Transcript
- 0:00Happy Thursday morning everybody.
- 0:04Today is going to be a big day. Mark Martin on Kenny
- 0:10Conversation We have had Mark Martin in depth about his racing
- 0:17career on Kenny Conversation. However, we felt like it was
- 0:23time to revisit Mark Martin because Mark has been on social
- 0:28media and his opinions have been strong.
- 0:32Let me explain. Mark comes from a standpoint
- 0:39that he's aggravated with NASCAR and he had a lot to say.
- 0:45I come from a standpoint where I don't think I can change NASCAR.
- 0:52So let's have fun. And I see all the older NASCAR
- 0:59fans upset and they want change. Well, I just don't think we're
- 1:05going to make a difference. I don't think we're going to
- 1:07change NASCAR. So I come from the standpoint
- 1:12that there's too much complaining.
- 1:16I come from the standpoint you all are exhausting.
- 1:19You all wear me out. I come from the standpoint that
- 1:24I'm a happy person. I, I, I just grew up like this.
- 1:28So for me to defer, in other words, look, let me, let me take
- 1:36everybody's anger and let's have a little fun with it.
- 1:41I've always told you all, I grew up on Saturday Night Live.
- 1:45So I take, I take people's anger.
- 1:49I'm, I'm getting ready to laugh right now and, and I'm like,
- 1:52let's have fun with it. So I started the old people, you
- 1:56know, you old people. And I've said several times and
- 2:01you all know it by now, old people is a joke, you know.
- 2:05And then of course, the sitcom Sanford and Son Lamar, you big
- 2:11dummy. So I've said this over the last
- 2:15two weeks. I've explained myself well with
- 2:20that, Mark Martin piped up one day.
- 2:23He goes, you know what? These, these old people, this is
- 2:30starting to hit pretty close to home.
- 2:34Wow, Mark Martin responded to me.
- 2:39Having fun with all you old people.
- 2:42You're angry. You complain all the time.
- 2:44It's exhausting. So Mark Martin said.
- 2:47Listen, this is starting to hit pretty close to home.
- 2:50So immediately I call Mark on the phone, I call Mark.
- 2:54I said Mark, I said, you want to do a Kenny conversation.
- 2:59He said Mark. Mark responded, absolutely.
- 3:02I said, you want to do it tomorrow.
- 3:04He said, right now let's do it. So it was my idea to get Mark
- 3:11Martin on a second Kenny conversation, and I thought this
- 3:15would be good. And boy, Mark Martin had a lot
- 3:18to say. We went an hour and 23 minutes
- 3:22effortlessly. Mark Martin did most of the
- 3:25talking. I know the whole racing
- 3:29community. I know Dale Junior, I know
- 3:32everybody is going to be watching it.
- 3:35It's coming out today, Mark Martin, like I've never heard
- 3:41before. Mark makes a lot of good points.
- 3:47I'm going to let you in on a little excerpt, you know, like a
- 3:54little piece of what he said that really shocked me, made me
- 3:56look differently. I do want to let you all know
- 4:00that Mark Martin specifically blames one group of people for
- 4:05this, and it's not NASCAR. Mark Martin says there's one
- 4:10group of people to blame for the change in NASCAR, and it's not
- 4:16NASCAR. You're going to want to hear
- 4:17that, OK. He also said something to me
- 4:21that made me think differently. And of course, everybody has
- 4:26been showing the Richard Petty video from, you know, 40 years
- 4:30ago where Richard Petty says we're not baseball, we're not
- 4:35football, we're not hockey. That's why we're awesome,
- 4:38because we are not like other sports.
- 4:42Well, on this Kenny conversation with Mark Martin, he said
- 4:47something that I went, wow, you're right, he said.
- 4:52Mark Martin said, I don't like it that NASCAR calls it the
- 4:56playoffs. We're not the damn playoffs,
- 5:02Mark Martin said, I don't like it that they used the word
- 5:06overtime. We're not in overtime.
- 5:11I went, wow, I never looked at it that way.
- 5:16I said, Mark, do you think NASCAR show some keywords to
- 5:21make us like other sports play offs?
- 5:25We're in the play offs like baseball, football, hockey.
- 5:29We're going into overtime like all the other sports.
- 5:33So you're going to want to listen to this.
- 5:35Mark Martin makes a lot of sense and he's very good.
- 5:39And of course there's already been a cut out.
