- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, friend, welcome back to Bible Tract Echoes.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Mike and McCurray, your host.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so much for joining us again today.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: If you missed the previous episodes of Bible Tract Echoes from this week, we're continuing a theme.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: We're in Psalm 1, grab your bottles, go to Psalm 1.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: We've been giving little warning about the dangers of those phones.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: the dangers of allowing unfettered access, not just to our children, but to ourselves.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: We allow ourselves so many liberties, don't we?
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: We think nobody's watching, nobody's looking, and we're so, they seem so innocuous, they seem so safe, right?
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: We're just using to, to YouTube, how to change the oil in the car, right?
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: We just use them to look up a recipe online.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: We use them for a lot more than that, don't we?
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: The happy man we've talked about on Monday says, no, yesterday we spoke about how bad apples, they aren't turned into good apples by good apples.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about the fact that one bad apple can spoil the whole bushel.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: Today we're going to talk about and ask this question, why am I or why are you so depressed?
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: maybe Psalm 1 will have an answer for us today.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: Listen to this message.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: I had the privilege of preaching at my home church not long ago.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: I pray it's a blessing to you now.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: What's more scornful than the average, the average, do-scroll session that we spend on social media?
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: You wanna talk about making light of sin,
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: Now, for one, one in four reels or TikToks you've come across are ads, and you know what you're doing?
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: You're filling someone's piggy bank when you watch those, even if you scroll by past them.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: But you know as well as I, that we, amen our past, are standing behind this pulpit,
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: CCM, and of course, it goes without saying Christian rock, harder, otherwise, no chance.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: Christian rap, get out of your Christian pop, all that, come on now.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: But instead of that, the computer that we have, the God's goodness, this ozone credible machine, we will download the devil's top 40 directly to our dome.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: in 15 second intervals.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: How much sense does that make?
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: And the vast majority of them, what do they do?
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: Make a mock at sin.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: Every other one in some form or fashion is making the light of sin.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: He that walketh with wise men shall be wise.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: Point me to more than two or three reels of the two or three thousand.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: God help us if we turn on the screen time report and put it up on the big screen behind us for each of us.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: That'd be worse, that'd be just as bad as people watching our life story in heaven one day.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: It tells the tale about why we make some of the foolish decisions we make, don't we?
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I appreciate him, man, like John early, remember him, teach them music and things like that and points out how music has such a strong pull to a muse, us, to turn off our brains, a negates, non-muse thinking, no think.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: Don't think, and it puts our mind into neutral.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: And there we are.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: Don't tell me your mind's not neutral when you can look up and be like an hour, and realize an hour and 15 minutes is gone off the clock or worse, and all you've done is nothing.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: It started with a recipe, and you're way down the rabbit hole now, aren't you?
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: And you think, oh, I'm gonna save this, I'm gonna pin this or whatever to my recipe.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: You haven't looked at those recipes, no, you haven't not.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: You haven't looked at that.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: We all have got a different things and work out, or a recipe, or a book that we're going to read, or whatever.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: And interspersed with all the helpful ones are about 98% trash.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: People making a market sin.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: We wouldn't let someone, we talked about this.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: We wouldn't let someone sit in our living room and curse the way that people doing our television.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: No, we'll put our earbuds and let them do it directly to us.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: Like, follow, share, subscribe, too.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: He that walk with his wise men shall be wise.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's just as much or a promise of God as any of the promise that Dan would have been spoken about and behind his phone, but.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: And you know what blessed is the man that walk him not the council on Gali or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of the scornful, that's a promise of God too.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: And you can't understand, it's like a contract, it builds on each other.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: You can't just pick one out of three or two out of three that you're going to avoid.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: Blessed is the man of walking non-accounts living on God.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm not going to listen to foolish people.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: People at work that try to tell me what to do and things like that.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to listen to them.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: I got family members.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: Blessed is the man of walking non-accounts living on God.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to stand in the way of sinners.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to go down to the bar.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to, but you'll sit literally sit or lay in your bed and sit in the seat of the scornful for hours on end.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: Tell me how that makes sense.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: collate that word blessed with happy if we can just suppose those two, and you wonder why you're not happy, why you don't have true joy.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: We talk about Instagram and all these, they feed you a false view of life.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone's always skinnier, better looking, better teeth, they've got nicer cars, their cars or rentals, and the private jets or our photoshoot.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: They don't actually own them, all right?
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: If you didn't realize this,
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: But everything looks sparkly and amazing.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: They put a filter on everything with AI, you got no idea what people are doing now.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: And with, oh, that's why I'm so depressed.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: You know, part of the reason you're so depressed is because you're letting people score in God.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: And score make a mock-it-send.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: And you'll just put that right in your veins.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: Blessed is the man, happy is the man.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: Make no mistake.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: This verse talks about influence.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: The closer you get, the stronger the pressure, the more time you spend, the more like them, you'll become, the more compromise you'll allow, the less blessing you retain.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: Walk, stand, sit, consecutive steps toward compromise.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: Let's very quickly.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: Would you turn to the book of Daniel for just a moment?
