- 0:06Speaker 3: We We we Got, we.
- 0:17Speaker 4: Got, We.
- 0:20Speaker 5: Got the Bodies at the bottom into tom presented by
- 0:25Speaker 5: via Toyota dot Com.
- 0:30Speaker 6: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. We are back here
- 0:34Speaker 6: live on Radio Row, super Bowl sixty. It's Deuce, it's Paul,
- 0:39Speaker 6: it's me. We'll have a parade of guests like we
- 0:42Speaker 6: did yesterday. It's gonna be even better than it was yesterday.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Guys, it's busier here than It's pretty wild.
- 0:48Speaker 7: It's pretty wild here at Radio Row.
- 0:50Speaker 6: We've seen Cam Newton, We've seen Dave Portnoy walk by,
- 0:53Speaker 6: Joe Montana's in the house, a lot a lot of
- 0:57Speaker 6: people just it's crazy and it's gonna get even crazy
- 1:00Speaker 6: here tomorrow and Friday.
- 1:01Speaker 8: So Fred, you f forgo out one person who I
- 1:03Speaker 8: just saw and I had to go smoke a cigarette afterwards,
- 1:06Speaker 8: and that's Dereck Henry. Everybody, Yes, if you're a pun
- 1:08Speaker 8: whoa Dereck Henry is in the house. I don't know
- 1:11Speaker 8: if we're able to get him on the show here,
- 1:12Speaker 8: but but I took some pictures of him and I'll
- 1:15Speaker 8: savor those forever.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:16Speaker 6: Okay, So it's it's pretty wild here, all right. So
- 1:22Speaker 6: we've got a big show today. We'll be here until
- 1:24Speaker 6: five o'clock Eastern time, four hours. Like I said, we'll
- 1:29Speaker 6: have some special guests. I don't like to give it
- 1:31Speaker 6: away because you never know what's gonna happen. Maybe somebody
- 1:35Speaker 6: that we didn't expect will come on and bump somebody
- 1:37Speaker 6: else off. Who knows, But so it's gonna be wild.
- 1:41Speaker 6: But anyway, it's state five, five past five hundred. As always,
- 1:44Speaker 6: podcast at Patriots dot com is the way to email us.
- 1:48Speaker 6: So guys, let's let's talk a little football before we
- 1:51Speaker 6: get into all the other crazy stuff. Any you know,
- 1:55Speaker 6: Robert Spallaine I saw in his availability today says he's
- 1:59Speaker 6: one hundred percent sure that he'll be playing.
- 2:01Speaker 7: That's good news, good news.
- 2:03Speaker 8: What percentage will he be playing at that's probably the
- 2:05Speaker 8: bigger question. But he's a huge part of that defense, leader, communicator, tackler,
- 2:11Speaker 8: huge to get him back, and I think that would
- 2:13Speaker 8: be a great boost for the Patriots defense. They need him,
- 2:15Speaker 8: They need him in this game for sure.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:16Speaker 9: A good sign though that he's feeling that strong about it.
- 2:20Speaker 9: And we'll see about Harold Landry too. But I agree
- 2:24Speaker 9: with Mike. I think Splaine's presence in the middle, if
- 2:26Speaker 9: for nothing else, the communication of it all, keeping that
- 2:29Speaker 9: whole group connected. I think that all the players talked
- 2:33Speaker 9: about the differences when he returned. And I think there's
- 2:37Speaker 9: no disrespect to the guys that played, because I think
- 2:38Speaker 9: they played well. You know, Christian Ellis and Jack Gibbons,
- 2:41Speaker 9: those guys, they filled in very well. But I think
- 2:44Speaker 9: there's definitely a loss there without Splaine.
- 2:46Speaker 7: Yeah, no question.
- 2:47Speaker 6: So you know, staying at the defense, we have a
- 2:51Speaker 6: kind of commute every day that we have to take
- 2:54Speaker 6: two we get here from the team hotel. We all
- 2:56Speaker 6: we got and it's similar to the commute I take
- 2:59Speaker 6: every day from home to Foxborough.
- 3:02Speaker 7: So I have a chance to reread thoughts.
- 3:04Speaker 6: Yeah, thoughts with Fred and you know, for our betting
- 3:06Speaker 6: friends out there, I know that we're not allowed to,
- 3:08Speaker 6: but you know we're kind of touts.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Well you are, yeah, you are, and you are eleven
- 3:15Speaker 1: and one.
- 3:16Speaker 6: I was thinking that it might be good value. And
- 3:20Speaker 6: I don't know if any of the books or the
- 3:22Speaker 6: houses are offering this proposition, but if they're not, you know,
- 3:27Speaker 6: uh you should.
- 3:29Speaker 7: Milton Williams M V. P Yeah.
- 3:32Speaker 9: Yeah, I think he'll he'll have odds because he won't
- 3:34Speaker 9: have the best odds. No, it'll be really hard. It's
- 3:39Speaker 9: probably been I don't know, twenty years.
- 3:42Speaker 7: Yep, Aaron Donald didn't have an m VP.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I don't believe. I believe Cooper Cup won.
- 3:49Speaker 9: The Mvpper Bowl, right, but Aaron Donald absolutely could have been.
- 3:53Speaker 9: And that kind of shows you how difficult it is.
- 3:55Speaker 9: So you'd you'd get excellent odds ready.
- 3:57Speaker 7: Right for that pick. And that's why I think it's
- 3:59Speaker 7: and that's a good it's good value.
- 4:00Speaker 1: It's a good one because I think it's a possibility.
- 4:02Speaker 6: Yeah, And I think that for the Patriots to win
- 4:05Speaker 6: this game, he's got to play have a good game.
- 4:07Speaker 7: Yeah, to back the up.
- 4:08Speaker 8: Fred Seattle one of the worst offenses, if not the
- 4:11Speaker 8: worst on third and long. So that's Milton Williams time
- 4:13Speaker 8: to shine. They can get him into third and long
- 4:16Speaker 8: opportunities for mil Williams.
- 4:17Speaker 6: To con So, you know, I often have my feels,
- 4:20Speaker 6: and I'm feeling it. I'm feeling Milton Williams as a
- 4:23Speaker 6: big factor in this game and a big reason why
- 4:26Speaker 6: the Patriots might come away with a victors.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Pilton Williams feel about Freddie feeling him.
- 4:31Speaker 8: He's getting felt up by Freddie Fields. I love it, though,
- 4:33Speaker 8: Fred I mean, mil Williams has been outstanding, and I
- 4:36Speaker 8: think you don't know what you got till it's gone, right, Paul,
- 4:39Speaker 8: And when Milton Williams went out of.
- 4:40Speaker 7: The lineup, you saw it.
- 4:42Speaker 8: You saw a little dip in the play. You know,
- 4:44Speaker 8: not just the past defense, but the run defense too.
- 4:46Speaker 8: So he's a super disruptive guy. He walks guards back
- 4:50Speaker 8: into the backfield all the time.
- 4:52Speaker 7: They're gonna need him.
- 4:52Speaker 8: And I just love the experience too, of him playing
- 4:55Speaker 8: in the Super Bowl last year.
- 4:56Speaker 7: Knowing what it takes.
- 4:57Speaker 8: He's not gonna be overwhelmed by this moment. And I
- 4:59Speaker 8: think that's up for him to come out and play
- 5:01Speaker 8: loose and free and play fast and play well.
- 5:03Speaker 9: Absolutely, And if I'm not mistaken, I'd have to look
- 5:07Speaker 9: this up. And you know me, I'm not not much
- 5:09Speaker 9: on the on the research for the year I go
- 5:11Speaker 9: off the Dome, you know, off the Dome, I would
- 5:14Speaker 9: say Richard Dent against the.
- 5:16Speaker 7: Patriots, Wow, okay wow.
- 5:18Speaker 9: But I don't know if there's been a defensive lineman definitely,
- 5:21Speaker 9: Randy White Harvey Martin split it in seventy seven Duce
- 5:24Speaker 9: in Super Bowl twelve, again off the dome.
- 5:27Speaker 8: Yeah, it's interesting that for that defense, it's so like
- 5:29Speaker 8: the forty six defense, it was just kind of known
- 5:31Speaker 8: as a singular, singular entity and not really Richard Dent specifically.
- 5:36Speaker 7: So I'm interesting that he.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Got sure that Richard Dent won the MVP.
- 5:39Speaker 8: Having just rewatched that game, I can attest just about
- 5:42Speaker 8: anybody on the.
- 5:43Speaker 6: Bears defense ninety six against Green Bay who was MVP.
- 5:46Speaker 6: Does Howard kick off return? Yeah, that's right. Oh man,
- 5:50Speaker 6: I was gonna say Reggie White could have easily had
- 5:52Speaker 6: it too.
- 5:52Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean I I wouldn't given it to someone
- 5:56Speaker 9: on offense, But what about Brett Fervor, Yeah, I mean
- 6:00Speaker 9: you could have given it to I think Desmond how
- 6:02Speaker 9: It was probably a good, good pick though, Yeah, had
- 6:05Speaker 9: a had.
- 6:05Speaker 4: A major impact in the game.
- 6:07Speaker 7: Ye, all right, So I was just thinking about that.
- 6:10Speaker 6: Then the other thing we were talking last night, you know,
- 6:13Speaker 6: at the hotel, and we were talking about Gonzo and uh,
- 6:18Speaker 6: I think I forget which one of you said that
- 6:22Speaker 6: they were told by a coach that he is a
- 6:24Speaker 6: photographic metor.
- 6:26Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I think that was Evan that uh that
- 6:27Speaker 7: shared that with us. Uh.
- 6:29Speaker 8: Really impressive. I mean it's uh, I mean, what this
- 6:32Speaker 8: guy's got like all the athletic gifts in the universe,
- 6:35Speaker 8: and he gets a photographic memory too, What do I get?
- 6:39Speaker 6: So we're gonna have to test that. We're gonna uh,
- 6:41Speaker 6: We're gonna have.
- 6:42Speaker 7: To show him, don't get quit the availabilities.
- 6:44Speaker 6: This week we'll have Evan or somebody, uh, you know,
- 6:48Speaker 6: tests that photographic memory. But that's interesting because they say
- 6:52Speaker 6: that he often corrects the coaches. Yeah, he says no, no, no,
- 6:55Speaker 6: that's not how it is, you know, and he's he's
- 6:58Speaker 6: usually right.
- 6:59Speaker 8: It's a good quest at the skill. Maybe we can
- 7:00Speaker 8: get him on the trivia team or something like that.
- 7:02Speaker 8: I mean, how else does this manifest itself so we
- 7:05Speaker 8: can take advantage of But I think, you know, joking aside,
- 7:07Speaker 8: Christian Gonzalez and that's been I've been lucky enough to
- 7:10Speaker 8: do a couple of radio hits this morning television hit
- 7:12Speaker 8: Seattle Morning Television, thank you. And that's what everybody you
- 7:15Speaker 8: know really wants to talk about, is Christian Gonzalez on JSN.
- 7:18Speaker 8: And I think we said it yesterday. You can't just Okay,
- 7:23Speaker 8: that's it, Set it and forget it. Follow them all
- 7:24Speaker 8: like it's that's impossible with the way they move JSN
- 7:27Speaker 8: around and just how good JSN is, Like I just
- 7:29Speaker 8: I think you could have Durell Reeve's tie Law and
- 7:32Speaker 8: everybody else in one cornerback and JSM would still make
- 7:35Speaker 8: plays with the way he's playing this year.
- 7:37Speaker 7: So critical third.
- 7:38Speaker 8: Downs, that's what I'm watching. The gotta have its the
- 7:40Speaker 8: the third and mediums, Paul, you know, I like, uh,
- 7:42Speaker 8: those are the downs I did. I'm not not not
- 7:45Speaker 8: for this game yet, so I'll get on that. But
- 7:47Speaker 8: that's where I think it's Christian Gonzalees time to shine.
- 7:49Speaker 8: And I said it during the regular season. When you
- 7:50Speaker 8: get in the playoffs, I don't know how the matchup's going.
- 7:53Speaker 7: To go, but I feel good having we get a.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Chance to see some of it. Absolutely.
- 7:57Speaker 9: You know, you want to see the best on the best,
- 7:59Speaker 9: and and that's in this game. The Patriots best corner
- 8:02Speaker 9: is Gonzales And obviously, you know you can make an
- 8:05Speaker 9: argument that Jasn has been the best receiver in football period.
- 8:07Speaker 8: Him a pooka, I mean him, Yeah, it's one or
- 8:10Speaker 8: the other. Yeah, Now that's what I in the Seattle Radio.
- 8:12Speaker 8: That's that's what I said to them that I mean,
- 8:14Speaker 8: he's Christian. Goandal has been really good. But it's just
- 8:16Speaker 8: exciting as a football fan to get to watch two
- 8:19Speaker 8: guys that are that good, that athletic. It's gonna be
- 8:22Speaker 8: really fun to watch those guys.
- 8:24Speaker 7: Did my cough button work?
- 8:25Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 8:26Speaker 1: Yeah, okaye, I think I just heard the cough live
- 8:28Speaker 1: instead of the headphones.
- 8:31Speaker 7: All right, and then there was one other thing that
- 8:33Speaker 7: I wanted to talk about.
- 8:36Speaker 6: All right, never mind, all right, Podcasts at Patriots dot
- 8:39Speaker 6: com is the way to email us eight five to five,
- 8:42Speaker 6: PATS five hundred is the hotline.
- 8:45Speaker 10: Again.
- 8:45Speaker 6: We're gonna have a parade of guests starting. Uh, let's
- 8:50Speaker 6: meet at Kimes. I think it's gonna be.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Our lead off. She's in the lead off spot.
- 8:54Speaker 7: Yeah about ten and Evan is gonna effort to be here.
- 8:58Speaker 8: He's bombing here. I'm sure he cannot missed that.
- 9:00Speaker 7: No, he set it up. Yeah, that is that is
- 9:02Speaker 7: his interview time to shine ten forty.
- 9:05Speaker 9: We're expecting me in the times. Yeah, so hopefully we
- 9:09Speaker 9: get a few. We're trying to get some more too. Uh,
- 9:11Speaker 9: you know, it's it's a very active. Oh, it's just
- 9:13Speaker 9: a media center looking at.
- 9:14Speaker 7: Chris right over here.
- 9:16Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean it's just there everywhere cam Com News
- 9:18Speaker 8: or Kyle. I think it was crowded.
- 9:21Speaker 7: I saw Kyle, I didn't see Chris. Yeah, that's Chris is.
- 9:24Speaker 8: Sitting over there.
- 9:25Speaker 7: Yeah, okay talking to uh that guy.
- 9:29Speaker 9: Okay, it's not gonna the man, the person over there.
- 9:33Speaker 7: Chris, of course, was a Patriot for a year. Yeah,
- 9:36Speaker 7: he was an Eagle for the next year.
- 9:38Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 9:38Speaker 8: He won Super Bowls back to back years with different teams,
- 9:41Speaker 8: which Milton Williams could potentially do a.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Reverse Chris Long if you Legarrett Blunt also real.
- 9:47Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, well we hap him. We had him on
- 9:49Speaker 7: and we were ask him about it. That was fun.
- 9:52Speaker 6: Let's see johna South Carolina was watching a video where
- 9:55Speaker 6: Tom was talking up May how he plays moves in
- 9:59Speaker 6: his arm. That doesn't go along with the emailer who
- 10:02Speaker 6: said he only saw ten passes, not saying which one
- 10:04Speaker 6: is right just makes me question it. So what was he?
- 10:08Speaker 7: There was an email that that said Tom only watched
- 10:10Speaker 7: ten of his passes. Yeah, that's what I don't know.
- 10:12Speaker 9: I said, you've seen about fifteen players from Drake May
- 10:14Speaker 9: all year. Yeah, And I said, I find out really
- 10:17Speaker 9: hard to believe because, yeah, he's in you know, the
- 10:21Speaker 9: the number one analyst on Fox, and he's not watching
- 10:25Speaker 9: all of the teams, of course he is.
- 10:27Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Well, Tom is getting a lot of grief these days.
- 10:30Speaker 7: Eh.
- 10:31Speaker 6: You know, he's not for Patriots fans. He's not giving
- 10:35Speaker 6: us enough love, all right.
- 10:37Speaker 8: Like, what more do you need from the guy? I mean,
- 10:39Speaker 8: he gave you six super Bowls, he gave you twenty
- 10:42Speaker 8: of the best years of your life. Wait, like, do
- 10:44Speaker 8: you need him to continue to be a cheerleader for
- 10:46Speaker 8: the team. I looked at that TV twelve night that
- 10:49Speaker 8: we did when he went into the Hall of Fame,
- 10:50Speaker 8: and I said, you know what, this is the button
- 10:52Speaker 8: on this They gave him a statue. It was an
- 10:54Speaker 8: awesome time. We've closed the book, just like he probably hasn't.
- 10:58Speaker 8: I just don't know why we continue to be so
- 11:00Speaker 8: needy from Tom Brady. He's gone on to do different things.
- 11:03Speaker 8: He gave us everything you could ever ask for. It
- 11:05Speaker 8: doesn't matter to me, you know, if he's gonna still
- 11:07Speaker 8: be our biggest.
- 11:07Speaker 7: Fan, I don't know. I kind of understand it.
- 11:11Speaker 6: I understand why fans are a little bit upset about
- 11:15Speaker 6: that because you know, after so many years, we had
- 11:19Speaker 6: this dynasty and you know, like it's something that we
- 11:24Speaker 6: treasure and we want it forever and we want it
- 11:27Speaker 6: to be complete. And without Tom Brady, like you know, it's.
- 11:32Speaker 8: Like we kind of don't have to like continuing to
- 11:35Speaker 8: be around and and like things, I mean, or.
- 11:38Speaker 7: At least reminding everybody that, yeah, I was a Patriot.
- 11:41Speaker 8: But but I but I also see there are certain
- 11:44Speaker 8: you know, Patriots alumni that like they're always there and
- 11:47Speaker 8: it's not really all that exciting, like you know anymore
- 11:50Speaker 8: like that the novelties worn't off. I think now when
- 11:52Speaker 8: you get to see Tom Brady participating in something for
- 11:55Speaker 8: the Patriots or in some capacity that then then it's exciting.
- 11:57Speaker 8: But I don't know, man, I'm so focused on this
- 12:00Speaker 8: current team and where this team is gonna go and
- 12:03Speaker 8: not living in the past and wondering Tom Brady is
- 12:05Speaker 8: a part owner of the Raiders.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Now he's Mike doesn't have any time for that.
- 12:11Speaker 7: I was here and I don't like him now right.
- 12:15Speaker 9: Correct, Mike doesn't have any time for the past, but
- 12:17Speaker 9: I do. I'm kind of like in the middle of
- 12:20Speaker 9: you two guys. I understand what Fred's talking about. And
- 12:23Speaker 9: I and I would, you know, as as a you know,
- 12:25Speaker 9: were separating myself from what we do for a living
- 12:29Speaker 9: as a Patriots fan. It is a little disappointing that
- 12:31Speaker 9: he doesn't seem to be as enthusiastic about I guess,
- 12:37Speaker 9: you know. I don't think he's necessarily openly like bitter,
- 12:41Speaker 9: you know. And there's been some guys that have left
- 12:44Speaker 9: and have really trashed the place, and I don't really
- 12:46Speaker 9: see Brady doing that. I think he still has a
- 12:48Speaker 9: lot of respect for you know, Robert Kraft and the
- 12:50Speaker 9: Craft family and whatnot in the organization itself. And we
- 12:53Speaker 9: remember what he said right what he said at the
- 12:57Speaker 9: UH at the event at the Hall, the Hall of
- 13:00Speaker 9: Fame ceremony about being a Patriot for life. But we
- 13:04Speaker 9: do have to remember that even though he was a
- 13:06Speaker 9: Patriot for so long he didn't have success with another team,
- 13:09Speaker 9: he did grow up admiring a separate team altogether. From that,
- 13:14Speaker 9: so the fact that it's not just all about the
- 13:16Speaker 9: Patriots for him, maybe I can understand both.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Sides a little bit, a little bit.
- 13:20Speaker 7: I don't know what what what he did here was
- 13:23Speaker 7: pretty remarkable, so I know, it's.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Pretty remarkable that Evan Lazar made it here so fast.
- 13:28Speaker 6: Yeah, Evan's herepressive, he's just getting set up.
- 13:31Speaker 7: I do have some news for people, guess.
- 13:33Speaker 6: I guess there was a social post that went out
- 13:36Speaker 6: yesterday about this, but I didn't see it, so I'm
- 13:39Speaker 6: assuming that maybe some fans didn't see it. But if
- 13:41Speaker 6: you're in the San Francisco area for the Super Bowl
- 13:46Speaker 6: and you're looking for the Patriots place to be, there's
- 13:50Speaker 6: gonna be a couple of rallies Friday night.
- 13:54Speaker 9: It's it's.
- 13:59Speaker 6: Friday night from four to seven at a place called
- 14:02Speaker 6: Underdogs Cantina that's in San Francisco. That's Friday at four
- 14:07Speaker 6: to seven. There'll be a Patriot's rally there. And then
- 14:10Speaker 6: on Saturday at a place called Splash Sports Bar that's
- 14:15Speaker 6: from three to six. That's on Saturday. Both those places
- 14:19Speaker 6: are in San Francisco. Okay, that's knocking over tables here,
- 14:22Speaker 6: Oh whoa, whoa, yep. So we've got Underdogs Cantina from
- 14:28Speaker 6: four to seven on Friday and then Splash Sports Bar
- 14:32Speaker 6: from three to six on Saturday.
- 14:34Speaker 7: So those are the two rally places for Patriots fans.
- 14:38Speaker 6: I'm sure, they'll be giveaways, cheerleaders, mascot, all kinds of
- 14:42Speaker 6: stuff going on there. So we'll say it later on
- 14:45Speaker 6: in the show as well, but just wanted to get
- 14:47Speaker 6: that news out there. So that's good stuff.
- 14:50Speaker 8: And then we see, h are we allowed to say
- 14:52Speaker 8: there's a live taping as well going on on Saturday?
- 14:55Speaker 7: I would love to.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I just don't know where it is.
- 14:57Speaker 7: Oh yeah, that'll be uh one.
- 14:59Speaker 4: Yeah that' Saturday.
- 15:02Speaker 6: Soul is where they're gonna also tape all access.
- 15:07Speaker 9: So you know, you play your cards right. Maybe you
- 15:08Speaker 9: can have a beer. Maybe you could buy me a beer.
- 15:11Speaker 9: PAULI will be there.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Let's let's get crazy about the night.
- 15:14Speaker 7: Yeah, going on, I'm a little slack. How was your drive?
- 15:21Speaker 12: It wasn't terrible terrible today terrible. You know, I'm one
- 15:26Speaker 12: of those people that can work.
- 15:27Speaker 4: In the car, so that was kind of nice.
- 15:30Speaker 7: Got some I saw that come through.
- 15:32Speaker 12: Everything's done breaking down the old twenty two of course,
- 15:35Speaker 12: you know cover six.
- 15:36Speaker 8: You know, I thought you were going to fight dan Orlowsky.
- 15:39Speaker 8: He was right here, we're ball now we're friends. So
- 15:45Speaker 8: you were at a little bit of the access this morning.
- 15:47Speaker 4: I was at most of it.
- 15:48Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, we talked.
- 15:50Speaker 6: About Splene you mention thing that he's ready to go. Yeah,
- 15:54Speaker 6: what else did you learn today?
- 15:56Speaker 12: Honestly, you know, the these ones have been pretty subdue,
- 16:00Speaker 12: But I think the the general gist of Mike Rable
- 16:04Speaker 12: this morning was just let's go time now, you know,
- 16:07Speaker 12: And we got kind of the you're at the super
- 16:10Speaker 12: Bowl yeay, you know, like that's that's sort of done,
- 16:12Speaker 12: and now these next forty eight hours. He used his
- 16:16Speaker 12: favorite phrase, critical for the next for the next forty
- 16:20Speaker 12: eight hours, that Chris is down to brass tacks, start
- 16:24Speaker 12: the game plan and and get everything installed and get
- 16:27Speaker 12: ready for Seattle. And he mentioned the family is coming
- 16:31Speaker 12: in and all that stuff. The weekend can kind of
- 16:34Speaker 12: get a little hectic again. So U I think that
- 16:37Speaker 12: right now they're trying to get it back to football
- 16:40Speaker 12: as much as they possibly can.
