- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, Discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch, to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast. It comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:36Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other. The backyard, to dig
- 0:39Speaker 1: into the dirt, our mission to uncover the truth, to
- 0:42Speaker 1: confront the myth, to reclaim the story. On this bonus episode,
- 0:46Speaker 1: we're talking about our part two story on led Zeppelin
- 0:49Speaker 1: that just hit your feed. We're rewinding back to our
- 0:51Speaker 1: Peter Tosh episodes, previewing next week's story on Pedagram, and
- 0:55Speaker 1: we get into your voicemails, text, dms, and as always,
- 0:58Speaker 1: a whole lot of rosie. This is the podcast for
- 1:01Speaker 1: the musically obsessed, the outsiders, the independent thinkers who know
- 1:03Speaker 1: that the best history is the history that gets buried.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Disgraceland is where I tell the stories they didn't want told,
- 1:09Speaker 1: the kind you'll end up telling someone else. All right, Discos,
- 1:13Speaker 1: let's get into it. I often pose this question and
- 1:31Speaker 1: statement to disgrace slaand listeners. It's this. It's if you
- 1:34Speaker 1: feel like today's music culture doesn't reflect what you care about,
- 1:37Speaker 1: You're not alone. You belong with the discos.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:40Speaker 1: That's not just marketing spin. It's sincerely how I feel,
- 1:45Speaker 1: and I know it's how a lot of you, most
- 1:47Speaker 1: of you guys feel as well. When I talk about
- 1:50Speaker 1: modern music culture, I'm talking about the artists populating the
- 1:53Speaker 1: Billboard charts and Spotify new release playlists, that sort of thing.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Music history, the the legends are just more interesting to me.
- 2:03Speaker 1: And it's not that I don't love some modern bands.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I do Geese turnstyle. I've talked about these guys before
- 2:09Speaker 1: others have you even had some of them on the show.
- 2:12Speaker 1: It's just that, well, you know what I mean. And
- 2:15Speaker 1: I don't want to belabor the point here. I only
- 2:16Speaker 1: want to set the stage for this conversation that I
- 2:19Speaker 1: want to have because in the last few days a
- 2:22Speaker 1: lot has been made of Jay Z's choice of artists
- 2:26Speaker 1: to perform at this season's Super Bowl halftime show. If
- 2:31Speaker 1: you're unaware, jay Z, whose company Rock Nation has a
- 2:35Speaker 1: contract with the NFL to program the event, chose bad Bunny. Okay, Now,
- 2:43Speaker 1: it's hard for me to find anyone who is excited
- 2:45Speaker 1: about this choice, like genuinely excited, like going like yes,
- 2:50Speaker 1: fucking he did it. Choe's Bad Bunny. Okay, Now I
- 2:58Speaker 1: say it's hard for me to find anyone who's excited.
- 3:00Speaker 1: That's weird because Bad Bunny is literally one of, if
- 3:03Speaker 1: not the biggest artists on the planet. Like you look quantifiably,
- 3:07Speaker 1: It's just true. It's a fact. We're talking like Taylor
- 3:11Speaker 1: Swift level huge. Now, I'm probably not seeing the excitement
- 3:16Speaker 1: because my feeds are calibrated to show me what I'm
- 3:20Speaker 1: interested in, and well, I'm just not interested in Bad
- 3:23Speaker 1: Bunny or his music, but a lot of people are.
- 3:28Speaker 1: The question, however, is are those people NFL fans? Bad
- 3:35Speaker 1: Bunny is one of the most streamed artists on the planet.
- 3:38Speaker 1: He sells out stadiums, He's got three Grammys, sells too
- 3:43Speaker 1: many records to count charts hits. But do you hear
- 3:49Speaker 1: Bad Bunny when you walk through the stadium at Orchard
- 3:52Speaker 1: Park and Buffalo on Sunday as while Bill's Mafia's tailgating
- 3:57Speaker 1: All you yenzers out there, are you bumping Bad Bunn?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Anyway out of the stadium after watching Aaron Iahuasca Rogers
- 4:04Speaker 1: on Sunday afternoon. No, you guys have Stix's renegade stuck
- 4:08Speaker 1: in your head. Just like Bills fans have the Killers,
- 4:11Speaker 1: mister Brightside, Pats fans have the outfields. Josie is on
- 4:15Speaker 1: on the gate. You know what I'm saying. That's football, man,
- 4:19Speaker 1: that's professional football. Anyways, the live fan experience is about
- 4:23Speaker 1: classic rock and sure some hip hop, but Man eminem
- 4:29Speaker 1: Doctor dre Outcast, even jay Z, they might as well
- 4:35Speaker 1: be classic rock. They scratched the same itch for Generation
- 4:39Speaker 1: X and elder millennials. Bad money is about the future, okay,
- 4:46Speaker 1: which is fine. The NFL is internationally minded, as a
- 4:50Speaker 1: major corporation in America can be. There's only so many
- 4:55Speaker 1: football fans in the United States. This is why there
- 4:58Speaker 1: are now tons of international games. The league is trying
- 5:01Speaker 1: to expand, but in my view, they're doing it in
- 5:06Speaker 1: a really lame way. They're sacrificing the needs of their
- 5:10Speaker 1: current fans for what they perceive are the desires of
- 5:14Speaker 1: their future fans. I can't stand it when brands do this.
