- 0:06Speaker 1: 地方.
- 0:07Speaker 1: We are so excited to be here.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Welcome everybody to a very, very, very special episode called Wildflowers.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I'm going to be talking to LaKeisha here shortly and I just want to give everybody a quick heads up about what we're doing, because this is a little bit different from the standard, mrs Pi.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So Wildflowers is a reminder that even in the harshest conditions, through faith you can blossom into a marvel.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And LaKeisha, as our special guest in our lineup, she's going to be sharing some of the triumphs and adversities and how she emerged stronger, and I really think this is going to bless somebody.
- 2:17Speaker 1: So, lakeisha, I am so glad and so honored that you're here.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Thank you so much for joining me.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Thank you so much for the invitation.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Oh honored, oh, honored.
- 2:30Speaker 1: You already have, okay, you already have folks coming.
- 2:33Speaker 1: So hello to the dumping.
- 2:35Speaker 1: That's a whole podcast that is here to support you.
- 2:39Speaker 1: So, hey, dumping ground.
- 2:40Speaker 1: So, really quickly, I want to shout out that we have folks.
- 2:44Speaker 1: We're streaming on multiple places.
- 2:46Speaker 1: So we've got Facebook, we've got the Kamayla Wilderness prayer group Facebook, we've got LinkedIn, we've got YouTube, we've got Twitter, but we also are on Parade Deck Live TV and, just so you know, there's about 6 million or so subscribers on that, their network.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So, hey, everybody, and thank you so much for watching.
- 3:10Speaker 1: So you know, when we were getting this started with Wildflowers, the concept was I really wanted to shift, because normally we talk to business women and we, you know business men and we come on and talk about our jobs and our lifestyles and our family and those type of things.
- 3:27Speaker 1: But really honestly, I, you know, I felt like there's an opportunity for us to hear from especially women like yourselves, who've gone through some things and can help the rest of us.
- 3:37Speaker 1: So I want to just start by just getting to know you a little bit and finding out, you know, what do you do in your day job, like what, what do you, what do you do and who are you?
- 3:47Speaker 1: All right.
- 3:50Speaker 2: So, as you might can tell in the background, I am at my school that I am teaching at, currently just graduated with my bachelor's degree in June.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I was a teacher's assistant for seven years and now I'm in the lead position, Praise God.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I have been working with children for years.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Oh, this is really my passion, my gift.
- 4:24Speaker 2: I think I told the story to some of my family and friends and colleagues on how, when I was younger, my mom, before she passed she was trying to get the same degree that I conquered.
- 4:40Speaker 2: So as I was growing up, I always attracted or merged to the younger children to be a babysitting.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Everybody wanna be around me.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Even now, kids wanna come over for some reason.
- 4:58Speaker 2: I don't understand, but yes, I do love the kids.
- 5:04Speaker 2: My husband is pastor.
- 5:06Speaker 2: He's been there.
- 5:07Speaker 2: He's been pastoring 21 years, but he grew up in the church that he now pastor, which the church celebrated 89 years this past month.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Wow, yes, so I'm a church girl.
- 5:24Speaker 2: I grew up in church, fellowship missionary Baptist Church.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I'm the rubbing Dr Clay Evans.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I was there until I met my husband and, yeah, I was having that whole issue.
- 5:37Speaker 2: That's a go ahead and go with him, but that's it.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I have three biological children and a bonus child, because he would kill me if I don't say that yeah, 28, 27.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Wow.
- 5:57Speaker 2: My daughter's 21 and my bonus child is nine.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Oh, wow, I love that, I love that.
- 6:04Speaker 1: So let me ask you first lady yeah, let me ask you this first lady when you talk about your gift.
- 6:12Speaker 1: So for those who are trying to understand how to identify what their gift is, because I think a lot of times for us it's kind of you know, you kind of know what you're good at and we take it for granted.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Sometimes, like what my gift is, I didn't think of it as a gift, I just thought of it as me, just being me.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I'm a little weird, I'm a little quirky and I talk to Jesus in a different way.
- 6:37Speaker 1: So how did you and you shared that?
- 6:42Speaker 1: There's a natural, something natural about you know people gravitating towards you, especially kids.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yes.
