- 0:15Kearns: Hey, welcome back to Xenomania, everybody.
- 0:21You didn't, you didn't bring the enthusiasm.
- 0:23I was hoping for John.
- 0:25That was like a Simpsons character.
- 0:26He is like, Hey,
- 0:28Ryan: Chalmers here.
- 0:31Kearns: super Nintendo Childers.
- 0:32We should change your name on, on this to that.
- 0:36For those of you who didn't hear in an earlier episode, we were talking about
- 0:39a day at work and, Ryan was dressed up in a nice suit and one of our coworker,
- 0:43we work in education just so everybody knows, and one of our coworkers
- 0:48called him Super Nintendo Chalmers.
- 0:50He yelled at across the parking lot too, which made it even better.
- 0:53Ryan: of an empty parking lot.
- 0:55Kearns: Oh, it's pretty good.
- 0:56title of Ryan's memoirs now.
- 0:58But yeah.
- 0:59Welcome to Zeno Man.
- 1:01And tonight we are talking about piranha to the,
- 1:07the deuce.
- 1:08That's what they should have called it.
- 1:10Ryan: there's two.
- 1:11Kearns: It's, it's the swarm.
- 1:12What is it?
- 1:13It's the,
- 1:13Jon: alternate.
- 1:15It's alternately the spawning or flying fish.
- 1:18Ryan: one.
- 1:19I
- 1:19Kearns: I like both for this because the spawning sounds better, but
- 1:24Ryan: So three titles.
- 1:26All right.
- 1:26Jon: Hmm.
- 1:27Ryan: That's what came up when I watched it and I was like,
- 1:30I thought it was this spawn.
- 1:31Jon: Interesting.
- 1:32Ryan: movie.
- 1:34This is the wrong one.
- 1:35Jon: I have the blu-ray, the case in the covers call it the spawning, and
- 1:40the actual video says flying fish or
- 1:44Ryan: Fish
- 1:45Jon: say flying killers.
- 1:46Ryan: you don't even find out until like, what, halfway through
- 1:49the movie that they can fly.
- 1:51But like, I, say this,
- 1:54Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:55Ryan: isn't bad.
- 1:56We have.
- 1:57A great direction by James Cameron in his first film.
- 2:01Even I, well, I, I
- 2:03Jon: Maybe,
- 2:04Ryan: he dis so he disowned it.
- 2:05I mean,
- 2:06Jon: maybe.
- 2:06Ryan: the Terminator, his first Directoral
- 2:09Debut, but this Piranha Two's okay story.
- 2:13It's just there's a lot of uncomfortable moments or an uncomfortable moment,
- 2:17Kearns: there's allegations of James Cameron having been
- 2:20fired from this picture.
- 2:23Jon: That he may have only, he may have only done two or three weeks,
- 2:26or he may have done the whole thing.
- 2:28He may have been locked out of editing.
- 2:30He may have snuck into the editing and edited his own
- 2:33version that no one's ever seen.
- 2:36Kearns: Lots of stories about the video.
- 2:39Asus from 300 and or the producer and screenwriter and director of Piranha
- 2:47to
- 2:48Jon: and
- 2:49Ryan: Cameron.
- 2:50Jon: moved to Italy.
- 2:52Kearns: Yeah.
- 2:53Interesting stuff.
- 2:54No,
- 2:55the
- 2:58Asus, it's either a dental disease or one of the like leaders of a Greek city state.
- 3:05The smelling,
- 3:06Jon: was thinking it's a more appropriate name for hemorrhoids.
- 3:10Kearns: Ooh
- 3:11asus.
- 3:11Jon: is really acting up tonight.
- 3:14Kearns: Oh, it's a good thing to tell your boss when you guys call out, by the way.
- 3:17And just a sinus.
- 3:18All right, bye.
- 3:19Jon: Using that as a reason this year.
- 3:22Kearns: Put it in the website.
- 3:25Ryan: I
- 3:25Jon: I have asin.
- 3:25Can't
- 3:26Ryan: that
- 3:27Jon: make it to work today.
- 3:28Ryan: You know John's got as, yeah, it's just blowing.
- 3:32It's just like cartman from that episode.
- 3:35digress though.
- 3:35Jon: Perfect.
- 3:36Kearns: It won't change the way the cafeteria smells.
- 3:38Oh, anyway, back to Piranha two.
- 3:41I've never seen a movie that brought to mind Jaws two and Jaws three, so
- 3:46much as like some weird like merging of the two, like the Campiness and
- 3:51awfulness of Jaws three, which was also what was good about Jaws three with
- 3:56some of the different set points of Jaws two and all the underwater scenes.
- 4:00There's so many underwater scenes in both, so that that sort of
- 4:04parallelism between the two franchises definitely continues a bit.
- 4:08And the chief of course,
- 4:09Jon: Before we go too far,
- 4:11Kearns: Bishop,
- 4:11Jon: you guys.
- 4:13Kearns: no,
- 4:14no one gives
- 4:15Jon: a blind rank,
- 4:17Kearns: Jigsaw.
- 4:18Jon: and it, it is a, it is a blind rank with the entirety.
- 4:28You'll have to guess.
- 4:30I lost my train of thought.
- 4:31Whoa.
- 4:33All right.
- 4:35Kearns: I met her.
- 4:36She's nice.
- 4:38Mary Sina.
- 4:39Yeah,
- 4:40Jon: Yeah.
- 4:41Kearns: I was doing not chiller, was it?
- 4:42Monster Mania?
- 4:44I did something.
- 4:45She was signing at one of them.
- 4:47I think it might have been chiller actually, where she was,
- 4:49Jon: know what?
- 4:49I think she was a chiller.
- 4:52Kearns: she was a chiller.
- 4:52She was super nice.
- 4:54John Cusack was also nice, but he looks bad.
- 4:57Ryan: is
- 4:58Jon: Yeah,
- 4:58Ryan: Lance Hendrickson
- 4:59Kearns: It is sad 'cause I love him so much.
- 5:02Ryan: Okay.
- 5:03Jon: it is not.
- 5:05Kearns: Good, John.
- 5:07Good for, for not letting that happen again.
- 5:09Jon: even think Lance Hendrickson is in mimic.
- 5:12Ryan: three.
- 5:12Jon: One through five for mimic.
- 5:14Ryan: be safe.
- 5:16Three.
- 5:17Kearns: one.
- 5:18Oh, mimic
- 5:20Ryan: Oh, I love the
- 5:21Kearns: two for me.
- 5:22I liked mimic
- 5:23Ryan: 'cause I don't know, like that's Stephen Kingly,
- 5:26so it's gonna haunt me, man.
- 5:27It's gonna haunt me.
- 5:29Kearns: going with my heart tonight.
- 5:31Jon: now,
- 5:32Kearns: Well, I mean,
- 5:35if there was anyone I could possibly win, it would be a Stephen King one.
- 5:38Jon: movie number
- 5:39Kearns: All right.
- 5:41Jon: cabin fever two.
- 5:45This time it's spreading.
- 5:48Ryan: I've
- 5:49Kearns: it
- 5:49spread plenty in the first one.
- 5:52I remember that as well.
- 5:53One of the hottest disease ridden sex scenes I've ever seen in my life.
- 5:59Of course, Sean.
- 6:00Sean from Boy Meets World.
- 6:01Yeah, he bores Listerine on it.
- 6:04Ryan: I've seen bits and pieces
- 6:05Kearns: I did five as well.
- 6:06That movie's, hot Garbage.
- 6:08Jon: I actually kinda liked it.
- 6:11Kearns: Think Of course you did.
- 6:14Jon: All right.
- 6:15Ready?
- 6:15Movie number three.
- 6:17This is the 2019.
- 6:202019. David
- 6:22Kearns: Guillermo del Toro.
- 6:23Okay.
- 6:24No, not Guillermo del Toro, the new one.
- 6:27It is a good thing actually, because I didn't dislike this one, but I didn't
- 6:31like it as much as like Golden Army.
- 6:33Ryan: interpretation, but David Harbert does it strictly from
- 6:36Kearns: I.
- 6:36Ryan: I believe, and I feel I should say while Ron Prom.
- 6:40It's more like the comic mixed with GMO Del Toros.
- 6:44Like magic.
- 6:46Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 6:47Kearns: Yeah,
- 6:48Ron Perlman.
- 6:49Jon: Perman needed less makeup.
- 6:51Kearns: I just started following him on Instagram.
- 6:53He is got like, he had this cryptic shit he was doing and he was like,
- 6:57it's coming soon and when it hits, you won't know what hit you when it hits
- 7:05and then it like goes away and then you subscribe to the thing and it's
- 7:08just him saying more cryptic shit.
- 7:09I still haven't figured out what's happening, but Ron Perlman's
- 7:12got something cooking everybody.
- 7:14Ryan: Oh,
- 7:15Kearns: It's not a movie.
- 7:16It's like end of the world shit.
- 7:17I think Ron Perlman's lost his mind.
- 7:19Jon: I mean, it's possible.
- 7:22Kearns: I wish I did three for Hellboy, by the way.
- 7:25Jon: All right.
- 7:26Ryan: more than the Crooked Man.
- 7:28Even that one's not bad, but,
- 7:32Kearns: More than Mimic.
- 7:34More than Mimic
- 7:35Jon: any guesses what this topic is?
- 7:39Kearns: Oh, good.