- 5:18Speaker 1: It drives me crazy, and I don't really fully know
- 5:22Speaker 1: how to articulate it, but you kind of know it
- 5:23Speaker 1: when you feel it. Anyways, the next super Bowl, this
- 5:26Speaker 1: is the kind of maddening part here. The next super
- 5:29Speaker 1: Bowl is in San Francisco. Now, I'm not saying that
- 5:31Speaker 1: the NFL should have SHOs locals like Dead in Company
- 5:35Speaker 1: or Journey, who I'll admit, though more interesting to me
- 5:39Speaker 1: than Bad Money, they aren't. Those bands aren't as relevant
- 5:42Speaker 1: on the mainstream stage as Bad Money is. They're from
- 5:47Speaker 1: San Francisco, sure, and it would be great for home
- 5:49Speaker 1: hometown team to play in San Francisco. What's it called
- 5:54Speaker 1: Levi Stadium for the super Bowl this year instead of
- 5:57Speaker 1: Bad Bunny. But those guys just aren't you know, how
- 5:58Speaker 1: do you? If you put Journey there instead of Bad Money,
- 6:01Speaker 1: then you're really just then you're going too far in
- 6:03Speaker 1: the other direction. Then you're really catering to the old people,
- 6:07Speaker 1: and that's not a good thing. Dead Dead same goes
- 6:10Speaker 1: for the Dead Dead and Company.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Excuse me, however, however, dude, Metallica, fucking Metallica, the choice
- 6:20Speaker 3: was right there.
- 6:22Speaker 1: It was perfect. It's a chip shot from fifteen yards out.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Jay Z Metallica is from San Francisco and Metallica is
- 6:31Speaker 1: still completely relevant. They're still not just selling out stadiums,
- 6:36Speaker 1: they're selling out stadium tours, okay, entire tours years in advance.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Metallica also has a huge international audience, and I would argue,
- 6:48Speaker 1: and I think quite successfully, that Metallica has way more
- 6:51Speaker 1: appeal with NFL fans than Bad Money. But does Metallica
- 6:56Speaker 1: have that appeal with future NFL fans? And that I
- 6:59Speaker 1: do not know. Maybe they don't, maybe they do, I
- 7:02Speaker 1: don't know. Is Bad Bunny the worst choice the NFL
- 7:06Speaker 1: could have made? No? And this is where things get
- 7:08Speaker 1: really interesting because this sort of like super Bowl halftime show,
- 7:13Speaker 1: like the unveiling of the artist and all that. Everything's
- 7:16Speaker 1: eventized these days for social media. But I'm old enough
- 7:20Speaker 1: to remember a time when this is the halftime show
- 7:23Speaker 1: wasn't that big of a deal. You never didn't even
- 7:25Speaker 1: think about it. It was small potatoes compared to the game. Now,
- 7:29Speaker 1: for like my wife, it's the whole thing, you know
- 7:32Speaker 1: what I mean. You ask her what her favorite super
- 7:34Speaker 1: Bowl was the last ten years, and she's going to
- 7:36Speaker 1: talk about the one with the Maroon five dude and
- 7:38Speaker 1: his shirt off. And I don't blame her. You know,
- 7:42Speaker 1: dude was looking good that day. Anyhow, I'm wildly off track.
- 7:47Speaker 1: If you go back, this is where it gets interesting.
- 7:49Speaker 1: If you go back in the not so distant future
- 7:51Speaker 1: and you start to see how the halftime show is programmed.
- 7:54Speaker 1: It is fucking awesome and it's hysterical, and you won't
- 7:59Speaker 1: believe some of the things that the NFL was trying
- 8:01Speaker 1: to pass off as entertainment. I don't know. I can't
- 8:05Speaker 1: get by Metaca, all right, I got to move on.
- 8:07Speaker 1: In the exclusive section of this after party, Zeth and
- 8:10Speaker 1: I are going to be recommending to you guys some
- 8:12Speaker 1: of the weirdest and wildest Super Bowl halftime performances, some
- 8:16Speaker 1: that are going to make you feel better about the
- 8:18Speaker 1: season's bad bunny choice even, but most are going to
- 8:22Speaker 1: make you feel like you normally do, which is something
- 8:26Speaker 1: along the lines of, Man, I didn't realize how good
- 8:28Speaker 1: we had it back then. I think about that a lot.
- 8:31Speaker 1: All I gotta say is, Prince, that's it, all right,
- 8:34Speaker 1: you got to be a disgrace sand all Access member
- 8:35Speaker 1: to hear that. Though it's five bucks a month if
- 8:37Speaker 1: you don't know, you get exclusive content like this, plus
- 8:40Speaker 1: new mini episodes behind the scenes content and add free listening.

