- 0:11Speaker 1: He's the reform It.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Well, good evening and welcome to the Bolt Report. I'm
- 0:17Speaker 2: James Macpherson coming up on the show tonight. John Pursuito
- 0:21Speaker 2: may not even survive until the new year as the.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Leader of the Victorian Liberals.
- 0:25Speaker 2: A new leadership spill is set to take place this Friday.
- 0:28Speaker 2: How the mighty have fallen? And how's this for a
- 0:32Speaker 2: double standard? Jews argue back and are charged with harassment,
- 0:36Speaker 2: but an Islamic preacher who thinks Jews are a vile
- 0:39Speaker 2: and treacherous people, well he's not even given a warning.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I'll get to all of that.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Shortly, but first, there are two simple truths about the
- 0:48Speaker 2: state of Victoria that you need to understand. The first
- 0:52Speaker 2: is that Victoria deserves a lot better than the Labor Party.
- 0:56Speaker 2: The second is that the Victorian Liberal Party deserves a
- 0:58Speaker 2: lot better than John Suto. Until the second is fixed, well,
- 1:03Speaker 2: the first won't be addressed liberally. To John Persuto looked
- 1:07Speaker 2: like a lame duck after Friday's emergency meeting of MPs,
- 1:11Speaker 2: at which he cast a deciding vote to keep more
- 1:13Speaker 2: redeeming out of the party room. But in the space
- 1:16Speaker 2: of just two days he managed to transform himself from
- 1:20Speaker 2: a lame duck into a circus clown.
- 1:22Speaker 3: That's quite the achievement.
- 1:24Speaker 2: After Friday's party room meeting, Persuto had this to say
- 1:27Speaker 2: about the more redeeming affair.
- 1:30Speaker 4: This concludes the matter of the membership, ratherwise of the
- 1:34Speaker 4: parliamentary party.
- 1:35Speaker 5: No, I think the matter has been bookended today, and
- 1:37Speaker 5: today marks the bookend to this discussion here.
- 1:43Speaker 2: But just forty eight hours later, well, he performed a
- 1:46Speaker 2: backflip that would have made Nadia Komenicici blush. Suddenly the
- 1:50Speaker 2: more redeeming issue had not been bookended at all, and
- 1:53Speaker 2: deeming the woman he had defamed as a Nazi sympathizer
- 1:56Speaker 2: and expelled from the party room which she needed to
- 1:59Speaker 2: be readmitted, he issued a statement yesterday that read and
- 2:02Speaker 2: I quote. Since last Friday's meeting, it's become clear that
- 2:06Speaker 2: there is now a definite, absolute majority of my colleagues
- 2:09Speaker 2: who want this issue resolved with her readmission, so that
- 2:13Speaker 2: we can collectively put this behind us.
- 2:16Speaker 3: So let me get this straight.
- 2:18Speaker 2: It was behind them on Friday, but suddenly wasn't behind
- 2:21Speaker 2: them on Sunday, and Pursuto now requires another emergency meeting
- 2:25Speaker 2: on January fifteen. So that what was behind them but
- 2:29Speaker 2: is no longer behind them, can be finally behind them.
- 2:32Speaker 2: And if you think that sentence was hard to follow,
- 2:35Speaker 2: imagine following John Pisuto's leadership, and then Pursuito wrote this quote,
- 2:40Speaker 2: I again apologized to missus deming as we all work
- 2:43Speaker 2: together to ensure the Liberal Party succeeds in winning government
- 2:46Speaker 2: in November twenty twenty six. What did Pursuito mean when
- 2:51Speaker 2: he wrote, I again apologize. Pisuto has never apologized to
- 2:55Speaker 2: More Redeeming, not even after a court found he had
- 2:58Speaker 2: defined her.
- 2:59Speaker 5: And he is to.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Apologize, well, he should do it in person, rather than
- 3:04Speaker 2: in a carefully crafted media statement that has nothing to
- 3:07Speaker 2: do with repentance and everything to do with saving his
- 3:09Speaker 2: own neck, a fact More Redeeming.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Herself pointed out yesterday.
- 3:14Speaker 2: It's now likely that Liberal MPs will demand their own
- 3:16Speaker 2: emergency meeting later this week to replace Pursuito, and not
- 3:20Speaker 2: a moment too soon. But could the Victorian Liberals lurch
- 3:24Speaker 2: from dire to diabolical? I wouldn't put it past them.
