Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken.
• 0:05
Speaker 2: It's your dose of the hottest influencer and pop culture
• 0:09
Speaker 2: news twice a week. I'm Sophie Torber and coming up
• 0:12
Speaker 2: on today's show, Sarah's Day's sunburn strategy, the latest on
• 0:17
Speaker 2: the Taylor Swift terror plot, and Ella and Dom pull
• 0:20
  Speaker 2: the pin on.
• 0:20
  Speaker 1: Their controversial podcast.
• 0:22
Speaker 2: But first, Sammy Robinson has been spotted in the arms
• 0:26
Speaker 2: of another man. Now back in May, Sammy appeared to
• 0:30
Speaker 2: soft launch Sammy Wilkes in her video, who is a
• 0:33
Speaker 2: singer and American internet personality who has over 1.6 million followers. Now,
• 0:39
Speaker 2: whilst we didn't see his face in this mukbang video,
• 0:42
Speaker 2: his voice and arm did appear in it, and he
• 0:44
Speaker 2: was spotted wearing a bracelet with the initials SW.
• 0:48
Speaker 1: Now, it wasn't long.
• 0:50
Speaker 2: Before super sleuths put the clues together, found out his name,
• 0:53
Speaker 2: and it was posted all over gossip sites. Now, Sammy
• 0:57
Speaker 2: Wilkes lives in LA, but Sammy has been spending a
• 1:00
Speaker 2: fair bit of time there this year as she grows
• 1:03
Speaker 2: one mile in the US.
• 1:04
Speaker 1: This is so confusing. Sammy and Sammy.
• 1:08
Speaker 2: I've always wondered if people get put off from dating
• 1:11
Speaker 2: a person with a similar or with the same name. Well,
• 1:14
Speaker 2: it's like Sophie Keisha and Sophie van der Heuvel. Surely
• 1:17
Speaker 2: it becomes a problem at some point. Now, over the weekend,
• 1:21
Speaker 2: our inbox was inundated with listeners sending through an Instagram
• 1:25
Speaker 2: story of Sammy leaping into the arms of another man
• 1:29
Speaker 2: and appearing to kiss him. Now, for those who haven't
• 1:33
Speaker 2: seen it, I have to say, I am not convinced
• 1:35
Speaker 2: that this was a genuine kiss because you saw her
• 1:39
Speaker 2: head and hair fling over him, but you didn't actually
• 1:42
Speaker 2: see their lips touching. And there was a lot of
• 1:45
Speaker 2: laughter after it. It seemed maybe like a joke.
• 1:48
Speaker 1: What, so you're saying that they're just friends?
• 1:51
Speaker 2: I think that they might just be friends because they
• 1:53
Speaker 2: were hanging out after the city to surf, which they
• 1:56
Speaker 2: both competed in with a number of friends. Now, this
• 1:58
Speaker 2: guy is called Cameron Carter and he is the director
• 2:02
Speaker 2: of a company called Mr. C, which appears to be
• 2:04
Speaker 2: a marketing company. And on his Instagram account, he mostly
• 2:08
Speaker 2: posts about his work and he posted a photo of
• 2:11
Speaker 2: Sammy in June at fashion week.
• 2:13
Speaker 1: And she sent little love hearts back to him.
• 2:15
Speaker 2: And he often shares fashion photos of other celebrities wearing
• 2:19
Speaker 2: his client's clothes. So I think that they're friends through
• 2:22
Speaker 2: business and work. And I think that they're perhaps having
• 2:26
Speaker 2: a bit of a laugh to either make someone jealous
• 2:29
Speaker 2: or attract attention. Yeah, it's an interesting move because they
• 2:32
Speaker 2: would know there's going to be so much speculation online,
• 2:35
Speaker 2: especially when they're sharing videos of what appears to be
• 2:38
Speaker 2: them kissing. It comes at an interesting time because over
• 2:41
Speaker 2: the weekend, influencer updates reported that Sammy had unfollowed a
• 2:45
Speaker 2: guy called Sean Stevenson. Now, he is a New Zealand
• 2:49
Speaker 2: rugby player who she was rumored to be dating previously.
• 2:52
Speaker 1: So she seems to be getting rid of a bit
• 2:54
  Speaker 1: of dead wood.
• 2:55
Speaker 2: She might be entering her single girl era, as much
• 2:58
Speaker 2: as I hate using that term.
• 3:00
Speaker 1: Hot girl summer on the horizon.
• 3:01
Speaker 3: It was a hat and sunnies for me and honestly
• 3:04
Speaker 3: hide me from the world until I can just lay
• 3:06
  Speaker 3: in the sun.
• 3:07
Speaker 2: Fitness influencer Sarah's Day has caused a stir whilst holidaying
• 3:11
Speaker 2: in Hawaii with her family. Despite spending an estimated.
• 3:15
  Speaker 1: $ 48, 000.
• 3:15
Speaker 2: To fly her family of four business class, the divisive
• 3:20
Speaker 2: influencer spent the first day of her trip complaining about
• 3:23
  Speaker 2: the price.
• 3:24
Speaker 1: Of a Hawaiian coffee.
• 3:25
Speaker 2: She also used a severe sunburn as an opportunity to
• 3:29
Speaker 2: sell skincare. Sophie, Sarah wasn't overly impressed with her experience
• 3:34
Speaker 2: with Qantas business class. No, I don't think the Qantas
• 3:37
Speaker 2: team would have been overly wrapped with the content that
• 3:39
Speaker 2: she produced because She shared a reel detailing her experience
• 3:43
Speaker 2: flying Qantas business class with her husband, Kurt, and their
• 3:46
Speaker 2: two kids. And they flew directly from Sydney to Hawaii,
• 3:50
Speaker 2: which was a 10-hour flight overnight. Now, this content is
• 3:53
Speaker 2: becoming quite popular on TikTok. I recently saw Beck Lomas
• 3:57
Speaker 2: sharing about her experience flying first class to the U.K.,
• 4:02
Speaker 2: And I love this whole fly on the wall look
• 4:04
Speaker 2: at how the other half live because it is like
• 4:07
Speaker 2: another world up there.