- 8:46Speaker 1: or Apple Podcasts. All right, guys, all this super Bowl
- 8:49Speaker 1: talk and it's barely October. Spookie season has arrived and
- 8:53Speaker 1: we've kicked it off with a bang this week and
- 8:55Speaker 1: our part two led Zeppelin episode about the haunted Headley
- 8:59Speaker 1: Grange where Jimmy Page and the Boys recorded many of
- 9:02Speaker 1: their biggest well I don't want to say hits songs,
- 9:05Speaker 1: I should say, And we paired that episode with a
- 9:08Speaker 1: mini episode on what or shall I say? Who was
- 9:13Speaker 1: haunting the home of Jimmy Page. Hint it was not
- 9:17Speaker 1: Alistair Crowley. Mini episodes are available for All Access members
- 9:20Speaker 1: as well. Like I just mentioned, coming up in the
- 9:23Speaker 1: rewind slot this week though, which is next in your feed.
- 9:27Speaker 1: We've got our episodes our two part story on Peter
- 9:30Speaker 1: Tosh and it's a particularly horrifying event that hopefully you
- 9:35Speaker 1: never experience. Hopefully I never experienced as well. And if
- 9:39Speaker 1: you're a you know, just a you know, help a
- 9:41Speaker 1: out our sponsors here, if you're a simply safe member,
- 9:43Speaker 1: you'll never experience this horror, horrific event that we detail
- 9:46Speaker 1: in the Peter Tosh episode. You're gonna have to listen
- 9:49Speaker 1: to find out what I'm talking about. Anyhow, coming up
- 9:51Speaker 1: next week in your feed our episode on metal band Pentagram. Now,
- 9:55Speaker 1: what's more Halloween than an episode on a band named Pentagram?
- 9:59Speaker 1: The answer is none, none, more metal. Okay, when you're
- 10:01Speaker 1: listening to this episode on Pentagram and you're hearing the
- 10:04Speaker 1: story from the point of view of Teddy Pentagram, the
- 10:07Speaker 1: cool older dude at the record store, be thinking about
- 10:10Speaker 1: who your musical shirpo was. Okay, who turned you on
- 10:14Speaker 1: to great music when you were a kid. Was it
- 10:17Speaker 1: an older sibling, Was it someone at a record store.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Was it your cousin who smoked you up on Thanksgiving?
- 10:22Speaker 1: Who turned you on to great music as a little
- 10:25Speaker 1: teenage punk who was desperate to find the next graate?
- 10:28Speaker 1: But whatever it was, who was that person? We want
- 10:31Speaker 1: to know? Shout them out, Give them some love, give
- 10:32Speaker 1: them some appreciation, show them some gratitude. Six one seven
- 10:36Speaker 1: nine oh six six sixty three eight. Leave us a voicemail,
- 10:38Speaker 1: send us a text with your answers, and you might
- 10:40Speaker 1: hear yourself and your musical Sherpah mentioned on the next
- 10:44Speaker 1: after party. I'm going to take a quick break. I'll
- 10:46Speaker 1: be back in a flash with your answers to last
- 10:48Speaker 1: week's question of the Week and more. Michael Murphy over
- 11:13Speaker 1: on Patreon chimed in on our led Zeppelin Part two episode, saying,
- 11:17Speaker 1: great job on this episode, especially the music and FX.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Now please please do an episode or preferably two on Genesis. Michael,
- 11:24Speaker 1: thank you for that. All props due to Matt Boden
- 11:28Speaker 1: to put together the mix and the music for that
- 11:31Speaker 1: led Zeppe and Part two episode. We're very pleased with
- 11:34Speaker 1: Matt's work and he's going to hear your happiness to Michael.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Thanks on Genesis, Dude, I listen to Misunderstanding by Genesis
- 11:41Speaker 1: now every single day. I don't know what's up with
- 11:43Speaker 1: that song, but it has owned me for the last
- 11:46Speaker 1: few weeks. I have basically no knowledge of Genesis at all.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Is it Genesis? Is it Peter Gabriel, is it Phil Collins?
- 11:55Speaker 1: Is it Mike and the mechanics? What the hell was
- 11:58Speaker 1: even happening? There was backwards mohawks. I don't understand. As
- 12:03Speaker 1: you hear in this week's led Zeppelin episode, Genesis makes
- 12:06Speaker 1: an appearance. I think it's high time I dive into this,
- 12:08Speaker 1: I will let you know, Michael that in the exclusive
- 12:10Speaker 1: section of this here after party, you will hear us
- 12:13Speaker 1: talking a little bit about Phil Collins. I'm I'm kind
- 12:16Speaker 1: of weirdly super intrigued by Phil Collins lately, and I
- 12:20Speaker 1: don't know why I got to learn more. So yes,
- 12:23Speaker 1: maybe a Genesis episode. Guys, if you want to be
- 12:26Speaker 1: like Michael, you want to get at me super direct,
- 12:28Speaker 1: super quick, jump into Patreon chat with your fellow music obsessives.
