- 0:12Speaker 1: Grayson Rodriguez of the Angels joining us round now on
- 0:15Speaker 1: foul territory. Grayson, great to have you on here, man,
- 0:18Speaker 1: good to catch up. How's life. Does it feel good
- 0:21Speaker 1: to just be back? You're in the bigs, You're throwing
- 0:24Speaker 1: pitches there, what's going on?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 0:27Speaker 3: Absolutely, man, it feels great to finally be back on
- 0:30Speaker 3: the active roster. I know it felt like five ten
- 0:32Speaker 3: years that I was on the aisle.
- 0:34Speaker 2: It was tough, but.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Yeah, finally just to be just happy to be back
- 0:38Speaker 3: out there and pitching every five and six days.
- 0:42Speaker 4: What did you miss? What did you miss the most?
- 0:45Speaker 2: No, you're good.
- 0:47Speaker 3: I would say, just like the everyday thing of like
- 0:50Speaker 3: you know, waking up and not worrying about how to
- 0:52Speaker 3: get to the field early for rehab or just being
- 0:56Speaker 3: able to watch the game and like I said, feel
- 0:58Speaker 3: like you're a part of the team because on the il,
- 1:00Speaker 3: you know, sometimes you show up to the ballpark and
- 1:02Speaker 3: you feel like you're obviously not going to contribute that day.
- 1:06Speaker 3: But yeah, just being back on the active roster I
- 1:08Speaker 3: think is probably what I missed the most, Just being
- 1:09Speaker 3: able to show up to the ballpark and you know,
- 1:12Speaker 3: look at a scouting report and get ready for the
- 1:14Speaker 3: next start.
- 1:16Speaker 5: Was there something that you had to do as far
- 1:17Speaker 5: as like a routine that you were like, even though
- 1:20Speaker 5: I'm on the il, I'm still getting my pregame shower,
- 1:23Speaker 5: my uniform on, or my uniform on walking out with
- 1:26Speaker 5: the other starting pitchers. Was there something that like kind
- 1:28Speaker 5: of got you back in that, hey, I'm on the
- 1:31Speaker 5: active roster routine besides pitching.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean i'd say obviously, like you said, like
- 1:36Speaker 3: walking down with the bullpen or yeah, getting the uniform on,
- 1:41Speaker 3: the jersey on, or whatever it might be. I think
- 1:43Speaker 3: for me with throwing throwing bullpens in jerseys, was something
- 1:47Speaker 3: that kind of kept me feeling like I was active
- 1:49Speaker 3: or you know, not rehabbing, but making sure you're doing
- 1:53Speaker 3: something like that, I guess. And then you know, just
- 1:55Speaker 3: kind of preparing for when you are active and you're
- 1:58Speaker 3: back in the season kind of things you know, kind
- 2:00Speaker 3: of done the exact same way.
- 2:02Speaker 2: So that's what we've been trying to do, Grayson.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Most most guys get four or five rehab starts. You
- 2:07Speaker 4: only had two. Was that the plan the whole time
- 2:10Speaker 4: or was this just you saying, Man, I haven't pitched
- 2:12Speaker 4: so long, I need to get back.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it was a little bit of that
- 2:17Speaker 3: as well as just feeling ready. I mean I had
- 2:22Speaker 3: you know, there was obviously like two rehab starts in
- 2:25Speaker 3: the minor leagues, but then you know, I also threw
- 2:28Speaker 3: a couple of times in extended spring training down in Arizona,
- 2:33Speaker 3: so I was able to kind of have some of
- 2:35Speaker 3: those outings as well. I think I threw two or
- 2:37Speaker 3: three times down there, So yeah, I mean it was
- 2:40Speaker 3: a little bit more.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Than two outings. But yeah, I mean I just felt
- 2:45Speaker 2: like I was ready.
- 2:45Speaker 3: I mean, obviously the velocity was there, was able to
- 2:51Speaker 3: spend the breaking balls well, and so yeah, I mean
- 2:53Speaker 3: just wanted to let it rip against the Dodgers, you know,
- 2:56Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago, and just to see where
- 2:59Speaker 3: I was at, and uh really just missed it so
- 3:02Speaker 3: much that you know, that was kind of the I
- 3:04Speaker 3: don't know, I felt I felt hurried up a little
- 3:07Speaker 3: bit just because I wanted to get back out there.
- 3:10Speaker 5: You can only do so much in triple A.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, that's for sure. Yeah, I mean, facing minor league.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Hitters incomparable to to the big league hitters, that's for sure.
- 3:20Speaker 5: What's the difference what's the difference, because it's I said
- 3:23Speaker 5: all the time, triple A. It's just not as good
- 3:26Speaker 5: for you as a pitcher. Is it your exertion? Is
- 3:29Speaker 5: it your like need to make pitches which makes you
- 3:32Speaker 5: feel like you have to desert exert yourself more.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think you I think well, I
- 3:37Speaker 3: think you get away with a lot more in the
- 3:39Speaker 3: minor leagues in what you do in the big leagues.
- 3:41Speaker 3: You know, like you know, if you're and I'm saying,
- 3:44Speaker 3: like pitches over the plate, so like you know, maybe
- 3:48Speaker 3: you get to two strikes and you throw a curveball
- 3:50Speaker 3: that's not in a great spot, and you know it's
- 3:54Speaker 3: a bad pitch. A minor league guy could fail it
- 3:55Speaker 3: off or miss it. As your big league guy probably
- 3:59Speaker 3: maybe you know, hit it over the fence or hit
- 4:01Speaker 3: it hard somewhere. I think it's probably the big differences
- 4:05Speaker 3: and the swing decisions are another thing. Yeah, I think
- 4:10Speaker 3: there are a couple of different factors of just not
- 4:14Speaker 3: being able to get away with some misses that you
- 4:16Speaker 3: do in the minor leagues in the big leagues.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Grayston, did you make any adjustments after missing that much time?
- 4:23Speaker 4: Do you make any adjustments to your arsenal. Do you
- 4:25Speaker 4: make any adjustments to your mechanics, Do you make any
- 4:27Speaker 4: adjustments to your workouts, to your nutrition? Is there anything
- 4:30Speaker 4: that you change after missing such a long time.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 4:35Speaker 3: I think obviously nutrition was one, like looking back on it,
- 4:40Speaker 3: like probably wouldn't getting enough protein and some things on
- 4:43Speaker 3: start days, so the body was kind of lacking that nutrition.
- 4:47Speaker 3: And then the day after you know, to heal and recover.