• 4:08
Speaker 1: There are lie down beds. There's restaurant quality food.
• 4:11
Speaker 2: And the amount of space that you personally get is
• 4:14
Speaker 2: just obscene compared to what people get in cattle class.
• 4:18
Speaker 2: There is a big market for these reviews on airplane food.
• 4:21
Speaker 2: I've seen them all over TikTok and I love watching them.
• 4:24
Speaker 2: Even my 70-year-old dad will.
• 4:26
Speaker 1: Sit down on YouTube and watch food reviews.
• 4:28
Speaker 2: Well, this is what I think Sarah was going for
• 4:30
Speaker 2: because in this reel, she included shots of her eating
• 4:34
Speaker 2: her entree and main, but then she said she decided
• 4:37
Speaker 2: not to give a review.
• 4:38
Speaker 1: Here's what she said.
• 4:40
Speaker 4: Now, this was a night flight and we were flying business,
• 4:42
Speaker 4: so I was honestly really looking forward to the food,
• 4:45
Speaker 4: but I don't want to be a downer because usually-
• 4:48
Speaker 4: I will rave about these meals, but tonight I'm not
• 4:50
Speaker 4: even going to give it a rating because I will genuinely.
• 4:53
Speaker 1: Just be so savage.
• 4:54
Speaker 2: Let's just say it didn't hit the mark for me.
• 4:56
Speaker 2: For reference, she had ordered a pumpkin soup with bread
• 5:01
Speaker 2: for entree and what looked like a pad thai with
• 5:04
Speaker 2: lots of chicken for main. To me, who's only experienced
• 5:08
Speaker 2: cattle class, the food looked pretty nice. I'm disappointed that
• 5:12
Speaker 2: Sarah didn't go there because I actually enjoy a savage
• 5:15
Speaker 2: food review. I used to listen to Sam Magnan's podcast,
• 5:19
Speaker 2: Literally Nobody Cares, and he is an avid first class
• 5:22
Speaker 2: or business class flyer. And he would go into the
• 5:25
Speaker 2: most hilarious detail about how shit some.
• 5:27
Speaker 1: Of these meals actually were, but it was all a
• 5:29
Speaker 1: bit of tongue and cheek.
• 5:30
Speaker 2: I don't think that sort of review would have hit
• 5:33
Speaker 2: the mark with Sarah's followers though, because we're in such
• 5:36
Speaker 2: a tough economic crisis, the optics of complaining about flying
• 5:39
Speaker 2: business class with your family of four whilst people can't
• 5:41
Speaker 2: even afford to go on a holiday.
• 5:43
Speaker 1: It doesn't look good.
• 5:44
Speaker 2: I get all of that, but I don't understand then
• 5:45
Speaker 2: why she shared anything about it. Well, I think it
• 5:48
Speaker 2: sounded like the taste of the food wasn't her only problem.
• 5:51
Speaker 2: It was also the time that the food was served.
• 5:53
Speaker 2: So the entree was served at 9.30 PM. Mains came
• 5:57
Speaker 2: out at 11.30 PM and breakfast was at 3 AM.
• 6:00
Speaker 2: And she explained that because of these times, it was
• 6:03
Speaker 2: very difficult to get her son Malachi down to sleep.
• 6:06
Speaker 2: It must be so tough traveling with kids. I don't
• 6:09
Speaker 2: have kids, but now that we've got a nephew, I'm like,
• 6:11
Speaker 2: everything is 10 times harder.
• 6:12
Speaker 1: When Kate brings him out.
• 6:14
Speaker 2: But can you imagine how much more difficult it is
• 6:17
Speaker 2: to get your kid to sleep in cattle class when
• 6:19
Speaker 2: you don't have a bed and an individual spot for them? Well,
• 6:23
Speaker 2: Sarah seems to have a thing with complaining about flights
• 6:25
Speaker 2: to Hawaii because she caused a lot of controversy a
• 6:28
Speaker 2: few years ago when she flew Hawaiian Airlines. And there
• 6:31
Speaker 2: was a delay with her flight and she badmouthed the
• 6:34
Speaker 2: airline so much. She had her followers reaching out to
• 6:37
Speaker 2: the company to complain. Well, it's probably why she didn't
• 6:39
Speaker 2: fly her one again. Maybe they wouldn't have her on board.
• 6:42
Speaker 2: It's funny because she didn't actually point out that she
• 6:45
Speaker 2: was flying Qantas in the video, but she did this
• 6:48
Speaker 2: skincare routine in the bathroom, which says just how big
• 6:52
Speaker 2: the first class and business class bathroom must be that
• 6:55
Speaker 2: you'd want to be in there for longer than two seconds.
• 6:57
Speaker 2: And she pulled on the iconic Qantas pajamas. So it
• 7:00
Speaker 2: was quite clear who she was flying with. She was
• 7:02
Speaker 2: quite mindful to point out that she's heavily pregnant and
• 7:05
Speaker 2: she was very grateful for the lie down bed. But
• 7:08
Speaker 2: she then said that she didn't get a wink of sleep.
• 7:09
Speaker 2: So it was an interesting review. Now, this video was
• 7:13
Speaker 2: juxtapositioned with Sarah then complaining about the cost of expensive
• 7:19
  Speaker 2: coffee in Hawaii.