- 12:32Speaker 1: That's where I'm at every single day pretty much. Join
- 12:34Speaker 1: me over there at Patreon, all right, right now though,
- 12:37Speaker 1: I'm in the phone with its one across the hall,
- 12:39Speaker 1: and I'm hanging on the telephone, and we talked about
- 12:41Speaker 1: the rumors surrounding TikTok wrapper David last week, and in
- 12:46Speaker 1: light of our haunted Headley Grange led Zeppelin story, we
- 12:50Speaker 1: asked you guys to hit us up with your ghost
- 12:51Speaker 1: stories in Germ. Here in the six one nine, hit
- 12:55Speaker 1: us up on both issues.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Hey, Jake, this is a GERM and hey brother, first
- 13:02Speaker 2: of all, I'm listening to this and I heard more
- 13:04Speaker 2: about that David character, and I've heard on and I'll
- 13:11Speaker 2: call him out on KFI. That's where I usually get
- 13:14Speaker 2: my news because it's fairly legitimate. Most of the time,
- 13:20Speaker 2: it's still biased. But nonetheless, I thought that was brilliant
- 13:23Speaker 2: because he gave me more information and less words, and
- 13:28Speaker 2: then it talked about spooky shit for Halloween time. We
- 13:37Speaker 2: would have to have a freaking sit down conversation. I
- 13:40Speaker 2: got more spooky stories than a human should have. I've
- 13:46Speaker 2: done house cleansings. Our house is haunted. We just shot
- 13:52Speaker 2: a video from one of my bands called morning Star,
- 13:55Speaker 2: where it is Exorcist themed and we chose my because
- 14:00Speaker 2: it's haunted. None less. Kick up the good work, brother
- 14:04Speaker 2: and enjoying the podcast. I guess that's about it, man,
- 14:08Speaker 2: I gotta get back to Owen Lawns. Fuck you're son Durham.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Thanks for the call. We got a little mini update
- 14:15Speaker 1: on David this week. Turns out that the body and
- 14:19Speaker 1: the back of the car that was allegedly registered in
- 14:25Speaker 1: David's name, the body of that young woman was apparently
- 14:30Speaker 1: had been dead. The I don't know how do you
- 14:33Speaker 1: say this. The person who they found dead in the
- 14:35Speaker 1: back of that car had been dead for weeks before
- 14:39Speaker 1: the body was put into the car. That's what investigators said.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I believe yesterday they broke that news. So we're learning
- 14:46Speaker 1: more slowly, and I find it really interesting that David
- 14:51Speaker 1: hasn't been charged. Okay, I don't know what that means.
- 14:56Speaker 1: It's got to mean something, though, or maybe it means nothing.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Reading Tea leaves, I have a feeling we'll know more
- 15:03Speaker 1: about the next time we talk next week. Jeram, you
- 15:05Speaker 1: sound totally unfazed from living in a haunted house. Our
- 15:08Speaker 1: house in Massachusetts, an old colonial from seventeen sixty three,
- 15:13Speaker 1: was so haunted that we sold it. I'm too scared
- 15:15Speaker 1: to even really talk about it, and uh maybe I will,
- 15:18Speaker 1: though as October progresses. I've I've never really talked about
- 15:21Speaker 1: it publicly. Talked a little bit about it once on Instagram.
- 15:25Speaker 1: That was more my wife kind of pushing the issue.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Good luck out there on the mowerre GERM appreciate you,
- 15:29Speaker 1: thanks for calling him. Looking forward to seeing the new
- 15:32Speaker 1: Morning Star video. All right, let's hear from Dave in
- 15:35Speaker 1: the eight to oh one in Salt Lake City.
- 15:37Speaker 4: Hey, Ja, Dave from Salt Lake City calling. So, I
- 15:42Speaker 4: was at a friend's house and spiritual guy, this friend
- 15:47Speaker 4: of my one night, I left his house on my
- 15:49Speaker 4: home and Right when I walked into my place, I
- 15:53Speaker 4: felt this really evil friends, and I was just chilled.
- 15:58Speaker 4: I didn't know what was going on on it and
- 16:00Speaker 4: know if I was it was some sort of irrational
- 16:02Speaker 4: fear or whatever. But right when I felt at the
- 16:06Speaker 4: phone rang and it was my friend who half its
- 16:10Speaker 4: left and he said, how are you doing? And I said,
- 16:14Speaker 4: I'm not doing real well. He says, I know. I
- 16:18Speaker 4: said what do you mean you know? And he said,
- 16:19Speaker 4: I got this feeling from God to call you and
- 16:24Speaker 4: walk it through this. And I said, all right, well
- 16:28Speaker 4: what does God suggests I do? And he says, pick
- 16:31Speaker 4: up your car and sing a song Chenus. So okay,
- 16:36Speaker 4: I'll do that. And he says I'll call you when
- 16:37Speaker 4: you're done. And I said, okay, I'll call you when
- 16:40Speaker 4: I'm done. He said, no, I will call you when
- 16:42Speaker 4: you're done. Okay, So I did. He said, sang a
- 16:46Speaker 4: song to Jesus. And just as I was playing the
- 16:49Speaker 4: last chord, I is the last chord. I was thinking
- 16:53Speaker 4: to myself, this is the last chord I'm going to play,
- 16:56Speaker 4: and I did. I played it and the phone rang
- 17:01Speaker 4: right away and it was my friend that had him,
- 17:04Speaker 4: and he said, now go to bed and you're going
- 17:07Speaker 4: to dream. You're going to dream about Jesus. You're have
- 17:12Speaker 4: an incredible dream. And I don't know if that was,
- 17:15Speaker 4: you know, a suggestion that I choken friend with or
- 17:19Speaker 4: a folk saw the teacher what. I have no idea
- 17:21Speaker 4: that fake, but anyway, I did it, he said, had
- 17:25Speaker 4: an incredible dream. Walk up the next day and forgot
- 17:27Speaker 4: about the whole thing until later on. And you know,
- 17:31Speaker 4: my day and I realized what it happened, and it'll
- 17:33Speaker 4: just trip me in out. So love your show, Appreciate
- 17:36Speaker 4: all you do. It's been a great journey with you.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Thank you, Dave from Salt Lake City.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Have a good day, my friend, Dave. First of all,
- 17:46Speaker 1: Jesus has your back, as you know, as he does
- 17:49Speaker 1: for all of us, which is great to hear. No surprise.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Thanks for Sharon, Dave. I remember last year, similar to
- 17:54Speaker 1: your story, when I was reading The Exorcist, the book
- 17:58Speaker 1: The Exorcist, and I was thinking about faith, because that's
- 18:01Speaker 1: the theme of the book, faith in the larger sense,
- 18:04Speaker 1: my faith, just the concept of faith. I was thinking
- 18:07Speaker 1: about it daily, and I was thinking specifically about pride,
- 18:13Speaker 1: the sin of pride. I was walking around for days
- 18:16Speaker 1: trying to come to terms with understanding how my own
- 18:20Speaker 1: pride was sinful, was trying to understand the concept of pride.