- 4:51Speaker 3: And then as far as mechanics goes, I mean, just
- 4:54Speaker 3: working on short in the arm path a little bit.
- 4:56Speaker 3: I think at times I was getting a little long.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Obviously that adds.
- 4:59Speaker 3: A little bit more stress on the shoulder, and so
- 5:03Speaker 3: just trying to take that stress down. Obviously worked with Maddox,
- 5:06Speaker 3: our pitching coach with a mad dog, just trying to
- 5:10Speaker 3: shorten that arm path up a little bit to feel
- 5:11Speaker 3: a little bit stronger, and it's made my shoulder feel
- 5:14Speaker 3: so much better. As far as arsenal goes, nothing really different.
- 5:18Speaker 3: I mean, still just the same four pitch mix, you know,
- 5:22Speaker 3: going out there and kind of seeing what I have
- 5:24Speaker 3: to work with that night, attack the hitters with that
- 5:26Speaker 3: kind of stuff. But yeah, I mean I'd say there
- 5:29Speaker 3: was a couple of minor changes, nothing major, but the biggest.
- 5:33Speaker 2: One I'd probably say was probably nutrition food.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Has Mike Maddocks been a big change for you when
- 5:41Speaker 5: since you've come over, because you were kind of excited
- 5:44Speaker 5: to For everybody who's not listening, I'm holding my mustache
- 5:47Speaker 5: just like Mad Dog Mike Maddox does when he comes
- 5:50Speaker 5: out to the mound and holds his hand on there.
- 5:52Speaker 5: He's not covering his mouth, He's just holding his mustache
- 5:55Speaker 5: so it doesn't fall off. Has he been a big
- 5:57Speaker 5: change in the sense where you said when you came
- 5:59Speaker 5: on and you got moved over to the Angels, you
- 6:02Speaker 5: were like kind of kind of interested to work with
- 6:05Speaker 5: a guy like this.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah. No, he's been awesome.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I mean, obviously, his baseball knowledge is amazing. All the
- 6:13Speaker 3: meetings we had with him at spring training just talking
- 6:16Speaker 3: about you know, baseball situation stuff was great. And then
- 6:20Speaker 3: having him during the season. You know, it's been It's
- 6:23Speaker 3: been good so far. Like I said, I've only made
- 6:25Speaker 3: four starts, but yeah, I mean you can definitely tell,
- 6:28Speaker 3: like the experience is there. He's been awesome to work with.
- 6:33Speaker 2: It's not like I don't know a lot of like
- 6:36Speaker 2: word soup.
- 6:37Speaker 3: It's just right to the point, and this is what
- 6:39Speaker 3: you need to do. This is what I think you
- 6:41Speaker 3: can do to get better. And you know, that's how
- 6:44Speaker 3: it's been, and I've enjoyed it so far. Obviously kind
- 6:47Speaker 3: of gotten off to a rocky start, but yeah, I
- 6:50Speaker 3: mean he's right there with me, and you know, we're
- 6:52Speaker 3: working on some things right now and getting ready for
- 6:55Speaker 3: the next start.
- 6:56Speaker 5: Did you see Bailey over filed a formal complaint about
- 6:59Speaker 5: the balls that he threw a few weeks ago, right
- 7:03Speaker 5: before he got hurt.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Did you see that? No, I did not.
- 7:07Speaker 5: He was complaining about they were the worst baseballs that
- 7:10Speaker 5: he's thrown in his six year career. Have you noticed
- 7:14Speaker 5: inconsistencies with the baseballs I'm not saying just now, but
- 7:18Speaker 5: throughout your career.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe a little bit. I think you can.
- 7:25Speaker 3: You know, there's definitely times where maybe the baseball feels
- 7:29Speaker 3: harder or softer. The scenes are smaller, scenes are bigger.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 7:35Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, I don't think it's too drastic, but
- 7:38Speaker 3: I think, you know, guys that really have.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Done in a long time, like he's obviously pitching the
- 7:42Speaker 2: big leagues a lot longer than I have.
- 7:45Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean I think there are some kind
- 7:47Speaker 3: of Yeah, I think the ball does change a little bit,
- 7:50Speaker 3: you know, and it could be, you know, in the
- 7:51Speaker 3: same game. I mean, you know, the baseballs are handmade,
- 7:54Speaker 3: you know, their hands stitched or whatever. So yeah, I
- 7:58Speaker 3: mean sometimes they do feel a little bit different. You know,
- 8:00Speaker 3: there's better balls out there that you know, maybe you
- 8:02Speaker 3: can throw a better forceinger with, or you know, maybe
- 8:05Speaker 3: there's a ball out there that you want to throw
- 8:07Speaker 3: a change up or a breaking ball with. But yeah,
- 8:09Speaker 3: I mean i'd say, yeah, not every baseball is the same,
- 8:13Speaker 3: but yeah, I mean in terms of over my career, no,
- 8:16Speaker 3: I mean I haven't really seen any kind of huge change.
- 8:19Speaker 3: But I've also, like I said, been in the big
- 8:21Speaker 3: leagues about half the time he has.
- 8:22Speaker 1: So, Hey, Grayson, some questions about your teammates. I want
- 8:27Speaker 1: to start with Joe Adele, who's been on the show
- 8:29Speaker 1: quite a few times. I mean, he had maybe the
- 8:31Speaker 1: best defensive outfield game of all time earlier this season,
- 8:35Speaker 1: and then he had the blooper the other day where
- 8:38Speaker 1: it knocked off him and went over the wall. How
- 8:41Speaker 1: did he react to all of that? Like, did you
- 8:43Speaker 1: guys have fun with it? Ajo always says, Hey, nothing sacred.
- 8:46Speaker 1: You know, everything in the clubhouse can get made fun of,
- 8:49Speaker 1: besides like families or whatever. But anything on the field,
- 8:51Speaker 1: for sure, you can have a good laugh with. There's
- 8:53Speaker 1: one hundred and sixty two of them.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean absolutely, Like baseball is a game where
- 8:57Speaker 3: you don't know what the heck's going to happen. Obviously, Yeah,
- 9:00Speaker 3: going back to the game where he robs three homers,
- 9:03Speaker 3: like single handedly the best OUTFA performance you know, I've
- 9:07Speaker 3: ever seen, and I know a lot of people have
- 9:09Speaker 3: ever seen. Robin three homers is absolutely insane. And then yeah,
- 9:14Speaker 3: I mean you know, like you have like what happened
- 9:16Speaker 3: the other night, Like I mean, you know he's not
- 9:18Speaker 3: doing that on purpose. I mean, you know, the ball's head,
- 9:20Speaker 3: he's going back, he's trying to find the wall, and
- 9:23Speaker 3: obviously you got like Mike coming in. I don't know,
- 9:24Speaker 3: there's a lot of stuff going on there. But I
- 9:26Speaker 3: mean it's just baseball. I mean things like that happen,
- 9:30Speaker 3: and I know it's I mean, I know it's kind
- 9:32Speaker 3: of crazy, but I mean you just have to move
- 9:34Speaker 3: on and you know it happens, it's in the past,
- 9:37Speaker 3: and you know, obviously, yeah, I mean, you know he's
- 9:39Speaker 3: sorry about it. You know, he, like I said, he
- 9:40Speaker 3: didn't do it on purpose. So I mean it's all good.