- 5:42There's already been an excerpt put out on video.
- 5:46Charlie put it out yesterday. Mark Martin feels like his
- 5:50career has been diminished with all the he calls them gimmicks.
- 5:55I call them promos in ending. I explained to myself, to you, I
- 6:01said I come at this, I come at NASCAR as we're not going to
- 6:06change it. So I'm having fun with it.
- 6:10Mark Martin comes at it like, Nope, I'm pissed.
- 6:16So it was my idea once again, for the second time.
- 6:19It was my idea and it was a great, great conversation and I
- 6:24hope you will like it. And it's coming out today.
- 6:28Today is Thursday, obviously. Yesterday, Wednesday, NASCAR
- 6:33comes out with another big press conference.
- 6:36Steve O'Donnell, the new president.
- 6:40Steve says the days of us building a racetrack in a rural
- 6:45area is over. I'm going to repeat it, then I'm
- 6:49going to explain it. NASCAR President Steve O'Donnell
- 6:53said the days of us building a racetrack in a rural area is
- 6:59over. Now, what does that mean?
- 7:02Well, Pocono is in a rural area there.
- 7:05There's nothing around Pocono. It's the racetrack and that's
- 7:08it. Iowa Speedway is in a rural
- 7:11area. There's a racetrack and there's
- 7:13nothing around it there. I think on the corner there's a
- 7:16hotel and a gas station. So when you look at a lot of
- 7:20these race tracks that are built, that have been built in
- 7:25the day for years, NASCAR would build a racetrack.
- 7:29They'd find some land out, way out, and they build a racetrack.
- 7:33You know, for the better part, you even look at Chicago.
- 7:37I mean, there's nothing around Chicago.
- 7:40The racetrack. It is, it's it's a commerce area
- 7:45for sending things down, down the river, down the big old
- 7:50Illinois River. So when you when you go to
- 7:52Chicago Speedway, it's very commercialized.
- 7:55I mean commercialized to the maximum peak.
- 7:57Like there's nothing around there.
- 7:59OK. I mean, I guess you could go
- 8:00down to Joliet and find some, a casino or or so.
- 8:05But there's really, you know, it's, it's very commercialized.
- 8:09OK. And the next thing that Steve
- 8:13O'Donnell said caught me off guard.
- 8:16Now reported by Adam Stern. Everybody not me, Adam Stern, go
- 8:21to Adam Stern. Adam Stern said that NASCAR is
- 8:25in big talks. Listen to this.
- 8:28Another St. course. Remember 2 days ago we talked
- 8:31about the street course in San Diego.
- 8:34Now NASCAR is talking about a street course 2 hours from
- 8:38Pocono in Philadelphia. You say to yourself, what the
- 8:44hell is going on and why? I think, I think Mark Martin and
- 8:48my conversation has come at the right time.
- 8:52You're getting ready to see NASCAR like you've never seen it
- 8:55in your life. If you want to jump off the boat
- 8:58right now, now is the time because NASCAR's going to look
- 9:04way different. But now I don't want you all to
- 9:07get depressed because, you know, Martinsville still here.
- 9:12We brought back Wilkesboro, we brought back Rockingham.
- 9:15So, so think about it, everybody think about it.
- 9:18We bought, we brought back Rockingham, we brought back
- 9:22Wilkesboro. So NASCAR is keeping its
- 9:25heritage. Let's be clear.
- 9:27NASCAR is keeping its heritage. But NASCAR sees value, they
- 9:32said. They said the next time we ever
- 9:35build a racetrack, it's going to be in the city with developers
- 9:39and development. Basically, NASCAR said if we
- 9:43ever build another new racetrack, it's going to be in
- 9:46an area where there's stuff going on with a developer.
- 9:50We're not going to do it by ourselves.
- 9:52All right, everybody, I think I think I've explained myself with
- 9:55Mark Martin. It's coming out today.
- 9:57It's going to be one of those deals where you don't listen for
- 9:5920 minutes and shut it off. This is a deal where you're
- 10:02going to listen to it the whole way through.
- 10:04Mark Martin, like you've never heard him before.
- 10:08I help him with receipts. I bring the receipts.
- 10:11Mark Martin will say something and then I'll say, yeah, this is
- 10:14the receipts. And it's it's really, really
- 10:17good. So Mark Martin, for all you old
- 10:21people, I love you. All right, everybody respond
- 10:27right here and have a great Thursday.
