- 0:29Speaker 1: dot com. Good morning, everybody, Happy Wednesday. Have an amazing
- 0:36Speaker 1: show for everybody today, Bro Show people live for the
- 0:39Speaker 1: pounds back. Actually, no, it's thank you for having me
- 0:42Speaker 1: it is.
- 0:42Speaker 3: That's right.
- 0:43Speaker 4: When's the after all?
- 0:45Speaker 1: People getting a lot of BRO shows this week. That's
- 0:47Speaker 1: how the schedule goes. Schedule goes. We're gonna do our
- 0:49Speaker 1: best here, so we're gonna kick off Donald Trump some
- 0:52Speaker 1: major comments abroad in Ankora, basically saying the Memorandum of
- 0:56Speaker 1: understanding is over, as well as this East fire. This
- 1:00Speaker 1: follows retaliatory strikes between Iran and the United States. Iran
- 1:04Speaker 1: then firing back at US basis probably the biggest exchange
- 1:07Speaker 1: of fire since the ceasefire began. I don't even know
- 1:11Speaker 1: who the date is at this point about yeah, it
- 1:14Speaker 1: doesn't matter. Along with probably the biggest news is the
- 1:16Speaker 1: revocation of American or sorry, the reimposition of American sanctions
- 1:22Speaker 1: on Iranian oil, almost certainly to invite a major Iranian
- 1:25Speaker 1: response and perhaps a resumption of the war. Oil markets
- 1:28Speaker 1: popping a little bit, but still delusional as has been
- 1:31Speaker 1: the case.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Turkey. We're going to talk about that.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Ryan and Emily covered a little bit of this on Monday,
- 1:36Speaker 1: but BB Netanya who all over American cable news to
- 1:40Speaker 1: tell us why Turkey is actually our greatest enemy and
- 1:44Speaker 1: Iran's over now it's all about Turkey. Trump making some
- 1:48Speaker 1: comments there Bb putting his full thumb on the scale
- 1:51Speaker 1: to prevent the sale of F thirty five's, and BB
- 1:53Speaker 1: actually saying some of the quiet part out loud. So
- 1:55Speaker 1: this will be a major tussle between the US and Israel.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Wonder who I would put my money in terms of
- 2:00Speaker 1: winning that fight. We are going to talk about Graham
- 2:03Speaker 1: Platner situation in Maine. There is a basically I mean,
- 2:07Speaker 1: I would describe it as a full blown coup attempt
- 2:09Speaker 1: now currently happening in Maine.
- 2:11Speaker 4: You can evaluate for yourself.
- 2:13Speaker 1: But the executive director of the main Democratic party out
- 2:17Speaker 1: this morning, Ryan's saying that Graham Platner should have absolutely
- 2:21Speaker 1: no say whatsoever in who replaces him. Full scale civil
- 2:25Speaker 1: war between the establishment and Graham Plattner in perhaps who
- 2:29Speaker 1: will replace him. It does appear all signs currently point
- 2:31Speaker 1: to him dropping out, but we're not entirely sure yet.
- 2:34Speaker 4: We are going to talk about me too again.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I know that this is a bit difficult to bros
- 2:38Speaker 1: on The bro Show who are litigating this, but actually
- 2:41Speaker 1: a lot of this is going to be reporting. Ryan
- 2:43Speaker 1: has some exclusive reporting that he can show everybody for
- 2:46Speaker 1: some of the text messages that led up to this
- 2:49Speaker 1: exchange between Graham Plattner and his current accuser, which Politico
- 2:54Speaker 1: had but did not release, which in and of itself,
- 2:56Speaker 1: in my opinion, is immediate journalism. It is not how
- 2:59Speaker 1: to doournalism whatsoever. This is in addition to some new
- 3:03Speaker 1: interviews from CNN and others of people who are accusing
- 3:07Speaker 1: Grand Platner of improper behavior, and a lot of this
- 3:11Speaker 1: is reminding us of the eight year ago kind of
- 3:14Speaker 1: litigation through me too, and honestly, a lot of the
- 3:16Speaker 1: journalistic standards here. And you do not have to in
- 3:19Speaker 1: any way saying grand Platner is innocent or grand Platner
- 3:21Speaker 1: did not act very terribly, but to say unequivocally the
- 3:24Speaker 1: way the media is handling the story is genuinely irresponsible.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So we're going to go through that, and then Ryan,
- 3:30Speaker 1: you've got Kai new Kirk who's going to join you.
- 3:33Speaker 5: Sager stumbled into a Wednesday show here, what are all
- 3:36Speaker 5: of these socialists doing?
- 3:37Speaker 1: One run these DSA communists. But this guy, I'm going
- 3:41Speaker 1: to make an exception for this dude because he's currently
- 3:45Speaker 1: running for office in Arizona and is what is he
- 3:48Speaker 1: a filed official complaint with the Arizona Attorney General alleging
- 3:52Speaker 1: foreign interference by the State of Israel via a massive
- 3:56Speaker 1: spending bomb against him. So any American who's under attack
- 3:59Speaker 1: by the ISRAE lobby America first to support them. And
- 4:02Speaker 1: then you have Ryan A candidate David Morales Essa is.
- 4:07Speaker 5: Trying to take over provident evidence. And as people say,
- 4:10Speaker 5: as goes providence goes.
- 4:11Speaker 1: As goes, Providence goes, Yet so goes Providence.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Great city though, don't get me wrong, great city. I
- 4:19Speaker 4: got married in Roeland.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I'll always love it. Okay, before we get to any
- 4:22Speaker 1: of that, thank you to everybody who's been subscribing to
- 4:24Speaker 1: the show Breakingpoints dot com if you're able to, but

- 4:53Speaker 5: So, I promised to put a link into yesterday's newsletter
- 4:55Speaker 5: and I forgot. I'm going to try to stop doing that.
- 4:58Speaker 5: I'm really going to try better.
- 5:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 5: If I say I'm gonna put a Lincoln, I'm gonna
- 5:01Speaker 5: put a Lincoln. Also one fun thing today, drop in
- 5:04Speaker 5: Sight News turns two. Wow, is our second anniversary. I
- 5:06Speaker 5: remember like it was yesterday.
- 5:07Speaker 4: I really was.
- 5:09Speaker 5: I don't know if it's been super long.
- 5:11Speaker 1: And I feel whenever we hit our five year annivers
- 5:13Speaker 1: like five years, it's happened yesterday. I guess a lot
- 5:16Speaker 1: has happened too.
- 5:17Speaker 4: So there we go.
- 5:18Speaker 1: All right, let's go ahead and start with Iran. As
- 5:20Speaker 1: Ryan said, some crazy stuff happening there. Trump basically saying
- 5:24Speaker 1: the ceasefire is over in Ankra. Let's take a listen.
- 5:27Speaker 7: I think it's over. I don't want to deal with them.
- 5:30Speaker 7: There's scum. You know what scum is. There's scum, there's
- 5:33Speaker 7: sick people. They're led by sick people, and they're vicious,
- 5:38Speaker 7: violent people, and if they had a nuclear weapon, they'd
- 5:41Speaker 7: use it. As far as I'm concerned, it's over. I'll
- 5:44Speaker 7: speak to our negotiators. They want to negotiate. They're good people,
- 5:48Speaker 7: Steve Woodcuff, Jared Kusher, but they have to come back
- 5:51Speaker 7: to me. As far as I'm concerned, it's just a
- 5:54Speaker 7: waste of time dealing with them. They're liars.
- 5:57Speaker 8: We make a deal, and then if I make a
- 5:59Speaker 8: deal with him, we have a deal, and who goes out?
- 6:01Speaker 8: He talks, We make a deal. Everyone's agreed. No nuclear weapon,
- 6:06Speaker 8: we make a deal, they go outside, talk to the press.
- 6:08Speaker 8: They say, we never even talked about it. There's something
- 6:10Speaker 8: wrong with them. They're cuckoo. As far as I'm concerned,
- 6:15Speaker 8: you'se over.
- 6:16Speaker 1: As far as I'm concerned, it's over, he says now
- 6:18Speaker 1: multiple times. So let's go and put the next one.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Take a listen, where he talks specifically about the strikes
- 6:25Speaker 1: on Iran, describing them as twenty to one in terms
- 6:28Speaker 1: of what the US received.
- 6:29Speaker 4: Let's take a listen.
- 6:30Speaker 7: We have attacked Tuary powerfully last night, the very dangerous
- 6:39Speaker 7: people from Iran. They're sick. There's something wrong with him.
- 6:43Speaker 7: We say, go and do your funeral stuff. And instead
- 6:47Speaker 7: of that, they start shooting rockets at chips yesterday. And
- 6:52Speaker 7: so we hit him very hard last night, very hard.
- 6:54Speaker 7: I would say twenty to one, twenty times tougher, and
- 7:00Speaker 7: every time we hit. And of course they're dirty players,
- 7:03Speaker 7: so they go after everyone, probably including me. I've been
- 7:07Speaker 7: number one on their list for years. And there are
- 7:10Speaker 7: a bunch of scum. You want to know that, this scum,
- 7:14Speaker 7: and so we don't like them. I don't like them,
- 7:19Speaker 7: and they're evil people. And it's the denuclearization of Iran,
- 7:23Speaker 7: and we're gonna de nuke it. We're not gonna let
- 7:26Speaker 7: them because they're crazy and they can't have a nuclear weapon,
- 7:30Speaker 7: and they go around killing people. They've killed thousands and
- 7:33Speaker 7: thousands of our soldiers, They've killed hundreds of thousands of
- 7:37Speaker 7: innocent people.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Evil people were going to denuke it. This is all
- 7:42Speaker 1: I mean. Look, let's put a one up here just
- 7:45Speaker 1: to show you even the shift and language from the
- 7:48Speaker 1: United States. The US Central Command Forces have begun launching
- 7:50Speaker 1: a series of powerful strikes against Iran. No, this time,
- 7:53Speaker 1: they don't even say powerful self defense strikes like they
- 7:56Speaker 1: usually do, which in and of itself is a meaningless
- 7:58Speaker 1: phrase to impose heavy costs for targeting and attacking commercial
- 8:01Speaker 1: shipping crewed by innocent civilians in an international waterway. The
- 8:05Speaker 1: US strikes are in response to Iranian attacks on three
- 8:07Speaker 1: commercial vessels that were transiting the Strait of horm Moves.
- 8:10Speaker 1: So what this basically comes down to is a complete
- 8:13Speaker 1: disagreement on what it actually means to have the memorandum
- 8:18Speaker 1: manamorandum of understanding and the phrase specifically that says free
- 8:22Speaker 1: passage to the Strait of horm Moves.
- 8:24Speaker 4: The Iranian understanding.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Of the of the phrase free passage is yes, you
- 8:29Speaker 1: can go through for free through with coordination with Iranian authorities.
