Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Previously on The Relatables Baddi's book Club.
- 0:02Speaker 2: I think what all these novellas are alluding to is
- 0:05Speaker 2: that Arabin is the reason she's in Endovia.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Ah. My only prediction that I want to predict something
- 0:12Speaker 1: about is her and Sam's relationship. How How do they
- 0:19Speaker 1: fall in love but don't have sex? That's all I
- 0:22Speaker 1: want to know.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Welcome to Relatables Baddie's book Club, where we will embark
- 0:28Speaker 2: on a journey reading some of the finest pieces of
- 0:31Speaker 2: literature you have ever laid eyes or is if.
- 0:33Speaker 1: That's your preferred way to consume a book.
- 0:35Speaker 2: On Assassin's Blade, The Assassin and the Desert.
- 0:42Speaker 1: The Desert. Yeah, so we're here, We're making our way
- 0:47Speaker 1: through the novella. Yeah, I mean, don't get a novella?
- 0:51Speaker 1: Sounds like a pasta novella. Yeah, noveda could have some
- 0:55Speaker 1: novella with a side of garlic bread. Sounds to me
- 0:58Speaker 1: like it could be a dessert.
- 0:59Speaker 2: You're going to say, there's ease he's riddled with novedad.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Could I please get a novella? I could see it
- 1:07Speaker 1: as like a chicky little chocolate cake with like some
- 1:09Speaker 1: cherry in the middle of some sort of lava cake
- 1:11Speaker 1: or something. Yeah, yeah, that's enough talking about food. But yeah,
- 1:15Speaker 1: what do we think it's so far? Look, I'm okay
- 1:21Speaker 1: with it. Yeah, I'm okay too. I'm glad we've read
- 1:24Speaker 1: it or reading it a lot of bad it's not no, no,
- 1:31Speaker 1: I don't. Surely it's not anyone's favorite book in the
- 1:33Speaker 1: series so far. Yeah. I saw a lot of comments
- 1:36Speaker 1: saying like, I don't know how anyone could say you
- 1:38Speaker 1: don't need to read this book. So I am glad
- 1:40Speaker 1: we're reading it.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Oh, yes, same, No, definitely if it's there, it's obviously
- 1:44Speaker 2: meant to be read.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Yeah, but like it also like kind of isn't what
- 1:48Speaker 1: I thought it would be. I thought there would be
- 1:50Speaker 1: a lot more depth to it. It's more of like
- 1:54Speaker 1: everyone kept saying, like, remember when I said, like Sarah J.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Mass went back and said this would be good to
- 2:01Speaker 1: add because it was written after Yeah, everyone's like Seratomas
- 2:04Speaker 1: does everything for a reason, Like there's a reason, that's
- 2:06Speaker 1: the way, this is the way it's written. Who told you?
- 2:09Speaker 1: I don't.
- 2:10Speaker 2: The comments I'm asking the bad Is it a comment
- 2:13Speaker 2: in that like did she literally tell you that? Or
- 2:15Speaker 2: you guys all just like gaslating yourselves into thinking that because.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Also, like as an author, if I was an author
- 2:21Speaker 1: and like say I made a million dollars a book
- 2:23Speaker 1: and then someone's like, you know, if you could probably
- 2:25Speaker 1: do want like a novella to start and make another
- 2:28Speaker 1: million dollars, I'd be like, fucking oath, I can. Let's
- 2:30Speaker 1: write that ship. Let's just give a bit of backstory,
- 2:33Speaker 1: give me three months. Yeah, I don't know what to
- 2:38Speaker 1: talk about a pirate, so I forgot what the middle
- 2:41Speaker 1: one was a bar made and a desert.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Yeah, well people do say that a lot of the
- 2:47Speaker 2: side characters in the latest later in the series, some
- 2:51Speaker 2: of them come from this book. Yeah, so it's nice
- 2:57Speaker 2: to know.
- 2:57Speaker 1: But I think part of me is kind of like I.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Think it's like I don't like knowing that she's going
- 3:07Speaker 2: to end up in Indophia, if that makes sense, Like
- 3:10Speaker 2: I assume that the end of this book is her
- 3:12Speaker 2: getting caught.
- 3:14Speaker 1: And Sam getting killed. Like that's just this an assumption
- 3:17Speaker 1: I'm making.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I don't know if it is or not, but it's
- 3:19Speaker 2: it's leading that way for me, And I don't know
- 3:21Speaker 2: if I like knowing that, because like what they're doing
- 3:23Speaker 2: is even though I think Selene is like super cocky
- 3:26Speaker 2: and arrogant. I do like her, and then same as Sam,
- 3:29Speaker 2: like it's annoying me that I'm you know, reading and
- 3:33Speaker 2: I'm like going through her falling in love with him
- 3:36Speaker 2: and come in to terms with the fact that she
- 3:38Speaker 2: likes him and it's going to end up just like
- 3:41Speaker 2: him dying.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Like I don't know if I like feeling that I
- 3:44Speaker 1: agree to it, and like, I guess because we know
- 3:46Speaker 1: what's going to happen is taking away from the enjoyment slightly. Yeah,
- 3:52Speaker 1: it's also like it's a non fans it's a bit
- 3:54Speaker 1: of a ship book. So like I'm glad we read
- 3:56Speaker 1: it in the way we did. Yeah, yeah, Like.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I still don't know what makes it good and a
- 4:03Speaker 2: bad book, Like because if we read this first, you
- 4:06Speaker 2: and I would have fucking been like, this is the
- 4:08Speaker 2: most boring book I know.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I reckon I would have I think I would have
- 4:12Speaker 1: liked reading it first.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Actually, so I don't mind the way we've done it, right,
- 4:16Speaker 2: I know, I like to be a purist, like we
- 4:19Speaker 2: spoke and read is the way that they But so
- 4:25Speaker 2: I've had thoughts while reading this of like I think
- 4:28Speaker 2: I would enjoy it more if I didn't know what
- 4:31Speaker 2: was going to happen, Yeah, and then read reading Throne
- 4:34Speaker 2: of Glass would almost be like, I don't even know
- 4:39Speaker 2: how to explain it, kind of like you're.
