- 0:02Speaker 1: Why isn't Carrie in the writer's room Chase show be careful, Rose, careful?
- 0:11Speaker 2: You absolutely good?
- 0:13Speaker 1: She's sheen?
- 0:15Speaker 2: Im me, no, me not name? What is your childhood?
- 0:24Speaker 2: I am a school You going down the floor like around,
- 0:41Speaker 2: and just like that, it's another Paywald episode of like
- 0:45Speaker 2: a virgin Rose. Here we are and here you are yawning.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Maybe are you going to introduce yourself? My name is
- 0:54Speaker 2: fran Torado. Woke moment, I'm woke moment, Rose. Where do
- 1:01Speaker 2: we start?
- 1:03Speaker 1: So? Producer Phoebe really wanted us to talk about the
- 1:07Speaker 1: strap on that Miranda wears, and and just like so, I.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Guess I do think I think that's a good place
- 1:13Speaker 2: for us to start. So wait, I actually forgot what
- 1:16Speaker 2: it was. Please tell me it's not the right one.
- 1:19Speaker 1: No, no, it's like a full body harness. Harness, yeah,
- 1:24Speaker 1: which is like not that's not common. I've never seen
- 1:28Speaker 1: it was crazy, it's same together. She was wearing like
- 1:33Speaker 1: a harness that like a gay guy would wear a
- 1:35Speaker 1: horse meat dishes and then then also attached to a
- 1:40Speaker 1: harness that you know she wanted to fuck ch Dias with.
- 1:44Speaker 2: It's It's okay. This actually is so emblematic of like
- 1:47Speaker 2: the ethical and emotional crisis of trying to drop critique
- 1:50Speaker 2: on this show, because at one point I actually have
- 1:53Speaker 2: empathy for the prop designer, and it's like, we need
- 1:56Speaker 2: this to be funny, and so let me try and
- 1:58Speaker 2: find the funny looking strap that I can get and
- 2:02Speaker 2: like this like horse meat disco full body situation that
- 2:05Speaker 2: looks tacky as fuck. Sorry, is probably gonna be really
- 2:08Speaker 2: funny for Cynthia Nixon to play with, but we as
- 2:12Speaker 2: a community are like, what the fuck is that strap?
- 2:15Speaker 2: But also, honestly, Jadas has such bad taste that they
- 2:18Speaker 2: would have that.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it does put me in mind of
- 2:22Speaker 1: the of the The Cut profile on Sarahmirez, in which
- 2:28Speaker 1: there was some line about like, can't they just portray
- 2:32Speaker 1: queer people who aren't lame? I haven't read that. Actually
- 2:36Speaker 1: I really need to. Like it's so trolley, it's great, Okay.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I don't like troll journalism, so I might have nuanced
- 2:48Speaker 2: thoughts about that.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Next week we'll see, Okay, I can't hear those, so okay,
- 2:55Speaker 1: And just like that. The first two episodes dropped on Thursday.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Generally top line, the headline of it is that I
- 3:06Speaker 1: thought they were better than the first season. I at
- 3:09Speaker 1: least felt like the show was more fun than a
- 3:15Speaker 1: lot of last season. I mean, yeah, you know, a lot.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Of sex back in the.
- 3:19Speaker 1: City, and I think they wanted to shove that right
- 3:22Speaker 1: in our faces with at the very beginning, it was
- 3:25Speaker 1: all having sex.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Which was bad. It was a bad opening sequence. Can
- 3:28Speaker 2: we say that I didn't think it was bad. You
- 3:30Speaker 2: thought that the opening sequence of like what nine different
- 3:36Speaker 2: like women only three of which we care about, are
- 3:42Speaker 2: having sex while Elton John's remix with Brittany of Hold
- 3:47Speaker 2: Me Closer, Tiny Dancer was playing the entire time, you
- 3:49Speaker 2: thought that was good television.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I didn't think. I didn't say it was good. I
- 3:52Speaker 1: said I didn't think it was bad. I thought it
- 3:55Speaker 1: was funny, like and of course there are things I
- 3:59Speaker 1: would change. I mean, and that's the thing is like,
- 4:01Speaker 1: and I'm trying, I'm trying to lead with positivity. This
- 4:04Speaker 1: is what I'm saying. You won't let me. Okay, you're right,
- 4:10Speaker 1: I went into and this is this is the thing
- 4:15Speaker 1: with and just like that, it's like, yes, the baseline is,
- 4:18Speaker 1: we know it's bad. It's wrong, it shouldn't be happening.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I will watch every single episode in existence until I.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Don't yees so, and I would watch it if it
- 4:25Speaker 1: was on like a twenty four hour stream every day,
- 4:28Speaker 1: I would watch it. But that but with it, with
- 4:33Speaker 1: it being like a bad shoe. I thought that these
- 4:36Speaker 1: two episodes were at least a lot more fun than
- 4:39Speaker 1: a lot of the grieving widow stuff from last year.