- 7:40Call Movies with makeup and then
- 7:44Cabin Fever Two.
- 7:45Jon: But.
- 7:46Kearns: Cabin Fever, two Hellboy and Mimic.
- 7:50Jon: Is a tough one.
- 7:51Ryan: sea Creatures.
- 7:52Kearns: Yeah.
- 7:53So far.
- 7:55Jon: No sea
- 7:56Kearns: see there is, it's pretty good though, except for a cabin fever too.
- 8:00Hmm.
- 8:02Jon: All right.
- 8:03Kearns: They usually are somewhat loosely tied to our, our video or our episode, but
- 8:07Jon: tied to our episode.
- 8:10Kearns: I a video sitis movies.
- 8:14Jon: No, but you're not.
- 8:16He's
- 8:17Kearns: Ooh, what
- 8:20Jon: number four and he is not a producer.
- 8:23Kearns: screenwriter Screen dune.
- 8:27Jon: the one.
- 8:30Ryan: Four.
- 8:31Jon: Ryan.
- 8:33Kearns: Yeah, that leaves us open for a pretty big What if
- 8:36for number one, that scares me.
- 8:38This actually wouldn't be a, this wouldn't,
- 8:41Ryan: Patrick
- 8:42Kearns: I mean, it's got sting in it.
- 8:43It could live in number one.
- 8:45I might, I might put this at number one.
- 8:47Ryan: I'm locked
- 8:48Jon: Ooh.
- 8:48Kearns: I love doing so God damn much.
- 8:51Ryan: Flush.
- 8:55Kearns: You know what?
- 8:55I'm gonna do it because so far the only difference we have is Mimic
- 8:59and Hellboy are swapped to one spot.
- 9:01So I'm gonna be a trailblazer.
- 9:02Dune is number one this week, everybody.
- 9:04And fuck you.
- 9:05Jon: All right.
- 9:06Let's see.
- 9:07If you come to regret that decision, do you have a guess yet?
- 9:10I,
- 9:10Kearns: Probably if it's not the greatest movie ever, I don't
- 9:13mind it being at number four.
- 9:15All right.
- 9:15A guess for what it could be.
- 9:18Ryan: yeah.
- 9:19Hell mimic doing cabin fever,
- 9:22Kearns: costumes.
- 9:23I don't know man.
- 9:24Ryan: special effects, best
- 9:26Kearns: I got nothing on this one.
- 9:28Jon: Nope, because three of the four are outside of the eighties.
- 9:31Ryan: too.
- 9:31Damn it.
- 9:32Kearns: Ooh,
- 9:33I gave us a hint.
- 9:34The video of I es sinus is involved with what the topic is.
- 9:38Jon: There is a direct correlation between Ovideo Sitis, James Cameron
- 9:44Pana two, and this list of movies.
- 9:50No.
- 9:51Ryan: Nah,
- 9:52Kearns: were direct to video.
- 9:53No, I don't think Deon was.
- 9:55Jon: Dune and Hell Hellboy and Mimic Head Theater, I
- 9:58Kearns: Yeah.
- 9:58Del Boy.
- 9:59Yeah.
- 9:59Mimic was big theater movie.
- 10:00Jon: two.
- 10:01Kearns: I saw Mimic in the theater actually.
- 10:06Jon: All right.
- 10:06Our number one
- 10:07Kearns: Let's see.
- 10:08The last one or, or is it John or is that our number four movie.
- 10:12Jon: well, it's our fifth movie.
- 10:15You're locked in at number four.
- 10:16Ryan's locked
- 10:17Kearns: Yeah.
- 10:18Jon: one.
- 10:18Let's see who's happy and who's said.
- 10:21Kearns: I hope it's two girls, one cup.
- 10:22Oh, you know what?
- 10:23I'm cool with this being number three or number four.
- 10:26Ryan: Oh, oh,
- 10:26Kearns: it's the guy Hold on.
- 10:27Go back.
- 10:28Ryan: about too.
- 10:30Kearns: What's his name?
- 10:30It's not, no, he's an alien.
- 10:32Three in Mimic though.
- 10:33Ryan: dog, by the way, in Alien
- 10:35Kearns: You know who I'm talking about.
- 10:35Ryan: and David Fincher.
- 10:36Kearns: I
- 10:37Ryan: No, Dave has the Alien.
- 10:38Three has,
- 10:39Kearns: thought that was Aliens
- 10:40Ryan: Dog.
- 10:41And David Fincher does a good job directing it, even though he it away.
- 10:45Kearns: The Alien.
- 10:46Ryan: And I should have taken the chance to put the mimic at
- 10:49one, but I'll take Alien three.
- 10:53Kearns: I don't know about Dune being up there, but I mean, dune is not a
- 10:57way worse movie than mimic Hellboy Alien three or Cabin Fever too.
- 11:00So whatever.
- 11:01Jon: bold.
- 11:02Kearns: It's probably one of the biggest productions out of all these movies.
- 11:05I have no idea what the through line is.
- 11:09Jon: Oh
- 11:09Kearns: There's one actor who's in two of these movies and I don't know his name
- 11:13Jon: These were all movies that were disavowed by their directors.
- 11:18Kearns: Ah, mimick was
- 11:21Jon: Yep, yep.
- 11:22Every single
- 11:23Kearns: Mimick was good.
- 11:24Jon: didn't go into details, but
- 11:25Ryan: Okay.
- 11:26Jon: yeah.
- 11:27Kearns: Huh?
- 11:28Jon: You know what
- 11:29Kearns: I should have probably thought about that for a little bit longer.
- 11:31'cause that that was definitely doable.
- 11:33We could have gotten that.
- 11:35Jon: I, you know what though?
- 11:37I
- 11:37Kearns: I.
- 11:37Jon: I may explore why there's those movies.
- 11:40Were disavowed for a Patreon episode.
- 11:44Kearns: Yay Patreon.
- 11:46Let's do it.
- 11:47Jon: Yeah,
- 11:48Kearns: Let's doune it.
- 11:49Doune mimic Cowboy Alien Three and Cabin Fever two.
- 11:52Ryan: a chance.
- 11:54Kearns: What do you think everybody?
- 11:55I can tell the listeners like My list better than Ryan's.
- 11:59I can just feel it.
- 12:00Jon: I'm having a hard time scoring this one.
- 12:02Ryan: it's,
- 12:03Kearns: Nice.
- 12:04That means we've done good Ry.
- 12:05Ryan: over Mimic.
- 12:06That's what's gonna slide it.
- 12:08Oh, no, wait, hold on.
- 12:08Yeah, that might slide it.
- 12:11Yeah.
- 12:13Kearns: I Mimic Over Hellboy.
- 12:14Jon: Yeah, it's gonna be, you got mimic closest to where
- 12:17I would put it on this list.
- 12:18'cause I think I would've put mimic at one
- 12:22Kearns: Oh, I wanted to, but I can never put the first movie at number one.
- 12:26That's crazy.
- 12:27Unless it's like my favorite movie.
- 12:29Jon: that's the trap.
- 12:32Kearns: I would've liked to have done mimic, probably Dune Alien three.
- 12:37Hellboy Cabin Fever two.
- 12:40Ryan: Yeah.
- 12:41Kearns: That would've been my ideal list.
- 12:43Jon: think I probably go
- 12:45Ryan: Mm-hmm.
- 12:45Jon: mimic Alien three.
- 12:47Ryan: Yeah,
- 12:48Kearns: Ooh,
- 12:49Jon: Dune Hellboy, cabin Fever two.
- 12:53Ryan: flip hell
- 12:54Kearns: okay.
- 12:55As long as we all hate Cabin Fever two
- 12:57Jon: I didn't hate it.
- 12:58I thought, I thought it was actually a fairly enjoyable piece of shit.
- 13:02Ryan: It's not,
- 13:03Jon: It's not good.
- 13:05Kearns: now.
- 13:06But if you're enjoying watching a movie for how bad it is, then it's
- 13:09a job well done in another way.
- 13:10Right.
- 13:12Jon: If it
- 13:12Kearns: All right, everybody.
- 13:13Jon: out of this world and into a shitty other world, I'm, I'm cool with it.
- 13:18Ryan: the
- 13:18Kearns: you go.
- 13:19Ryan: the American version.
- 13:20When I saw that, I was like, what the hell?
- 13:23Kearns: I'm gonna start requesting from the viewership.
- 13:25'cause I can't wa I can't find anything to watch.
- 13:27I don't just watch exclusively horror either, or just movies.
- 13:30So if you guys can give me an anime or a, I like Shonan,
- 13:35not isaka, weirdos and movies.
- 13:38I like fantasy movies.
- 13:39I mean, not, I'm not looking for like rom-coms or comedies, although I will get
- 13:43down with a rom-com every now and again.
- 13:45But just like something to watch that I haven't seen before.
- 13:48That's what's killing me is I spend an hour and 20 minutes looking for
- 13:50something I haven't seen before.
- 13:52And then I'll watch something great from 1989
- 13:55Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 13:56Mm-hmm.
- 13:56Kearns: So it's just that time waste.
- 13:58Jon: Yep.
- 13:58Ryan: this earlier, carryon the guy from the Kingsman Patrick, Jason
- 14:03Bateman, I'm sorry, very diehard, but with its own unique Today's twist.
- 14:10good film, good action film.