- 3:27Speaker 2: This is a political party that's made self sabotage into
- 3:30Speaker 2: an art form. There's talk that some MPs want to
- 3:33Speaker 2: install Jess Wilson as leader because well.
- 3:37Speaker 3: She's a woman. Well she is a woman, but.
- 3:40Speaker 2: She's also been in Parliament only three years and she
- 3:44Speaker 2: was the only Liberal MP to vote yes at the
- 3:46Speaker 2: Voice referendum. The last thing Victoria needs is a Liberal
- 3:50Speaker 2: party led by a leader who is Liberal in name only.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I mean, they've already got that in Pursuito. With Wilson
- 3:57Speaker 2: as leader, the Liberals would probably still lose in twenty
- 4:00Speaker 2: twenty six, but be far less entertaining than with Persuito,
- 4:03Speaker 2: whose leadership could only be improved by Benny hill Music.
- 4:07Speaker 2: On the other hand, if they install Brad Batton, like Dutton,
- 4:10Speaker 2: a former police officer, well if they pick him as leader,
- 4:14Speaker 2: then maybe they're in with a chance. As leader, Baton
- 4:17Speaker 2: should cancel Dan Andrews' suburban rail loop to nowhere and
- 4:20Speaker 2: get cracking on an airport rail line instead. He should
- 4:24Speaker 2: support Dutton's nuclear ambitions while lifting Victoria's ban on drilling
- 4:28Speaker 2: for gas. He should cancel treaty negotiations, get tough on crime,
- 4:32Speaker 2: and repeal that anti property investment tax. And while he's
- 4:35Speaker 2: at it, maybe he could make more redeeming his deputy.
- 4:39Speaker 2: She's a woman but more importantly, she has principles and courage,
- 4:43Speaker 2: two things the Victorian Liberal Party has been sorely missing
- 4:46Speaker 2: under John Pisuto's watch. Do all of that and Victorians
- 4:50Speaker 2: just might have a merry Christmas.
- 4:52Speaker 3: After all.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Well, it's important that we don't forget how John Pursuit
- 5:00Speaker 2: got himself into this mess in the first place. Persudo's
- 5:03Speaker 2: troubles began when he became afraid that More Redeeming's advocacy
- 5:08Speaker 2: for women's rights might be used against him. You see
- 5:11Speaker 2: deeming it helped to organize a rally in support of
- 5:14Speaker 2: female only spaces, and pursuito will he worried that Dan
- 5:18Speaker 2: Andrews might frame him as a transphobe.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Because of it.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Well, the moment Victoria's liberal leader was more worried about
- 5:25Speaker 2: not being portrayed as anti trans than he was about
- 5:28Speaker 2: standing up for biology in women's rights, that was the
- 5:31Speaker 2: moment his leadership became terminal. I mean, what sort of
- 5:35Speaker 2: leader are you if you're not even prepared to defend
- 5:37Speaker 2: women's bathrooms, let alone protect kids from gender botherers. So,
- 5:42Speaker 2: while Pursuto now ponders an inevitable challenge to his leadership
- 5:46Speaker 2: on the other side of the world. A man who's
- 5:49Speaker 2: happy to be smeared as a transphobe if it means
- 5:51Speaker 2: defending biology, women, children, and most importantly, truth, will he
- 5:56Speaker 2: is riding high.
- 5:58Speaker 6: Under the Trump administry, it will be the official policy
- 6:02Speaker 6: of the United States government that there are only two genders,
- 6:07Speaker 6: male and female.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Did you ever imagine a day in which a president
- 6:14Speaker 2: of the United States would insist that a defining characteristic
- 6:17Speaker 2: of his administration would be a recognition of only two genders?
- 6:22Speaker 2: And did you ever imagine a day in which a
- 6:24Speaker 2: crowd would cheer a president for daring to say no
- 6:27Speaker 2: more than there are men and there are women.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Peter Dutton should take note.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Winning elections in twenty twenty five could be as simple
- 6:36Speaker 2: as knowing the difference between men and women and having the.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Courage to say so. Of course, the left.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Will frame Trump's agender as a push against LGBTQ people,
- 6:46Speaker 2: but of course it's not. It's a push against what
- 6:49Speaker 2: Trump calls trans lunacy, lunacy that has men using female bathrooms,
- 6:54Speaker 2: men competing in female sports, and gender confused kids being
- 6:58Speaker 2: sterilized in the mistaken.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Belief that it's the empathetic thing to do with.