- 9:43Speaker 3: You know, you just move on and you know, you
- 9:45Speaker 3: keep going about the season. There's so many more games left,
- 9:49Speaker 3: and you know he's going to make a lot, He's
- 9:50Speaker 3: going to make so.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Many more great plays this year.
- 9:52Speaker 3: And you know, like I said, I mean, yeah, we
- 9:54Speaker 3: can laugh and joke about it, and you know he
- 9:56Speaker 3: takes it well. And but like I said, the most
- 9:59Speaker 3: important thing as you just move on. And you know
- 10:01Speaker 3: that happened what three or four days ago, And yeah,
- 10:04Speaker 3: I mean it's not even gonna get talked about today
- 10:07Speaker 3: in the club.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Should that have been an air.
- 10:12Speaker 2: For sure?
- 10:13Speaker 5: Starting pictures standpoint, that's your own run. It hit his
- 10:16Speaker 5: glove and then his head.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I don't know. I'm not really sure.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not the best scoring person to ask, but
- 10:26Speaker 3: I mean I don't know. Yeah, I mean, first off,
- 10:28Speaker 3: it's my fault for you know, giving up that hard
- 10:30Speaker 3: hit ball. I think obviously there's a curveball that just
- 10:32Speaker 3: kind of nestled middle down. But yeah, I mean, I
- 10:36Speaker 3: you know, I think we're only four starts in, you know,
- 10:39Speaker 3: if I'm starting to really worry about earned runs and everything. Like,
- 10:43Speaker 3: right now, I'm just focused on one being able to
- 10:45Speaker 3: go out there, and then two obviously like trying to
- 10:49Speaker 3: attack the lineup and make sure that I'm giving my
- 10:51Speaker 3: team the best chance to win.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Obviously, you know.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Gave up a few runs the other night, But like
- 10:57Speaker 3: I said, I've already started focusing on facing or the
- 11:00Speaker 3: next team that's coming up. And yeah, so, like I said,
- 11:05Speaker 3: I can't make the call.
- 11:06Speaker 2: On whether or not that was an error.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Hey, you mentioned Trout too, So have you had some
- 11:12Speaker 1: good combos with him yet? I mean, do you look
- 11:16Speaker 1: at him and say, hey, it's one of the best
- 11:18Speaker 1: players we've ever seen. It's pretty cool that I'm going
- 11:20Speaker 1: to get to spend some time with this guy now.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And we know, I mean, he's one of the nicest guys.
- 11:25Speaker 1: He's very open to hanging out and having conversations. Right,
- 11:28Speaker 1: He's not showing up with an entourade, He's none of that.
- 11:31Speaker 1: But can you explain what it's been like so far?
- 11:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's been awesome.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Obviously, haven't played with a guy like that of his
- 11:38Speaker 3: caliber before, So I mean, honestly, I've explained it to
- 11:42Speaker 3: people that are like, you know, what's Mike Trout like?
- 11:44Speaker 3: And I'm like, it's like, I mean, it's like a
- 11:46Speaker 3: twelve year old kid that shows up to the ballpark
- 11:49Speaker 3: that just cannot wait to play every night.
- 11:52Speaker 2: I mean that's kind of like what it is. You know, he's.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Always the first guy at the ballpark. The energy is
- 11:57Speaker 3: the exact same every day. He's excited to play. You know,
- 12:01Speaker 3: he's never down. It's it's always he's just looking forward
- 12:04Speaker 3: to it. And it's pretty cool to see because like
- 12:06Speaker 3: it kind of I don't know, you that that energy
- 12:09Speaker 3: kind of spreads throughout the clubhouse. You know, guys see
- 12:12Speaker 3: that and then they're like, hey, we get to play
- 12:14Speaker 3: a baseball game tonight, and so like that's how Mike is.
- 12:16Speaker 3: I mean, you know, he shows up like I said,
- 12:18Speaker 3: you know, he's extremely excited to play every night. Super
- 12:21Speaker 3: cool to see and uh man, to be able to
- 12:24Speaker 3: see somebody that's you know, had the career he has
- 12:26Speaker 3: play on put on the same jersey as you has
- 12:29Speaker 3: been awesome, you know. I mean it's you're almost like
- 12:32Speaker 3: a little kid in a dugout whenever you see him
- 12:34Speaker 3: walk up to bat.
- 12:35Speaker 2: And obviously you're expecting.
- 12:36Speaker 3: The home run or something big, and a lot of
- 12:39Speaker 3: the times, you know, he performs, and he's had a
- 12:41Speaker 3: great season so far.
- 12:43Speaker 5: You guys are gonna you're gonna start against the Astros,
- 12:45Speaker 5: and a lot of time, you know, I say, Jordan
- 12:47Speaker 5: Alvarez is one of the best five hitters in the
- 12:49Speaker 5: game right now, if not maybe top three hitters. Can
- 12:53Speaker 5: starting pitchers admit who the best five hitters are in
- 12:57Speaker 5: the game or is it something that like you don't
- 12:59Speaker 5: ever talk about because you're like, I don't want to
- 13:01Speaker 5: give him enough credit, or is that something that you're
- 13:04Speaker 5: like that guys don't really talk about or are just
- 13:08Speaker 5: afraid to talk about.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think like, I mean, I think
- 13:11Speaker 3: it's fine to admit it or whatever. I think it
- 13:14Speaker 3: differs though for some guys just based off like you know,
- 13:17Speaker 3: past that bats and in games like obviously I face
- 13:21Speaker 3: the order on a couple of times we were in
- 13:25Speaker 3: Baltimore and I threw threw a pretty good change up
- 13:30Speaker 3: to him.
- 13:31Speaker 2: He was down, fooled him.