- 14:11You know, you don't get tired of it and it's got juice from sense of anarchy.
- 14:16I mean, come on.
- 14:16How can you beat that?
- 14:17Kearns: I like Bateman as the bad guy.
- 14:19And it, it was, that was an, that was an interesting watch.
- 14:24I did.
- 14:24I consume a lot of media.
- 14:27I watch movies.
- 14:28Like if I can be doing two things at once, I'm usually watching
- 14:32a movie at the same time,
- 14:34Ryan: That's why I
- 14:34Kearns: usually.
- 14:35Jon: Yep.
- 14:36Ryan: Sylvania.
- 14:37I know, I thought I finished, I thought I finished it.
- 14:40No
- 14:41Kearns: Oh
- 14:42Turn brother.
- 14:43No Turn
- 14:44some respect on the name, bro.
- 14:46Ryan: I,
- 14:48Kearns: That thing's a work of art man.
- 14:50No turn for anything that could actually.
- 14:52Do anything with success or be successful at all, not being the
- 14:56original Sylvania show on Netflix.
- 14:59I am shocked how good NOC turn turned out.
- 15:01It's, it's better
- 15:03of the seasons of Sylvania.
- 15:05Ryan: in one season or series.
- 15:08You're, they're avoiding him.
- 15:12Kearns: I'm not gonna tell you a goddamn thing about Simon.
- 15:15You know, what you can do is about Simon.
- 15:17You can, you can just hope and pray while you watch each and every episode,
- 15:22and
- 15:22maybe you'll be happy and maybe you won't.
- 15:24Jon: and PS
- 15:25Kearns: It's, it's so easy to spoil this shit.
- 15:28Don't spoil this shit.
- 15:29No, I love Simon.
- 15:30Are you kidding me?
- 15:31Simon's Quest, maybe you know how long my dumb little ass was trying
- 15:35to figure out how to jump over that wall in Simon's Quest, how long hours
- 15:41writing down those stupid codes.
- 15:43And then, you know, you never get the capitals right or
- 15:45anything, and you're just.
- 15:47Ryan: regular
- 15:48Kearns: was crazy.
- 15:50Or is that regular?
- 15:50Nintendo?
- 15:51Simons Quest was regular.
- 15:52Nintendo.
- 15:53Yeah.
- 15:53Ryan: Yeah.
- 15:54Kearns: Anyway, moving on, we're talking about Piranha two, the Flying
- 15:58Beast bats or whatever they're called.
- 16:00this one came out in 1987, correct?
- 16:03Jon: 80.
- 16:06Kearns: Oh 82.
- 16:071982. That's right.
- 16:091982. I was a little off everybody.
- 16:11Sometimes they just throw numbers out there to see if the
- 16:13guys know and they always know.
- 16:15So that's good.
- 16:16Jon: few short reviews for you to start us off.
- 16:19Kearns: ooh.
- 16:19Yay.
- 16:21Jon: I have a four star,
- 16:22Kearns: Theme four star.
- 16:23Jon: five.
- 16:23I just loved this one Flying piranhas.
- 16:27Why not?
- 16:28Ryan: That's just simple.
- 16:29Jon: kind of agree.
- 16:30Why not?
- 16:32Yeah, the, I got some shorter ones this time.
- 16:35I have a two and a half star one, which is probably about
- 16:38where this movie slots for me,
- 16:41Ryan: Okay.
- 16:42Jon: I don't agree with how he gets there better than the
- 16:45overrated first film, which sucks.
- 16:49This
- 16:49Kearns: Ooh.
- 16:50Jon: and fun.
- 16:53Kearns: I don't disagree with that either.
- 16:54The first one doesn't suck, but it's not, it's not what it's trying to be.
- 16:59Jon: Yeah.
- 17:01Kearns: I then I agree that this one is what it's trying to be.
- 17:04Jon: And then our half star
- 17:07Kearns: Shark, nato,
- 17:09Jon: half star, Ew.
- 17:11So not worth it.
- 17:13Kearns: I mean, that's, at least they got it over with quickly.
- 17:18Ryan: right off.
- 17:20Kearns: It's a half star.
- 17:21Ryan: can't even put a half
- 17:22Kearns: Yeah.
- 17:23Pull it right off.
- 17:25Ryan: unless it's possible.
- 17:27I,
- 17:29Kearns: I dunno.
- 17:30Jon: It
- 17:30Kearns: Yeah.
- 17:31Jon: that was an Amazon review.
- 17:32Ryan: say, I didn't think you could do
- 17:33Kearns: You can do a half star on Amazon Vicious.
- 17:37Jon: It, it was
- 17:38Kearns: Holy crap.
- 17:39Jon: either Amazon or Letterbox.
- 17:40I don't remember which one I pulled that from.
- 17:43Kearns: I don't know.
- 17:43I I, for those of you listening, I'm, I'm a prolific author and I did
- 17:48not, I was not aware of the half star reviews, and I'm glad, because that
- 17:52would mean somebody gave me a half at one point and I would be, I would know
- 17:56and I would be very upset
- 17:57Ryan: Yeah.
- 17:59Kearns: if they put like two, and I, yeah, me too.
- 18:02I like to write.
- 18:02If I'm gonna review something good, bad or ugly, I'm gonna
- 18:05put in decent amount of wordage.
- 18:08Looks like you got a PBR there, John.
- 18:10I know it's not one, but it looks like one.
- 18:12Ryan: trader Joe's.
- 18:14Jon: just a, it's a
- 18:15Kearns: No, it's the Trader Joe's.
- 18:17Ryan: Yeah.
- 18:17Kearns: It's a tr
- 18:18Jon: Yeah, man.
- 18:20Kearns: Yeah, those things.
- 18:21I mean, he, he hooked me on one of those cases one week, or maybe it was you, Ryan,
- 18:26convinced me to buy them
- 18:27and I did, and they were good.
- 18:29Ryan: This is heaven
- 18:33Kearns: Look at me not remembering the story at all.
- 18:35This is my jam.
- 18:36This is what started it all right here.
- 18:38The first time I popped a delicious polar black cherry seltzer.
- 18:41It changed my life.
- 18:43And I gotta tell you, everybody, it could change yours too.
- 18:46Just go to polar.com.
- 18:51Jon: Are, are we sure about that recommendation?
- 18:55Kearns: No, probably not.

- 19:00Hmm.
- 19:01I'm sorry.
- 19:01We have to update that.
- 19:02That was lemon party.org.

- 19:07If you have children around you, when you open up those websites,
- 19:10polar Seltzer nor me are responsible.
- 19:14Or I am responsible.
- 19:16Jon: is not Seltzer website,
- 19:20Ryan: what is it?
- 19:21Kearns: No, let's see.
- 19:23Jon: some high level British or European watches.
- 19:28Kearns: It's called polar seltzer.com.
- 19:31So a little bit more on the nose, little bit more on the, anyway, they
- 19:34don't actually give us any money.
- 19:35Don't go to their website until they do.
- 19:37All right, so
- 19:39back to,
- 19:41All right.
- 19:41Ryan: they stop.
- 19:42Start sorry.
- 19:43Supporting us zedia.
- 19:45And you can like, subscribe, comment, share.
- 19:51I mean
- 19:53Jon: I mean, go on there and spam them with requests to sponsor us.
- 19:59I mean,
- 20:00Ryan: subscribe.
- 20:01Kearns: That'd be nice.
- 20:03That'd be nice.
- 20:04We'll start that.
- 20:05We'll start this early
- 20:06Ryan: yes.
- 20:07Kearns: 100.
- 20:08We're gonna have them,
- 20:09Ryan: Yeah.
- 20:1035.
- 20:11Kearns: are we on?
- 20:1135.
- 20:13Ryan: 65 episodes to go.
- 20:15We got it.
- 20:16A lot of horror films, but it
- 20:19Kearns: you go.
- 20:19Ryan: starts, it starts off like a slasher film in its own way,
- 20:24Jon: see you.
- 20:26You think it
- 20:26Kearns: Underground six.
- 20:28Jon: slasher film, and I get it from
- 20:29Kearns: Underwater
- 20:30Jon: sequence with the two, two lovers out boating who decide to try to have
- 20:37Kearns: sex.
- 20:38Ryan: the hell's going
- 20:39Jon: underwater
- 20:41Ryan: I
- 20:41Kearns: That's a trademark term.
- 20:43Scuba sex.
- 20:45Scuba sex.
- 20:47Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 20:47Kearns: I do.
- 20:48It's good stuff right there.
- 20:50So yeah, the scuba sex was, I mean, I happened to be watching that alongside
- 20:54John and I was like, what is this movie?
- 20:57Ryan: There's,
- 20:57Kearns: he just started laughing and he goes, it gets better.
- 21:00Jon: It does.
- 21:00Kearns: Yeah.
- 21:01Jon: so after your, your opening, that feels very much like a slasher for me.
- 21:05It really spends about 25 minutes or so
- 21:09Ryan: Yeah.
- 21:10Jon: like a disaster movie.
- 21:12you're introducing this cast of people.
- 21:16That they're gonna try to make you concerned enough when
- 21:19the actual disaster happens.
- 21:22Ryan: them.
- 21:23Kearns: Hmm.
- 21:24Jon: I mean, not, yeah, not completely successfully, but,
- 21:29you know, you have the, the woman chasing her doctor's future spouse.