- 18:23Speaker 1: I was really struggling with this, and I went to
- 18:25Speaker 1: sleep one night and I had this dream that I
- 18:27Speaker 1: was being toyed with by a lion, a massive, giant
- 18:32Speaker 1: lion with these huge pause It was just pushing me around,
- 18:35Speaker 1: just toying with me, just playing with me. And I
- 18:38Speaker 1: wasn't scared. I was weirdly comfortable. And I woke up
- 18:42Speaker 1: the next morning and I thought lion pride, pride of
- 18:46Speaker 1: lions pride, And as that thought hit me, I was
- 18:50Speaker 1: also hit by a wave of I don't even know
- 18:52Speaker 1: how to describe. It was like elation. It was comfort,
- 18:54Speaker 1: it was security. It was the opposite of fear. It
- 18:58Speaker 1: was a feeling of everything's going to be okay. Dude,
- 19:00Speaker 1: all right, I've got you. Just chill, You're gonna be
- 19:02Speaker 1: all right. Now. This has nothing to do with hauntings.
- 19:05Speaker 1: It's kind of the opposite. Dave in Salt Lake, your
- 19:07Speaker 1: call reminded me of this, so I just thought i'd share.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Everything's gonna be all right, Dave. All right, Everything's going
- 19:12Speaker 1: to be all right, even if you Live in a
- 19:14Speaker 1: Haunted House from seventeen sixty three. Let's check out Scott
- 19:17Speaker 1: in the sixty two three.
- 19:18Speaker 5: Hey, Jake's Scott from the sixty two to three was
- 19:22Speaker 5: just listening to the Depeche Mode episode and I was there.
- 19:28Speaker 5: I used to be an assistant music buyer for Warehouse
- 19:31Speaker 5: Records and happened to be dating a girl that worked
- 19:37Speaker 5: for Ku Rock, the world famous k Rock, and we
- 19:43Speaker 5: were at the Warehouse Records on Losienica the night that
- 19:47Speaker 5: the incident happened, with the vierlater album release. Definitely one
- 19:53Speaker 5: of the scariest nights of my life being right in
- 19:57Speaker 5: the middle of it as it happened. We were in
- 20:00Speaker 5: I had the store helping facilitate the band and things happening,
- 20:07Speaker 5: and people started breaking through the windows. Then stuff was
- 20:10Speaker 5: being thrown at the store, and then it just all
- 20:12Speaker 5: helped broke. Just a crazy, crazy night, Just incredible thing
- 20:20Speaker 5: to be a part of. I was very fortunate to
- 20:23Speaker 5: attend a lot of music events over that couple.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Of years that I worked for the Warehouse Records.
- 20:31Speaker 5: Great episode, Rock and.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Roller, Scott, thanks for sharing, man. I love, love love
- 20:36Speaker 1: when folks who were at the events that were depicting
- 20:39Speaker 1: and describing in our episodes, call and connect with us
- 20:41Speaker 1: on their first hand experiences. Appreciate you. Scott. Sounds scary,
- 20:46Speaker 1: but at least you get a good story out of it.
- 20:48Speaker 1: And Scott, of course is talking about the Depeche Mode
- 20:50Speaker 1: episode that we released last week for our all Access
- 20:54Speaker 1: members in patreonyone. To hear that depeche Mode episode, you
- 20:57Speaker 1: get to get over there. Become a rock and Roller
- 20:59Speaker 1: member for five bucks a month. You're gonna get ad
- 21:01Speaker 1: free listening as well. All right, let's do this text
- 21:05Speaker 1: first of all. Six one seven nine oh six six
- 21:07Speaker 1: six three eight. Forgot to mention that six one seven
- 21:10Speaker 1: nine oh six six six three eight. You want to
- 21:12Speaker 1: hit me up on voicemail and text. And I don't
- 21:14Speaker 1: even know if I gave you that number when I
- 21:16Speaker 1: read the question of the week, which is gonna be
- 21:19Speaker 1: you know, who's your musical shrpa, who shepherded you into
- 21:22Speaker 1: all that great music as a teenager? What was their name?
