- 0:15Speaker 2: the Kraken certainly could use it.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Welcome to Cracking this.

- 0:57Speaker 3: Day off from practice on Friday.
- 0:59Speaker 2: So oh, we got a little bit more to recap
- 1:01Speaker 2: here as far as the Kraken and what they're trying
- 1:03Speaker 2: to recover from where we'll hear from head coach Lane
- 1:06Speaker 2: Lambert plus four Jared McCann after the Kraken fell to
- 1:10Speaker 2: the Edmonton Oilers nine to four at Rogers Place on Thursday,
- 1:15Speaker 2: setting a new mark for most goals given up by
- 1:18Speaker 2: the Kraken in one game, most power play goals also
- 1:22Speaker 2: given up in one game. That's four Lane Lambert Jared
- 1:26Speaker 2: McCann coming up in just a bit before that we
- 1:29Speaker 2: recap in this context, it's certainly a Knight the Kraken
- 1:34Speaker 2: had never seen before. They were facing an Edmonton team
- 1:38Speaker 2: playing as close to full strength as it gets, looking
- 1:41Speaker 2: for a shot of confidence, and the Kraken fighting an
- 1:44Speaker 2: uphill battle early on, found themselves down three to nothing
- 1:48Speaker 2: at one point in period one on goals from Conor McDavid,
- 1:51Speaker 2: Vasili Podkolzen and Leon Dreis Tidle, though the Kraken would
- 1:57Speaker 2: fight their way back into it. First off, it was
- 2:00Speaker 2: Ellie Tulvenen chipping in with a power play goal at
- 2:03Speaker 2: sixteen oh seven. After that, a new Kraken center was
- 2:08Speaker 2: looking to make his mark.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Here comes Seattle into the offensive zone of the high slot.
- 2:12Speaker 3: As Winterton forced.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Off the puck now turned over in front back ahead scos,
- 2:20Speaker 4: Freddy Gadreau forces the turnover undresses Calvin pickered out in front,
- 2:26Speaker 4: and the Seattle Crackhead pulled back to within one twenty
- 2:30Speaker 4: seven seconds to play in the first three to two
- 2:33Speaker 4: Edmonton well.
- 2:34Speaker 5: Freddy Gudreau showing why it's so important to go on
- 2:36Speaker 5: the attack on the on the fore check, and it
- 2:38Speaker 5: was Leon Dreichs title in the hash marks right in
- 2:41Speaker 5: front of his own goal that gave up that puck
- 2:43Speaker 5: to Freddy gadrou and it was a nice toe drag
- 2:46Speaker 5: move that he got skinnered to bite on, came back
- 2:49Speaker 5: against the grain, buried it in three quarters when opening.
- 2:52Speaker 2: At Freddie Gadreau picking up his first goal in a
- 2:55Speaker 2: krack in Jersey a quick strike off the takeaway, and
- 2:58Speaker 2: he picked up his first goal of the season as well,
- 3:01Speaker 2: coming in nineteen thirty three unassisted. The Cracking right back
- 3:05Speaker 2: into the game down by one and nearly tied it.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Before the first period.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Horn on a shot that leaked threw goaltender Calvin Pickard,
- 3:13Speaker 2: but it's defense backing him up able to clear the
- 3:17Speaker 2: puck and preserve Edmonton's lead at the end of one period.
- 3:21Speaker 2: The second period, though, was where this one got away
- 3:23Speaker 2: from the Krake in Edmonton, scoring three unanswered goals in
- 3:27Speaker 2: the first six minutes, plus Matt Savoy shorthanded McDavid's second
- 3:32Speaker 2: on the power play. Zach Hyman as well at a
- 3:35Speaker 2: fifty three, all the while a rough night ending for
- 3:38Speaker 2: Joey to Cord five goals and fourteen shots, replaced by
- 3:42Speaker 2: Philip Grubauer, Jared mccannon chipping in with one more goal
- 3:45Speaker 2: before the end of the period before Edmonton pulled away
- 3:48Speaker 2: in period three, Conor McDavid with his thirteenth career hat trick,
- 3:52Speaker 2: sandwiched by goals from mattis yan Mark and the second
- 3:56Speaker 2: of the game from Matt Savoy. Yannie Newman finishing up
- 4:00Speaker 2: the offensive side of things at nineteen fifty five with
- 4:03Speaker 2: his fourth goal of the season, but the game already
- 4:06Speaker 2: academic at that point and the Kraken left searching for
- 4:10Speaker 2: answers after giving up their most amount of goals in
- 4:13Speaker 2: one game in franchise history, and Jared mccanno got his
- 4:17Speaker 2: first goal since returning from injury and more to say
- 4:20Speaker 2: after the game, it's hard.