- 21:36You have, you know, the older lady who's probably younger than at least two of us
- 21:42Kearns: Yeah,
- 21:43Jon: lusting after a lifeguard.
- 21:47Kearns: that makes me sad that I'm one of the old men in this scenario.
- 21:51God Damnit Ryan, you young bastard, you mustang among old, old stallions.
- 21:57Ryan: you Yeah, I was gonna say,
- 21:59Kearns: You do look older than me right now.
- 22:02are.
- 22:02All you gotta do is watch me bend down to, to pick up.
- 22:04That's 'cause I'm four feet tall and I'm five eight.
- 22:08But if I ever bend down to pick something up, you have to watch how strategically I
- 22:12move my body so I don't throw my back out.
- 22:14And that's right.
- 22:14Oh, that guy's over 40.
- 22:16Ryan: No,
- 22:17Kearns: shortage of women who are not ugly in this movie.
- 22:20The casting was very deliberate for sure.
- 22:23Ryan: got eaten up.
- 22:25one with the, the brown hair.
- 22:26I was very upset and I knew it was coming.
- 22:29blonde I didn't care so much for, but you know,
- 22:32Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 22:32Ryan: to rewind, The scuba, you know, the scuba tear pair, having
- 22:38fun and you hear that classic, the whatever that, noise and,
- 22:47Kearns: Yeah.
- 22:47Ryan: which I'm
- 22:48Jon: The only thing they kept.
- 22:50Ryan: But they also, they, there is a scene where they also mention the first
- 22:54film later on, so they do kinda catch
- 22:58Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 22:59Ryan: But it was nice to have that 'cause it's like you're connecting it,
- 23:03at least with the first film, which even if James Cameron said he's not
- 23:07a part of it, he does that very well.
- 23:09He connects like aliens for example.
- 23:12He connected it very well with Alien and makes him a good director in that way.
- 23:18Especially with the Avatar movies coming like 20 years apart.
- 23:22you need to have some like, you know, little connectivity there.
- 23:27Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 23:28Kearns: Listen, anything I can tell you about Jimmy, Jimmy C is that for
- 23:33those who grew up when we grew up, Ryan read about this in one of those books,
- 23:40but for people like John especially, and me a little bit, did James Cameron
- 23:46action movie was the Blockbuster film.
- 23:48That we grew up with.
- 23:49It was the thing, Terminator two, first of all, I watched that way too young,
- 23:54like horrifically young to see that movie.
- 23:57But that was like, those were the movies,
- 24:01Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 24:18Kearns: But yeah.
- 24:20And Titanic, right?
- 24:21Avatar, all those other amazing movies he did.
- 24:23Aquaman and and.
- 24:26Ryan: They, they got Kevin Smith to write the sequel.
- 24:29Those bastards?
- 24:31Kearns: But he's, James Cameron is insanely talented as a director.
- 24:34His vision and his ability to storyboard are unparalleled.
- 24:39I mean, I mean, there are other amazing directors of Scorsese, obviously, and
- 24:42all these other directors out there.
- 24:43I mean, John rattle off seven that you love right now.
- 24:46I'm sure you can.
- 24:47Jon: Oh, on, like that level,
- 24:50Kearns: No, just any director you feel like is amazingly talented.
- 24:53Jon: you know where I'm gonna start?
- 24:55Kearns: Let's do Romero
- 24:57Jon: Carpenter Brian De Palma's got some great movies.
- 25:01Scorsese, I, I think.
- 25:04Ryan: about Car
- 25:05Kearns: Ryan de Palmer's a good ad. I
- 25:08Ryan: Forest.
- 25:08Yo.
- 25:09Jumbo.
- 25:09Jon: Yeah.
- 25:11Kearns: hell yes, Ryan.
- 25:13Hell yes.
- 25:14Jon: I, I throw,
- 25:15Ryan: Ooh.
- 25:15Yes.
- 25:16Jon: some Oliver Stone in there too.
- 25:18Ryan: Mm.
- 25:19Kearns: Oh, the doors.
- 25:21Let's hear it.
- 25:21Let's, you know what's fun about Oliver Stone movies Looking for the
- 25:24Indian, there's the, where's that?
- 25:26Hey Lou, where's that little guy?
- 25:27Where's the Indian?
- 25:28He's around.
- 25:29Was there an Indian in what was the Oliver Stone movie?
- 25:33Malcolm X or did he do JFK?
- 25:35Which one did he do?
- 25:37He did.
- 25:37Was there an Indian JFK?
- 25:40Jon: probably,
- 25:41Kearns: gotta be an Indian somewhere in that movie.
- 25:43Jon: X brings up another one that we forgot.
- 25:45Spike Lee.
- 25:47Kearns: That's right, that's right.
- 25:49Spike Lee is another one.
- 25:50Yeah, you're absolutely right.
- 25:51That was like implanted in that two decade,
- 25:55Era of movies.
- 25:57Ryan: Western Sergio
- 25:58Kearns: Imprinted, I mean
- 25:59Yeah, fair enough.
- 26:01The way that they stole those movies, they stole Japanese Samurai movies and
- 26:05just put them in the West is wild to me.
- 26:08Ryan: he came out with for a few dollars more.
- 26:10And then that's what led to the good and the bad and the ugly.
- 26:14Kearns: Yeah.
- 26:14Ryan: yo Jimbo so
- 26:16Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 26:17Ryan: The sword against the
- 26:18Jon: What did the, what did that crappy Bruce Willis last man standing rip off,
- 26:25Ryan: Yeah.
- 26:25Yeah,
- 26:26Jon: eh, okay.
- 26:28Ryan: recycled.
- 26:30plot.
- 26:31Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 26:32Kearns: I don't, I don't dig that stuff, and that's what James Cameron doesn't do.
- 26:35Here we go, guys, we're circling back, but he doesn't, you can throw anything at
- 26:40him and he'll do something great with it.
- 26:42Jon: but it is
- 26:43Kearns: I,
- 26:43Jon: the producer of Piranha two will do,
- 26:46Kearns: yeah.
- 26:47Jon: Ovideo Asin
- 26:50also known as the Ripoff King.
- 26:54Kearns: Yeah, that, that's a shyster for sure.
- 26:56Jon: But I mean, born in Egypt.
- 26:59He ends up in Italy and that's a big, like, really that like
- 27:04Mediterranean rim there, Greece, Turkey,
- 27:10Ryan: Yeah.
- 27:11Jon: movies.
- 27:11There's a Turkish Star Wars, the Italians of Acinus himself ripped off Jaws.
- 27:18Ripped off the Exorcist.
- 27:20Like,
- 27:21Ryan: another rip off of yo Jimbo too.
- 27:23Funny enough.
- 27:25Okay.
- 27:27Jon: no, that was somebody else.
- 27:28I don't remember who, but I that Django series is somebody else.
- 27:32Ryan: Ooh.
- 27:33Kearns: I see the jaws behind you here, John, by the way,
- 27:36just above your mic.
- 27:38It's so good.
- 27:39Ryan: Is that how.
- 27:40Kearns: It's pretty sick.
- 27:42Jon: I love
- 27:42Kearns: I.
- 27:42Ryan: Okay.
- 27:44Jon: too.
- 27:44Ryan: something like, that's like different from like, a
- 27:47different artist's perspective.
- 27:50Oh, that's cool.
- 27:52Jon: Mm, mm-hmm.
- 27:53You wanna go?
- 27:54Kearns: Pretty cool.
- 27:54Jon: gotta look it up.
- 27:55I forget which country it might be.
- 27:56Kenya has a series of posters that are just outrageous.
- 28:03They're like African interpretations of Western movies.
- 28:08They're
- 28:08Kearns: I would love to line a wall with those.
- 28:11Yeah, it's pretty sick.
- 28:12Jon: them.
- 28:12I'll send 'em to you guys.
- 28:13They're so cool.
- 28:15Ryan: the New York
- 28:15Jon: I think they're a little expensive, but,
- 28:18Ryan: go visit you.
- 28:19visit you.
- 28:20No, that'd be.
- 28:21Kearns: They should do like a retro, not a retro, but I guess all art is
- 28:25retro, but just some, an art museum that dedicated to things like that.
- 28:30Pop culturey stuff that's actually worthwhile, not just
- 28:33Banksy and things like that.
- 28:35Banksy is worthwhile too, but you know what I mean?
- 28:38That would be cool.
- 28:40Anyway, piranha two.
- 28:41Everybody that's the episode.
- 28:43Have a good night.
- 28:45Jon: I mean, listen,
- 28:46Kearns: what?
- 28:47Ryan: Yes,
- 28:48Jon: it's very light on plot.
- 28:49You know, it's a, it's a lot of running around trying to figure out first what's
- 28:54people, and then how to stop flying
- 28:56Kearns: Yeah, so that's the other thing.
- 28:59I think that they changed the title, and I'm probably wrong about this, but they
- 29:01don't bring the flying part out until halfway through the movie or even further.
- 29:06So that's supposed to be a twist.
- 29:09So having the flying part in the title is kind of dumb.
- 29:12Ryan: because the lore is, they're afraid of the dark, right?
- 29:16They're in the darkness, and when that flying piranha comes
- 29:19out, it is, I mean, I get it.
- 29:20It's dark, it's nighttime, but that room is bright, brightly
- 29:24lit, it comes outta nowhere.