- 4:43Speaker 1: In the know.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like you're inside the inside joke or whatever.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I don't know what made us do it the way
- 4:50Speaker 2: we did it. Again, you said, yeah, I got recommend
- 4:53Speaker 2: it from baddies. So there was a lot offer. Some
- 4:56Speaker 2: people said read it first, some people said read it
- 4:58Speaker 2: like here, some people said you don't need to read
- 5:00Speaker 2: it and then, but the most overwhelming advice was read
- 5:03Speaker 2: it third. So I thought I'll go with the majority. Okay, yeah,
- 5:06Speaker 2: a majority of rules when we have a podcast, But.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I think I would.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Probably recommend someone if they're reading a series to read
- 5:13Speaker 2: it this one first.
- 5:15Speaker 1: That's one thing I've learned a long hour VERA. You're
- 5:19Speaker 1: not as much me. I'm more so a novice. Is
- 5:22Speaker 1: I suppose this is a good tip actually, just going
- 5:24Speaker 1: through life. Don't let other people's opinions change what you
- 5:28Speaker 1: think is right. Yeah, because we everyone was like the
- 5:32Speaker 1: same with forthing and stuff. Everyone's like it's like the
- 5:34Speaker 1: the best thing everybody. We all love it. Guys, it
- 5:36Speaker 1: would be so good, and they're not in my They're
- 5:38Speaker 1: not in my brain, so they don't know exactly.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Anyway. Shall we get into the recap? Yes, yes, yes,
- 5:45Speaker 2: let's do it. We're recapping every chapter, thoughts and theories
- 5:52Speaker 2: to every plan.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Twist will break it down for you, okay.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Chapter one Selena right the silent assassin's desert fortress, sent
- 6:02Speaker 2: by Arabin as punishment for freeing slaves on a botched
- 6:05Speaker 2: mission with Sam. She endos a brutal two mile trek
- 6:07Speaker 2: to reach the Oasis stronghold, then meets the Mute Master,
- 6:11Speaker 2: a silent testing figure who inspects all her old bruises
- 6:14Speaker 2: before demanding she proved herself. The chapter ends as he
- 6:17Speaker 2: signals four men.
- 6:18Speaker 1: To attack her.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Chapter two, Selena passes the Master's combat combat test, defeeding
- 6:25Speaker 2: four attackers. She's paired with Ansel, a wealthy, wise cracking
- 6:29Speaker 2: assassin in training who's oddly still untrained by the Master
- 6:32Speaker 2: five years in. They bond a little on the way
- 6:36Speaker 2: to the baths, Angel, probing about her bruises and kill count. Alone,
- 6:39Speaker 2: Selena reflects on missing Sam. The chapter closes on a
- 6:43Speaker 2: flashback Arabin beating her severely while forcing Sam to watch
- 6:46Speaker 2: as punishment for freeing the slaves. So Arabin's a fucking
- 6:51Speaker 2: dang bruh.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Chapter three.
- 6:54Speaker 2: At dinner, Selena meets more assassins. We've got Mikhail, who's
- 6:56Speaker 2: Ansel's secret boyfriend, and Ilias the Master, the mute Master's
- 7:01Speaker 2: attractive son who she loves. This sog about how sexy
- 7:05Speaker 2: is eh. She learns that the fortress's local enemy is
- 7:09Speaker 2: Lord Barrick, and that assassins can be bid for by
- 7:12Speaker 2: foreign courts. When Michael asks if she deserved her beating,
- 7:15Speaker 2: she admits she did by Arabin standards, but not by
- 7:18Speaker 2: the slaves she freed. Ansel then makes her run a
- 7:21Speaker 2: brutal six mile desert trek as informal training. Selena struggles
- 7:26Speaker 2: badly and returns humbled. She tries to formally request the
- 7:28Speaker 2: master's training, but he gestures that she must wait. Ilius
- 7:32Speaker 2: intervenes when she almost follows the master, and they share
- 7:35Speaker 2: a warm introduction. That night, Ansel reveals her secret relationship
- 7:38Speaker 2: with Mikhale while Selena lies awake, missing Sam. Chapter four,
- 7:44Speaker 2: Selena keeps training with Ansel, noticing the silent assassins are
- 7:47Speaker 2: far more collaborative than Arabin's cutthroat guilt.
