- 0:00Speaker 1: Jim Rose back here tomorrow. I'm Scott Voorhees welcoming live
- 0:03Speaker 1: in Lincoln, Sean Callahan. Sean, you're going to be put
- 0:06Speaker 1: to death. You get a final meal. What's it going
- 0:08Speaker 1: to be?
- 0:09Speaker 2: Probably a good ribeye. You've got to have something that's
- 0:16Speaker 2: going to go down with you forever, right?
- 0:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. I think the all-you-can-eat buffet and then
- 0:23Speaker 1: just constantly say, wait a second, I have not had
- 0:26Speaker 1: all I could eat. You could live for years forever.
- 0:29Speaker 2: It's got to be like the crab leg night at
- 0:32Speaker 2: the casino.
- 0:33Speaker 1: See, I thought maybe you'd say a Fairbury hot dog
- 0:36Speaker 1: or Ronza or Valentino's pizza with as much time. As
- 0:39Speaker 1: you spend at Memorial Stadium this Saturday night, it's a
- 0:42Speaker 1: blackout game, and the athletic director, Troy Dannen, also had
- 0:46Speaker 1: a few other fun things he wanted to throw at
- 0:48Speaker 1: the crowd on Saturday night or have the crowd throw
- 0:50Speaker 1: up into the air. What's going on on Saturday night
- 0:53Speaker 1: in terms of a party atmosphere?
- 0:55Speaker 2: Well, yeah, blackouts, obviously, a lot of new black merchandise,
- 0:59Speaker 2: black jerseys, black balloons. They're going to paint the field black,
- 1:05Speaker 2: all the logos, all the end zones. It's going to
- 1:09Speaker 2: be a great night for Memorial Stadium. Believe it or not,
- 1:12Speaker 2: it's the first home game on Halloween here since 1998.
- 1:18Speaker 2: So I don't know how that works with the calendar,
- 1:20Speaker 2: but they somehow avoided a Halloween home game all these years.
- 1:24Speaker 2: since the Texas game when Ricky Williams and Major Applewhite
- 1:27Speaker 2: were here. They did play Purdue on the road one
- 1:30Speaker 2: year on Halloween, but it's not been a normal deal.
- 1:34Speaker 2: But obviously the legendary Colorado game in the early 90s
- 1:37Speaker 2: was another Halloween game. Nebraska has only lost twice on
- 1:42Speaker 2: Halloween in history.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and if you're looking at the field, at midfield
- 1:47Speaker 1: they have something kind of special cooked up too, right?
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah, they're going to have the skull and the crossbones
- 1:53Speaker 2: on the midfield, which will be very unique. We haven't
- 1:57Speaker 2: seen that ever, obviously, other than the traditional right end
- 2:00Speaker 2: in the middle of the field. Troy Dannen's like, look,
- 2:03Speaker 2: there's going to be the people that want the attention
- 2:06Speaker 2: on social media that try to rip something they're doing.
- 2:09Speaker 2: But he has a lot of people have fun with it.
- 2:12Speaker 2: They like it. And it was really well received last year.
- 2:15Speaker 2: And they're excited about this year.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and of course, alternate uniforms, we're going blacks. And
- 2:21Speaker 1: if we beat Washington on Saturday night, no one will
- 2:25Speaker 1: be talking about all that goofy stuff on Sunday. Now,
- 2:27Speaker 1: of course, if Nebraska, let's just say, let's go out
- 2:31Speaker 1: on a limb and say we have a lead going
- 2:33Speaker 1: into the fourth quarter and then end up losing the game.
- 2:36Speaker 1: In the highly unlikely scenario that that would ever happen
- 2:39Speaker 1: to this team, then everyone's going to be talking about, well,
- 2:42Speaker 1: they're goofing around with this and they changed this and
- 2:44Speaker 1: the tradition's gone and blah, blah, blah. So you know what?
- 2:48Speaker 1: A win on Saturday night takes care of all that stuff.
- 2:51Speaker 1: The injury report's coming out today. We talked a little
- 2:54Speaker 1: bit yesterday about the running back position. Everything else seemed
- 2:57Speaker 1: to be in pretty good shape, especially on the defensive side.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah, Anthony Jones, as we know, is out for a
- 3:03Speaker 2: few weeks. He will return at some point with a
- 3:05Speaker 2: broken bone in his foot. But the running back room,
- 3:08Speaker 2: I think, was the most promising report we got that
- 3:11Speaker 2: three of the backs are out there practicing. Isaiah Mosey, even,
- 3:14Speaker 2: is back at practice. Jamal Rule and Mekhi Nelson, all
- 3:18Speaker 2: of them had ankle injuries. And the bye week came
- 3:21Speaker 2: at a great time. And I'll tell you this, you
- 3:24Speaker 2: never know on an ankle until they get out there
- 3:27Speaker 2: and do it in a game. Because once you make
- 3:29Speaker 2: that hard cut, You know, you find out a lot
- 3:32Speaker 2: about maybe where you're at health-wise and if you can
- 3:35Speaker 2: do what you can do. But Jamal Rule is the
- 3:37Speaker 2: one that they need back. They need a run game
- 3:40Speaker 2: to complement Calandria. And, you know, they kind of called
- 3:43Speaker 2: the backs out a little bit. Like, hey, you've got
- 3:45Speaker 2: to make guys miss. You've got to make plays. And
- 3:48Speaker 2: it's Big Ten football now. You've got to show up
- 3:51Speaker 2: these next five games.
- 3:52Speaker 1: What about the emphasis on special teams during the bye week?
- 3:56Speaker 2: Well, I mean, they only practiced a few times, and
- 4:02Speaker 2: it wasn't more light workouts. They didn't get a kick
- 4:06Speaker 2: a field goal out of Oregon. So that's, I think,
- 4:09Speaker 2: still on the back of my mind. Can Kyle Cunanan
- 4:12Speaker 2: come in and make some kicks? Because these games are
- 4:15Speaker 2: under 20 points right now in the Big Ten, and
- 4:18Speaker 2: a three-point kick is huge. Cunanan's had the three long
- 4:22Speaker 2: 50-plus yard misses, then the big 40-some yard miss against Indiana. And,
- 4:27Speaker 2: you know, you're going to probably need those here down
- 4:29Speaker 2: the stretch. So that's probably my biggest concern still is
- 4:32Speaker 2: can they make live field goals in games? They've had
- 4:35Speaker 2: such little opportunities to kick field goals or they've chosen
- 4:38Speaker 2: not to kick them. And eventually you're going to need
- 4:41Speaker 2: some of these kicks down the stretch here.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Well, let's have some fun this Saturday night. Sean, appreciate
- 4:46Speaker 1: the time this morning. Jim Rose is back to jaw
- 4:49Speaker 1: with you tomorrow morning right here.
- 4:51Speaker 2: All right. Thanks, guys.
- 4:52Speaker 1: On Big Red Radio.