- 8:34Speaker 1: The American version of that is, we can go through
- 8:37Speaker 1: however we want, including through routes set up by the
- 8:40Speaker 1: United States military and the government of Oman. Iran is
- 8:43Speaker 1: desperately and is basically willing to blow up the entire
- 8:46Speaker 1: ceasefire over. Basically, they are threatening to blow up an
- 8:51Speaker 1: entire cease fire over the idea of control over the
- 8:54Speaker 1: Strait of Horror moves because it is their ultimate leverage
- 8:57Speaker 1: that they were able to exert in this war. The
- 8:59Speaker 1: economic news basically as Robert Pape has described it here
- 9:02Speaker 1: on our show, and why I think that's very important
- 9:05Speaker 1: is just that there is a total mismatch between what
- 9:08Speaker 1: the US wants and what Iran wants. Iran wants not
- 9:11Speaker 1: only security for itself for all time, but also to
- 9:14Speaker 1: increase its overall regional power. So that's why the ceasefire
- 9:17Speaker 1: in and of itself, they don't particularly care about taking
- 9:20Speaker 1: some more of these smaller strikes, which on Kasham Island
- 9:23Speaker 1: or around the Strait of Hormuz. The United States needs
- 9:26Speaker 1: an immediate drop in oil prices remember Brent crude still
- 9:29Speaker 1: around seventy six dollars per barrel. The national price of
- 9:32Speaker 1: gasoline is still some three seventy, still a full dollar
- 9:36Speaker 1: above where it was before the war even began. So
- 9:39Speaker 1: you could see is Trump while he can say all
- 9:41Speaker 1: of these things, he can't fully resume the war either.
- 9:44Speaker 1: So we're in this very difficult status quo where oil
- 9:47Speaker 1: is going to remain high, and in the interim you
- 9:50Speaker 1: have chaos. You know, really in the straight RNE, you've
- 9:53Speaker 1: got shipping slowing down. You had a Katari LNG tanker
- 9:56Speaker 1: which got hit, which is a huge, huge deal because
- 10:00Speaker 1: Katar was one of their major much more explosive. Yeah, yeah, exactly,
- 10:04Speaker 1: much more flammable.
- 10:04Speaker 5: And we can look at a bullet five of the
- 10:07Speaker 5: MoU reads the Islamic Republic of Iran will make arrangements
- 10:12Speaker 5: using its best efforts for the safe passage of commercial
- 10:14Speaker 5: vessels with no charge for sixty days only from the
- 10:18Speaker 5: Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman and vice versas.
- 10:21Speaker 5: The Straight of Hormuz. The traffic of commercial vehicles will
- 10:25Speaker 5: immediately start. So Iran is clearly reading that they will
- 10:29Speaker 5: make the arrangements using their best efforts for the safe
- 10:32Speaker 5: passage in coordination and in coordination with oman Now, what
- 10:37Speaker 5: the US has been doing is they've been trying to
- 10:40Speaker 5: tell all of these ships go through the Southern passage
- 10:44Speaker 5: that is on the Omani side, and do not coordinate
- 10:47Speaker 5: with Iran. Iran isn't asking for money, but they want
- 10:50Speaker 5: basically give me your license plate, license and registration. And
- 10:55Speaker 5: the US does not want to institutionalize the process of
- 11:00Speaker 5: these international ships working with Iran to go through because
- 11:04Speaker 5: that is then effectively seeding the idea that they control it.
- 11:08Speaker 5: But if that was something that if you ask me,
- 11:11Speaker 5: that the US wanted, maybe they should have negotiated for
- 11:14Speaker 5: that better exactly in the talks, like that's where you
- 11:17Speaker 5: work that out. So Iran is saying, hey, we didn't
- 11:21Speaker 5: get their license and registration. We're hitting them. Now. Trump
- 11:25Speaker 5: has a huge problem here. Even twenty to one strikes
- 11:30Speaker 5: are not going to persuade Iran that their position should
- 11:35Speaker 5: change on this question. Yes, Trump has already demonstrated that
- 11:39Speaker 5: he does not have the military capacity to bend Iran's
- 11:43Speaker 5: will on the strait of her moves like we all
- 11:45Speaker 5: watched it happen, And so that leaves either massive escalation
- 11:51Speaker 5: and occupation of Iran and complete decapitation of not just
- 11:55Speaker 5: the regime, but like complete regime change, and you install
- 11:59Speaker 5: the show or whatever like you.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Need the SHOT's Philson who lives here in Maryland.
- 12:04Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, so that there's that, or there's the negotiations.
- 12:09Speaker 5: This back and forth where they fire on ships and
- 12:13Speaker 5: we fire on them does not change the status quo,
- 12:16Speaker 5: right They still like right now, if you're a ship,
- 12:20Speaker 5: no matter how many times the US has just bombed
- 12:22Speaker 5: run over the last twenty four hours, you still better
- 12:24Speaker 5: coordinate with Iran to or you're gonna get hit.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Let's put a four up here on the screen. This
- 12:28Speaker 1: is about transits through the Strait of horn Moves. You
- 12:31Speaker 1: can actually see what they look like in terms of
- 12:35Speaker 1: how they have gone down, halted, transit anchored instead of
- 12:39Speaker 1: entering the strait.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Remember I mean, whenever.
- 12:41Speaker 1: We say, oh is the straight open, it's really up
- 12:43Speaker 1: to Iran, and it's up to the insurance company and
- 12:45Speaker 1: then the company itself. The company says we're not going through,
- 12:48Speaker 1: and insurance says, nope, don't do it.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Well, then we're not going to.
- 12:51Speaker 1: You can actually literally see the circle there where a
- 12:53Speaker 1: ship is refusing to go through the Strait, So we
- 12:56Speaker 1: are not even close to resuming normal traffic through the straight.
- 13:00Speaker 1: This was already a problem. We've had multiple strikes now
- 13:03Speaker 1: by Iran in the Strait. We had what was it,
- 13:05Speaker 1: a renewal of said ceasefire. Nobody's saying that that can't
- 13:09Speaker 1: happen tomorrow. But this type of language from Trump combined.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I think you guys covered when I was gone, the
- 13:16Speaker 1: comments from the Vice President Jade Vance, where he was like, look,
- 13:19Speaker 1: the ceasefire gives us an opportunity to rearm. Who can
- 13:23Speaker 1: restock our oil? I'm like, uh, well, you know, if
- 13:25Speaker 1: I'm Iran and I'm listening to that, I'm like, well,
- 13:27Speaker 1: maybe I should start shooting, and now I should never
- 13:29Speaker 1: stop shooting.
- 13:30Speaker 5: Actually, I'm not going to let you sneak past I think.
- 13:32Speaker 1: And also remember, you know, Iran has internal politics too.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Take a look at the funeral where it was some
- 13:39Speaker 1: millions of people, and guess what. There is a huge
- 13:43Speaker 1: faction of the Iranian government who opposed the ceasefire from
- 13:45Speaker 1: day one, huge faction of the IRGC who said you
- 13:49Speaker 1: are making a catastrophic mistake. They're going to rearm and
- 13:52Speaker 1: they're going to bomb us and According to Tret de Parsi,
- 13:55Speaker 1: the internal belief inside of Iran is that Israel in
- 13:57Speaker 1: the United States will resume the war within six months,
- 14:00Speaker 1: exactly like they did the last time. And so this
- 14:02Speaker 1: is all setting the stage potentially for a major conflagration
- 14:06Speaker 1: or confrontation. This will not happen tomorrow, necessarily, it could
- 14:10Speaker 1: happen months from now, but on again, off again, we're
- 14:13Speaker 1: probably not going to have time to cover the situation
- 14:15Speaker 1: in Ukraine. Perfect example, the critical nexus of the battle
- 14:19Speaker 1: in Ukraine is now where you have a development of
- 14:22Speaker 1: the drone threat. You have Moscow and Ukraine locked in
- 14:24Speaker 1: the contest, ballistic missiles they're flying over the top, and
- 14:27Speaker 1: Ukraine having the ability to strike deep inside of Russia
- 14:30Speaker 1: to Russian oil refineries. That's where the strategic calculus leaps
- 14:33Speaker 1: to another level. And it's very unfortunate because we have
- 14:36Speaker 1: effectively entered forever war territory here. In terms of the logic,
- 14:40Speaker 1: it's easier to just mow the lawn with Iran. It's
- 14:42Speaker 1: easier for Iran to just constantly, you know, sit there
- 14:45Speaker 1: and be like, look, we're not getting you know, completely
- 14:47Speaker 1: pounded by bombs. We can lob a few bombs and
- 14:49Speaker 1: straits of horn moves and continue to negotiate over time.
- 14:52Speaker 1: That instability in the global market and order is exactly
- 14:58Speaker 1: what is diminishing US power will keep having a magnet
- 15:01Speaker 1: for the US, and it's leading to crazy situations like
- 15:05Speaker 1: Asia Pacific abandoning the United States. The European NATO summit,
- 15:09Speaker 1: half of it with the European leaders is about how
- 15:11Speaker 1: can we stop being dependent on America? Like, we can't
- 15:13Speaker 1: be dependent on these people the entire world seeing a
- 15:17Speaker 1: pushback and America not even having the ability even if
- 15:20Speaker 1: they wanted to arm Ukraine today we can't. We don't
- 15:22Speaker 1: have anything we use.
- 15:24Speaker 4: It to do at all.
- 15:24Speaker 5: And to add to your point about Iran's internal calculations,
- 15:28Speaker 5: yesterday there were two million plus mourners in Najaf, Iraq
- 15:34Speaker 5: for the Iatola so and the morning in Karbila is
- 15:40Speaker 5: expected to be even bigger than that. So what Iran
- 15:44Speaker 5: is seeing is millions of people not just pouring out
- 15:49Speaker 5: into the streets of Iran, but also also Iraq. So
- 15:53Speaker 5: they're seeing themselves. They're seeing themselves you know, solidify and
- 15:57Speaker 5: develop as a significant regional power. And so yeah, twenty
- 16:02Speaker 5: to one air strikes from President Trump aren't aren't going
- 16:05Speaker 5: to do it. We can put up a five. The
- 16:08Speaker 5: geopolitical implications of this Katari ship getting hit are are
- 16:14Speaker 5: significant as well. You know, Cutter had reached some kind
- 16:17Speaker 5: of agreement with Iran, and what Iran is showing here
- 16:20Speaker 5: is that we may we may have an agreement, but
- 16:24Speaker 5: if you're not respecting the rules that we're setting up
- 16:29Speaker 5: to get ships through the straight up our moves, your
- 16:31Speaker 5: even your LNG tanker is going to get hit, which
- 16:35Speaker 5: everyone here is playing with fire like, could be absolutely
- 16:39Speaker 5: you know, could catastrophic attack, you know, for everybody on board,
- 16:43Speaker 5: anybody nearby, and also ecologically for the entire for the
- 16:47Speaker 5: entire region. So far that they've been almost lucky that
- 16:53Speaker 5: this is all that's happened so far. Put up a
- 16:55Speaker 5: six from drop site. Up to five ships now may
- 17:01Speaker 5: have been hit just over the past the key days.
- 17:03Speaker 1: There is that southern Omani route, which is as far
- 17:06Speaker 1: away from Bran as possibility where you can really say far,
- 17:10Speaker 1: because it's.
- 17:11Speaker 5: Like obviously closing up.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Yeah, it's really not that far. That's the entire problem
- 17:15Speaker 1: with the geography.
- 17:17Speaker 5: Drones and hand grenade for.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Exactly right, and speedboats if that's something you want to
- 17:21Speaker 1: do too. And so we're just locked in this situation.
- 17:24Speaker 1: How will it, you know, resolve? Who knows again? And
- 17:27Speaker 1: that's why it's always important to say. Trump says it's over,
- 17:30Speaker 1: you can't take that to the bank. Trump says that
- 17:32Speaker 1: it's back on. You can't take that to the bank either.
- 17:34Speaker 1: There's all of these, but I will.
- 17:36Speaker 5: Say, as far as I'm concerned, it's back there.
- 17:37Speaker 1: There are signals that are so in the same way
- 17:39Speaker 1: that the JD ascension and Geneva, the Lake Concerned summit
- 17:44Speaker 1: was it was a positive sign. But you can't take
- 17:46Speaker 1: back these comments about Israel or any of that.
