Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hunts and deals swung line and then they are to
- 0:02Speaker 1: left field and deep that.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Ball is high, that is far, that has gone. It's
- 0:08Speaker 2: a grand slam.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Anthony Volpe put a charge in one, a grand slam
- 0:20Speaker 1: to left field, and the Yankees now to take up
- 0:23Speaker 1: five to lead Man oh Man.
- 0:26Speaker 3: So many intrinsic connections and synchronicities and feelings tonight as
- 0:34Speaker 3: the Yankees avoid elimination down three to zero, led by
- 0:39Speaker 3: the hometown kid. I guess you call him home down
- 0:42Speaker 3: Euro tonight, Anthony VOPEI. Yes, Anthony Vopei, the shortstop who
- 0:48Speaker 3: is in the shadow very much so of number two. Well,
- 0:53Speaker 3: he had a breakout moment tonight in the World Series,
- 0:56Speaker 3: as you just heard from John Sterling. I'm sure you
- 1:00Speaker 3: watch the game, but I have a lot of personal
- 1:04Speaker 3: thoughts about this because here we are watching in the
- 1:09Speaker 3: post game Anthony Volpi and Derek Jeter chop it up
- 1:15Speaker 3: about that grand Slam and the fact that, yes, Volpi
- 1:18Speaker 3: was in the parade. And then you add a Rod
- 1:21Speaker 3: who also, of course was on the fifteen that nineteen
- 1:24Speaker 3: fifteen years ago. Chills. But the picture of the shortstop legend,
- 1:32Speaker 3: Derek Jeter and the shortstop of now, Anthony Volpi should
- 1:36Speaker 3: be shared everywhere and we'll live on forever. As this
- 1:41Speaker 3: was a generational moment on Fox Sports's MLB World Series coverage,
- 1:48Speaker 3: kicked off by Kevin Burkhart.
- 1:49Speaker 4: I'm gonna let you start right here with a guy
- 1:52Speaker 4: that that you know very well, Derek Jeter, who was
- 1:54Speaker 4: watching you to join your plate tonight.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Go there. First of all, before I asked you a question, man,
- 1:58Speaker 2: how does it feel a World Series Grand Slam? Man
- 2:02Speaker 2: had look at this?
- 2:03Speaker 5: No, the wins hit me, nothing else was hit me.
- 2:07Speaker 5: Yet I like it.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I like it.
- 2:08Speaker 2: So the question I have for you, it seemed like, look,
- 2:11Speaker 2: we all know we've been talking about this before sometimes
- 2:14Speaker 2: team team wide, you got hot streaks?
- 2:17Speaker 3: Do you have cold streaks?
- 2:18Speaker 2: It seems like it goes throughout the whole life. After
- 2:21Speaker 2: you hit your grand Slam, it looked like everyone exhaled
- 2:24Speaker 2: in that dugout and they were much better at that.
- 2:26Speaker 2: What was the feeling like after you came and you
- 2:28Speaker 2: guys finally had a lead.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Yeah, that was great. I mean Louis Louis.
- 2:33Speaker 5: Cut us in it the whole game, and then there's
- 2:35Speaker 5: so many great at bats saloon up the bases Obviously
- 2:38Speaker 5: the guys have really good stuff, But I don't know.
- 2:41Speaker 5: We just have so much trust in each other that it.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Could be me.
- 2:44Speaker 5: It could be it could have been Risy at that before,
- 2:46Speaker 5: It could be in Wells behind me. But I think
- 2:49Speaker 5: just having that confidence in everyone was the biggest thing.
- 2:51Speaker 5: They got it with you, man, because you're running out
- 2:53Speaker 5: out's good job.
- 2:54Speaker 6: It went an amazing, amazing day for the hometown kid.
- 2:58Speaker 6: My producers get mad at Bass more than one. But
- 3:00Speaker 6: IM gonna ask you a three part question on this
- 3:01Speaker 6: Grand Slam. What was your approach? Did you know it
- 3:04Speaker 6: was gone? And how did it feel when you saw
- 3:06Speaker 6: it go out? And hear the three So if you
- 3:07Speaker 6: don't forget.
- 3:09Speaker 5: Approach ther same. I'm just trying to get on time
- 3:11Speaker 5: for heat and beasy. That's my those are my keys
- 3:16Speaker 5: to keep it simple, to see the ball, be easy,
- 3:18Speaker 5: and be on time for the heater. So I mean
- 3:23Speaker 5: you never got it? Did you know you got it?
- 3:26Speaker 3: No?
- 3:26Speaker 5: I didn't know. I was hustling. I didn't know I
- 3:28Speaker 5: got it, but and then I blocked out right when.