• 7:20
Speaker 1: Here's what she said.
• 7:22
Speaker 3: Unfortunately for us, the Australian dollar, like a coffee here
• 7:28
Speaker 3: is like a normal coffee price. Like let's say we
• 7:30
  Speaker 3: would get a $ 6 coffee. We're paying like, oh, we're
• 7:33
Speaker 3: paying like $ 10 a coffee. Because when we transferred our money,
• 7:37
Speaker 3: for every dollar we transferred, we got like 60 cents. Stub.
• 7:41
Speaker 1: I've noticed this a lot with some influencers.
• 7:43
Speaker 2: Where they'll drop all of this money on one thing,
• 7:47
Speaker 2: but then cry poor or pretend that they're so relatable
• 7:50
Speaker 2: by complaining about an everyday item like the.
• 7:53
Speaker 1: Cost of a coffee.
• 7:53
Speaker 2: It's their way to have a relatable moment with their
• 7:56
Speaker 2: followers because the majority of the population loves to complain
• 8:00
Speaker 2: about coffee and how overpriced it is. But it didn't
• 8:03
Speaker 2: really land well seeing as we've just seen her drop
• 8:05
Speaker 2: an excessive amount of money on flying business class with
• 8:08
Speaker 2: a family of four.
• 8:09
Speaker 1: Just to point out.
• 8:10
Speaker 2: How expensive these tickets are, I searched Qantas at this
• 8:13
Speaker 2: time of year and one business class ticket to Hawaii
• 8:17
  Speaker 2: from Sydney costs.
• 8:19
  Speaker 1: $ 6, 000.
• 8:19
Speaker 2: So to fly business class return for a family of four,
• 8:24
Speaker 2: that works out to $ 48, 000 and that is before you've
• 8:27
Speaker 2: then spent money on accommodation and expensive coffees.
• 8:30
  Speaker 1: I wonder if.
• 8:31
Speaker 2: This trip could be considered a tax deduction for Sarah
• 8:34
Speaker 2: because she is filming her content over there.
• 8:37
Speaker 1: Oh, surely not. I think that that would be a
• 8:39
Speaker 1: bit of an over-exaggeration.
• 8:41
Speaker 2: Yeah, but so many influencers would do it because they
• 8:44
Speaker 2: are actually doing their job overseas. You might be able
• 8:47
Speaker 2: to actually get some form of tax deduction for half
• 8:50
Speaker 2: the trip, for example.
• 8:51
  Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
• 8:52
Speaker 2: Well, a follower did point out the irony of her
• 8:55
Speaker 2: coffee complaint saying, it's slightly funny to spend that much
• 8:58
Speaker 2: money on flights, but complain about the $ 10 coffee in Hawaii.
• 9:01
Speaker 1: I'm sure that person was swiftly deleted.
• 9:03
Speaker 2: Well, no. So the comment got 102 likes and Sarah
• 9:07
Speaker 2: replied with a laughing face saying, it's the principle and
• 9:10
Speaker 2: what I'm getting for money.
• 9:11
Speaker 1: It makes sense in my mind.
• 9:13
Speaker 2: I think the irony of this comment was further backed
• 9:16
Speaker 2: up by the fact that they are staying at this
• 9:18
  Speaker 2: luxurious oceanfront villa.
• 9:20
Speaker 1: This place looked absolutely insane.
• 9:22
Speaker 2: You walk out the front and it's literally got the
• 9:24
Speaker 2: grass which leads you down to the beach. I would
• 9:26
Speaker 2: hate to think how much this cost. The whole thing
• 9:29
Speaker 2: is it's her money and she can spend it however
• 9:31
Speaker 2: she likes. But I think it just looks a bit
• 9:33
Speaker 2: disingenuous when you're complaining about the cost of a coffee
• 9:36
Speaker 2: and then you're staying at this kind of accommodation. Yeah.
• 9:39
Speaker 2: It was quite interesting because at the end of Sarah's
• 9:42
Speaker 2: video about Qantas, she finished by saying this.
• 9:46
  Speaker 1: I looked disgusting.
• 9:47
Speaker 3: So it was a hat and sunnies for me and
• 9:49
Speaker 3: honestly hide me from the world until I can just
• 9:51
Speaker 3: lay in the sun.
• 9:53
Speaker 2: And Sarah really didn't waste time spending her first day
• 9:56
Speaker 2: of the holiday lying in the sun in a bikini
• 9:58
Speaker 2: with no sun cream on. So the next day, probably
• 10:01
Speaker 2: realizing it would be impossible to hide this burn as
• 10:04
Speaker 2: she was red raw all over her pregnant belly and chest.
• 10:08
Speaker 2: She addressed it on her stories, writing, I've been so
• 10:11
Speaker 2: diligent in my adult years, but wow, I messed up
• 10:13
Speaker 2: on day one of the Hawaiian sun after coming out
• 10:16
Speaker 2: of Sydney winter. I don't even want to show you
• 10:18
  Speaker 2: the aftermath.
• 10:20
Speaker 3: Anyway, I just wanted to update you here because I
• 10:22
Speaker 3: left you hanging with that whole, like, I'm so mad
• 10:24
  Speaker 3: at my sunburn.
• 10:24
  Speaker 2: I am.
• 10:25
Speaker 1: I'm mad at myself. I'm mad at myself.
• 10:28
Speaker 3: I'm not even going to give you my excuse because it's, like, cringe.
• 10:31
Speaker 3: My excuse, it's cringe, and it just makes no sense. Anyway,
• 10:37
Speaker 3: sucks to be me, but not really.