- 16:42Speaker 6: So before you got here, I was talking about another
- 16:44Speaker 6: one of my Freddie Field's premonitions, Yes, and I was
- 16:48Speaker 6: saying that if you're a better and you can get
- 16:51Speaker 6: a proposition of Milton Williams as MVP.
- 16:54Speaker 4: As V take it, take the bet, it's gonna need
- 16:57Speaker 4: a stripsack in there.
- 16:58Speaker 7: What do you think about that?
- 16:59Speaker 12: I mean, I definitely think that that's a matchup that
- 17:01Speaker 12: they're going to try to exploit their interior three. You know,
- 17:05Speaker 12: Zabel is a good rookie, but he's a rookie kind
- 17:08Speaker 12: of like the Patriots rookies has had some ups and downs.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Uh, they're right.
- 17:12Speaker 12: Guard is another guy that I think a lot of
- 17:15Speaker 12: people troubles are talking about.
- 17:17Speaker 4: Bradford is someone that they can target. So I think
- 17:21Speaker 4: that's the game.
- 17:22Speaker 12: You know, on both sides, the ball really is how
- 17:24Speaker 12: well can the Patriots offensive line hold up against Seattle's
- 17:27Speaker 12: pass rush and vice versa. In whichever team survives that
- 17:31Speaker 12: matchup in the trenches is probably gonna win.
- 17:33Speaker 9: So I just thought, again, using off the top of
- 17:35Speaker 9: my dome, I think the last time the Super Bowl
- 17:38Speaker 9: was here, super Bowl fifty, right in Santa Clara, Denver
- 17:43Speaker 9: over Carolina. I think von Miller may have been the
- 17:46Speaker 9: MVP of the Oh there you go, so you got
- 17:49Speaker 9: some karma the last time it was in Santa Clara.
- 17:51Speaker 7: For I think you can't the MVP of that. He didn't.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Try to.
- 17:58Speaker 7: He's over there by the way. Yeah, well he's got
- 18:00Speaker 7: a great hat on back at you.
- 18:02Speaker 12: We were actually talking talking to Josh McDaniel's a little
- 18:06Speaker 12: bit this morning, and he mentioned Cam Newton for very
- 18:09Speaker 12: different reasons. But we were talking about installing plays to
- 18:14Speaker 12: use Drake's mobility in the offense, and I was just
- 18:18Speaker 12: asking him about how different that is from you know,
- 18:21Speaker 12: his experience really for the most of his career has
- 18:24Speaker 12: been with stationary quarterbacks like Brady, and he did mention
- 18:27Speaker 12: Cam as probably the biggest inspiration for some of the
- 18:31Speaker 12: things that they've done. But he mentioned that, you know,
- 18:33Speaker 12: Cam was a different beast. You know, he's a two
- 18:35Speaker 12: hundred and fifty pound battering ram. But a lot of
- 18:38Speaker 12: the things that they've installed with Drake may he said
- 18:41Speaker 12: his first real taste.
- 18:43Speaker 4: Of that was with Cam Newton in twenty twenty.
- 18:45Speaker 6: Yeah, just saw Tony Tony Dungee walk by, and he
- 18:48Speaker 6: made some ripples because he refuses to say who we
- 18:52Speaker 6: voted for for the Hall of Fame.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Well you know what that means?
- 18:56Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, so but I guess Belichick lost by
- 19:00Speaker 6: one vote, that's the reporting. Yeah, so he could have
- 19:04Speaker 6: he could have changed that. Nope, yeah, could have all right,
- 19:09Speaker 6: not tonight. Yeah, but we're we're seeing people walk by.
- 19:12Speaker 6: It's it's an exciting place. Right now.
- 19:14Speaker 8: It's a lot more people watching today as it's just
- 19:16Speaker 8: you know, everybody just crosses your I.
- 19:18Speaker 7: Mean we saw C. D.
- 19:19Speaker 8: Lamb walk by and if you caught him, like, it's
- 19:22Speaker 8: just a parade of NFL players.
- 19:25Speaker 6: Uh, David Monterey, I've been telling my friends that I'm
- 19:28Speaker 6: a Patriots fan and my quarterback is Drake may.
- 19:30Speaker 7: I think that makes it.
- 19:31Speaker 6: Clear that we're onto the next dynasty and focused on
- 19:34Speaker 6: who's the team now. So forget about Tom Brady, he says,
- 19:38Speaker 6: you don't.
- 19:38Speaker 4: Have to forget about Mike. No, you don't forget.
- 19:41Speaker 7: You don't have to be sad it was over. Just
- 19:42Speaker 7: be happy that it happened.
- 19:44Speaker 8: Yeah, all right, sound like the Navy celia.
- 19:50Speaker 7: On the right.
- 19:50Speaker 9: You're on the right side. You're on the right side
- 19:52Speaker 9: of the equals sign. But don't forget about the people
- 19:54Speaker 9: that got you to that on the left side.
- 19:56Speaker 7: That's right. Do you have your map?
- 19:57Speaker 8: Yeah no, there were a couple of people that were
- 19:59Speaker 8: subtracting on that.
- 20:00Speaker 7: That's all right, Okay, let's see Sam and Halifax UK.
- 20:07Speaker 6: With all the talk about Seattle being a scheme, Defense
- 20:10Speaker 6: and Evan mentioning last week the possibility that the complex
- 20:13Speaker 6: scheme could land defenders out of position. Does this present
- 20:16Speaker 6: an opportunity for Henderson to find to crease it hit
- 20:19Speaker 6: a big play. It's likely he might struggle in terms
- 20:22Speaker 6: of traditional running, but I'm feeling a forty plus yard
- 20:25Speaker 6: play from him this game day.
- 20:27Speaker 9: Yeah, we talked about that a little bit yesterday. I
- 20:29Speaker 9: think your better chances of production in the running game,
- 20:33Speaker 9: I think is something like that as opposed to lining
- 20:36Speaker 9: up traditionally and getting them for five yards of carry.
- 20:39Speaker 9: They were really stout run defense. They only allow about
- 20:41Speaker 9: ninety yards. But all defense is susceptible to one big play.
- 20:45Speaker 9: I mean, you never know if you crease somebody, you
- 20:48Speaker 9: block one up perfectly and Henderson, you know, hits it,
- 20:51Speaker 9: and you know that's go back to whatever that stretch
- 20:55Speaker 9: was Tampa, you know, the stretched to like Buffalo where
- 20:59Speaker 9: it was all of a sudden he was big play
- 21:00Speaker 9: after big play. Maybe one of those turns to Super Bowl.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:03Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 21:04Speaker 12: He averaged, I believe, near the top of the league
- 21:08Speaker 12: in terms of average yards per carry against two high
- 21:12Speaker 12: safety shelves, which is what Seattle bases their defense out
- 21:16Speaker 12: of more than any other defense in the league. They
- 21:18Speaker 12: played two ice safeties at like seventy five clip and Henderson,
- 21:22Speaker 12: you know, lighter boxes, more space to kind of see increases.
- 21:25Speaker 4: And maneuver in there. The hope is is that maybe
- 21:29Speaker 4: he could spring one.
- 21:31Speaker 12: But I think the the other side of it, though,
- 21:33Speaker 12: is do you trust him to hold up in pass
- 21:35Speaker 12: protection because McDonald is gonna, you know, scheme it up
- 21:38Speaker 12: in the pass rush and they're gonna probably blitz a
- 21:41Speaker 12: good amount. And if he's gonna be on the field
- 21:43Speaker 12: for any sort of high volume snaps or you're gonna
- 21:46Speaker 12: trust him to pick up blitzes like Ramandre Can And
- 21:49Speaker 12: I would just say that there's a handful of big
- 21:52Speaker 12: plays that the pitches have made over the last four
- 21:56Speaker 12: to six weeks that have been almost directly responsible are
- 22:00Speaker 12: Stevenson Yeah.
- 22:01Speaker 9: Yeah, you know, and not necessarily because he was making
- 22:03Speaker 9: the play with the ball in his hands, but making
- 22:06Speaker 9: it possible for Drake May to hit somebody with his blocking.
- 22:09Speaker 8: Yeah, he's kind of my X factor for this game.
- 22:11Speaker 8: I don't think anybody's really talking about him, and I
- 22:13Speaker 8: think it's a good example of somebody's playing really great
- 22:16Speaker 8: football here down the stretch, maybe the best football of
- 22:18Speaker 8: his career all around game, and that to me. You know,
- 22:21Speaker 8: I know it's a really tough defense, but it's one
- 22:23Speaker 8: of those things you keep hammering away, hammering away, and
- 22:26Speaker 8: you hope at some point Ormondre or Henderson maybe breaks one.
- 22:28Speaker 6: Yeah, let's try to get some phone calls in here.
- 22:31Speaker 6: We'll start with Cole and Nebraska. What's up, Cole?
- 22:37Speaker 7: How are you doing good?
- 22:40Speaker 13: Hey?
- 22:40Speaker 14: Guys, how you got a question for you? I grew
- 22:42Speaker 14: up understanding that Bill Belichick one of his greatest pass
- 22:47Speaker 14: just eliminating the.
- 22:48Speaker 10: Best player on the team.
- 22:50Speaker 14: Let's say, hypothetically we eliminate this.
- 22:53Speaker 15: Where do the guys stand up on our defense first
- 22:56Speaker 15: arrest of their offense?
- 22:58Speaker 7: So what if we eliminate JSN, what's what's.
- 23:03Speaker 14: The rest of the defense matchup against the rest of
- 23:09Speaker 14: set off?
- 23:11Speaker 8: I mean the tight end, I think, I mean he
- 23:12Speaker 8: he had a bunch of catches and he's a big boy.
- 23:14Speaker 8: I think a lot of their early down stuff they
- 23:16Speaker 8: they like to go to him. I think they love
- 23:18Speaker 8: to pound Kenneth Walker. So I'd start with those two guys,
- 23:21Speaker 8: of course. Rashid Shaheed downfield speed. I mean, you just
- 23:24Speaker 8: you can't get beat. You can't give up a giant
- 23:26Speaker 8: score to that guy. They've obviously already played him this
- 23:28Speaker 8: year when he was on the Saints. Still, so those
- 23:32Speaker 8: are those are the three main I mean, I think
- 23:33Speaker 8: it just all starts with stopping down.
- 23:35Speaker 6: How about Seattle other than JSN, And we've talked about
- 23:38Speaker 6: this before and thanks for the call. Call is that
- 23:41Speaker 6: they're a balanced team, Like like there's nobody you know,
- 23:46Speaker 6: when you look at the numbers that is you know,
- 23:49Speaker 6: close to you know, one hundred catches, but it's spread
- 23:54Speaker 6: out outside of Jay, outside of JSN, it's spread out.
- 23:58Speaker 6: Now when they lost Sara, I know, Evan, you kind
- 24:02Speaker 6: of poop pooed it, but I think that was a
- 24:03Speaker 6: big loss for them.
- 24:04Speaker 12: I think it's a big loss for them. And Blitz
- 24:06Speaker 12: pick up. He's he's definitely the better player in terms
- 24:09Speaker 12: of blocking. Kenneth Walker is a far more dynamic runner
- 24:12Speaker 12: and has had a great playoffs. So I didn't really
- 24:15Speaker 12: expect Charbonay to play a ton outside of you know,
- 24:19Speaker 12: third down situational stuff where he's got to pick up
- 24:22Speaker 12: blocks or you know, in terms of like short yardage,
- 24:25Speaker 12: which is where he played a lot.
- 24:26Speaker 6: But I also see like when they needed stuff, he's
- 24:29Speaker 6: kind of a go to guy on the ground and
- 24:32Speaker 6: I see him picking up critical you.
- 24:35Speaker 12: Know, in short yardage, definitely. I mean, he's a battering ram,
- 24:37Speaker 12: He's a big dude. They won't have that ability. I
- 24:40Speaker 12: think the biggest thing with Seattle when you see teams
- 24:43Speaker 12: that have had success against their offense, it's really those
- 24:46Speaker 12: six man defensive line fronts that the Patriots actually kind
- 24:49Speaker 12: of started in Super Bowl fifty three. And then you
- 24:52Speaker 12: play with the two safeties over the top to put
- 24:54Speaker 12: a cloud, put a you know, two guys over the
- 24:57Speaker 12: top of their receivers. So can you stop the run
- 25:00Speaker 12: with six or seven guys and be able to do that,
- 25:03Speaker 12: I think is going to be one of the keys.
- 25:05Speaker 4: To the game. They run a lot of that stretch
- 25:07Speaker 4: play outside zone.
- 25:09Speaker 12: He's a Shanahan offense, Shanahan Tree type of offense, and
- 25:13Speaker 12: that's what they're gonna do. So if you can go
- 25:14Speaker 12: out there and stop the run like the Patriots have
- 25:17Speaker 12: been this postseason so far really well, then I think
- 25:21Speaker 12: that you like your chances of getting them into some
- 25:23Speaker 12: of these bad situations for their The.
- 25:25Speaker 9: Last thing that Evan just said is the reason to
- 25:27Speaker 9: answer the question if they somehow hypothetically took JSN out
- 25:31Speaker 9: of the game. I don't think the Seahawks offense would
- 25:33Speaker 9: present much of a challenge because now it's on Kenneth Walker.
- 25:36Speaker 9: The Patriots run defense has been ridiculously stout when healthy.
- 25:40Speaker 9: I just don't see Seattle finding answers if you take
- 25:43Speaker 9: away something that's that big a piece of the puzzle.
- 25:47Speaker 12: Yeah, one of the biggest mismatches in this game is
- 25:50Speaker 12: Seattle and third and long versus the Patriots defense and
- 25:53Speaker 12: third and long. The Patriots defense number one in the
- 25:55Speaker 12: league in third down and long conversion rate. The Seattle's
- 25:59Speaker 12: thirty first in the league converting third and longs offensively.
- 26:03Speaker 12: So when you get him to third and long, when
- 26:05Speaker 12: you get pressure on Donald, he's not the same quarterback.
- 26:08Speaker 12: You know, he's not nearly as good in those types
- 26:11Speaker 12: of situations when it's obvious pass and he has to
- 26:13Speaker 12: drop back.
- 26:14Speaker 4: So can you do that?
- 26:15Speaker 12: That also allows you on third down to maybe double
- 26:19Speaker 12: JSN or have some sort of scheme element because you
- 26:22Speaker 12: know what pass is coming. So all those things are
- 26:25Speaker 12: prevalent on first down. I think first down is the
- 26:27Speaker 12: biggest down in this entire.
- 26:29Speaker 7: So, but you know, having said that, they're the number
- 26:32Speaker 7: one seed in the NFC.
- 26:33Speaker 6: So I'm sure a lot of teams know what you're
- 26:36Speaker 6: just saying and tried to do what you're saying, and
- 26:38Speaker 6: they just couldn't do it.
- 26:39Speaker 8: Yeah, not consistently.
- 26:40Speaker 7: Why couldn't not consistently?
- 26:42Speaker 8: And I mean I went through and watched, you know,
- 26:44Speaker 8: all of his interceptions this year, and I don't noticed
- 26:46Speaker 8: more than a few times he's looking at JSN first,
- 26:49Speaker 8: and if it's not there, that's when you start to
- 26:51Speaker 8: get Donald unraveled a little bit. So I think that's,
- 26:53Speaker 8: you know, a big part of it, making sure you
- 26:55Speaker 8: take him away early, but he gets open late too.
- 26:58Speaker 8: I mean there's times where Donald scial a little bit
- 27:00Speaker 8: and JSN is just too athletic. No one can stick
- 27:02Speaker 8: with him, lay in the down and Darnell finds him.
- 27:05Speaker 8: So uh, it's just it's it's hard to do it
- 27:07Speaker 8: for sixty minutes.
- 27:08Speaker 7: Every play.
- 27:09Speaker 8: They're gonna JASN is going to make some plays in
- 27:11Speaker 8: this game.
- 27:12Speaker 7: So it's so funny.
- 27:13Speaker 6: I just saw Jerry Madalon, our guy, walking with Mike
- 27:16Speaker 6: Tannon bound and then he was talking with Ben Watson,
- 27:19Speaker 6: and Watson was.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Right in front of us, so I thought he was
- 27:21Speaker 1: gonna give us a look. But he didn't know.
- 27:23Speaker 4: He was kind of head down.
- 27:24Speaker 7: You just forget all about us, Yeah, just forget about us.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I've been on that show before.
- 27:29Speaker 9: Okay, ben you know how many how many guys walking
- 27:32Speaker 9: around here have been on this show before?
- 27:34Speaker 6: Yeah? He has true Benjamin, We'll stop talking about that
- 27:37Speaker 6: play you made it against Denver?
- 27:39Speaker 8: You know, all right about Hey, how about the touchdown
- 27:42Speaker 8: he had in the O nine opener against the Bills
- 27:44Speaker 8: with the up the scene of Brady with a game
- 27:46Speaker 8: winner after it.
- 27:48Speaker 4: It was a touch back to.
- 27:51Speaker 7: Let's go to herm in DCG. What's up herb.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Okay, he.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Turn, you can speak, we.
- 28:06Speaker 14: Can hear you, yes, Okay, sorry, because I'm having all
- 28:11Speaker 14: the technific issues real quick. So I can't see a
- 28:14Speaker 14: scenario where essentially my bettest song Coach Babel compared to uh,
- 28:25Speaker 14: whether Mike, Mike.
- 28:26Speaker 9: McDaniels, Matt McDonald, Mike McDonald McDonald.
- 28:31Speaker 14: Yeah, I can't even thinking of the god's name, but
- 28:35Speaker 14: lost or short. I'm pretty much guaranteeing as a visual
- 28:38Speaker 14: win because again, if all the equals, I think one
- 28:42Speaker 14: of the biggest a glass to me is Coach Rabel.
- 28:45Speaker 14: I just think that he will be able to come
- 28:48Speaker 14: up with the defensive game plan to essentially slow down
- 28:52Speaker 14: to see a Seahawks offense and most typically just the
- 28:57Speaker 14: versus the Seahawks offense being able to team up against
- 29:05Speaker 14: our defensidemics.
- 29:06Speaker 9: That so, well, what about Seattle's defense against the Patriots offense?
- 29:11Speaker 1: Like McDonald's defensive coach.
- 29:15Speaker 14: I understand that, but again, I just trust Drake May, okay,
- 29:21Speaker 14: and Dodh McDaniels against that defense, right, And I know,
- 29:24Speaker 14: I remember you were talking about how obviously Drake May
- 29:27Speaker 14: didn't have the greatest playoff performance so far on my
- 29:32Speaker 14: person believe well, and it's my person believe that in
- 29:37Speaker 14: the sounds an excuse, but I do think what had
- 29:39Speaker 14: a lot of do right because ten donald, yes, he
- 29:44Speaker 14: lit up the Rams, but play in California, you know
- 29:47Speaker 14: what I mean? In California?
- 29:49Speaker 4: That yeah, okay, all right, So we're going with.
- 29:56Speaker 9: We're gonna go with the Patriots are gonna win because
- 29:59Speaker 9: they I don't think, which I don't necessarily disagree with.
- 30:02Speaker 9: I did make my pick yesterday on Patriots Unfiltered TV
- 30:05Speaker 9: at Niceties, and I went with the Patriots. In full disclosure,
- 30:09Speaker 9: we don't have to wait till Friday I just I
- 30:12Speaker 9: would like to have some reasoning other than yeah, well,
- 30:16Speaker 9: I just you know Rabel, Well, if we're.
- 30:18Speaker 12: Going to coaching angle, I don't think that there's much
- 30:21Speaker 12: of an advantage either way schematically. I think both these
- 30:25Speaker 12: staffs are really really good x's and o's wise Rabels
- 30:29Speaker 12: playing experience, mcdaniels's coaching experience versus what Seattle is bringing
- 30:36Speaker 12: to the table with a head coach and a coordinator
- 30:38Speaker 12: that have never been here before. I do think if
- 30:41Speaker 12: you want to take that route, then that's probably the argument.
- 30:44Speaker 12: McDonald's one of the best defensive schemers in the league,
- 30:47Speaker 12: and Quinn Kubiak just got a head coaching job because
- 30:50Speaker 12: of how good he's been on offense. So I don't
- 30:52Speaker 12: think that there's some big gap between the coaching staffs
- 30:55Speaker 12: from a x's and o's standpoint, but maybe an experience
- 30:58Speaker 12: standpoint that could help the Patriots.
- 31:00Speaker 9: And I would just say, like, would you say that
- 31:03Speaker 9: Mike Rabel is a better coach than Sean McDermott, Yes, yeah,
- 31:07Speaker 9: I mean I would. I mean I would probably go
- 31:09Speaker 9: into a game saying yeah, I think the Patriots have
- 31:11Speaker 9: an edge here, And that was probably one of the
- 31:13Speaker 9: most glaring mismatches in strategy. The second half of that
- 31:18Speaker 9: game in Foxborough, McDermott did some things that the Patriots
- 31:21Speaker 9: were not ready for and it completely changed the game. So,
- 31:25Speaker 9: like you can think you have an edge in something,
- 31:28Speaker 9: and as La Garrett Blunt told us, whatever you think
- 31:31Speaker 9: is going to happen is probably not going to come
- 31:33Speaker 9: out that way. Right, So there's a lot of different
- 31:35Speaker 9: twists and turns to these games. I do think that
- 31:38Speaker 9: Rabel's I love Evan's point about Rabel and McDaniel's that
- 31:42Speaker 9: experience I think has value in a big game and.
- 31:45Speaker 1: McDonald doesn't have that. Ye yeah, doesn't have the same stuff.
- 31:48Speaker 6: I think if you spread it out, I think Seattle
- 31:50Speaker 6: has better talent across the board, you know, spread out.
- 31:55Speaker 7: But it's not so much that they have this huge advantage.
- 32:00Speaker 6: When we look at these Super Bowls, We've been to
- 32:02Speaker 6: a few of them, right, Paul, Well, each one of these,
- 32:07Speaker 6: like there's like games within the game, Like you know,
- 32:12Speaker 6: there's certain parts of the sixty minutes that have their
- 32:15Speaker 6: own identity. You know, I think of the Carolina game
- 32:18Speaker 6: where every quarter seemed to be like a different game,
- 32:21Speaker 6: And you know, a lot of these it's just you
- 32:25Speaker 6: have to kind of break it up, and it's really
- 32:28Speaker 6: hard to predict what's gonna happen because it it doesn't
- 32:32Speaker 6: hold true throughout the whole game.
- 32:34Speaker 7: Like there's shifts and momentum.
- 32:37Speaker 6: Defenses get tired at the end a lot of times
- 32:40Speaker 6: in the Super Bowl, not just the Patriots, but you know,
- 32:42Speaker 6: there's a lot of energy expended up front and toward
- 32:46Speaker 6: the end, defenses you know, tend to you know, get
- 32:49Speaker 6: tired and offenses start.
- 32:51Speaker 7: To surge at the end.
- 32:52Speaker 4: I remember the first Super Bowl that the Patriots won.
- 32:55Speaker 6: If that game had gone into overtime, there's a good chance,
- 32:58Speaker 6: you know, and back then the overtime rules were different,
- 33:00Speaker 6: it's a good chance the Patriots would have lost that
- 33:02Speaker 6: game because the Rams were surging and our defense had
- 33:06Speaker 6: expended so much energy stopping Marshall Fock and Kurt Waterer
- 33:11Speaker 6: early that they didn't have much left.
- 33:13Speaker 7: Yeah. Well, let me ask you a question.
- 33:15Speaker 8: How many you know, what are the best couple of
- 33:16Speaker 8: Patriots defenses all time?
- 33:18Speaker 4: Three?
- 33:18Speaker 7: H four right?
- 33:19Speaker 4: Three?
- 33:19Speaker 8: Did anyone see the Carolina Panthers putting up what thirty
- 33:23Speaker 8: something points on them?
- 33:24Speaker 7: You know? It is just such a bizarre.
- 33:27Speaker 8: No, but you know what I mean, Like, that's one
- 33:29Speaker 8: of the best pages defenses.
- 33:30Speaker 1: I mean, that's a great point that Fred makes.