- 7:50Speaker 1: On her fifth night Lord.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Barrick, so Lord Barrack's soldiers ambush the fortress. Selena joins
- 7:55Speaker 2: the defense, helping ignite an oil trap ring of fire
- 7:59Speaker 2: that routes the attack without bloodshed. So afterward, Macau delivers
- 8:03Speaker 2: orders Angel must travel to Xandria to deliver a message
- 8:06Speaker 2: to Barrack. Selena decides to go with her, hoping the
- 8:08Speaker 2: mission will prove her worth to the Master. Chapter five,
- 8:12Speaker 2: On the Desert Journey, Anzel shares a chilling, blood sorry
- 8:16Speaker 2: chilling childhood story about a witch abducting her friend, setting
- 8:19Speaker 2: up arm the Iron Teeth Clan threat as real and
- 8:22Speaker 2: dangerous in Xandria. Answer disappears alone into Barrack's palace in
- 8:27Speaker 2: secret Master's business in quotes, leaving Slena to shop the Souk,
- 8:32Speaker 2: which is the markets. She there meets a mysterious merchant
- 8:35Speaker 2: selling priceless spider Silk, who traded twenty years of his
- 8:38Speaker 2: life for it.
- 8:39Speaker 1: He gives her a valuable scrap as.
- 8:40Speaker 2: A reminder that everything has a price after she cryptically
- 8:44Speaker 2: tells him to seek out Arabin. When Ansel resurfaces, agitated
- 8:49Speaker 2: and secretive about her meeting, she drags Selena into Barrack's stables,
- 8:53Speaker 2: where they steal two priceless Asterian horses and bolt. So
- 8:57Speaker 2: remember when Kao gets gifted at a stay mayor, yes,
- 9:01Speaker 2: and or is it a mayor anyway? An Asterian horse
- 9:06Speaker 2: and she and then that's when Elena's sorry. That's when
- 9:09Speaker 2: fucking Selena's like, yeah, yeah, yeah, I used to have one.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I stole it from someone from the desert.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I remember.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Chapter six, Asel and Slena make wild, dangerous escape from
- 9:19Speaker 2: barracks guards on the stolen horses, including a death defying
- 9:22Speaker 2: jump across a canyon ravine. Once safe, Selena punches Ansel
- 9:26Speaker 2: for the reckless stunt. Then they camp for the night
- 9:28Speaker 2: under the stars. Ansel reveals her whole backstory was a lie.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Her family and home are from Briercliffe, were destroyed years
- 9:35Speaker 2: ago by a tyrant Lord Locke, who slaughtered her father
- 9:39Speaker 2: and sister. Why Ansel hid helplessly She's been training in
- 9:43Speaker 2: secret ever since.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Driven by a vow refrange with her.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Father's sword, Selena moved. Selena moved, and, grieving in her
- 9:51Speaker 2: own way, promises they'll make the men responsible pay.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Chapter seven.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Back at the Fortress, Selena and Ansel face the Master
- 9:59Speaker 2: over the stolen horse. Rather than punishing them harshly, he swayed,
- 10:03Speaker 2: especially after Selena takes the blame the assassin's light or
- 10:08Speaker 2: sorry and assigns light stable duty. He finally agrees to
- 10:12Speaker 2: train Selena, starting the next evening. Her first lesson isn't
- 10:17Speaker 2: combat but observation, studying an asp, which is a snake,
- 10:20Speaker 2: then bats, jack, rabbits, and crabs, learning to move and
- 10:24Speaker 2: think like each creature weeks past. In this rhythm, training
- 10:28Speaker 2: distance from Ansel, who grows strangely gleeful. No further attacks
- 10:32Speaker 2: from Barrack, while Selena quietly wrestles with the theory sorry
- 10:35Speaker 2: with the memory of Sam vowing to kill arabin Oooh.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Chapter eight, at the Midsummary Festival, Selena and Ansel bondover
- 10:44Speaker 2: cosmetics and dancing in the silent musicless celebration. Ilias dances
- 10:50Speaker 2: with Selena all night and tries to kiss her, but
- 10:54Speaker 2: she pulls back, not because a relationship is impossible, but
- 10:57Speaker 2: because she still hung up on Sam. Anne disappears with
- 11:00Speaker 2: Michael the next morning. Playful teasing turns sour wa Ansel
- 11:05Speaker 2: reveals bitter jealousy that the Master trains Selena, but not her,
- 11:08Speaker 2: and that she only gets attention through Michael. Selena lashes
- 11:12Speaker 2: out cruelly, telling Ansel no one will ever care about
- 11:15Speaker 2: her revenge quest. Ansel wounded so he wounded, calls her
- 11:19Speaker 2: a spoilt, selfish bitch, and storms their friendship, badly damaged
- 11:24Speaker 2: who Chapter nine, Selena, distracted by guilt over the fight,
- 11:29Speaker 2: finally opens up to the Master, confessing her fear of
- 11:32Speaker 2: returning home and how everything changed after Arabin's punishment. Later,
- 11:35Speaker 2: Angel and Selena reconcile, with Ansel, calling her a true
- 11:39Speaker 2: friend she'll miss, but that night, sharing wine to make amends,
- 11:43Speaker 2: Selena notices the drink tastes off right before she blacks out,
- 11:46Speaker 2: poisoned by Ansel. Chapter ten, Selena wakes up drugged and
- 11:50Speaker 2: abandoned in the desert with a fake note from Ansel,
- 11:53Speaker 2: claiming the Master sent her away with a letter of approval.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Writing towards Andrea, she spots two hundred of Barrack's soldiers
- 12:00Speaker 2: marching on the Assassin's fortress in the city, doubts creep
- 12:03Speaker 2: in why would the peace loving Master banish her and
- 12:06Speaker 2: not warn the others. When she finally opens a letter
- 12:09Speaker 2: of approval, it's blank sealed with what must be a
- 12:12Speaker 2: stolen signet ring. She realizes Ansel has betrayed everyone, likely
- 12:17Speaker 2: as Barrack's spy all along, and that the fortress is
- 12:20Speaker 2: walking into an ambush. Determined, Selena turns her horse around
- 12:24Speaker 2: and races back to warn them. Chapter eleven, Selena races
- 12:27Speaker 2: back to the fortress under siege and finds carnage everywhere.