• 10:39
Speaker 1: It doesn't really suck to be me.
• 10:40
  Speaker 2: No.
• 10:40
Speaker 3: Sucks for my skin and my future self with my skin, but,
• 10:44
Speaker 3: you know, you win some, you lose some.
• 10:47
Speaker 2: I want to reiterate that she pointed out that she
• 10:49
Speaker 2: wasn't proud of this and she was quite embarrassed about it.
• 10:53
Speaker 2: But despite being ashamed of the burn, she used it
• 10:56
Speaker 2: as an opportunity to slip in what I guess she
• 10:59
Speaker 2: saw as being an authentic ad. So she has been
• 11:02
Speaker 2: working with skincare brand Esme for a number of years
• 11:05
Speaker 2: now and uploaded a video whilst in Hawaii for their
• 11:09
Speaker 2: after sun gel. The product describes itself as taking the
• 11:12
Speaker 2: heat out of exposed skin with aloe vera calming sunburn.
• 11:17
Speaker 1: Here's part of what she said in the ad.
• 11:20
Speaker 3: Yay, we're here in Hawaii, but what is wrong with me?
• 11:22
Speaker 3: How did I do this on day one? Like a
• 11:24
Speaker 3: lot of you guys have commented and said that when
• 11:26
Speaker 3: you're pregnant, you're more susceptible to sunburn, but no, I'm
• 11:29
  Speaker 3: just an idiot and I didn't reapply. So I don't
• 11:31
Speaker 3: even think I had sunscreen on this day. I don't
• 11:33
  Speaker 3: even know.
• 11:33
Speaker 1: It was day one.
• 11:34
Speaker 3: Anyway, pro tip, if you do happen to get sunburned
• 11:36
Speaker 3: or just even after a day in the sun, I
• 11:38
Speaker 3: lather myself in this sun skills after sun gel. It
• 11:41
Speaker 3: has both aloe vera and hyaluronic acid, green tea, peppermint extract.
• 11:45
Speaker 3: It's just full of all the good stuff to rehydrate
• 11:47
Speaker 3: your skin and just soothe any kind of burning.
• 11:50
Speaker 2: I want to point out that nowhere in this reel,
• 11:52
Speaker 2: all the countless stories that she uploaded about Esme, did
• 11:56
Speaker 2: she include the word ad or paid.
• 11:58
Speaker 1: Partnership, which is such a trend at the moment.
• 12:01
Speaker 2: No one is using the paid partnership tools, which is
• 12:04
Speaker 2: so disappointing. It infuriates me so much because it's really
• 12:07
Speaker 2: not that difficult to do. And it's, I mean, it
• 12:10
Speaker 2: is clear that it's an ad because she managed to
• 12:11
Speaker 2: include her freshly updated 30% off code.
• 12:15
  Speaker 1: Surely though.
• 12:17
Speaker 2: She hasn't just gone and burned herself in order to
• 12:20
Speaker 2: promote this product. This was a thought that was echoed
• 12:22
Speaker 2: by Influencer Updates AU. And I personally don't think that
• 12:26
Speaker 2: she intentionally burnt herself for the sake of this content.
• 12:29
Speaker 2: I don't think that she cares that much about her
• 12:32
Speaker 2: partnership with Esme. I think that she thought perhaps on
• 12:36
Speaker 2: this trip, she'd get more of a gradual tan when
• 12:38
Speaker 2: she was over there and she could use the aloe
• 12:41
Speaker 2: vera in some content.
• 12:43
Speaker 1: She is very clever though. She knows what gets clicks.
• 12:45
Speaker 2: And she explained on her story that she already had
• 12:48
Speaker 2: 2000 people message her, giving her advice on her burn.
• 12:51
Speaker 2: So she probably thought that this was a lucrative opportunity
• 12:54
Speaker 2: for her ad to perform well. Maybe she could sign
• 12:57
Speaker 2: Esme on for another year. I mean, I'd never heard
• 13:00
Speaker 2: of this after sun gel. It sounds pretty good. Well,
• 13:04
Speaker 2: she was obviously preempting a burn. It's funny because Sarah
• 13:07
Speaker 2: said in her Instagram story, oh, I'm normally so good,
• 13:10
  Speaker 2: but She's had.
• 13:11
Speaker 1: A real checkered past of promoting tanning.
• 13:14
Speaker 2: Yeah, she's been criticized in the past for sharing about burns.
• 13:17
Speaker 2: And she's known for someone who doesn't generally fake tan,
• 13:21
Speaker 2: but she prefers to sit outside in the sun when
• 13:24
Speaker 2: she's working on her computer in the hope of getting
• 13:26
Speaker 2: a natural tan. And this is quite damaging rhetoric because
• 13:31
Speaker 2: no tan is safe. Even if you're sitting out in
• 13:34
Speaker 2: the sun and you're not getting burnt, that tan is
• 13:36
Speaker 2: a sign that your skin is damaged. And despite the
• 13:39
Speaker 2: fact that she said she felt ashamed, I felt like
• 13:41
Speaker 2: she was kind of using that as a disclaimer to
• 13:44
Speaker 2: then give her a free pass to show off the burn. Yeah,
• 13:47
Speaker 2: because like it's this badge of honour sometimes. I've seen
• 13:50
Speaker 2: so many influencers do this. You can tell they're proud
• 13:53
Speaker 2: because they're like, oh, it's going to turn brown. I
• 13:54
Speaker 2: have seen this a lot with a couple of the
• 13:56
Speaker 2: UK influencers I follow and I understand that they don't
• 14:00
Speaker 2: have the education in sun safety that we have in Australia,
• 14:03
Speaker 2: but it is a really worrying trend. The era's tour
• 14:19
Speaker 2: has become a safe place for so many Swifties. The
• 14:23
Speaker 2: atmosphere is magical as fans exchange friendship bracelets and showcase
• 14:27
Speaker 2: outfits that have been months in the making. Fans in
• 14:30
Speaker 2: Vienna were preparing to have the night of their lives
• 14:33
Speaker 2: unaware that four teenagers were planning a chilling terror plot. Sophie,
• 14:37
Speaker 2: what has unfolded so far? Well, on Wednesday, authorities were
• 14:41
Speaker 2: forced to cancel the Vienna leg of Taylor Swift's era's
• 14:44
Speaker 2: tour after foiling a planned terrorist attack at the stadium. Now,
• 14:49
Speaker 2: three teenagers have been arrested and one is being questioned
• 14:52
Speaker 2: over the incident. Now, the main suspect has been revealed
• 14:56
Speaker 2: as a 19-year-old called Baran A, who is an Austrian citizen.