- 29:27So I'm like, all right, you're already messing up the lore.
- 29:29But to see that piranha fly out of that corpse.
- 29:321982. It's a pretty cool special effects, especially when you're
- 29:35competing against Tom Sini
- 29:37Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 29:38Ryan: Greg Nicotero at that time.
- 29:41It's decent, decent for a low budget film.
- 29:43I think low
- 29:44Jon: Yep.
- 29:44Ryan: 1 45.
- 29:45145,000. Yeah.
- 29:48Jon: Yeah, it was, it was pretty low budget.
- 29:50Ryan: lower budget than
- 29:51Jon: It was pretty low budget.
- 29:52Yeah.
- 29:54Ryan: two, three, or,
- 29:56Jon: Probably not.
- 29:57Kearns: Yeah, it's pretty low.
- 29:58Jon: think some Italian money with it, so.
- 30:01Ryan: Hmm.
- 30:02Kearns: Ah, the Italian money,
- 30:04Jon: mean, they would throw money into these things.
- 30:06So
- 30:07Ryan: You need, you need to make Piranha two
- 30:10Kearns: you can't refuse.
- 30:11Ryan: of boobies.
- 30:13Jon: you guys,
- 30:15Kearns: The Lahan heist money.
- 30:18Ryan: No Pink Cadillacs gentlemen.
- 30:19No Pink Cadillacs.
- 30:21Jon: you guys ready for another review?
- 30:23Kearns: Yeah, let's do it.
- 30:25We're running.
- 30:25We're running into the ground over here.
- 30:27Jon: a one star.
- 30:29When I consider the quality of science fiction, it should have a
- 30:33certain amount of reality to make the other parts somewhat convincing.
- 30:39When it goes as far as this move flying piranha, it just gets dumb.
- 30:45If you choose to watch this, you will see fish flying through the
- 30:49air attacking people because they were bred like a loaf of bread.
- 30:55With flying fish, however, fish don't fly like birds hovering this movie
- 31:01could have been worse, but not much.
- 31:04Kearns: There could be hummingbirds, hummingbird, piranhas.
- 31:08You don't know lady?
- 31:10guessing lady.
- 31:11Might be a man.
- 31:12Felt like a lady.
- 31:13Ryan: Sharknado Five.
- 31:15Jon: I,
- 31:16Ryan: But
- 31:17Kearns: I think they all fly
- 31:18in this tornado.
- 31:20Isn't that like the transportation?
- 31:21Oh, I don't know.
- 31:22I didn't make it to like the sixth or seventh.
- 31:24One four.
- 31:24Jon: got through two, which is
- 31:29kind of an indictment, knowing how much I like terrible,
- 31:32Kearns: Yeah.
- 31:34Jon: that I couldn't get.
- 31:34Kearns: Well it was, it was mainstream.
- 31:37Terrible.
- 31:38Ryan: Floors.
- 31:39Kearns: John Terrible.
- 31:40Jon: forced.
- 31:40Terrible.
- 31:41Yeah, it was,
- 31:42Kearns: Yeah.
- 31:43I.
- 31:43Jon: Terrible.
- 31:44And if you know anything about asylum, that's what they do.
- 31:46They f have budgets about one or $2 million, they rip off a blockbuster
- 31:52and they just roll out, you know,
- 31:56Kearns: That.
- 31:56Jon: blister, former, a-list stars in a, in a movie that's not
- 32:02very good and not very enjoyable.
- 32:05Kearns: Well, speaking about shark NATOs, didn't that come
- 32:07out on the sci-fi channel?
- 32:09And this re reviewer said this is a sci-fi movie.
- 32:12I don't think this movie is a science fiction film, ma mam.
- 32:15Sir Mer,
- 32:16Jon: no.
- 32:18Ryan: No,
- 32:19Jon: it's also not a loaf of bread.
- 32:22Kearns: it's not a loaf of bread.
- 32:23It is not, it's not a delicious sourdough loaf of bread.
- 32:26Ryan: air, which if we, if we jump to that scene, that is a pretty cool scene
- 32:31when they're all coming outta the hotel.
- 32:33I, I do like that scene.
- 32:34They're all thinking they're gonna get some fish to eat
- 32:37and they get eaten themselves.
- 32:38Ironically,
- 32:40Jon: We want fish.
- 32:43want fish.
- 32:45We want fish.
- 32:47And I get fish.
- 32:50Kearns: I, you get Phish
- 32:52Jon: Yeah.
- 32:53Kearns: now with Lance Hendrickson in this movie.
- 32:56You, you're getting like some serious acting power coming through a bit
- 33:00and it does kind of confuse you while you're watching it 'cause you're
- 33:04like, oh, this is a serious scene.
- 33:05No, it's not.
- 33:06It's not a serious scene at all.
- 33:07Ryan: No.
- 33:08Jon: There are no serious scenes in Prana two despite their best efforts.
- 33:13Kearns: He had
- 33:14not yet done Alien
- 33:16at this point, right?
- 33:18Or had he done Alien?
- 33:20It was right there.
- 33:21Right?
- 33:21Isn't Alien, that's 79.
- 33:23Jon: yeah, he did alien by then.
- 33:25Yeah.
- 33:26Kearns: Can you imagine this being your freaking backup chick or
- 33:29whatever you call it, your rebound movie after Alien playing Bishop?
- 33:34Jon: no, he
- 33:34Kearns: Was he?
- 33:35Ryan: first,
- 33:36Kearns: Oh, he was the guy in Aliens.
- 33:38All right.
- 33:39the guy in Alien is the goofball.
- 33:41Yeah, you're right, you're right.
- 33:42Ryan: most noticeable film he ever did at that time, early in his career,
- 33:46was actually in 1975 Dog Day afternoon as he portrayed FBI agent Murphy.
- 33:52Kearns: oh,
- 33:53alright.
- 33:53So he did Aliens four years after this movie, so that's good for him.
- 33:57That's good because this piece of shit
- 34:00shouldn't be after aliens.
- 34:02Yeah.
- 34:02Jon: thing about Lance Henrickson is that he was
- 34:05Ryan: that's,
- 34:06Jon: started acting.
- 34:07Ryan: yeah.
- 34:08Kearns: Is that so?
- 34:09Jon: learned, he
- 34:11Kearns: Good
- 34:11Jon: read so he could
- 34:12Ryan: it.
- 34:13Jon: read scripts, basically.
- 34:14Ryan: Henrikson.
- 34:15Kearns: for him, man.
- 34:17Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 34:18He's, he is.
- 34:20He is always the best thing in a movie that he's in.
- 34:24Kearns: He is the best wrinkle
- 34:26Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 34:27Mm-hmm.
- 34:27Kearns: He wasn't in he looks like the Robo Robocop guy,
- 34:30but he's not Robocop guy.
- 34:32He,
- 34:33Jon: Weller.
- 34:34Peter
- 34:35Kearns: they both have the same severe facial features.
- 34:38Yeah.
- 34:40Ryan: That was, I
- 34:42Kearns: Oh yeah.
- 34:43Ryan: Bishop for a while.
- 34:44Nope.
- 34:44Kearns: Ah,
- 34:45Ryan: It's like,
- 34:46Jon: Rucker.
- 34:46Howers was so cool.
- 34:49Kearns: you know what?
- 34:50I thought it was Clint Howard, to be honest with you.
- 34:53That movie would've been a lot better if it was Clint Howard.
- 34:56Ryan: oh, we need a reboot of that.
- 34:58Kearns: Yeah, he's cream.
- 34:59Ryan: I am just joking.
- 35:00I'm
- 35:01Kearns: I can take that.
- 35:02We are chugging right along here.
- 35:03Everybody.
- 35:04We should wrap up on the, piranha too.
- 35:06There's not much else to talk about.
- 35:07There's lots of boobs.
- 35:09Jon: I mean, you have, you have Lance Hendrickson as a sheriff who
- 35:12can pilot any vehicle you give him
- 35:16Kearns: Yeah, he's phenomenal.
- 35:17Ryan: he
- 35:17Jon: car,
- 35:18Kearns: fighter, anything.
- 35:20Ryan: Did you guys find any, because that's him lifting the
- 35:24Jon: it.
- 35:24Ryan: up in the scene.
- 35:25Like when he's flying, that's him flying it.
- 35:27And I'm like,
- 35:28Jon: Yeah.
- 35:28Ryan: how to fly?
- 35:30Like you, you know, the actors, classic actors knew how to ride horses, right?
- 35:34That's like a gimme.
- 35:35Or maybe some of them knew how to drive boats, but a, a heli helicopter,
- 35:39Jon: I,
- 35:40Kearns: There's a rumor that one of the choppers almost killed James
- 35:42Cameron during the filming of this.
- 35:47Well, he is part of the, he's part of the corroboration of the story
- 35:50because he's one of the people that confirms that leak, so,
- 35:55yeah.
- 35:56Ryan: James Cameron's apocalypse now was
- 35:58Kearns: But I digress.
- 35:59Jon: yeah.
- 36:00Ryan: what led him to make the Terminator.
- 36:02That's great.
- 36:03Great law right there,
- 36:05Jon: you get fewer deaths, I think, than in the original,
- 36:09which is, you know, against
- 36:12Kearns: Yeah.
- 36:13Ryan: more
- 36:13Jon: rules.
- 36:16Kearns: Hmm.