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: The book of Daniel?
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: Daniel chapter number one, it's want to show you this, keep you long, it's want to give you something to help combat this thing of giving you an ability to say no, Daniel chapter one, and verse number one, the Bible says this, Daniel one one,
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: In the third year of the reign of Jehoja King, King of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon unto Jerusalem and besieged it, and Lord gave Jehoja King, King of Judah.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: into his hand with part of the vessels of the House of God, which he carried into the land of shine, arch of the house of his young.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: He brought the vessels into the treasure house of his God.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: And the king, Spake on Ash Penaz, the master of his unix, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel and of the king's seed and other princes.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: Children in whom was no blamish, but well favored and skillful and all wisdom and cunning and knowledge and understanding science and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Caldeans,
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: the king's meat, the wine which he drank, so nourishing them three years that at the end thereof they might stand before the king now among the use were of the children of Judah Daniel, Hanna Naya, Michelle and Azariah, under whom the Prince of the Unix gave names for he gave him to Daniel.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: The name of Belta Shahzard, who had an eye of Shadrach, and to me, Shalvshak, and into Azariah of a Bendigo.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: But Daniel purposeed in his heart, that he would not defile himself with a portion of the kings and meat, know what the wine, which he drank, therefore he requested of the prince of the Unix, that he might not defile himself.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: Let me just give you very quickly.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's a hard thing.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: I realized this often for myself and preaching,
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: to just slap a hand and say, don't do that without giving the road map to how to do it.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't help too much.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: So what did Daniel do?
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: First he had some grit about him.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: GRIT, some grit.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's gonna rub people the long way sometimes.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: When you do write, it's gonna rub people the long way and it's going to take a conscious choice.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: See, my wife and Ms. Rachel and Ms. Cindy were talking about quilts and different things and talking about a blanket that Lucy has and it's a double-sided, it has fleece, the fleece soft stuff on both sides.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's not really a quilt.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's just kind of salt on both sides and it's very, it's very comfortable.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: And it's easy.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: I can only imagine a thingfully they wake up in just barely early enough for school as you know how that goes.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: But I can imagine how if you're laying with that thing up against your face, you wouldn't want to, you wouldn't want to go anywhere.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: But if you took some sandpaper and you just were running, you'd wake somebody up real quick, wouldn't you?
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: We can roll ourselves into a sense of complacency, can't we?
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: Because we're comfortable.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: But Daniel, he had some grit about him, and he was willing to be, if I can put it away, like Saul and one tells us, he was a little bit negative because there was a positive that he was trying to get to.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: Your influence might rub some people a wrong way, but may also influence others toward the right.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: understand while having grit, you can also be gracious.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: Daniel didn't stand up on a table and start kicking plates of meat over.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't just kick over the King's wine.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: No, he graciously asked.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: Please understand, there's a ditch on both sides of this thing.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: So while you have grit, maybe to start off with, you don't have to be 60 grit, okay?
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: You can start like 220 or something like that.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't know what I'm talking about, then forget that.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: But at the same time, my point is you can get people's attention without ripping the skin off of them, okay?
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: You can have grit.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: You must have grit, you can't be gracious, and you gotta have a gain plan.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: Daniel 1, 12, prove thy servants, I besieged the ten days, and let them give us pulse to eat and water to drink, then let our captains as be looked upon before thee, and the captains of the children that eat of the portion of the kings meet, and as thou seeest, deal with thy servants.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I'm going to give you this very quick.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: Let me give you the rest of the outline just so you have it.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: We'll come back.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: You must have God's grace, because God is ultimately in control.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: That's the last.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: But when we're talking about a game plan, we can hear a message not because tonight's something special, but because a Holy Spirit God may be prick your heart, and you realize your screen time on your phone.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: You see this device right here?
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: This is not the drug.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: This is the needle that delivers the drug.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: needles are just like guns.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: They're tools.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: And you can inject something that will help someone, saline solution.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: You can inject something that will save a life.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: You can also inject something that will end a life.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: The same needle that ends a life on death row is same needle that could put another quarter blood in somebody and help them out.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: friend.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: What do you do with those needles in your life?
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: Those devices in your life?
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: Are we careful with them?
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: No, for me personally, I decided, while back, I want to plug my phone in in my bedroom.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: Reason for that is because it comes a distraction.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: And looking at it, instead of just going to sleep, you know, you ever been there before, I'm realized I'm being transparent here, but maybe that little transparency that will help you to.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: A prayer is always, is it you have a great day for his glory?
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to continue this series in the Book of Psalms 1, tomorrow, God bless.