- 4:21Speaker 6: To remember because well, the goals that went in, but
- 4:23Speaker 6: you guys were actually in position to get back into
- 4:25Speaker 6: this game at one point and get that short handed
- 4:27Speaker 6: goal on what that looked like look like set play. Yeah,
- 4:31Speaker 6: I think we just got a lost look at the puck.
- 4:34Speaker 6: We know, I think I can do a better job
- 4:36Speaker 6: of kind of getting to that d man a little
- 4:37Speaker 6: bit quicker. So, you know, it's it's tough to find
- 4:41Speaker 6: any any positives from a game like that.
- 4:43Speaker 7: You guys got some goals on the board, but I
- 4:45Speaker 7: mean defensively, it was very atypical game where what did
- 4:48Speaker 7: you see happening with the systems.
- 4:50Speaker 6: This feels like we go one way or the other, right,
- 4:52Speaker 6: like we're either really dialed in defensively not scoring goals
- 4:55Speaker 6: or you know, we're giving up so six seven goals
- 4:58Speaker 6: and then you know getting guard our own as well. Right,
- 5:00Speaker 6: So it's it's frustrating. You know, we gotta we've gotta
- 5:04Speaker 6: dial it in here. We've got to you know, be
- 5:06Speaker 6: better leaders for our team. And you know, I think
- 5:08Speaker 6: it starts with you know me, Maddie and and and absence.
- 5:11Speaker 7: Sorry, this is a team that it can kind of
- 5:13Speaker 7: turn it on offensively when it starts sliding like that
- 5:16Speaker 7: up as it to kind of keep that slide going
- 5:18Speaker 7: with m Dave and dry.
- 5:19Speaker 5: Settle playing there there.
- 5:20Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah, obviously they're very skilled players and you know
- 5:23Speaker 6: they've they've done it for a long time. They're they're
- 5:26Speaker 6: they're hard to contain, but you know, we gotta find
- 5:28Speaker 6: a way.
- 5:28Speaker 2: You could perhaps to text some frustration from cracking head
- 5:31Speaker 2: coach Lane Lambert after Edmonton won four of five on
- 5:35Speaker 2: the power play despite the krack in putting up sixty
- 5:38Speaker 2: two shot attempts at five on five and seventy four
- 5:43Speaker 2: overall for the game to fifty three from Edmonton.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Here's Lambert after the game.
- 5:48Speaker 7: Lane, we haven't seen you give up this many goals
- 5:51Speaker 7: for what? What? What was the problem with the systems tonight?
- 5:54Speaker 7: Because obviously something wasn't working. Power play, uh scored four.
- 6:01Speaker 7: We gave up a shorthanded goal when the score was
- 6:03Speaker 7: three too, and we had an opportunity to get back
- 6:05Speaker 7: into the game because we're not aware of, you know,
- 6:08Speaker 7: somebody behind us, and it ends up in a breakaway
- 6:13Speaker 7: mistakes and I didn't think our goaltending was great tonight.
- 6:15Speaker 7: So if you add it all up, it equals nine.
- 6:21Speaker 2: What do you say to the team after a game
- 6:23Speaker 2: like this?
- 6:24Speaker 7: Nothing?
- 6:26Speaker 6: When this was obviously an uncharacteristic effort defensively, are there
- 6:29Speaker 6: details of execution that you feel like we're noticeably missing
- 6:34Speaker 6: or off?
- 6:34Speaker 7: There was in the first period. We're a little slow
- 6:36Speaker 7: to close. You know, they've got a good offensive hockey
- 6:39Speaker 7: team obviously, you know, so we have to be better
- 6:44Speaker 7: in that area. And you know, once we once we
- 6:46Speaker 7: got on our heels a little bit in our zone,
- 6:49Speaker 7: started a snowball. And to be honest with you, the
- 6:53Speaker 7: irony of the whole situation is, I thought that was
- 6:55Speaker 7: that was one of our best offensive zone games of
- 6:57Speaker 7: the year. You know, we threw seventy some pucks at
- 6:59Speaker 7: the net. We had plenty of opportunities to score. You know,
- 7:04Speaker 7: we did some good things, which is you know, like
- 7:07Speaker 7: I say, the irony of the whole thing is we
- 7:09Speaker 7: we did some good things. We we had some positive situations.
- 7:12Speaker 7: So we have to, uh, you know, we have to
- 7:15Speaker 7: build on that, and we have to you know, we
- 7:17Speaker 7: can't give up nine goals. I mean, it's just can't
- 7:19Speaker 7: give up four power play goals, even though it's you know,
- 7:22Speaker 7: McDavid whatever, but not good enough.
