So take that image of a writer that you've got in your head of yourself and start telling people about it.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: And pretty soon the reality will start to match the image that you hold in your head of yourself.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: So here's a daily question Do you tell people that you're a writer?
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: And if you don't, I encourage you to do exactly that.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