- 17:48Speaker 4: You can't.
- 17:49Speaker 1: These are all good. Well, now we're seeing signs in
- 17:51Speaker 1: the opposite direction. So one of the worst signs I
- 17:54Speaker 1: saw Pete Hegseth was on his way it Israel.
- 17:56Speaker 4: This it just got canceled. Well, bit of a problem.
- 17:59Speaker 4: Why does it do it get canceled? You could read
- 18:01Speaker 4: it two ways.
- 18:02Speaker 1: One is there Matt at bebe over his comments on Turkey,
- 18:04Speaker 1: which we're about to talk about. One is we're about
- 18:06Speaker 1: to go back to war, so he needs to be
- 18:07Speaker 1: at the Pentagon. So both of these are you know,
- 18:09Speaker 1: I mean, one would be a positive, one would be
- 18:11Speaker 1: a negative. You also have Secretary Rubio who's traveling with
- 18:15Speaker 1: the president, not the Vice president who's here in Washington. Well,
- 18:18Speaker 1: well you've got the vice president away from the president.
- 18:21Speaker 1: You've got the hawkish Secretary of State with the president
- 18:24Speaker 1: along with Secretary of Defense, two of the people who
- 18:27Speaker 1: opposed the ceasefire initially and always thought that it was
- 18:29Speaker 1: going to be a total failure. So all of these
- 18:32Speaker 1: tea leaves that we're reading around who are around Trump
- 18:35Speaker 1: and what they're urging him to do, et cetera. All
- 18:37Speaker 1: of this currently points in the direction of at least
- 18:41Speaker 1: a collapse of the memorandum understanding, which just leads to
- 18:44Speaker 1: even more instability, which means stock markets are going to
- 18:47Speaker 1: go down, oil prices will go slightly up, but no
- 18:50Speaker 1: way a return to normal, which is what everybody wanted
- 18:52Speaker 1: in the first place. Nobody wants this war except for Trump.
- 18:55Speaker 5: And we're down that ninety million barrels are in our
- 18:58Speaker 5: strategic reserve, that is, and we released I think six
- 19:01Speaker 5: million last week, so we're still going down. Ninety million
- 19:04Speaker 5: is nothing like you can see the bottom of that.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Look, yeah, the strategic patrol and reserve and much more. Okay,
- 19:11Speaker 1: let's get to the Turkey situation. Turning now to the
- 19:16Speaker 1: situation with BB and Turkey, I mean they are full on.
- 19:20Speaker 1: So BB is furious right now. Let's put B one
- 19:23Speaker 1: up here. You guys can see it. Trump arrived in
- 19:26Speaker 1: Ankara to great fanfare. President Erdowan even met him on
- 19:30Speaker 1: the tarmac, which is such a huge deal. Apparently never
- 19:34Speaker 1: does that. And this show of ally ship between these
- 19:39Speaker 1: two long standing nations is throwing Israeli politics into complete chaos,
- 19:45Speaker 1: so much so that BB Netanyahoo has now taken to
- 19:48Speaker 1: Fox News and CNN, not his own press, to beg
- 19:52Speaker 1: the United States not to resume the sale of F
- 19:55Speaker 1: thirty five planes to Turkey, which of course is a
- 19:58Speaker 1: NATO ally and more important to you United States in
- 20:01Speaker 1: every way than Israel. But here he is saying it
- 20:04Speaker 1: will jeopardize not US security, but Israeli security, and that's
- 20:08Speaker 1: why we shouldn't do it.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Let's take a listen.
- 20:11Speaker 9: President Trump is in Turkey right now. He said this
- 20:13Speaker 9: morning he will consider selling F thirty five fighter jets
- 20:17Speaker 9: to Turkey, which is a reversal of a band he
- 20:20Speaker 9: put in place. You said yesterday that would quote upset
- 20:24Speaker 9: the power balance in the Middle East. Have you made
- 20:27Speaker 9: that clear to President Trump.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Yes, I have actually spoke to him several times about it.
- 20:34Speaker 3: And I think that everybody understands that notwithstanding the personal
- 20:40Speaker 3: friendship that President Trump has with Erdigan, it doesn't make
- 20:44Speaker 3: Turkey a friendly or a friendly state to the United States.
- 20:49Speaker 3: To the countrary, it's a regime that's infected with the
- 20:54Speaker 3: Muslim brotherhood, which hates the United States. He harbors Hamas,
- 20:58Speaker 3: the Hamas terras, he supports them, he finances them. He's
- 21:02Speaker 3: thrown his opponents in jail, all of them. He throws
- 21:05Speaker 3: more journalists in jail than anyone can understand. So he's
- 21:08Speaker 3: not exactly a model ally of the United States. But
- 21:12Speaker 3: even worse than that, he threatens Greece, a NATO ally.
- 21:15Speaker 3: He occupies half of Cyprus, another NATO country. And the
- 21:20Speaker 3: most important thing, and I put it right on the table,
- 21:23Speaker 3: he threatens to destroy my country, the one and only
- 21:27Speaker 3: Jewish state is Number two says that we have no
- 21:30Speaker 3: place among the nations, and you know what that means.
- 21:32Speaker 3: And his number three, the Interior Minister, says that he's
- 21:35Speaker 3: looking forward to be the governor of Jerusalem.
- 21:38Speaker 5: Hello, you know, we're a sovereign country.
- 21:40Speaker 9: He is considering giving the country these planes F thirty fives.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Well, as I said, it would destroy the power balance
- 21:52Speaker 3: in the Middle East because because Turkey I think has
- 21:58Speaker 3: aggressive aspirations, I mean say that they want to restore
- 22:01Speaker 3: the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire not only included Turkey,
- 22:05Speaker 3: it included many other countries, included uh Syria, and included
- 22:10Speaker 3: pieces of Jordan, included all of present day Israel, included
- 22:14Speaker 3: some Gulf countries. So this is this is not a
- 22:17Speaker 3: force for peace and stability.
- 22:19Speaker 5: And if you give.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Uh uh you know, this kind of radical regime that
- 22:24Speaker 3: admittedly smiles to America when it is necessary, smiles to
- 22:28Speaker 3: the President of the United States when is necessary. When
- 22:31Speaker 3: you've give them that power, you're going to see aggression
- 22:34Speaker 3: in its way. I wouldn't do that.
- 22:36Speaker 1: There's so much going on there, Ryan that you flag
- 22:38Speaker 1: number one, he's so concerned about journalists. Wow, Yes, the
- 22:41Speaker 1: person who murdered a bunch of journalists, he's very concerned
- 22:43Speaker 1: about journalists. Second, Turkey is occupying.
- 22:46Speaker 5: Anti occupation, anti in the occupation.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Yeah, you might as well be a Ryan Ryan.
- 22:51Speaker 5: Grant journalists, but the occupation A final.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Little quiet part out loud is this would threaten is
- 22:59Speaker 1: really air superiority in the region. That's what it's all about.
- 23:03Speaker 1: That's the whole thing.
- 23:04Speaker 5: That's the opposite of a balance.
- 23:05Speaker 1: It's the imbalance. The imbalance is balance to the Israelis.
- 23:08Speaker 1: The Israeli right to them is the right to not
- 23:11Speaker 1: only have their country, to have whatever is you would
- 23:15Speaker 1: define as Palestine is. To have half of Lebanon is,
- 23:18Speaker 1: to have half of Syria is. To bomb Qatar at
- 23:21Speaker 1: will is, to bomb Iran at will is to why
- 23:24Speaker 1: would what was nobody.
- 23:27Speaker 4: But nobody has it?
- 23:28Speaker 1: Why the Israeli demand was Iran cannot have a ballistic
- 23:31Speaker 1: missile which is capable of hitting Israel, not anything on
- 23:33Speaker 1: nuclear weapons is a ballistic missile cave of Why? Because
- 23:36Speaker 1: they need no balance? Whatso the package so they can
- 23:39Speaker 1: take over whatever they want. These Iranians are like, look,
- 23:42Speaker 1: we'll ship the nuclear weapons or nuclear material out of
- 23:44Speaker 1: the country. Nope, not good enough. Why Because they don't
- 23:47Speaker 1: have they can't have the ability to threaten Tel Aviv
- 23:50Speaker 1: or Jerusalem or any of these Haipha, any of the
- 23:53Speaker 1: other cities in Israel. That's what it's actually all about.
- 23:56Speaker 1: This entire thing. And so when he says this about Turkey,
- 23:59Speaker 1: which we all know they've been saying it out loud,
- 24:01Speaker 1: now for what for the entire war? Basically they're like
- 24:04Speaker 1: Turkey is next. From Neftally Bennett now to the Prime Minister.
- 24:08Speaker 1: This is purely about breaking up the US and NATO.
- 24:11Speaker 1: And I'm no defender of NATO, but if we're gonna
- 24:14Speaker 1: break up NATO should be on our terms, not on
- 24:16Speaker 1: Israeli terms. Okay, it should be a lot more about
- 24:18Speaker 1: why should we defend North Macedonia or whatever, you know
- 24:22Speaker 1: montanegro as opposed to Well, Israel wants to bomb.
- 24:26Speaker 4: Turkey and that's a huge problem.
- 24:28Speaker 1: And the irony, of course, is that by launching this war,
- 24:32Speaker 1: Trump has made himself much more reliant on Turkey and
- 24:36Speaker 1: much more reliant on the Gulf countries because he needs
- 24:39Speaker 1: them because we no longer have any weapons to actually
- 24:43Speaker 1: restore some sort of regional balance. But he's still the
- 24:46Speaker 1: superpower person on top of that, so he both has
- 24:48Speaker 1: to curt court Airdowan and court Babe. He has this
- 24:53Speaker 1: rogue actor over here and then this NATO ally over
- 24:57Speaker 1: here with a population which hates Israel with a fiery
- 25:00Speaker 1: passion and really hate them, you know, right back. And
- 25:03Speaker 1: I just think it demonstrates exactly the sheer instability of
- 25:07Speaker 1: our alliance here with Israel. And also, I mean, are
- 25:10Speaker 1: we going what can we even say about CNN just
- 25:12Speaker 1: in inviting this propaganda commercial on for why he shouldn't
- 25:15Speaker 1: be able to buy F thirty five. She didn't even
- 25:18Speaker 1: she didn't even challenge. But why do you deserve Israeli
- 25:19Speaker 1: air superiority in the region? Did you even think Taska? Nothing,
- 25:23Speaker 1: It's it's crazy.
- 25:24Speaker 5: Yeah, nothing, And so then watching and last point, so
- 25:29Speaker 5: we'll get to put up b six Nenya, who said
- 25:33Speaker 5: he jails his political opponents. Indeed, the mayor of Istanbul
- 25:37Speaker 5: is the largest opposition figure, is in jail with like
- 25:42Speaker 5: Trump trumped up charges. But meanwhile, of course Netnya, who
- 25:46Speaker 5: has thousands of his political opponents in administrative detention uh
- 25:51Speaker 5: in in torture chambers in Israel. But so it'll be
- 25:55Speaker 5: it's interesting to see how Trump navigated this. Well. Listen
- 25:58Speaker 5: closely to how Trump talks about the F thirty five's
- 26:02Speaker 5: and his relationship with Turkey versus a certain other ally
- 26:08Speaker 5: that he doesn't name, but it is quite clear who
- 26:09Speaker 5: he's referring to it be four.