- 33:33Speaker 9: And some of these games they had, like there was
- 33:35Speaker 9: no scoring in the first and third quarters of that game,
- 33:37Speaker 9: was all in the second and fourth and you know
- 33:40Speaker 9: Rodney breaks his arm and you know, a guy like
- 33:42Speaker 9: Sean Mayer. Yeah, so Brendan Schooler is playing safety with
- 33:47Speaker 9: the game on the line. That was Sean Mayer. He
- 33:49Speaker 9: was a special teamer, you know, that's all. You know,
- 33:51Speaker 9: that's all his role was all year and with the
- 33:54Speaker 9: Super Bowl.
- 33:54Speaker 1: You never know.
- 33:56Speaker 9: I was watching forty nine the other night. This is
- 33:58Speaker 9: the first Seattle per usual rewatching. No, it just it
- 34:02Speaker 9: just happened to be on NFL. So and I'm watching.
- 34:05Speaker 9: It was like in the middle of the second quarter
- 34:07Speaker 9: and the Patriots had just scored to go up seven nothing,
- 34:10Speaker 9: and you know, Seattle puts a drive together and Russell
- 34:13Speaker 9: Wilson completed his first pass of the game. They were
- 34:15Speaker 9: about six minutes left in the half, and it was
- 34:17Speaker 9: like a record for the longest to complete his first pass.
- 34:21Speaker 9: Then all of a sudden and you look up in
- 34:23Speaker 9: the middle of the fourth quarter and you're down twenty
- 34:24Speaker 9: four to fourteen or whatever it was. You know, Seattle
- 34:27Speaker 9: had certainly gotten in gear by then, So there was
- 34:30Speaker 9: like totally different games.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Even within the game, like Fred said, and I'll.
- 34:34Speaker 7: Look at the game where the Patriots lost to the Eagles.
- 34:37Speaker 6: All of you know, it seemed like, you know, Patriots
- 34:39Speaker 6: are kind of cruising, Brandon Cooks goes down, Yeah, and
- 34:43Speaker 6: like you look, well, you don't really need Brandon Cooks.
- 34:46Speaker 7: No, you did need him in that game. Well, you
- 34:48Speaker 7: probably needed Malcolm Butler, yeah, Maltham Butler.
- 34:50Speaker 6: But like, like you know, he tries to do this
- 34:52Speaker 6: crazy move where he tries to go over the guy's
- 34:55Speaker 6: helmet and he's out for the game.
- 34:57Speaker 7: Press that changed things.
- 34:59Speaker 6: So these Super Bowls are are different animals than I
- 35:03Speaker 6: think regular season games.
- 35:04Speaker 4: They really are, especially from half to half.
- 35:07Speaker 12: I feel like too, like because of the halftime is
- 35:09Speaker 12: so long that whatever you did in the you almost
- 35:12Speaker 12: have to have two game plans going into it, because
- 35:15Speaker 12: whatever you did in the first half, there's gonna be
- 35:17Speaker 12: that extra time for these coaches to figure out what
- 35:19Speaker 12: you were doing, and then there's gonna be adjustments to
- 35:22Speaker 12: the first half. And so you's often hear and sometimes
- 35:24Speaker 12: that they almost have two different game plans going into
- 35:28Speaker 12: the game because they know that that sort of thirty
- 35:30Speaker 12: plus minute halftime is a lot longer than it normally is.
- 35:33Speaker 6: Yep, you know, in game adjustments, that type of thing,
- 35:38Speaker 6: they become critical.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:39Speaker 8: I saw a story on the interwebs that Brady and
- 35:42Speaker 8: Josh like rewrote their red zone.
- 35:44Speaker 7: I had heard that list. Yeah, super Bowl forty nine,
- 35:47Speaker 7: like two days before.
- 35:48Speaker 4: Yeah, it was two plays.
- 35:50Speaker 12: But the one where Edelman's pointing at the sideline, Yeah,
- 35:54Speaker 12: when he caught the little, you know, jerk route return route,
- 35:57Speaker 12: that one, I think we had no and that that
- 36:00Speaker 12: was the play that they put in in the ballroom
- 36:02Speaker 12: the night before the game on Saturday night. They had
- 36:05Speaker 12: installed that play and they had ran it, and yeah,
- 36:08Speaker 12: that was really fascinating. I didn't know the second one,
- 36:10Speaker 12: the one to La fell slant route. I guess that
- 36:15Speaker 12: was the other play that they installed and they threw
- 36:18Speaker 12: a touchdown on.
- 36:18Speaker 6: All right, let's go to on the eight five five
- 36:21Speaker 6: pats five hundred the hotline. Let's go to Tom in Oakland. Hey, Tom, Hey,
- 36:27Speaker 6: what's up guys.
- 36:28Speaker 16: Sorry for a little bit of a subject change, but
- 36:30Speaker 16: I wondering what favorite things that you've eaten or done
- 36:34Speaker 16: in in San Francisco in a few days, or maybe
- 36:37Speaker 16: something you're.
- 36:37Speaker 15: Looking forward to.
- 36:39Speaker 6: Well, you know, we've been kind of working a lot,
- 36:41Speaker 6: so I haven't really had by the time to do
- 36:43Speaker 6: any sight seeing or any fun stuff like that. All
- 36:46Speaker 6: I did have a good meal last night at a
- 36:47Speaker 6: place called Indian Sizzler, so if you like Indian food,
- 36:51Speaker 6: that was really good. But that's Insanta Clara. But other
- 36:54Speaker 6: than that, like, we haven't really had a chance to
- 36:56Speaker 6: do anything.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Oh you can eat this.
- 36:58Speaker 8: It's been more of a nostalgia for me because we've
- 37:00Speaker 8: got to go in and out and we've gone back
- 37:02Speaker 8: to back days to Mel's Drive in, which is a
- 37:04Speaker 8: place I used to go to all the time out here.
- 37:06Speaker 8: So but I think tonight we have a little company party,
- 37:09Speaker 8: so I think there's gonna be some good food tonight.
- 37:11Speaker 8: I'm looking forward to.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:11Speaker 9: The problem for us and we still run, you know,
- 37:15Speaker 9: and we said that we wouldn't do this, so if not,
- 37:18Speaker 9: please don't take this as complaining.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Is we're happy to do our jobs. We're in Santa Clara.
- 37:22Speaker 9: To get to San Francisco is taking over an hour
- 37:26Speaker 9: each way, so we're here to do the radio and
- 37:29Speaker 9: then we go back to the hotel. So the idea
- 37:31Speaker 9: of coming an hour back to go an hour back
- 37:34Speaker 9: home twice in the same day is a lot. So
- 37:37Speaker 9: we haven't really gotten a chance to get to any
- 37:39Speaker 9: of the you know, the nice restaurants. And I keep
- 37:42Speaker 9: getting people recommending, you know, various places. This you know,
- 37:45Speaker 9: this primary place, and this you know, this different bar
- 37:50Speaker 9: is supposed to be really good, and I'd love to
- 37:52Speaker 9: see them all. My guess is on Saturday we'll get
- 37:55Speaker 9: to get a chance to see a couple with these
- 37:56Speaker 9: parties that the Patriots are having.
- 37:58Speaker 1: But that's about it.
- 37:59Speaker 6: Yeah, all right, Tom, you're in Oakland, any do you
- 38:03Speaker 6: have any recommendations?
- 38:06Speaker 16: Yeah, I mean, I know the Connecticut Yankees got brought
- 38:08Speaker 16: up a bunch. I've watched a fandful of past games there. Yeah,
- 38:11Speaker 16: he's our pub. Uh, some of the best Buffalo Wings.
- 38:14Speaker 16: I'd say this, okay, okay, it's right by right by
- 38:19Speaker 16: sees Our Stadium, which is where the Niners played way
- 38:22Speaker 16: back in the day. That's what that one's name for.
- 38:25Speaker 16: But and then the tourist the areas over there up
- 38:28Speaker 16: here thirty nine, like it's toursy but it's cool. You
- 38:30Speaker 16: can go see the seals and the shops and all
- 38:33Speaker 16: that kind of stuff. So yeah, plenty of fun stuff.
- 38:36Speaker 16: But uh yeah, I mean I went to the Pro
- 38:38Speaker 16: Bowl last night. Took me over an hour to get
- 38:40Speaker 16: over the bridge from Oakland, so wow, yeah, it's a
- 38:43Speaker 16: nightmare getting around.
- 38:45Speaker 7: Okay, all right, Well thanks for calling.
- 38:47Speaker 14: It, Tom, appreciate it, guys him.
- 38:49Speaker 7: Tom and Oakland.
- 38:52Speaker 6: On the subject of they hate us because they jeal,
- 38:56Speaker 6: which I always love this subject disrespect. That's why people
- 39:00Speaker 6: keep walking through our set, John and South Carolina rights in. Uh,
- 39:04Speaker 6: he says, I live in South Carolina. I have Clemson
- 39:07Speaker 6: and Patriots stickers on my truck. I have to switch
- 39:10Speaker 6: the Patriots sticker because it will get written on ripped keyed,
- 39:13Speaker 6: et cetera. Nothing ever happens to the Clemson are bruin stuff.
- 39:17Speaker 6: People still hate us and are still sick of us
- 39:20Speaker 6: the most. This mostly happens that stores in Lows.
- 39:23Speaker 7: It isn't even.
- 39:24Speaker 6: People I've interacted with Lows. Life is different outside of
- 39:29Speaker 6: New England. Outside of New England, you keep your mouth
- 39:30Speaker 6: shut unless you're around friends. When it comes to the Pats,
- 39:33Speaker 6: unless you feel like getting into an argument with someone
- 39:36Speaker 6: who only watches college football but still wants to crap
- 39:38Speaker 6: on the Patriots. Sports radio isn't really an issue unless
- 39:42Speaker 6: you get an old head blaming the Patriots for ruining
- 39:45Speaker 6: Cam Newton.
- 39:48Speaker 8: We should ask him about it. He's right over there.
- 39:50Speaker 8: Oh god, do you think we could get him on?
- 39:53Speaker 8: That would be funny, just to try to convince him.
- 39:56Speaker 4: Why do you know how the current quarterback you feel
- 39:58Speaker 4: about that?
- 39:58Speaker 7: Dudes will hold his feet to the fire.
- 40:01Speaker 8: Did you ever find out what mac Jones's real meddle
- 40:03Speaker 8: name was?
- 40:06Speaker 7: Well, okay, let's go to Sean and Vancouver. What's up Sean?
- 40:12Speaker 15: Hey, you know, I'm disappointed, as I'm sure everyone is hearing,
- 40:18Speaker 15: the Craft, the best owner and history of sports is
- 40:21Speaker 15: not in the Hall of Fame. But I'm not surprised
- 40:24Speaker 15: because Avenue, I'm sure you agree the Pro Football Hall
- 40:29Speaker 15: of Fame has a bias against the Patriots, and I
- 40:34Speaker 15: wouldn't be surprised if Terry doesn't get in, and then
- 40:37Speaker 15: next year if they make bronk weights. So this is
- 40:40Speaker 15: my question. Let's say in twenty twenty eight, there's a
- 40:44Speaker 15: complete slips. It's a Patriots party, it's Brady, it's Bronk,
- 40:48Speaker 15: it's Belichick, it's Craft, it's been a Terry, it's even
- 40:50Speaker 15: Rodney Harrison. Would you all go for that induction ceremony?
- 40:55Speaker 17: I would.
- 40:56Speaker 9: The better question is what would Patriots Nation have to
- 40:59Speaker 9: bitch about out being hated by the leader? What would
- 41:02Speaker 9: they what would they fabricate that the mass induction Because
- 41:05Speaker 9: let me just say this for the record, if if
- 41:08Speaker 9: Vinitary and Gronkowski and Brady don't get in, then I'll say,
- 41:15Speaker 9: you know what, I was stubbornly wrong. This is clearly
- 41:19Speaker 9: a bias against the Patriots if those kinds of guys
- 41:21Speaker 9: don't get in the Hall of Fame. But if Tom
- 41:24Speaker 9: and Rob Gronkowski, Adam Minitarry is going to get in
- 41:28Speaker 9: the Hall of Fame, Tom Brady is going to get
- 41:30Speaker 9: I don't really care like what year, like, that's not
- 41:32Speaker 9: really all that.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Important to me.
- 41:34Speaker 9: But if they don't get in the Hall of Fame,
- 41:37Speaker 9: then I'll say, you guys were right. This is clearly
- 41:39Speaker 9: a bias. There's something special about.
- 41:42Speaker 18: Tom Braid is going to be a first ballot hall
- 41:44Speaker 18: when you're deserving, and he will be who on that list?
- 41:49Speaker 6: He will him nobody. I say the same thing for
- 41:52Speaker 6: Gronk like who on the list.
- 41:55Speaker 9: I would agree, and I think they'll both and I
- 41:58Speaker 9: think they'll both be first ballot Hall of Famers. But
- 42:00Speaker 9: I'm just saying, if they don't get in the Hall
- 42:01Speaker 9: of Fame, then I'll say, you guys are right.
- 42:03Speaker 7: I would hope.
- 42:03Speaker 6: So it just might be Elsie Greenwood's all right, good
- 42:07Speaker 6: time for break, So let's take one.
- 42:10Speaker 7: When we come back. Maybe we'll have some guests.
- 42:12Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 42:13Speaker 7: If somebody's late, all right, we'll be right back.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Come on, Switch, Come on, come on, switch Switch.
- 42:47Speaker 19: Let there be ideas too big to stay, ideas and
- 42:52Speaker 19: the software to make them sore.
- 42:56Speaker 20: Let there be anything Autodesk.
- 43:01Speaker 21: The future with AI will twist unturned. Cisco is the
- 43:06Speaker 21: critical infrastructure for.
- 43:07Speaker 22: The AI era, clearing your path to wide open possibility. Cisco.
- 43:15Speaker 20: Duncan's five dollar meal Deal.
- 43:19Speaker 23: A yummy wake up wrap, a mediumized you Hot coffee,
- 43:25Speaker 23: and six Krispy Golden Hash Browns.
- 43:27Speaker 20: Duncan's five dollar meal deal a deal for everyone.
- 43:30Speaker 24: It ain't my Dad's razor DD Hey watch it. It's
- 43:33Speaker 24: from to let lapse. This green bar releases trapped hairs
- 43:36Speaker 24: for my face. Game change well afflex this contours to it,
- 43:39Speaker 24: so the five blades can get virtually every hair in
- 43:41Speaker 24: one stroke for the ultimate to let shaving experience.
- 43:43Speaker 11: The best to make you get is to let lapse.
- 43:45Speaker 3: We had a crime stop or tip come in.
- 43:48Speaker 11: We walked into a real one tonight.
- 43:50Speaker 2: How much you sit down over twenty milt?
- 43:53Speaker 11: Any ideas we might want?
- 43:54Speaker 3: This money got the cartel, dirty cops.
- 43:57Speaker 2: Where do you want to start? It can't be so
- 44:08Speaker 2: much easier. We just stole this money, and I swear
- 44:10Speaker 2: to God.
- 44:22Speaker 25: As come on, switch come on, come on, come on, switch.
- 44:59Speaker 11: Switch.
- 45:02Speaker 19: Let there be ideas too big to stay ideas and
- 45:07Speaker 19: the software to make them sore.
- 45:11Speaker 20: Let there be anything Autodesk.
- 45:19Speaker 7: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 45:21Speaker 5: Presented by Toyota's official website. For deals, buy a Toyota
- 45:25Speaker 5: dot com.
- 45:31Speaker 7: So I didn't here to have.
- 45:32Speaker 8: Our first guest to the day, and it's a good one,
- 45:34Speaker 8: one of my favorites. If you got to watch NFL
- 45:36Speaker 8: live and me come on, it's mina chimes from ESPN Mida.
- 45:39Speaker 7: So great to see you. Thank you for stopping by.
- 45:42Speaker 7: Now is it true?
- 45:42Speaker 8: I gotta start this off because we heard rumors when
- 45:44Speaker 8: you were in Jillette stadium. They were like one of
- 45:46Speaker 8: our camera guys was like, you know, Minachimes really like
- 45:48Speaker 8: seven stuff.
- 45:49Speaker 4: She's yeah, you gotta hear from you now, this guy,
- 45:52Speaker 4: they're gonna embarrass me.
- 45:53Speaker 26: Yeah, I'm gonna embarrass you.
- 45:55Speaker 27: Like one of the best, one of the best young
- 45:59Speaker 27: NFL writers were today. I've hit you before. Do you
- 46:02Speaker 27: do a great job covering the team? I don't know
- 46:06Speaker 27: getting I'm now at the age where I can call
- 46:07Speaker 27: people young, right, Yeah, I was text I told you
- 46:11Speaker 27: a text of my friend Bill Simmons about how good
- 46:13Speaker 27: you are.
- 46:13Speaker 26: And I did a good job to do covering the team.
- 46:15Speaker 26: And it's been a fun season to read along.
- 46:18Speaker 7: It has been a fun season.
- 46:19Speaker 4: I know you're also a Seahawks fan.
- 46:20Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean this is pretty cool for you.
- 46:22Speaker 4: I mean, we come in peace. It's okay now.
- 46:24Speaker 8: And I'm a kind of a closet Seahawks fancy, like
- 46:25Speaker 8: I was Steve Large in Jersey when I was a kid,
- 46:27Speaker 8: and everyone's making fun of me all week that I
- 46:28Speaker 8: have like split alliances, but I'm really.
- 46:31Speaker 7: A Patriots guy.
- 46:32Speaker 8: But what's your biggest takeaway from this game right now?
- 46:34Speaker 8: Is as we get ready to get into this thing, uh, Okay, So.
- 46:39Speaker 27: The thesis I've kind of been presenting to people this week,
- 46:42Speaker 27: because obviously I did my show digging into the matchups
- 46:44Speaker 27: and all the various exos and whatnot, is I have
- 46:48Speaker 27: my feeling is that I think the Patriots offense is
- 46:52Speaker 27: better than what we've seen, and the defense is a
- 46:54Speaker 27: little bit worse than what we've seen, and I think
- 46:55Speaker 27: people are overrating the defense a little bit underrating the offense.
- 46:58Speaker 26: How do you guys feel about that?
- 47:00Speaker 4: I think that's fair.
- 47:01Speaker 1: I can definitely see that.
- 47:03Speaker 12: Yeah, I think the one thing that Patriots fans are
- 47:05Speaker 12: holding out hope for is that they've played some bad
- 47:07Speaker 12: weather games here in the playoffs, especially that fourth quarter
- 47:10Speaker 12: in Denver was pretty tough for both teams. So some
- 47:14Speaker 12: better weather in this climate, maybe Drake may plays a
- 47:17Speaker 12: little bit more like he did in the regular season
- 47:19Speaker 12: compared to the playoffs, but I do I'm fascinated to
- 47:23Speaker 12: see how he looks against another great defense.
- 47:26Speaker 10: You know.
- 47:26Speaker 12: That's another big part of this is I wanted to
- 47:29Speaker 12: ask you about your MVP vote here in the second,
- 47:31Speaker 12: but the biggest thing that we heard all year was
- 47:35Speaker 12: him against you know, weaker defenses all season long, and
- 47:38Speaker 12: then they get into the playoffs and it's the Texans,
- 47:40Speaker 12: is the Broncos.
- 47:41Speaker 4: Now it's Seattle. Yeah, we're kind of finding out a
- 47:43Speaker 4: little bit.
- 47:44Speaker 12: About that too. So I agree with your thesis. I
- 47:46Speaker 12: just wonder where that falls in the middle.
- 47:49Speaker 27: I know, right, Yeah, it's the expectation is not that
- 47:52Speaker 27: he's gonna light Seattle up. I just think they're too difficult,
- 47:55Speaker 27: but more so that you know, I think, like, like
- 47:59Speaker 27: you said, he's plays really difficult defenses. I think the
- 48:01Speaker 27: weather was a big deal, and I think, you know,
- 48:04Speaker 27: with a couple of weeks to prepare, and I think
- 48:06Speaker 27: there's things that he can do, strengths that he can
- 48:09Speaker 27: play into that'll make it look better than it has
- 48:12Speaker 27: thus far.
- 48:13Speaker 9: Can I ask you, you know, one of the questions
- 48:15Speaker 9: we're getting a lot from people. You look at Seattle's offense,
- 48:18Speaker 9: and it's obviously JSN centric.
- 48:21Speaker 1: Yeah, one hundred and nineteen catches.
- 48:22Speaker 9: The next guy is down I don't know, seventy five
- 48:25Speaker 9: or so, and everybody's like, well, if you just take
- 48:27Speaker 9: JSN out of the game, you know, like you can
- 48:29Speaker 9: just I know, obviously all the teams that Seattle has
- 48:33Speaker 9: played have gone in to say, you know this is
- 48:35Speaker 9: what we're going to do. You follow Seattle as closely
- 48:38Speaker 9: as anyone, right, So why are they so successful being
- 48:41Speaker 9: able to still.
- 48:42Speaker 26: Have him be the Yeah there there's a litany of
- 48:44Speaker 26: reasons for that, right.
- 48:46Speaker 27: It'd be so nice if they could just say, hey, Gonzo,
- 48:49Speaker 27: follow him right, and then suddenly you're not left with
- 48:52Speaker 27: numbers disadvantages everywhere because Seattle's so good at taking advantage
- 48:55Speaker 27: of jsn's gravity. I'm sure you guys now have watched
- 48:59Speaker 27: a lot of hate but inevitably, at some point in
- 49:01Speaker 27: the game one of their miscellaneous tight ends is gonna
- 49:04Speaker 27: be white ass open, because Jay said, you know, and
- 49:07Speaker 27: a lot of it is. Usually they take most their
- 49:08Speaker 27: shots off with play action, so that contributes to do
- 49:10Speaker 27: as well. You're getting not just matchup advantages from a
- 49:13Speaker 27: personnel standpoint, although I think it's very interesting to see
- 49:15Speaker 27: how New England plays that, but also just you get
- 49:17Speaker 27: one on ones that way downfield. They run a lot
- 49:19Speaker 27: of two man concepts with him, and he'll pull half
- 49:23Speaker 27: the defense and someone is open. You have seen defenses
- 49:26Speaker 27: pay hit him a lot of attention. Obviously, he faces
- 49:28Speaker 27: a lot of cloud and I think Kink Kubiak has
- 49:32Speaker 27: done a really good job of moving him around to
- 49:35Speaker 27: avoid that. That's something I suspect we'll see a decent
- 49:38Speaker 27: amount in this game. He'll put him in the backfield,
- 49:40Speaker 27: he'll put him in the slot. That's something I'll be
- 49:41Speaker 27: interesting seeing how much he does that. So for New England,
- 49:44Speaker 27: I think it's it's challenging, but it's also something you
- 49:47Speaker 27: have to constantly adjust to within the game. You can't
- 49:49Speaker 27: go in saying cool, he's gonna split out wide and
- 49:51Speaker 27: we're gonna, you know, do one double or whatever, because
- 49:53Speaker 27: they're gonna move him around.
- 49:54Speaker 26: You're gonna have to constantly reevaluate.
- 49:56Speaker 4: Before you gotta go. You're MVP vote.
- 49:59Speaker 12: You voted for Drake May. You're Drake May MVP voter.
- 50:03Speaker 12: Just what what kind of put it over the top
- 50:05Speaker 12: for you to vote for him over Stafford?
- 50:07Speaker 28: Yeah?
- 50:07Speaker 16: I know.
- 50:08Speaker 27: So that is Thursday. I'm on first take with Dan.
- 50:11Speaker 27: So Pats fans, please support me. I need your I
- 50:14Speaker 27: need your help, especially given the postseason and I keeping
- 50:17Speaker 27: like it's a regular season.
- 50:19Speaker 4: I actually say, I think you said that in your podcast.
- 50:23Speaker 27: I actually think what we're talking about too is like
- 50:26Speaker 27: kind of confusing the conversation because I keep hearing like
- 50:30Speaker 27: the pat stuff an elite defense and about and like
- 50:32Speaker 27: that's literally, did you guys watch any games this year?
- 50:34Speaker 27: This is not what it looked like during the regular season.
- 50:36Speaker 27: Has something I had to do with injuries, you know,
- 50:38Speaker 27: But for me, it was like two things. So I
- 50:41Speaker 27: look at dominance and then I look at value. So
- 50:43Speaker 27: from a dominance perspective, I thought, statistically it was not close.