- 21:26Speaker 1: What was their method? How do they do it? Six
- 21:28Speaker 1: one seven nine oh six six six three eight. That's
- 21:31Speaker 1: how you're gonna let us know. Playing hurt today, guys,
- 21:33Speaker 1: not gonna lie had a late night last night sucks one.
- 21:37Speaker 1: We'll get into that later. Four two five writes said, Hey,
- 21:40Speaker 1: Jake Jewels from Seattle, just listening to the led zeppel
- 21:42Speaker 1: Piece takes me back to the Fabulous Forum in nineteen
- 21:45Speaker 1: seventy seven, seventeen years old and totally psyched. First thing
- 21:49Speaker 1: we see upon entry bodies passed out along the curved walled.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Stupid suckers two wasted to see LEDs up. The show
- 21:57Speaker 1: was totally unbelievable, mind blowing for real. Thanks for your
- 22:00Speaker 1: great storytelling. Rock on, brother Jules. Just incredible, man, incredible.
- 22:05Speaker 1: I cannot imagine what it was like to see led
- 22:08Speaker 1: Zeppelin in nineteen seventy seven. Fomo, I am jealous. Six
- 22:14Speaker 1: one five text in Jake Brennan. I just finished We
- 22:18Speaker 1: Begin at the End, and now I'm sobbing. Thanks to
- 22:21Speaker 1: you guys getting a lot of messages about this book.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I talked a lot about this book because this book
- 22:28Speaker 1: is freaking amazing. We begin at the End by Chris
- 22:30Speaker 1: Whitaker is fantastic. You don't believe me, asked doctor Lundy
- 22:33Speaker 1: or just listen to what the six one five said there,
- 22:36Speaker 1: fantastic book. I just read The Power in the Glory
- 22:40Speaker 1: by Graham Green, and I have lots of thoughts. I'm
- 22:43Speaker 1: going to get into none of them here, but if
- 22:45Speaker 1: anyone wants to talk about that, hit me up on Patreon.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I'm reading now finally, Blood Meridian by Cormick McCarthy, and Wow,
- 22:54Speaker 1: this guy's a special writer. Special writer. It's you have
- 22:58Speaker 1: to kind of for anyone who has read Cormick McCarthy before.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I read The Road back in the day, but this one,
- 23:04Speaker 1: it's a similar style, not exactly the same, but you
- 23:09Speaker 1: just got to kind of submit to this dude's style
- 23:11Speaker 1: of writing. It's just go into it knowing this isn't
- 23:14Speaker 1: going to be a normal novel. Okay, it's going to
- 23:18Speaker 1: be different. It's like Frank Zappa fans. That's a bad analogy.
- 23:22Speaker 1: What's a better analogy. It's I don't know. It's like
- 23:25Speaker 1: I guess Metallica. You go to a Metallica concert, you
- 23:27Speaker 1: can expect that it's going to be loud. You read
- 23:29Speaker 1: a Cormick McCarthy book, you gotta you expect you're gonna
- 23:31Speaker 1: be pulled into the slipstream. And he's in charge. He
- 23:35Speaker 1: is just he's got you. He is the current, and
- 23:39Speaker 1: you're just you're just a leaf and you're just floating along.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Man.
- 23:42Speaker 1: You can't fight it, you can't go against the current.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Does that make sense? I think it does for me anyways.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Six one seven, nine oh six, six sixty three eight.
- 23:49Speaker 1: You want to get at me about anything, music related,
- 23:51Speaker 1: question of the week, books, whatever, hit me up voicemail
- 23:55Speaker 1: and text, and I'm always available in the Patreon chat
- 23:58Speaker 1: as well. Now, I saw an incredible television series. I
- 24:02Speaker 1: finished it last week. I want to talk to you
- 24:04Speaker 1: guys about it a minute, but I can take a
- 24:05Speaker 1: quick break back in the flash. I finished watching Black
- 24:23Speaker 1: Rabbit on Netflix, starring Jason Bateman in Jude Law, and
- 24:30Speaker 1: I just don't know that I've seen a better limited
- 24:33Speaker 1: series on television than this show. Now I know. It's
- 24:38Speaker 1: it's like they almost it's the makers, the filmmakers, sorry,
- 24:42Speaker 1: the television makers, the showrunners, the writers. It's almost as
- 24:46Speaker 1: if they took me and they put me in a
- 24:48Speaker 1: lab and they studied exactly what would appeal to me,
- 24:51Speaker 1: and then they went off and they they made a
- 24:53Speaker 1: television limited series about it, and they came back with
- 24:56Speaker 1: Black Rabbit. It's perfectly calibrated to make me, of all
- 25:01Speaker 1: people love it and if you're a music fan, if
- 25:04Speaker 1: you're somebody who's spent a lot of time in New York,
- 25:08Speaker 1: if you're gen X, this is just you know, if
- 25:12Speaker 1: you have friends who work in the service industry, if
- 25:14Speaker 1: you've you've played in restaurants, it's just if you were
- 25:17Speaker 1: in bands. It's just all the things man, plus all
- 25:20Speaker 1: the charm of Jason Bateman and Jude Law. An incredible,
- 25:25Speaker 1: propulsive storytelling, just fantastic. I want to talk about all
- 25:29Speaker 1: of it, but I don't want to spoil it for you.