- 3:32Speaker 3: It went out.
- 3:35Speaker 7: Anthony, congratulations on the wind tonight. Listen, you got caught
- 3:38Speaker 7: off in in the base run with the ball he
- 3:41Speaker 7: to center field. But let me tell you what you
- 3:42Speaker 7: did tonight that really made to be came to be
- 3:47Speaker 7: a fan of yours. I said, young player, you never
- 3:51Speaker 7: give up and never let.
- 3:52Speaker 3: That get in you.
- 3:53Speaker 7: Hey, you went out there and continue competing. You came
- 3:56Speaker 7: and hit a home bro, you came in catch some
- 3:59Speaker 7: you picked some ball over there, Betty tough ha. I mean,
- 4:04Speaker 7: what would you mind say after you made that mistayed
- 4:07Speaker 7: running the base and then going back up before my
- 4:09Speaker 7: the highest whatever you feel like you did, thank you.
- 4:11Speaker 3: I appreciate it.
- 4:13Speaker 5: No knew is gonna pick me up?
- 4:15Speaker 2: Obviously, I saw me.
- 4:16Speaker 3: I gotta be better.
- 4:17Speaker 5: I mean, you practice those plays and that's easy one
- 4:20Speaker 5: out read it.
- 4:22Speaker 3: But I was confident. Are you picking me off?
- 4:24Speaker 5: And just him doing that knowing that he's got my
- 4:28Speaker 5: back and I'm gonna have his. I mean that's all
- 4:30Speaker 5: you can.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Ask for a couple of things. First of all, this
- 4:33Speaker 4: guy said he's gonna swing at the first pitch, called
- 4:35Speaker 4: that one and the result, So you guys are thinking
- 4:38Speaker 4: along the same way. Second, were the first Yankee to
- 4:40Speaker 4: scored three runs in a World Series games since he
- 4:42Speaker 4: did it. Third, this is fun. We should have joined
- 4:45Speaker 4: the broadcast. You know the picture, but you at the
- 4:47Speaker 4: parade with the family. Here you go, the picture of
- 4:49Speaker 4: the monitor down to your left. For you to be
- 4:52Speaker 4: there and watch these guys win it and be at
- 4:55Speaker 4: the parade, and then for you to be out here
- 4:57Speaker 4: tonight do what you doing for your family to watch.
- 4:59Speaker 2: What does that mean you?
- 5:02Speaker 5: Yeah, it means the world. I mean the Yankees and
- 5:05Speaker 5: the organization and growing up watching these guys had such
- 5:09Speaker 5: a big impact on my life, on my relationships, my
- 5:12Speaker 5: relationships with my parents, with my sister, everyone, and I
- 5:15Speaker 5: mean the memories watching them we still talk about. I
- 5:17Speaker 5: think that's what makes the Yankees Yankees, and the city
- 5:21Speaker 5: and these fans and everything about it. I mean, there's
- 5:24Speaker 5: nothing like that.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Well one, you should have been in school instead of
- 5:27Speaker 2: being at that range. Right so right now, just think
- 5:31Speaker 2: about it. Man, You're a few wins away.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Keep it going.
- 5:33Speaker 2: You got a lot of kids now in the New York,
- 5:35Speaker 2: New Jersey area that want to grow up and BEU.
- 5:37Speaker 2: So congratulations man, Thank you.
- 5:39Speaker 3: The Humble reaction to being interviewed by his idol Derek Jeter,
- 5:46Speaker 3: the crowd cheering voltey vote b H after the crowd
- 5:53Speaker 3: cheering vote b vote by after his even sliding stop
- 5:57Speaker 3: it Short, in which he was a dirty jersey and
- 6:01Speaker 3: that that's how hard he played tonight is Yankees pinstriped,
- 6:05Speaker 3: muddied up in a rainy night in the Bronx. But
- 6:10Speaker 3: Derek Jeter saying, there are a lot of kids watching
- 6:13Speaker 3: VOLTI I don't know if I should feel old or
- 6:17Speaker 3: feel nostalgic because how many of us kids were watching
- 6:21Speaker 3: Derek Jeter as kids growing up wanting to be like
- 6:26Speaker 3: that at short at the plate. And there have been
- 6:32Speaker 3: frustrations with Volpi much. There were you know, when the
- 6:36Speaker 3: jeer came up in ninety six and let you know,
- 6:39Speaker 3: tailor a nine to five. But this was the diamond
- 6:48Speaker 3: in the rough moment. You are down three to zero
- 6:52Speaker 3: to a Dodger team that shut you down, and then
- 6:55Speaker 3: you hit this grand slam that is so cool, Anthony
- 7:00Speaker 3: won't be I'm so happy for you, and I think
- 7:03Speaker 3: this whole city's proud of you. Man. This is cool.