- 7:04Speaker 6: A stroke of my pen on day one, We're going
- 7:06Speaker 6: to stop the transgender lunacy, and I will sign executive
- 7:16Speaker 6: orders to end child sexual mutilation, get transgender out of
- 7:21Speaker 6: the military and out of our elementary schools and middle
- 7:25Speaker 6: schools and high school and we will keep men out
- 7:44Speaker 6: of women's sports.
- 7:48Speaker 2: The Trump's speech will be seen as controversial is a
- 7:51Speaker 2: sign of just how far Western thought has fallen. But
- 7:55Speaker 2: maybe we're on a slow path back towards common sense.
- 7:58Speaker 2: On January twenty will have entered the Oval Office and
- 8:01Speaker 2: the world will have returned to biological facts.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Now, if only we could have some of that in Canberra.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Now, just before we get into the news of the day,
- 8:15Speaker 2: I want to say a few words to those Jewish
- 8:17Speaker 2: community leaders who posted this message online today, all.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Those who have been the beacons of moral clarity and
- 8:26Speaker 4: truth telling over the last year, particularly the journalists from
- 8:30Speaker 4: Sky News Australia and the Australian newspaper. We see you,
- 8:33Speaker 4: we hear you, and we thank you.
- 8:36Speaker 7: To everyone at Sky News Australia and the Australian Newspaper,
- 8:39Speaker 7: I want to say thank you, thank you for your
- 8:41Speaker 7: professionalism and for your integrity.
- 8:44Speaker 5: If there would be an a warrant from Media of
- 8:47Speaker 5: the Year. I would like to nominate Sky News Team
- 8:51Speaker 5: Australia and The Australian Newspaper as the Journalists of the
- 8:56Speaker 5: Year for their unparalleled level of speaking the truth.
- 9:01Speaker 3: You guys rock.
- 9:02Speaker 4: Thank you to everyone who had been truth tellers over
- 9:05Speaker 4: the past year, especially the journalists as Sky News Australia
- 9:08Speaker 4: and Australian Newspaper.
- 9:10Speaker 5: I want to thank the team that Sky News Australia
- 9:13Speaker 5: and The Australian for their first class reporting and for
- 9:17Speaker 5: shining a light on the sinister rise of antisemitism in
- 9:21Speaker 5: this country.
- 9:22Speaker 7: I'm sending this message to express my heartfelt gratitude for
- 9:26Speaker 7: the exceptional journalism and unwaiving support for the Jewish community
- 9:29Speaker 7: you have shown in the past twelve months.
- 9:35Speaker 2: The message was I think prompted by the nonsense some
- 9:38Speaker 2: people were spreading that our colleague Aaron Mullin's departure from
- 9:42Speaker 2: Sky was connected to her support for Israel. As my
- 9:45Speaker 2: boss told me today, if that was the case, Sky
- 9:48Speaker 2: News wouldn't have many hosts left.
- 9:50Speaker 6: Well.
- 9:50Speaker 2: I just wanted to say it's always very humbling when
- 9:53Speaker 2: Jewish people say thank you for support. It's just such
- 9:56Speaker 2: a pity that standing for what is right should require thanks.
- 10:00Speaker 2: It should be what every one of us does, especially
- 10:01Speaker 2: when the truth is so obvious and when.
- 10:04Speaker 3: The stakes are so high.
- 10:06Speaker 2: So let's pray that twenty twenty five is the year
- 10:08Speaker 2: in which hostages are released, Israel finds security from its
- 10:12Speaker 2: enemies and Jews around the world, not least of whom
- 10:16Speaker 2: here in Australia no longer have to live in fear. Well,
- 10:24Speaker 2: it might be Christmas, but I'll tell you what, it's
- 10:26Speaker 2: been a busy news week. So joining me now to
- 10:29Speaker 2: discuss it all is Shadow Environment Minister Jonathan Dunham. Thanks
- 10:33Speaker 2: for joining me tonight. I have to ask you, first
- 10:36Speaker 2: obviously about John Pursuito and the mess that is the
- 10:39Speaker 2: Victorian Liberals. Two questions for you. First, should Pursuito remain
- 10:44Speaker 2: as leader? And second is there a danger do you
- 10:46Speaker 2: think the Victorian Liberals will harm Peter Dutton's efforts in
- 10:49Speaker 2: the state as we head to a federal election next
- 10:52Speaker 2: year if they don't get things sorted and sorted quickly?