- 13:33Speaker 3: It's kind of like a you know, he kind of
- 13:35Speaker 3: lunged at it through the bat out there and just
- 13:38Speaker 3: kind of flicked it and uh, I was like, oh,
- 13:40Speaker 3: that's that's a flyball.
- 13:41Speaker 2: It's an out and uh ball was in the gap.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Santander ends up catching it, jumps up, catches it against
- 13:47Speaker 3: the wall, burnt out, and I'm.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Like, holy cal how did that ball go so far?
- 13:52Speaker 3: And uh, yeah, I mean somebody like that.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Obviously, he's so big and powerful. You know, even even
- 14:00Speaker 2: when he takes a bad swing, the ball can still
- 14:02Speaker 2: leave the park.
- 14:02Speaker 3: And you, obviously, the starting pitcher, you prepare to face
- 14:05Speaker 3: that guy three times for sure, or at least that's
- 14:08Speaker 3: the goal.
- 14:10Speaker 2: And so yeah, like I said, you just got a
- 14:11Speaker 2: game plan for it, you know.
- 14:13Speaker 3: And then again, you know, you take these guys that
- 14:16Speaker 3: are really good hitters, and then you try not to
- 14:17Speaker 3: give them too much credit because if you start giving
- 14:19Speaker 3: them too much credit, then you know, you start kind
- 14:22Speaker 3: of being you know, you start pitching away from the zone.
- 14:26Speaker 3: And that's obviously what you don't want to do because
- 14:29Speaker 3: obviously there's nine hitters in a lineup.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Those guys are big leaders too, and any one of
- 14:33Speaker 2: their bats can hit a ball and leave the yard.
- 14:36Speaker 3: So yeah, I mean, like I said, you know, those
- 14:38Speaker 3: hitters are great, and so is he. I mean, he's
- 14:40Speaker 3: definitely one of the top five hitters in the league
- 14:42Speaker 3: right now. But yeah, I mean as a starter, I
- 14:45Speaker 3: mean you got to one, you just got to admit it,
- 14:48Speaker 3: but two, you got to go right after him.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Hey, Grayson, last one for you. Because it's the next
- 14:53Speaker 1: segment on our show. We like to take an article
- 14:56Speaker 1: and then get the player perspective of current and of
- 14:59Speaker 1: course form.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Or we're about to do.
- 15:00Speaker 6: So.
- 15:00Speaker 1: There's an article in the Athletics that some MLB orgs
- 15:03Speaker 1: are more injury prone than others.
- 15:05Speaker 7: Is it bad luck or a system issue?
- 15:07Speaker 1: And they did a study from since twenty four, since
- 15:10Speaker 1: twenty two and even back to twenty twelve. The three
- 15:13Speaker 1: orgs that have the most injuries or the Yankees, the Mets,
- 15:15Speaker 1: and the Orioles. They counted minor league and major league.
- 15:18Speaker 1: So I feel like it's something I got to ask you.
- 15:20Speaker 1: It's just, you know, do you think there's anything to it?
- 15:23Speaker 1: The story was really good. It was it wasn't like
- 15:25Speaker 1: focusing on the Oriols org. It was more looking big picture, like, hey,
- 15:28Speaker 1: are these organizations looking more for velocity? Some of those
- 15:31Speaker 1: organizations have the best plus stuff plus guys. Some of
- 15:35Speaker 1: them are promoting swing speed a lot, So are there
- 15:37Speaker 1: any correlations there, So just curious to get your thoughts,
- 15:40Speaker 1: you know, if if you're giving feedback on, hey, this
- 15:43Speaker 1: is what I saw that maybe could be leading to
- 15:46Speaker 1: more of these younger guys getting hurt.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say like being able to obviously come
- 15:52Speaker 3: up through the Orioles organization and kind of see like,
- 15:56Speaker 3: you know, everything that I was taught to focus on
- 15:59Speaker 3: or what worked on like in bullpens or you know,
- 16:03Speaker 3: not necessarily during the starts, because you know, like during games,
- 16:06Speaker 3: you're going out there and you're competing.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Obviously in the minor leagues.
- 16:09Speaker 3: There's ending limits and pitch limits and all kinds of
- 16:11Speaker 3: stuff like that. But I'd say one thing like a
- 16:14Speaker 3: big difference that I've seen from like the Angels and
- 16:18Speaker 3: the Orioles organizations was I came over here in spring
- 16:23Speaker 3: and uh, well, while I was rehabing in Baltimore last year,
- 16:27Speaker 3: I mean there was there was there was a ton
- 16:28Speaker 3: of guys that I was rehabing with minor league, minor
- 16:32Speaker 3: league guys, and it's like, wow, you know, lots of
- 16:35Speaker 3: lots of guys are getting hurt these days, and you
- 16:38Speaker 3: just know that, like guys are throwing harder. Obviously the
- 16:40Speaker 3: risk for injuries higher, So it's kind of normal, or
- 16:43Speaker 3: at least what I thought at the time. And then
- 16:46Speaker 3: coming over to like this organization, like seeing I guess
- 16:52Speaker 3: a lot less guys that were rehabing, and then kind
- 16:55Speaker 3: of hearing their philosophy on like minor league pitchers and
- 16:58Speaker 3: like kind of like how their bullpen are, and like
- 17:01Speaker 3: one thing that I noticed was like the bullpens for
- 17:06Speaker 3: I guess this organization's minor leaguers are a heck of
- 17:09Speaker 3: a lot different than when I was coming up. And yeah,
- 17:14Speaker 3: I'd say, like that's kind of been the differences they
- 17:17Speaker 3: kind of look at. I guess maybe a player's long
- 17:21Speaker 3: term health. I don't know, there's it's kind of hard
- 17:26Speaker 3: to put into words, but like I don't know that
- 17:31Speaker 3: it's not about, hey, this is how hard you're gonna
- 17:34Speaker 3: throw in your bullpen, or you know, we want you
- 17:37Speaker 3: to chase spin rate or some kind of you know, metric.
- 17:41Speaker 3: It's more along the lines of, you know, we're gonna
- 17:44Speaker 3: get in here, you're gonna throw strikes, You're gonna throw
- 17:46Speaker 3: fifteen to twenty pitches at seventy five percent effort and
- 17:49Speaker 3: get out of there and yeah, I mean that definitely
- 17:53Speaker 3: leads to a lot less injuries, I think, But yeah,
- 17:56Speaker 3: I mean it's definitely been different. But yeah, I mean
- 17:58Speaker 3: I don't know, I don't Yeah, I can't really put
- 18:02Speaker 3: it into words, I guess.