- 36:16Ryan: debts, and they're more brutal.
- 36:18These weren't as brutal.
- 36:19Jon: But I think there was some more emotional deaths in this
- 36:23one, like Gabby and his kid.
- 36:26Ryan: That
- 36:26Jon: Like those are kind
- 36:27Kearns: Hmm.
- 36:27Ryan: when he grabs the watch, I was like, he's gonna get pulled into the water.
- 36:31he's looking at the watch and the piranha comes out of the dark and gets him in
- 36:34the neck, which again, against the lore.
- 36:36'cause he should, he's in the light.
- 36:38Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 36:38Ryan: be safe.
- 36:39But again, digressing on that, he gets attacked and it's just like, you feel so
- 36:43Kearns: Yeah.
- 36:43Ryan: father and he tries to blow 'em up too, which that fight
- 36:48Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 36:48Ryan: which now I know why they did the scene in the remake with Ving Rees.
- 36:53I wonder if that was like a like Yeah,
- 36:57Jon: It.
- 36:58Yeah.
- 36:59Ryan: Okay.
- 36:59Jon: it's kind of a nod to that scene.
- 37:01Yeah.
- 37:03Yeah.
- 37:04Kearns: A sentence I wasn't ready for tonight.
- 37:07Jon: You know, you,
- 37:08Kearns: You mean the gimp?
- 37:09You mean the gimp scene
- 37:11that you About
- 37:12Jon: Is a nod to Piranha too,
- 37:14Kearns: three gimp.
- 37:16I remember that all
- 37:18Jon: and, you know, you, you get that whole like, like the classic
- 37:22revenge set up with Gabby too, where he is like, you know, making his
- 37:26explosives and everything to go and get the Piha that killed his kid.
- 37:30He doesn't even get a chance to use it.
- 37:32Ryan: point, like maybe they didn't have the money and they
- 37:35had to go with that death.
- 37:36I would've like had 'em light up the dynamite and just blow himself up like,
- 37:43Kearns: I.
- 37:45Jon: Well, yeah, they, they've sort of, they sort of said it.
- 37:51Ryan: See,
- 37:51Kearns: And my contributions tonight are worthless.
- 37:54Ryan: going with the
- 37:55Jon: Don
- 37:55Ryan: Black
- 37:55Jon: Mo,
- 37:56Ryan: I sell drugs and legal stuff to the children.
- 38:01Kearns: Yeah.
- 38:02Jon: Jimmy, JJ Walker, man.
- 38:05Kearns: Jimmy, JJ Walker Sound all right.
- 38:10I like how the end is suspiciously, like the end of the first piranha.
- 38:14It's like pretty close to the same concept only instead of the smelting materials.
- 38:20This time it's Baboom.
- 38:22I.
- 38:23Ryan: they
- 38:23Jon: Yep.
- 38:23Ryan: bomb down, Anne and Tyler who?
- 38:26Tyler.
- 38:26Oh shocker.
- 38:27He works for the government and he's on leave like kind of investigate
- 38:32and make sure none of it happens.
- 38:34Like the piranhas aren't loose.
- 38:35And that's also where we find out that Anne mentions the first film.
- 38:39It's a little synopsis there.
- 38:41definitely from like a tagline or a
- 38:44Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 38:44Ryan: a movie.
- 38:45Just how she goes through every scene, but they drop off a bomb.
- 38:49And that scene I did get a little emotional as a movie goer, seeing
- 38:53Tyler getting like chewed up.
- 38:56'cause he, he's not a bad guy.
- 38:57He's trying to do the right thing.
- 38:59He's like on that thin line and it's like, ah, it's, his death was like,
- 39:05Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 39:06Ryan: to happen.
- 39:06But it didn't need to happen either.
- 39:08It was, it could have gone both ways.
- 39:11Jon: Yeah, he's the redemptive self-sacrifice.
- 39:14You know, he was res, partially responsible for the creation of flying
- 39:18piranhas, and he's gonna be responsible for the destruction of flying piranhas
- 39:24Ryan: of these piranhas.
- 39:26'cause there was not a lot of pictures of the piranhas from 78.
- 39:29Jon: they really didn't show 'em.
- 39:30They, you should be able to find a couple.
- 39:33Ryan: not that many.
- 39:34It's like here and there, but the flying ones, I, I need more of those.
- 39:38Jon: So let's close out with one more.
- 39:40One star.
- 39:41Kearns: Ooh.
- 39:41All right.
- 39:42Let's see it.
- 39:42Jon: One star.
- 39:45inappropriate nudity given the piranha theme.
- 39:50Although, to be
- 39:51Kearns: You want more Piran, nuity.
- 39:53Jon: Yeah.
- 39:53I think she, I think this person just wanted Piana boobies and was disappointed
- 39:58Kearns: some fish sticks, if you know what I mean.
- 40:01Sauce.
- 40:03Jon: I had, I had very poor reception for this movie, but had to shut it off
- 40:10midway anyway because of how bad it is.
- 40:13Ryan: See
- 40:14Kearns: Oh, okay.
- 40:16Ryan: there's so many other battle movies.
- 40:18This, this doesn't light a candle.
- 40:21It, it's a two and a half.
- 40:23I agree.
- 40:23It's a two and a half
- 40:24Jon: No, they, Yeah.
- 40:25It's a, it's about a two and a half star movie.
- 40:27It's a mid-level movie.
- 40:29It's.
- 40:31Lower than two and a half stars if you're watching it by yourself.
- 40:35But if you're watching it with some friends
- 40:37Kearns: oh.
- 40:37Jon: you know, having a drink or something, it's probably a
- 40:40four, four and a half star movie.
- 40:42'cause you can have so much fun watching this movie with people.
- 40:47Kearns: I agree.
- 40:47If this is a worthy watch, I don't know if I'd give it four and a half.
- 40:51I might, I might stick to a nice three and a half kind of thing outta
- 40:54five, but it's, it's a worthy watch.
- 40:58I mean, they, there's been a lot of movies we've covered on this
- 41:01show that are way better, that had less budgets and didn't have James
- 41:05Cameron on the project and stuff too.
- 41:07But this is what it is.
- 41:08It's a good movie and it's for that purpose.
- 41:11You're not going to watch an Oscar nominee.
- 41:15This is for fun.
- 41:16Jon: And
- 41:17Kearns: not fantasm.
- 41:18Jon: again, I think there's, I think this is my soapbox, not every movie
- 41:23has to be, award worthy movies can
- 41:26Kearns: Agreed.
- 41:26Jon: and you can have fun watching them if you go into it expecting,
- 41:31you're just gonna have an hour and a half to two hours of a diversion,
- 41:36Ryan: Yep.
- 41:37Jon: you know, you can find fun in almost anything.
- 41:39Kearns: Yep.
- 41:40There's a, it's a very rare thing for a movie to like piss me off like it some
- 41:46of these one star reviewers and I usually know what the ingredients are for that
- 41:49when it's trying for something but not putting any effort in, or it's like
- 41:53pretending to be trying for something.
- 41:54That's usually when I hate a movie.
- 41:56My god, what a gift.
- 41:58What a gift to all of you from us.
- 42:02This show was.
- 42:04So that's Piranha two.
- 42:06No scars guard in Piranha two.
- 42:09Like or lost.
- 42:13Yeah.
- 42:13Yeah, he did, he did get a mention.
- 42:17He's on the Mind.
- 42:17We talked about him last night.
- 42:19Kim and I were doing something and we brought up Scars guard.
- 42:21I forget why.
- 42:23And I shit on 'em.
- 42:24I think we were talking about the podcast and how I shit on
- 42:26'em, on the podcast all the time.
- 42:27Ryan: guest star.
- 42:28It's gonna be great.
- 42:29Kearns: Both of them.
- 42:30I think we were comparing them to the Hemsworth's, the other brothers that are
- 42:34enacting and she's like, you know what the difference is, is that I don't remember
- 42:37what any of the scars guards look like.
- 42:38And I was like, oh, what a burn.
- 42:40What a burn
- 42:42Jon: I can't tell
- 42:42Ryan: here on that one,
- 42:43Jon: the Hemsworth's apart.
- 42:44I don't think.
- 42:45Kearns: Now.
- 42:46Well, I'm not gonna argue with you on that 'cause it's a lose lose on my end.
- 42:50Like, well, Liam's abs taper in this direction.
- 42:54Chris is, lets.
- 42:58Glisten better in the sunlight
- 43:01Ryan: He is a God.
- 43:02He is a God, God of thunder.
- 43:04Kearns: the oil.
- 43:05Ryan: talk about a different God tonight,
- 43:07Kearns: I.
- 43:07Ryan: and that God is Lance Hendrickson.
- 43:09And I'm gonna give you my top five of Lance Hendrickson projects and
- 43:14we're going all over the board.
- 43:16We're going movies, we're going tv.
- 43:18And we're starting with number five with my favorite video game, trilogy of all
- 43:22time, mass Effect, where he portrays the voice of Admiral Steven Hackett.
- 43:27He kinda leads you as Commander Shepherd through your journey as you try to save
- 43:32the galaxy from Reapers, the Saren, the elusive man played by Martin Sheen.
- 43:40It's a phenomenal RPG highly recommend it, and again, has Lance Henrickson
- 43:46in a very important role as Admiral Steven Hackett, to which my number four.