- 6:52Speaker 1: But how did you come to I really identify, like you know what this is my calling or this is my gift.
- 6:59Speaker 2: You know what I believe, even though I've been doing it for years, it really didn't click until a couple of months or months ago.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I was asking my husband can we restart Sunday school?
- 7:14Speaker 2: And I was trying to put out people.
- 7:17Speaker 2: You know that I can ask.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Well, maybe I can ask so-and-so, can they start?
- 7:22Speaker 2: Maybe I can.
- 7:22Speaker 2: So he just kept going and then eventually I said, well, you know what I can do it.
- 7:28Speaker 2: And he said I was waiting for you, I was waiting for you to come to that conclusion.
- 7:34Speaker 2: So that, right there, just let me know, yes, that is my gift.
- 7:40Speaker 2: My gift is, you know, nurturing, teaching, educating young children, and I love it.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I noticed that, even though I feel I like more working, more with the pre-K, kindergarten, maybe first grade, good Working with Boys and Girls Club and I'm with the older kids, yeah, I noticed that I do have something to share with them, also because I've experienced different things at a young age and I'm able to relate my story and help other young girls conquer certain things that they're going through, even though now we know we live in a total different day and age, especially with pre-teenies.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Yes, they go.
- 8:39Speaker 2: I said I feel like my mother and grandparents when they say you know, when I was younger, you know it was like this.
- 8:47Speaker 2: But it's true, because they go, they are experiencing different.
- 8:53Speaker 2: They're on a whole different level than we were when we were their age.
- 9:00Speaker 1: What are your thoughts around?
- 9:01Speaker 1: So this is one of those, you know how especially believers in Christian, christian, especially Christian women myself in it where we tend to respond to someone asking for help but just I'm going to pray for you, and a lot of us just kind of leave it there.
- 9:18Speaker 1: How do you respond to especially pre-teen and teen girls when they're in that situation where it's not just a okay, I'll just pray for you, you have to do something else or, you know, encourage them in a different way.
- 9:33Speaker 1: What is some of the advice that maybe you could share with even parents that might be watching about?
- 9:39Speaker 1: How do you, you know, how do you help your teens and pre-teens beyond just saying I'm going to pray for you.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Listen to them.
- 9:47Speaker 2: You have to really a lot of times, you know, when we sit and talk to our children, it's just that a talk, but you have to really listen because they can be telling, they can tell you something in the midst of a conversation, but you have to have that ear to catch like oh, oh, that's what you're talking.
- 10:09Speaker 2: You know it's like a high moment you have because I noticed that even with my own daughter, my, because she's the youngest, and a lot of the conversations that we have, I always I mentioned this and shared this with some of the girls here with my kids period I always had open communication with them, even though the boys, you know they be like I'm not talking to you.
- 10:36Speaker 2: No, ma'am, why are you asking me that?
- 10:41Speaker 2: Because I want to know and I better ask because if I don't, you'll get out there and do something crazy.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Yeah, and my daughter I found we have, of course, stronger relationship in our conversations Are amazing.
- 10:59Speaker 2: I love the bond that we have.
- 11:04Speaker 2: She will talk to me about a lot of things and I noticed some things she might not talk to me about but she'll talk, you know, either to her friends or God's sister because they're a little older than her.
- 11:17Speaker 2: And other than that, my advice to parents please listen to your children when they are talking to you.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Ask questions when they come home how was your day?
- 11:32Speaker 2: What happened at school today?
- 11:34Speaker 2: You have to have those type of conversations, don't just let them come in the house, go in a room, get on a phone.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I love that.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I love the idea.
- 11:43Speaker 1: We're really quick to be like I'm tired, You're tired, we're all tired.
- 11:46Speaker 1: There's a question in the chat that says was the open communication a part of your upbringing?
- 11:56Speaker 2: Not really, I think from pre, not in my pre-teen, because my mom passed when I was 12.
- 12:04Speaker 2: So I was actually going into eighth grade and she passed that summer.
- 12:09Speaker 2: So I really between, like my aunts, my mom sisters.
- 12:16Speaker 2: I really could talk to them.
- 12:18Speaker 2: I really could my dad not so doing that time, but I would say my mom younger sister, I could really talk to her even today.
