- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to this episode of the Daily Writer Podcast.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: As a writer, you have to do things sometimes that make you uncomfortable.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Those things might be networking, public speaking, learning self-publishing, joining a writing group, or a hundred other things that seem new and exciting, yet they can still make you feel a little bit anxious or scared.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: The business leader and author Michael Hyatt said, the most interesting things happen just on the other side of your comfort zone.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: And I think we can all agree that that's true.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: But how do you step outside your comfort zone when it feels, well, when it feels kind of uncomfortable?
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: How do you embrace the fear?
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: When I was in high school, I was really involved in our school stage plays.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: And when you're an actor, you embrace the idea that you're becoming another person.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: You put on a costume and you magically take on that person's identity.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: And this can also work in trying to move past your fear.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: So the next time you have to do something that makes you feel uncomfortable, try doing this.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Play a version of yourself who's brave.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: I know it sounds crazy, but it kind of works.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: So think of yourself as an actor who is bravely facing their fear.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Now, the wonderful thing about stage drama is that you can become just about anybody.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: In the blink of an eye, you can play a version of yourself who's brave and who faces challenges head on, who doesn't shrink back from things that might scare them.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: So imagine you were on a stage with the spotlight shining down at you, and you're doing exactly what you're doing right now, except you're playing a fearless version of yourself.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: How do you speak?
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: What do you do?
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: What obstacles are you going to overcome?
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Now I know all this sounds kind of crazy, but it's true.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: When you pretend that you're a brave version of yourself, it's a fun and effective way to demolish fear and get on the other side of your comfort zone.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Here's your daily question think of a scary situation you're facing right now.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: What does the fearless version of yourself look like, sound like, and do?