- 18:04Speaker 1: No, I think the answer made a lot of sense,
- 18:07Speaker 1: you know, where, Yeah, where you're trying to weigh the
- 18:09Speaker 1: balance of Hey, you know, I want to use these
- 18:12Speaker 1: new tools and I want to try and whatever improve
- 18:14Speaker 1: a certain pitch quality or something like that, but also
- 18:17Speaker 1: you want to keep the guy on the field. How
- 18:19Speaker 1: do you do that long term? Because that's the most
- 18:22Speaker 1: important thing, right, Oh, can I improve him zero point
- 18:24Speaker 1: one percent on these pitches?
- 18:26Speaker 2: You know?
- 18:27Speaker 1: And I'm just generalizing here, but the real name of
- 18:29Speaker 1: the game is who's on the field, right, I mean,
- 18:32Speaker 1: that's part of it. Whenever we talk about teams, most
- 18:35Speaker 1: of the time we talk about how many injuries they
- 18:37Speaker 1: have and then how they didn't make the playoffs that year.
- 18:39Speaker 1: That's usually the first thing that we go to on
- 18:41Speaker 1: our show, right, Like we'll be like, oh, well, you know, Baltimore,
- 18:44Speaker 1: they were missing fifteen guys. It's like, okay, well some
- 18:47Speaker 1: of those guys probably would have getten hurt. No, matter what,
- 18:49Speaker 1: but maybe some of them would have had a different plan.
- 18:50Speaker 1: So it's not just Baltimore. There's many other orgs, but
- 18:53Speaker 1: just was curious so I thought it was really interesting answer.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Appreciate the time, dude, great to catch up.
- 18:58Speaker 2: We'll be watching.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Keep doing you dude, It's awesome to see you back.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks Fellows. I appreciate you'll having me on.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Thank you talk sing Yeah yep. Grayson Rodriguez with us
- 19:09Speaker 1: from the Angels. We got an Angel show too. By
- 19:11Speaker 1: the way, Helo Territory is the name. Mike Dgivon has
- 19:14Speaker 1: been covering the team for a long time. Mark trump
- 19:16Speaker 1: is a big deal out there, big boy Mark Trumpo
- 19:18Speaker 1: has had some big seasons. Mike Stosha was one of
- 19:21Speaker 1: the guests. There's been many others connected to the org.
- 19:24Speaker 1: So check it out if you get a chance. Subscribe
- 19:26Speaker 1: to it on YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts.
- 19:29Speaker 8: Think of like going through rehab. I think of like
- 19:31Speaker 8: getting better, getting back to pitching. But I also think
- 19:33Speaker 8: of like growth. I want to evolve. I want to
- 19:36Speaker 8: get better in a lot of different things. Because we
- 19:38Speaker 8: all know it's like a year long rehab and twelve
- 19:41Speaker 8: months are going to go by whether I do it
- 19:44Speaker 8: right or do it wrong. Twelve months are going to
- 19:45Speaker 8: go by whether my only focus is rehabbing and pitching
- 19:49Speaker 8: or whether like I still try to grow in a
- 19:50Speaker 8: lot of things. So might as well take advantage of
- 19:53Speaker 8: the time saying yeah, like getting back to pitching is
- 19:55Speaker 8: my my north star, Like, oh, that's a priority. I
- 19:57Speaker 8: want to get back to pitching. I want to come
- 19:59Speaker 8: back better than ever, But I also don't want twelve
- 20:01Speaker 8: months to go by where like board time go or
- 20:03Speaker 8: like what else did I do with my time?
- 20:05Speaker 7: What else did I do with my twelve months?
- 20:07Speaker 9: So that was the voice of Pablo Lopez, and this
- 20:12Speaker 9: is Twins Cities Territory or Minnesota Twins podcast on the
- 20:16Speaker 9: Foul Territory Network. Lopez, of course the Twins opening day
- 20:20Speaker 9: starter each of the past three seasons, and probably would
- 20:23Speaker 9: have been again this year if not for a torn
- 20:26Speaker 9: ucl and his throwing elbow suffered very early on in
- 20:29Speaker 9: spring training. Lopez is now out for the season rehabbing
- 20:33Speaker 9: that injury, and he joined Dan Hayes, the Athletics Minnesota
- 20:36Speaker 9: Twins beat writer and me Zach Pierce, also of the
- 20:39Speaker 9: Athletic this week to talk about his rehab, talk a
- 20:42Speaker 9: little bit about as many side quests as he calls
- 20:45Speaker 9: them with the team this year, including serving as an
- 20:47Speaker 9: interpreter for some of the Spanish speaking players. Also gave
- 20:50Speaker 9: us a little preview of some broadcasting work he has
- 20:53Speaker 9: coming up. We also discussed his mindset over this twelve
- 20:56Speaker 9: month recovery process, and also how it feels sitting on
- 21:01Speaker 9: the sidelines as the Twins starting rotation navigates a tricky
- 21:04Speaker 9: year full of injuries across the board, but still being
- 21:08Speaker 9: one of the team's strengths this year. So we'll get
- 21:10Speaker 9: to that interview in just a second. After that, we'll
- 21:13Speaker 9: talk about the Twins series opening lost to the Royals
- 21:16Speaker 9: on Thursday, dropped pop ups and all. We'll talk about
- 21:19Speaker 9: Mick Able's latest sign of progress coming back from his injury,
- 21:22Speaker 9: and also why Bailey ober is mad at a wet baseball.
- 21:25Speaker 9: All that coming up, but first our great interview with
- 21:28Speaker 9: Pablo Lopez. Enjoy all right, welcome back to the show.
- 21:33Speaker 9: Pablo Lopez is here. Twins starting pitcher joins us. Where
- 21:38Speaker 9: are you right now? Pablo? Are you in Minnesota?
- 21:41Speaker 7: This is Target Pheel right now, You're at Target Field. Yeah,
- 21:44Speaker 7: just got done working out, just got done in the
- 21:46Speaker 7: training room.
- 21:46Speaker 8: I'm probably still sweating after my work out, but wanted
- 21:50Speaker 8: to fit this in.
- 21:50Speaker 7: So thank you guys for having me.
- 21:52Speaker 9: Well, thank you for thank you for being here. Yeah
- 21:55Speaker 9: for sure. First of all, how are things going, how's rehab?
- 21:58Speaker 9: How's everything looking.
- 22:00Speaker 8: Everything's looking great. I've been hitting all of my marks
- 22:03Speaker 8: right now. Yesterday it was Wednesday, so it was fourteen weeks.