- 50:46Speaker 27: Drake beat him in just about Stafford right in basically
- 50:49Speaker 27: every metric possible, both the sort of more basic ones
- 50:53Speaker 27: but also the advanced ones. You know, the opponent gets
- 50:57Speaker 27: brought up a lot. My colleague Bill Bardenwall did an
- 50:59Speaker 27: excellent piece. I think this was kind of first letting
- 51:01Speaker 27: people understand that, yes, the Patriots faced a weaker slate
- 51:04Speaker 27: of opponents, but it was really offenses more than defenses.
- 51:07Speaker 27: And if you actually divide it into defenses, it wasn't
- 51:10Speaker 27: that different from what Matthew Stafford faced to me. And
- 51:13Speaker 27: this is where maybe some passcows would be angry. That
- 51:15Speaker 27: was actually more of a point against Mike Rabel winning
- 51:17Speaker 27: Coach of the Year than it was against May's MVP.
- 51:19Speaker 27: So there's statistically he beats him in every way. Okay,
- 51:22Speaker 27: then there's the value thing, and I think this is
- 51:23Speaker 27: what put it over the top for me. Matthew Stafford
- 51:25Speaker 27: had the best run game in football by a pretty
- 51:27Speaker 27: significant margin this year and a top five defense. I know,
- 51:30Speaker 27: we just saw them in the playoffs, I tell you.
- 51:31Speaker 27: During the right the regular season, the Rams were like
- 51:33Speaker 27: top five and DVOA New England run game and defense
- 51:36Speaker 27: bottom ten in both regards. So if I'm looking at
- 51:38Speaker 27: the team and I'm saying who did more, who carried
- 51:41Speaker 27: more on their shoulders? Who is more responsible for By
- 51:43Speaker 27: the way, a team that literally got you know that
- 51:47Speaker 27: won their division unlike the other one, it's the young quarterback.
- 51:50Speaker 26: So I didn't think it was particularly.
- 51:52Speaker 8: Hard to be honest, Well, you don't need to convince us.
- 51:54Speaker 9: I love the last part of that argument. Yeah more
- 51:57Speaker 9: with less was responsible for more and you know, yeah,
- 52:00Speaker 9: I mean that's what and.
- 52:01Speaker 27: Even bring up the oh yeah, yeah, my offensive player
- 52:04Speaker 27: of the year.
- 52:05Speaker 12: Right, so you have a guy that's offensive Player of
- 52:07Speaker 12: the year, better offensive line, probably a little bit in
- 52:09Speaker 12: with in the Rams, better run game. That's what we've
- 52:12Speaker 12: been saying is if there's one guy that's elevated the
- 52:15Speaker 12: talent more, Yeah.
- 52:16Speaker 26: Probably it sounds like you listen to the podcast.
- 52:18Speaker 27: Actually, so Jabs Who's Great brought up like, well, you know,
- 52:22Speaker 27: the run game of the Rams probably benefits And then
- 52:23Speaker 27: when I looked it up as we were taping, I
- 52:25Speaker 27: was like, actually the Rams have faced more fewer light
- 52:28Speaker 27: boxes in the Patriots.
- 52:30Speaker 26: Yeah, I'm you're putting that one in my post.
- 52:32Speaker 12: Face over the top yea of Drake's deep ball, they
- 52:34Speaker 12: don't and him and Kaishaw Boody Booty has been seeing
- 52:37Speaker 12: cloud all playoffs.
- 52:38Speaker 4: They don't want him to go over the top.
- 52:39Speaker 27: And I think Booty and Digs are really underrated, Like
- 52:41Speaker 27: our catch stats love them, and ngs's catch stats love them.
- 52:45Speaker 27: I know you get into advanced numbers. You've seen all this,
- 52:47Speaker 27: so I don't want to say like Drake's out there
- 52:49Speaker 27: playing with scrubs. I think people underrated the New England
- 52:51Speaker 27: pass catchers as well. I love the Dig signings, but
- 52:53Speaker 27: I didn't think Kaishan Boody would become what he's become.
- 52:56Speaker 26: But you know they're not pookinakup. Let's be serious so.
- 52:59Speaker 4: Much taking the time.
- 53:00Speaker 8: You're crazy busy right now, so keep up the great work.
- 53:02Speaker 8: We appreciate you and we'll see you maybe after the
- 53:04Speaker 8: super Bowl.
- 53:04Speaker 4: So fun.
- 53:05Speaker 26: I can't wait to read your recap.
- 53:06Speaker 4: Thank you, thank you.
- 53:07Speaker 1: Wow, we're going to have to hose him down many times.
- 53:11Speaker 1: Thank you very much.
- 53:12Speaker 4: Appreciate it.
- 53:15Speaker 7: All right, Well so you.
- 53:16Speaker 1: Got all your all your advanced stats.
- 53:18Speaker 4: There was the spirits.
- 53:21Speaker 7: That's what I told you, you know.
- 53:25Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, we'll bring bring Dan over here.
- 53:27Speaker 7: We loved it. We loved it.
- 53:28Speaker 9: But but Evan has a little thing that goes back
- 53:30Speaker 9: and forth. I'm frustrated with the Lasky. I love today.
- 53:34Speaker 9: It's like it goes back and forth.
- 53:36Speaker 3: I love it.
- 53:40Speaker 8: Great, great star, Thanks Mina. Appreciate it.
- 53:45Speaker 7: Well, yeah, that's uh there you go embarrass a little bit. Yeah, yeah,
- 53:48Speaker 7: we need to get that out there.
- 53:50Speaker 9: And my good job getting us back in by the way,
- 53:52Speaker 9: that's good job subbing it on the flo.
- 53:53Speaker 7: Appreciate it, Freddie Fields.
- 53:55Speaker 12: Only only I knew this the embarrassment was going to
- 53:58Speaker 12: be coming a little bit, so I was prepared.
- 54:00Speaker 7: You do good work.
- 54:01Speaker 8: You gets some props from from one of the national
- 54:04Speaker 8: uh you know, I mean, she's I love NFL Live.
- 54:06Speaker 7: It's such a great a right, great, it was great.
- 54:09Speaker 1: He was a little reds a great time.
- 54:12Speaker 8: No, she's great. I mean, honestly, I I don't know
- 54:15Speaker 8: what point over the last few years that I really
- 54:17Speaker 8: just started watching NFL Live, But I just I think
- 54:19Speaker 8: they do such a great job, you know, good for
- 54:21Speaker 8: some they got good chemistry. It's just perfect afternoon kind
- 54:23Speaker 8: of way to wrap up the day.
- 54:24Speaker 1: What are they talk about?
- 54:26Speaker 7: Its football?
- 54:26Speaker 1: I don't know if I've seen that.
- 54:28Speaker 12: I think that, you know, the show that gets the NBA,
- 54:32Speaker 12: I think tends to dominate, like the you know inside
- 54:35Speaker 12: the NBA is always like revered as like the best
- 54:37Speaker 12: studio show that they have these days. And they've done
- 54:41Speaker 12: a really good job I think with NFL Live of
- 54:43Speaker 12: Mina or Lobsky getting some like actual analysis that's not
- 54:48Speaker 12: just like Steven A yelling at a screen, you know,
- 54:50Speaker 12: and we actually have some real ball knowers that are
- 54:53Speaker 12: actually breaking down, you know, whether it's more analytical like
- 54:57Speaker 12: Mina or the football side, you know, like or Lobsky
- 54:59Speaker 12: where he he's a former player, but either one of
- 55:02Speaker 12: them or you know, know a ton of footballs.
- 55:04Speaker 6: And it's not easy doing what she's doing because she's
- 55:07Speaker 6: a woman talking about football, and I think, you know,
- 55:11Speaker 6: it's hard for them to kind of break through and
- 55:14Speaker 6: be you know, respected for sure. I'm not saying that
- 55:18Speaker 6: they're held to a different standard, but some people don't
- 55:22Speaker 6: hear it when a woman is saying it as opposed
- 55:25Speaker 6: to a man. And I think she's done a real
- 55:27Speaker 6: good job of establhing herself as somebody who puts in
- 55:30Speaker 6: the work, understands the subject matter and is able to
- 55:33Speaker 6: convey it really well and.
- 55:35Speaker 8: Digs her heels in where people come at her and
- 55:37Speaker 8: try to say, I mean she does the work, and
- 55:39Speaker 8: I mean Evan can attest.
- 55:40Speaker 12: That she when she presents like when she presents numbers,
- 55:43Speaker 12: I don't feel like I'm like super confused by it.
- 55:46Speaker 12: And that's something that I think I personally probably struggle
- 55:49Speaker 12: with is I say a lot of epas and dvoas
- 55:52Speaker 12: and people are like, what is he talking about?
- 55:54Speaker 4: And she does such a good job of being concise
- 55:56Speaker 4: about it.
- 55:57Speaker 6: Good stuff. So Mina Kimes, thank you, uh. First of
- 56:00Speaker 6: our guests today among many. So they'll be coming in.
- 56:06Speaker 6: So while we're waiting for our next guest, Evans here,
- 56:09Speaker 6: Matt and Devin UK has a question for him. I'm
- 56:11Speaker 6: looking to put some money on a few different bets
- 56:13Speaker 6: for the Super Bowl. I need to know how are
- 56:16Speaker 6: we going to attack the Seahawks and which players are
- 56:18Speaker 6: going to have big games rushing and receiving. Well, I
- 56:21Speaker 6: mean that's kind of a brilliant broad Also, and.
- 56:25Speaker 29: You want to make money, tell me what's going to happen, right, Also,
- 56:28Speaker 29: any under the radar players who could have a good
- 56:31Speaker 29: game against us, like Bobo Shaheed, Arroyo Cup, et cetera,
- 56:34Speaker 29: I mean, any of them.
- 56:36Speaker 9: I think Cooper Cup is a guy sort of you know,
- 56:39Speaker 9: I've been reading some some stats on him. He had
- 56:42Speaker 9: a pretty modest regular season, but he seems like one
- 56:45Speaker 9: of those guys that that Darnold is relying on in
- 56:48Speaker 9: the playoffs.
- 56:49Speaker 1: I think his numbers are.
- 56:50Speaker 9: You know, I think he was catching about three passes
- 56:53Speaker 9: a game, and he's almost up to like five in
- 56:55Speaker 9: the playoffs, like four and a half catches, So he's
- 56:58Speaker 9: gone to him more often postseason. He's a guy with
- 57:01Speaker 9: postseason experience. MVP, you need a second guy. Obviously, shaheeds
- 57:06Speaker 9: more of to me, like the one play, the one
- 57:08Speaker 9: trick pony kind of guy.
- 57:10Speaker 8: It's a good point Cooper Cup could be the guy
- 57:12Speaker 8: I keep an eye if I was Seattle, I feel
- 57:13Speaker 8: really good about having him as my second guy, especially
- 57:16Speaker 8: as you pointed out, Paul, the experience, and you know,
- 57:19Speaker 8: I would say Barner too.
- 57:20Speaker 7: They're tight end.
- 57:21Speaker 8: It's just I mean, I know the Patriots that that
- 57:22Speaker 8: tight end thing hasn't quite been the same glaring problem
- 57:25Speaker 8: that we kind of talked about a lot during the season.
- 57:27Speaker 8: But I just think he's timely.
- 57:28Speaker 7: He's a big player.
- 57:29Speaker 8: Patriots linebackers a little bit smaller, safety's a little bit smaller, and.
- 57:33Speaker 7: He's a big dude who can bux guys out.
- 57:34Speaker 8: So you know, it's not really dynamic, but I still
- 57:37Speaker 8: think he's one of those third and four he's I like, put.
- 57:42Speaker 12: The boots in the play actions to Barner's just there's
- 57:45Speaker 12: so much space underneath the defense because they're running the
- 57:47Speaker 12: vertical routes off of those extended dropbacks, you know, longer dropbacks,
- 57:52Speaker 12: and so guys are running down the field and then
- 57:54Speaker 12: just naturally, the zone just gets stretched out and then
- 57:57Speaker 12: Barner's just kind of wide open underneath the zone.
- 57:59Speaker 9: I like the way she explained that just what Jasn does,
- 58:02Speaker 9: it's so much more than just one hundred and nineteen catches.
- 58:05Speaker 12: So yeah, yeah, and I think that you know your
- 58:06Speaker 12: point about Cup, Paul is, to me, that's one of
- 58:09Speaker 12: the biggest matchups in the game is it's probably gonna
- 58:11Speaker 12: be two you know, kind of crafty vets in Carlton
- 58:14Speaker 12: Davis and Cooper Cup, and they're gonna be one on
- 58:16Speaker 12: one for a lot of this game because all the
- 58:18Speaker 12: extra attention is gonna have to go to JSN. So
- 58:21Speaker 12: you know, Carlon Davi is gonna have to win that matchup.
- 58:23Speaker 12: You know, whoever wins that matchup, I think is gonna
- 58:25Speaker 12: be a big key in the game.
- 58:27Speaker 6: Jordan Kentucky wants to know, and I don't know the
- 58:30Speaker 6: answer to this. Did you guys see what Joe Milton
- 58:32Speaker 6: had to say in the Chris Sims Show. I didn't
- 58:35Speaker 6: hear about it.
- 58:35Speaker 4: No, I heard.
- 58:36Speaker 12: I saw some like Twitter clips of it, but I
- 58:39Speaker 12: did not. I don't want to, you know, misquote him
- 58:42Speaker 12: or anything. I didn't see exactly what he said, but
- 58:45Speaker 12: it looked like maybe he said something about he felt
- 58:48Speaker 12: that he was like disrespected or something like that.
- 58:50Speaker 6: Kelly writes in Holy Crap, mena Kime, She's the best.
- 58:54Speaker 6: Love her match to Eclaires on The Great British Bakeoff.
- 58:59Speaker 8: Okay, so she's on the Bakeoff now too, right, Like
- 59:02Speaker 8: that's doing I think she was just recently on it. Yeah,
- 59:05Speaker 8: they did, like an American version of The of the Yeah. Okay,
- 59:09Speaker 8: I bet she's good at it. She seems like she's
- 59:11Speaker 8: probably good at everything she does.
- 59:14Speaker 6: Kendall's in North Carolina on the hotline. What's up, Kendall, Kendall.
- 59:21Speaker 6: Kendall's gone, go on, He's gone. All right, Let's see
- 59:29Speaker 6: who's Rick and Riverside, Rhode Island. RKK should be in
- 59:33Speaker 6: the Hall of Fame based solely on the courage he
- 59:35Speaker 6: showed in changing course after the Year of Mayo. Patriot
- 59:38Speaker 6: Nation loves Mail the player, but it didn't work out
- 59:41Speaker 6: as a coach. Maybe it was divine intervention that Rabel
- 59:44Speaker 6: didn't get hired in twenty twenty four, making him available
- 59:48Speaker 6: for RKK to make the change. Rabel has completely reshaped
- 59:51Speaker 6: his team. His love of his players while maintaining the
- 59:54Speaker 6: discipline needed to win in the NFL is awesome.
- 59:57Speaker 4: We have a young foundation to build on in the
- 59:59Speaker 4: future is bright.
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: I predict the Patriots will play their best game of
- 1:00:03Speaker 6: the season and when thirty one seventeen, I believe Josh
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: will have a game plan to take advantage of Drake's
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: running ability, and the defense will be hungry.
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: So there you go.
- 1:00:14Speaker 8: I It's just a thing that's kind of occurred to
- 1:00:16Speaker 8: me here that I've never really seen before, is this
- 1:00:19Speaker 8: team doesn't really seem like they want the season to
- 1:00:21Speaker 8: end and that they want to all go their separate ways.
- 1:00:23Speaker 8: Like it seems like they truly enjoy playing together, being together,
- 1:00:26Speaker 8: and being part of this team. Saw another quote from
- 1:00:29Speaker 8: Jared Wilson that echoed something that Will Campbell's said of
- 1:00:31Speaker 8: just like everyone told me it's going to be different
- 1:00:34Speaker 8: in the NFL, how hard it's going to be, But
- 1:00:36Speaker 8: I don't this is If this is how it is,
- 1:00:38Speaker 8: I love it. I want I don't want to play
- 1:00:40Speaker 8: anywhere else. So I think they've just established that culture
- 1:00:42Speaker 8: in an outstanding way. And I think these guys here
- 1:00:45Speaker 8: they they want to keep playing.
- 1:00:46Speaker 7: All right. Joining us now is Howard Ballzer and uh,
- 1:00:51Speaker 7: he'll get set up here. Howard.
- 1:00:52Speaker 17: How you doing, Fred kersh I've read nice to see.
- 1:00:54Speaker 7: You, nice seeing you.
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: I know we've emailed oh yes, yes.
- 1:00:59Speaker 17: Yes man him many times.
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: Man.
- 1:01:01Speaker 17: I stopped getting that, said contributor. Yeah, I debated at
- 1:01:07Speaker 17: the time when I found out that, of course it
- 1:01:10Speaker 17: was going away, I debated, and when I got my
- 1:01:12Speaker 17: last check with Robert's signature on it, not to cash it,
- 1:01:15Speaker 17: and just kind of.
- 1:01:16Speaker 7: Like, right, okay, all right, so yeah, so what Howard?
- 1:01:21Speaker 6: You know, when Paul and I first started with the Patriots,
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: I was back in ninety five.
- 1:01:25Speaker 7: I started the.
- 1:01:25Speaker 6: Newspaper, Patriots Football Weekly, and we had many columnsts. Howard,
- 1:01:29Speaker 6: Howard Balls is one of them, Vic Carucci, Paul Domowitch,
- 1:01:32Speaker 6: Gordon Forbes.
- 1:01:33Speaker 7: Uh but Yanks Don Banks. But Howard's one of our alumni.
- 1:01:37Speaker 7: So there we go. Welcome to the show. This is
- 1:01:39Speaker 7: what we do. Now, we's all video now.
- 1:01:41Speaker 17: I say exactly, Oh yeah, yeah, that's not the way
- 1:01:43Speaker 17: it's gone everywhere.
- 1:01:44Speaker 7: Right, yeah.
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: So tell our our audience a ten, tend to be younger.
- 1:01:49Speaker 6: Tell them how long you've been covering the NFL.
- 1:01:53Speaker 17: Well, this is my forty fifth game, forty fifty. Yes,
- 1:01:56Speaker 17: the game will conclude my fiftieth season covering the NFL.
- 1:02:01Speaker 17: And of course maybe this week the most more controversial
- 1:02:05Speaker 17: than normal years, is the twenty third time that I've
- 1:02:08Speaker 17: been involved in the election for the Pro Football Hall
- 1:02:10Speaker 17: of Fame.
- 1:02:12Speaker 7: So we want to get right into let's get right.
- 1:02:15Speaker 17: Why would that be?
- 1:02:16Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: I mean, as you probably know, Patriot's Nation is up
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: in arms, not just because of Bill Belichick, but also
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: because of Robert Kraft. And you know, tell us why
- 1:02:26Speaker 6: somebody like Bill Belichick wouldn't get in on the first ballot.
- 1:02:32Speaker 17: There's a lot of nuance here. And I could talk
- 1:02:35Speaker 17: about this for a long time. I'll try to be
- 1:02:36Speaker 17: as succinct as possible. But the Pro Football Hall of Fame,
- 1:02:42Speaker 17: and I don't want to sound like I'm blaming it
- 1:02:44Speaker 17: all on them, because all the selectors make their individual decisions,
- 1:02:49Speaker 17: but the Pro Football Hall of Fame put us in
- 1:02:51Speaker 17: a very difficult position beginning with last year. And let
- 1:02:56Speaker 17: me go back eleven years to what I'm going to
- 1:02:59Speaker 17: lay out here, because I think it's very important and
- 1:03:01Speaker 17: a lot of people don't know. I'm a detailed guy.
- 1:03:03Speaker 17: Anyone who's following me knows, Yay, I have ideas, opinions,
- 1:03:07Speaker 17: but I'm also very detailed with numbers and processes and
- 1:03:10Speaker 17: all those things. Eleven years ago, the Hall of Fame
- 1:03:15Speaker 17: decided to create a contributor committee separate from the regular
- 1:03:20Speaker 17: election because up until that point, and that's a lot
- 1:03:23Speaker 17: of years, over fifty years of the Pro Football Hall
- 1:03:26Speaker 17: of Fame, contributors, coaches, senior players were considered within the
- 1:03:34Speaker 17: along with the modern day guys. Well, it got to
- 1:03:37Speaker 17: the point where contributors it was hard. It was hard
- 1:03:39Speaker 17: to get especially contributors and coaches. It was hard to
- 1:03:41Speaker 17: get them in right because you're competing against modern day players.
- 1:03:45Speaker 17: So in twenty fifteen they could created the contributor category
- 1:03:50Speaker 17: and that led to the first one, Bill Pollian, Ron Wolfe,
- 1:03:54Speaker 17: Gil Brandt, Bobby Bethard, Pat Bolan, Jerry Jones. It led
- 1:03:58Speaker 17: to all these contributors getting in right. Coaches were still
- 1:04:02Speaker 17: considered with the modern day guys. In twenty twenty one,
- 1:04:06Speaker 17: the year after the centennial class, they removed the coaches
- 1:04:10Speaker 17: for the modern day guys and created a coach subcommittee
- 1:04:14Speaker 17: where a coach would be put forward. In twenty twenty two,
- 1:04:18Speaker 17: the decision was made, you know, we've gotten a lot
- 1:04:21Speaker 17: of contributors in the list of nominees and all that
- 1:04:24Speaker 17: quite honestly wasn't as strong, and so they decided to
- 1:04:28Speaker 17: combine the coach and the contributor committee into one and
- 1:04:32Speaker 17: then there would only be one of either of them
- 1:04:34Speaker 17: that would be advanced as a finalist. Twenty twenty three
- 1:04:37Speaker 17: was the sea change when there was a lot of
- 1:04:40Speaker 17: talk if people out there, if any of you guys,
- 1:04:44Speaker 17: if you ever saw the list of guys that are
- 1:04:47Speaker 17: in the seniors what we call the abyss, some have
- 1:04:50Speaker 17: called the dark hole, if you look at the guys
- 1:04:53Speaker 17: that are in there, you say home on I would say,
- 1:04:55Speaker 17: any normal fan would say, Oh, that guy's not in.
- 1:04:58Speaker 7: That guy's not in.
- 1:04:59Speaker 17: That guy's not in. So what they decided to do
- 1:05:01Speaker 17: to create more seniors getting in was to have three finalists. Now,
- 1:05:07Speaker 17: the key is when we voted on the seniors, when
- 1:05:11Speaker 17: we voted on the coach or the contributor or the
- 1:05:15Speaker 17: combined one, we voted yes or no on each individual guy.
- 1:05:21Speaker 17: So there's fifty voters, that means that one of those
- 1:05:24Speaker 17: have to get forty. Whoever gets forty votes gets elected.
- 1:05:27Speaker 17: So the first year, the first two years of the Seniors,
- 1:05:30Speaker 17: three five of the six seniors got in. One of
- 1:05:35Speaker 17: the receiver from the Raiders, ar Powell did not get
- 1:05:38Speaker 17: the eighty percent the forty votes, so he didn't get elected,
- 1:05:41Speaker 17: but five of the six did. Last year, all of
- 1:05:44Speaker 17: a sudden, out of nowhere, they changed the whole voting
- 1:05:48Speaker 17: process for the modern day guys and the group of five,
- 1:05:54Speaker 17: if you will to instead of voting individually, we would
- 1:06:00Speaker 17: say in this in this group, which you guys are
- 1:06:02Speaker 17: most concerned with, we voted for only three of the five.