- 26:16Speaker 7: Well, it's a decision we're going to make. We have
- 26:21Speaker 7: a very good relationship. I would think that many people,
- 26:25Speaker 7: I can tell you many people, including the people sitting
- 26:29Speaker 7: right here, thinks, you know, why wouldn't we do that.
- 26:31Speaker 7: We have a better relationship with Turkey, and Turkey has
- 26:34Speaker 7: been in many ways much more loyal than other countries
- 26:37Speaker 7: that we think would be loyal. So well, something certainly
- 26:41Speaker 7: we would consider. It's a great plane, it's the best
- 26:45Speaker 7: currently the best plane by far, and it's certainly something
- 26:50Speaker 7: we will consider.
- 26:51Speaker 5: Yeah, now, that's probably a double swipe at Europe, in
- 26:55Speaker 5: European countries who he's always dogging for not being loyal
- 26:58Speaker 5: enough and not defending him when he went to war
- 27:00Speaker 5: with Iran. But given the context of net Yahoo's twenty
- 27:05Speaker 5: four to seven in a public cable campaign against Trump
- 27:10Speaker 5: doling out the f thirty five to Turkey to have
- 27:13Speaker 5: him say no, these guys are loyal unlike some other
- 27:18Speaker 5: people who not gonna mention, it's pretty difficult not to
- 27:23Speaker 5: believe that he's also including nn Yahoo in that who
- 27:27Speaker 5: he feels, or he at least has been saying publicly
- 27:30Speaker 5: he feels like has been an obstacle to his agenda
- 27:34Speaker 5: in the Middle East, right.
- 27:35Speaker 1: But at the same time, like, how can we see
- 27:37Speaker 1: the collapse of the seasfire and not bet on net
- 27:39Speaker 1: on Yaho exactly way, you know, we didn't even this,
- 27:41Speaker 1: We didn't even put this in a show.
- 27:42Speaker 4: Shame on.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Guess what Israel also did today bomb Lebanon, Bomb Lebanon, right,
- 27:46Speaker 1: which the Iranians are like, hello, hello, well paragraph one
- 27:52Speaker 1: seaspire on all fronts. Yeah, it's totally nuts. And so
- 27:56Speaker 1: you look at this, you see these Raelis who.
- 27:58Speaker 4: Are bombing Lebanon.
- 27:59Speaker 1: You have this attack basically on the Trump administration, full
- 28:02Speaker 1: blown from bb net Yahoo on American cable news. And
- 28:06Speaker 1: what does the President say. Nothing. I mean, every once
- 28:08Speaker 1: in a while he'll give an interview and he's like, oh,
- 28:11Speaker 1: bb I'm the boss, and that's great, Okay, it's nice
- 28:15Speaker 1: to say. But Bbe's not stupid. He knows exactly how
- 28:18Speaker 1: to reach Trump through US cable news. He's fully activated
- 28:21Speaker 1: all of his allies. And the other thing is now
- 28:24Speaker 1: that Trump says that the ceasefire is over, the Neo
- 28:26Speaker 1: Khon tunguebath is about to come back full in force.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Oh mister President, the greatest and the strongest president. You
- 28:33Speaker 1: didn't make any mistake here with the ceasefire. Don't worry
- 28:36Speaker 1: about it. And at this, you know you basically have
- 28:39Speaker 1: like fifth columnists here in the United States who are
- 28:43Speaker 1: agents of the Israeli government. Like let's put B ten
- 28:46Speaker 1: up here, Mark Levin, look at this, I mean, this
- 28:49Speaker 1: is basically propaganda on behalf of the Israeli government's position.
- 28:52Speaker 4: Breaking news.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Airediwan was prepared to join forces with Iran against Israel.
- 28:57Speaker 1: The President has mentioned several times he talked Airedwan on
- 29:00Speaker 1: entering the war on the side of the Iranian regime,
- 29:02Speaker 1: meaning he talked Airdron out of going to war with
- 29:04Speaker 1: the US and Israel. I really think this needs to
- 29:06Speaker 1: be explained in detail and fully pursued. If a NATO
- 29:09Speaker 1: country was going to join the enemy in our war
- 29:11Speaker 1: against Iran, we need to know all about it. The
- 29:13Speaker 1: President is rightfully condemning the support of NATO countries, But
- 29:16Speaker 1: in the case of Turkey, it was prepared to fight us. Question, Mark,
- 29:19Speaker 1: can you imagine air Dowan using our military equipment against US? Now,
- 29:23Speaker 1: this thug will have our F thirty fives. By the way,
- 29:26Speaker 1: Israel as F thirty fives and we're praising the hell
- 29:28Speaker 1: out of this guy, like as our best friend. We
- 29:30Speaker 1: need to know a lot more about this.
- 29:32Speaker 4: I mean what they do is, you know, Bbie puts.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Out the talking point, then the entire neo con industrial
- 29:38Speaker 1: complex comes up behind him.
- 29:40Speaker 4: It's a pressure campaign.
- 29:42Speaker 1: And as you know, Bruno Massias, he's a commentator. I
- 29:45Speaker 1: deeply respect he called this years ago. I remember him
- 29:48Speaker 1: saying it. He said, the death of NATO will have
- 29:51Speaker 1: nothing to do with Ukraine, it will have nothing to
- 29:52Speaker 1: do with Russia. It will be an Israeli war of
- 29:55Speaker 1: aggression on you. And I mean he could not have
- 29:57Speaker 1: been more right. I really the most prescient predictions I
- 30:01Speaker 1: have ever seen.
- 30:02Speaker 5: And on the Lebanon strikes, people know there was a
- 30:05Speaker 5: drone strike on a vehicle down in telling Lebanon. It
- 30:07Speaker 5: hit a school principal, her mother, a foreign domestic worker,
- 30:13Speaker 5: you know, like an O pair or something, and then
- 30:15Speaker 5: a Syrian citizen. And that we're all driving this car
- 30:17Speaker 5: which had been trying to return to its check check
- 30:21Speaker 5: on their home down and down the southern Lebanon where
- 30:24Speaker 5: Israel has destroyed most most of the homes.
- 30:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:30Speaker 1: So, and then finally do you want to talk about
- 30:31Speaker 1: this Egypt thing. I wanted to give you that opportunity here.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Oh that was something that was so horrible. Yes, we
- 30:38Speaker 1: can put this next element up. Just benigh, guys.
- 30:41Speaker 5: One of the most sadistic and insane things I feel
- 30:44Speaker 5: like I've ever seen. So this So the Egyptian Relief
- 30:46Speaker 5: Committee was organizing. They put out a bunch of TVs
- 30:51Speaker 5: so that people could watch in Gaza the Egypt Argentina game,
- 30:57Speaker 5: which trying to give peace a little bit of life,
- 31:01Speaker 5: a little bit of joy. In as bleak a scenario
- 31:05Speaker 5: as you could possibly imagine. An hour before the match,
- 31:10Speaker 5: Israel kills the committee's PR guy. Yeah, like, just let
- 31:16Speaker 5: them watch the game. Also, Israel would have been happy
- 31:20Speaker 5: because Egypt was completely robbed in that game. I mean,
- 31:26Speaker 5: credit to Argentina an incredible, incredible comeback, but Egypt had
- 31:31Speaker 5: this and one of the greatest goals in World Cup
- 31:34Speaker 5: history called off by some stupid VAAR call, and then
- 31:37Speaker 5: Argentina does the exact same thing, goes coast to coast.
- 31:41Speaker 5: It's also trips an Egyptian player in the box, and
- 31:46Speaker 5: they don't get a call for that. So Israel could
- 31:48Speaker 5: have just been satisfied with the Palestinians who were rooting
- 31:52Speaker 5: for Egypt being disappointed in how that unfolded. Instead, they
- 31:55Speaker 5: have to kill the pr guy who's setting up the
- 31:58Speaker 5: big screen TVs.
- 32:00Speaker 1: So just.
- 32:02Speaker 5: Depraved, like there's no there's no word for it. I agree.
- 32:05Speaker 1: And that's why they deserve regional air superiority, right, that's.
- 32:08Speaker 5: The balance of power they're talking about. That's what they're
- 32:10Speaker 5: doing with.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Their America deserves and should backstop in the region. Smart smart, Okay,
- 32:16Speaker 1: let's get to Platner.
- 32:20Speaker 5: Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner has still not resigned the nomination,
- 32:25Speaker 5: but Maine Democratic Party Executive director Devin Murphy Anderson last
- 32:29Speaker 5: night posted a video urging that he do so and
- 32:33Speaker 5: telling him in his campaign that he will have no
- 32:36Speaker 5: say in who is chosen to replace him or how
- 32:40Speaker 5: that candidate will be picked. Let's roll a little bit
- 32:43Speaker 5: of Murphy Anderson here.
- 32:44Speaker 10: Hi, everyone, I wanted to provide you all an update
- 32:47Speaker 10: on the US Senate race here in Maine. As you know,
- 32:50Speaker 10: the main Democratic Party has been working around the clock
- 32:53Speaker 10: to develop a process to replace our US Senate nominee
- 32:56Speaker 10: that is open, inclusive, transparent, and fair. The integrity of
- 33:01Speaker 10: this process is just as important as the outcome, and
- 33:05Speaker 10: we are committed to ensuring that Democrats across our state
- 33:08Speaker 10: can have confidence in both. Unfortunately, Graham Platner's team has
- 33:13Speaker 10: repeatedly reached out to us in an attempt to put
- 33:16Speaker 10: their thumb on the scale of what this process looks like.
- 33:19Speaker 10: We have repeatedly reiterated too Grand Platner's team that they
- 33:22Speaker 10: have no role in determining our next Democratic nominee for
- 33:27Speaker 10: the US Senate, nor in determining what this process looks like.
- 33:30Speaker 10: We have also reiterated that grand Platner must drop out
- 33:33Speaker 10: of this race so that Democrats in Maine can focus
- 33:36Speaker 10: ondefeating Susan Collins this November. We look forward to making
- 33:40Speaker 10: this process public as soon as grand Platner formally withdraws
- 33:44Speaker 10: from this race.
- 33:45Speaker 5: And so the Platinner campaign responded to this, and we
- 33:47Speaker 5: can add this in post. Campaign official told sahoukpor quote,
- 33:52Speaker 5: the platter campaign has reached out to the party to
- 33:55Speaker 5: try and understand what this process would look like. At
- 33:58Speaker 5: no point as the campaign, trying to quote put its
- 34:01Speaker 5: finger on the scale. Over one hundred and fifty thousand
- 34:04Speaker 5: Maners voted for this movement, and over fifteen thousand manors
- 34:08Speaker 5: volunteered their time and energy to it. While Graham wouldn't
- 34:12Speaker 5: want to be a part of the process, he would
- 34:14Speaker 5: want to make sure the voters and volunteers make this decision,
- 34:19Speaker 5: not the political establishment. Unquote.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Can I say what it is?
- 34:24Speaker 1: This is a coup?
- 34:25Speaker 5: Well that from the executive director to say, we're not
- 34:29Speaker 5: even going to answer their phone calls. They did win
- 34:32Speaker 5: the nomination.
- 34:33Speaker 1: He won, he won more votes. Look, can we just
- 34:36Speaker 1: say I'm not some Platiner fan.
- 34:39Speaker 4: I literally second vouch.
- 34:40Speaker 5: God's not like It's.