- 7:07Speaker 3: And then to watch that generational moment between Derek and Volpi.
- 7:14Speaker 3: It's not full circle yet because the Yanks haven't won
- 7:17Speaker 3: it yet, but it does feel like a a moment
- 7:25Speaker 3: a generational moment, and if they do the inevitable, I'm
- 7:31Speaker 3: just gonna say, right now, push it to Friday. You
- 7:34Speaker 3: can't get greedy and say push it to game seven
- 7:39Speaker 3: and win. You just gotta take it one game at
- 7:41Speaker 3: a time. Of course, we all like to push the
- 7:45Speaker 3: game seven and win game seven, but one game at
- 7:47Speaker 3: a time. And if they have to go back to LA,
- 7:50Speaker 3: I think the Yanks have a little more momentum than
- 7:53Speaker 3: they did when they first got there for games one
- 7:56Speaker 3: and two. Baseball and even the World's heies like a series, right,
- 8:01Speaker 3: So you wanted the anksle to split, Okay, they didn't
- 8:04Speaker 3: do it. You wanted the Anks somehow to win two
- 8:08Speaker 3: out of three or sweep these three games. Well it
- 8:14Speaker 3: could be two out of three. But my main message
- 8:17Speaker 3: tonight is push it to Friday. And by the way,
- 8:22Speaker 3: when I saw that interview with Volpi and Jeter, it
- 8:25Speaker 3: did stir up some memories because there was a moment
- 8:29Speaker 3: in spring training when Dad and I were behind the
- 8:33Speaker 3: plate a few rows back and Derek was doing his
- 8:38Speaker 3: warm ups on the on deck circle and he literally
- 8:42Speaker 3: turned to my dad and I didn't remember me from
- 8:43Speaker 3: over the years. Obviously we know we met each other
- 8:46Speaker 3: and see each other over the years, and he goes, oh,
- 8:49Speaker 3: you're playing hooky. Huh. So when he told Volpi he
- 8:52Speaker 3: should have stayed in school, that felt like a moment
- 8:55Speaker 3: of Jeter not changing from seventeen eighteen years ago to now.
- 9:04Speaker 3: And I just loved it. I love the back and forth.
- 9:08Speaker 3: I wanted to play that conversation here on one leg
- 9:10Speaker 3: up with Alex Garrett, and I wanted to furthermore say
- 9:14Speaker 3: push it to Friday. That's what the Steve has to do.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Push it to Friday. I think Roberts will be less
- 9:25Speaker 3: relaxed tomorrow or later today, I guess, But I think
- 9:31Speaker 3: the Yanks have woken up a little bit. So this
- 9:35Speaker 3: matchup with everybody clicking in Game four could make for
- 9:41Speaker 3: even more fireworks in Game five for the repby X community.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Where will be tomorrow night, most likely home, but you
- 9:52Speaker 3: know we'll be cheering on And it was an honor
- 9:56Speaker 3: to once again be at the World Series, to see
- 9:58Speaker 3: this world series up close at Yankee, same with Gabby
- 10:04Speaker 3: and though Game three was tough, just to be in
- 10:07Speaker 3: that moment, to be in Dodgers Yankees, Yankees, Dodgers World Series,
- 10:11Speaker 3: something that has happened nineteen eighty one, by the way,
- 10:15Speaker 3: was pretty freaking special, and we're thankful, and I'm certainly
- 10:20Speaker 3: thankful that that gift mister Simmoner gave my dad and
- 10:24Speaker 3: I next year's gonna be twenty five years continues to
- 10:30Speaker 3: this day very special. And to people like Rob Golmanz
- 10:36Speaker 3: who continue it, and Haley and Renne Gron and Yari
- 10:41Speaker 3: and the staff at the Pepsi Lounge, I mean, all
- 10:44Speaker 3: you guys very special. To my dad, as you guys know,
- 10:52Speaker 3: and now Gabby and I and to myself forever. I mean,
- 10:55Speaker 3: this has been a lifelong part of my journey. Talking
- 10:59Speaker 3: about a'll be talking about relationships and friendships. I mean,
- 11:02Speaker 3: the Yankees have been a circular and I guess more
- 11:07Speaker 3: integral part of my childhood and my era and I
- 11:17Speaker 3: made friends bonding over the Yankees over many years. So
- 11:21Speaker 3: I understand what he's saying, and I believe the synchronosity
- 11:26Speaker 3: with him is that not only did I meet him
- 11:29Speaker 3: at the Today Show, but the Yanks had won the
- 11:33Speaker 3: World Series after I turned nine in two thousand, because
- 11:39Speaker 3: I met George Immer was eight years old, which was
- 11:42Speaker 3: September August September. Then I turned nine in October of
- 11:48Speaker 3: that year, October twentieth, and so there I was, at
- 11:51Speaker 3: nine years old at the parade at City Hall Park.
