- Lucas: Ciao Luna, ready for another episode of Learn Italian with Fexingo? Luna: Ciao Lucas! I'm so ready. I've been practicing our market phrases from last time. Lucas: That's great. Today we're going to the farmer's market to buy some fresh herbs. Luna: Ohh, I love herbs. Basil, parsley, rosemary — yum. Lucas: Perfect. Let's start with the key phrase: 'Vorrei del basilico.' That means 'I would like some basil.' Luna: Vorrei del basilico. Lucas: Exactly. Vorrei is 'I would like', del means 'some', and basilico is basil. Luna: Vorrei del basilico. I can do that. Lucas: Now, when you go to the stall, you'll also want to ask the price: 'Quanto costa?' How much does it cost? Luna: Quanto costa? We've used that before at the fruit market. Lucas: Right. It works for anything. So you can say: 'Vorrei del basilico. Quanto costa?' Luna: Vorrei del basilico. Quanto costa? Lucas: The vendor might say the price, and then you can say how much you want. For herbs, they often sell them in bunches. So 'Ne vorrei un mazzetto' — I would like a bunch. Luna: Oof, that's a mouthful. Ne vorrei un mazzetto. Lucas: You got it. Ne means 'of it', vorrei is 'I would like', un mazzetto is 'a bunch'. Luna: Un mazzetto. That's cute. Lucas: Then when you pay, you say 'Ecco a lei' — 'Here you are' as you hand over the money. Luna: Ecco a lei. Lucas: And to finish: 'Grazie, arrivederci.' Thank you, goodbye. Luna: Grazie, arrivederci. Lucas: Let's put it all together. Imagine you're at the stand. You say: 'Vorrei del basilico. Quanto costa?' The vendor says 'Due euro.' You say 'Ne vorrei un mazzetto.' You pay, 'Ecco a lei.' And then 'Grazie, arrivederci.' Luna: Okay, let me try. Vorrei del basilico. Quanto costa? Ne vorrei un mazzetto. Ecco a lei. Grazie, arrivederci. Lucas: Perfect. You sound like a local. Luna: Aww, thanks. This is really useful. So let's practice one more time with a different herb. How about 'Vorrei del prezzemolo'? Luna: Prezzemolo? That's parsley, right? Lucas: Correct. Vorrei del prezzemolo. Luna: Vorrei del prezzemolo. Quanto costa? Ne vorrei un mazzetto. Ecco a lei. Grazie, arrivederci. Lucas: Excellent. And one more — rosemary. Rosemary is rosmarino. Luna: Rosmarino. Vorrei del rosmarino. Lucas: Great. Now you can buy basil, parsley, or rosemary at any market. Luna: This is going to make my cooking so much more Italian. Lucas: Absolutely. Keep practicing these phrases, and next time you're at a market in Italy, you'll be ready. Luna: Grazie, Lucas. See you next time on Fexingo! Lucas: Arrivederci, Luna. Ciao a tutti!