- 34:42Speaker 4: Not that I hate Platner.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I've always thought he's like a Brooklyn cosplaying leftist as
- 34:45Speaker 1: some sort of working clat I think his background bears
- 34:48Speaker 1: all of that out. Okay, and so I'll save that
- 34:50Speaker 1: I telligce so for later. But to me, this is
- 34:51Speaker 1: a principle matter, like this man won more votes in
- 34:55Speaker 1: the Democratic primary than anyone in Maine history, and the
- 34:59Speaker 1: main Democratic who is that lady? By the way, I
- 35:01Speaker 1: don't remember anybody voting for her across the state.
- 35:05Speaker 4: Does she run for anything? Maybe?
- 35:07Speaker 1: Look, maybe I'm wrong, maybe she got voted it Like
- 35:09Speaker 1: I'm not familiar with exactly with the by laws of
- 35:11Speaker 1: the main Democratic Party. I know that one person got
- 35:15Speaker 1: more votes than anyone in the history of a main
- 35:17Speaker 1: Democratic party. And to say that he should have no
- 35:19Speaker 1: say whatsoever in how the next person if he were
- 35:22Speaker 1: to replace, to step down to replace him is totally insane.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Insane because his volunteers, his people, his campaign are ultimately
- 35:32Speaker 1: the ones who beat a sitting governor for the you know,
- 35:35Speaker 1: in the democratic nomination.
- 35:37Speaker 4: You don't forced her out of the race, they beat
- 35:39Speaker 4: the DSCC.
- 35:40Speaker 1: And then to say that he's going to step down,
- 35:42Speaker 1: which he doesn't have to do, that he should have
- 35:44Speaker 1: no say in the process is I mean, it is
- 35:47Speaker 1: as anti democratic as it possibly could be, because Ryan,
- 35:51Speaker 1: you and I both know they're going to try various
- 35:54Speaker 1: different ways to make this seam open super delegates or
- 35:58Speaker 1: televised debates like no, nothing beats voting and they can't
- 36:02Speaker 1: vote again, So it is by definition going to be
- 36:06Speaker 1: an anti democratic process.
- 36:08Speaker 5: They could do at least a caucus level situation. And
- 36:11Speaker 5: what Platter seems to be saying here is I'm not
- 36:15Speaker 5: trying to force you to take who I want you
- 36:18Speaker 5: to take. Now, if an establishment candidate was getting pushed
- 36:21Speaker 5: out of the race. By the way, they would appoint
- 36:23Speaker 5: an establishment replacement. There would be no controversy about it,
- 36:28Speaker 5: no question about it. It would be done in twelve hours.
- 36:31Speaker 5: But an establishment candidate is not getting pushed out of
- 36:33Speaker 5: the race Platner is. Platter is not even saying he
- 36:37Speaker 5: is insisting on Troy Jackson or Senna Bellows. What he
- 36:41Speaker 5: is saying is that he wants to make sure that
- 36:44Speaker 5: there is an inclusive process that as many Democrats who
- 36:49Speaker 5: participated in the primary process are able to participate in,
- 36:53Speaker 5: and that could be a convention in Portland that has
- 36:58Speaker 5: many conventions in every county where there's a Democratic like
- 37:02Speaker 5: this is this is easily something that can that can
- 37:05Speaker 5: be put together. Yeah, And so he's just asking, and
- 37:07Speaker 5: this is within the power of the main Democratic Party
- 37:10Speaker 5: to put together. It would be a kind of a
- 37:12Speaker 5: shotgun thing. Probably be hard to pull off an entire primary,
- 37:15Speaker 5: whether you count every single vote, but you could do
- 37:17Speaker 5: a caucus type situation. They could figure something out in
- 37:19Speaker 5: Platter's campaign and saying, what are you thinking because to
- 37:22Speaker 5: your point, they don't want this to go into Janet
- 37:26Speaker 5: Mills office, yeah, or or her or her office because
- 37:30Speaker 5: it's they just come out voter smoke signal the vote.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Jeck did her right. They explicitly did not vote for her,
- 37:37Speaker 1: like you cannot do this. In my opinion, this is
- 37:40Speaker 1: why I mean, look, I think so much of Plattner
- 37:43Speaker 1: and a lot of the Democratic Left. I don't know
- 37:46Speaker 1: what is going on, but like you know, their whole
- 37:48Speaker 1: brand is fighting. This is the time to fight, guys.
- 37:51Speaker 1: This is how you got steamrolled under Biden, and this
- 37:53Speaker 1: is basically why you have no power. This is why
- 37:55Speaker 1: Bernie dropped out of the race after Super Tuesday, never
- 37:57Speaker 1: fought and did anything allegedly, this is the time to
- 38:01Speaker 1: stand up. Everybody just immediately was like, oh yeah, Platner's
- 38:04Speaker 1: got to go, but nobody demanded any sort of conditions,
- 38:07Speaker 1: and the main Democratic Party said he's in no position
- 38:10Speaker 1: to demand anything.
- 38:11Speaker 4: I'm he literally is in a position to demand anything.
- 38:15Speaker 1: It's like, I really feel like I'm taking crazy pills, Ryan,
- 38:18Speaker 1: because a lot of it, like from Mamdani to Bernie,
- 38:22Speaker 1: to any of the Rocannas, all the movement leaders, everyone
- 38:25Speaker 1: started with he's got to go without the next part.
- 38:29Speaker 1: The next part should be and the person who who
- 38:33Speaker 1: succeeds him should be as similar to him as possible,
- 38:37Speaker 1: and they've given up all their leverage, and now these
- 38:40Speaker 1: people are right back in charge.
- 38:41Speaker 4: I really think if your anti establishment Democrat.
- 38:44Speaker 1: And Maine, you should be outraged by the way this
- 38:47Speaker 1: is playing out right.
- 38:48Speaker 5: There are three kind of ways you can handle serious,
- 38:52Speaker 5: huge allegations like that in the moment. One is to say,
- 38:55Speaker 5: we need to wait for a couple of days here
- 38:58Speaker 5: to get more information about this I want to hear
- 39:00Speaker 5: from all sides. Two is to say, Okay, you know
- 39:05Speaker 5: what our guys done. We're going to negotiate a surrender here.
- 39:09Speaker 5: Let's work on the terms of what this surrender look like.
- 39:12Speaker 5: Looks like three is just complete in total surrender, and
- 39:18Speaker 5: they went with basically number three. So let's put up
- 39:23Speaker 5: C two. So this is Bernie Sanders, he says. He tweeted,
- 39:27Speaker 5: I have spoken with Graham Plattner about the best path
- 39:29Speaker 5: forward for Maine in light of these very serious allegations.
- 39:33Speaker 5: I have recommended that he step aside. Mayor Zoron Mdani
- 39:37Speaker 5: in New York was asked as well about whether or
- 39:41Speaker 5: not Platner should stay in the race. He has a
- 39:43Speaker 5: lot of the same kind of consultants on his team
- 39:46Speaker 5: as are with Platner and staffers. Let's roll C one here.
- 39:51Speaker 11: Given that you have a sort of a sendent role
- 39:53Speaker 11: in the Democratic Party, could you talk about the main
- 39:56Speaker 11: Senate race. Do you think that Graham Plattner should drop
- 39:59Speaker 11: out of the race and do you have any intention
- 40:01Speaker 11: of endorsing any candidates in competitive races outside of New York,
- 40:05Speaker 11: LSIED or anyone else.
- 40:07Speaker 6: I believe that it's time for him to drop out
- 40:09Speaker 6: of the race. And when it comes to my own endorsements,
- 40:13Speaker 6: I've made eight endorsements at the state and federal level.
- 40:16Speaker 6: They've all been right here in New York City. I'm
- 40:19Speaker 6: incredibly excited at the fact that they won their races,
- 40:21Speaker 6: and that's where my focus is for now. I think
- 40:28Speaker 6: the focus of today should be to respond to the
- 40:31Speaker 6: gravity of what so many of us have read. And
- 40:34Speaker 6: I think that the only appropriate response is for the
- 40:36Speaker 6: campaign to come to an end.
- 40:38Speaker 5: And we can put up C five here. This is
- 40:40Speaker 5: from drops I knew is Nathan Bernard. He interviewed a
- 40:43Speaker 5: ton of volunteers for Grand Platner, and the overwhelming, almost
- 40:48Speaker 5: universal consensus from them was that Platiner either no longer
- 40:53Speaker 5: should have a shot at staying in the race or
- 40:56Speaker 5: no longer does have a shot in the race, and
- 40:58Speaker 5: that either way the upshot is the same. But they
- 41:02Speaker 5: want Troy Jackson, who are we were, who we were
- 41:05Speaker 5: talking about earlier and talked about yesterday on the program.
- 41:07Speaker 5: He's a logger who was the former state Senate president
- 41:10Speaker 5: who ran for governor. Finished a very close There was
- 41:13Speaker 5: a very close third with it was Hannah Pingree, Shennon
- 41:17Speaker 5: Bellows and UH and him and him as well in
- 41:20Speaker 5: the rough shot had ran coming competitively as well. UH. Meanwhile,
- 41:25Speaker 5: Jared Golden put up six year uh Platner ran as
- 41:32Speaker 5: an anti war candidate. Jared Golden cast a deciding vote
- 41:39Speaker 5: to kill a war Powers resolution in the US House.
- 41:43Speaker 5: As his thing was, he's a maverick in the conservative
- 41:48Speaker 5: district to to his credit, continued to get elected as
- 41:52Speaker 5: a as a Democrat in a Trump leaning district. To
- 41:55Speaker 5: his discredit, one of the ways he did it was
- 41:57Speaker 5: by constantly voting for war. So if to try to
- 42:01Speaker 5: replace a guy whose energy clearly came from his passionate
- 42:07Speaker 5: opposition two forever wars and two the genocide and Gaza
- 42:13Speaker 5: with somebody who's passionately on the other side of that
- 42:17Speaker 5: would be apparently maybe that's something that's okay with the
- 42:21Speaker 5: main Democratic Party, but it's hard to believe that that's well,
- 42:23Speaker 5: that not just guaranteeing defeat in November.
- 42:25Speaker 1: That's what I want to ask you, Am I overreacting?
- 42:27Speaker 1: Like does the current process point in the Troy Jackson
- 42:31Speaker 1: you know path, because could one? But see, this is
- 42:34Speaker 1: where this is kind of why I think that the
- 42:37Speaker 1: left is not you know, far be it from me
- 42:39Speaker 1: to like give advice or whatever. You don't have to listen,
- 42:41Speaker 1: but you know, the whole point was supposed to be
- 42:44Speaker 1: we fight.
- 42:45Speaker 4: That's why we go with Platiner.
- 42:46Speaker 1: That's why we're going to abandon our woke shibblitz after
- 42:49Speaker 1: the New York Times store story and be like, no,
- 42:52Speaker 1: we're sticking with our man. This is it right, We're
- 42:55Speaker 1: going We're all in because this is about fight. And
- 42:57Speaker 1: then you not only do you immediately give up, you
- 43:00Speaker 1: ask for nothing, and you basically give the establishment the
- 43:04Speaker 1: bat which which to bash your head in, which if
- 43:07Speaker 1: you're spending any time on Twitter right now, and you
- 43:10Speaker 1: really should go monitor the accounts of all of the
- 43:12Speaker 1: pro establishment people near a Tandent and mat Iglesias and
- 43:16Speaker 1: Josh Barrow. And I'm not saying this in a disparaging way.