- 10:59Speaker 1: Well?
- 11:00Speaker 8: Thanks for having me for mister Pizzuto. Can I say
- 11:04Speaker 8: I have no idea how he has managed to take
- 11:08Speaker 8: things from where they were to where they are now.
- 11:10Speaker 8: The job of a leader is to take his party
- 11:13Speaker 8: in the right direction, to do the right thing, and
- 11:15Speaker 8: to stand up for what the community is actually seeking
- 11:18Speaker 8: from a party of government, and that his answers to
- 11:20Speaker 8: the problems that they are facing. But instead we've got
- 11:24Speaker 8: politicians talking about themselves and John Perzuto not really as
- 11:28Speaker 8: a result, offering anything in the way of an alternative.
- 11:31Speaker 8: So to answer a question directly, I'm not sure how
- 11:33Speaker 8: he can stay on. Unfortunately, and there's an age old saying,
- 11:37Speaker 8: a very wise man once said, Australians hate politicians who
- 11:40Speaker 8: talk about themselves. And the upshot as you said earlier
- 11:43Speaker 8: in your program, we've got a government one of the
- 11:46Speaker 8: worst in history, that pathetic Premire Jessina Allen, who really
- 11:51Speaker 8: stands for nothing, and that incompetent Minister Lily dan Brosio,
- 11:56Speaker 8: who I'm surprised still sits on the front bench getting
- 11:59Speaker 8: off scott free while the Liberals are talking about themselves.
- 12:03Speaker 3: So I really hope that.
- 12:05Speaker 8: They sort themselves out and that they do start getting
- 12:08Speaker 8: things right for the people of Victoria. We'll focus on
- 12:12Speaker 8: our race, which is coming up very very quickly, but
- 12:15Speaker 8: soon the sooner they can sort themselves out, the better
- 12:19Speaker 8: for us federally as well, because people do often conflate
- 12:22Speaker 8: these issues. I just hope they do the right thing
- 12:24Speaker 8: by the people that want them to succeed.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Well.
- 12:28Speaker 2: There were reports today that Peter Dutton was delaying an
- 12:31Speaker 2: announcement of a shadow cabinet reshuffle until the Victorians got
- 12:36Speaker 2: things sorted out.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Is that true?
- 12:40Speaker 8: Look, I don't know if that is a reason. I
- 12:42Speaker 8: know that there are a few changes that we need
- 12:44Speaker 8: to make, obviously with the departure of Simon Birmingham and
- 12:47Speaker 8: others who've indicated they won't be recontesting. But I think
- 12:52Speaker 8: it is in the interests of everyone, particularly Victorians who
- 12:55Speaker 8: are doing it tough because of the bad policies of
- 12:57Speaker 8: a terrible government, for Persido to get his house in
- 13:01Speaker 8: order and to ensure that we're in twenty twenty four
- 13:04Speaker 8: and get into twenty twenty five focusing on common sense
- 13:06Speaker 8: and good policies for the people of Victoria and indeed
- 13:09Speaker 8: the rest of Australia.
- 13:13Speaker 2: All right, John Our news from Ukraine overnight with an
- 13:15Speaker 2: Australian man captured by Russian forces. Oscar Jenkins is a
- 13:20Speaker 2: university lecturer from Melbourne who apparently has been fighting alongside Ukrainians.
- 13:25Speaker 2: The circumstances regarding how Jenkins was captured, as well as
- 13:28Speaker 2: why he's fighting in Ukraine are still a bit fuzzy,
- 13:31Speaker 2: but here's a video released by Russian forces of Oscar Jenkins.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Have a look.
- 13:36Speaker 9: Oscar Jenkins thirty thirty two years old, three skiv.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Live in Australia and Ukraine. Tuck Jeez dealers to and
- 13:59Speaker 1: I saw that.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Now.
- 14:01Speaker 2: The governments say they will provide conscialer support to his family,
- 14:05Speaker 2: but that's not going to be easy when you're dealing
- 14:06Speaker 2: with Russia and Putin. This guy, we don't obviously want
- 14:11Speaker 2: him ending up in a gul lag. Now, at the
- 14:13Speaker 2: same time, you've got Simon Boykov, also known as Ozzie Cossack.