- 1:06:07Speaker 17: So then they put us in a position to make
- 1:06:10Speaker 17: decisions with guys they had consciously said shouldn't compete against
- 1:06:14Speaker 17: each other, to now be competing against each other, right,
- 1:06:18Speaker 17: and so a lot of people have said in the
- 1:06:20Speaker 17: last week, well it's not right. You know, why should
- 1:06:23Speaker 17: selectors quote prioritize seniors players? Is Vaje. Gregorian from Kansas City,
- 1:06:29Speaker 17: wrote that he did well. The Hall of Fame prioritized
- 1:06:33Speaker 17: seniors guys by having three of them and then making
- 1:06:37Speaker 17: a decision on the Contributors committee to combine it at
- 1:06:39Speaker 17: one point with the coaches because they didn't think there
- 1:06:41Speaker 17: was enough of them that were worthy. Well, now they
- 1:06:44Speaker 17: forced us to make a decision. And the numbers telling
- 1:06:47Speaker 17: you now, what they said was there's a minimum of
- 1:06:49Speaker 17: one and a maximum of three. And they said, well,
- 1:06:51Speaker 17: we were told by people that we would at least
- 1:06:53Speaker 17: get two from one group and four from the other. Well,
- 1:06:56Speaker 17: I don't know if that person has any knowledge of
- 1:06:58Speaker 17: math or basic arithmetic. But let's just say, for argument's sake,
- 1:07:02Speaker 17: that this year Bill Belichick and Robert Craft got forty votes. Right,
- 1:07:07Speaker 17: maybe they would have gone if it was you know,
- 1:07:10Speaker 17: I think they'd get more if it was an upper
- 1:07:11Speaker 17: down thing. I think they'd both be in if it
- 1:07:14Speaker 17: was up or down. Right, But let's say in this
- 1:07:16Speaker 17: process they each got forty, just for argument's sake, Well,
- 1:07:19Speaker 17: that only leaves seventy votes for the other for the
- 1:07:23Speaker 17: seniors players, So what are the chances of winning one
- 1:07:26Speaker 17: of them when they're all very deserving of getting forty
- 1:07:29Speaker 17: Because votes get split, And so I believe in this
- 1:07:31Speaker 17: case the votes between Bill Belichick and Robert Craft got
- 1:07:35Speaker 17: split because I wouldn't make the argument. I mean, heck,
- 1:07:38Speaker 17: he's been eligible for quite a while and this is
- 1:07:41Speaker 17: the first time he's ever been a finalist. How does
- 1:07:44Speaker 17: that happen? And I think you can make the case
- 1:07:45Speaker 17: that he is as deserving as Bill, or maybe even
- 1:07:48Speaker 17: more deserving, for everything he's done, not only with the
- 1:07:50Speaker 17: Patriots getting to a super Bowl before Bell Belichick was
- 1:07:54Speaker 17: the coach. Now getting to what we didn't know at
- 1:07:56Speaker 17: the time we voted, they were gonna get there this year,
- 1:07:58Speaker 17: but we knew they'd want a playoff when we voted,
- 1:08:01Speaker 17: not to mention all the things he's done for the league.
- 1:08:04Speaker 17: So point is, I'm absolutely sure that I'm not saying that.
- 1:08:08Speaker 17: And nobody voted for both of them, but anyone who
- 1:08:11Speaker 17: voted for one or the other, I think there was
- 1:08:13Speaker 17: a conscious decision. I'm going to vote for one or
- 1:08:15Speaker 17: the other and vote for two of the three players,
- 1:08:17Speaker 17: and so that and so I know there's all the debates,
- 1:08:20Speaker 17: but Bill Belichick, he did all this first time eligible.
- 1:08:23Speaker 17: You get, you get to be a Seniors finalist, and
- 1:08:25Speaker 17: you don't get elected. Guess what, Yeah, you're probably not
- 1:08:28Speaker 17: coming back. And if you come back into the room
- 1:08:30Speaker 17: to be discussed, it might be five or ten years
- 1:08:33Speaker 17: down the road. And so I'm not saying that's right
- 1:08:35Speaker 17: or wrong, but that's the way some people feel about it,
- 1:08:38Speaker 17: and prioritizing players when the Hall of Fame prioritize.
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: But to me, what seems to be the root problem
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: here is this numbers thing. It's like we have to
- 1:08:48Speaker 6: have three or we can't have more than five. It's like,
- 1:08:53Speaker 6: why why can't you have more than five? Why can't
- 1:08:56Speaker 6: you have less than three. Why can't one year no.
- 1:08:59Speaker 13: One is out, only one is worthy, Like, I don't
- 1:09:01Speaker 13: understand why they put these quotas, and that seems to
- 1:09:05Speaker 13: be the problem that puts you guys into a bind where, well,
- 1:09:09Speaker 13: you know, we're only gonna be allowed to have three
- 1:09:11Speaker 13: from this category in there where if there's five people
- 1:09:14Speaker 13: that are slammed dunks, five people should get in.
- 1:09:17Speaker 17: And I'm with you, and I believe that if this,
- 1:09:20Speaker 17: if this was done as it had been done, yes
- 1:09:23Speaker 17: or now yes or no on all five people. I
- 1:09:26Speaker 17: believe that maybe all five get in. Maybe only two
- 1:09:29Speaker 17: of the players plus craft in Belichick, maybe only four,
- 1:09:33Speaker 17: But it certainly would be because I believe what we're
- 1:09:35Speaker 17: gonna see tomorrow night. I believe there's only gonna be
- 1:09:38Speaker 17: one player that gets in. And I'll tell you something
- 1:09:40Speaker 17: else that's weird with the process. They talk about the
- 1:09:43Speaker 17: sanctity of the eighty percent. Right, Well, here, guess what
- 1:09:47Speaker 17: if no one gets forty percent or forty votes from
- 1:09:52Speaker 17: that group of five, guess what they're taking the one
- 1:09:54Speaker 17: person who got the most votes.
- 1:09:56Speaker 7: Oh my god.
- 1:09:56Speaker 17: And in the modern day, guys, same thing, they say
- 1:09:58Speaker 17: there has to be a minimum three if two only
- 1:10:01Speaker 17: get forty votes, then they're taking the next guy with
- 1:10:04Speaker 17: who had the most votes.
- 1:10:06Speaker 7: So think of that.
- 1:10:06Speaker 17: Let's say somebody gets in and they don't announce it.
- 1:10:09Speaker 17: They don't anounce it. Let's say somebody gets in and
- 1:10:11Speaker 17: nobody talks about this stuff. Let's say somebody gets in
- 1:10:14Speaker 17: one year, any year, and has thirty seven votes or
- 1:10:18Speaker 17: thirty eight. Right then the next year they get enough
- 1:10:20Speaker 17: guys with forty and someone has thirty seven or thirty
- 1:10:23Speaker 17: eight or thirty nine. They don't get in, even though
- 1:10:25Speaker 17: they had more than someone else who got into the
- 1:10:27Speaker 17: previous year. Defies logic, It defies anything. And I'll say
- 1:10:31Speaker 17: one other point about your general point. And I was
- 1:10:35Speaker 17: on an interview this morning and someone was saying the
- 1:10:38Speaker 17: Dion argument, Well, it should be only the elite of
- 1:10:40Speaker 17: the elite, right, Well then they and I said, then
- 1:10:45Speaker 17: you get guys who aren't Barry Sanders or Emmitt Smith
- 1:10:48Speaker 17: or Jerry Wright, whatever it might be, and so those
- 1:10:51Speaker 17: shouldn't be Hall of famers. I said, well, the bottom
- 1:10:53Speaker 17: line is from the inception of the Hall of Fame,
- 1:10:58Speaker 17: they mandated minimums. Once you mandate minimums, you're going to
- 1:11:03Speaker 17: have guys other than the elite. And then once you
- 1:11:05Speaker 17: open the door to that, then it becomes well, I
- 1:11:08Speaker 17: don't know about aren't monk, Oh, what about Andre Reid?
- 1:11:10Speaker 17: What about you know, I'm only talking about one position.
- 1:11:13Speaker 17: And so they get compared to look at other guys
- 1:11:15Speaker 17: who have gotten in, and you say, well, they're deserving
- 1:11:18Speaker 17: as those guys. And so that's the way it is.
- 1:11:22Speaker 17: I don't know that the labor get to a thing
- 1:11:23Speaker 17: where you said, I'll just have more and more and more.
- 1:11:25Speaker 17: I actually presented a an idea a few years ago
- 1:11:29Speaker 17: because the one thing that bothers me, especially as being
- 1:11:33Speaker 17: quote an old guy, is recency bias. Of the fifteen
- 1:11:39Speaker 17: finalists this year, nine were first or second year eligibles,
- 1:11:45Speaker 17: and those are those are people that the committee that
- 1:11:48Speaker 17: has gotten younger just saw in the twenty twenty season, right,
- 1:11:54Speaker 17: Willie Anderson, Tory Holt. Tory Holt's been eligible for twelve years,
- 1:11:58Speaker 17: you know who, A lot of people to commit. He
- 1:12:00Speaker 17: never even saw him play, right, and so but now
- 1:12:03Speaker 17: it's it's trending even more. I don't know what's gonna
- 1:12:05Speaker 17: happen tomorrow night, but I would suspect that there's gonna
- 1:12:09Speaker 17: be you know, first first time eligibles and the second
- 1:12:12Speaker 17: time eligibles. You know, last year Adam Vineccieri didn't get
- 1:12:16Speaker 17: in as the first time eligible. I think he, you know,
- 1:12:18Speaker 17: he very well could this year. So I think that,
- 1:12:21Speaker 17: you know, hurts it because the numbers tell you.
- 1:12:24Speaker 7: I know that.
- 1:12:26Speaker 17: When you have even even the old way, it was hard.
- 1:12:29Speaker 17: And I'll get to what my idea was in a second.
- 1:12:31Speaker 17: Even the old way, if you have five finalists, they
- 1:12:33Speaker 17: all get in. Now you have ten guys coming back, right,
- 1:12:35Speaker 17: but then you have first time eligibles coming into it,
- 1:12:37Speaker 17: who are at least in the final fifteen. Well, that
- 1:12:40Speaker 17: keeps some other people that can't even get in the
- 1:12:43Speaker 17: room to be discussed. It's hard to get in that room.
- 1:12:47Speaker 17: And then all of a sudden they're not in the
- 1:12:48Speaker 17: final fifteen for a few years, and then they're kind
- 1:12:51Speaker 17: of forgotten about. Then all of a sudden they come back,
- 1:12:53Speaker 17: like an Eric Allen last year, I think it was
- 1:12:55Speaker 17: in his eighteenth year of eligibility, and he gets elected
- 1:12:58Speaker 17: because of thinking, oh, we don't want him going into
- 1:12:59Speaker 17: the senior's abyss. And so those are some of the
- 1:13:02Speaker 17: little things that happened. So my idea was, and I
- 1:13:06Speaker 17: was told by someone in the Hall of Fame, we
- 1:13:07Speaker 17: don't care if we have a big class, right, So
- 1:13:09Speaker 17: I said, well, why don't you have a thing where
- 1:13:12Speaker 17: with a maximum two if one or two first time
- 1:13:17Speaker 17: eligibles get elected and another one or two guys that
- 1:13:22Speaker 17: had the next most votes and have a bigger class,
- 1:13:25Speaker 17: but don't make it harder for some of those other
- 1:13:28Speaker 17: guys to get in, because the first time eligibles, you know,
- 1:13:31Speaker 17: and end up getting in a lot of the times
- 1:13:33Speaker 17: there Now, last year there weren't one any of those,
- 1:13:36Speaker 17: maybe because of the process, but in previous years there's
- 1:13:38Speaker 17: times when there's been two or three first time eligibles
- 1:13:41Speaker 17: come in, and that hurts other guys who have been
- 1:13:44Speaker 17: waiting for quite a long time.
- 1:13:46Speaker 7: So anyway, it's it's to me, it's they're over complicating it.
- 1:13:50Speaker 30: It's more changes they're going to be yeah, probably yeah,
- 1:13:53Speaker 30: And they're probably especially with that with this the way,
- 1:13:55Speaker 30: the way, this WI all the way all you know,
- 1:13:57Speaker 30: all this happened, and I didn't talk that much about
- 1:14:00Speaker 30: it in the last week because I didn't think it
- 1:14:02Speaker 30: should be talked about because we didn't know Robert Kraft's
- 1:14:05Speaker 30: fate and I don't there's in my mind, there's no
- 1:14:08Speaker 30: question that those two guys being in in the same.
- 1:14:11Speaker 17: Year as the finalists ended up hurting each other.
- 1:14:15Speaker 12: And and I want to ask you a question because
- 1:14:19Speaker 12: I think for a lot of Patriots fans they feel
- 1:14:22Speaker 12: like there's a bias towards the Patriots that's growing. You know,
- 1:14:27Speaker 12: Bill Belichick doesn't get it on the first ballot, Mister
- 1:14:30Speaker 12: Craft can't get in period. Out of Mintaria, doesn't get
- 1:14:33Speaker 12: it in the first ballot. Do you when you have
- 1:14:35Speaker 12: these deliberations, do you sense that there's any saltiness or
- 1:14:39Speaker 12: anything like that towards the team.
- 1:14:41Speaker 17: No, don't sense that.
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: Now.
- 1:14:42Speaker 17: I will say that in the discussion for Bill Belichick
- 1:14:46Speaker 17: that spygate was discussed, and there was there was, you know,
- 1:14:49Speaker 17: some pushing back pretty hard on that, and so it
- 1:14:53Speaker 17: was discussed. The flake gate very little. It wasn't you know,
- 1:14:57Speaker 17: talked about, you know, all that much. And it didn't
- 1:14:59Speaker 17: come up in the discussion for Robert Kraft because I
- 1:15:02Speaker 17: think there is the belief that he didn't know. I
- 1:15:04Speaker 17: don't think he might not have either, he didn't know
- 1:15:08Speaker 17: about that, and that you cannot.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Discussion.
- 1:15:15Speaker 17: I said, there was very little. It was mentioned but
- 1:15:18Speaker 17: it wasn't discussed as much as Sky as spygate was.
- 1:15:22Speaker 17: And it's kind of it. And I know it's probably, hey,
- 1:15:26Speaker 17: there's there's a got sick of the Patriots and all that,
- 1:15:28Speaker 17: a certain number of people out there, but it was
- 1:15:30Speaker 17: interesting to me. Obviously we don't know all the vitriol
- 1:15:33Speaker 17: last week was and I saw someone said, I'm not
- 1:15:35Speaker 17: even a Patriots fan, but this is crazy and spygate
- 1:15:38Speaker 17: shouldn't even be considered, you know. And the funny thing
- 1:15:40Speaker 17: to me is Jimmy Johnson his quote, well, oh everybody
- 1:15:44Speaker 17: was trying it, or we tried and it didn't work. Well,
- 1:15:46Speaker 17: I said, well, I will say this, maybe we should
- 1:15:49Speaker 17: take him out. Well maybe, but I will say this,
- 1:15:52Speaker 17: and total objectivity. If it wasn't working to some level
- 1:15:58Speaker 17: for the Patriots, why would they have done it for
- 1:15:59Speaker 17: so along?
- 1:16:00Speaker 10: You know?
- 1:16:01Speaker 17: So there was something there. I think the Patriots, we
- 1:16:03Speaker 17: don't know.
- 1:16:03Speaker 6: How much with spygate was not that they did it
- 1:16:06Speaker 6: because teams were trying to decipher you know, uh signals
- 1:16:12Speaker 6: in their own different way. But when they were told
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: to stop, they did. That's that's that was their sin.
- 1:16:17Speaker 6: And they were told to stop and they didn't stop and.
- 1:16:20Speaker 17: Then at the end and that that happened with the
- 1:16:22Speaker 17: Saints with the bounty scandal, where they were told to
- 1:16:24Speaker 17: stop and they didn't and the league came down on them.
- 1:16:27Speaker 17: And so what's what's interesting is that when the whole
- 1:16:32Speaker 17: investigation came and then the League told the Patriots to
- 1:16:36Speaker 17: just told Belichick and the Patriot to destroy the or
- 1:16:38Speaker 17: to hand over the tapes, and they refused. So the
- 1:16:41Speaker 17: League comes there and destroys them right well, and some
- 1:16:43Speaker 17: almost say, well, why did they destroy them? But I
- 1:16:45Speaker 17: don't think the league knew what was on them, but
- 1:16:47Speaker 17: they didn't want whatever was on them being found out
- 1:16:50Speaker 17: by the PA. But I do think though that even
- 1:16:53Speaker 17: if there were some who had a pushback because of that,
- 1:16:56Speaker 17: I don't and I don't know if we'll ever know
- 1:16:58Speaker 17: how many votes Belichick really got. I saw one report
- 1:17:01Speaker 17: he got thirty nine. Then someone told me the other
- 1:17:02Speaker 17: day they saw supposed to report that he only got
- 1:17:05Speaker 17: thirteen votes. I can't believe that that's the case. I
- 1:17:08Speaker 17: do believe, and I know I don't have anything, no
- 1:17:11Speaker 17: proof of it, that if it was up or down,
- 1:17:13Speaker 17: that those who had a concern about it would have
- 1:17:17Speaker 17: voted for him. And one of the reasons being, and
- 1:17:19Speaker 17: maybe we shouldn't some voters do this. One voter came
- 1:17:22Speaker 17: out and said, I was like kind of on the
- 1:17:24Speaker 17: fence with Belichick because of some of the stuff, but
- 1:17:27Speaker 17: I voted for him because just so he would be elected.
- 1:17:30Speaker 17: And then that opens the door for more coaches. You know,
- 1:17:33Speaker 17: last year, Mike Holmgren was a coach finalist and obviously
- 1:17:37Speaker 17: didn't get the forty votes. So he's still waiting, along
- 1:17:40Speaker 17: with Mike Shanahan and along with Tom coffin.
- 1:17:42Speaker 7: Idea, no one can get in over Belichick, right.
- 1:17:45Speaker 17: Right for everybody behind it, No, no, exactly, and you
- 1:17:49Speaker 17: only have one person there's you know, that's the thing.
- 1:17:52Speaker 17: And there were some who wondered, quite honestly, and I
- 1:17:54Speaker 17: don't know how much this affected the vote. This is
- 1:17:56Speaker 17: a Hall of Fame decision. Little background here. Back in
- 1:18:00Speaker 17: the early two thousands, when after Bill after Bill Parcells
- 1:18:04Speaker 17: left the Jets, he became eligible because there was a
- 1:18:08Speaker 17: one year waiting period for coaches back then as.
- 1:18:10Speaker 7: There is now.
- 1:18:11Speaker 17: But that was just changed too, and no one knows
- 1:18:13Speaker 17: why it was one year, And so Parcells told his
- 1:18:17Speaker 17: presenter and he made it to the finals, told his presenter,
- 1:18:20Speaker 17: I'm not coming back. Don't worry about I'm not going
- 1:18:22Speaker 17: to coach again. Well, the committee didn't believe him, right,
- 1:18:24Speaker 17: and they didn't vote him in that year or the
- 1:18:26Speaker 17: next year, and then guess what the following year he
- 1:18:29Speaker 17: went but he coached the Cowboys. But the Hall of
- 1:18:32Speaker 17: Fame reacted and also made the coach waiting period five years,
- 1:18:37Speaker 17: just like the players. Now, I on my level, I
- 1:18:40Speaker 17: think that's probably too many. I understand you don't want
- 1:18:43Speaker 17: a situation where a guy comes back at it sometimes
- 1:18:46Speaker 17: old and they're older. Yeah, so don't make it five.
- 1:18:49Speaker 17: Maybe compromise and make it three. But they then all
- 1:18:51Speaker 17: of a sudden last year, out of nowhere, they changed
- 1:18:54Speaker 17: it to one again, and so some are saying, well, Belichick,
- 1:18:57Speaker 17: if was just throwing it the way they did, he
- 1:18:59Speaker 17: wouldn't even been eligible this year. So it's there's all
- 1:19:03Speaker 17: those things surrounding it that raise a lot of questions.
- 1:19:07Speaker 7: Given me a headache. I can't imagine what it gives you.
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: Why do you think this year we found out so
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: much information before?
- 1:19:13Speaker 17: Well, that's that's a big question. Now, you know, I
- 1:19:17Speaker 17: know that anybody who was told and let's you know,
- 1:19:19Speaker 17: we voted three weeks ago, from yesterday, January thirteenth, and
- 1:19:26Speaker 17: we didn't we it couldn't come from our committee. That's
- 1:19:28Speaker 17: the one thing. Because we weren't even told the results.
- 1:19:31Speaker 17: We don't know what the vote was, and we don't
- 1:19:34Speaker 17: know who got in. Right. Well, they travel around the
- 1:19:37Speaker 17: country and knock on, you know, the doors of the
- 1:19:39Speaker 17: houses of people. There's camera people, there's other everyone has
- 1:19:42Speaker 17: to sign an NDA.
- 1:19:44Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:19:45Speaker 17: Well, but here's the thing. The Hall of Fame contacts
- 1:19:50Speaker 17: all of the guys who didn't get in and tells
- 1:19:53Speaker 17: them in advance. I think in the ESPN story, which
- 1:19:56Speaker 17: was it seems like so long ago now it was
- 1:19:58Speaker 17: last week, right, I think they said that had been
- 1:20:00Speaker 17: told the previous friday.
- 1:20:03Speaker 7: Did he leak it?
- 1:20:05Speaker 17: Did he tell people that, hey, I didn't get in,
- 1:20:07Speaker 17: and then those people told somebody else, and all of
- 1:20:10Speaker 17: a sudden ESPN has the story, and then all of
- 1:20:13Speaker 17: a sudden they have the Craft story, you know, a
- 1:20:15Speaker 17: week later that he didn't get in either. So the
- 1:20:19Speaker 17: Hall is very concerned with that and the leaks. They
- 1:20:22Speaker 17: were also very concerned. I'll tell you this about some
- 1:20:27Speaker 17: of the things that selectors anonymously told not you know,
- 1:20:32Speaker 17: well off, not off the record, but without a name
- 1:20:35Speaker 17: attachment told the ESPN writers things that were said in
- 1:20:39Speaker 17: the room, including the one that was claimed that Bill
- 1:20:42Speaker 17: what Bill Pollion said, which he didn't say, the one
- 1:20:44Speaker 17: about well he should wait a year that was never
- 1:20:46Speaker 17: said during the meeting, and so they're very concerned about that.
- 1:20:51Speaker 17: But they like to find out who because we're not
- 1:20:54Speaker 17: supposed we can talk about general things, but certainly not
- 1:20:57Speaker 17: in advance, but we can talk about general things that
- 1:21:00Speaker 17: were discussed, but not specific things that somebody said, even
- 1:21:04Speaker 17: if you don't say the name of the person. And
- 1:21:07Speaker 17: so they're concerned about that. But how they gonna be
- 1:21:09Speaker 17: able to find out, I mean, that's.
- 1:21:12Speaker 7: Before you go. I know we talked about Hall of Fame,
- 1:21:14Speaker 7: but give us your take in the game.
- 1:21:16Speaker 10: What are you thinking?
- 1:21:18Speaker 17: You know, I think that I think on paper, at least,
- 1:21:21Speaker 17: I think Seattle is the better team, but we all
- 1:21:24Speaker 17: know that doesn't matter a lot of times. And it's
- 1:21:28Speaker 17: a very intriguing matchup because, I mean, everyone knew how
- 1:21:31Speaker 17: great Seattle's defense was all year, but I think there
- 1:21:34Speaker 17: was so much chatter about the Patriots and Drake May
- 1:21:37Speaker 17: and all that that no one was paying attention and
- 1:21:39Speaker 17: talking about, oh, they didn't play anybody. The schedules, you know,
- 1:21:43Speaker 17: strength the schedule is very low, and I don't know
- 1:21:46Speaker 17: that anybody was paying as much attention to that defense.
- 1:21:49Speaker 17: Now in the playoffs they certainly have, So that makes
- 1:21:52Speaker 17: it very intriguing. Does that make Sam Darnold not play
- 1:21:56Speaker 17: to the level that he's been playing. I think the
- 1:21:59Speaker 17: wild card in all which I believe is the difference
- 1:22:02Speaker 17: in that game against the Broncos, is Drake may run
- 1:22:04Speaker 17: in the football. The question becomes, now, though, does he
- 1:22:09Speaker 17: take those opportunities to run knowing that he's got you
- 1:22:13Speaker 17: know that there might be a re injury to the shoulder,
- 1:22:19Speaker 17: Well that that's true, But if he gets hurt and
- 1:22:21Speaker 17: all of a sudden he can't continue, then that's yeah,
- 1:22:25Speaker 17: a one hundred percent right on that aspect. Obviously, it's
- 1:22:27Speaker 17: the fourth quarter and it's a huge play. You're gonna
- 1:22:30Speaker 17: take your shot. But in the first or second quarter,
- 1:22:33Speaker 17: you know, maybe well maybe I don't know if I
- 1:22:35Speaker 17: should take the chance here, or you go down a
- 1:22:37Speaker 17: little bit early and maybe the play doesn't become as
- 1:22:39Speaker 17: as big as it might have been. So I think
- 1:22:41Speaker 17: that's a big wild card in the game.