- 12:32Speaker 2: And today is really much better and fun because we're both adults.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Yeah, so we can have adult conversations.
- 12:45Speaker 1: So as a first lady, you don't have to give out names and stories.
- 12:49Speaker 1: But I was just curious from the back of the pew, when you're counseling women and moms, especially women in the church, is it a different approach when it comes to that kind of communication?
- 13:06Speaker 1: Because you can only share so much about your personal journey because of the relationship that you have with the pastor and et cetera.
- 13:16Speaker 1: But how do you manage those types of communication?
- 13:22Speaker 2: I find myself, of course, talking with younger women, but lately I have had conversations with women older than me.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I find myself feel telling my story because a lot of times the conversations that we are having connects to things that I have experienced.
- 13:49Speaker 2: So I can tell that my experiences have shifted for this day and age and it's helping helping others.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Would you mind sharing a part of what that story is with women who might be listening?
- 14:07Speaker 2: So when I was younger, my mom, she was diagnosed with she had a condition that psychosis is called and at that time it was not really known.
- 14:27Speaker 2: So she basically was like an experiment.
- 14:31Speaker 2: So a lot of doctors she went to, you know, was trying this, that, to see what was going, but it really attacked her lungs and she had lesions on her cheeks.
- 14:43Speaker 2: So for her to go out in public, of course, you know she experienced people staring or even somebody saying something out of pocket because you don't know, you know.
- 14:56Speaker 2: So as the years went on, when she was close to death, she had, it was her.
- 15:11Speaker 2: She couldn't breathe and she kind of almost felled out in the street and I remember that day, like it was today, and they rushed her to the hospital.
- 15:24Speaker 2: I remember going visiting her my last time and they allowed me to go up and see her and you know, when I think of it now, you know it feels kind of, yeah, because I was, you know.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I can definitely and, again, I'm really sorry for the loss.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I think, I think a lot of us as we get older.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I mean, my mom passed in 2018.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I'm Jamaican, by the way.
- 15:56Speaker 1: She was in Jamaican, I was here physically and I'm, you know, even in that grieving process.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I don't know that I've actually actually started grieving and it's 2023.
- 16:07Speaker 1: So, you know, I think, that the one part about losing, especially someone that close to you and your mother, it does.
- 16:17Speaker 1: It takes time and there is no amount of time.
- 16:22Speaker 1: There's no right amount of time you're always going to have that connection and I wonder what your thoughts are around.
- 16:29Speaker 1: How has that basically it's trauma.
- 16:34Speaker 1: So how has that trauma impacted you as a mom or as a you know first lady, as a nurturing you know?
- 16:44Speaker 1: Again, I understand why the gift is there, you know you're drawn to kids, but how do you think that has kind of impacted what you actually do as a mom and as a first lady in your career?
- 16:56Speaker 2: So I noticed that me and my sister actually was having this conversation, and when you lose a mom at a young age, I feel that you're yearning for or something as you get older, and so you, you search and you test and you experiment different things in different ways I can share.
- 17:23Speaker 2: I was married before my husband and it was an older person.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I was yearning for that love that I felt that I didn't, of course, receive in totality from my mom because she was gone, and then my dad.
- 17:42Speaker 2: I felt that that's the love that I wanted.
- 17:47Speaker 2: So I wound up being in an abusive verbally abusive relationship and I feel that that part could tribute it to me.
- 17:58Speaker 2: But I realized, you know, in certain situations and I knew I was not gonna stay in that situation because I had family members and friends that been in that type of relationship I knew right, and I it wasn't, until I woke up myself and said you know you're not supposed to be here, you know you're not supposed to be with him, it's time to go.
- 18:28Speaker 2: And I, I believe that moment the Lord spoke to me and said Take everything you can and Don't turn back.
- 18:39Speaker 2: And that's just what I did.
- 18:40Speaker 2: So get everything that I could take on the plane.
- 18:43Speaker 2: So you know that wasn't much.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I must everything and I was pregnant at the time.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Wow, and then turn back Wow that's a whole leap of faith.
- 18:58Speaker 1: He talked a little bit about the role that Jesus played in that.
- 19:04Speaker 1: You know, like it's not.
- 19:06Speaker 1: You know this is not again for those who are watching.