• 15:01
Speaker 2: He is believed to have pledged allegiance to Islamic State
• 15:04
Speaker 2: in the last month, and has been radicalized online. He
• 15:08
Speaker 2: had a 17-year-old, 18-year-old, and 15-year-old working as his accomplices. Now,
• 15:14
Speaker 2: Bahrain confessed to planning to kill as many people as
• 15:18
Speaker 2: possible outside the concert venue. He intended on carrying out
• 15:22
Speaker 2: an attack in the area outside the stadium and by
• 15:25
Speaker 2: driving his car into the crowds before using knives, machetes
• 15:29
Speaker 2: and homemade explosive devices. Bomb-making materials were also found during
• 15:35
Speaker 2: a raid of his house and what is even more
• 15:37
Speaker 2: chilling is his 17-year-old accomplice is believed to have been
• 15:41
Speaker 2: employed as a security guard for the concert and would
• 15:44
Speaker 2: have carried out the attack from inside. If this had happened,
• 15:47
Speaker 2: I just can't get over the absolute horror and confusion
• 15:50
Speaker 2: that would have played out to think that a security
• 15:53
Speaker 2: guard who is there to protect fans would then turn
• 15:56
Speaker 2: into the attacker is just pure evil. It makes me
• 15:58
Speaker 2: feel so sick. And think of it from a social
• 16:00
Speaker 2: media perspective. Each night, this concert is live streamed. Everyone
• 16:05
Speaker 2: has their phone out filming every moment for TikTok. There
• 16:08
Speaker 2: would have been absolutely horrifying clips. And this is a
• 16:11
Speaker 2: place predominantly where young women can unashamedly be themselves. They
• 16:15
Speaker 2: can dance around, be silly, wear costumes. They're encouraged to
• 16:19
Speaker 2: make friends with people in the crowd. It is also
• 16:22
Speaker 2: so terrifying that not only were these teenagers planning to
• 16:25
Speaker 2: set off a bomb, but they were going to cause
• 16:28
Speaker 2: mass deaths through stabbing as many people as possible. And
• 16:32
Speaker 2: this comes off the back of the Southport stabbing where
• 16:35
Speaker 2: three little girls were stabbed to death at a Taylor
• 16:37
  Speaker 2: Swift theme.
• 16:38
Speaker 1: Event in the UK.
• 16:39
Speaker 2: And closer to home, just a couple of months ago,
• 16:42
Speaker 2: we saw women and a baby being stabbed at Westfield
• 16:45
Speaker 2: Bondi Junction. And that, again, was supposed to be such
• 16:48
Speaker 2: a safe and happy space for women. I felt so
• 16:51
Speaker 2: angry when I saw this come out because I've seen
• 16:54
Speaker 2: so many recent videos of tens of thousands of fans
• 16:57
Speaker 2: who wait outside the concert, all of those fans who
• 17:00
Speaker 2: have been unable to get tickets. And the thought of
• 17:03
Speaker 2: them being mowed down by cars just made me feel sick. Well,
• 17:08
Speaker 2: whilst there were 65,000 fans expected in the stadium, around
• 17:10
Speaker 2: 20,000 to 30,000 were going to be gathering outside. And
• 17:17
Speaker 2: we saw incredible scenes in Germany recently where thousands of
• 17:20
Speaker 2: fans swarmed a nearby hill to listen to the concert.
• 17:23
Speaker 1: And it was such a.
• 17:24
Speaker 2: Beautiful sight because the crowd was sitting there on picnic
• 17:27
Speaker 2: rugs singing along to Taylor Swift. And it's disgusting to
• 17:31
Speaker 2: think that someone would see this joy.
• 17:33
Speaker 1: And think, how can I destroy this?
• 17:35
Speaker 2: And how can I take this opportunity and turn it
• 17:38
Speaker 2: into absolute chaos? Now, the main suspect told authorities that
• 17:42
Speaker 2: he began planning this attack last month. So he he
• 17:46
Speaker 2: uploaded to the internet his oath of allegiance to the
• 17:49
Speaker 2: current head of ISIS two days before.
• 17:52
  Speaker 1: The planned attacks.
• 17:53
Speaker 2: And it's so lucky that this tip-off came just a
• 17:55
Speaker 2: day before the concert was going to take place. And
• 17:58
Speaker 2: this actually came through US intelligence services who informed their
• 18:02
Speaker 2: Austrian counterparts. Well, the first place I saw this announcement
• 18:05
Speaker 2: was on Taylor Nation, which is Taylor's official management team.