- 11:56Speaker 3: So the connection and the synchronousity with Anthony Wopie feels
- 12:01Speaker 3: very real. As I talk about this, and then you
- 12:06Speaker 3: talk about one more thing. A random World Series Cup
- 12:13Speaker 3: was sitting next to Gaby and I yesterday, and I
- 12:14Speaker 3: have to say this and all my dad's cups collection
- 12:19Speaker 3: and love of cups, and you know him carrying that
- 12:23Speaker 3: cup out of Yankee same I got a picture of that.
- 12:26Speaker 3: I did feel like he was watching some of that
- 12:27Speaker 3: game with us last night in the form of a cup.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Call me crazy, called me weird, But I do believe
- 12:35Speaker 3: our loved ones who have gone before us appear again
- 12:40Speaker 3: in signs. And that sign of the Yankee Dodger World
- 12:44Speaker 3: Series Cup made me think my dad was watching with
- 12:52Speaker 3: us last night or Monday night. So it's going to
- 13:01Speaker 3: be fun tonight. Garrett Cole, Jack Flaherty. Big matchup on
- 13:08Speaker 3: Friday night, great pitching matchup Friday night? Will it live
- 13:12Speaker 3: up to another potential tonight? Will the Yanks offense stay alive?
- 13:16Speaker 3: And have they awoken? Did this Grand Slam? Did that
- 13:21Speaker 3: wells double. I know it was a double and VOPEI
- 13:24Speaker 3: didn't score on that, but you know what, at the
- 13:26Speaker 3: end of the day, that kickstarted something. So did that double?
- 13:32Speaker 3: Did that anywhere? They even got on the board against
- 13:34Speaker 3: the Dodgers early? Wake them up because they scored double
- 13:42Speaker 3: digits tonight and they had a Yankee esque game. And
- 13:50Speaker 3: for me, it's cool to talk about this not only
- 13:52Speaker 3: on Spreaker, but on Spotify and on iHeartRadio. It's not
- 13:57Speaker 3: just online radio. We are blacksting out to all your outlets. Spotify,
- 14:04Speaker 3: I'm a podcast, iHeartRadio, so we're I was having the
- 14:09Speaker 3: Sports Hour on one localized internet radio, which was amazing
- 14:13Speaker 3: and got my start. But here we are, fifteen years later,
- 14:18Speaker 3: blasting these thoughts out and these moments out to you
- 14:22Speaker 3: on one leg up network wherever you may hear us.
- 14:27Speaker 3: And that is just first I say us, because it's
- 14:29Speaker 3: not just me. It's a team. It's Gabby, my executive
- 14:32Speaker 3: producer of Life. It's my family supporting this journey, is
- 14:35Speaker 3: my friends, it's all of us. It's Lucas Ferrara shooting
- 14:39Speaker 3: shouting out the show every week on a nine seventy
- 14:43Speaker 3: The Answer Sunday nights at seven and Christina Cats follow
- 14:47Speaker 3: up at nine. It's all of us together giving this
- 14:54Speaker 3: show one leg up on whatever talk we made I
- 15:00Speaker 3: may just to talk about so join us. As the
- 15:05Speaker 3: funds just getting started. I do believe there could be
- 15:10Speaker 3: a brand new start to this series. We gotta get
- 15:15Speaker 3: there first. We gotta get to Friday and see what happens.
- 15:18Speaker 3: And that's what Yanks gotta do tonight and real quick.
- 15:22Speaker 3: How cool was it that John Sterling got to call
- 15:25Speaker 3: that grand slam that he's in the booth for this
- 15:28Speaker 3: World Series? And how fairytale would a comeback like this
- 15:31Speaker 3: be for him to say those words he said before fall.
- 15:35Speaker 7: Game over World Series over.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Yankee's win done, Yankee's win.
- 15:44Speaker 3: As I heard tonight, step one was done tonight, winning
- 15:47Speaker 3: and staving off elimination. First time that's been done since
- 15:51Speaker 3: nineteen seventy. Now next of it to go where no
- 15:55Speaker 3: team down three to zero in the World Series has
- 15:58Speaker 3: gone before forcing a game six. Push it to Friday, Yankees,
- 16:04Speaker 3: and I'll give you my reaction on the One Leg
- 16:06Speaker 3: Up Network. As the series continues to unfold. Speaking of unfolding,
- 16:13Speaker 3: your life story may be continuing to unfold, whether it's