- 1:22:43Speaker 7: I agree, his legs could be a huge factor in
- 1:22:45Speaker 7: this game, but.
- 1:22:46Speaker 17: It's it's, like I said, it's a very intriguing matchup.
- 1:22:49Speaker 17: And just because I.
- 1:22:51Speaker 6: Think at McDonald, because you know, like he was to me,
- 1:22:55Speaker 6: he flew a little under the radars to everyone was
- 1:22:57Speaker 6: talking about, you know, Ben Johnson and Cohen in Jacksonville,
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: and then all of a sudden, here come the Seahawks
- 1:23:04Speaker 6: with this first year coach, second year coach, but young guy,
- 1:23:09Speaker 6: and you know everybody is, oh, now, he might be
- 1:23:12Speaker 6: MVP coach candidate, Like what is it about him that
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: makes him a good coach?
- 1:23:17Speaker 17: It's a great question. And I think that part of
- 1:23:21Speaker 17: no one was paying attention is that last year, everyone
- 1:23:23Speaker 17: forgets they tied for first place in the division with
- 1:23:27Speaker 17: the Rams. They were ten and seven in his first year.
- 1:23:29Speaker 17: But he also took over a program that was already
- 1:23:32Speaker 17: pretty good.
- 1:23:33Speaker 7: Yeah right.
- 1:23:33Speaker 17: He wasn't taken over a team that was four and
- 1:23:35Speaker 17: thirteen or anything like that. The year before, I'm pretty
- 1:23:38Speaker 17: sure they were either nine and eight or eight and nine.
- 1:23:41Speaker 17: I think it was nine and eight, and so he
- 1:23:42Speaker 17: was already taken over a team that was in a
- 1:23:45Speaker 17: good place with one of the better talent evaluators and
- 1:23:49Speaker 17: general managers in the league in John Schneider. And so
- 1:23:52Speaker 17: last year they did what they did. Then this year
- 1:23:54Speaker 17: they're still flying a little bit under the radar because
- 1:23:57Speaker 17: they weren't in the postseason. And then they just go
- 1:24:00Speaker 17: out and they just you know, have that defense, and
- 1:24:03Speaker 17: they made some key moves with you know, signing DeMarcus Lawrence,
- 1:24:07Speaker 17: you know, Sam Darnold, and everyone was wondering, how how
- 1:24:11Speaker 17: is he going to play? Was last year of Fluke.
- 1:24:13Speaker 17: He didn't play well at the end of the season
- 1:24:15Speaker 17: in a key regular season game and then in the
- 1:24:17Speaker 17: playoff game. So but McDonald he came from. You know,
- 1:24:22Speaker 17: the interesting thing that I found as I was looking
- 1:24:25Speaker 17: up him because well I probably didn't tell you guys this,
- 1:24:28Speaker 17: but you know I do Lindy's Pro Football magazine. Yeah,
- 1:24:30Speaker 17: I've been doing that for over thirty years. And he's
- 1:24:33Speaker 17: publishing a magazine on the pay on the Seahawks if
- 1:24:37Speaker 17: they win. Oh really, because he does a lot of
- 1:24:39Speaker 17: these specials and they prepared in advance, so it goes
- 1:24:41Speaker 17: to the printer Monday morning, right, and so they have
- 1:24:45Speaker 17: to do stories and I had I did a story
- 1:24:47Speaker 17: on it on Mike McDonald, and I had to write
- 1:24:49Speaker 17: it as if they won, right right, because the game
- 1:24:51Speaker 17: will if it and if no one will ever see
- 1:24:54Speaker 17: the story. Well, the interesting thing was that from stuff
- 1:24:58Speaker 17: that John Schneider had heard about Mike McDonald, he said,
- 1:25:02Speaker 17: you're going to be impressed with this guy. You're going
- 1:25:04Speaker 17: to be impressed with him. And so the story goes
- 1:25:07Speaker 17: that he was he was the Ravens defensive coordinator, and
- 1:25:10Speaker 17: that Schneider was praying that they would lose the AFC
- 1:25:14Speaker 17: Championship game to the Chiefs, which that would have been
- 1:25:18Speaker 17: twenty twenty three season, I guess, because yeah, twenty three season,
- 1:25:22Speaker 17: and he was hoping they would lose so he'd be
- 1:25:24Speaker 17: able to get right after him. And the game was
- 1:25:27Speaker 17: played on January twenty eighth, and three days later, Schneider
- 1:25:31Speaker 17: was hired, I mean, McDonald's hired by the Seahawks and
- 1:25:35Speaker 17: then and then they've gone from there and.
- 1:25:37Speaker 6: Oh, he's it's good to see the young coaches. Needs
- 1:25:41Speaker 6: more good head coaches, that's for sure.
- 1:25:43Speaker 17: And for the most part, everyone's hiring these young guys,
- 1:25:46Speaker 17: you know, guys from the from the McVeigh tree, the.
- 1:25:49Speaker 7: Tight pants guys. Yeah, so it's all right, Howard, it's
- 1:25:52Speaker 7: so good to have you here.
- 1:25:53Speaker 17: My pleasure.

- 1:32:25Speaker 1: Allen thing right, and Eric Allen's a really good player.
- 1:32:28Speaker 9: Like I'm not telling you, yes, no, indifferent, but if
- 1:32:30Speaker 9: it's taken eighteen years, he's probably not a Hall of
- 1:32:32Speaker 9: Fame right right?
- 1:32:34Speaker 7: Right?
- 1:32:35Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:32:36Speaker 7: I like the abyss.
- 1:32:37Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, talking about all these guys you don't get
- 1:32:39Speaker 8: in senior abyss.
- 1:32:40Speaker 9: Right, I don't know, that's that's me, Mike, the PU
- 1:32:44Speaker 9: senior abyss. You're in the abyss with Fred Kursh. You're
- 1:32:47Speaker 9: in the hall after after Eric, but you're in no like.
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: You know, vo did that hurt Eric?
- 1:32:53Speaker 6: Like for Bull they saw and they put him in
- 1:32:57Speaker 6: the Just no, there was no debate right to the hall.
- 1:33:01Speaker 7: They didn't make you wait it for you?
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: Is there amount? Only that I was with the inaugural
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: class there you go?
- 1:33:07Speaker 28: Right?
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: So that is that is true?
- 1:33:09Speaker 7: He says, with this chin up.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: Fred Kursh ball now.
- 1:33:15Speaker 7: All right.
- 1:33:16Speaker 6: Uh Kendall from North Carolina has been holding on. He's
- 1:33:18Speaker 6: trying again. Uh Kendall, are you there? See you know
- 1:33:24Speaker 6: if you're gonna call, you gotta you gotta hang on,
- 1:33:26Speaker 6: you gotta be patient.
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: Having issues.
- 1:33:28Speaker 6: Kendall is not there. How about Sabah from North Carolina.
- 1:33:32Speaker 6: I hope I'm saying your name correctly, So yes, am
- 1:33:38Speaker 6: I on?
- 1:33:38Speaker 7: You were on? What's your name?
- 1:33:40Speaker 32: Okay?
- 1:33:41Speaker 28: Great?
- 1:33:42Speaker 32: Hey this saba down here in North Carolina? Okay, yep, yes,
- 1:33:47Speaker 32: I am all in on right Maye. But I'm upset
- 1:33:50Speaker 32: and how I'm here and I'm gonna be Redskins fans.
- 1:33:52Speaker 32: I hear a lot of chat. I'm hearing you guys.
- 1:33:54Speaker 32: I listen to you guys and watch all the shows.
- 1:33:55Speaker 32: I can double dipping on both.
- 1:33:57Speaker 28: Teams here, and I don't like what I'm hearing about.
- 1:34:00Speaker 32: Brake may had a good regular season, but not a
- 1:34:03Speaker 32: good postseason. Okay, well, look what he did against the
- 1:34:07Speaker 32: best defense in the league. One up, and he threw
- 1:34:08Speaker 32: three touchdown passes. What other quarterback did that? And in
- 1:34:11Speaker 32: the snow, I can barely walk to my corner, so
- 1:34:14Speaker 32: this guy's throwing passes. And then in Denver it was
- 1:34:16Speaker 32: a month soon out there, and he did what his
- 1:34:18Speaker 32: soups told him to do. But yet we walked at
- 1:34:21Speaker 32: the same time, which I agree. The defense is good
- 1:34:23Speaker 32: for the Patriots, but you.
- 1:34:24Speaker 28: Guys would act like the defense is why they won
- 1:34:27Speaker 28: the games.
- 1:34:27Speaker 32: Well, the defense is playing bad quarterbacks. Okay, but Drake
- 1:34:31Speaker 32: May doesn't get credit for beating bad quarterbacks. But the
- 1:34:33Speaker 32: defense gets credit for beating bad quarterback.
- 1:34:35Speaker 9: Drake he might win the MVP because he beat a
- 1:34:37Speaker 9: lot of bad quarterbacks.
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, you've heard many times. She didn't. She
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: doesn't think it's particularly close. She thinks Drake May's the MVP.
- 1:34:45Speaker 32: Well, they shouldn't be. At the point is he's getting criticized.
- 1:34:48Speaker 28: Even by you guys. He doesn't have a good game.
- 1:34:50Speaker 32: Goes didn't have a good game and throws three deep
- 1:34:52Speaker 32: dimes against the Houston Texas.
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: He threw one deep dove.
- 1:34:56Speaker 32: That's a bad game.
- 1:34:57Speaker 4: Then he's elite, so he didn't play well.
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: When you turn the ball over, you only talked about
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: the three touchdowns. You didn't talk about the three turnovers.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: That means he That means he didn't have a good game.
- 1:35:12Speaker 8: No.
- 1:35:13Speaker 32: Yes, the game is when you have mistakes without the
- 1:35:15Speaker 32: good plays.
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: No, that that would be. That would be having a
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: terrible game. That would be c J.
- 1:35:19Speaker 7: Stroud Listen, I I love your passion. I love your passion,
- 1:35:23Speaker 7: and you like y'all.
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: I'm having I'm having a lot of fun with you.
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: I am having a lot of fun with you.
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: I love I appreciate the call, and I do love that.
- 1:35:34Speaker 7: I love your passion and you stick by Drake. But
- 1:35:36Speaker 7: here's here's the thing.
- 1:35:38Speaker 6: Here's and I think we both can agree we haven't
- 1:35:42Speaker 6: even seen the best from Drake.
- 1:35:43Speaker 7: May would you agree with that?
- 1:35:45Speaker 10: Not at all?
- 1:35:46Speaker 7: Okay, he's like.
- 1:35:47Speaker 32: A kid crawling. You don't want your kids come out
- 1:35:50Speaker 32: of your body, jumping on trampoline.
- 1:35:51Speaker 4: That's right, I hear that. I absolutely love this.
- 1:35:56Speaker 10: Anybody you got to give her a show.
- 1:35:59Speaker 7: We need you gonna a frequent caller on this show.
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: Yes, please stop double dipping. Just come out.
- 1:36:08Speaker 8: I'm like, I kind of think I might know who
- 1:36:11Speaker 8: that is really like internet from the internets?
- 1:36:14Speaker 7: Oh really or in real life? Maybe was it Bart?
- 1:36:16Speaker 6: Oh?
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: Okay, oh it was bar Yeah? No, well it might
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: have been whoever Fred got for Barth?
- 1:36:21Speaker 7: Who knows.
- 1:36:22Speaker 4: I'll see if I get a text in about thirty seconds.
- 1:36:25Speaker 7: Are we we're getting things about it?
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: I love it?
- 1:36:27Speaker 7: A headset audio problems? Are we good? We're all good?
- 1:36:31Speaker 6: Okay, all right they said there was a little problem
- 1:36:33Speaker 6: coming out of the break. No, okay, oh yeah, okay,
- 1:36:39Speaker 6: all right, Well but I loved I love.
- 1:36:41Speaker 4: The passion, and I hope that wasn't the plants call.
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: I hope that was real. So I don't want to,
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: like every think there was a plant now, so now
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: I think it's ruined.
- 1:36:49Speaker 7: Who would have planted that?
- 1:36:50Speaker 12: Because I love that call? So, uh it was Sabah
- 1:36:53Speaker 12: from North Carolina? Yeah, okay, did Rom Carolina. But Jess's
- 1:36:59Speaker 12: step mom name is Sonia from South Carolina. It is
- 1:37:04Speaker 12: a Redskins commander's fan, really, and it sounds.
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: Exactly like that.
- 1:37:11Speaker 12: And I've been telling she's a big passionate football fan,
- 1:37:14Speaker 12: and I've been telling her that she needs to call in,
- 1:37:17Speaker 12: and I wonder if she just made up her name.
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: But then it was a real call though, that she had,
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: that was real passion.
- 1:37:23Speaker 4: That's totally off base with that.
- 1:37:25Speaker 9: But like I was, like I was, it was like
- 1:37:27Speaker 9: Alex on the other side of the room, like disguising
- 1:37:29Speaker 9: her voice just so she was getting an argument with me.
- 1:37:32Speaker 4: So I know this, Your wife's mother sounds just like stepmom.
- 1:37:35Speaker 12: Yeah, oh wow. Yeah, And she's same Southern accent. She
- 1:37:39Speaker 12: is a commander's she calls them, she still calls them
- 1:37:42Speaker 12: by their former name.
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: So that's the tip off.
- 1:37:45Speaker 12: Yeah, okay, and so yeah, I'm gonna have didn't she
- 1:37:49Speaker 12: just used her regular name. Maybe she was trying to
- 1:37:51Speaker 12: go in disguise.
- 1:37:52Speaker 4: I don't know. Okay, maybe I'm totally wrong and this
- 1:37:55Speaker 4: is a totally different Just.
- 1:37:58Speaker 8: To be fair, sometimes the names on the call screen
- 1:38:00Speaker 8: your are a little off, and.
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: Her name is a little bit unique.
- 1:38:03Speaker 7: So she said, yeah, that's funny.
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: I have to make make a few much funny after this.
- 1:38:10Speaker 8: So we got we got some former Patriots time, we
- 1:38:12Speaker 8: got Joe millwalka Bay, we got Taekwon.
- 1:38:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I was gonna say that's Taekwon.
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: I didn't recognize him only by the wrists.
- 1:38:20Speaker 6: Okay, he looks fast, Yeah, Norway from Arizona. Just checking
- 1:38:25Speaker 6: to see if Evan finally got his audition with ESPN.
- 1:38:28Speaker 6: Did he gets to rub elbows with his ball knowing
- 1:38:30Speaker 6: idol Dan? Oh, they were close. They didn't quite rub ebels,
- 1:38:33Speaker 6: But I thought I was about to you didn't. I
- 1:38:34Speaker 6: was like I was hoping for like a a little.
- 1:38:38Speaker 8: Knowing nod, like an old Western Yeah I know you
- 1:38:43Speaker 8: and you know me?
- 1:38:45Speaker 7: Would you say?
- 1:38:45Speaker 17: His girl?
- 1:38:46Speaker 6: Meta chimes could perhaps get him on the audition, considering
- 1:38:48Speaker 6: how much he loves his ball knowing.
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: So we had me to kimes on and Evan had
- 1:38:54Speaker 4: his time with her.
- 1:38:56Speaker 7: Yeah, she's telling Bill Summons about him.
- 1:38:59Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 1:39:00Speaker 7: Yeah, the guy's got to be the empire.
- 1:39:01Speaker 4: That's another one that.
- 1:39:04Speaker 9: Yeah, another one I worked with in the paste that
- 1:39:07Speaker 9: left me behind Kingmaker.
- 1:39:09Speaker 6: Let's see Mason from Upstate New York, says Diana Racidi
- 1:39:14Speaker 6: said live on Zoe and Bertrand that MaTx Crosby would
- 1:39:17Speaker 6: love to play for Mike Rabel.
- 1:39:19Speaker 7: That'd be a slam dunk.
- 1:39:20Speaker 4: I mean, but there's been some tea leaves about is that.
- 1:39:25Speaker 8: I mean, that's a that's a first round pick, right,
- 1:39:27Speaker 8: I mean, yeah, that's I mean at least yeah.
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: You know toy is he twenty eight?
- 1:39:35Speaker 7: And then he's I'm not sure there's a price.
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: I wouldn't I do a first round pick.
- 1:39:39Speaker 12: But yeah, especially the thirty second overall pick in the draft.
- 1:39:42Speaker 12: But yeah, there's been a lot of tea leaves about that.
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: Twenty eight.
- 1:39:46Speaker 12: He's been pretty vocal about how impressed he is with
- 1:39:49Speaker 12: the Patriots and how impressed he is with Rabel and
- 1:39:52Speaker 12: all those types of things during this playoff run, because
- 1:39:55Speaker 12: he's doing some podcasting like they all do these days.
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: He's doing his old.
- 1:39:58Speaker 12: Own media stuff. Got to get you on the pod,
- 1:40:02Speaker 12: very high praise for for Rabel and the Patriots. And
- 1:40:05Speaker 12: so maybe she's just kind of reading between the lines
- 1:40:08Speaker 12: or playing matchmaker a little bit.
- 1:40:10Speaker 4: I like it reporting on that.
- 1:40:11Speaker 7: But yeah, uh, Ben writes, and he's in woods hole.
- 1:40:15Speaker 7: That's down by my neck of the woods.
- 1:40:18Speaker 6: As a video production professional, the Duncan cups on the table.
- 1:40:22Speaker 7: Are really stressing me out. Anyone almost knocked one over yet?
- 1:40:26Speaker 7: Well then do a bit Fred, Oh there you go.
- 1:40:30Speaker 7: I don't have an empty so I don't worry about football. Question.
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: How much of the Patriots defensive performances in the playoffs
- 1:40:38Speaker 6: have been because of the defense's dominance versus the opposing
- 1:40:41Speaker 6: quarterbacks incompetence.
- 1:40:43Speaker 9: So I thought when Mina brought that up, you know,
- 1:40:47Speaker 9: she thought, maybe the Patriots offense is being underrated based
- 1:40:50Speaker 9: on their performance. Isn't bad weather in the Patriots defense
- 1:40:53Speaker 9: is being overrated.
- 1:40:54Speaker 7: A little bit.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: No one's really mentioned the weather for the Patriots defense.
- 1:40:58Speaker 9: Yeah, like you might hear like how bad the quarterback
- 1:41:01Speaker 9: play was, you know, but you're not hearing like, well,
- 1:41:04Speaker 9: the weather contributed to that it was the Patriot's defense
- 1:41:06Speaker 9: dominated c J. Stroud, not the weather hurt CJ. Stroud,
- 1:41:10Speaker 9: and then he got spugged by the defense, do you
- 1:41:12Speaker 9: know what I mean? Yeah, Yeah, I do think there's
- 1:41:15Speaker 9: probably an element of truth to what Mina said about
- 1:41:18Speaker 9: one's probably not quite as good as you think and
- 1:41:20Speaker 9: the other is probably better than you think.
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I think there's definitely truth to that.
- 1:41:23Speaker 12: I'm actually have been working on something this week about,
- 1:41:27Speaker 12: you know, the players, the Patriots players, whether it's just
- 1:41:30Speaker 12: kind of extra motivation to already being motivated or whatever inspired.
- 1:41:34Speaker 12: Sorry inspired, We don't motivate, we inspire here. But regardless,
- 1:41:39Speaker 12: they have clearly heard on the defensive side of the ball,
- 1:41:43Speaker 12: the lack of hype for themselves, you know, like they
- 1:41:46Speaker 12: have clearly used that as motivation every week. It's the
- 1:41:50Speaker 12: Texans defense, it's the Broncos defense is the best defense
- 1:41:53Speaker 12: in the game. Now the Seahawks defense is the best defense.
- 1:41:56Speaker 12: Or they're playing with a backup quarterback, or CJ. Stroud
- 1:41:59Speaker 12: stinks or whatever all these other excuses are. And I
- 1:42:02Speaker 12: guess whatever motivates you right when, whatever, whatever works.
- 1:42:06Speaker 4: But every guy that I talked to was pretty clear that. Yeah,
- 1:42:11Speaker 4: like we hear it and we we are.
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: Using I was in on Milton Williams the other night
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: at Opening Night. Yeah, he was definitely he.
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: Seems to lead. Yeah, he definitely does.
- 1:42:19Speaker 12: But even the guy like Christian Ellis, who is like
- 1:42:21Speaker 12: the nicest guy and like very unassuming in terms of
- 1:42:24Speaker 12: these types of things, even he was like saying, yet
- 1:42:27Speaker 12: one hundred percent, you know that this guy is uh,
- 1:42:31Speaker 12: you know, this is in our heads sort of thing
- 1:42:33Speaker 12: in a good way.
- 1:42:33Speaker 4: You know, they're using it as motivation.
- 1:42:35Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I do think that he does well
- 1:42:37Speaker 9: with that. You know, some guys it's so foolished and fake.
- 1:42:39Speaker 9: But Milton Williams just like, no, yeah, yeah, no, don't
- 1:42:42Speaker 9: they don't. They don't think they're any good. Yeah, he's
- 1:42:44Speaker 9: a serious da.
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: He does, Yeah, he does. He does well with that.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: You know, we don't get the respect him.
- 1:42:49Speaker 12: He said that they're gonna find another reason if they
- 1:42:51Speaker 12: beat Seattle. It will be something else, you know, you
- 1:42:53Speaker 12: know Darnold played terribly or you know, it will be
- 1:42:55Speaker 12: another reason why.
- 1:42:57Speaker 4: And not giving the Patriots defense any.
- 1:42:59Speaker 7: Will I got.
- 1:42:59Speaker 8: I got a question, is is there any chance that
- 1:43:02Speaker 8: the Seattle defense is a little overrated.
- 1:43:04Speaker 6: No, no, politely no, yeah, I mean when you think about,
- 1:43:10Speaker 6: you know, the length of the season, the team you
- 1:43:12Speaker 6: know coming through the NFC, I think, you know, just
- 1:43:16Speaker 6: like I would be defensive if the Patriots, you know,
- 1:43:19Speaker 6: someone asked about that. No, I don't think they're underrated.
- 1:43:22Speaker 6: I think that I think they've earned the rating that
- 1:43:25Speaker 6: they have.
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think it depends on what you think.
- 1:43:29Speaker 9: But to go whatever it is, nineteen games and give
- 1:43:32Speaker 9: up thirty points twice, like, that's pretty good.
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: That's pretty good.
- 1:43:38Speaker 9: And that's you know, in the NFC West, where you're
- 1:43:40Speaker 9: playing some better teams on a consistent basis. I've seen
- 1:43:44Speaker 9: Evans Idle find a way to light up team after
- 1:43:48Speaker 9: team after team, and he shut them down twice, the
- 1:43:50Speaker 9: Niners late in the season with with all the marbles,
- 1:43:54Speaker 9: one for the number one seed and one in the
- 1:43:56Speaker 9: actual playoffs, and they couldn't move the ball an inch.
- 1:43:59Speaker 9: So I would tend to think, no, they're not overrated.
- 1:44:02Speaker 9: But any defense can be beaten. Any defense can beat
- 1:44:05Speaker 9: And that.
- 1:44:05Speaker 8: Goes back to my thing of there's only a few
- 1:44:07Speaker 8: defenses that are truly special, and otherwise you can have
- 1:44:11Speaker 8: a defense that's good enough to win the Super Bowl,
- 1:44:13Speaker 8: and I guess that's just I haven't heard one single
- 1:44:15Speaker 8: person asked that question this week.
- 1:44:17Speaker 7: Everybody is in you know, maybe it is deserved.
- 1:44:19Speaker 8: I just don't wanted to pose it because sometimes when
- 1:44:21Speaker 8: it's just over and over and you just get built up,
- 1:44:23Speaker 8: like you can't even move the ball on them.
- 1:44:25Speaker 7: I don't know, we'll see the Super Bowls anywhere.
- 1:44:27Speaker 12: I hear what you're saying. I don't know, you can't
- 1:44:30Speaker 12: move the ball on them, like they're the eighty five.