- 14:18Speaker 2: He is saying he wants to be swapped in an
- 14:20Speaker 2: exchange for Oscar Jenkins. Boykov has been holed up in
- 14:24Speaker 2: Russia's Sydney consulate for about two years, despite two police
- 14:28Speaker 2: warrants for his arrest over an alleged assault. He was
- 14:32Speaker 2: granted Russian citizenship last year by our president Putin. He's
- 14:37Speaker 2: a supporter of Putin and he says this prison swap
- 14:40Speaker 2: deal is the only hope for Jenkins. It's a bit
- 14:43Speaker 2: of a stretch, but what he thinks, should we do it?
- 14:45Speaker 2: And if we don't, what's the future for this Oscar Jenkins?
- 14:52Speaker 8: Well, I know that Penny Wong has many failings, but
- 14:55Speaker 8: I sincerely hope she can do something to assist an
- 14:58Speaker 8: Australian national co brought up in what he believes is
- 15:02Speaker 8: right to engage in supporting the Ukrainians in their fight
- 15:07Speaker 8: for justice and to protect their sovereignty. I would never
- 15:10Speaker 8: advise in Australian to go and do that, but here
- 15:13Speaker 8: he is. He is off there doing that and now
- 15:15Speaker 8: is caught up in the way that you've just described.
- 15:17Speaker 8: But there is a big difference between that fellow Australian
- 15:21Speaker 8: and mister Boykov, who is a pro Kremlin, pro putin
- 15:27Speaker 8: individual who is engaging in foreign interference, who's sought, in
- 15:32Speaker 8: effect the protection of the Russian government at the consulate
- 15:35Speaker 8: in Sydney. He is not a good egg. He is
- 15:38Speaker 8: doing bad things and he's been there now for two
- 15:41Speaker 8: years while our government has stood idly by and done
- 15:44Speaker 8: nothing about protecting Australia's interests and dealing with someone as
- 15:48Speaker 8: insidious as this fellow. Now for them, or for this
- 15:51Speaker 8: guy to tell us that we only have one chance
- 15:55Speaker 8: to save an Australian national caught up in the Ukraine
- 15:58Speaker 8: Russia conflict, and that is to send him back and
- 16:01Speaker 8: offer a prisoner swap, or that that is not a
- 16:04Speaker 8: good deal and we shouldn't be engaging in such discussions
- 16:07Speaker 8: and people like that. But I do hope every effort
- 16:10Speaker 8: can be put into protecting the safety of mister Jenkins
- 16:14Speaker 8: and bringing him home safely to his family as soon
- 16:16Speaker 8: as possible.
- 16:19Speaker 2: I want to ask you about Tenure Plibisek. The last
- 16:22Speaker 2: week she approved the extension of four coal mines, which
- 16:26Speaker 2: is great, but that same afternoon, Tanya Plibersek had a
- 16:29Speaker 2: very odd boast. She was boasting online that in ten
- 16:33Speaker 2: years labor has approved no new coal mines.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Now the word new, I must say, is.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Doing a lot of hardlifting in that tweet, and of
- 16:41Speaker 2: course the left went mad into overdrive. The community notice
- 16:45Speaker 2: on the tweet said it was demonstratibly untrue, and one
- 16:49Speaker 2: very angry climate protest even spray painted Tanya Plibose's electric
- 16:53Speaker 2: office with the word liar. When Tanya plipersec says they've
- 16:57Speaker 2: approved no new coal mines, is she lying.
- 17:03Speaker 8: I'm afraid she has told a porky James and the
- 17:07Speaker 8: fellow brandishing the bottle of spray paint there has called
- 17:10Speaker 8: her out on that, along with a range of other people.
- 17:12Speaker 8: But our environment minister thinks it's a great thing to
- 17:17Speaker 8: say that we've approved zero new coal mines at a
- 17:20Speaker 8: time when the cost of energy is going through the roof.