- 19:08Speaker 1: A lot of times people watch these shows and they they're seeing the end part or Further down in the journey right now understand.
- 19:16Speaker 2: It's a, it's a journey, y'all but, you know, I think at the moment, because you know, growing up in church, when you child, we're not listening, yeah, you come to church to see our friends hanging out with our friends.
- 19:34Speaker 2: And then, as you get older, you kind of remember certain things and it's like oh, so that's what that meant.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Oh wait, that's what that meant.
- 19:43Speaker 2: But I remember when I I heard the voice say take everything and leave, I said Lord, I promise I Would not turn back and I did not turn.
- 19:56Speaker 2: And even though he was doing everything to try to Give me the comeback, I never went back, never went back.
- 20:05Speaker 2: I remember Sam, my grandmother told me I she said this, not the church versions she said you never eat your Wurgurgitation.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yes, yes so that means don't go back, don't go back, don't go back.
- 20:35Speaker 2: And God has I mean from that God has truly.
- 20:38Speaker 2: He has he truly blessed me being from that relationship and being told that because I was young and didn't have a job and was pregnant, nobody else who want me it was.
- 20:54Speaker 2: That's like what you think you're gonna go out there.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Who else want to raise somebody else's child?
- 20:58Speaker 2: I had a child.
- 21:00Speaker 2: I had that whole Conversation told to me by him, the whole, and then look at God.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Look what he's funny.
- 21:09Speaker 2: He gave me a preacher.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Right, so you move from the back of the view to the front.
- 21:20Speaker 2: My god, what was?
- 21:21Speaker 1: that like.
- 21:21Speaker 1: What was that like?
- 21:22Speaker 1: Because that that is a huge, that's a huge transition.
- 21:26Speaker 2: What are some of the as a pastor's wife that you have what is something I mean just from.
- 21:33Speaker 2: I'll say, like the lifestyle, I guess I didn't have a bad lifestyle and but just to meet somebody that was a minister at the time, he wasn't a pastor I was like, okay, I mean, he's just a minister, you know, not a pastor and For him to accept me, you know, and was willing to Be with me through my pregnancy process we wasn't even, you know, engaged or anything, we were dating and For him to be there through the whole process, for him to take over the role of A fatherhood he didn't have any kids, he didn't have to do that at all and even to this day People think my son is biologically his son.
- 22:31Speaker 2: They look just alike, they look exactly alike, but he didn't have to do that.
- 22:39Speaker 2: But for me to be Come from where I came from and be placed Also in the showroom, I'll say yeah, yeah, it was a different experience.
- 22:54Speaker 2: And then finding out, oh, I think by this time we were married Two years, I think, and they voted him in past.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I say, wow, I'm actually this little different assignment.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Different except different different assignment.
- 23:20Speaker 2: But I've been in it 21 years, through the good, the bad, the ups, the down, all all the above.
- 23:32Speaker 2: But I wouldn't trade it for the world.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I would not.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I've learned a lot, I've met a lot of people, I've built a lot of relationships.
- 23:42Speaker 2: I love it.
- 23:44Speaker 2: I thank God for the roots that I've had as bring.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Am I bringing up as a church girl, cause that's what they used to call me in high school, cause I always wanted to go to church.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Wow.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Got me church girl.
- 23:59Speaker 2: And here you are, the being out is saying you had a plan, you had a plan.
- 24:07Speaker 1: You had a planster.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
- 24:11Speaker 1: I love that.
- 24:12Speaker 1: What advice would you give for those who might be maybe they're a little bit on the struggle bus, maintaining their faith?
- 24:21Speaker 1: What advice would you have for those folks?
- 24:26Speaker 2: Find you a person that you trust, that you can have a real conversation with, and a person that is willing to pray with you, a person that is willing to pray for you.
- 24:42Speaker 2: You have to have a prayer partner, you have to, and what I do is now I've been doing it for a while I find affirmations to say in the morning, on my way to work, before I come to work, I find, of course, seeing my songs.
- 25:08Speaker 2: I have those playing and, of course, prayer.
- 25:14Speaker 2: You have to start your day with prayer and a lot of people think it's hard to pray.
- 25:20Speaker 2: You know, or is it a certain way you have to pray?