- 1:44:31Speaker 12: Theres is obviously exaggerating, which we tend to do. But
- 1:44:35Speaker 12: I think with them, it's it's between them and Houston
- 1:44:38Speaker 12: as the two best defenses in the league. And I
- 1:44:40Speaker 12: think Houston has a little bit better talent, but I
- 1:44:42Speaker 12: think the Seattle scheme is better than Houston.
- 1:44:44Speaker 9: What I watched in Houston's like, you can't move the
- 1:44:46Speaker 9: ball on them. Yeah, like that's what I saw on
- 1:44:48Speaker 9: that day. Now I know that they had you know,
- 1:44:50Speaker 9: the plays, but you could they couldn't move the ball. Yeah,
- 1:44:53Speaker 9: they had like one good drive in the game. Yeah,
- 1:44:56Speaker 9: they had a lot of drives.
- 1:44:58Speaker 12: I think this Seattle defense, like I said, you know,
- 1:45:01Speaker 12: they don't have a will Anderson. You know, I don't
- 1:45:04Speaker 12: think that Witherspoon's a really good player, is he? Derek
- 1:45:06Speaker 12: Stingley Junior?
- 1:45:07Speaker 4: Probably not. But they have a terrific.
- 1:45:11Speaker 12: Defensive scheme and a play caller that kind of knows
- 1:45:14Speaker 12: when to push the right buttons, and they have droves
- 1:45:17Speaker 12: of depth on defense.
- 1:45:19Speaker 7: You know, that's the thing.
- 1:45:19Speaker 24: You know.
- 1:45:20Speaker 6: Like, admittedly, and I said this before on a previous show,
- 1:45:24Speaker 6: I didn't really pay a lot of attention to the
- 1:45:26Speaker 6: Seahawks as the season progressed, But then, you know, toward
- 1:45:29Speaker 6: the end of the season, I started watching them and
- 1:45:31Speaker 6: just my eyeball, like they're about their my eyeball tests
- 1:45:35Speaker 6: about their defense.
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: I was like, Wow, these guys are good. Yeah, Like
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: they fly all.
- 1:45:39Speaker 6: Over the place, they're good tacklers, they don't make a
- 1:45:42Speaker 6: lot of mistakes. Yeah, you know when they do, they
- 1:45:45Speaker 6: can recover like they look like a good defense. Yeah,
- 1:45:49Speaker 6: they're no fluke. Yeah, there's nothing fluky about them.
- 1:45:52Speaker 12: I think that one of the biggest compliments that you
- 1:45:55Speaker 12: can have schematically is when you start seeing teams borrow
- 1:45:59Speaker 12: play that other teams are running.
- 1:46:01Speaker 4: You know, who started to.
- 1:46:02Speaker 12: Stretch stuff down and McDonald I think is probably the
- 1:46:07Speaker 12: best blitzer in terms of designing blitzes in the NFL,
- 1:46:11Speaker 12: and him and Jesse Minter, you know, have kind of
- 1:46:14Speaker 12: have this little tree going now that's you know, stems
- 1:46:17Speaker 12: from Wing Martindale and some of the things that Wing
- 1:46:19Speaker 12: Martindale used to do as well. But like that that
- 1:46:22Speaker 12: play calling tree is now like the envy of the
- 1:46:25Speaker 12: league on defense, just like the Shanahan tree is the
- 1:46:28Speaker 12: envy of the league on offense. Like everybody is putting
- 1:46:31Speaker 12: in Seattle blitzes into their into their defense because of
- 1:46:35Speaker 12: how good they are. So that's the type of stuff
- 1:46:38Speaker 12: that you hear about with McDonald. But I think the
- 1:46:40Speaker 12: interesting thing about him, you're asking Howard about him, he's
- 1:46:44Speaker 12: very uh different from Rabel. Like he's not a very
- 1:46:48Speaker 12: energetic guy. He's not like a very demonstrative personality. He
- 1:46:53Speaker 12: is like a true Jim Rat, Like he just is
- 1:46:57Speaker 12: all ball. He's very like straight faced and like expressionless,
- 1:47:02Speaker 12: and you know, very different. Even just seeing them.
- 1:47:05Speaker 4: Up there on opening night, Like the contrast.
- 1:47:07Speaker 12: Of like Rabel's energy that we're so used to seeing
- 1:47:10Speaker 12: now and McDonald's kind of just you know, stoicness. It's
- 1:47:14Speaker 12: a very different type of approach. He's not a raw
- 1:47:18Speaker 12: rack guy, like I don't think that he's going into
- 1:47:20Speaker 12: the locker room and rallying the troops in the same sense,
- 1:47:23Speaker 12: but they trust him because of how good of a
- 1:47:25Speaker 12: coach he is.
- 1:47:26Speaker 6: Yeah, so I think Seattle has earned the praise that
- 1:47:28Speaker 6: they're getting a defense and they are, you know, one
- 1:47:32Speaker 6: of the best defense in the league. I think Milton Williams,
- 1:47:35Speaker 6: on the other hand, maybe he's got a case that
- 1:47:37Speaker 6: the Patriots are being a little bit underrated because I
- 1:47:41Speaker 6: look at the Patriots and I think, you know what
- 1:47:43Speaker 6: happened when Milton Williams and Spallaine were out and it
- 1:47:46Speaker 6: made a difference. When they came back, it made a difference,
- 1:47:50Speaker 6: which tells me they're a good defense, but they're not
- 1:47:53Speaker 6: maybe not quite as deep.
- 1:47:55Speaker 9: I would agree that I think that people have overlooked
- 1:47:58Speaker 9: the Patriots defense, and I would put my in that category.
- 1:48:01Speaker 9: I wasn't anticipating the kind of performance that we've seen
- 1:48:04Speaker 9: in the postseason.
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: From that side of the ball.
- 1:48:06Speaker 9: I do, would absolutely do think that the weather and
- 1:48:10Speaker 9: the opponents had something to do with it, but I
- 1:48:13Speaker 9: wouldn't have said that they'd be able to shut down
- 1:48:16Speaker 9: three straight teams.
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: The way that they shut down all three of these teams.
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: I wouldn't have thought that that was possible.
- 1:48:20Speaker 6: That run defense that we saw in the beginning of
- 1:48:22Speaker 6: the season that kind of had a little bit of
- 1:48:24Speaker 6: a letdown and then and picked it up.
- 1:48:26Speaker 4: It's for real. The Patriots run defense is for real.
- 1:48:30Speaker 6: I mean, one thing I think, as Patriots fans you
- 1:48:32Speaker 6: can count on for this game is they're going to
- 1:48:35Speaker 6: be stout against the run, right you know, So that's
- 1:48:38Speaker 6: that's something that's a chip in you know, a bird
- 1:48:41Speaker 6: in the hand that you can count on in this game.
- 1:48:43Speaker 7: Yeah, I wanted to ask Evan a little about that.
- 1:48:45Speaker 8: As you mentioned, ev they run a lot of wide zone,
- 1:48:47Speaker 8: and really I remember Bill coaching against the wide zone
- 1:48:49Speaker 8: where they just kind of go along with him, and
- 1:48:51Speaker 8: it seems like this defense you're just cutting gaps, you're
- 1:48:54Speaker 8: trying to get through, You're not trying to like stay
- 1:48:57Speaker 8: what parallel with the line of scrimmage. I think with
- 1:48:59Speaker 8: you know, the kind of two gaping style, was you know,
- 1:49:02Speaker 8: does that have the chance to make some plays in
- 1:49:04Speaker 8: the backfield and maybe for some turnovers.
- 1:49:06Speaker 12: I think one of the few times, and I'm sure
- 1:49:08Speaker 12: there are other times when one of the few times
- 1:49:10Speaker 12: where it publicly became a thing.
- 1:49:12Speaker 4: In Super Bowl fifty three against the Rams. There's a
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: clip on the sideline.
- 1:49:16Speaker 12: I don't know if it's our clip or his NFL
- 1:49:18Speaker 12: films or whatever, where Bill is talking to the defensive
- 1:49:21Speaker 12: line and he's saying, get vertical, get vertical, get vertical,
- 1:49:24Speaker 12: because the kryptonite to outside zone is interior penetration. So
- 1:49:29Speaker 12: that's that they want to stretch it out. They want
- 1:49:32Speaker 12: to get to the corner. So if you can just
- 1:49:34Speaker 12: get right in the backfield. So that was the one
- 1:49:36Speaker 12: game where they ran They ran, you know, an even front.
- 1:49:39Speaker 12: They ran the six to one and they they threw
- 1:49:42Speaker 12: out the two gaping and they shot gaps and they
- 1:49:44Speaker 12: got up the field.
- 1:49:46Speaker 4: So I fully expect the Patriots to want to do
- 1:49:48Speaker 4: that again.
- 1:49:49Speaker 12: And I actually went back and watched Brian Flores and
- 1:49:53Speaker 12: the Vikings play this Seahawks offense a couple of weeks ago,
- 1:49:57Speaker 12: and Brian Flores just ran the Super Bowl fifty three
- 1:49:59Speaker 12: g plan against them. They played six to one, they
- 1:50:02Speaker 12: played a too high safety shell. It was literally he
- 1:50:04Speaker 12: just took the Super Bowl fifty three game plan and
- 1:50:06Speaker 12: put it into this game.
- 1:50:08Speaker 4: And that was one of Darnold's worst games statistically.
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: They blitzed a lot in that game, if I recall.
- 1:50:12Speaker 9: Yeah, and it was one of those games they they
- 1:50:14Speaker 9: won handily, but it was because yeah, yeah, because Broswa
- 1:50:18Speaker 9: played and he couldn't handle anything that Seattle was doing.
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: They shut him out.
- 1:50:22Speaker 9: Yeah, And they could have played that game for three
- 1:50:24Speaker 9: weeks and the Vikings weren't going to score a point,
- 1:50:26Speaker 9: but the Seahawks got the possession after possession after and
- 1:50:30Speaker 9: they still couldn't score.
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: They couldn't mount any drives.
- 1:50:34Speaker 12: Yeah, it was a lot of you know, six to
- 1:50:35Speaker 12: one fronts, and then the exotics on third down with
- 1:50:39Speaker 12: the simulated pressures and things like that over like a
- 1:50:41Speaker 12: sixty percent blitz rate on third down because they were
- 1:50:44Speaker 12: stopping to run on first down and getting them into
- 1:50:46Speaker 12: third and pass and so then you can start to
- 1:50:48Speaker 12: cook up those pass rushes.
- 1:50:50Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:50:50Speaker 6: And you know, when it comes to these games, it's
- 1:50:53Speaker 6: it's as much as when you do things as much
- 1:50:56Speaker 6: as it is what you do. So you know, you're
- 1:50:58Speaker 6: talking about those blitzer deserved shooting gaps instead of you know, uh,
- 1:51:03Speaker 6: you know, playing man up and you know, just doing
- 1:51:06Speaker 6: the zero technique or whatever you want to call it,
- 1:51:10Speaker 6: it's when you do things, it's when you blitz. The
- 1:51:13Speaker 6: timing of it that is so key. And that's why
- 1:51:15Speaker 6: Seattle has been so good. It's they they seem to
- 1:51:19Speaker 6: time up things really well.
- 1:51:20Speaker 12: Yeah, in that ram Super Bowl, they they kept on
- 1:51:23Speaker 12: showing all out pressure the Patriots did, but they only
- 1:51:26Speaker 12: brought it one time and it was Stefan Gilmour's interception.
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: It was the one time they actually brought the house.
- 1:51:32Speaker 12: And they kept showing it and showing it and showing
- 1:51:34Speaker 12: it and then falling out of it once the ball
- 1:51:36Speaker 12: is snapped. And the one time they brought the house,
- 1:51:39Speaker 12: they got a you know, a guy right in on
- 1:51:41Speaker 12: golf and he threw up an arm punt to Stefan
- 1:51:43Speaker 12: Gilmore and that was kind of the ball game. So
- 1:51:46Speaker 12: they That could be a big part of it too,
- 1:51:48Speaker 12: is you try to kind of lull them to sleep
- 1:51:51Speaker 12: a little bit and then save it for the exact
- 1:51:53Speaker 12: right moment and try to send the house.
- 1:51:55Speaker 6: Chris writes in do you expect McDaniels to open up
- 1:51:57Speaker 6: the playbook a bit considering his offense hasn't been able
- 1:52:00Speaker 6: to play in anything but snow or wetness. Because I
- 1:52:02Speaker 6: believe the weather has helped a bit, not allowing the
- 1:52:05Speaker 6: Pages to put a lot more of their playoff install
- 1:52:07Speaker 6: on film.
- 1:52:08Speaker 7: I also expect some trickery from him as well. What
- 1:52:10Speaker 7: do you guys think.
- 1:52:11Speaker 9: I think we've seen that in the first three games,
- 1:52:13Speaker 9: and I expect to see more of it. There's been
- 1:52:16Speaker 9: trick plays in every game, usually more than one. I
- 1:52:20Speaker 9: expect to see something. I don't know what it will be.
- 1:52:24Speaker 9: You know, you guys were talking about the throwback to
- 1:52:26Speaker 9: Brady in one of the Super Bowls. You know, we
- 1:52:28Speaker 9: didn't really see a whole lot of the direct snaps,
- 1:52:31Speaker 9: you know, the flea flickers. We've seen a couple of
- 1:52:34Speaker 9: variations of flee flickers just in the last five or
- 1:52:36Speaker 9: six weeks.
- 1:52:36Speaker 7: There's been two.
- 1:52:38Speaker 4: Stay trying to throw it to Drake and Aptonism threw
- 1:52:40Speaker 4: it over his head.
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: Yeah, so I expect to see more of that.
- 1:52:43Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:52:44Speaker 12: I think one of the things that you look at
- 1:52:45Speaker 12: with the Seattle defense, I don't know if it's necessarily
- 1:52:47Speaker 12: trick plays, but they're so good in structure, like they're
- 1:52:51Speaker 12: they're such a good pass defense, just you know, straight
- 1:52:54Speaker 12: up in structure on the play. But the one thing
- 1:52:57Speaker 12: that they have had some issues with. Are second reaction
- 1:53:01Speaker 12: or out of structure or playground football, I guess is
- 1:53:04Speaker 12: the best way to say it.
- 1:53:05Speaker 7: So some of that is.
- 1:53:07Speaker 12: Desperation, right, you know, guy quarterbacks running for his life
- 1:53:10Speaker 12: and he stumbles into a play here or there, which
- 1:53:13Speaker 12: is kind of what happened to Brock Purdy, I would say.
- 1:53:16Speaker 12: But some of that also is, you know, can you
- 1:53:19Speaker 12: kind of break down their zones a little bit where well,
- 1:53:22Speaker 12: now that you know Drake May gets out of the pocket,
- 1:53:25Speaker 12: he's extending the play. They got a plaster they got
- 1:53:27Speaker 12: to take him or whatever, and maybe he can pop
- 1:53:30Speaker 12: open some receivers by doing that. It's really hard to
- 1:53:33Speaker 12: beat them just dropping.
- 1:53:34Speaker 4: Back the pass and trying to beat their coverage. They're
- 1:53:37Speaker 4: just too good in the back end.
- 1:53:39Speaker 12: So maybe Drake May getting outside the pocket and extending
- 1:53:42Speaker 12: to play a little bit. And I would like to
- 1:53:44Speaker 12: see him do it as a thrower, you know, like
- 1:53:46Speaker 12: maybe a little bit more than what we've seen in
- 1:53:48Speaker 12: the playoffs. He's been great as a runner, but can
- 1:53:50Speaker 12: they get him back into extending plays with his eyes
- 1:53:54Speaker 12: down the field a little bit more to try to
- 1:53:56Speaker 12: be a thrower.
- 1:53:57Speaker 6: I'd feel better about that if up at this point,
- 1:54:00Speaker 6: Pop had been more part of the offense as a receiver,
- 1:54:05Speaker 6: because you know, when you talk about running, you know,
- 1:54:08Speaker 6: throwing on the run, you need your receivers to be
- 1:54:11Speaker 6: on the same page.
- 1:54:12Speaker 7: You need them to be traveling with you.
- 1:54:15Speaker 6: And you know, like we haven't seen a lot of
- 1:54:17Speaker 6: that from Pop, and I think he's the guy that
- 1:54:20Speaker 6: I think has the quickness to be able to do that.
- 1:54:24Speaker 12: Yeah, they're just they're they're so sound, and when you
- 1:54:27Speaker 12: look at just trying to beat them, you know, within
- 1:54:31Speaker 12: the pocket instructure, hit the top of your drop and throw.
- 1:54:34Speaker 12: Like they're just so good at all the things that
- 1:54:37Speaker 12: you know, they're taking away everything in the back end
- 1:54:39Speaker 12: and it might take, you know, for the Patriots to
- 1:54:42Speaker 12: win this game. Drake May making a few plays with
- 1:54:45Speaker 12: his legs, you know, outside the pocket to try to.
- 1:54:48Speaker 4: Open it up a little bit.
- 1:54:49Speaker 6: Ye, all right, let's get back to the phones. Eight
- 1:54:53Speaker 6: five five pats five hundred Johnson Dallas, what's up?
- 1:54:55Speaker 4: John?
- 1:54:58Speaker 7: Hey John?
- 1:55:01Speaker 6: No, people just not hanging up, Johnny, John you're there,
- 1:55:05Speaker 6: so okay? Three two you're a gud uh. Let's go
- 1:55:09Speaker 6: to now I can't hang up. All right, There we
- 1:55:11Speaker 6: go Noah is in Oregon.
- 1:55:13Speaker 7: I think is that correct?
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: Either that or Old Rochester?
- 1:55:17Speaker 7: Cool? Yeah, Noah, Noah?
- 1:55:21Speaker 4: You there?
- 1:55:25Speaker 7: What's up?
- 1:55:26Speaker 10: Noah?
- 1:55:27Speaker 20: Hey, how's the guard?
- 1:55:29Speaker 28: I've got a cool question for you guys.
- 1:55:32Speaker 7: Okay, with the.
- 1:55:33Speaker 8: Super Bowl coming up, I'm a big Patriots fan, but
- 1:55:36Speaker 8: I know we got a lot of rookies.
- 1:55:38Speaker 16: With that being said, how do you guys feel the
- 1:55:41Speaker 16: Pats we're gonna do with the offense being filled with
- 1:55:43Speaker 16: a bunch of rookies.
- 1:55:47Speaker 7: It's a great quest.
- 1:55:47Speaker 8: I mean, look, I think by this point they played
- 1:55:49Speaker 8: a lot of football, No question, nobody's played in a
- 1:55:51Speaker 8: super Bowl and it's a step up. But I think
- 1:55:54Speaker 8: that the confidence this team has, and you know, just
- 1:55:57Speaker 8: I think Mike Frabel's ability to get his guys to go.
- 1:56:00Speaker 8: I have good confidence that they're gonna come out and
- 1:56:03Speaker 8: play pretty well. But you know, it's a grind.
- 1:56:05Speaker 7: This is a long game.
- 1:56:06Speaker 8: There are lots of ebbs and flows in a Super Bowl,
- 1:56:08Speaker 8: and I mean, I don't know if it's just the
- 1:56:10Speaker 8: schedule of it all and the timing and the halftime
- 1:56:12Speaker 8: and all that stuff, But when we talked a little
- 1:56:14Speaker 8: bit about Super Bowl thirty eight, that's the perfect example
- 1:56:16Speaker 8: of just a game that was drunk in the second
- 1:56:19Speaker 8: and fourth quarters, and you know, nobody could move the
- 1:56:21Speaker 8: ball in.
- 1:56:21Speaker 7: The first and third And I just I go back
- 1:56:24Speaker 7: to most of.
- 1:56:24Speaker 8: The Super Bowls we've watched with the Patriots, they almost
- 1:56:27Speaker 8: always come down to the end.
- 1:56:28Speaker 7: I think that's more likely the case in this game.
- 1:56:31Speaker 6: Yeah. I mean, you know, when you talk about rookies
- 1:56:33Speaker 6: on offense, obviously you talk about Henderson, but and you're
- 1:56:35Speaker 6: talking about the left side of the Patriots offensive line.
- 1:56:40Speaker 7: But there's also a lot of guys they're not rookies,
- 1:56:42Speaker 7: but they've never been in.
- 1:56:42Speaker 10: A Super Bowl.
- 1:56:43Speaker 12: Yeah, you know, and that's no way to know too,
- 1:56:45Speaker 12: But that's true for ball teams. I would say there's
- 1:56:47Speaker 12: not a ton of Super Bowl experience on either side
- 1:56:50Speaker 12: at this point. It's really if you're talking offense, it's
- 1:56:52Speaker 12: really just the two linemen like Trayvon Henderson really hasn't
- 1:56:55Speaker 12: played played four snaps in.
- 1:56:57Speaker 4: The AFC Championship Game.
- 1:56:59Speaker 12: Kyle Williams really hasn't played either. Now, it's a big
- 1:57:02Speaker 12: the left tackle is a big position. Like, don't get
- 1:57:04Speaker 12: me wrong, it's not it's a big spot to have
- 1:57:06Speaker 12: a rookie in. But it's not exactly like they have
- 1:57:10Speaker 12: six rookies.
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: No, it's the two.
- 1:57:11Speaker 9: It's the two rookie offensive lineman, which I think has
- 1:57:14Speaker 9: never happened in a Super Bowl. Two rookie starters on
- 1:57:17Speaker 9: the offensive line. So yeah, I mean that's significant.
- 1:57:19Speaker 7: But I agree with you.
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: You know the other guys, you know, they might play
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: a little bit in this game, all right, not much.
- 1:57:26Speaker 9: So.
- 1:57:26Speaker 6: I think we're getting ready for another guest here, and
- 1:57:28Speaker 6: this one's an interesting one. We teet him up the
- 1:57:30Speaker 6: first day we're here, and uh, we scheduled him in
- 1:57:34Speaker 6: because I know a lot of Patriots fans want to
- 1:57:36Speaker 6: talk to him. So doctor doctor Chow, thank you again.
- 1:57:43Speaker 6: Fred Kirsh Paul Parillo, So, uh, you know him from
- 1:57:50Speaker 6: the Internet. I know him from X. You know him
- 1:57:53Speaker 6: from IG. We're also is your do you have platforms?
- 1:57:58Speaker 28: Uh?
- 1:57:59Speaker 10: The platform?
- 1:58:00Speaker 11: And with you guys.
- 1:58:02Speaker 10: Look, I'm a former NFL team physician. I do what
- 1:58:05Speaker 10: I call the medical Mike Pereira. I don't wish harm
- 1:58:08Speaker 10: On Drake may believe or not, I would I didn't
- 1:58:11Speaker 10: say that I'm actually a Patriots fan. Like I went
- 1:58:19Speaker 10: to school in the Boston area, Okay, Like I have
- 1:58:22Speaker 10: friends that are the Patriots.
- 1:58:23Speaker 18: I just have a lot of Patriot fan friends. I
- 1:58:26Speaker 18: would look Teddy Bruce's one of my guys junior sales.
- 1:58:30Speaker 18: But bottom line is it's just injury analysis. It's information
- 1:58:36Speaker 18: that's publicly available.
- 1:58:38Speaker 10: And the other thing that I would tell Patriots fans is, look, no,
- 1:58:41Speaker 10: I'm not examining him, not diagnosing him. It's an injury impression.
- 1:58:45Speaker 10: Insider knowledge, not insider information. And remember, and I'll say
- 1:58:50Speaker 10: this because of Boston, I'm Paul Revere.
- 1:58:53Speaker 9: I'm not the British, right, I just you know, for
- 1:58:56Speaker 9: medical that's a perfect description doctor Chow.
- 1:59:00Speaker 6: He watches the games and based on what he sees
- 1:59:03Speaker 6: at the video evidence comes up with, you know, a
- 1:59:09Speaker 6: guess or an educated guess at what might be going
- 1:59:13Speaker 6: on with the player.
- 1:59:14Speaker 10: Why did you start doing this? Honestly? The history is this, I,
- 1:59:20Speaker 10: for seventeen years as the head team position of the
- 1:59:22Speaker 10: San Diego Chargers, saw players on the field, on the sideline,
- 1:59:27Speaker 10: in the locker room the next day after an MRI,
- 1:59:29Speaker 10: I knew exactly what their diagnosis was. But as you
- 1:59:33Speaker 10: guys know, on Monday in an NFL facility, everyone's looking
- 1:59:37Speaker 10: at film, coaches, players, whatever players used to players used
- 1:59:42Speaker 10: to say to me sometimes, I said, how'd you get hurt?