- 12:30Speaker 2: She reaches the master's chamber to find Mikhail dead, Ilias
- 12:33Speaker 2: bleeding out, and Ansel standing over the drugged, paralyzed Master
- 12:37Speaker 2: with sword raised for the killing blow. Selena disarms her
- 12:40Speaker 2: with a thrown dagger, and the two fight brutally. Ansel
- 12:43Speaker 2: reveals she orchestrated the whole betrayal for Barrack's promised army
- 12:46Speaker 2: to reclaim the flat lands, even offering Selena a place
- 12:50Speaker 2: beside her as conquerra. Selena refuses. They fight again, and
- 12:53Speaker 2: she ultimately overpowers Ansel, but can't bring herself to kill her,
- 12:56Speaker 2: undone by her real sorry undone by her real friendship,
- 12:59Speaker 2: and Ansel's admission that leaving Selena in the desert had
- 13:02Speaker 2: been a genuine act of mercy. Instead, she lets Ansel
- 13:05Speaker 2: go with a warning and her father's sword, and Ansel
- 13:08Speaker 2: flees the fortress as the assassins reclaim victory. Chapter twelve,
- 13:12Speaker 2: Ilias survives, and the poison is confirmed as Gloriela enough
- 13:17Speaker 2: to paralyze, not to kill, since Ansel wanted the Master
- 13:20Speaker 2: conscious for his bearding true to her word, Ansel sorry,
- 13:23Speaker 2: Selena fires a single warning arrow at fleeing Ansel, deliberately
- 13:28Speaker 2: missing since she'd promised her a twenty minute head start.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Twenty of the fortress's assassins died in the attack, though
- 13:35Speaker 2: all two hundred of Barrack's soldiers were killed. The next
- 13:38Speaker 2: morning the re the Master reveals his note about Ansel's
- 13:41Speaker 2: tragic past four years and chose not to expose her,
- 13:44Speaker 2: hoping she'd learned to face her pain rather than let
- 13:46Speaker 2: it curdle into hatred. He believes Angela genuinely cared for Selena,
- 13:49Speaker 2: evidenced by sparring her in the desert and no sparing
- 13:54Speaker 2: her in the desert sorry, and that sparing Ansel's life
- 13:57Speaker 2: in return may leave a lasting humanizing mark on her.
- 14:00Speaker 2: He gives Selena the true letter of approval, plus a
- 14:02Speaker 2: trunk of gold and as thanks for saving his and
- 14:04Speaker 2: Ilias's life and asks her to tell Arabin that Disciples
- 14:09Speaker 2: aren't abused in the Red Desert. As she prepares to
- 14:11Speaker 2: leave for home, Selena finally feels ready to face rift
- 14:14Speaker 2: Hold again.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Rift Holt. Yeah again, no longer afraidfld rift Hold, rift Hold.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Look, it was entertaining, it was cool, it was cool,
- 14:23Speaker 2: it's cool.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Interesting. This is the Okay, this is the best one.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I think this is the best one so far. As well.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I want to say, did you get this as well?
- 14:33Speaker 2: I don't know if you if we were meant to
- 14:34Speaker 2: get it at this point, but I think we were.
- 14:37Speaker 1: When they went.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Into the town of Xandria and Hansel goes to speak
- 14:42Speaker 2: to Lord Barrick and doesn't let Selena come, I was like, oh,
- 14:45Speaker 2: answers the villain.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I knew from that. I was like, yeah,
- 14:49Speaker 1: I didn't. I Nah, I didn't pick up on that.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Oh I knew from that. I was like, yes, she's
- 14:53Speaker 1: a villain, obviously, Nah, nah, I didn't pick up on that.
- 14:57Speaker 1: These are I listened to all of these once again,
- 14:58Speaker 1: there's are very jagged for me. So that all brought
- 15:00Speaker 1: it back, which is good for me as well, because
- 15:02Speaker 1: in the background, Jake and I have been doing a
- 15:04Speaker 1: lot of random stuff.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Yeah, we've been living We've been living a busy life,
- 15:10Speaker 2: yeah we have.
- 15:11Speaker 1: But firstly, good reading, mate, you got into that one.
- 15:15Speaker 1: You must have enjoyed the chapters. You have a fucking
- 15:16Speaker 1: couple of accents going on here or there.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I don't know what I.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Just did it.