- 17:22Speaker 8: Their green energy transition seems to be faltering. She doesn't
- 17:26Speaker 8: even approve the wind farms etc. Necessary to get this
- 17:30Speaker 8: green transition into reality. I mean, this is the ridiculous
- 17:35Speaker 8: nature of it. They don't know whether they're coming or going,
- 17:37Speaker 8: whether they're pro jobs, pro lower power prices, or as
- 17:42Speaker 8: I believe, they are wedded to green ideology and opposing
- 17:45Speaker 8: good projects like coal mines or their extensions. So it
- 17:49Speaker 8: was just laughable for a cabinet minister to have put
- 17:53Speaker 8: that tweet up. Been proven wrong and has been called
- 17:56Speaker 8: out rightly. But honestly, this government is one of the
- 17:59Speaker 8: most inerent when it comes to energy and environment policies
- 18:02Speaker 8: that I've seen in my lifetime.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Yeah, well I don't disagree with you on that, Johno.
- 18:08Speaker 2: In fact, if you can explain it to me, sometime
- 18:10Speaker 2: I'd be all he is because I would love to
- 18:12Speaker 2: understand what they're actually trying to do. John o'dunham really
- 18:16Speaker 2: appreciate your time. Have a great Christmas. By the way,
- 18:18Speaker 2: thanks for joining me. Well I'll stick around because coming
- 18:21Speaker 2: up after the break, talk about two tiered policing. A
- 18:25Speaker 2: Jewish woman reacts to an offensive slogan and is charged
- 18:29Speaker 2: with harassment. But meanwhile, you've got an Islamic preacher who
- 18:32Speaker 2: thinks Jews are a vile and treacherous people. He's not
- 18:35Speaker 2: even given a warning. All of that in just a moment.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Welcome back. Well, how's this for a double standard? After
- 18:46Speaker 2: months and months of abuse, a Jewish woman finally has
- 18:50Speaker 2: enough and argues back, and she's immediately charged by police.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Have a look at this exchange that was filmed at
- 18:57Speaker 2: kmart in Bankstown over the weekend. A Jewish woman is
- 19:01Speaker 2: shopping when she spots another woman and her daughter wearing
- 19:04Speaker 2: pro Palestinian shirts with the slogan from the River to
- 19:07Speaker 2: the Sea, a slogan that calls for the erasure of
- 19:10Speaker 2: the Jewish homeland.
- 19:17Speaker 7: Are you proud of wearing from the River to the Sea.
- 19:21Speaker 7: You are get fullah every.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Day off Now this woman has been charged with one
- 19:33Speaker 2: count each of publicly threatening violence on grounds of religion,
- 19:37Speaker 2: behaving in an offensive manner, using offensive language, and harassing
- 19:41Speaker 2: with the intent of causing fear of physical harm. Now
- 19:44Speaker 2: I don't condone the woman's actions, but how is it
- 19:48Speaker 2: that she was quickly arrested and spent a night behind
- 19:51Speaker 2: bars for that? When we have Islamic preachers like Wasim
- 19:55Speaker 2: Hadad just up the road giving sermons about killing jew
- 20:00Speaker 2: In describing the Jewish race as quote vile and treacherous people.
- 20:04Speaker 3: He hasn't been arrested or even spoken to.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Joining me is One Nation Chief of Staff James Ashby
- 20:10Speaker 2: and Skyne Is contributor Louise Roberts. Welcome to you both, James.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Double standard here.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Oh bloody Earth, James. This is terrible.
- 20:21Speaker 9: I can't believe for a second that police haven't yet
- 20:24Speaker 9: recognized the fact from people wearing t shirts that say
- 20:28Speaker 9: from the river to the sea. That is a modern
- 20:30Speaker 9: day catch cry which is the equivalent of Hail Hitler.
- 20:33Speaker 9: In my view, today it is calling for the extermination
- 20:36Speaker 9: of the Jewish people from the River Jordan all the
- 20:38Speaker 9: way to the Mediterranean Sea.
- 20:40Speaker 1: And if police haven't recognized that.
- 20:42Speaker 9: By now our parliament has our Parliament has said on
- 20:44Speaker 9: a federal level you're not to wear or say those
- 20:47Speaker 9: slogans on the floor of Parliament because that's precisely what
- 20:50Speaker 9: it means.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Police need to get with the program here.
- 20:53Speaker 9: And I think if I saw, as a Jewish person,
- 20:56Speaker 9: someone coming towards me with that vile slogan on it
- 21:00Speaker 9: in a shopping center, I think I'll probably say something
- 21:03Speaker 9: to them myself. I know personally, when I've seen people
- 21:06Speaker 9: wearing pro supporting of these t shirts, I have walked
- 21:17Speaker 9: away from a kebab shop down south as a result
- 21:20Speaker 9: of that, and I won't go near them.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Now.