- 4:43Speaker 1: The characters felt slightly more like the characters we knew
- 4:47Speaker 1: and loved. I thought the newer characters were better balanced
- 4:53Speaker 1: and that their storylines were I think, better woven into
- 4:56Speaker 1: the show. I still don't want them there, but this,
- 5:00Speaker 1: if we have to have them, I'm a little more
- 5:04Speaker 1: okay with how they're being portrayed. All that being said,
- 5:08Speaker 1: I did not laugh out loud once. I can't remember
- 5:12Speaker 1: a single look that anyone wore except for Carrie with
- 5:17Speaker 1: the pigeon purse.
- 5:18Speaker 2: The pigeon and the J. W Anderson pigeon purse.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Yes, and I am so mad about the real Deal storyline,
- 5:30Speaker 1: And honestly, basically I like everything and honestly basically everything
- 5:35Speaker 1: having to do with Charlotte. I think Charlotte is suffering
- 5:39Speaker 1: the most out of anyone on the show.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I'm gathering my thoughts on this in real time. But
- 5:45Speaker 2: I want to echo and affirm my colleague and say,
- 5:50Speaker 2: rose domiue, yes, you're right. The baseline is that it's bad,
- 5:53Speaker 2: and I actually do think it is bad good now.
- 5:58Speaker 2: I think a lot of the first season felt kind
- 6:01Speaker 2: of bad bad with a lot of bad good. Maybe
- 6:05Speaker 2: like the latter half of the show is like harder
- 6:07Speaker 2: to watch. I laughed out loud many times. I actually
- 6:11Speaker 2: thought there were a lot of things that happened in
- 6:13Speaker 2: the first two episodes and mind you, we know this
- 6:16Speaker 2: this week. Yeah, we've only seen two episodes of the show.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I thought there were a lot of things where I
- 6:20Speaker 2: was like, this is pretty slapstick. I'm having a lot
- 6:21Speaker 2: of fun. I did feel, like you said, like they
- 6:25Speaker 2: were leaning into the sex and leaning into like, okay,
- 6:27Speaker 2: how can we really have fun and put this like
- 6:29Speaker 2: widow stuff on pause? Chay and Miranda. I mean, I'm
- 6:35Speaker 2: glad that we're seeing that their relationship is dysfunctional. We
- 6:39Speaker 2: do not need another episode about Chay. Chaye needs to
- 6:42Speaker 2: go now. Like That's how I feel. I feel like
- 6:45Speaker 2: it's run its course and we just need one other big,
- 6:48Speaker 2: horrible thing for them to do, and that's it.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I'm also okay, I hear you, and believe me, no
- 6:54Speaker 1: one wants chag On more than I do. That being said,
- 6:57Speaker 1: and this is where I come back to my original point.
- 7:00Speaker 1: We have to have Chay, I at least feel like
- 7:02Speaker 1: they're doing somewhat interesting stuff with them, like the stuff
- 7:06Speaker 1: about the costume fitting and their body image and like
- 7:10Speaker 1: not being like the right kind of non binary, and
- 7:13Speaker 1: the stuff with Tony Danza as being their dad.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Like, I just don't. I don't think it's I don't
- 7:18Speaker 2: think it's good storytelling out all, but I do like
- 7:21Speaker 2: Chay as a ridiculous figure. But I'm sorry I to
- 7:25Speaker 2: disagree with you. But I also don't think sophoebe saying
- 7:28Speaker 2: in the chat was like Chay crying about the body
- 7:30Speaker 2: image even real I thought it was fake, did you do?
- 7:33Speaker 2: I thought it was a manipulation tactic.
- 7:34Speaker 1: No, I don't think the show is like layered or
- 7:37Speaker 1: smart enough to have that to be subterfuged, like everything
- 7:40Speaker 1: is what you're seeing is what you're getting.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Well, that's disappointing because for me, I feel like Miranda,
- 7:46Speaker 2: same as last season, is still suffering the most from
- 7:49Speaker 2: the writing of the show. I do not want to
- 7:51Speaker 2: see Miranda as this fresh out of the closet like
- 7:56Speaker 2: codependent queer baby, like it is like it is like
- 8:01Speaker 2: that is like that type of person, the person that
- 8:05Speaker 2: we see. Oh my god, Phoebe's referencing I don't know.
- 8:10Speaker 2: I also tragic, Like it's just not These are not
- 8:13Speaker 2: the qualities of a likable person or character, and Miranda
- 8:17Speaker 2: is an extremely likable character, an extremely likable person despite
- 8:21Speaker 2: the block.
- 8:27Speaker 1: If you want to hear all of our thoughts about
- 8:29Speaker 1: the first two episodes of Men Just Like That, from
- 8:32Speaker 1: Cynthia Nixon's orgasming skills to our thoughts on the change
- 8:38Speaker 1: as of it all, go to patreon dot com slash
- 8:41Speaker 1: like a version and become a patron