• 18:09
Speaker 2: And at the time of recording, Taylor Swift hasn't officially
• 18:13
Speaker 2: posted about the cancellation, But there are reports she's offering
• 18:16
Speaker 2: fans in Vienna the opportunity to go and watch the
• 18:19
Speaker 2: era's tour for free at the movies. Yeah, well, for Taylor,
• 18:22
Speaker 2: cancelling the show wouldn't come lightly. She has such a
• 18:25
Speaker 2: genuine relationship with her fan base and she will do
• 18:28
Speaker 2: anything to avoid letting them down. In an interview for
• 18:31
Speaker 2: Time's Person of the Year, Taylor said cancelling a show
• 18:35
Speaker 2: is nearly never an option. So she said, I know
• 18:38
Speaker 2: I'm going on stage whether I'm sick, injured, heartbroken, uncomfortable
• 18:42
Speaker 2: or stressed. That's part of my identity as a human
• 18:44
Speaker 2: being now. If someone buys a ticket to my show,
• 18:47
Speaker 2: I'm going to play it. Now since the cancellation, an
• 18:50
Speaker 2: interview of Taylor discussing her biggest fears has also gone viral.
• 18:55
Speaker 2: So in the 2019 interview with Elle, Taylor admitted that
• 18:59
Speaker 2: her biggest fear is violence breaking out at one of
• 19:02
Speaker 2: her concerts. And she recalled feeling terrified to go on
• 19:05
Speaker 2: tour for her 2017 album Reputation with following a string
• 19:10
Speaker 2: of violent attacks at recent festivals. So if you'll cast
• 19:13
Speaker 2: your minds back to 2017, a suicide bomber killed 22
• 19:17
Speaker 2: people and injured hundreds at Ariana Grande's concert in Manchester.
• 19:21
Speaker 2: And five months later, a lone gunman murdered 58 people
• 19:25
Speaker 2: at an outdoor country music festival in Las Vegas. Now,
• 19:28
Speaker 2: Taylor said, I was completely terrified to go on tour
• 19:31
Speaker 2: this time because I didn't know how we were going
• 19:33
Speaker 2: to keep 3 million fans safe over seven months. She
• 19:37
Speaker 2: did back it up by saying there was a tremendous
• 19:39
Speaker 2: amount of planning, expenses and effort put into keeping her
• 19:42
Speaker 2: fans safe during that tour. Another horrifying fact that Taylor
• 19:46
Speaker 2: revealed after these events was that she now carries a
• 19:50
Speaker 2: army grade bandage dressing, which is specifically used.
• 19:53
Speaker 1: For gunshot or stab wounds.
• 19:55
Speaker 2: This incident also comes less than a month after one
• 19:58
Speaker 2: of Taylor Swift's suspected stalkers was arrested.
• 20:01
Speaker 1: While trying to enter one of her German shows.
• 20:03
Speaker 2: So an American man who hasn't been named came to
• 20:07
Speaker 2: the attention of authorities after he allegedly made threats on
• 20:10
Speaker 2: social media against Taylor Swift and also her boyfriend, Travis Kelsey. Now,
• 20:15
Speaker 2: Travis was in attendance at the concert. And this is
• 20:19
Speaker 2: just one of many stalkers that Taylor Swift has. In 2018...
• 20:23
Speaker 2: She told Newsweek that she used facial recognition software at
• 20:27
Speaker 2: her concerts to identify her known stalkers on a database.
• 20:31
Speaker 2: I was going to say, is there just like a
• 20:32
Speaker 2: print off of this man's photo at security?
• 20:34
Speaker 1: No, it's much more high tech than that.
• 20:36
Speaker 2: It is a really scary time for the couple because
• 20:39
Speaker 2: only a week ago, Travis Kelsey and a teammate received
• 20:43
Speaker 2: a threat where someone said that they were going to
• 20:44
Speaker 2: shoot them at a concert they were at.
• 20:46
Speaker 1: This wasn't a Taylor Swift concert. It was a Morgan
• 20:48
  Speaker 1: Wallen concert.
• 20:50
Speaker 2: It's sad to see this because we saw during Coachella
• 20:53
Speaker 2: that Taylor and Travis were out and about. They were
• 20:56
Speaker 2: having a nice time at the festival. It seems like
• 21:00
Speaker 2: they can't do this anymore after all of these threats.
• 21:02
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 21:03
Speaker 2: There has been a lot of speculation around why Taylor
• 21:06
Speaker 2: hasn't publicly commented on the incident because when a fan
• 21:10
Speaker 2: died at one of her concerts in Brazil this year,
• 21:13
Speaker 2: she put out a comment. She also put out a
• 21:14
Speaker 2: comment about the Southport stabbing. So fans were anticipating that
• 21:19
Speaker 2: she was going to say something about this incident.
• 21:21
  Speaker 1: I think it's because it's really unknown.
• 21:24
Speaker 2: And she's probably been told by police, look.
• 21:26
Speaker 1: You can't officially put any information out there.
• 21:28
Speaker 2: Well, initially fans thought that Taylor and her team may
• 21:32
Speaker 2: be holding off from making an announcement because they could
• 21:34
Speaker 2: be considering cancelling her London shows because she's supposed to
• 21:39
Speaker 2: be playing five shows at Wembley this week, which will
• 21:42
Speaker 2: bring the European leg of her tour to a close.