- 15:19Speaker 2: I just was thinking, like, fuck, these are kind of long,
- 15:21Speaker 2: I need to rush.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Was trying to make it entertaining me. Did you screenshot
- 15:25Speaker 1: Kindle again? Is that he did it? The Kindle pages? Yeah? Mate? Business.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I know we talk about business on the main episodes,
- 15:31Speaker 1: but there's no chapter summaries for this book. You could
- 15:35Speaker 1: do them. I've got them all with the help of
- 15:41Speaker 1: claud Yeah. Yeah, yeah. What I did was.
- 15:46Speaker 2: I went on so I went on the Kindle up
- 15:47Speaker 2: on my phone and I made the writing as small
- 15:49Speaker 2: as possible so it was less pages to screenshot. Ended
- 15:53Speaker 2: up being sixty six pages or something.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Still, but still yeah, yeah, this was the big the
- 15:57Speaker 1: longest chapters for sure. But no, that was good and
- 16:00Speaker 1: I also, I guess we got to see once again
- 16:02Speaker 1: Solanna's character skill once again, which was kind of cool.
- 16:08Speaker 1: And then also there was a bit where she was
- 16:11Speaker 1: like didn't want to show her cards. I guess of
- 16:14Speaker 1: how good she was to the master or like respected,
- 16:16Speaker 1: how good he was. I guess as well. You know
- 16:20Speaker 1: how she's been like a teenage brat for the first two. Yeah,
- 16:24Speaker 1: I feel like this one she was more. She still
- 16:26Speaker 1: was a little bit, but she was it's kind of
- 16:28Speaker 1: changing to I assume where the mindset is. By the
- 16:30Speaker 1: end of it, she's more like open and honest about
- 16:34Speaker 1: who she is. She's not just fucking stuck up and confident. Yeah.
- 16:37Speaker 1: I could kind of sense that feeling in this one
- 16:39Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm here. She definitely was getting a little more humble. Yeah, yeah,
- 16:44Speaker 2: humble is the word. She was getting slightly more humble,
- 16:47Speaker 2: And I think she was just humbled by the desert
- 16:50Speaker 2: in general. True, but a lot of character development happened
- 16:53Speaker 2: in this this So she was there for like basically,
- 16:56Speaker 2: I think it's like a three month ordeal. So she
- 17:00Speaker 2: traveled for like a month out there. She was there
- 17:03Speaker 2: for a month, and then she's gonna have to travel
- 17:05Speaker 2: a month home.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I was picturing, like for the desert. You haven't watched
- 17:10Speaker 1: the Book of Boba Fett, but it's into Mandalorian too.
- 17:14Speaker 1: You know when Mandalorian like meets Boba Fett in like
- 17:17Speaker 1: those deserted desert towns, and then there's just like one
- 17:19Speaker 1: western kind of like building. That was what I was picturing,
- 17:23Speaker 1: like Star Wars desert. Wait, that's that's what you're.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Picturing as the silent assassins, Like yeah, fortress. Yeah, oh really,
- 17:33Speaker 2: I was picturing like I was picturing just I guess
- 17:38Speaker 2: as as they'd written it. Like I was picturing proper desert, right,
- 17:41Speaker 2: just sand dunes on sand dunes as far as I
- 17:44Speaker 2: could see, and then randomly, just like at the base
- 17:48Speaker 2: of one of the sand dunes, there was just like
- 17:51Speaker 2: this random big ass fortress kind of like sort of
- 17:57Speaker 2: think winter Fell from Game of Thrones. Yeah, yeah, so
- 18:01Speaker 2: sort of like that. And then for some reason there.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Was just creaks and ship running through it. Yeah, they
- 18:07Speaker 1: had water for some Now I feel like we've deserts too.
- 18:11Speaker 1: I always think of Mirage as in that too.
- 18:13Speaker 2: And then like that it's called like an oasis or
- 18:15Speaker 2: some shit, and and so they ran to another oasis. Okay,
- 18:19Speaker 2: but he like, what I want to know is, so
- 18:25Speaker 2: the purpose of this was for a bit of character development, right,
- 18:28Speaker 2: and she made mentions so In Crown of Midnight, she
- 18:32Speaker 2: made a mention of, like, you know, I used to
- 18:34Speaker 2: have an Asterian horse and I stole it from some
- 18:36Speaker 2: lord in fucking the you know, desert. But other than that,
- 18:42Speaker 2: it's like the only other reason I could think that
- 18:46Speaker 2: this story is in here, apart from maybe, like I
- 18:52Speaker 2: said before, a bit of character development, is the fact
- 18:55Speaker 2: that Anzil will show up later in the series, or
- 19:02Speaker 2: the Silent Assassins will show up later in the series.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Like she's going to go ask for their aid or
- 19:06Speaker 2: some ship, and like the Ilius will come help and
- 19:10Speaker 2: maybe maybe Ilius. So she's obviously quite fond of Ilius, right, yeah,
- 19:17Speaker 2: And Dorian and Kay are going to be like, who's
- 19:20Speaker 2: this fucking guy.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Like this, I don't think in this book Dorian and
- 19:25Speaker 1: Caw will have like dialogue, not in this in this
- 19:28Speaker 1: series someone in the series they're gonna call on the
- 19:31Speaker 1: aid of this assassins. But like, here's the thing as well,
- 19:34Speaker 1: It's like to me, so what we're so I think
- 19:37Speaker 1: the next book after this is Air of Fire, yep.