- 25:32Speaker 1: It's got me thinking too. I had this idea about
- 25:34Speaker 1: doing a hollywood Land episode on Jason Bateman and Jude
- 25:37Speaker 1: Law because Jason Bateman and jud Law both had these
- 25:39Speaker 1: mid career dips at different ages. I believe for both
- 25:42Speaker 1: of them. Bateman goes into it in great detail in
- 25:45Speaker 1: his Mark Maron interview from about five six years ago.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Whenever that was it's hysterical, But I thought, I had
- 25:54Speaker 1: this idea, and Zeth, if you're listening, and I know
- 25:56Speaker 1: you are, where we do a hollywood Land episode and
- 25:59Speaker 1: it's it's on both these guys. It's a joint episode
- 26:03Speaker 1: and we track both their careers and their mid career
- 26:05Speaker 1: dips and then their comebacks at the Black Rabbit, which
- 26:09Speaker 1: I thought would be very cool. Black Rabbit as a
- 26:11Speaker 1: restaurant for those of you who don't know, that's why
- 26:13Speaker 1: I said, at the Black Rabbit. And the series is
- 26:15Speaker 1: called Black Rabbit. So there you go. And there's some
- 26:18Speaker 1: strokes involved. I'm not going to give it away. Just
- 26:21Speaker 1: the strokes, Okay, all right, but that I don't know.
- 26:24Speaker 1: That sounds that sounds difficult, But that doesn't stopped us
- 26:26Speaker 1: before me. We'll get into it. We have tons of
- 26:27Speaker 1: stories though, from the annex of Hollywood and true crime
- 26:30Speaker 1: happening over in the Hollywood Land Feed with doctor Lundi,
- 26:33Speaker 1: who I just mentioned who's taking your voicemails and texts
- 26:36Speaker 1: in the Rap Party bonus episode. And if you're not listening,
- 26:39Speaker 1: here's a taste of what you're what you're missing. Go ahead,
- 26:41Speaker 1: and Matt playing the clip.
- 26:44Speaker 6: I'm just going to jump right into it here at
- 26:46Speaker 6: the top of the block here and give you a
- 26:48Speaker 6: couple of quotes from Robert Mitchum because they're just they're
- 26:52Speaker 6: so great. I want to I want to start with this. Okay,
- 26:54Speaker 6: here's one. I got three expressions, looking left, looking right,
- 26:59Speaker 6: and looking straight. Ahead, Number two movies bore me, especially
- 27:04Speaker 6: my own, and then number three third quote from Robert
- 27:08Speaker 6: Mitchum maybe my favorite. There just isn't any pleasing some people.
- 27:11Speaker 6: The trick is to stop trying, which that last one
- 27:15Speaker 6: reminds me of something my mom always used to say
- 27:18Speaker 6: to me, which was, who cares what other people think?
- 27:20Speaker 6: You're never gonna see these people again, right. It's like
- 27:23Speaker 6: some of the best life advice to get from a
- 27:25Speaker 6: person who was full of great advice, but I was
- 27:28Speaker 6: never personally able to take that advice and run with it.
- 27:31Speaker 6: I am so on Robert Mitcham at heart and my core.
- 27:35Speaker 6: I am a people pleaser, and I can't not care
- 27:39Speaker 6: what other people think, nor can I stop trying, like
- 27:42Speaker 6: Robert Mitcham said, And why is that? I don't know, Doc,
- 27:46Speaker 6: how much time you got. But enough about me. I
- 27:50Speaker 6: want to talk about Robert Mitcham. I want to talk
- 27:52Speaker 6: about the attitude of Robert Mitchum, the swagger, the defiance.
- 27:55Speaker 6: I mentioned this briefly last week, but Dennis Brennan, Jake's dad,
- 27:58Speaker 6: who helps us with some research here double Elvis, when
- 28:01Speaker 6: he did research on Robert Mitcham, he came back and
- 28:03Speaker 6: said This is like this guy was the biggest misanthrop
- 28:05Speaker 6: in Hollywood, and it got me thinking. As I was
- 28:08Speaker 6: thinking about Robert Mitcham over the weekend preparing to write
- 28:12Speaker 6: and record this episode, I wonder how a guy like
- 28:16Speaker 6: Robert Mitcham would fare in today's social media landscape.
- 28:21Speaker 1: All right, so subscribe to Hollywood Land. Just do that
- 28:24Speaker 1: on Apple Podcasts, on Spotify, on whichever podcast app you use.