• 21:45
Speaker 2: And in the UK, there is just so much political
• 21:48
Speaker 2: unrest at the moment. As we touched on two weeks ago,
• 21:50
Speaker 2: there were those terrible stabbings. And Taylor said at the
• 21:53
Speaker 2: time that she was in complete shock over that attack. Now,
• 21:57
Speaker 2: London's mayor has confirmed that the concerts will go ahead,
• 22:01
Speaker 2: saying we're going to carry on. And he confirmed that
• 22:04
Speaker 2: authorities had adapted their surveillance of shows in London based
• 22:08
Speaker 2: on what they learnt from the 2017 attack on Ariana
• 22:11
Speaker 2: Grande's concert. I did see comments online. People were saying, well,
• 22:15
Speaker 2: if Wembley is secure enough for the royal family, surely
• 22:18
Speaker 2: it's secure enough for Taylor Swift. Yeah, and London has
• 22:20
Speaker 2: had a lot of experience in handling these kind of
• 22:22
Speaker 2: threats in the past. So out of any of the cities,
• 22:25
Speaker 2: I think London is best suited to handle this situation. Well,
• 22:29
Speaker 2: authorities would be hoping that this is an isolated incident.
• 22:32
Speaker 2: I think that she stayed silent about these attacks because
• 22:35
Speaker 2: she's received advice from counter-terrorist intelligence. So maybe they have
• 22:39
Speaker 2: told her that if she makes.
• 22:41
  Speaker 1: A public response.
• 22:42
Speaker 2: it could potentially fuel terrorists to target another show. Because
• 22:46
Speaker 2: if she comes out and says, oh, this event has
• 22:49
Speaker 2: hit me so hard, it could incite more violence because
• 22:52
Speaker 2: they know that it had such an impact on her.
• 22:54
Speaker 2: I think that performing in London could be a real
• 22:57
Speaker 2: healing experience for Taylor and her fans. I think it's
• 23:00
Speaker 2: their step in taking back the power. We have already
• 23:03
Speaker 2: seen Swifties in Vienna sending the message that love is
• 23:06
Speaker 2: stronger than terror. And these images have been going viral
• 23:09
Speaker 2: on TikTok. we've seen Swifties flooding the streets of Vienna
• 23:13
Speaker 2: to perform their own live rendition of the era's tour.
• 23:17
Speaker 2: And these images are so powerful, particularly when Swifties marched
• 23:20
Speaker 2: to the smallest man who ever lived, which seems to
• 23:24
Speaker 2: be directed at the terrorist suspects.
• 23:26
Speaker 1: Well, the lyric that.
• 23:27
Speaker 2: Hit deep was when it said, you were sent by
• 23:30
Speaker 2: someone who wanted me dead. They also sung Taylor's latest single,
• 23:34
Speaker 2: I Can Do It With A Broken Heart, as well
• 23:36
Speaker 2: as the 10 minute version of All Too Well. For
• 23:38
Speaker 2: some reason, I just imagined middle-aged men wanting to go
• 23:42
Speaker 2: out to the city to do some shopping and stumbling
• 23:44
Speaker 2: upon this. Well, it's very defiant of them, especially because
• 23:47
Speaker 2: of the threats that have been made to actually stand
• 23:50
Speaker 2: together in such a large.
• 23:52
Speaker 1: Group on the street.
• 23:53
Speaker 2: Well, I think they felt safe because the suspects had
• 23:56
Speaker 2: been arrested. And I think authorities said it seemed to
• 23:59
Speaker 2: be an isolated incident. It was just such a wholesome
• 24:02
Speaker 2: moment too, because There is another video going viral of
• 24:06
Speaker 2: a bride and groom who were in.
• 24:08
Speaker 1: The streets of Vienna.
• 24:09
Speaker 2: They were hoping to get some photos and they ended
• 24:11
Speaker 2: up being followed by hundreds of Swifties singing Love Story.
• 24:15
Speaker 1: And have you seen it? Because this video is iconic.
• 24:19
Speaker 2: It was just showing how love conquers everything. And one
• 24:22
Speaker 2: follower commented saying that these photos remind them of the
• 24:25
Speaker 2: Grinch movie. So in Hoosville, when the Grinch stole Christmas,
• 24:29
Speaker 2: all of the citizens came out and sang carols together.
• 24:32
Speaker 2: And I think that these videos are so lovely because
• 24:35
Speaker 2: whilst we've seen the worst in humanity, it's also giving
• 24:39
Speaker 2: us a view of the best in humanity and how
• 24:41
Speaker 2: people are overcoming this.
• 24:43
  Speaker 5: Obviously there is.
• 24:44
Speaker 1: You know, the media outlets, the gossip pages.
• 24:47
Speaker 5: The journalists, the reporters, like all of the.
• 24:50
Speaker 1: Above, you know, having a field day.
• 24:53
Speaker 2: Former Married at First Sight contestants Ella and Dom have
• 24:57
Speaker 2: officially pulled the pin on their controversial podcast, Sit With Us.
• 25:01
Speaker 2: The announcement follows months of speculation about the podcaster's friendship.
• 25:05
Speaker 1: Amy, can you tell us what happened?
• 25:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, so on Thursday, Dom shared a statement in the
• 25:10
Speaker 2: Sit With Us Facebook group saying she and Ella had
• 25:13
Speaker 2: come to a joint decision to end the podcast. She wrote,
• 25:17
Speaker 2: as I sit to write this, my heart is filled
• 25:19
Speaker 2: with gratitude for each and every one of you. Over
• 25:22
Speaker 2: the past two years, your unwavering support has meant the
• 25:24
Speaker 2: world to me, and I want to take a moment
• 25:26
Speaker 2: to express my deepest thanks. From the very beginning, Ella
• 25:30
Speaker 2: and I dreamed of building something special, but we could
• 25:33
Speaker 2: never have imagined the amazing community that would grow from
• 25:36
Speaker 2: our idea. Each episode, each discussion is Each shared story
• 25:40
Speaker 2: has been a labor of love and know that our
• 25:42
Speaker 2: content has resonated with people from all corners of the
• 25:45
Speaker 2: world has been beyond rewarding. Now, Dom went on to
• 25:48
Speaker 2: thank the OG listeners for their feedback, engagement and encouragement
• 25:52
Speaker 2: and said it was important they heard about the decision
• 25:54
Speaker 2: directly from her. Now, following the statement, the sit with
• 25:58
Speaker 2: us Instagram and TikTok account were all deleted. I wonder
• 26:02
Speaker 2: if they're deleted or archived because surely someone wants to
• 26:06
Speaker 2: use that page for a different business.
