- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Every writer has felt like this at one time or another.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: You're chugging along with your content and things are going smoothly, the ideas are flowing and you're feeling great.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Then it happens.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: You hit the wall, the creative juices dry up, and you sit there wondering, where in the world do I go from here?
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Well, honestly, it happens to the best of us, even to the very best of us, like Ernest Hemingway.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: What did he do when he was feeling blocked?
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Well, this is what he said.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: There's no rule on how to write.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it comes easily and perfectly.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's like drilling rock and then blasting it out with charges.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Now you can draw your own conclusions about exactly what he meant by the rock and blasting, and with Ernest Hemingway, who really knows?
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: But here are some things you can do when you're creatively blocked, taking some inspiration from Mr.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Hemingway.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Option number one is to get up and walk around.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Scientific studies have shown the connection between creativity and exercise.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: The simple act of changing your scenery and getting your blood flowing has amazing benefits for your creative brain.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Option number two is take a break.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: We writers can be workaholics, never stopping for hours on end.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: So give your mind a break and then come back to your work later.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Let your subconscious mind work and solve the problem on your behalf.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: And option number three is to work on something else.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: You know, the cross-pollination of ideas between projects can help break down those creative barriers.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: So the next time you're feeling creatively blocked, don't just sit there and stare at the screen and stew in your own anxiety.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Be proactive and start drilling and blasting and doing something.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: If it worked for Ernest Hemingway, it's probably going to work for me and you as well.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: So here's today's challenge.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: The next time you feel blocked or frustrated, choose one of the three options that I just mentioned.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Hey, my friend, as always, thanks for listening, and I'll see you next time.