- 7:24Speaker 2: As you mentioned, you were getting back into and early
- 7:26Speaker 2: in the second period ahead of that seveal.
- 7:28Speaker 7: A goal at the shorthanded. What has to happen on that,
- 7:30Speaker 7: on that on that sequence, I mean, on that sequence
- 7:34Speaker 7: really quick. Yeah, oh, you got to win the face off.
- 7:39Speaker 7: We have an extra man. If you don't win the
- 7:41Speaker 7: face off, you gotta jump it. And we just can't
- 7:44Speaker 7: let the guy get behind us. I mean, that's just
- 7:46Speaker 7: just playing. It's it's it's plain and simple. There's some
- 7:48Speaker 7: awareness there, that's all.
- 7:49Speaker 2: So instead of forcing in a practice between games, the
- 7:51Speaker 2: Kraken electing to rest and wipe the sleigh clean because
- 7:56Speaker 2: they're in a stretch right now, playing eleven games in
- 7:59Speaker 2: a tour twenty day stretch, though they will have the
- 8:02Speaker 2: comforts of home at their disposal. Leading us here to
- 8:05Speaker 2: tonight's matchup. It's against Detroit, where the Kraken are aiming
- 8:09Speaker 2: for a split in the head to head series, plus
- 8:11Speaker 2: also opening a three game homestand in Climbate Pledge Arena
- 8:15Speaker 2: where they have been successful for much of the beginning
- 8:18Speaker 2: of this season at six three and three, and they
- 8:21Speaker 2: have handled the Red Wings pretty well on home ice
- 8:24Speaker 2: in their young franchise history, with a two to zero
- 8:27Speaker 2: and two Mark Lane Lambert going with Jared McCann, Matty
- 8:30Speaker 2: Veneers Jordan Eberley as this new top line with Mason
- 8:34Speaker 2: Marchmint out of the mix.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Undisclosed reasons.
- 8:37Speaker 2: He is day to day according to the last report
- 8:39Speaker 2: from Lane Lambert, but should he elect to keep this
- 8:42Speaker 2: trio together, they could make a major impact. Everley is
- 8:46Speaker 2: the crack and leading score head to head against Detroit
- 8:49Speaker 2: with twenty seven points in thirty two games. McCann is
- 8:53Speaker 2: second with thirteen points in his career against the Red Wings. Veneers,
- 8:59Speaker 2: though with less experiences, has been incredibly productive against the
- 9:02Speaker 2: Red Wings in his career with nine points in seven
- 9:06Speaker 2: games head to head. On the back end, Vince Dunn
- 9:09Speaker 2: remains one point away from three hundred in his NHL career.
- 9:12Speaker 2: One more goal or one assist gets him there. This
- 9:16Speaker 2: could be a matchup pretty ripe for the situation. He
- 9:19Speaker 2: owns six assists in his last six games against the
- 9:22Speaker 2: Red Wings. The Red Wings owned just one win of
- 9:25Speaker 2: their previous six games and lost a heartbreaker last time
- 9:28Speaker 2: out six to five to Columbus in a shootout, with
- 9:31Speaker 2: the Blue Jackets scoring two goals in period three, including
- 9:35Speaker 2: a game tying goal from Adam Van Tilly with one
- 9:38Speaker 2: thirty one remaining in regulation, but Dylan Larkin, he's their
- 9:42Speaker 2: main point getter in this series, and he's been hot,
- 9:45Speaker 2: owning points in six consecutive games. He's been their main
- 9:49Speaker 2: go to guy head ahead in the series, leading Detroit
- 9:52Speaker 2: with thirteen points in nine career games against the Crack,
- 9:56Speaker 2: and he's right now also tie for the team lead
- 9:58Speaker 2: in scoring thirty one points with Lucas Raymond, who was
- 10:02Speaker 2: arguably just as hot with points in seven consecutive games.
- 10:06Speaker 2: He's got nine points as well in that span. So
- 10:10Speaker 2: Detroit should certainly be a challenge, and the Kraken would
- 10:13Speaker 2: love to stop them in their tracks to get back
- 10:16Speaker 2: on the winning path for the first time in five games.
- 10:19Speaker 2: We have all the action coming your way seven o'clock
- 10:22Speaker 2: this evening. Airtime is six point thirty from Climate Pledge
- 10:25Speaker 2: Arena postgame at Tom's watch bar up to an hour
- 10:29Speaker 2: after the final horn. We certainly hope that you can
- 10:32Speaker 2: join us for kracking this morning. I'm Mike Benton, and
- 10:35Speaker 2: enjoy the game.
- 10:36Speaker 1: You're home for the Kraken. Sports Radio ninety three point