- 1:59:45Speaker 10: I'm not sure. I have to look at film. And
- 1:59:47Speaker 10: I usually had about half an hour to kill before
- 1:59:49Speaker 10: meeting with the GM, so I felt like I should
- 1:59:52Speaker 10: be looking at film.
- 1:59:52Speaker 7: What was I looking for?
- 1:59:53Speaker 10: I had no idea. I just felt like I wanted
- 1:59:56Speaker 10: to be one of the cool kids, right, And so
- 1:59:58Speaker 10: I would go in the video. I would would show
- 2:00:01Speaker 10: me the coach's sideline, end zone and the TV copy,
- 2:00:04Speaker 10: and then I would see exactly what the injury was
- 2:00:07Speaker 10: and then how it happened. Then after at Boy Girl
- 2:00:11Speaker 10: Twins married, you know, decided I can't do all this
- 2:00:13Speaker 10: traveling and stuff anymore. Well, before they went to LA,
- 2:00:17Speaker 10: I never went to LA. I'm sitting on my couch
- 2:00:19Speaker 10: for the first time, watching a game and my wife's
- 2:00:23Speaker 10: and there's a guy who goes down. The announcer says, oh,
- 2:00:26Speaker 10: that looked bad, but I think he's okay. He walked off,
- 2:00:28Speaker 10: and I said, no, he towards ACL. I'm just talking
- 2:00:31Speaker 10: to the TV towards ACL. This season is over.
- 2:00:34Speaker 7: And how did you know that?
- 2:00:35Speaker 10: By looking at the video and understanding and studying, how
- 2:00:38Speaker 10: does Drake may know it's a cover two. That's the
- 2:00:41Speaker 10: Mike linebacker, and I'm going to hit Hunter Henry on
- 2:00:44Speaker 10: the slant. I mean, how does he know because he's
- 2:00:46Speaker 10: a professional and he's looked at the film a million times. Okay,
- 2:00:49Speaker 10: So I said, the guy towards ACL and he's done.
- 2:00:51Speaker 10: My wife turned to me very kindly and said, tell
- 2:00:54Speaker 10: it to someone who cares, and I said, kindly, Hunt,
- 2:00:58Speaker 10: I said, kindly, and she signed me up Twitter. I
- 2:01:00Speaker 10: was like, social Media, what is this? I don't even
- 2:01:02Speaker 10: know what it is? And fast forward. You know, it's
- 2:01:04Speaker 10: sort of gotten legs of its own as more interest
- 2:01:07Speaker 10: in fantasy and gambling and injuries and fandom, et cetera.
- 2:01:12Speaker 10: And coach Rabel, who I love, by the way, is right?
- 2:01:16Speaker 10: Is the Drake may injury situation overblown? It one hundred
- 2:01:20Speaker 10: percent is. But it's the Super Bowl and it's your
- 2:01:23Speaker 10: starting quarterback with a new injury. I mean, it just
- 2:01:27Speaker 10: is what it is.
- 2:01:28Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it's a story, and it's a story.
- 2:01:31Speaker 7: So I'm I'm I'm fine with you reporting it. So
- 2:01:35Speaker 7: I don't know why you're.
- 2:01:38Speaker 10: No. No, no, Well look Patriots, like I guess, I
- 2:01:41Speaker 10: went to school in Boston here, I had three friends
- 2:01:42Speaker 10: call me and said, you're getting killed out here at
- 2:01:45Speaker 10: local media and by fans. I'm like for what I did,
- 2:01:47Speaker 10: But it's observational reporting, is what it is. I'm just
- 2:01:51Speaker 10: reporting what I see. And yes, I do believe he
- 2:01:55Speaker 10: has an ac joint spray?
- 2:01:57Speaker 7: Is it serious?
- 2:01:58Speaker 10: Look? Any injury is It's the Super Bowl? Is he
- 2:02:02Speaker 10: gonna play one hundred percent? Right? How well was he
- 2:02:06Speaker 10: gonna do?
- 2:02:06Speaker 7: Whatever?
- 2:02:07Speaker 10: It is the game of football. Everyone has something going on,
- 2:02:10Speaker 10: and we'll see like he's gonna make it.
- 2:02:12Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, I think I saw you said that his
- 2:02:14Speaker 8: deep ball accuracy could possibly be effective by something like this.
- 2:02:17Speaker 8: That's concerning because that feels like something he's gonna need
- 2:02:20Speaker 8: in this game.
- 2:02:21Speaker 10: Well, that's something that he's been really really good at.
- 2:02:23Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:02:23Speaker 10: No, I'll be very careful here. I didn't say that
- 2:02:26Speaker 10: he couldn't throw the deep ball. I'm just saying that
- 2:02:28Speaker 10: would be a concern because an ac joint is when
- 2:02:31Speaker 10: you follow through. Now, the ac joint isn't even technically
- 2:02:34Speaker 10: the shoulder joint. It's around the shoulder, but it's not
- 2:02:37Speaker 10: part of the rotator cuff.
- 2:02:38Speaker 7: So that's good news.
- 2:02:39Speaker 10: It's it's not saying he can't throw the deep ball
- 2:02:41Speaker 10: or drive his throws. It's a question that what I
- 2:02:45Speaker 10: will be watching for.
- 2:02:46Speaker 7: But knowing and.
- 2:02:47Speaker 10: Loving Mike Rayball, I anticipate first series he's gonna have him.
- 2:02:52Speaker 10: That's that's raybel Man, He's the man.
- 2:02:55Speaker 12: I wanted to ask you just sorry, fred I just
- 2:02:58Speaker 12: wanted to ask you about driving the ball because one
- 2:03:00Speaker 12: of the things.
- 2:03:01Speaker 4: You know, I'm the nerd here, so I charged all
- 2:03:03Speaker 4: the film.
- 2:03:04Speaker 7: And all that stuff.
- 2:03:05Speaker 12: And he was short on a number of throws in
- 2:03:08Speaker 12: the AFC Championship game that he wouldn't normally be throwing short,
- 2:03:12Speaker 12: you know, deep in cuts, things like that that we've
- 2:03:14Speaker 12: seen Drake making his sleep and then we get into
- 2:03:17Speaker 12: this game and he was short arming these throws.
- 2:03:19Speaker 4: Is that something that could be a byproduct of an
- 2:03:21Speaker 4: injury like this?
- 2:03:23Speaker 10: Well, the injury happened late in the third quarter. There
- 2:03:25Speaker 10: were only three passes after that. One will drop back
- 2:03:29Speaker 10: in a sack, but there were only three passes. The
- 2:03:31Speaker 10: next play he gets up, he getting a little bit shoulder,
- 2:03:34Speaker 10: gets the huddle, hands the ball off next play and
- 2:03:36Speaker 10: then you can see him doing this in the huddle
- 2:03:39Speaker 10: and the next play he completes the thirty yard fleet flicker.
- 2:03:41Speaker 10: He saw that it wasn't a bullet pass.
- 2:03:44Speaker 1: Whatever is a point, not really a follow through with authority,
- 2:03:48Speaker 1: but it.
- 2:03:48Speaker 10: Was also that's not what was needed either, So right,
- 2:03:50Speaker 10: I mean, you got to get it over the top
- 2:03:52Speaker 10: and he was open, so he made the good throw.
- 2:03:54Speaker 10: His next throw, as you know, was the out and
- 2:03:57Speaker 10: he dirted it. It was a horrible throw.
- 2:03:59Speaker 7: Was it win?
- 2:04:00Speaker 10: Was it poor grip because of the weather. Was it
- 2:04:02Speaker 10: the pressure in his face that he couldn't step in
- 2:04:04Speaker 10: the throw? Was it the shoulder?
- 2:04:06Speaker 30: Was it?
- 2:04:07Speaker 10: It was a little bit of all. Maybe I don't know, right,
- 2:04:10Speaker 10: but I can't attribute any of the earlier throws to
- 2:04:13Speaker 10: it because it happened late third quarter. And then of course,
- 2:04:16Speaker 10: with his back to the goal line, he rolled out
- 2:04:18Speaker 10: and threw out a balance you know, just floated one
- 2:04:20Speaker 10: out of it.
- 2:04:21Speaker 4: That was it.
- 2:04:21Speaker 1: That was all quick, right.
- 2:04:22Speaker 9: I just want to you know, so just to give
- 2:04:24Speaker 9: you a little more context again your your observational. So
- 2:04:28Speaker 9: after you had your your tweet, there was a report
- 2:04:32Speaker 9: locally that he's actually been dealing with something with the
- 2:04:35Speaker 9: shoulder prior to this game, and whatever happened in Denver
- 2:04:40Speaker 9: was like sort of an aggravation of a pre existing injury,
- 2:04:44Speaker 9: which goes back to Evans point.
- 2:04:46Speaker 1: We thought he was a little off in this game.
- 2:04:48Speaker 10: It was just a yeah, Well you can argue he
- 2:04:50Speaker 10: was a little off in all the playoffs compared to
- 2:04:52Speaker 10: the NBA paratively. Now we have gone back. We saw
- 2:04:56Speaker 10: that Phil Perry tweet our staff. You see some of
- 2:04:58Speaker 10: the guys in the mitchet. So it went back in.
- 2:05:00Speaker 10: Looked at all the game film. Probably what you do,
- 2:05:02Speaker 10: they feed me the relevant stuff, but they scour it all.
- 2:05:04Speaker 10: We did not see a play where he got hurt
- 2:05:06Speaker 10: before that in the season in the playoffs? Could it
- 2:05:10Speaker 10: be cumulative as Drake has im, Look, both can be true.
- 2:05:14Speaker 10: He could have had somewhere and tear and this new
- 2:05:16Speaker 10: thing happened on top of it. Of coach Coach Rabel said, Look,
- 2:05:20Speaker 10: if he had any shoulder issue, it would have been reported.
- 2:05:22Speaker 10: He didn't and he's tried to put it into that. Sure,
- 2:05:25Speaker 10: but both can be true. But here's the other thing.
- 2:05:28Speaker 10: You want your head coach to be Mike Rabel. You
- 2:05:32Speaker 10: want your head coach to have a little bit of
- 2:05:34Speaker 10: coach speak in it. You want him that's what they do.
- 2:05:38Speaker 10: That's not a bad thing.
- 2:05:39Speaker 4: So I'm not.
- 2:05:40Speaker 10: You know, that's part of the gamesmanship of the NFL.
- 2:05:44Speaker 10: By the way it goes. I have a question the
- 2:05:46Speaker 10: Denver game.
- 2:05:47Speaker 6: At the end of the game, May runs for the
- 2:05:50Speaker 6: first down and goes out of bounds and then goes
- 2:05:53Speaker 6: down the sideline and when his right arm gives the
- 2:05:55Speaker 6: fist pump, did you look at that as any indication like, well,
- 2:05:58Speaker 6: maybe it's not so bad because he's.
- 2:06:01Speaker 4: You know, he also stiff armed the guy.
- 2:06:03Speaker 10: With those yeah and stiff arm. Look great play call,
- 2:06:06Speaker 10: And I didn't believe for one second it was wasn't
- 2:06:09Speaker 10: sent in from the sideline. Tom Brady in his second
- 2:06:11Speaker 10: year wentn't audible that call, right? I mean, come on,
- 2:06:14Speaker 10: but the stiff arm. First of all, a c joint
- 2:06:17Speaker 10: is more overhead and cross body. Stiff arm probably something
- 2:06:21Speaker 10: that he could do, and he did do it. And also,
- 2:06:23Speaker 10: when you're running for your life and the games online,
- 2:06:25Speaker 10: you're gonna do anything. I don't care how much it hurts, right,
- 2:06:27Speaker 10: but if it hurts a little bit, how might that
- 2:06:30Speaker 10: affect you on a fifty yard downfield pass in the subtleties,
- 2:06:34Speaker 10: you're a fist pumping because you're excited. Look, I've said
- 2:06:37Speaker 10: before There's four things that gonna happen that are in
- 2:06:40Speaker 10: Drake May's favor to play one medically. Number one, well,
- 2:06:44Speaker 10: first and foremost is Jim Whaling and company are gonna
- 2:06:47Speaker 10: do a great job, right, that's a given. But the
- 2:06:49Speaker 10: four things that are special is I've seen the magical
- 2:06:52Speaker 10: healing powers of the extra week before the Super Bowl, right,
- 2:06:55Speaker 10: so he ain't gonna miss. The second thing is there
- 2:06:58Speaker 10: is a drug that he will be on come game
- 2:07:01Speaker 10: time that all the Patriots and Seahawks players will be
- 2:07:04Speaker 10: on that will be extra strength on Sunday Super Bowl Sunday,
- 2:07:07Speaker 10: called adrenaline. So he's gonna be ready to go. Yes,
- 2:07:11Speaker 10: he may indeed do some vitamin T toward all like
- 2:07:14Speaker 10: Sam Donold has been reported to do for his oblique.
- 2:07:17Speaker 10: Is it possible to put an injection into the AC
- 2:07:20Speaker 10: joint and play? Yes? Will he do it or not
- 2:07:23Speaker 10: do it?
- 2:07:23Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 2:07:24Speaker 10: That's a decision to him and the team doctors, et cetera.
- 2:07:27Speaker 10: But he's gonna be out there and play. I'm gonna
- 2:07:29Speaker 10: watch for his deep throw accuracy. I'm gonna fully expect
- 2:07:32Speaker 10: that he unloads what early on in the game to
- 2:07:34Speaker 10: send the message to complete the ball or what have you.
- 2:07:37Speaker 7: Right.
- 2:07:37Speaker 8: Want to ask you about another injury on the Patriots roster,
- 2:07:39Speaker 8: which is Robert Splaine, who kind of a mis mystery
- 2:07:42Speaker 8: to us. We never really saw him get hurt. All
- 2:07:44Speaker 8: of a sudden, we noticed his playing time kind of dipping.
- 2:07:47Speaker 7: Was out for a while.
- 2:07:48Speaker 8: Seemed like the plan was to get him back for
- 2:07:49Speaker 8: the playoffs. He came back, then he got hurt again,
- 2:07:51Speaker 8: and he's back out. He said today, one hundred percent
- 2:07:54Speaker 8: chance he thinks he's gonna play. Anything you've seen with
- 2:07:56Speaker 8: Robert Splaine.
- 2:07:57Speaker 10: Well without trying to get in trouble. I think what
- 2:07:59Speaker 10: got me in trouble. On my podcast two mondays ago,
- 2:08:02Speaker 10: as I said, I was more worried about Drake May's
- 2:08:05Speaker 10: shoulder than Sam Darnold's oblique because it's already been two
- 2:08:08Speaker 10: weeks old, will be four weeks old by the Super Bowl.
- 2:08:10Speaker 10: Drake May's news, so of course you're more worried about it.
- 2:08:13Speaker 10: I'm actually more worried about Robert Splaine's ankle than Drake
- 2:08:17Speaker 10: May's shoulder. I hope you take that as good news
- 2:08:19Speaker 10: that I'm optimistic about the shoulder, But why did he
- 2:08:21Speaker 10: not come back into the game in Denver. He's a
- 2:08:24Speaker 10: great sideline to sideline linebacker. The footing was hard enough
- 2:08:28Speaker 10: in the snow, and otherwise you can't put a guy
- 2:08:30Speaker 10: out there with an ankle who's already having trouble cutting
- 2:08:33Speaker 10: on a dime on that slippery surface. He's not gonna
- 2:08:35Speaker 10: be as effective. Do I think he's gonna play. I
- 2:08:38Speaker 10: know he's gonna want to. I think he's gonna be
- 2:08:40Speaker 10: medically cleared to play. But it's going to come down
- 2:08:43Speaker 10: to a roster decision. Do you need that eighth offensive lineman,
- 2:08:47Speaker 10: do you need that extra special teamer? What percent is
- 2:08:51Speaker 10: Plaine at. It's gonna be a decision made by coach
- 2:08:53Speaker 10: Rabel and company. He's gonna say I'm good to go
- 2:08:55Speaker 10: and want to play.
- 2:08:56Speaker 30: I know it.
- 2:08:57Speaker 10: The medical is gonna say it's safe for him to play.
- 2:08:59Speaker 10: A percent is the question, and it will be a
- 2:09:02Speaker 10: mic rable call based on roster management in terms of
- 2:09:05Speaker 10: if he plays or not. Everyone wants to play.
- 2:09:08Speaker 7: I hope he does.
- 2:09:08Speaker 10: He's a great linebacker. I hope you know, the adrenaline
- 2:09:11Speaker 10: and everything and will take care of it and he
- 2:09:13Speaker 10: does a do a job.
- 2:09:14Speaker 6: So I you know, in the Denver game, when he explained,
- 2:09:17Speaker 6: finally did come back from the locker room. We see
- 2:09:20Speaker 6: him in the locker room with his helmet on, sort
- 2:09:21Speaker 6: of going back and forth and testing his ankle.
- 2:09:24Speaker 7: Do you look at stuff like that.
- 2:09:25Speaker 13: We do.
- 2:09:25Speaker 10: We look at anything that's available, right, yeah, and we
- 2:09:27Speaker 10: do see that. And when he went to the locker room,
- 2:09:31Speaker 10: it's just twitter whatever, but I tweeted out looking at
- 2:09:35Speaker 10: the injury, and we did see the left ankle injury
- 2:09:37Speaker 10: on video. My team gets me the in game video
- 2:09:40Speaker 10: replays it said. I said, even though he's in the
- 2:09:43Speaker 10: going to the locker room right now, I believe he
- 2:09:44Speaker 10: has a chance to return. Usually when you see a
- 2:09:47Speaker 10: guy go to locker om, he started saying ninety percent
- 2:09:48Speaker 10: chance he's not coming back. I think he has a
- 2:09:50Speaker 10: chance to return. He came on the sideline. He did return,
- 2:09:53Speaker 10: and I did see fans replying to me, he's running.
- 2:09:55Speaker 10: Why is he back in the game. Well, what he's
- 2:09:57Speaker 10: doing on the sideline is one tenth of what he
- 2:09:58Speaker 10: has to do in a game, especially in snowy conditions,
- 2:10:01Speaker 10: et cetera, in terms of what the game needs.
- 2:10:04Speaker 11: Right.
- 2:10:04Speaker 6: I felt the same way as you in those conditions.
- 2:10:06Speaker 6: If you don't need him to come back in, keep
- 2:10:09Speaker 6: him on the sideline.
- 2:10:10Speaker 10: But it's not even need him? Is is that is
- 2:10:13Speaker 10: a Robert Blaine with an ankle injury, not being able
- 2:10:16Speaker 10: to cut well on a dime on a dry surface
- 2:10:18Speaker 10: going to be better than Gibbons on a slick surface, Right,
- 2:10:21Speaker 10: It's it's it's not either or it's. Look, if if
- 2:10:24Speaker 10: Gibbons went now, he would have gone back in the game, right,
- 2:10:26Speaker 10: I mean, but when you have him like, okay, what's test?
- 2:10:29Speaker 6: That makes sense? One hundred percent? Gibbons is better than yepe.
- 2:10:32Speaker 8: Are there any other injuries on either team that you're
- 2:10:35Speaker 8: kind of aware of or monitoring that could have an
- 2:10:36Speaker 8: impact on the game.
- 2:10:37Speaker 10: One I don't know too much about is Harold Landry's knee.
- 2:10:40Speaker 10: Maybe you guys know more about that. I mean, it
- 2:10:42Speaker 10: seems like it's a chronic the issue. It kind of
- 2:10:43Speaker 10: came out of the blue for the AFC commed.
- 2:10:45Speaker 7: Change the game.
- 2:10:46Speaker 10: He's Rabel's guy, he's a veteran. Does he have vet knees?
- 2:10:48Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 2:10:49Speaker 8: I don't know too much about I'll tell you what
- 2:10:51Speaker 8: we thought, Yeah, we thought he tore his ACL against
- 2:10:54Speaker 8: against New Orleans.
- 2:10:55Speaker 10: There was a play where he got hurt play what
- 2:10:57Speaker 10: quarter ah, let me know and we'll go look at it.
- 2:11:02Speaker 10: I'm not aware of that the first half. I'll get
- 2:11:06Speaker 10: my guys on it and I'll get back to you.
- 2:11:07Speaker 9: I came back in the game and continue to play
- 2:11:09Speaker 9: throughout the season, but he was not the same player.
- 2:11:11Speaker 10: I was not aware of that. So I would love
- 2:11:13Speaker 10: to look at that. That would certainly be interesting and helpful.
- 2:11:17Speaker 10: And for the Seahawks, you know, Sam Donald, he's gonna play.
- 2:11:21Speaker 10: Maybe he still wears a flack jacket, but you can
- 2:11:24Speaker 10: always reaggravate it. Let's say I'm Drake May. We talked
- 2:11:26Speaker 10: about deep balls, like. I think he's tough as heck.
- 2:11:28Speaker 10: I think he's gonna run and stick his shoulder in
- 2:11:30Speaker 10: when he needs to. But when he needs to get down,
- 2:11:32Speaker 10: he should get down. But if it's that extra yard
- 2:11:34Speaker 10: of the first down, he's gonna stick his shoulder in
- 2:11:36Speaker 10: there and take his chances. Sam Donald can always reaggravate
- 2:11:39Speaker 10: the oblique. Charles Cross isn't even practicing at left tackle,
- 2:11:42Speaker 10: but he has no injury designation for the game. The
- 2:11:45Speaker 10: Seahawks have been the second healthiest team all season according
- 2:11:47Speaker 10: to Our Sports in the re Central Sports First has
- 2:11:50Speaker 10: was the Rams okay, okay, and then uh the Patriots.
- 2:11:55Speaker 10: The Patriots were upper upper top ten, you know, five
- 2:11:58Speaker 10: to six. I forget in turn of health throughout this season,
- 2:12:01Speaker 10: and we had a few issues here and there, but
- 2:12:03Speaker 10: but you know, that's what happens. The healthier team continues
- 2:12:06Speaker 10: to survive, and that's part of it, right.
- 2:12:08Speaker 7: Yeah, all right, well doctor, we appreciate you coming on.
- 2:12:12Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 2:12:13Speaker 6: As soon as we saw you a couple of days, Oh,
- 2:12:14Speaker 6: we have to have him on, and I was like
- 2:12:17Speaker 6: friend or foe.
- 2:12:17Speaker 10: I'm joking. You guys are very fun and professionally.
- 2:12:22Speaker 4: I was a little bit salty at first.
- 2:12:24Speaker 12: I'm not gonna lie because you told me that Drake
- 2:12:25Speaker 12: May's shoulder was hurt and I didn't like that. But
- 2:12:30Speaker 12: but I really do appreciate what you do for people
- 2:12:32Speaker 12: like me that I you know, we're reporting on the
- 2:12:34Speaker 12: team daily because you know, I, I'm not a doctor,
- 2:12:37Speaker 12: so like speculating about if a guy's hurt, and all
- 2:12:39Speaker 12: the fans are wondering is he okay?
- 2:12:41Speaker 4: Is he not okay? So it's great to have.
- 2:12:42Speaker 10: We got to get together. I gotta get that play.
- 2:12:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:12:45Speaker 9: It is a great follow on Twitter too, and I
- 2:12:47Speaker 9: think you do a great job of putting him in
- 2:12:49Speaker 9: Laban's term so we can understand. You know, this is
- 2:12:52Speaker 9: what the injury probably is. This is a likely timetable,
- 2:12:55Speaker 9: and you are very upfront. This is off of video.
- 2:12:59Speaker 10: I'm not and I and I customize it based on
- 2:13:02Speaker 10: the player. Not all high ankle sprains are the same, right,
- 2:13:05Speaker 10: I mean, Spelane is a sideline to sideline guy. That
- 2:13:08Speaker 10: ankle of injury is different than on another linebacker. Per se,
- 2:13:11Speaker 10: you know.
- 2:13:12Speaker 6: All right, Well, thanks a lot, thank you appreciate it.
- 2:13:14Speaker 6: Matt will take a break when we come back. More guests,
- 2:13:17Speaker 6: more fun here on Patriots on philm