- 28:28Speaker 1: It's Wednesday as I'm recording this, and you're likely hearing
- 28:32Speaker 1: this on Thursday, the day that it's being released. I
- 28:35Speaker 1: just watched last night an incredible playoff matchup between the
- 28:39Speaker 1: Red Sox and the Yankees. Now, before I get too far,
- 28:41Speaker 1: the sixty second Sports Ran under thirty seconds is once
- 28:44Speaker 1: again sponsored by five hour Energies new Pumpkin Spice flavor,
- 28:47Speaker 1: your favorite fall drink in an energy shot. You can
- 28:50Speaker 1: pick up a Pumpkin Spice five hour energy shot available
- 28:53Speaker 1: online at five hour energy dot com or Amazon. Try

- 28:58Speaker 1: your five hour energy shot, again available online at five
- 29:02Speaker 1: hour energy dot com or Amazon. And I gotta say
- 29:05Speaker 1: this is one of those moments where I don't even
- 29:06Speaker 1: know that I can rant. I mean, the Socks won
- 29:08Speaker 1: a barn burner of a high stakes pitching dual in
- 29:10Speaker 1: the opening playoff game last night against the Yankees. The
- 29:13Speaker 1: Pats did what a great football team is supposed to
- 29:16Speaker 1: do last Sunday, and they destroyed a crap team at home.
- 29:18Speaker 1: I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm kind of
- 29:20Speaker 1: afraid to rant. I'm afraid to complain because I don't
- 29:23Speaker 1: want to upset the Boston sports carra that we have
- 29:25Speaker 1: going into tonight's Game two against the Yankees. How pathetic
- 29:28Speaker 1: is that? A New Englander who can't find anything to
- 29:30Speaker 1: complain about? Who even am I? Okay, I know what
- 29:33Speaker 1: I'll complain about the damn well. I guess I could
- 29:37Speaker 1: complain about not being able to get the shot off
- 29:39Speaker 1: before the buzzer, but I won't. That was a sports
- 29:42Speaker 1: rant sponsored by five Hour Energies new Pumpkin Spice flavor.
- 29:44Speaker 1: These new Pumpkin Spice five hour Energy shots are fall
- 29:47Speaker 1: in a bottle and bring that classic pumpkin spice flavor
- 29:50Speaker 1: that we all know and love, our favorite fall drink
- 29:53Speaker 1: and an energy shot. You can pick up a Pumpkin
- 29:55Speaker 1: Spice five hour Energy shot available online at five hour
- 29:59Speaker 1: Energy dot Com or Amazon. Are the Patriots going to
- 30:02Speaker 1: make it to the Super Bowl this year? Highly unlikely,
- 30:05Speaker 1: but that's not gonna stop Zeth Lundy and I have
- 30:06Speaker 1: from talking about the halftime shows from the past that
- 30:10Speaker 1: were just bonkers crazy, all right, and some of course
- 30:13Speaker 1: it featured some great music. But to be honest, I
- 30:16Speaker 1: gotta say I'm more interested in the fifty year line magicians,
- 30:20Speaker 1: Phil Collins' is halftime cargo pants, Michael Jackson's bizarre disappearing act.
- 30:26Speaker 1: I'm more interested in that stuff that I am Prince
- 30:28Speaker 1: tearing it up in the rain. But we are going
- 30:31Speaker 1: to get to all of it in the exclusive all
- 30:34Speaker 1: access section of the after Party coming up. For our

- 33:08Speaker 1: how great this episode is. And I just want to
- 33:11Speaker 1: say thank you everybody who reached out, and thanks to
- 33:13Speaker 1: Zeth Lundy for putting together a fantastic episode over there.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Check out the wrap party as well at number five
- 33:19Speaker 1: six one seven nine oh six six six three eight
- 33:22Speaker 1: your voice keeps us sticking into the dark corners of music.
- 33:24Speaker 1: So keep calling, keep texting, get at us with your
- 33:28Speaker 1: answers to this week's question of the week. Who was
- 33:30Speaker 1: your musical shirpa? Who brought you in? Who turned you on?
- 33:33Speaker 1: Who was it? I want to hear about your uncle
- 33:35Speaker 1: Rick or whoever?
- 33:36Speaker 2: The hell?
- 33:36Speaker 1: Number six. Don't forget discos. This isn't just continent, it's community,
- 33:40Speaker 1: community of the obsessed. No one cares about music, books, records,
- 33:43Speaker 1: in the crime and grime that ties them all together
- 33:45Speaker 1: like you do. And well that's a disgrace. We got
- 33:47Speaker 1: a number seven this week, and that is go red
- 33:50Speaker 1: Sox all right. On September seventh, nineteen sixty eight, led
- 33:53Speaker 1: Zeppel play their first show ever under the name of
- 33:55Speaker 1: the New Yardbirds, confused the hell out of everybody, and
- 33:58Speaker 1: set out on a path that change music history. This
- 34:01Speaker 1: is what America was listening to on that day. According
- 34:05Speaker 1: to the Billboard Charts, Number one People Got to Be
- 34:09Speaker 1: Free The Rascals last week one peak position one weeks
- 34:15Speaker 1: on chart eight. Number two Born to Be Wild Steppenwolf
- 34:21Speaker 1: last week two, peak position two weeks on chart nine.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Number three Light My Fire Jose Feliciano last week peak
- 34:33Speaker 1: three peak position you three weeks on chart seven, number four,
- 34:39Speaker 1: Harper Valley, PTA Jeanie c Riley last week seven peak

- 34:48Speaker 1: The Doors last week's peak position number one weeks.
- 34:53Speaker 4: On the Shot.
- 35:03Speaker 3: Quit talking and start mixing.