- 21:22Speaker 9: I haven't said what this woman has, but you can
- 21:24Speaker 9: understand if she is of Israeli background or Jewish background,
- 21:29Speaker 9: she's probably going to write to be quite angry, especially
- 21:31Speaker 9: after the burning of senagogue's and the spray painting of
- 21:34Speaker 9: parliamentarian's officers and cars that have been set on fire
- 21:39Speaker 9: and certainly sprayed with slogans as well.
- 21:43Speaker 1: The Jewish people have a right to speak out.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I totally agree.
- 21:48Speaker 2: In Louise, I want to ask you, I mean, like
- 21:50Speaker 2: I said, I don't condone the Jewish woman's reaction, it.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Was pretty over the top.
- 21:55Speaker 2: But how do you get on when you go to
- 21:57Speaker 2: the shops and you've got other shop walking around wearing
- 22:01Speaker 2: T shirts calling for your homeland to be wiped off
- 22:04Speaker 2: the map?
- 22:05Speaker 4: Exactly, And none of us will condone the response of
- 22:08Speaker 4: sort of angry the response, and she ended up in
- 22:10Speaker 4: a cell overnight. But Miriam, the woman who bore the
- 22:13Speaker 4: T shirt did so in full knowledge that it would
- 22:16Speaker 4: provoke a reaction. It's offensive to Jewish people and it's
- 22:19Speaker 4: just such a shame that, you know, we're at a
- 22:21Speaker 4: situation where people are shopping in Kmart and they're being
- 22:24Speaker 4: confronted with such vile messaging on a T shirt and
- 22:27Speaker 4: they're responding. We don't agree with the response. You can
- 22:30Speaker 4: kind of understand why she got so angry, and it's
- 22:32Speaker 4: also not representative of the Australian Jewish community at large,
- 22:36Speaker 4: who was so resilient and dignified in the face of
- 22:39Speaker 4: extreme provocation.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, and it wasn't probably a reaction just
- 22:45Speaker 2: to a T shirt. You've got to remember we've had
- 22:47Speaker 2: fourteen months of this non stop. I wanted to ask
- 22:51Speaker 2: you about a backlash in Victoria with news that the
- 22:56Speaker 2: Shrine of Remembrance will allow cocktail parties and other events
- 23:00Speaker 2: to be held on the site. Now, as you could imagine,
- 23:02Speaker 2: veterans are pretty angry, saying it's meant to be a
- 23:04Speaker 2: sacred site, James. The operators of the memorial argue that
- 23:08Speaker 2: cocktail events will bring more people on site and expose
- 23:12Speaker 2: them to the memorial.
- 23:14Speaker 9: Your thoughts, Well, of course a center of this type
- 23:19Speaker 9: is going to come with operational costs, and Victoria have
- 23:22Speaker 9: said that they're only doing this because it ran at
- 23:24Speaker 9: a four million dollar loss over the last twelve months.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Well, I'm sorry.
- 23:29Speaker 9: It is a place of remembrance and some things will
- 23:32Speaker 9: never run out of profit. Here we have a Victorian
- 23:35Speaker 9: government that are very happy to shut down places of
- 23:38Speaker 9: significance when it comes to Aboriginals. Take, for example, the
- 23:41Speaker 9: Grampians not allowed to climb in certain parts of the
- 23:43Speaker 9: Grampians now because it's a place of significance for one
- 23:47Speaker 9: type of people in this country. And yet here they
- 23:50Speaker 9: are saying no, no, no, we don't give a stuff
- 23:52Speaker 9: about the significance to veterans here. Look, if the Victorian
- 23:56Speaker 9: government are so in direstrates finance, which we know they are,
- 24:01Speaker 9: the only thing that should be opened in that state
- 24:04Speaker 9: are new gas fields. Stop with the prohibition on gas
- 24:07Speaker 9: if you're that desperate for cash and you want to
- 24:10Speaker 9: keep the remembrance center open and remember it for what
- 24:13Speaker 9: its true purpose is, over the gas fields.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Bringing the royalties which.