- 22:09Speaker 8: We're fast approaching to the seventeen week mark, which after surgery,
- 22:14Speaker 8: it's a pretty symbolic mark because then I'm going to
- 22:17Speaker 8: start doing two handed like bliometrics, so like with med balls,
- 22:20Speaker 8: doing two handed throws, soccer throws, all kinds of things.
- 22:23Speaker 7: So it's the first step. We we're introducing a.
- 22:26Speaker 8: Little bit of laid back to the elbow, to the ligament,
- 22:28Speaker 8: couple throws, like a little bit of those motions.
- 22:31Speaker 7: So everything's been feeling really well.
- 22:34Speaker 8: Everything leading up to that point is just strengthening, building
- 22:38Speaker 8: capacity in the conditioning aspect of it, the mobility, you know,
- 22:43Speaker 8: reshaping my whole body. So like you know, once you
- 22:45Speaker 8: hit your lowest point, you just open to the biggest change.
- 22:48Speaker 8: So like you know, let me just break myself down
- 22:50Speaker 8: to pieces and then just put it together even better
- 22:52Speaker 8: than it was before. So just taking advantage of the time,
- 22:56Speaker 8: you know, like obviously I was giving all this time
- 22:58Speaker 8: to work out and work on myself without thinking that
- 23:02Speaker 8: I'm going to be tired to pitch, so might as
- 23:03Speaker 8: well just do the beds that I can.
- 23:06Speaker 6: And that's where the truly fascinating part of this is
- 23:09Speaker 6: is last week, Zach, we're in Chicago, had a rate field.
- 23:13Speaker 6: Twins are playing the White Sox and it's about, I
- 23:15Speaker 6: don't know, the second inning and right before the game,
- 23:19Speaker 6: and you see Pablo heading to the bullpen, and this
- 23:22Speaker 6: is you know usually that happens about forty minutes before
- 23:25Speaker 6: a game and going out and getting the start, and
- 23:27Speaker 6: this was an entirely different thing. Pablo was shadowing Anderson
- 23:30Speaker 6: dala Rosa, the Twins bullpen catcher. You have also acted
- 23:35Speaker 6: as the interpreter for the team at times, because it's
- 23:39Speaker 6: funny the Twins started the season and they had no
- 23:42Speaker 6: players that actually needed Spanish interpretation at the time. Since
- 23:47Speaker 6: Kendry Rojas and Joandros Gomez have joined the club and
- 23:52Speaker 6: they need interpreters. But you've done those two roles so far.
- 23:57Speaker 6: But what else have you been doing like sort of
- 23:58Speaker 6: unique stuff that you'd ever done before, and why like
- 24:02Speaker 6: why did you want to shadow the bullpen catcher for
- 24:04Speaker 6: a day?
- 24:05Speaker 8: Well, I mean a lot of it is just to
- 24:07Speaker 8: occupy my time. But also like you know, like I
- 24:10Speaker 8: told all Job because she asked me the same thing,
- 24:12Speaker 8: I'm calling this like side quest.
- 24:14Speaker 7: So like I'm finding.
- 24:15Speaker 8: These little activities that otherwise I probably wouldn't do if
- 24:18Speaker 8: I'm active.
- 24:19Speaker 7: When I'm active on the roster, so I might as
- 24:21Speaker 7: well just.
- 24:23Speaker 8: Branch out, learn a few things or just to keep
- 24:26Speaker 8: myself like busy, or engage in different areas, you know,
- 24:30Speaker 8: like the world of rehab, especially a long one becomes
- 24:33Speaker 8: very like routine oriented and you do the same thing
- 24:36Speaker 8: over and over. So this is just like it gives
- 24:38Speaker 8: me like a little bit opportunity to take a step
- 24:41Speaker 8: back and then like enjoy or like be grateful for
- 24:45Speaker 8: a lot of things. But also like it takes it
- 24:46Speaker 8: puts into perspective all of the work that a lot
- 24:48Speaker 8: of people do. You know, I shadow Pete Mackie, and
- 24:51Speaker 8: I got to see firsthand how he goes about his reports,
- 24:55Speaker 8: the preparation, how much you know, how much time before
- 24:58Speaker 8: the game before the series, He's spends giving us the
- 25:01Speaker 8: best information with Anderson de la ross are booping catch
- 25:05Speaker 8: and one of my really good friends. I just wanted
- 25:07Speaker 8: to see the dynamic of the bullpens, which I thought
- 25:09Speaker 8: it was super cool. I got to be in the
- 25:12Speaker 8: bullpen a few times in the minor leagues or my
- 25:14Speaker 8: first Big Leaks spring training, and the bullpen is just
- 25:17Speaker 8: a different it's a different vibe, it's a different dynamics.
- 25:19Speaker 7: At least in the minor leagues.
- 25:21Speaker 8: It was a lawless place because there's not even a
- 25:23Speaker 8: bullpend coach in the minor leagues. It was just like
- 25:25Speaker 8: the oldest guy in the bullpen was like the bullpen coach.
- 25:27Speaker 8: But it was just a lawless kind of place. Uh,
- 25:30Speaker 8: And it's a lot of fun. The vibes are different,
- 25:32Speaker 8: so that was really cool to see. Whenever like the
- 25:34Speaker 8: phone rang, how everyone just shifted their focus to the
- 25:38Speaker 8: phone and like Troy Hawkins are booking coach and then
- 25:41Speaker 8: whoever name they the team wanted to get hot, you know,
- 25:45Speaker 8: like the demeanor, the attitude, the face completely changed because
- 25:49Speaker 8: it's go time. It's game time for them. But you know,
- 25:52Speaker 8: like I also started doing like the the moment segment
- 25:55Speaker 8: for twin CV and that I did it with Andrew
- 25:58Speaker 8: Morris and Connor Prilly.
- 25:59Speaker 7: So a little bit of that too, a little bit
- 26:02Speaker 7: of TV.
- 26:02Speaker 8: Time, you know, learn from the best from all during
- 26:05Speaker 8: how she goes about her business. So I was all
- 26:07Speaker 8: for giving that a shot and translating. It's been fun.
- 26:10Speaker 8: I love it, or interpreting, sorry you tell me it's interpreting.
- 26:15Speaker 8: Interpreting has been fun. And I mean it's hard. It's
- 26:19Speaker 8: hard to talk to the media. It's hard to say
- 26:21Speaker 8: things on live TV. So if I'm if I'm able
- 26:25Speaker 8: to provide some help for the guys that are, you know,
- 26:27Speaker 8: wanting to wanted to like say, say a few things
- 26:30Speaker 8: here and there, you know, like by all means.