- 43:19Speaker 1: They have a you know, they have a more of
- 43:20Speaker 1: an adversarial, more like centrist view of how the Democratic
- 43:23Speaker 1: Party should be. They are using this moment to not
- 43:25Speaker 1: only go after Platner, but everybody who backed so Morris
- 43:29Speaker 1: Katz and the And I'm sorry if this is too
- 43:31Speaker 1: inside baseball, but this stuff matters. They're currently using it
- 43:34Speaker 1: to try and blacklist that what is it fight agency
- 43:37Speaker 1: which found Platner. So they're like, see, these people have
- 43:41Speaker 1: horrible judgment, right, See, these people cannot be trusted. That's
- 43:44Speaker 1: why I said, not only is it a coup, it's
- 43:46Speaker 1: a purge, it's a simultaneous effort by a lot of
- 43:49Speaker 1: the establishment Democrats. And so when you immediately give up
- 43:53Speaker 1: all your leverage, now you have nothing because Graham has
- 43:56Speaker 1: both not fought back even though I mean again, the
- 44:00Speaker 1: biggest indication to me that he's guilty is or at
- 44:02Speaker 1: least guilty in something, right is he's like, Okay, I
- 44:05Speaker 1: haven't heard from him.
- 44:06Speaker 4: Hands up, Yeah, you haven't heard from anything.
- 44:08Speaker 1: He's canceled his events, he stopped all of his spending.
- 44:11Speaker 1: He basically, you know, conceded from day one that he
- 44:15Speaker 1: was like, we're gonna assess the future of our campaign.
- 44:18Speaker 1: He's hanging out at his home, you know, doing nothing
- 44:20Speaker 1: from what we can see right now. And then it's
- 44:23Speaker 1: not just him, it's all the movement leaders that I listed,
- 44:26Speaker 1: and you're basically allowing the establishment to burn you, which
- 44:31Speaker 1: you know, if it's twenty twenty after BLM, that's one thing,
- 44:34Speaker 1: but it's today where you guys are actually winning primaries,
- 44:38Speaker 1: you do have some leverage, and I see nothing. I
- 44:42Speaker 1: think this is a shameful incident, honestly.
- 44:44Speaker 5: And they're even I've noticed trying to use it against
- 44:47Speaker 5: Abdul L's side in Michigan.
- 44:48Speaker 1: Wife noticed that too.
- 44:49Speaker 5: It's like, wait, hold on a second, what on earth? Yeah,
- 44:52Speaker 5: he has not well side and also good luck Choynnie,
- 44:55Speaker 5: like a Platner's name idea in Michigan is probably not
- 44:57Speaker 5: very high. Like this is inside stuff that like freaks
- 45:02Speaker 5: like us or following pretty closely. But Abdula sayat like,
- 45:06Speaker 5: what are you doing? You're going after him just because
- 45:07Speaker 5: he shares some politics with Platiner. No, it's it's completely I.
- 45:12Speaker 1: Got my own beef with Obdul who by the way
- 45:14Speaker 1: is hopefully coming on the show next week. We're talking
- 45:16Speaker 1: a lot about property taxes.
- 45:18Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I'm I'm beefing with him over us too,
- 45:21Speaker 5: oh God like public Like I haven't argued with him.
- 45:23Speaker 1: But I would. Yeah, but we'll get into it. We'll
- 45:26Speaker 1: we'll save all that later spoilers. Soo's been married for
- 45:29Speaker 1: twenty years. It looks like he's two children, so, you know,
- 45:31Speaker 1: good for him. I don't think that has anything to
- 45:33Speaker 1: do with his behavior. Also, you know, plug for you know,
- 45:36Speaker 1: non traditional Sharia. If you don't drink, none of this
- 45:39Speaker 1: will happen to you. That's just my my personal plug.
- 45:42Speaker 5: But you gotta look totally. But it reduces the like
- 45:45Speaker 5: soft sharia.
- 45:46Speaker 1: If you if you live a soft Sharia lifestyle and
- 45:49Speaker 1: you don't drink, you don't gamble, and you don't run
- 45:51Speaker 1: around and chase promiscuous lifestyle, you will not have people
- 45:55Speaker 1: who have accusations against you. Who who would have thought so?
- 45:58Speaker 1: So Ron, Mom, Donnie and I'll Dulcie. You know, you
- 46:01Speaker 1: got two Muslim guys and they live clean. This is
- 46:03Speaker 1: what clean living can get you. But my general point
- 46:06Speaker 1: here about the way that this is all playing out
- 46:09Speaker 1: is it seems abundantly clear that the Democratic establishment is
- 46:14Speaker 1: on a high.
- 46:15Speaker 4: I have not seen them on in quite some time.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Like they really, like the left was having an ascendant moment.
- 46:21Speaker 4: They had Zoron.
- 46:22Speaker 1: Between Zoron and then those three New York City primaries
- 46:26Speaker 1: and Colorado.
- 46:27Speaker 4: This was a big deal.
- 46:28Speaker 1: This was a big big I would say, two months
- 46:31Speaker 1: and now this was actually, in my opinion, the real
- 46:34Speaker 1: testing ground because when in a blue seat in a
- 46:37Speaker 1: blue state, Okay, congratulations, knocking off a Republican swing senator
- 46:44Speaker 1: in a swing ish state like Maine, which has consistently
- 46:47Speaker 1: voted for Susan Collins, to have a full blown, like
- 46:51Speaker 1: non compromising in terms of the DSA ideology to be
- 46:54Speaker 1: able to win that state would have been a absolute
- 46:58Speaker 1: earthquake in politics. Again, it's one thing to beat a Democrat.
- 47:01Speaker 1: It's a whole other thing to actually beat a Republican
- 47:04Speaker 1: whenever you're running on that strategy. And that's why to
- 47:07Speaker 1: give up all of that leverage and to basically hand
- 47:10Speaker 1: it all back in the silver platter to the main
- 47:12Speaker 1: Democratic Party. Who is setting these standards, I mean, you
- 47:15Speaker 1: tell me, Ryan, I don't see a single prominent movement
- 47:18Speaker 1: leader going after this main democratic woman, right, I haven't
- 47:23Speaker 1: seen one be like, actually no, he's going to have
- 47:25Speaker 1: a say because he seems so toxic.
- 47:26Speaker 4: So I do think it.
- 47:28Speaker 1: I think it's a very dangerous moment, like for democracy
- 47:30Speaker 1: and especially if you how could you how could the
- 47:32Speaker 1: number one lesson from Biden not be democracy is good?
- 47:37Speaker 5: Now?
- 47:37Speaker 1: Actually democracy is good. It is because that the failure
- 47:40Speaker 1: of that is what led to your devastating loss in
- 47:43Speaker 1: November of twenty twenty four.
- 47:45Speaker 5: You know, let's talk a little bit about the way
- 47:46Speaker 5: the press handled this. Yeah, Politico and CNN omitted a
- 47:53Speaker 5: key detail from its reporting around the gram Platner sexual
- 47:57Speaker 5: assault allegations. We have learned. Let's take a listen to
- 48:01Speaker 5: how Jenny Rascott, the accuser of Graham Plattner, described how
- 48:06Speaker 5: the evening began in her interview with Jake Tapper on CNN.
- 48:11Speaker 12: It was a nay where him and I were texting
- 48:13Speaker 12: back and forth and he had taken something that I
- 48:16Speaker 12: said as an invitation and that's not how he meant it.
- 48:20Speaker 12: And I quickly clarified, and he sent a message back
- 48:24Speaker 12: indicating that he would come over, and I said, no,
- 48:28Speaker 12: don't come over like I'm not in the mood, don't
- 48:30Speaker 12: come over. And I was more sterned with that message.
- 48:33Speaker 12: And then I didn't hear back from him, So I
- 48:36Speaker 12: thought that that meant he got the message or gave
- 48:39Speaker 12: up on it or whatnot.
- 48:41Speaker 5: Okay, Sager, So there was no follow up from Jake
- 48:44Speaker 5: Tapper if you listened closely there that she said we
- 48:48Speaker 5: were texting back and forth and he took something that
- 48:52Speaker 5: I said as an invitation to come over. This is
- 48:55Speaker 5: they'd been dating off and on for about two years
- 48:58Speaker 5: at this point. The follow up from a normal person
- 49:04Speaker 5: at that point.
- 49:05Speaker 4: Is what did you say?
- 49:06Speaker 5: What would you say? Right like? What was the thing
- 49:08Speaker 5: that you said to him that he misunderstood? Now, let's
- 49:13Speaker 5: take a look at how Politico reported this is This
- 49:18Speaker 5: is D eight. This is how Politico first reported so.
- 49:22Speaker 5: Rasakot told Politico she connected with Platner on the dating
- 49:25Speaker 5: at Bumble in twenty nineteen and consentual relations with him
- 49:27Speaker 5: prior to the night he allegedly assaulted her that night.
- 49:30Speaker 5: In late twenty twenty one, she said she had exchanged
- 49:33Speaker 5: text messages with him and told him not to come over,
- 49:37Speaker 5: saying she wasn't in the mood for company. Later that evening,
- 49:40Speaker 5: She said she realized when she heard a sound on
- 49:42Speaker 5: the stairs that he had let himself into her house,
- 49:45Speaker 5: which was unlocked. Platner came up the stairs, Rascott said,
- 49:50Speaker 5: to where she was on a couch. He got on
- 49:52Speaker 5: top of her and kept grabbing her, she said, while
- 49:55Speaker 5: she repeatedly told him to stop and that she wasn't interested. So, Sagar,
- 50:01Speaker 5: you read that, and most people in Washington who read that,
- 50:04Speaker 5: they're like that sounds like he broke in to the
- 50:08Speaker 5: house uninvited and then began a violent assault of her.
- 50:13Speaker 5: Nowhere does Politico mention what she mentioned to CNN there
- 50:18Speaker 5: that she had said something in the text message exchanges
- 50:23Speaker 5: that he mistook as an invitation. They just say, and
- 50:28Speaker 5: elsewhere in the article they say he was quote uninvited.
- 50:32Speaker 5: It turns out, and we have learned that Politico definitively
- 50:36Speaker 5: at the time of publication, knew precisely what Jenny had
- 50:42Speaker 5: texted to Graham that he, according to her, mistook as
- 50:46Speaker 5: an invitation to come over. And we know this because
- 50:51Speaker 5: the Washington Post also interviewed Jenny Rassakot, and Jenny told
- 50:56Speaker 5: the Washington Post, because she's being honest, laying out all
- 51:01Speaker 5: of the details, which is how it should be. You
- 51:04Speaker 5: lay out all the details and then you let the readers,
- 51:06Speaker 5: the public, the voters say, Okay, we have all the
- 51:10Speaker 5: different facts. Here's how we interpret this scenario. So good
- 51:13Speaker 5: for her for being trans I.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Totally agree with you, and I want to say that
- 51:17Speaker 1: up at the top. This is in no way an
- 51:18Speaker 1: attack on her. This is about how I believe that
- 51:21Speaker 1: the media's handless.
- 51:22Speaker 9: She was.
- 51:24Speaker 4: From the beginning about this.