- 25:25Speaker 2: No, you can be riding in your car and say, lord, guide my hands while I'm driving, or even if somebody come across your mind, lord, touch so, and so that's a prayer.
- 25:38Speaker 2: You don't have to go.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Lord, in the name of Jesus, I come.
- 25:42Speaker 2: You don't have to do all of it, but even though some I know some people feel that way because that's what's put before us.
- 25:49Speaker 2: But you can do a quick.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Those are called sentence prayer, quick, quick prayer.
- 25:55Speaker 1: That's right.
- 25:56Speaker 1: I love that I was.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I gave a message this past weekend at a church.
- 26:00Speaker 1: I'm in Georgia and I was talking to the women was a women, a ladies conference about the prayer clauses, how we, a lot of us, have spent a whole lot of time and a whole lot of money in these prayer clauses.
- 26:14Speaker 1: You come outside and everything.
- 26:17Speaker 1: You literally leave stuff in the prayer closet and you're still battling the same issues.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Everything is a generational curse, all those things, and I was sharing with them that you can literally have these same prayers standing in the kitchen sitting in the car.
- 26:33Speaker 1: So, as you're saying that it's the same, I think we tend to have that religious spirit, but we don't have a relationship with Jesus.
- 26:42Speaker 1: And you got which one you want, Cause I'm going for the relationship Exactly.
- 26:49Speaker 2: You know, I was so amazed to see when she was in high school.
- 26:53Speaker 2: I went in her room one day and she had like posty notes with just little prayers posty notes and she had a few like scriptures posty notes go to the bed.
- 27:07Speaker 2: I was like, oh okay, she.
- 27:10Speaker 2: You know the Lord.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Right, that's right, it's first.
- 27:15Speaker 2: No, do it like how you want to do it.
- 27:18Speaker 1: That's right, I love that.
- 27:20Speaker 1: I love that.
- 27:20Speaker 1: So we've got a few more minutes.
- 27:22Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you, just looking back at, just looking back at your life and maybe where you are, what you know, what do you want to be remembered for?
- 27:37Speaker 2: My loyalty.
- 27:38Speaker 2: I'm a person that, uh, we'll be with you to the end.
- 27:45Speaker 2: I love supporting people.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Uh, no matter, really, no matter what.
- 27:51Speaker 2: I try to support everybody, be it uh, parties, because I love parties.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Parties, um, if anybody having some type of a program or um speaking engagement, a summit, um, um, if they're dancing somewhere, like the teenagers at a football game, I'll go.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Um, whatever I can.
- 28:22Speaker 2: I want people they're gonna remember me.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Oh, kisha Kleis, she was a supporter.
- 28:27Speaker 2: She was one.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Yes, she was very much.
- 28:31Speaker 2: I try, I think I'm a, I feel I'm a people's person.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Um, I just love to enjoy.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Especially now I'm really enjoying life, so, whatever that entails, I'm there.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I love that.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Thank you so much for sharing that.
- 28:49Speaker 1: I really appreciate your vulnerability.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Um.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Thank you for sharing your um, your experience and your story about your mom and your healing process.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Um, thank you for trusting us by doing that.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Like I said, I you know, if it helps one person, we we did what the Lord sent us to do.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Yeah, if it helps, you know, if it helps tennis, a blessing, it doesn't matter.
- 29:12Speaker 1: We just I'm just so grateful that that you would um spend your time with us this evening and generally, I appreciate you so much.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Like Kisha, what did you want to um?
- 29:23Speaker 1: Is there anything else you want to say before we tell these people deuces?
- 29:26Speaker 2: um no, well, you know what my thing these days is just to live.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Whatever your living is.
- 29:36Speaker 2: If it be um, read more.
- 29:39Speaker 2: If that's reading a book, if that's reading a bible, pray more.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Um, give more.
- 29:46Speaker 2: It doesn't have to be monetarily.
- 29:49Speaker 2: You could give of your time.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Um, you can help somebody who need, uh, like we do at our church, we do a feeding.
- 29:59Speaker 2: I love it.
- 30:00Speaker 2: We do it once a month.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Um, I love just seeing people come in and even the testimonies that they say we be waiting for you all they're waiting for us to do.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I love it.