- 19:40Speaker 1: And what she's going to go do is she she's
- 19:42Speaker 1: been sent off to like the Land of the fucking Elves,
- 19:45Speaker 1: where Elves no no Elves Fay where Fay still exists.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Sorry, I'm watching I'm watching Lord of the Rings. I'm
- 19:50Speaker 2: thinking else sorry, where Fay still exists. They are similar,
- 19:52Speaker 2: to be fair, and it's like kind of I'm thinking, like,
- 19:58Speaker 2: that's such a big story line for her going to
- 20:01Speaker 2: like uncover her past that's even further back than this
- 20:05Speaker 2: past that we're reading right now, Like I feel like
- 20:07Speaker 2: it's so fucking wild what we're about to go through.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Sow how like how could like that's so much more
- 20:14Speaker 2: interesting to me about what we're about to read an Aerifire,
- 20:17Speaker 2: Like she's gonna go fucking find her kin.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Maybe this is actually what's happened. So Sarah J. Maass
- 20:22Speaker 1: wrote all the books, say Aerifire has what you're talking
- 20:25Speaker 1: about in it, and then once it was written, someone's like,
- 20:30Speaker 1: where the fuck did the some assassin's come from? Like
- 20:32Speaker 1: that doesn't make any sense? And then you didn't know
- 20:34Speaker 1: about them? Yeah, and then she's like, oh, like in
- 20:36Speaker 1: my head, I kind of like thought it didn't really matter,
- 20:38Speaker 1: but like I'll go back and tell you why it
- 20:40Speaker 1: makes sense. Yeah, true, true, Like that for all the rebuttals,
- 20:44Speaker 1: so they might be even like throughout the series, even
- 20:46Speaker 1: more books, and then like something to do with the pirate, yeah,
- 20:50Speaker 1: and then something to do with that that girl who
- 20:51Speaker 1: wanted to be like a healer or whatever, and maybe
- 20:53Speaker 1: she comes through too in a different time.
- 20:54Speaker 2: I'm so confident she's coming back. And so what I
- 20:59Speaker 2: think is going to happen is I think that we're
- 21:03Speaker 2: going to eventually see magic restored to the lands to
- 21:11Speaker 2: a degree.
- 21:12Speaker 1: That's a fucking prediction. Let's get into it, oh, ship predictions,
- 21:16Speaker 1: lots of fear less predictions to one of the fictional men,
- 21:20Speaker 1: like we always do. We're gonna be and streaming again.
- 21:27Speaker 1: This is the Relatables Book Club. Let the throw and
- 21:30Speaker 1: the docks begin.
- 21:31Speaker 2: So I think I'm gonna I think what we're gonna have.
- 21:33Speaker 2: We're going to see magic restored to the land of
- 21:38Speaker 2: a realia to a degree, like not flee, but to
- 21:41Speaker 2: a degree.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:42Speaker 2: And and we're going to see like the Healer come back,
- 21:46Speaker 2: I forget her name, and we're going to see some
- 21:50Speaker 2: fucking shit go down.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Okay, so you reckon magic will come back. At this
- 21:55Speaker 1: point of time, magic still banned. Yeah it is, Okay,
- 22:02Speaker 1: I kind of see that too. I'm wondering, like, so
- 22:06Speaker 1: we're finding out about her character. I want a prediction
- 22:08Speaker 1: of like I said it, I think in the first
- 22:10Speaker 1: episode where like something's got to happen where she's like,
- 22:15Speaker 1: she goes, where did that like come out of me?
- 22:17Speaker 1: Like why did that just happen? And nothing makes sense?
- 22:20Speaker 1: But we know it's because she has magic heritage. Nah,
- 22:24Speaker 1: he's a thing.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Though, It's like it's implied that she knows all along.
- 22:28Speaker 1: But if it's why didn't I don't know. That doesn't
- 22:31Speaker 1: comprehend to me. I feel like, how can you know
- 22:33Speaker 1: all along and not do anything about it? Though? Because
- 22:36Speaker 1: magic is illegal and she also doesn't like her so
- 22:39Speaker 1: so but if I told you you could fly and
- 22:42Speaker 1: you're like, I know, but like it's illegal. No, no, no,
- 22:44Speaker 1: she can't fly. Yeah no, but that's just like say,
- 22:46Speaker 1: a magical power, like if you like and so she okay.
- 22:49Speaker 2: So in Throne of Glass near the beginning, when she
- 22:54Speaker 2: gets taken to rift Hole, yeah yeah right, they're staying
- 22:59Speaker 2: in the forest and she has some inner monologue dialogue
- 23:03Speaker 2: moment or whatever how she remembers using magic like over
- 23:07Speaker 2: ten years ago, just before it all got banned, right,
- 23:10Speaker 2: And then we don't hear much about it until again,
- 23:17Speaker 2: so you ever, don't hear much about it yet until
- 23:18Speaker 2: Crown of Midnight when she turns into a fucking fairy
- 23:25Speaker 2: in that when she goes through that portal, because whatever
- 23:28Speaker 2: world she went to, magic has not been banned, like
- 23:31Speaker 2: the king is the one suppressing the magic. So when
- 23:34Speaker 2: she's like, so she knows. Basically what we know as
- 23:38Speaker 2: well is that Selena can shift from human to fairy
- 23:41Speaker 2: when magic is not banned. But magic isn't banned, like
- 23:44Speaker 2: the King actually has made it so magic it can't
- 23:46Speaker 2: be used suppressed, so it's just fully suppressed. So like
- 23:50Speaker 2: she knows, and she she would if she could, but
- 23:54Speaker 2: she can't.