- 51:25Speaker 5: She doesn't she doesn't have the text messages anymore. Platner
- 51:29Speaker 5: apparently doesn't have the text messages anymore. So we're going
- 51:31Speaker 5: by her memory of what they are. And to her credit,
- 51:35Speaker 5: she divulged the details of the text messages from that
- 51:40Speaker 5: evening and to the so she divulged it to the
- 51:44Speaker 5: Washington Post. The Washington Post reaches out to the Platiner
- 51:47Speaker 5: campaign for comment. Good for the Washington Post, and in
- 51:52Speaker 5: their their requests for comment, they mentioned that Jenny had
- 51:57Speaker 5: been texting him talking about a massage earlier. And so
- 52:03Speaker 5: the Planner campaign sees this and they go back to
- 52:05Speaker 5: Politico and they say, apparently there's some more context here
- 52:09Speaker 5: about the back and forth, like do you know about
- 52:13Speaker 5: these text messages the reporter. The reporter then exchanges messages
- 52:19Speaker 5: with the Platner campaign. Those messages have been now circulating
- 52:23Speaker 5: in main politics, in main political circles. I obtained a
- 52:29Speaker 5: copy of those. I was able to authenticate them with
- 52:33Speaker 5: sources with knowledge of them. And here is what the
- 52:37Speaker 5: Politico reporter said to the campaign. Jenny Rascott had been
- 52:43Speaker 5: quote texting Platner about needing her glute massage. That detail
- 52:48Speaker 5: didn't make our story glute massage. So within about a
- 52:55Speaker 5: half an hour of getting this glute massage text, Platner
- 52:58Speaker 5: is in the house now, she says.
- 53:00Speaker 1: She says.
- 53:01Speaker 4: She followed up, no, no, no.
- 53:02Speaker 5: Don't come, don't and don't come because because he texts
- 53:04Speaker 5: it back long, so he's he's wasted. Clearly, he gets
- 53:08Speaker 5: this message I need you know, I need my glute massage.
- 53:11Speaker 5: He comes over, he's and he's text back, I'm coming over,
- 53:14Speaker 5: and she said, She's like, wait, wait, don't come over that.
- 53:17Speaker 5: She says, don't come over, come over. This is main.
- 53:21Speaker 5: He's not taking the subway like so's. She's drunk drunken driving,
- 53:25Speaker 5: drunkenly driving over there comes into the house and then
- 53:28Speaker 5: it gives but and then he's she says, he's grabbing
- 53:31Speaker 5: her on the couch.
- 53:32Speaker 4: Where is she saying?
- 53:33Speaker 5: No, right, where's he grabbing her?
- 53:35Speaker 9: Like?
- 53:35Speaker 5: Is he like immediately starting like the glute massage or whatever? Anyway,
- 53:40Speaker 5: with Washington Post, to its credit, included a version of
- 53:45Speaker 5: the detail we could put up. Washington posted the seven
- 53:49Speaker 5: one night in November or December twenty twenty one. She
- 53:51Speaker 5: said she texted him to say that she could use
- 53:54Speaker 5: a massage. She said she did not intend it as
- 53:56Speaker 5: an invitation, but he interpreted it that way, immediate replying
- 54:01Speaker 5: to say he would come right over. She said she
- 54:03Speaker 5: wrote back twice telling him not to. The Post was
- 54:06Speaker 5: not able to review the alleged messages are independently verify them.
- 54:09Speaker 5: Rassaco It said she later deleted them soon after the incident,
- 54:13Speaker 5: so they didn't posts didn't include the glue part, but
- 54:15Speaker 5: did mention the massage their credit. But because the Politico
- 54:21Speaker 5: published first, nobody I didn't even know the Washington Post
- 54:25Speaker 5: reported xactly.
- 54:26Speaker 4: And I think that's why this is important.
- 54:28Speaker 1: So there's the most important part, and let's just zoom out,
- 54:31Speaker 1: because this does potentially explain why a drunken platner enters
- 54:37Speaker 1: the home. Right it stops there, because that's where the
- 54:41Speaker 1: rest of the evening and her account of the evening
- 54:44Speaker 1: it no longer accounts for. But it does explain a detail.
- 54:47Speaker 1: And I think what was key to the understanding generally
- 54:51Speaker 1: that all of us had was that it did genuinely
- 54:54Speaker 1: appear as if Platner had been told explicitly not to
- 54:57Speaker 1: come over there. Understood that to be the case. Broke
- 55:00Speaker 1: into the home, effectively entering a home unannounced, and which
- 55:04Speaker 1: whether it's unlocked or not, is a full blown crime,
- 55:08Speaker 1: I mean, and I do think that that's part of
- 55:09Speaker 1: why we need to assess this very seriously. The very
- 55:13Speaker 1: definition of what Jenny has alleged here is a full
- 55:17Speaker 1: blown gross sexual assault class A felony in the state
- 55:20Speaker 1: of Maine with statute of limitations for twenty years. That's
- 55:23Speaker 1: what she is alleging, which carries a significant prison sentence
- 55:27Speaker 1: for decades, potentially in prison. And that is my understanding
- 55:31Speaker 1: of how I need to evaluate what is being alleged here.
- 55:35Speaker 1: I want to make that clear now. If I were
- 55:37Speaker 1: then to submit to due process or any something like
- 55:41Speaker 1: that in a trial and I saw something like that,
- 55:43Speaker 1: it would significantly change Again, my understanding of how the
- 55:47Speaker 1: event were to begin. This does not in any way
- 55:50Speaker 1: say that she is lying about what then transcribed. Also,
- 55:54Speaker 1: we should not take away agency from Plattner, who is
- 55:57Speaker 1: wasted out of his mind five years ago, mind, you know,
- 56:00Speaker 1: not twenty years ago. Five years ago, absolutely blacked out
- 56:04Speaker 1: drunk and then clearly in a position where he has
- 56:08Speaker 1: been in several of these types of encounters which have
- 56:11Speaker 1: been described from Lindsay Fifield to others women or ex
- 56:15Speaker 1: girlfriends who have talked to the media. He put himself
- 56:19Speaker 1: and had terrible judgment, terrible behavior and put himself in
- 56:23Speaker 1: a situation where something like this could happen, which was
- 56:26Speaker 1: obviously very traumatizing to Jenny herself in terms of her
- 56:29Speaker 1: understanding the Facebook messages about consensually careless. That's why I
- 56:34Speaker 1: think this is a media story, because I think that
- 56:37Speaker 1: the irresponsibility of not reporting that led to an understanding
- 56:42Speaker 1: of how the event transpired, which is not fulsome with
- 56:46Speaker 1: the general reality. And maybe it seems like you and
- 56:48Speaker 1: I are splitting hairents. But the reason why I think
- 56:51Speaker 1: it's really important and when you learn this it really
- 56:53Speaker 1: struck me, is it really reminded me of how a
- 56:55Speaker 1: lot of the me too cases in twenty seventeen and
- 56:58Speaker 1: twenty eighteen transports in which it was very obvious it
- 57:02Speaker 1: was purely on the you know, word of one person.
- 57:05Speaker 1: You could have contravening evidence of what obviously was a
- 57:09Speaker 1: complicated encounter or something where look, there's genuine you know,
- 57:14Speaker 1: misunderstanding or you know, a different takeaway in which people's
- 57:18Speaker 1: lives got totally ruined. And I do think that in
- 57:20Speaker 1: this case, like with Platner, look it looks like he's
- 57:23Speaker 1: on the track to resign, and when he does, from
- 57:26Speaker 1: what we know about his finances, if his rich parents
- 57:28Speaker 1: don't bail him out, he has no money, and he
- 57:31Speaker 1: will be branded let's call it what it is, a
- 57:33Speaker 1: rapist for all time. And that is kind of what
- 57:36Speaker 1: we're talking about, beyond the political implications, but the character
- 57:39Speaker 1: of the person. I don't think he has particularly a
- 57:41Speaker 1: good character personally in terms of the way that he's
- 57:43Speaker 1: acted here. But you know, politics is not a character context.
- 57:46Speaker 5: Were this really that If it was, it wouldn't be
- 57:50Speaker 5: good't we wouldn't have Trump as president.
- 57:53Speaker 1: Yet I say all of this only to say that
- 57:56Speaker 1: the way that CNN did not follow up that question
- 58:00Speaker 1: and Politico did not include that detail. That is willful
- 58:03Speaker 1: in trying to craft a narrative. That's not what we're
- 58:07Speaker 1: supposed to do. That's why, and that's part of why
- 58:09Speaker 1: I appreciate the show. We talked back and forth, we
- 58:11Speaker 1: had different context, detail understanding, and for them, you know,
- 58:15Speaker 1: by printing it the way they did. I mean, as
- 58:18Speaker 1: a journalist, I think the ultimate job is to always
- 58:21Speaker 1: include as much understanding an event as possible, especially one
- 58:25Speaker 1: it's just something like this. Jenny is reledging a full
- 58:28Speaker 1: blown felony punishable by a decade or plus or whatever
- 58:33Speaker 1: in prison. That merits a serious understanding of how we're
- 58:37Speaker 1: gonna put in all the detail as much as possible
- 58:40Speaker 1: as if then were go to trials. Since they knew
- 58:42Speaker 1: the direct implications of their story at the time that
- 58:45Speaker 1: they wrote it, they knew exactly what it would how
- 58:48Speaker 1: it would unfold.
- 58:49Speaker 5: And what's so interesting that, like we were saying earlier,
- 58:51Speaker 5: credit to Jenny for volunteering this information, I totally agree.
- 58:55Speaker 5: Perhaps she thought that maybe Plattner still had the text messages,
- 58:59Speaker 5: but either way, she yes, she did not hide any
- 59:02Speaker 5: She did not hide this at all. It is the
- 59:03Speaker 5: media that decided that this was not a relevant detail
- 59:07Speaker 5: to share. And like you said, none of what we're
- 59:09Speaker 5: saying here is intended to say, oh, well everything afterwards
- 59:13Speaker 5: he's justified, No, of course not. The question is is
- 59:17Speaker 5: it a relevant detail that should have been shared with
- 59:21Speaker 5: readers so that as they are analyzing how they feel
- 59:24Speaker 5: about the situation, they can take it all into context.
- 59:28Speaker 5: Does it give you any clues into how Graham Plattner
- 59:33Speaker 5: was interpreting, whether or not there was consent, whether or
- 59:37Speaker 5: not he was invited over and I don't Politico affirmatively
- 59:42Speaker 5: wrote in its article that he was uninvited. You could
- 59:47Speaker 5: say he was disinvited by the subsequent text messages uninvited
- 59:51Speaker 5: is false, Like it is just flat out false.
- 59:54Speaker 1: There's an invitation, and that is the key, and that
- 59:57Speaker 1: adds even more to this interview, which never thought I
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: would say, this a decent job of questioning here of
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: Mika Persinski and Adam Ren who's one of the.
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: Before we got that, so I asked Jake Tapper if
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: he's aware, if he knew, I asked, why didn't you
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: do a follow up? But more importantly, did you ask
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: her off camera? Did you know that she had said
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: I need my glute massage. In the text message that
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: that was the thing that he quote unquote mistook as
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: an invitation. He did not respond. I asked Politico for comment.
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: They are saying that they're working on a response. When
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: that response comes in, we'll put it in the newsletter
- 1:00:37Speaker 5: and we'll put it in the notes underneath here. If
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: that comes in before we finish taping the program, well
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: we'll put it up.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Let's get to Mika Persinski here talking about or sorry
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: pressing Adam Wren, one of the reporters who was on
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: this story. Let's take a listen.
- 1:00:56Speaker 13: What aspects of this story brought it to the love
- 1:01:00Speaker 13: of publishable.