- 26:32Speaker 7: And again it's another side QUESZ that I get to.
- 26:34Speaker 8: Do and next month and I joined Corey up in
- 26:38Speaker 8: the booth. So we gave down on a shot last
- 26:41Speaker 8: year for only one game, and I think it's gonna
- 26:43Speaker 8: be way more than one game this year, which I'm
- 26:46Speaker 8: all foreign and just I've been in the I've been
- 26:51Speaker 8: able to be in a couple of the heaters meetings
- 26:53Speaker 8: before they prepare for the game. So I've been in
- 26:55Speaker 8: the room for a few of those and see how
- 26:58Speaker 8: you know, same thing, how many numbers the hitting which
- 27:00Speaker 8: is pull up to provide the hitters with the most
- 27:03Speaker 8: precise concise information tendencies, patterns of the guys.
- 27:08Speaker 7: They'll be facing.
- 27:09Speaker 8: So sitting in a few of those just brought me
- 27:11Speaker 8: a lot of perspective of like, oh, like this is
- 27:14Speaker 8: this could be how other teams prepare when I'm about
- 27:16Speaker 8: to pitch, you know, like the numbers the day that
- 27:18Speaker 8: they throw out there.
- 27:19Speaker 7: So that was also pretty eye opening for.
- 27:20Speaker 6: Me with with interpreting, like how old were you when
- 27:24Speaker 6: you felt comfortable giving your own first English interview? Like
- 27:29Speaker 6: was was that something that was natural to you? Or
- 27:31Speaker 6: was that something did you use interpreters early in your
- 27:33Speaker 6: career too?
- 27:34Speaker 8: No, I never used an interpreter, And okay, I just
- 27:39Speaker 8: I enjoyed public speaking. It doesn't really find finds me
- 27:43Speaker 8: or anything like I'm able to. I mean, in school,
- 27:46Speaker 8: I used to give a ton tons of presentations or
- 27:49Speaker 8: projects and all of that, and my dad used to
- 27:51Speaker 8: tell me, you know, it's all about projecting yourself with confident,
- 27:55Speaker 8: you know, like, and the cool thing about confidence no
- 27:58Speaker 8: one knows if it's real or fake. So just be eloquent,
- 28:02Speaker 8: say things in a low manner, you know, sound confidence,
- 28:06Speaker 8: pronounce your words, enunciate your words. So my first English interview,
- 28:11Speaker 8: I think it was in twenty sixteen. I was going
- 28:13Speaker 8: through a really good strength in low Way, the Clinton
- 28:15Speaker 8: lumber Kings and then one of the local newspapers wanted
- 28:19Speaker 8: me for like an interview, so that was my first one,
- 28:22Speaker 8: and then getting called up to the big leagues in
- 28:24Speaker 8: twenty eighteen.
- 28:25Speaker 7: The same day I got called up.
- 28:26Speaker 8: That was the first time that I had like a
- 28:27Speaker 8: camera in front of me and like another couple of
- 28:29Speaker 8: bit writers going on.
- 28:30Speaker 7: But I was able to.
- 28:33Speaker 8: You know, I was able to say the things I
- 28:35Speaker 8: wanted to say and give the message I was trying
- 28:38Speaker 8: to give.
- 28:39Speaker 7: So, you know, thankfully. I don't want to say it's easy,
- 28:43Speaker 7: because nothing really is easy. But I was able to.
- 28:47Speaker 8: Find a good grounding when it came to you know,
- 28:49Speaker 8: talking to the media or live TV or things like that.
- 28:52Speaker 6: Did you did you the first had you interpreted before this?
- 28:56Speaker 6: For anybody? Besides you know, these guys.
- 28:59Speaker 7: In the leaks.
- 29:00Speaker 8: I would alone, like when I was in the low levels,
- 29:02Speaker 8: probably like rookie ball low Way a little bit.
- 29:05Speaker 7: If no one in our.
- 29:07Speaker 8: Coaching staff was Spanish speaking, and they wanted to like
- 29:10Speaker 8: give a message big group or someone specific, I would
- 29:13Speaker 8: like interpret like you know, the coaching directions or like
- 29:16Speaker 8: if it was just to a specific group, I would
- 29:19Speaker 8: do that. During extended spring training back in twenty fifteen,
- 29:22Speaker 8: I did it a couple of times, but it was
- 29:23Speaker 8: just because I knew I spoke the language and I
- 29:26Speaker 8: did it. So yeah, I did some interpreting when like
- 29:29Speaker 8: no one else in the room could do it. You know,
- 29:32Speaker 8: obviously if this year is the first time that I'm
- 29:33Speaker 8: doing it for like, okay, something that's going to be
- 29:36Speaker 8: printed on paper or where someone's going to actually like
- 29:39Speaker 8: use like that for like an article or something.
- 29:41Speaker 7: But I've been enjoying it so far.
- 29:42Speaker 6: Okay. Anyways, aside from that, so look, this is something
- 29:46Speaker 6: clearly that you were doing. This would not be something
- 29:49Speaker 6: that you would be doing unless you wanted to. What
- 29:52Speaker 6: is this what what are all these side quests doing
- 29:55Speaker 6: for you during this period because obviously, you know, obviously
- 29:58Speaker 6: the rehab side of things is very there's a lot
- 30:03Speaker 6: of work going on there, but like, what is this
- 30:05Speaker 6: giving you during this kind of down period where you're
- 30:07Speaker 6: not because you are traveling with the team and you
- 30:10Speaker 6: are around the guys, So like, what's that kind of
- 30:12Speaker 6: providing to you while you're going through this.
- 30:15Speaker 7: It's just it's bringing me a lot of perspective.
- 30:18Speaker 8: It's bringing me a lot of appreciation for what everyone
- 30:20Speaker 8: does around me. It brings me a lot of like
- 30:22Speaker 8: admiration because you know, like it's a big leaks whoever
- 30:25Speaker 8: it's at this level, it's the best or the aleite.
- 30:28Speaker 7: Of what we do. So it just brings a lot
- 30:30Speaker 7: of appreciation for that. It brings me a lot of perspective.
- 30:33Speaker 8: And it's also like when I think of like going
- 30:36Speaker 8: through rehab, I think of like getting better getting back
- 30:38Speaker 8: to pitching, But I also think of like growth. I
- 30:41Speaker 8: want to evolve, I want to get better in a
- 30:43Speaker 8: lot of different things. Because we all know it's like
- 30:45Speaker 8: a year long rehab and twelve months are going to
- 30:48Speaker 8: go by whether I do it right or do it wrong.