- 23:55Speaker 1: She physically can't.
- 23:55Speaker 2: That's why she shifted back into a human as soon
- 23:57Speaker 2: as she came back into the fucking so.
- 23:59Speaker 1: It's out of her control. That's what I'm having trouble
- 24:01Speaker 1: wrapping my head around a little bit.
- 24:03Speaker 2: It.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Okay, that makes sense, all right? When you were saying that,
- 24:07Speaker 1: do you reckon? Remember I think it was throwing a glass.
- 24:09Speaker 1: How there was that weird mention of was it gnomes?
- 24:14Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, this is around the same time. Yeah,
- 24:16Speaker 1: gnomes in the forest. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I reckon, Yeah,
- 24:20Speaker 1: that's directly that might be in this little story and
- 24:22Speaker 1: like the last novella or something. I feel like we
- 24:26Speaker 1: both said.
- 24:27Speaker 2: That was a weird mentioned oh yeah, mentioning subtle foreshadowing
- 24:31Speaker 2: the fucking Gnomes then.
- 24:32Speaker 1: And like that they might play a part too, because
- 24:34Speaker 1: they're going to see Faye Gnomes do something.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Faye used to own that forest or some ship or
- 24:40Speaker 2: just like rule that forest.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Yeah, they couldn't be in the next book. What's the
- 24:43Speaker 1: next one called? I didn't look Air of Fire? No,
- 24:45Speaker 1: the next story in this.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Ah the Assassin and the Underworld.
- 24:50Speaker 1: The Underworld. That's kind of cool. Okay, predictions I don't
- 24:54Speaker 1: really I feel like because we've done like this book
- 24:56Speaker 1: doesn't really tell you much, and we've done our predictions,
- 24:58Speaker 1: I don't really have much n nothing's.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Changing, and the predictions we can make is also does
- 25:04Speaker 2: what I say.
- 25:05Speaker 1: We can predict that world.
- 25:06Speaker 2: I guess the baddies fucking love our predictions.
- 25:09Speaker 1: You hit no because I edit all these and you
- 25:11Speaker 1: fucking hit the nail on the head for one of them.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, you fucking like literally, And then when I
- 25:16Speaker 1: edited the next episode and I was like, this guy
- 25:18Speaker 1: just fucking did he read ahead? And I was like,
- 25:19Speaker 1: this guy, haven't. Yeah, I just like thought, this is
- 25:22Speaker 1: what it should be, like literally described like scene for
- 25:26Speaker 1: seeing what happened and all the bad fire.
- 25:32Speaker 2: I saw another comment saying that if Sarah J. Mass
- 25:39Speaker 2: intended on you reading book six and seven tandem, I
- 25:45Speaker 2: saw this exact one written a bigger book.
- 25:50Speaker 1: I know.
- 25:50Speaker 2: I still am so I don't know what to do.
- 25:54Speaker 2: I still don't know.
- 25:55Speaker 1: I'm torn to because, like, but everyone says if you
- 25:59Speaker 1: don't and read, everyone says it's long. Yeah, and everyone
- 26:02Speaker 1: knows I don't like long. Yeah, it's a tough. I'm
- 26:05Speaker 1: thinking tandem because like some people say they've didn't read
- 26:09Speaker 1: it tandem and they regretted it. But I haven't seen
- 26:10Speaker 1: anyone say they've read it tandem and they've regretted it. True, true, True,
- 26:14Speaker 1: that's a very good observation. Yeah, I don't know, Okay,
- 26:17Speaker 1: and we'll get to that. Let's predict something to do
- 26:20Speaker 1: with the assassin in the under underworld Underground Underworld. Have
- 26:24Speaker 1: you seen that movie the Underworld? I think it's called
- 26:29Speaker 1: that's a good movie. Anyway, I reckon there's gonna be
- 26:33Speaker 1: Is it Underworld or water World. I could be getting confused.
- 26:35Speaker 1: The heaps good movie. It's famous underworld movie Underworld. It's
- 26:41Speaker 1: probably be about something. I feel like I could see
- 26:44Speaker 1: that being a movie or a movie. There's a fucking
- 26:47Speaker 1: four part series films called Underworld. Button That's not what
- 26:50Speaker 1: I was thinking. I reckon there's gonna be giant worms
- 26:54Speaker 1: that eat the ground.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Nah, I reckon.
- 27:08Speaker 1: That. She always she's going back to Riftthold. She said, yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 1: she said she was ready, So you'd think so the
- 27:13Speaker 1: next one she's going next.
- 27:15Speaker 2: I think the next one is just going to be
- 27:17Speaker 2: kind of like her. So there must be some sort
- 27:20Speaker 2: of little dilemma drama. But I think, like right now,
- 27:24Speaker 2: we're only fifty way fifty percent of the way through
- 27:26Speaker 2: the book.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Maybe like just over what do you think the underworld
- 27:29Speaker 1: has nothing to do with coming under ground? I don't
- 27:32Speaker 1: think so.
- 27:32Speaker 2: I think it's just like it could think about like
- 27:36Speaker 2: what you what we would consider the underworld, like slums
- 27:38Speaker 2: in that, so like slums in that, but also just
- 27:40Speaker 2: kind of like dealings with the black market, like assassins.