- 43:53I gotta go with the Millennium created by Chris Carter of xFi Fame.
- 43:58I'm a big xFi fan, so of course Millennium is in the same universe.
- 44:02He plays ex FBI Agent Frank Black, who is now a consultant with the ability
- 44:07to see inside the minds of criminals working for a mysterious organization
- 44:11known as the Millennium Group.
- 44:13And there is a great crossover, I think from season seven of the X-Files.
- 44:17And we get Frank Black, meaning Fox molder.
- 44:21just, and yes, John.
- 44:24Sorry.
- 44:26I was gonna say it's a nice little
- 44:27Jon: No, finish.
- 44:28Finish.
- 44:29Ryan: spooky molder meet with Frank Black,
- 44:34Jon: Uhhuh I, I think the X-Files probably has the two best least seen spinoff series
- 44:43of any show that did spinoffs because the lone gunman spinoff was amazing too.
- 44:48Ryan: the shark in season nine.
- 44:50Kearns: Yeah, it.
- 44:51Ryan: the episode too.
- 44:52They jumped the shark, but the, if they continued it, the next season
- 44:57would've been 10 times better.
- 44:58'cause they were kind of, I, I know it ends on a cliffhanger.
- 45:03I know they're onto something else, but it was gonna co connect with
- 45:07the whole molder missing thing.
- 45:08And I'm gonna get into the X file, Lord, I see currents.
- 45:11He's like, no, do not do this.
- 45:14Do not.
- 45:16He's count or locking me.
- 45:23He's zo.
- 45:25Well,
- 45:26Kearns: or
- 45:26blocking you.
- 45:27Ryan: three in my next film.
- 45:29Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Bean, Linda Hamilton, it's
- 45:33the Terminator Lance Hendrick.
- 45:36Michael Bean, my bad.
- 45:37Lance Hendrickson plays Hal
- 45:39Kearns: Sorry.
- 45:40Ryan: a member of the Los Angeles
- 45:41Kearns: I.
- 45:42Ryan: Department, but.
- 45:44James Cameron directed and created, and it is supposedly his first director debuted
- 45:49film, not Piranha two, my, his preferred,
- 45:55Jon: preferred directorial debut?
- 45:57Kearns: Yeah,
- 45:58Ryan: it is Piranha two.
- 46:00You right there, buddy.
- 46:01Because I'm gonna be honest, if I
- 46:06Kearns: my
- 46:06wife walked by.
- 46:07Sorry I was terrifying.
- 46:09Ryan: movie, both of your favorite movie.
- 46:11And that's Pumpkin Head.
- 46:15That's why I,
- 46:15Kearns: Bride.
- 46:16Oh, nice.
- 46:18Nice dude.
- 46:20Ryan: Did you bring back a demon?
- 46:22Lance Hendrickson plays Ed Harley who after his son is killed by
- 46:27these, miss Gants, he goes to a witch doctor and brings back a demon.
- 46:34Dun dun
- 46:36Kearns: He tells him what to do.
- 46:37C
- 46:38Come on, come on.
- 46:41He goes to like straight up baba yaga out in the woods.
- 46:44But yeah, like there's a lot going on there.
- 46:46There's the, the pumpkin head summoning of the golum for revenge trope is there.
- 46:50It's so good.
- 46:51Ryan: that it was hard 'cause
- 46:52Kearns: Sorry, I'm just gonna bite my lip now.
- 46:54Ryan: but number number one is game over man.
- 46:58It's aliens Bishop, the knife scene, that's where I remember him when
- 47:02I thought he was Rucker Howard.
- 47:04So like just the knife and putting Bill Paxton's hand over it.
- 47:09We're going for a ride.
- 47:11It's just so good.
- 47:12Kearns: Woo.
- 47:12He's screaming.
- 47:13It's great.
- 47:14It's a great scene.
- 47:15All right.
- 47:15If there's any movie that can take one away from Pimp Pumpkin
- 47:18Head, I almost said Pimp Head.
- 47:19It's that
- 47:21pimp head, huh?
- 47:22Jon: Pimp Head.
- 47:23Ryan: I'm writing
- 47:24Kearns: Ooh.
- 47:24In in Turkey.
- 47:26And for 1,000,005
- 47:29Ryan: in Turkey.
- 47:30Kearns: Head.
- 47:31It is.
- 47:32Yep.
- 47:34Filming begins in three minutes everybody, so get on a plane.
- 47:38Jon: We're gonna write it as we go.
- 47:41Kearns: Yeah,
- 47:41Jon: get, we'll get on one of the hair transplant plant planes and we'll,
- 47:45Ryan: right?
- 47:46Lance Henrikson?
- 47:48Kearns: he definitely do that.
- 47:49Ryan: Tim
- 47:49Jon: are we still alive?
- 47:50Ryan: Curry.
- 47:50Jon: Absolutely.
- 47:52Kearns: Yeah, he's around.
- 47:54Jon: Tim Curry
- 47:55Kearns: Tim Curry's also alive.
- 47:56I know that.
- 47:56I know that for sure.
- 47:58Yep.
- 47:59Jon: time, Tim Curry was alive.
- 48:01Kearns: Was alive
- 48:0318.
- 48:05Ryan: always, always kneel before sod
- 48:08Kearns: Yeah.
- 48:10Ryan: s. Sneaky bouies.
- 48:11Jon: Snoo.
- 48:12Bucci?
- 48:14Kearns: We were actually, I was in the comic bookstore with my
- 48:16kids because I'm an awesome dad.
- 48:17I'm an awesome dad, and I was talking to the comic book guy with my kids
- 48:21because once again, awesome dad.
- 48:24And he, he looked up and there was this weird like Star Wars thing,
- 48:27but it looked like Zod and I made the joke about Zod on it and he
- 48:31got silent and morose for a second.
- 48:33I was like, yeah, RIP man.
- 48:35Sorry, didn't mean that's, it's fresh.
- 48:37But he got like real sad.
- 48:38I was like, no, no comic book store guy.
- 48:41Please don't be sad.
- 48:42Ryan: Yeah, you did.
- 48:43Kearns: I know he is dead.
- 48:44He, he did a pretty good run,
- 48:46He was born in 36,
- 48:49Ryan: Yep.
- 48:50Kearns: so what was that, 89?
- 48:51Jon: think he was 88.
- 48:52I think his birthday's
- 48:54Kearns: Yeah,
- 48:54Ryan: Yeah.
- 48:55Kearns: we'll take 88.
- 48:56Jon: 88.
- 48:57I'd sign up for 88.
- 48:59Kearns: Yep.
- 49:0080 eight's good.
- 49:01Just incontinent ISS enough to have a good time, you know.
- 49:06Jon: Yep.
- 49:07Kearns: Right.
- 49:07That was a good list, Ryan.
- 49:08That was one of my favorite lists you've ever done.
- 49:10Jon: good list.
- 49:11Kearns: was a sexy list, my friend.
- 49:13Jon: That was a,
- 49:13Ryan: and it's like no hints.
- 49:15Kearns: I need to know what John's is.
- 49:17Ryan: know.
- 49:17That's why.
- 49:18Jon: I didn't see you all week.
- 49:19So my, my list is five Jaws ripoffs, and we are not, not
- 49:30Kearns: nice.
- 49:31Jon: in the water.
- 49:32Kearns: Oh, even better.
- 49:34Jon: we, we will leave the water at some point in this list
- 49:37Kearns: doing some research for these episodes.
- 49:39Baby.
- 49:40I, let's go.
- 49:41Jon: my number five goes to the Ripoff King himself.
- 49:44Oh.
- 49:44Video asin with his movie tentacles.
- 49:50Kearns: Oh, okay.
- 49:51Jon: Yep.
- 49:52A giant octopus terrorized the California coast.
- 49:56Starring John Houston, Shelly Winters and Henry Fonda.
- 50:01Kearns: When did that come out?
- 50:02Like a made for TV movie like this, but it was a giant squid.
- 50:06okay.
- 50:06So this is way later.
- 50:07Ryan: from them.
- 50:09Let's it.
- 50:11Jon: my number four is Fish, which is directed by another Italian.
- 50:17Like I said, the Italians loved ripping off American movies.
- 50:22This one is Antonio Marti.
- 50:25And it's a Jaws Rip Off Killer Fish.
- 50:28Kearns: Hey Antonio,
- 50:29Jon: just, just
- 50:30Kearns: you wanna make a movie about a big mad fish?
- 50:32Jon: few, a few of the ripoffs that didn't make this list made by Italian directors.
- 50:38Cruel Jaws, the great alligator, killer crocodile, last shark.
- 50:44There's just so many.
- 50:45It was, it's
- 50:46Kearns: The last shark has a ring to it though, I'm not gonna lie.
- 50:49Jon: I think Cruel Jaws, like uses like B roll and like, like cut footage from Jaws.
- 50:57Kearns: Oh, that's rough.
- 50:58Jon: It's like they just ripped everything off.
- 51:02Ryan: reporter
- 51:02Jon: Hmm.
- 51:03Ryan: around.
- 51:05Masters
- 51:06Jon: Yep, So in Killer Fish Jewel Thieves attempt to recover their spoils only
- 51:10to find the water full of piranhas.
- 51:14Kearns: Killer fish.
- 51:15Yeah.
- 51:16Jon: And this star's Lee Majors
- 51:19Ryan: Okay.