- 30:51Speaker 8: Twelve months are going to go by whether my only
- 30:53Speaker 8: focus is rehabbing and pitching, or whether like I still
- 30:56Speaker 8: try to grow and a lot of things. So might
- 30:58Speaker 8: as well take advantage of the time, say, yeah, like
- 31:00Speaker 8: getting back to pitching is my my north star, Like oh,
- 31:03Speaker 8: that's a priority. I want to get back to pitching.
- 31:04Speaker 8: I want to come back better than ever. But I
- 31:06Speaker 8: also don't want twelve months to go by where like
- 31:08Speaker 8: where time go or like what else did I do
- 31:11Speaker 8: with my time? What else did I do with my
- 31:13Speaker 8: twelve months? So this is just like a way of
- 31:15Speaker 8: like staying engaged with you know, things that I want
- 31:20Speaker 8: to learn, things that I may want to do in
- 31:22Speaker 8: the future, or just like different ways to support like
- 31:25Speaker 8: the team, not just the players, but everyone else around us.
- 31:27Speaker 8: And being with the team also provides me with a
- 31:30Speaker 8: lot of like saying in the present moment, in the
- 31:32Speaker 8: present moment, not getting too ahead of myself, not getting
- 31:35Speaker 8: two down if I'm feeling you know, like you know,
- 31:37Speaker 8: like through rehab you have those really down days where
- 31:40Speaker 8: like the routines like catching up to you or like
- 31:44Speaker 8: you have a realization moment where like okay, like I'm
- 31:46Speaker 8: three months out of surgery, it's still nine more months.
- 31:49Speaker 8: So like staying with the group, saying in these environments
- 31:52Speaker 8: like okay, but like it keeps me looking forward. This
- 31:54Speaker 8: is the environment I want to get back to. This
- 31:56Speaker 8: is where I belong, This where I'm going. I'm going
- 31:58Speaker 8: to be next year. And if I'm gonna be next year,
- 32:00Speaker 8: let me do it with being a better version of myself.
- 32:04Speaker 6: Oh that's cool, that's really cool, Pablo.
- 32:06Speaker 9: Your injury was a brutal blow, obviously for a team
- 32:10Speaker 9: that was expecting starting pitching to be a strength. It
- 32:14Speaker 9: still has been a strength, even though most of the
- 32:16Speaker 9: staff has endured some kind of injuries. But I'm sure
- 32:19Speaker 9: it's hard to sit there and watch it. But has
- 32:21Speaker 9: it been inspiring in some ways to watch the starting
- 32:24Speaker 9: rotation still fight through it and be one of the
- 32:26Speaker 9: positives of the team this year.
- 32:27Speaker 7: Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 32:28Speaker 8: It's always inspiring to see the starting pitcher, the starting
- 32:32Speaker 8: pitchers like picking up where they left up, where there's
- 32:37Speaker 8: like with what they're working on. You know a lot
- 32:38Speaker 8: of these young guys in spring training, they were working
- 32:41Speaker 8: in some things, and you know, when you're young, you're like, okay,
- 32:44Speaker 8: like I have time to work on this because I'm
- 32:46Speaker 8: probably not gonna make the team right away. And then
- 32:48Speaker 8: like things happen, injuries are ever present. They're always gonna
- 32:52Speaker 8: show well, but unexpected times. And then like to see
- 32:54Speaker 8: these guys coming up and then still pick up where
- 32:58Speaker 8: they lift over, like they're forming, they're having good results
- 33:02Speaker 8: while working or doing the things that we're supposed to
- 33:04Speaker 8: get better.
- 33:04Speaker 7: And you know, like Connor p with a curveball.
- 33:07Speaker 8: It's a new pitch and he's getting a lot of
- 33:09Speaker 8: like swing and miss with it attached with the splitter
- 33:12Speaker 8: throwing it more. And so it's like really cool to
- 33:14Speaker 8: see these guys feel inspired and confident enough to show
- 33:18Speaker 8: up and then fill up whatever shoes they have to
- 33:20Speaker 8: feel or like help out in any way they can.
- 33:22Speaker 7: And just do their things.
- 33:24Speaker 8: So it's really inspired from a starting pictures picture perspective,
- 33:28Speaker 8: because you know, like I get to un fortunate enough
- 33:31Speaker 8: that I get to be in the dog out to
- 33:32Speaker 8: watch them perform, and then I watch them throw their
- 33:34Speaker 8: boopins when my when my time works out and I'm
- 33:36Speaker 8: able to go out there and like I like to
- 33:38Speaker 8: like watch a few of those here and there with
- 33:40Speaker 8: the home on the road. But start, you can never
- 33:43Speaker 8: have enough starting pitching pitching in We've been challenged, we've
- 33:47Speaker 8: been tested by having to you know, call someone up
- 33:50Speaker 8: that it's is happy to get that opportunity and he's
- 33:54Speaker 8: happy to like bring us like a.
- 33:56Speaker 7: Lot of good quality inning. So it's been really fun
- 33:58Speaker 7: to see that from from the dog out.
- 34:01Speaker 6: Well, hey, look, I know you've got another meeting coming
- 34:04Speaker 6: up here, so we'll let you go, but I want
- 34:06Speaker 6: to ask before you go, you have any other interesting
- 34:09Speaker 6: side quests planned coming up here, anything you want to
- 34:12Speaker 6: dive into, maybe like check out the beer sales during
- 34:15Speaker 6: the game, or you know, do something around the stadium.
- 34:20Speaker 8: Well, one day I want to I want to shadow
- 34:22Speaker 8: Mitch hest which was kind enough to borrow me his
- 34:24Speaker 8: desk right now to for this interview, So he's gonna
- 34:27Speaker 8: be the next one.
- 34:28Speaker 7: Even though last year when he had me in the press.
- 34:30Speaker 8: Books he told me good and cheer, which was shocking
- 34:32Speaker 8: for me. But maybe one day I'll be seeing next
- 34:35Speaker 8: to him during the game.
- 34:37Speaker 6: That's that's awesome. I know fans loved when you were
- 34:40Speaker 6: in the booth last year, so I'm sure that'll be
- 34:43Speaker 6: something they look forward to here in the next couple
- 34:45Speaker 6: of months. But thank you so much for the time,
- 34:47Speaker 6: and we really thank you appreciate. Yeah, you're first guest
- 34:51Speaker 6: on Twin Citas territory, so thank you.
- 34:54Speaker 9: Take your choice