• 26:07
Speaker 1: But Maybe if there.
• 26:09
Speaker 2: Is something going on behind the scenes with this friendship,
• 26:12
Speaker 2: no one wants to actually take the account yet because.
• 26:14
Speaker 1: That would cause more trouble.
• 26:15
Speaker 2: Well, Ella was a notable absentee from this statement. And
• 26:19
Speaker 2: as you said, it led many people to speculate that
• 26:22
Speaker 2: a friendship breakdown could be one of the main reasons
• 26:24
Speaker 2: for the podcast coming to an end. The other reason
• 26:28
Speaker 2: was due to widespread backlash the podcasters received.
• 26:31
Speaker 1: And this was for.
• 26:32
Speaker 2: Platforming maths villain Jack on their show, who controversially told
• 26:36
Speaker 2: a contestant to muzzle his wife. Now, this episode attracted
• 26:40
Speaker 2: the attention of Abby Chatfield, who dedicated a whole episode
• 26:44
Speaker 2: on her own podcast to slamming Ella and Dom's decision
• 26:48
Speaker 2: to give Jack a platform. And it also led to
• 26:51
Speaker 2: Ella and Dom losing tens of thousands of followers on Instagram. Interestingly, though,
• 26:56
Speaker 2: Dom Copp, most of the criticism and she ended up
• 27:00
Speaker 2: checking herself into a mental health facility following all the
• 27:03
Speaker 2: backlash because it just became too much for her to
• 27:05
Speaker 2: bear now as reported by so dramatic rumors have been
• 27:08
Speaker 2: flying that ella was trying to distance herself from dom
• 27:12
Speaker 2: following the controversy the pair also haven't been seen together
• 27:16
Speaker 2: for months and haven't been liking or commenting on one
• 27:20
Speaker 2: another's photos which i think is a telltale sign that
• 27:23
Speaker 2: perhaps this friendship is over So Dramatic also reported that
• 27:27
Speaker 2: Dom has deleted photos from Ella's wedding.
• 27:31
Speaker 1: This seems like a breakup. It's a friendship breakup.
• 27:33
Speaker 2: Well, Ella broke her silence on Friday and she addressed
• 27:37
Speaker 2: the end of the podcast by releasing an Instagram story.
• 27:40
  Speaker 1: Let's have a listen.
• 27:42
Speaker 5: I wanted to make my personal comment on the Sit
• 27:47
Speaker 5: With Us podcast and how, yes, it has come to
• 27:50
  Speaker 5: an end.
• 27:51
Speaker 1: And it's not a sad thing.
• 27:53
  Speaker 5: It's not a bad thing.
• 27:54
  Speaker 1: It's a positive.
• 27:55
  Speaker 5: It's exciting.
• 27:56
Speaker 2: Ella then took a swipe at the media saying not
• 27:59
Speaker 2: to believe everything you read online.
• 28:01
  Speaker 1: Let's have a listen.
• 28:03
Speaker 5: Just want to remind you guys to not believe everything
• 28:06
Speaker 5: that you read online if you haven't learned from the past.
• 28:11
Speaker 1: But that is up to you.
• 28:13
Speaker 5: That is completely your choice. But just want to say
• 28:15
Speaker 5: here that there is.
• 28:17
Speaker 1: No issues with Domini.
• 28:19
Speaker 5: There is no problems.
• 28:21
Speaker 4: It is just fun.
• 28:22
Speaker 5: A chapter closing, and that is okay. And all good
• 28:25
  Speaker 5: things do come.
• 28:26
  Speaker 4: To an end.
• 28:28
Speaker 2: It really shows how damaging that one episode was for
• 28:31
Speaker 2: their overall brand. Yeah, well, what's really fascinating is that
• 28:34
Speaker 2: the Sit With Us podcast actually had their best month
• 28:37
Speaker 2: when the controversial episode dropped.
• 28:40
Speaker 1: So that month, they had.
• 28:41
Speaker 2: 140,000 people who listened to their podcast compared to the
• 28:45
  Speaker 2: month prior.
• 28:46
Speaker 1: When it was only 50,000 listeners.
• 28:48
Speaker 2: So it really shows that controversy does get listeners, but
• 28:52
Speaker 2: it can have long lasting damaging effects to your brand.
• 28:54
Speaker 2: So this just makes me think that clearly they have
• 28:57
Speaker 2: stopped their podcast because their friendship is over. Because if
• 29:00
Speaker 2: you have almost tripled your audience by creating controversy. why
• 29:06
Speaker 2: wouldn't you then have, you know, they've had their time off.
• 29:09
Speaker 2: Dom's gone into the mental health facility.
• 29:11
  Speaker 1: She's got better. They've given it a break. Why wouldn't
• 29:13
Speaker 1: you come back bigger and better than ever? I agree
• 29:16
  Speaker 1: with you.
• 29:16
Speaker 2: I think there's been a clear rift in this friendship.
• 29:18
Speaker 2: And I think it started over this episode because maybe
• 29:21
Speaker 2: Dom felt like she was copping the blame and she
• 29:23
Speaker 2: didn't feel supported by Ella. However, if you think about it,