- 27:44Speaker 2: An assassin's job would be part of the underworld.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Under the soil's way cooler. But if we fucking battled
- 27:51Speaker 1: a pirate and then we went to the desert. I
- 27:53Speaker 1: wouldn't be surprised if we went underground, can that'd be cool.
- 27:56Speaker 1: That's why I said, giant worms that dug the ground
- 27:58Speaker 1: out now they're extinct or something that'd be hectic, that'd
- 28:01Speaker 1: be cool. I hit there character development and we get
- 28:04Speaker 1: from that.
- 28:04Speaker 2: But the fact that she'll be like fair and fight
- 28:07Speaker 2: a big ass worm.
- 28:09Speaker 1: What character development do we get from fucking fighting a
- 28:11Speaker 1: pirate and then freeing slaves? Slaves? Bro, Yeah, she can.
- 28:16Speaker 1: She can free some worms, get the soil nutritious. Again.
- 28:20Speaker 2: She's like, she gets someone pays it, So someone pays
- 28:23Speaker 2: her to go kill like the nest of this big
- 28:25Speaker 2: ass worm so they can't repopulate the fucking underworld.
- 28:27Speaker 1: And then she goes and she's like, but they're just babies.
- 28:29Speaker 1: I've got to save them. I wouldn't be surprised.
- 28:32Speaker 2: No.
- 28:32Speaker 1: I think it's something to do with like she has
- 28:35Speaker 1: to bring back structure to like the dirty deals going
- 28:40Speaker 1: on behind with Told or some bullshit like that. So
- 28:42Speaker 1: it's gonna be it's gonna be something like that.
- 28:43Speaker 2: And then just like I don't know, Sam will be
- 28:46Speaker 2: in there'll kill come back.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Yeah, Sam will come back. Can they start to confess
- 28:50Speaker 1: their love in this one or not?
- 28:54Speaker 2: I hope yeah yeah, if not, if not to each other,
- 28:57Speaker 2: at least in their heads.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't to each other. I think he'll be
- 29:01Speaker 1: in the heads at this point. Yeah, she'll be like
- 29:03Speaker 1: fucking damn, Sam, what that tongue do? Well, we know
- 29:09Speaker 1: that she only kisses him. Yeah, she lost it? Yeah,
- 29:14Speaker 1: what it was? That's twice now that Selene's pulled away
- 29:17Speaker 1: from kissing. Though. I know she's very young here, but
- 29:20Speaker 1: still that doesn't seem to be a defining factor in
- 29:22Speaker 1: they like women and she doesn't know it. Oh yeah,
- 29:25Speaker 1: that too, but I'm thinking like maybe too, she's just
- 29:27Speaker 1: really shy. That's why. Also she's probably not like true
- 29:30Speaker 1: and that's actually such a classic thing, Like she's so
- 29:32Speaker 1: confident in full of herself and everything else when it
- 29:35Speaker 1: comes to being an assassin and being like hottest ship,
- 29:37Speaker 1: but then when it comes to like kissing so much,
- 29:39Speaker 1: she's like, oh no, she's like wait and think she's seventeen. Yeah,
- 29:45Speaker 1: at this point in time, age in this book doesn't
- 29:48Speaker 1: seem to matter to me. Nah, I'm having struggle picturing
- 29:51Speaker 1: I've having I've had had I've struggled to picture how
- 29:53Speaker 1: old she is the whole time. Yeah, no, same here.
- 29:55Speaker 2: One last thing I want to say before he finishes
- 29:57Speaker 2: that suss thing was that Anzel was dating Michale. Michale's
- 30:02Speaker 2: twenty six and she's like, oh.
- 30:04Speaker 1: I forgot about that. She's forty eight or some shit
- 30:05Speaker 1: when they started that.
- 30:06Speaker 2: It's like twenty five and she was fourteen when they
- 30:08Speaker 2: started like sleeping together.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it's got that like background of like old England
- 30:14Speaker 1: in it. Yeah, so true.
- 30:16Speaker 2: And then Angel's kind of and Slain's kind of like, wait,
- 30:18Speaker 2: so if you're my age, if you're one year older
- 30:19Speaker 2: than me now, and Angel's this old now, that means
- 30:23Speaker 2: you guys were this age in this age when you
- 30:24Speaker 2: got together or whatever. And Ansel's like yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 30:28Speaker 2: it's like, don't worry. In the flat Lands, it was
- 30:30Speaker 2: common for a thirteen year old to be married.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I was like, I don't know what. I was like, Jesus, yeah,
- 30:35Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know what that has to
- 30:37Speaker 1: plan the book. I guess it's just like fantasy. Yeah,
- 30:40Speaker 1: true is fantasy, and also to be fair, like in
- 30:42Speaker 1: this world that happens so yeah. True, we're just like,
- 30:45Speaker 1: we're unbeknownst to it.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Yeah, so we're so removed, daddie, thank.
- 30:51Speaker 1: You for listening.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Come back next week and we will be doing The
- 30:56Speaker 2: Assassin and the Underworld.
- 30:58Speaker 1: I think it's similar chapters too, as it maybe a
- 31:00Speaker 1: few less.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's just the same amount or just
- 31:02Speaker 2: a bit less.
- 31:03Speaker 1: All right, we love you, Stay bad.