- 51:20Jon: Karen Black and Quarterback Dan Pini.
- 51:26Kearns: You were gonna say running back OJ Simpson?
- 51:28Jon: just ran way more random than OJ Simpson.
- 51:32Dan Pini.
- 51:33Kearns: Yeah, that is a random one.
- 51:36Jon: Which goes, so that'll take us to number three, which is
- 51:40currently streaming free on YouTube.
- 51:43It's a movie called Barracuda.
- 51:45Ryan: Yep.
- 51:47Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 51:48Kearns: think I, I think Barracuda has crossed my path a few times, but
- 51:52I've never sat down and watched it.
- 51:54Jon: And not only is this a Jaws rip off, it's pretty much a pi rip off
- 51:58government, government messing around with fish again this time Barracuda.
- 52:02The altered fish through a small fishing village and, you know, carnage,
- 52:08Ryan: carnage.
- 52:09Jon: carnage,
- 52:09Kearns: you know, carnage.
- 52:13Jon: My number two recently had a sequel unearthed, and
- 52:19we're leaving the water now for
- 52:22Ryan: a sequel recently?
- 52:24Kearns: Oh, cool.
- 52:25Ryan: Yeah.
- 52:27Jon: Yep.
- 52:27Well, I mean, most, if not all of it was shot like 40 years
- 52:33ago and like lost or forgotten.
- 52:37Ryan: I'm down for that.
- 52:38Jon: I haven't
- 52:39Kearns: That is me,
- 52:40Jon: I'm sure it's not great, but
- 52:42Ryan: you know, fans of the first film.
- 52:44All right.
- 52:44Jon: Yeah.
- 52:47Yeah.
- 52:49in Grizzly, a large, angry grizzly rampage is through a state park or a ranger,
- 52:55part's like a, like some kind of bar joke.
- 52:57Ranger, a naturalist and a helicopter pilot tried to end its bloody reign.
- 53:03So
- 53:04Ryan: Walk in a bar.
- 53:05Kearns: a rabbi
- 53:06Jon: Grizzly was one of, if not the most successful
- 53:10Kearns: I.
- 53:11Jon: movies ever.
- 53:13Kearns: Wow.
- 53:14Jon: $39 million on a $750,000 budget, which.
- 53:19Kearns: Yes.
- 53:20Yes, we do
- 53:21Jon: couple years later.
- 53:22By Halloween.
- 53:25Kearns: slugs.
- 53:27Halloween is a jaws rip.
- 53:30Oh
- 53:30Doing it.
- 53:31Jon: is the,
- 53:33Kearns: Oh, okay.
- 53:34Got it.
- 53:34The one that bested it.
- 53:35Ryan: going.
- 53:36Jon: for a long, long time.
- 53:38Kearns: I mean, what beat it?
- 53:40Like what paranormal activity.
- 53:41What could have beaten that Halloween?
- 53:43Ryan: yeah.
- 53:44Blair Witch.
- 53:45Kearns: Probably the Blair Witch.
- 53:46Jon: Maybe Blair Witch.
- 53:48I'd have to go and I'd have to go and look for it, but,
- 53:53Kearns: Yeah.
- 53:54Jon: and my number one, one of my favorite of these rip offs,
- 53:58one of my favorite animal attack movies starring Robert Forster.
- 54:04alligator.
- 54:06Kearns: That one.
- 54:06So I love alligator.
- 54:08I loved Alligator ever since I was a kid.
- 54:10The scene in the pool is one of my favorite scenes ever.
- 54:14Jon: Love movie so much.
- 54:17Kearns: Turned what should be a terrible movie into a frigging gem.
- 54:21Jon: Yeah.
- 54:22So, RO Forster starts with a police detective in this movie about a pet
- 54:28alligator that gets flushed down a toilet and survives and grows
- 54:32into a giant monster in the sewers.
- 54:36Kearns: Are you hearing this?
- 54:38Did you see it get flushed down?
- 54:39And she gets it at like a fare.
- 54:41It goes down the toilet, into the sewers, into the sewers.
- 54:45Jon: So alligator, but no,
- 54:48Kearns: He ate all the Judds.
- 54:50Jon: ate 'em.
- 54:51Kearns: It's a big alligator.
- 54:52Jon: Alligator has a piranha tie in though,
- 54:54Ryan: Oh,
- 54:56Jon: John Sales
- 54:58Kearns: Oh, cool.
- 54:58Jon: who wrote Eight Men Out and Lone Star, and I believe
- 55:01he's Me Too canceled right now.
- 55:05Kearns: Lone star.
- 55:10Jon: So on that happy note.
- 55:11Kearns: Yeah, we don't like that.
- 55:12We don't like the Me too stuff.
- 55:14Well, we don't like that.
- 55:15People are doing things that are getting them.
- 55:16Me too.
- 55:17Jon: There needs to be a me too.
- 55:19Kearns: Hold on.
- 55:20First, can we talk about how Ryan's never seen alligator
- 55:22and why this makes us hate him?
- 55:24Can we talk about that?
- 55:25Yeah.
- 55:26Yeah.
- 55:27Jon: do you know how quickly that's getting moved onto the calendar
- 55:31Kearns: Oh, next week.
- 55:33Next week.
- 55:33Next week.
- 55:34Jon: week?
- 55:34It's clown.
- 55:35The cornfield.
- 55:35We gotta get away from the animals a little bit for a minute
- 55:38and clowning the cornfield.
- 55:39I, I think you guys are gonna kind of dig clown the cornfield.
- 55:44Kearns: Does it run through backwards
- 55:46Ryan: Is he?
- 55:47Kearns: pants?
- 55:48Jon: No, no.
- 55:50With that
- 55:50Kearns: No, that joke's older than me.
- 55:53All right.
- 55:54Alligator is a solid number one choice, Ryan.
- 55:57You're gonna love that frigging movie.
- 55:58That's great.
- 55:59That's a perfect summer, summer flick for you and, and your wife to watch.
- 56:03'cause it's a good movie.
- 56:04It's not like a good B movie.
- 56:07It's a good movie.
- 56:08Jon: forget going to see weapons.
- 56:10Forget going to see Superman.
- 56:13Alligator,
- 56:14Kearns: Yeah,
- 56:15Jon: alligator.
- 56:15Kearns: what else is even in theaters right now besides those two?
- 56:19See.
- 56:20Ryan: Toxic
- 56:21Jon: nobody too, I think,
- 56:23Kearns: Nobody too
- 56:25Jon: I don't know if Toxic
- 56:26Kearns: is in theaters right now.
- 56:27Jon: I don't think it's out yet.
- 56:29Kearns: Nobody.
- 56:29Two.
- 56:30Yeah, nobody two's out.
- 56:32Fantastic.
- 56:32Four.
- 56:35Screen unseen.
- 56:37This film is rated R. Okay.
- 56:43There's Za too.
- 56:44Never heard of it.
- 56:45Chainsaw Texas Chainsaw Day.
- 56:48This can't be right.
- 56:49Ryan: Chainsaw the 74 version.
- 56:51They're re-releasing it in theaters and also and TMNT.
- 56:57They're
- 56:57Kearns: Oh, interesting.
- 56:58August 18th.
- 57:01Yeah, I'm seeing that as well.
- 57:03Just for three days.
- 57:04August 17th or just for two days?
- 57:06At our local theater.
- 57:0717th.
- 57:07And then 20th.
- 57:08Ryan: Yep.
- 57:10Kearns: Oh, hin Godzilla is coming out too in 4K.
- 57:13Hell yeah.
- 57:13Jon: you're getting a Jaws 4K theatrical for Labor Day.
- 57:18Kearns: Shut your mouth.
- 57:20It looks like, it looks like they have a ludicrous amount of movies in
- 57:24the theater right now, which board?
- 57:26Americana.
- 57:27So basically what they're doing is, instead of the way it used to be where
- 57:30they had one theater dedicated to a film or one film stuck in each theater.
- 57:35They now put every movie in the universe and they just put Yeah, there's different
- 57:39showtimes that are in the same theater.
- 57:41That's interesting.
- 57:42So like Theater seven has Smurfs, Superman and Fantastic Four in it, for example.
- 57:48Ryan: miss eight millimeter film.
- 57:49Kearns: Yeah.
- 57:50Changes the game.
- 57:51Ryan: Gimme the old stuff.
- 57:53Once you see it, you can't go back.
- 57:57You can't go back.
- 58:02Kearns: Yeah, that's true.
- 58:04I'm stretching.
- 58:05You guys can't see My leg is just off camera.
- 58:08multitasking.
- 58:10I'm multitasking.
- 58:11There.
- 58:11It's there.
- 58:12It's
- 58:14just getting some advice from, from the PT there, but, all
- 58:17right guys, that was piranha too.
- 58:21They fly now or something stupid, some stupid subtitle.
- 58:25But yeah, I hope you enjoy the episode.
- 58:27Lance Hendrickson is Jesus.
- 58:29And James Cameron's a pretty good guy too.
- 58:32Jon: Yep.
- 58:35Ryan: Just hug it out.
- 58:36As Ari Gold would
- 58:37Kearns: Just hug it out.
- 58:38Ryan: bitch.
- 58:38Just hug it out.
- 58:42Kearns: Alright, I'll hug it out.
- 58:43Just hug it out.
- 58:44All right guys, we'll catch you next time later.