- 1:01:03Speaker 14: Yeah, you're you're correct here, Mika. There there is no
- 1:01:06Speaker 14: police report in this case. We spent a lot of
- 1:01:09Speaker 14: time talking to the Jenny, you know, asking her for
- 1:01:13Speaker 14: coroborating evidence. She shared that she had confided into a
- 1:01:18Speaker 14: number of people, including her therapist, uh and almost real time,
- 1:01:24Speaker 14: and we reviewed email exchanges between she and her therapist
- 1:01:30Speaker 14: referring to what she called this the sexual assault, and
- 1:01:34Speaker 14: her therapist sort of acknowledging that this is this had
- 1:01:37Speaker 14: happened to her. We talked to people who she confided
- 1:01:41Speaker 14: in in the months after this happened. We asked her
- 1:01:44Speaker 14: why she didn't file a police report, and she described
- 1:01:48Speaker 14: sort of the the insular nature of where she lives
- 1:01:53Speaker 14: in her corner of Maine that she shares with Graham Platner,
- 1:01:57Speaker 14: and she you know, debated sort of how to to
- 1:02:00Speaker 14: handle this.
- 1:02:01Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:02:01Speaker 14: And and we found ultimately the number of coroborating pieces
- 1:02:05Speaker 14: of evidence, uh, to to support her story h in
- 1:02:10Speaker 14: a way that we could report it.
- 1:02:13Speaker 13: So, what are some of those corroborating pieces of evidence?
- 1:02:17Speaker 13: So you've got uh, conversations with her therapist and people
- 1:02:22Speaker 13: who she confide it in, any any conversations with Graham
- 1:02:28Speaker 13: Platner at the time of it, where she said because
- 1:02:31Speaker 13: apparently as part of this story, she says she even
- 1:02:34Speaker 13: confirmed to him that this was not consent.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: Do you have that?
- 1:02:38Speaker 13: What what do you have that actually connects this literally
- 1:02:43Speaker 13: Graham Platner to raping this victim.
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:02:49Speaker 14: She reached out to him the day after via Instagram
- 1:02:54Speaker 14: and essentially you know, told him that, you know, she
- 1:02:58Speaker 14: didn't want to hear from again, and she told him
- 1:03:01Speaker 14: that morning as well.
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:03:03Speaker 14: And uh, you know, we we uh looked at messages
- 1:03:07Speaker 14: that she had sent to others in the months after
- 1:03:09Speaker 14: this happened through.
- 1:03:11Speaker 13: Social media to see those dms.
- 1:03:15Speaker 14: Uh, she tried to recover those dms.
- 1:03:17Speaker 7: We did not.
- 1:03:18Speaker 14: We were not able to review those dms, but she
- 1:03:22Speaker 14: described them to us. We also, long before he was
- 1:03:25Speaker 14: a public, before he was a political candidate, we saw
- 1:03:30Speaker 14: her essentially explain to others that he was quote in
- 1:03:35Speaker 14: her words, consensually careless.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: So I do think that that interview is important because
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: you know, and you know, cutting off if I'm sharing
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: too much. But when you shared before the story came out,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: one of the key details where I was like, wow,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: this is devastating is you told me the therapist verified
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: her comments and that didn't happen. That wasn't in the story.
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: That's pretty That was the room. That was the room.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: That was the rumor that was going around was that
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: the therapist could verify that at a time before he
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: ran for office, that he she could verify her allegation.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: And that's not what happened. And they reviewed emails, you know,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: between her telling the therapist that had happened in June.
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: On in June June of this year, after she started
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: working with.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: She they did talk to a friend ex boyfriend who
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: backed up her story, so that you know that's there,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: and the Facebook message is there too, But I don't know.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: I mean, the therapist detail was.
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: Kind of important and I can read from the political article.
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: So this is about the This is the Politico describing
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: the therapist. Rasik Coo showed Politico recent emails with her therapist.
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: They say recent. My understanding is this is June, like
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: weeks ago, in which Razakott explained she was talking to
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: the media about her relationship with Platiner and the essay
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: slash R, using an abbreviation for in the message, Rasicote
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: was not ready to go public and was seeking help
- 1:04:55Speaker 5: corroborating her account in conversations she was having with reporters
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: on condition of man Her therapist responded that Razakot shouldn't
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: have to speak publicly about a traumatic incident in order
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: to be believed, without referencing details of any particular incident.
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: The therapist, who Politico agreed not to name it her request,
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: declined to comment when reached on Monday. So if you
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: hear Adam Ran from Politico discussing it, the therapist confirmed
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: that they discussed that that's not what they wrote, but
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: they should have written that in their article.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: So he is saying something which did not appear in
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: their story, which is why I think again this is
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: where the rumor mail actually got past what was written,
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: because when I read that, and I'm assuming the editors
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: you know something like this, you go through the fine
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: tooth comp because your ass is getting suit if you
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: get a single detail right.
- 1:05:42Speaker 5: Wrote so she wrote basically, do you remember me sharing
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: these details with you? And the therapist wrote back with
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: a general comment on how women should be believed and
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: she should be believed and she should beau for her.
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: That's the same thing.
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: That's not an firm, the same thing, and they didn't
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: They don't report it in their article as confirming, but
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: then they say in interviews that they did that, which
- 1:06:07Speaker 5: is again like we're in an era where people are
- 1:06:11Speaker 5: losing trust in media and what are we doing.
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: That's why I finally want to do D five. Let's
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: do D five here and put it up here on
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: the screen. This is from Lindsay Fifield, who he'll recall
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: she was the conservative activist who originally was one of
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: the people named in the New York Times story. And
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: I actually think it's very worth reading what she says here.
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: She says, I actually understand why Democratic leaders didn't take
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: our story seriously when the Times are poored them in June,
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: but are taking them seriously now. It was by design.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: The line most shared from my piece was the claim
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: that Times could quote not corroborate my story despite talking
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: to two of my friends. I gave them contact information
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: for five friends. They called the two who I clarified
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: not to know about the abuse, but they would be
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: able to affirm our relationship, timeline events, et cetera. They
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: simply did not call the other three. I also gave
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: the names of all my former roommates who remember him
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: stalking our row house, which was five row houses down
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: from his, and waiting for me to return. I gave
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: them screenshots of messages between these roommates and I discussing it.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: I gave them the names of other men I dated
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: who might have remember him following us around the hills,
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: showing up on my stoop where we walked home from
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: days to confront us. I gave them emails to my
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: landlord urgently ending my lease and moving to an apartment
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: across town, and diary entries talking about it all time,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: marks I told them during pre marital counseling, I'd spoken
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: to my ex fiance about the abuse, because I had
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: to explain to him why I reacted with terror anytime
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: he lost his temper. They said, oh, no, we don't
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: need to bother him or my priests. Besides, I'd written
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: about in my diary. As the weeks dragged on, I
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: stopped trying to give them evidence because the amount I'd
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: already give them seemed to overwhelm them, and I thought
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: it meant that they had clearly more enough to verify
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: my every claim. My friends might not have known the details,
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: but they affirmed that, yes, I had told them he
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: was abusive. Besides, they assured my part in the reporting
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: would be small. I thought my details would only serve
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: to affirm Jenny and the other anonymous woman. Jenny and I,
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: having never met or spoken, both shared with these reporters
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: terrifyingly similar details of intimate partner violence, coercive control, and
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: cycles of abuse. The third unnamed woman did as well,
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: but tell me again how they could not corroborate. So
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: there are two things that actually happen here is it's
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: very clear they told her she would be a small
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: part of the story. She ends up being in.
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: Mind in the flagship part of the story.
- 1:08:17Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: Similarly, she actually did provide them a decent amount of evidence.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: It's and this is speculation on my part. If by
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: telling her that she's going to be a small part
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: of the story, they probably did the same thing to Jenny.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: And Jenny is her entire reason for coming forward with
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: this allegation now is that she says she was furious
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: at the way the reaction happened to the New York
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: Times story, which elevated Lindsay Fifield's allegation and the dismissal
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: generally of her because of her previous role as a
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: conservative activist. And so the spiral here is that if
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: the Times had just done its job, if they had
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: reported what she says here. By the way, Jennie also
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: so says, I told the Times all of this off
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: the record, and if she they had gotten her to
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: expound on that and get her on the record and
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: properly get her on the record and put all of
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: this in a fulsome story, this could have all been
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: done before the primary, and then none of this would
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: be happening in some weird you know, extra democratic way
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: where he's got to drop out and then they're gonna
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: have to put them. This could happen before the primary,
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: right the voters would have had the information, new candidates
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: to Troy or whatever could have declared.
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: People would have.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Actually had a chance to vote. And so I think
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: that the two primary villains here New York Times for
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: the way they handle this, and then CNN and Politico,
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: all three of those because they did not present Graham
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: for being a dog.
- 1:09:43Speaker 4: Well oh yeah, right, so you know.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: Sorry when I say primary villain, I'm talking about the
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: process that right, Yes, I know, yeah, Graham. I mean again,
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: I said it before in our previous block. Take it
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: as a lesson, guys, clean living. Clean living will get
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: you a clean life. And if you want to run
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: for office, you know you shouldn't be acting like this.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: And that's final thing.
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: I said it yesterday.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: That's why I think he's loadsome because he told people
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: nothing else is coming, and you were rolling around like
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: this four or five years ago, maybe even ten fifteen
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: years ago, like Lindsay Fifields. So there could be more
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: that we could be, more that we didn't talk about,
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: and people stuck their next out for you. How many
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: millions of dollars did he raise? Millions? People donated to
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: their hard earned money to you, and you fucked them over, man,
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: You really did.
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: And he's got to live with that, you know not,
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: which is what he did these women.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: He betrayed all these supporters trusts.
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: And I don't know if he even remembers this text
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: message exchange. And I reached out to him for comment
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: having heart back. So I don't even know. And as
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: far as people I've talked like him, he may not
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: even know about the existence of these text messages, the
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: glup thing, because he was seems like he was blacked out.
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: According to Jenny, the next morning, he rolled over and
- 1:10:56Speaker 5: put his arm around her and she's like, what are
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: you doing? Like do you not remember what happened last night?
- 1:11:00Speaker 5: And years right now? She's like and she's like get out.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and yeah, I mean his his handling of all
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: of it is awful. He never responded. Allegedly, according to her,
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: he never responded to her message, being like, dude, you raise.
- 1:11:13Speaker 5: That was and that was a thing. Come on, that
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: was the thing that he's knocked for over and over.
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: So's ghosting, like, oh.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: These women he was drunk, you know, totally out of control,
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: manic depressive, which even five years ago that was and
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: he was gradually true. And that's my final thing where
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: people are like, how could you have known? And you
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: couldn't have known this. I'm not blaming you or anybody,
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: but you know, the tattoo, the adrenaline, junkie behavior, the
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: blackwater and all that, it's a type. It's an archetype
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: which anybody who's ever interacted with people in the military
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: they know, they know. Well, some people liked him for that,
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: and I understand that, but it does come with a
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: significant downside.
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: For anybody who you know is like this.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: And then so you know, look, if you want to
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: be a public servant, part of that is you need
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: you not only have to withstand scrutiny, but you need
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: good character.
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: You need good judgment.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: And I don't think I would have said that five
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: years ago. I don't think the character and judgment, or sorry,
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: character especially was all that was all that important to judgment.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: But I've actually changed my opinion quite a bit on that.
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: As mom Donnie showed up. If you're going to take
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: on the man, oh man, you.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: Gotta be squeaky clean and completely no skeletons or any
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: of that in the closet, because you're right, if you're
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: the man, you can have plenty of skeletons in there,
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: they don't care. But if you're not, you know, and
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: that's not an endorsement of the way that the situation is.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: It is kind of unfair considering how many disgusting cretans
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: are Aaron Washington probably who have done the exact same thing.
- 1:12:40Speaker 5: But in class cannot count it such behavior.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Great point, Ye