- 24:17Speaker 9: Are probably worth a couple of billion dollars a year
- 24:19Speaker 9: and will pay for such things as the shrine to
- 24:22Speaker 9: remain exactly that, a place of remembrance for those fallen soldiers.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Yeah, Luise, In a time when those things that bind
- 24:33Speaker 2: us together seem increasingly rare, you'd think the Victorian government
- 24:37Speaker 2: could at least keep this place sacred and honor veterans
- 24:41Speaker 2: who have loved our country enough to lay down their
- 24:44Speaker 2: lives for it, without commercializing it.
- 24:46Speaker 4: Absolutely. Look, I've spoken to people in Melbourne about this
- 24:48Speaker 4: today and they're just disgusted that a sacred site, which
- 24:52Speaker 4: is like a church, it'd be like sort of saying
- 24:54Speaker 4: yes to a rave of the.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Vatican, which would never happen.
- 24:56Speaker 4: I mean, there's plenty of places where cocktail parties and
- 24:59Speaker 4: events and wedding can be held elsewhere in Melbourne which
- 25:02Speaker 4: are beautiful and illustrious that we don't need to pollute
- 25:05Speaker 4: a very sacred sight, the purpose of which, as we're
- 25:08Speaker 4: discussing here, is all about remembering our war dead and
- 25:11Speaker 4: respecting our living veterans. And it seems like governments, either
- 25:14Speaker 4: at a state level or federal level, just constantly niggling
- 25:17Speaker 4: away undermining our veterans.
- 25:19Speaker 3: It's just disgusting, Louise.
- 25:23Speaker 2: I sure hope the Pontiff isn't watching our program a
- 25:25Speaker 2: rave at the Vatican. Don't give them ideas, Louise, it's
- 25:28Speaker 2: not good. Before we go some good news, there's reports
- 25:33Speaker 2: today the family that controls the James Bond movie franchise
- 25:36Speaker 2: is refusing to give Amazon the go ahead to make
- 25:39Speaker 2: another film due to serious disagreements over the direction of
- 25:42Speaker 2: the series, including a proposal for a TV spinoff center
- 25:46Speaker 2: on a female seven James. I say good on that family.
- 25:51Speaker 2: We don't need a female James Bond, do we.
- 25:55Speaker 7: No?
- 25:55Speaker 1: Exactly right.
- 25:56Speaker 9: We saw how treacherous Ghostbusters too. When they were with
- 26:00Speaker 9: a full female cast of Ghostbusters, it was a flop
- 26:03Speaker 9: at the cinema box.
- 26:04Speaker 1: This would be a flop.
- 26:06Speaker 9: We've seen Bluey move away from the ABC because they
- 26:09Speaker 9: wanted Bluey to go more woke and they stood on
- 26:13Speaker 9: their morals and I think good on these people that
- 26:16Speaker 9: have got the courage to say no, no, no, we're
- 26:19Speaker 9: not going broke because at the end or we're not
- 26:21Speaker 9: going woke, because at the end of the day, we
- 26:23Speaker 9: will go broke.
- 26:24Speaker 1: And that franchise has lasted decades.
- 26:26Speaker 9: I don't want to see it destroyed just for the
- 26:28Speaker 9: sake of just going down the path of a Double
- 26:31Speaker 9: O seven female Bond.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Well, louis a violent womanizing James Bond. Does he still
- 26:38Speaker 2: have a place in our modern world or our modern
- 26:41Speaker 2: sensibility is just too sensitive for James Bond these days.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Well, the reason the Bond franchise has prevailed is because
- 26:48Speaker 4: he is an antihero. His flaws are his charisma. Men
- 26:52Speaker 4: want to be with him or sorry, women want to
- 26:54Speaker 4: be with him and make men do as well. But
- 26:56Speaker 4: he's just this character that we all love and we
- 26:59Speaker 4: know he's a fantasy figure as well, that he's not
- 27:02Speaker 4: being held up with some kind of role model sort
- 27:04Speaker 4: of you know, Victorian father of three. He's got a
- 27:06Speaker 4: bit law to his wife, he's got charisma, he's got appeal,
- 27:09Speaker 4: and well done to Barbara Broccoli for really maintaining a
- 27:13Speaker 4: vice absolutely over Double seven. It's just fabulous.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Absolutely Louise, James and Louise appreciate you being with me.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Thanks very much. That's all I've got time for tonight.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I'll be back tomorrow night, but stick around. Up now
- 27:27Speaker 2: is the Sky News documentary Cyclone Tracy fifty years on
- 27:31Speaker 2: good Night
